/qst/ - Quests

Your name is Travis L. Durakov and you have died. To be more specific, you were tortured to death by a psychopathic politician after failing to assassinate him and then thrown into a shallow grave in the middle of nowhere by his men. For most people, this would’ve been the end but this event may as well be a footnote when compared to what you are about to experience. When you died, there was no light or darkness, instead it was as if you had stepped into another room. Despite all that you went through over the course of that night, there is not a single cut, bruise, or crumb of wedding cake on you and you’re now standing on top of a large plateau. The plateau seems to be the only bit of landmass for miles, almost as it had been placed on display in a box made of glass.

TLD: Where in the hell is this, the afterlife? Why is this place so empty?

Suddenly, you feel an indescribable force pulling your body in three separate directions. The strength of this force threatens to tear you apart as you begin to resist out of pure instinct. After a brief struggle, you can resist no longer and in an attempt to avoid another agonizing death, you begin to move towards one of the forces.

Disclaimer: This quest is an exaggerated parody of the TLD drama as well as the individuals involved and is no no way an elaborate attempt at trolling.

You let the force take you and immediately begin to convulse as a chaotic array of colors flash before your eyes. While blinded, an unknown object materializes in your hand and a strange bag attaches itself to your back. After a few seconds, the flashy display fades and the world around you slowly swirls into focus. You are now in on the outskirts of a coastal town surrounded by a moat. The smell of salt clings to the air and the calls of seagulls reverberate throughout the valley.

TLD: I never expected heaven to be so medieval looking. Wait, what is this thing?

You take a look at your hand to find that you are holding on to a small pump action shotgun. You give it a shake and let off a round into the air, causing the seagulls to panic and fly as far away from you as they can. You let out a low whistle as you turn the gun over in your hands.

TLD: Yeah, this definitely isn’t heaven.

You take a look at your immediate surrounds only to find a strange object hidden in the tall grass. You approach the grass shotgun in hand and upon moving the flora out of the way, you are greeted with by a red bike lying on its side.

TLD: Aw yeah, just what the doctor ordered!

You stand the vehicle upright and run your hand along the seat. You then place your gun into the bag and hop on the chopper before shifting gears and making the engine roar.

TLD: Time to hit the road and find out just where the hell I am.

You tear across the valley without a care in the world while the radio plays as loud as it can. The wind rushes past your face and the dirt and grass kick up from behind as you expertly maneuver the chopper through the grass, bushes, and trees. The sense of freedom and excitement you feel grows stronger as you approach your destination. Aside from the old looking town in front of you, nothing about this place seems too out of the ordinary. You’re almost entirely sure that you died but for all you know, your body could’ve been dumped in another country. You grip the handles tighter as you think about how messed up things must be back in New York and more importantly, who’s behind it all.

TLD: When I find out where I am and get back home, I’m gonna make that bastard eat his fucking teeth.

Despite the rushing wind surrounding you, your temperature continues to rise as you reflect on the past. You’re so wrapped up in your anger in fact, that you hardly notice the sounds of screaming and conflict from within the town. You snap back to reality however, when the burning corpse of a large insect suddenly appears under the tires, causing you to swerve and nearly fall off. Thinking quickly, you regain control and grip the handbrake before coming to a stop. You then hop off the bike and walk over to the smoldering mass which is now leaking light purple fluid all over the grass.

TLD: What the fuck?

Before you can think to nudge the insect or look around for any sign of trouble, a small group of bipedal insects with horned heads begin running towards you holding spears in their jagged hands.

You’ve never been afraid of bugs. Not even the sight of hornets or tarantulas could make you flinch, and while you aren’t exactly scared of these new arrivals, they look like they know how to use those spears. Instead of sticking around to see just how good these creatures really are, you make a hasty retreat towards your bike, rev the engine, and drive away as quickly as the bike will allow you to go. It turns out that your sweet set of wheels is much faster than you originally thought, and you’re sent rocketing foward at speeds that even a professional race car driver would call excessive. Within seconds, you find yourself only a few meters away from the thick drawbridge which is currently raised to its full height.

TLD: OH SHIIIIIIITTTTTTT!!!

When you wake up, you find yourself sprawled out in the middle of the street surrounded by several onlookers. The closest being a boy in his mid teens along with an old man with who bears a passing resemblance to him. You then turn to see your bike lying next to you.

Teen: I don’t believe it. He survived.

Old Man: He’ll wish he didn’t when I’m done with him.

You rub the sleep away from your eyes and sit up, putting your hands in front of you defensively.

TLD: Hey, slow down pal. Look, I know I busted up your fancy door, but it was a total accident.

The man’s face becomes red as he glares down at you, shaking with rage.

Old Man: Do you have any idea how many people were taken because of you? With the drawbridge destroyed, we have no way of holding them off!

TLD: I’ve been out ever since I crashed smart guy, I didn’t see anything. Besides, I just got here. How was I supposed to know that there was a raid going on?

Teen: How could you not know what’s going on? The Verkanda clan has been attacking this town for months now!

TLD: So you’re saying those giant bugs form gangs and kidnap people? Alright, so foreign country is out too.

Teen: Where are you from?

Before you answer, you stand up and brush yourself off. You feel as if you fell down the a long flight of stairs but you don’t feel as if anything has been broken, much to your surprise.

TLD: My family came from Russia but they moved to New York sometime in the 60s.

Judging by the looks your being given, no one has any idea of what you’re talking about.

Old Man: I’ve never heard of any of those places on this side of the world. Have you come from across the sea?

TLD: As crazy as it sounds, I think might be from another world. I never saw bugs carrying spears or men walking around in blouses back home.

The old man calms down a bit and mutters something to himself as he gives you a once over. His expression then becomes as mix of both realization and annoyance.

