Welcome to a quest that takes place in the world of pokemon. You live in the region of Dinister, a warm region separated in two halves, south that is arid with plains and semi-deserts, and the northwest that is slightly cooler, but covered in forest. The mainland is split by a large mountain range, Barania, causing this rain shadow.
You live in Palmbeach, a port town in the south, with a beautiful beach at the seaside, and grassy meadows surrounding it. It is somewhat of a resort, but not exclusively so. The dockyards here produce many fine boats, but are somewhat outcompeted when making larger ships.
Like most kids, you wanted to be a pokemon trainer growing up, and while your dad was a ranger for some years when he was younger, neither him or your mom have been the typical trainers in a long while, and as such it took all the while until you were 15 until you were trusted to become a pokemon trainer on your own.
Fortunately for you, your cousin, Jens, was already a quite prolific trainer, and once he got to know that you were becoming a trainer, he offered you a Pokemon. Reasonably, it would be one of his specialization, which is...
>Ground. Like many people in the region, he favours the ground type pokemon, while common, many see their reliability as a boon. (this will improve generalist skill, and make trekking in the southern parts easier.)
>Steel. The defensive behmoths, mostly found in Mount Barania and most can be considered as an anchor in a storm - tough. (this will move you to a more defensive battlestyle, and make your pokemon harder to knock out.)
>Dragon. Rare and powerful, many dragon tamers are among the elite of trainers, but also eccentric due to the time investment in dragon pokemons, many are in awe when seeing high-level dragon pokemons due to their sheer power. (this will move you to an offensive battlestyle, and with more offensive prowess. However, most dragon pokemon take considerable investment. Consider this
"harder-mode")

(whichever you choose, i will randomly roll for what Pokémon's are available in the region for the corresponding type.)

And lastly, what's your name?

Of course.
>And lastly, what's your name?
Jane Oak. Some super distant relationship to the professor.

When Jens visits, you are a little giddy - after all he's a dragon trainer, and you've always found him to be the cool one at Christmas and birthdays. It's been a couple of years since you've met him now, but once he arrives he still greets you with the usual warm smile.
-"I heard you were finally going to head out into the world and become a trainer, took you a while, hah" He says with a little sting, well knowing that your parents kept you back. He became a trainer at 13, about average for when people get their first pokemon on their own. He's in his mid twenties now, so you've really just known him as a trainer.
-"Well, you know my parents, always the protective, yeah" You sigh a little, but quickly regain your composure, after all, this is not the time to be bored. You're getting outa here now!
-"Yeah, but trust me, you'll have to stand on your own feet from now, thankfully, this guy right here will be at your side! She's stubborn, but she's got lots of heart!" Jens explains, and takes out a pokeball, and hands it over to you.
-"Just register it over to your dex, and she'll be yours from now on, Jane" he adds. You stumble for a moment, before fishing out the dex from your thin jacket. The pokeball flashes red in confirmation, and your dex lights up with a "transfer complete" and two numbers, which you assume is Jens' and yours. You feel a little timid as you hold it in your hands, before activating the pokeball.
In a white flash, a Bagon appears. it looks a little confused at first, looking at Jens, and then to you. Still, it seems to trust you enough to stand at your side, and Jens addresses the Bagon to tell her that you are now her trainer.

"That's a bagon, a hardy little one, but proud with an desire to battle. With a drive to be the best, I think you two will get along very well" He said, smiling. "What are you going to do now? I assume you will be heading for the Leauge challenge? If so, I suggest heading to westpoint. The gym there is somewhat of an introduction to the basics of battling, and there should be other new trainers there!"
>NEW POKEMON

The last question is a good one, you haven't really thought that far...
>Westpoint gym should be a good start, after all, Jens has experience.

>Traveling east through the desert should be a good way to toughen up, and there is a gym in Hazelfield too.

>North. You're sick of this dry heat, and long to see the lush forests in northern Dinister.
Oh, and before you forget! You should probably name your Bagon!
>Write in.
(Added an unlabeled map, will fix one with labels a little later

We are at the blue town, in southeast. Westpoint is the red one south of it.

Why it's called westpoint? Its the first of mainland when you are traveling to the west.

"Hey, Travolta" You say to the small dragon pokemon infront of yourself. It peeks up towards you, the glare firm. It holds it for a little bit, before nodding. You're a little suprised at how content the dragon is, but you smile at the Bagon.
"Well, it seems to accept you, and that's a good start. Many dragon pokemon are very adamant in their personality. On the other hand, once they trust you, they will protect you with fierce intent." He pauses a bit, before he continiues; "Well, have you decided where you're going?"
"Yeah, i'm heading north first. I think it would be nice to see the forests, and perhaps even explore Barania too. "
"In that case you will pass by Branford, be sure to stock up on supplies there, you can find a lot of stuff in the markets, and perhaps challenge the psychic gym. Erik is pretty tough, so don't beat yourself up if you lose. The key is strategy, and finesse, or so I heard. Not that I've beat him myself!" he exclaims, and bursts out in a thunderous laughter, more akin to something you'd hear from a roughdry sailor. Frankly, you're a little surprised at the outburst.

Still, you decide that since it's early in the day, you should leave now. You say farewell to your parents, and after a bit of bickering, and some coldness from your side, you manage to get untangled from your parents warm embrace. Jens stays, apparently he wants to catch up with your parents too, considering how long it had been since he was there, you're a little bit glad for your parents sake.

You travel down route 505, keeping Travolta at your side. You're actually surprised how she can match your walking pace with her stubby legs, even in the warm midday sun. still, You feel a little bit off, shouldn't you be battling, catching pokemon and so on?

>Keep going on the road. Not everything can be all exiting
>you know there is a pond quite nearby, perhaps you could pass it by to see if there are any pokemon there?
>just go a bit off-trail, but keep the same path. You and Travolta need to toughen up, aren't ya?

Either case, i need a roll of 1d9, so if someone could do that i'd be great.
I'm heading off for now, gonna meet some friends, but will be back later or tomorrow!

Your mind wanders astray soon enough, and you feel as if you should do the same - After all, its not about the destination, it's the journey there. You remember that there is a small pond, and that it usually attracts pokemon, and with a little luck you might even battle or catch some.

The walk down to the pond takes only a few minutes, and it's easily found due to the trees growing nearby, compared to the relatively dry terrain surrounding it. Once there, you take in the scenery; despite having been there many times before, its quite stunning. You see a couple of buizel at the edge of the water, and you briefly consider approaching them, before you are approached on your own. A nincada creeps out from the bushes beneath a tree, and apparently it's startled by your footfalls. Thankfully, you got your bagon at your side, but before you can even call out what to do, the nincada has sprayed sand at you, lowering your accuracy.

What do you do?
>Well, it's on! fight. Start of with an ember, and keep a distance. (1d6)
>Well, it's on! fight. Have tavolta get in physical range, and use Bite (1d6+2)
>Well, it's on! fight. Keep your distance and intimidate with a leer.
(keep in mind that moves do more or less damage depending on typing and so on)

>Back out, this is not a fight we want (1d10 for running away)
>Other (write-in)

I need a roll of 1d4, to see if we remembered to bring pokeballs as well.
