With the return of peace to the realm, Onizar the Gentle has vastly expanded the humble road system, truly connecting the kingdom for the first time.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Several years have passed and not much has changed in the mean time. Honey is slowly gaining in popularity among commoners as the "Bee-Man" expands his estate. Your trade caravans have returned successfully, albeit with some losses, bringing you a great deal of fortune in brontsay, though not nearly as much as you had hoped for. Instead, they returned with several most curious artifacts: short swords of foreign origin. They are far more decorated than the ones you have, though their design indicates a wholly different way of warfare. Your merchants have no idea about the actual purpose of these weapons, but they tell you that they are of a material called Sitroz. You've never heard of such a thing before, it very much intrigues you and you start to wonder where to find more of it.
Moving on from that however, you congratulate the caravans on a job well-done, and pay them decently.
This foreign material now only intrigues you however, it also intrigues the great shaman of the temple cult. Hailing the existence of this metal as an omen sent by the gods, a great many people set out to acquire more of it. You have no idea whether we even have this kind of material in our realm, but you won't interrupt their search, in fact you join in despite your skepticism, it will provide an excellent opportunity to further influence the cult, which seems to only gain more traction as time goes on.

The temple cult, does turn up some interesting ore samples, according to your wife, who doubles as your spy in the cult, they don't quite look like this Sitroz stuff, but they come pretty close, perhaps if you smelt it together with something else, much like how you create brontsay, it will yield Sitroz.
For the moment however, you focus on more important matters, the defense of the realm. Though far from paranoid, the vulnerability of your kingdom worries you immensely, earthwalls and trenches work, as do the odd palisades here and there, but they don't quite cut it.
You need something more solid. The idea of stone has crossed your mind before, but you simply have too little of it available to go and start building anything of note. There is of course the possibility to simply expand the realm to a place where we can set up a quarry, but why bother when we have a solution?
Back in the days of Aitlaz, arize was invented to combat our stone problem. Though production is still tedious, you are convinced that we have the time and funds to build a wall of solid arize, around every major settlement.
It will be a gargantuan task, but your people are up for it. It'll just take some time.

While arize is produced and stored en masse across the realm for your building project, people can't help but notice the ever-increasing presence of your warriors. Though most people agree that having the warriors around is a good thing, they are reluctant to support them. In the century that we have spent here, we have always been besieged by morcantaz one way or another, and people have already gotten tired of perpetual fighting. They will gladly aid us in defending the realm, but conquering with these people might prove a challenge for future Askkizo.
You won't bother changing your people's mind on this either, you see it as they do. To ensure peace, we must be so strong as to discourage all would-be conquerors.

This development is only furthered by the increasing influence of the Temple cult, who not only hails your grandfather as their central God, but also managed to convert most of your realm to their belief.
Currently they're trying to convert the last remaining non-believers, down in the southern frontier.
Much like how your people have struck a balance between war and peace
so too did the Temple cult strike a balance between the ancestors and the morcantaz gods. For good or ill, the cult has become an integral part of society and it may just be time to acknowledge them as the religion of your people.

As more people joined the cult, it inevitably attracted artists, who took it upon themselves to cast the gods in the most favorable light possible. To do so, they decided to depict them as humanly as possible, while emphasizing their divinity. This practice has given birth to Dyangburaz - Godheads.
These (by our standards) almost lifelike depictions of a god's face start to crop up all around the realm, decorating shrines, houses and even wells, exuding an aura of respect and inspiring awe in the faithful. Dyangburaz have become so popular in fact, that your own daughter came home with such a thing painted onto her clothes one day.
It's a nice distraction, you give it that, but you have the defense of the realm on your mind right now. With enough arize finally having arrived in the capital, you try to put it to use immediately and begin the construction of your first experimental city wall.
As Aitlazaterp is already plenty secured by it's geography, you decide to test your ideas out on Zoribalthari first.

Word reaches you from your wife that the great shaman is recruiting shamans for the temple now, teaching them the ways of the gods so that they can spread their faith more effectively. In order to do so, the great shaman has made it clear, that stories must be retold exactly as he has taught them, lest their significance gets lost to time. The faithful of temple, ever loyal to the word of the great shaman, heed this decree and come up with witty ways to remember the key points of their stories.

Meanwhile you are building the first proper wall, struggling with the logistics of it and trying to figure out how to make it defensible and not a death trap for the city itself. It takes some long and serious deliberation with your workers and wisemen to finally reach a consensus on what to do. Many tiny models were built and "attacked" in a mock siege, until a certain thickness was reached in which throwing rocks at the model, no longer broke it. You doubt there's any way for a boulder to be hurled at your walls, nothing is that strong. The kind of giant that could do unto our walls as we did unto the models, wouldn't have to bother with it in the first place, he could just step in and trample the city. This is a possibility you simply cannot prepare for, there is no defense against giants.
The question of scaling the model up to city size is now the real problem. We have no idea how to approach this, our math is simply not advanced enough for it. We could just eyeball it, it's not like the wall actually NEEDS to withstand a boulder. Maybe we can try to find a makeshift solution for this problem to resume the project as fast as possible. Or we could put it on hold entirely until someone figures out the mathematics behind it.

