Ahh! It sure is a good day to be a goddess, sitting in your floating palace, doing... absolutely nothing, it seems.

Such is your life as Kobolette, the goddess of kobolds. You don't understand or remember how you came to be, or why you stand above all members of your species. All you know is that you watch, guide and protect them by following your set of divine principles. It may not be the most exciting thing ever, but it sure is a fine and enjoyable existence... though it does tend to get a bit lonely sometimes.

Nobody can challenge your power except the gods from the nearing civilizations, but thankfully you are all in good terms... well, not with Gobby, the god of goblins. His species are nothing but gross and depraved creatures. The sole thought of him repulses you! Ew!

Not counting that guy, everything is pretty much fine around here. The thousands of kobold tribes that follow you are thriving, and you've got a nice afterlife prepared for all those that obey you.

These are stable times, and it makes you very happy.

As you are sitting in your throne, chilling and meditating on the current state of everything, you suddenly receive the energy of a prayer... it seems that one of your followers is calling to you.

"Oh, almighty Kobolette, please accept this humble sacrifice, and answer this one's call for help! This one is in desperate need of your divine advice!"

In the past, you've made it clear that only high priests, shamans and champions can communicate with you directly, after making a worthy sacrifice, of course. If the common folk require help, they must talk to them, for they are the perfect role models of your established principles. You were getting tired of so many people talking to you at once, requesting things and advice and asking all sort of questions, so it was necessary for your mental health.

This follower is just a common tribesmen who has violated the procedure you established. And not just that - his sacrifice is nothing but a measly rabbit that has signs of decomposition. This is an incredibly disrespectful act.

Oh, whatever. Not all followers are of equal intelligence. You doubt he's aware of the magnitude of the offense he is committing, so you'll forgive him for now. But only because he's ignorant.

Your words echo into the follower's mind. "My child, I have heard your prayers. Speak, so that I might help you." The kobold looks surprised, maybe not so much that you answered his prayers, but probably because he didn't expect you, the highest being, to be so nice and open to him after such a pathetic offering.

He *is* your child, after all. You want your people to be as happy as possible, even if they get on your nerves sometimes. But you highly doubt his problems are of such transcendent nature that not even the priests could aid him... that is, if he has tried consulting with them at all.

The kobold named Makazura tells you of his issues. The moment you accept his sacrifice, you immediately become aware of what he has done, but you let him express his feelings anyway.

"Thank you Goddess for answering my prayer! I want to ask for advice on solving a problem that has been troubling my heart for a very long time... I know that you know my sin, but I must confess it with my lips: I am cheating on my wife. A night of passion where I felt to temptation has turned into an obsession with my lover that has lasted for months, and I cannot simply leave it behind, for I am already involved in the mess. I have broken the sacred oath of loyalty to my true mate, unbeknown to her, which conflicts me immensely. We are a loving family, and everyday I am invaded with the fear that I will eventually pay for my sins..."

The kobold begins to cry. "I don't want my wife to find out what happened, nor I want that cougar to speak up and destroy our marriage! This stupid mistake will follow me to my grave if I don't do something, but I don't KNOW what to do! Goddess, I am trapped! I beg for your aid! I just want everything to go back to normal... what should I do?!"

It's time to give this mortal a piece of your perfect, godly advice. "Admit to your mate and give her a child or a few, and do acts of charity around your tribe. That will be enough to redeem yourself."

The follower is taken aback by your answer. "W-what?! But... but I don't want my wife to know what I did!"

"Then you would rather live a life of uneasiness, hiding the truth away from her?" you retort back at the man. "Confess to your mate, learn from your mistake, and do not repeat it again. Go!"

The mortal hesitates again. "What if she doesn't forgive me? I... I don't want her to dump me..."

Hmph! This man has got a nerve to doubt your wisdom! Such is his ignorance that he does not realize he is talking to a Goddess, a being much older, knowledgeable and powerful than him! As much as you'd love to punish this kobold for his insolence, you shall forgive this offense for now. You won't let a mortal ruin your good mood.

You give the skeptic one last, definite command. "Obey me, mortal, and you shall see the fruits of your faith." If he is a true follower, he will comply without further questions or doubts. The kobold is silent for a few seconds, but eventually nods. "Oh, forgive my imprudence, almighty Kobolette! I shall do as you say, because you know what is best for me!"

Indeed you do. "Next time you are in need of advice, inquire with the shaman", you add in before cutting the communication link and going back to rest.

Being a goddess can sometimes be tiresome.

You forget almost immediately about the incident as you drift away into a nice sleep.

**********

Later during that month, a kobold named Makazura contacts you by sacrificing a measly decomposing bunny. He's deeply thankful you for the advice you gave him weeks ago. He confessed to his wife and felt supported by your presence, as if the words that came out from his mouth were blessed, because he expressed his feelings of regret in a very sincere way. Indeed, you blessed this follower for his faith. Now he knows why it's foolish to doubt your wisdom - you NEVER let your people down.

The mortal tells you that his wife was very sad and furious for what he did, but despite his betrayal, she forgave him in an act of great love. The man is now in peace with himself, and they are a happy family again.

He also told you that the lover hanged herself, probably because she could not bear to not have him. "That whore deserves it for attempting to destroy my marriage" he comments. He doesn't sound saddened by her death.

A shame about the woman. Despite her sins, she is one of your children and you love her as much as you love all your people, so you shall receive her with open arms in the afterlife.

END OF YEAR 1

START OF YEAR 2

**********

Another year, another time to be a great goddess to all kobolds.

Since the incident with that mortal who was cheating on his wife a year ago, whose name you forgot, you've been receiving a lot of banal calls and prayers. The only explanation you find for these strange ocurrences is that the man told others of how he contacted you, and the word spread around. Now everyone thinks they can sacrifice a miserable rabbit to have the privilege to talk to you.

It's a lot of tedious work. You haven't found a window to rest or do your hobbies for so many months...

Perhaps you need to do something about this. You've got an eternity to live for, and you're not willing to spend all of it being stressed out.

As you meditate in your throne room, thinking of a solution, you receive the energy of a special prayer: a shaman is contacting you. His sacrifice is a delicious elephant. Yummy! Finally an offering worthy of your mightiness!

"The One that Watches from the Skies, answer this one's calling! The people and I *demand* that you apply your hand of justice!"

Hmmm... he put a lot of emphasis on 'demand'. You're not sure you like the tone of this follower's voice. It sounds like he's ordering you around!

So they're *demanding* something of you, huh?! NOBODY has the authority to talk to you like that! You are the goddess Kobolette, and stand above all members of your race! You take orders from no one, even less from a puny mortal like this shaman! This is a HUGE offense!

You've had enough of your followers treating you with such disrespect and lack of solemnity despite all the hard work you do. It's time to put them in their place! "YOU ARE NOT IN POSITION TO DEMAND ANYTHING OF ME, MORTAL!!!" Your voice echoes in the place of prayer, making the shaman and everyone around him shake in fear as they realize they've incurred your wrath!

The followers prostrate immediately, and the shaman speaks in a quavering voice. "G-Goddess! I did not mean to disrespect you, please forgive my foolishness! I am just a lowly man who says stupid things sometimes!"

"YOU BETTER HAVE A GOOD REASON TO INTERRUPT ME, OR I SHALL SMITE YOU ON THE SPOT!!!" you threaten at the shaman, who recoils back in terror. It's just a bluff - you probably won't do it, but the sole fact of saying it makes you feel so much better. It's been a long time since you've asserted your dominance like this.

Your people are like children. As much as you love and indulge them, they often forget that you're the one in charge, and that's when they ought to be disciplined.

"I-I-I am SO sorry, Goddess! I will get to the point right away!"

You take a deep breath, calm down and pay attention to what your follower has to say. "I am listening, my child."

**********

"Almighty Kobolette! The reason I call for you is so you apply your rightful hand of justice on the demon that is tied to the Altar of Sacrifices!" He points to a tied up man and a furious crowd surrounding him.

The shaman continues the story. "All of us used to think it was a kobold for all these years - it had a family, friends and nothing about its behavior revealed darkness within his heart... but weeks ago, it finally decided to reveal its true nature - it was a demon in disguise! It went berserk, single-handedly slaughtering countless of men, women and children with its bare hands, including its loved ones!"

The crowd shouts and yells. "KILL IT!!!" "THAT BASTARD KILLED MY SON!!!" "DEATH TO THE DEMON!!!"

