December 20th, New York City, Headquarters of the United Nations.
“So that concludes the final UN Department personnel delegation-”
“Sorry one last thing, the matter of the UNAU?”

Collective sighs can be heard around the room followed by mumbles of “I can't believe they got approval for this” and “waste of time and money”
“Yes Right, The UNAU, the newest addition to the investigation department, the United Nations Anomaly Unit, A Department lead has not been appointed yet, I'll pass out the profiles of our top candidates for you to look over before we take a vote.”

“Gah and we were just going to break for lunch, my votes for the profile on the top of the pile after all what does it matter.”

“Please this will only take a few minutes of your time.”

Around the table folders containing the profiles are passed out to the hosts of the table while grumbling continues amongst the shuffling of papers.

Inside the folder contain the following profiles.

Welcome to X-com Quest! This is be a quest based on the development of the titular organization X-com from its foundational years up to and through the alien invasion.
This will be following a similar path to the X-com Ufo Defense mod X-files where we will begin small tackling cults and small creatures and fighting for every cent of our budget. This will be a strategy focused game where most of the focus is in the geoscape rather then individual battles.

As this first vote is very important I will be giving it 12 hours for a vote.

Questions : What year is it? Level of technology? What are the odds of dying due to one unlucky roll?
>>
>>4422549

I vote Jennifer for my first choice. Barring that Aaron Bennings because we will need the research bonus and possible third action.

>>4422559

1996 and normal tech of that year. Annoyed that somehow I failed to enter that before december 20th like I intended. Game will officallu start for your char jan 1 1997.

You will die of an unlucky roll if you decide to be boots on the ground, pilot and air craft or are actively being assasinated. You can reasonably avoid all of these.

Eh what the hell, switching my vote to Milo Carlin too. We'll need to put together a mighty team of cutthroats, mad scientists, and conspiracy nuts to succeed.

I've always seen XCOM as a game with more political intrigue, even if the game focuses on the combat scenarios.

Being a competent schemer and political swindler while the world is under siege is too good to pass up
>>

will this involved lewding the snake women
>>

I like being a leader on the front lines.

>>4422575
Have you ever played xenonauts OP? I liked its aesthetics.
>>
>>4422547
>#Retired Russian Officer - Alexi Orlov (68)
Sure the penalty with the US sucks but we can fix that with our old man charm
>>
>>4422610
I did, i liked its aesthetics and world building. Hated how the ufo was on the ground tho couldnt breach it at all and aliens could shoot through the front door half the time. I really hope xenonauts 2 is better.

Adding air combat was really nice tho. Almost makes up for the ground ufos almost.

Alexi Orlov is a callback to it, April 23 1958 is the date of the iceland incident.
>>
>>4422543
>#Civil Servant - Milo Carlin
X-Com-Files style leadership I see!
>>
>>4422619

The air combat for xenonauts was perfect. so was the lead scientist complaining about the engineering team all the time, and the lead engineer completely ignoring it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-J8146ed4M cool music too.
>>
>>4422619
Nice reference to the Iceland incident. Yeah the UFO assaults were annoying. Xenonauts 2 should be good I believe, at least from the dev diaries they seem to have listened to most of the complaints.
>>
>>4422625
Reading all the lore is honestly my favorite part the character quips are always fun. Yeah its clear they spent a lot of time and love on the air Combat which led the ground to suffer.
>>
>>4422629
The lore is the best part indeed. You played with the XCE mod on right? The Lore+ mod had some additional art and some more pages of lore.
>>
>>4422632
Yeah played it when it first came out then recently a few months ago with XCE and X devison which was pretty fun.

>#SERI - Aaron Bennings PhD (33)

Those bonuses and potential 3rd action will help out if things are in the shitter. Plus, few family attachments is fewer avenues for coercion on our part. It's not just the ayys we need to watch out for, there be cultists and other gribblies afoot.
>>
>>4422680
another question, the actions on the character choice means how many actions we can personally take right? should the whole team be able to do as many action as they want?
>>
>>4422545
>#Civil Servant - Milo Carlin (27)
Political interference ho! I wonder how they will develop later, if they do.
>>
>>4422696

Yes for expample teams of agents have 1 action each and later special characters such as head of science or engineering will have the same as you actions or supporting teams

More people and teams working on the same thing raise chance of sucess. For example a small cult arrest may have a decent chance of sucess with 1 group of agents but a landed ufo will probably want 3 or more. A group of agents typically consist of 4 people.
>>
Gentlemen, allow me to convince you why the Russian Officer is the best choice:

He has ideal traits for an administrator, plus a bonus or extra action which we will need to use from time to time, and probably every time later in the game when things get tough.

“Huff, Huff, Huff”

Clarissa finally rounds the back of the munitions compound in her third lap

“I used to be able to do this in 15 minutes flat, this is what I get for taking more paper pushing positions, I must be losing my touch”
Wiping sweat from your brow with your tacky pink sweatbands, not exactly uniform but you had them since boot camp and you are not going to switch them yet; they had some luck in them.

With the sweat out of your eyes you look up to notice two unfamiliar faces staring back at you, men in black suits with stern eyes.
“Suits on at base at 5am? This is workout time you will sweat right through those.
Also I am going to need your Rank and Business this is a secure base and I don't exactly remember them authorizing any newcomers”

Simultaneously their hands went to the breast pocket of their suits pulling out wallets and flipping them open in one smooth motion.
“CIA.” One pushes forward a folder they were holding. You take it flipping it open to the first document. UN, TOP SECRET, YOUR EYES ONLY.

“You have one hour to pack and then we go to the airport.”
Frustration creeps into your voice “What's the assignment? I don't like going in blind.”

He looked at me like this was a ridiculous question. “You will be briefed when we get there; the documents have all the pertinent information.”
“Fine suit yourself; I’ll see you soon I don’t have much to pack”
True to your word, it took you less than 20 minutes to stuff the uniforms and a few belongings in a bag. A photo of your Husband, son and daughter was nestled nicely amongst clean socks. Best to keep it cushioned for safe keeping.
……………………………..

