/qst/ - Quests

You are Travis L. Durakov, AKA TLD. After years of taking the law into your own hands by fighting evil and corruption wherever you found it, you had finally bit off more than you could chew. Your assassination attempt on Governor Wharton, the economic backbone of a terrorist cell, had turned into an explosive shootout and eventually you were brought down. You were interrogated and tortured for the rest of the day until the blood loss took you under and you were left for dead in the middle of nowhere. Now, you find yourself in a new world filled mystery, wonder, and more chaos than you’ve ever seen in your life. Though your new crusade looks to be the most perilous of all, you are going to see this one through even if it kills you, again.

Disclaimer: This quest is an exaggerated parody of the TLD drama as well as the individuals involved and is no no way an elaborate attempt at trolling.

You’re once again on the road with your new companions, tearing through the sandy beach as you make your way back to Leuton. When you woke up this morning, you learned two things, the first thing being that your new ship belonged to a large crime syndicate who would cause you a lot of problems if they found out about what happened last night. The second thing you realize is that you had been shot and you’re given a reminder of that fact every time your shoulder so much as twitches. With this knowledge in hand, you decide to go into town to find a healer and some people who could move your ship to more discrete location. As you continue to drive, you busy yourself with tracking the mysterious radio waves you discovered earlier.

Ernst: Travis, I’ve been meaning to ask you something.

TLD: Fire away.

Ernst: What exactly are you hoping to find by tracking these “radio waves”?

TLD: No clue. All I know is that there shouldn’t be any radio towers here. If we can find it, we might find some people who could help us out or at least explain what’s going on here.

Elisia: Do you think they came from your world as well?

TLD: That’s what I figured, but who knows? There could be some hidden city of aliens hiding out here or something.

Elisia: Aliens?

TLD: Yeah, aliens.

Ernst: We can handle this matter at another time. The first thing we need to do is decide where we’re going.

As soon as the young mage finishes his statement, you arrive back in Leuton proper with a crowd of onlookers staring at you and your companions. The town seems to have recovered from yesterday’s raid and the people are walking about to their various professions as if it were simply another day.

TLD: Well I need someone to deal with these bullets asap. My shoulder is fucking killing me.

Ernst: You’ll have even more holes in you if the ship isn’t hidden by nightfall, assuming we have that much time to begin with.

Elisia: We could go to the docks and hire a crew while you go to the healer.

TLD: Alright, you guys get this boat thing taken care of.

Ernst: Where will we meet after you finish?

TLD: I’ll catch up with you. Just stay at the docks and I’ll be right over.

You hand Ernst a decent sum of money and the siblings get off the bike. Once Elisia gives you directions to the healer, you give them a small wave and drive off to deal with your wounds. On your way, you pass by a few people who cheer as they see you driving through the streets. It appears that the tales of your heroics have spread throughout the town and have garnered you some fans, something you certainly never had when you were taking down crooks in the old life. You have little time to reminisce however, as you get to your destination within moments.

The healer’s building is a small stone structure with no windows and a simple wooden sign hanging over the doorway. The sign has markings on it which you’ve never seen before, but you can practically feel the magical energy emanating from inside the dark building. With a shrug, you dismount from the bike and step inside. Once you enter, you see a faint green light coming from the door on the other end of the room and approach the wooden door, giving it a few knocks.

TLD: Hello? Is there anyone back here?

You stand outside the door for a few seconds before you try knocking again. Before your fist connects with the door, it suddenly opens, causing you to take a step back in surprise. Behind the door is a young woman with glowing green eyes wearing clothing similar to Miya’s. The healer’s eyes widen in shock as you become illuminated by the room’s light.

TLD: Hey, you’re the healer right?

Healer: Yes, I am. Are you the new arrival that I have heard so much about?

TLD: I don’t think there’s much to hear but yeah, I’m the guy that chased after those giant bugs.

Healer: What brings you here? I imagine a traveling warrior such as yourself would have left by now.

TLD: I got into a little fight with some pirates last night and put them out of business. Two of those bastards shot me in the back though.

Once again the healer’s eyes flash with surprise.

Healer: You truly are a brave warrior. Allow me to cure you of your wounds.

TLD: You’re the one doing me the favor here. The sooner I’m back in action the better.

Healer: Of course, please follow me.

You step inside the dimly lit room and the healer guides you to a bed located in its center. As you sit down, you notice strange glowing symbols running along the ground which begin to shift as you look at them. Much like the sign outside, you can’t make heads or tails of the symbols and simply take off your shirt and shotgun, placing them next to you.

