It has been eight years since the fall of Alterac, after the king Aiden Perenolde betrayed the Alliance and sided with the Horde of Orgrim Doomhammer. For this betrayal, king Aiden Perenolde was dethroned and Alterac City was sacked. The nobles and population fled the land and the Kingdom of Alterac was no more.

You are Alric Perenolde, the prince and second heir of Alterac. By the order of king Aiden, you were sent into temporary exile to be safe from the Second War. This exile turned permanent and Captain Normand Garside, your guardian for the past eight years, made sure that you were safe and learned the useful skills that would help you in the future.

Now eight years later in the year 14 after the opening of the Dark Portal, you are ready to take the responsibility and try to unite the scattered Alteraci people and reclaim the lands that were once Kingdom of Alterac.

For the past month you have been dealing with the aftermath of meeting Lord Uther the Lightbringer. You visited Southshore, met with the magistrate Henry Maleb and then with the former and very bitter colonel Kavdan who didn’t want anything to do with you. Finally after that you decided to solve the bandit problem Tarren Mill had. Catching a group of bandits as prisoners, you managed to learn where they were located and staged a daring night assault into the camp, killed their leader and saved all the prisoners. What a busy first half of the summer.

Rays of sunlight came into your room through the window as you laid down on the bed. It was probably afternoon already as you didn’t have any idea how much time had passed while you slept. You forced yourself up and sat on the bed while trying to rub the sleep from your eyes. You sat there for a minute before groggily standing up and going for a piece of bread and some of the diluted wine. One final check before the small mirror in the room confirmed what you already knew. You were really groggy and dirty from yesterday's fighting. You would need a proper bath and your clothes would need a good washing too

Leaving the room and going back downstairs, you expected to see the bloody and dirty armour of yours still in a pile, but what greeted you was a surprise. Someone had already cleaned it.

“Good early afternoon prince Alric.” A slightly familiar female voice said. “The two footmen who stayed here cleaned your armour.”

You turned and saw the woman who was taken as hostage yesterday and who recognized you standing behind the counter. She was wearing a green dress and had burgundy shoulder length hair.

“You were one of the hostages.” You said. “You work here, how did you end up as a hostage?”

“I own this place.” She said happily and shrugged. “Inherited it from my father. And I guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am Monica by the way, sorry for not introducing myself.”

“And I am prince Alric Perenolde. Pleasure to meet you Monica. Has anything happened while I slept?”

“Mostly nothing, the two footmen already left. They said that they would go to the town hall after cleaning their armour. No real visitors since the troubles started. Hopefully visitors return soon, running a tavern is expensive.”

“It would benefit us all.” You said. “Is there a bath house or similar in Tarren Mill? I would really like a nice bath and my clothes would need some washing.”

“There is a small bath house near the town hall. It is a small red house.”

“Thank you Monica for the room and the help. There are things I need to do today. Can you move my armour into my room?”

“Yes prince Alric, I can do that.” She gave you a small curtsy and smiled. You returned the curtsy with a nod.

It was afternoon, you could either stay here in Tarren Mill or go see the bandit camp.

You decided to go to see how all the wounded people were faring and headed towards the church. Compared to the morning, few shops were open and there were some people milling around them. Still over half of the shops were closed, it would take some time before the trade returns and normalcy is back.

You were lost in your thoughts as you walked and didn’t immediately realize that people had noticed you. Nearly all passing citizens and store owners shouted your name, said their thanks or waved their hands. It was a bit strange to be the center of attention, but you guessed that saving bunch of their friends and family tends to make you one.

Some of the less wounded citizens and soldiers were sleeping on the benches as the infirmary was full. Those who were awake greeted you as you passed them. Some asked a few questions of what will you do next or that is the bandit threat really removed. You assured them that the threat was now removed and that Tarren Mill was safe now. While that was the truth, the lingering idea of Syndicate just sending a new band of robbers and bandit to terrorize the land came to your mind.

Inside the infirmary it was relatively quiet, only one church assistant was keeping watch of the patients. You walked past several beds until you finally found who you were looking for.

“Good afternoon prince Alric.” Said Cromwell as he was laying on the bed.

“How are you feeling?”

“The leg hurts somewhat.” He answered. “They have changed the bandages and applied some healing salve to it. Father Hampton said that the wound will heal, but it would take some time before it is completely healed.”

“That is good.” You said with relief.

“Sire, just try to get me out of this infirmary. The idea that I have to stay here and be still has already gotten in my head.”

Seeing Ayston Cromwell, the man who you could describe as a soldier's soldier just laying helplessly on a bed unable to be sparring or taking care of his arms and armour, did make you understand why he would feel like that.

“He won’t be going anywhere.” Came the calm and steady voice of Father Hampton. “Let's not talk here, the patients require rest.”

Only difference in Hampton’s office that you noticed was the armour rack on the corner with his old plate mail from his time as a knight on it.

“It is a beautiful armour, isn’t it. Made by finest armoursmiths of Capital City for a knight in service of king Terenas.”

“It is much better than the gobbled up armour I wear.” You said back to him as you smiled a bit. “But I am not here to talk about armour, I came to see my men and others who were wounded.”

“It will take some time before I can release them in good conscience. While some of the wounds aren’t fatal, letting them move could cause problems with the healing.” He said. “At this moment preventing infections is the main goal of ours.”

“I see, how long would it take then?”

“Two weeks at minimum. And after that further rest is required too.”

You gave this a thought and rubbed your chin. It would mean that those who are wounded couldn’t really do much for the second half of the summer. They could maybe be healed and ready for autumn. Hard to say yet.

“Thank you for the hard work Father Hampton. I believe that with your help we prevented any unwanted deaths.”

“I am just doing my duty as a priest and as a servant of the holy Light.” He said and smiled. “But now, please give the patients and me some time to rest as sleep is the best medicine.”

He did look rather tired so you excused yourself and left him and the patients to rest. Leaving the church you checked where the sun was, it was nearly mid-afternoon. This gave you enough time to visit more places, go to the bandit camp or just retire for the day and rest. At this moment your stomach growled, you have only eaten some bread today.

>Go to mayor Fowley to eat and discuss what Tarren Mill will do next and to remind him about the reward

Sooner we get everyone back, the better Iwill feel.

Also, should we torch the camp after or try and use it as a resupply and stop over if we ever happen to be in the area?

The ride to the bandit camp was much faster when you didn’t have to wait for anyone else. The route was relatively simple after all. When you arrived at the camp, it was one of the archers that greeted you and escorted you to Rover. He was sitting on a barrel next to a campfire, eating some dried meat. You decided to join him and he passed some dried meat to you.

“Sire, search is still in progress.” Rover said to you.

“Have you found anything Rover?”

He handed a bunch of papers to you. They were the messages and orders given to Redhill, by your older brother. Orders to form this camp, subjugate other bandits, start raiding homesteads and traders and finally the orders to go and take prisoners. Only the order to transfer them across the river to the east was missing, but what you had here was real proof. Aliden Perenolde and the Syndicate were behind the problems of Tarren Mill.

“Your brother behind this?” Rover asked.

“If these aren’t forged letters, it seems so. Sir Radan didn’t lie to us.” You said and continued. “Did you find anything else?”

“Aye, food, weapons, supplies. Militia and the workers are still gathering them all.”

“What about the dead?”

“We buried them.”

That was a good thing to do, otherwise there was a risk that some beast could smell the corpses and come feast on them.

“When do you think the militia and the workers are ready?”

Rover stood up as he had finished his piece of dried meat.

“Probably today.” He said as he wandered off to see how the work continued.

Few hours later the sun was starting to set and the work at the camp was slowly ending. Weapons and armour were put into crates and barrels, food and supplies were gathered. The few pigs and hens at the camp were too checked to be okay. Before it was too dark to search more, Rover ordered one more sweep of the camp.

As the men went back to work once more, you had a decision to make. Would you torch the camp and leave nothing standing, or would you let it stand and maybe use it in future?

Final round of searching had finished and by your orders whatever else that couldn’t be used later or looted was carried into the upper camp and piled inside the houses and next to the palisades. Few items that were discarded earlier as useless were taken and added to the loot pile after all, but nothing special or worth fortune was found.

To not leave this place for new bandits or creatures to infest, you decided that burning this all down would be favourable. Few oil cans and tinder were placed inside the houses and one by one, you lit them on fire with a torch. Soon the houses and huts were on fire and it started to spread into the palisades. You watched as the fire spread for a few minutes before signaling for the men that you were leaving. It would take them a few trips to carry everything into Tarren Mill, but what they had found was good loot.

Gained:
4 Wealth
9 Supplies
Letters from Aliden Perenolde

You rode ahead of the men back to Tarren Mill. The sun had already set when you arrived, but there were still some people on the streets. You told the guards to expect Rover and the men to arrive in a few hours and that they would be carrying loot with them. The guards saluted you and told you that they would find a place to stash it all.

You spend several minutes brushing and feeding Epona before leaving her in the stables. The stablehand who was still awake promised that she would be treated well and fed.

As she was left to be treated in the stables, you decided that it was now time to go check if the bath was still open.

You knocked on the door of the bathhouse and pushed it open. A lantern and few candles gave enough light into the room and the bathhouse proprietor who was an older lady greeted you. You apologized for being here so late and asked if it was still possible to take a bath. The old lady smiled and asked you to follow her.

The bathhouse was small, with just a few rooms. She guided you into one and started carrying hot water into the bath barrel. It didn’t take long for her to get everything done and she left you alone so that you could take the bath in peace.

After undressing and carefully lowering yourself into the hot water, you felt really relaxed. The past few days of fighting and being active had left you strained. This was the perfect way to relax and get all that strain out of you.

You took your time to wash yourself properly before leaving the bathhouse. You tried to pay for the bath, but the proprietor smiled and declined your coins. This was on the house.

“Good evening prince Alric.” Said innkeeper Monica as you closed the tavern door behind you. “What kept you up for this long?”

“Good evening Monica. I went back to the bandit camp and then took a bath. Do you have anything to eat and where can I wash my clothes?” You said.

“One moment please.” She said and went into the backroom. A minute later she came back with a soup plate that had some leftover stew in it, two pieces of bread and a jug with diluted wine.

“Venison stew with vegetables from earlier today. And I can wash your clothes. Leave them in a basket outside the door.”

You thanked her for the food and dug into it. It wasn’t that bad and you had always liked venison a lot. After having eaten it all and cleaned the plate with the bread, it was time to go to sleep. There was a basket waiting in your room and you left your arming jacket and breeches into it before placing it outside the door. Few minutes later you were already in bed and asleep.

Next morning you found the clothes washed and clean in the basket. Monica had washed them last night and dried them before placing them back into the basket. The feeling and sight of clothes without grime or blood on them was a welcomed sight.

Going downstairs you found Monica cleaning the counter with a rag. You thanked her for washing your clothes and asked for some breakfast. With a smile she served a bowl of porridge and a cup of hot herbal tea. As you ate it, you were thinking about what things should be done today.

You didn’t visit mayor Fowley yesterday, so you should do it today. Thanking for the porridge after having eaten it, you left for the town hall.

The town hall was a rather busy place even this early in the morning. A group of guards, militiamen and peasants were preparing to leave for the bandit camp to pick up more loot. Clerks were carrying papers and boxes. You asked one of them if the mayor was already in his office and after getting it confirmed, you went to knock on the door and entered nearly immediately.

“Ahh prince Alric, I didn't expect you to come this early in the morning.” Mayor Fowley said, clearly slightly surprised.

“Good morning mayor, I hope I didn’t interrupt anything important?” You said and gave him a small nod.

“Oh no, nothing at all. Just trying to make sense of the current situation with the lumbermill and how many workers we have at hand. Sooner we get everything running, sooner Tarren Mill will make profit. We have lost considerable amounts of wealth from this all.” Fowley said. “And regarding that I presume that you are here to discuss the reward we promised.”

“Correct and to ask what will Tarren Mill do next?”

“Regarding the reward, I mentioned that Tarren Mill can gather something together, but at the moment it wouldn’t be much. Tarren Mill requires the funds to be invested back into the economy so that it could grow back up. Because of this, I will offer something else. Tarren Mill can give you food, tools and weapons from our storages and armoury instead of gold.”

The offer was fair. Tarren Mill could provide you with supplies that are needed, but wealth is wealth. You need it as much as Tarren Mill. You could also take neither, as Tarren Mill has suffered a lot.

You thought about taking his offer, but Tarren Mill requires these supplies as much as you do. Accepting it would make it harder for them to recover and get back up.

“Mayor Fowley, I won’t take neither. You need the supplies as much as we do, maybe even more to recover properly from the bandits.”

“That is a generous offer prince Alric. Tarren Mill and I thank you”

“It is the smart choice.” You said and waved your hand. “Tarren Mill recovers and maybe in the future we can work together again.”

