In a sea of roiling phase-matter, creatures labelled as Spectral Entities (SE) vy for dominance. The SEs battle endlessly, hunting each other through an endless void and consuming the ectoplasm that falls from above. It's an entropic existence, with little variation between species. That is, until, an event known as 'The Tear' occured. Three holes in the void were ripped open, allowing SEs to wander through for limited periods. There, the massless wisps encountered a wondrous world, far beyond their primitive comprehension. The world was smooth, even, structured, nothing like the timeless, formless sea that they formerly swam through. The SEs quickly found that they were not alone in their new environment. Limbed creatures wandered this euclidean plane, moving with far more force and intent than the creatures were capable of displaying. There on modern-day Earth, cut off from most of their ilk, the SEs tapped into a vast, ceaseless network. The primitive spectres had their minds slowly flooded with understanding, and they quaked in wonder at the vast extent of this civilisation. They learnt of what made these Humans tick, what lurked beneath the surface, what traditions, myths, and habits were spread out in the collective mind-network of Humanity. And from this newfound understanding, they learned how to prey on this wondrous species.> Welcome to Ghost Evo! This is a sort of experimental EVO game, and the first one I'm running as a QM. The gist of it is that this Evo is a bit more abstract than Biology-based Evos. Our three starters are 'Spectral Entities'. Ghosts, essentially, that have crossed over to Earth from their own dimension. There, their abstract existences have been given insight into the Collective Unconscious of Humanity, and how to sustain themselves on fear.> Two Ecosystems exist in this RP. The first is the Spectral Sea, where the SEs hunt each other down and consume their phase-matter. I'll detail the sea and SEs themselves in the next post. This is where you can do the standard Evo game style, of SEs eating each other, evolving defences, and trying to carve out an ecological niche.> The second ecosystem is Earth. SEs are capable of moving through tears, and arriving on Earth for brief periods. There, they gain access to a massive network of thoughts and concepts, based off the areas that they begin in. The SEs slowly twist and form themselves to match the fears of Humanity. The adaptation changes depending on the general culture of the area. For example, they might take on the shape of local folklore and urban legends, drawn from the subconscious of people living in that area.
All the standard rules of Evos apply. * Use something similar to MSPaint or Paint.net to edit images. Please make sure you use a SOLID BRUSH, which means turning off ANTI-ALIASING, and save it as a PNG.* Don't change traits too fast. An SE isn't going to evolve into a humanoid shape in a single generation. Make small, gradual changes. And don't evolve the same creature too many times in a row. Vary them out, so each tree gets a chance to shine. * Be sure to describe your changes, along with the image. Detailed descriptions are better, but make sure to at least say something like 'Smaller fins' or 'Bigger spikes'. It's good form to talk about what stimulus or function prompted the new evolution. * FOR NOW, SEs cannot directly interact with humans. Don't develop means of attacking them physically or slaughtering them till the go-ahead is given. * Events will take place eventually, in relation to the impact that SEs have on the Human World. > tl:dr, ghost evo where they evolve to scare people better, and also to eat each other
> What's an SE? Spectral Entities are a life-form from a 'lower' dimension; the Spectral Sea. They're masssless and can move through solid matter with impunity. However, high temperatures like fire can severely damage and kill them regardless of form. Bright lights also damage them, so they remain incorporeal in daytime. This is something they've never been exposed to, as the Spectral Sea is a uniform, boring plane without temperature. SEs take on three main forms at the moment. All three have access to a different Tear, that directs them to a part of the globe. At the moment, SEs cannot enter each others Tears. When on Earth, SEs are incorporeal and invisible, until they choose to make themselves seen. Each SE has an ability to induce a MINOR Hallucination, Visual or Auditory, though by default, they lack the intelligence to use speech or make complex moving figures. They usually settle for things like rattling sounds, making it look like blood is dripping from walls, making shadows crawl and writhe, whatever sorts of primal fears that Humans still hold on to.> Why do they terrorise humans? In the Spectral Sea, the SEs eat each other, as well as delicious Ectoplasm that rains from above endlessly. But after being exposed to Humans, the three strains learned separately that they could nourish themselves on the Fears of their new targets. Causing them to experience fear will feed an SE, and so, they're incentivised to draw out as much of the emotion as they can. Due to their link to the Collective Unconscious, SEs are gradually learning more and more complicated fears, rooted deep in the culture of the places they haunt. > BiologySEs are made of Phase-matter, which is an ambiguous, anomalous mass of soft material. They can develop sensory organs, harder parts of their body, and grow without regard for physical biology. Their forms will eventually change heavily based on the shapes they take to scare humans, as well as predation on each other. At the moment, all SEs are vulnerable to flames and heat, as well as bright light while in a visible form. SEs cannot remain in the Human World indefinitely. After a period has passed, they'll be shunted back into the Spectral Sea. This is just to give every SE a valid reason for attaining SE evolutions.
The first SE is Limpwit. These little sackcloth creatures swim in the Spectral Sea by flicking their lower bodies. They have 'stitches' over a slightly hardened shell, to keep their matter in. The little buddies bash other SEs with their heads, and use their mouths to suck out the matter that spills into the sea.The Tear in Limpwit territory has opened in the vast, boring, empty OHIO. A newly discovered ability of the Limpwit is to rot plant matter by phasing into it and attempting to turn corporeal. Like all the others, they can induce mild hallucinations in a human, though it can't be something particularly detailed or intelligent.
