/qst/ - Quests

Approximately one year ago, there was a solar eclipse and, during that period of darkness, Pokemon appeared upon the Earth. It took only a small period of hysteria before people embraced the Pokemon and, within months, the first Pokemon Tournament was held in Tokyo, Japan. You are Andrew Gwan, a (nearly) broke 18-year-old living with his mother in New York City. After graduating high school, you decided that your goal in life would be to become a Pokemon trainer and win the 2nd Annual Pokemon Tournament.

After crawling through sewers and trespassing in a hospital, you have captured four Pokemon: a Rattata family, Mottata, Sonttata, and Dauttata; and a Litwick named Gaspar. This is one of your days off and you decided to spend it participating in a smalltime Pokemon tournament sponsored by Subway. You and your partner, a Japanese man called Satoshi who barely speaks English and dresses like Ash Ketchum from the cartoon, just won your first match now prepare to fight an elderly couple.

Satoshi is leaned over your shoulder in a close huddle, discussing what you assume must be battle strategy but in such a thick accent that you cannot actually understand anything he is trying to tell you. Your unproductive brainstorming is interrupted by a klaxon from the loudspeaker, followed by an ad informing you that the $5 footlong deal is back on. You begrudgingly listen to the advertisement in the knowledge that it is followed by actually important information: an announcement that your second match is starting on the other field, where you will face Agnes and Albert.

You take the south side of the field next to Satoshi, who’s Pikachu jumps off his arm and into position on the grass. You release your Litwick. On the opposing side, you can see a woman of around 75 being carried onto the field by a Machop. You look over at Satoshi to see if he registers anything weird about that, but he’s so set in his ‘battle stance’ that he doesn’t even seem to register you. Looking around at the crowd, however, you can see that others at least find it just as weird as you do.

After being deposited gently onto the trainer’s spot, the woman calls out in the screechiest possible voice: “Al! AL!!!!! Get over here Al, the match is starting!” You look over in the direction Agnes was shouting and, after a half minute, see an man of similar age moving his walker in the direction of the field, a Kirlia at his side. As the couple approach each other, a low grumbling from both parties escalates in volume and frequency. Ignoring the bickering continuing on the opposite side, the judge takes his position on one side of the field and, raising a green flag, orders the match to begin.

Before we get into battle some questions.

1. Is our father alive
2. Does Pokemon evolution happen by trading or by other means.
3. Our Pokemon do they have any stand out characteristics.
4.how does the government uses Pokemon.
>>
>>4474972
A few more questions from me:
5. Is there mega evolutions,dynamax and/or Z-moves?
6. Who was the winner of the first tournament and what is his/hers ace pokemon?
7. Which gym is the closest again and what type is it?
8. Are we gonna have to fight a terrorist organisation?
9. We going for the traditional pokemon game or are we gonna have special story threads like in the anime
>>
>>4474990
>>4474972

Before we start this session, I’ll do my best to answer these questions.

1. Yes, our father is alive. He even lives just a few hours away in Camden, New Jersey. Unfortunately, he’s a classic deadbeat and never really seemed interested in having his kid be part of his life. You haven’t seen him in more than a decade.

2. Yes. I’ve tried to follow the game or anime wherever possible, so some evolutions are only possible through trades, high friendship, stones, etc.

3. Your Rattata family is exceptionally cute. Besides that, no, your Pokemon are not more special than other Pokemon.

4. The government is just beginning to, but there is a lot of pushback. It’s only been a year since Pokemon came to Earth and the boomers who run most countries have generally been slow to use them for anything. Pokemon will probably transform the world even more, but it hasn’t happened yet.

5. A brief read over the wiki makes it seem like, in the anime, Mega evolutions, Z moves, and Dynamaxing are all pretty recent discoveries by PokeScientists. Maybe they’ll appear later on the quest, but, as of now, none of these exist.

6. The winner of the first tournament was Takamasa Itagaki. His lead Pokemon is a Dragonite.

7. The closest gym is actually in NYC, over in Manhattan. The local gym leader is Jesse Rosenblum and most of his Pokemon are poison type.