Old Man: Oh, you’re one of those strange travelers. I should have known the moment I saw that red contraption sitting next to you. If you’re looking for answers, I suggest you go to the Crimson Lord. He is one of the many strange beings who came to our lands without any explanation.

TLD: Crimson Lord? Is this guy some kind of wizard or something?

Old Man: He’s far more than that and he may be able to send you back. Go down to the docks and find someone who would be crazy enough to take you to his floating tower.

(1/2)
>>
>>4278764

You turn to your bike which is thankfully unharmed and prepare to leave, but as you give the shattered drawbridge another look, you feel compelled to ask one more question.

TLD: You said that people some were kidnapped, do you know where those bugs are taking them?

The old man’s expression sours once more as you lean on the handlebars in anticipation.

Old Man: I know that look boy, and I think you’ve done more than enough. You foreigners tend to destroy everything you touch. Someone has already hired a party from the Guild to handle this.

TLD: Whatever man, just trying to help.

Without another word, you tear through the cobble streets in search of answers and someone who will be willing to give them out. You always enjoyed doing a bit of detective work anyway. After a short ride, you park your bike in front of a tavern named “The Salt Trough” and step inside. The place looks a bit rustic, but you’ve seen a few medieval-themed bars in your time, so you have an idea of what to expect. You looking around the room for the least grumpiest looking barfly you can find. You eventually settle on a man with golden earrings and a rusty cleaver strapped to his side.

TLD: So how about those raids huh? I swear this town gets more dangerous everyday.

Cleaver: Well its not like we can do anything about it. The damn Guild never sends us anyone who can actually do their job and the guards here are fucking pathetic. If I had some of that fancy armor of theirs, I’d have—

???: You’d still be sitting here drunk off your ass, Tolm.

The new arrival slides next to the two of you and orders himself a drink. He has a bushy dark beard and wears a bandana on his knuckles.

Bandana: No one wants to fight those nasty things, least of all you.

TLD: They can’t be that tough.

Bandana: I saw one of them rip two men in half with its bare hands. There’s a reason why they haven’t been stopped yet.

Tolm: Spoken like a coward.

TLD: Why don’t we just hit the fuckers where they live? We can’t just sit around and let them take what they want! It’s time we got some payback!

Upon hearing your idea, both of the men laugh.

Tolm: (chuckling) Sure, if you want to waste an entire week, go out and chase them down. They only left a few minutes ago.

Bandana: If you run, you might be able to find one of the bodies they dropped.

The pair continue to laugh as you weigh your options.

TLD: Which way were they headed?

Bandana: They always go to the north after a raid, but even if you knew where they were you’d be committing suicide going out there on your own. You’d better just stay here and hope for the best.

TLD: I’ve already died once and I’ll do it again if I have to! Nobody gets away with a kidnapping on my watch!

The two men look at each other dumbfounded as you practically leap off of the bar stool and kick the tavern door open as you leave. When you get outside, you see a crowd of people staring at your chopper with both curiosity and envy.

TLD: Outta the way people, hero coming through!

After a bit of shoving, the crowd clears a path for you, allowing you to hop on your bike and race through the streets yet again.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JJbE7n2GoIE

You’re practically soaring as you drive over the rolling hills of the valley once more. The landscape is just a blur and the only thing you can hear over the rushing wind is the radio playing as loudly as ever. After a while, you see a black swarm flying low just over the horizon with another black mass traveling below it. With a bit of acceleration the scene becomes much clearer as you see the insects carrying a large net filled with an unknown amount of screaming people. Despite the heavy load, it only takes ten of the strange creatures to carry the net while the rest keep watch over them. You also notice that one of them is carrying something in a large burlap sack but you can’t even begin to guess what it contains.

While attempting to position the bike, you simultaneously take aim at one of the insects and fire, missing the first one by several meters. Your second shot however is much more accurate and a large chunk of one if the carriers is blown off from the impact. You continue to fire wildly while keeping the bike on track and eventually you manage to shoot down two more carriers. The load becomes too much for the remaining insects and they begin to slowly descend to the ground as the ones on guard duty begin to close in.

TLD: YOU WANNA BECOME MY NEW SPEED BUMP? BRING IT!

Once the guard bugs get close, you perform a wheelie and shoot one of them directly in the face while smashing another with your front wheel. You then perform a drift and smack one of the bugs on the back of its neck before speeding past the rest of them. Your targets try to fight back, but their spears are no match for your superior range and firepower and you make short work of the perusing insects.

As you look above you, the kidnapped townspeople are being lowered to the ground as the bug with the sack continues to retreat without its comrades.

As the carrier bugs continue their slow and labored descent, you pull up near the group and fire another round which completely bisects your target. In response, the rest of the giant insects lurch forward at the sudden shift in weight, causing them to tumble out of the sky. The landing isn’t pretty and you’re almost certain that someone in that net broke or sprained something in the unceremonious crash. Your immediate concern however, is on the last few carriers which you manage to gun down before they recover. Only one manages to evade and attempt a jab at you only to suddenly wither into ashes right in front of you, prompting the wind to blow the pile away. After all is said and done, the only raider left is the one with the mysterious sack who has now flown well out of range and over the horizon, now free to travel as quickly as possible without having to stay close to the group.

Placing your gun back into the bag strapped to your back, you approach the net as its occupants begin to crawl and claw their way out.

TLD: Is everyone ok? I’m sorry about the rough landing but I only had about three options.

