The Setting:

Planet SII-2453-0 is strange, and has been, for quite a while. It is a Rogue planet, which, even though it receives an inordinate amount of star light, should not be able to sustain life. Yet it does. It does through a form of energy emanating for its core, which its plants consume and give on to its animals, and which has some quite odd side effects.
Something lies within that planet, something that cradles its molten core, and which gives off an energy unlike any other in the known universe. It that emanates that energy was dramatically dubbed 'It-that-dwells-bellow', and the energy it sent out 'Null Light', on account of its particles sharing many qualities with photons, though its visible spectrum is very limited.
Ingesting this energy has lead to abilities which would be thought impossible anywhere else, and over the last few eons, the organisms on SII-2453-0 have evolved those abilities to worrying heights.
You meet them in the Eon of Comfort, after a substantial mass extinction owing to rising temperature and an omnicidal parasitic strain.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species (try to turn off anti-alialising when drawing)
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Details indicating what the generation of your species is important. Please indicate. (Base Organisms are Generation 0)
• Details regarding a creatures size or name aren't necessary, but are encouraged.
• Nothing too outlandish. Anything incredibly silly or outlandish will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.
• Between evolutions using 'Null Light' (see bellow) any given ID should try to make at least one evo without it. This is not a hard and fast rule, but it's a suggestion meant to prevent power creep.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic in biological standards.
• This includes 'supernatural' evolutions, which must flow naturally from what has been established before, just as normal evolutions would. It is not permissible to just say 'and now they can shoot lightning' without internally and evolutionarily consistent explanation.
• From time to time I will update an Phylogeny Chart so you can track your progress
• Also from time to time, random world events will occur
• Rules for Extinction will be supplied with extinction events


Supernatural stuff:

• NULL LIGHT is the source of everything supernatural in this evo game. It can be converted into usable energy through photosynthesis and is passed on when the plant is eaten.
• There are so far TWO known effects of Null Light ingestion: Generation/Access to pocket dimensions and The physical manifestation of consciousness (rudimentary as it may be) as ectoplasma. Pocket dimensions are generally corossive for biological matter in them. Ectoplasma is a white, gooey substance slightly lighter than water which flows freely in conscious beings and quickly decomposes into Null Light when no longer in a living organism. Ectoplasm is the material side of the consciousness coin.
• Most evos utilize these strange abilities. Utilize them and evolve their use as you evolve your creatures!
• Additionally, there are the supernatural biomes of THE FLESH and THE PYRAMID. The Flesh is a writhing mass of Flesh and mouths and hosts THE WOMB which brews something unknown. The Pyramid is a structure on the pole(s) which does not adhere to euclidean geometry. Their traits can be used by creatures which incorporate part of this ecosystem into them
• DON’T make up unrelated magic powers. The idea of the game is to evolve supernatural abilities, not invent new ones without evolution. If you do add supernatural stuff out of nowhere, your evo will not be counted.

FAQ:

Q: Where can I get the pictures to edit?
A: pic related.

Q: This is a magic evo! Can I just throw in my own magic powers?
A: No. This is foremost an EVO and if you wanna evolve something, you will have to use a sensible evolution of the already established rules.

Q: Does every evolution have to involve null light?
A: No! There should be multiple mundane evos for each supernatural ones. Evos consisting only of small adjustments to an organism aren’t just allowed, they are encouraged!

Q: How does ectoplasm work?
A: Ectoplasm is the material aspect of consciousness. Changing consciousness means changing ectoplasm and vice versa. If an organism expels ectoplasm, it also expels part of its consciousness.

Q: How do Portals work?
Portals can be generated by organisms with dedicated organs. They adhere to the geometry of realspace: one meter in the portal is one meter in realspace, forward is forward. They are spatially finite and they break slowly break down matter in them. This process goes equally for all molecules, so it doesn’t move from outside in.

Q: How does The Flesh work?
The Flesh is as much ecosystem as organism and as much predator as prey. It is actual flesh which can be eaten for nutrition and has actual mouths which eat organisms for nutrition. It houses The Womb which is hub for all psychophages. The excretion of The Womb are invigorating and energizing.

Q: How does the Pyramid work?
The Pyramid is a structure on the North and South Pole where euclidean geometry doesn’t apply. This means a line is no longer the fastest way between A and B, rooms can be bigger on the inside etc. It is made of a porose, magenta stone, which, can be incorporated into organisms to make use of its unique geometric qualities.

