/qst/ - Quests

One moment they held the power to change nature itself, the next they are sealed away, intended to be kept in the void until they went insane. Forced to sit here for all eternity pounding against a sealed tomb, unable to even succumb to starvation or illness.

They try to summon minions to raze a army that can break the seal, but instead of the usual intelligent creatures all that comes from the summoning circles are animal-istic, diminutive, and magic-wielding.
They acted so curiously, maybe it would be better to let this play out while they get themselves situated in their new environment. Maybe they can grow into minions who can actually stand a chance against
some half-rate group of adventures...

Welcome to Beyond the Door Evo!

This is going to be a fantasy based Evo-Game with a steadily expanding map and a QM controlled NPC (though they might listen to suggestions via events if you bring up a interesting idea)

At the center of the starting map is a dimensional door covered in a few ruins, it gives off light and heat in a manner similar to a sun, and sits half a kilometer up from the Highlands.
The "Void-Rock" shown on the map is a dark-colored organic looking porous rock that expands outward from the center in every direction for what seems to be forever.

Temperature: 50°F (10°C)
Light Level: Light level goes from 0-20, with 0 being total darkness, and 20 being light enough to damage unprotected eyes.

Center: 15
Inner Rim: 8
Outer Rim: 3

Magic exists in a similar manner to most other elements, and exists naturally in a gaseous form all around the environment.
Both the Terabo and Rotid are able to naturally siphon the magic out of the air and convert it into Mana (liquid magic) from Miasma (Gaseous Magic) via a process called thaumosynthesis.

Every starting creature can use mana, but non-thaumosythesis capable creatures must get it either through eating Mana filled creatures or items.

Rules:
- No spamming, try to wait for someone else to evolve a creature before posting another evolution
- Do not evolve the same line more than twice in a row, I would like to discourage people from favoritism for certain species
- The Overlord character is going to act mostly as a free agent and not be played much outside of world events and such, you are free to have a specific creature/species interact with them but the focus should be on evolution for now

How to Play:
- Open an image of a species in the editor of your choice
(Use something that doesn't leave a blurry line, like a pencil tool)
-Illustrate a evolutionary change to that species
-Save as .PNG! Anything else is going to effect the quality negatively
-Post your new species in the thread with a brief description of what change you added and why.
-Indicate what generation your creature is. (The starting organisms are Gen 0)
-A creatures size or name aren't required, but strongly recommended and encouraged.
- Link back to the creature you evolved so we can establish evolutionary lines.

The Nakk is a fuzzy climbing and burrowing creature, has moderately good hearing and excellent low-light eye-sight.
Channels magic to change the density of its bones to help dig through stone and increase its jump height/distance. However keeping the bones at a non-normal density causes deformities and/or bone loss.

Hu'tes are two-headed slithering creatures that can sense vibrations through the nubs on its body, as well as hear through the small fins on the sides of its heads.
Can phase into a gaseous form to squeeze through tight passages and increase speed, staying in gaseous form for too long causes deformities and/or muscle loss.

Zomem are quick six-legged scavengers, its strongest sense is taste, though it can also roughly detect light sources with its eye spots.
Uses magic to decrease the size (while increasing the density) of its food so it can gorge itself between meals. If it eats too much it can imobilize itself, or tire itself out by using too much magic.

In the far north-east of the world, there is a stretch of dark rimland; it lies behind the great delta and beyond the central mountains, a quiet and inaccessible region tucked away out of sight. This place is the Cluthian Climes, and already some unique species have begun to evolve.

The chonky rotid has become the dominant plant here. The key to its success to become even more broad, growing a wide, floppy cap which stretches far out from the stem. The cap of a chonky rotid overlaps with those of its neighbours, trapping pockets of air which insulate the plants, keeping them a little warmer.

As the chonky rotid is a larger species than its ancestor, the nakk has evolved to keep up, becoming the nacht. The nacht has a longer, more flexible tail with a greater range of upward motion, and a bigger claw on the end of it. This versatile tail has several practical uses for herbivory: to topple small rotids, to break the caps off larger ones, and to tear pieces off ones larger still.

The xomem has developed a depression in its headplate, which hosts mucus exuded by the skin. This mucus accumulates odours into its substance, gathering useful information about the environment -- when the xomem licks this "scent bath", it's able to taste these odours and receive a much more detailed understanding of its environs than by tongue-smelling. Because of the heightened risk of infection, the xomem incorporates less carrion in its diet than its ancestors, replacing the shortfall with egg theft from both the nacht and its own species.

