You are walking along, consulting your journal. It really is a handy way of keeping track of your quests, status and items.

A branch crunches under your foot.

You turn to see the EVERKING. It's hard to tell on account of his shimmering body, but you think he may have given you the slightest of nods.

"Fine new tools to do more good work.Perhaps not today, but soon."

"No mana or bullets here. But it may help you understand. What works here works there."

You fan the hammer on your revolver channelling the HELLS HEART spell through each bullet. Every shot fired ruptures it's target. The last two thugs shot are especially reduced to a red paste. Hit by a dwarfstopper and a trollstopper respectively.

The EVERKING makes a weird rattling scraping noise.

"All death is good. But this could hurt your join when you're not dreaming."

You stagger back and wince. Hissing short painful breathes between your teeth as your vision blurs. You can feel all but one point of your mana ebb from your body.

Just normal HAMMERTIME is fine too. So is KNEE CAP!

HIGHBALL has new tecniques also. All there in the wiki. Sorry for the boring but I wanted to tooth this out in a non combat session.

Anyway...

With a lot of care and effort you manage to lift Highball's leg off your stomach and gently slide out of bed. She stirs and murmurs but ultimately stays asleep. You pat her on the head and she makes a small chirping purr.

She can rest.

You've grown sufficiently accustomed to this ship that you can tell when it's moving, so you assume you're not quite at Kretch yet.

Highball, from memory, was not part of the away team this time anyway. Although that's hardly set in stone.

===============

GM: Sorry this session started late guys. It's actually about 4 am here and I'm kinda checking out. Please consider if there's anything you want to do aboard the ship.

>>
>>4445416
Its been a while, can you give a brief summary of what there is do on the ship? If I remember correctly, we ended last session having freed the town of those drug gangers, but still have a troll to deal with who heads their operation. also we accidentally intercepted an agent of the Old Guard, which might be worth worrying about since this company used to do things for them. And we are currently on heading for Kretch, where a wizardess named Jorn Tauloppo might be who was related to the town we saved. They also likely did her wrong, so she might not be totally evil.
>>
>>4445448
This, a general check around to see how people are doing would be good.
>>
>>4445416
We might want to talk to Mike and/or Surrey if we go with the plan to have him and HB snooping around Kretch by themselves while we do our own thing with the party. A way to alert us (mutter bottles, flares, colored smoke bombs, vuvuzelas), if there is danger so we can come assist those who run solo would not hurt I imagine.

QM: Since you only just levelled up, there's no activities to do around the ship that hold a mechanical benefit to you, presently.

Your summary of the present situation is basically spot on. Your heading to Kretch because assuming Jorn and Edgewater parted ways once they found out you'd killed most of their dudes, Kretch seems like the most likely place Jorn could have got to in time - based on peoples assessment of her character. There's no guarantees that she's there but you thought it was worth a shot. Good or bad you want to talk to her.

No one has been to Kretch recently but because it is a walled in, VERY heavily guarded city they assume its one of the few places the OLD GUARD have no presence. Their cover would have to be incredibly deep.

Tentatively, you plan to go down with one away team and have Mike and Highball scout around separately. You can either arrange a rendezvous point with them, set up a signal or give them the other mutterbottle (currently held by LUMSDEN the ships captain)

Besides assembling a team and fine tuning strategy, you can also discuss recent events or find out more about certain things when you talk to crew members. Richter seems to know more about Jorn than most people, even if her info is second hand, Burstock knows a little about magic, Mike knows a little more about mobs etc.

Your crew members should be in their rooms or at their posts.

QM: Also, this is not a bad time to sort your items.

What's in your pockets can be accessed any time:

Revolver (5 Normal bullets 1 Trollstopper)

Speedloader (4 Normal Bullets, 1 Troll Stopper, 1 Dwarf Stopper)

1 Small Health Potion

1 mana potion

1 dwarfstopper

1 Burnsauce

Ravenbar (super crowbar)

Mutterbottle

2 Books of Matches

Grink Rak

Grink Cherry

15220 Gold

[A good selection, but while unlikely to be a problem, that is a LOT of cash to just carry around]

What is in your backpack. You have it with you and the capacity is huge but it takes a turn rummaging if you want to use anything from it in combat.

34 Bullets

2 Sticks of Dynamite

Rope (10 ft)

Fist Sized Sapphire

1 Burnsauce

1 Glowbottle

Vodkant

Journal

13 Perka pistols

3 cheeroots

1 Bottle Punt e Mes

1 Nowl porno scroll

1 Stocking

1 Bottle of sesame oil

You still have room in your backpack, though not a titanic amount. Some of this stuff, if you want, can be moved to the SAFE, the CRATE ROOM or your SIDE TABLE.

Or given to others if you think they'd want it.

The familiar whirring of the engines shifting position then idling shudders throughout the ship.

"There we go. Walking distance from Kretch. It's been a little while but I think they still recognise the old girl."

She glances back at you

"Is there something you need?"

>"Any chance you can tell us anything about a couple of the places here, like the bounty bar, Schvitz house, or 'say it with stuff'?"

"The client I was transporting was actually rambling a bit about both. The shvitz house is a deep cleaning bath and steam. Apparently it's just about the only thing that gets the smell of a Bet-Bet off you except time. That was it! They arrived to Kretch via Bet-Bet. Washed the smell off then went to the BOUNTY BAR. It's basically a small pub where folks can post bounties and rewards. Profitable if you're in the search and destroy game, I guess."

"We have on a good suspicion that Jorn is in Kretch. We have her general description, but don't know her exact location. Our best bet will be the hotel, but she might have other contacts in town so we need to ask around."
"She could have run foul with local law, either for her connection to Edgewater or for another reason. From what I understand you don't have to do much to get on guards shit list. In either case she could be held in either of the guard stations. Mikes got good senses, and could catch on intel without rousing suspicion and HB can't be noticed if she doesn't want to be. I'd like you to scout out the guardhouses if you can do so without problems."

Mike looks to Highball

"Got a preference, Nep?"

Highball jabs at the map.

You scope out the guard house closer to the door. There will be heavy rotation and the guys on guard duty will be flappin their gums more to relive boredom. I'll take the further one. The back alleys and dumpsters will allow me to spook around the place better."

Mike gives a thumbs up and closes his note book.

"Let's see what we can do, jefe."

As she and Richter descend the ladder, Highball runs over to you and kisses your cheek.

You smile at Highball

>"Every day I get to spend time with you is my lucky day, HB. Let's show 'em what we got."

Her ears perk up and she chrips.

You catch up to the other two on the ladder.

You can already see the guards of the gate to Kretch. One of them gives an okay signal up at the Silver Lining, then turns back towards you.