On the way you discovered you were headed to New York City, what for you still don’t know, whatever it is must be important enough for all this secrecy. Then you were loaded up into a plane and sent off without so much as a wave from the two that brought you here.
Sitting in the cargo space of a military airliner is a bit cramped but in a strange way it brings you comfort. You only wish you were the one in the cockpit, still it felt nice to be in the air. You take the time to give the document a full read; you're not really one to skim. The knuckle heads on high always sneak in something unpleasant down at the bottom that bites you in the ass later.

…………….
>>
>>4423827
As wheels hit tarmac, it still doesn't feel quite right. Head of the UNAU? Didn't even think the UN gave a shit about this sort of thing. So far you thought your research was just an excuse to justify the latest defense budget increase, at least that's how the commanding officers treated most of your briefings. In some ways it feels kind of gratifying that someone out there is starting to take this stuff seriously. But you know better than to truly get your hopes up.
You shiver thinking back to that, “Thing” you almost flew straight into back while you were on active service. Hell if it wasn't for your own memory you would be calling it a waste of time and money too. Plus your pay isn't that shabby either might be able to send both kids to one of those Ivy leagues if your husband can keep their grades up.
The budget for the department you will be working with is almost enough to think they might be serious about it too. Well almost, 200,000 a month might at least cover some onsite investigation instead of secondhand ramblings over the phone from drunkard farmers.

Heading out of the plane you come face to face with who you swear are the same two agents back at base, but you're confident they didn't come with you.
“Farthings please come with us”
One gets into the driver's seat of a car parked on the side of the runway while the other holds the door for you. Quite the gentleman, you haven't had a door opened for you since you were in your 20s.
……..
>>
>>4423830
You arrive at the UN Headquarters. It stands sleek and impressive and makes you think about the last time you shined your shoes. The agents quickly take you through security and lead you through the grand entry way and up the immaculate elevator you watch with a sigh as he pushes “B” and you head down. Looks like you won’t be getting windows with views.
The basement level is furnished with many small offices and greying walls that look like they haven’t been renovated since it was built. They lead you down some small hallways and into a small sparse room; it has a desk, chair, laptop and a single filing cabinet.
“This will be your office, your badge is on the desk and you have a Briefing at 2:00 about an hour from now. We look forward to your work Farthings” The two agents close the door and leave you alone in the small office, your office now. Sitting down in the chair a small plume of dust balloons around you, well at least the outside of the building is fancy. You look at the badge they took of you at the front desk, you look older but you still got the auburn eyes your husband calls cute and your direct reports whisper about as soulless when you demand the third day of overtime. Well at least they got a decent picture of you. Digging amongst the socks you brought you find your family and put them on the least dusty surface on the desk.
You hunt down the janitors closet and find yourself a feather duster

Well that was frustrating, looking at the clock you just noticed in your room its almost 2:00, time for that meeting.

….
>>
After hunting through the hallways to find the meeting room you eventually come across it. A small room oval table, several chairs, pretty normal all in all. You seem to be the first one here, taking a seat you wait. Over the next few minutes 5 people come into the room, punctuality doesn’t appear to be their priority, guess some things are done differently in the UN. They exchange pleasantries with each other and one of them begins.

“Hello and welcome Clarissa Farthings to the UN, I am Nathaniel Brooks head of the Investigations Department and on behalf of the department we are glad to have you with us. I expect you have had time to look over the dossier and know the scope of your role here. As the head of the newly minted UNAU you are expected to investigate any and all anomalous activity, report on it is anomalous, the source, and what threat this may pose. Once a month we will convene and review your work. Afterwards we will determine your budget and any changes the organization will undergo.”
A stern-faced woman in the back speaks up.
“Understand that while you are officially a branch of the investigations department we don't actually expect you to actually find much. Mostly this is a bureaucratic move to assuage some fears from some of the more paranoid minded around here, It may be best to assume your role is a temporary one but the budget so far has been approved so make the best of it that you can”
He clears his throat “Yes well you have your mission and your budget, I believe we have nothing else to discuss here. You will be receiving all the reports we currently have on anomalous activity; I wish you luck in your mission.”
The five stand and quickly leave scurrying off to the whisky under their desks you assume, leaving you alone to your thoughts.

..
>>
>>4423836
You find your way back to your office in short order, but the newly cleaned desk has been covered with boxes of paperwork along with the floor. While mentally you attempt to navigate a path to your chair something rams into you almost tripping you into the newly found paperwork bedding. You quickly look over to the cause and see a young man desperately trying to prevent a large box of paper from collapsing.

“Oh no sorry mam, sir. I didn't see you from behind the paper”

You quickly push the top of the stack back into a non-collapsing state before this becomes a much larger issue.

“Is this the last of it?”

“Oh no i'm afraid there is much more
“Great”

You carve a path through the paperwork and sit at your desk, time to get started.

>Budget 200k
>1 Personal Action
>You will roll 1d100 with any action and the action with the most votes will win. As you are middle aged any roll you make or an assist will be a best of three. Any action you take that you receive a bonus to comes with a +10. As your organization expands any action you do not make or assist will be a best of one. As a reminder you have Bonus to organization and military fitness, are able to pilot and have a penalty to finances.

>Each turn takes over the span of a week

#Start with hiring some help
>1 agent costs 40k to hire 10k to keep every month. Each agent takes their own action; they cannot do engineering or science actions. More agents on one action increase the progress and chance of success on any action. You can hire more than one a turn.
> When hiring you can also choose a preference of origin. Ex-military, Ex-police and paper pushers for example.
Well you have a budget and certainly aren't going to go through all this paperwork yourself.

Well you were always good at it, may as well begin.

#Do the bare minimum paperwork and get to know your office-mates.
Get schmoozing with the local politicians, you've never liked doing it.
#Investigate why your department was created.
This all happened rather quickly and with little to no notice. Did something happen to scare a few bureaucrats?

The first thing we need is people -- our mandate is pretty vague, but it seems so on purpose.

Two field agents are a good start, so let' searmark 80k for that. When possible, we'll need someone to deal with the minutiae.

#Do the bare minimum paperwork and get to know your office-mates.

Situational awareness is always a good idea.
>>
>>4423841

>#Start with hiring some help.