Q: How many Pyramids are there?
There is but one pyramid.

Q: What are the Obsidian Isles?
A: They are continents of obsidian which are partly made up of calcified null light.

Some entries in the Dossier, like the Mentat Imash, are missing sizes. How big are those guys?

Also, glad to be able to take part this time. Here's a pretty simple Evo to kick off the thread.

The Sated Irrinoct has developed a longer horn. After it disconnects trios of Sarglath with its acid and light, it uses the horn to quickly impale and kill members of the group, so they can't regroup or recover on time.

Palm Bismuths have thinner stalks, as a result of less water further inland. However, its root system remains robust.

With a thinner stalk, it is able to grow taller as well.

In that case, I'll go ahead and Evo one so that it's recorded on a template.

In the wake of the mass extinction, Mentat Imash have taken to hunting Fekkirri. They're able to locate them quite easily, since the Fekkirri spring to life in the presence of their arms.

To hunt Fekkirri, the Imash grab them with their ectoplasmic limbs and drag them into the pocket dimension, often losing some of their own ectoplasm in the process. They wait for the Fekkirri to die within, before extracting the corpse and claiming the full bounty of flesh and ectoplasm.

In terms of actual physical adaptations, the Imash has developed null-light sensitive spots on its head. Areas with more null-light mean more plants, and more plants mean more food- a precious resource in this new age.

Three Sarglath have completely fused together, forming one being. It's a little smaller and, due to its compact shape and composite mind, can move faster using the Ectoplasm that it has.

However, going at full speed can drain its ectoplasm supply very quickly, so it prefers to propel itself leisurely with ectoplasm, only going full speed when in pursuit of prey.

Converging on the now-extinct Brave Sarglath, the Tri-Sarglath has also begun using a secondary nervous system to offload the dose of fear they receive from hunting Feeling Imashes. However, where the Brave Sarglath spread the neural duties evenly between it's two components, the Tri-Sarglath exhibits a much more biased arrangement - two mated Sarglaths are completely unaffected, while the third, non-mating Sarglath takes the full brunt of the ectoplasmic attack.
No Sarglath wants to be the "third wheel" in a relationship, given that it would completely prohibit it from passing down it's genes, so mated pairs who haven't yet found a nerve slave have to hunt them down like they would prey.

Some Pyramid Stalkers have been born without slots into which they could insert pyramid stones. What seemed like a curse turned out to be a boon however: with ectoplasm shaping no longer on their minds, much more thought could be spent on hunting, and the excess that would have once been spent on extraneous pseudomouths and fingers is now used to create an insulating coat around the creature, protecting both from psychofages, from their prey's null light bursts, and from the cold.
Just like the normal Stalkers, their only potential prey is the Nullightened Irrinoct - a creature whose constant ectoplasm-dissipating flashes make it a powerful foe.

The Nullightened Irrinoct gains longer, thicker legs, as well as a flatter tail to help it balance upright. In the wake of the extinction event, it now feasts on the massive corpses of now-extinct Spinetaurs.

The Standing Imash, so named for its standing posture (And totally not anything else) pours all its fear into a single, powerful projection meant to chase away predators.

The projection will actually chase predators who come into a certain distance of the Imash, instead of just passively acting as a decoy.

Some Pyramid Stalkers have fallen deeper into depravity, instead of shunning their stones. These ones have uncovered impossible, paradoxical shapes, which they induct into their bodies. These pyramid stones bend and shift the growth of their bodies, and cause ectoplasm to go wild.

This new breed of Stalker is far more aggressive than their predecessor. They tend to drag around spare stones to forcefully replace those of other Stalkers, and violently assault those whose bodies cannot bear stones. >>4231691

Some Nerve Slaves are able to overpower their mated pairs, and are able to offload the fear attacks of the Imash to them. This leads to a more equitable distribution of fear, however, it takes an immense amount of concentration for the Nerve Slave to be able to maintain this configuration.

This causes them to lose their ability to zoom with ectoplasm, making them much slower.