QM are the magics the creatures can wield static or can they evolve with time?
I have no idea how magic works in your setting and if it operates on hard or soft rules.
>>
>>4523940

Magic can evolve over time with creatures, the two hard rules is that all magic must relate to either Element Manipulation (aka the magic must effect something already there and as a result, displace that element slightly; like puffs of air or creating a shell of hard rock around something)

or Density Manipulation, which also effects the physics on whatever you are manipulating, increasing or decreasing size would cause lower or higher density, super dense materials would create their own miniature gravity, ect.

The Overlord waves their hand, creating dips and gutters in the mountains to the East, allowing for small lakes to form as the surrounding rock grows taller and colder due to lack of light.
They then go and sit cross legged facing Baba'guar from the northern tip of the center lake, becoming very still in a meditative posture.

The Slu'ge has coated itself in a layer of reflective crystal. While normally this would seriously impede it's mobility, it's overly active magic means that the crystal is as pliable as any other part of it's body.
When laying flat on the ground, it resembles a puddle of water, which lets it lure in unsuspecting prey.
Due to it's low density, it's about six times as big as it's ancestor despite being just as lightweight.

Forgot to mention, the silt beaches are a result of the water levels growing and shrinking around the large bodies of water, as well as being deposited from the fast moving rivers.

These developed shaggy ears to defend their extremites from the cold; those of the males grow into tall, golden plumes which indicate that the bearer is sexually mature. For this reason they are called the Lucian nakks, after Lucius Verus. The Lucian nakk, the woolly nakk, and their common ancestor are not quite clearly defined species, maintaining something of a hybridisation continuum throughout the south-west.

Their main food source is the gnome bell, a more streamlined descendant of >>4523825 -- with a less exposed cap, it's not as prone to damage in landing from a fall.

As far as I can recall as QM there is no resource that is a reflective surface, nor a crystal, so that part of the evo is going to have to be ignored. The concept of it self-liquidizing and becoming a ambush predator is possible, but not that huge of a increase in size, I can see it being around 10cm at most due to most creatures being lightweight because of size.

>>4524010
If you change the eyes on this evo to basic eye-spots I can allow both this evo and its predecessor , but in its current state it basically developed eyes out of nothing, at least change it to simple dot eyes to imply a simplistic eye-spot.

A mutation in the first-generation terabo living on the southwest rim, in that region which has been earlier named The (Southwest) Reaches, causes it to produce a salt along with the dirt.

Small animals approach the saltyterabo and lick off this valuable mineral; when the time comes for the explosion of the saltyteragbo's spore pod, the spores are often flung onto one of its benificaries, which will transport them elsewhere. Evolving a unique method of spore distribution allows them to maintain a population without being overwhelmed by the spore clouds; still, they are very rare compared to the ubiquitous >>4524038.

>no resource that is a reflective surface, nor a crystal
It doesn't need special resources from the outside world to become reflective; in the real world there is a spider that makes itself reflective using guanine - a compound that every single living creature has in abundance because it's commonly found in DNA.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thwaitesia_argentiopunctata

>but not that huge of a increase in size
Well the reason it became a liquid in the first place was because it's density decreased, but now that I think about it decreasing the density to 1/6 it's normal value would probably be too much, so you can change it to 10 cm rather than 30.

>change it to simple dot eyes to imply a simplistic eye-spot
It can be just an eyespot for now but I'd like to keep the look, it looks cooler than just a dot
>>
>>4524038
hmmm the dry spores would probably float ontop of the water like in real life but i expect blasting terabo to more likely sink. so another food source for any animal that would live near the water
and i had a idea for the overlord as mixing water and spores would possibly produce like a soup to be eaten directly from the water or a dough if the spores can form these small gluten strings, but well there would be no real fuel to burn so he would need to eat soggy raw dough for years to come
>>
>>4524066
Its cool that there is a real-life example of a animal producing a reflective coating, though the example you gave was of a specialized type of webbing and not crystals, which is a valid enough explanation to put the lad on the tree.

We can keep the current look as long as it is labeled as a eye-spot, I just didn't want to set a precedent for being able to evolve 'proper' eyesight in one evo.