We should get two pers, one ex-police and one paper pusher. The ex-cop will be useful in providing knowledge about civilian officials and their process, while the paper pusher will be good for filling in the gaps we have in our organizational skills (Finance).

>#Do the bare minimum paperwork and get to know your office-mates. Get schmoozing with the local politicians, you've never liked doing it.

There's generally a lot of paperwork at any clearing in, and it's usually not a super high priority. May as well try and figure out what's expected of us in this role, and who to talk to in the organization about the stuff we find.

>One thing to keep in mind is that you only have 1 personal action. You took two this round and I allowed it as it's the first turn and the extra will help you get going but you won’t get an extra again.

After your first day you finally moved into your small but rather nice studio apartment and grabbed a chance to call your family, you miss them dearly as it has been months since you have seen them in person. They are excited at the possibility of flying to NY city to see you and your youngest Joshua exclaims that he can't wait to see the statue of liberty and he tells you about how he learned it was made of copper in school recently. They are coming to visit for 4 days in a month. Once you're done you tear up a bit but are happier overall living in NY makes family visits a lot easier than blacksites.

>#Start with hiring some help.I want 3 people. An Ex-military of the special forces type, preferably from Britain. Ex-Detective/Investigator to help us find cults and other such things. Also a paper pusher

Let's get started on building a team first, you might be good at sorting documents but the best part of leading your own organization is you don't have too. You untangle yourself from the now maze-like office and attempt to locate the HR department and start to jot down a few job descriptions in your head
.
First off someone to do the paperwork and read through the mountains of reports you are getting. Then you're going to need someone trained as a detective, someone who can actually go to these places and find out if they are bullshitting. Finally someone to do the fighting, If there is any.

At the HR office you meet Janice, an older woman with not a hair out of place. After some introductions she lets you know that you can only hire internally if you want a quick turnaround. Talent scouting and background checks can take months. They have you fill out what feels like as much paperwork as you tried to avoid by coming here, but by the end of the hour you have several job postings. Janice lets you know that you should be getting some interviews throughout the week.

After many hours spent getting every detail you could from your applicants these are the ones you considered passable.

>#Do the bare minimum paperwork and get to know your office-mates. Get schmoozing with the local politicians; you've never liked doing it.

> 96

In between interviewing applicants and doing paperwork; you can only organize Bigfoot sightings for so long without going mad; you decide to investigate who else ended up on the basement floor of the UN. So far all you have met is the higher ups, Janice and whoever the documents requisition guy was. Where else to start but the coffee machine, the watering hole of choice of all bureaucrats. You make your way to the breakroom and brew yourself a cup of decaf coffee for appearances sake. For the most part you never felt the need for caffeine since good exercise, water, and a sleep schedule which was scientifically sufficient to the minute kept an optimal amount of energy. Still you grab a cup of the hot liquid and find a chair to survey the office wildlife.

First to pop in is a mousy whip of a girl who you spotted earlier with a large bin of mail making deliveries to different desks. When she sits down with a cup of tea she just made, you make your introduction. Her name is Jane and is a bit shy but after the usual chatter of the weather and complaints of working in the basement you find out she has higher aspirations than delivering the mail. She wants to find some way to transfer into one of the translation departments and work as a sign language interpreter. She gets a small gleam in her eye when she tells you this and you feel like she has more spirit than you first thought.

Next to wander in a lanky fellow younger fellow with a suspiciously well fitted suit and immaculate shoes. You watch him as he makes his coffee with 3 shots of espresso milk and 5 spoons of sugar. With his back turned away from you, you think you see him pour something from a hip flask straight into it but you're not too sure from this angle. When he turns around and approaches you first introducing himself to you. His name is Milo Carlin and was just hired, as recently as you have and has been put in charge of the internal memos department. He cracks some jokes about it being entirely redundant since practically no one reads them but leading a department is something good to add to your resume regardless. He also knows about your newly formed department and informs you that he does not envy your position. His ambitions are far less modest than Jane’s, He smells like money, and faintly like whiskey.
>>
>>4425200

Like grazing gazelles the rest file in for lunch and you introduce yourself to the basement office community. It appears much of the departments down here are the forgotten or neglected positions within the UN, turns out there are many boring parts of running a massive international organization.. Many of them want to hear more about what qualifies as an Anomaly anyways. You give them the bare minimum and most boring parts of it. You get invited for Friday afternoon drinks which you politely decline for this week as you plan on just focusing on getting your department together this first week. Overall you feel accustomed to your new co-workers and think you have made a proper introduction.

Elias: Start working through the paperwork.
Harris and Mpho: Investigate why your department was created.

Personal Action: Pound out that paperwork with Elias, so that there's a sizable dent in it when Harris and Mpho get back to us.

Having our investigators get their teeth into a simpler assignment is good, and if we get ahead of it, the paper pusher can keep up when the field work comes in and there's more of it down the pipe.

To the merit of all of them they made it to the 8am interview time slot well put together and not a minute late. After meeting all of them in your newly cleaned office these three stick out in your mind.

Harris Fenns, A stout slightly balding man in his late 30s with a heavy Scottish accent, it took you the first 15 minutes of the interview to decipher what he was saying. His enthusiasm over the position was apparent from the beginning as he began a long explanation over his suspension in his previous position.
“Ye see th' lenghts folk loch 'at will gang tae deny whats reit in front ay their een, fesh fowk! wi' scales, reit in front ay their een,
Fish people, not exactly the sorts of anomalies you expected to be running into but maybe someone a bit more open minded in the department will be helpful, if we are a department only of skeptics then we might not be able to justify our expenses going forward. Despite being a bit “funny” he has a resume which still should be helpful and to be honest this is the first interview that you’ve ever conducted which got a giggle out of you.

Yisabeth Parov: A short frizzy haired woman in her early 40s of few words and a better poker face than you. She spoke of her experience in a factual but rather disconnected manner. Her experience checked out and her munitions experience was better than you would have dreamed of. When you press her about her experience she respectfully declines to talk about it. A by the book soldier, you feel like you will get along nicely.