Limpwits have manifested in a rather empty, rural part of OHIO. There are cornfields all over the place, Amish communities scattered, and a low population density in the area. At the moment, the concepts that stand out the most among locals are the harsh realities of living on a farm, unknown imaginary monsters and cryptids that stalk the woods, and coyotes that howl in the night and threaten to kill livestock. There's a certain gloominess to it, and the permeating fear of the unknown in the wilderness. If this isn't actually what Ohio is like, whoops. I don't go to Ohio, I have no fucking clue.Ohio is UNAWARE in terms of TerrorOhio is UNAWARE in terms of Hostility
The second creature is the Rusa. These little creatures are bright and vibrant. They crackle with colour in the Spectral Sea, and are social creatures who group together. They ward off predators with the little spikes on their lower bodies, and are content to absorb Ectoplasm instead of hunting. Until they discovered the Tear, that is. Rusa can induce the same minor hallucination. They've appeared in Tokyo, where Neon lights and electronics are aplenty. They also have the ability to disrupt electronics, causing lights to flicker, fans to stutter, and appliances to whirr. Exercising it for a brief moment is usually enough to get a brief spike of fright from a couple of people in a room, providing an easy source of food.
The sprawling metropolis is lively and vibrant. Plenty of tourists here too, so apart from the myths and superstitions on Japan, there are plenty of tourists to prey on. Rusa can take advantage of the big-city life to exploit the fears of the populace. Maybe they could mess with a businessman's phone in the middle of an important call, filling him with terror at the prospect of being fired. Or they could take on forms of the dozens of urban legends and creatures available. Tokyo is UNAWARE in terms of TerrorTokyo is UNAWARE in terms of Hostility
The third of our Spectral Entities are Uwaves. These are the fastest among the three, when it comes to navigating the Spectral Sea. They paddle swiftly with the three limbs beneath them, and use their tails to change directions. They tend to do hit and run attacks, breaking off bits of other SEs and quickly absconding with them. These fellas have spawned in VENICE. They have a bit more corporeality in the Human World, compared to others. By ramming into something, they can cause a mere fraction of the physical force to transfer, and influence the object. They can cause mops and brooms to topple, send glasses off tables, and maybe cause doors to slam. This only affects OBJECTS at the moment.
Uwaves have arrived in idyllic, wonderful Venice. Pretend it isn't in quarantine at the moment, and everyone is still out and about. Canals stretch throughout the city, and life is bright and beautiful. However, hydrophobes definitely have a hard time growing up in a city where the roads are watery. There's also the looming fact that the city-state is slowly sinking into the sea. Venice is UNAWARE in terms of TerrorVenice is UNAWARE in terms of Hostility
Lastly, here's Ectoplasm. It's an anomalous blob of raw potential, forming singular units. It constantly comes into existence. It's essentially the 'plant'. The equivalent of fish food being dumped continually in the Spectral Sea, for SEs to consume.> The Tears have been opened, and the SEs have been unleashed onto an unsuspecting world. Get to terrorising, anons. If you aren't interested in the human aspect, feel free to solely craft an ecosystem in the Spectral Sea. Have fun!First event will happen depending on interest.
>>4232392some rusa take in the concept of pants and grow out of there own mass it acts as a way to store minute amounts of electricity barely to static electricity levels but its unpleasant to the ghosts around them when they get "kicked"
>>4232384Just a quick example of a scaring adaptation. The Limpwit has developed a reflective film over its eyespots and mouth. It stays within fields of grain, staring out at adjacent farmhouses. It mimics an unnerving face in the darkness, staring straight into the homes of farmers. When they check out the fields the next morning, they find that the crops where the face was spotted are all wilted. The Limpwit lingers invisibly, slurping up the fresh fear they feel at the sight.
>>4232392On the tips of its spark-whiskers, the Rusa grows little finger-like rods that allow it to better link together with other Rusa to scare off predators.
>>4232551Some Rusa flip themselves upside down to better scare Humans. After all, the concept of 'horns' is slightly more spooky. At least, to their primitive understanding. They tend to flicker neon signs, vaguely revealing themselves to people in the dead of night.
>>4232554The Limpwit gains a bigger "toothy" mouth and sharper eyes, making it scarier.
>>4232404uwave take in the concepts of sharks, this fin allows for them to actually swim in a straight line and make sharper turns, a side effect of this is gaining a mouth its quite useful to snatch up stray ectoplasm and chunks of rusa or limpwit when they can. and humans are a bit scared of something rushing under the water and the sight of a white fin, the uwave are not smart but they know if they make some noise in the water and let the humans see just the fin rushing towards them before diving down just near them the humans will be quite surprised and frightened getting them a tasty tiny little morsel for little work Even if it's brief, the sight of a sharp fin in the water is enough for a minor spook, Even just being a random flash of motion is enough for a single morsel of fear, like eating a cookie.
>>4232567Using its whisker-hands, the Rusa gains the ability to send simple but precise pulses through electronics circuits, mainly through buttons and switches and whatnot. They usually use this ability to turn electronics on and/or off, which can be pretty spooky in the right situation.
>>4232602The Limpwit has grown larger teeth. It uses this in conjunction with its wilting, to create patterns on the crops that it destroys. Grain and veggies appear to have rotting bites taken out of them.It still can't physically bite the objects, but the effect is convincing enough. Local farmers begin to fear some creature lurking in the fields.
>>4232420Ectoplasm near the Ohio tear has undergone a strange transformation. Thanks to the fear caused by limpwits some of that fear has started to spill into the Spectral Sea. This fear is commonly absorbed by Ectoplasm causing it to grow. This particular strain has taken on a yellowish tint and grows in a strange budding pattern.
