Midoriya Izuku is filled with the power of will, of determination, of spirit. He isn't filled with any other power, such as a quirk, which kind of puts a damper on his dream to be a hero. Tragically, Midoriya Izuku is also you. Which means you're the useless nobody who just had Bakugou Katsuki tell you to kill yourself and throw your property out of a window, before he swaggered off with his lackeys.

As you pick your Hero Analysis from the fish-pond, glumly wondering whether you'll be able to save it or have to rewrite the whole thing, you consider your next move.

[ ] Head home. Life goes on, and this wasn't really any worse than usual.
[ ] Try to dry the notebook out at school, even if it means staying late.
[ ] Walk into town - you're going to need a new notebook now, and there may be a fight to watch.
[ ] Consider Kacchan's words and maybe - re-evaluate things?

>re-evaluate your life

Holding the dripping book, you peer at the stuck-together pages. You could maybe salvage... some of it? Maybe if you dried it at school - but no. Grimacing, you stare at the soaked cover.

Hero Analysis for the Future. Number 13. Thirteen! You have thirteen whole notebooks like this (but less wet), and yet -

What have these notebooks ever done for you? You've enjoyed writing in them, sure, but knowing anything and everything about other heroes or villains isn't going to give you your own quirk. All it does is make everyone in class think you're a creepy stalker.

A steady trickle of dirty water dribbles down onto the ground, and you gingerly place the book on the side of the pond, mind turning. Is... Kacchan right? Not about jumping off the roof, of course not, but - no-one disagrees with him that you need a quirk to be a hero. Even mom said -

The horribly prickling in your eyes tells you the family tears are coming, and you shut your eyes tight as your body trembles, feeling suddenly

You feel... cold. Numb. Barely aware of your own body as you realize the dream you held onto for more than a decade, since even before your diagnosis, the reason you drag yourself in the way of every bully's blow aimed at someone else, your entire vision of the future -

Is nothing.

A fantasy.

A cobweb lovingly created and then torn apart by a casual brush with reality.

All these people weren't just being cruel, even if their methods were. They were right. You can't get into U.A. without a quirk. You can't become a top hero with a quirk.

Clenching your fists, barely feeling the sting of your nails digging into your palm, all you can hear is the distant thud of your heart and the icy clarity of your thoughts, as you know that everything you've aspired to is a, pathetic immature lie.

[ ] A lie that you're going to crush in favor of a better, truer dream, whatever it may be. Reject the impossible path of a hero.
[ ] A lie that you're going to force to become true. You'll prove them wrong, all of them, and carve your way into heroism, no matter the cost.

Your eyes snap open, logic settling in where silly emotion vanished.

You need a new path. A new... not dream, dreams are nonsense, but a new goal. You don't yet know what that goal is, and that's fine. You're barely fifteen years old, you're the second smartest kid in your year, and you've got this.

Maybe you don't know what 'this' is, but you've got time to figure it out. There's a whole world of possibilities out there! Slowly unclenching your fists, you come back to the world around you, Aldera Middle School and your poor, bedraggled notebook.

First things first.

You're not abandoning your notebook. You're just... giving it some time to dry out. It's not like anyone'll be coming by here anyway, so you can pick it up before you leave.

For now though, you go back into the school, trailing down corridors in search of Uzu-sensei's office.

The career guidance counsellor is apparently a little... odd. Not that you'd know, because you never bothered to go see her, because why would you? You were going to be a HERO, and that was that.

Except now your future is in flux, and maybe someone who's hopefully an expert in poking students towards a career based on their talents just might come in handy.

Swallowing your nervousness, you can hear muffled music from behind her door, so she's certainly in. No excuses. You reach out and knock hard, wincing slightly at the sudden clink of a mug being set down inside the room.

Footsteps next, and then the door opens a crack, a woman's face looking down on you, eyes confused behind her thick glasses. "Yes?"

Staring down at the floor in mild social panic, you can't see Uzu-sensei's reaction, but you can hear it.

"Uh. Oh, you're that quirkless third year, right?" She sounds as confused as she'd appeared. "Weren't you meant to come see a few weeks ago?"

Yes, but you were too busy rushing out early to get that limited-release All Might poster. There's no way you'll admit to that, though! "I was ill," you faintly mumble, face burning as you gaze down at the tile. "But - please, advise me!"

You hear her groan, shifting weight from one foot to the other. "Good at research... make a difference,,, but no quirk... well. First you'll have to look at what sort of difference you want to make. Small-scale? Large? For individuals or society? To make people happier, or safer, or healther?"

You falter. "I want to make the world better... somehow...? Maybe...?" You didn't get that far! That's why you're here!

"That's confident of you," Uzu-sensei grumbles, and maybe you weren't meant to hear that. You peek up to see her frowning harder, before she steps back and away, motioning you into the office. "Come on - Masariya?"

"Midoriya," you correct, as politely as possible. She isn't sneering at you for being quirkless, or suggesting you become a janitor, so maybe you can stay on her good side. Slipping into the room, you tentatively sit on the chair she points at, Uzu-sensei half-slumping into the one on the other side of her desk. The radio is still playing - some upbeat pop-tune - and her coffee mug and book (Advanced Electrical Engineering vol III?) are ignored on the desk. "So can you help me at all?"

"Maybe," she says bluntly, which is zero help by itself. "Midoriya, you say you want to make a difference; why?"

Your mouth sets in a firm line as you try to put your feelings into words. Even though you're not really sure what those feelings <i>are</i>. "When I was a little kid, it was because I wanted to be like All Might. Now I think... I hate the way the world is right now."

Right now, you don't matter. To everyone but your mother (and maybe your father?), you never have. Because you can't breathe fire, or attract small objects, or even just change your hair color, you're essentially worthless

And you <i>hate</i> that.

"To hate the way the world is..." Uzu-sensei murmurs, a gleam emerging in her eyes as she sits back, expression twisting into a wide grin "Good! That's good! Midoriya, that's some real motivation, right there! Don't find what you love and do it - find what you hate, and destroy it!"

Wait, what?

"Passion and spite! Those are the purest fuels you can have! The way the world is..." She leans closer, still ebullient. "I take it this is because of your disability, right?"

[ ] It's... not a disability, but yes. I'm not useless just because I'm normal! (More focus on personal achievement)

You can't help but fidget uncomfortably at the word 'disability' being used like that, but legally, that's what you are. "I guess, but mostly I think it just opened my eyes to how awful people are to each other. How bad society is."

Uzu-sensei nods sympathetically. "There's a lot wrong with the way the world is, Midoriya. Big and small, things that affect only a few people, or many... if you want to make a real difference, you can't just work on the symptoms. you have to attack the root cause of the problem, even if takes a long time."

Something flares hot inside you as you jerk your head up to stare her directly in the eye. "I know that! I'm not just messing around, sensei. I'm willing to work hard, for as long as it takes!"

Uzu-sense nods slightly, looking pleased. "Good! So let's consider some options, and you can tell me how you feel about them, or ask questions. Politics? A media career? Law? Or maybe something high-earning, so you can direct money at different problems?"

[ ] (Approve/disapprove of certain careers? Suggest something else?)
Approve of something high earning that could definitely help someway
>>
>questions

You can't think of a specific career; this is all too new for you, and there are too many options, even if they're narrowed down by your quirkless status. Instead, you turn towards your friend and savior, research.

"Even without a quirk, is there... some way to be seen in the same light as a hero?"

Uzu-sensei's eyebrow raises briefly. "A hero? That's - honestly, that depends how you mean. Heroes 'save people', that's the point of them. Perhaps by becoming a politician or industry leader, you can make changes that'll have you be seen as a hero to many, but most people don't think of doctors or fire-fighters in the same way. If you mean the popularity and celebrity status, there are many ways to achieve that, though they depend on managing a fickle public"

You nod, thinking. "And - have there been any major movements to change how society is, before now?" Learn from the lessons of the past is a valid maxim.

"Oh, plenty!" She laughs. "Again, it's a matter of scale, although if we're talking the biggest type started by humans rather than as a result a new invention or resource... you'd probably have to look a while back, to when quirks first emerged. It was individuals who really stepped forwards and changed things there, rather than governments... although to a lesser degree, I guess All Might's emergence was a major social shift for Japan. You're too young to remember how bad things were back then..." She trails off, and you recall reading books and news articles from before you were born. They really did need a Symbol of Peace in those years.

You think you maybe want something high-earning? Money is a source of power that no-one can deny, even if they look down on it. Still, it's nothing definite.

[ ] Ask about (career path/s).

Supporting this, asking about investigations and information is a good start (though I'd doubt a guidance councillor will be able to tell us much unless they have some *really* shady connections - we should probably look into what Eraserhead and Nighteye get up to after this since this is right up their alley.)

I'd rather we go the vigilante / neutral route rather than becomefull blown villain (unless we become a "villain" who's MO is taking on both corrupt heroes and villians, which is something I could get behind)

Investigative journalist is a good "cover" story to give if someone asks us about our future career though (which they will because we're still a kid). If we turn it into a fully fledged cover identity then that could get us into the more legitmate information channels.

we could also just go joker, and try to use show the world how "worhless" quirks really are

Sorry about last night, fell asleep without saying I was going. Looks like people are leaning towards investigative journalism, at least for a cover!

>student journalism

"Like I said before, I'm pretty good at research and analysis," you say, voice thoughtful. "I think I should play to my strengths there, and... I kind of like the idea of being a journalist? Not just writing articles on whatever I'm told, I mean, but actually going out and..." You trail off, trying to find the words.

"Investigate? Real investigative reporters are quite rare these days," Uzu0sensei says, though she doesn't seem disapproving. "Most people prefer a nine-to-five with minimal danger, and that sort of thing tends to make enemies of people who can ruin your life."

Considering you wanted to be a hero and risk getting killed every day, that's no problem. "Not an issue," you say firmly, shoulders squaring. "I'm not afraid of risk, and -" It's not like you have a social life or girlfriend to threaten - who'd want to befriend or date a quirkless freak? With your dad in America, the only concern is your mother and you think she'd just be happy you're not trying to be a hero.

Speaking of heroes... "- and... I think I might want to focus reporting on heroes." They are your main interest, after all, your specialty. Aside from that, there's so many scandals in the last few years; bribes and blackmail, cheating partners and even heroes hiring themselves out as muscle for gangs. It's mostly the lower-ranked heroes, but all that really points to in your opinion is that the high-rankers' agencies have the money and lawyers to make problems disappear.

Unless someone comes in and points them out to the public.

"Hero scandals?" Uzu-sensei's eyes light up in glee and she claps her hands. "How exciting! I do love a good bit of drama! But!" She leans in, serious again. "You realize this is a proper career, like any other? You can't just walk out of school and into a job reporting - you need plenty of practice and experience! There's the school newspaper, or you could try submitting articles to the Mustutafu papers, or maybe start a blog. And if you want to get out and about, you'll need to learn how to investigate things properly, even if you're not going to be chasing real scandals just yet!"

Hmm i'm thinking of taking some detective request to work on our investigate skill after the blog working on cases like missing pets & items maybe gain a bit of money while we are at it but if we gain a rep it'll may expose us before we get to actually work on exposing corrupt heroes & the sort

Also since we are working towards be an investigative journalist we might need equipment like hidden mics & cameras
So either we gain money by a part time job , taking cases like i said above for a bit of money, or when our blog gain a certain amount of popularity we work on using ads to gain money

"I think starting my own blog could be interesting..." Not to mention it'll give you more control over the subject and what you write about it. Plus, it gives you a chance to keep your identity secret - no-one can sabotage you or mock your work if they don't know it's you.

Uzu-sensei nods and gives a quick run-down of ideas for starting; you'll probably need to keep a steady schedule, and of course you'll need things to actually report ON. You can start slow with general hero news or analyses, or you could hold off until you have something actually major... but of course, there's no guarantee of when you would find something like that.

Might as well trigger the slime attack and be done with it.

Also why the hell are we talking aout the gen ed department when UA literally has a Department of Management. AKA the department which probably has the best links to all the Hero Agency management teams? Where all the aspiring hero managers and agents are going to? If we're going down the information broker route then this is where we need to be.

You already threw off the timing by choosing to stay at school rather than go home, so slime villain attack is a no-go.

>go home and be a family boy

Uzu-sensei has other (unimportant) things to be getting on with, and you have a whole new future to process, so the session winds down to goodbyes and a promise to look into how to get started.

It's still not dark out, but you head down and out, collecting your somewhat-dryer notebook on the way, and head home. Your normal route is slightly-delayed by the crime scene tape blocking the small bridge you usually walk under, several police still present at the obvious crime scene - you COULD just walk the slightly longer way home, but as a hero nerd, you can't help but be a little interested in what happened here.