Elias Guttenberg, A mild mannered fellow in his mid-50s spoke clearly and concisely with purpose. His qualifications were solid and he had an air of competency which you rarely have seen. He almost appeared a dull sort of person until the end of the interview whereas almost an offhanded comment asked.
“So its Aliens isn’t it? Only thing that makes sense, I am not a spiritual man so the happenings must be of a science beyond what we are used to.”
It catches you off guard but years of poker playing prevented it from showing on your face
“As the Investigational unit it’s not our job to speculate, only to gather what information we can” you pause for a second thinking over your next words
“But aliens might not be out of the question”
His eyes lit up like a child at Christmas,

“This department may finally be the change of pace I’ve been waiting for”

On his first day you inform Harris of his first assignment
“Your first assignment within the UNAU will be to investigate the reason that we are all here. As you are keenly aware of, it's not exactly common for people to really find these things worth investigating. Someone higher up must have had an experience of sorts. I want you to find out what spooked them so much.”
“Soonds loch a guid idea, ife got a talent fur gettin' fowk tae open up abit these sort ay things especially ower drinks!”
You look after him skeptical as he leaves your office, hopefully his lack of subtly won't get in the way of his work.

After a few days of dead ends, clueless bureaucrats and censored documents. You and Harris finally find someone who seems to know something.
Somehow Harris’s near indecipherable speech seems to be intimidating them and confusing them in equal measure. After a few minutes of watching him work your prey finally lets something loose.
“After the Kiru Kai was shut down”
You immediately interrupt “Who are the Kiru Kai?”
“I.. uh I said too much, look i've got a meeting in need to go to and.” Harris slams his hand on the wall above his head and lean down looking at him. Not the best to do to someone technically your superior, hopefully nothing comes of this.
“Uh.. the Kiru Kai were like the Japanese version of you but without UN assistance.
“And how does that lead to us
“Well after they got shut down some information.. I really can't talk about that please!”
He ducks under Harris’s arm and runs out of the closet you got him in.
Harris give you a predatory grin “Noo we hae at trail tae follaw.”

Later you get a written report from Harris that is thankfully unaccented. It seems he got additional information by getting into a heavy drinking binge with some of the older investigators in the UN. It turns out in the 60s there was another similar organization called the Xenoughts that was a partner between Nato and the USSR that ran for about 10 years before being disbanded. However they wouldn't divulge any other information. It's strange that the UN is hiding all this from you, what reason could there be?

Elias sits almost excitedly as you explain to him what exactly they will be doing.
“We have …” you eye the stack of boxes “An undetermined amount of reports of potentially anomalous events, creatures, sightings and anything else that would or could be labeled anomalous. They need to be organized and analyzed for their potential for investigation. Then anything of interest or use is to be reported on directly to me.”
He touches the stack of boxes with a strange form of reverence and glee
“Oh this will be fun, compared to quarterly reports reading these to me are like pulp fiction! I'll start by organizing them by subject matter and time and begin digitizing them”
He immediately grabs the first box of documents, sits down and starts reading. As you leave he starts giggling. Must be another one of those reports of alien based infidelity.

A week later and you scan your office from your desk. It has had a chunk of the reports carved out with a new desk against the wall that was freed, the new home he made for himself.
He drags his chair to your desk and sits down with a folder in his hands.
“After digitizing and sorting 2352 reports I have found about 6 which were probable enough to give a full read through.
He pushes the folder in front of you.
“The one in Cuba especially was an entertaining read.”
“The rest of the physical documents have been stored in some space previously being used by the memos department. I asked Milo if I could share it, he cracked a joke about how he might attach the contents of one to the HR policy memo for fun. But otherwise he said he didn't mind”
Over 2000 reports in a week? This man works fast, or never stops working. “Excellent work I will look into these and we may just have something more exciting to do soon.

>Gained 6 potential investigations

“Yisabeth, we are going to need some equipment to investigate these anomalies, see what we can get for transport, weapons, and armor and frankly what we are allowed to have as well.
“I will get right on it” She give a nod and heads out of your office pathing through the paperwork.

Two days later she comes back into your office with a binder and a briefcase.
“This is a list of all the equipment we are allowed to requisition, unfortunately as a Investigatory body we are mostly only allowed side arms and NIJ 1 body armor. However….. I managed to get my hands on this”
Her mouth give a hint of a grin and places the briefcase on your desk slowly she flicks open both clasps on the briefcase. Inside is a M870.”
“Fantastic” you say slowly closing the case meeting her eyes. You feel the shared excitement of a fellow gun nut “Excellent work Yisabeth”

What if we just went up to a gunstore and bought some rifles? This is the 90's and we are Global Agency of sorts. Heck we can probably just put an order to a factory, lets say H&K, and get a shipment of G3 rifles and MP5's. At the very least we can bribe some African UN peacekeepers for some AK 47's for less than 50 American dollars!

While Yisabeth and Harris get to do something exciting you decide that it's time you actually do some of this paperwork thrust onto your department. Sitting down at your desk near Elias you do your best to keep up with him.

After a couple of hours it's very clear that while you are decent at this Elias is on a whole different level. Elias excitedly explained to you that he is currently setting up an electronic system that allows him to “tag” reports based on location and creature description to help us find reports made in the same location and similar events. Its all honestly over your head but Elias seems very excited about it. He teaches you how to tag them in the computer and file them away according to the system. You aren't nearly as fast as him but you do make some headway yourself.

You find working on this to be more fun then you expected. Tallying reports of alien sperm with rejuvenating properties with Elias has let you glimpse into what Elias finds so fun about this.

By the end of the week it only looks like your office is overloaded with paperwork rather then buried in it.

69 Yisabeth/59 Harris = 64 +5 Detective +10 Veteran soldier +5 light equipment -30 Bloodthirsty beasts = 44
Roll 1d2 = 1 Roll 1d6 = 3 moderate wound.

You see out Yisabeth and Harris just outside of the UN building as they head out on their first mission.
“I know you both are very experienced but im still going to wish you good luck before you leave. You probably won’t find anything but if you do you’ll need it.”
“ae nae fash yerse. we will tag an' poke ye a body ay th' wee beasts withit issue.”
Yisabeth Grimaces at this “Ehh what he said.”