Your follower keeps speaking. "After committing the horrible deed, the demon ran away to the wilderness, but we managed to capture it after a long search, and now all the families of the victims of its savagery are demanding justice! They desire that you take the matter in your divine hands, and inflict a most painful and excruciating death upon this creature in order to atone for the suffering it has caused to all of us!"

You examine the man for a moment. Although his face looks devoid of emotions, you notice a faint sense of regret being overshadowed by an evil presence residing within him. Its powers allowed it to fool everyone into thinking that the kobold itself was a demon, but the truth is, he is just a man who has been possessed by an evil spirit. If you kill this man, you would be harming a follower who was forced to do heinous acts against his will.

The shaman and the crowd prostrate and begin chanting your name. "PRAISE KOBOLETTE!!!"

The tribals thirst for revenge, but they are directing their hatred towards the wrong creature. This is not the kobold's fault, and you will let them see why.

You use your powers to expel the evil spirit dwelling in the man's soul. It leaves through his mouth, revealing itself to be a disgusting black blob that you immediately cut down, sending it to oblivion!

As the shaman witnesses the demon leaving the kobold's body, he falls on his knees, muttering to himself. "H-how is this possible?! I... I did not perceive the evil presence! I thought the man WAS the demon!"

Shamans are supposed to be knowledgeable and sufficiently spiritually aware to deal with possessions, but this follower was just as easily swayed as the common folk. You do not approve of his incompetence. “Shaman, you should have the knowledge to identify and exorcise demons. Did you not see the malevolent being that took control of this man?”

“N-no… no, I did not, almighty Kobolette" the kobold excuses himself. "I examined him very closely, and could only arrive to the conclusion that the demon IS the kobold. This is the first time I have failed as a shaman, and it almost took the life of an innocent man... Please forgive my mistake, Goddess. I swear it shall never happen again.”

The exorcized man returns to his senses. He breaks down, crying profusely at the realization of the horrible things he has done. "AAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! WHYYYYYY!!!"

Everyone is speechless at what they have witnessed. You decide to break the silence. “My children, as you have seen with your own eyes, there was an evil presence dwelling within this poor man’s soul. Fear not, for I have slain it, and the kobold’s true self has returned. Now, cut his bindings!”

The crowd looks astonished. Nobody seems to believe what happened. Suddenly, someone among the group of people vociferates angrily! “What does the Goddess mean by ‘evil presence’? The kobold IS the demon!”

The followers stare at each other in disbelief, and another voice yells. “That monster looks as evil as always!”

Everyone starts muttering to each other. They are doubting your words, even when you showed them proof of your deeds! The shaman attempts to establish order. “You dare doubt the Goddess, filthy disbelievers?! She has spoken the truth! Such skepticism is a grave sin!”

Another kobold among the horde shouts. “This man killed my son and my wife! They were everything to me! I have nothing left to live for, and I won't rest in peace until I see the bastard SUFFER for what he has done!”

You hear yet another skeptic yelling at the sky, challenging you. “Kobolette, we captured a demon! Why do you refuse to kill it?! Is this another one of your tests?!”

“Maybe it’s not the Goddess who is speaking to us! Perhaps it is another demon, and the 'shaman' is one of its minions!”

Everyone is shouting at you, disapproving of your actions and having the unbearable audacity to deny your words and wisdom. Never before have you seen such arrogance among your people!

That’s it! You’ve had enough of hearing these mortals’ insolent remarks! How dare they accuse you of being a demon when you have always used your powers in their service?! You have guided and protected these ungrateful fools for what could be millions of years, yet they still dare question your actions and your divine nature to this day! A Goddess like you works her arse off every day so her children are happy and fulfilled, and this is how they repay you?! Oh, the nerve of these sinners!

Your wrath is so immense that a storm is unleashed upon the tribe! They immediately realize that they have erred, and their vacuous accusations stop, but it is too late to appease you – the offense has been committed, and you cannot tolerate their insolence!

It’s time to give a serious lecture to these rebellious mortals. It is not often that you descend to Earth, but these followers have given you a good reason to do so! You stand up from your throne and use your godly powers to teleport yourself to where the crowd is gathered, descending from the cloudy sky!

The ground shakes at your arrival, signaling your prodigal kids that their powerful Goddess is here. They look up, revealing a shocked look on their faces!

As your feet touch the moist grass, the astonished mortals quickly prostrate before you, lowering their heads in an act of respect, not daring to look at the highest being directly in the eyes.

The followers have remembered their place. They look like children about to be punished by their mother after throwing a silly tantrum. They begin to vociferate an insincere, terror-induced chanting that does not please you. “Praise the Almighty! Praise Kobolette! Praise the Godde-“

“SILENCE!” you shout your lungs out, sending a shockwave of energy that could be felt kilometers away! ”Faithless sinners! You have seen the evil spirit leaving this man's body, yet you still condemn him and deny the truth I have shown you?!”

The kobolds are silent. You continue lecturing them. “This man had no control over his actions! The death of your loved ones is a tragedy, and I understand your suffering, but to take out your frustration on an innocent neighbor makes you just as evil, if not worse than the demon that took control of him! This is NOT the behavior I expect from my followers!”

You allow a moment of silence to see if anyone dares rebel or question your words. All those that persist on their insolence shall be smited down. Fortunately, all the mortals are listening respectfully - you won’t be forced to purge anyone.

Now that you have gotten your point across, your followers shall receive words of reassurance. “My children, everyone is vulnerable to possessions. Do not point an accusing finger at others for their fall, for it may happen to even the most virtuous of you! Know that your families are now in the afterlife, and one day you shall reunite with them again. Until then, live on, be happy and, above all, be kind to your fellow men!”

Tears of sadness rain down your followers’ eyes as they desperately ask for forgiveness. “Goddess, pardon my insolence!” “Almighty One, I am a fool! I do not deserve your grace!”

One moment, they are cursing your name, and the other, they ask for forgiveness. Such is the duality of koboldkin. As much as you love your people, their lack of inner reflection more than often disappoints you. May this tragedy be a lesson for them that will strengthen their souls and allow them grow wiser.

Your wrath is gone, and the storm ends.

The shaman quietly stands up and approaches you, making sure to keep a prudent distance. He does not dare to meet your gaze. “G-Goddess… this is an honour, I cannot believe you are walking among us…”

Those are not the right words for this situation. You are annoyed at this man's incompetence. “Why did you fail to identify the demon that had taken over this man?" you ask.

The shaman prostrates again. “My Goddess… this is the first time I have failed to recognize a demonic possession. I do not understand how the spirit managed to fool me, but I beg that you give me another opportunity – I swear this incident shall never repeat again!”

Mortals *think* they know the extent of their skills, but they do not. This priest may fail again, and you cannot allow the risk to exist. “My child, while I trust your intentions, I do not trust your training” you tell him.

You raise your right hand and use your powers to brand the priest’s left hand with your divine symbol. A bright spark temporally blinds the shaman for a few seconds, who then examines his hand in pure awe after the effect passes.

“From now on, the symbol in your hand shall lightly ache whenever you are about to execute an alledged 'demon'. May it remind you not to be so hasty in your judgement in the future."

The shaman prostrates. “May your name be praised for all Eternity! I shall not fail, almighty Kobolette!"

He and his family all lived in the same hut, including his wife and four children. All of them were killed when he went berserk.

Eventually, you stumble upon the information you were searching for. This mortal was possessed while he was fishing in a lake. He was minding his business, when the evil spirit came and took over his body. Though the man could not control his own movements, he was fully aware of everything while the demon was controlling him.

Demons tend to possess your followers by tempting them in their dreams with false promises of fulfilling their desires. They are not powerful enough to take control of them by force, unless the mortal’s willpower is weak or their heart is full of malevolence. This kobold had neither a weak will nor an evil soul, so it is beyond your comprehension how the demon overcame him... though you *did* sense that it was different from others when you slayed it. Along with its characteristic malevolent aura, it also emanated an otherworldly power that you don’t recall ever sensing before…

This threat is one of unknown origins, and you will keep your eyes open in case it shows itself again. However, you do not fear it, for all sort of problems can be solved by doing something as simple as snapping your fingers. Nothing is a source of real concern to an immortal and all-powerful being like you.

As for this kobold… you have decided that he is not apt to go back to his old life. His mind is shattered, and there is no way he can live with himself after the atrocities he was forced to commit. Besides, despite the tribe accepting his innocence on the matter, there is no way they will regain their trust on him. Therefore, you shall restore this man's mind, erase his memories and give him a new life in a tribe far away from this one, intrusting him to their shaman so he never learns the horrible truth of his past.