[ ] No time for that! Get home!

Damn I wonder how Deku and Kacchan's relationship will butterfly now that the whole slime thing hasn't happened (assuming we make it into UA). Also looks like Mirio is getting One for All.

Gathering your courage, you empower it with the strength of NERDERY, and scuttle towards the closet officer on the scene. He looks bored, just standing around outside the tape to deter any lookie-loos (like you), and eyes you warily as you approach.

"Excuse me, officer," you begin, knowing that a polite and apologetic tone is less likely to get you dismissed or ignored (although the fact that he doesn't know you're quirkless should help). "This is my way home - did something happen?"

No, this is a fairly standard roll, the officer isn't going to trip over and accidentally put a bullet through you. Probably.

OR IS HE?

>5, average

The officer gives you the standard spiel, obviously in possession of zero fucks. "There was a villain incident here about thirty minutes ago, but we'll have the scene cleared up shortly. It's probably best if you take a different route, unless you want to wait another twenty minutes or so."

"That fast?" Well, there are enough villain incidents that investigating and cleaning up crime scenes has got pretty speedy, especially if a hero was on the scene. Still, this doesn't sound like a particularly serious one. Maybe a mugging?

Looking over his shoulder to where a couple more police are talking about something, the officer leans down over to you, voice lowering but excited. "You'll probably see on the news later, but All Might himself apprehended the villain here! They jumped some poor woman, and she's in hospital right no-"

"Is this a private conversation, Oogawa?" The bland voice breaks through your rising excitement (All Might! Here?! And you missed him?!) as both yours and the officer's attention snaps to the trench-coated man who was previously further back under the bridge. He looks distinctly unimpressed.

"Detective!" Oogawa, meanwhile, just looks flustered. "I was just telling the kid why he can't go this way..."

The detective arches an eyebrow, still expressionless. "How professional of you." He flips the notebook he'd holding closed, glancing over in your direction. "Is that everything you needed, kid?"

"Actually," you almost surprise yourself by speaking up, but this might be the only convenient time you get to ask, "how exactly do you cuff a villain? There's got to be some quirks that make escaping cuffs a breeze, so how do you cope with that?"

The detective looks vaguely bemused at the unexpected question. "Well, for particularly dangerous villains, or escape-risks, we usually use special cuffs that suppress the quirk factor - or if we don't have those to hand, normal cuffs and an injection of quirk suppressant will do. It's pretty much the same thing, really. A lot of the time, fighting a hero has left them exhausted or too injured to try to escape." He gives you a quick once-over, well the other officer tries to look professional and not get in more trouble. "Are you looking to be an officer then? Or a hero?"

You try for a casual shrug, as though your status isn't a big deal. "I'm quirkless, so that's probably not really possible. I was just curious," you continue, hoping to grab their attention before they can react. "You don't hear much about the 'after' of villain fights."

"All most people want to see are the flashy fights," the detective agrees, almost absent-mindedly. "You know, it's perfectly possible to join the police force without a quirk, even if being a hero is out of the question."

Oh, look. Another person who thinks a quirk is necessary. You're not even surprised, but now it brings a tinge of bitterness instead of the usual, determined 'I can do it!' sensation.

Even with the police, you know what he isn't saying; you've read the statistics and articles. In any career, the quirkless just don't go far. You might get a desk job, or even become an officer, but you doubt you'd be allowed to become a detective like this guy. And something like a chief? A pipe dream, even if legally speaking, the police couldn't use their quirks any more than the average civilian.

You shake your head. "It's fine. I'm looking into my options. And mostly, they suck.

"I... missed All Might..."

His hands pause along your arms as desperation fades of disbelief. "That's - why you're crying?"

"I missed All Might," you whisper as the shock sets in, voice hoarse from your burning throat.

"He... still has to drop off the paperwork for this incident," the detective says, heaving a small sigh as he finally stands up, trenchcoat dripping from the puddle of tears. The officer, you vaguely notice, has already escaped. "Maybe I can get his autograph for you when he does?"

An angel. He's an angel.

Despite your best efforts, the rising, relieved glee of AUTOGRAPH AUTOGRAPH AUTOGRAPH overpowers your tear ducts once more, and the detective makes a hasty jump backwards to avoid drowning.

"Y-yes please! Thank you!"

"Are you sure you don't have a quirk, kid...?" The detective glances down to the pocket he put his notebook in, pulling it out to check. Thankfully it doesn't seem wet (unlike your own Hero notebook, thanks Kacchan). "That's - certainly impressive."

"I - I think is more because I've just realized that my future options really, really suck," you blubber, reaching up to try and rub the waterworks away. You recall mom's story of how she once defended herself from a mugger by being so terrified she nearly drowned him. Maybe she hadn't been joking...

The detective winces at your words, as best as you can see through your blurry vision. "I'm sure you have a bright future," he encourages, although seeing as he knows barely anything about you, it's not really all that comforting. "You seem like a good kid, you just need to study hard." Yeah, stay in school and don't do drugs. Maybe you'll get a quirk then!

Not.

Still, at least he isn't being a bigoted jackass, and that's more than you can say for most. You manage a tentative nod, controlling the tears down to something more resembling a normal human, while the detective draws his pen out.

"How about you give me your name and phone number or email address, and I'll let you know when the autograph's ready for you?" He smiles kindly, like you're ten instead of fifteen, but who cares? ALL MIGHT SIGNATURE.

>tendies & mountain dew in ur basement

Not waiting for the (now flooded) bridge route to open, you take the slightly longer way home, which remains tragically free of both hero fights and All Might.

Fortunately, you have the promise of an autograph to hold on to - even if it isn't as good as actually getting one in person - so you reach your apartment with a spring in your step and the All Might Little Heroes theme tune in your heart.

No matter what the critics say, that show was a masterpiece where it truly counted. In your HEART.

First step - you should really tell mom what you've decided. She'll probably drown you with relieved tears, but at least you're all cried-out yourself for now, so sympathy blubbing is hopefully unlikely. "I'm home," you call out, pressing the door shut behind you, and your mother calls back a welcome from the kitchen.

You can do this. It's just telling your mom that you've thrown your stupid dream in the trash and have now decided to reach for a still hard but much more possible one. A less dangerous one! She'll be happy!

"Mom?" Changing into house-slippers and dumping your schoolbag in the hall, you shuffle into the kitchen, where your mother is just finishing up the miso soup for tonight. "I..." You take a quick breath as she looks over her shoulder at you, curious. "I've decided I'm not going to be a hero."

>I want to go into journalism.
>(Keep it quiet for now. More able to keep your identity secret from your mother later, if you want to.)

"I- IZUKU!"

Ah, yes. Secret bloodline technique: Twin Waterfall no jutsu. You struggle to breathe as your bawling mother crushes you in her other technique; Death Hug. With this clever double activation, your only defense is to gently pat her back as you wheeze out, "M-mom... it's okay... please..."

Mom stifles a sob so she get her words out. "I - I'm just so happy! And I'm s-sorry you've h-had to make that decision, Izuku!"

"Mom, please," you croak, though she relaxes her grip a little. Death Arms would be jealous. "The guys downstairs are going to complain if we make their ceiling leak again."

"Oh, right!" Mom laughs nervously, retreating back a step, as the tears subside to a trickle. She wipes them away swiftly, almost beaming. "I just - this wasn't what I expected! But I'm glad, really - thinking of you out on the street, fighting dangerous villains..." She trails off, expression flinching for a moment before she shakes the thought away. "You're so smart, Izuku, there's a lot of other jobs you'll be wonderful at."

"I know, mom," you tell her, giving her a weak smile back. "I'm going to go online and, um, see if I can get some ideas? I spoke to the career counsellor, so..."

Unfortunately, dinner is already being prepared, but mom promises katsudon for tomorrow, still high on joy, and you grab your bag and hurry to your room,

There is the INTERNET to access and RESEARCH to do.

While you switch into your non-creepy and perfectly normal analysis mode, you consider there to be several things you probably need to know. For a start, you're kind of edging towards keeping your identity secret for now at least - no reason to have anyone like your classmates sabotage you - and if it blows up in your face, at least your name won't be attached.

That means you need some kind of... technical privacy? Cyber-security stuff? You don't know much about it, but now you've got a reason to do so, it's full-steam ahead. No point posting if everyone'll know it's you.

Next is actual methods of investigation. How do investigative reporters find their stories? Their contacts? What are the legal limits they can go up to? What equipment and tools do they use?

As for journalism itself, you feel like you've got a pretty good handle on writing the information side of things, but articles aren't just bullet-pointed lists of the necessary information. You also need to get it across to the average member of the public in a clear and interesting way. More research there, too?

Humming thoughtfully as you briefly consider whether it would be possible to access the Hero Network (not that you WOULD, because that would be totally illegal for a non-registered Hero, you'd never consider that, nope, not at all), you get ready for a long trawl through the terrifying depths of the internet.

By the time mom calls you down to dinner, you think you've made a decent start - by the time you go to bed, you've made a better one. You weren't entirely sure where to begin, the whole subject being so different from your usual online jaunts, but you're getting better.

You've done some research on computer security and VPNs, downloading a few things you verified, and while you're nowhere near calling your computer secure (especially now you know how easy things are to trace and hack - you stuck a sticky-note over your camera, because yuck), you at least feel like you're making progress.

You kind of want to learn a little hacking now, though. To better defend against it, obviously! And maybe corrupt heroes would store incriminating things on their electronics... although that would be illegal to do, of course. You would never hack like that. Except for a good reason. Or if you were really curious.

The investigative side of things goes a little better; you download a few copies of various books on the subject, including one by a now-retired journalist who broke several major hero scandals about a decade ago. His familiarity with investigating heroes rather politicians or companies should be useful, not to mention all the other journalism books you grabbed. And yes, they were pirated, but you're on a budget - maybe you'll buy official copies when you're actually making money of your own.

See? You're not a criminal who pirates books and wants to hack people's computers. You're just being practical!

With your To Read list now packed, and the promise of an All Might signature soon to come, you turn to bed and the promise of a new day filled with jerks and explosions...

The next day, you leave your latest heroics notebook on your desk, ready to be rewritten when you have the time, and get ready for school. As much as you'd love to just take the whole day to get properly started on research, you'll need to keep your grades up - while you may not be aiming for the Heroics course any more, U.A. is still a must for you. The Management course seems like a more interesting idea than Gen Ed too, putting you firmly behind the scenes of the heroics world.

Mom seems happy still as she passes over your lunch and waves you off. A decade of worry almost wiped out overnight would do that, you suppose. Now you only have to contend with Kacchan and his lackeys. On the bright side, you're more than willing to admit you've changed your plans, which... might get them off your back? Maybe?

It's going to happen sooner than you'd like; you reach Aldera Middle school right on time for you (early for everyone else), armed with your normal school supplies and a phone loaded with PDFs to read as you make your way to the classroom. For all that Kacchan looks (and acts) like a delinquent, he's top of the class and always punctual - you open the classroom door, courage draining slowly out, only to spot his spikey hair almost immediately, scowl growing wider as he spots you in turn.

Your homeroom teacher and most of the class aren't here yet; the few students that are, are paying no attention to you.

Averting your eyes from Disaster Blond, you grip your backpack tighter and walk at a totally normal, not-scurrying pace over to your seat.

Still resolutely ignoring Kacchan, you pull out your pencil case (an All Might one, naturally) and then keep your head ducked as you pull out your phone, opening the copy of 'Cybersecurity Fundamentals'.

A sneaked peek at Kacchan shows you've not been deemed important enough to attract his attention for now - he's busy insulting his so-called 'friends' for the low scores they got on the last test.

Honestly, why they're still hanging around him when all he does is use them or look down on them, you don't know.

The realization hits you like a Detroit Smash to the face.

Why Kacchan's such a jerk to everyone, to his friends, to you. Why he's loud, rude, aggressive, has the drive to be the best, cares so much what everyone thinks of him even as he pretends that he doesn't. Your eyes widen as it becomes clear.

Kacchan... is a tsundere.

It all makes sense now.

You remember your younger days - Kacchan's bright, awed smile as the pair of you watched All Might or other heroes rescue civilians or fight villains on TV - that one time he stopped to pet a dog when you were walking to school, and then insisted he was just pulling a pinecone from its fur. Kacchan is a kind boy who wants to be a hero to save people, but of course he'd be embarrassed to admit that - he needs to save face, to brashly insist that he just wants to be the strongest because he's the best.