A few of the townsfolk grunt in response but most of the former captives are a bit more grateful and shower you in both praise and thanks. After a while, the crowd breaks up into groups both large and small and begin the long walk back home. A few stick around however, either to rest or ask you questions about your strange clothes, weapon, and method of transportation. Two individuals however, want to speak with you about more important issues and are pushing through the small crowd to get to you. One of them is a blonde female of indiscernible age wearing a strange yet flashy outfit, and the other is a young boy dressed in a green stereotypical wizard robes. Though it wouldn’t hurt to stick around now that the job is done, you still have to find this “Crimson Lord” and something about your chopper has you curious as well.

Once the duo make their way to the front of your small crowd of admirers, they introduce themselves as Elisia and Ernst and ask to speak with you about an urgent matter. You have your own business to attend to however and motion for them to continue as you inspect your bike.

While you enjoy being able to listen to music while riding, something about the situation seems off. If things like track pants, shotguns, and motorcycles are treated as a novelty here, you would think that there shouldn’t be any radio towers around. Despite this, you can somehow get a signal in this fantasy world while driving through the middle of an untamed valley. Though you’d never consider yourself a genius, you’ve always been pretty observant and good when it comes to recognizing patterns and inaccuracies. With a little bit of guesswork, you figure that you may be able to track down the source of the signal and get a better idea of what’s going on here.

On the other side of things, Elisia is talking about a mystical tablet which was stolen by the raiders and presumably in the hands of the only survivor. Though you were paying much more attention to the radio situation, it sounds like that tablet would not only dangerous in the wrong hands, but it may also lead you to whoever is behind these recent attacks on the costal town.

After thinking it over, you decide that chasing radio signals can wait. Those bugs are still out there, and you aren’t letting these kids go after them alone.

TLD: Alright, this tablet sounds important. I’m in.

Elisia: Great! With your help, we might be able to get it back before it gets back to its nest.

TLD: Where’s the fun in that? If we hit ‘em where they live we can put those scum outta business for good.

Ernst: We can’t take them all. Nobody who’s sent to track them down ever comes back. If we can get the tablet back before its delivered we might be able to find a way to stop them.

TLD: Well if they’re so dangerous, why are you two chasing them down?

Elisia: That tablet is our only hope, there’s no way we’d be out here if we didn’t know what it can do. If we took it back, we could probably fight our way through the nest.

Ernst: I don’t want to take any chances. Let’s just hurry so we don’t have to worry about a fight.

TLD: Hop on then, we’ll be on its tail in no time! The baby right here can probably outrun anything.

The three of you squeeze onto the bike as Ernst summons a yellow sphere in his hand. A series of lights begin to flash all around the sphere before stopping.

Ernst: It’s going westward.

You rev the engine once more and switch on the radio.

TLD: Not for long it’s not!

TLD: Hey.

Elisia: Yes?

TLD: I’m not exactly from around here and I’ve got a few questions. Some geezer told me to find a guy called the Crimson Lord and get help from him but I wanna know what I’m getting into.

Elisia thinks over your question for a bit as if she were trying to manifest an answer from nothing. After an uncomfortably long silence, she begins to speak.

Elisia: The Crimson Lord is a malicious sorcerer and a believer in disorder. Looking for him would be a mistake.

TLD: I guess he won’t be willing to help me out of the goodness of his heart then.

Ernst: He once had a heart, but he threw it away for immortality and has been a source of disruption ever since. He’s become drunk with power.

TLD: Maybe I’ll send a few shots his way before heading home. Speaking of home, you guys grew up here right? What do you know about this place?

Elisia: We’ve never gone too far away from Leuton. It’s dangerous to roam around on foot unless you’re an experienced adventurer.

TLD: Ok, so what do you know?

Elisia: There’s a town to the north called Warsot but it’s located in the center of the Swamp of Agony. They say that screams can be heard from there day and night. There’s also the Vibrane Sea to the east. the Crimson Lord lives out on the sea along with a notorious group of pirates.

TLD: (muttering) This place is starting to sound just as dangerous as home.

Elisia: How are things in your homeland?

TLD: Fucked. You see, the corrupt bastard that runs New York has been behind at least a dozen terrorist atta—

Ernst: Um, sir? Its right in front of us!

At the mention of the task at hand, you stop your rant and look up at the sky. The flying raider is quickly appearing in the distance and you’ll be right on its tail within seconds.

Elisia: We have it now! Use your staff and cast your destruction spell!

Ernst: I wouldn’t do that if I were you. This ground is uneven and if you were to miss or lose control, it would know its being followed.

TLD: What?!? I thought you wanted to make this quick!

Ernst: Now isn’t the time!

Elisia: If you both keep shouting it’s going to hear coming us anyway!

TLD: Then let’s make a choice before it does.

>Take the shot

As you pull up behind the insect, you reach behind you and take out your trusty shotgun once more. You then take your hands off the handles in order to get the best shot possible and unleash a slug right through your target’s thorax. The inexplicably large insect releases the sack in shock and goes into free-fall with a thick stream of purple liquid following it as it plummets. Unfortunately for you and your passengers, your well placed shot came at the cost of control, causing the bike to swerve and tumble, throwing all of you off and down the bottom of a hill. Unlike the last crash, you recover relatively quickly and attempt to shake off the pain and dizziness.

TLD: Shit, not again....

With some difficulty you push yourself up off the ground and stand to your feet. The chopper lies in the grass, looking as fresh as ever but your two companions are sprawled out on the ground, out cold.
Without a second thought, you rush over and attempt to shake them out of unconsciousness.

TLD: Come on guys get up! I’m not letting you go out like this!

You briefly stop your questionable methods and look up at where you fell. The drop was a steep one, and though you’ve now walked away from two crashes, your passengers don’t seem to be as durable. Things have just gotten serious.

As you continue to stare at the badly injured children, a sudden realization hits you and you begin to sprint up the hill as quickly as you can.

