Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony, but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. As a result of Sozin’s actions, the Fire Nation began a long seize of conquests and tyranny throughout the land in their continuous expansion. The world slowly smoldered as the Air Nomads were eradicated by the Fire Nation, leaving nothing but empty homes in their wake. Although the Air Nomads were vanquished, their legacy was safely preserved alongside their wildlife through the Air Acolytes.

Even so, it didn’t make any significant difference to the events portrayed by the rest of the world. The Fire Nation has already started a full-scale campaign on the Southern Water Tribe, beginning the cycle of death anew. Weakening its forces and scattering several of its people in the process to escape the tyranny. The other nations who also sense the looming threat of the Fire Nation began to make their next stand. Some chose to fight their soon to be oppressors while others fortified them in security through isolation. Resulting in mixed results, only the rare few that succeed remains to this day, but most saw it as delaying the inevitable.

A hundred years this war has raged, scorching the forests and destroying lives. Many have died and all hope of the Avatar's return has been extinguished, but life goes on. The walls of Ba-Sing-Se, Omashu, and the Northern Water Tribe have held the Fire Nation at bay, seemingly nothing can penetrate them. As always, there is also solace in wandering. But life continues to move forward despite everything. Lying dormant in all life was the key to salvation and restoration, a crystalline network. In whatever shape or form, Balance always finds a way to maintain itself.

In lieu of the near extermination of the Air Nomads, the spiritual forces that govern nature and stability chose to reawaken a power that said to have been lost to the test of time. To combat the potential imbalance between both the physical and spiritual realm, and bring balance to the world, a new piece on the table has been brought into the light. Almost a parallel to the avatar, an energy bender has remerged to answer the world’s call. For better or worse…

Since people want to go down that rabbit hole, here are some autism suggestions. One is generally needed but depending on how much you take will unlock additional stuff at the start, such as Spiritbending, Chi Blocking/Pressure Points, and improved bending/skills.

>Ultra Sensitivity (In exchange for heightened senses, especially around hearing and touch, even the faintest of sensory stimuli can disturb/offend you. Depending on the volume decides the severity of how it affects you with the common symptom being headaches and nausea)

>Socially Oblivious (You have a very hard time reading the mood and emotions of your surroundings and those around you. It takes even longer to understand simple statements and/or questions. You generally take things too literally, often missing the point or the subtleness of things, especially that of humor, irony, and sarcasm)

>Emotional Outbreak (You have a notoriously hard time regulating your emotions and/or expressing them properly. Normally stoic and aloof, you are prone to wild mood swings or unusual behavior. Sudden outbursts and/or delayed reactions are also a common courtesy due to your stunted emotional stimuli. People generally mistake your emotions and body language differently from what you are truly feeling. At the same time, you are often unfazed by real dangers or threats, serving as a double-edged sword.)

>ADHD (Constantly hyperactive and impulses, you are a constant ball of chaos that cannot be tethered down. You have a hard time sitting down and keeping calm or still. Focusing on tasks that don't immediately grab your attention or fit your interest/needs becomes a serious chore. Concertation is equally problematic. Easily distracted and quick to forget, you are the type of person who needs additional tools or guidance to finish objectives and/or following directions)
>>
>>4304115

Uneven Cognition (Be it through birth or by training, your mind is overspecialized in certain areas and lacking in others. Verbal skills are your bane as you have trouble reading, writing, or even speaking depending on your state of mind. As a result, you rely solely on your immediate memory or visual skill such as body language reading to compensate and adjust accordingly. But even that can be used against you due to your overreliance. Can count as two slots if taken with dyslexia )

Limited Speech (While not exactly a mute, you come pretty close due to frequent whispering and studdering. You have a limited form of speech that's directly tied to your weak verbal skills. Thus, resulting in your empathizing body language and other forms of communication to get your point across. Unfortunate, results may vary depending on the individual and/or your given situation)

Obsession (Being unusually attracted to something, or plagued with unusual unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead to compulsive behaviors, you are a slave to your impulses and wild thinking. Everything you do falls under a specific pattern, deviating from it for even the smallest amount can leave you in a state of panic and distress. When something has your attention, you will not stop until you are sated or distracted by something else Can count as two if you also take repetitive behaviors (compulsions.) or easy paranoia)

Jinx (Most people are somewhat clumsy by nature, for you, it's the standard. No matter what you do, you are always accident-prone as a walking jinx. Klutziness is your motif thus you have been prone to develop atypical posture, odd ways of moving, or even reacting out of instincts before your mind registers its current predicament. )

>Other (Write-in will be judged depending on the severity of the case)
>>
>>4304117

Adding one more

>Dulled Senses (In complete opposite to heightened senses, your sensory functions is defean to an extent. While you can still experience them, it takes a lot more effort than normal to perceive anything. In exchange, you have a very high pain tolerance to compensate for your lack of urgency in your pain receptors. A double edged sword.)

Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom. How long has it been since you last saw a sight of such a vast metropolis? For all you cared, it could’ve been a thousand years and you’d still think it wasn’t long enough. With all of the political corruption, rampant conspiracies, underhanded deals, secretive assassinations, and your personal favorite child abduction and brainwashing, it’s no wonder why you didn’t have any fond attachments. Much less regret over being very joyful to have escaped from such a hellhole all those years ago.

Sure, being a runaway princess meant that you didn’t have any connections or any of the vast wealth that your heritage provided you. Less you didn’t want to be rediscovered and put on a one-way trip back home. Which for you meant going back to the accursed Lake Laogai, once again undergoing the harsh conditioning and brainwashing to become one of the Dai Li personal tools. Something that you swore that you would never let happen to you ever again. Of course, that was the only thing you remember clearly.

Everything else prior to your escape was all but a complete blur. A clear consequence of the years of physical and mental conditioning in light of the brainwashing. There was something about you that made the Dai Li personally seak you out and groom you into his “queen” in this chessboard called life. For as long as you can remember, which was at the age of thirteen from your escape, you possessed a special power. A power that was uncommon to the populous but still important to the grand scheme of the Earth Kingdom. Earthbending.

In simple terms through specific motions and body positions, it granted you the means to manipulate the very earth around you. You felt like you had this power for a good long while, but it was hard to confirm when most of your memories were currently jumbled and distorted. Fighting through your brainwashing took everything out of you. And from the feel of it, it was going to certainly take a long time to recover naturally. However, that wasn’t precisely the power that made you sought out by the Dai Li.

