You glance down at KING BROTHER, who takes a few steps back down the steps of the dingy house you're at the door of. You nod when he's far enough back but can still record you.

You call through Jake Matsumoto's door.

"I heard you were good at moving things from place to place. I have a business proposition."

"Is that right?"

You hear several locks being opened.
Matsumoto peers around the door, he looks you up and own, his eyes widening slightly.

He opens the door all the way

"I'm listening, I guess. What have you heard?"

When you use the TALK option, you need to provide the actual dialog along with it.

This will get his attention, sure, but what are we after? Just wait for him to be distracted and swipe something with dna in it? I'd say "pick up a stray hair", but, uh, he doesn't have much of it.
>>
>>4523143
We also want to look around his home in general. See if we spot any telltale signs of SNATCHERism. USSR themes, sunscreen, etc. So ideally we get his interest, he invites us in to discuss business in more detail. We use that as the opportunity to scope the joint. Feign needing to use the bathroom at some point to access it and see if we find anything incriminating there, and for DNA samples maybe some hair fibers on a comb or something, or skin cells left over on a tooth brush from the gums/tongue/cheeks.

That's my game plan.

"Not out here, get inside."

He steps aside and allows you into his house.

KING BROTHER dims his lights and creeps in after you. He hides behind an old couch. Using KING BROTHER will be hard.
This place is dark. Jake is running a large fan and switches music on as you enter.

"Not by land or air so much but...yeah you did heard it correctly."

Jake does an odd little tidy up where he picks up some bottles and closes a cupboard before realising the place is still a mess.

We should kind of eyeball him a little, give off a vibe like we are contemplating whether or not he's worth fragging here and now. After a short, dead quiet, grin and say, "Why, you're nervous aren't you? I wouldn't doubt it, you look a little worse for wear from what my associates mentioned before. We can spare... some increase in expenses, but you would do well to not get too greedy about it. We can always find another boatsman if need be, but you might not always find another benefactor."

WE should probably then LOOK and SNIFF around a bit more afterwards, as if searching for something to drink or smoke in this hovel. "A toast then, to future endeavours." We might be able to grab a DNA sample off of whatever we get offered. If it flags with false DNA, we could have signs of a SNATCHER, or at least grounds for a scan.

Not 100% sure if this'll pan out, but acting like a middling soft enforcer can probably give KING BROTHER time to search for damning evidence while JAKE is busy dealing with us. Not sure what we should be using KING BROTHER to be looking for, mainly using this to buy time and try to get JAKE on less of an edge.

Ditchwater, what kind of spirits bottles and beer cans are scattered around? Might be a bit of a weird question, but had a few red flags fly up while I was doing chores earlier.

>Matsumoto has the potential to be a SNATCHER, or a SNATCHER's AGENT.

Most of the evidence I thought of is all potential, but I thought I'd make the case for anons smarter than me. The reasoning is as follows:

Jake is 'injured', but playing it off as no big deal, using bandages to cover up the damaged bio-skin. In addition, if he's starting to reek from cancerous growths, he could be trying to cover up the smell by living in a disgusting hovel. It'd be a simple matter to disguise the cancerous smell with rotted food and old beer cans. It'd also explain the heavy reinforcing around the windows if he's trying to prevent entry and light from entering the area. He can also try to explain any SNOW-9 residue involved by his job running Black Boats.

If those spirit bottles are mostly Russian vodka bottles, or the beer cans are Baltikas or Okhotas, they could be more subtle signs pointing to the Russian connection that SNATCHERS tend to be fond of. If so, everything is suddenly much more dangerous than it used to be.

Of course, this could just be rabid paranoia, but thought I'd get it out of my head before things get hairy.

Could kind of play it off as trying to ease tensions during the negotiations.

>>4524088
Hey, rabid paranoia isn't a bad thing in this case. Good catch.
>>
>>4524091

No worries. Gonna be turning it in for a while, so figure I'd add in a Russian toast that we could use if Jake pings more warning signs of having been SNATCHED. "Za uspekh" looks to roughly translate to "For success", and would be appropriate if we are trying to pretend to be in on it too or celebrating a successful deal. Thought I'd get more arrows in the quiver, in case we're already past this part of the investigation by the time I get around to it again tomorrow.
>>
>>4524088

Oh shit, also forgot the fact that Hardbass was playing when "Jake" turned it back on after opening the door and letting us into the apartment. A distinctly Slavic music style. More and more evidence pointing towards a SNATCHER to me. Better get that BLASTER ready guys.