It seems that Sarglaths tripled this way are able to reproduce with all three Sarglath's gametes

With no prey left in the Ashlands, the Spinetaurs were forced to migrate closer to the Fleshlands. As the Fleshlands are positively teeming with Psycofages, they were also forced to do away with their ectoplasm mist, as not only did it give away their location but using it as a defense mechanism was much too wasteful when you have to use it every 15 minutes or so. As they no longer had any musculature they had kept their ectoplasm-based locomotion however, and have managed to fully encase that motile ectoplasm in bony shells around their joints in order to prevent it from leaking out and alerting even more Psychofages, effectively creating a sort of hydraulic system. While it doesn't allow for the extremely quick, jerking motions that were facilitated by the mist, it is much, much more cost efficient.
Additionally, they have developed thick leather over what parts of their bodies were still exposed, which, while weaker than bone, is still harder to chew through than normal skin. This does nothing to protect their earnostrils however, as those still need to be permeable in order to provide sensory information, and thus they still end up heavily infested by Psychofages - just not as heavily infested as they WOULD be without all these adaptations. Accordingly, their average lifespan has been cut down from 20 years to a measly 5, and they can grow to only a third of their original size due to how much nutrients are being siphoned by the parasites.
Their hunts are more similar to raids - a Spinetaur will use it's high speed to quickly assault a Queen Ant, bite off a sizable chunk of it's flesh, and just as quickly abscond before the large, but clumsy ant workers catch on to what it just did.

Pain. Anguish. That is all the Mentat Imash know of now. Its taken the influence of pain to an extreme degree, allowing the Psychophages to take far deeper root than before. It has developed extra nerves just to feel this endless agony, so that it may fight through it and gain further control over its Ectoplasm.

Despite the new teeth of the Fekkirri, they're only able to bite off a finger at a time due to their size. Certainly not a grasping network of limbs, constantly writhing in agony as they weave in from every direction to seize prey.

Additionally, the Mentat Imash tends to attack Standing Imash >>4231712, since their projections don't feel fear by themselves. It's not uncommon to see the two ectoplasm-wielding cousins duking it out on the seafloor, batting grasping limbs out of the way in flurries of flying Ectoplasm.

Not all Standing Imash are able to produce a powerful projection - only the bravest can muster up the courage to stand their ground. Thus, the others have begun to flock to these bravest Imashes, those who can overcome their natural cowardice, for protection. The Standing Imash gets breeding rights to it's entire pack in return for defending them. It's much more gallant than the similarly social Turtlehead Irrinocts - a Standing Imash will never lay a tentacle on a member of it's harem.
As the Imashes travel together, a primitive camaraderie forms among them.
(note: while the image depicts the male Imash as the one utilizing his [STAND], the likelihood of males and females developing [STAND]s is about the same)

Sometimes, the leader, with its less cowardly nature feels an emotion other than fear: Willpower/Hope. While this makes their projection slightly stronger, it also runs the risk of actually making their opponent feel Willpower/Hope instead of making them run away, lengthening the amount of time that Standing Imashes have to fight before their cowardice overtakes them.

The two longer tentacles they've developed contain organs allowing for greater control of their projections, however if these are cut off or eaten, then their projections will also be crippled.

This new emotion is denoted on their skins and projections as a sort of green glow.

Some Feeling Imash, instead of fighting, continue to feel the same intense fear. The fear of being hunted, the fear of being wiped out, the fear of dying before they can pass their genes on, all sorts of horrid anxious thoughts. The poor fucks are constantly stressed.

The females of this branch keep their eggs with them, steadily releasing them into the water as they travel with a mate. This way, their offspring are spread across great distances, and have a higher chance of surviving.

In the event that offspring hatches while the parents aren't on the move, they carry the offspring along. The newborns are packed into the decoys, feeling a constant sense of fear from the moment they're born into the world. Their skittish, non confrontational attitudes are branded deep into them from day one. When a predator dispels the decoy, the Imash within burst out into great clouds, panicking and spreading in every direction. This tactic increases the chance of each individual one surviving to breed in the future. As generations go by, the Imash continue teaching this 'lesson' to their children: The Ocean is to be feared beyond all else.

The Turtlehead Irrinoct's mask is extremely brittle; this discourages attacks aimed at the head, as the assailant is likely to get a fistful of shrapnel. Of course, the target will also get a FACEful of shrapnel, so some Irrinocts consider it a fair trade and go for the head anyways.

While their willpower lets them overcome their fear, sometimes cowardice is better left unovercome; the Standing Imash's fear projection is much weaker than normal, and thus it has to rely mainly on it's willpower when conjuring it's [STAND], making the process much more exhausting and the projection much less effective.

As the Standing Imash feel less and less fear, they become more dependent on using Willpower as the base of their projections.

Some Standing Imashes even experiment on using Non-Imash forms. For example, the female here is using a projection based on a tripled Sarglath.