No, what you possessed far exceeded such simple matters. A mysterious power that was long since forgotten to the test of time, it was extraordinary as it was ancient. The only thing you know about it was its name, Energybending. Its applications were still a mystery to you, especially since the power only came to you instinctively. It’ll be a lot easier if you had your whole memories, maybe then you would know what it’s full secrets are. But alas, you made do with what you do know in these past three years of freedom.

>>4304415

Currently, you rose up from a long nap sleeping under a nice warm cave on a clear winter day. Earlier in the day, you were rounding up food and spending your time doing your daily regiment. Like a mighty Ursa, after training and eating you naturally went to recuperate. Although hibernate would be more accurate since the cold and you were never friends.

>81

Letting out an exaggerated yawn, you briefly stretched out your arms behind your back. Gently twisting your waist side to side, followed by spreading your legs in standard stretching motion. Quickly limbering your body into its supple yet sturdy state, you prop yourself upwards towards the exit. The cave was in low light, so it wasn’t hard for you to navigate as a seemingly natural-born Earthbender. Stepping out of the cave you were met with the bright glow of the afternoon sunlight.

Having gotten just enough strength from your little catnap to be back at the top, physical order you begin to reflect on your next objective. Being self-reliant and on your own for the past two and a half years made you develop the necessary skills in order to survive. Nobody was going to come to your aid, not when the world already is a harsh place to live thanks to the propaganda of the Fire Nation. Even without that, there were common threats such as bandits, thugs, and other kinds of rift raft lurking in the shadows.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for your harsh conditioning and innate talents, a lady of your stature wouldn’t have made it through the lands unscathed. Course, that also took quite a blow to your feminine charms, often compared to an Ursula rather than a charming and resourceful young woman. Not that you really mind since it only meant they believed you were strong. And strength was something you deeply appreciated. Both as an Earthbender and as an individual. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have thoroughly training yourself to further hone your already impressive skills.

Speaking off, your mind starts to blankly recall just that as you traverse around the snow. Now you weren’t sure if it was really there or you just imagine it due to being half asleep. But in your memory, you recall yourself drifting into what appears to be some sort of library in your dreams. A vast collection of knowledge that seems to expand from as far as the eyes can see. Perhaps even beyond that. The place was quite hazy but you believed that as a child you went through that space countless times. And there was someone important waiting for you there.

Dreaming nowadays was a blank memory with the occasion flashes back to the brainwashing that drove you into serious heat flashes. Still, you trusted your intuition to believe that the glimpses of that place were real. And you were willing to do anything to go back to that place. Thus, after walking far enough from the secret cave, you made your next stop sitting under what appears to be a large rock underneath a wide waterfall. Even in the midst of winter, the river’s flow continues to move forward.
>>
>>4304598

Using the sight as a means to help you concentrate, you stood safely underneath the waterfall, taking a yoga sitting position. Legs crossed against one another, you slowly close your eyes and time the rhythm of your breath with your heartbeat. Going into a meditative stance, you begin focusing yourself and getting in touch with your spirituality. To recreate that similar outside of body experience your dreams granted, you needed to reach deep into the source of the matter and draw it into the surface. And what better way to do that than with meditation.

While concentration is generally a trial for you, when it came to stuff like Bending, you were strangely a natural in it. At least, it took far less effort than what was normal for you anyway. Insinuating rhythmic breathing to help focus quickly begins to pay off for you. Each breath you took brought you that much closer towards your goal. Visualizing the point of entry and letting the goal of all inhibitor and/or other tethers. You feel yourself becoming lighter than air. Reaching a sense of liberation as your consciousness embraces the thrilling sensation of freedom. In response to this, your body starts to emit an emerald glow.

Quickly enveloping your entire body, it brightly sines through the waterfall. Instinctively, your body moves outwards, smoothly rising to stand on your two feet. Slowly opening your eyes, in a daze, you start gazing around your surroundings. To your surprise, everything was exactly how you remember it as you weren’t in the library. Feeling disappointed you nearly kicked the water. Only to find your feet sinking into it, but no sensation of coldness or damp wetness. Confused by this your eyes darts down to the surface, gazing at your reflection.

From what you saw appears to be a reflection of yourself. Still covered in green energy, your mass was more detailed as it resembles your typical appearance. But it was clear on closer inspection that your body was transparent. Turning your head back gave you the final piece to realize that you more than achieve that out of body experience you were hoping for. Right behind you was your body, currently still in meditation. This was the perfect time to be alarmed, but as you think about it, a familiar connection starts to jibe inside you.

Turning your head to the direction where you were perceiving those strange vibes led you towards looking past the rocky terrain. Seemingly seeing past what your regular vision’s parameters foretold the exact coordinates to where you seek most. How you were doing this wasn’t within your field of understanding. Leaving you baffled as the information just flows into you like the river stream. Traveling at speeds faster than lightning, your mind quickly processed all of it in a nanosecond. Quickly reverting your sight back at your current surroundings.

Naturally, as one of your age and status, you did the only logical thing for anyone in your position. Panic And panic you did as you start fidgeting around, holding the sides of your head trying to wreck your brain over it. Now you weren’t any stranger to the unusual if not arguably abnormal. From as long as you could vaguely remember you’re someone that was exuberant to a hyperactive extremity. And it clearly showed physically as well given how magnetic and easier to conduct static electricity you were in comparison to the average folk. Even unintentionally producing it in small shocks or being resistant to voltage.

You weren’t sure why but you got the sinking suspicion that you might have actually been struck with lightning once in your life before the brainwashing and survived it. It was as good as any other idea as to why you feel constantly supercharged. Either way, in your panicking an idea quickly, bubbles in your mind. Abruptly stopping you in motion before sly grin forms around your plump cheeks and supplely full lips. What are the chances that anyone got to do spooky specter stuff while not actually being dead?

Motivated to take full advantage of the new state you start to move from your body. Starting with a light jog it quickly transitions into a run. Underneath your feet, your body starts to gradually lift itself from the ground, occasionally balancing between connecting with the surface and hovering off of it. Instinctively, you were learning how to move like a spirit, via levitation and eventually flight. Before you even register what was happening your body realign itself, pulling off actual levitation while keeping itself orientated.