"Theoretical welcome to Kretch. No funny business, please. Hands where we can see them and state your business if you don't mind."

>"Please provide us with name of your chief community law enforcement officer and their address in case our company is forced to seek conflict resolution with local parties."

"We're all equals here. Only one with any power is the mayor. They specifically asked not to be identified to outsiders."

The guards eyes narrow.

"And if you have any issue with local parties you'd best ask them to take it outside the city walls. You start a fight here and we will end it. If you resolve a conflict here you do it nice"

The other guard pipes up

"Kretch is for good boys and girls."

The first guard nods back

"Exactly right. Speaking of which..."

The guard points at Burstock

"She doesn't look like one."

"She looks like a thot, though."

Burstock raises her voice.

"I AM a thot!"

There is a clink of armour as the guards startle a little.

"But that has nothing to do with my body shape or dress sense. Also, whose to say a thot can't still be a good person?!'

The guards exchange a glance.

"Well, I mean.."

You interrupt.

>"Hey, no it's good. You just be sure to tell whoever's trying to sell that house what could have been. Make sure you tell them why, too. We're going to - that's for sure."

The guards clamour

"Okay! Okay! Come in! But you'd better believe we're watching you."

You mosey as a team over to the Sufficient Western Hotel.

The town has a crisp clean air to it, but you see nothing but guards in it during your walk. Some of them seem to mutter something. Others speak in passing admiration on your groups fashion choices or weaponry.

There are a lot of Skvader about.

You enter the hotel

There is a one room lobby and door that seems to lead to the rooms.

A skeleton behind the desk turns towards you and nods before doing back to staring straight forward.

"YOOO! So.. you wan't to check in at the sweet pad, eh? Don't blame you. Is comfort and privacy good to go. Just put your gold in the box -50 gold per night and the room is yours for as long as you pay. The dirtbag behind the counter will then give you your keys.

additional problem with this: there are explosive crates there.

another idea could be to move our room stuff into the office.
+nice to have the boss horn available quickly, don't need to run to the other side of the ship to make announcements.
+it's weird that our/Chesapeake's room is on the other side of the floor from the executive washroom.
+it feels weird that we have three rooms that are mostly ours.

-he ends up sleeping next to the board room. if we're going to use a room for passengers, it feels weird having it there (since they won't be at all the meetings).
-our office looks less cool if it's also our bedroom.

You say your fond farewells to Karl and head back out the hall way. Your clothes are waiting for you neatly folded.

You stagger back out to meet the girls who are talking among themselves.

Burstock acknowledges you

"Anything good?"

>A. Nope. We still got time to kill let's grab a drink.
>B. I met someone but I didn't ask them about Jorn. They're just passing through so I figured they didn't know anything. Hey. Just outta nowhere - either of you guys cool with sharing your room?
>C. We gotta keep looking. Can't you use life magic or something?

Logically Jorn had to have finished by the time we got here from Fetts-Bets and we did not meet her on the way. This means that she either headed back to the hotel, or went to a place between here and Fetts, either the bar or House of Waffles. Correct if I'm wrong.

You flick out the map and place a page from your JOURNAL on it to help process your thoughts. Assuming that Jorn is constantly slightly ahead of your party, the path you guys ran between places limits where she could be now. You would have seen her otherwise.
>>
>>4447839
Hm. I say we head to the Bounty Bar on account of the fact that we'll be going to the House of Waffles in a bit anyway, via the centre of town if possible just to see what's going on there. Plus water features are cool.

If our route's accurate she could also be looking at the house for sale, but I dunno off the top of my head what she would want there.
>>
>>4447839
Let's keep following the logic train: After a long day of smelly travel, you stop by for a steam bath. Do you then head for A) a Drink or B) Food?

Personally I'd go for food, but that's just me. I'm okay with checking the bar as well.

>"We'd like to browse the bounty catalogue."

The mog gestures to the wall.

"Big ones this month. We have a Lich. Mad woman going by Splitrock. Wanted destroyed or sufficiently incapacitated that she can be be put in a lich-hold. Unsurprisingly, the reward on that is 80'000 gold.

Next we got a nameless elder dwarf. Got a pickaxe lodged in its head. It's been terrorising the communities that live in nearby forests. Only 5000 gold. But it's what they could scrape together.

Lastly we got Mandus Geef. Corporate crime. Underpaid and overworked his workers then fled to the Maja with drained company accounts. 40'000 gold. But I'm gonna throw in an extra 5 from my own stash if you catch that one. Good luck."

>"What's with the barrels buddy?"

"That's a place where you can rest your food and drinks while you doubtless discuss battle plans and ready your weapons. It's cool to re-use things right?"

"Well the Lich is gonna be a bitch to actually kill unless you destroy it's phylactery - but that's still possible I guess. if you can trap it - by like smashing it apart and keeping it's parts separate that could work too. Liches are hard core. I think this is actually a posting from the GTU that's how spooked people get."

"The dwarf needs to get killed. They were clear on that."

"The corporate criminal is a dead or alive bounty. You can turn them over to the proper authorities if you think for a second they'll actually be appropriately punished. That's kinda why I'm offering 5000 gold from my own stocks."

The mogwomp shows an uncharacteristic serious expression for his race

"Call it a personal conviction of mine."

>""We happen to also represent a potion company Cold Iron (name pending). Do you happen to be looking to improving your stock that we could assist with?"

We are trying to track down Edgewater the troll, who's gang of thugs and gopniks terrorized several towns in the area. Jorn lived in Scadam with his husband, the mayor, but something went down, causing the town to send the husband in jail where he committed suicide. We believe Jorn joined up with Edgewater to get payback. We broke Edgewaters hold on Scadam, causing Edgewater and Jorn part ways.

TLDR; Jorn might know where Edgewater the troll has gone, and we figured she was wronged and rightfully angry and could be a valuable recruit to our company.

It's gotta be a good shuttle though. Y'know, Inara's from Firefly quality. We do got a pretty damn fat stack of cash on us after all. We can probably get one if these fine folk are willing to live in the cargo hold for a month or two.

We should be nice but also ask her about Edgewater. I believe it was a primary reason we went looking for her in the first place. Gotta be consistent.

Jorn get's a more serious look.

"oh."

She takes a deep breath.

"Cliff notes? My husband, Brandt was the mayor of Scadam. I helped run the finances. We had been having some problems. Both with me trying to balance my work and studies and with.."

Jorn lowers her head.

"other things"

She looks back up.

"This one journalist - and I use the term very loosely was always shifting more papers with speculation about us. I made no secret of the fact that there are blooches in my family tree. he acted like I was trying to hide it and kept on exaggerating mine and Brandts personal troubles."

She pauses, and has another drink.