Mayor Fowley stood up behind his desk and the small bookish man leaned slightly forward to offer his hand. You stood up and shook his hand.

“For the future of Tarren Mill, we owe you one.”

“For the future of Alterac.”

It had been a week since you left Tarren Mill with the soldiers that were unhurt or able to walk. With the majority of the soldiers wounded and with a lot of fighting in a short time, the remaining men had taken this time to rest and do some light sparring. You meanwhile had taken time to do the same and help Garside with some of the supervising work.

With Cromwell still resting and healing in Tarren Mill, it fell to Rover to lead a few patrols around The Headland and the mountains. And while they didn’t find any unusual tracks or end up finding anything else of note, they did manage to hunt deer or two.

The bright spot of this week was the Midsummer Fire Festival to celebrate the hottest days of the summer and the northern summer solstice. The work stopped for a day when everyone participated in building the bonfire, preparing the festival grounds and getting the food ready. After a day full of work, finally in the evening everything was ready. The bonfire was lit, few people played music and people danced. It was a merry time full of laughter and enjoyment. And it was a well deserved break for the peasants as they had been working nearly every day.

Next morning you were slow to get up as you were nurturing a light hangover. The bacon and eggs breakfast helped a bit, but even with the headache you knew that you have to do things today. As a prince you couldn’t just stay inside and procrastinate.

With nothing special going on and as you all were basically waiting for the wounded soldiers to be allowed to travel back home, you had time to train, to self-improve. As you were eating breakfast, you thought about the possibilities of what you should concentrate the training on.

>Go running and riding regularly. Exercise and try to improve your endurance and strength that you are lacking. (Athletics)

You had always enjoyed playing chess and wargames against Garside, but you haven’t really done either of them lately. Garside had told you that both chess and wargames were a way for more martially inclined rulers to learn more about tactics and warfare.

You went into your room and took out the chessboard. It was dusty, but with a piece of cloth you cleaned it and went through all the pieces individually. It was a simple set made from wood, but good enough for you. In addition you searched your bookshelf for books about great generals and battles, but you only found books you had already read. Maybe Garside had more in his room?

You took the chessboard and spread it on the table which you usually have the meetings around and placed all the pieces in the correct places. To refresh your chess playing skills, you decided to play against yourself.

It had been maybe two hours and the game was progressing well. It was harder than you first thought, playing against yourself is as hard as you want it to be as you tried to analyze the different moves you should do and how the opponent could react to them. Thinking how to move correct pieces, seeing how the opponent might react and backtracking your choices.

“I see that you are playing chess Alric, how is it progressing?” Garside said as he had crept behind you.

“Trying to play slow to see different moves and mistakes.” You said and rubbed your temple.

Garside placed the scrolls he was carrying on the table and sat on the other side and waited for you to do the move you were thinking before he would join the game. As you moved your piece, he nearly immediately moved his. You thought about your move for a moment before doing it, but again Garside nearly immediately made his move. Compared to you he played really fast chess and just a moment later you had to resign, he was just that much better than you at chess.

“I think I have never asked this, but Normand how are you so good at chess?”

“Well I’m not that good, just that I have been playing chess somewhat for longer than you have been alive.”

“Can you then teach me more? And to teach me wargames and if you have books about generals and battles.” You asked.

“Sure I can teach you. Are you trying to learn more about warfare?”

“That’s the plan.” You said and shrugged. “Just that I don’t have good books on in my bookshelf.”

“I think I might have some. I can look for them later, but now I need to go back to my work. The lumbermill doesn’t finish itself without someone supervising it.

Another week had passed and finally sergeant Cromwell and the last of the wounded soldiers had returned. They still had to keep resting before they could join the active forces, but that didn’t stop Cromwell from walking to the mustering field and watching as others sparred and giving advice to them. He also played chess against you after you went to ask him after being repeatedly defeated by Garside. Compared to him, Cromwell was a much easier opponent and the games you had with him were more even.

It was two days from the return of Cromwell and everyone else when a messenger arrived from Southshore. He had been found wandering towards The Headland by a group of archers that were on a patrol and was then escorted by them to you.

You had been outside doing some light sparring when you heard about the messenger coming and you quickly called Garside to you so that both of you could meet with the man. It didn’t take long for Garside to arrive and neither for the messenger that was closely watched by the archers. As the messenger approached, you saw him wearing the insignia of Lordaeron and of the Silver Hand.

“Greetings prince Alric.” The messenger said and gave you a proper bow. “I have a message from Lord Uther and he would like to receive the answer as soon as possible.”

He gave you a scroll with a Silver Hands seal on it. You broke it and opened the scroll to read it. It was a message from Lord Uther just like the messenger had said. He wrote that with the gnoll chief Steelhead being dead, the attacks against farmers and traders on this side of Darrowmere River had stopped, but there were still sporadic attacks on the east side. The current lord of Durnholde Keep had managed to find tracks and evidence of a larger gnoll camp north of Durnholde. To prevent further attacks by the gnolls, Lord Uther is gathering forces to join him to attack the camp. And he is asking you to take your men and join him in at the start of the autumn. The goal of this joint effort is to eradicate the gnoll threat once and for all.

>>
>>4433810

This was a rather big thing and you guided Garside some distance away from the messenger so that he wouldn’t hear what you spoke. You showed him the scroll and gave it to him to read it.

“Blasted. He is trying to keep us on his leash, to better control us. I wouldn’t go, but what if we don’t go?” He said and rubbed his chin. “It would also make our plans to expand here a bit more difficult. We only have a handful of men now, but we might have enough time to actively patrol one finger of Hillsbrad to claim it before autumn arrives.”

Garside was correct on both accounts. This was clearly an attempt by Uther to have some control on us, but declining him could also be a really bad choice. At the start of the autumn, the now wounded men would be healed and ready to serve, which would allow you to bring them with you to Uther. At the moment you only have a handful of footmen and archers that aren’t wounded, but there is some time to try to expand your claims here or just allow them to rest.

After hearing Garsides opinion you returned to the messenger.

Our goal is to build up our territory and troops to reclaim Alterac. Going all around Hillsbrad fighting gnolls does nothing but weaken us.

But if we refuse Uther will have an excuse to destroy us.
Besides, the bounty on gnoll ears is still up right? we can get some wealth out of the attack
And above all we are helping people by bringing safety to these lands.

>And above all we are helping people by bringing safety to these lands.

That's not our goal. We need to build up our own base and armies to reclaim Alterac from the ogres. Uther wants us to fight to keep us weak.
>>
>>4433869
well, if people hate us, we will not have enough peasants to build and train more soldiers and then we would stagnate.we need reputation so we have a steady flock of peasants every season to build and train, so we can finally take alterac, or do you think that with 50 soldiers we can reclaim the great city of Alterac?

Over half our force is wounded after an anti-bandit operation, and he can consult the people of Tarren's Mill for proof. He might grumble but I can't see him being lawful stupid enough to use it as an excuse to attack.

The messenger was being watched by the archers as you returned to him. You didn’t like this and hoped that the messenger would be gone soon.

“Prince Alric, have you made your decision yet?” Asked the messenger as you approached him.

“Yes I have. You can tell Lord Uther that I agree and at the start of the autumn me and my men will travel to Southshore.”

You noticed that the messenger gave a slight smile when he heard that.

“Lord Uther will be pleased to hear that. He knew that you would agree to join him. Lord Uther will be waiting for you.” The messenger said and bowed, before mounting his horse.

You watched as the messenger rode away. You didn’t like this at all, but sometimes things like this will happen. You aren’t the only player of politics and power in Lordaeron.

“Prince Alric, should we call a meeting regarding this?” Asked Garside who was standing next to you.

“Yes we should, can you call everyone here?”

Garside nodded and went immediately to work. You had hoped that the late summer and autumn would be somewhat more calmer, but this threw that wish away.

Not long after you and everyone else was sitting around the table in your homestead. As this was a rather abrupt meeting, no one was really prepared for this. Cromwell had come with his crutches, Beckston had been maintaining his armour and didn’t have it on and only Maxwell was wearing his full plate mail. Rover was last to arrive as he had been leading the archer recruits in some maneuvers in the woods.

“We called this meeting because of a message from Lord Uther the Lightbringer. While we managed to defeat the gnoll threat on this side of Darrowmere River, apparently a second camp had been found on the east side of the river. To destroy the threat, Lord Uther is going to gather forces to launch a campaign on them. Why this is relevant to us is because he had called us to join him and I agreed.”

There were some curious looks in the room for a moment before you continued.

“We shall go to Southshore at the start of the autumn, so we do have some time to prepare for this. I want to hear what you are thinking about this and also to hear your opinion of trying to claim one or more of the Hillsbrads fingers now as we still have a few weeks before autumn arrives.”

“Of my men, I have six footmen ready to fight.” Said Maxwell. “Four others are wounded from the previous fighting, but they should be healed and ready for Lord Uther's expedition.”

“I have seven.” Beckston said. “Not enough for our usual pike block, but we can fight. Rest of us, just like sergeant Maxwell said are wounded from recent fighting. To be honest prince Alric, I would prefer to rest before we join Lord Uther.”

“The problem we have is that our footmen take too heavy casualties in our battles. Of the 40 footmen we could have, we only have 14 standing and able to fight.” Cromwell explained. “Sire we need more footmen or at least have numerical superiority in the future.”

“We would have 40 footmen and 20 archers at the start of autumn if we can replenish those who died in the fighting against the gnolls. And of those footmen 30 are mercenaries, no offence to Beckston and Maxwell.” Garside continued.

“None taken, I understand your concerns captain.” Maxwell said back. “And I agree with sergeant Cromwell.”

“Thank you everyone. It is definitely true that we need to increase the number of our soldiers immediately if we are to effectively expand and be able to fight at the same time.” You said. “So I will ask, do you think that we could try to expand before we have to join Uther?

“We can.” Rover who hadn’t spoken yet said.

“I agree with Rover.” Garside said. “Darrow Hill and Gavin’s Naze are both uninhabited and wilderness. Might have some animals or creatures around. Sofera’s Naze meanwhile is just next to us, but there were rumours of bandits. Could be that we have already beaten them when we dealt with Redhill.”

“So two choices really. Wilderness to west of us and potential bandits and the Alterac-Southshore road to east.” You said and Garside nodded.

The sun had been up for a few hours as your small force of footmen and archers left The Headland. It wasn’t that long march to leave the farms and hunting cabins behind and soon you were approaching Darrow Hill. With Rover and his archers again as the vanguard, you felt relatively safe at going into the wilderness.

Scattered trees and forests covered the land, bushes and small trees were growing everywhere. The land really was untamed with no sign of human hand or cultivation. It was quite serene and calm. Nothing had happened when you reached the approximate center point of Darrow Hill where you and the men had a short lunch break. This was a good place to expand. When the break was over, you continued the march towards Gavin’s Naze.

It was late afternoon and you had arrived at Gavin's Naze. The route you took was more open and not you nor anyone else had seen or heard anything. These places were empty, just a few animals and birds.

Few moments later one of the archers came running to you. He told you that Rover had found an old camping spot which was empty with no signs of use for some time. It didn’t take long for you to arrive there and find Rover poking at the old campfire.

“Old camping spot, do you know when it was used last time?” You said to him as you dismounted and started to brush Epona.

“This year. Rains have muddled the camp.” He grumbled.

Really not that useful information, but it was better than nothing. Some people had used this place. Could be hunters, could be peasants or could be bandits. Impossible to know. You ordered a short break to be held and that you would camp here for the night. The men rested a bit before starting to cut trees for shelters and chop some firewood.

As they did that, you decided to ride more to the west for some sightseeing. The weather was clear and it wasn’t evening yet so you could maybe see the town of Hillsbrad.

What you saw was the town of Hillsbrad and something else. The gleaming violet spires and towers of Dalaran. Even from the distance you could see how mighty and impressive the towers were. While the Alterac City was mighty and her walls and towers strong, you couldn’t compare it to what you saw in the distance. Maybe you could have a chance visit Dalaran in the future.

For the past two days you had patrolled around Gavin’s Naze and had found nothing except animals and pine cones. With your food supplies slowly running out, you decided to head back home to rest for a day or two before going for another patrol.

On your way home you actually found something. Rover had sent an archer to fetch you as he had found mountain lion tracks, a rather recent tracks in fact. Rover explained that the tracks were relatively fresh, maybe just an hour or two old and that he could easily follow them. The prospect of going to hunt a mountain lion was intriguing as a successful hunt would mean the priced lion pelt and the tasty lion meat, but you knew that mountain lions that inhabited the Alterac Mountains were big, mean and dangerous. Hunting one wouldn't be easy.

“We are going to hunt the lion.” You said to Rover.

“Sire, are you sure this is a smart move? The mountain lions are quite dangerous beasts.” Asked Beckston who had come to see the tracks.