Having quickly gotten over the terror you come to realize that being an astral projection was actually pretty fun. Walking through solid objects and doing all kinds of ghostly apparitions stuff certainly held a strong hook upon you. Which in itself wasn’t hard but maintaining it was another story. Be that as it may, it took a while for the threat to come upon you exploring the town as a spirit. To your surprise, nobody could see you, at least not without making a conscious effort doing so. Corporealizing your astral body took a lot of concertation, and more so it zapped your stamina the longer you maintained it.
>>
>>4305474

Thus you kept to sticking being transparent and ghost-like in your incorporeal form. With that said, you spent your time looking and observing the people in Gaoling. Most went through their everyday life just going through the motions unbothered. Some things you saw certainly blow your incorporeal socks off as inside doors kept rather juicy secrets. Such as one of the town’s higher up with his poofy pompadour was actually a wig to hide his baldness. But as you continue observing and finding more things about the citizens, perhaps even things you wish you hadn’t, your attention span quickly fades.

“Wow, this isn’t as fun as I originally thought it would be.” You mutter, floating above a group of girls in their home gossiping about trivial things like boys and marriage. This was enough to make you twist your face into a disappointed, if not downright agitated blank stare. “And now I’m bored too.”

Thinking that you did more than enough spying on the citizens you took back to follow up on your main objective. Getting your mind back in order quickly pinpoints you towards the coordinations. Closing your eyes to assist your meditation, you began to ascend to your destination. Visualizing the library in your mind, the scenery around you starts to shift and twist abruptly without haste. In mere moments you navigated through the surrounding area at tremendous speeds. Flashes of the scenery passing you by while you continue to maintain a steadfast focus to the library.

Arriving with a dramatic oomph, you feel yourself reaching your destination. If you weren’t an astral projection the trip would’ve left you feeling whiplashed and motion sick from how fast you were moving. Slowly opening up your eyes you scan around to confirm your suspicions. To which you see countless bookshelves and different columns spread throughout the area. It was exactly how the visions in your mind. Before you had a chance to get teary-eyed over the sentimental factory, you felt a sharp gaze looking deep into your very being from behind.

Turning around to see who it was, you only notice that there was nobody there. But that feeling quickly persists throughout the library.

Also, I want to throw out this disclaimer. This is primarily based around the ATLA side of the Avatar universe. While I'll be incorporating things outside of it such as the comics or Korra's series, I will only take things that don't contradict the original series.

This is clearly AU but I like to keep to the themes and dynamics of the original as much as possible. So you won't see things like Vaatu and Raava (Or at least in their incarnation style in Korra) or how the original avatar came to being.

>100, 41

Slightly nerved by this pending premonition, you take a brief moment to reflect on your objective. Finding the library was your top priority, to which you ended up succeeding in. Now what? You were so gunho about finding the place that you overlooked what exactly you planned on doing once you got here. This wasn’t anything new to you given your impulsive and at times reckless behavior. Being spontaneous and random certainly carried a lot of pros and cons as evidence by your current endeavor.

Choosing to not worry about it, you decide to invest in the act of opportunism. Surely by traveling through these large halls of books would jog something inside. If not that, then at least finding something nice to read would make up for it. Cementing your course of action you begin to casually stroll through the walkway. Though gliding would be more accurate by your crisp and smooth levitation. Traveling at faster speeds than you normally mustered, you quickly navigate through the many hallways of books.

Taking in all the various literature made you feel small and insignificant. While not in the demeaning sort of way, it certainly felt overwhelming to you. Almost smothering you with a somewhat suffocating sensation. But try as you navigate throughout the area, not a single trace of scenery was enough to jog any noteworthy memories. The closest you got was brief flashes which were all fuzzy and hard to interpret. Leaving you rather frustrated over the uncertainty. Your heart knew this place was important to you but your mind just couldn’t piece it together.

Reluctantly admitting defeat over your frustration, you pull yourself from your wandering to see where you ended up. Be it good luck or sharp intuition, you found yourself having ended up in a private chamber. While the entirety of the library was well kept despite its ancient appearance, this room, in particular, was depicted even older than that. The books and scrolls in the room were practically vacuum-sealed shut as they look like they haven’t been touched in ages.

Picking up one of these books you took a glimpse at the cover. Glazing your eyes sharply you saw that the book was that of a lion turtle symbol. Keeping it closely secured in your armpit, you went back to traversing through the secret room. Leading yourself towards what you see was a gigantic book spread across an even larger table in a monastery like a shrine. Quickly moving over you glance at the back of the book. Reading the title of the book alerted you that this was the Grand Book of Bending. Immediately, your eyes begin to sparkle.

Now you weren’t the sharpest tool in the shed but even you could tell right from a glance just how important this giant book is. From a single glance, you see it holds all the secrets there was to the bending arts. Between the book’s ancient fabric to the archaic writing, it only further validated that this was the genuine article. With such an important repertoire of information in front of you, it was questionable if you could read all of it. Much less absorb and retain all its vast knowledge.

Nevertheless, you begin to take tender care turning the pages, one by one. You weren’t one to give up when met with a challenge. If the ordeals you underwent didn’t break you, then neither would the task of memorizing and learning everything this book had to offer. With a time limit that you have no idea of knowing, you didn’t let yourself get sloppy. Sure, you prioritize in finding any information in regards to Earthbending and/or Energybending over what you skimmed. That didn’t stop you from apply good old honest learning when you can.

To which you found yourself spending what you can only assume was roughly two weeks reading the entirety of the giant book. Accumulating all that vast knowledge wasn’t easy. In fact, thoroughly reading the whole entirety of the book left you with quite a splitting headache. Or at least you sure it would if you weren’t currently spiritual. It seems that being in astral projection meant that you didn’t need any form of nourishment or rest. The only thing needed being concertation and surprisingly enough you’re in a good, secured location to maintain it.

In any case, now the entirety of the bending knowledge and history was stored within your cranium. Honestly, being met with such enriching information from the origin of bending to the smallest of applications made you start to question the true merits. It was going to take a long time really perceiving the full gravity of the situation. Understandably considering how much you had to cram inside of you. But from you can piece together, energy bending, or known by its true name, Quintessence, was the original source of bending.
>>
>>4306262

Before the time of the four nations or even the era before the avatar, benders bent the energy within themselves. The capabilities of the mystical art weren’t well understood due to its perilous nature and ancient lineage. That said, it was an art that holds boundless potential, restricted by imagination and one’s own essence. The sole exception was bending the energies of others but that in itself came with even greater danger than merely bending one’s own energies came with. It requires one’s spirit unbendable or they will suffer adverse side effects, including that of corruption. But the worst of all was the threat of destruction of one’s own soul.