TLD: (thinking) She said it was their only hope, maybe it has some magic spells or something on it! Either way, I won’t let this be for nothing! Nobody is dying on my watch, not again!

Eventually, the slope becomes so steep that you need to switch from sprinting to climbing, but you continue onwards without any fear or hesitation. Your persistence is soon rewarded and you find yourself back on top of the hill. You then run in the direction where the giant insect crashed and drop to your knees to retrieve the tablet from its container. As soon as you pull out the large stone tablet, a bright flash hits your eyes and threatens to overpower your very being. In a way, it almost reminds you of the force that pulled you here, only far more malicious. Despite the pain and the confusion, you refuse to back down so easily.

TLD: IS THAT ALL YOU GOT, YOU SLAB? THE TRUTH CAN’T STAY BURIED FOREVER!!!

Despite your words, the pain never stops and you can feel your mind splintering as the light continues to pour through the ominous tablet.

As the light continues to pour through, your grip on the tablet tightens, causing small cracks to form along its edges. The tense struggle counties until the light finally fades, and you collapse in the grass. As your mind swirls, everything that is you burns with something that cannot simply be denied or contained. This feeling eclipses all pain, reasoning and caution trading it all for raw, unrelenting power. You sit in the grass motionless for a short amount of time breathing heavily as the clouds go by. Then, without warning the sound of cracking fills the air and plumes of dirt kick up around you.

???: Those were your final warning shots, asshole. Hand it over.

Propping yourself up with your elbows, you find yourself staring at a scrawny, unremarkable man wearing a trench coat and shades along with a headband. In his hands, he holds two large handguns and knives hang all along his belt. You don’t know who this guy is, but that encounter with the tablet hurt, badly. He won’t be getting this so easily.

>Hurt something

———————
Status: Pissed
———————

You toss the stone tablet behind you dismissively and crack your knuckles before marching towards the trench coat wearing gunslinger.

Shades: Are you crazy? I am Shito, the right hand of Shor-Wu! I am the God King!

You continue walking, ignoring the little shit’s bragging and raise your trembling fists, struggling to contain the surge of power threatening to destroy your surroundings.

Shito: Alright, you asked for it. Eat lead you crazy bitch!

Within seconds, dozens of bullets fly out of the two handguns and collide with your skin. They’re a minor annoyance at worst and once you close the gap between you and your attacker, you throw a savage left hook ar his ribs, causing him to wheeze as he clutches his side.

Shito: What the fuck?!?

Your punching bag hardly has time to finish his sentence as you continue to throw shot after shot. A swift combination of jabs, crosses, and the occasional hook send Shito reeling and you finish off your surgical strikes with a brutal roundhouse kick to his shades, shattering them and sending Shito spiraling into the dirt several meters away.

Shito: You son of a bitch! Don’t you know who I am?

Blood flows freely from his mouth and the bridge of his nose as he struggles to stand again. He then disappears, leaving only a black plume of smoke in his place.
You then feel cold steel pressing on the back of your head.

Shito: See you in hell, asshole!

Once again, he fires and once again the shots have little affect other than deafening you due to being in close proximity to the blasts. In retaliation, you grab his arm and flip him over your shoulder, putting him into the ground once more. Shito gasps for air but you silence him with a stomp to his face, knocking him out cold.

TLD: You need to learn when to stay down.

You take your foot off of your badly beaten foe and turn away to look for the tablet. As soon as your back is turned, a bright green glow pulses behind you, and you feel the familiar sensation of bullets smacking you in the back of the head.

Shito: Yeah, you didn’t see that one coming did you! Hey bitch, use the petrification spell now!

Before you can dispatch Shito for a second time, your body begins to slow down, as a numbing sensation makes its way from your legs to your neck. You look for the source of this sensation to see a beautiful raven haired woman pointing a glowing hand in your direction. Aside from the long white dress she wears, there is also a grey circlet adorning her head, glowing with strange energies. Your attention is pulled back to Shito however as he throws an ineffective haymaker at your jaw.

Shito: Not so tough now are you? I’m back to full health and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it! This next one is for my shades!

As the goth hothead winds up for another swing, a terrible roar fills the air and the sky becomes black as dark clouds begin to set in. Shito’s eyes widen in horror as the roars continue and the sound of thick wings beating the air become impossible to ignore. You then feel a much more stronger punch slam into the back of your head and you drop to the ground under its force. As you look up, you see several large demons circling the area like vultures as others descend to the ground. Shito takes a step back and begins to run, only to be blasted by the flaming breath of one of the descending demons.

???: Well look what we have here. The tablet and Shor-Wu’s errand boy all in one place. Malzern will be most pleased.

The squadron of demons surround Shito with wicked grins on their faces as they prepare to unleash more flames onto his vulnerable form. They are stopped however, by a golden beam of energy which turns strikes one of the demons, turning him to ash in an instant. As the other demons turn fearfully to the caster, she fires more rays of holy light at them.

Demon Commander: Don’t just stand here! Somebody deal with her!

Following the orders of his superior, one of the larger demons leaps into action and throws a cloud of darkness over the magic wielding woman and then enters the cloud. A large smack is heard and the woman cries out as she is sent flying out of the cloud and lands face first into the ground, shattering her circlet. As soon as she falls, you feel the effects petrification spell fade and you stand to your feet once more. Though you have now been presented with a golden opportunity, it is becoming harder to think as the power within you flares up in response to the presence of the demons. The though of the injured kids at the bottom of the hill allows you to focus your thoughts if only for a short period of time.

>Save the woman from the demon and get back to the kids

While you’re tempted to go after the tablet again, you doubt you could hold on to it for long with multiple groups are looking for it. You also can’t allow those demons to torture and kill someone who seems to be victim of circumstances. With your priorities in order, you take a running start and leap over the group of demons cheering on their companion as he proceeds to stomp on the motionless woman’s head. The demon is then knocked to the ground as your knees slam into his back, much to the surprise of everyone.