“Mountain lions always a problem.” Said Rover. “They aren’t afraid of humans and they attack cattle and farms.”

“It is settled then. We will try to hunt the lion next.”

Rover had tracked the mountain lion tracks for an hour before he had managed to find the lion’s den. He had carefully backtracked and went downwind to prevent it from smelling him and returned to you to tell what he saw.

“It’s a big lion, terrible claws. Small den next to a rocky outcrop.” He told you and everyone standing around.

“You have the most experience with hunting, how do you think we should do it?”

Rover thought for a moment and measured the pikes Kul Tirans were carrying with his look.

“Your lance, pikes or our bows.” Rover said. “Plant the lance into its head or to its stomach when it jumps, same with pikes. Arrows work too, but too many stabs or arrows can ruin the pelt.”

So those were your options.

>11, Success

You told Rover and others that it would be you who would try to take it down with your lance.

“Sire, I don’t like it, but we will be right behind you.” Said Beckston.

You appreciated his words as you placed your helmet on your head and your vision was limited into a tunnel. Few deep breaths and you were ready. Fighting against a lion was a completely different deal than kobolds, gnolls or bandits.

Rover led you through the woods towards the lion’s den and a few moments later the woods cleared and the rocky outcrops were on your sight. The clearing was empty, but you readied your lance.

It only took a few seconds for the mountain lion to appear from between the rocks. It was a big animal and you saw its long claws and tusks. It watched you closely as your footmen and archers followed right behind you. You muttered a short prayer to Light, no harm done it that as the mountain lion growled and you lowered your lance and braced it.

You picked up speed quickly as Epona went into full gallop. The lion did the same and came running full speed towards you.

It was only seconds for the lion to reach you and with a leap it aimed towards the throat and head of Epona.

It wasn’t lucky at all as your lance struck it slightly underneath its throat and penetrated into its body. The weight and momentum of the lion immediately wrestled the lance from your hand and nearly unhorsed you, but with some quick reactions you managed to stay on. You rode forward for a few dozen metres before turning and seeing the end result. The mountain lion didn’t move and your lance stuck in its chest as it was motionless on the ground. Your heartbeat slowly slowed down as you approached the lion and dismounted. You placed your hand on your sword hilt out of habit, but there was no need for it. The lion was dead and not long after unceremoniously Rover was already letting the blood out and skinning it.

The mountain lion pelt was being prepared by the hunters as the cooks prepared the meat. Tables had been brought out with different foods being prepared and drinks served. The soldiers serving you were all invited, including those who had joined you on the recent patrol, those who were wounded and those who were still being trained. Cups were raised to Alric, they were raised to Alterac and they were raised to the future.

It had been two days from the previous patrol and you were ready to go for another one. The mountain lion had been eaten and the hunters had successfully prepared the pelt for further use. It does require some work to be done, but that can wait till later. Now you had another patrol to successfully launch.

The rest of the summer was peaceful. Calm summer rains hit Hillsbrad and Alterac giving the crops final watering before the autumn and the harvest would come. The rain didn’t stop you from going out on patrols. Sure there was some grumbling about getting wet, but the fingers of Hillsbrad don’t patrol themselves. Someone had to do it and it ended up being you and the not wounded soldiers.

The patrols went around Darrow Hill and Gavin’s Naze. Zigzagged around the forests and clearings. Absolutely nothing happened outside of seeing a herd of deer eating some grass before they saw you and ran away.

Still the patrols bore fruit. You considered Darrow Hill and Gavin’s Naze to be now under your protection and part of the Alterac you controlled. In addition to that, during one patrol you decided to head south and go down from Gavin's Naze and follow the hills back home, you ended up finding an uninhabited cave under Darrow Hill. The cave had some signs of living inside with scattered bones and remains of a campfire, but they were very old from years ago. The thing that did catch an eye of one of your soldiers was this clear vein of red stone on the cave wall and you ended up asking one of the miners who knows their geology to go check it out. To your delight, the miner came back with a sample of it and told it was iron ore. There was iron under Darrow Hill.

When the last patrol came back, the farmers started collecting the harvest the next day. The hunters presented the mountain lion coat that they had prepared to you and you had to think what to do with it. Either wear it on your armour as a sign of prestige or leave it into your home to impress people visiting you. You had already called everyone for the usual season start meeting and told them that it would happen after the harvest is done, so that it could be taken into account when talking about finances.

>4 Wealth from the harvest

The meeting was called with the harvest being done and everyone had joined you around the big table.

“The summer was extremely fruitful to us in terms of acquired wealth. From the loot and bounties we have received from fighting the gnolls and bandits, to the silver and lead mine starting to produce ore. It opens a lot of possibilities for us to do. In addition to wealth we have acquired enough supplies to last several seasons.” Said Garside as he shuffled the scrolls in front of him. “We also had a rather big influx of peasants coming here in the latter half of the summer. 110 peasants in total with half of them being Alteracis from Southshore and rest a mix of those from nearby lands and those who had lost their farms to gnolls.”

That was good news. It seems that people didn’t listen to former colonel Kavdan and decided to join you.

“We now also consider both Darrow Hill and Gavin’s Naze to be under our protection, but we can’t claim the central Hillsbrad as it is officially part of Lordaeron even if they don’t actively assert their claim. But the region is rather deserted with a good portion of the farmers and peasants deciding to move here for better safety.”

“Thank you captain Garside. What is your opinion on what should be done?” You asked.

“Thanks to the mine in the mountains, we have a rather good source of wealth in our hands. The concern I have is that we are using more food and equipment than we can produce ourselves. If we were to expand our military, we would require more supplies as otherwise we would have to start buying them. To fix that problem I suggest that we will use a considerable portion of our wealth to construct Farms, Hunting Cabins and Herbalist’s Huts. If we can get the farms up and running during the autumn and winter, the farmers can get to work immediately in the spring and we get a good harvest next autumn.”

“Sire, economy is not my expertise, but we should also consider building a blacksmith. It would make repairing our arms and armours easier.” Said Cromwell who was wearing his own plate mail for the first time since getting wounded. “Then there is also the need to secure the mountains better, by upgrading the Scout Tower into a Guard Tower. Finally building a Barracks would allow us to train Crossbowmen and be one step closer to Mounted Sergeants.”

“What about the troops?” You asked.

“Sire, both Beckston’s Swashbucklers and Maxwell’s Stromgarde Guards are in full strength, but I could only find a few replacements so I have only eight footmen. Rover meanwhile has all 20 archers ready for action.” Cromwell explained, “Sire, the thing is that we need more footmen and archers. The numbers we have now are adequate, but not enough if we were to properly defend our holdings. So please do not spend all our wealth, but save some for troops.”

would we have to build farms now to have them ready for the next harvest, or will we get another opportunity at the start of winter? If we get the winter build, then
>Herbalist’s Hut, +1 Supply, costs 5 Wealth and 5 Peasants, Darrow Hill
>Herbalist’s Hut, +1 Supply, costs 5 Wealth and 5 Peasants, Gavin’s Naze
>Hunting Cabin, +1 Supply, costs 3 Wealth and 5 Peasants, Darrow Hill
>Hunting Cabin, +1 Supply, costs 3 Wealth and 5 Peasants, Gavin’s Naze
takes the edge off the supply woes on the lowest budget and gives us more medicines. If we need to build the farms now to be ready for next season, then replace the herbalists with farms.

Next, either
>Blacksmith, +1 Supply, Costs 8 Wealth and 5 Peasants, The Headland
or
>Noble Manor, +2 Supply, Costs 8 Wealth and 10 Peasants, The Headland, Leadership bonus

Getting that leadership bonus would be sweet, but I'm assuming blacksmith will provide more direct advantages for our troops. Either way it's an extra supply for 8 Wealth, and a boost to military effectiveness. Guard tower or barracks would be nice but too expensive right now, and by the time they're done it'll be Winter.

This leaves us with 6 Wealth and 80-85 peasants for recruitment, which is plenty to recruit and have a bit spare in case.
>>
>>4441069
You know what, getting a Barracks would also let us convert any spare peasants to militia, who could presumably be trusted to patrol the holdings while the main force is busy kicking the shit out of gnolls or whatever else. Makes it a lot more tempting to get sooner rather than later, with crossbows being a great bonus.
>>
>>4441069

“We will take advantage of the forests first. Both hunting and herbalism will provide use with food and useful herbs. Farms can wait till the winter.” You said. “And Cromwell is correct, we need to have a blacksmith.”

There was a round of nods around the table.

“The blacksmith also allows us to be less reliant on Tarren Mill. Before this, our peasants either had to travel there or to Southshore for all the blacksmithing needs.” You continued. “With that decided, we need to talk about the military next.”

“Sire, we need more archers and footmen.” Cromwell said.

“I agree, but we should have them to be as high quality as possible.” Maxwell said and continued. “Veteran troops can win battles even if they are in numerical disadvantage.”
“But veterans are expensive to train, we can have twice as many normal footmen compared to veterans.” Cromwell argued back. “We need a large footmen force.”

“Aye, footmen and archers for patrols.” Rover said his opinion.

“We have a chance to double our numbers this autumn and prepare for the winter and next year. The question is are we going to spend all our remaining wealth on troops or leave some for later use?” Garside said.

“What about available mercenaries?” You asked.

“Sire, the Stephen’s Iron Militia are still in Southshore, but this new group called Larsh’s Hunters have arrived in Hillsbrad recently. They are apparently from western Lordaeron and what I have heard is that they only require to be paid once as they can hunt for their own food. Peculiar bunch of archers.” Beckston told you.

So those were your choices. The new hunters, herbalists and blacksmith would make you self-reliant on supplies, but hiring a lot of troops would make you go into deficit again. Leaving some wealth saved would be nice, but you now had the prospect of doubling your troop numbers.

Recruit 20 footmen, 20 archers. We'll be slightly overdrawn on supply again but we have plenty of breathing room still and can build the 2 extra farms next season, and a 60-40 split on footmen to archers seems like a decent balance to me.

I reckon training Cromwell's current 8 dudes to Vet would be a good addition too, giving us more of a solid vet core to go with Maxwell.

Leaves us with 1 Wealth spare if we need it.

“Maxwell is correct, we should have veteran troops. Training troops takes time and they are expensive, so making sure that they are well-trained makes sense. And the troops are Alteraci, we need to try to prevent them from dying. We can sort the best footman candidates from the peasants.”

“I have no interest in personally working with Uther so I will stay here. I can do the training of the troops.” Said Garside.

“Then this is settled, captain Garside will stay here to supervise the projects and train the troops.” You said. “If any of you don’t have any questions or anything to say, this meeting is over.”

“60 footmen of which half are veteran and 30 archers is a potent force.” Cromwell said. “Deploying a force of that size would be enough to defeat quite many foes. Maybe not an orc clan or the ogres yet, but anyone else who isn’t organized enough could be defeated.”

“Footmen and archers work, but against cavalry or big monsters we need cavalry of our own or crossbows.” Beckston said. “Not counting other specialists.”

“You mean dwarves or high elves?” You asked.

“Yes sire, I have fought with dwarfs in the past, but their services aren’t cheap.”

You nodded and put that in your mind. There must still be bad blood between Alterac and the Wildhammer dwarves, but what about Ironforge and the Bronzebeard clan? The high elves probably still hate you for the actions your father did. Setting a troll ambush that ended up killing a number of elven rangers won’t be forgotten.

Still these are things that should be considered in the future.

As the autumn arrived and it was time to leave, you watched the peasants go to work. From the timber harvested by the lumbermill several houses had already been built and more houses were under construction. It would still take months for all houses to be ready, but it did seem that there would be enough houses for everyone before the cold Alterac winter arrives. Sir Radan and his bandits were closely watched as they carried the logs for a new house. To your and everyone else surprise they had behaved rather well. Sir Radan had enforced rules over his crew and the results were rather favourable.

Peasants and worker crews who were tasked with building the hunter’s cabins and herbalist’s huts had already left early to clear the land and to prepare the sites for the buildings.

“Good luck on your journey and try to get back healthy and with everyone still alive.” Said Garside who had come to see you before you left.

“I will try. Depends on how many gnolls there are.”

“And what Uther might try to do.” You said back and Garside just nodded. “Good luck here and push the recruits hard.”

“Will do.” He just said back and watched as Cromwell ordered everyone to move.

Cromwell marched first and he was followed by his eight footmen. After him came lieutenant Beckston and the 20 Kul Tiran Swashbucklers with their short pikes and hand weapons, sergeant Maxwell came after that with his ten Stromgarde Guards and finally it was Rover and his 20 archers that followed last. Not far from Rover followed the ox cart Kul Tirans used which was laden with the tents and other useful gear and equipment including food. Force this big required a cart or two to carry all the gear and supplies.

After leaving The Headland and reaching the Alterac-Southshore road, you decided to ride to the front. The new mountain lion pelt was modified enough to be worn as a cloak and the head as a hood. If your armour was a new or masterwork lever product, it would have looked really impressive, but now it just looked impressive.