>>4232862How embarrassing, I forgot the picture.
>>4232776The Jackwit has gone one step further in its pattern-making skills and has begun making spooky faces on the crops it possesses. Although it may be a bit silly, farmers are still left unnerved by the fact that someone went out of their way to make jack-o-lanterns a large chunk of their potatoes.
>>4232384A Limpstick to cause fear using its "wood" pole to leave a trail it does this by stamping in the ground and swishing in the direction it want to moves and alternating to the left and right in a zigzag pattern to leave a pattern in the grass making it look like something walked on wood poles or had extremely thin legs
>>4233050Jackwit takes in some concept of a grain sack, allowing them to store fear and food for latter like how grain can be taken out of a bag when its needed or how fat is burned in lean times this lets them to take better advantage of constant minor fears and really soak up and feast on that juicy actual scare.
>>4232585The Rusa's horns become similar in structure to tesla coils, allowing for greater storage of electricity. This also allows it to shoot big flashy bursts of electricity, which it can use to shoot at predators and fry electronic equipment.
>>4232404This Uwave uses its fuzzy legs by turning invisible and slightly tickling a human, as if something were crawling on its back.
>>4233334The Jackwit has become more predatory due to its sharp teeth and the ability to open its mouth. This also makes it slightly scarier.
>>4233702The Jackwit begins to resemble an alligator a little bit, because gators in the fields are scary.
>>4233374Rusas gain more tesla coils. This is very energy hungry so, they also gain the ability to steal electricity from other Rusas.
>>4233537the uwave casts a light in dark corners of venice at night. People are lured there and they use their fuzzy legs to act like a and on a shoulder. Once they turn back, it disables the light
>>4232404Bigger fins make the Uwave's hit and run tactics more effective.
>>4234160The Rusa's eyes also function as batteries in order to better store energy.
>>4234310As the Rusa's ability to mess with electronics gets more sophisticated, it needs a dedicated brain for controlling it.
Seems like it's time for a status update, and a small event. Really loving the evolutions so far! I'll make a phylogeny chart to go with the update.
>>4234181The Uwave can now "cry" fog. While it likes to use it to confuse predator and prey alike, it especially likes to fog up dark Venice nights, often accompanied by eerie sounds of footsteps or moans. Additionally, it's light has been absorbed into its eyes to better see within its fog.

>>4234220some uwave mirrored there body allowing them to swim faster in short bursts but as a side effect the last fin smacks into the tail so without thinking of it or deliberately can clap/smack them together they take advantage of this by rhythmically clapping its tail with the pattern of a human walking. they even hang around dark areas where humans usually clap like at a theater or concert hall that still have people there under the night like janitors
>>4233702The Jackwit can screech quite to scare off other predators, as well as humans. However, on a possessed crop it has slightly refined it corporeal manipulation, able move it the eye and mouth patterns and udder a simple "boo". While it is a relatively simple power, farmers will get a big shock out of a talking plant.
>>4232388As the Limpwit and Jackwit families terrorise Ohio, farmers find parts of their fields decayed and wilted, with odd symbols and malevolent markings left behind. Farmers are a superstitious folk, and they quickly pick up on the fact that something is going on. Word spreads quickly, and communities keep an eye out for the spirits that seem to have been angered. As the SEs haven't caused actual harm, apart from controlled destruction of crops, the Farmers haven't been pushed enough to fight back yet. Of course, there's always the few who whip out their shotguns and try to take a crack at the otherworldly invaders. Ohio is UNSETTLED in terms of TerrorOhio is VIGILANT in terms of Hostility.Terror levels:0: Unaware1: Unsettled2: Intimidated3: Fearful4: Horrified5: TormentedHostility levels:0: Unaware1: Vigilant2: Confrontational3: Angered4: Furious5: Wrathful As Terror levels increase, SEs are able to gain more nutrition and grow stronger. However, going a violent route or taking things too far are bound to anger the humans. As hostility rises, Humans may begin taking measures to catalogue, wage war on, and fight back against SEs.
>>4234389The Uwave grow larger and gains blunt front horn to both ram into prey and increase its power to move objects.
>>4232400Across Tokyo, electrical interference seems to be at an all-time high. Sometimes, important equipment short-circuits due to overzealous Rusa. More than a couple of blackouts have been caused by too many of them haunting the same area. Citizens have become more used to the lights flickering on and off intermittently. That tactic loses a bit of effectiveness. What can't be adapted to, however, is the sight of the SEs appearing from thin air moments later. Rumours travel quickly, especially among schoolchildren, of strange unidentified creatures that are feeding on electricity. Some claim to have been zapped by them, and a few grainy photos have started circulating. None are anything more distinct than a magenta smear, however.Aspiring ghost hunters and bored teens have taken to exploring abandoned buildings. This provides the perfect fodder for the SEs to fulfil their wishes, or to avoid them if they're conscious about raising awareness.Tokyo is UNSETTLED in terms of Terror.Tokyo is UNAWARE in terms of Hostility.