Originating from the ancient lion turtles and the spirits, many creatures including that of humans managed to eventually learn the inner workings of the legendary bending art. Referred to as chi, one’s own skill of harnessing their energy provided a high skill ceiling with the potential of harm if done incorrectly or carelessly. Thus, gradually the art began to slowly fade as many try to rectify the dangers through various means. Only after constant abuse and misuse of the bending art that the Lion Turtles took themselves to protect humanity, including from themselves.

Ultimately, they chose to use the art to discover another method, the four classic elements. Suppressing the knowledge of Energybending, while still proving the humans a means to defend themselves against the roaming spirits who held higher affinity towards the art. These bending arts were far more safer and practical for the common individual. So naturally, when humans discovered them from their environment and the animals who got the jump on establishing the bending arts, their affinity swayed over to utilizing the arts. A sentiment that the lion turtles agreed wholeheartedly.

In spite of this, the usage of chi didn’t completely fade away from the minds of others. Bending the four elements still revolved around “summoning energy or chi in your body" and extending that energy outside your body which then turns into a form of elemental bending. And humans did manage to engineer a lesser degree of Energybending’s most dangerous application, removing one’s bending. Though in this case chi blocking was self-explanatory in why it wasn’t anywhere near as frightening as the inspiration.

Knowing this fact made you appreciate the mystical art in your arsenal while becoming that much more aware of its dangers. It wasn’t something that was to be taken lightly, but if limited to just your own energy, the danger would be far less disastrous than bending the energy of others. Before you had time to reflect further on the entire history of bending, a cold chill starts to creep itself from the back of your spine. Causing you to shiver instinctively from the thousand-yard stare that was permeating from the chamber.

“I take it you finally finished reading that giant book you spent the last two weeks reading?” A booming yet intellectual voice echoes across the halls. Even with the distance between you, you felt a hawk’s piercing gaze staring cautiously in continuous motion. From the vibe you got from the mysterious presence, it was the same one that you sensed since the beginning.

“If you’re done being a deer in the headlights, you can come outside and chat like civil people. Instead of just sneaking around having a self-appointed tour of the Spirit Library. If you just announced yourself properly, one of my foxy attendants could’ve helped navigate you through your surroundings. Awkward and impulsive as I’ve remembered.” The voice lectures you followed by a long sigh. Despite the presence, it acted like a disappointed grandfather figure than the guardian of the library.

>Try to visualize yourself back to your body in order to flee

Something I found during my spar time that actually correlates nicely with the inner workings of bending, especially going off the original interpretation from the lion turtle.

As for overall knowledge, except for metal bending, which hasn't been invented yet, you know all there is to bending. From its lore and enriching history to its different styles and applications.

Choosing to read the entire thing and not solely skip to the martial art portion worked out in your favor more than you can know.

“Don’t you mean a cat-deer in the torchlight right?” You respond, lightly scratching your head in confusion.

“If I didn’t know who you are I’d be inclined to call you a smartass.” Another brief yet low sigh exclaims from the guardian. “But yes, that’s precisely what I meant. But you got the purpose of the idiom so the impact remains. Now, are you coming out or not?”

“You’re right, I’m sorry. Just give me a second.” You reprimanded yourself at nearly forgetting your manners. You did come here unannounced and judging from the mysterious entity’s tone, it wasn’t as if he concluded enacting violence towards you. If anything, you were surprised by how patient the voice was despite everything. Thus, causing you to be rather curious on the matter. “Also where am I and who are you?”

Pausing abruptly for a short bit, the voice finally decides to answer in a calm and polite tone. Albeit rather stern, further painting the voice as some sort of watchful grandparent rather than a guardian. “I believe I already mention prior that this is the spirit library. An enormous library dedicated to serving as an archive of the world’s knowledge and preserving it throughout the ages. This study also doubles as a symbol of my crown achievements. My very pride itself, if I may explain further. As for whom I am, I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things.“ The imposing presence explains, holding back most of its boastful charm.

“Hmm, you must be one ancient and powerful spirit in that case. But isn’t ten thousand things...limiting ?”

“It’s another expression. In simple terms, I’m all-knowing. And ten thousand things means all of creation. My domain spreads throughout the physical and spiritual realms as I’m knowledge incarnate. “

Tilting your head a bit and placing your hand against your chin, a stroke of lighting quickly appears as you soon point at the voice. “So you’re a pantomath then.” You exclaim with a wide smile, feeling immensely proud at picturing the type of person the host was.

“I’d accepted philomath or even a polymath as an alternative, but good enough I suppose.” The voice muses, showing a mixture of genuine acceptance at the acquisition and choice of words, with a hint of mild melancholy as it contemplates the choices that lead to this encounter.

Perhaps it was due to the stranger’s voice or the way he spoke but something about it felt...oddly familiar to you. Being one who typically follows their intuition, you decide to meet with whoever was requesting an audience with you. Worst came to worst were your astral projection being dispelled and your consciousness being sent back to your body. But at that point, you already learned everything there is about bending from the grand book. Thus you were feeling rather confident in lieu of your current predicament.

Making your way out of the chambers and down the hall returns you to the nexus center-point of the vast ancient library. Standing at the bridge appears to be a huge black-and-white barn owl. Aside from its giant size, it didn’t look any different from the actual animal. Yet almost immediately you could sense a powerful presence emitting from the owl. To have such a stern, wise aura only illustrates the sage-like qualities this ancient spirit carries. Still, being around the owl only further nags that familiar feeling at you.

“I’m here. I’m deeply sorry for barging in like this. See, I’ve been having these weird flashes lately. You might think it’s weird, but I strongly feel like I’ve been here. Not like once, but many times actually. Especially given how I’d manage to navigate my way through this vast library.” As you questioned Wan Shi Tong, a sharp sensation causes you to clutch your chest tightly. Unnerving you slightly at the uncertainty of the cause or the reason from the familiarity.