You almost tremble with the shock of it all, hands gripping your phone tight. Of course Kacchan is a jerk to his friends! Even more of a jerk than he is to everyone else, because his friends know what he's really like! They, too, know that Kacchan is a raging tsundere, lashing out from embarrassment over his own fluffly, marshmallow center.

Yes. This is all so obvious now. How could you not see it before? You're ashamed to have your analysis skills fail you like this - all this time, Kacchan has been trying to hide the fact he still wants to be your friend - because why else would he still pay so much attention to you? - but his natural shyness makes him act out instead.

Bravely, you hold back the tears of joys - your friend! He's still your best friend! - and glance back up at Kacchan with watery eyes. He twitches, then glares over at you.

'I support you, Kacchan,' you mouth at him.

His brows furrow. "What the FU-"

"All right, everyone, settle down," sensei drones as he barges in, the rest of the now-present class stopping their chats and sitting straight.

The second the bell rings, your bag has already been packed and you're up, out and gone. You need to eat quickly! The sooner you've finished, the sooner you can get started on your homework, and the sooner your homework's done, the more you can study for your new future!

A faint bloom of hope pushes you onwards as you pause on the way to the cafeteria, and instead turn down the corridor leading to the roof stairwell. You feel like being outside today, under the sky, fresh air and with the ruckus of school muffled to almost nothing.

Okay, you're not really meant to be up here, teeeechnically... but if the door's never locked, is it really off-limits?

Don't answer that.

Humming an upbeat tune (the theme to Nightly Hero News), you select a clean spot on the roof, warmed by the sun, and settle down to pull out your bento box.

Aww, mom cut your mini hot-dogs into octopi again. Cute.

You have a mouth full of rice, glancing through the homework so far today, when the rooftop door crashes open, slamming back into the wall, as a thug - no, wait, that's Kacchan - strides out, eyes baleful, lips pulled back in a snarl, hands fisted in his pockets.

His eyes latch onto yours, darkening further. "DEKU!"

Your heart almost leaps in joy as you realize Kacchan's making another attempt to socialize with you, and you quickly swallow the rice.

>CRY and offer food

Oh. Oh no. The tears. You can feel them coming.

Trying to suppress them, you call, "Did you bring your lunch? Let's eat together!" The happy grin might quiver a little as you try to push down the bone-rattling sob that nearly lurches out of you (a friend! YOUR friend!), but you manage to stay strong.

For friendship.

"HAAAAAA?!" Kacchan storms forwards, and you admire the sheer intensity he can bring forth. No doubt it'll play well on camera in future. "The hell are you talking about, shitty Deku? Like I'd wanna eat with YOU?!"

You mentally translate the last part to, 'L-like I'd wanna eat with you! Baka!', possibly with an added blush. Kacchan, it's okay for boys to be kind! Let your inner squishiness show!

Still, he's approaching! That means he isn't rejecting your offer! Smile widening, you lift up one of your octo-dogs between your chopsticks. "If you didn't bring your own, we can share! Mom always makes too much."

Kacchan's eyes narrow, but his face flushes - you'd used to think that was anger, but now you sympathetically realize it's simply a blush of embarrassment as he tries to hold the tsun in place of the dere.

It's amazing how obvious everything is now, as if your abandonment of a hero career was caused by some sort of mental break that's opened you up to the truth of the universe. The truth being that you're going to gently and affectionately dropkick your way through Kacchan's walls and help him admit that you're BFFs.

While you happily consider this bright future, Kacchan snarls, one fist emerging from his pocket, knuckles white and a few sparks cracking from inside. "Screw your stupid meal. What was that earlier, huh? You 'supporting' me? The shit does that mean?"

>It means I support you, Kacchan, what else would it mean?

I'm going to honest here, I was not expecting you to enjoy the Tsundelusion-critfail so much. Are you guys okay? Do you need help?

>uwu kacchan bestie

Your heart spins through a series of answers, fuelled by HOPE and LOVE and SMALL, CARVED HOT DOGS. You're so glad to have a friend like Kacchan, but the fact he feels the need to hide his feelings, to lock them away in the face of society's disapproval... you can't accept that. You won't! He's stronger than that, better than that, and one day you'll help him see it!

But for now, you won't force it. Gently does it. For now, you'll just be the best friend you can be. You beam up at him, at peace under a warm sky with your best friend. "It means I support you, Kacchan, what else would it mean? I'm just really glad we're friends!"

Perhaps it's too much at once, especially out of the blue like this. Kacchan's fragile emotional walls must have been struck a heavy blow, because he almost spasms, body tensing hard and a solid BANG erupting from the hand outside of his pants.

"WE'RE NOT FUCKING FRIENDS," he bellows, body juddering with the emotional upheaval he's undergoing. Poor Kacchan, denying his feelings like that, for so long.

"If course not, Kacchan," you soothe, popping octo-doggy in your mouth and swallowing. "We're BEST friends."

This time as he wordlessly screeches in touched delight at your words, you realize your error as he lets off explosions not just with his free hand, but the one still in his pocket.

Against his leg.

"SHIT FUCK SHIT-"

"Don't worry, Kacchan, I'll get help!"

You mentally add first-aid to your To Learn list, as Kacchan hits the ground, smelling like burned flesh and caramel, and making a furious, high-pitched noise of pain.

"It's okay! It's okay!" The remains of your bento are knocked aside as you lunge to your feet, panic driving you. Oh God, oh crap, what do you do? What do you do?!

THE NURSE'S OFFICE

You have to get Kacchan. To. The nurse's office.

Yes.

"DON'T DIE, KACCHAN," you encourage, charging forth towards the delicate victim in distress. "I'LL SAVE YOU!"

"FUCK YOU DEKU I'M NOT DYING FUCK SHIT FUCK," says Kacchan, clearly emotionally overwrought by the whole situation. You sympathize, as a true friend does.

In any case, you half drop to your knees by his side, and perform a move you've seen a million times on the news and hero shows - slinging the injured civilian over your shoulder in a fireman's carry. Admittedly, this one's a little more... wiggly, and... shouty than most. but at least he's not sweating enough to lose control and explode your back as he screeches.

Your heart swells a little. You are being A HERO. All Might would be so proud!

"You'll be okay, Kacchan!" The door is still open from where Kacchan tsun-d it open, and despite his bulk, Kacchan feels light as a feather as you charge through. "We'll get you help right awAWK!"

At the top of the stairs, in your desperate run, Kacchan's flailing unbalancing you, your foot slips and one hand releases Kacchan to grab for the rail. Kacchan himself writhes to escape your grasp and lurches forwards at the sudden stop, towards the stairs ahead of you.

Time slows.

Kacchan flies.

You watch his eyes widen as if in a daze, your best friend's mouth opening to shout something, but all you can hear is the sudden chorus repeating in your head.

I FUCKED UP. I FUCKED UP. I FUCKED UP. I FUCKED UP.

Kacchan hits the ground at the bottom of the stairs with a slam you only distantly hear, rolls a few times, and then lies, face-down, unmoving.

I FUCKED UP. SO BAD.

Vaguely, you watch another pair of students step into sight on the floor below, gawking down at Kacchan, before they look up the stairs at you.

"Holy shit," one says, staring in something between disbelief and awe.

The other turns to face the way they came, and screams, "GUYS! MIDORIYA JUST SNAPPED AND MURDERED BAKUGOU!"

And you know it's gonna be a real bad day.

Focus. Focus!

Those guys aren't important - you need to help Kacchan! He's - he'll be okay. You're sure of it. Kacchan's strong, but - you need to check he's still - still -

You feel the tears emerging as you yell Kacchan's name, throwing yourself down the stairs (in a fast, running sort of way, not the... dead-Kacchan way) as the other students scream something about killing witnesses, and run away.

You ignore them in favor of dropping to your knees by Kacchan, hands hovering uselessly over him as you try to think. You shouldn't try to move people if they might have spinal injuries, right? Except if he doesn't, then - recovery position? But you need to check if his heart's beating first!

Yes. THE HEART. KACCHAN'S FRAGILE HEART.

You know what must be done.

You reach under your best friend, heaving slightly to flip him over, his body limp and unwieldy, and slam your ear down against his chest. The heart is sort of... about here, right? Kacchan isn't one of those people born with the organs on the wrong side, is he? WHAT IF HE IS?! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THIS?!

You can't hear his heartbeat.

You bite your lip, hold your breath, keep yourself quiet as possible, but still... you hear nothing but yells and running from further down the corridor.

Kacchan...

You let out a choked sob as you feel your head rise with his chest. He's... gone. You've killed him. Your best friend. You, a useless dek- wait.

Rising chest?

Slowly, you lift your head and turn it to look down at the very much breathing chest.

Ah, yes. That's a bit more obvious than checking a heartbeat. Huh.

You turn your head further to look at Kacchan's face - and his eyes slowly blinking open, dazed and tired-looking.

"Kacchan," you breathe. "You're still alive."

His eyes snap open wide now, fixing on you with sudden clarity. "D-deku?" He almost sounds scared, which you totally understand. He's been through a lot, the poor guy.

You smile reassuringly at Kacchan, as wide as you can, like a hero would, resting one hand over his heart. "Don't worry, Kacchan," you say, relieved by the sounds of someone calling for an ambulance. Soon, there'll be paramedics, and medical help, and medication galore. "There won't be any pain, soon. just a little longer, and it'll all go away."

"Jesus fuck," whispers Kacchan, eyes blown wide and face pale. You can't imagine what he must be feeling right now, the pain and terror and confusion.

Holy shit I just read the results of our critfail to understand Bakugo and this has been a hilarious ride. I have no idea what the long term repercussions will be for this though. Will we really get hit with an attempted murder charge? And the absolute shock of that combine with Bakugo condemning us as a bad guy while we finally see the truth of his character? Or will it all blow over as an accident and misunderstanding that Kachan demands we never speak of again as he tries to convince himself he definitely wasn't scared of us for a second there, while we continue to misinterpret his actions as those of a tsundere?
>>

Hoping for this path. Bakugou at this point has some weird thing we're kindness = pity = bad so it'll be interesting to see how he takes this.

Honestly I don't think his pride will let him be scared of Deku for long. I think this might have ended any more exploding journal incidents though
>>
Congrats guys, this quest kept me awake for so long, I ended up sleeping through a no-knock police raid on my apartment. I'm proud.

>creep your bff out further

You frown slightly at the still-noisy students and teachers. None of them have approached yet, keeping their distance far, far back along the corridor or in the classrooms, but all their yelling and slamming tables up against the doors can't be helping Kacchan's nerves.

He just doesn't need the added stress!

"Everyone's being really loud, sorry," you apologize, looking Kacchan deep in his eyes and trying for a rueful smile. "Shall I make them quiet, Kacchan?"

Clearly you should have done it earlier - Kacchan starts hyperventilating, hands letting off tiny bangs and crackles as he shudders, almost pushing himself back, away from you, in his spasms. Concerned, you naturally follow immediately.

"Stay - back," he gasps, between half-breaths. "G- get away from me!"

It almost brings a tear (or several thousand) to your eye that even now, Kacchan's worried his accidental explosions are going to hurt you. It's true that he IS sweating rather a lot. "You won't hurt me, Kacchan," you soothe, still following as he scrabbles back against the tiled floor, pushing his injured body faster than you'd thought possible. "I'm not going anywhere."

"No - no - no," he whispers, fainter than you've ever heard him speak, eyes glazing over as he hits the wall behind him, fingers clawing at it for a moment - and then his eyes roll up into his head, body giving a shark judder, before he slumps back down, half-leaning against the wall.

"Kacchan," you whisper, crawling almost up to you, hand reaching out to check the pulse on his neck...

And the police turn the corner a moment later, hands on the guns at their hips, ready to draw. "Stay there! Put your hands in the air! Don't use your quirk!"

... You know, from a certain angle, this whole thing looks kinda bad.

You slowly, carefully raise your hands.

The good news is that as you find yourself sat in a police interview room twenty minutes later, you at least don't have any bullet holes when the pair of officers sit across from you, and your assigned lawyer at your side.

"You're allowed to decide, Midoriya," one officer says, sounding oddly bored. "Do you want to wait for your mother to arrive, or shall we proceed now?"

Keeping your mouth shut and your eyes only slightly damp, you look to your lawyer. That's what he's paid for, isn't he?

"We can get the basics out of the way," the man allows, which... isn't quite what you thought he'd say? But then you had no idea what he'd say anyway, and he's the trained professional here, so...

You nod in awkward agreement.

"All right, then," the officer says, before running through a quick spiel for the recorder, and confirming your identity. "Now, Midoriya, could you describe your relationship with Bakugou Katsuki?"

>Kacchan's my best friend!

You grin wide, glad you can easily answer this low-ball question. "Kacchan's my best friend! Ever since we were little kids!"