Demon Commander: Will you fools do your jobs and destroy these interlopers?!?

Three more demons break from the group and advance towards you, only to take a step back as you pepper them with buckshot. You then shoot the demon underneath you and grab the battered woman by the waist. You fire at the crowd once more to buy yourself some time and take another big leap, this time over the side of the hill. As you descend down the hill, you can hear the leader barking orders

Demon Commander: Secure the tablet and teach Shor-Wu’s dog a lesson! I’m going after him!

By the time you make it halfway to the bottom, the Demon Commander is already making his way down the hill at a breakneck pace and begins to launch streams of fire at you. Despite your best efforts, one of his attacks catches your ankle, throwing off your next jump off and causing both you and the raven haired woman to go tumbling through the air. The swift fiend is quick to capitalize on this new development and brings the two of you down with an even swifter axe kick. Undeterred, you scramble back to your feet, and place the woman behind you. As the demon descends, you slip into a defensive stance and brandish your shotgun.

Demon Commander: No mere mortal escapes me, especially one who follows the orders of a coward like Shor-Wu. I will enjoy reducing your body to bloody scraps before I devour your bones.

TLD: Go for it.

The imposing demon smirks as he covers the area in a cloud of darkness and mutters an incantation, summoning a flaming sword from nothingness. The swords then begin to multiply and advance towards you.

Keeping the demon’s focus on yourself is your number one priority and as you fire shots into the darkness, you blindly duck and dive around in an attempt to avoid all of the swipes aimed at you. Occasionally, one catches you or your clothing, but you continue to run and fight through the chaos. After a few minutes of this, the lack of visibility and the swarm of swords get the better of you and you receive a deep cut that runs from your shoulder to your chest. Your demonic foe doesn’t relent however and sends a wave of fire in your direction, forcing you to dodge yet again. As you drop to the ground, the feeling of rage courses through your veins and what was once cold fury morphs into boundless aggression.

Demon Commander: Your durability is impressive, but that seems to be your only saving grace. I thought that Shor-Wu would have more challenging fodder at his disposal.

TLD: WHO THE FUCK IS SHOR-WU?!?

Demon Commander: If you planned on forsaking your master, you should have done so before this day. No trickery or pleading will save you from the slow and agonizing death that I will deliver. With both you and that foolish whelp out of the way, he’ll be forced to come out of hiding and face Malzern if he ever wants to retrieve the tablet.

TLD: I’m not with this Shor-Wu guy or that emo douchebag! I just want to go home and make things right!

Demon Commander: There is no home for you child, only the empty embrace of death. Your attempts at deceit are futile. Now, witness the end of your master’s empire.

TLD: If you won’t listen to me, maybe you’ll listen to THIS!

You take aim at the direction of the demon’s voice and fire once more into the darkness.

Demon Commander: Fool! Your weapon cannot harm me! You search for me and yet you will never find me, for I am the very darkness that surrounds you!

A pair of sinister burning eyes appear in the darkness as an intense heat rises from beneath the earth and vapor begins to seep through cracks in the ground below. Before the fiend can finish his spell however, a golden light pierces through the darkness, causing the eyes to take on a pained expression. As you look behind you, you see that the woman has recovered and is driving back the demon with her magic.

Mage: Begone you foul abomination!

The light continues to spread, rapidly carving away at the darkness and revealing the demon’s form. The demon utters an agonized cry in a language that you can’t understand and spews black smoke from his mouth. Using this opening to your advantage, you launch several rounds into the fiend’s chest and head within seconds, forcing him to take to the skies to escape the onslaught.

>>4292868
TLD: This thing can’t hurt you huh? You’re looking pretty fucked up to me!

As the demon flies into the air, a trail of ashes follow him, and sections of his body begin to crumble. The fury in his eyes almost match your own as he points a trembling finger in your direction.

Demon Commander: NOW YOU DIE!

The demon summons a black sphere in his hands which begins to grow at an alarming rate as sharp winds converge on the destructive orb. Before he can throw it however, an obnoxious noise and a pungent odor draws his attention back to the top of the hill.

Demon Commander: NO! NOOO! YOU WILL NOT UNDERMINE ME AGAIN!

The demon throws the orb at the hill and follows after it as the sounds of insane laugher can be heard on the hill along with the pained screams of other demons. Seconds later, a massive explosion eclipses the hill causing large chunks of stone and dirt to go flying. You are almost crushed by the falling debris but they are stopped by a transparent barrier with covers both you and its caster. Once the dust settles, the only thing left is a deep smoldering crater and all signs of obvious trouble have disappeared. As you drop to your knees, the power that has been fueling you dissipates, leaving only confusion and weariness.
>>
>>4292874
TLD: (panting) What the fuck was that all about?

The mage lowers her arms and lets out a sigh of both relief and exhaustion as she sits down in the grass.

Mage: The danger is gone now. There’s no need for concern.

You give the crater a second look and give the sky a quick once over.

TLD: I’d like to think that all of those freaks died in that explosion, but it’s never that easy.

Mage: You are correct. Both Deraug and Shor-Wu’s left hand are still alive. Thankfully, I can’t sense that swine Shito anywhere.

TLD: I’m guessing Dermaug is the demon that was kicking my ass and that laughing psycho who he freaked out over is the left hand?

Mage: Once again, you are correct.

TLD: And that would make you?

Mage: I am Miya, though I haven’t been called that in a long time.

TLD: Yeah, your boss doesn’t sound like the kind of guy who remembers names.

Miya: If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have remembered it myself. I can hardly remember anything from when I wasn’t under his heel.