The crowd and the shaman are still prostrating before you, waiting for you to say something. You turn to them and announce what you have determined to do with the kobold. Nobody opposes your decision – they accept your words in solemn silence. It is clear they don’t want to see this mortal again.

After dealing with the situation, you return to your sky palace. It has been a stressful day and you have been left greatly disappointed by your followers, which ruined your mood. Blasphemy is a sin you cannot easily forgive.

Nonetheless, as long as there is a tomorrow to look forward to –and you work perpetually so there is one-, your followers shall always have the opportunity to become wiser with time and experience, learning from their mistakes. A mother has to care for their children, even if they don’t acknowledge all she does for them. Hopefully, with the help of your divine guidance, kobolds shall grow out of their immaturity and irreverence, and they will realize that their faith on you must be unbreakable if they want to achieve salvation.

(Many months later...)

**********

One day, you receive the prayer of a shaman from a distant tribe. He informs you about the current state of a man you exorcized months ago. It took you some effort to remember him, as you attend to many mortals on a daily basis, but you eventually manage to recall the incident.

The kobold whose mind you have reset is doing well at his new home. Nobody in the tribe, except the shaman, knows about his past, but thanks to your intervention he has been accepted as their member and is fitting in pretty well. He is a peaceful, kind man, and everyone is in good terms with him, but he prefers to spend his time alone and has not established bonds with anyone.

The man often tells the shaman of recurring nightmares where he kills people he had never met before, yet he feels strangely attached to them, as if he knew them in another life. The shaman tries not to give it too much importance, avoiding to tell him the truth.

Despite the dreams, he is a functional kobold in all ways, though he shows a general lack of enthusiasm on everything. There is no ‘spark’ in him, as the priest puts it.

Even if you restored his mind, there is only so much a Goddess can do for a broken soul. May this mortal be as content as he can during his time on Earth, for he shall experience true happiness again once he reunites with his loved ones in the afterlife.

… Oh, damn it. It looks like you’re going through *that* period again. You are so bored and lonely that you’re starting to talk to yourself and doing all sort of illogical stuff. It is good that other mortals are not here to see you behave like this – that would be incredibly embarrassing.

You haven’t received any prayers or calls since mating season began. All the kobolds are busy in their intimacy, following the call of nature as they should be, but that also means there is nobody to talk to during this month.

Maybe there is something you can do to spice things up? Set up a little prank on your followers, perhaps? Or, uh, spy with your divine eye on what some of them are doing?

Angels! Of course! How did you not think of that before? They can entertain you and keep you company while mortals don't need you, and they can help you manage all the prayers when you start getting swamped by them!

You recall that you once tried creating angels, and it did not end well. They were abominations that you sadly had to put down the moment they were conceived... but that was a distant past when you were less skilled in the usage of your godly powers. Now, with all these years of experience behind your back, surely nothing will go wrong!

A responsible secretary that administers your godly work, a cheerful girl to play with and teach many things, and a loyal guardian that watches over the people and protects them. These three shall be your servants! You raise your hands, concentrate your powers and materialize three angelical beings before you that are fitting to the idea you have in mind!

Amazing! Everything turned out fine! The servants await your command, except for the jolly child, who begins to explore your palace enthusiastically. You clap your hands to get her attention, and she obeys immediately. "Sorry, mother!" The three angels kneel before you.

You bestow upon the small one the name of Imogene, the innocent maiden. "Uooooh! I love it!" she squeals in delight.

The secretary shall be referred to as Serena, the calm and quiet one. "I shall do my best, Goddess."

Finally, the warrior will be baptized as Kobcifer, the bringer of light. "It is an honour to be bestowed with that name, my Goddess... I shall do it justice."

You spend the rest of the month chilling with Imogene as Serena helps you handle what few prayers you receive, and Kobcifer watches over the land.

Imogone is a fun child. She has many hobbies, one of her favorite ones being painting. You were never interested in it, but after she kept asking you to paint together, you began to grow a liking to it. You also teach her many things about the world, and she pays full attention to everything you have to say, absorbing all the knowledge and wisdom you can share.

She is not as innocent as you envisioned her to be, though. The moment you began to talk about goblins and how depraved they are, she couldn't stop making uncomfortable questions about them. "So they're green?! So they can do it *all* day without getting tired?! How long do they have it?!" Those are not questions a child should make. It seems that you have a long road ahead to discipline her. But, deep in your heart, you are finding it enjoyable to play the role of a single mother.

The two other angels do not have such a strong presence, and are much more focused on their tasks than leisure talks and entertainment. Unlike Imogene, they address you in a formal way, but that is exactly what you want. They *are* your servants, after all. You are content and satisfied with their work.

You love all three angels equally. They shall be at your side for all eternity, so you won't feel lonely anymore. This was an amazing idea! You should've done it much sooner!

The mating season is near its end. Everything will go back to normal in a few days.

You are giving lessons to Imogene, when Kobcifer suddenly barges in the room. "My Goddess, I have spotted degeneracy on the horizon!"

"Huh?" you mutter, surprised at your servant's odd choice of words. You stand up, and Kobcifer leads you outside the palace. He points to a forest near Goblin territory. You focus your divine eye to have a better look at what's happening...

... What is the meaning of this?! It's a kobold being courted by a goblin, the most grotesque of all creatures! How can she prefer to spend her time with one instead of a kobold mate?! Those green beings have nothing but malevolent intentions! What if he's just manipulating her so he can harm her later?!

Any pairing between a kobold and a goblin will result in an abomination being born! There is no way you can allow this anti-natural relationship to take place!

This child does not know what she's doing, and you cannot watch with your arms crossed as she falls prey to this goblin's lies! You manifest your voice inside the kobold's head. "Mortal! This is your Goddess who is speaking!" The kobold is startled by your presence. "G-Goddess? Is that you?!"

"What wrong? Julia fine? Who she talking to?" you hear the goblin whisper behind her back.

"I warn you - do not form bonds with that creature!", you order your follower. "Go back to your tribe and pair with a valid mate! The goblin is manipulating you, all he wants is your body!"

"No! Brukt is the sweetest man I've ever met!", the woman daringly argues back. "He loves me, Goddess, my heart knows it!"

"I assure you he doesn't! And even if he does, are you aware that you cannot form a family together?!" you vociferate, annoyed at your follower's naivety and disobedience. "Only birth defects can be born from this abnormal relationship!"

"I... I know, but... but I still want to be with him for the rest of my life!" she foolishly insists. "Goddess, please understand, all the males I've paired with have treated me horribly, but Brukt is the first man who treats me with kindness and respect, and not like I am disposable trash! I don't care if we are of different species - if I cannot be with him, I'd rather die!"

You sense uncertainty in the kobold's heart. She is conflicted by the idea of not being able to bear healthy children by pairing with the goblin, but her feelings for him are strong and genuine.

You are almost fully certain that this is not a mutual sentiment - thousands of years of experience have taught you to expect the worst from goblins. Perhaps you can read the greenie's mind to see if he is the one exception to the rule, but if the goblin god Gobby finds out that you're messing with their followers' heads, there shall be trouble ahead.

You shake your head. "No, Kobcifer. I have yet to decide what to do with these two." Standing tall, the angel bows. "Yes, my Goddess."

This child has grown attached to the goblin, and separating them may cause her to end her life. As much as her disobedience offends you, you are aware that most mortals behave like fools in the matters of love. It is a powerful feeling that greatly blinds their judgement.

You will talk to the goblin to ensure that he is not manipulating your follower. But even if he isn't, this relationship is doomed to suffering and disappointment, and your child knows. She will not acknowledge it until the day she is too old to conceive healthy kids with a kobold mate, because such is her need of affection that she has chosen to pursue her feelings instead of reason.

As sad as it may be, allowing their relationship to exist is a lesser evil than ending it, for doing that would destroy your follower's life. However, if the goblin is not merely playing with her heart... then you MIGHT be able to do something about the birth defects. You are not going to let them bring abominations to the world that will suffer due to the selfish bond of their parents. You can bless this goblin's seed so it can only impregnate your child with pure-blooded kobolds, but this may startle the goblin god Gobby, and you are not sure he would approve of that.

That reminds you. After you deal with these two, you will have a serious talk with Gobby. He must keep his grotesque creatures away from your people.