TLD: I don’t know how any of this magic stuff works, but I think I should get these bullets out first.

The healer looks upon you, trying her best not to stare as her hands glow with power.

Healer: There is no need. My magic will remove all that ails you.

TLD: Sounds good to me.

The healer places a pair of cold hands on your back and you begin to feel the familiar feeling of rejuvenation encompassing your body. This is heavenly sensation is soon cut off however, as a man in armor stumbles into the room and collapses on the floor, breaking the healer’s concentration and causing your protective instincts to kick in.

Dying Guard: He... has returned... Please help.....help.....

You stand up and approach the guard, hauling him up from under his shoulders and setting him on the bed. You then grab your shotgun and rack it.

TLD: Stay here, I’ll check it out.

Healer: But I have not finished the process, you are still injured!

TLD: Can you help me out with this armor?

With some assistance from the healer, you manage to take off the guard’s breastplate and put it on before charging out of the building, shotgun in hand. Once you make your way outside, you are greeted by the sight of dozens of guards strew across the road. Turning to your left, you see a large bald man with a white tattoo on his chest pummeling the few remaining guards that have yet to face his might. Behind him is another man in white robes who looks just like the rampaging monster before him, only with a much small stature. As the larger man battles, the man in robes simply hovers in the air above him, observing the carnage with a sharp eye. Wasting no time, you take aim at the large man and fire at him repeatedly only for him to disappear in a flash of lightning and appear at your side. Before you can react, he hits you with a devastating headbutt and effortlessly hurls you into a nearby wall. As you struggle to get up, the man in robes approaches you, ignoring the fleeing bystanders.

Robes: This is a fine weapon, wouldn’t you agree, Heng?

Heng: It is nothing more than a toy used by those filthy buccaneers.

Robes: Perhaps, but it appears to be much more efficient. If you can’t find any use for it, than I certainly will. Take it from him.

The man known as Heng crouches down in order to relieve you of your weapon, but their short interaction has given you more than enough time to recover and you hook the large man’s ankle with your foot, bringing him to the ground. In one fluid motion, you rise and shoot at the man in robes, knocking him back and into a group of barrels on the other side of the street. You then point your weapon at Heng, but like before, he vanishes and appears next to you again. This time however, you are ready for him and deliver a spinning strike to his jaw before jumping back to gain some distance. As you face the man, the pain in your back and shoulder begin to flare up again.

TLD: (thinking) Alright, I can take this meathead, all I have to do is watch out for his little disappearing act and I should be fine.

Your analysis is quickly proven incorrect as the large man slips into a fighting stance with the precision of a lifelong warrior and surrounds his fist with crackling energy. Your situation then worsens when the robed man levitates above the ground once more, bringing several barrels in the air along with him.

>Fake out your opponents and use their power against them

You sling the shotgun over your back and get into your own fighting stance with a small grin.

TLD: You jackasses should’ve stayed in bed today. Don’t worry though, you’ll be napping again real soon.

The larger of the two cracks his knuckles before rushing at you with an electrifying combination of punches. The strikes are swift as well as precise and every time you attempt to sidestep or maneuver around him, he simply pivots and blocks your path with another deadly swing. It takes all of your concentration simply to avoid being hit which only makes the job of the robed man that much easier. With a flick of the wrist, the man in white robes flings several barrels at you with the speed of a flurry of bullets. In response, Heng teleports again, this time to the opposite end of the street in order to avoid the makeshift projectiles. You have no such power however, and despite your best efforts, you are struck by several of the barrels and collapse to the ground once more. The man in robes sneers at you and turns his attention to his imposing ally.

Robes: He’s a rather brash one isn’t he? No matter, I believe you can handle the rest.

Heng teleports back to your location and picks you up with one arm. He then proceeds to slam you into the wall and throws another massive punch, pushing you through the wall with incredible force and into the building. A new set of injuries now vie for your attention as you lie in a pile of rubble and dust.

Robes: Well done. Now let us be on our way. We’ll have that tablet in our possession yet.

Heng: Yes master.

As the pair turn away, you clutch your ringing head as you try to reorient yourself. Your vision is going dark and any chance you had of winning this fight has dropped considerably. As you think back to the tablet, your mind begins to splinter once more, adding an obscene amount of mental pain on top of the physical. An intense heat begins to circulate through your veins followed by savage chills. Your strength is returning with a vengeance and as your mind is swallowed up in the surge of power, one question comes to mind.