However, due to their primitive minds, they can only copy what they've seen instead of imagining up a completely original projection.

With their projections now being a liability, the Imashes eventually stop using them altogether in order to conserve resources. Instead, they use their ectoplasm expulsion for a completely different purpose - communication; the Talking Imash can use the ectoplasm it generates from it's [SOCIAL LINKS] to transfer simple messages to it's companions, alerting them of danger or calling for help lifting a particularly hefty Thyruius branch.
They are able to send fear and willpower as well, which they use for scaring away predators and punishing their teammates respectively(as being deprived of their fear projection abilities is indeed quite the punishment for these small creatures)

The longchor root's root was a good initial idea, but with the vortex that originally caused the development of this root gone, its function had slowly shifted to more nutrient absorbing rather than any need to anchor itself. On that front, it could be better, so better was developed in the Longchor Reachroot. Sacrificing the length of their main root, the Reachroot instead grows out its long neglected hooks, creating a proper (though simple) root system.

Probably due to some weird eldritch fuckery though, all Reachroots grow with perfect symmetry in their root system. Pretty strange, but that's honestly the least weird thing going on in SII-2453-0's ocean.

The Feeling Imash now travel in schools of hundreds of individuals; while before each Imash in a mated pair had a 50% chance of escape when the group is assaulted by a predator, now the chance is closer to 1% - much better, but still nowhere near good.
As a school demands much more sustenance than just two Imashes and their kids, they've also developed large scissor-like beaks for cutting apart Thyruyus roots more efficiently.

Some Longchor seeds have been taken to the deepest depths of the ocean by currents. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, but with the recent spread of Calcium Spikegravs and their nets, something unusual happened; the two plants, being close enough genetically to register each other as kin, have begun sharing nutrients, and entered a symbiosis: the Calcium Spikegravs and their nets reflect null-light onto the Longchors, and the Longchors give the nets some much needed permanence by anchoring them.

An armored creature lasts longer than an unarmored one, especially when it's in a perpetual state of torpor due to thousands of tiny buggers sapping it's brainpower, and thus toughness becomes more important than agility; the Armor Psychofages have realized this, and shifted their forms to match.

To better snip at plant matter, the teeth grow into flatter incisors. Their organ also shifts in function, being able to pick up both Null-light and the related Ectoplasm. That way, they can search for areas high in Null Light, and feast on the bounty of plants.

Due to the protective quartz shell of the Quartz Pangla the plant can barely receive any starlight. To overcome this issue a new breed of Pangla has emerged. This variant grows off the side of Pangla colonies in the waters surrounding the Obsidian Isles. There it grows out stems covered in thin algae heads that it uses to maximize it's photosynthetic surface. To protect its central vascular system the Shot grows a simple quartz shell and stores arcane sugar inside it.

Mundane Event, locally positive: The age of land plants

Plants have taken over most of the land mass on SII-2453-0. Though outside the Bismuth forests thier biodiversity has remained low, this might be owing to the fact that they have little to compete against: Few herbivore stalk the massive fields of grass, the forests are almost deserted. While this is not only good for the plants, as it means slow development of soil and slow proliferation of seed-bearing plants such as the Hoya family on the Ghatpratavi and Lokeshura landmasses, it has nonetheless allowed them to proliferate freely.

As a consequence, the atmosphere on the planet is uniquely oxygen rich, with the few land animals not able to establish an equilibrium with their CO2 output. This means that oxygen is easy to come by even for imperfect lungs, and that supplying a big body with oxygen has never been this easy.

Effects:
- Ocean dwelling animals may develop land-capable lungs in a single evolution for the duration of this event.
- Land animals may now grow much larger for the duration of this event.

After taking to the open seas, the next step is to wander onto shallow shores, and then to land! They begin crawling onto the Bismuth coasts. Their singular bottom foot splits into multiple pseudopods, so they can slowly move themselves. Fekkiri move silently and stealthily in their passive states, until they find food.

While they can breathe the air, they still need to wet themselves often, and so still remain by the coastlines.

Social Hsmyx spread quickly in the wake of the last extinction event. Abundant food prompted wandering herds to explore from the depths into the shallower seas over successive generations. Meanwhile the occasionally cannibalistic sugar hsmyx had died off, leaving them to only contend with the "hunters".

Notable morphological differences include:

Grooming/ Social tendrils- Packmates brush off parasites that dont get boiled alive by ambient temperatures, and socially touch one another as they migrate from feeding ground to feeding ground.