**********

Speaking directly into the goblin's mind may startle his god, so you make your voice heard in the forest for both the kobold and goblin to hear. "Goblin! Heed my words!"

The greenie jumps, frightened by your voice. "Huh? Who speak? Who there?!"

"I am Kobolette, the Goddess of kobolds!" you vociferate at the lowly creature. "Know that if your intentions with my child are not pure, then you shall have my full and undivided wrath to deal with! I want you to treat her well, mortal! Do you understand?!"

The goblin has a odd look on his face. As he was hearing your words, his expression gradually changed from one of fear to one of... that look that all goblins have when they are having depraved thoughts. He responds with a stutter. "Y-yes, mommy- NO, Brukt meant, yes, miss Kobolette..."

This is NOT happening. You did NOT just arouse a goblin with your voice.

"He's a sweetheart, isn't he?" your follower says. unaware of the goblin's obvious feelings. "Almighty Goddess, I beg your acceptance of our relationship! Brukt is the only person that makes my life worth living!"

A ´sweetheart´, she says. You're not sure if you want to cry or laugh at this mortal's innocence. "Child, just look at this goblin's face" you point out, trying again to make her realize that he is nothing more than a depraved creature. "Do you not realize what he's thinking about?"

As soon as the kobold meets the goblin's gaze, she puts her palms on her cheeks in a gesture of surprise. "Goddess, please stop threatening Brukt! He's terrified!", she says before hugging him. "Don't be scared, the Goddess won't hurt you! She will let us live happily!" The filthy creature nods and embraces her back. Oh, by Heaven's sake, this follower is so naive it hurts!

"No, you foolish child! He is aroused by my voice!" you shout, trying to help her see the truth. "Has it not occurred to you that he might be attracted to ALL kobolds, not just you?!"

Your words cut deep into the woman's heart, and the pain reflects on her eyes. She looks like she's about to break down and cry. "No, no, no! That's NOT true, Goddess!" she defiantly shouts, shaking her head violently. She grabs the goblin's hands. "Please, Brukt, tell her that she's wrong!" The goblin lowers his head in embarassment, trying to hide his lusty face.

You hear Kobcifer speak in an impatient tone. "My Goddess, you have wasted enough time arguing with this insolent woman. She is beyond salvation. Send me there, so I can slay those degenerates."

This argument is getting tiresome. Why would a Goddess like you be arguing with such a disobedient, irreverent mortal? This conversation is not leading anywhere, so you shall take action. You have tried to rescue this child from the goblin's lies, but seeing that she refused to obey, you will have to assert your authority on the matter.

As you are about to make your decision, the goblin raises his head and reveals a frown, though there are still cues of lust in his gaze. He respectfully addresses you, though with conviction in his voice. "Mo- miss Kobolette, Brukt love Julia. She is good woman, very kind, cute and humble. She make Brukt heart pound fast, make him feel things other females not make him feel. Brukt want to spend all time with Julia. She also beautiful woman, nice curves, big chest, pretty eyes. Brukt likey Julia very much."

Your follower chuckles at the goblin's compliments, sounding relieved. "Aww, stop it! You're embarrassing me, honey..."

He doesn't care. Most goblins kill birth defects upon birth, abort them or in some cases just leave them there to die.
The majority of gobs are polygamous. They do depravities with all kinds of creatures and can impregnate most of them, but nearly all newborns conceived from interspecies mating are birth defects.

this is pretty important, we should also impress on him that we are grateful that he remains vigilant and has brought this matter to our attention even if a truly satisfactory resultion hasn't been reached. Also make it clear that he represents not the first but the final solution to a problem, most things have to be resolved with care and without violence but when the time comes we will be grateful for his service.

… Very well. You have made your decision.

There is something special about this goblin. As perverted as most members of its species are, he *might* be a one-in-a-million greenie who does not only care about mating. If these two mortals truly do love each other, it would be unwise to destroy their relationship…

However, you cannot hand your child to him based on words alone. You must be absolutely certain that this creature's mind is home to more than thoughts of lust, and only his deeds may reveal the truth. Thus, you have decided to send this goblin in a grand quest to test his courage and, above all, how far he is willing to go to win the kobold’s heart.

If he succeeds, then he shall be worthy to be your child’s mate, and you shall bless his seed so he may only impregnate her with kobold children. If he fails, and perishes or gives up, then he was not meant to be her lover, for he did not try hard enough to overcome the hardships.

The goblin's legendary quest shall be...

>A journey to Hell to retrieve a Sacred Lotus, a beautiful divine flower that only grows in places of enormous corruption. The goblin shall train to become strong, both in body and spirit, so he may face the horde of demons and resist the evil temptations that they shall assault his mind with.
>A quest to retrieve the Pharaoh’s Staff, which is found on the labyrinths of a pyramid in the middle of the Orcish desert. The goblin shall have to endure the harsh heat of the barren sands during his journey, and then he shall use his wit to overcome the Sphinx’s riddles, the deadly traps and many puzzles that are to be found inside the pyramid.

The couple await your response in silence. You have spent several minutes not saying anything, as you were busy coming up with an epic mission for the goblin… now It’s time to put his determination to test.

“Goblin! I have decided to allow your relationship with my child, wit” Before letting you finish, the woman hastily jumps in glee. “HURRAY!!! Oh, Brukt, my love! We have Kobolette’s blessing! Thank you so much, Goddess! This means everything to us!”

“WITH ONE CONDITION.” Your powerful voice echoes in the forest, angered by the kobold’s interruption. The child settles down. “A… a condition?” she mutters, afraid that your verdict may nto be as lenient as she wants it to be. The goblin pays attention to you in silence, showing more respect than your follower has done so far, which is rather surprising.

You proceed to explain to the green creature what you have in mind for him. “Brukt. During my reign as a Goddess, I have seen the depravities and evils you goblins do to all creatures, including your own kind. I have learned not to trust your species, for you care only about mating, rape and manipulation.” The goblin frowns, offended by your words of truth, but otherwise stays silent, as he should be. You get on with your speech. “… but I also know that there are exceptions, and you *might* be one of them. Nonetheless, I do not know how you feel towards my child, and I cannot allow you to be her lover if you do not prove yourself to be different from your fellow goblins. Hence, I shall send on you a quest.”

“A quest?” These words escape the goblin’s lips. You reveal that you plan on sending him to Hell to retrieve a Sacred Lotus, a beautiful divine flower that only grows in places of enormous corruption. You tell him that he must train to become strong, both in body and spirit, so he may face the horde of demons and resist the evil temptations that they will assault his mind with, for that is the only way he will emerge victorious from his journey.

It may be months, even years until he accomplishes his task, and you shall not allow the couple to reunite until he finishes the quest. The pair hears your proposal with their eyes wide open, shocked by the difficulty of the mission. Your child covers her face with her hands, hiding her expression.

“It shall be a test to see how far you are willing to go to win my child’s hand” you conclude. “Needless to say, it is a dangerous journey that will take you to your limits, but if you do succeed, then you shall be worthy of being my child’s mate, and I will bless your seed - all newborns from your relationship with Julia will be healthy kobolds.”

The pair stares at each other with their mouths opened in surprise. “Will you accept this quest, goblin?” you ask the creature. He is lost in his thoughts, considering whether to accept or reject your offer, which is a bad signal already.

Your follower shouts at the sky. “NO!!! Goddess, please! Do NOT send him to Hell! Brukt doesn’t need to prove anything, I *know* he loves me! Please, do not-“ The goblin gently puts a finger on her lips, silencing her. His eyes irradiate determination - it looks like he has made up his mind. “Julia not worry. Brukt will do quest, prove himself to Miss Kobolette.”

The couple meets each other's gaze. Your child begins to cry, and the goblin wipes away the tears from her face. “Julia not be sad… Brukt be back soon. He promises.”

“B-but Brukt… even if you come back, you will not be able to have goblin kids! Are you… are you really okay with that?” The goblin is silent for a moment, and then gives his final answer. “… Brukt happy to be with Julia forever and have healthy family with her. Brukt happy to take care of kobold sons.”

“Oh, Brukt…” The two engage in a passionate kiss, a scene that grosses you out, so you look elsewhere. You are still having trouble allowing this unnatural interspecies relationship to exist.

The green creature suddenly lets your follower go, and he sprints away without looking back. “Brukt retrieve Sacred Lotus, Miss Kobolette! Goodbye, Julia!”