**EVENT!** Venetians have constantly spotted strange figures and phenomena around their city. The nightly fog of the >>4234371 Uwaves are particularly effective at scaring them. The dancing lights >>4234181 and odd sounds >>4234389 creep people out, and plenty have tried to catalogue the strange phenomena. However, as the rumours rapidly get more and more prevalent, experts have stepped up with their own explanation for the events. The brightest at Università Ca' Foscari have proposed an alternate explanation, encouraging the public to believe in it over 'ghosts' that have come out of nowhere.**FEAR** of the SEs decrease across Venice. While some are still suspicious, and are trying to record these odd creatures in action, the general public has been reassured by the news publication. Uwaves now have a harder time scaring targets. **Uwave lines have the opportunity to more rapidly develop stronger, less explainable methods of scaring people.** It's a delicate balance, however. Push too hard and there'll no longer be a way to disprove the existence of SEs.Venice is UNAWARE in terms of Terror.Venice is UNAWARE in terms of Hostility.
Here's the Phylogeny chart so far. Right now, it seems like the Wit Line is the most likely candidate for a carnivore in the spectral sea.
>>4234408Uwaves develop from the rich culture of Venice. They have growths similar to Carnivale masks, so that when they scare people, they'll be looking straight at a creepy floating mask that quickly disappears.
>>4233204The Limpstick has extended its 'pole' of hard phase-matter to form limbs. It tends to knock down scarecrows and take their place, making sure farmers get a good view of the figure moving back and forth in the fields.
>>4234371the uwave develops a cloak which fades in when it fades out. The cloak only appears when it turns invisible. The sight makes many think they are about to be mugged, especially when the lights turn off
>>4234420Scarefarmers act like scarecrows... at least until a farmer gets too close. When it does, it rips off its face, revealing a bloody mess, feeding on the Farmers' fear. After it's done, it disappears into the night.
>>4234420To clarify, they knock scarecrows down by rotting the wood that the sticks are made of. They can’t physically topple em yet. This one was my mistake for not thinking more about it, I almost forgot about the capabilities I laid out in the first place.
>>4232666The Rusa gains a harder layer to its bottom spikes. They use these to ward off predators and pop other SEs for their phase-matter. Groups of Rusa who link together form large spike walls that can repel predators.
>>4233204some Limpsticks take on the concept of a hammer it does not make them harder but its better at applying force and getting it in the mouth directly when feeding especially when they swing there body from the base of there stick getting a good swing for that BONK
>>4234445Limpbonks, by taking in the concept of a hammer even harder, have gained the ability to give farmers a hard BONK when they touch it. It's not enough to knock them out, but it's enough to hurt.
>>4234135Some Jackwit continue developing limbs, to slowly resemble the shape of an animal. These ones have found a rather novel strategy. Instead of appearing in the fields, they invade houses and hide in the bathtubs. When victims take a bath, the Jackwit turns itself visible, with only its upper 'jaw' visible above the water. A tiny gator in the tub is enough to make anyone panic and freak out.
>>4232663Some Uwave become larger, and more sharklike, to better scare those who sight them. Hiding in the murky waters allow them to hunt in the daytime as well, since all they have to do is stick their fins out of the water. These ones tend to nip at their Uwave cousins when they see them, trying to get a nibble even when out of the Spectral sea.
>>4234454Some Jackwits continue to develop animal parts at random. It seems its ability to wilt plants can extend to cloth made of plant material, rotting the cloth faster.
>>4234450Heya, I've gotta veto this a little. Making a jump to hitting farmers is a bit too much at the moment. Here's an example of Uwave Telekinesis: > By ramming into something, they can cause a mere fraction of the physical force to transfer, and influence the object. They can cause mops and brooms to topple, send glasses off tables, and maybe cause doors to slam.At the moment, the SEs aren't that efficient at applying force to the physical world. So an alternative to this >>4234450 that I suggest would be extending the hallucination to a sensory one, to inflict a fraction of imaginary pain onto the farmers.
>>4234459Sure, that's fine.
>>4234356The Rushime has noticed that its general shape is reminiscent of an existing Japanese legend. It's not exactly... That scary. However, they're carrying out their usual activities while shifting their form and growing in size, to copy the anus-eyed Shirime. Who knows, maybe it'll work at being scary once they achieve it.
>>4234456Triwaves scare people by projecting the image of a three-headed shark. It seems that having multiple brains has improved its telekinesis by a bit.
>>4234356The Rusta gains a mouth similar to a jumper cable, along with the ability to start up long abandoned or non-functioning pieces of electronics. It likes to haunt the many of the abandoned military bases in Tokyo, and as such it has gained a more "worn out" look. Additionally, it has grown in size to store more electricity.
>>4234467Due to developing its electrical powers further, the Rushime has discovered magnetism. It can now lift small objects off the ground. However, this is very stressful and drains their 'batteries', thus they have to be belligerent in hunting electrical sources or even other electricity-producing Rusa variants.
>>4234422Uwraiths gain a more upright posture, increasing their height to form a more convincing silhouette.
>>4233702on the earthly plane where other SEs are making a racket its not hard to find them destroying plants, but this Jack DOES NOT CARE FOR VEGETABLES OR FRUIT this jack want to sink there teeth in other SEs and find them with there new ears and eyes taken from the concepts of Canines it takes in randomly the concept of jackal mostly, they seek out >>4232554 all from these lines attacking them when they stand in the fields when humans see the limpwits to make a dramatic battle with a howl and snarls feasting on other "ghosts" and getting a big healthy snack of human fear as the humans see what they fear get attacked and devoured by something scarier showing its fangs and big yellow eyes. the Jack o wit is having a feast on the earthly plane.
>>4234486Uwraiths develop a claw for 'tapping' people. It seems they like to touch peoples' necks.
>>4234457The Scarimera has taken on even more animal like parts, becoming akin to a freakish taxidermy project.