8. You have heard about some terrorist organizations using Pokemon, but none in the USA. Over here the main problem has been organized crime.

9. I’m going to try for a mix of both. There will be a lot of battles, but also story acts and decisions. Which predominates will depend on what decisions you guys makes.

Different person but also I have a question

1. Does people knows about IV/EV and all that "pro pokemon gaming" stuff that is well know in OUR world?
2. Are there any PHYSICAL (room for them, food etc.) or by LAW(any legal pokemon owner can have only X amount of pokemon) limits how many pokemons we can have with us (like standard 6 in pokemon games)?
3. Level scaling of pokemon/battles - are everyone low leveled because Pokemon are recent and leveling some pokemons would take years? Or there are some "dangerous regions" with high leveled pokemons? Safari Zones etc.
4. How many pokemons are know to the people? 151 or all of them?

This duo is certainly more formidable than the last, you can tell just by looking at the fighting stances their Pokemon have adopted. That just makes you all the more surprised when, instead of darting across the field, Satoshi’s Pikachu flops over on its back and exposes its belly to the opposing Pokemon. Your mouth nearly drops open in shock -- this goes against everything you’ve learned in Pokemon fighting and must go even harder against Pikachu’s natural instincts; if Satoshi can get his Pikachu to do that, he must have some incredible bond with it.

Rather than take advantage of Pikachu’s exposure, however, Machop and Kirlia seem to follow some rule of sportsmanship and leave it be. Machop merely gives Pikachu a hard stare. Ignoring that side of the field entirely, Kirlia rushes straight at Gaspar and, leaping into the air, comes down head first, planting a kiss firmly on Gaspar’s head! -- this battle is off to a strange start!

Good questions anon. I’ll try to give halfway decent answers.

1. No, people have no idea. Pokemon do perform better under some circumstances and some Pokemon are naturally better than others (I’m using generated IV/EV scores in the calculations), but nobody has come close to putting numbers on anything.

2. There are no general physical or legal restrictions on Pokemon, at least not in the USA. You, however, have some major restrictions on ownership due to lacking the money for Pokeballs and lacking space in your small apartment.

3. Everyone is pretty much at your level right now because the quest is more fun if you aren’t constantly getting trounced. There are locations with much stronger Pokemon, but we haven’t really gone exploring. The only one we know about (thank you previous qm) is that there are high level dragon Pokemon over on North Brother Island.

4. Almost all of the Pokemon are known. There are some exceptions of legendary Pokemon who haven’t been observed yet, such as Ho-oh and Kyogre. But, since all of the other Pokemon magically appeared a year ago, it is assumed that they’re there too.

It only lasts a second. As sweet as a mother planting a kiss on her infant’s head, Kirlia smooches Gaspar and, with acrobatic grace, catches herself on her hands and flips to land behind Gaspar. Amazingly, her feet are planted in perfect position.

Gaspar’s flames begin to glow with an eerie and otherworldly light, casting dark shadows even on a bright and sunny day. These shadows dance in the flickering candle light, contorting themselves into strange shapes as the gaze of your adversaries to drawn to Gaspar’s light. Only Pikachu, acting on a forewarning you gave to Satoshi, manages to avert his eyes until the Litwick’s light dims.

Pikachu looks up once Satoshi gives him the whistle for 'all clear’ and, taking advantage of the fascination that Kirlia and Machop have with Gaspar’s flame, rushes across the field to face Machop. Machop only notices when Pikachu is almost on top of him and shifts his stance to defend. Casually sidestepping Pikachu, Machop tries to come down where he was with an open palm slice. Even when missing his target, however, Pikachu is faster than expected and, by the time Machop strikes, he hits only air where Pikachu had been.

On the other side of the field, Kirlia seems to have wormed her way out of the daze, gently pirouetting around Gaspar and looking for an opening. Upon striking at him, however, her balance goes haywire. Rather than striking at Gaspar, Kirlia somehow leaps over him and, unlike last time, cannot react quickly enough to save the landing. She lands badly; you’re sure that if any human had done that, she’d be unable to walk. As is, Kirlia gets to her feet again after a delay and without the grace that seemed so natural at the beginning of the match.