Your child falls on her knees, then yells at the sky. “Why are doing this to me, Goddess?! I have finally met the love of my life, and you send him to certain death! Why don’t you let me be happy?! WHY?!”

Enough! You are tired of this kobold’s insolence. She should be happy that you deigned her with your presence at all! You are not going to engage her like this, so you cut the communication link. It is now up to the goblin to complete the quest - there is no further intervention needed.

Now you have another matter to attend to... your son’s odd insistence with slaying the two mortals without seeking a peaceful solution first. This is a most worrisome behavior.

Your son Kobcifer stares at you with his piercing eyes and his head lowered towards the ground. He is the first one to speak. “My Goddess, I must ask. Why did you bother arguing with the sinners? The woman was particularly insolent towards you, and dared to question your wisdom multiple times. I believe that the moment she refused to listen, you should have sent me there as your hand of justice to apply rightful punishment on their souls… because that is what they ultimately deserved.”

>”Kobcifer, one day you shall understand why I act the way I do. Until then, do not question my decisions, for my will is infallible, and as my guardian, you are bound to eternal obedience.”
>”My son, you must realize that you are not the first, but the final solution to a problem. Most mortal issues have to be resolved with care and without violence. When a peaceful resolution cannot be achieved, then I shall be grateful for your service.”

>Put Kobicifer's soul into a baby kobolds body. He will learn empathy for mortals if he is one of them and lives among them for a lifetime. The soul will go back to his angel form upon his death.

He needs hands on teaching. Not lectures. Also this seems like something a god would do.

>Put Kobicifer's soul into a baby kobolds body.
No way this could go wrong.

Anyways, this would be seen as a punishment, and he doesn't deserve something like this for simply requesting to be used for his intended purpose. Perhaps if his behavior remained or got worse after instruction, but not after just this one time.

I don't see it as a punishment. A mortal lifetime is like 3 days for immortal beings. Also why wouldn't we nip this in the bud right now instead of letting this get worse? His name's kobicifer anon, kobicifer, let's not let this plot point develop anymore.

Overall, yes, but this is a YOUNG immortal being. Also it doesn't matter how we see it, Kobcifer will see it as a punishment. Even if it wasn't, this seems like a silly overreaction to something that can just be a learning moment. I would say you are pushing Kobcifer more into the role of the Devil by fostering resentment in him and showing him that we are patient with others but not with him. What's wrong with just saying the "My son" prompt?

Your guardian is in need of guidance, so you give him a short lecture, hoping it is enough to set him in the right path. ”My son, you must realize that you are not the first, but the final solution to a problem. Most mortal issues have to be resolved with care and without violence. When a peaceful resolution cannot be achieved, then I shall be grateful for your service.”

Imogene and Serena are watching the scene, curious about the conversation. Kobcifer remains silent before responding, questioning your wisdom. "... Goddess, with all due respect, I believe that weeding out the bad seeds is a swifter way to establish a realm of order. I do not see why you must indulge sinners - they have chosen to stray away from the righteous path, and deserve death for it."

Oh, this dear angel... you have spent less than a month with him, yet you've grown to love him so much in this short period of time. He is a powerful, loyal guardian, always attentive to duty, but such passion and lack of flexibility may be dangerous, even if his intentions are good. He needs to grow wiser, and learn that violence is not the only solution to all mortal affairs. He must understand that their souls must be saved at all costs, and punishment is only a last resort for those who are truly lost in their evil ways.

Unfortunately, a lecture is not enough for the young angel. He is in urgent need of first-hand experience, and there is no better solution than sending him to live among kobolds. This decision hurts you, even though it is necessary. He shall be a more suitable guardian in a few dozens of years, once he lives his life as a mortal and learns to empathize with them. Once he passes away, he shall return to his divine place as your angel, ready to watch over the land and your people with an open mind and heart.

"Son, no words shall convince you, even if they come from a Goddess with thousands of years of experience behind her back" you tell Kobcifer. "That is why I have come to a decision, as drastic as it may be..."

"A decision?" Kobcifer asks in confusion. Imogene and Serena approach to hear what you're about to say, and you finally declare your intentions. "You will spend time in the mortal world to learn, my son."

You raise your hand and create a ball of godly energy in your index finger. "You shall reincarnate as a mortal, and live among other kobolds. You will learn to empathize with mortal affairs, and understand the complexity of kobold nature. You will grow wiser and eventually understand why ruling with an iron fist all the time only breeds evil and unhappiness. Once you pass away, your soul shall return to its rightful place as my guardian, and then you will be prepared to protect the land as a bringer of light."

Kobcifer lowers his head even further and starts stuttering.. "M-mother, I profusely apologize for my insolence. You are, indeed, much wiser than me - I have much to learn, I admit it. I swear by my life that I shall be a better angel from now on, and not immediately resort to violence as the first solution..."

Your son kneels before you. He is sweating, and his voice is quavering. "... but please, do not send me to live among mortals. I do not wish to leave my position as a Guardian. Give me another opportunity, Mother... please."

This is the first time you see Kobcifer behave with such desperation. His proud behavior is gone - it's as if a completely different angel was standing in front of you. It is a most saddening view.

I think we should still watch over him though. Also we shouldn't back down at every moment of fear or we'll look indecisive. Backing down now will only make him fear us and what could've been, but casting through will make him understand the wisdom of our decision
>>
>>4469917
Why did you split the votes like you did? This is a terrible count.
>>
>>4469923
The problem is that it wasn't a very wise decision in the first place. This is mostly damage control at this point, but going all in on the spur-of-the-moment exile from heaven isn't going to put us in his good graces.

Oh, by Heaven’s sake… you do not have the heart to do this. You meant it to be a lesson rather than penitence to pay, but your son has misinterpreted your intentions! Kobcifer does not want to live among mortals. His words reveal what lies in his heart - he loves his role as a Guardian, and if you take it away from him, he would grow resentful.

You take a minute to meditate and reconsider your decision. Perhaps there is no need to send Kobcifer to the mortal realm… he has promised to be open to your teachings, and his word is more than enough. You’re sure that he will learn by observing mortals from afar without having to live among them. That is how you learned to be a great Goddess, after all!

It is decided. You will grant Kobcifer another chance. You lower your hand, making the ball of energy disappear. “My dear son” you tell him, “I shall respect your wishes. Know that I never meant this to be a punishment, but rather an opportunity for you to learn more about the people we protect.”

Kobcifer lets out a sigh of relief. “… Thank you, Mother. You need not to worry, for I promise I shall become a good angel by observing and learning from your actions.”

… Oh, screw all this formal talk! You stand up from your throne with your arms wide open. “That’s my son! Give mommy a hug!” Kobcifer is taken aback by your sudden change of demeanor and tone, but he complies with his mom’s wishes and embraces you, suspending you in the air. Oh my! This is one tall boy!

After a long and slightly odd –but pleasant- gesture of affection, your son releases you. While you were hugging each other, you pondered about what to do to make him feel that his service matters. It definitely does, it’s just that you have not needed it yet, but being the young and inexperienced angel that he is, he is clearly expectant to fulfill his tasks.

You still haven’t uncovered what kind of demon possessed that one kobold from a year ago… maybe Kobcifer can help you in your investigation. “Son, now that I think about it, I do require your assistance in an important matter.”

Your angel stands tall and proud, back to his old self. “I am at your service, Goddess.” You explain what happened last year: how a kobold was possessed, how the shaman was not able to detect the evil spirit, and how the tribe blasphemed against you. Kobcifer frowns when you tell him of their sins, but settles down after you describe their immediate repentance. “Mortals are strange” he comments. Indeed they are. Their impulsive and often contradictory nature surprises you, even to this day.

Kobcifer will wander the continent, and gather all the information he can about this new type of demon. He may have to disguise himself as a kobold and interact with other mortals, so it looks like he will be among them after all. Reincarnating him in a baby kobold truly was not necessary at all!

Kobcifer departs immediately, enthusiastic to do his mission. "My Goddess, I shall be back as soon as I find something out."

"Take care out there, Kobs" Serena says, waving him away. Imogene flies up to him and gives him a hug. "Ooooh, I wish I could go with you! It sounds fun!"

********************

It has been a few hours since Kobcifer departed from your palace. It already feels emptier without his presence. You hope he enjoys his journey and learns much from it.

Asides from the incident in the morning regarding the kobold and the goblin, it's been a nice quiet day so far. Serena is administering your daily prayers, handing to you the most important ones and answering the rest herself. All under your godly guidance, of course. She is still young and, just like Kobcifer, she has much to learn about mortals and your divine principles.