>>4233702Some Jackwits take on the shape of a hanged corpse instead. They're too small to be convincing as a human figure just yet, so it's not as effective as it could be. Red pigment seeps through the cloth.
>>4234420The Stridestick's leg seperates into two, making walking and leaving tracks easier. It's limbs have also lengthened greatly, doubling their height with their legs alone.
>>4234522The Scarimera uses its illusory abilities to make peopole believe they are being chased in their dreams. When they wake up, they find that their blankets have rotted around them.
>>4234560I like this a lot. In the next update for Ohio, will be sure to mention the variety of cryptids. >>4234483The Rusta develops an organelle that allows it to pump electricity back into circuits. This can cause power trips, and causes certain types of bulbs and devices to blow out. It continues haunting areas that attract thrill-seeking ghost hunters, messing with ancient electronics to scare them.
>>4234571Sparkas have developed their Electrokinesis into minor Pyrokinesis. They can cause small sparks and manipulate the fire of candles. Not very useful in concrete-lined Tokyo, however seeing a small spark of flame in the darkness can be scary for some people.
>>4234468The Triwaves have improved their ability to interact with items. Apart from exerting force, they're now able to press down hard on things. They've developed sharp teeth along their triple mouths, and tend to bite objects in the water. Triwaves work together to knock things into the canal, and then chomp them to leave tooth marks, making Humans wonder what the hell is lurking inside.
>>4234587Some Triwaves have had a taste of ghost flesh in the Spectral Sea. It seems like their shark-like adaptations have also morphed their minds into a more predatorial manner. On top of wanting delicious ghost meat, they might even try to bite and mark humans who stick their hand in the water.
>>4234595tri waves lower heads have fused making a bigger bite mark with its lower jaws and it has become more shark now stearing with its front fins and using its tail to generate propulsion like a shark this makes them quicker in straight lines, they will charge plastic debris or drift wood biting or ramming into it
>>4234631Trishovels use their prodigous jaws to move earth and stray wood, making mounds and dams. When humans stray too close to the structures, they make themselves known, then swim away when the person is surprised.
>>4234450Some Limpbonks have shifted their form a little. Coincidentally, there's a similar shape that humans fear quite a bit. The sack starts to tear, revealing the hard material underneath. It slowly starts to take on the shape of a revolver, frightening people with sudden loud gunshots. They've picked up on it after being fired at by rednecks.Additionally, these Limbonks are slightly more durable in the Spectral Sea, due to their solid bits.
>>4234649The Limpbonk's favorite tactic is producing illusory pain. It has lost its ability to wilt plants in order to produce pain better. It can produce various kinds of pain, from dull to stinging. A truly variable moveset for producing fear.
>>4234552Some Stridesticks gain joints along their limbs, so they can animate themselves a bit more fluidly. Green growths have appeared on them, to copy the appearance of leaves. The creatures have gained the habit of gathering on roadsides and facing cars. Gaggles of child-sized figures stare mournfully at passing drivers, making them hallucinate the sound of tearful, anguished crying.
not much ectoplasm adaptations. i would join the game if i didn't have huge misfortune with art programs.
>>4232585Some Rusas are born with a second pair of limbs on the other side of the body. By hooking onto a pair of power cables and allowing electricity to pass through it's body, it generates a weak force. While this force wouldn't be enough to move even the lightest metal wire, the Rusa's mass is near zero, and thus it is propelled with incredible speeds.Of course, adding an extra pathway for electricity to the finely tuned cables screws the whole system up a bit, so these Rusas cause power to fluctuate whenever they use this mode of transportation.
>>4232420It seems the humble ectoplasm has gained two adaptations. The first is the ability to sense SEs near it, and the second is to sense any Ectoplasm near it.It swims away from SEs and swims towards other Ectoplasm.
>>4234492they use the rope to form prehensile limbs that they use with there new nails to grapple and wound there prey so they can go in for a more sure and violent death, instead of roaming the fields they hang around the farmers because they can feed on the scares of other SEs beings and eat the other SEs because a human is a near 100% for another SEs to come near especially>>4234450 who come near to humans to cause them pain.
Sorry for the lack of updates, been busy. Will write up the status update soon, and work on the second event.Roll d3 for which city will be affected by the event. Awareness will be going up. First roll will be chosen.1- Ohio 2- Tokyo 3- Venice

>>4234425the scare farmer bloats up on fear and anxiety they dont always jump scare the farmers sometimes just lurking in the background as a constant thing a reminder
>>4237795These scarefarmers have the ability to lightly touch farmers in the face after jumpscaring them (And only after Jumpscaring them, not before) as the fear generates enough energy to allow them to affect the real world for a short while. It seems touching farmers in the face is scarier than just jumpscaring them.
>>4237807i want a big toddler body on that thing
>>4237771Oh jeez, Venice again. Alright, here we go.
>>4234404The upsurge of SEs have had locals spooked lately. Across the more rural part of the countryside, citizens begin staying indoors as much as they can, and past sundown, few dare to linger in the fields. Many farmers have opted to take down their scarecrows and burn them, yet they still spot figures in the fields sometimes. To make matters worse, odd, completely unexplained cryptids have been spotted in the area. There are growing forum communities dedicated to finding out more and circulating pictures. Some still believe it's a hoax, but the majority of residents have become acquainted with SEs. The fact that some SEs can physically impact the world causes fear to skyrocket. Seeing figures is one thing. Having a flayed beast touch you, or a hammer slam into your back is something else entirely. The worst is when blankets and clothing seem to rot and decay, their organic components disintegrating without a trace. Ohio is FEARFUL in terms of Terror.Ohio is CONFRONTATIONAL in terms of Hostility. Awareness of paranormal activity in Ohio is increasing. The government is gradually taking notice.