You don’t know who these guys are and despite getting a glimpse of the tablet’s power you still have no idea what owning it really entails. Either way, as you stand to your feet and gaze upon the destruction caused by this mysterious pair, one thing is certain—they must be stopped.

With an otherworldly burst of speed, you exit the building and approach the monstrous man known as Heng and his arrogant master. You gently tap the large man on the shoulder, prompting him to turn around and face you. Once he sees who is standing before him, his eyes widen in shock.

Heng: You?!?

TLD: The one and only.

The man raises his massive fists and prepares to strike you again, only to be on the receiving end of a of a booming right hook that sends him flying back tens of meters. The force of the blow sends dust flying all around you and grabs the attention of the man in white who looks upon you with a shocked expression rivaling that of his henchman.

TLD: Round two, anyone?

The robed man’s eyes glow with power as you stand before him defiantly. He then unleashes said power in the form of a surge of lightning that rips through the ground as it approaches you. Without any sign of strain, you simply hold out your hand and the attack harmlessly fizzes out against your palm.

Robes: IMPOSSIBLE!

You continue forward with your arm outstretched, walking through the concentrated surge as if you were taking a casual stroll. Your stride is interrupted however as Heng returns in a flash of light , and with an attack at the ready. Your opponents fists crackle with energy as he throws everything he has in your general direction. For your part, you simply counter his blows with one arm, matching both of his fists with only one of your own, causing the ground below you to crack. In response, your opponent begins teleporting at random intervals, throwing strikes at every conceivable angle. This does little to change the outcome of the matchup however, and you continue to parry while walking towards the man in white who is still attempting to overpower you.

TLD: You assholes might put on a nice light show, but you aren’t really that bright.

Robes: Unbelievable! How could a worm such as you posses even a fraction of the tablet’s power? I won’t stand for this!

TLD: The tables have turned bright eyes, now take a seat.

In one swift motion, you dodge another punch and deliver an earth shattering uppercut to Heng’s midsection the second he reappears once more. The blow sends him skywards at blistering speeds, and he explodes in a shower of sparks in midair. The sparks then spread out and converge on the robed man, entering his body and causing lighting bolts to rain down the length of the street. As buildings crumble around you, the man in white begins to change form, becoming much large than he was initially.

(1/2)
>>
>>4304988
Robes: We are whole once more, worm. You may have grown in strength but you cannot possibly hope to overcome ours.

TLD: Funny, I was just about to say the same thing. You picked the wrong day to stand in the path of a true hero.

The transformed man in robes snarls and produces two swords made of pure light. He gives them an aggressive twirl and swings them both to his sides, creating a ring of sizable shockwaves around him.

Robes: Approach if you dare.

You are more than willing to oblige and spring forward, delivering a flying knee to both of his blades as he brings them up to defend himself. This does him no favors however, as your strike shatters the blades and launches your stunned opponent into the air where you follow him to deliver the final blow. As soon as you catch up to the helpless warrior, you drive an elbow deep into his chest, causing the both of you to plummet towards the ground and land with a resounding crash. Once the dust clears, it becomes apparent that you’ve landed on what was once a section of the town’s wall. The structure is now a large pile of rubble and in the center of the pile is your soundly defeated foe. The body doesn’t last long however, and much like his other half, he explodes in a flash of sparks, these one have nowhere to return however, and simply dissipate with several small cracks.

You now stand in the wreckage alone with your fists trembling as your power soars in tandem with your racing mind. The sheer might you now wield has no equal, that much is certain and there’s a lot of good you can do with it as long as you can maintain this form. The first thing that catches your attention is a indescribable source of chaotic energy to the north. For some odd reason, this source reminds you of the radio waves and stranger still, you can now perceive these waves as the reverberate through the air. You also feel a similar, yet more faint anomaly to the east.

You surmise that with your newfound power, getting to your destination and back will be a simple matter and in a single bound, you hurl yourself to the other edge of town and onto the docks, startling the townspeople going about their business and cracking the wood beneath you. After taking a quick look around, you spot your favorite siblings on a ship engaged in a conversation with a bearded man wearing an dark blue bandana and an eyepatch. In less than a second, you are across the dock and at their sides, much to the shock of everyone.

Elisia: Where did you come from!?!

The seafaring man is quick to act and points a small blade at your neck.

Sailor: If you have business with me, you’d better speak now.

Ernst: This is Travis, Captain Hobbes.