You and your construction team figure, that if we don't know how to upscale the models, that we should simply make bigger models and mess around. Obviously we don't have a giant to throw a boulder at the life-size model, but we have men. Using a group of strong men who simply hurl themselves at the wall from a run, yields interesting results.
Most simply hurt themselves, but after organizing these ruffians into a column of people, who all hurl themselves at the model at the same time, suddenly we have progress.
The model wavers, though there's no damage to it. Getting some more people to join, we now have a group of nearly 200 people, blindly throwing themselves at the model. Before anything else can happen to it, the model simply falls over and the men with it.
A good laugh is shared among those who helped and you figure, if the new model can withstand an army of people just tossing themselves at it, that the full wall will surely last forever.
With that, construction of the zoribalthari town wall truly begins.
In a matter of weeks the wall is raised and ready. You organize another army of people to throw themselves at the wall, just for good measure.
Dozens of men return home with severe shoulder injuries. You compensate them for their eager contribution and turn your attention to other matters while a new pile of arize is being baked.

To celebrate the completion of the first ever wall, you organize a great get together for the entire town and your workers. Bringing in large amounts of wine, honey and milk from across the kingdom, everyone is invited to marvel at the newest architectural marvel you have built.
It is an opulent feast, the likes of which are only held for coronations. This should really hammer home the importance of this achievement, the wall may well be a new king unto itself. The townspeople are hailing it as the beginning of a new era. The workers revel in the praise of their effort. It was a fun time for everyone involved, we even managed to do it without a single drunken brawl. Some question whether it even was a real celebration because of that. While you certainly see the point, you think it wrong to let yourself go like that and you're happy that no one did it.
Due to the many visitors, the town made a nice little profit off of the festivities as well.
The organization as well as the celebration itself, took a combined week, enough for the potters of the realm to produce more arize.
You are moving on to Izagorininian, a town already protected by a wall, albeit an earthen one. Due to it's importance as the center of the kingdom's core territory, Izagorininian is the most heavily fortified town we have and it is about to become even more so.
The issue that presents itself now, is where do we put the wall? Should we remove the earthwall and put the new one in it's place? maybe expand the town by building the new wall around the old fortifications? we can also just put the new wall atop the old one, that'll certainly look imposing. Alternatively, we could rethink the town's defenses entirely.

You think it's most efficient if we simply expand the town beyond current fortifications, it'll grow on it's own eventually so to have room to spare between the settlement and the wall, would certainly help encourage further growth.
With that, you copy the design of the first wall in terms of dimensions and build away.
As you build, a large crescent shape emerges around Izagorininian and along with it, a new problem. The town sits adjacent to a river, of course it provides a natural barrier on north-east side of the town, but it also a gaping hole in it's defenses, should an enemy cross the river somehow.
You're contemplating what to do here
should you extend the walls across the river, put a wall along the river - cutting it off from the town, or simply leave it open and see what happens?
either way, something has to be done about this.

Not knowing how to exactly go about this, you think it's best to simply enclose the town and cut it off from the river, it's not like they don't have wells. This might be an inconvenience to the people, but it is for the sake of their own safety. As the wall goes up on the river side, some people voice their protest, but you calm them down and explain the situation, they're not happy, but they understand. Confident that everyone else shares this amount of common sense, you finish the wall and hold a small celebration before moving on to Morcantari, where your visit your extended family and take care of state affairs while waiting for the new arize shipment to arrive.

Wait a minute, I thought exclude river meant the wall DIDN'T cut off the river, that it left the river as a natural defence of its own. That's the whole reason I voted for it in the first place, as I explained (Though now in retrospect I see how my explanation could've been misconstrued)

Was I mistaken then? Did exclude river actually mean to wall it off, and was include river the option that left it open as its own defence then?

While you're here, you take the time to call up your entire branch family and have an extensive talk with them, over some hot soup and sweet wine.
A lot more people than you expected showed up. It seems that your branch family was quite busy. Counting 19 cousins, 3 uncles and 2 aunts, you're not sure whether you'll be able to even remember them all, but you'll try.
You're exchanging life stories, your joys and fears, your smiles and tears. Aunt Zoriglasta was especially moved by Cousin() Roudoror's heartbreaking divorce. You had to oversee a couple divorces yourself, but this poor man, you'd almost call him a boy, suffered the worst one you've ever heard of. After many tears and failed consolations, you pick up Roudoror (literally) and give him a good old hug. It looks a bit funny, because you're considerably shorter than him, but after setting him back down you tell him that life must go on, of course you're not the first to say that, even tonight, but the way you said it sparks something in him that calms him down.
You end the gathering on a high-note, as you sit down with Roudoror and have a bowl of soup together, before everyone disperses back to their homes.
You really feel like you've bonded with your family today and reconciled with their traitorous origin.
The remaining few days you get to know some of your other family members a little better, though it was not nearly as effective as the big get-together. Regardless, the arize has finally arrived after a week and construction begins.
There's no funny business with morcantari's geography. It's pretty flat, surrounded by forest.
It does have some older defenses, a short earthwall with an empty trench around it.
You remember this well, this is where you fought your first real battle. Morcantari is too small to possibly include this however, you gotta get rid of it first, or just build the wall around it. Maybe you could integrate the trench somehow?

Despite your reservations, your workers convince you that the best course of action, is to simply include the existing defenses in the wall, greatly expanding morcantari. The walls are quickly erected around the town in merely a week. This is considered an impressive feat of logistics by your contemporaries.
With morcantari now almost twice the size it originally had, you move on to ongiza, the last major settlement in need of a wall.
Self-sufficient as always, the ongizaz have already assembled parts of a wall around their town upon your arrival. You much enjoy their initiative and help them construct the remainder of the wall. Though you're sure theirs is of slightly inferior quality than your others, this is good enough.
With the wall project completed, it is time to celebrate.