You smile as they get into the black SUV on loan from the UN.

4 days later you get a call from Ysabeth which is odd considering how classified all this is.
She sounds stern and stressed “I am coming back now with cargo but Harris is going to stay behind and he's too wounded to get on a plane.”
“What happened,”
“We found some of the prey but it got Harris bad, I will tell you the rest when I get back. I just needed to let you know that Harris will be late.
“I will see you then”
Well that's bad but also good, guess there was something to find after all. You will just have to wait for Ysabeth to get back.

You're in a borrowed autopsy room with Yisabeth looking over the corpse of the thing. It definitely doesn't look like any known animal, almost looks like a combination of a monkey and maybe some reptile. Its yellowish lathery skin is almost the same as the desert along with long claws, spikes on its back and joints joins, and its vicious barbed tail. This thing seems more designed then evolved. It's clear what killed it, what looks like buckshot torn through its torso and out its back. Yisabeth speaks up first”
“Well I would say we should do an autopsy but I don't know how to do one”
“We will keep it frozen until we have someone, How did it get Harris?”
“We were out in the desert near where Harris discovered the last attacks were at and spotted something moving so drove towards it trying to get a better look. Turns out it was a trap and these are pack hunters. Once we got out of the car two rushed out from under the sand clawing Harris in the back and legs before they could respond. One rushed me which went down after a shot from the M870. The other looked like it was about to tear Harris’s head off before he put a shot in its chest which caused it to scatter.”

You shake your head, no one really expected to be real did they.

Agent Yisabeth Parov

Post Action report - Hunt for Patagonian creature.

We arrived in northern Argentina on January 16 after 2 layovers. We immediately acquired a vehicle and began investigating reports of the creature. We had some difficulty communicating with the locals as the majority spoke spanish, however we were able to find some that knew of the events and were able to speak with us. Harris extracted the location the locals believe the creatures are. The next day we set out and investigated the area. After several hours we saw movement and followed. We were immediately ambushed upon leaving the car by the Patagonian creatures. They wounded Harris but we were able to kill one and scare the rest. I stored the creature and brought Harris to the local hospital. I then left to return here with the creature.

The Patagonian desert Creature poses a significant danger to the local population and appears to be actively hunting humans. The creature also poses a significant combat threat due to its stealth and seeming pack tactics.

>Harris is wounded for 2 weeks and unavailable for Active missions - Medical bills charge you 5k

>Available Investigations

#*NEW INFORMATION Crop Circles in Cuba. - After cross referencing several reports it turns out this is also occurring along the eastern side of the United states although much more sparsely

*OLD(Multiple different farms have all been reported to been affected by crop circles. The local government and police force have passed it off as a gag done by teenagers. But what caught Elias’s eye is that rather than shared it with the news or police the farmers hid it as long as possible and never touched the crop circles. Some were even hostile when they were found and arrested.)

>Threat potential None - light

#Dominating gang in Atlanta. - All reports of them come from minor news outlets and other gangs. Strangely the police make no mention of them even blaming other gangs where they are involved in all other reports. All reports of them also mention ridiculous reflexes that look super human

>Threat potential light to moderate

#*NEW INFORMATION Strange life form in the Argentinian Desert. - Harris and Yisabeth encounter the creatures proving their extreme danger. It may be worth going out again to try and get a live creature or gather more information on them.

*OLD(Several reports of maulings and murders. All survivors claim to have seen a spiky creature the size of a moderate dog. The few bodies recovered have had much of their blood drained. A few hunters have gone out to hunt the creature and have not returned. The local police have forbid anyone from going to the area.)

>Threat potential moderate

#*NEW INFORMATION Kidnapping cult in Xian. - Several more reports were found of similar actions occurring all over Asia. They are spaced out enough and with different enough details that someone not looking wouldn't notice. This isn't isolated to just one city and clearly planned.

*OLD(There are several dozen reports of missing individuals in Xian all claiming they were kidnapped by a martial arts club. Weeks later they show up committing low level crimes and if captured appear to have no recollection of their life before the cult they refuse to speak of.)

>Threat potential light

#Cattle Mutilations in Brazil. - In the farmland to the west of Salvador there have been dozens of reports of cattle mutilations. Most of these reports are from the families of the farmers. Many the farmers themselves have similarly to Cuba attempted to hide or prevent anyone from interacting with the cattle.

>Threat potential none - light

# Massacre in the North Pole. - A science team in the North Pole had gone missing for over a week when a survivor was found by a boat looking for them. The survivor after being warmed claimed they were attacked by large furry mammals like bears but standing as if humans and insanely strong. The crew of the boat claim this is temporary insanity caused by a white-out they get similar claims all the time.

>Threat potential unknown
>>
>>4428666
>NEW CASES

#Russian preppers - A few reports of villages being raided by what are being called russian preppers. They are reportedly armed with Old Soviet armaments however their body armor appears to be entirely different. Reports of resistors say that they wear light jumpsuits that appear to be entirely bullet proof. When the Russian government appears to bring order the preppers have already left.

>Threat potential light - serious

#Cannibalistic Murders in India - There are a string of reports of cannibalistic murders in southern India. The murderer is found each time actively consuming a corpse having little awareness for their surroundings. When later interrogated they seem to lack speech or are not willing to speak and are often aggressive trying to claw or bite others.

>Threat potential light

#Beasts in the forests of Germany - Several hunters are reporting what they call “Giant porcupines” in the forests of Germany. Most are being called sensationalist but two separate reports say otherwise. A man in the hospital with a quill as long as an arm through their leg and a picture of a man holding several quills up in a local tabloid.

Elias: #Hire some more help
Harris: #Continue to investigate why your department was created.
Yisabeth: #Attempt to get access to additional equipment.

Harris needs some light duty work, and our new hires might have a hard time parsing his speech, especially if they're an ESL. Elias' accent is there, but less obstrusive to the interviewees. Yisabeth has a better idea of what would be good to have for a field agent, and can make a decent case for whatever she'll decide on for guns.

>Personal Actions

#Submit report on weird ass creature we found.