Captain Hobbes: (putting his knife down) The hero? He’s a fast one, that’s for sure. So fast in fact, that your story is actually believable now.

Elisia: What happened to you? You seem different somehow.

TLD: I had to handle a few lightweights who were looking for the tablet. We can deal with the ship later, there’s something I want to check out.

Ernst: It should only take us a few hours to complete this task. Even with your vehicle we still don’t know precisely where this radio tower is.

TLD: There’s no time. I don’t know how long I can keep this up.

Elisia: What are you talking about Travis?

TLD: You’ll find out when we get there. (turning to Captain Hobbes) We’ll be back in a bit.

Without warning you grab your new companions and hold them under your arms before taking off at breakneck speeds. Before the pair can even think to scream, you have left Leuton far behind and are now running along the northern road. As you run, you scarcely process the sensation if your feet hitting the ground as each step takes you hundreds of kilometers closer to the source of the disturbance. You do note the change in scenery however when the hills and valleys are replaced with muddy terrain, clouded water, putrid air, and countless trees. As you pass by a polluted looking river, you hear the sounds of commotion and come screeching to a halt. You then release your hold on the disheveled siblings who immediately brace themselves on the nearest tree they can find.

Elisia: (panting) Why......would anyone ever....need to move this.....fast?!?

TLD: (gesturing to yourself) Sorry, I’m not totally in control of this.

Ernst slowly sits down and gently holds his head in his hands.

Ernst: And what would “this” be?

TLD: When I held the tablet yesterday, something changed. It must’ve given me superpowers or something. When I’m powered up it’s almost like I’m someone else. This is the second time it’s happened but this time, it’s different. I feel like I can do anything!

Elisia: Is it within your power to give us a warning before sprinting across entire settlements with us?

TLD: (shrugging) I would’ve but then we could’ve ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere halfway through. Like I said, I don’t know how long this stuff lasts.

Elisia: (looking around) Wait, this is the Swamp of Agony!

TLD: Yeah, I sensed the signal coming from here.

Ernst: Why did you stop then? There’s clearly nothing in the general area.

TLD: I heard screaming, crying, and the sound of a fight.

Elisia: All at once?

TLD: The crying is in one direction and the fight is in another. Now I don’t know where to go.

Ernst: Can you at the very least maintain a reasonable speed this time?

TLD: I can’t make any promises.

>Check out the fight

TLD: You two ready to go?

The two siblings let out a groan as you secure them once more and you dash off in the direction of the struggle. You try to be a bit more considerate in regards to your speed this time around, but a small voice in your head urges you to give it your all at all times. You find it odd that a voice in your head would be something of a motivational speaker, but your focus shifts back to more important matters once you see what you’re dealing with. Standing several meters away from you is a man covered in burn scars in a wooden mask swinging a thick club at a rotund man in scale armor. Behind the two combatants is a large black cobra busying itself with devouring the many large frog-men attempting to get near its masked master. As the groups battle it out, a terrified looking group of humans stand in a large iron cage located on a wagon by the side of the road.

TLD: What the fuck?

Your confusion doesn’t go unnoticed and Elisia points at the frog-men attempting to creep up on the masked man from behind.

Elisia: Those are Anurians. They live in a city in the center of the swamp. They are the Republic’s only ally in the Southern War.

TLD: Ok giant bugs, demons, and giant frogs. Got it. What about Captain Caveman, the knight, and those people? Those are slaves aren’t they?

Elisia: I have no idea who either of them are. The people in that cage might be slaves but it’s illegal for us to get involved in Anurian affairs. Even entering their city is a punishable offense without signed permission from a High Senator.

TLD: Then it’s a good thing I’m a vigilante.

Ernst: Be that as it may, that man and his pet appear to be capable of holding their own. We should simply observe for now.

As you turn back to the fight, Ernst’s evaluation seems to be spot on. The masked man and the knight seem to be fighting evenly and the Anurians are no match for the giant cobra who is making quick work of their ranks. Though the knight is always on the back foot, he doesn’t seem to be in any real danger due to his thick armor. The tide turns however when the knight attacks with a sudden kick to the masked man’s knee, bringing him to the ground with a cry of agony. The knight then proceeds to put his sword cleanly through the weakened joint, earning another pained reaction from his foe.

Knight: Filth. Did you honestly think you could escape us? You have been nothing more than an annoyance for these last few years, but your days of interference are now over!

(1/3)
>>
>>4307013
Despite being in dire straits, the masked man refuses to give in.