Communication vents- lost due to being a structural weakness, it was not uncommon for courting hsmyx to explode. Their exhaust vents are dual purpose for creating low frequency sound and venting waste heat/ ash.

4 eyes- Each vent on a hsmyx is host to an eye sensitive to IR-visible light spectrum.

As a Hsmyx grows older, it burns more brightly. The most elder of the pack will begin a migration away from the community as their time comes near, the binary portal system within their bodies explodes in spectacular fashion.

The psychocrawler is a Psychovore that has responded to the preassures of eyelash weedgrowths and the relative dirth in prey. Instead of vast swarms of thousands, this version of the psychovore goes hunting alone, sharing a stomach only with incidental individuals in its proximity.

It has grown imensely to one centimeter and developed a beak to latch onto its prey more tightly, now that it can actually be scratched away. This change in size makes the mode of transportation of floating on air currents unsustainable, and so it repurposes its docking clamps into legs.

The Psychocrawler's tumors no longer birth hundreds, but merely dozens of its kind.

Since the corpses of the spinetaurs only keep so long, some Irrinocts on Lokeshura migrate to the Hoya Forests to eat the canopies of the trees there. For this they develop grabing hands and feet.

Any ectoplasm they could vconvert into null light, these Climbinocts get from the grass they eat occasionally, and so they have massively reduced null light capabilities, a bulb on their head and tail, which they use situationally, rather than all the time.

New Event: The Boneyards of the Obsidian sea

Long ago have the Thyrius Clingers died off, and with them the influx of herbivores dying of the arcane sugar there. The Pangla Shot >>4234219, being much less dense, and consisting of more inedible than edible mass, has been a poor replacement, though it did keep the engines of Deep Ocean scavengers going for a few hundred thousand years.

But the wheel continues turning, and there is less and less meat for the carnivorous ecosystem of the Ocean Deep. And soon, there are only bones left.

Effects:

Nature abhors a vacuum and without the Thyriuses, some Spikegravs take their place.

Nominally, the Obsidigrav is somewhat parasitic, leaching nutrients from Calcium Spikegravs' networks. However, they give something back. Their vines secrete a mild acid for melting obsidian and it gives the absorbed obsidian back to the network so they can reinforce their shells with the collected material.

They have distinct downward-facing spikes tipped with blue from absorbing the obsidian.

The Hsmyx adapts to the loss of abundant carrion in the depths with surprising grace; they spread.

Those who stay in the depths expend more energy using short range cutting beams on the bones of the depths; processing marrow and ossified material alike, while others simply filter the water of the ocean and process its microbial bounty. Scant few begin hunting smaller, slower organisms; but in actuality its often all these choices. The Hsmyx is a varied eater, and seems to enjoy variety. Surplus food will be carted by the herd, carried in tendrils for later consumption.

Worth note is a nascent third portal that flickers in and out of existence within the binary system. The third portal adds the needed erosive force to break down tougher matter quickly.

Hsmyx hunters were not immune to the migration of their favored prey, but adapted quickest to the change. The symbiotic mold within their bodies became more and more a part of them each generation, the arcane sugar a byproduct of their metabolic process. The prey grew, and they grew. Their prey moved, so did they, their prey went into the shallows, and so did they. But in the shallows was something new; things not Hsmyx. Things on land. The little pig like creatures could slowly ambulate onto the shores for short periods before retreating due to dehydration.

With the great dying off, some Imasites adapt, becoming more simple in their body plans and more versatile in their diet. They make their homes in the Boneyards of the sea, burrowing into and feeding on the calcified structures.

The Simplicite is capable of reproducing sexually, without being a parasite of Hsmyx and other creatures that would eat them. But if eaten or accidentally ingested (>>4236570; >>4236207 ), they burrow into flesh, feed, grow and asexually divide.

The simplicites naturally produce a mucus that covers it. This prevents its hosts' immune system breaking down the creature and also allows it to better initially stick to a creature, before it has managed to completely secure itself by burrowing.

This mucus eventually gets another usage, as it serves as an ectoplasm medium. Simplicities obegin "lumping" together underneath bones and within hosts, the mucus allowing them to stick together. Here, basic thoughs better refered to as impulses are shared between the creatures. It is simple things like, getting to a too hot place in a Hsmyx will most likely kill you (as survivors are able to share the experience and pain suffered), or don't burrow into bone of a certain makeup, as their marrow will most likely have decomposed.