The two police share a glance, expressions blank, then look back, one scribbling down some kind of note. "Understood. Now, today, you went to eat your lunch on the school roof during lunch break, yes?"

You nod vigorously, then confirm out loud once prompted.

"And approximately ten minutes later, Bakugou also went up to the roof. In your own words, Midoriya, what exactly happened up there?"

The man's eyes narrow, watching you intently.

Another quick peek at your lawyer shows... nothing much. He gives you a quick shrug, reaching up to adjust his collar, and that's all.

Huh. Well, if he's all right with it...

You clasp your hands, trying not to mutter as you get it straight in your head - just think of it as practice for when you're writing an article! - and explain as succinctly as possible.

"I told him I'd support his dream of being the #1 hero, and he freaked out and used his explosions on himself; then *I* freaked out and tried to get him to the nurse....and then we tripped on the stairs.

"I think he might have been stressed out by the high school application process," you hastily add, "he normally has way better control over his quirk... I was really surprised. But I guess telling him I supported him might have been poking a little too close..." you finish, voice quietening as you consider why he reacted so strongly.

The officer leans in, prompting. "How so?"

"Well, Kacchan's kind of a tsundere," you admit, grudgingly - but these are police, not classmates, so them knowing isn't going to hurt. "He gets a little flustered when people are nice to him, because he wants them to think of him as strong! Not that he isn't! It's just..." You pause, smiling a little as you remember your childhood together, sharing ice-cream and playing hero. "People don't realize how kind and sensitive he is, too."

Glancing up to the police officers, you can't help but feel they seem a little more relaxed, the hint of a smile on one's face.

The lawyer blowing his nose next to you makes you look at him in turn - he's trembling faintly as he puts the handkerchief away, eyes shimmering. "What a beautiful friendship..." he whispers, looking at you with those eyes burgeoning with tears (a sensation you're all too familiar with). "So even a quirkless can feel like that..."

You eyes narrow. "What?"

Once more though, an interruption comes, as the door presses easily open, and bland Detective Trenchcoat appears, an apologetic smile on his face. "That's enough of that, I think," he says, agreeably. "Midoriya's answers have checked out."

You don't even how Kacchan is! And your lawyer is an asshole!

You burst into firehose tears.

"STOP THE QUIRK, STOP THE QUIRK," one of the officers yells, panicked, as a jet of water slams your quirkist lawyer into the wall, and the detective lunges towards you, avoiding the worst of the deluge.

"It's not a quirk," he explains, hurried as he grabs at you and pulls you up. "Midoriya, come on, stop crying please - oh no, I'm going to have to dry-clean these again - it's okay, Midoriya, please stop -" He pats you on the back as the others escape into the hall, which almost makes you cry harder.

The detective is s-so nice!

Kacchan... you need to find out what happened to him. The last you saw, he was being loaded onto an ambulance, unconscious. Did he suffer some kind of head injury? Pass out from the pain? Go into shock?

"How's K-Kacchan?" You manage the gasp the words out as the tears subside into something more human-scale, the detective adjusting his stance to try and keep his shoes out of the puddle. It doesn't work very well.

"Bakugou is still in hospital, but the doctors say he should be fine," the detective says, still patting your back. "He'll probably stay overnight, but they've got plenty of professionals and healing quirks there, so no need to worry."

Your whole body seems to sag with relief. "I'm so glad... I r-really thought he was..."

"There's no point worrying about might-have-beens," he says, his smile something between comforting and relieved that the room is no longer in danger of flooding. "Honestly, when I heard your name mentioned as having been brought in for interrogation... you're lucky I was here and decided to listen in. Depending on what Bakugou remembers when he wakes up, this could have have turned out really bad for you."

You duck your head, dread forming as you wonder what mom must have heard, what she must think, to have to leave work and come to the police station of all places. "Detective, I really need to call my mom. I need to let her know everything's okay!"

"It's all right, Midoriya, I'll explain it to her when she gets he-"

"Mom, I'm okay!" Your tears dry to nothing, relieved by her voice. "Everything's fine, don't worry. Kacchan's going to be fine, and the police cleared me!"

Her relieved wail resounds down the line and through the interrogation room, the detective swaying back slightly at the volume. Your mother's lungs are almost as powerful as her tear-ducts.

"I was so worried, baby!"

"It's okay though, I think I'm being released now - I am, aren't I?"

The detective nods, wringing his coat out. "Yes, but please don't cry any more. I might have to call Eraserhead to stop it." He mutters the last part, from which your mind focuses on the hero name before bypassing it in favor of reassuring your mother.

"We'll still need to sort everything out with your school," the detective adds. "Until I can explain the situation to them, they might not take things the right way - at the very least, I'm sure you'll be having the rest of the day off, and probably tomorrow."

You nod, hearing your mother agree over the speaker; even Aldera school probably frowns on attempted murder. Unless YOU were the target, maybe.

At least your mother agrees to slow down, though she's still coming to the station to collect you, and you're left standing in a puddle with the detective.

Still unconscious? Anxiety twists at your stomach, but he's in the best place he can be; maybe mom can talk to Auntie Mitsuko and let you visit soon?

"Let's get you out of here for now," the detective says, leading you out in the hall, when a beep from his phone interrupts. He checks in quickly, pauses, and then smiles wider.

"My desk is over here - you can wait with me, I'm sure both Yagi and your mother will be here soon."

You nod frantically, sitting ramrod straight on the chair opposite his.

>Yes

Then we realize being a hero is gay, and do cool centrist shit! We have to build up to the fall
>>

>But there's a difference between being a hero and being "A Hero", and you're not sure you want to be the second anymore.

>No

A hero is a hero no matter what the form, and though you've finally admitted you'll never be A Hero like All Might you don't want to give up on that drea-I mean goal. You don't want to give up on this new goal you've set yourself.
>>
>>4483659
It's sort of complicated. But if it's possible to do something despite our lack of powers, it's something to consider. So I'm going with
>No
for now. We don't have to rule out hero path immediately this early at least.
>>
>logic

You - can't throw your dream of being a hero away quite so easily. You've tried, but it's hard to let go of something over a decade in the making. Sure, you may not have a quirk, you'll never be punching a villain through a wall, but...

You duck your head, frowning.

"I - want to fight villains, but I can't," you admit, half to the detective, half to yourself. "Maybe if I can figure out how to catch them, I'm still able to be a 'hero', even if I'm not 'a pro hero'. I guess it's sort of complicated?"

"No, it makes sense to me." The detective's voice is calmer, maybe a little sympathetic. "For every villain in the street that gets beaten down, there's plenty more regular criminals that don't attract the attention of most heroes. Patient, competent investigation may not be flashy or glamorous, but it puts away the kind of problems that can't be solved with a straight-up fight."

What follows is fifteen minutes of an experienced detective's methods of investigation distilled for an intelligent fifteen year old; the ways that the police track people down, or investigate them once found; some recommendations for books you hadn't heard of; the types of crimes that small or large-scale villains tend to gravitate towards, and how they organize themselves.

Your fingers have stopped itching for a notebook and your mind is focused on memorizing everything, when someone approaches the detective's desk, unlike the other police just walking past.

"Oh - Yagi!" The detective breaks off his explanation about quirk trafficking rings, smiling at the man.

The newcomer looks... not great, despite the bright smile he gives the pair of you, one hand waving, the other clutching a thin folder. Even the clothes he's wearing are a few sizes too big - a sudden illness that caused serious weight-loss? This can't be All Might's secretary, surely; a guy like that would have access to the best medical care, let alone enough money to pay for new clothes.

"Tsukauchi," the frail man greets him, holding up the folder as he pauses by you. "I have All Might's report here - is this...?" He smiles down at you, and you can't help but feel oddly warmed by it, like a familiar meal or your mother's hug. As creepy as he looks, the smile makes you feel like everything's all right in the world.

"This is Midoriya Izuku," Tsukauchi (so that's his name!) confirms, eyeing you. "He wasn't meant to be here, but there was... a bit of an incident."

Yagi looks back at you, curious.

Ya see, Overhaul did the right thing the wrong way for the wrong reasons. In the show it's explained that quirks are getting more powerful, complex, and difficult to control with each passing generation. Eventually there will be a need for permanent quirk-negation or quirk-devolving medicine. So while there would be a real need for it, he wasn't concerned with that and instead was planning on selling it illegally for profit.

>dint do nuffink, guv

You smile brightly at Yagi-san, sketching a quick but polite bow. "It's okay, they've already confirmed it wasn't attempted murder!"

"Uh," says Yagi. "That's. That's good? I think?" He turns sunken eyes on Tsukauchi, a little desperately, who just pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs.

"Yes, it's good. Midoriya's just a little... untrained with words for now. It's been a stressful day for him."

Darn right! You can't believe it took this long to realize Kacchan was a tsundere, even with his bright blond hair being a blatant clue. You're definitely going to need to work on your perception and deductive reasoning.

Yagi-san is blond too...

"Today was kind of weird," you admit, reaching up to rub the back of your head. "But I'm sure the school will get it all sorted out soon. As soon as Kacchan gets out of hospital, anyway."

"Well, okay then," Yagi says slowly, eyeing you slightly, before he shakes his head and passes the folder over to Tsukauchi. "The autograph is in there as well; I - he did a personalized one, young Midoriya, I hope that's all right?"

All right? That's more than all right! It's for you, obviously, you're not going to sell it on eBay. In fact, this is going to be framed and hung on your wall. Maybe with some incense lit underneath it.

"That's great!" You may be quivering with anticipation, eyes latched on to the folder as Tsukauchi opens it, but that's your business and yours alone.

ALL MIGHT. AUTOGRAPH.

"Mirdoriya..." the detective says, with a small sigh. "You're drooling."

Hastily wiping your mouth, you bounce a little on your heels, shooting him an apologetic look. Yagi, meanwhile, just laughs.

"Big All Might fan, huh?"

Stay cool, Izuku. Everyone knows All Might is The Best, and yeah, his secretary's delivering an autograph, so he knows you're a fan - but he doesn't need to know just HOW much of one.

"I mean, I guess," you say, glancing casually away. "I just think getting his autograph would be kind of, um, okay. Ish. It's the sort of thing somone would just like to have, you kn-"

"Here," Tsukauchi butts in, passing the signed photograph over to you.

"OH MY GOD IT'S REAL," you calmly say, lunging forwards to grab the corners with both hands. You can't touch it too much, what if you leave fingerprints? "IT'S HERE, I HAVE IT, OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE -"

You blurrily see Yagi leaning towards the detective. "I thought you said he didn't have a quirk?"

""I don't see how he doesn't, but apparently his eyes just work like that," Tsukauchi sighs, currently moving various paperwork away from the jet streams as you wail excitedly, reading the dedication on it. "Honestly, I think he needs a re-test."

"I-it's n-not a quiiiiirk," you sob. Fortunately, you've cried so damn much today that the tears end fairly quickly, and you swipe the remainder away with your sleeves, careful not to wet the photograph.

"Right, of course," Yagi soothes, while the detective's attention turns towards the report. "So, young Midoriya! I hear you have an interest in law enforcement?"

>i'm an investigator

"Um, if you mean my first conversation with Tsukauchi-san, I'm more interested in the investigative side of things, really." How close is the detective to this guy, if he even tells him what you spoke about yesterday? How does a random detective get to be friends with All Might's secretary?! This is so weird. Cool for him, but weird.

Yagi nods assuredly. "The investigation beforehand is just as important as the takedown. I'm sure Tsukauchi here could go on for hours about that - even though he cheats."

The detective chokes on air, sitting up straight and glaring at his traitorous friend. "That's a lie, and you know it! I'm a fully-qualified detective, Toshinori - don't listen to him, Midoriya, he's just being obnoxious."

"Well, your quirk is perfectly suited for it," Yagi comments, far too innocently. "In any case, I should think a, ah, lack of quirk wouldn't be any bar to an investigative role in police-work."

You try not to shuffle. "It's nothing against the police, but - I always wanted to be a hero, but because I don't have a quirk... I know it's being picky, but most crimes are just..." You can't think of how to phrase it politely.

"Not interesting enough?" The detective at least sounds amused. "It's true that most crime and disturbances are the sort that you spend time dealing with the paperwork than the people involved. It's often not pretty, either."

"Not that hero work usually is," Yagi adds.

"But you want to investigate villains rather than regular criminals?"

"I want to look into the things most won't see," you clarify, before adding, "or want to see." Your backpack is still being held somewhere, but you carefully place the autograph on Tsukauchi's desk so you don't end up crinkling it. "I think there's too much that gets covered up, or just doesn't get the attention it deserves because it's... well, not flashy, like a heroic fight."