As you are relaxing in your throne, Serena suddenly looks up to you with a mildly concerned look. "Miss Kobolette, I have received a special prayer... it's from Gobby."

... Oh, right. You remember you were supposed to talk to him about keeping his goblins away from your lands. But why is he the first to establish contact with you? Does this have something to do with the goblin you sent on a quest?

It's been hundreds of years since you talked to this depraved god. All your conversations with him are unpleasant and full of obscene flirts from his part.

This meeting will be a disaster. You feel the tension build up just by thinking about it…

You cannot allow the pervert’s comments to get to you. If Gobby's words end up provoking you into attacking him, it could go very bad for either of you, as his powers are equal to yours.

As a Goddess, you are used to being treated with respect, which you clearly deserve due to your supreme powers and wisdom. You would gladly fight Gobby and make him pay for all his offenses, if it were not for the fact that a million of kobolds are under your care. Risking your life over a personal grudge would be a selfish and immature act.

So long as Gobby keeps his hands to himself and leaves your people alone, you shall avoid physical confrontation. You will NOT lower yourself to his level...

Easier said than done, though, so you open a bottle of wine and gulp its contents down to the last drop. It’s a shame that you must resort to such lowly tactics to keep your wrath under control, but you need to be relaxed for the challenge you are about to face.

A sigh escapes your lips. You shall quickly settle the matters that concern you both, and then say goodbye, hopefully for ALL eternity. “Hand it to me, Serena.” You are ready for whatever is to come.

You establish contact with Gobby and…

… What’s going on? Why does his figure look so blurry?

“I cannot see you clearly” you tell him. The goblin god says something, but his voice is low and unclear. “KOBOLE… THI… HE... HE HE…”

“What? I cannot hear you” you explain, getting tired of this nonsense. “Put more power into our communication link, please.”

After a whole minute of trying to communicate with Gobby to no avail, the quality of the image and sound finally begin to improve…

The pervert hides his private parts. “Gobby like to see Kobolette angry. Angry mommy is cute... he he he...”

The knowledge that he is aroused in this very instant is legitimately creeping you out. There is NO other person in the world that you feel so uncomfortable talking to! All you desire is to get this over with as soon as possible, and return to your tasks!

Gonna continue the quest this friday.

>>4472771
A thousand years ago, humans inhabited the continent besides the other races. Their god was considered the most powerful and wise of all the deities.

One day, Kobolette and the other gods felt a violent mayhem going on in human territory. which was sending destructive shockwaves across the planet. The gods had to work together to prevent them from destroying the world, and they couldn't contact the human god or see what was happening in his lands.

When the chaos ceased, human civilization was in ruins. All humans were wiped out, and their god had disappeared without leaving a trace. To this day, Kobolette and the other deities have no idea of what happened. Their only explanation is that the human god went mad and destroyed his own people before ending his own life.

More about this event will be addressed later on in the quest.

“Gobby.” You raise your index finger. ”First of all, I offered the quest to Brukt if he really wanted to marry the kobold. It was not something I forced him to do.”

The goblin god returns to his serious demeanor. “To answer Kobolette’s first point, Gobby *know* Kobolette not force Brukt to do quest. The problem is that Brukt willingly obey Goddess and accept kobold seed curse. Very bad and unloyal follower. Brukt can die in journey to Hell for all Gobby cares.”

He points an accusying finger at you. “It was Kobolette who influenced Brukt to offend Gobby. Brukt could have asked Gobby, ‘Please bless the kobold so she only gives birth to goblins!’, but Brukt preferred kobold seed curse, so Gobby will punish Brukt for insolence. Gobby take kobold Julia to tribe for true followers to enjoy!“

Gobby licks his lips. “Maybe Gobby join in, too… hmmm… if Gobby cannot take Kobolette, then he take another kobold.”

All the depravities this monster spouts repulses you. “If you EVER lay a finger on my children, the consequences will be severe" you assert with absolute confidence. "You would be wise not to do anything stupid, Gobby. As I said before, keep your people away from my kobolds, and this will not happen again.”

The goblin sighs. “Kobolette ask difficult things. Goblins like kobolds very much, but can only admire from afar because kobold goddess not allow gobbos to approach them. Gobby can only do so much to prevent followers from following natural urges.”

“Then try HARDER.” you elevate your voice, nearly losing your composure again. ”I already do my part to keep my children far away from your lands, so it is up to you to keep your verm- I mean, goblins away from my lands!”

“… Maybe Kobolette can come over to palace and give Gobby a big, sloppy kiss?” Gobby says with a kissing face that makes your stomach revolt. "That would appease Gobby's wrath. Easy and simple."

No way you’re going with his offer! You propose the goblin something different...

“What if all of Brukt and Julia’s children are of a mixed race? I will divine away any health complications that come with that.”

“Gross” the goblin says with a frown. "Gobby only wants PURE blooded goblins.”

Pfft! Look who’s talking about gross! Since when did he care about racial purity? The lack of self-awareness of this monster is breath taking, but whatever. You think of another offer…

“Okay, then consider the following. What if we make it so Julia gives birth to a kobold, then a goblin, and so on?”

“NO KOBOLDS” Gobby vociferates. “Kobolette's counteroffers are terrible. Gobby does NOT benefit from any of that. Kobolette must make GOOD amends for making Brukt betray Gobby. She must make Gobby feel GOOD.”

You think of a way to appease Gobby that doesn't involve ANY physical contact with him, and come up with a good solution. It's clear this goblin wants something of pervy nature, so what's better than giving a pillow with a kobold design on it? He can latch onto it any time he wants, like the horny creature he is.

It's an absolute shame that you're putting the effort to appease this creature at all, but it's better than going to war over two mortals. And it's FAR better than kissing him. You'd rather die before that happens!

"Gobby, will you shut up if I offer you a limited one of a kind, kobold body pillow?

Goblins have all sort of wild preferences, but most of them have a soft spot for big sexual features and being dominant during mating. Gobby is no exception, though he likes you a lot, much more than any other kobold

The design of the pillow will be one that satisfies any goblin’s warped mind: a female kobold of unrealistic proportions. That will surely appeal to Gobby’s tastes.

With your eyes closed, you snap your fingers, and the pillow receives the design you envisioned. Gobby’s reaction to it confirms that you’ve made the right choice. “OOOOOOOOOHHHH!!! SHE CUTE!!!”

You cannot bring yourself to gaze at the decadent object you've just created, so you teleport it to Gobby’s palace right away.

“There’s your pillow. Is that enough ‘amends’ from my part?” you ask the goblin god, who's busy admiring his new prize, as if it was the greatest treasure in all of existence.

“YESSSS, YESSSS!!! Gobby VERY satisfied!!!” he says in pure ecstasy. That does it, then. You've just avoided a war thanks to this object, which is good news. “Does that mean you will leave Brukt and Julia alone?"

“Yeah, Gobby not care about those two. Gobby now enjoy time with sexy kobold! OOOOOHHH!!! GOBBY IS C-“

You cut the communication link before hearing anything else.

Oh, what a stressful day… you’ve had to deal with more situations than usual, so you don’t have energy left to do anything else. All you can do now is meditate to cleanse yourself from your conversation with Gobby.

You’re so glad that Serena is taking care of all the prayers. If it weren’t for her, you’d have to keep working non-stop. Creating servants was the best idea you’ve ever had.

Its time for the Goddess to take a nice, long rest.

While are you busy doing Goddess work, you suddenly receive the prayer of a goblin! Why is a creature like this praying to you? You’re not their go-

Wait a moment, this mortal looks familiar. And you’re pretty sure you’ve seen the kobold that stands beside him, too...

Oh, now you recall who they are! They are the interspecies couple from a year ago. You resolved to send the goblin in a quest to Hell to recover a Sacred Lotus as a test to prove his worthiness to have your child’s hand.

The goblin named Brukt raises his left hand, showing you the hellish flower that only grows in places of great corruption. “Miss Kobolette. Brukt complete quest. Please accept flower, and bless Brukt with kobold seed.”

After a year of training and adventuring, he finally succeeded in his legendary task, though it came at a great price - it costed him his left eye, left ear and right arm. You cannot help but be impressed at his feat and determination.