This way instinct is shared and passed along within the species. Not through genetics, but by the way of understanding.

The female Treerinoct has taken to climbing the >>4236103 in order to escape it's abusive home life(and also predators). To facilitate this behavior, it's toenails lengthen for better climbing, and conspicuous bodyparts such as the flasher crystal and the helmet become less obvious, making this creature harder to spot. To prevent the soporific from affecting it, it covers more of it's skin in thick leather, which coincidentally also allows it to spend much more time on land before it dries out.

Some Simplicites make their way up in the world, and by that I mean back to shallower waters, where not being covered in spikes makes them a much more desirable prey than their Imasite ancestors. They undergo sexual reproduction while they're swimming freely in the currents, and asexual reproduction when they're inside a bigger creature's gullet. As they lost their primary spike, they no longer burrow into stomach lining and are content with simply soaking up whatever their host's digesting through their highly permeable skin.

New Event time!

Age of biodiversity: The Obsidian Island of Jobari starts shedding flakes. Just a few at first, but then, over the course of millenia, the shedding becomes more extreme, paper thin flakes flowing off of it fast enough to noticably shrink the island year by year. Almost... eager, the island seems to be shedding its hull, as if intent to show us its core.
What exactly has caused this event is unclear. But its effects are strange and exciting: As the atmosphere and Ocean of SII-2453-0 get inindated with obsidian flakes, generations seem to mutate faster, and with a higher chance of benefitial mutations. It is almost as if the obsidian, or the null light trapped within it, is encouraging the spread of genetic diversity...

The Thryu-Imasite that parasitizes on Hsmyx develops a novel strategy; once it's anchored into it's host, it will regrow it's once-atrophied portal organ and use it to intersect another portal into the host's furnace, greatly increasing it's energy output - and subsequently the amount of budding Imasites the host can support as well.
The creature is a sort of a double-edged sword - on one hand, it's extra portal allows the Hsmyx to reach unprecedented heights of power generation, but on the other hand the risk of blowing up is much higher as well due to the ineptitude of this new helper.

A mutation of the Y chromosome has caused the male Lightbulb Irrinoct to produce visible light instead of null-light, which granted it and it's harem a significant advantage as they suddenly gained the ability to actually see where they're going, albeit in rather poor resolution.

Mentat Imash are some of the first organisms to absorb and incorperate obsidian into their makeup. The inorganic material gradually forms a shell on the outer layer of their brain matter, turning into a hard shell. The shell limits the amount of ectoplasm that can be expressed from them, allowing it to only seep from cracks. The smartest of the creatures will adhere shards of obsidian to their bodies to ward off predators. not pictured are obsidian nests. They are a bit like beavers. but horrible.

Some Stalkers incorperate a core of obsidian, and while their bodies do not change, it has clear impact on their minds. Fragmentary, maddened, the Obsidian collectors ectoplasm rips, flickers, and manifests erratically. this turns out to be a net positive for the organism, as it maintains its virtual body surface and structure while using LESS brain power through the gift of INSANITY. While insane, less ectoplasm expended means the current stalker is actually SMARTER.

A shame they use that intelligence making sculptures out of flayed prey.

Social Hsmyx are curious and mobile organisms. Herds will occasionally come onto the coastal areas of land, retreating before they suffocate, but finding new grazing lands. Their bodies become less flabby and stronger to handle the transient visits to land.

(ALCON: I am trying to draw simplified versions of some organisms. All of the evos i have made work towards that. Our art is nice, but has too many stray pixels or soft edges, and breaks the ability for easy edits which is likely what is slowing this game down.)

due to a Major errors in there genetics that mysteriously did not turn out badly, as juveniles and children instead of just being smaller versions of there adults selfs they instead come our in a larval looking stage that is a nymp, they latch onto the flesh nourishing and maturing on it before partial-metamorphism strikes and they shed excess bones and cracking open there eyes like a eggshell to emerge as fully sexually mature members of there species.

Slingshard Glassgrass has adapted the obsidian which litters it's environment. Obsidian chunks are ejected from the plant to kill predators, and if that doesnt work, eating glass tends to do the trick. The colony will grow from the fertile soil. The incorperation of obsidian seems to result in the plants emitting less charged ectoplasm. They seem at peace.

Within a few generations, the pyramid stalkers who collect obsidian cores have heavily deviated from their normal kin. Their ectoplasm manifests as more abstract ideas, often in the form of shadows of things, or fire. Interestingly enough, the fire ectoplasm does not burn the land, but does inflict burning pain, and forms blister like injuries on creatures touched by it.