What's King Brother currently doing.
>>
>>4524165
Idea: Agree to show him what we want shipped. He comes with us to the warehouse we're keeping it. That gets him and us out of the apartment while KING BROTHER has free reign to search the place. Once we're been gone say, 10-15 minutes, pretend we've gotten a call saying that we've found another transport broker, we no longer need his services. We part ways, meet up with KING BROTHER, Jake returns home none the wiser.

Thoughts?
>>
>>4524194
Apparently there's no cellphones in the setting.
>>
>>4524195
QM:I am unsure of the status of cell phones in SNATCHER. There being a global disaster in 1991 seems to have given us an alternate history style future.

Gillian doesn't have one in SNATCHER, but in SDATCHER, Jean-Jack seems to have one and his friend CRIS definitely has one. So it's a thing but it's not super common. Just for tech heads and big shots maybe?

Doesn't matter. If you want to pretend to get a call you can use your watch or your cigarette tin and pretend its a phone.

To me, it's a risky plan. But you guys keep surprising me.
>>
>>4524200
What's King Brother currently doing?

QM: Hiding behind the bean bag. You can see him, he can see you. Jake has his back to the bean bag. he's not takin his eyes off you.

>>
>>4524217
QM: Possibly! Just gonna see what others think.
>>
>>4524236
Alright. But instead of pretending we got a call, just ditch him. Or take him out with our belt. We don't actually have to keep up the appearances any longer than necessary.
>>
>>4524283
>>4524236
Wait, I've got a better idea. Bring him somewhere where we know there'll be dogs.
>>
>>4524283
That just doesn't seem like it accomplishes anything. It costs us basically nothing to keep up the deception, whereas ditching him or attacking him would certainly raise suspicions.
>>
>>4524194
I dunno. Even if the plan goes off flawlessly, if KB's search is inconclusive then we'd need to find another excuse to go back to his house, and I think by that point he'd be too pissed off with us to cooperate any further.

I'm getting the feeling that this is our man. Question at this point is, what more evidence do we need to find here that'd get us okayed for a scan warrant? We've gotta be pretty close by now, what with the hardbass, the blocking out of light and the smell. Speaking of...

>>4524236
Do we know what the cancerous growths smell like? If we do, how close is the smell in here to the smell of them?
>>
>>4525039
For a scan warrant we need evidence that points to him as a SNATCHER. Can't just be that he's got his windows boarded up. Stuff that's SNATCHER specific, like large amounts of sunscreen, rotting smell of flesh, etc.

So far we don't have those. Yeah the place smells bad, but it's filled with old food and isn't clean, which could easily cover that. King Brother's investigation would hopefully turns it up; while I understand being worried about not getting another chance if this doesn't work out, I don't really see how we might find things that he would not; he's the one with advanced sensors and shit, not us. I say we trust our partner.

"Now?"

You nod.

Jake mutters and pulls on some shoes.

"Alright fine."

As you both step outside, Jake closes the door. After locking the locks, he pulls a small remote from his left pocket and presses the single button on it. A small pop and a hissing noise can be heard from inside the apartment.

You nod to Tsuda and charge back out of the FAMILY MART. Jake is waiting for you and looks just about done. You put on your best flustered panic and tell him that the cops are closing in. Not just on your current location but on his place too! Even after being given a fistful of bills and directions to a hotel, Jake looks absolutely furious.

"You ruined me! You incompetent bitch! You think I can't smell a set up?!"

Jakes train of thought is derailed completely by a POLICE HOVERCAR pulling into street your on and flashing its strobes and sirens.

Jake screams

"OH SHIT! She's not kidding!!!"

Jake bolts down the street wailing as the POLICE CAR comes to stop near you.

The cop's HOVER CAR is incapable of true flight but has a jump engine that allows it to clear obstacles and traffic up to one story height. Also, with strobes and sirens it gets around pretty fast.

Not like a TURBOCYCLE, but not bad. It's kind of fun being a passenger.

As the door opens, you can finally hear it over the sounds of the music. Scratching, whimpering, the piteous rattling of cages.

You lower your BLASTER, furious and disgusted.

"This guy was also running a PUPPY MILL?! Was he trying to go for some sort of 'piece of shit lifetime achievement award?! That's not a real thing!! Someone should tell him!"

KING BROTHER hides behind your legs

"O-o-ooooh..I'm not the biggest fan of dogs but this is truly terrible. We should definitely let the officer outside know and also contact Wakayama Animal Protection."