TLD: I don’t mean to sound like a jerk here, but I don’t have time to swap backstories right now and—Oh shit the kids!

Limping as fast as you possibly can, you make your way around the crater with Miya following close behind. To your relief the pair are still where you left them. Aside from the fresh layer of dirt that covers them, the explosion doesn’t appear to have reached them. Miya gazes upon their unconscious forms with a look of concern.

Miya: Are these your children?

TLD: No, I saved them from some giant bugs that kidnapped them and a bunch of other people. They were looking for that tablet too and I tried to help them get it back, but all I ended up doing was getting them hurt. They’re lucky to be alive.

Miya: That may be true, but as a result of your actions, the tablet remains out of evil’s clutches. You have also saved my life and for that I am in your debt.

TLD: I’m running on fumes and I’ve got a giant gash in my chest. Could you start by helping me out with that?

Miya: Yes, of course.

Miya’s hands glow bright green and she casts a green light over you, mending your flesh and bones. This is the healthiest you’ve felt in a long time and as you roll your shoulder, you notice that the injuries that you received throughout your years of bar fights have also vanished.

TLD: Thanks for fixing me up. Could you also help these two? I probably should’ve asked earlier.

Miya turns to your companions and casts the wave of healing over them as well, prompting the two to rise up and take in their surroundings. Once they see the large crater behind then, they nearly jump in surprise.

Elisia and Ernst: WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!?

TLD: It was no big deal, just some more assholes looking to swipe the tablet for themselves. The important thing is that none of us got blasted to kingdom come.

Ersnt: Judging by the mess, I assume that someone else got to it.

TLD: A thank you would be nice.

Elisia: Where is it now?

TLD: I have no idea. That explosion probably sent it flying if it didn’t destroy it. Yo Ersnt, you can track that thing down right?

Ersnt: I was tracking the Certidae that was holding it. As far as I know, the tablet can’t be detected through any sort of magical means.

TLD: Well someone knows how to do it, or this place wouldn’t have been turned into a warzone. How did you and your ex-boss find it Miya?

Miya: Only Shor-Wu should be able to detect it. It was he who told us to come here and meet the Verkanda clan.

Both Elisia and Ernst give Miya a look of disbelief.

Elisia: But that would mean that he knew about the raid.

Miya: Yes, he was the one who ordered it as well as the ones that came before it.

Ernst: Who are you exactly?

Miya: I was once one of his more higher ranking pawns, but thanks to your friend, my days of subservience to him is over. He is a twisted man and neither his words nor deeds can be trusted.

TLD: Well that’s another scumbag added to the list. You wanna help us dish out some stern justice?

Miya: Your bravery is admirable, but even the demons are nothing in the face of his might. I must leave now before he sets his gaze upon me.

TLD: I get why you’re scared of him, but if we let him gets what he wants, no one will be safe.

Miya: If you retrieve the tablet and learn its secrets, I will aid you once more. May we meet again.

Once she finishes her farewell, Miya wraps herself in light and vanishes, leaving nothing but golden sparkles in her wake.

Elisia: What do we do now? We have no way of finding the tablet and now we know that Shor-Wu is looking for it as well as the demons.

TLD: I’m just as lost as you are, kid. I know one thing though, I’m starving. Let’s head back to the town, get some food, and think things over.

On the way back to Leuton, you fill the group in on what happened after you crashed the bike and they answer any questions you may have. Based on what they told you, Shor-Wu is one of the three High Senators of Mytholis and the most mysterious of them all. For decades, he has been waging war against both the demons to the south and the giants in the north in pursuit of a rather vague goal. Given your history with corrupt politicians, and what you’ve seen so far, he sounds like scum. Among the people however, he is respected and even revered in some circles. Neither Elisia nor Ernst have any information on any of the so called “Hands of Shor-Wu” and they know very little about the demons.

After a bit of riding, you finally arrive back in Leuton and discuss your next move over a meal at a small tavern. The conversation quickly shifts to a more casual one after you order a few too many drinks and little headway is made. As you continue to joke around and share stories with these kids, the more unsure you are with getting them involved in this mess. You still have no idea how to get home or whether leaving is even the right thing to do. Things are just as chaotic and violent here as they are back home and while Elisia and Ernst may look the part, they’re inexperienced and their knowledge of this world is only a league or two above your own.

TLD: (slurring) Some of you guys are alright. Don’t come to the tavern tomorrow.

By now, the two have gotten used to your drunken ramblings and nonsensical statements so this only elicits mild confusion from them.

Elisia: What?

TLD: When I was a kid, just getting ahold of a switchblade was a big deal. Here, you’re running around with a sword and your brother’s shooting fireballs and shit!

Ersnt: I fail to see your point.

TLD: You kids better go to school or something. I used to run around picking fights and getting into trouble, and now I’m just a delivery guy.

Ernst: There’s no shame in being a courier.

TLD: Have you seen my bank account? It’s pretty fucking low.....Man, I need another drink.

Elisia: What are you trying to say?

You down the last of your drink and attempt to sound as reasonable as possible.

TLD: This is dangerous stuff and I wouldn’t be a good hero if I let you come along. Just lay low and leave the hard work to me.

Elisia: You might have saved us earlier, but that doesn’t make you a legendary warrior. It’s too dangerous for you to do this alone.

Ernst: You already told us about what happened with the demons. If you were facing them by yourself, you would’ve been killed.

TLD: I could take that punk any day! All he was doing was running and hiding! Besides, you kids got kidnapped by bugs. If we ran into those demons again they’d rip your heads off.

Elisia: We were caught off guard! You know that you need our help!

TLD: Can’t you think of another way to help me that won’t get you killed?