Masked Man: Do your worst, you swine! Wether I live or die, I won’t rest until the last of my people are free!

Knight: Even without the use of your leg, you still carry on. You truly are deluded.

Masked Man: And you’re a disgrace! You’ve turned your back on your own people just so that you could serve that deranged fanatic! You sold your very soul for the favor of a madman!

Knight: I’ve heard enough. It was fun toying with you, but it’s time I rid my masters of your irritating existence.

The knight brings his sword up once more with the intent to bring it down on the injured man’s head. You’re quick to step in however, and casually hold the blade in place with one hand before the final blow can be struck. The knight struggles to free his weapon and roars with fury at your sudden appearance and meddling. Despite his best efforts however, your grip is far stronger than his and the rest of him as well.

Knight: Release your hold or taste my wrath!

TLD: If you say so.

With a smile, you let go of the weapon causing the bloodthirsty knight to overshoot his target and stumble into one of the many mud puddles scattered around the area.

TLD: I think you should give up now. That sword isn’t gonna cut it with me.

Knight: (standing) You arrogant fool! Strength alone will not save you from me!

TLD: I’m not scared world’s biggest tinfoil ball.

Knight: I am the Grand Pursuer, you welp! I am the overseer of this compound, and in the swamp, second only to the Left Hand of Shor-Wu! You have forfeited your life by standing against me!

TLD: Thanks, I didn’t ask. Since you like giving out information, why don’t you tell me what’s going on here?

Pursuer: You may think that you have an edge over me, but your prowess could never compare to mine! As soon as I laid eyes on you, I learned all I would ever need to know about you. I know of all your weakness and of over a dozen ways to kill you in single combat alone! I will—

The rest of the knight’s ramblings are cut short by a small flick to his helmet, knocking the rambling slaver unconscious. As the slaver collapses with a groan, you quickly take the blade out of his hand and snap it in two.

TLD: Why does everyone around here need to make ego stroking speeches all the time?

As you turn to look at the masked man, you see him attempting to flee the scene despite his lack of mobility.

TLD: Wait up mam, I’m the good guy here!

Masked Man: Good? Nothing good roams free in this cursed land!

TLD: If it I wasn’t for me, you have gotten the worlds bloodiest haircut. I can get you some help, but you have to trust me.

Masked Man: (sighs) Just turn me over to that monster and be done with it. All I ask is that you let the others go free.

As the man lies in the dirt, his large pet slithers over to him and lets out a hiss in your direction.

Masked Man: Leave me, my friend. I’m finished.
>>
>>4307015
TLD: If anyone’s dying here, it’s Mr. Heavy Metal over here. (lightly kicks the round knight over on his side) Come on out guys, I need some help over here!

Upon hearing your call for help, Elisia and Ernst step out from behind the trees. As the get closer to you, they give looks of concern towards the group of dead Anurians. The fear visible in their eyes reminds you of the look your friends and family often had on their faces as New York turned into a mass grave. Thinking back to the despair and hopelessness you witnessed in those days makes you violently angry. With great difficulty, you suppress the urge to break something and instead decide to express your anger through words.

TLD: Are you guys still worried about the fucking cops or whatever you have here coming after you?!?

Ernst: Simply be seen near a harmed Anurian could mean death for us, or worse.

TLD: We’re in the middle of fucking nowhere and the people running this place are pricks! If anything, they should be scared of us and they will be!

You then approach the cage filled to the brim with slaves and rip an entire side of bars out of it.

What will you do?

TLD: You guys are all free now. (pointing to the masked man) Get out of here and take him with you.

Masked Man: I can’t leave now! There are others I must free!

TLD: Just take it easy and we’ll handle everything. I’m not leaving until I shut this operation the fuck down and get everyone out.

Masked Man: Do you swear it?

TLD: I swear all the time man. Trust me, they aren’t getting away with this shit while I’m on the job.

Masked Man: You have my thanks.

A few of the more healthy former slaves gather around their would-be liberator and hoist him on their shoulders while the rest begin to loot the dead Anurians for their weapons. After the group agrees on a plan and gets situated, they begin the long walk too freedom and quickly disappear into the trees with the large cobra bringing up the rear.

Elisia: Now what do we do?

TLD: (pointing at the ground) We follow the wagon tracks back to the slave camp and get to work.

Ernst: You were serious when you said you would go on this mission?

TLD: Dead serious.

Ernst: Need I remind you that we’re hopelessly outnumbered and very likely outmatched?

Elisia: I hate to say it, but he has a reason to be worried this time.