On the other side of the field, Pikachu again charges at Machop, feinting a headlong attack before ducking behind the Machop and filling the air with a fierce electric crackling. The flash from Pikachu’s electrical discharge lights up the already bright summer’s day, but doesn’t topple the Machop. To your horror, Machop spins around on his right foot, swinging the left behind him in one fluid motion to catch Pikachu directly in the face! Pikachu goes flying off to the edge of the field and, after tense seconds of Satoshi shouting, the referee waves his red flag to announce that Pikachu is unable to battle.

>Gaspar rolled 215!
>Kirlia rolled 211!

Back on your own side, you order Gaspar to take advantage of Kirlia’s loss of balance by releasing a thick and oily smoke over the field nearby. Kirlia’s injury must not be as bad as thought, however, since, after only a single intake of the sickly and fetid air, Kirlia springs back over the field.

Taking two quick steps back across the grass, Kirlia narrows her eyes and holds her hands in front of her, and, in imitation of a ballerina, lifts one leg daintily off the ground. Your head starts to hurt slightly and your view of Kirlia becomes distorted; a ringing starts in your eyes. Squinting your eyes against the discomfort, you see that the distortion appears to be rings projecting from Kirlia and toward Gaspar. He doesn’t seem to react, but, judging from what’s happening to you, it can’t be good.

It’s two against one now and that Machop is barreling towards Gaspar at full speed; you decide that some special tactics are called for here. Making frantic hand motions that you desperately hope Gaspar understands, you indicate that he should dodge Machop to the side and then leap on his back, giving him a great position to blast smog out over both foes.

Your plan breaks down at the very first stage. It seems like you can’t get inside that ghost’s head and, when Machop comes barreling towards him, he does... nothing. Just stands there immobile. His face even disappears. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to matter because Machop runs straight through him, like he was a hologram or an even less corporeal phantom. Belatedly, Gaspar does let off a cloud of noxious fumes, but, with Machop several paces through your Litwick and Kirlia poised yards away, it doesn’t affect anyone.

Your head starts to hurt again, seemingly vibrating like a mini earthquake entirely concentrated inside your skull. Directly across from you, you can see Kirlia has taken up a line of fire that puts you in the crosshairs.

Almost as soon as your headache starts, however, it begins to fade and you see that, Kirlia has lowered her arms in anticipation of Machop’s return to finish up the job with your Litwick. Machop, again, rushes straight through Gaspar. Across the field, you can see first Al and then Agnes rub their eyes. It doesn’t take long for the bickering to start. Even across the field, you can hear the accusations start flying over whose fault it is that the Pokeman keeps running through the other goshdarn Pokeman.

Fortunately for you, the lack of leadership coming from the other side of the field has left the Pokemon without the direction they clearly need; unlike Satoshi’s Pikachu, they just don’t have that killer instinct on their own. As Kirlia glances back toward his master and slowly rotates en pointe, you direct Gaspar to slither closer; only a few feet away when Kirlia notices him, Gaspar manages to pump the air full of foul smog before even that nimble creature can react. Kirlia breaths in a lungful and collapses on the crowd, her slim body wracked by coughs.

The referee holds up a red flag and shout, “Kirlia is unable to battle.” Looking at the Machop, who again is angling to whip around and tackle Gaspar again, the ref blows the whistle around his neck and calls a time out. If possible, the bickering from the other end intensifies in volume.

>Gaspar has advanced to Level 18!

You walk up to the referee’s bench and, after watching him desperately and unsuccessfully attempt to silence the old couple before they’ve had their share of carping, learn that, since Machop is unable to attack Gaspar, the match is considered a technical win for your side. You see Agnes’s face discolor until it resembles a beet and, after checking that your victory is legal, leave the huddle before that geriatric time bomb can blow up at you.

Grabbing Satoshi at the edge of the park, his Pikachu freshly bandaged, you explain the situation to him. Or, at least, you try to. His repetition of seemingly random words makes you less than confident about his level of understanding. But there is no doubt that he gets another match is happening and that’s what really matters. You have a few minutes here to come up with a strategy to face the Roy and Arjun in the finals round; is there any plan you have to defeat their Grimer and Meowth?