The two siblings look at each other for a moment as if they were holding a silent conversation. While this goes on, you busy yourself with stacking the mugs that practically cover your side of the table. By the time your quaint tower is halfway finished, Elisia speaks up once more.

Elisia: How about a small wager?

TLD: I’m not getting into a drinking contest with you....But I’d totally win if I did.

Elisia: (rolling her eyes) That’s not what I meant. We want a chance to prove ourselves.

TLD: And how are you gonna do that?

Ernst: There’s a small fort near the beach where those pirates store their treasure. We could help you take them down and show you what we’re capable of.

TLD: What.....you mean right now? I probably can’t even walk straight.

Elisia: That way you won’t be doing all of the work. If we can do this, then we can travel with you. How does that sound?

You lean back in your chair while thinking it over and by some miracle, avoid falling over. You’re tempted to go down to the beach to beat on some thugs and take their loot but at the same time, you’ll be doing the exact opposite of keeping these kids out of harms way.

Ernst and Elisia are weaklings, beating up some pirates won't prove anything. They can go on rookie quests for a few years before they can help.

TLD: (muttering) У cтpaхa глaзa вeлики.

Ernst: I think we made a mistake. He’s making even less sense now.

With your mind made up, you wipe your mouth with your arm and slam your palms on the table.

TLD: LET’S DO IT!

Before either of the siblings can process your outburst, you leap from your chair stumbling out of the door and into the night, ready to quench your thirst for justice. Within a few minutes, the two finally find you attempting to start your chopper.

Ernst: This was certainly a mistake.

Despite several close calls, you somehow manage to get to the beach without getting anyone killed, and the drive to the beach is a relatively serene one. After years of being in the same buildings, streets, and subway stations, the ability to take in the more relaxed and natural atmosphere is a breath of fresh air. Your sightseeing comes to an end however, when you notice a campfire in the distance and stop the bike.

TLD: Is that them?

Elisia: (pointing) Look over there.

You squint further into the darkness to find a medium sized ship floating not too far from the beach. It seems that the pirates have had a busy day judging by the amount of rowboats heading from the ship to the illuminated section of the beach.

Ernst: I didn’t expect there to be so many of them.

Elisia: It was our plan, we can’t turn back now.

Ernst: We’ll need to come up with an actual strategy if were going up against the entire crew.

Elisia: Alright, then I’ll go ahead.

Ernst: Now isn’t the time to show off Elisia.

Elisia: If you wanted to lead the charge, you should have said so.

Ernst: You know that’s not what I meant.

As the two continue to bicker, you lean forward on the handles and continue peering at the small fort. From the looks of things, there are no less than fifty pirates in the area but you can’t be sure and you have no idea if anyone is stationed inside of the fort.

Ernst: We need to dispatch of the ones along the outer perimeter first.

Elisia: Anyone can hide behind a rock and pick off stragglers! We came here to fight!

You’re beginning to feel as if you’ve been through this before.

In your current state, you can’t be bothered to be the mediator once again. Instead, you simply rev the engine and speed forward, throwing caution to the wind and stealth out of the equation. You blaze across the entire beach within seconds and send several shells in the direction of the pirates situated by the campfire. Due to your method of approach, a few of them are ready for you and return fire with matchlock pistols.

Pirate #1: Shoot him down, you dogs!

Pirate #12: He won’t get far!

The shots continue as you zig and zag along the beach, narrowly avoiding the projectiles. Occasionally, both you and the bike are struck, but the projectiles seem to have little effect and bounce off harmlessly. This gives you the impression that the chopper must be granting you some sort of protection while you’re moving. Once the last few men fire their primitive weapons, the crew abandons them and pull out their swords while approaching you. Once more, you refuse to give them any easy target and shoot at the thugs while driving circles around them.

TLD: YOU’RE MAKING THIS TOO EASY FOR ME BOYS! WHERE’S YOUR HUSTLE?

As you continue turning the group on the beach to mincemeat, more pirates come from out of the fort and begin shooting at you from behind. A few of the shots hit more crew members, but two shots manage to make their way into your back and shoulder, causing you to swerve in shock. Much like before, the projectiles aren’t nearly as lethal as they should be, but they’ve broken the skin nonetheless. You stop the bike and turn your attention towards the incoming pirates as several more begin to exit the fort. As more shots ring out, you take cover behind your vehicle and exchange fire with the thugs, slowly whittling down their numbers.

TLD: IS THAT ALL YOU GOT? I CAN DO THIS ALL NIGHT!

As soon as you utter these words, the sound of a loud explosion comes from the ship behind you and a large cannonball lands next to you seconds later, kicking up a plume of sand as it crashes into the beach.

TLD: Aw shit.

You jump on the chopper and speed off in order to dodge the next cannonball and the others that come soon afterwards. The remaining pirates on the beach chase after you with their swords once more as you make another wide turn. Before you can recklessly charge at them again however, a massive gust of wind blows past you and Elisia soon charges past you with her sword at the ready. She leaps into the crowd with a wild spinning slash cutting down a few of their numbers. She then proceeds to duel with several of the pirates, using their numbers against them as she maneuvers around their strikes and returns them.

TLD: Hey! Save some for me!

You hop off your bike, shotgun in hand and proceed to blow away your own group of thugs at close range. The few who manage to get in melee range with you receive a brutal series of kicks and strikes as you use your weapon like a makeshift club. From the sea, more pirates begin to approach in their rowboats, firing upon the both of you with little regard for the concept of friendly fire and behind them, the ship continues its bombardment of the beach. Under normal circumstances, you would’ve been struck down by the bullets or obliterated by the cannon fire. Thankfully, the same wind that propelled Elisia forward is now circling around the battlefield, throwing the projectiles off course and catching a few pirates in its clutches as well.

Elisia: ERNST! SINK THE BOATS!