Help prove that we aren't all getting cranks on the line to justify our expenses. Ask for a a bit more budget to sustain pers who are good at autopsies like mortician's or coroners and the like. Medically trained ones with history in human anatomy and animal anatomy would be best, because the bodies we bring back may not just be gribblies, but our own agents. It's morbid, but explaining other-worldy plasma shit or unnatural poisons is a real potential thing in this job.

>Patagonian desert creature name?

Patagonian Spiked Hunters. Agent's like to refer to them as 'Spikers' or 'Hedgehogs', due to their long claws, spiked joints and long barbed tail. Rookies are often told to watch out for the blue ones, since they're especially quick.

Thanks QM, I'll swap it over to #Attempt to get access to additional equipment.

Us and Yisabeth are both ex-military, so we'd know what we'd want out there. Any disagreements we may have over specific models is whatever, it'll be easier to submit a request if we have a range for Supply to pick over. Supply always does that shit where they throw out any non-pristine paperwork that doesn't have tonnes of reference material and reasoning, so helping out will get it further ahead.

Elias needs to look for someone who can perform autopsies, but ideally someone with some experience performing medical treatments as well, just in case we run into something that a hospital may not necessarily be equipped to handle. Make sure we get a list of supplies that they may need to do what they need to do.
Additionally, a second military agent could be useful if we can find one with a few languages under their belt.

I also agree that we should help Yisabeth get access to better equipment.

>Naming the creatures
They sound like Chupacabras to me. Verify with Harris if that is what the locals call them: it makes it easier to relate to local populations if we adapt to their naming conventions instead of creating all new ones, and most of our sources for info would probably not be too keen on foreigners who are unwilling to pay attention to local customs and terms in the long run.

We should buy a well made cage and maybe collars with electricity in them for supress them. This in case we capture one alive and we need to study near it. This should be useful even for other beasts.
We probably should buy some hunting traps and gear. Traps especially should do half of our job in taking this creatures.
And the scientist that is going to study them might need some equipment and a proper room. And a biological suit in case the animal has some unknown bacteria/virus. I think our investigator should be controlled for the bites and wounds received. And some photos of them should be made and if there is anything alien there we should take samples of it.

Upon being notified of the anomalous trophy your agents shot in Argentina you made arrangements to store the body in a local hospital mortuary under the guise of a agent lost in the field, but if you leave it there for too long some curious mortuary student might take a peek and you don't want to fill out the paperwork for that. You suppose you should find a professional to give their assessment. You're sure someone within the UN has the medical skills and security clearance but rumors spread fast here. However you might know someone from back in the airforce. You rubbed shoulders with a rather interesting vet/medic back during your small forte at a blacksite. If you ask nicely and with a hefty briefcase he might do you a favor. Well you’re not even sure they would be interested best to get the UN application process started and see what your options are.

“I hope I’m not overstepping my role but…….. Can I see it??”
You think it over for a second before responding, “Sure, I’ll walk you over there and we can grab lunch on the way back”

You make your way there and clear out a room in the mortuary from looky-loo’s and unzip the black bag
Elias looks ecstatic prodding the corpse with a gloved hand
“It’s strange. I can almost recognize a couple of different animals but it doesn't look stitched together like it grew together into this lumpy ugly mess”
“Yeah it sort of does, sort of infected”
You decide at that point you best leave it to the experts and wrap it up and go

>Yisabeth Attempts to get access to additional equipment/private purchase preferably through cold war resell/excess

Yisabeth 69

You direct Yisabeth to acquire some armaments from a private seller. From both your knowledges the cheapest path would be to buy Soviet surplus however illegal this may be. You know there is tons of it circulating the world right now after the collapse and while you're sure some in the UN is working on cracking down on it, it's not your job. Another option is private sellers or gun shops in the US, while this is not strictly up to code for your organization and the laws binding it there is nothing preventing you from privately owning these guns. However using them while on UNAU business is also not up to code. But no one will complain if they aren’t around to see it.

Later in the week Yisabeth gets back to you with a contact for purchasing Soviet Surplus gear, apparently some gun runner that doesn't ask questions which works well enough with how little you would need. She also looked around some local gun stores to see what they have in stock.

> Harris investigates department

Harris 57 +5 detective -10 wounded = 52

By Wednesday Harris was finally discharged from the hospital and insisted on reporting to work, He gives you a play by play off the fight with embellishments that made Yisabeth roll her eyes . Once done with his personal debrief he heads out on his internal investigation on the department assuring you he will discover “Everythin' those suits ur hidin' frae ye.”
By the end of the week he has a report for you on the Xenonauts but unfortunately not your organization. He excitedly tells you how he got this information by following and investigating an old Russian politician, using his skills he discovered his infidelity and used it as blackmail to extract all the information he could from the man.

Agent Harris Fenns
Investigative Report - Xenonauts
The Xenoughts was a joint US and Soviet organization created in 1958 after an event only referred to as the Iceland incident earlier in the year. The individual was not knowledgeable on what exactly occured in this event, however it is clear that this was covered up through a United States nuclear test. The Xenoughts had one purpose, to be a global fighting force to protect the world from any extraterrestrial invasion. The next 20 years of its life was spent studying the Icelandic incident and gathering what resources it could. However this “alien invasion” never came and in 1979 the organization was disbanded, regarded as a joke and waste of tax dollars.

Some potentially useful notes on the Xenoughts is that they had at the start many of the best scientists and engineers from both the Soviet Union and the United States and seem to have developed and produced some designs from the best of both their technologies. While this may now be outdated it's worth looking into what happened to these designs.