A pyramid stalker will hold its prey in an embrace of ectoplasm as it emulates the sensation of burning it alive. This process takes a while, but generates an excess of useful energy for the creature.

bonesnek is the evolutionary conclusion of bonestrich. When not eating the flesh, other creatures or bone, the snek eats obsidian which gradually deposits on its exoskeleton.

The Snek is in symbiosis with the 'cytes and phages. Their rapid growth provides cushion for its obsidian armor that would otherwise destroy its true flesh. It's eye's lens is inorganic and thus visual clarity is unimpinged by the parasites.

Parasites become constant companions as many creatures voluntarily wade into the thrashing waters of the beaches, wincing in pain as their flesh becomes host to as many 'cytes as they can burden.

Lives made shorter, but warmer, and thus longer than without. Its a faustian trade.

The spineroot grows a large edible fruit full of ectothermic warmth and nutrition in these hard times. Animals who consume it will be infused with ectoplasm and heat for a time, but also carry with them the seeds of the next generation. Those foolish enough to consume the obsidian shard often die and are fertilizer.

Obsidigravs have changed considerably (to be easier to edit)

The juvenile gravs will cling to obsidian of any type, and can be found world wide. Obsidian is melted and processed into it's soft fleshy body. A majority of the inedible parts are no longer present, allowing it's seeds to be consumed by herbivores when the mature fruit falls to the ground.

The fruit emits null light in significant amounts as it decays, and is also rich in alcohols.

The cold does not bother the grass so much. What is above the surface is nothing compared to what is below. Electrical activity is enhanced, and flickering child like sprites can be seen coming and going out of existence as the grass fields dream. So far they dream of peaceful things.

The Social Hsmyx adapted to the colder climate easily, as their primary issue has always been thermal regulation and a steep food requirement.

Their portal maw has been located on the bottom of their body, where shovel like tentacles fling matter into the "furnace" to keep the beast going. Cold air offers nothing but a constant source of cooling, and perhaps an enhancement to accidental combustion of matter.

It was soil. rich, organic soil, that gave the Hsmyx it's reach inland. Soil is full of microbes, minerals, and carbon. A true opportunist, there is nothing a Hsmyx won't eat, as long as it doesnt try to get away too hard. They aren't very fast.

Their glow now stretches from the depths of the ocean to the shadows of great mountains. More than their glow, they offer <COMFORT> for those that would herd with them, in a world of dwindling heat.

Golden Reachroots reach 'true' perfection, as they shift around their root structure to form hooks that anchor them better to the seafloor. This change 'future-proofs' them to survive the potential shifts in the ocean currents of SII-2453-0. These more-than-likely happening shifts would be caused by the planet's temperature change.

These hooks form archs that follow the golden ratio, whether this change was caused by Thadoz itself or evolutionary pressure is unknown. However, it is known that said proportions give the plant the ability to be swayed by the sea in a 'perfect rotation'.

SECURITY 2/3 - There are only Eyes.

The shrinking island of Jobari, wittled down by eons of shedded obsidian, have seized their deconstruction a couple million years ago. In its wake, a vastly diminished island remained, and, on its surface, on the Ocen floor it once covered, and protuding out of its sides, it had left a number of peculiar statues of no further interest to the instinct driven denizens of the Obsidian Sea. Inert and lifeless, they provide neither nourishment nor danger for anything but the odd Obsidigrav node.
Lifeless and inert they remain no longer.

Now, in the age of SECURITY the Seekers awaken. Not more than a few hundred at first, these lumbering Giants of obsidian dislodge themselves from their sleeping places and start to spread out, mute, lumbering, and unyielding.
Their bodies are made almost entirely of Obsidian. A silicate nerve cluster, tiny for their size, smaller for the males than the females, governs their movement, which is relayed in simple silicate nerve strands down to their undemanding limbs. Their joints, unyielding obsidian like the rest of them, are hidden in Pocket Dimensions, where the gradual breakdown of their 'flesh' makes it porous and movable. And moved they are by the rotation of the pocket dimensions, generated by powerful, carbon based organs.
There are two kinds of Seekers, males, and females. To each female one two four males are bound, the latter acting as a kind of hunter class to the former's receiver. Male Seekers scour the Ocean floor and the land, for organisms, which they spear unto their arms with surprising speed and agility to bring back to their female, who processes them in a Hysmx-like layered portal, using the resulting ground down inorganic mass to patch up or increase either herself or her partners.
Curiously, Seekers seem to never be content with a food source, even if it is plentifull. Though they are happy to take many specimen of a species for nourishment, something seems to drive them to hunt ever new and unknown organisms to present the novelty to their females. And indeed, when a wholly unknown organism is brought before a female, a different kind of processing is done: With her piercing eyes (Eminating/Receiving Null Light/Light or vice versa) she looks deep into - literally - the object's soul, looking for something. So far, any animal which had this done to it has gone mad and was chucked in the processor. The search continues.