"Things like that usually get ignored for a reason." Yagi pulls out a nearby seat and half-slumps down in it; the guy is freakishly tall, even like that. A mutation quirk, or just genetics? "If you try to draw attention to things people don't want to, you'll likely end up disappointed, my boy."

You shrug. "Maybe, but I won't know unless I try, right?"

Yagi opens his mouth to answer, but your attention is caught by someone calling your name across the busy din of the office area. Mom has finally arrived, dry-eyed but hurtling herself around the desks (thankfully not over them) at the speed of Ingenium. "Izuku, are you all right?"

>I'm better than all right, I'm All MIGHT! (hold up the autograph like a dorky moron)

You beam like sunshine and puppies and daisies. "I'm better than all right, I'm All MIGHT!" Now held proudly in your hands is the autograph that you raise in your mother's direction, ignoring the detective's groan and Yagi's choked laugh.

"Oh, Izuku! That's wonderful!" She looks rightly impressed as she gets close enough to see what it is, before giving an overly-polite bow to the detective, who rises to bow back. "Thank you for watching my son, Detective...?"

"Tsukauchi. And Midoriya's been no trouble at all - except maybe for the tears."

"Ah - those." Mom looks vaguely embarrassed, "I'm sorry, all my family are just... like that. Was there any damage done?"

"None at all," Tsukauchi says, which is generous considering his coat is still damp, and the force of your tears slammed your lawyer into the wall. In your defense, he probably deserved it. "And this is Yagi Toshinori, who brought the autograph for Midoriya - he's somewhat acquainted with All Might."

"Only in a professional capacity," Yagi hastens to add, as if worried he's going to be mistaken for All Might's best friend, much like Kacchan pretends not to like it when you call him your best fri-

Wait.

Is... Yagi also a tsundere, and he's actually All Might's best friend? He IS blond... but All Might is also blond... how would that work...?

While you eye the frail man, brain examining the problem from every angle, your mother interrogates Tsukauchi for every detail that she can get; apparently the school was less than forthcoming, and you may or may not be being touted as a homicidal maniac who tried to murder your entire class.

This is probably not going to reflect well in high school admissions.

The good news is that you've been officially cleared, and the school has no legal way to expel you unless they pull something particularly underhanded; it might be good to keep your grades up and your nose clean for the next while, just in case.

While mom and Tsukauchi discuss boring things like Whether You're Going To Be Thrown Into Prison Forever, you eye Yagi-san, who's happily checking his phone. Maybe he's looking at work emails... from ALL MIGHT.

With whom he apparently has personal conversations.

You gnaw at your lip, eyes flicking back to the other adults, before you decide to bite the bullet, and lean over towards him to whisper, "Yagi-san - are you secretly All Might's friend?"

Yagi jolts, making a sound not unlike a boiled tea-kettle. "Friend?! All Might?! Why would you - oh. Oh, yes." He coughs, maybe a tad too hard. "Yes, I can see why you'd - well, I am - perhaps... a little close to him? Mainly in a professional capacity, but we've known each other for quite a long while, so it's not, um, unusual that I'd perhaps know him socially. A bit. Casually."

Your eyes are wide. "How long have you known him, Yagi-san?"

You've confirmed it. It's too obvious, especially with your resent research into the subject.

Yagi-san is trying to deflect attention away from his relationship with All Might.

Yagi-san has known All Might 'all his life'.

Yagi-san... is blond.

INVESTIGATION: CONCLUDED.

Face setting in determination, you steel yourself and look the man in his sunken eyes. "Yagi san, you can't fool me. I knew you weren't All Might's friend," you say, watching with satisfaction as he pales even further, body tensing as his tsundere secrets are revealed under the light of day (or fluorescent police station lighting, anyway). "You're his BEST FRIEND."

He twitches. Hard.

"You need to be more honest about your feelings Yagi-san," you earnestly encourage, raising a hand to your heart. "There's no issue in admitting that you have a close relationship with someone, even if it's All Might himself!"

"Ah," Yagi-san gasps, as though half-choked. "That's. That's very kind of you to say, young Midoriya. However, that's drastically, ah, overestimating our, ah, relationship. Yes. Not that we have one! A relationship."

Oh, tsunderes. Will they ever learn.

Your expression softens as you gently nod. "Okay, Yagi-san. Whatever you say." Poor guy. He must be - what, forty-something? - and still unable to admit his gentler feelings, trapped behind a wall that holds people at a distance. And yet he seems so nice! You hope All Might is a proper friend to him, though you can't imagine him being anything else - but then, the hero is so busy, does he even have enough time for it?

Your heart aches a little as you imagine you and Kacchan in your middle age, the other boy still unable to open his heart. You won't let it come to that.

"It's really not like that..." Yagi-san mutters disconsolately, still in denial as he slumps.

"Do you think it's even possible for someone with a weak quirk, or no quirk, to be a hero? I mean, they probably won't ever be a *pro* hero, but there must be other ways..."

"That's a complicated question," Yagi says, switching eagerly over to a non-tsundere subject. "There's jobs I would consider 'heroic', like law enforcement, the medical field - teaching, charity work, all kinds of things. But if you mean a hero in the usual sense..."

He sighs, slumping a little. "A pro hero is a pro hero. For someone to try and fight crime without at least a provisional license... apart from exceptions like self-defense, that's simply vigilantism. And no matter what quirk they have, that's still illegal."

Even though you've set aside your dream, it still makes your whole body drop like lead to hear your hero speak like that. "So unless you have a strong enough quirk to get into a hero school and become a pro... it's impossible?"

"I wouldn't say that."

You didn't even realize mom and the detective had finished speaking, until Tsukauchi's voice breaks in.

Both you and Yagi look at him in surprise, broken out of your respective musings. "You wouldn't?"

"While I might have too much to do with All Might's paperwork," Tsukauchi says, voice dry, "I primarily work with underground heroes. There aren't a lot of them, but most of them have quirks that aren't combat-based; the same goes for a lot of support and rescue heroes. It's like you said earlier, Midoriya - the media pays attention t the flashy fights, but no-one cares about the underground hero who can change their face, or Ragdoll from the Pussycats. Just because they've got so-called 'weak' quirks doesn't make them useless. Right, Toshinori?"

Yagi coughs again at the pointed remark, holding a handkerchief up to his mouth. "Of course... of course... I didn't mean to cast aspersions..."

"And sometimes you get to be a hero by being a washing machine," Tsukauchi finishes, with a suspiciously bland smile. The four of you take a moment to revel in the constant mystery of Wash, the number 8 hero. Truly an inspiration to household appliances everywhere.

"Those are excellent points, but of course, if there's no quirk at all..." Yagi mutters, while mom's gaze switches between him and the detective like following a ping-pong ball.

"You're welcome to explain to Eraserhead how useless he is against mutation types," Tsukauchi easily answers, still smiling politely while your Kacchan-honed danger sense screams. "I'm sure he'd love to hear it."

"I'll just. Be quiet now."

Hm, maybe it's actually Tsukauchi that's Yagi's Kacchan? Or is Tsukauchi being tsun at Yagi? Is Tsukauchi tsundere at Yagi, and Yagi tsundere at All Might? This is getting complicated, and your fingers itch for a pen and notebook.

Funny you should mention him...

>jack of all trades or master of one

"SO!" Distraction time! "What you mean is that someone needs to, um, focus on a niche where their skills really fit?"

"As in anything, shore up your weaknesses, but play to your strengths," Tsukauchi advises. "You don't need to be the best at everything, but you need to be reasonably competent at anything you might have to do, just in case you can't rely on someone else."

You have no-one else to rely on in the first place, so...

"We already talked about investigating earlier, but you also need to consider whether you want to get out in person, running down leads and people, or whether you're the type who'll chase down information electronically and put it together. They're both important."

You already know you're probably going to be doing both fieldwork and deskwork, so you've probably got a lot more to learn. And if you're going to be dealing with scandal-making heroes, you'll probably need other skills besides - disguise? Acting? First aid? Physical fitness to run away with, or even combat skills if someone takes a swing at you?

These are probably the sort of things you should have been learning when you wanted to be a hero; everyone knows that UA has a practical exam as well as a written one, for the hero course.

Your strengths are your analysis skills, but you can't rely purely on them. On the other hand, they're going to perhaps be the most important weapon in your arsenal, even if you need other skills to get that information safely. You can't help but feel a burgeoning eagerness to get started. To make a difference.

Tsukauchi and Yagi seem like they want to catch up or - maybe - even do some actual work, so you and mom make a quick goodbye, mom bowing profusely yet again.

You get your things back - someone even grabbed your half-eaten bento from the roof, which is unexpected - and as an addition, the numbers for the two men. The detective and your mother will likely to have reason to speak again anyway, as the case still needs to be completely dropped, especially if the school tries to make anything of it, but your tentative request to Yagi-san gets even him awkwardly passing over a business card, with instructions to never pass it on to anyone else.

You dread to think what would happen if excitable classmates or the media got hold of the number for All Might's secretary.

He also warns that he likely won't be able to answer anything immediately - unsurprising, he must be incredibly busy - but the mere fact he said yes feels you with satisfaction. Contacts are helpful, and a well-informed, well-placed, nice guy like him will be useful in future.

\Plus, maybe you can help him with the whole tsundere thing, and help him realize It's Okay To Have Friends!

On the way home, your mother gets the full story from you, from starting school to when she arrived, relaxing more as she sees how unaffected you are. Of course you're still worried about Kacchan, though according to his mom's call to yours, he should be awake tomorrow, but right now, you feel more... validated.

You're not destined to be a deku.

With a quick meal of chicken and Oka no Ketsuro soda in you, you decide to spend the evening

>Heroes / agencies that are information based.

Most are probably underground heroes so won't have much of a Web presence but if any do have a public face we might be able to see what skills we need to invest in to emulate them.
>>
>investigative research

After making new notes on everything you learned today (you should maybe re-write book 13 as well, sometime), you head online.

If you're going to be investigating heroes and villains, then surely the best bet for now is to find out what heroes focus on investigation, and how THEY work. They'll likely focus on villains and major crime, if not other heroes - that's more Commission-based, as far as you can tell - but it's a start.

The first, most obvious is Nighteye's agency. His own quirk isn't combat-based, but is highly useful for investigative purposes; he's also intelligent, well-trained, and with resources and contacts galore. Really, you're amazed Yagi-san dismissed non-flashy quirks, considering both of their relations with All Might; but then, Nighteye and All Might haven't worked together in quite a while, so maybe he slipped Yagi's mind?

Whatever the case, you find some useful-looking interviews and articles regarding Nighteye and his sidekicks, saving them before digging deeper.

As if turns out, most heroes (the aboveground ones) don't really go for investigation. That sort of thing is mostly the preserve of underground heroes, raising your suspicion that Nighteye probably deals with quite a few of them, even if it obviously isn't made public.

Even agencies that do try to be more information-based usually close down or merge with more combat-based agencies, becoming merely an intelligence-gathering subsection. Non-combat agencies tend not to get sponsorships or merchandizing deals, or TV appearances - is it just Nighteye being All Might's sidekick that got him the boost in fame and respect to go solo? You have a horrible suspicion it is.

While support gear is often expensive, intelligence-gathering requires seems to require so much more. Not just bugs and trackers and cameras, but you skim an article describing how even just bribes to access places, or wining and dining people to loosen their tongues can add up. Not to mention all of the legalities - even a hero can't just casually break into a place or hack something without a seriously compelling reason - and then if they DON'T find something to justify it...

Some agencies end up becoming simple detective agencies that help civilians out with tracking down runaway family members or catching cheating spouses, just to make ends meet. Others mess up and go bankrupt over court cases after they record the wrong person or get caught somewhere they shouldn't be. Others with more useful quirks get quickly recruited away to high-paying positions in the police or (reading between the lines) some kind of government or military positions. Others... disappear. You suspect many of those stumbled across something too dangerous for them.
>>
>>4489095

You can see why it's mainly the underground heroes that focus on this sort of thing. They often have quirks suited for it, they usually don't care about flashy, expensive costumes, they don't expect big budgets or rewards, they stay out of the public eye and are less likely to be recognized... the only problem is that while agencies have to be publicly registered, they don't need to list their employees to the public. If you could get onto the Hero Network, you could undoubtedly find out more, but you've heard of only a couple of active local underground heroes, and you doubt they advertize how they work.

Still, most of the larger agencies DO have support heroes who focus on investigation and intelligence-gathering. You settle down for a long binge-reading session...