"One time, I had to head up north - so I spent a little more time studying while I was up there.

While I was gone. This...tabloid shithead goes into overdrive. Spreading rumours. Hounding Brandt. One day Brandt loses his cool and backhands him. Journalist milks it for all its worth. Oversells his injuries. Brandt goes to prison and...it's too much for him.."

Jorn sniffs.

"When I get back, that Journalist has won over enough people in Scadam to be mayor. he changes things. Keeps more for himself. Eventually Scadam is just people who believed his words or friends of his he moved in to take over businesses when the good people who didnt believe him got sick of his policies and left."

Jorn shudders. Clenching her fists.

This is how I find Scadam. Everything I owned is scattered on the edges of town. What's left of it. All I have is what I left with. All I can do is vent. I cast spells at inanimate objects. Burn shit up."

Jorn has another pull of drink

"One day this troll finds me and says 'you look like you gots a bone to pick' and I do if I'm honest - I do. So I roll with him. Take some revenge on those who wronged me and mine,"

Jorn lowers her head again.

"But it goes too far. There are people I want to spook but not actually hurt. I use my magic against him where I can but he's too powerful and good people get hurt. Probably. I don't know what to do."

Jorn brightens up.

"Next thing I know, the journalist fuck who became mayor has been roughed up or killed and all the people who sided with him have been given the fright of their lives. You know? I just feel a peace at that."

Jorn finishes her garlic bread.

"Best yet. When I'm en route to cause more trouble, we find out that Scadam has been sacked. I don't know the details but basically everyone who needs a butt slap has got one and my despot boss has got cold feet. So I'm a free agent until he gets his shit together whenever that is. Probably never,"

Jorn smiles.

"He was pretty raw about it, yeah. Did that villain thing where he killed the guy who told him."

Throughout the story, Richter's eyes have been periodically flashing orange and she drinks a mana potion part way through it.

Jorn notices and smiles sympathetically she eventually says:

"Everything I just told you is true"

You cast Earths Honesty yourself.

Jorn is telling the truth or at the very least thinks she is.

"That could be good, I suppose. I'm gonna need a day or so to finalise my studies, but if you need a prudemagus around by all means swing by and pick me up. I'm assuming you're not walking everywhere."

Jorn eyes up Richter and glances at Burstocks thighs.

"I could be wrong, though."

Jorn finishes her can of iced tea and casually flattens the steel can into a disk between her hands.

"Regarding info on Edgewater, lets see...he's young and small for a troll. He wears dwarfhide and chitin armour - no idea where he got that. He has access to some ancient artefacts as well so I think he got his start with finding a weakened adventuring party or one that was killed in an accident or something. He's got a massive polearm that's wired up to a lightning pack - needs a couple of flunkies to carry that for him obviously. He's also got a sort of shot dun that's adapted for larger shots. It's made for troll hands."

Jorn thinks a little more.

He's got a few places he goes to to recoup, recruit and re-stock but I've only been along to some of them. I can mark them on your map if you like. He get's around in a big wagon pulled by a dozen Buyfugllian. So it's pretty fast and good for off-roading. Makes it hard to pin down where he went. There was a lot he didn't clue me into."

Jorn places an overlay on the pocket version of your are map.

The detachment I was part of when he packed up and went to Kiani was maybe 15 gopniks, 7 thugs. All with some of the better weaponry. It seemed a little bit 'all eggs in one basket' to me but I guess he reasoned the thugs he left in Scadam and his 3 nowl lieutenants could hold down the fort."

Jorn hands you the map with a toothy grin.

"I also guess he reasoned wrong."

Jorn stretches.

"I think he's got other small pockets of followers about the place. Dunnlivin, for example. And gold coins to grapefruits he's gonna try converting a few more of his thugs into nowls whether they volunteer or not. Probably gonna kill some of them trying."

You know, I'm thinking about the suitcase with Anderson's articles in one if Edgewater's chests, (and by what Jorn's been saying, it doesn't seem like it was hers), and how apparently the troll just approached her one day out of the blue and somehow knew she had a bone to pick. But I don't know how to broach the subject tactfully.

Since we need room on our ship for more party members, i suggest we buy the vacant house here in town and set up our potion making operation in it. We don't need to have it with us at all times, and we can set up a regular deal where we make stuff in bulk and sell it to the local bar.

QM: I wanna say cost wise, you should probably build extra rooms onto your ship next time you're in dunnlivin.

Simply removing/altering one of the washrooms will be cheaper again.
>>
>>4450888
Nice trips CF

Adding another room seems like a must, at the very minimum. Maybe a second one too, if we don't want a line to the toilet when we remove a washroom, lol

Guess it depends on costs for either, and how much gold we can spare.
>>
>>4450804
Potato grids? So, waffle fries?

>>4450888
That's probably cheaper than my shuttle idea. We've yet to hit the big leagues in regards to our business so we still gotta watch our money.

We should also look into constructing a brig if we decide to go full bounty hunter mode at some point. Not all of them are DoA after all.
>>
>>4450939
As for gold to spare, was there any other upcoming costs we need to deal with? Cause if not we got 15k gold to play with, which should see us a pretty decent way towards some upgrades - an extra room is 1000 gold, so we've got plenty of room to expand, but if we want the fake GTU clearance code that'll set us back 10k. We should probably call a meeting about upgrades when we're back on board, or at least ask Lumsden.
>>
>>4451024
Getting the GTU clearance and two rooms still leaves us just over 3k gold to work with, at minimum. And it'll be about an in-game month before we need to pay our wages, so we can probably go a little ham on purchases for a while yet.
>>
>>4451717
Even so, we'd still probably want to leave a bit of a "buffer" in that regard. Markets can rally and crash in an instant and foolish is the man who doesn't hedge his bets in this regard.

Besides, we have a great crew. Best crew ever. We don't want to risk them not getting paid now do we? Plus we're carrying that phat stack on our person at the moment it seems somehow. If...

Nope, not gonna finish that thought. Never give the GM ideas that are bad from your perspective.

You enter the waffle house tight on schedule.

Mike was there early. Because he's Mike.

Jorn, you notice (with your temporary social bonus) looks slightly uncomfortable at the sight of goblins, but she tries to hide it.

Highball seems to be having a pleasant conversation with Karl. It's hard to tell, as you've never heard goblins speak to each other before. It sounds incredibly similar to the language of cats. Their mouths barely seem to close.

Highball gives you a quick wave and continues her conversation.

Burstock immediately sits down next to Mike and starts to suck on his beer, which he seems good with.

Nod to Mike: "Thanks Mike."
Gesture Jorn and Richter take seat at Mikes table (If there is room) and make introductions around the table.