I will ask to add a bit more of a explanation as to how the evolution happen in the future though, as just saying "it evolves X" doesn't really mean anything if we aren't given a reason as to why it evolves something

Though it is otherwise weaker. Even more than before they prefer to hide rather than attack, or rely on ambush tactics against weak creatures.
They have also finally learned to upchuck their food and keep it held in their long tongues in cases where they must quickly shrink after a meal. No more exploding.
Their eyes have also had a change, becoming compound eyes to help them see in a bigger arc without needing to tilt their heads and give away their position when hiding. They also stay the same size even when shrunk. Otherwise, they remain a snack sized meal to the several more aggressive creatures.

First extinction of the game, this one is tied directly to competition and mostly effects the early Generations, with all the Generation 0 creatures becoming extinct.

This extinction effected the Terebo species extremely harsly, and as a result of a bunch of space becoming availible that species seems to have gotten a increased drive to grow more rapidly and larger

(Until next world event all new Terebo species will grow up to twice the size of the largest species)

The Overlord still appears to be meditating, leaking excess magical energy into the surrounding lakes in the highlands

The rest of the ceiling currently varies between .5 km to 5km depending on location though it tends to get less tall as you go toward the edge or the rim of the 50km diameter dome, though some of the narrow passages shown on the map have a ceiling as low as 75 meters.

i think Smooth dome could be a problem for getting high up because slime mold are bad at climbing up even in optimal conditions so i think if we adapt it right we could atleast climb up the walls slowly with like pockmarking or making the surface rougher. but atleast the smaller maze like tunnels would be a good start making a literal dungeon zone

the most interesting thing about slime mold in real life is that they are actually normal sized amoebas so like a single cell in most animals that unite there membranes to become one gigantic cell so they are just unseen until they start collecting

After consuming the lining of their lungs and rapidly growing, the larval Hu'te violently tears its way out of the chest cavity, killing the prey and providing it with a large meal to start off its life with.

And they now had a boney plate forming on their face to act as finer tool for digging in a small area, or into an extra tough bit of ground. More notable though is that they're bigger and their tail bone continues to grow throughout it's entire life. So even if it breaks the tip off, it won't be entirely helpless. When they grow too long, the Nakk intentionally break their tail bones off and have come to use them as supports in their burrows and tunnels.

The spindlemount scu'te may also choose to move in an upright position, relying on the chest scales to provide information from the air -- although this is poor quality and is mainly used to discern wind direction and speed, giving a sort of primitive early warning system if the scu'te has strayed close to a chasm or cave.

Then as soon as they get onto land they must be careful of Boneslurpers. Living in the southern part of the reaches they have begun to make their homes in the nooks and crannies of void rock pillars. Here they are much safer, and they can quite easily get to Hydrabo and their Tectorius counterparts, which they have begun to rely on as a secondary food source. No longer just efficient in water, and fast on land, they've evolved to be better climbers. As the 2nd era dawns The Overlord is still, a meditating body slowly being covered in Rotids and Terabos as a unknown amount of time passes by, their magical radiation leaking further and further out, until it seems to condense into clouds and storms that throw strangely mutated spores of Rotids ( >>4524657 ).

Seemingly for years these violent storms sweep through the landscape, cutting through mountains and forming lakes; few of this new strain of Rotid survives, but those that do are pushed deep into the darkest reservoirs full of unspent magic creating bright spots among the growing darkness.

The lord sleeps, and the world grows bigger.

Temperature: Average 55° F (12.77° C), Cluthian Climes = 39.5° F (4.16° C), Spindleside = 60° F (15.56° C)

Another wave of zomem migrate into Spindleside, competing with the Spindleside suckmem.

The large degree of plate covering accumulated by its lineage allows this species, the mozem, to weather the sandstorms of its new home; as a result, it begins to dominate sandier areas.

The mozem's adaptations are relatively minor: its plate covering has once more increased, but more importantly its neck scales have fused into a rigid structure called the "cape". By eliminating gaps between the scales, sand is kept away from the skin; erosion of the scales themselves by motion wear is also removed.

The cape also comes in handy as a defense against the suckmem's tonguelash when competing for carcasses. However, also the headplate is still unfused, the movement of the neck is greatly curtailed and so the mozem relies more on a long and dextrous tongue.

Honestly we only just hit a amount of them to show on the map, so I'll be posting one as soon as I can (my current drawing aid for maps is having severe issues so that might be a hot minute unfortunately)
Basically just consider the lowest places on the map with a clear view of light to be the areas they are in, like the northern passageways, Spindleside, and the south eastern area with the pillars.