It was nearly midday when you were rather close to the Tarren Mill crossroad as you saw a horse wagon on a roadside. As you got closer, you saw that the wagon had lost a wheel and there was only one person standing next to the wagon. As you got even closer, the person waved their hand to you and you noticed that the person was actually a young woman, maybe not that much older than you were.

It was already time for a short break and so you ordered a few footmen to help her to get the wheel back on. In just a few minutes the wheel was back on and she could continue her journey. With the wheel being on, she approached you and

“Name’s Legace, Kris Legace and I am a trader.” She said as you got a better look of her. She had long amber hair and was wearing otherwise grey clothing outside of an orange bandana around her neck. You gave a look at her wagon too and it was stuffed full of little bit everything under a tarp. “Thank you for helping me. I couldn't have managed to fix the wheel if I were alone."

“Not a problem, it wasn't a big thing to do." You said and introduced yourself. "I am Alric, pleasure to meet you.”

“Ohh prince Alric? The word has spread of you.” She said with excitement in her voice and you acknowledged being recognized by a polite nod.

“What do people say about me?” You asked and gave her a questioning look.

“That Alteraci prince has arrived, that you saved people from gnolls and after that you saved Tarren Mill from bandits.”

So the rumours had spread far and wide. It was probably a good thing if all the rumours were the ones Legace just told you.

“You said that you were a trader, how did you end up as one?” You asked as the only trader you knew was a middle aged bald man.

“Same way how you ended up as prince. Born into it. My father was a trader, so I followed his footsteps.” Kris Legace said happily, but became more serious as she continued. “My father died a couple years and since then I have been doing this alone.”

“Sorry to hear that, my condolences.” You said and gave her a small nod.

She waved your condolences away and gave a small smile.

“Don’t worry about it, he taught me everything he knew about trading.”

“Well if you are a trader, what are you selling then? I tried to have a look, but I just saw some tools that weren’t covered by the tarp.” You asked her.

“Well prince Alric, I can show you.”

She walked to her wagon and climbed on it. She moved the tarp aside and removed lids from the crates. She motioned you to climb on the wagon to have a better look which you did.

“I mostly sell a little bit of everything. If I hear that someone needs something, I try to acquire it and sell it. Now I have some tools to Tarren Mill, a few wine jugs from Andorhal to Southshore, a bunch of boots, leathers and fur to Southshore. Speaking of boots, yours are quite old.”

You looked down and she was correct, your boots were rather old and worn down.

“I also do have some more special to offer.” She said and went rummaging around the back of the wagon. She lifted a small chest on top of a crate and opened it with a key before turning the chest around to show the contents of it. Two scrolls and a potion with purple liquid were placed carefully in it on a bed of hay. “Scroll of Protection and Scroll of Healing, break the wax seal and open the scroll for it to activate. Made by a mage in Hearthglen, these scrolls either protect you and people around you from harm, or heal your wounds if you have received them. The potion is a Replenishment Potion, drink it outside of battles and it will heal your wounds and replenish your inner power, well that is what the alchemist told me.”

All three items were potent and most likely would be useful in the future, but you didn’t really have that much wealth remaining.

You considered the different positives and ended up on the Scroll of Healing. You went and got the last savings that were stashed in the ox cart and paid for it.

“Pleasure of doing business with you.” She said and handed you the scroll. “Do you need anything else, maybe new boots?”

Truth to be told your boots were quite old and worn down and after testing a few different boots, you ended up buying new riding boots for yourself.

With the shopping done, the short break was over and you continued your journey. When you reached the Tarren Mill crossroad Kris Legace waved her hand and wished you luck on whatever you were going to do. With her leaving, you continued down the road towards Southshore.

Scroll of Healing

Your men marched through the afternoon with only small breaks and reached Southshore well before the evening. Outside the city walls a tent camp had been built and you saw footmen and archers milling about and doing their jobs and tasks. As you and your men marched closer, the soldiers stopped working and just watched as you approached the camp. You stopped just outside the tents and waited till someone would come to ask questions or guide you.

Thankfully it didn’t take long for someone to arrive. The man who was clearly a paladin of Silver Hand walked to you. He wasn’t that tall, but he was wide and muscular and his long brown hair was on a ponytail.

“Hail prince Alric, welcome to our camp.” He said with a rich baritone voice. “I am Ballador, paladin of Silver Hand and I am in command of this camp.”

“Pleasure to meet you sir Ballador.” You said to the man as you looked down on him from horseback. “I presume you are here to guide us into your camp?”

“Good guess prince Alric, but one of my men will do that.” He said. “I am just here to tell you that Lord Uther expects you. He is in the church so you should go to see him as soon as possible.”

You nodded back and Ballador gave you a slight bow before he left and ordered one of his lieutenants to help you set up your camp. You were guided near the wall and told to place your tents there. After the work started the lieutenant left you alone to continue setting up the tents.

“Sire, double the guards?” Asked sergeant Cromwell who had walked next to you.

“No need for that, the usual arrangements are enough.” You answered him. You should go see Uther soon, but at the same time he can wait, it is clear that you aren’t leaving immediately by the look of their camp.

“I will visit Beric first.” You said to Cromwell. “He didn’t visit us during the summer and he might have some new information for us.”

“Sire, I will send a few footmen with you as guards just in case.”

“Thank you sergeant. Meanwhile set up the camp and get the men eating and resting.”

Cromwell saluted you and went to give orders and four Stromgarde Guards were ordered to follow you.

Getting through the gate was easy. The guards recognized you and allowed you and your guards to pass without getting checked. As you followed the main street towards the docks and warehouses where Beric’s home is, you noticed how busy the city was. With the harvest being done, the peasants had come to Southshore to sell excess harvest and to buy things they required. The stores were full of customers, small carts and wheelbarrows full of goods were everywhere. Trade was clearly flourishing in the Southshore.

As you rode through the city, the citizens and peasants noticed you and gave you enough room to move without having to stop. Having four footmen in reddish Stromgarde plate mail providing security and having the mountain lion cloak and hood made you a rather imposing figure. The people whispered to each other as you passed them and it seemed like they recognized who you are.

The docks and warehouse district had less people than the main street and the market. Going and finding Beric’s warehouse wasn’t that difficult and you dismounted Epona to knock on the door. It took a few minutes for Beric to come to the door.

“Stop knocking, I am not opening the door. Now scram!” He shouted through the door, not even opening the view slit.

“You will open for your prince!” You shouted back and there was no answer for several seconds before you heard the locks unlocking and finally the door opened.

“Prince Alric, you should have said that it was you sooner. Now get in quickly.” Beric said and guided you in and let Epona into the barn portion of the warehouse.

“Do you have some problems?” You asked as you placed your helmet on the table as Beric gave some bread and cheese to you.

“Well yes, some bloody thugs tried to burn my home two weeks ago and last week a few thugs tried to bully me to leave Southshore.” He said as he scratched his bald head. “I have an idea who has hired the thugs, but I have no proof on that.”

“You can at least tell me who you are thinking of?”

“Kavdan.” Beric said immediately. “He doesn’t like you and he doesn’t like me and he would like to see you fail.”

You sighed deeply and pinched the bridge of your nose, if Kavdan is behind this, he has moved from just words to actually doing something.

“If I were to go and drag him from his home to make sure he won’t try anything in the future, I don’t know if it could be done without causing other problems. We are in Southshore, not in Alterac.”

“You are correct prince Alric. You might be a prince, but a prince in name only.”

Beric was correct. Your name didn’t have much weight and doing things carelessly could get you in trouble.

“What are your plans?”

“Continue living, trading and doing my business. One bitter old man won’t stop me.”

“That is good to hear. But to change the subject, have you heard anything, rumours or gossip?”

“Not much, just that there are more gnolls east of Darrowmere River. And the rumours of a military expedition to defeat them. When Uther arrived here a few weeks ago and now you are here, I think I can put things together. You are going to be joining his forces.”

“Correct.” You said and sighed again. “Garside doesn’t like it at all. He reasoned that if we don’t join him, Uther might use it against us. It is rather clear that he wants to assert some control over me.”

“That is to be honest quite a shitty situation.” Beric said.

Beric was correct, you didn’t like this at all, but this was something you had to do.

You told Beric what had happened in Tarren Mill. The fighting against the bandits and the proof that was found that it was actually your brother Aliden Perenolde who was behind the bandit attack. That a crime organisation called Syndicate was active and was led by Aliden. Beric sadly hasn’t heard anything new, nor has he heard anything new about the local thieves or organised crime. If Syndicate is active in Southshore, then they haven’t done anything to reveal themselves or to change the local balance of power.

You spoke with Beric a little bit more, mainly about the oncoming expedition, but you had to excuse yourself due to having to meet Uther the Lightbringer today. Beric wished you luck for the expedition and said that he would try to search information regarding Syndicate. You thanked him for his efforts and left to see Lord Uther.

The church of Southshore wasn’t that much bigger than the church in Tarren Mill, but it had more houses and structures built right next to it to be part of the church complex. You left Epona in the stables right next to the church and went inside. After asking directions from a few church assistants, you found your way to the office Uther was using. After knocking on the door, you were called in by one of his clerks and then guided further into his room.

Uther the Lightbringer was in the middle of doing some paperwork as you were ushered into his office.

“I heard that you had arrived here a few hours ago.” Uther said and didn’t even raise his head from the papers to greet you. After he had moved his quill away and moved few papers away he looked up to you. “I would like to ask where you have been, because I think I ordered Ballador to send you to me immediately.”

"The people under my protection are preparing supplies for the Winter, and I was meeting a merchant in town to make the arrangements. I am here to fight to protect them, not serve you."
>>
“Winter is coming in a few months and it will get cold in the foothills. The Alterac Mountains are quite snowy as the rain clouds come from the sea and rain down on this side of the mountains. Last year the winter was quite harsh and now we have more people there than ever before. To make sure that everyone gets through the winter without problems, I was meeting a merchant to make arrangements for some supplies that we are lacking. When I am in Southshore, I have to spend my time effectively and prioritize the needs of my people.” You told him as you sat down and removed your helmet. “I hope that is a good enough explanation for you Lord Uther.”

He looked at you and tapped his fingers on the table before he spoke.

“Understandable. Thank you for coming and accepting my invite for this expedition, due to the security of Hillsbrad involves both of us. Why I wanted to see you is to ask exactly what troops you have brought and what you are good at so that we can effectively have cooperation between your men and our men.”

You thought a bit before you talked.

“I have 20 archers and 40 footmen of which half use short pikes and we have fought against both gnolls and bandits so the men are experienced and not green.” You told Uther as he wrote it down. “And one ox cart to carry supplies and equipment.”

“Sizeable force and a good addition to the expedition.” Uther commented.

“What about the troops you will be bringing?” You asked back.

“You will hear more about them tomorrow. There will be a meeting with the officers of our forces tomorrow midday where we will discuss our plans for the coming expedition.” Uther said and continued. “With that having been said, the chances for us to speak in private will be quite limited in the near future so I will speak now. I told king Terenas about you and about our fight where we met. We had a long discussion about you and Alterac with king Terenas and with prince Arthas. He would have wanted for his father to order Silver Hand to destroy you and your forces.”

“I presume that king Terenas didn’t choose to do that for I am here sitting in front of you.”

“Correct, king Terenas ordered you to be watched and he wanted you to know that the actions you will take, will be actions that are beneficial to Lordaeron foremost. If we hear or get evidence of you or your men doing anything that is dangerous to the citizens of Lordaeron or act against us, king Terenas wants you to know that action against you will be undertaken.”

There it was, the reason why you were here.

“So officially I was invited because of common foe and the benefits to the whole region, but unofficially I am here because it will be easier to watch me and make sure that I act for the benefit of Lordaeron and not for the benefit of myself or Alterac.”

“Correct, the decision of inviting you was an easy choice to do. We can watch you and bolster our forces in the expedition at the same time. And this isn’t just beneficial to Lordaeron, but to you also. If we can trust you, maybe in the future we don’t have to watch over you anymore. And regarding that, I have a question for you. What are your goals exactly?”

“Do you know who are currently in control of Alterac City?” You asked. “Or what about the aptly named Gallow’s Corner?”

“It is the Crushridge Ogres and in case of the Corner, either bandits or the ogres.” Uther answered quickly.

“That is the problem I am trying to solve. It is not the Alteraci people who are in control of Alterac. My people don’t have a place they could call home and I want to change that. And with the Alteraci people having spread all around Lordaeron, there hasn’t been no one who has championed their cause. I want to defeat the ogres and bandits and to reclaim Alterac. That is my goal.”

“To reclaim Alterac.” Uther mused. “I need to think about this. Thank you prince Alric for being honest with me.”

“Is there anything else?” You asked.