- Between Tsukauchi and your own research, you've increased your understanding of:
-- how the police track people down
-- the types of crimes that small or large-scale villains perform
-- how criminal/villain groups organize themselves
-- different laws that police and heroes operate under when investigating someone and their restrictions
-- different quirks that investigative-based heroes use, and how
-- what general sort of recording equipment is useful and how to place them
-- different databases across Japan, what kind of information they hold on each person, and how they're legally allowed to be accessed
-- how much damn work you're going to have to do
-- how to make contacts and retain their trust
-- the important of securing your files/personal-safety so people don't target them/you

With more additions to your To Learn list, you think you've worked out the top priorities; you've made a start at securing your computer and privacy, but you need to do more - and until you're physically skilled enough to go out and investigate, you should probably focus on just physically training while you work on your computer skill. Hacking is looking ever more useful, not least because it'll help you know what to defend against.

Sighing, you look at your noodly arms and admit that yes... it's going to be a while before you're ready to outrun a pissed-off thug or deflect a punch from a corrupt-hero if you get spotted lurking. You can't afford a gym membership, not unless you take up a time-consuming job, but

Basic physical conditioning and exercizes should do for now; most of that can be done in your room, which means it's free, safe and the weather doesn't matter. Running might be an issue, but you can hold off on that if needs be.

With night starting to fall, you decide to start making a better attempt at securing your computer with what knowledge you currently have.

>tide pod challenge

You stare blankly at the chatbox for a second, trying to process the fact that, in the process of trying to prevent someone from hacking your computer, someone JUST HACKED YOUR COMPUTER.

On the bright side, you still have a sticky note over your camera. On the other hand, you have no idea what else they have access to.

You're too caught between bewilderment and disbelief to feel... much of anything, really. So you fall back on natural teenage instincts and respond with an All Might meme, a tide pod replacing some food from some (terrible) drive he once did for healthy eating.

That basic urge fulfilled, you move further down the hierarchy of needs, and carefully type, 'Sure, strange person who's hacked my computer. Lay it on me.'

Don't freak out, Izuku. It's just watching your browsing history or whatever. This is fine.

You need to stay calm and rational. How much information can you obtain without this person refusing to answer any more? How can you seem worthy of answering, but still unthreatening enough that they drop their guard and don't take take you too seriously?

>>Why are you looking for people who are looking into hero research?

>>>There's plenty of people out there who research heroes! I just thought YOUR search history was interesting. Intelligence-based heroes, underground agencies, computer security... that's an interesting sort of focus! :^D

You frown at the response, worrying at your lower lip. It's kind of bland and dismissive, but at least you have a little better idea of exactly what attracted attention. Did something get triggered when you accessed certain pages, maybe? You move on, trying to sound full teenage-casual.

>>How do I git gud at hacking, friendly invader?

>>>Practice, practice, practice! That's an easy one!

That's... non-specific. But to be fair, it was a fairly non-specific question. Maybe something more detailed...?

>>If a hero needs something covered up, who do they turn to? What's the procedure?

>>>Oh? Getting juicy now! That depends what they want covered up and why, what contacts they have... your average local, part-timer hero doesn't have much pull, but a top-ten hero could get away with pretty much anything if it's not caught on camera. So sad! :^( Good thing that wonderful bastion of morality, the Hero Commission is around to keep everyone in check, lmao

What does that even mean? The Hero Commission investigates corrupt heroes, everyone knows that, but the hacker's comment just comes off as - sarcastic? You scowl at the raised questions, leaving it for the moment. Screw sublety.

>>I want to investigate crimes of both heroes and villains. It's just easier to expose villains' crimes than heroes'.

Okay then.

Slowly stepping away from the computer, staring at the monitor in case it jumps up and eats you, you (calmly, logically) go to plug in your phone. Then you make a note in one of your notebooks to check where all the local CCTV cameras are, because what big, numerous eyes you have, Stranger Danger-sensei.

Then you get dressed for bed, curl up under the covers, and manage not to panic-attack yourself out of some eventual rest.

The next morning dawns to a few little updates; firstly, your phone and computer seem to be working perfectly well when you crawl out of bed to check them - in fact, they actually seem faster than before.

Secondly, mom tells you over breakfast that while Kacchan has woken up (and isn't pressing charges, which is obvious - he's your best friend, after all), he's refusing to see you. His mother says he's being a tantrum-throwing brat, but for the nurses' sake, please give it a while before visiting - and as for Aldera Middle School, it's given a politely-worded request to take the day off and come back tomorrow. And also to never go up to the roof again.

Huh. You shrug, and eat your breakfast, disappointed Kacchan's being all tsun again, and refusing to let anyone see him hurt. He really needs to accept that being injured doesn't make him weak!

In any case, you have a whole, free day to do... anything, really.

>A CUNNING DISGUISE no you can't slap on a pair of fake cat ears and call it a day

You have one full day (and a couple of evenings) to prepare for this drop. Considering the mention of train fare, it's going to involve a fair bit of travel, which means going past about eleventy-billion cameras.

You need a disguise.

Steeling your nerves, you get washed and dressed, putting plans for physical training aside for later, and start plotting.

The key is to aim like we're a teenager trying to be /fa/ because that's the sort of cringy thing teenagers do. Otherwise the hat/mask/glasses combo is gonna look dodgy.

I think we're slightly too young to pull off the full homeless look, we're probably going to look like a runaway/battered teen which will grab attention. Plus we're gonna be in public for most of it if we're going on the train so hobo getup is gonna get too many looks.

In the end, putting together a disguise isn't all that hard. Digging through your wardrobe easily nets you an old pair of jeans you rarely wear, a hoodie with HOODIE written across it, and a plain baseball hat - that should keep your hair hidden even if you put the hood down.

You already have a few packets of surgical masks for when you're ill, as well, which no-one will look twice at, especially if you maybe slump and cough a little. Your eyes are fairly distinctive, but maybe you can pick up a pair of cheap sunglasses if needs be?

Amazingly, burrowing into the depths of your wardrobe only takes you a grand total of twenty minutes, leaving you the rest of the day free.

Which means physical training.

While you may not be a marathon runner, you know the basics; warm up first, and take it slow. You may have run from bullies a time or ten, but your body isn't used to a steady, sustained pace for long periods, and you need to break it in.

Every now and then, as you jog around the area, you pause to take a breath, drink some water, and make a few notes on what cameras you've seen and where. You're getting pretty good at spotting them, although you doubt you've caught all the hidden security cameras on private houses, or the doorbell cams.

Still, you're training both your body and your perception, not to mention getting a better idea of how to sneak out without getting tracked if necessary. Not that, uh, it will be. Ever. Just... theoretically.

It's kind of exhilarating, running just for yourself. Nowhere you have to get to, nothing you're running from - just the low ache in your muscles and deep breathing that tell you just how little you've pushed your body before now.

And you thought you could make it through the hero entrance exam like THIS?

It's afternoon by the time you slow to a lightly-gasping walk, needing a longer break than just for a sip of water and some note-taking. Besides, you don't want to damage your muscles.

Walking on now-aching legs, you decide to take the opportunity to scout out the small park nearby.

It's mostly vacant at this time of day; the air's a little chill, and it's a weekday, so most people are either at work or school, or tucked up inside. There's a few old folks out for exercise, a dog-walker, and a groundskeeper emptying the trashbins, but that's all.

A walk-around shows that your best bet for exercize here would be the children's play area. Tree branches might break, but the metal poles on the equipment would probably be good for pull-ups and the like. Plus, monkey-bars. Bonus: fun.

No-one will tell you off if you're not damaging them, right? Riiight? (You hope.)

There's also a few adverts on the park board; a free jogging group on the weekends for if you feel like running with other people, and a few other classes like tai chi and parkour that won't start up again until the weather warms up.

The way back home is (tragically) free of cool hero fights to watch, but once more you get a good look at the cameras along the way. It's much slower this time, already tired from the first workout, but you feel satisfied by the time you reach the apartment complex.

You still take the elevator up though, because you're pretty sure you'll die, otherwise.

Staggering indoors, you ignore the lunch mom left for you before she went to work, and go for a quick shower to get the sweat off.

Trusting your computer not to suddenly blow up in your face or start showing you porn, courtesy of Stranger Danger-sensei, you warily turn it on while setting your food down at its side. Should you eat at the computer? No. Are you going to do it anyway? Yes.

You, Midoriya Izuku, are a rebel with a cause.

For now, it's research time! Specifically, training regimens you can use with the playground and (if weather doesn't permit otherwise) at home. Maybe you should also train out in the rain, but leave it a while?

You manage to hammer out a decent training plan after crunching numbers regarding your free time, and how quickly people improve with different regimens. You... probably don't need to base your own off the one recommended for military training.

Still, you need a proper, full body workout; and while you don't want to plan too far ahead until you can analyze your progress and adjust as necessary, you plot out the next couple of weeks. That should be enough to get your body used to the horrific trauma of actually doing some work beside 'getting punched'.

By now, your legs are mostly recovered, while still achey. Mom should be home fairly soon, so it's probably best not to go out again.

There's nothing in particular you need to do on Thursday morning - just pack your completed homework, and get ready as usual.

School itself is a little... off. In a good way! Normally you'd get 'accidentally' knocked against on the way to class, or people would whisper things and sneer or giggle, but now? Sure, there's still whispering, but it includes people backing up to the wall, or even jumping into a classroom as you go past. Not a single laugh! In fact, no-one even comes close enough to slam your shoulder!

You should have had stupid rumors go around about you earlier. This is amazing.

Humming under your breath, you bounce with your newfound confidence into your classroom; early as usual, but the few who are already there shut up and pointedly try not to look at you when you arrive.

(Maybe you feel a bit of vindictive glee as they sit, awkward and ramrod straight as they try not to attract your attention. Just a teensy bit. No-one can prove it.)

The tenseness continues as the room slowly fills, but you force yourself not to slouch or duck down. It isn't YOUR fault everyone leapt to stupid conclusions, and the police have already confirmed you didn't do anything wrong. If it takes a while for the message to filter out, well, that's THEIR problem.

The homeroom teacher skulks in last of all, barely on time, almost as if he were trying to avoid the room. He certainly avoids looking at you, at least, hurrying through your name on roll call as if panicked he can't miss it out.

The complete lack of mention regarding... the incident is incredibly blatant. So is the forced tone with which everyone speaks, or the wide eyes that fix on you before you look back, forcing their heads to snap away to something innocuous.

This is actually kind of fun. Not long-term, but no-one's even tried to steal your pen yet!

Finally, the lunch bell rings, and the rest of your class stampede out like Cerberus is after them, with mutters of 'Holy shit, that was the WORST', and 'Bakugou's still in hospital, right? Not dead?'.

You try not to laugh.

Between regular medical care and any healing quirks that happened to be on-shift or volunteering their time, you know he's supposed to be out of hospital sometime today, and hopefully back to school tomorrow. Mom already told you that Mitsuki doesn't blame you in the least, and seems only mildly annoyed about the whole thing - mostly at Kacchan? You're not really sure why. Maybe she's a tsundere as well...?

In any case, you flick through to Auntie's contact number, so you can check on Kacchan without disturbing him if he's asleep. They might have had him up late for a healing session, or he might not have been able to sleep with all the hospital noise, after all.

"Izuku!" Auntie's voice is bold and cheerful down the line as soon as she picks up. "Want to know how that little punk is, huh?"

>K-Kacchan's not a punk, Auntie...

At his house? Surely you mean in his room. Under his bed. Unfortunately, you fall asleep under there due to the boring wait, and only emerge in the dead of night... Kacchan... Kaaachaaaannn...

>dismiss insults, acquire kacchan update

"Yes, please!" You can't help the wide grin that breaks out at Auntie's voice. Just knowing that everything Kacchan did wasn't real maliciousness, but simply the spiky, tsundere shell on top of his fluffy, marshmallow filling... you're still feeling the sheer relief, even now.

Auntie laughs. "He's getting out of hospital in an hour or so, we're going to go pick him up soon. Need to talk with the doctors and crap, fill out paperwork and all that. I swear, ever since he woke up, the asshole's just been sulking like a toddler! Barely even swore at the nurses! I nearly asked them to check him for brain damage, but, ha, how'd they tell any new stuff apart from the old?" She cackles, and you

You side-eye the phone, pondering if Kacchan's family environment is partly to blame for that prickly tsundere shell. You know Auntie Mitsuko isn't all that supportive of the whole 'emotional vulnerability' thing in Kacchan, even though she seems fine with you and mom crying all over the place.

Hmm.

"So, um, how are you doing?" You manage not to stutter, despite your nervousness. You DID just put Kacchan in hospital, if one considers you responsible for, uh, making him blast a hole in his leg and then tossing him down some stairs.

Which, you know, is no-one's fault, really. Honest.