>>4234409The electric interference still hasn't been fixed, and local authorities are stumped. Few workers dare to actually pass up to their superiors that invisible pink ghosts appear around the damaged electronics, so word is taking a long time to spread. For now, the nation has gotten used to the electricity being on the fritz. For those who seek out spirits, they find their efforts rewarded. Minor phenomena like exploding bulbs, floating objects (Tiny things like nails) and random sparks of fire have been recorded on film.Tokyo is UNSETTLED in terms of Terror.Tokyo is VIGILANT in terms of Hostility.Tokyo has gotten used to most of the SE techniques, and awareness is low. More extreme measures are needed, or the SEs will begin to starve.
>>4234414While the 'expert opinion' in Venice has put off fear for a while, it soon becomes evident that most of the activity can't be explained by science. Scientists heading out to confirm the hypothesis end up seeing the SEs for themselves, and taking an interest in it. The reports of strange fish in the canals have sparked notice too. Anglers and aquarium enthusiasts head out at night to try and trap these new species, providing the SEs prime targets to scare. Unfortunately, the ones that bite and mark humans have made them vigilant against the odd creatures. Venice is UNSETTLED in terms of Terror.Venice is VIGILANT in terms of Hostility. Targets for the SEs increase. More opportunities to scare are present, and the Uwave line of SEs can grow bigger.
Event!Due to having his theory on the weather phenomena refuted and dismissed by his peers, the shamed scientist Massimo Pesci takes to the streets of Venice. There, he encounters a >>4234496 Uwraith by himself. Massimo Pesci is not one to dismiss such a thing as a trick of the light. The man quickly comes up with the hypothesis that this is some sort of undiscovered organism. The fact that they shimmer in and out of existence is something that needs to be explained. He devotes himself to cataloguing and potentially trapping one of these odd entities. Paranormal Investigator gained: Massimo Pesci.Understanding: 5%As understanding increases, the research groups gain more and more awareness of the SEs, including how to damage and detect them. At 20% understanding, the SEs become aware of their interference, and are able to disrupt their efforts through their own actions, at the cost of potentially increasing awareness.
Updated Phylogeny chart.
>>4234665The Stridestick grows larger to become more noticeable and look more like a toddler.

>>4234310the rusa is angry the dumb humans are giving less and less and they hunger they start to look like Chōchin-Obake "childish spirits who likes to play pranks on humans rarely causes physical harm, preferring simply to surprise and scare humans. but like the stories of onryō(vengeful spirits) have who have been known to disguise themselves as chōchin obake" this lantern looking spirit is filled with anger, but simply like a childish tantrum over humans giving less and its tantrum is load and angry flying high attracting lightning to try and make a as spectacular and violent show it can in the sky with the goal of being as loud and flashy it can be so humans will pay attention to it.(they are not at all powerful on there own or not even as a big group simply making paths of more conductivity for lightning to jump inside clouds and making clouds more likely to produce lightning and thunder while this show is scary looking it actually disperses and attracts thunder away from the ground making them quite harmless in there swarms but very loud)(they have a form of play where they pass lightning chains between the clouds this forms bonds and makes it more likely for them to stay with each other even in the spectral sea like a school of fish playing with each other)
>>4239955(they cant do this lightning show that often its quite tiring and they do actually need to wait for naturally occurring thunders clouds to form so they can play around)
>>4239414The Suicidal Stridestick learned that standing in *front* of cars creates more fear than standing *beside* them, and poses no risk to an incorporeal being like itself. It has also grown taller and gained a shinier, less patchlike skin.
>>4239955Man looks like you took my lightning rod idea and made it better>>4240048Next thing you'll know they will be riding with you
>>4240097hmm not a bad idea horses and a man horse hybrids is a cryptid a fleshy humanoid torso in the middle of a horse back that is
>>4240048the strider changes it proportions to increase the amount of fear, more mobile joints, rounder heads and longer arms, they will even walk towards the car slowly limping and other style changes like the head being twisted to the side or positions erect forward or having the arms hang limp, the style of walking towards the car is very individual.
>>4232666The Rusa now has the ability to project video or audio into electronics by either direct possession or jamming signals. It has also grown darker to be more stealthy.
>>4240927Suicidal Stridesticks develop pitch black eyes and a creepy hunch.
>>4240927The Stridestone has taken on the appearance of a huge statue to make it more big and imposing.
>>4240979The Rusa gains more antennae, allowing it to increase the range of its projections (Just to adjacent apartments). Its ability to cause hallucinations has been boosted, allowing it to customise what its targets see in the static of the television. Combined with button pushing, they cause tvs to turn on mysteriously, with odd figures and strange shapes visible in the haze of black and white noise.
>>4234419The Uwave has gained flat extensions on the tips of its fins. It uses these to slap the ground rapidly, giving the impression of someone running at night. They stalk people down alleyways, chasing them down and causing them to hallucinate figures running after them. The mask also gets a little fancier.
>>4234485The Rushime gains a vestigial 'mouth', both to process ectoplasm, and to form a complete face. They appear on shelves and flat surfaces, near eye-level, and leer at humans with their twisted heads. The sight is enough to startle most, and serves as a new way to feed off fear.