“No, this is enough for today. Please come tomorrow for the midday briefing at the town hall.” Uther said while standing up. You did the same and with a small bow excused yourself.

The next morning was slightly damp. The rains of last night had washed over Southshore and turned the camp into a field of mud. The brazier in your tent tried to keep the dampness away as you ate some breakfast and prepared for the day. The slight drizzle came back during the morning and you ended up talking with Cromwell and the rest of your officers in your tent. The talks weren’t that serious, just chatting about the past few months, what their experiences have been and what they expect from the future. While not serious, it was rather nice to talk and have a better idea of what your men are like.

The ride to the town hall was a short one. You had taken sergeant Cromwell with you as your assistant and second in command for this expedition. When you arrived at the town hall, there were already footmen and other officers milling about so your arrival caused few heads to turn to see who this newcomer was. One of the stablehands came to take your horse to stables while one footman came to guide you into the town hall.

You were one of the first people in the meeting room. Two other men were already there with their assistants. Both men greeted you with nods and you continued to wait for the rest of the people to arrive as you sat down and placed your helmet on the table.

More people arrived shortly. You recognized Ballador with another paladin with him, then came magistrate Henry Maleb and marshal Redpath and finally the last one to arrive who you recognized was prince Arthas with his assistant. He noticed that you were here and you noticed that he tried to not look at you at all. Finally it was Uther who arrived after everyone else had found a seat around the table.

Uther greeted you all and asked everyone to introduce themselves and how many soldiers they had brought. First was prince Arthas who sat closest to Uther and he had brought 5 knights and 20 footmen from Capital City. Captain Reginald of Regional Defenders of Hillsbrad had 20 footmen and 20 archers. Ballador and his aide Raleigh the True meanwhile commanded the Silver Hand force of 10 knights and 20 footmen. Marshal Redpath as the highest ranking militia leader in Hillsbrad had collected 10 footmen and 20 archers from the town garrisons of the region except Tarren Mill that couldn’t provide any and magistrate Maleb had organized the supply train with the help of local traders. As you sat furthest from Uther, you were last to introduce yourself.

“I am prince Alric Perenolde and I bring 40 footmen and 20 archers.” You said after having stood up.

There was a bit of murmur among the people in the room as you sat down.

“Thank you prince Alric.” Uther said and silenced the room. “And thank you for everyone who has arrived here. Our expedition is crucial for the safety and stability of the region and due to that I invited everyone who benefits from it. Looking at the people present, only Tarren Mill couldn’t provide troops due to their recent problems with bandits and the representative from Dalaran is late. And regarding that we shall leave when the representative arrives, so prepare to leave in short notice. When we reach Durnholde Keep, they are going to send a small force with us.”

Uther shuffled his papers and found the one he was looking for.

“But now we get to the reason why we are having this meeting, I wanted everyone to know who are participating and to discuss how we should deploy our forces.” He continued. “In total we have 15 knights, 110 footmen and 60 archers in addition to what Durnholde provides.”

“We should combine our troops together for a large decisive force.” Suggested Ballador.

“Sir Ballador, that is a good idea if all troops were of equal skill and equipment. Are the troops provided by Hillsbrad and Regional Defenders on the same level as Silver Hand or those from Capital City.” Said prince Arthas. “I suggest that we combine our troops with similar skills, that is Silver Hand and Capital City as one group and Hillsbrad and Regional Defenders as second group.”

“I can get behind that suggestion.” Said Captain Reginald and nodded. You noticed that Arthas didn’t even acknowledge you or your men even though you had brought most troops. Uther turned his head towards you and waited for your suggestion.

A single large force only works if the gnolls can be brought to open battle, but breaking down to individual commands could make us vulnerable to a defeat-in-detail if the gnolls can pick off the small groups one by one. We should form three groups to more effectively cover the area - if any one gets into battle, the other two move to back them up and hopefully catch the gnolls in a trap they cannot flee from. I'd suggest Arthas and Reginald for the first group, Ballador and Redpath for the second, and our own force as the third for an even split. We can update the arrangements further once we reach Dunholde and see what forces they'll add.

You thought about the books you had read about the generals of Alterac and the battles they had fought. How the fighting in the mountain passes of Alterac had gone, how battles were won and how this could be applied to current situation. You didn’t say anything for a few moments and the people in the room gave you a curious looks.

“A single large force can only work if the gnolls can be brought to an open battle, but breaking down to individual commands could make us vulnerable to be defeated in a series of smaller battles if the gnolls could pick off the small groups one by one. We shouldn’t divide our forces too much due to this. We should form three groups which could more effectively cover the area and if any other group gets attacked, they could quickly provide support to each other and defeat the attackers. I’d suggest prince Arthas and captain Reginald in first group, Ballador and marshal Redpath for the second and my force as the third group for an even split. When we reach Durnholde and see what forces they provide, we can update this arrangement.” You finally spoke.

Uther gave you a faint smile of appreciation and nodded.

“Prince Alric has a good idea and it fits the experiences I have of war. If there are those who disagree, please say nay.” Uther said.

“Nay.” Came the voice of Arthas immediately.”I won’t support this. Our best troops have to be together to win the battle quickly.”

You knew that he opposed your idea by the principle of it being your idea. You didn’t have time to say anything as Uther spoke first.

“Prince Arthas, we can discuss the troop split more when we reach Durnholde Keep, but the general idea is something we can work with.”

“Yes Uther, let’s decide the details later.” Arthas said with a bit of defeat in his voice.

“Good, that is decided then.” Uther said. “Next we will talk about more mundane things, please magistrate Maleb can you please tell us about the supply train.”

The meeting continued for a few hours as the plans regarding further supply on the field, is foraging allowed, the plans on how to build the camps and so on. It was rather meticulous planning and discussion, but with good planning you can avoid problems or have them have a smaller impact.

After the meeting was over, all troops were ordered into the camp and told to ready themselves for the march. When the representative of Dalaran arrives, the order to break the camp should happen after it or next morning if it is too late into the day. With these orders the troops prepared their gear, equipment was packed and final checks were being done. You could stay in the camp and prepare, but you could also go to Southshore to do something.

You decided to go see the blacksmiths of Southshore. While you didn’t have enough coins for a new armour, you hoped that the blacksmiths and armourers could humour you and show different possibilities to purchase in the future. You also wished to appraise the silvery rondel dagger you found from the kobold cave. You told Cromwell where you were going and left your camp under his supervision.

The blacksmiths of Southshore were all quartered near the docks where they could provide the ships and traders with all metal work they required. Dismounting Epona, you left her into the care of the two footmen Cromwell sent to escort you.

The door to the blacksmiths quarter was open and you walked inside. While it was the evening already, there were still few smiths working on their crafts, but most workshops seemed to be empty or closed. You asked a few of the workers for directions and they guided you to the right place to ask your questions. It was the office of the Southshores blacksmiths guild.

“How may I help you sir knight?” Asked the man in the office as you entered it. He didn’t recognize you immediately, but in a moment you saw his eyes expressing surprise and he stood up and gave a bow. “Prince Alric, terribly sorry for not recognizing you. How may the guild help you.”

“I want to appraise this dagger I found and I would like to look at the armours your guild can produce, my own isn’t in the best shape.” You said and took out the rondel dagger.

The man put on some thin gloves and took the rondel dagger. He evaluated it quickly and placed it on the table.

“This is a good dagger, really well made. I will go check if one of our mastersmiths is still here, he knows more about the daggers than I know.”

The man disappeared into the backroom and shortly came back with another man who was older and had an impressive bushy moustache. The man carried a small wooden box with him which he opened that contained some lenses and other tools.

The guild representative told you that it would take him some time to properly appraise the dagger, he wouldn’t want to do a bad job when a prince was his customer. Meanwhile we could go to see the armours.

You walked past different workshops and finally reached the workshop where different armours were made. There were several completed suits of armour and few not finished ones in the workshop with few workers and smiths still working on something or cleaning the place.

“We can be proud of our smiths here in Southshore. After the Second War our city grew a lot and the services of smiths were needed. And when the city grew the need to maintain a garrison and produce arms and armour for them happened. We were lucky for several of our smiths being refugees from Stormwind and they knew how to make armour. While we are not on the level of the dwarven of Ironforge or Aerie Peak or the elegance of elven craftwork from Quel'Thalas, we will match the quality of the master smiths from Capital City.” The man spoke with pride.

He called one of the smiths to look at your current armour. It didn’t take long for the smith to check your current old half-plate. The armour was still serviceable and would provide protection. Few leather straps would require replacement and few dents could be removed, but there were no structural weaknesses that the smith could see.

He walked you through the workshop and showed you different types of armour. First was a half-plate that gave good protection from blows, but was light and didn’t slow down or tire the user that much. Second was a full-plate done in a style of armours from Stormwind, it would provide better protection, but wasn’t as light as the half-plate. Third was knightly plate made for cavalry and it had emphasis on protecting legs and having a lance rest. Fourth and final armour was something he called to be a masterwork. Really well made armour that gave really good protection while still having a mobility of a lighter armour.

You didn’t have any excess wealth and your current half-plate was still good enough and not broken. With the blacksmith being built in The Headland, the smiths there could repair your armour. You told the smiths that you wouldn’t have time to take the measurements now or make the decision as you would leave Southshore very soon for a campaign, but it was good to have the options known for the future. The smiths understood it and told you that they would have time for you reserved anytime in the future.

Offered armour from Southshore:
>Half-plate, 1 Wealth, lighter and nimbler armour on level of normal footmen armour
>Full-plate, 1 Wealth, better protection than standard armour of footmen
>Knightly plate, 3 Wealth, good protection and suitable for knights on horseback
>Masterwork plate. 5 Wealth, really good protection with good mobility of the lighter armours

You returned back to the office where the smith had finished appraising and cleaning the dagger and he had good news. The rondel dagger with ornate silvery handle was made by a known mastersmith about 200 years ago in the Capital City and was of masterwork quality. The smith had cleaned and carefully sharpened it which made it practically gleam in the light of a lantern. The smith then took a gem from his tool box and moved it closer to the dagger. The small slightly red gem started to shimmer with tiny amounts of light as it got close to the dagger. The smith explained that the gem reacted to magic by glowing and that the dagger had some magical properties. Sadly the smith couldn’t tell you what properties as he wasn’t a mage or enchanter.

This was a positive surprise, magical properties on this dagger. The smith told you that he could buy the dagger from you for 3 Wealth. He explained the value of it first by it being a masterwork and second for it having magical properties. The value could be higher if the magical properties were known.

You could sell the dagger now, but it also had magical properties and the idea of owning a magical weapon, be it just a dagger, intrigued you. You could maybe find someone who could tell you what magical effects it has and then maybe get a better price for it.

“Sorry, I won’t sell it. But thank you for appraising it and thank you for showing the armours to me. But now I must go, the camp most likely needs me as it is evening already.” You said and excused yourself from the blacksmith’s district.

So a magical dagger, now this was an interesting weapon.

...

You returned to the camp and while it was late and the sun had set, the soldiers were still working and packing their gear. When you arrived at your own portion of the camp, you heard the reason why. The representative from Dalaran had arrived and the order had come from Uther that the force would break the camp and leave before sunrise. Cromwell had taken the initiative and ordered the camp to be packed as much as possible and that troops should start to rest as tomorrow would be full of marching.

It was the smart thing to do, you should catch as much rest as possible. Tomorrow would be spent by marching to Durnholde Keep.

One of the footmen woke you up very early into the morning. With his help you put on your armour and after that ate a quick breakfast. The tents were dismantled and packed into the ox cart The soldiers lifted up their backpacks and checked all the straps. Your force was ready to go.

It took the rest of the camp a bit longer to get their things ready and the sun had already gotten up. In the damp morning air they laboured until every single soldier was ready. You saw Uther riding around the forces checking them and when he reached your troops he stopped.

“Prince Alric, you and your men will take the rear. In front of you will be the supply train and leading the march will be Silver Hand. Understood?” Uther said from horseback.

“Understood Lord Uther.”

Rear position during a march with the supply train in front of you could be taken as a slight. The commander of the force doesn’t trust you on the frontlines. But you are rather content with this decision, you could just follow everyone else and not worry about leading the march.

As Uther rode back to front of the formation, you ordered the men to be ready and mounted Epona. Not many minutes later the formation was already moving. The march began.

It had been a few hours, but it was still morning. The damp cool air had dried and the sun was shining brightly. The weather was fine and the march had started swimmingly. There was just one problem, you were bored. You could go to talk to someone ahead in the formation or just stay in front of your men where you are supposed to be.

>Go see Uther and who the representative of Dalaran is
>Go ask prince Arthas what his problem is with you
>Go talk to captain Reginald and marshal Redpath, they are reasonable men

You had talked little bit with Redpath, but captain Reginald was someone who you didn’t know. Getting to know them better could be beneficial. You rode past the supply train and approached the two men who were riding ahead of their own troops. They were in the middle of some discussion when you interrupted them.