TLD: You guys were ok with fighting giant bugs, pirates, and demons but a few slimy airbags are too much for you?

Ernst: If we don’t die trying to lead a slave rebellion, the Republic will have us executed once they find out. The High Senators will want to make an example out of us.

TLD: Fuck the Republic and fuck the senators! There’s a good chance I’ll have to deal with one of those assholes if I’m ever gonna get home in the first place and I don’t care how many psychos I have to go through along the way! I trusted you guys last night and gave you a chance to show me what you’re really about, now it’s your turn to give me a chance. I didn’t get to where I am now by letting injustice go without an answer and I’m not starting now!

Ernst: Didn’t you die?

TLD: Dying is better than sitting on your ass while the world goes to hell! Now who’s with me?

Elisia: You have my sword!

Ernst: Well I suppose I can’t allow you to do this on your own.

Elisia: Of course not! All for one and one for all!

Ernst: (pointing at the knight) With that settled, what will we do with him?

TLD: We’ll see how much of a badass he is when he can’t hide behind his armor or his goons. If he’s lucky, his prick bosses will save his sorry ass.

You pick up the unconscious knight and tear the scale armor off of him with ease before suspending him on a nearby branch by his undershirt.

TLD: Now let’s get to work.

Elisia: So what’s the plan for infiltrating the slave camp, Travis?

TLD: We sneak in the place and have a little chat with the bossman. (cracks knuckles)

Ernst: That’s easier said than done.

TLD: Yeah, you’re right. But we’re getting it done anyway.

Elisia: I suppose it’s time to fly again?

TLD: You know it. Hang on tight!

Within seconds you and your companions find yourself standing several meters away from the walls that surround the slave camp. For the next hour or so, you observe the camp from the top of a large tree while Ernst and Elisia focus on keeping track of the activity on the wall. Judging by the low amount of guards stationed on the outer rim of the camp, it’s obvious that there’s never been a security risks or an attempted revolt in the past. As you and your team study the walls in order to get a feel for the guards’ schedule, the sounds of tortured screams ring out through the trees and from under the ground. Aside from the screaming and wailing, you can also feel the radio waves coming from somewhere deep within the bowels of the complex. By this point however, you’re starting to think that these waves do more than just transmit signals for entertainment purposes. Unfortunately, you don’t have much time to theorize once the guards begin to move once more. Snapping yourself out of detective mode, you leap from the tree and land next to your hidden companions.

Ernst: They’re beginning the third rotation.

TLD: Then let’s get moving.

With an open palm, Ernst concentrates and summons a powerful gust of wind around him which he then begins to manipulate using circular hand motions. The wind around you begins to pick up speed until the air around you emits a shrill whistle. Once the wind tunnel is complete, Elisia lines up with her target on the wall and gets into a running stance. You on the other hand stand just outside of the tunnel and a bit towards the left of the blonde spellsword.

TLD: Showtime!

Aided by the wind tunnel, Elisia sprints towards the walls at speeds which would have seemed impossible to you if you hadn’t run halfway across an entire country a only few minutes earlier. Though her newfound speed can’t compared to yours, the boost allows her to run up the side of the wall and take one of the Anurian guards by surprise. Ernst is quick to follow his sister’s lead and uses the wind tunnel to replicate her wall running feat. As you watch the pair silently and methodically dispatch the guards, you step inside of the tunnel and prepare for your entrance.

TLD: One.....two.........three!

As the ground beneath you gives way, you hurl yourself at the wall and perform a running leap, letting the wind tunnel propel you high over the structure and into position. Once you reach the peak of your jump, you spread your arms wide and prepare for impact as your targets come into view. Without warning, you descend upon a pair of guards with a double clothesline maneuver, planting their faces firmly in the dirt below.

TLD: (wiping off your hands) Nailed it.

With the guards in your area out of commission, you wave to Elisia and Ernst who are making their way down one of the watchtowers. Silently, the three of you creep over to a large hatch leading to an underground chamber and open it, releasing a massive blast of sweltering heat. Once you’re inside, you come across a large room with four branching tunnels.

Elisia: It looks like stealth is no longer an option.

TLD: On second thought, maybe sneaking into a place we’ve never been to before was a bad idea from the start. (cracking knuckles) Oh well.

Ernst: Let’s try to avoid turning this mission into a raid this early on.

Elisia: We don’t really have a choice here. There’s nowhere to hide in a tunnel.

TLD: We could get lucky and pick an empty one, and I’m feeling lucky.