If by refined you mean more concentrated pretty much all creatures store liquid magic (mana) in their body either through thaumosyntheis or eating creatures that already have mana in them; every creature currently stores it equally by dispersing it along their entire body, so the main way to increase ability/have a more complicated form of magic is to increase creature size.

2nd Extinction event, the world is merciless

As the weather gets more extreme we see that certain biomes are starting to form ( >>4526247 ), though thankfully there are still moderate areas for the less specialized creatures.

Creatures use their newly acquired magical capabilities ( >>4526240 ) to evolve to newer heights, those that can't keep up die in droves, causing a extinction upon this still new world that it has never seen.

(Creatures can still copy a weaker version each other's abilities, but now it is limited to species that regularly interact with each other in their specific biome)

The Overlord stirs, the many plants that once grew over them falling off or disintegrating into a fine mist; they look upon the once barren landscape of this void to see a thriving, if patchy, ecosystem of creatures.

They take a step forward, hearing a crunch under them, looking down they see a freshly dead disemboweled Nakk, and with curiosity overcoming them they examine the corpse for clues as to how these could have evolved from the minions they are so much more familiar with.

Every creature had two separate yet intertwined circulatory systems! The larger for blood, and a smaller for mana, certainly such a system could only get more complex and interesting from this discovery, though The Overlord wondered if these creatures even possessed enough instincts or brain-power to actually be able to use a larger mana pool, even if they did evolve one.

(Creatures can now evolve slightly more complicated magic, though they must evolve larger and more complex systems to store mana)

the small Glomem half the size of its ancestors is a fat little spore eater that licks spore bearing surfaces in crevices and gills of mushrooms or just slime puddles that it laps up with its sticky long kinda spade shaped tongue.

The reason for its success is heavy magic use in a expandable throat pouch where it puffs out a mix of density manipulated air and spores that it returns to a slightly bigger then normal size in a violently flammable even mildly explosive cloud.

but this use is quite magic heavy expanding matter beyond its natural state so they have a a work around a cheat to there magic density the lymph containing mana collecting in a abscess under the skin increasing there volume to body mass ratio of magic by expanding the circulatory system itself.

Summary they make stuff slightly larger when they expel it increasing surface area and making it lighter thus more flammable but its magic heavy so they have this abscess a cavity under there skin connected to there lymph heart to increase the volume of magic holding fluid

Being bashed into or toppled doesn't seem to work against these creatures. And even against their poisonous cousins, it takes a while for that to work it's way around such a large circulatory system. Speaking of which, both systems are very large. It's not just this creature's stomach that holds a lot, magic also collects inside this beast. The Ohmbell uses its newfound powers to create electric jolts as a way to further the growth of their species, losing the many tendrils in favor of thicker, more powerful ones as well as growing in size in its stalk, fan, and mana pearl. During the days that the light is unobscured by the clouds, the Ohmbell simply waits and continues the status quo. When the light dims or goes dark due to the overcast however, the ohmbell will create little dancing sparks of electricity with its mana pearl to lure unknowing creatures deep into their fields. Once a creature is sufficiently inside, the Surrounding Ohmbell will electrocute the creature to death, letting its corpse decompose and absorbing its nutrients and Mana/miasma that plumes from the body into the air and soil.
>>
>>4530612
Forgot to add:

However, the tendrils tend to be slow moving, and unless prey is sufficiently within a patch of Ohmbell, they have a decent chance of escape.
Furthermore, the electric tendrils take large amounts of mana to power, and if the Ohmbell fail to capture prey, they will take days of Thaumosynthesis/Photosynthesis to recharge the expended mana. Making them easy targets for herbivores in the area.

Xomem don't need their face plates anymore, as most other creatures have gained the instincts to know to avoid it's head. And rival Xomem that try to attack it in the head are just going to feed venom into it's toxic boils. On top of this, they've evolved eyelids, which is the only protection their face really needed. So instead, face licking has become a sort of social activity for these creatures.

These creatures have remained fairly small in size, mostly only attacking when the target they've found is already injured or weak. They still smell around for dead bodies to scavenge, or eggs to steal. If they are unlucky to get into a fight with a healthy enemy they do have a new strategy. By shaking it's head rapidly left and right it flicks up a cloud of their stored venom, coating everything close to it in the stuff.