Nod to the man behind the counter and get the new arrivals make their orders. Ask the man if he has any pretzel nuggets or fresh limes to go.

"Jorn, meet Mike, our expert outdoors man. Mike, meet Jorn Tauloppo."
"You've already met Burstock, a most capable vitamagus and Richter, who walks the arcane path of the swole."
"I'm Joey, Joey Donuts. I dabble in whole lot of things, but also take care of administrative duties."
"There is also Highball and Karl, but they seem caught in conversation, so we can meet them later."

>Nod to the man behind the counter and get the new arrivals make their orders. Ask the man if he has any pretzel nuggets or fresh limes to go.

The man behind the counter sighs loudly and starts getting an order together. He says he can arrange some lime wedges as he has them pre chopped for drinks but non fresh AND whole. And no, he doesn't have pretzel nuggets. This is a waffle house.

>"Jorn, meet Mike, our expert outdoors man. Mike, meet Jorn Tauloppo."

Mike stands up and goes for a handshake. Jorn accepts but pulls Mike into a shoulder bump. He seems a little puzzled but not unhappy. When he sit's down he whispers something to Burstock, who whispers back, nodding.

>"You've already met Burstock, a most capable vitamagus"

Burstock arcs lightning between her hands

>"and Richter, who walks the arcane path of the swole."

Richter shadow boxes and rolls her shoulders, before walking up to the bar to place a special order. The man behind the counter nods understandingly.

>""I'm Joey, Joey Donuts. I dabble in whole lot of things, but also take care of administrative duties."

"He don't throw it around much but he's the boss and he's doing a bang up job. I'm his second in case you need anything when he's busy."

Without you realising it, Highball has returned to your side. She tosses a mutterbottle to herself.

Borrowing this!

She winks at you and steps outside for a bit.

We do need to bring up room arrangements at some point. I still feel that not giving other people rooms before ourself feels dickish, but I'd like what others have to say.
We should also look around town for means to make money after we finish here.
>>
>>4454038
I wouldn't mind temporarily giving up our room until we can get to Dunnlivin and build another one. It's not like it isn't our next(ish) destination anyway. I especially wouldn't mind if that left us sleeping in HB's room, but the office will do if she'd rather have her space.
We kinda need two, tho, so maybe we need to shuffle around the crate room or the rec room or ask around if anyone minds sharing rooms for a bit or whatever.

>>

>>

The standard recipe nets you around 400 calories for about 30g of protein (I forget the exact numbers off the top of my head). You can of course experiment to alter that ratio but the taste and texture will vary if ya do.

>Show Mike Edgewaters route on the map that Jorn drew and inquire if anyone knows anything about the Yagadoov Canyon.

"Yagadoov was a legendary muscle wizard. They think, one of the first to try and refine the untamed old world magic into a true discipline. They were walking the path before a single ship had even left elven lands. Yagadoov canyon, supposedly was formed when they attempted to do the ultimate burpee. Supposedly, despite the red rocks at its edges, the depths of the canyon are fertile. Like a self contained eco system."

Richter finally sits down.

Mike finishes his beer.

"I've seen smoke coming from the canyon sometimes. Smoke or steam. Only got close enough to smell it the one time. Wasn't wood or meat."

>Ask Mike if he has heard anything interesting during his stake out

Mike loads his pipe and shrugs.

"Depends on what you qualify as interesting, Joonda. No on get's imprisoned here, best as I can figure. If the town doesn't like someone they give them a hiding then throw them outside. These guard stations are literally just barracks. Nice ones, though. This town has had a lot put into it,probably on account of the mayor and founder and its small but niche businesses."

Burstock politely gets the barmans attention and points to her empty beer. The barman nods.

"That and at least two of the businesses are staffed by skeletons, which means there's a good cost to profit ratio."

Mike nods.

"Did wonder."

The house for sale costs about 25000g but it's 2 stories and 5 rooms, plus a basement. It's there if anyone wants it, but apparently the town isn't counting on it's sale. The mayor would like it sold, but apparently the current owner has enough sway in this place to not sweat it that much."

>and mention to him the bounties we learned about.

Mike's eyes widen a little when you mention going after a corporate criminal. Burstock does a little bump against him and smiles.

Mike almost chokes on his pipe when you casually mention one of the bounties is a lich.

Everyone looks at least a little nervous except Jorn who is noisily finishing her juicebox.

You clear your throat.

>This, and also ask if anyone knows why he might be scared of the Crags.

Mike takes a thoughtful puff.

Lotta dead folks."

Burstock pushes a lime wedge into her beer.

"The coast here was a pinch point in the war. A lot of ships. Elven and troll a like, found their final rest on those rocks. Dozen of bodies. Hundred. SO long dead they know nothing except fear and hatred and revenge. It's a good spot for thanomagi to practice but it's very dangerous. You can get some good looting done if you have the ability to constantly heal wounds inflicted by the unquiet dead."

Mike smiles at her fondly

Ok, time for some democracy. What's everyone feel like doing with this info? I'm currently stumped in regards to what's the best action to take right now.

>>4454530
Alright. Usually it's pancake/waffle mix where I live (the box tells you how to prepare it both/either way). You take 1/2 a cup of the raw mix, 1/2 a cup of milk, 1/4 a cup of egg whites, and a 1/4 cup of the peanut butter powder. Mix it all into a batter and make pancakes or waffles out of it.

It really does taste like peanut butter cookies, but not as sweet (because I use unsweetened mix). You could always add sugar/use sweetened mix or drizzle some syrup onto it if you have a sweet tooth but it's seriously good straight. Plus, like I said, you get a bunch of protein for not a lot of calories and it will fill you up pretty good.
>>
>>4454671
We have no reason to meddle with liches or undead in general (except the Baron and his dirbags, naturally); we can leave that bounty for someone else. If we come back months later and it's still there, or it becomes a real danger, then we'll see when that happens.
The dwarf, we needed to kill one anyway, might as well be paid for it too. Saves us the trouble of looking for one, really, and mercenaries thrive on getting paid twice anyway.
The corporate criminal... call it a personal interest: there, but for the grace of us, goes Chesapeake; might as well make it two for two.
>>
>>4454726
These sound good. It's kinda frustrating - my inclination is to make going after Edgewater the top of our priorities, given that it's the whole reason Jorn's going along with us and it's been our main focus so far, but it seems like it's gonna take a hell of a lot more poking around before it bears fruit.