"Nice acronym. Hey! Wait a minute! Would a SNATCHER ever be routinely near this many dogs?"

"Under no circumstances. It would explain a lot though. The wound on his arm must have been caused by one of these dogs, and the foul odour is simply the state of this house, exacerbated by the unhygienic conditions these dogs are in. The Russian music and vodka must simply be a preference of his."

"And the sunscreen?"

"It could simply be that he kept on buying a tube for the rare occasions he needed it, while forgetting he already had some. That would explain why he has three bottles and they're all open, with one being expired."

"I see. So Mr Matsumoto's just kind of a slob?"

"Entirely likely. Make no mistake, we are still approved for a SCANNING WARRANT for whenever we next see him, but the amount of dogs here combined make the chances of him being a SNATCHER quite unlikely."

"It's not over yet, though."

You do a small hop to get Bob's attention (it works).

"I gotta get back it, Bob. Hopefully next time we talk it'll be over some hot noodles, not a cold body."

He does a small laugh and nods, waving good bye.

You attempt a sexy walk back to the TURBOCYCLE, apparently forgetting your coat covers your butt, so it just looks a little weird.

You pop the gullwings and slump into the TURBOCYCLE.
You sigh and rub the bridge of your nose and sigh.

KING BROTHER nestles into the passenger seat and does a cat-headbutt on your arm.

"Searching can be cyclic partner, but we're closing in I am sure of it. None of this has been a waste."

You nod.

"Apt 18, Maison Baguette, 150 Bridge Road, Korea Town, K District. Elmo Jeong, right?"

You fly the TURBOCYCLE to Korea Town once more. Parking is getting easier, so you just set it down near the Maison Baguette Apartments.

"These apartments are the nicest so far."

"Not having been on fire recently is a huge selling point. I'd never really taken stock but mine's still nicer, huh?"

"You work a risky job. JUNKER is here to look after you."

"Proper."

You walk up the steps and point around the nearby rooms. Here we go, eighteen.

>>4537307
Knock, ask to speak with Elmo Jeong. Be straight with him, tell him why we're here and that we would like to search his apartment in relation to an ongoing hunt for a SNATCHER. People are required to help JUNKERS in their investigations iirc, with the main exception being that it's illegal to scan them without permission or warrant. So while he might be upset at us doing this at like, 1-2 AM (and fair enough, it's not our fault it's always nighttime in Noir media) I think he's likely to cooperate.

Obviously just because it seems unlikely this is our guy doesn't mean we should let our guard down. But yeah, I think being up front about things is the best course of action here.
>>
>>4537421
wielding our authority like a sledgehammer it is then
this is why cops need a warrant for shit like this
>>
>>4537443
I mean if he wants to say "No you can't come in" that's his prerogative, though it makes him look guilty. I don't see much point in lying to him, if being up front about our business is "using authority like a sledgehammer" then I don't know what to tell you. But if you want to come up with an alternative, that we're a light night complimentary cleaning service, go right ahead. Personally I find that more morally troubling than a legal house search, but you do you.
>>
>>4537443
This kind of stuff is subject to local law, I guess? Over here, fitting the description of a suspect is enough to justify at least a vehicle search.

>>4537476
>it makes him look guilty
Wait, no. Upholding your rights is not and should not ever be considered a sign of guilt, same as pleading the fifth in trial. As (quasi-)law enforcement we can't take that view.
>>
>>4537476
Would it be better to go with asking about unusual activity in the area as there's been some reports of suspicious behavior? Ask if he's had any issues with unruly neighbors or if there's been strange new faces in the building recently?

Doesn't seem like there's a need to talk about a SNATCHER just yet.
>>
>>4537559
But he's the one we suspect might be a SNATCHER, what would asking him about *other neighbors* accomplish? He's a suspect because the JORDAN facial recognition software pulled him up as a likely partial match to the SNATCHER. That's why we want to investigate his apartment, to see if there's any signs that indicate he may be a SNATCHER.

>>4537558
I had a big three paragraph thing trying to explain my view and then I realized this thread isn't the place for that debate. Suffice it to say, I don't think Bast thinks like that but it certainly would make me, a thread participant, more suspicious of this guy if he refused to cooperate, and would indicate to me that he was hiding something whether that be case related or not.
>>
>>4537597
>would indicate to me that he was hiding something
Yeah, but that just isn't true. I don't actually have anything illegal going on in my home, but I still wouldn't let a cop in my home without a warrant, just because I know the shit they get up to if you let them. But yeah, you're right, this isn't the place for this.