Reproduction is slow with Seekers and happens through the manual construction of a juvenile by the female using stored up resources. It can take centuries to gather up enough resources for a newborn, and then millenia for it to be increased in size so that it could be considered mature.

Just finished reading through the archives. I can't draw very well but will nontheless try my best to contribute.

If you don't mind, i'd like to name two regions on the map. First, i'd like to name the sea between the four (three since the pyramids connect the poles?) continents, but out side of the obsidian mountains. Its new name will be "Stygian Abyss".
Second, i want to name the area inside of the spires, where the vortex once sprung from. It will now be known as

"Tartarus, The Black Gate"

Now then, i had some questions regarding paint. If i'm using the PC program, do i need to do something with anti aliasing, or am i fine with the default settings? should i just use PAINT3D or the .net instead?

Unimorph Ants are creatures that live within the flesh.

A female will spend most of her life with her sisters, tending the flesh fields. During times of stress, some females from the colony will start an irreversible transformation into males.

The first stage of a male morph will still be able to participate in tending to the colony, but the second stage is hostile to the extreme, and will only patrol the colonly's edge, and attack even it's own kind should they venture too close.

As the male's hormonal transformation consumes it's body, it gradually becomes a giant gonad. This is the final form of a male; it will chase the trail of pheramones towards another colony in a last ditch to spread it' lineage. Only the most fit males make it past a colonies defenses to impregnate a female, and then die.

Females who are fertilized turn into tumor masses and eventually rupture to bring fourth the next generation.

Some Mentats now hunt for Lightbulb Irrinocts in addition to their normal diet of Fekkiri as they are more plentiful near the shores, and the Mentat needs any food it can get in these cold, trying times. To assist in the hunt, primitive light-sensitive stalks emerge from it's body, incredibly helpful in detecting the glowing creatures, though their poor vision often leads to an altercation with the similarly glowing, but much more docile shore Hsmyx.
Despite the easier access to food, the Mentat tends to straddle the fine line between aching hunger and the barest of satiation - the feeling of starvation seems to give it some sort of twisted pain... or is it pleasure?
Because it's body is so big and it's brain surface is no longer available for respiration, this duty has been delegated to a special breed of Psycofage, known as the Wrinkly Psychofage, which targets specifically the Mentat's brain-gills.

As all things have an end, so too does all things have a beginning. A creature, sick and starving, struggles into the Bay of Flesh only to collapse, succumbing to the root-like tumors penetrating out of its skin. And as such, a plant that has evolved to thrive in flesh takes root in landscape made for it. Over millenia it the Weedgrowths here increase in size and adapt to the environment. Taking advantage on its “soil” the plant uses its roots to hook itself up to the occasional blood vessel of the flesh – giving it any nutrients that it might need, allowing for said increase in size.

The plant has found its victim in the bay; The Ant ( >>4242819 >>4242887 ). By passing blood through its cluster of Desire-invoking flesh-pods, the blood absorbs the ectoplasm and slowly releases it over time. The strong urge caused by the ectoplasm is too much for the ant. It goes over to the plant and feeds. Thus sealing its doom and spreading the Saguine Growth’s seeds.

SECURITY 3/3 - There is only ice

Slowly Seekers prolifirate, too slowly to attain the numbers of any other species on the planet, but with a death rate infantesimally small and in a constant state of hunting. They disrupt ecosystem, and destroy long hold balances.
But the Seekers are the least of the global ecosystem's worries. The cooling has not yet stopped and the ice that has increased over the last few millions of years has reached solid ground. And organisms start dying.

First order of business: The seekers are technically excempt from this extinction. But since I don't want seven different seeker species at the start of next thread, I will have a vote which TWO variants will be the base for evolution. Reply to this with your vote for your favorite and second favorite Seeker. Most Seeker 'models' will survive as individuals.