On the subject of Edgewater though, it might be wise to get Karl to take a look at the facts so far? Tracking people down is his whole deal, so he might have some useful insights.
>>
>>4454739
I agree that trying to at least narrow down where Edgewater is/will go next is important. I'm mildly worried that he is a troll, even if he is a young one, and will know someone is coming for him. Since we don't know where he is right now, getting some bounties/striking at his followers to build up our warchest and become stronger while we track him down would be optimal. Also, on a minor note, the Old Guard may still be looking for us at some point so that could be a complication.
>>
>>4454809
Well, he already knows someone's been fucking with his stuff. It's not really that much of a stretch for him to be expecting us.
As for the Old Guard... well, we'll burn that bridge when we get to it. Didn't we send them on a wild goose chase looking for Chesapeake or something?

Burstock nods

"It wont be an immediate threat otherwise we'd have seen mobilised GTU presence by now. This is more like a thing that they know about that if they CAN get taken care of without having to spread themselves thin, they will. Even chance the Lich isn't even in this map segment."

>>"The dwarf, we needed to kill one anyway, might as well be paid for it too."

Mike puts down his waffle fries.

"The reward size means it was almost certainly posted by one of the communities in Jarka forest. Most likely the nowls. Whether the dwarf they want gone is in Jarka or nearby Kerdil we can't be sure. Kerdil is lousy with dwarves, regardless. Worse things, too."

>>"The corporate criminal... call it a personal interest: there, but for the grace of us, goes Chesapeake; might as well make it two for two."

There are nods of agreement. Jorn enthusiastically leans over the map apparently very pleased with her potential new line of work.

"If they ARE at the Speelskaard resort, though, we're going to have to deep cover as staff or legitimately enter the resort and that'll cost fat sacks of gold. The security on that place is gonna be too good to storm. Those guys can afford good security."

Burstock mimics Jorns pose and smiles at her.

"I'm fine with buying our way in so long as we drain the vault on that place. Put it back into the community."

Jorn and Burstock clink drinks.

Richter finishes a forkful

"Dangerous but worthy. It's hardly degenerate piracy when we consider the targets we have in mind. I would prioritise the forests in my own case, as I feel there is an even chance Edgewater would hide out or recruit from either of them."

Burstock sits back down.

"Oh, for sure. There's no rush on the corporate guy. He ain't leaving that resort till he's in an Kylik Overcoat."

>"Also, on a minor note, the Old Guard may still be looking for us at some point so that could be a complication."

Richter thinks a moment

"They are expecting a delivery are they not? Perhaps we should simply apologise for our lateness, offer to throw in extra stock then deliver them those crates we acquired that erupt into fire when opened."

Jorn laughs.
Highball re-enters and throws your mutterbottle back to you.

"Gilcrest and Lumsden are gonna shift some stuff around. I'm shacking up with you for a bit and some of my trimmings are gonna get moved around the ship. Mr Nakagura will get his own room and be none the wiser."

That's a good point. I'd be happy to chalk it up to coincidence at this point, but it's worth at least saying hi in case there's something she wants. Even if not, as >>4455849 says, it's worth keeping friendly with her in any case.

As for the Old Guard, I'm seconding (thirding?) stalling for as long as we can. While I like the idea of handing them a bomb, that'll mean that 1. they know our faces and our ship and 2. they'll start being outwardly hostile. From what we've heard I get the impression that being blown up won't be enough to sufficiently put them off or stop them from coming after us - hell, I don't think it's that feasible for us to wipe them completely out at all, at least not by ourselves. If we do decide to go ahead with bombing them I'd expect more frequent and more aggressive attacks on us, unless we get really lucky and blow up the head honcho or something.

"Only a day or two I reckon, Joey."

Mike takes another puff on his pipe

"The operative I shot in Dunlivin is the only person who can actually identify us, and I think the Baron's gonna make a thrall out of him. Won't be able to tell anyone anything."

Jorn slurps icecream from the bottom of her glass.

"I don't really get this yet, but in death, a persons body and soul can be separate."

Mike blinks. He, Richter and Burstock turn to Jorn, who nervously continues.

"I don't really get it myself but like, if you completely thrall a corpse, or if someones been dead a long time, then their body is just a husk - but their spirit can - I think- continue to exist in some form. Like, a ghost. That has all their knowledge and personality."

Burstock leans back

"That's true. Most people don't end up manifesting as ghosts though. Takes a strong will or some personal drive. This guy was just kind of a dick."

Jorn shrugs

"Don't worry about it, then."

Boddicker shoots you a patient smile

"Hi"

>"Officer of the law makes their appearance in such a reputably safe and secure town."
>"Should I be worried?"

Boddicker turns to you, she places her hands on her hips and shifts her weight. Her outfit makes an audible squeak.

"I'm not just some SAT, kid. I'm a VANGUARD"

Boddicker thumbs her badge.

"I'm not here to stop people from loitering or who find out who keeps treading on Old Lady FUckface's azaleas. I patrol the wilds of this land keeping an eye and ear out for encroaching danger. I stop what I can by myself."

She leans freaky close

"Which is a LOT."

"The shit I can't just take out myself I report in details to civilised communities so further actions can be taken. Observe and report. Now, this town doesn't generally count but I'm stopping here en route to Rojkawg because I have a personal fondness for it."

Boddicker leans back on the bar again.

"And to answer your question, SIR. Yes, you should be worried. There is pissed off troll with a lightning spear in these parts."

That's almost certainly Edgewater. Ask her about that. The more info we get on that bastard the better for when we inevitably want to collect his head.

>Also, apologize for not using the proper term, we didn't mean any disrespect and we have full respect for her abilities.

Boddicker is almost confronted by your politeness. She brushes her hair behind one of her ears and faces the bar again and goes back to her drink.

"It's a common enough mistake, kid. We do work with the SATS on occasion. We're not on the same page but we're part of the same book."

Boddicker looks a little wistful.

>" I was looking for a troll to hunt, actually. Name of Edgewater. I assume it's the very same. Any info you could give me on him would solve both our problems, huh?"

Boddicker's eyes widen slightly. She turns to face you.

She grabs your collar. Not especially threateningly, but she seems to want you to listen.

"You're a trollhunter now? Feeling all pumped because you took out some gopniks and a couple of dwarves? Well , here's what I can tell you: trolls don't bleed, they take half damage from magic, quarter damage from physical strikes and that's before armour. The smallest ones start at about eight and half feet. Their bite is venomous AND carries an ongoing sickness."

She lets go of you. Slightly embarrassed.

"I don't think you and your freakfest are it. If I'm wrong, I owe you a grink - but you'll wanna make sure they're all on board and ain't gonna be making their loved ones cry if you drag them into this."

Boddicker clicks open a fob watch and taps the bar. The barman pours her a glass of amber liquid from a fancy bottle.

>"yeah, I get that a lot from people who don't know me well"

Boddickers tone is flat.