You huddle down with Satoshi and go over your plan: matching each Pokemon’s strengths, you’ll take Arjun’s Meowth while Satoshi focuses on the Grimer. You agree in advance to change up the plan and both go after Meowth if it turns out he has any dark movements. He nods. Let’s hope that, this time, that means he understands.

You take your position on the far end of the field. It is the first field, Subway doesn’t seem to have splurged for another finals field. They have, however, decorated the sides of the field with banners advertising Subway deals. Arjun and Roy nod at you from across the field and you all release your Pokemon. You’ve got your plan; you can only assume that Arjun and Roy have their own. Now it’s up to who can move first. The ref’s whistle blows.

To your surprise, looking at the lithe Meowth across from you and Satoshi’s alert Pikachu to your side, it is Roy’s Grimer who strikes first. Extending a slimy limb towards you, you suddenly smell a rotten odor and realize that Grimer is shooting gas at you! You caught a whiff, but whatever the real stuff is must be a thousand times worst. You’d love to try and help Pikachu, but you’ve got to stick to the strategy. Rather than deflecting the gas, you’ve got to take out that Meowth. You order Gaspar to confuse and disorient the opposing Pokemon and, understanding your signal, his queer dance starts. The flame around Gaspar’s wick flashes different colors and sends shadows dancing around the field in a parody of Gaspar’s own erratic dance.

Deliberately turning away from the dancing shadows created by Gaspar’s flame, Pikachu rushes at Grimer. As it shoots towards Grimer, Pikachu suddenly goes flying off the side, shallow scratch marks in its face from the hissing Meowth standing in its path. Holy cow! That Meowth appeared out of nowhere! Could it be even faster than Pikachu?

Pikachu, on its guard now, locks eyes with Meowth and drives in the other direction. Meowth takes off right behind it, the two creatures perceptible only as blurs tearing across the grass. Leaving a trail of dead plant life in its wake, Grimer is approaching your near stationary Pokemon; it raises a slimy arm to come down on Gaspar.

Whatever those gases were, though, they don’t seem to have any effect on Gaspar. After the sickening release, however, Grimer looks at a loss of what to do. Its eyes meander wildly across the field, as if it can’t locate the Pokemon directly in front of it. Waving its limbs about randomly, Grimer happens to brush against Gaspar’s flame, lighting part of its arm on fire before another release of gas douses it.

Across the field, Pikachu and Meowth are still running circles around each other. The entire crowd’s attention is momentarily drawn there when Pikachu’s thunder again lights up the battle. Meowth, however, bounces back unscathed and launches itself at Pikachu. Pikachu ducks, but not before Meowth latches its sharp fangs into Pikachu’s ear, holding on for several seconds before Pikachu manages to fight it off.

Unable to locate the Pokemon right in front of its face, Grimer makes another revolting sound from deep inside it and you worry what kind of toxic gas it might be generating this time.

Gaspar is sitting almost directly beneath Grimer’s nose — or where a nose would be — but the slimy behemoth doesn’t seem to notice. You call out to your Pokemon: “You can do it Gaspar! Show him what you’ve made of! Light him up!” You turn to Satoshi and makes sure that he heard it to; pulling his cap at a jaunty angle, he flashes a smile. If he didn’t understand the words, he’s sure pulling it off well.

Positioned in the center of Grimer’s mass, Gaspar lets off a torrent of ghostly bluish flame from his wick. As it touches the exposed parts of Grimer’s body, it catches and transforms into a bright red, emitting dark and foul-smelling smoke.

Across the field, Meowth and Pikachu are still tearing after each other, faster than almost anyone can track; they appear in one corner for a flash and are on the other side the next second. The real action remains with you Litwick and Grimer.

good job boys we did alot of damage it seems
Also QM how do you calculate damage and all that? Is it just the attack roll - defence?
>>
>>4486109
For the most part, yes. But then I realized that different moves deal different amount of damage. So, right now, it is the attack role minus the defense role multiplied by the damage multiplier for that attack. So, Ember has a 0.4 multiplier and will deal 40% of the difference between the attack and defense roll.