Around 10am on Friday while Elias was bringing another box of paper out to storage someone outside of your department came knocking. You tell them to come in and you are met with Milo Carlin’s immaculately slicked back hair.
“Mind if I bother you for a moment?”
“You already have but I don't mind”
“A small scottish birdie sang that you have family coming out of town to visit next week”
“Did he? Well it's not really a secret.”
“Thought i would offer you something, you see I had a Table Reservation for Windows of the World up on the World Trades center for my father next Friday but he changed his plans. You’re welcome to have it to show your kids the best view in New York”
You take him up on the offer a bit stunned. This kid certainly knows how to network and has the money to do. You make a mental note to look up who his father is.
“Looks like your department certainly is causing a stir. It didn't go unnoticed that your agents came back bruised and many people are getting curious. Myself included, since I happened thumb through some of the more interesting reads that Elias dumped in the Spare Memos office. If you ever need some strings pulled or annoying eyes misdirected I might be of some use.”
“Are you asking for a Job?”
“No not now you don't have the funding for me yet”
As he leaves your office you are taken aback at how good he was at schmoozing as it strikes you that the reservation was most likely not some happy coincidence. He will likely be a good asset going forward

As 5 rolls around you finally get to do the fun part of your job, You assemble your whole team and take them out for drinks, Might as well do some celebration at the completion of your first mission, Elias and Harris tell each other one more outrageous alien story after another while Yizabeth and you discuss war stories. By the end of the night you feel like the team knows each other just a bit more. After Calling a Taxi for Elias who is barely conscious at this point everyone goes their separate ways.

Florence has a wide knowledge of genetics, IDing, and animal tissues, including determining rare animals apart. This will be helpful for narrowing down terrestrial lifeforms from alien ones. It can help make our case if we find some Ayys that if a learned and trusted geneticist can't source it, there's other life out there.

The black market sets I've picked out are reliable enough, while still having some kick in them. The PK will provide extra firepower that the rifles won't make up for yet.

For presenting to the council, Info about the strange critter we found will prove we're not just wasting time. Showing some of our investigations, and that one that was as innocuous as the Patagonian one led to a violent pack of beasts will help persuade them that there is value amongst all the dross of Bigfoot sightings we get.

Switching over to the L-001 designation. It's a bit more typical of governmental organizations to use strings of letters and numbers that make next to no sense unless you know what it stands for. Still standing by that the agents will probably refer to them as Spikers or Chupacabras amongst themselves, especially when we have a shitload more L designations made.

Crack jokes during the whole thing, pretend you don't believe in this BS, explain what leads you had and tell them about the first you investigated.
Then roll out the corpse.
And tell them that since this was the first lead you investigated it's fairly likely quite a few of the others might be real too, don't drop the alien world but speak of Potential Eco/BioTerrorists who are engineering living species to be bioweapons, which is a breach of the Geneva Convention as,
[WARNING LIE] the dog's bite is poisonous and thus it qualify as a mean of delivery designed to use such agents or toxins for hostile purposes or in armed conflict.
Therefore as it's a breach of international law UN need to investigate this immediatly and with appropriate funding.

Do you intend to purchase all these? or are you just offering options. out of those only the MK-19 is not available as it is american made but the rest of those you could get. I would prefer it as a qm if you are going to make new options that you make a new kit with the options you want separating out the heavy weapons, as thats easier for me to organize and have effect the rolls.

for the ammo and grenades in a kit you can treat them as effectively infinite due to how cheap they are and how much it would be a pain in the ass to handle that kind of logistics in the quest.

>>4431681
when you can move them and afford them. You could technically buy a soviet tank now I just don't know where you would hide it and how you would get it where your going in a reasonable time frame and without causing a large fuss.

in real life a NIJ2 Kevlar vests would be around 300-400 but ill make it 1000$ here for easy numbers. They are cheaper then the NIJ1 suit because the suits are just that a nice fitted suit that weighs about 12 pounds in total due to being made out of kevlar and having inserts.

>Hiring Florance

During her interview you found Florence asked more than a few questions about the nature of her work in the UNAU than you would like, which was only natural coming from her background. You attempted to be a bit guarded with your answers promising more of what she might be studying on her first day. Overall her qualifications as a scientist were impressive at least to your nonacademic background.
She started on Wednesday and you personally walked her over to the hospital. At this point you kind of get a kick out of other people's reactions to the body. Unlike Elias her reaction was one of more repulsion than of glee. But that repulsion turned to utter focus after a minute or so.
“I haven't done a proper dissection since I was doing my post doc and certainly not on something so Alien, I would Say that I'm not the expert you need on this but I don't think there really are experts on this in the first place.”
“You still think you can gain some information from it right?”
“Certainly but I am going to have to take my time with it starting by taking only a few small samples from it to take back to the UN Forensics Lab at least to start genotyping and see if this is related to anything I might know about. those tests i'll have results for by next week”
“Well then I’ll leave you to it”

>Purchasing guns

You and Yisabeth look over your options from the soviet reseller and decide on a few things. You are getting 2 soviet infantry kits from the 1960, cheap and with assault rifles it will be better in a straight fight then your equipment supplied by the UN. You are also buying a PK machine gun for any targets that need a hail of gunfire, then finally a RPG-7 just in case anything goes really crazy.

The only issue is where to put it. You cannot store it in the UN equipment lockers as you're legally not supposed to have this gear. You decide to rent a temporary storage garage in New York. But you really need to find a better solution for this before anything gets inspected.

>Family visit

You count down the last minutes before you steal away from your desk for the weekend and hightail it out of there to JFK Airport to greet your family. You kneel down as Josuha barrels into your arms at full speed. He is growing bigger every day and it almost knocks the wind out of you. Your daughter is next. Merideth has just reached the age where open affection to your mom is uncool but you grab her down for a hug as well. Your Husband, Pete, then pulls you up into a bear hug and you nestle into his shoulder he still wears the same cologne he did in boot. He dips you and gives you a big smooch and you feel his mustache in your nose.

After dropping all of their stuff off in the apartment you surprise them with the tickets Milo got you and insist they put on their best clothes. The place was so fancy you felt a bit out of place but you kids were well behaved enough now that they have grown up a bit. That being said you do have to stop Joshua from pressing his face up against the window and smudging the glass. However the view was breathtaking and you know this is a memory the whole family will cherish for years to come.

The rest of the weekend was full of fun sightseeing trips around the city, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and the Empire State Building, in some quiet moments with Meridith you can tell the separation is getting to her. She just wants her mom back in her life and it almost breaks your heart. You tell this to Pete that night and he tells you to stay strong and do what you have to do and that she will understand when she is older.