"I can see that."
>>
>>4456572
...Huh. I was NOT prepared for Boddicker of all people to want to protect us.
"Nineteen, but yeah, I know I'm young. But that troll has been making people's lives miserable or short for a while now, and I can't really just let that be.

"You probably don't go into any other non-GTU cities other than this one, so let me tell you about Scadam. You know how we found the place? Every surviving villager stuffed inside lockers or turned into a nowl or basehead, one of them was even bolted to the fucking floor.

"Not the only place where he's done shit either, he's been trying to invade Dunnlivin, too. I could just say 'welp, I disrupted some of his operations, now he's somebody else's problem', sure... but it just doesn't sit right with me. And nobody in my crew's gonna go into it not knowing what they're in for, that's for sure.

"I'll be as careful as I can. I'll stack as many advantages as I get. But yeah, I'll take a shot. Any advantage, including info, will be appreciated, though. You said something about a lightning spear?"
>>
>>4456572
Did... did Boddicker just show concern for the lives of us and our crewmates? If so I'm kinda touched. Wasn't expecting such sentimentality/humanity out of a Vanguard.

>>4456589

>You probably don't go into any other non-GTU cities other than this one, so let me tell you about Scadam. You know how we found the place? Every surviving villager stuffed inside lockers or turned into a nowl or basehead, one of them was even bolted to the fucking floor."

Boddicker smirks
"You know where that doesn't happen?"

You keep going
>"Not the only place where he's done shit either, he's been trying to invade Dunnlivin, too. I could just say 'welp, I disrupted some of his operations, now he's somebody else's problem', sure... but it just doesn't sit right with me. "Then you'd better talk to an expert. What I know about trolls is what everyone knows."

You're not done
>"I'll be as careful as I can. I'll stack as many advantages as I get. But yeah, I'll take a shot. Any advantage, including info, will be appreciated, though. You said something about a lightning spear?"

Boddicker tilts her head a few times inquisitively to make sure you're finished talking. She goes to start talking but then stares at your waist. Seems odd at first but you soon realise she's just staring at Highball who is standing beside you and glowering at Boddicker.

They both put hands to their holsters then back down to their sides in a silent moment of understanding.

Boddicker sips her drink, appreciating it before loudly clicking her tongue.

"I guess that's what you'd call it. It's a troll sized...not really a spear but a curved blade at the end of a staff?"

"yanyuedao"

"Right. It's one of those that's been rigged up to a couple of those storm chambers the factotums use for their experiments. The chambers are awkward so he needs his squad to move them around for him."

Boddicker leans on the bar, arching her back.
"The staff itself he can wield one handed. In his other hand he's a got a breacher gun. Again, troll sized. Fired point blank into an unarmoured target, it'd just about rip someones skin off. He has other squad members to reload it for him."

She straightens up again.

"Supposedly, the spear can be overcharged and straight up shoot lightning at folks too."

Boddicker finishes her drink , she unzips her jacket and retrieves something from the inner pocket. It's a compressed cardboard tube with a rip cord at the bottom.

"This is a vanguard signal. The colour and pattern of this beacon is unique to us. You set this off anywhere in Kies point, we'll see it. Every Vanguard available will hop on a rinkan and be over there. Not gonna help you in combat, but we can thin out his cronies and make sure any survivor of his wretched gang get the book thrown at them."

She puts it in your hand.

Thank her kindly and promise not to use it unwisely. Since she's been to this town a couple times, why not ask her if there's anything we shouldn't miss out on here. Oh, we could ask her about that house that they are apparently not able to sell, she might know if its haunted or what not.
>>
>>4456703
So, basically, if we find his headquarters and are about to storm the joint, pop the flare and her and all her ilk will come running. They probably know about them so it'll send them into a panic as well. Y'know, "It's the feds! They've found us! Scatter!" kinda deal.

Ask her if his ilk is likely to know it's a vanguard signal if/when we pop it and how quickly we can expect the cavalry to arrive once we do so. If I'm right we want to incorporate those facts into our plan when we go to take him down. We should also thank her for it. Also, I'm getting the distinct vibe that she's into us sexually and Highball got hella jelly thinking we were flirting with her. Lord our gobbo really is best girl.

" Nah, no body died there or anything. It just hasn't come up. It's not enough space for some people and too much for others. I think it's been right for some people but they might not have been approved by the mayor or the dude selling the house for all I know."

>>Ask her if his ilk is likely to know it's a vanguard signal if/when we pop it and how quickly we can expect the cavalry to arrive once we do so.

"That depends on where you find him. We'd only be sending rinkan troops. Buyfugllian, Horse and Mog troops have their advantages but they would never be fast enough."

"There are no guarantees with that signal, okay? If you don't want it..."

Also, and while I don't imagine it's a thing - this game is open ended. So long as you two remain business partners and you're not HORRIBLE to her, Highball will stick around. You can break off and form relationships as you see fit. So long as other anons also agree with it. Burstock does one of her decency endangering stretches.

"It's 5 rooms total so it's not really good as a place to live unless we're doing a thing where we leave some people her while others are on the ship. As a potion business it's in direct competition with TWO licensed places plus a doctor in this town and a potion shop we're trying to sell to in Dunlivin. We'll make more money selling to a retailer like Siarka than trying to start are own retail sale business."

Burstock shrugs

"Also I don't just wanna drop Surrey here."

Burstock smacks her lips

"Just my two gold."
>>
>>4458793
So this town has 2 licensed potion shops and the doctor who brews his own to compete with eh? We got any unique products that can't be easily reversed engineered?

That's how you break into an established market after all, offer something the competition can't at a reasonable price that the people didn't know they wanted until you showed up. That our just outdo them in quality and/or price point on the established stuff, but the former is "easier" to pull off if you can.

Can we explore this house personally without it being considered breaking and entering? I'm kind of leaning towards trying to sell this thing on commission. Y'know, we find a buyer somewhere else then take our "finders fee" from the owner. Can't well do that effectively without detailed knowledge of the interior.
>>
>>4458801
>We got any unique products that can't be easily reversed engineered?
We don't. Surrey thinks she can give us an edge with some special materials, which is why we're going after the dwarf, but that's about it.

>Can we explore this house personally without it being considered breaking and entering? I'm kind of leaning towards trying to sell this thing on commission. We should probably talk that over with the current owner. Who, I imagine, we should be able to find in Town Doctor.

The short version is:

>Their job? Manufacture a virulent airborne plague that will kill 1/4 the land's population of humans almost instantly. They would be provided with status and resources beyond imagination, should they complete this task.

>As the plague neared its completion, however, it occurred to the amorous Steerpike that killing 1/4 of the population of all humans would mean killing some ladies, and that they might be pretty and that he might not have slept with them yet. Not standing for such a notion, Steerpike altered the plague so that it instead would instead kill only men, but kill 2/3 of the total population of them. By his reasoning this meant less competition, and more grieving widows.