Auntie laughs lightly. "Oh, I'm doing fine, kid! Quiet around here without that punk screaming and exploding all over the place - Masaru and I even went out for a nice, romantic meal! Then we had the whole house to ourselves..." She trails off with a dreamy sigh that makes you throw up a little in your mouth.

auntie plz no

"W-well, as long as you're fine!" You quickly interrupt before she can add any more details about being alone with her husband. It definitely doesn't seem like she holds a grudge or anything.

You give it your best shot. "Would I, um, be able to come with you to the hospital?"

"Sure, why not?" The answer is quick and breezy. "Come round in about thirty minutes, and we'll take you there - someone dropped off his make-up work, so you can stay for dinner, and you guys can study together if you want."

You DO want! Well, you should probably do a work-out sometime today, but homework needs to be done as well, and of COURSE you need to see Kacchan and reassure yourself he's okay.

Happily agreeing, you say your goodbyes to auntie and

The shops? The shops!

You made to make it clear to Kacchan how sorry you are, for... you know... the whole... throwinghimdownsomestairs thing. Which wasn't your *fault*, but you're sorry that it *happened*.

A little gift should soothe the savage beast, or at least make him less explodey and more quietly grouchy!

Your running has certainly improved; you're not too badly out of breath by the time you hit the retail area, rushing into a card/gift shop and glancing around. If you don't find anything here, there's a couple of other shops you can try.

You sick, brutal fuck. I like it.

>card+comic combo

Frowning, you skim the shelves. Eeerything with All Might on is, well... kind of tacky, low-quality stuff. It's only a card/gift shop, after all - just a card will do, and then you can quickly check somewhere else.

At least the card turns out somewhat better; they're just restocking at the moment, and a basket sits in front of the GET WELL SOON cards with various new ones to place on display. One of which consists of a well-drawn, black and white sketch of All Might holding a large bunch of flowers, his smile more sympathetic than bold.

It's rare to find a black-and-white All Might card, let alone one where he isn't beaming, but that just makes it all the more eye-catching; you snatch one up and toss it down on the counter to pay for it quickly.

"Can I borrow a pen? Just to fill this out," you add, while the lady sorts out your change; you flip it open as quickly as possible to scribble a 'To Kacchan' at the top, and 'From Izuku' at the bottom, and then shove it hurriedly into the envelope.

You have maybe... eight minutes to grab a gift before you need to get to Auntie's.

Fortunately, it isn't as hard as you'd worried.

Just three doors down, you pause in front of a comic shop you haven't been in for... wow, two years now? Old Mr Tanakawa retired, and you felt kind of sad about going in since, so...
>>
Well, it's been three years, and there's no time for that anyway! You barge inside, keen All Might-detecting senses immediately focusing in on the All Might comics. The guy at the counter looks up briefly when you enter, before going back to his Bimtendo SD.

That one's the last of an arc, no good - that series was panned, definitely not - reprint, Kacchan already has it - awful artwork, they got All Might's costume coloration completely off for the era, disgusting - you sigh in annoyance, desperately searching, before more All Might comics draw your attention from a separate section.

'ALL MIGHT & NIGHTEYE: TEAM UP, TIED DOWN!' the cover of one proclaims, showing All Might clutching on to Sir Nighteye, obviously set during their hero & sidekick days. You check your watch - only a couple of minute - but the artwork looks good on the cover at least (and the costume accuracy is perfect!), it's a one-parter so there won't be any missing plot, and it looks new; Kacchan won't have read this one!

You snatch it up, tossing it on the counter (the guy scans it while barely looking from his game), and run out at top speed.

Card, check. Gift, check.

Now on to Auntie's!

You make it there in record time (thanks, fitness routine!), making a call to mom along the way to let her know where you're going.

- Fitness: Level 2

"You're looking good, kid," Auntie praises as the three of you load into the car, your presents safe in your schoolbag. "I mean, apart from the whole 'about to drop dead of exhaustion' part - did something good happen?"

You grin, feeling a happy flutter that your improvements are already obvious. "I rethought a few things, and made some changes," you admit.

"I got All Might's autograph!" You lift your schoolbag, which contains your new Most Precious Object. You really ought to keep it at home, but you just *had* to bring it in today, to reassure yourself you really had it.

Auntie and Uncle are certainly impressed by THAT - you end up explaining how All Might's secretary dropped it off after you missed meeting All Might the other day at the bridge.

Now you think about it, remembering your time at the station with the benefit if a calm mind, just how did the detective believe you so quickly? It can't just be because he'd met you before, right?

The hospital isn't all that far away, especially with the benefit of a car rather than relying on public transport, and the three of you breeze through to Kacchan's ward easily enough.

"You go ahead and see that loud-ass punk, we just need to check in with the doctors," Auntie says, waving you off towards Kacchan's room, as she and Uncle head into an office. You nod eagerly, almost bouncing at finally getting a chance to see Kacchan awake and uninjured, and traipse past medical staff and visitors.

Smiling with anticipation, you enter the ward - not too loudly, but it's late enough in the day you don't really need to sneak - scanning for Kacchan's bed.

It's easy to spot, because there's only six in the room, only three of which are taken, and only one of those has Kacchan sitting on it, looking grouchily bored right up until he... sees you.

His jaw drops, face paling, a faint jolt in his upper body as he leans back and away from you, fingers spasm-clenching at the bedcovers.

Your smile widens as you lift a hand and wave. Kacchan definitely didn't expect to see you!

"Jesusfuck," you see him whisper as you approach, too quiet to hear from this distance; his eyes flicker fast around the room, resting on the other two kids, one asleep and the other engrossed in some kind of music or podcast on their phone. He swallows as you get close to the bed.

"You're here," he states, low and reluctant, hands now frozen around the sheets as he stares up at you. "Why the fuck are you here?"

He sounds oddly somber, some tone you can't quite recognize in his voice, and you tilt your head, amused by the question.

"Of course I'd come for you, Kacchan! Why wouldn't I?"

His eyes widen further, pupils dilating in obvious surprise at your answer, and you feel your heart clench briefly in sadness. He really thought you'd... what, avoid him? Why? Did he think you'd blame him for the arrest? That's all been sorted out!

>Don't worry, Kacchan. I know you don't blame me for what happened!

Well, you can't let your best friend worry or feel guilty about getting you in trouble! Not when you both know it was just a series of horrible misfortunes. "The police already ruled it an accident, Kacchan! I'm not in any trouble," you reassure, stepping closer as Kacchan flinches back. "And I'll ALWAYS come for you! How else can I take care of you?"

His hands crackle and spark, the bedsheets blackening under the tight grip. "You're - fuck, Dek- Midoriya," he breathes, hard and fast, unblinking face tensed, obviously overwhelmed by your insistence, and you feel your heart lighten as he says your name - you REAL name! Your smile turns gentle, gaze softening. He's already called you by name; you can't help but feel that tsun-tsun shell might just be developing a crack or two. Best not to push too hard though, not all of a sudden; easy does it. "I think you know what I want, Kacchan."

Kacchan straightens slightly, taking a deep, shuddering breath. "Yeah," he says with finality. "I know what you want." One hand unclenches from the sheets, fisting into a caramel-crackling ball instead, as he glares at you. Why does nitroglycerin smell so delicious? "Well, maybe I shoulda seen this coming. The only thing you can really do is answer honestly. Ducking your head, you feel your smile turn wan as you study the clean linoleum. "You said yourself that I'll never be a hero, so I'm focusing on what I can do instead," you admit. "Isn't that what you wanted, Kacchan?"

You risk a sneaky glance up at him, keeping your head lowered as you do; he's grinding his teeth, but instead of the usual accompanying anger, Kacchan looks... like he's steeling himself, determination carving itself across his still-pale face. "Yeah," he mutters, as if to himself. "Yeah, that's what I wanted. But not like this shit."

Your heart twinges. He really - just wants you to be... safe? Happy? Of course he hadn't wanted you to be a hero, not without a quirk, not when you weren't even doing physical training. Of course you'd just have had your dream crushed at the entrance exam, brutally and publicly. "I'm going to succeed, Kacchan," you reassure him, gentle. "And it's no loss. I'm going to love every minute of it; I'm going to be the best I possibly can. Promise."

Kacchan scowls at that, glaring back up at you again. "I don't care what anyone else says about you; I know who you are, D- Midoriya. I know WHO you are. And I'm gonna fuckin' stop you, and *all* this shit."

... Wait. Wait.

Kacchan... NOW he wants you to want to be a hero?! Was he just - trying to push you to be more serious, to train properly? And now that you're just, just giving up, he's - he's pissed off about it? You can't think straight as your world goes off-kilter, Kacchan's infuriating tsun coming at you from a whole new angle.

"It's too late, Kacchan," you whisper, because you've finally found something real, achievable, *good*. "This was... inevitable."

A bleak silence dawns.

I predict him sticking to us like a burr when we enter UA, just waiting for us to slip up. And also maybe to protect people from us because there is the soul of a hero under all the profanity and explosions. (ofc Izuku will be ecstatic over this because its ~solid evidence~ that the tsun shell is melting!!!)

Become reverse-Jonah Jameson. 'Kacchan isn't a menace, he's a hero! And my best friend!'

>ha ha so anyway check out my loot

"... Also, I got All Might's autograph. Check it out!" You pull the Blessed Artefact from your bag, fingers pinching carefully at the corners as you hold it up to display the full, majestic glory, beatific awe upon your fanboy face. "Look! It's even addressed to me, personally! I got it at the police station!"

You didn't know Kacchan had a voice to rival Present Mic's... but now you do. And so do his ward-mates, and the nurses who run, yelling at him to calm down as they tackle his flailing, foaming-mouthed body to the ground, trying to restrain his popping, crackling hands without hurting themselves.

"Holy crap!" The podcast kid, wide-eyed, yanks out their headphones and holds his phone up to face Kacchan, who screeches and howls beneath the combined, determined weight of one take-no-shit matronly nurse, and one burly male one who looks like he's Seen Some Shit.

"I didn't think he'd get THAT excited," you mutter, carefully slipping the autograph back in your bag, oddly-guilty about the whole thing. Maybe you shouldn't have asked for one for Kacchan as well? But All Might's a busy guy, it seems kind of rude, you were greedy just asking for one...

Mumbling about the value of the number one here's time as another nurse hurtles in to stab a syringe into Kacchan's arm, you shuffle awkwardly from one foot to the other. As prickly as Kacchan is (well, not now, slumping into gargling unconsciousness), he really doesn't need to be so loud in a hospital. People are resting!

You sigh as the nurses heave Kacchan onto his bed, glancing over to the phone kid, who's just tapping away at it now. At least everyone in here was awake already - now, with the nurses busy and Kacchan... incapacitated... you get closer to his bed; there's his schoolbag there, obviously brought with him, and you quickly slip the get-well card and All Might comic into his own bag. He can enjoy them on his own time, and finding them in private means he won't have to put on an angry act! Bonus!

You nod proudly; all in all, it's been a productive visit, even if your study session is probably off. He's even calling you Midoriya! Next stop, Izuku. Or even Izukun!

There will be future dinners, unless you accidentally kill him first.

>a fine addition to your collection

Shrugging at this mild inconvenience (why does Kacchan have to be so dramatic all the time?), you pull out your own phone and carefully position yourself by your best friend. He's currently passed out on top of the covers, remains of bubbling froth around his open mouth; you get him nicely in frame with yourself, putting on a happy smile and holding up a peace sign.

It turns out really well! That's what you think as you glance at the finished product, anyway - maybe you should add a filter as well? Save it as your wallpaper or lock-screen? A thought for a different time, maybe. For now, you should probably go find Auntie and Uncle.

They're just coming out of the doctor's office as you go to see them, looking somewhere between annoyed and amused. "That moron got himself drugged up, huh?" Auntie's blunt as ever as she sees you. "Serves that little punk right, I thought he was being too quiet - why'd he start screaming this time?"

"I showed him the All Might autograph, and he got kind of overexcited," you admit, a little embarrassed, but Auntie just barks a laugh and rolls her eyes.

"Typical! That kid needs to learn some self-control if he really wants to be a hero; at least they got him before he blew anything up." She sighs, folding her arms. "Well, I guess the study session's a bust, but they're still releasing him - want dinner anyway? The punk'll sleep through it, but that just means more for you."

Dinner is enthusiastically accepted, and you even manage to get another another selfie with Kacchan slumped and drooling in his wheelchair as Uncle pushes him out. It's adorable! Apparently he'll wake up in a few hours, but you doubt you'll get to stick around long enough.

That's fine. You'll see him in school tomorrow, and he can tsun about your gift! Maybe - he'll even call you... Izuku...?