>what would asking him about *other neighbors* accomplish?
Just put him on alert, most likely. Yeah, unless it gets us access to check for sunscreen and a DNA sample and stuff, I don't see how that will help. I'd like to avoid going in half-baked like we did last time.
>>
>>4537421
Sounds good to me. I'm a fan of the direct approach - although it's kinda a moot point now that we're buddy-buddy with the cops and have been routinely snitching people out, we're not actually a cop, so theoretically people we're investigating shouldn't be worried about us finding non-SNATCHER illegal shit.

Oh, I would have been here. Just winding down for bed and watching cartoons. My husband can attest to this."

"Just two more things: One can I pet your dog?"

Elmo chuckles
"You bet. get in there."

You crouch down next to Amborgor and ruffle him proper. He leans into it and wags his tail making it smack against the floor.

As you lower the security and raise the drivers side gullwing on the TURBOCYCLE a note fall out of the cracks.

You pick it up and sigh through your nose.

Not the first time you've got a note like this. First time since you became a JUNKER though.

KING BROTHER bumps against your leg.

"You okay, partner?"

"Yeah. Hold onto this as evidence yeah? I'm gonna assume it's clean of DNA."

KING BROTHER beeps a few times.

"Correct.. Sorry."

"It's alright, bud. We have work to do."

You both climb into the TURBOCYCLE

I assume we need Jordan to find out where Harbour works. Also we can get Moses to analyze the paper and the ink.

I assume threats aren't the usual Snatcher MO. And Bubastis isn't the name we have on our badge, right?
>>
>>4543545
I figured that woulda been too convenient, heh.

>>4543564
Seconded. I was thinking the same thing about "Who would know our name?" and the first thing that comes to mind is Tsuda, but otoh we may have said it to one of the suspects was earlier and not remember it. I wonder if it's worth trawling through this thread and the last to see who we explicitly gave our name to...

You know in the video game, the other JUNKER's daughter plays a role in the plot, so my first thought was that the note mighta been left by Tsuda's daughter since she hates JUNKERs, as an attempt to just generally fuck with us/get us to not be bothering her dad. But she's housebound and also doesn't like her dad so that probably isn't it. But it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the note. It feels like it's a red herring, since as we know threats aren't really what SNATCHERS do.

Another thing I'd like to do at HQ is ask what the rest of the team thinks of this. Doesn't hurt to get a second and third opinion on things. Maybe as the Chief what she thinks of our progress so far; she's experienced and might have some additional ideas for avenues of investigation for us.
>>

We only have Tsuda's word for it, tho. Teenagers tend to be... teenagers, so that might not actually be true.

As you walk through the door, BAGPIPES is briefly more fascinated by you but gives you the all clear.

You walk to the main area

[ESCALATOR DOWN TO MOSES]
[TRAVELLATOR TO OPERATIONS, BUNKS and DETECTIVE ROOM]

You absent mindedly whistle the same old timey tune as Tsuda.

[TRAVELLATOR TO OPERATIONS, BUNKS and DETECTIVE ROOM]
Let's head to the DETECTIVE ROOM and pull up Harbour's work address.
>>
Sorry for the double post, but here's a very unlikely but nonetheless unpleasant line of thinking: could the girlfriend the PI referred to before he got minced be Kyoko, who Tsuda had an affair with? It's not uncommon for people who are suspicious that their partner is having an affair to hire a PI to investigate them, and that'd scan with both what the PI said and the SNATCHER's reaction to being found out.

The other thing is the note - this could also point towards Tsuda, as to me it looked like someone writing with their non-dominant hand to disguise their handwriting, and Tsuda's handwriting is the only one we'd recognise. So I'd say while we're in the detective room we should analyse the ink from Tsuda's pen and compare it to the ink on the note (although it is unlikely that it'd be the same pen, as Tsuda would have to have returned to HQ, grabbed the pen, written the note, gone BACK to HQ and put it back, which would make a lot less sense than just buying a pen and binning it after writing the note, especially since he knows he's a suspect).

Like I said, both very unlikely, but possibly worth keeping in mind.
>>
>>4544428
Hmmm, interesting. Not to dissuade you from pursuing this, but why would someone have hired a PI to look into Tsuda? He had an affair with Kyoko, sure, but that was in the past. And his own wife's in a coma right now, she it's *probably* not her. I guess maybe if Kyoko got into a relationship with someone else and then they were paranoid and hired the guy? Just seems a bit far fetched. But, worth looking up Koyko in the JORDAN database.