>Unsurprisingly, upon its distribution, the plague took the lives of both Steerpike and his decidedly more level headed associate, killing them instantly.

The doctor straightens up, Richter is in the rare position of having to look up at someone.

"Oh, I shouldn't think so. My eyes were due a rest."

>"but we'd like to talk about the house that is for sale in town and maybe about some other business. if you have the time."

Doctor Ash pulls a chocolate egg out of his pocket and eats it while you talk.

"Well, the house is 25000 gold for two stories and basement. Good for small businesses or starting families. I brought it with me for sentimental reasons but the mayor and I have an understanding that it needs to technically be for sale. Albeit to the right people."

>"About some other business. if you have the time."

Doctor Ash shakes your and Burstocks hands normally but does the predator handshake with Richter. The doctor releases his grip and rubs his hand, nodding respectfully at Richter who returns a nod and a smile in kind.

"It is far too rare to actually meet ones such as yourselves."

>"I must admit, we currently lack funds to purchase the house for the price you ask. However as the business of our company expands to other fields we will likely be in need for a such property. Have there been other potential buyers that have expressed interest?"

Doctor Ash exhales through his teeth.

"Yes. Every few months or so. It's a tricky business I'm afraid. I am not open to it being purchased by someone who will then charge someone else to live there. If it's a business it has to be one both me and the mayor approve of. It's why the last guy who came through didn't get it."

Doctor Ash paces around the room as he talks and gestures with his cigarette.

"I am aware the price seems a little high for what it is. Truth is it's sale does not concern me. It is a building from my youth that I brought with me from my home town brick by brick. I wanted to keep it within view. You never know when someone like me is going to need it. If they do, I want them to have it."

The doctor glances off and takes another small drag

"It is a requirement set by the mayor that the house be technically for sale if it is within this town but - despite what people would have you believe I can afford to be quite picky about it's sale."

"I apologise. It was my intention to be more concise"

Doctor Ash cracks his neck.

>"You have captivated my interest, Doctor. What sort knowledge could you offer us about such creatures exactly and how much would you charge for such service?"

Doctor Ash smiles once more

"Oh that! Well, that's up to you"

He places a kidney bowl on his desk.

"Ask me about a creature - I'll tell you what I can. You then can pay whatever you think what I told you is worth."

The doctor places his hand over the bowl

"Do not -please- do not say 'tell me everything you know about...' that's like calling out for Freebird except for Doctors."

He takes his hand back off the bowl.

>We should ask if he is looking to expand his potion supply.

The Doctor smiles apologetically.

"I'm good, actually. Sorry. I get a shipment from Siarka every month. They're just for emergencies you understand."

QM: Also, because it was requested. Here is a quick ass sketch of rule 63 Karl and Mike.

I may do more.
>>
>>4460216
For QM: Just to clarify: We ask about a creature, not everything about a creature, but something specific such as what organs of a -Creature name- can be harvested for medical purposes? Then we put money in the bowl depending how much we think the answer is worth?
>>
>>4460243
QM: If you like. You don't need to be stat specific and indeed that'll just be busy work. Harder to kill creatures will always net you one rare ingredient for potions.

But you could ask:

>What are the basics of Blooches?
>How come you never see male harpies?
>What, if anything, are dwarves weakpoints?
> Can I get a goblin pregnant
> What the heck is an Ophiachan anyways?
>I met an elf with black hair - I didnt think that was a thing?

that sort of thing.

Dr. Ash will answer as well as he can and then yeah, you can pay whatever you think that is worth.

Wait, we're about to do a Joey again. They're the snake people. He already asked this before in a previous thread.

>>
>>4460255
>>4460269
Gonna second these. They are the most pertinent to our intentions. We wanna kill at least one of each and we're all about maximizing the reward for the high risk we're taking in doing so. After all, if there isn't a potential "high reward" to go with the "high risk" than what the fuck are we even doing?
>>

I mean, the actual answer is "Critters."

>What, if anything, are dwarves weakpoints?

Doctor Ash sits down and steeples his fingers.

"Stealth is not an option. For as long as we have known about them, every dwarf ever observed has been entirely blind. They can feel the vibrations of footsteps, taste the airand can smell any ternion species from a quarter mile away even if they've washed with Ancient Herbs Odour Blocker Body Wash."

Richter is slightly surprised

"But Ancient Herbs Odour Blocker Body Wash is so powerful."

Dr. Ash nods, understanding her amazement.

"Just so. But sneaking will not work. Best you can hope for is to hear them coming. Hitting them in the eyes, or nose doesn't seem to trouble them. The good news is, aside from their ability to burrow under the ground and tendency to stalk their prey they are uncomplicated in their attack and will simply attack the nearest, most appetising enemy. These means they could potentially be tricked. "

He gets back out of his chair.

"It may be simple but I feel that between a dwarves armour and its lack of magical protection you'll want to do largely magical attacks. Those will ignore its armour and still do a lot of damage. be careful though. An old enough dwarf wont even be stopped by the awesome power of fist"

Richter nods.

"A challenge."

The doctor dips his head a little and smiles.

"Doubtless, one worthy of you."

Richter scratches the back of her head.

"If you find an open dwarf hole - and you're sure it's a dwarf hole you may consider simply tunnel blasting it. It won't bury the dwarf alive obviously - but if the dwarf is digging a tunnel at the time, it will either be digging down, meaning its underbelly will be exposed or if it's digging up, it will be eating the dirt as it does so, meaning its mouth will be open. You get an explosive into a dwarfs mouth and you might just get it one. Don't try this lightly, though. A dwarfs mouth can close fast enough to break the sound barrier. Don't get me wrong it still wont LIKE having a bomb near it. But it might just make it mad."

>I know what ophiachans are, but are there any basics I should know?

Doctor Ash folds his arms and thinks.

"Let's see what I got. First and foremost, they are not, as is often thought one species. There are dozens of TYPES of ophiachans. Possibly hundreds. Some venomous. Some poisonous. Some venomous AND posionous. Some neither. There is a variety of sizes and colouring and...yes, temperaments.

Opiachans, understandably have varying levels of trust for ternion species. Someone is doing well to trade with them. Someone is doing exceptionally if they are allowed to live among them. It is rare for them to learn our language and one has not be heard yet speaking it like a native.

They are not regarded as intelligent creatures but it is my belief that they're inability to grasp our speech and their own odd, hard to learn language and customs makes them appear simpler than they are. Their understanding of the flow of magic and its applications exceeds anything we have known.

Indeed their very flesh and blood is tied to winds of magic. Tragically, this is why it is sought by many.