Though you’re too busy fighting to properly view all of the action, several loud crashes and the sounds of panicked men tell you that Ernst is currently focused on the rowboats. Though things are looking fine now, those cannons could still prove to be a problem. Now is the time to think quickly and determine which front to focus on.

>Attack the ship

As another cannonball crashes into the sand, you deliver a front kick to an incoming pirate before batting another away. You then gun down two of men who are attacking Elisia and get her attention.

TLD: It’s getting too dangerous out here! You stay here, I’m gonna go kick some ass on that ship and stop those cannons!

Elisia simply nods as she clashes with another thug and you turn your attention to Ernst who is holding off the approaching rowboats. As the men continue firing, the young mage brings down large cubes of magic from above to sink the small boats and provide cover for himself. Watching him work gives you a crazy idea and once again, you get on the chopper and pull up alongside him.

TLD: Get some more of those blocks ready, I’m going in!

Ernst: How? The men on the rowboats will shoot you before you get there!

TLD: Just give me a runway with a ramp and this baby will do the rest!

Ersnt clearly doesn’t believe that this will work, but he is quick to act and within seconds, the makeshift runway is made. You give the boy a quick salute and rocket towards the ramp, kicking up a large amount of sand as you leave the beach and begin speeding towards the ramp. You don’t even have enough time to process the shift in terrain before your wheels make contact with the ramp, sending you into the air and over the rowboats.

TLD: WOOOOHHHHHOOOOO!!!

The pirates sailing towards the shore only get a brief glimpse of you as you sail over their heads onto the ship’s deck, much to the amazement of the small numbers of pirates on board. Their shock doesn’t last for long however, and they all reach for their swords with murderous intent in their eyes.

TLD: Avast mateys! Cap’n Travis is here to wreck your shit!

>Fight everyone on the ship and take it for yourself

Despite being outnumbered, you clearly outclass this unorganized group of amateurs and anyone who gets in your way is either shot or badly beaten. As you continue to dominate the crew, you find it a bit odd that the captain hasn’t come out to face you but once you take over the ship, it hardly matters. You throw the bodies of the dead or unconscious crew members overboard and begin looking around your new ship. You don’t find anything particularly interesting aside from some weapons and pirate garb below deck, but you assume that most of the treasure is back on the shore. After some more searching, you hear the sounds of footsteps above deck and you quickly come up to investigate. To your relief, your new visitors are only Ernst and a somewhat bloodied Elisia.

Ernst: Impressive.

TLD: Yeah, yeah, I’m great. Don’t ask me for an autograph.

Elisia: (panting) If you keep that up, you won’t get too many compliments from him.

TLD: What happened to you?

Elisia: Don’t worry about me. I took care of everything on the beach.

Ernst: With my assistance of course.

Elisia: I took care of the important work on the beach.

TLD: The most important thing here is that we’ve got our own ship now! How cool is that?

Ernst: Do you know how to sail?

TLD: Thanks for ruining the moment.

Elisia: We could find someone to sail for us. There are always people looking for work at the docks even if they don’t have their own ships.

TLD: Sounds like a plan! Good work today guys. I’ll get one of the last rowboats and grab as much loot as I can carry.

Ernst: Does this mean we can join you?

TLD: I was kinda worried about you getting hurt at first, but you kids pulled your weight. You’re in.

Elisia: Great! Let’s get to work!

TLD: That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t leave the heavy lifting to me. Get some rest and we’ll be back in action tomorrow.

Ernst: Where are we going? We still have no way of tracking the tablet or a method for combating the demons.

TLD: You’re a real downer, you know that?

TLD: Alright, we’ll put a hold on the whole saving the world thing and focus on getting some information first. After I get the treasure from the fort, I’ll see what’s going on with my bike.

Ernst: It’s a start, if nothing else. I’ll see you in the morning.

Ernst then stretches his arms and goes below deck for the night. Elisia goes to follow him but stops before she gets to the stairs.

Elisia: Make sure you save all of the swords and purple gems for me, madman.

TLD: Will do. Sleep tight hotshot.

With Ernst heading off to bed, you decide to swim back to the beach and recover whatever you can from the fort. It takes some time, but you eventually get to the shore and take a quick rest in the sand. As you lie down in the sand, it finally dawns on you that there are numerous bodies littering the beach, making your respite somewhat eerie and uncomfortable. If you didn’t know any better, you would have assumed that a terrifying monster had just been on a rampage through here. Self-reflection was never your best strong suit however, and you are quick to get back up and make your way to the pirate’s fort. Inside, there are more swords, knives, and guns along with a few cannons. There are also a respectable amount of chests and sacks containing gold coins, jewelry, and a few maps.

TLD: Jackpot.

After you take the very best the fort has to offer to the shore, you begin the long, boring, and exhausting process of transporting the chests and bags to the ship. This was never meant to be a one man job, and this is made evident as the sun begins to peak over the horizon.

TLD: (yawning) Man, what a day. Once minute I’m dying in the back of a van and the next, I’m fighting giant bugs and pirates in some fantasy land . Maybe this was just some dream and I’ll wale up back in New York where things are still going to shit.

Your eyelids begin to droop and you lie your head up against a bag of gold coins. The sun casts its bright rays along the water as the seagulls call out in the distance. With a small smile on your face, you let out another yawn and allow yourself to relax for the first time in months. You may have just exchanged one impossible crusade for another, but one thing is for certain.

TLD: Dream or not, Governor Wharton’s gonna pay. No matter how many demons, psychos, and assholes I have to go through to get to him. That bastard’s gonna regret the day he ever harmed the innocent on my watch.

With justice, vengeance, and hope on your mind, you finally drift off to sleep in this bizarre and chaotic land.