There is no room for doubt - Brukt loves Julia. That a goblin was willing to go to such heights for a mate... it is not something you see every day, especially from his species. It warms your heart to know that amazing mortals can come from terrible origins, just like the beautiful Sacred Lotus only grows in the worst place on Earth.

The kobold named Julia remains silent, but you sense resentment aimed towards you in her heart. Unfortunately, she still has not realized the purpose of Brukt's test, and why it was completely necessary.

Brukt informs you that he and Julia are going to live a secluded life in the mountains, away from other goblins and kobolds. They are going to raise their children there, as both Julia and Brukt’s tribes have outcasted them.

"Brukt, I doubted you at first, but you have truly surprised me. Only one whose devotion was true could have withstood the trials and temptations, as you did." Raising your hand to the sky, you take the Sacred Lotus. The beautiful flower shall be a great decoration for your palace, and its origins add more value to it.

You grant Brukt your blessing. From now on, he will only impregnate your child with healthy kobold kids. No birth defect shall be born from their relationship. They will be able to form a family together, as they always desired. Nonetheless, the goblin deserves far more for his efforts. You snap your fingers, and all his lost body parts grow back in the blink of an eye.

Brukt falls to his knees, speechless at the unexpected gift. He manages to mumble a few words. “Brukt thanks kobold goddess…” It may be a simple sentence, but his gratitude is genuine and heartfelt. Julia cannot hold her tears away anymore. She breaks down crying and jumps on Brukt, dropping him to the ground and hugging him tightly.” The goblin responds by gently embracing your child back.

You grant the couple an extra wish. Julia asks that you always watch over them and their future children, which you promise to do so. The kobold does not hold resentment in her heart anymore - she has finally realized that you never let your followers down.

As for Brukt, what he asks for greatly surprises you. “Miss Kobolette, no take offense, but… can Brukt have, uh… bigger 'spear'? Please?”

Julia chuckles at his request. Brukt may be a paragon mortal, but he is still a goblin, so you will be pleased to grant him the wish he asks for. Even though it lacks spiritual signifiance to you, it is of great value to him, and he more than deserves it.

“Ooooh! Nice!” he shouts excitedly. "Brukt is grateful!”

The couple do not want to return to their tribes. They feel betrayed by their friends and families, so they want to spend their time alone, not risking to be looked down upon. Brukt and Julia made the top of a big mountain located in your lands their new home.

**********

Many months later, the couple contacts you to tell you that Julia gave birth to a kobold boy with no health issues. They are excited for becoming parents, and also deeply grateful for your blessings and protection.

All their children shall be blessed with health and fortune. Though they will be raised in the mountains, you will make sure that they are accepted in your tribes, provided they want to visit them some day.

Their love story has met a satisfactory end for now, but that doesn't mean their lives will be free of conflict. The flame that stirs up their passionate romance will gradually wear out, a fate that awaits all couples that spend years living together. However, as long as they remain loyal to each other, in both good and bad times, their bond will remain eternal. You are certain that your children understand this.

As usual, Kobcifer will report back during this friday. Your son will tell you everything he has found out so far about new types of demons.

Your archangel has grown so much as a person since he began his journey to the mortal realms... he’s more respectful, less impulsive, and he always pays attention to your wise inputs. Your child is on the way to becoming an amazing guardian.

You walk around your palace, looking for something to do while attending to Imogene whenever she asks to play with you. Everything seems to be in order so far, as it has always been, except for one thing - Serena has abandoned her post. She's not attending to the daily prayers as she's supposed to. Your daughter is sitting on the edge of the palace, admiring the horizon.

As you walk towards Serena to ask why she's not doing her duties, you suddenly receive a prayer of a common folk kobold. You immediately consider cutting the communication link, as his sacrifice is a mere rabbit, but the way he greets you catches your attention in a VERY bad way.

“H-heeeeeey, you! Are you, like, supposed to be the goddess or somethin’?! Am I talkin’ to her right now?!”

… What is the meaning of this? What is with this child’s irreverent behavior?! You make a quick check of his surroundings, and soon realize that this mortal is drunk. There’s another kobold to his side speaking to him. “Hey man, you should not talk to the Goddess like that. Do you want to get smited?” You notice a small smirk on the man’s face as he watches his companion's drunk ramblings.

“Yooo, goddess", the intoxicated kobold mumbles, "Why don’t ya’ bless me with MORE stuff?! I do, like, plenty of charity… and I’m cool to my neighbors, so I d-deserve more things, y’know?! Why don’t cha’ appreciate my efforts! Ye’re just like my wife, g-goddess… you're ssssstupid... ungrateful... all women are the same… but you’re still so beautiful, ehehehehe…” He lets out a loud fart.

Hmmm, something is fishy here. Perhaps this situation is related to Serena leaving her post? You decide to read the minds of both kobolds to have a better understanding of what's going on. Your findings give you a much clearer outlook.

Drunk Kobold's mind: “Ooooooh man, I hate my life… got no friends, my wife cheats on me and beats me up… my kids hate me… BAH! Screw them! The entire world can go to hell! I’m too smart for them’… all I need is a nice bottle of wine and I’m good. Everyone else can rot!”

Sober Kobold's mind: “I’m done with this drunkard. There is not a single goddamn time I have seen him NOT intoxicated. His terrible smell taints the air, and he insults everyone that walks past him, including me! He’s a waste of resources and nobody loves him, so he might as well be dead. I told him that he should blame the Goddess for his crappy life, and I even handed him a rabbit so he can establish contact with her. She’ll smite him for his insolence, and then I won’t have to deal with the pestering idiot again. Maybe if I pretend to be concerned, the Goddess will bless me even, so I may as well take this opportunity.

Hmmm... what to do... what to do...

… Meh. You don't usually do this, but you really aren’t up to attend to these mortals. This case should be handled by Serena, anyway. You created her not only to keep you company, but also to support you on guiding your earthly children.

You approach your angel. “Serena?" you greet her as you tap her shoulders. "Why have you abandoned your duties?” The greeting startles her. She quickly turns around, revealing a surprised look on her face. “Goddess! I… I was resting a little… I’m sorry for getting distracted! I will return to work at once!”

After thousands of years of giving therapy to countless kobolds, you've learned to recognize when they're lying or hiding something. Judging by your daughter's demeanor and tone of voice, it is crystal clear that she's sad, though she doesn't want to reveal it. You decide to press the issue. “Something is bothering you. What is it?”

Serena lets out a nervous chuckle. “I-it’s nothing, haha... I’m just a little bummed out, that’s all, but I promise I won’t let it get in the way of my duties again!”

She gets back on her feet and bows to you before proceeding to walk to her desk, but you stop her. “Not so fast” you insist. “You may be my servant, but you are also my daughter. Know that you can always be open to me about your feelings.”

The angel lowers her head. “I… I am sorry, Mother…” You gently grab her shoulder and lead her to the edge of the palace to sit together, admiring the view to the clouds.

Your daughter sighs. “Goddess, forgive me for not attending to my duties. I have tried my best to not let these thoughts distract me from work, but they’ve finally defeated me…”

“What’s exactly troubling you?”

“It’s just…" Serena takes her time to find the right words to express her thoughts. "... It’s just that I’m kind of tired of answering prayers, and hear the same problems every time. Marital issues, requests for free stuff, blessings to win silly competitions, requests for health or strength to cope with the death of loved ones… it has become so dull and repetitive. I am not as enthusiastic as I was a year ago."

Serena lowers her head in embarrassment. "I am sorry for giving you trouble, Goddess. I want to be useful, but I do not know how to deal with this apathy in my soul. I am having a hard time envisioning myself doing this for all eternity..."

The angel raises her head, meeting your gaze. “May I ask how do you do it, Mother? How do you not get bored of dealing with mortal issues for thousands of years? What lesson must I learn from this?

The boredom your child experiences is a phase you went through many thousands of years ago, when you were a young Goddess. You were tired of dealing with so many prayers, and found them all to be repetitive and tedious to answer. Such was your frustration that you diverted your attention to hobbies and entertainment, and while it made life a bit more tolerable, doing your godly work was still unpleasant, as mortal issues were all the same. Nothing was enticing to attend to.

You had lost your love and dedication as a divine guide... and thus, you lost direction. You saw no meaning to your existence. You were depressed.

It was then that the human god came and gave you great advice. You needed not only leisure time, but also a change of perspective! He adviced you to focus on living the present, and to treat every mortal case as if it was unique. Easier said than done, of course, but once you got the hang of applying his suggested principles, you began to care about your people again, and you felt the divine flame in your heart stir up again!