“That’s because you have. Only once did you come to these lands physically, but from the moment you were born you frequently manifests down these halls. Just like how you appear now. “ Briefly pausing at the seems, Wan Shi Tong slowly hunches over to get a better view of your current appearance. Causing the spirit to glimpse back at the sight of a small child sprouting two large buns, reassuring him of the resemblance upon gazing at the hyperactively absent-minded nature. “Course the last time I’d saw you, you were still a shrimp. Someone still wet behind the ears who didn’t know even the simplest of things. Yet you always asked question after questions, so much in fact I’d seriously wonder if you weren’t an iguana parrot in disguise with how often you say why. Honestly, having you around was a real nuisance.”

Slowly raising your finger to question the giant owl, you felt another flash correlating to your past starting to reemerge upon listening to the small biography of yourself. As Wan Shi Tong declared, you did in fact came to these lands on many occasions. Just like that of previously, your dreams was that of spending time in the Spirit Library. Unknowing to you that they weren’t dreams and in fact, in your early childhood, you were energybending in your sleep. Straight at the age of three, your first act was astral projection. Abet you had help from a relatively reluctant source.
>>
>>4307388

Reluctant at having a human in the library, Wan Shi Tong showed only the bare minimum in interaction and guidance. The overall plight of the spirits took priority over personal feelings, it wasn’t exactly easy for someone who’s strongly indifferent to humans commit. Time has proven to him on plenty of occasions that humans were conceited and selfish. Choosing to seek knowledge only if it means getting the jump on other humans. Such acts went against Wan Shi Tong’s ultimate goal, the understanding, and betterment of oneself so that the actions of the past may never be repeated.

So how was someone so aloof to humans was to be expected to babysit a human. Even if it was for the sake of returning balance to the world, Wan Shi Tong still couldn’t completely forgo his prejudices. In spite of this, there was something about you that managed to jive with the grumpy owl. Each time you came to the library bits of the immense anger and resentment Wan Shi carried began to dissipate. He couldn’t bring himself to feel anything but pity from the supposed person chosen to undo the wrought of Sozin’s actions. If this was the will of the planetary spirit, the very same being that resides in the avatar, then Wan Shi Tong strongly believed that the restoration process was doomed to fail.

Originally committed to keeping his distance and relying upon all manner of needs to the foxy attendants, over time Wan Shi Tong took a more active role. His pride in his intelligence and as a scholar couldn’t let such an ignorant child keep meandering without any appreciation for knowledge. Therefore, the keen owl began teaching you in order to get you out of the state of illiteracy. His goal was to teach you just enough so you can actually read the books and appreciate the position you’re in. But even the all-knowing Wan Shi Tong didn’t come to expect that he would come to appreciate and value you in the process.

From reading childhood story to teaching about nature, Wan Shi Tong took no expense in using all manner of instructing from the vast collection of knowledge to educate the would-be energybender. By doing so, however, Wan Shi Tong eventually came to rediscover exactly why he built the library and made it open for the public instead of now hoarding it to himself. Surely such sentimental tactics must have been a ploy by the Avatar Spirit to get him to reconnect to humanity and reembrace them, faults and all. Even knowing all of this and trying to stubbornly wedge himself to his views, but it was fall for naught.
>>
>>4307418

In the end, Wan Shi Tong’s seemingly unbreakable and adamant resolve was bent by the pure heart of his little scholar. All the same, it was you who found solace in the library. The reason why currently escaped you, but you know spending your time here with all the spirits that came and Wan Shi Tong himself brought immense joy to you. To you, the spirits were more of your family than your actual blood ties. Knowing this now, quickly brought you to tears as the dreams all start to come flooding back.

Energybending or Quintessence as it's truly called in simple terms is the bending of the energy that governs life. Commonly associated with Bioenergy and Spirit energy, it's also that of cosmic energy. Though the latter is probably the hardest to influence and manipulate.

It's highly based around the concepts of the 5th element Aether. As for what you can do, here's a list of potential skills with energy bending.

Starting with the obvious that the shows demonstrate.

>Acquiring Information & Memories from others through touch
>Bending another's energy to grant, modify, remove, and/or restore another's bending.
>Astral Projection/Spiritual Avatar manifestation
>Energy Redirection & Deflection
>Energy Projection (Wave, Beams, Pulses, etc)

Now to dive into what I'll be throwing based on what we know throughout the mediums and speculations.

>Energy/Chi Absorption
>Energy Barriers
>Energy Tracking (Think how Aang found Appa and the gang in the foggy swamp or how Pathik sensed Aang)
>Healing (Including undoing physical deformations/alterations done by spirits)
>True Spiritbending (Most need their default bending to serve as a medium in order to attempt a similar aspect, Energybenders directly bend the energy in spirits)
>Energy/Chi Sensing (Most need their default bending to serve as a medium, unlike energybenders)
>Emotion & Intent Reading
>Energy Bolts, Emission & Discharges
>Energy Strikes

Going to be breaking up the advanced/master stuff in the next post. Bending another's energy is obviously an expert/master level.

Do we have a persona for our martial arts fights?
>>
>>4308055

Things like intangibility can't be done with the physical body, less you were the avatar or was connected to massive repertoires of energy like harmonic convergence. But a smaller scale of reaching one's peak is generally done through the transition of the seasons due to the release of natural spiritual energy at the time.

Aside from a bender's spirit needing to be unbendable/unbreakable, one must also need to maintain focus as disorientation, doubts, uncertainty, any form of distraction can weaken and/or disrupt the energy flow. With the worst being unable to manifest the bending arts accordingly until your at a capable state again. The emotional state can also be a factor as it can augment or diminish an energybender's capabilities depending on their state of mind.

Balance is an important factor as any imbalances can also affect your bending and cause adverse side-effects at worse. That's why you need to remain pure of heart, regardless if its pure good or pure evil, there cannot be any signs of confusion or hesitation in your heart.

On that note, the imbalance of energy is something you can pick up and what also affects you. Specifically the spiritual energy of the planet and the balance between the physical and spiritual realms. Depending on your shift in nature decides how will it affect you. If your nature gravity towards darkness, then the changes towards the light weakens you and darkness empowers you. Vice versa. Only true masters keep a balance between the duality to achieve energybending's true potential, so it's a double-edged sword for them.