No, no, that's way too fast. That thick shell can't be broken down so quickly; this is a long-term job, but you're determined to see it through.

After his parents get him settled up in his room, dinner is a pleasant affair. You haven't caught up with Auntie and Uncle in a while, between your school and their jobs, especially as you haven't been around Kacchan's in a while - and of course, when Auntie and mom are together, they're too busy with each other.

Over dinner, you ask about Kaccchan's U.A. application (unsurprisingly, he's training hard), enthusing about how you're going to aim for the Management course (Auntie seems thrilled at the idea you might become Kacchan's manager one day), and ask for advice on dealing with his... physicality.

As it turns out, the pair are absolutely no help whatsoever, with Uncle Masaru simply ignoring any outbursts and leaving discipline to his wife, while Auntie laughs and tells you all Kacchan really needs is a good, hard clip around the ear.

Hmm.

The food is good, anyway, and it's nice to catch up; Kacchan should be asleep for a while longer as you leave, but you'll both be back at school tomorrow. A solid hour of careful study (aka messing around poking at code) nets you a bit more confidence in the realms of programming, as well as a good bit more basic understanding, thanks to a few articles you skim. You really need to knuckle down and read a few of those longer, more-indepth books you downloaded, too.

- Programming: Level 2.5
- Computer Knowhow: Level 6

For now though, you're forced to finally sleep, devoid of Stranger Danger-sensei's friendly computer invasions, precious All Might autograph now safely contained within a sturdy frame on your desk.

All in all, you'd say it's been a pretty good day.

The next morning, scarfing down your breakfast and trying to suppress your excitement over seeing Kacchan again, you turn your attention to the local news highlights. There's not much going on, apart from

>twice the investigation!

Ah, it's that villain, Twice; on the news robbing a jewelry store, with another dozen of himself. Over the past couple of years he's risen to become one of Japan's most wanted criminals, although judging by the looks of his clones (what a useful quirk! Does he keep all their memories? Imagine what studying could be done...), he doesn't seem to have all that great control over them. Two of them are even arguing over who carries what loot.

Between his clones playing distraction, and the fact he's after profit rather than hurting people, it's hard to catch the guy; he's often in and out before heroes can even get to the scene, and who says he's ever there in the first place? Depending on how his quirk works, he could well be over a mile away every time he's robbing somewhere, especially as he changes cities every now and then...

Finishing off your breakfast, you grab your bag and start a steady jog to school to keep yourself limber. You can't help but think, considering he's in Musutafu for now,

... that maybe you can try and track him down?

You doubt you'll succeed, of course - the guy's up there on Japan's most wanted, he doubtless already has some kind of police team working on him - but. Well. It's good practice, isn't it? And it's not like a kid like you is going to be stepping on anyone's toes, right? You probably won't even get close.

So it's fine, you decide, as you reach the school gates, students double-taking at your appearance and giving a wide berth. Ah, that's right - they still think you decided Kacchan was empty and yeeted him.

Well, that's not your problem! You're already used to being a social pariah, at least they're staying away from you now. You make your jaunty way to the classroom and do a little light reading (programming 101!) before homeroom begins. You glance up from your e-book, idly notiving how many classmates are whispering to each other over their phones this morning. Kacchan should be here soon...

Kacchan finally, FINALLY arrives, with his typical half-skulk, half-swagger, and a go-fuck-yourself expression. You can already see it gracing his future merchandise!

The rest of the class seem torn between looking at him, looking at you, and very pointedly ignoring the both of you; even Kacchan's lack- no, *friends* seem hesitant to approach, nudging each other to be the first as he slams down into his seat.

Gripping the edges of your desk, you forced yourself to stay seated. Kacchan'll definitely feel pressured if you approach him now, all eyes on him.

You remain aloof, like a cat. A catchan. Ha, Kacchan, catchan. You're distracted from drawing a grumpy, cat version of Kacchan, explosions popping off his fur, by the quiet tinny voice of... Kacchan screaming in fury?

You jolt up, surprised, only to see one of your classmates quickly shoving some headphones back into their phone. Why do they have a video of Kacchan getting mad...?

Your BFF also seems to want to know, eyes narrowing as he turns in the suddenly tense room - but your homeroom teacher conveniently saves a life with his arrival.

Roll call is... awkward. At least things perk up a little when school properly starts, the math teacher arriving and calling for you all to get your homework out.

You'd honestly forgotten about the gifts you'd got Kacchan, as the class reaches into their respective bags.

>hot as the surface of the tsun

Once upon a time, Bakugou Katsuki had been on top of the world. Wealthy family, perfect quirk, good looks, great brain. Sure, he was surrounded by weak morons, but everyone needed stepping-stones, and U.A. would be more tolerable - it was just a matter of putting up with the shitty trash until then.

And of course, there was Deku.If he'd just been quirkless, that would have been one thing - shit happened, that was just bad luck, and SOMEONE had to be bottom of the heap. Katsuki might have pushed him around if he got in the way, but otherwise, why even bother? Everyone else was so far beneath him, there wasn't really that much extra difference.

But Deku? No, he wasn't just useless - he was useless *and* thought he could be a hero. A hero! His plain looks and unimportant family weren't huge obstacles there; look at that water hero in Hosu, he looked boring as fuck. But without a quirk? Not even a decent support or healing one?

What a fucking dipshit.

And the creepy muttering - and the 'Kacchan, Kacchan!' - and the way the shitty moron kept throwing himself in front of the wussy extras that Katsuki felt like playing around with?

Ugh. Katsuki would have given his rarest All Might poster to make the idiot stop, and now... now he wished it would all go back to normal.

Something had gone seriously wrong in that fucked-up mind.

Sure, he still called Katsuki 'Kacchan', sure, he still muttered, but... he didn't want to be a hero. He wanted to be a fucking VILLAIN. Apparently he'd finally been fucking pushed far enough that he'd gone com-crapping-pletely doolally and decided to start his little murder spree with his main bull- classmate.

Not really that surprising in hindsight, except Katsuki had never thought he'd have the balls for it.

And yeah, all right... the freaky little deku was smart, he could admit it. He just didn't realize he could con the police into thinking his BLATANT MURDER ATTEMPT was an accident. Like, what the fuck? Yeah, the cops were useless, but there were limits!

And now, Katsuki knew, as he gritted his teeth and reached into his bag for the homework, now the piece of shit was acting all innocent, like a cat playing with mice. Sure, everyone in class thought he'd done something, but they thought he'd just fucking snapped on 'Kacchan', not that he'd planned it. Not that he was going to do it again.

Psychopathic little shitwad.

When he was in U.A., Katsuki swore to himself, furiously yanking, a bulk of papers out and letting half of them fall next to his seat, he was going to report that villain-wannabe to the teachers. THEY'D take it seriously. Hell, maybe they'd let him punch-
>>
"Bakugou-kun?" The teacher's voice is horrified from beside him, and Katsuki looks up to where the trash has stopped as he goes to collect the essays. One bundle of papers is clasped under an arm, the other holding out some kind of comic at almost arms length, on full display. Some All Might one. Wait, did he just drop that from his bag?

"Yeah?"

The teacher's face turns towards Katsuki, blanched white, nostrils flaring in something between shock and revulsion. "WHY EXACTLY DO YOU HAVE PORNOGRAPHY IN YOUR BAG, BAKUGOU KATSUKI?!"

As the gasps and giggles echo around the room, all Katsuki can hear is the blood pounding in his ears, and an inner voice screaming 'DEKUUUUUUUUU'. Right up until the explosions start.

Twenty minutes later, sitting in the principal's office as the man speaks to his mother outside, Katsuki numbly searches through the rest of his hastily repacked bag, just in case; and pulls out an envelope, containing a card with a sympathetic-looking All Might on it.

(He can't help but flinch a little at the sight of the number one hero, some tiny part of him scarred for life from where the teacher had flipped the comic open -)

'To Kacchan,' is hastily scribbled inside at the top, and 'From Izuku' at the bottom - and in the middle, in neat, flowery print is, 'WITH CONDOLENCES ON YOUR LOSS AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME'.

The explosions are only large enough to blow up the card this time, but the furious screams echo throughout the entire school.

Meanwhile, Midoriya Izuku, having not caught a good look at the porn is question, is incredibly confused.

Really? People write porn of that stuff? But why?

You frown, shaking your head as your fingers twitch for a pen and notebook to try and write down hypotheses. Having been given a free period due to the... events, your classmates have abandoned their seats and aren't even bothering to quieten their voices as they gossip and message others.

Apparently even your own presence isn't enough to cow them right now, between Kacchan's weird porn and what you've figured out to be a recording of him getting sedated last night.

That kid with the phone must really be racking up the hits.

Sighing, you pull out your own textbook, wondering if you're ever going to get to hand your own homework in, and what's happening to Kacchan right now. After blowing up his desk earlier and now that furious screaming from downstairs, it seems like he might actually get in trouble this time.

"- looks like a limited run," someone is saying excitedly, a small group crowded around their phone. It looks like they're searching for the specific comic online, the original having vanished with the teacher.

"Wait a minute..." you wonder aloud, snapping straight as you stare forwards at the blackboard. "How did the teacher recognize that specific porno mag?"

Silence falls, students' faces turning slowly in your direction.

>I mean, that's kind of weird, right?
>I'm sure there's a perfectly innocent explanation! Like... uh... ... ... huh.
>... but personally, I believe Kacchan's innocent of all charges!

>>4505015
"Hey can you get your boss to sign this porn of him for my friend"
Even Izuku knows this is a bad idea for Kacchan's future as a hero
>>
>teacher-sensei is just teacher-teacher and that's okay

"I mean," you tack on awkwardly, not used to being the center of non-mocking attention, "that's kind of weird, right?"

"That IS kinda weird," one girl agrees, now that they've determined you aren't going to leap upon them and rip their throats out with your teeth. "I mean, I only saw the cover, but it looked kind of normal to me, apart from that big '18+' in the corner..."

"But when it fell open, though!" Her friend sounds way too excited.

"Would a teacher really recognize that, though?" One boy you recognize as one of Kacchan's sometime-groupies speaks up. "I mean, I know *I* wouldn't, but I've never looked at porn in my life, ever, so..."

The topic is apparently so hot, everyone ignores this blatant lie in favor of erupting into an even louder, more intense discussion - half 'KATSUKI BROUGHT PORN TO SCHOOL, AND IT WAS *ALL MIGHT* PORN', and half 'OUR TEACHER IS A RAGING PERVERT'.

You're not sure how recognizing a porno is less perverted than actually bringing it to school, but now your brain is switching over from these mysteries to 'Kacchan... got caught with porn...' it's starting to slowly dawn on you through the numb shock that this probably isn't great for Kacchan's hero career. Or even his getting-into-U.A-career.

"Oh, no," you whisper, knuckles whitening as you clutch your textbook, voice inaudible over the ecstatic din of teenagers drunk on rumors. "Oh. Oh no. No. Noooo."

... You suspect that Kacchan issn't going to be coming back to school today.

>To save Kacchan's reputation you need to distract the school with bigger gossip! Now you need to find or cause a scandal...
>To save Kacchan's reputation you need to remove the blame for Kacchan! If it really is his, and not a plant, you... couldn't possibly frame someone else, right...? That would be wrong...

One of the teachers. Actually, ALL of the teachers would be better, but you doubt all of them are doing something scandal-worthy. (You hope.)

The only lead you have right now if a potential one - the math teacher recognizing that comic - but there's plenty of other teachers you could look into. They need to be from this grade, or it won't be as big news for your class, preferably teaching them as well.

You're definitely not good enough to start prying through computers just yet, but... this also needs to be done fairly fast.

Ten minutes of careful tapping, ignoring the continuing noise of the classroom, nets you.. nothing. You pointlessly hammer your head against the school's defences, frustration and embarrassment growing as you do.

This is too shameful. You duck your head, hunching your shoulders over the phone as you stare down at the words. Why did you think you could even manage this? A little reading, a little writing basic code, and you thought you could do *this*? Even if it's just a crappy school system, you still can't just expect to waltz through it.

... And now even Stranger Danger-sensei's seen you bite off something bigger than you can chew.

Your fingers pause on the phone screen as shame turns to reluctant contemplation. Stranger Danger is... sort of well-inclined towards you? Maybe? They have an interest in you, anyway, and you've already agreed to do something for them, so...

Eyes twitching around the oblivious classmates, you gnaw on the inside of your cheek. Should you...? You COULD, but...

But this needs to be done *fast*. Kacchan's reptuation is undoubtedly going down with every second, and he'll just build those walls up even higher...!

You take a deep breath, and type