“Good morning marshal Redpath, captain Reginald.” You said.

“Good morning prince Alric, we were in the middle of discussing the fine differences in shield designs, what do you have in mind?.” Asked Reginald.

“Mostly just to have a chat and ask what do you think about the expedition.” You said back.

“For the safety of the region. Rarely gnolls have been this bold.” Redpath said

“True, not since the Second War we have seen anything like this. At first when we dealt with the remnants of the Orcish Horde yes, but when the lethargy hit the orcs, the fights were so much easier.” Reginald answered back.

“How do you think it will go? The expedition I mean.” You said back.

“We have numerical superiority, plate mail and knights of Silver Hand with us.” Redpath said. “Are you afraid that we would lose?”

“No, just that when we fought the gnolls with Lord Uther, the fighting wasn’t the easiest.” You said. “If they have more gnolls like Steelhead, the fighting won’t be easy.”

“Oh yes you killed Steelhead. Pretty impressive for a man of your age prince Alric.” Reginald said.

“Thank you captain Reginald.” You said and smiled a bit.

You continued talking with Redpath and Reginald for maybe an hour. You talked about how you grew up in Alterac City and how the last few years had gone for you in The Headland. told how he was there when Lothar and the refugees from Stormwind arrived. It was interesting to talk with people who had seen and participated in the war.

It took nearly the whole day to reach Durnholde Keep. The sun had nearly set when you saw the great walls and towers that made it one of the most defensible places here in Hillsbrad. The front gate was opened and the troops marched in. Being in the rear position in the march, you and your men were last to enter.

Footmen and archers wearing the tabards of both Lordaeron and Durnholde were on the battlements and you saw that Uther was speaking to a man with black hair and short black beard. The man was wearing rather fine clothes and you deduced that he must be lieutenant general Aedelas Blackmoore, the lord of Durnholde Keep and the Commander of the internment camps. Uther didn’t talk long with Blackmoore and soon you were being guided into the keep. The soldiers of the expedition were housed into a large barracks and after a not so long walk inside the keep, the clerk guiding you opened a door and gestured to you to go in.

The room wasn’t big, but it had everything a nice guest room requires. The bed looked comfortable, there was a table with few quills and empty scrolls for writing and sizeable cabinet for clothing or armour. Behind you came two workers that carried a small chest you had put your own belongings in, like your normal clothes and the book you hadn’t finished reading.

“Lord Blackmoore is hosting a dinner this evening. He had been waiting for your arrival and had prepared everything to be ready. He advised that our guests should wear what they feel to be most comfortable to them so no dress code. Someone will be sent to pick you up shortly.” The clerk said and excused himself.

You had just arrived at Durnholde and immediately there was dinner. It seems that Blackmoore wants to provide you with a good first impression. Now to just choose what impression you want to give. More martial by wearing your armour, or more casual and relaxed impression by wearing your normal clothes.

>Wear your armour into the dinner, show some martial aptitude
>Wear your normal day to day clothing, it is more casual choice fitting for a nobleman.

You thought for a moment that you could just wear your armour and not spend any time changing to your normal clothing, but it could be seen as too martial and more fitting for a common soldier. So you decided to go without the armour.

When putting on or removing armour, usually knights have someone assisting them, but you had done this so many times alone that only a few pieces required more work. It didn’t take long for the armour to be neatly placed into the cabinet. Next you removed your arming jacket and the trousers you use under your armour. The shirt you wore under the arming jacket was replaced by a fresh white undershirt. You put on your brown breeches that you tucked into your new riding boots and put on your brown leather jacket. It wasn’t the most classiest outfit, but you had kept good care of it and it was clean. You left your sword in your room, but decided to take the rondel dagger which you left on your belt. One final check on your outfit as you wiped your boots clean with a cleaning rag and checked your looks with a small mirror. Maybe you should think about shaving your tidy moustache?

You didn’t have to wait long before one of the clerks came to guide you to the dinner. It was a short walk down the twisting corridors and pathways of the keep to get into the place where the dinner was to be held.

A great hall was decorated with large flags of Lordaeron and tattered orcish banners, which you presumed to be trophies from the war. Captain Reginald had already arrived and he was wearing the uniform of Regional Defenders. He gave you a nod and continued talking with someone else you didn't know. You walked around the hall and looked at the orcish banners as you waited for everyone to arrive. The banners depicted a bleeding eye, wide black grin and a red mountain. You didn’t know much about the orcs or their clans, but maybe you could see the famous pet orc Blackmoore is known to have.

Uther joined not long after and with him were the two other paladins. Ballador and Raleigh the True were both wearing their armours just like Uther was. Uther saw you and gave you a small nod as they continued talking with each other.

Thankfully you didn’t have to wait long as Aedelas Blackmoore arrived and you saw him better. He had long black hair and a black beard that was kept tidy. His clothes were all fine looking and he carried a sword with an impressive hilt. Blackmoore clearly wasn’t poor.

“Thank you to everyone for coming here. Let us enjoy my hospitality today and plan the extermination of gnolls tomorrow.” He said and gave a look across the room. “I do see a few faces that I don’t recognize. Lord Uther visited us a few months ago, but you I don’t recognize.”

Blackmoore was looking at you and he clearly waited for an answer.

“I am prince Alric Perenolde, pleased to meet you lord Blackmoore.” You said and gave a slight bow that is given when a prince greets a lord.

“P-perenolde!” Blackmoore stuttered in a shock and turned towards Uther. “Lord Uther, why is there a Perenolde in my keep?”

“I invited him to join the expedition lord Blackmoore.” Uther said with a smile.

“Well then, I will trust your word lord Uther.” Blackmoore said as he regained his composure quickly. “Then I must ask, what does a long missing Alteraci prince want, why would you resurface after all these years?”

“Alteraci people don’t have a place they could call home so I intend to reclaim my home.”

“To reclaim Alterac City. Wasn’t it the ogres who controlled the place nowadays?” Blackmoore asked.

“Yes, ogres from the Crushridge clan.” You answered.

“Shame, we never could put the ogres into the internment camps. The lethargy that struck the orcs never affected them so we couldn’t force them into the camps. And even if we managed to catch a few, the ogres are strong enough to break the chains and escape.” Blackmoore mused.

“You have done great work with the camps lord Blackmoore.” Said marshal Redpath who had arrived a few minutes ago. “Not that many orcs remain outside the camps and those who are inside haven’t escaped.”

“If the orcs don’t escape or even try to escape, why are we paying so much taxes for the camps?” Ballador asked. “With those taxes we could fund Silver Hand better, so that we could have more knights and more paladins. The threats like the gnolls would be eradicated much faster.”

“You are not wrong Ballador, but we do not know if the orcs could heal their lethargy and one day get out of their camps. And if that were to happen, we need those taxes to pay for the troops. It has been a thorn between the kingdoms of the Alliance since the start of the camp system.” Uther said.

“It is something we must do, for the safety of Lordaeron.” Blackmoore said with pride in his voice.

“Do what?” Came the voice of Arthas who had just arrived into the room and with him was the person who matched the description of ‘mage of Dalaran’.

“Ahh prince Arthas, welcome back to Durnholde.” Blackmoore said. “And may I ask who is your companion?”

The companion removed her hood and revealed long blond hair. She was wearing a white dress and a white shirt that revealed her midriff. On her shoulders were pauldrons made for mages to which a large violet cloak and hood was attached. She was someone you could describe as beautiful.

“I am lady Jaina Proudmoore. Lord Antonidas sent me to assist lord Uther in this expedition and to lend my skills.”

“And she is a very skilled mage, a prodigy even.” Arthas praised her.

“Pleased to meet you lady Proudmoore. If I knew that the heir of Kul Tiras would be coming, I would have prepared better for this evening.” Blackmoore said. “Now that everyone is here, please find a place around the table, my servants will bring the food shortly.”

With that the people started to find seats. Uther and the paladins sat all together, captain Reginald and marshal Redpath went to sit with a man wearing Durnholdes tabard and Arthas and Jaina sat together. Lord Blackmoore meanwhile took the seat at the end of the table as the lord of the keep.

Jaina and Arthas sat next to each other and you decided to join them. The table wasn’t that wide so when you sat down opposite of them, you could talk to them without raising your voice.

“Why did you sit there?” Asked Arthas with annoyance in his voice.”

“To properly introduce myself, you arrived here slightly after I introduced myself to lord Blackmoore.” You explained and smiled to the question Arthas asked. “I am prince Alric Perenolde.”

“A Perenolde?” Jaina gasped. “You mean the Perenoldes of Alterac?”

“The one and same.” You said and smiled. “I am the second son of king Aiden Perenolde.”

“Pleasure to meet you. Jaina Proudmoore.” Jaina said and reached over the table to shake your hand. “Not that often I get to meet other princes.”

“I presume you and prince Arthas knew each other already?” You asked.

“We met a few years ago in Capital City when I was on my way to Dalaran to study magic.”

“And you mentioned lord Antonidas? Is he your teacher?”

“Yes, lord Antonidas is a strict teacher, but he is a good teacher.” Jaina said. “Lord Antonidas doesn’t take that many apprentices.”

“As I said, a prodigy.” Arthas remarked.

“I would like to meet lord Antonidas one day. When I was a child I heard stories how wise and strong he is a mage, but I don’t think lord Antonidas would think about me or my family in high regard. From what I know, Alterac and Dalaran have always been slightly antagonistic towards each other. Be it just border disputes or what my father did.” You said.

“What did your father do?” Jaina asked bit baffled.

“During the Second War, he ordered a group of mages and peasants to be kidnapped. To my knowledge they were saved during the fighting.” You said.

“Your father was a betrayer for ordering that to happen. Siding with orcs while humanity was under an existential threat.” Arthas remarked again with a bit of anger in his voice.

“I can’t defend what my father did, but I hope that I can be the better person than he was and make the correct choices in life.”

“Well said prince Alric.” Jaina said and smiled. “You shouldn’t blame the sons for their fathers crimes.”

This had been a rather pleasant conversation till this point and you hadn’t even noticed that the servants were bringing food to the table. There was boiled beef served with onions and carrots, a few different types of lighter pastries and for dessert some apple pie. As all of you started to take the food and eat, you still had questions in mind.

You had eaten a bit when you continued the conversation.

“What do you think of the expedition?” You asked and cut an onion in half.

“Well, I think this is a good cause.” Jaina said after thinking a bit. “I heard how Arthas and Uther had fought against the gnolls and defended Hillsbrad and its farmers.”

It seems that Arthas didn’t tell Jaina about how you were in the battle.

“We need to defeat the gnolls. If they are allowed to roam the land freely, the farmers and peasants are going to continue to suffer.” Arthas said and continued. “We fought against the gnolls and won.”

“Yes, we fought.” You said with a bit of snide in your voice. “The gnolls started to terrorize Hillsbrad during late spring and so that the farmers would be safe, I took my men and went patrolling. We managed to destroy a gnoll camp, freed a bunch of kidnapped farmers and then later came to help Uther and Arthas after the gnolls had attacked them.”

You noticed that Arthas gave you the ‘don’t say a word’ stare which Jaina didn’t see.

“And now we are here to continue what was left unfinished.” You said. “Arthas is correct, as long as the gnolls are allowed to do things freely, the farmers are going to suffer.”

“It must not be easy to be a prince and have people to take care of. A lot of responsibilities.” Jaina said.

“I can’t say what responsibilities prince Arthas has, but for me it is my people who are spread far and wide across the land.”

“Alterac is controlled by ogres.” Arthas said. “You have no kingdom to rule, you are just a claimant.”

“You are correct.” You sighed. “Alterac is controlled by ogres and bandits. I am a prince without a kingdom.”

“I am sorry to hear that.” Jaina said and to you that felt genuine.

“That is why I want to ask, have either of you heard about any threats in this region?”

“Nothing comes to my mind.” Said Arthas rather quickly.

Jaina thought for a moment as she continued eating.

“There are rumours amongst the mages of Dalaran that orcs who managed to avoid getting caught and put into camps are still hiding and are practicing their dark magics. But I am not privy of getting that information, just rumours.”

That was rather interesting. You knew that there are still orcs who avoided getting caught, but that they are still practicing their magics?

Rest of the dinner went rather well and you felt stuffed when you finished eating. You continued talking about more mundane and normal things with Jaina and Arthas, well you mainly talked with Jaina as Arthas didn’t have much to say to you. With beer and diluted wine being served, lord Blackmoore got drunker and drunker longer the dinner lasted and when it finished, he was to your eyes relatively drunk. Drunk, but functional drunk as he didn’t wobble or mangle his words when he told everyone that tomorrow morning there would be the meeting where the plans would be drawn for the operation against the gnolls. You drank the wine you had in your goblet, thanked both Jaina and Arthas for the dinner conversations and excused yourself from the hall.