Astral/Spiritual Protection may grant you an easier usage of Energybending abilities since unless one physically travels to the spirit realm, Energybending is the only bending art that can be used in the realm. That said, the connection to your body with your spirit means that you'll still feel anything that happens to your spiritual form. How much you can take is tied to your strength of will, but even that has its limits as the physical form can only take so much before collapsing completely. Thus, if you die as a spirit, your body dies as well.

When using one's energy as the source, generally one must charge up their energy and redirect it in smooth, fluid motion before applying the respective effect(s). So it can be seen as slower than most of the other bending arts in exchange for its tremendous power. It can be alleviated through proficiency and/or repetition but one must never be careless and rush through performance. The slightest misstep can cause the art to backfire on the user and produce the appropriate backlash upon them. Since the user is using their energy, they have a finite resource to work with. It can recover in time or obtaining nourishments, but excessive usage can put themselves at great risk.

Normally the "Persona/Jojo" ish kind of application is only Avatar exclusive since they're a hybrid between a human and a spirit, but since the gravity of the situation caused by Sozin's war campaign and the Aang's reluctance towards fulfilling his duties as the avatar prior to getting sealed in a block of ice, The spirits came to in agreement to making a "stand-in" repair the damage done to the world and get everything back on track. The Planetary Forces aka the Avatar Spirit agreed to the notion, but it still took a hundred years for all the spirits to be in agreement and pool the necessary resources to pull something of this accord without harmonic convergence.

You could see it as my take towards the "Dark Avatar" motif without it being completely stupid or betraying the original themes of the Avatar.

As to martial prowess, Energybending takes from, since neither show actually takes a direct style aside from Dim Mak to an extent given they were using a bunch of Chinese martial art pieces of literature for it, I decided to base the motions of it on Wing Chun Kuen, Bak Mei Pai and Chin Na with a sprinkling of Shaolin Kung Fu.

While Chi Blocking is more a mix of Kyusho Jitsu and Dim Mak

>>4307931

You'll encounter them at some point, being an energybender means you can see spirits much like Iroh and perceive those who have been marked by them even if they're not clear as day. Energybending and Spirits go hand and hand.

You do have a "persona" stage name. I can come up with identity if need be, but I'm more than willing to let you guys comprise it yourself. So discuss it among yourselves on who you want to be in the arena.

Supporting this. But I guess this means we're not secretive about our energybending. Cause I was thinking of masking it as a condition that makes us more inclined to make us a static generator. But with people like combustion man they probably just call us a freak

“That said, you were always earnest in everything you say or did. Not once did you tell any lies nor let your actions become that of mere fiction. This feat is rarely heard of, and even rarer demonstrated. A small, honest soul carrying a heart that is pure. Filled with sincerity and integrity. Such balance in a person, especially that of a human is truly something I’d thought I would never see...again.” Wan Shi Tong muses, his voice softening up just a tad upon finishing his reflection.

Before Wai Shi Tong continues with his evaluation of your character, you immediately dash forward in pure impulse. In one quick move, you attempt to hug the giant owl in an act of affection and revelation. Now Wai Shi Tong could easily dodge your clumsy motions by a simple shuffle to the side, invoking you to stumble onto the ground. For some reason that eludes even him, he chose to embrace the hug rather than evading it. Doing this put you face forward into the feather quilt, surprising you at just how soft and warm it was.

“...Thank you” You muttered, burying your face deep into Wan Shi Tong’s feathers. You weren’t sure if your astral projection was actually producing tears or not. But you certainly felt like crying after remembering something as important as this.

“...Judging by your tone and your show of affection, I can only deduce...that you remembered our time here.” Wai Shi Tong asks, keeping calm if not somewhat less stoic approach than previously. Having deduced from his time quietly observing you that his hypothesis as to why you haven’t appeared in recent years was misplaced from his original guess. As a result, the immense owl chose to be more commiserate over just solicitous.

Quietly nodding your head in response, you continue your hug. Despite the well of emotions, you’re still Lien Dai-mon. Champion pro bender. Thus, like a stubborn child, you hid your tears from the all-knowing spirit, no matter how ridiculous such an act was. Holding on to him long enough to get it out of your system, you remove your arms from the giant avian. Lightly fixing his feathers, praying to yourself you didn’t leave anything besides tears, a light blush follows by flustering emotions held your tongue.

Struggling to muster the right words to say, slowly you curl your pronounced lips in a warm smile. “Thanks, for showing me the library, Wan Shi Tong. It's really cool." Reaching from your side you manage to pull out the lion turtle book, planning on handing it back to the librarian. Curiosity motivated you to want to take a peak, but manners came first.

Seeing this act of respect and care causes Wan Shi Tong to lift his right-wing as an act to dismiss you need to hand him the book.

“So you found the Lion Turtle’s guide to Chi and its associates. Very helpful for those looking to balance their spirituality and regulate their vitality when using energybending. Course I would also recommend reading the way of the Avatar Spirit to better understand the fundamentals and come to appreciate the enriching history of the cosmic forces that reside on the planet.” Wan Shi Tong suggests, moving his left wing to reveal the very book in question before handing it to you.

Should we check on ours body to make sure we still alive?
>>
>>4309230
That is a good question. How would we even know if we were dying or not? WHat if week have passed? Or what if weeks passed in the spirit realm while only a few seconds passed in the mortal world? Is there time dilutions involved?
>>
>>4309230

You can make a roll to check if you like.

>>4309333

Time flows differently in the spirit realm than it does in the real world. The sole exception is realms that are deeply rooted in the physical or strong enough spirits choosing to alter the flow of time in said space. As for how you would know if you're dying or not, you can still feel the connection to your body, so any harm that come to it would naturally alert you and cause your astral form to break apart.

Sorry for the delays, I been working on generally summarizing the avatar story and explaining its lore while acknowledging certain factors like Mike & Bryan originally wanting to include Avatar Wan in the original story but not having any time. While at the same time making sure those elements don't betray the original establishment. That includes going with the original explanation of the Avatar Spirit being an incarnation of the planet in human form. But I am writing as we speak.

On that note, I ended up finding the fabled bible that shares some interesting stuff to take note of.

Silently nodding to Wan Shi Tong, you take the book from his feathered wing. Quickly sitting down with the book in hand, you began reading the Way of the Avatar Spirit. Starting with the basics, you carefully intake the knowledge recorded in the carefully preserved pages. A process that even with speed reading took a relatively long time to read through all of it. But like the ancient librarian mentioned, it carried a fountain of information. Information about the lore and story that you begin to come to appreciate with every page you read.