TLD: Let’s see what’s behind door number three.

The three of you creep towards the third tunnel, weapons drawn. As you make your way deeper inside the tunnel, your surroundings steadily become darker and darker until you can hardly see where you’re going. Due to the various twists and turns inside the tunnel, you are forced to use your hands to feel your way throughout the earthy hall. Occasionally, your hand runs across what can only be described as human corpses incased in the walls as if they directly merged into it. Your suspicions are eventually confirmed when a dim blue light on the far side of the tunnel begins to illuminate the remainder of the tunnel and shed light on the petrified slaves. As you stop to examine the strange phenomenon, screams begin to echo out through the tunnel again.

TLD: Do you know anything about this?

Ernst: (running a hand along the wall) I can’t sense any trace magic along the walls.

TLD: What else could it be? People don’t just melt into walls like that.

Elisia: Are you sure this isn’t just the result of a failed teleportation spell.

Ernst: There are many ways this could’ve been done, but there are no magic users here aside from us. There are three strange constructs here however, one magical in nature and another that I can’t put my finger on.

TLD: Well there’s only one way to find out whats going on here. Let’s get in there, kick some ass and do some investigating.

As swiftly and silently as possible, you and your companions move towards the end of the tunnel and enter into an enormous chamber filled with guards, slaves chained to one another, and a large tower built from an opaque, crystalline glass. As you observe from around the corner, a few of the guards prod a group of slaves towards a portal in fhe center of the room with their swords. Across the room, a few guards fiddle with a large panel located on the side of the tower, causing the temperature in the room to drop to freezing levels as the faint blue light is projected from the portal.

Elisia: (whispering) What is that? I’ve never seen anything like that before.

TLD: (whispering) Well it definitely ain’t a radio tower that’s for sure.

Ernst: (whispering) Regardless of its origin, we need to act now.

TLD: Then let’s do it!

One of the guards hear your exclamation and turn towards your hiding spot only to have your fist burrow into his face, sending the frog-man flying across the room. This act of aggression draws all of the attention onto you and your battle ready companions who walk in after you.

Guard #1: Intruders! Seize them and throw them into the Agony Pit as well!

Moments later, the Anurian slavers are pilled into a corner by Ernst with his magic while you and Elisia free the slaves from their chains.

TLD: Anyone got the scoop on what’s going on down here?

Slave #1: We were taken from our homes, sent here for the sole purpose of working ourselves to death!

Slave #23: Most of us were taken in a series of raids but a few of us were kidnapped by the Vultures.

TLD: Vultures? And what’s the deal with this crazy looking tower and portal?

???: I think I can answer that.

The room freezes and everyone turns their attention to a tall figure in a thick brown hooded cloak. The figure is perched on top of the glass tower and holds a strange red orb in his hands. The figure’s face is practically featureless and he gives off an aura of subtle power.

TLD: (whipping out your shotgun) And just who the fuck are you?

???: Quick to act. I like that.

TLD: You ain’t seen nothing yet. Now talk, my fingers are getting twitchy.

???: My name is not important, in fact its somewhat uncreative. Time, however is of the essence, so I’m willing to make a deal with you.

TLD: This better be good.

???: I’ll help these people here and rescue the ones from the magma chamber along with any others that I find. Meanwhile, you and your cohorts dispose of Shor-Wu’s Left Hand and the King of Anurians. I will answer any questions you have afterwards.

Ernst: What do you have to gain from helping us?

???: (chuckles) If you don’t die, we may be able to help each other at a later date. Our interests aren’t as selfless as yours, but we do share a common enemy. One who must be stopped at all costs.

TLD: Alright, just tell us where these scumbags are and we’ll deal with them.

???: I can do better.

The figure does a flip from the tower, landing with the grace of a cat and a showy bow. He then approaches the three of you before holding his orb in front of him, causing red smoke to pour out from it and obscuring your vision. When you can finally see again, you find yourselves inside of a large chamber filled with tacky looking tapestries and pillars made of silver. Several meters in front of you sits a large Anurian wearing a crown and a tuxedo being fanned by more human slaves. Beside him stand a much smaller Anurian wearing fancy robes and holding a large scroll. As the smoke finally clears, the king rises from his throne in shock.

Anurian King: What sorcery is this?!?

TLD: (aiming your shotgun) Glad you asked, I’m going to make some bastards disappear with this magic wand. Care to be my first volunteer?

Anurian King: GUARDS!!!