A Goddess like you, taking advice from another being. It is kind of ironic, but you felt so much respect towards the god of humans that you took his words to heart. 'One of the greatest struggles of an eternal being is to not become apathetic to their surroundings', he told you. It is absolutely true... but it is a battle that must be fought. Mortals need an eternal, loving figure to look up to, one that never betrays or lets them down. It is a huge responsibility, but it is your duty as a Goddess to be that ideal figure, and Serena shall learn to be one too.

However, she is still young, and needs your guidance, just as the human god guided you when you needed it the most. It's been almost two years since you created your daughter, and she is understandably tired. All the work she does is burning her out, especially since she hasn't taken a vacation or done anything different other than answer prayers. Besides advice, she also needs a vacation!

"Really, Mother?" your child responds with a surprised gaze, to which you smile and nod. "Indeed! It is a phase that all divine beings experience at some point in their lives. We get burned out from doing our duties. which in turn makes life seem boring and pointless."

"Yes... that is SO true", your daughter says, looking lost in her thoughts. You caress her cheek to get her attention. "My child, heed my words - you must live the present, and not dwell in the past. Treat every situation as if it was unique, and you will find it easier to appreciate every case presented before you. If you see life through these lens, you will be passionate about helping mortals again. This is the lesson that helped me overcome that phase!"

Serena is silent for a moment before a whisper escapes her lips. "...Thank you, Mother." Although her words express gratitude, her demeanor reveals pessimism and disappointment. It is the same reaction you had to the human god's suggestions the first time you heard them.

"Boredom is much simpler to treat that most people think", you elaborate further. "It is a matter of putting the effort to care!"

"Putting effort to care...?", your daughter repeats your words, meditating on them. "I don't understand, Mother..."

You put your hand on your daughter's shoulder again, making memory of the human god's words. "Many years ago, a wise god told me that the greatest struggle of ageless beings is to not become indifferent to all which surround us, in this case, mortals and their issues. It is a constant battle against ourselves, dearie, but I assure you that if you follow my advice, you will quickly overcome this phase and enjoy answering prayers again."

Your daughter lets out a long sigh. "Mother, I am happy that you care about my well being... I don't know if it's because I'm tired or just stupid, but I find it a difficult lesson to learn."

"Do not call yourself stupid, Serena", you correct your child's behavior. "You are tired, which affects your judgement and mood. Your body and mind need to rest before you can meditate on my advice... so you can take a vacation if you want!"

"A-a vacation?!", your daughter responds, opening her eyes in surprise at your proposal. "But Mother... you created me so I could help you in your tasks! Would that be okay with you...?" There is indecisiveness in her voice. It is clear that she'd love to take a rest from her duties, but she also does not want to disappoint you.

"Even the wisest being in the universe would go crazy if all she did is answer prayers!" you tell your child. "Feel free to rest for two months. I've handled work for thousands of years - sixty days is nothing to me!"

"Mother... I love you. Thank you so much for everything you do for me." Serena hugs you.

Serena will go on a vacation! It takes her about an hour to gather her belongings. Her behavior has completely changed - she is enthusiastic, happy and greatly excited about taking a break for two months. You're confident that during this time, your daughter will rest well and reflect on your words, and come back much better prepared to serve as a divine guide.

The vacation spot of her choice is an island to the west, which is home to many types of animals, but no kobolds. She wants to spend her time in a tranquil and lonely place, refreshing her mind by not having to hear the troubles of other people.

Your angel departs the sky palace, and Imogene and you wave her goodbye as she flies away. You can't help but feel a little sad - Serena makes for nice company, and you'll greatly miss her presence during these two months. At least you have Imogene and Kobcifer by your side!

After saying your goodbyes to your dear daughter, you intend to return to your work, when you suddenly remember that you've still got to decide what to do with the two kobolds from before. An hour has passed, however - they may have left the place of prayer by now, but there's no harm on checking...

Surprisingly, the pair are still there. And they're arguing with each other.

The drunk child shouts at the sober one. "H-heeeey, why'd the Goddess cut me ouuuutt, anywayy? Ye'... ye probably scared her away with yer ugly face, dude! You freakin' dumbass, I almost conquered her with muh charmssssss... pfffffftt....."

The other mortal has a look of pure hatred on his face. "Get your stinking breath away from my face, loser. Please, go throw yourself off a precipice or something, PLEASE. You're just a waste of air."

A simple mortal issue like this has a simple solution. The drunk kobold shall receive therapy so he can overcome his alcohol addiction and get his life back on track.

However, you won't be doing the treatment in person. This is a great opportunity to give a second test to your angel creating powers! A personal guardian that serves as a permanent guide and advisor will surely help your drunk child sort out all of his problems.

With a snap of your fingers, you smite the mortal's booze to signal that he must halt his decadent behavior. He is so shocked by the blast that he snaps out of his drunkenness! Smiting objects is one of the most effective ways to get any kobold's attention.

At the same time, you create Natalia, a guardian angel bound to help the man by imparting your principles and wisdom.

"Hi, Jim!" your new daughter greets the surprised mortal. "I am Natalia, your guardian angel. I've been sent by the Goddess to help you overcome your drinking problems and be a better man!"

"My... my guardian angel?" the now-sober child says, still in stupor due to all the wine he drunk.

Your angel playfully teases him as she slaps the back of his head. "That's what I said, dummy! I guess all that alcohol DID rot your brain after all, tee hee he!". Unfortunately, the mortal takes her comments way too seriously, and lowers his head in evident sadness. "That ain't nice..."

"The truth isn't always nice, Jim" your angel asserts with a more serious tone. "You have committed many mistakes, and they all led to where you are now. Do not put the blame on others for your failures!"

The mortal doesn't respond. He's aware that her guardian says the truth, but is too embarrassed with himself to admit it. After Natalia realizes that she's disciplined him enough, she consoles him. "Awww, don't be sad! You may be a little misguided, but deep in your heart, I can see that you're a good and humble man. I promise that if you listen to my advice, you'll get your life back together!"

Your child raises his head, his eyes lost and devoid of life. "... No, little one. It's too late. I'm too jaded and stupid to fix myself."

"It's never too late!" the guardian angel tries to cheer him up. "Your safety and happiness is my biggest concern, so don't turn your back on me when we've just met! You just gotta' have faith on me, and we'll get you out of this mess. But I need your support, okay?"

There's a few seconds of silence, after which the mortal shrugs. "... Fine. Whatever." Natalia smiles and claps in the air. "Great! We're progressing!"

Indeed they are. You're confident that your angel will do a fantastic job with your child. She will report to you in a few months to inform the results of the therapy, but you trust that her intervention will be successful.

"Pfft, this is ridiculous" you hear the bystander kobold mutter to himself as he watches the scene, unaware of your godly hearing sense. "Is the Goddess for real? This drunkard is a lost case!"

This child's remarks remind you that you have reserved a special divine punishment for him...

The blasphemous kobold will be punished for daring to use you as a tool for his selfish goals, foolishly believing that you would never figure his true intentions.

With another snap of your fingers, a ray of light hits your child's head. He's taken aback by its sheer power. "W-what was that?! Goddess, what did you to me?!"

The kobold shall never be able to spout a lie for the rest of his life. May his curse of honesty serve as an incentive to change his heart, unless he doesn't mind being known by everyone as a manipulative and bitter kobold with no love for his neighbor.

"Goddess, what the hell did you do to me?! You are a who-" The mortal covers his mouth and starts to panic due to the atrocious blasphemy he was about to shout aloud in your presence, and he runs away from the scene. The mere thought of the offense crossing his mind merits him being smited, but your sinner child is fortunate that you are in a VERY good mood today.

And with that, you cut the communication link. Yet another situation has meet its resolution thanks to your godly, perfect wisdom.

"A crummy pail of water?!" Imogene exclaims. "Mother, this story is SO boring!"

"Hmm... I don't like it either, dearie" you confess. "How about I read you the tale of Fantastic Mister Gnoll?"

Your daughter looks excited. "YAAAAYYYY!!!"

As you flip the book pages to reach the desired fairytale, you suddenly receive a call from Kobcifer. He arrived today, as you expected, though a bit later than you'd have preferred.

"Greetings, my Goddess. I have arrived with a new report on the demons. My recent findings are rather... concerning, I'm afraid. I am waiting for you in the throne room."

"Motheeeeeer! Tell me the story!" Imogene asks impatiently.