From what you can tell, the Avatar is a being that reincarnates themselves through the centuries. Starting from the next bending cycle from its previous life. While they appear and in functionality a human, the Avatar was far more than what meets the eye. Inside of them resides phenomenal power and supernatural refinery that far exceeds that of normal humans. The very same power that connects to the cosmic forces of the universe, not unlike the very zenith of energybending in its purest form. All due to being intermediary between an all-powerful spirit and a living human being.

In the beginning, the planetary forces that maintain the balance and stability within the planet manifest an avatar. An all-powerful deity is specifically known as the Avatar Spirit. The Avatar Spirit served as the sole guardian of the physical and spiritual worlds, serving as the bridge and mediator. Contrary to popular belief, the spirit world and the physical world was, in fact, one and the same. Two realms co-existing between one another, much like an object and its shadow. They are two sides of the same coin, both existing as an extension of nature.

These two spatial planes co-exist in harmony in its infancy. Having no barriers between the two worlds, allowing free passage for anyone regardless of spirituality or general awareness. During this time everything was peaceful. But as life gradually improves, the simplicity of the peaceful time began to collapse. Humans and spirits began to make conflict with one another as the evolution of humanity accelerated. With the development of humans accelerating with no sign of stopping, many spirits were conflicted about how things should be handled. Especially with the fear of being overrun from their place as the dominant force in the world lying on the horizon.
>>
>>4315495

Without the guide of the original spirit of balance and harmony known as Gaara, many spirits were left in disarray. The two oldest spirits, of which made up the two halves of the original spirit, found themselves locked in a stalemate over the progression of humanity. The spirit of light and order Raava wanted to establish a world order that would give humans the means to establish civilization and prosperity. While the spirit of darkness and chaos Vaatu wanted no part in guiding humanity. Much like all things, Vaatu believed humanity should fend and govern themselves, and their actions, be them good or bad will be left to fate to decide.

Both sides acknowledge that neither viewpoint was directly the right way to handle the new element that was humans. But these viewpoints that can be boiled down to anarchy vs authority, both spirit strongly stood firmly in their ideals. Not one would give weight to swaying over to the other side. Thus after a long, grueling debate between the two spirits, it ultimately came to a compromise to house humans under the guidance of the Lion Turtles. Until the time humans are capable of truly become self-sufficient in the world, they would keep themselves reign in within the safety of the guardians.

As humanity stationed their society on the lion turtles, gradually carving a way through the unknown, it often came with mixed results. Eventually, human society would grow too vast and the curiosity of humanity strive them to leave the safety of the lion turtles to seek out the lands. Establishing a new home for humans as they find their place in the world. To allow humans to protect themselves, the lion turtles taught humans the ability of energybending. To this day it was arguable if such a thing was really the right thing. But a balance needed to be made.

Over time as humanity gradually make their mark on the world, slowly integrating themselves with nature, it was at this time the Avatar Spirit starts to curiously watch humans. Intrigued by the boundless potential and innate qualities of humanity, the Avatar Spirit made for a shocking decision. Upon humanity reaching the top of the food chain and grown enough in society, the Avatar Spirit chose to give up their immortality and position as an all-powerful spirit. Serving as the first spirit to fully integrate themselves with mankind.

Choosing this path naturally brought a lot of implications and problems. In the end, it was a necessary means for the Avatar Spirit to truly come to terms with humanity. In all of their years of quiet observation, it didn’t net them the true understanding they deeply desired. Without such understanding, it was hard to even for the Avatar Spirit to truly empathize with humans, strengthening the desire to protect and nurture them accordingly. A sentiment that was common with many of the spirits, for better or worse.
>>
>>4315499

Foregoing their once all-powerful form, the Avatar Spirit underwent the reincarnation cycle into that of a human. Doing so allows the cosmic deity to become attach to humanity and experience everything that they have to offer. From human emotion to the propensity for human error, it provided filling the holes that would otherwise keep the avatar spirit from its objectives. This level of self-awareness brought forth new possibilities not foreign even by spirit kind. Opening up the door to a new perspective which life the Avatar reincarnates into. That said, the avatar spirit’s sole duty to the world remains as diligent as ever. Thus it created a new duality.

On one side was the supreme spiritual being that was an extension of nature itself, tasked of bridging the two realms together. On the other side lies the duty of being human and remaining as such to protect and maintain the balance of the physical world. As a result, factors such as enlightenment and spiritual detachment was virtually impossible for the Avatar. Doing so would go against everything they stand for and collapsing the mysticism entity that they represent. Thus their full potential as a supernatural human was often limited, keeping them from reaching the same exact level of cosmic forces that the eldest spirits like Raava and Vaatu achieved.

Nevertheless, the Avatar Spirit, now a physical manifestation of the planet’s spirit incarnated in human form remain ever diligent in its job of maintaining balance and harmony. Be it between the bridges of the two worlds, to the social balance of the soon created four nations. The Avatar became a symbol that carried great power but it came great responsibility. For that reason, the Avatar was naturally attuned to nature in all of its forms, in any extremity. Including the “spirits” residing in nature (i.e. trees, rivers, mountains, etc) and its wildlife. As such, it allowed them to bend and master the four elements simultaneously, for they are molded by the elements much like the seasons they govern.

Whereas the concept is normally impossible for a regular human to pull off even with the power of energybending. The closest one could achieve is switching their innate bending to one of the four types, but such complex art is only possible for natural prodigies, especially the true ones. Adding on to the already hard skill floor, it added the importance of meeting someone who could reach the ceiling. Even then, an energybender can only do so much, especially compared to the Avatar, even when reaching enlightenment. The only method that could come close to the possibility is the abnormal union between a human and a spirit. Artificially creating a faux avatar.
>>
>>4315501

However, such a scenario while not impossible, the possibility of it was highly improbably. The sole exception was when the world’s balance has been greatly threatened. Reading all of this and the natural functions/capabilities of the Avatar opened your mind on the true importance of the spirit bridge but also opens up the deeper meaning within bending itself. Rather than it being a mere form of combat, it was both a means to connect with nature as it was representing spirituality and culture. And how the Avatar ties it all together, cementing its placement to the world. Simultaneously highlighting why the Avatar currently “missing” is such a big deal.