Again, it's an interesting thread that's worth looking into but I am curious as to how these things fit with it.
>>
>>4544442
Very good points - I guess the only candidate we know of would be his daughter out of spite, but that seems like a pretty weak motivation. Similarly, like you said he mentioned that he'd lost touch with Kyoko; I guess he could be lying, but there's no particularly good reason to assume he was.

It's not a strong or likely theory by any means, but I felt like I might as well put it out there while it was on my mind.
>>
>>4544454
Yeah. And it could still be Tsuda, the PI might have found out about Kyoko and assumed they were still together, but the reason for why someone hired a PI to investigate him is different than what you suspect. I think checking out the note with forensics is a smart idea.

Not to mention he'd have to get past Bagpipes, and the boss said she'd pretty much trap him in the office for long enough for a SNATCHER to fry. Speaking of notes... have we made sense of the ones we found yet?

You decide toy review you notes

"Okay, let's see what we have here..."

KING BROTHER opens up his evidence compartment and hands you the NOTES.

"Alright. Not the first not we found, but easily the most complicated. Apparently the first part means 'a mirror' according to Tsuda."

"Third place, is traditionally awarded with a bronze medal. So third place is bronze. Hot sand becomes glass. One thing that was originally made of bronze but is now made of glass is a mirror."

"I thought robots sucked at puzzles!"

'Once I have the answer I can make sense of it retroactively."

"Great.."

"And then there's that strange shape on the same note. I tried running it through the street directory but, by itself their are too many matches for that shape for it to limit our search."

"Moreover, what does 'viva' mean here?"

"Does it make any sense backwards? AVIV?"

"No. Not really. next note."

"Not US but the M"

"Both notes written by Lester Godwin. Something to do with his case. This note is torn, so it's definitely not the whole message. The way it's written suggests that the US part is part of an acronym or something and the kerning on 'them' makes it look like its 'the' followed by a word that begins with 'm'"

"There is a lot that could be. I wonder how far Lester had gotten in his case."

"Well, he almost certainly found a SNATCHER. Makes me wonder about his employers. Next note."

"Someone who knows your name.."

"Not that that would be hard to find. But it is curious. Curiouser still, to me this handwriting looks like someone deliberately writing with their non dominant hand. So it could be someone whose handwriting I would be familiar with OR someone who knows their handwriting is easily attainable."

"It wouldn't be hard for ex-INTERPOL like you to match someone based on their handwriting would it?"

"Not at all. It's how I spotted this was someone deliberately trying to hide it."
>>

>>

Oh, now that I know that the "third place" part is also about a mirror, then it's simple. Do the search again, but with the image mirrored. (Also I thought mirrors used to be silver?)
>>
>>4544771
Oh, and "viva" can also mean "hurray", "cheer", "alive" or "live". I have a feeling that if one of the results is a live music place, that might well be it.

Tsuda is an experimental Snatcher, able to imitate human emotions to previously unseen extent to better camouflage himself. But he imitated emotions so well he ended up really experiencing them. He's really regretting accidentally putting his wife into a coma with SNOW-9, and he really fell in love with Kyoko. It'll turn out he was the one who gave Kyoko the idea to surprise Ueminami with a dog at work, because he hated how Ueminami treated Kyoko and wanted a pretext to kill him. The ultimate conflict of the quest is supposed to be whether a bodysnatched copy of a human is as real as the original.

Generally clean. Respectable. Very modern and western. Paving stones and smooth concrete. Looks a little like houses back home, honestly. The house has a stone fence and a metal gate. The gate has been unlocked for you.

[DOOR]
There is a metal screen door, with a wooden door on the other side.

[INTERCOM]
Near the door. it has a buzzer function and a microphone function.

[YARD]
White gravel and some selective shrubbery. A little in need of maintenance, even though it's obviously designed to be low maintenance.

Wrought Iron. Classy. It has two numpads to the side of it and is about 2 meters high. it has spikes at the top. Huh. Three of the spikes are bent down. About 140 degrees.

[GRAVEL]
It's harder to see in this light or at a casual glance, but on closer inspection and with KING BROTHER's flashlight you are able to see it is displaced in many locations. Some at the side of the house some down the front. There are two more disturbed patches down the side of the house. Like someone was at the window and then moved suddenly. The two marks in the gravel near the fence are not as long but they are deep. Some of the gravel has been powderised.