“After all you're gonna save the world, aren't you?” he says with a soft rumbling laugh “who wouldn't be proud to call you her mother!”

You smile and snuggle in more.
>>
You arrive first into the council meeting room holding several folders of your reports and pictures of L-001 or non-officially Spikers. Just like last time they seem to take their time getting here then catching up with each other. Finally 10 minutes late the last one shows and sits down.

Nathaniel speaks first
“Farthings please begin your report. We are all interested to see if anything came of this organization.”

You begin by giving each of the five a folder.
“Unfortunately it seems there is more to this then baseless rumor. We investigated a series of reports that seemed the most likely and encountered a creature not currently known by man. Please open to page 4.” you receive some interested looks.
“These are the images of the creature we found in the Patagonian desert designated L-001, attached behind it are the numerous reports of its activity that caused our investigation and the report from our agents in the field.”
The stern faced woman speaks up
“You are sure that this animal is not some local creature that has yet to be documented?”
“We are sure we checked against local records and legends, from what we have gathered its first appearance was 3 months ago and in that time has possibly killed upwards of 20 people.”
Another speaks up
“Do we know anything about it?”
“It will hunt humans and it is good at doing it. Anything beyond that we will discover soon, our Histologist will be doing an extensive autopsy on the body next week.

Nathaniel looks at you in the eyes seemingly trying to read if this is some kind of trick.
“I expect you to follow up on this and gather as much information on this creature as you can for your next meeting.”

“Of course, however there are a number of other reports we want to look into. Pages 15-22 are the other investigations we would like to do. Many of them repeat the same pattern that led us to find this creature suggesting there are others like it, just as violent and dangerous.”

Scanning the room most look concerned, one seems interested, and another looks almost furious. Nathaniel speaks again. “Thank you for your time and work. Farthings expect an update to your budget on your desk later this evening. You are dismissed.”
Seems like the UNAU is not dissolved yet.

Later that night as you wait at your desk reading through the backlog of reports that same young man that bumped into you with the box of reports on your first day comes in and hands you a file. You open it and smile, excellent.

My bad, I figure if I threw the options up there , you'd give me a price appraisal. Then I would pick quantity in the future.

>tanks
I think we can get away with armoured Land Rovers or bullet proof SUVs. Maybe have a hatch on top that can pop up and we can pull out a machine gun that way. Semi hidden in the car ready to be deployed.

>in real life a NIJ2 Kevlar vests would be around 300-400 but ill make it 1000$ here for easy numbers.
Can't we round it to $500? Every dollar counts....

#Hire some more help.
More paper pushers, and field agents.

#continue working through the paperwork.
About 35% of it is done, as you didn’t work on it last week it built up some more.

#Get Secret gun storage > Write in a plan
You need someplace to put those weapons you won't get caught
Buy a old unused airport or a few acres of land outside of the city. Store ufo's in barn.
Can be turned into secret base later.

For hiding the guns, we can just buy a bit of land, and build an airstrip or buy an old small airport for our use. Kind of like in Barry Seal and Mena except with guns and blackopts, and a lack of coke.

>Report
Have Yisabeth investigate the area around our community.

#Preform research
>Autopsy on the Patagonian desert creature

>Personal Actions
#Write in
Speak to our fellow UN heads of departments to learn a bit about procedure and internal politics.
>>
Supporting >>4433020 and >>4433280 since we could really use some help oiling this machine: Elias and Ingibijorg seem like they'd make a hell of a paperwork team. Mpho would make investigating in his areas of translation much easier, although we should also look into hiring someone (or multiple people) who can translate other UN-related languages.

Personal Action:

>#Hire some more help.

With a focus on wildlife capture, and more paper pushers so Elias isn't alone. and potentially get to see some ayys somewhere other than the dissection table

Agent Actions:

>#Continue working through the paperwork. (Elias)

>#Get Live animal storage. (Harris)

>#Get secret gun storage. (Yisabeth)

Elias is going to have to contend with paperwork until we get another clerk, and Harris can use the time in recovery to prepare for us getting another L-001 in the next period. Yisabeth can try to source an acreage for sale, or failing that, we can try and find an abandoned farmyard to store our quasi-legal finds like ayy artifacts or Soviet era equipment.

Scientist:

>#Perform research on the Patagonian desert creature.

Time to see how this beastie ticks.

>Get live animal storage/personal action
Paper pusher, boss
>Investigate who is on the council overseeing you.

>Get Secret gun storage
Ex militar

so op how exactly you capture a cryptid/creature do tasers work or we equipment like dart rifles with dosis that can sleep elephants
sending our only agent alone what a great idea desu
>>
>>4433297
i guess but that makes the modern hunting rifle and shotgun $4500 which dosnt make much sense either.
>>4434061
In original X-com you just hit it with electric sticks till it stopped moving but getting equipment like dart rifles will work for the creatures most likely however aliens will have different biology and you dont know how that would work out.

So there is an issue here >>4433020

is the winning vote however 2 agent actions have no one assigned to them. If you want to do more actions get more agents. Both Hire help and get live animal storage require an agent otherwise it would be under Free action.

>>4433994
This vote was done correctly if you need an example. So either we go with what is assigned agents in the winning vote or we wait till its fixed and a new vote is made/selected

We will hire help and hold off on reporting.
Yisabeth will be focused on observing and no one will get live animal storage (but it will be a priority for someone we hire soon). So it will look like this:

Personal Action:
#Hire some help.
>>4433361 is relevant.

Agent Actions:

>Elias
#Work through paperwork.

>Harris
#Investigate who is on the council overseeing us.

>Yisabeth
#Observe and document L-001. Do not engage.

Scientist Actions:

>Florance
#Perform research on the body of L-001 we have.

This formatted correctly, QM?

hey so uhh i got ck3 and am currently wasting all my time on it. Im not going to drop the quest but it may be a bit till im CK3'd out. as we are currently falling off the board I will start it with the next update.

Eh it's still bland as hell. I'm gonna wait until they pop out a few dlcs and the mods get ported over.

Im enjoying it a ton for what its worth. Seems like an excellent base thats superior to ck2 in a lot of ways. Im looking forward to what we will be getting in the next years for it.