Naturally, they despise goblins."

>>Besides bonemeal are any Dwarve parts potion ingredients and if so in what potions can be they used?

Ash crushes out his cigarette and has another sip of canned coffee.

"Only if you're making powerful acid or poison. Time and their abominable wholly indiscriminate diet have made the flesh, blood , eyes and organs to be foul and corrupted. Dangerous when fresh. Lethal when distilled. Any acid made would required would a special container - orkish glass at least and any poison made would be so bitter and rancid that it would be worthless unless you use it to coat your weapons and if you do THAT the smell will make you far less endearing to those around you."

He thinks.

Their armour is irrevocably matted to their filth caked, rocky skin but it is...not uncommon for trolls to hunt dwarfs with the intention of flaying their corpses and wearing these armoured hides to further protect themselves. Naturally the dangers of harvesting and curing dwarf skin are of little consequence to creatures almost wholly unaffected by poison or disease."{/b]

Something occurs to Ash and he looks over your group. It's like he's sizing you up.

"Regarding the bonemeal..if you MUST harvest it. Though it itself is not poisonous - and indeed can boost many a potion. If it is nicked, broken or damaged during harvesting it can be corrupted by the fetid icor that makes up the dwarves flesh and bone. Harvesting dwarf bones is not the work for inexperienced hunters and collectors."

He leans back and finishes his coffee.

"I don't mean to make assumptions. I appreciate appearances can be deceptive."

>Where did dwarves come from?

Doctor Ash taps out another cigarette and lights it with a flick lighter. He turns his back to the three of you and exhales smoke into the air.

"For the longest time, we thought we knew. They appeared to be another aberrant amalgamation of other, better species. Another challenge put her by Delag to test our worthiness of inheriting this land and to weed out the weak , the wicked and the wounded."

"But newer techniques in measuring the age of bones places some of the ones we've found as walking the garlands at the same time as the ancient civilisation of dragons. The age of the dragon bones we've found and the age of the bones of older dwarfs we've found are close. Maybe 5-10 years margin of error."

He takes a long draw.

"Perhaps, though unrecorded by history, other species walked this planet along side the dragons besides the ancient weeahoks. Coprolite analysis of dwarven habitats suggest trace evidence of yet another species. Like smaller humans or elves. Creatures that went unchanged or unseen when the garlands were reshaped into the world we know now."

"Perhaps when the world was given the big reset it only effected the surface and everything below the surface went unchanged or worse yet was corrupted by the effects of the world engine. Or simply turned to cannibalism in desperation and fear at returning to the surface."

He smiles and strokes his chin.

"Naturally it calls much of what we know about the creation of this world into question. It must be studied further but those who can are hesitant to do so for fear of what else they may learn. The more answers science seeks the more questions it finds. Makes me almost glad to not be recognised or accepted by the official institutions. I feel as though my brain gets to have its safety off."

>">What are the weak points of Trolls?"

Doctor Ash has his back to you but you feel as though he smiled to himself.

"Strictly theoretical. I can tell you what not to waste your time on, though. Poisons wont work. They do not bleed - not as we understand it. There joints are flexible and banded - like a cats so they cannot be kneecapped or hamstrung except with triple digit damage. This also means that in any attack round they make two attacks. Their hit points and armour are alarmingly high even before they put armour on. Perhaps worst of all, though they can't cast magic they are bizzarely in tune with the 'hud' the mana pool of the world. As such, magic based damage is less effective on them."

The doctor exhales a massive plume of smoke.

"You need stacked, massive explosive, non magic based pure damage. We sometimes joke that half of all factotum studies are put towards developing anti-troll weaponry. But...if we were sensible that wouldn't be a joke. A single troll in the wrong place is very dangerous indeed. I am sorry. I don't have better news for you."

Doctor Ash has turned around and closed the distance between you in about a second.
He is holds up his hand, a cigarette held between his index and middle fingers.
His expression is incredibly tense.

"Tread. Very. Lightly."

The doctor blinks a few times and sort of apologises with his eyes. He backs off and continues to pace and smoke.

"The trolls are perhaps our oldest and most dangerous enemy -yes. BUT. They are not merely some beast or monster. They speak - or can speak - our language. They have societies they have a homeland and a city. Like it or not, though apparently monstrous they are more like us than not."

He self consciously rubs his cheek, feeling the blue scales upon it.

"Much more like many of us..."

He turns back to you, looking a little sad but calm, like he did earlier.

"If you start harvesting trolls many will question how long it will be before you go after those that simply carry their blood and many more will ask where you will stop. "

He stares deep into your eyes. He smiles, apparently reading your face.

"You've seen it before."

He scratches his head.

"Well you asked me a question, not for a lecture on harvesting sapient, sentient species. SO. YES."

He exhales.

"The process is difficult but brewed correctly, I understand the lumpy, tar like 'blood' that sustains trolls can be formed into a reactive gas that -when broken like a cloud jar can nullify all magic in a combat zone for three turns. Truly remarkable"

He extinguishes his cigarette on his hand.

"Not certain it's worth it."

He sits back at his desk.

"They can't give out degrees or attorney pins so it's not like we can be viewed as official in GTU cities but it at least means, for those less concerned we can give back to society on a higher level. I don't imagine I'd get much work in a big city but it's their loss, frankly."

He gently closes his book on his thumb and seems to think to himself.

>Could you tell us a little about Kretch? It seems like a nice place, even though guards at the gate are a bit over eager.

"Ooh I know how they seem. The whole point of Kretch is its meant to be outside of society but also utterly devoid of trouble. So they keep looking for trouble where it isn't."

Acnok shrugs.

"Kretch has been around for maybe 7 years. One person built these walls and staked a claim in this land - then invited others to
become part of this town. We all saw opportunities in niche businesses in a safe town and sure enough it paid off."

"Our location - basically out proximity to wilderness and our safety made Kretch a popular spot for adventurers such as yourselves. One day this guy called THE BARON visited and offered to set us up another two businesses. Ones where the town could make money while paying almost none. THE BARON is a necromancer so his businesses here are run by skeletons. He doesn't ask for a slice of the profits or anything, either. He only asked that we be as good to him as he is to us. Whatever that means. He's nice but he's a weird guy."

Acnok restocks her shelves

"As a consequence of the baron's businesses we were able to upgrade a few facilities and hire a bunch of pretty elite guards. I guess them being well paid for a cushy job makes them try to see trouble where it isn't."

Acnok sweeps up a little

"I'll buy from you if you have something I can see as a gift and you have it in bulk. If you're looking to shift nicknacks I recommend the baron or one of his 'tight five' - that's five hand picked shopkeepers besides himself that he works with. Generally more specialised than myself."