The spikes are bent away from the house, towards the street. It loos as though someone bent them to avoid being injured on them. They haven't left finger prints or DNA, apparently. i guess whoever it was was wearing gloves.

[GRAVEL]
The spread around the powdered gravel, suggests the divots were made by someone moving away from the house. The destruction of the gravel wasn't made just by weight but by a forceful push into the ground.

QM: Bizarrely, not significantly. It's uncertain as to how they manage not to be. Because they always self destruct and kind of dissolve, their construction remains a mystery. The ineffectiveness of most portable weaponry (except for a very well aimed shot from a BLASTER) has led most experts to assume they are made of an allot unknown to present science.

So you're saying it's not earth-shaking teenage anger?
>>
>>4546904
Oh man, you know what the worst part of not being a SNATCHER is? Having to sleep, missing this. Okay, so it seems like it's possible a SNATCHER was here looking in on Sadako. She's not dead which is, you know, good, but this is really worrying. I think as soon as we're done talking with Sadako we need to call Tsuda and tell him about this. I doubt he's the SNATCHER since if he wanted to check in on her he could have just opened the gate normally since it's his house. I don't know, should we consider moving her to another one of the safe houses?

>>4546906
What does her shirt say? It's hard to read with the jittering.
>>
>>4546976
Ohohoho. What if Lester was hired by Snatchers?
>>
>>4546982
So, one SNATCHER hired him to spy on another SNATCHER? That's... weird. Unless...

You know if we're going with the assumption that this is going to involve a SNATCHER that's somehow genuinely gained human emotions and free will, I wonder if our SNATCHER developed the hugh mann emotions, got a crush or something on Sadako. He hires Lester to look into her. Lester tries to shake down the SNATCHER for more pay, mentioned his "girlfriend" ie the girl he's interested in. SNATCHER loses it, murders Lester. Now that the PI's gone, he goes over to peek in on Sadako himself. He doesn't attack or cause significant damage to get into the property, watches for a while, then leaves.

What do you fellow threadgoers think?
>>
>>4547029
God, human yanderes are already bad enough...
>>
>>4547043
Oh no, it's worse than that. The SNATCHER that gained human emotions gained *teenage human emotions.* He's getting ready to come out onto the lawn with a boom box held overhead and sing.
>>

wasn't the PI investigating Kyoko? that's why we found her address (sort of) in his note
>>
>>4547095
I'm not sure why he would have her address coded though if that's the case?
>>
>>4547029
Shit, this theory makes a worrying amount of sense. I wasn't originally on board with the human emotions thing but that's a pretty solid case for it.

>>4547130
>>4547095
I guess we can deduce that the SNATCHER is in some way connected to Kyoko - we can cross out a family member being snatched, as the only relative listed is her deceased husband. Not sure off the top of my head what other candidates there could be, but I guess visiting her will hopefully shed some light on that.
>>
>>4546976
Looks like the main bit of her shirt says 50 Kaitenz, which is a Japanese rock band. Explains the music. Can't make out the bit below - something forever, it looks like.

It's odd to say of a teenage girl, but you can really see how she's Tsuda's daughter. She's pretty tall and has a certain irritated , bordering on pouty intelligence and cynicism to her face. Especially the eyes. You notice she seems to be appraising you right back.

>>
>>4548176
>I thought Tsuda is estranged from his daughter for some reason.
According to him, his daughter doesn't like him because he's always busy with work and they don't get along super well. But they're not estranged.

I also think that we should politely excuse ourselves ASAP to the bathroom and make a video call to Tsuda and let him know what we found. If the SNATCHER is keeping an eye on his daughter then he and the Chief need to know.
>>
>>4548453
>I also think that we should politely excuse ourselves ASAP to the bathroom and make a video call to Tsuda and let him know what we found. If the SNATCHER is keeping an eye on his daughter then he and the Chief need to know.
It's not THAT urgent, we're here right now.
>>
>>4548546
Yes, we are, and I'd rather not have to fight off a SNATCHER with someone around that we need to worry about protecting. Also there's the chance that we could lose a fight with a SNATCHER, and if we do before reporting back then it'll be a while until it's noticed that something has happened.