The world grows indiscriminately as larger and larger groups and individuals of Therabo eat away at the walls and ceiling, to the point that cracking sounds of loose void-stone become a familiar sound as thunder is to rainstorms.

Until one day, a deafening crack rings out, and the world shakes as humongous chunks of the ceiling comes crashing down and scattering along the South and East, creating both a large chain of mountains to the east of the Cluthian and revealing a previously hidden cave to the south-east.

The Gated Marsh is a newly uncovered area, it sits at midland height and has lots of strangely squared cliffs and tunnels carved into the wall leading nearly up to the ceiling. This area also posses unique volcanic vent lakes and ponds that both heat the water and air, which makes up for its near complete darkness due to it being blocked from the direct light of The Door.

The Cluthian Climes has gained much more land, most of it being rocky high-land mountains and a a few stalagmite pillars; the spread of Lantid species has created a few growth-zones in the lowlands, but the current species will need to adapt to grow into the Mid and Highlands as they get steadily colder.

The Terabo species have made quick work of colonizing the ceiling, though they can't quite get a handle on the area above the Clouds (around +3.5-4km) due to the constant wind and increasing smoothness. Strangely it seems that the more Therapo grow and break down the void the stronger the clouds become, creating more extreme and far reaching weather.

(Any creature that evolves in a specialized environment must adapt for the weather in said environment or must evolve to move out of it, any creature that fails to do so will become extinct)
Seasonal Flooding around bodies of water increases in height from 50 cm to 1 meter

Creatures under 5cm in the Cluthian climes must evolve a way to keep warm (burrowing, pack warming, fat deposits ect) or become extinct.

Creatures over 5cm in both Spindle-side and Dustbowl must have ways to keep cool (less fur, water reserves, larger extremities, ect) or become extinct.
(Therapo species between 3- 2km on the ceiling experience less efficient thaumosynthesis due to clouds siphoning it from the air, while the Therapo species on the floor experience increased growth as magic is redistributed to the lower region through rain)

(The increased size of the area allows creatures to evolve up to 20cm, this does not apply to Mycelium)

Hydrabo have developed thaumo-sensitive feelers on their surface and larger retractable organs responsible for gathering more ambient magic. The control of these organs is controlled by a more advanced vegetative body and a simplistic chemical brain. This simple brain regulates its primitive macro-circulatory system and is able to delay reproductive actions until weather is most amicable. Further protection has also developed around exposed body proportions.

Their ears also evolve to allow for greater range of motion to better hone in on any potential predators or Nack that seek to bully them out of areas.

Retids that grow on the rocky midlands have developed a larger main bulb to decrease its chances of being dislodged, increasing the size of its base up to 300%

They also grow multiple stalks to increase chances of survival when encountering a predator, as well as using its puffs of air to shake its caps menacingly, spreading the immature yet incredibly fowl smelling spores in the area around it.

The Grotind has evolved to use Zomem magic to make anything that ingests it or it's spores to become twice as big. This does not give the Grotind better chances of survival against the creature, but it does do a great job of causing every other nearby grazing creature to scatter in a panic, protecting the majority of the other Grotinds.

Despite the occasionally beneficial flooding, the climbing Rakk still must go through a lot of predators to get to their land bound foods. They survive much better sticking above ground, their diet of hydrabo spores becoming a main resource for them. A sub species that doesn't touch ground has formed to take better advantage of their cliffside home, changing their webbed feet into cloven hooves. These are the Nook Nakk, and the food on the cieling is entirely theirs for the taking! Though their yummy spores are plentiful, the Nook Nakk has a habit of eating the entire hydrabo pods. Having forgotten how to alter their bone density from lack of use after becoming naturally very light, they instead use their magic to aid in digestion.

Some of the Sandy Therapo of Spindle side managed to have a few of their spore flakes end up in dust-bowl, after a few generations of those descendants trying to survive they developed a technique to survive the high heat and constant dust.