If the audience hoped for action, though, they’re probably going to be a bit disappointed. While Meowth and Pikachu tear around the field in an eye-blurringly quick game of cat and (electric) mouse, Gaspar and Grimer remain right next to each other, even if Grimer can’t seem to tell. Seeming oblivious to Roy’s frantic gesticulating and pointing, Grimer remains blissfully unaware of your Litwick, right in front of it and seemingly immune to its gases and stench.

Fortunately, you cannot ignore the huge pile of sewage a few yards away and neither can Gaspar. What would you like Gaspar to do?

Once again you direct Gaspar to let out a burst of flames and the burning tendrils lash out at Grimer until they turn bright and various colors as they interact with the gases that Grimer constantly belches out. Grimer releases an odd shriek that you didn’t think a Pokemon like that was capable of making before pounding out the flames on its lower half.

Your attention is momentarily elsewhere as a high-pitched yowl echoes from where Meowth and Pikachu have caught each other up in a tussle. Dirt flies up as the Pokemon screech and grab at each other’s fur. Meowth seems to have Pikachu in a headlock, but, as you watch, Pikachu manages to escape and launch itself off the direction of Grimer. Meowth is following in hot pursuit.

Pikachu flies through your battlefield first, whizzing past Gaspar as it leaps through Grimer’s saggy arms. Flipping in midair, Pikachu turns toward Grimer and lets off a blinding electric shock, that sadly grounds itself several feet from where Grimer sits. Even more troubling, when Pikachu lands it immediately begins to cough, deep and heartily. Your Litwick may be fine sitting in whatever Grimer is pouring out, but Pikachu certainly isn’t.

>Meowth rolled 130!
>Gaspar rolled 208!

Close on Pikachu’s tail, Meowth bursts into your area. Spotting much easier prey, Meowth makes a hairpin turn and attempts to lunge, mouth open, at Gaspar. Fortunately, Meowth failed to account for the grass and, skidding slightly on its broad paws, Meowth misses Gaspar.

For his part, Gaspar hardly seems to notice to commotion around him. His face keeps staring placidly ahead. That is, until Meowth too shudders with a hacking cough, like a bad hairball. Suddenly, Gaspar’s face reappears on the side of his body closest to you and its eyes seem almost alive. What would you like Gaspar to do?

You decide to stand aside and let Gaspar’s naturally predatory instincts kick in. It makes you slightly uncomfortable, still, to see Gaspar like this, the hunger for the life energy of other Pokemon, or souls, or whatever you want to call them. The look in its lifeless eyes makes you distinctly uncomfortable.

As you watch, those large empty eyes glow darkly and seem to radiate a kind of black light, as if the area immediate around your Litwick became darker. Meowth’s coughs get worst. The hacking cough comes again and again, and this time, Meowth’s inhalation sounds raspy and strained. To your shock, Meowth collapses on the ground in a coughing fit. Arjun runs onto the field and only narrowly avoids disqualification by a sharp shrill whistle the second before, as the referee announces that Meowth is unable to battle. He grabs up the Pokemon is his arms and rushes it over to the nursing station, casting you a baleful look as he goes.

The ref blows his whistle again to restart the match. Glancing over at Pikachu, Grimer again unleashes a torrent of toxic gas.

Pikachu raises itself up and the hair on your forearms stands up as you feel the electrostatic tingle in the air but, after only a few moments, it ceases as Pikachu is consumed in a fit of violent coughing. The primordial sensation of lightning and air pressure dies down.

Still unharmed by whatever foulness Grimer is producing, Gaspar stands at the ready. His eyes remain hungry after Arjun took what would have been — and you shudder a bit at this thought — his meal.

>Gaspar rolled 201!
>Grimer rolled 92!