Having finished the book and having a brand new insight into how everything is connected, you made your way to reading the second book. The second book unsurprisingly dived upon the concept of enlightenment and spiritual detachment. As well as thoroughly explain the mysticism and biological aspects that govern the essence within all things. Such connections like chakra, chi, the biological networks of pressure points & meridians, and even things such as qigong or breathing techniques played such extraordinary importance towards not just the bending arts, but everyday life. And by knowing this ofter greater improvements.

However, knowing and doing was to vastly different things. For you, it was probably better to find an actual guru or a lion turtle for example to better breakdown the philosophy and critical thinking required to embody the teachings to their utmost degree. That said, there was enough guidance for someone of your caliber to at least self-taught yourself enough to progress at a reasonable pace. For better or worse. Although, there was the possibility of asking Wan Shi Tong. Yet your conscience knew better as you more than felt you were pushing your limits with all that he has done for you so far.

Eventually, after what seems like forever you find yourself finishing the second book. Only after giving yourself enough time to truly commit all of the knowledge to memory, you quickly slump back down towards the floor with a loud thud. It was as if your whole world was flipped upside down, leaving you more confused than ever on where you fall into all of this. It is at this point it finally dwelled upon you to check up on your physical form. With a quick pat-down through your body, you pushed your awareness back to the physical realm.

>Spiritual Meditation and Awareness unlocked

Form what you can tell, your body was still lying safely in exactly where you left it. Underneath the waterfall. Somehow without anyone showing you how your body underwent a hibernated state. Absorbing the nutrients needed through an energybending form of photosynthesis. Thus keeping yourself alive while your spirit remains in the spirit realm. You feel like if you really train yourself, or push yourself to your current limits, you could achieve maintaining awareness and retain the communication and other cognitive functions in this state. Maybe even run on autopilot as a defense mechanism.

Relieved to know that by all intended purposes that you weren’t dead, you let out a large sigh of relief. Mildly confusing the spirit foxes who only now finally chose to appear while Wan Shi Tong quietly gave you your space. He was still around but for a spirit that never needs to blink, having such watchful eyes constantly looking upon you would disrupt your deep concertation. And Gaavra forbid he knew just how much concertation you needed to retain the fountain of knowledge at your fingertips.

And finished, unfortunately, this was as far as I could've condensed it while retaining narrative, but not explaining too much and sucking the fun out of the mysticism of the lore. Or spending too much time treading through familiar territory.

And it only took 18 hours, still remaining in the "today" schedule since the day didn't fully end yet. But that's a weak argument and I don't want to make excuses.

Now having finished your evaluation over reading the two books, a goal starts to formulate around your head. Previously you didn’t have any focus or objective. Getting your memory back sounds like it would’ve been the natural if not the most important thing for objectives. But strangely enough, you didn’t really seek out those lost memories. It wasn’t like they were going to put food on the table. No, what mattered to you was surviving the days ahead. A simple yet equally practical outlook that kept you alive all this time. While simultaneously ensuring your strength as the sole drive moving forward.

You weren’t sure why exactly you were obsessed with strength. But like many things it made perfect sense to you in the grand scheme. Strength was an important factor for all things as natural selection too prominence overall. Especially factors such as survival of the fittest. You couldn’t deny that flaunting your strength and prowess made you feel proud. Why else would you partake in the underground fights? Even so, it was just a hobby, one of which you could easily quit at any time you wanted. So once again, you didn’t have any set goals to drive you forward. That is until now.

Finding the mysterious lion turtles was a goal worth pursuing. They are the original wielders of the primordial form of bending arts aka energybending. So in proximation, you owe everything to those noble, sacred creatures. But more than that you generally wanted to meet them. As well as show your gratitude by making them a meal. The first thing that came to mind was making a meat bun for them, that or a dumpling. Sure, making a one-ton dumpling for an enormous if not mountainous creature like a lion turtle could be considered crazy to the point of lunacy. But the challenge in itself what made it so charming to you.

With a goal set in mind, you began to set your eyes onto the spirit fox attendants. Gently waving your hand in a beaconing call, two of the spirit foxes came to your aid. Remembering your manners you greet the two creatures before handing them the books to return to their proper place. Having a strong feeling via eidetic memory that you wouldn’t need the book to remember what you learned here. Before they left, however, you quickly ask them to find you some books on cooking, as well as books on lion turtles. To which they ungrudgingly assisted your request in a timely manner. Leaving you to turn back to Wan Shi Tong.
>>
>>4320110

To thank him for what he has done for you you try to receipt as much information you can from the outside world that would be sufficient knowledge. As such a book began to manifest in light to your plight. Thinking about it as hard and concrete as possible you begin to fill the book on animal care and taming, especially that of eel hounds and badger moles. Accompanying it was a scroll containing the outside world’s lore of the avatar. Anything else just refused to come to your aid, much to your frustration. But knowing your attention was enough for the all-knowing spirit to take your current contributions without fuss. Penmanship could still use some work.

Following up on that, you then ask Wan Shi Tong about the Spirit Library. Specifically, if it was possible to arrive at this location in your mortal form. To which he told you such an act was possible but the journey is treacherous and perilous as you learn the location of the library. At the same time, Wan Shi Tong made you promise that if you were to come along that you wouldn’t bring anyone else with you. He may have a soft spot for you, but his views on humanity haven’t completely changed as of now. The sole exception if you were to find people exactly like you that he could judge properly and deem them worthy to enter.

Agreeing to this you kept the knowledge of your present a secret. After that, you went on to read as many cookbooks and lion turtle information to get a decisive read on them and their habitat. A process that would take almost as long as reading the giant book of bending since Wan Shi Tong had all that there was about cooking. Thus you find yourself turning your attention to the spirit foxes after finishing another book.

“Say, do you guys happen to know the avatar spirit?” You ask, picking up another book in the large stack of books.

Judging from the look on its face, it seems the spirit didn’t know how to speak but did its best to communicate through body language. Of which you easily decipher as the spirit fox gave them out. To your expectation, it seems the spirit fox did know the avatar spirit when it was still connected to the world as a spirit. Though they came across one of its many reincarnations, the interactions were brief and often rare. The latest one, in particular, came from the Air Nomad Yangchen. They were rather fond of that avatar in particular.