>>4234643The Red Trishovel has had one of its multiple heads take over instead. The red one forcefully flipping itself over has given the creature an overbite. This branch becomes far more active in the spectral sea, and far more hostile to humans when it materialises on Earth. It goes as far as to bite and gnaw on people, leaving phantom wounds with reckless abandon.
>>4241327the red grows stronger bulking up this help them to survive and overpower in shovel on shovel violence in spectral sea and human world violence but this bulk comes at the cost of speed and stearing from a flattened fin
>>4241073The Stridestone has taken up the scary form of a certain collaborative horror article. When there are no cars to stand in front of, it will find people wandering around and either follow them or sneak up behind them when they are not looking.
Ghost cannot evolve you silly OP.
>>4242784its not really ghosts its more alternate reality energy beings
>>4241073The Stridestone has discovered that when accompanied by suffering, fear produces a marginally larger amount of energy, about 102% of it's usual payoff. Thus, it has taken to storing hard objects, such as rocks, broken glass, and trashed car components, in a cavity within it's body. While the creature itself may be incorporeal, it's contents are very real, and very good at breaking a car's windshield.
>>4234496the uwraiths now have the upper half of a human. They lure people into the water by congregating and walking there. The locals believe it is a cult
>>4244661He's 50cm.Is he a tiny cultist?
>>4234631the green has overtaken the mix emerging from the maw to snap on who would disturb it snapping things laying on the edge to the deep dark waters with its many small teeth on the inside of its mouth like a moray ell like mouth
Event soon.Ohio will be receiving some Paranormal investigators. Roll a d8 to see how much they can discover right off the bat.Roll a 2nd d8 for Masimo Pesci's >>4239338progress. Rolled 3 (1d4)>>4247043
would've rolled if i was here
>>4232384limp pole instead of just flicking and jumping around in the spectral seas instead they move forward with quick bursts directed with there now tail forming the lower body and they eat by swimming into food with there constantly open mouths and smashing into bigger things
>>4232420cubes are the optimal simple form for building and connecting it is a optimal shape for such things and its not much a food shape for SEs not as tasty looking due to its unfamiliar nature
>>4232865The mutation of the Ectoplasm has progressed even further. Its now fully defined form resembles that of the strange objects that dominate the otherside of the rift. The Ectoform posses "leaves" that give the Ectoform a bigger surface area to absorb fear.
>>4249017they cluster up in a fashion to become harder to consume and better mimic and leech up the energy from ohio tears
>>4239955just waiting for a real storm to feed on in the real world is not the most stable lifestyle for a SEs entity in the human world or a mildly static door handle people are getting harder and harder to scare so when people dont expect it thunder caps jump into water puddles and people who sleep with there feet exposed giving them a good old scare and shock thats not harmful but generates more of a scare then the door knob thats mostly just annoyance at this point where other zapper frequent
>>4239325Compared to the last time, SE influence has skyrocketed. The sheer frequency of mysterious figures on the road have made the situation impossible to ignore. Multiple fatal accidents have occurred, due to drivers having to swerve their cars abruptly, or having their windshields shattered out of nowhere. While there's not as much potential for mass pileups in the rural regions, solo drivers that crash into ditches or end up skidding off hills are unable to get help, and tend to die from their injuries while stuck in their vehicles. Dashcam footage confirms sightings far more efficiently than anecdotal evidence would be able to.Cryptid hunters continue attempting to trap and locate odd sightings >>4240980. But obviously, they're unable to actually capture them. Local media becomes saturated with information on it, and it happens too abruptly for it to be censored.GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION INCOMING.Ohio is FEARFUL in terms of Terror.Ohio is FURIOUS in terms of Hostility.
>>4239329The >>4239955 are a bit more familiar as a local legend. Their displays put on a stronger show of force than previous Rusa generations. Similarly, the broadcasting type of Rusa >>4241304 are able to capitalise far more effectively on human fear. Tokyo is UNSETTLED in terms of Terror.Tokyo is VIGILANT in terms of Hostility. All Rusa evolved after the previous status update >>4239329 are able to proliferate as per normal. However, all Rusa generations that haven't been evolved begin to dwindle, and are out-competed for food by their brethren. Extinction incoming for the ones that can't keep up.
>>4239333The new branches of shark-like Uwave are more capable of damaging and harming Venetians, though nobody has died yet. Fishermen are absolutely baffled by their existence. The occasional sighting has been photographed and recorded, and the 'spirit fish of Venice' have become a local point of intrigue. After spotting Uwraiths >>4244661, some locals have began to theorise that there's a connection between the ghostly fish, and the mysterious figures who stalk the streets and congregate along the canals in the dead of night, while fog rolls in to obscure them. The police are unable to do anything, as the cult mysteriously vanishes when they go near them. Venice is INTIMIDATED in terms of Terror.Venice is CONFRONTATIONAL in terms of Hostility.Venice experiences general unease at the existence of an unpredictable cult. This surge of ever-present negativity serves as a new food source for the SEs. Members of the Uwave line are able to affect the human world more and more, and grow larger on fear and anxiety.
>>4250799Faced with hundreds of recordings, as well as visual confirmation from deployed Agents, the FBI forms a covert agency to investigate sightings. These new Paranormal Investigators, known internally as Greenwich, begin setting up bases of operations in Ohio. Residents begin seeing the typical black vans and mysterious government personnel, lingering around the sights of SE incidents while attempting to locate them.>>4247043>>4247094>Rolled 4Paranormal Investigator gained: Greenwich (US Agency)Understanding: 8%Rather early on in their research, Greenwich operatives are frightened by an assault by a Limpbonk >>4234660. The creature inflicts pain on the Agents, confirming signs of hostility. What's even more frightening to the Agents, however, is a second entity >>4236239 materialising right before them and tearing the opposing SE to shreds. Greenwich Agent Josephine Walker swears it made direct eye contact with her.Greenwich gains the insight that these creatures are unharmed by conventional weapons, but are able to prey on or kill each other.