You signal Gaspar and, again, he lights up like a roman candle, sending hot tongues of flames flooding over Grimer. As Grimer turns his attention to patting out the spots of fire that have caught on its body, Pikachu stands up on his hind legs again. Using Grimer’s distraction as an opportunity to catch its ragged breath, Pikachu hair stands up and a crackling sound fills the field. Electricity arcs between its outstretched paws. When Grimer does cover the last flame and turn its attention back to Pikachu, it’s too late; a ball of lightning flashes in Pikachu’s paws and grounds itself toward Grimer.

The ooze slumps into itself. As the ref lifts up the green flag to indicate that you’ve won, Pikachu also topples to its side, coughing weakly. Satoshi rushes forward and cradles Pikachu in his arms. Instead of immediately rushing to the medical center, he turns to you: “You heal him with Jesus, yes?”

A lump forms in your throat. I’m mean, you’ve never said no to using your Faith Healing, but you’ve also never done it in public and your natural shyness kicks in. Do you heal Pikachu?

You look askance at the crowd gathered in this part of Prospect Park and the regional Subway manager striding languidly towards you. You realize you’ve never really done this whole Faith Healing thing in front of a crowd. A terrifying thought strikes you: maybe it’s some kind of aberration; maybe you’ll be that face in the New York Express or The National Inquirer in an article about weird powers. Worst, if someone asks you, they’ll probably ask about Jesus and, besides that one Bible study session, you know next to nothing about the man beyond he was God and then died and was God again.

Grinning awkwardly at Satoshi, you shake your head and mumble out, “I can’t... not in public. Just, go use the healing stations now and I can pray over him afterwards, you know, in case.”

You flash a smile that you hope comes off as reassuring — although you strongly suspect otherwise. Satoshi, however, keeps his stare fixed at you. Shaking the coughing Pikachu in front of you, he repeats, “You heal with Jesus.” It isn’t a question this time. “We friends now, so you heal best-friend Pikachu. If no,” He glares at you now, “then we no friends no more. No explore New York todofuken together. Rival instead.”

The crowd is even closer now and the Subway manager’s red, chubby face is only a few yards from reaching you. What do you want to do about Pikachu?

You don’t want to lose Satoshi as a companion, or worse have him turn into some kind of ‘video game’-esque rival, but performing Faith Healing in front of a crowd this big makes you... distinctly nervous. You’ve never heard of anyone else doing it before and Father Gary didn’t talk about anything besides Jesus, leaving you kind of at a loss over how other people would react.

Meeting Satoshi’s eye contact, you tell him, “It takes a week for me to ‘heal with Jesus’. Seven days until next time I can ‘heal with Jesus’.” Just to be certain you hold up seven fingers, to make sure the idea crosses the language barrier. Some flash of recognition crosses his face and, in the most caricatured Japanese accent possible, he goes, “Sorry, I not know it take one week. You still friend; become very best together.” Thank goodness. Disaster avoided. I mean, it’s a lie, but it’s a tactful lie. And it worked.

Just in time too, because the regional manager of Subway has reached your little huddle and extended a clammy hand in congratulations. You take it and, cutting off the beginning of what is likely a promotional speech, ask if Satoshi can get Pikachu healed first. The Subway chief acquiesces and you run off with Satoshi.

Pikachu is healed by conventional means and you do your best to rush through the rest of the tournament ceremony. You shake Ron’s, the regional manager of Subway, clammy hand in a weak handshake too many times and listen for at least half an hour to the great deals offered by the return of the $5 Footlong. At the end of the proceedings, you each get a check for $1,000 and a commemorative badge, proclaiming you the winner of the ‘Subway — Eat Fresh! Tournament’.

A few questions QM:
1. Are you planning (or planned) to change some characteristics of Pokemon? Minor stuff like colour. Think it would be cool to see a Black Bisharp or something
2. Are you going to give certain moves to pokemon who normally don't get them? (i.e dragon dance on Garchomp and stuff like that)
3. Have we heard any news relating to those mobsters?
4. How common are joltiks near here?

Good questions, Anon. Here’s what I’m thinking so far.
>1) I was not planning on changing anything like that, but I’d be open to that if that would interest some of y’all. I’m certainly not invested in the color of the Pokemon.