I'm just saying, if I was a dad and I found out that someone knew my kid was in danger and just sat around for minutes on end chatting with them before telling me about it, I'd be pissed at them.
>>
>>4548551
It's not like Tsuda isn't getting the info, King shares it with his Navigator. It's just not enough to warrant a call, is all.
>>
>>4548591
He's not though? He doesn't get info from us anymore than we get info from him. I mean, have we been receiving a stream of data on his moves? No. Our activities are sent back to HQ, but that doesn't mean that they're going to immediately act on them.

Again, if I was a dad I wouldn't accept "Well she wasn't being attacked *right now* so I didn't think I needed to tell you that there's signs of her being stalked" as an acceptable excuse. Hell, let me turn the question around on you: why are you opposed to doing this? We can still talk to Sadako and examine the house after we call Tsuda. What is there to lose by doing so?
>>
Its all good anons. I'm not gonna fuck you on this one.

I'll find a good good comprimise
>>
>>4548696
Oh I don't think we'll get screwed over in game terms. It's just my own thoughts on what order I think make the most sense in-character for Bast to do. Clearly, at least one person thinks differently, and that's alright. But I appreciate you always being pretty good about not fucking over players in your quests. Real good for you.
>>
>>4548621
>He doesn't get info from us anymore than we get info from him.
Not quite. From last thread:
>>4504530
>"Bubastis...do you want me to cease all manual data sharing with Tsuda?"
>"Not all of it. But don't transmit that he was one of the results. I'm not gonna suspect him until I know more - but in the unlikely event he IS a SNATCHER - we're going to make things a lot worse if he thinks we're closing in on him.."
I could quote a few more posts, but the gist of it is that KING BROTHER and SPEAKER BOX are constantly exchanging data. Bubastis herself hasn't been receiving a stream of data on his moves, but KING has, and he would have alerted us of anything untoward.
>why are you opposed to doing this?
Mostly because it means leaving Sadako hanging and it would be rude. But I'm not really hard against it, I just think there's no point.

While Sadako is rambling, she sort of spaces out you tentatively glance down at KING BROTHER.

"King, any data on that cigarette butt?"

Sadako snaps out of her logorrhoea

"OH MY GOD"
Her pupils dilate. She seems to have only just noticed KING BROTHER
She crouches down

Sadako pats KING BROTHER

Tsuda is quite alarmed but more confused.
"Whoa whoa. What? I KNOW I set the proximity alarm before I left. Then again it is MUCH older than the gate alarm. It might have malfunctioned. Can you take a look at it?"

You and KING BROTHER wander down to the gate where you saw the two number pads.

"The one on the left is the gate. That's supposed to be deactivated because Sadako was expecting you. She knows the code for that. But she DOESN'T know the proximity alarm. Or she's not SUPPOSED to. Is there something wrong with it.?"

You look at the right number pad.

"No, Tsuda it just says its currently not activated. It hasn't been tampered with."

"SHit. SHIT. I must not have set it when I left. I was SO SURE. Only me and Chie should know that code. I guess there's no harm in you knowing..."

Tsuda, not wanting to speak out loud, holds up a piece of paper with '43893' written on it.

"Punch that into the number pad and that will reactivate the proximity alarm. It sends a signal straight to SPEAKER BOX if someone gets within 5 metres of the house. I can't believe I forgot to set it."

Tsuda rubs his eyes.

"Stupid old man...what if something had happened.."

Tsuda regains his composure.

"Aibo, I know I've been asking a lot of you but I need you to make sure Sadako is safe. Tsuda isn't a Snatcher, but there's a Snatcher!Tsuda getting ready to nab him. He's studying Tsuda's life, stalking his daughter, smoking the cigarette brand he smoked until just recently, quite possibly interacting with his ex-lover. Having Tsuda's DNA and appearance already.

And how! Many of us were convinced they were estranged, and he made it sound like she hated him. And he also mentioned his life insurance, which is a bit concerning, now that I think about it. Should we actually tell Sadako about this?

>>4550889
>"The day of all those factory explosionsin Moscow?"
So they lost their base AND their primary informant on the same day? Talk about bad luck.
>>
>>4550990
Regarding the life insurance thing, that's not anything special for a JUNKER iirc. Everyone has really good life insurance for the job. And it is a dangerous job, so I didn't think there was anything out of the ordinary about him mentioning it.
>>
>>4550999
It was the context that worries me. As in, he was thinking about how to get enough money to move Sadako where there was no SNOW-9, and then life insurance came up. I dunno.
>>
>>4551014
Hmm. Usually life insurance doesn't pay out for suicide, but otoh with a dangerous line of work like this he might unnecessarily endanger himself. Yeah, I see what you mean. Probably should let Sadako know she could tone it down a little.