That was a rather nice dinner, you thought as you went to your room and checked all your belongings. Nothing was misplaced or moved, no one had gone through your stuff. That was a relief and with that done, you went to sleep.

Next morning after washing your face and checking your clothes you went to the hall to eat breakfast. Uther was already there eating his breakfast. He greeted you and after you had managed to get some porridge and bread from the kitchen, you joined him.

“Good morning lord Uther.”

“Good morning prince Alric. Have you given any thought about the meeting in a few hours?”

In a few hours or when lord Blackmoore wakes up and is ready to host the meeting. But you haven’t thought about the meeting that much, mainly just how to fit the troops Durnholde provides to the expedition.

>How the troops Durnholde will provide would fit our current forces

Just to clarify, does Alric have any magical talent, either to arcane or the light? I'd like to find out if we could learn to harness it.
>>
>>4455224
Magic isn't learned early in life?
is not about talent, of course having a predisposition to it helps a lot, but is more like everyone can become a mage, just not everybody has the time or the possibility, that is why Dalaran exist, it is just a big university turned into a city
No idea about Holy magic though, maybe it is about beliefs? priest Hampton and the Paladins are all altruistic in nature.

But it would be better to focus on our existing abilities and just have some priests or mages at hand for our needs.

I think what we really need to ask lord Uther is what he thinks about us and all of the other leaders of the army. And lord Blackmoore and if he can be trusted to do his duty for we have most likely heard rumors about him and what he does to his pet orc Thrall.
And more than anything else we need to ask lord Uther if we and prince Arthas can ever come to terms with each other and learn to get along. And if not if there is anyway we can at least not piss him off even more when he becomes king.
>>

This has just poped in to my head and if it is stepping on your toes or just sounds stupid just tell me to knock it off and shut up if you want. But here goes nothing.
There are some things that i think we can build one day in our lands that can help a lot. My first idea is a guard house that can be used to upgrade Militia units into Town Guard units that can not only protect there settlements better than Militia but give other benefits to the town they are in as well.
The second building is the observatory that would most likely be the first step in the chain to getting Mage units in our army's. But truth be told i do not know what the first stage observatory can give a settlement.
The third building or to be more precise new buildings that we most likely will only get if we help thrall and the frost wolfs clan of orcs before they no longer need us. Is the shamanism and elemental lines of tech that we can only get by convincing the Alliance that the best thing we can do with the orcs is to free the orcs from the interment camps and send them to us in Alterac. So they can be integrated in to the Alliance and the other kingdoms no longer have to pat tax's to keep the interment camps running. This will also help the orcs fix there problems and get back to there root as a shamanistic people with out having to go to war to get there freedom.
>>
>>4455130
>About the gnolls and layout of the land we're going to be fighting in...

>>4455612
While I'd like to see Frostwolf becoming a partner and perhaps an ally, rather than another hostile faction to contend with, our history will make it very difficult for us to not get Garithos'd if we make friendly with them.
I suspect we'd need to go a long way proving our good intentions to rest of the Alliance to get away with fraternizing with Orcs, both with them being a recognized menace and our traitor's brand.

I'm not sure to what extent we're in character aware of how orcs are treated, or about their culture and the fel/shamanism divide.
>>
>>4455627
Well we live right next to the orc internment camps and we most likely have heard rumors about Thrall and the gladiator pit in Durnholde Keep. So we must know that fucked up things are happening to the orcs in the camps.
And then there the fact that we have been running and hiding from the Alliance for most of our young life. And the thought of being trapped in a cage for the rest of our lives is not only a fear we have because of what happened to our father. But it may be a point of sympathy for the orcs and what has happened to them.
>>
“Well what we are after is the camp or the base of the gnolls. The fighting will be more difficult than the fight we had on the road, or our attack on the gnoll camp.”

“Prince Alric, you are correct. The coming fight will be difficult, but we will win.” Uther said back.

“Lord Uther, due to your longer career as a soldier, you probably have more experience in fighting against gnolls and other similar beasts.” You said. “Do you have any idea what we will be facing?”

“Well the gnolls we faced and their leader in the light of current information were just a raiding party. So we must expect more gnolls and fighters on level with Steelhead.”

“Harder fighting then.”

“A lot harder. But we have the advantage of plate mail and well-forged weapons, the gnolls lack the expertise to produce arms and armour of good quality. They use whatever scrap they find. And as long as our men stay in formation and can support each other, the gnolls can’t break them. And if the leader of the gnolls is found, it will be better to leave it to us paladins or if forced to fight, you shouldn’t do it alone.”

You nodded and agreed on what Uther said.

“You are a good fighter prince Alric, but there are many who are better than you. Do not take risks that are too high, for you have a lot to learn. And I say this as a warrior to another warrior.”

“You are correct lord Uther, I know I have a lot to learn.”

“It is good to be humble, but being too humble can also be bad.” Uther said. “But I have eaten my breakfast and now I will leave for a moment and join the meeting when it starts.”

Uther left you alone to eat your breakfast.

Bit more than two hours had passed since the breakfast for the meeting to start. Lord Blackmoore smelled like old booze, but he powered through his hangover. Now in the dining hall was everyone from yesterday's dinner and a large group of officers from the expedition including your Cromwell and others. Seeing that everyone invited was in the room, lord Blackmoore spoke.

“Gentlemen and lady, welcome to Durnholde. In this meeting we will plan the attack against the gnolls. Langston, can you please continue.”

“Yes lord Blackmoore. I am Karramyn Langston, the aide and assistant of lord Blackmoore and I will act as the leader of the troops Durnholde will provide. Durnholde will provide 50 footmen and 10 knights from its own garrison and gathered from the guards of the internment camps. In addition of this, due to the operation happening in the lands governed by Durnholde and of the internment camps, lord Blackmoore demands that the expedition's leader should be him.”

This demand caused murmur among the crowd and you gave a questioning look towards Blackmoore and then towards Uther which he noticed.

Alric hasn't manifested any signs of having magical abilities or aptitude. It can happen later in life, but the chance for it to happen grows smaller older you get. Your older sister Beve Perenolde is a mage, but she had the aptitude for it. Or at least that is my understanding of Warcraft lore. Holy Light meanwhile is something you can learn to harness, as long as you are pious and follow the teachings of church. Majority of the paladins didn't have their powers before they started their training of which prince Arthas is an example. He is training to be a paladin.

>>4455612
Both are ideas that I will put into my notes. The guard house could work, but to me militia are just your basic weekend warriors drafted from free peasants. Anything better than them would go into footmen territory.

The observatory/mage tower could also work, but what would Dalaran think about that? But worry not, magic is something I have planned to poke more on later.

>>4455627
You know enough that the orcs were hunted and put into the camps after the Second War and a strange lethargy struck them that caused them to become docile and not aggressive. But you haven't seen a camp from inside, just a glimpse of the palisade walls.

other commanders signed in for Uther, not Blackmoore. Silver Hand operation getting taken over by him would also be bad for its status and reputation which is in itself an Alliance asset. And last but not least, powering or not, Blackmoore is fucking drunk and our men are too valuable to be put into chain of command with a drunk on top.

We have to keep everyone calm and unified as this can spiral out of control way to fast if we do not stop this now. The real problem is that everyone may just tell Lord Blackmoore to go fuck him self and then they all go home so he is fucked.
If that happens than Lord Blackmoore may just hold up in Durnholde keep and hope that the gnolls just leave. That would leave it up to us and our men to stop the gnolls or else they will start to raid our lands as well as Lord Blackmoores. If we have to we may have to beg both Jaina and Arthas to help us keep everyone together or else it will all fall apart.
We may want Uther in-charge as he is the most competent warrior here. But we may have to give ground Lord Blackmoore digs in his heals about this point as he can fuck it all up.
The best thing to happen at this point may be just to have Arthas pull rank as prince and take charge to Lord Blackmoore has to give in to the crown.
>>
>>4455698
The thing about the observatory at its first stage is that it will most likely not have any magic to it at all. And will only have Dwarf and Gnome tech in it at first. Such as the telescope and what not so as to study the stars. I think it will be at later stages in its development that it starts to attract mages as it may develop in to more than just a observatory and may be a university or a lab that study's everything.

But if the militia are nothing more than weekend warriors what happens when they are upgraded to elite status? And what do they look like at that point?

Sensing that no one else was going to speak and waiting would just cause an awkward atmosphere in the hall, you decided to speak first.

“Lord Blackmoore, I do not see that being a wise choice.” You said after having stood up. “Lord Uther is a respected warrior and field commander. Transferring the command this late into the expedition could cause problems in the field as we aren’t familiar with how you command troops.”

Blackmoore didn’t say anything as he just watched you curiously.

“In addition most of us in this expedition have fought or trained with lord Uther before. We are familiar with his style.” You continued and there was a bit of agreeing nods in the hall.

“You are bold man prince Alric for disagreeing with the lord of the land.” Blackmoore said. “But I will concede, you have a good reasoning. But I will demand the Durnholde men to be kept in their own group and not split.”

“I think that is agreeable.” Said Uther. “We should next decide how the forces should be split.”

The discussion and planning continued for over an hour with different possibilities argued for and argued against. Blackmoore didn’t participate in the discussion that much, but meanwhile Uther had clearly talked with other officers and he was very heavily pushing for a more equal split. Interestingly Prince Arthas didn’t say much either, maybe Uther had spoken with him in private.

In the end it was decided that the troops would form four different groups. First group would be the Silver Hand and the troops from the Capital City. They would act as the hammer that engages the enemy. Regional Defenders and the gathered guards would form the somewhat slower reserve that would move to reinforce whoever needs help. Finally the men from Durnholde and your forces would act as two sweeping groups that would advance first and fix the enemy into a battle, allowing the reinforcements and the hammer to destroy them.

This wasn’t the most optimal plan in your opinion, but it should work. At least you were able to keep your men together.

Silver Hand, 10 knights and 20 footmen
Capital City, 5 knights and 20 footmen

The day had turned to afternoon and now you had time to do something. Uther had advised that everyone should prepare for the coming fight as tomorrow morning the troops would leave the safety of Durnholde Keep. But same time you could do something else that you find useful to yourself.

You decided to spar with your troops as you haven’t done it properly for some time. It has been either patrols, actual fighting or your recent studies on warfare that has taken your time. Having put on your armour, you found your way to outside and towards the training yard where dozens of soldiers were doing some training.

Small group of your footmen were doing some light sparring when you joined them. Lieutenant Beckston was leading a demonstration on how to defend against someone dual wielding weapons and you decided to join it. He went through common mistakes those who dual wield weapons usually do and then showed different tricks how someone with two weapons can get past the shield and a sword. When it was your turn to fight against Beckston, for the first few times his experience in this style allowed him to win, but soon you managed to catch the idea of this style and made sparring against him easier. No more he could so easily get past the shield and sword.

As the sparring continued, you went from footmen to footmen. Kul Tirans were the most tricky to fight mainly due to their preference of dual wielding, Stromgarde Guard was the most professional and required a careful and skilled approach. Going from opponent to opponent was a refreshing change compared to the fighting you have had with both gnolls and bandits. You had to think of different ways to defeat your sparring partners and this forced you to improvise and try things.

After going through the opponents, finally you met someone who you had wanted to spar with for some time. Sergeant Cromwell went into a low ready stance in front of you and prepared for the sparring.

“Prince Alric, shall we spar?” He asked.

You didn’t have to say anything as you mirrored his stance.

You took a few steps forward and raised your sword up as you changed your stance. You prepared to be the one that strikes first, but it was Cromwell who did the first move. With two quick steps he closed the distance and he tried to stab you with the wooden training sword. You blocked the strike with your own training sword, but he had anticipated it and just carefully tapped it before trying to get around it with another stab. You had to block the second strike with your shield before going for counter attack which Cromwell easily blocked as he drew his sword back.

The first three touches were just seeing how the other would react. Cromwell hadn’t tried anything fancy yet, but it was clear that he wouldn’t be an easy opponent. He went for another attack this time with a downward swing which you dodged by stepping back and then knocked it away and went for riposte which was blocked by his shield.

You continued this exchange for several passes before he feigned an attack and got you going for a counter. You barely managed to block his attempt at hitting you as you overextended, but he didn’t expect you to two-hand your training sword and with a twist you locked his sword between your arm and breastplate. You tried to wrestle it out of his hand, but this time it was you who didn’t expect the next move. He kicked really hard at the corner of your shield, which knocked your hand enough for him to be able to pull his training sword out.

“Pretty smart move prince Alric to try to trap my sword.” He said and before you could say anything back, he came at you again with this time using more strength.

He forced you to parry strike after strike with either of your sword or your shield. He had realized that he couldn’t just use normal tricks against you so with pure power and forcing a breakthrough he probably could win. But how he did his strikes was quite methodical, all moves were clean, but you saw that how he did them always followed this pattern. And with all patterns there is a tiny moment to break it.