Upon hearing the command from their king, ten heavily armored Anurians come out from behind the silver pillars and brandish their swords. As they step forward, the king’s throne begins to slide towards the back wall as a sliding door opens to aid in the frog-man’s escape.

Elisia: We can’t let him get away!

TLD: You two handle the goons, I’ve got bigger frogs to fry!

You charge forward, leaping over the guards’ heads and continue to pursue the throne just as it disappears through the secret exit.

As you chase after the speeding throne, you begin to feel as if a massive burden is begin lifted onto your back. Slowly but surely, your pace becomes one that you are much more accustomed too.and the throne becomes harder and harder to keep up with until it has created a large amount of distance between you and it. After being in your Hero form for so long, you have finally lost the ability to maintain it, causing the immense power to drain from you with each step.

Anurian King: So long, you insolent monkey!

TLD: You’re not getting off that easy bitch! It’s time for a buzzer beater!

You quickly take aim with your shotgun and point the barrel towards to bottom of the runaway throne in an attempt to damage the rail system and throw it off balance with a well placed shot.

You fire at the fleeing throne three times but every shot misses by a few meters as the throne outpaces your shots. If this keeps up, you’ll lose him for sure.

TLD: Where’s that fucking chopper when you need it.

TLD (Hero): We left it in Leuton.

TLD: Who are you? Forget it, I’ve got a throne to catch.

You point your thumb towards the end of the secret passage and to your surprise, the bike comes speeding towards you and stops at your feet. The vehicle them revs its engine as if it were happy to see you.

TLD: Huh, neat.

You climb onto the bike, start it up, and in seconds you’re hot on the king’s proverbial tail.

Anurian King: NO! NO! NO! KEEP AWAY YOU BEAST!

You ignore his frantic pleas and shoot out the bottom of the throne, causing it to lock up and come to an immediate stop. The king is thrown from his seat and sent sprawling in the dirt where you quickly catch up to him.

TLD: Tell me where to find the Left Hand and I’ll make this quick.

Anurian King: The Left Hand? Take him! Do whatever you want with him, just spare me!

TLD: You’re a real sellout you know that?

Anurian King: The Left Hand is an overgrown child who disrespects our culture with his unhealthy obsession and subjects our young males to his sick perversions! We only keep him around because Shor-Wu forces us to.

TLD: Anything else you want to get off your chest?

Anurian King: He smells terrible!

TLD: Anything else, you know like his location?

Anurian King: He lives in the old abandoned pyramid to some ancient god that no one even worships anymore! He always takes his “sacred baths” at this time!

TLD: Thanks for the info.

Anurian King: You’re not going to kill me are you?

TLD: You looked pretty guilt free when those slaves were pampering you so yeah, you’re done.

Anurian King: Please! Just give me another chance, you’ll never see me again!

TLD: Alright, quit whining. Just get the fuck outta here.

You move the barrel of your shotgun away from the former king’s head and turn the bike back towards the direction of the throne room.

Anurian ex-King: RREEEEEEEEEEE! (pulls out a knife)

You quickly whip around and casually blast the top half of the backstabbing frog clean off. As the flesh and blood slides off the walk you shake your head in disgust.

TLD: What a bitch.

You arrive back in the throne room where the guards are lying all over the floor as Elisia and Ernst search for a way to open the secret exit.

TLD: Hope on guys! We’ve got one last freak to fry!

The siblings hop on and you take off down the passageway once again. After a moment of riding, you find yourself back outside of the slave camp and into the foul swamp.

Elisia: Where are we going now?

TLD: Before I shot that son of a bitch, he told me that the Left Hand is hanging out in a Pyramid.

Ernst: What’s a Pyramid? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

TLD: It’s like a big triangle made out of stone, you can’t miss it.

Elisia: It looks like the only one way to find it is to go deeper into the swamp.

TLD: Then that’s exactly what we’re gonna do.

You drive along the dirt paths that snake between an endless horde of dead tree. Occasionally, you see disturbing looking creatures peering at your from bushes and leaping from trees but the speed of the chopper keeps them from getting anywhere near you even if they wanted to attack. As you continue on, a small structure begins to appear over the horizon and an unidentifiable stench begins to permeate through the air. The small speck in the distance soon becomes a gigantic mass of stone with a weathered exterior and the bones of many travelers hanging from the cracks. Pale storm clouds swirl around the monolith overhead and the sound of crazed laughter can be heard from inside.

TLD: Be ready for anything guys. Something tells me that things are about to get wild.