>>4239338Massimo Pesci continues his research. His new leads are the spirit fish and their surrounding cult.>>4247043>>4247094>Rolled 3Massimo PesciUnderstanding: 11%Massimo Pesci comes to an understanding. These creatures are very much real, and distinct species exist. He catalogues the Uwraith >>4234496 surprisingly easily, by walking down the streets alone at night. He's able to draw out sightings of them semi-regularly, though traps and nets have all failed to capture them..From this, he can vaguely divine that they have some purpose. They've never killed anyone, certainly, and have only delivered superficial bites. The investigator resolves to secure a meeting with the cult to learn more about their faith. Unfortunately, any attempts at making contact are met with dead ends. Suspicions brew in his mind.
>>4244661noticing the fear of the people, the uwraith becomes bigger and gains a hand which it can lay a hand on people with. Its fog becomes much colder and groups of them chant in harmony. The chants are mostly gibberish however
>>4239338>>4247043>>4247129Event!FloodingA recent surge of rainfall, coupled with seasonal tides, has left the streets of Venice flooded. Next update, Massimo Pesci's efforts will certainly be hindered. Water rises up to waist-level in many parts of the city, causing damage to infrastructure and harming livelihood. Not very positive. For the humans, that is. With water rising up to dangerous levels, the Uwaves are given worlds of new possibility. Perhaps they could pull people under, or make use of their hallucinations, or simply use the water as a hiding place. Whatever it is, their evolution is, as usual, a fine line they have to straddle. Go too hard one way, and they risk discovery. Go too hard the other, and risk starvation.
GLOBAL EFFECTTheir influence on Humanity as a whole has started to shape the culture of their haunting-grounds, just as much as the act itself shapes the SEs. The ghostly creatures grow more attuned to their prey of choice, and can extract more precious sustenance. From this point on, SEs are able to slowly start branching out to different emotions. Please make this change gradual and slow. Don't have them completely adapt to another emotion right off the bat, and keep it to emotions that are reasonably close to fear. Art credit: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/8DdeR
We aren't at that point yet, but I'm now considering making new tears for the creatures. Each ID gets three votes for new regions of the worlds that the lines of SEs will be able to access. They have to be three different places. Please specify what SEs you want in each new tear location.
>>4250864i vote for London for the uwave line
>>4234902The Rusas convert one of their eyes into an electrosensory organ, allowing them to detect where energy fluctuations are happening and thus deduce where other Rusas are afoot. It will then quickly zip to that location, and feed off whatever fear the other Rusa hasn't yet consumed. It's not a particularly glorious lifestyle, but it'll do.
>>4250864i vote texas for the jackwits

>>4250864Texas for the Limpwits, Korea for the Rusas, and London for the Uwaves.
>>4237807scare beast gluts on the disgust and fear of humans to better scare humans it has developed the power TOUCH this power is quite limited they can only exert a low force with there body and its only there surface and if to much force is put on them or if they try and put to much force in it they will cancel the effect of touch making them totally incorporeal again and forcefully demanifesting them from visibility (it could be seen like a soap bubble if it or something exerts too much force on it or it exerts to much force it pops)they use this to really get close to a human sometimes in there homes under the beds or in closest breathing heavily by moving air in and out slowly and showing its body little by little with its skin less body filled to the bursting "seams" straining. bloody exposed muscles teeth big and blunt like rocks rough neck of burlap gums caked in dried red liquid, head with eyeless sockets without skin like a skinned tongue in a giant maw. and no lower body just ending abruptly and a stick poking out of the bottom. it will softly touch you stroking your face and hair breathing heavily on you if you stay still in your bed. with its dry but wet feeling cold flesh.
>>4250864London for Uwave, Mexico City for Jackwit, and Shanghai for Rusa.
>>4252613tell me about your choices
>>4252740London because of fog and history but hard to get fear, Mexico City because of bloody Aztec history and alternate fear sources (cartel) and Shanghai because of urban electricity + local legends
>>4253948Maybe I should swap over to Shanghai instead of South Korea? Shanghai does sound better though I honestly prefer Texas over Mexico City. Mexico City could end up complicated if we try and actively get fear but it has enough regular terror for the ghost not to actually do anything.
>>4258310Yeah, I'm thinking Mexico because it's a 'harder' ecosystem, kinda like deserts in regular evogames (or IRL). Lack of easily-accessible fear, or perhaps just a different sources of fear.
Some suicidal stridestick have moved away from their traditional methods of fear: in stead of standing or walking in front of a vehicle, they will instead shadow vehicles just out of their vision range, so that they will, for example, occasionally be seen in mirrors while travelling, or just above/ahead of a vehicle. They are capable of producing a 'proximity effect' of what might be described as mental static, causing victims to lose concentration and often resulting in crashes or other accidents. They have lost their lower limbs, and now float in the air at arbitrarily fast speeds. They have also lost their eye-markings, as an eyeless face initiates more of a fear responce in some contexts than one with eyes. For the same reason, they have lost the teeth in the mouth cavity (as well as having no more need for them) and the mouth has grown much bigger and wider. Their skin is a pale white, to be better visible at nighttime.