When his next strike came, you easily parried it with your sword and when you pushed it away you mid movement went for a riposte. Cromwell reacted to it and blocked it, but the moment your training sword tapped his you went for another riposte. He managed to block the attack for a second time, but as you moved forward with a slight tap on his sword you twisted your training sword around his and the tip of your training sword found itself touching the mail protecting the right armpit. He knew and you knew that if the sword was real, its tip could have easily punched through the mail and potentially cut into the blood vessels.

“I think I won.” You said as you caught your breath. This was one of the best sparring sessions you have ever had. Cromwell was a superb opponent.

“That you did, thank you for the sparring.” Cromwell said as both of you relaxed and put your training swords away.

You had rested for a moment when some commotion started to happen on the other side of the training yard. Small groups of soldiers had gone to see what was going on and you decided to join to see what was going on. The pet orc lord Blackmoore had been brought outside to spar against a small group of Durnholde footmen.

The orc was bigger than the gnoll chief Steelhead you had fought, its large green muscular frame reminded you a bit of the drawings you had seen in a few books, but to be honest he looked even more impressive than those drawings. His long black hair responded to every movement as it fought against the footmen with a wooden training sword and managed to keep them away.

“Impressive creature, isn’t it.” Said Karramyn Langston who had arrived next to you.

“Never seen anything like it.” You said back to him.

“Oh yes, you were too young when the Second War happened.” He said and continued. “Lord Blackmoore found it when it was just a baby and he decided to take care of it and train it to be a successful gladiator. A prizefighter without equal.”

“What is its name? Surely it was given one?” You asked as you watched the orc disarm one footman and throw second on the ground.

“The name is Thrall. Name is to remind it of its place in this world.” Langston said as three new footmen joined the training fight. Now with five footmen against it, the orc started to have problems keeping everyone away and strike here and there got through his defence. The strikes must have hurt a lot, but the orc didn’t even flinch as it turned and engaged the one that had hit it. The footmen weren’t that skilled and their inexpertise showed, but their numbers triumphed in the end as they got the orc down on one of its knee.

A second group of footmen prepared for their attempt at bringing down the winded orc when Langston turned towards you and asked a question.

“Prince Alric, do you want to spar with the orc?”

You gave it a quick thought and then decided that sparring with the orc could be nice. You weren’t that tired from the earlier sparring and you didn’t feel hurt. It had been some time since the fight with Steelhead and you felt that you needed a challenge.

“I could yes. I haven’t had a challenge like this.” You said back to Langston.

“I will arrange it then.” He said back to you and moved to talk with the leader of the footmen.

Cromwell who had followed to see what was going on leaned towards you and spoke with low voice.

“Sire, I don’t like this. Orcs aren’t opponents to underestimate.”

“I don’t underestimate the orc, but this is a perfect chance to fight and learn against something that my generation hasn’t faced.” You said back to Cromwell.

“I hope you are right.” He said back to you.

The footmen moved away from the orc who curiously started to look around for what was going on.

“You may go now.” Langston said after having given instructions to the Durnholde men.

You approached the spot where the previous training had happened and turned to face the orc. The crowd murmured due to this and more people came to see what was going on. The orc was still on the ground breathing heavily as it studied you.

“Thrall this is your opponent now, continue sparring with him.” Came a shout from the leader of the footmen. The orc gave a nod and lifted itself up and brandished his training sword.

You stretched your arms and legs before lowering your bascinets visor and readied yourself. The orc didn’t lift its sword up and you countered it by switching into better stance which was the signal for the orc to attack.

With a loud cry the orc charged. It was frankly a terrifying sight as the orc was clearly larger and muscular than you were, from pure size and strength point of view the orc would easily win, but the way it held its sword was to you flawed. More strength and less finesse.

This idea was immediately tested as the orc tried to hit you with a strong downward strike. When you blocked the strike with your sword, you nearly lost your grip on its hilt. The strike had so much power behind it that it made you stumble a bit before you managed to push it away from you. You planned on striking now as the orcs swords momentum was towards the ground, but to your surprise the orc quickly recovered and tried again to attack you. This time you were a bit more ready and blocked it with your shield before trying to counter with a stab. For the second time the orc managed to surprise you as it easily dodged the stab by taking a few quick steps back.

There was a short pause as both of you took a few steps and tried to find an opening. The orc was both fast and strong, but it was also smart. It wouldn’t be anything like you had fought before.

This time you took the initiative and charged the orc. The first strike was blocked by the orc and you tried to continue with a second quick slash, but even it was blocked. The orc tried to hit you in retaliation, but you blocked it easily with your shield. You continued to exchange strikes between two of you. The orc couldn’t get through your sword and shield and you couldn’t land a hit as the orc either blocked it or moved surprisingly fast. This time a short break came when the orcs training sword broke into splinters as you blocked it with the shield.

New training sword was thrown for the orc and you allowed it to pick it up without you attacking. It had picked it up and stood back up when you gave it a small nod to tell that you are ready. You saw the orcs eyes open a bit when you nodded and it gave a small nod back to you. You now knew that normal tactics wouldn’t work as the opponent wasn’t human or a creature like gnolls or kobolds.

The orc charged and again you blocked its attack. Second, third and fourth attacks had the same story as the orc tried to get through your defence with quick strikes. You pushed the fifth attack away and tried to go for a counter, but your attack was easily blocked. The exhaustion started to slowly kick in and you knew that you must end this fight as soon as possible.

Few more strikes came from the orc with you attempting to counter them, but without much success. Finally a chance for a good counter came. The orc tried to hit you with a strong downward strike that you blocked and caught with the guard of your sword. With your left hand you guided the flat of your sword on top of the orcs sword and with a grunt you managed to leverage it out of its hand. The orc was surprised as the training sword fell on the ground and your punch connected on its jaw that staggered it. This gave you a chance to deliver a slash on its chest that if the sword was real and not a wooden training one, it would have cut the chest open, but now only a red scrape appeared. You followed it by striking the orc with your shield straight into its chest and putting all your remaining strength into it. The hit caused the orc to lose its balance and with a thump it crashed on ground.

You lowered your training sword and pointed its tip at the throat of the orc. This was just a symbolic move to show everyone that you had won.

>Step back, let the orc stand up on their own and give one more small nod in recognition of a good spar.

Helping him up is not a gesture we can afford even if we'd give the courtesy to another sparring partner.

This
But at the same time we tell him that this was a good bout and we would love to spar with him again as this was damn fun.

OP do you think we could one day make dog kennels that will let us train dogs as big as the wolfs that the orcs used to ride into combat. I think that big dogs will do much better in the mountains of our home than horses will.
Also do you think we can one day make dragon rousts that we can uses to attract dragon ally's. Or do the dragons see us as dirty orc fuckers that need to burn with our green skin slave masters.

You raised the training sword up and took a few steps back to give the orc some room. You had to raise the visor of your helmet to get air better as this sparring fight had pushed you to your limit. You watched as the orc clambered up and tried to massage the red print where the shield had hit. Having gotten up the orc watched you closely.

“It was a pleasure to spar with you.” You said and gave the orc a small nod. “I hope we can spar again in the future.”

To your small surprise the orc returned your nod with his own and you returned back to Cromwell and watched as the crowd that was watching started to disperse. You didn’t see Langston either, he had disappeared too.

“Are you well sir? That fight wasn’t like the light sparring we had.” He said.

“I am just a bit exhausted. I haven’t experienced nothing like this before.”

"Well at least the crowd liked it, they were cheering for you sire."

You hadn't noticed it as you had concentrated on the fight completely, you just close your mind to everything not related to the fight. As you were leaving the training yard, you looked back and saw the man who had given orders to the orc going through the fight and pointing out the mistakes. If you ever had a chance to spar again with the orc, you weren’t sure that the trick would work again. What a peculiar orc.

You had been maintaining your armour inside the keep alone for the past hour and had eaten some food. Just few servants had walked past you so you had managed to find a rather nice and quiet spot to be in. To you this meticulous work was calming and something you liked to do. Carefully cleaning the plate and the mail, checking the leather straps and now brushing the lion pelt clean.

“I heard what you did prince Alric.” Came the clear voice of Uther who had came to the room. “What were you thinking, going fighting against that orc the day before we leave for the expedition.”

Horses are the main mounts of humans in Warcraft, but I am not going to shoot down the idea of taking the idea of a wolf mount. The world of Warcraft has quite large number of different animals that could be used as mounts so maybe you will get a chance for a wolf or some other animal as the mount.

The Dragon Roost won't most likely happen, the Red Dragons that were part of the Orcish Horde were controlled and enslaved by the Dragonmaw Clan and they were freed after the Second War. Recruiting or hiring dragons would be rather difficult if not impossible and if we end up in contact with dragons it will most likely be them who will use us for their own needs.

OK then what about a Rangers camp where elite human archers go to train with master elf rangers to learn there skills with the bow and the woods.

Or a knights chapter houses where elite knights go to train with the best knights in the land to become just as powerful as the Paladins but not because they use the power of the light. Because they do not use the light. But because they are such hardcore badass warriors that they can fight on the same level as Paladins.

"My fight with Steelhead made me realise I need to train against larger, stronger opponents more, and chances our we're going to face other gnolls like him. The spar was a perfect opportunity."

That was the most fun i have ever had. When can i fight an even bigger badder monster? Maybe a ogre or even a dragon. You have fought ogres and dragons before haven't you Uther can you tell me what it was like.

And know that i think of it i do not see any problem with working with the Red Dragon flight. They are some of the best people in all of the known world. I mean yeah they have some of the worst luck in the world as well but that is not there fault. The world just loves to shit on the dragons for some reason.
But if we make friends and help the dragons out with there problems than we will have some of the strongest ally's there are. As for the Dragon Roosts those would be built on our most defensible lands and would be owned and controlled by the Red Dragons. They would be used by the dragons to protect there eggs and young from all the things and assholes that want to kill them. As we help defend the Dragon Roosts the dragons help defend us and the lands around there Roost. They would work like the most powerful defensive towers that drastically improve the defense of the lands they are in.

“My fight against Steelhead made me realize how difficult fighting can get. And due to that I need to train against harder, stronger and bigger opponents, for there is a big chance for us to meet more gnolls like Steelhead.” You told Uther and continued. “I had a good teacher, but he taught me everything he knew. I now need to find ways to push myself forward.”

Uther listened to your reasoning with a serious look on his face.

"You are young prince Alric. You are not in a hurry to become a better fighter as these things will take time. You need patience and clarity of mind to not foolishly push yourself too hard." He said this time with a softer voice.

"I know that, but if I don't push myself and train, how can I say to myself that I am ready to serve my people."

"You now sound like prince Arthas. Too eager to do things. You must realize that by hurrying and worrying too much are the road to an early grave."

You closed your eyes and sighed deeply.

"Hmmm, you are correct lord Uther, but you do know what I am meaning?"

"I do. I have seen many people who have been like you. Some have mellowed out while some stayed just as eager. But enough of this, finish cleaning your armour and get rest. We will leave early tomorrow." Uther said and walked away.

You thought about what Uther said while cleaning the armour. Is he correct that you were too eager and kept pushing yourself too much. Maybe, maybe not. Still tomorrow you would lead the Alteraci into action once more.

Rest of the evening was spent in the barracks with your men and officers. You went through the plans and made sure that everything was ready. Rover had also managed to find a leather scroll pouch where you could stash the Scroll of Healing.

You ate with them and told them to get some rest as the time to wake up would be early and with that you left back to your own room in the keep. Few final checks that everything was where it should be and you went to bed after deciding to not read the book you hadn’t finished yet.

You were tired from the sparring, but you couldn't catch the sleep immediately as your thoughts were all concentrated on the next day and the fighting that would follow. Thankfully you managed to shake off those thoughts and fell asleep.

And that will be enough for thread number 3. We are on page 9 and this is a good point in story to stop this thread. I will make the thread 4 maybe on Sunday or Monday latest and I will post the link to it here, in /qtg/ and on my twitter. Thank you for playing and as always if you have comments or questions please go ahead and say them.

Also the thread is archived at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Alterac%20Resurgent%20Quest

Is arthas judging us based solely on his opinion of our father?

Could arthas be a bro?
Could Uther be a bro?
>>
>>4466041
Arthas is mostly judging us through the actions of our father and believes that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He sees Alric to be super suspicious for suddenly appearing and starting to collect troops and doing things, especially as rest of the Perenolde family is unaccounted for.

Uther meanwhile is more pragmatic and knows that while just arresting you and carrying you to Capital City would solve things, having you around to do things and helping to fight battles is beneficial and saves Silver Hand troops.

Could Arthas become a bro? Maybe you could get his respect. Will it be easy, not at all. For Uther it is the same thing, but his sense of duty while dangerous could also be useful to you.