Not to mention we could also let him know we're willing to help him afford it. I mean, JUNKERS get paid pretty well, we can probably spare some of our paycheck to help out our partner.

"So you switched your brand right around the factory explosions? Maybe this SNATCHER had to work off of outdated information? That's why it's stalking you more now, to get up to date info before... finishing the job."

Tsuda frowns

"I'm not convinced I'M being stalked. If we're to assume the SNATCHERs for me and Ueminami were made at the same time. That would mean he was following me for a YEAR without learning more about me OR me noticing. Even if this SNATCHER sucks at their job, I like to think I don't. Or wait...do you think the SNATCHER of me is new? That's possible but then that could mean there's one of you too..."

Tsuda sighs and scratches his head

It's cool my dude. It's still perfectly parsable. You take care of yourself alright? Make sure you drink plenty of water.

Shrug. "Maybe you were initially being stalked around the same time as Ueminami, but then when the control centers were destroyed it somehow disabled the SNATCHER that was assigned to you. Then somehow it was reactivated recently and resumed its mission. Or maybe you're right and it's a new one. I don't know. All I do know is, we both need to be extra careful."

My instinct is that we should, once we're done inspecting the house and speaking with Sadako, take her back to HQ. Even if we changed the alarm, that's not really gonna stop a determined SNATCHER.
>>
>>4551108
>that could mean there's one of you too
There are no reports of a female SNATCHER, so let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. But I'll be careful.
And, well, look. I'm not entirely convinced of this either, but it made more sense to tell you all this than just keep it to myself if there's any chance of it helping you, so there it is.

Just in case, when have you last talked with Kyoko? I want to check whether someone is stalking her too."

Tsuda folds his arms and sighs
"Makes me wish we knew more about how the control centers work. If he was just lying somewhere dormant for most of the last year he's awfully lucky no one found him, but given that I haven't seen or heard anything about a guy who looks just like me in all this time, I'd say they're keeping their head down pretty severely."

"They might be disguising themselves."

"it's be easier at halloween. people dress up."

"Gives them a limited window, though..."

Tsuda lowers his head

"Not since the funeral. She said if she ever thought she could talk with me again, that she would call me. I wasn't to visit or call her or anything before she was ready. It was hard, but...I respected it."

You and Tsuda exchange a final nod of understanding as you end the call. You run a hand through your hair and smile strongly down at KING BROTHER.

"Well, back at it partner."

KING BROTHER CHIRPS and does a little nod

"We're close, Bast. I can feel it in my sub-routines."

You re-enter the Tsuda household.
Sadako stands up and pauses her game as you enter.

"Everything cool?"

""Your father asked me to check up on windows and such. He's freaking out a bit."

Sadako slumps onto the couch and sighs.

"Aight. Do what you gotta."

>LOOK
[THE ROOM WE'RE IN]

[SOFA]
Looks soft and inviting, albeit peppered with crumbs.

[TELEVSION]
A pretty recent model. A lot of ports for the back, advanced cooling systems. Made for gaming.

"Man, your dad's really trying to keep you happy with some of this gear, huh?"

"It's not like he's not enjoying it. He only just got into consoles, but he's having a blast."

[AREA]
Sadako is doing some serious NEET living here. But she is consolidating her trash. Most of her garbage is stuffed into one empty jumbo bag of red hot cheetos.

"I detect no arthropods in this area, despite considerable amounts of organic detritus in this area."

"Are you kidding? I HATE bugs. This is mostly clutter not actual food scrap. You would not believe how many precautions I take. Like, for real I hate insects."

"Your dad said you were smart and he was right."

[CONSOLE]
Oh hey, its the SONY Plash Speed 7. Nice. It's the size of a small dog, but such power!

[BOOK CASE]
Mostly manga in this one.

"He is up to date with ONE PIECE."

"You know, I've heard it's good but at this stage it's so long the idea of getting into it is just intimidating."

[DISKS]
"He has a lot of solid media. Old school. Not really surprising."

"Yeah, there's some home movies in there and stuff dad recorded off the TV because it never got an official release. Games and stuff. Also he doesn't trust subscription and stream only services."

"Don't blame him."

"You two get along despite the age gap, huh?"

You shrug.

"I suppose, yeah."

[SHAMISEN]

"Huh. Do you play?"

"Not really. Mom di..does."