2) I wasn’t planning on that because, as someone who isn’t very big into Pokemon, I feel I might accidentally unbalance the game if I go against the move lists in use. I would be willing to make some specific exceptions if people want them.

>3) You know that organized crime has an established presence in NYC, even if it is way down from its height in past decades. You haven’t heard anything about those specific mobsters, though. Might be worth asking around...

4) Joltik aren’t especially common around NYC, but you’ve heard Mr. Vojvodich, your neighbor who works for the city, complain about them messing with the electrical grid. He might know more about where to find them.

1. I thank it would be cool to see that.
2. If it dosent become too much of a hassle for you than that’s cool
3. Hopefully they don’t rob the pokecenter
4. I know which Pokémon is gonna be our electric type

You tap Satoshi on the shoulder to thank him for coming with you and just, in general, being a good partner. He and his massive grin are still pointed straight at the badge affixed to his lapel. He barely looks up or recognizes you, remaining transfixed by what you assume is his first badge.

Breaking away into the crowd, you try to scope out Al and Agnes, the elderly couple with the Machop and Kirlia; you’d like to find out where they got them. You can hear the geriatric couple long before you see them. Losing that match must have taken a few planks out of their marriage because it seems like the row from your victory never actually ended.

After some minutes standing on the sidelines as they trade insults and recriminations, you finally pick up the courage to speak: “Excuse me...” Your voice is drowned out by, “You sex pervert, should never have married!” You try again and, this time, Al notices you: “Hey, you that young whippersnapper that CHEATED us out of a victory! Well? What do you have to say for yourself?” Agnes rounds on you as well, refocusing his palpable rage from her husband to you.

You softly clear your throat and response, “I won fair and square.”

“What?!”

“I said I didn’t cheat.”

“What?!” This time it is a bit louder. Al has his hand clasped over one ear. It occurs to you that he isn’t incredulous, he’s just part deaf. He can’t hear you.

Raising your own voice to match his, you yell, “I said I didn’t cheat! I won fair and square!”

“Ach! You don’t have to shout!” Al grumbles and looks at his wife, “Kids these days, so rude. No respect for their elders.” She nods in agreement.

Taking a deep breath, you ask what you actually wanted to get to: “Your Kirlia is really remarkable. I’ve never seen a trainer with one. Where did you get it?” You really enunciate each word here.

Agnes looks through you like a hawk. Al rubs his chin, “Yeah, she is a great Pokemon alright. Really great...” You can see Agnes turn her face into a cartoonish frown, “I guess I could tell you where, but you’d have to do me and the missus a favor. You up for hard work like that, skipper?”

You get us enough food for a dozen or so guests and I’ll tell you where I got my Kirlia. And nothing with olives, Agnes hates them.” Agnes shouts, “Hates!” to emphasis the point and sticks out her tongue like a sick child.

Your pocket is plump with a thousand dollars and, other expenses aside, there is more than enough to buy food. One of your neighbors, Mr. Papadopoulos, even manages a restaurant. Thinking it over a bit, this is one of the better favors that you could be asked. You shake Al’s hand and tell him he’s got a deal. Al and Agnes both smile, the first time you’ve seen that express on either of their faces, and Agnes hands you a small card with an address and phone number, remarking, “Saturday at 7PM. Don’t be late.”

The sun is starting to go down in the sky. You look around for Satoshi, but he’s nowhere to be found. Well, you can’t get stuck in Brooklyn, so you head down to the bus station and pay your fare back to Staten Island. On the way from the bus station to your house, you swing by San Juan Grocery (and PokeMart) and, paying out more money that you’ve ever held at any one time, buy 3 Pokeballs from the store.

>Money: $105.50
>Pokeballs: Three (3)

You get home just in time for your mother to be finishing dinner and you enjoy a pleasant meal together, just you, your mother, and Dauttata. Before you put an end to this long day, you decide to finally give Dauttata her own Pokeball. Holding it out in front of you, you open up the new Pokeball, but, to your surprise, she doesn’t seem to want to go in and dodges the beam. You try again; this time she scuttles up your pant leg.
