Welcome to Minion Mage Quest, where we get kicked out of the mage's academy for making part of the basement into a dungeon and row a ship all day because we're too antisocial to ask when to stop.

And as I recall, the last thing we did was talk to a big guy sharpening his sword, to which he responded with:

"Oh, You're the new guy."

"What'd you do to piss off the captain? I haven't seen anyone go on the oars that long before, I'm impressed."

>Wait that's not what you're supposed to do

"Ah, Can't blame you. He's an intimidating man, it's easy to forget what you want to say."

"So, Just what did you come to Armsmaster Adam for?"

"Practice? Training? Maybe a job?"

>Well? Which is it, Mr. we haven't chosen a name yet?
>>

>Training
>Our name is “minion mage”
And no one can tell me otherwise

"Ah, fair enough."

He gives you a lookover

"You look strong enough. We'll train tomorrow, do you have a weapon, or do you want to borrow one?"

>I've got a big hammer(Smith's Maul)
>I've got some hammers(Smith's Hammer)
>I'll use my staff (Your Aeromancer's Staff)

>I've got a big hammer(Smith's Maul)
How can you NOT pick the maul
>>
>>4237027
It should be noted that
A: You don't have a shield
B: Hammers Hurt, like alot
C: The only reason you couldn't kill someone with a staff is if you're a wimp. It's only non-lethal in name.

"Ballsy choice lad, only strong men can get away with something that heavy."

"But I've seen your pack, so I can only assume that you are."

"It's a killing weapon, so We'll have to wrap the head in canvas for practice."

(I forgot to mention your knife in the previous vote, which is a quite large and well made seax. Oops.)

>Go to bed
>Go to the top deck, relieve yourself and think a bit.

You beg your leave and go to the top deck.

"Make sure to take a lantern, It's dark out there."

You take his advice.

On deck, it's surprisingly bright, with stars in the sky and the moon shining bright. You suppose it'd be difficult to see without a lantern, seeing as yours is the only one on deck.

There's lights on the road, most are concentrated just ahead, but there are plenty farther back as well.

You focus, take a deep breath, and close your eyes. The air flows around everything dizzyingly, swirling and pushing, the pennant on the mast slowly flapping in the night breeze.

Breathe.

Your senses extend. You can feel the clouds moving far away, coming closer.

Breathe.

You can feel the air jerk and lightning crack, feel the thunder shake the clouds, closer now.

Breathe.

You open your eyes.

Breathe.

There's a storm coming, soon. Not too bad of one, but it'd rock the boat if we weren't anchored.

50/800 needed for next level

Naturally, you then proceed to pee off the edge of the ship and go below decks for some sleep.

Next day

You have a bastard of an ache in your everything.

You head to the galley for some food, You're hungry.

Strangely, no one's here, except the cook.

You snag a hardtack biscuit and head upstairs

"Everyone's at the tavern that's not on watch. We hit Nevershallow."

The cook was quite useful, as you backtracked to ask him where everyone went.

"They didn't want to wake you up after yesterday."

"Anyway, Almost forgot, The captain told me to tell you to be back by 6 pm, he's something to show you."

"Armsmaster has something for you too, just go up to the deck."

You head up on deck, to see Adam waiting for you.

He has a pile of canvas, a dummy, some rope, a large mallet, some netting, a few timbers, and his sword.

"I figured that you needed rest more than training, so I set this up while the boys were on watch."

"They can keep an eye out for intruders."

"Now, I might not get to train with you for long, but I still need to see what you can do physically before we get on to skills."

"I've seen enough of your endurance, You were on the oars all day with nary a peep, and that's good enough for me."

"So we've still got strength, agility, and the... mental component, all those little gribbly instinctual bits, like reflexes."