During the periods of low dust or rain, the layers of the pod will open, exposing one of the few slimy, Thaumosynthesis capable areas on this creature, allowing it to store up quantities of mana without drying out or having its mana evaporate back into the air. Then when the dust kicks back up it closes these carapace covered appendages and spits out any stuck dust with a gentle movement of the layers

Alright I'm done for now, enjoy evolving stuff everyone

>>
>>4534548
It certainly wouldn't catch all of them but I'm mostly just using it as a transitional step towards something better suited for the job.
>umm would it not just bite away on the tendril?
if its head is the first thing caught it would have to move itself further in to try to bite at the base letting the other tendrils and more of the first get stuck.
>should not be so hard to get away?
They would be growing around barren patches and easily just avoided.
>is it not half the length of the tendril the length of the animal?
Yeah, Carnivorous plants tend to be much larger than their prey as they don't have to expend as much energy to maintain or move that mass most of the time.
>>
>>4534548
>>4534633
My first thought was that even with their unimpressive intelligence, they'd not be the type to think these tendrils are actually helpful ropes to help them get across big pits. They'd know to avoid them soon enough.
Though thinking about it another way, they're herbivores that have no real predators. Infighting is inevitable, but would only result in bodies being dropped to the ground as a meal for zomem and such. Perhaps this tendrilbo becomes a bit more of a symbiotic predator. When fights break out, the nooks toss the loser into the tendrils knowing that it'll get them a bigger food supply. Dunno if they have the intellect to become the first "farmers" of this world.

Just throwing that out there, as it does feel like Hydrabo Tenaci would have a tough time otherwise actually capturing something that eats it.

All that time in the water has pushed them to develop more senses, and so they now have two nostrils. More notably they have changed tactics somewhat, liquidating only one half at a time and whipping their body at the same time to launch a flying gaping mouth at something. Once latched on, the half that still has the body fin then swims it's way over to reconnect and finish off the creature. To compliment their new sense, each half has a smell distinct to the other that they will follow non-stop to return to. If the other half dies or takes so long in it's pusuit that it dilutes itself away, the remaining half will desperately try to find a replacement half or die trying.

The Terabo and creatures of the roof continue to diversify, growing larger and larger, eating away at the rock above with no care. Stalactites grow and shrink as wave upon wave come and go, and eventually, the Terabo eat away at load-bearing pillars.

Large cracks and groans echo through the cave, the roofed sky that very few creatures even know the existence of shakes violently and splits, Terabo covered chunks fall with shattering booms accompanied by alien glassy clinks, dust and earth is kicked into the air, causing the clouds to whip up into a wild frenzy, forming and destroying new mountains and walls, new rivers, new land.

The outer walls quake, falling apart into bits and pieces as it seems nowhere is safe to hide from this worlds fury.
Then, after what seems like days, the world slowly quiets, looked down upon by a curiously twinkling ceiling.

The world is split apart, now a series of ever so slightly connected systems, shined down upon by eerily familiar (if less powerful) light.
Extinction Event: World Breaker

- Every general habitat, non-aquatic creature must roll 1d6, number will determine where they end up
1) Porterra (Center landmass + Interflume and The Reaches)
2) Cluthian Climes
3) Spindleside
4) Dustbowl (includes the non-named section to the northeast)
5) Greatmarsh
6) Anywhere (new location must be provided when creature is evo'd)

-Each area also now has equal low light levels with the exception of Porterra which has the door, light is provided by strange glowing Fluorite shaped mineral structures in both the ceiling and occasionally half submerged in the ground. They produce both a soft heat and a electric shock if touched, melting or burning any organic material that gets to close to it.

The stalk of the Hydrabo Capsula has grown much longer and its branches slowly mutating into a collection of broader thinner fronds in order to compete for more liquid magic and water in the air. Spore pods are smaller and drop off after maturity without necessarily cracking dropping behind valuable nutrition rich pods free for the taking. The stalk developed the most. the rocky outer layer is no longer the primary source of structure, instead the inside of each stalk is a much dryer, denser, and more wood like fibrous material with the soft slime restricted to narrow channels near the stalk's center.

Due to decreased competition the Spindle Sc'og becomes larger, the extra mass allowing for more Mana to be stored in their increasingly fat centers. This extra magical capabilities is used in mating displays to show how long a individual can float and how long they can jump (thanks to their steadily strengthening legs).

Further specialization has caused the magical brain's neck to slowly shrink, decreasing the likely-hood of it getting battered in a confrontation, their ears also grow larger to also help with spotting danger, as they become sitting targets after hunting due to depleted mana reserves from floating.

They open up areas underneath the metal to make perfect sleeping spots, staying warm and protected from any weather above. Night after night of bathing in the magic glow of this has effected them. Soaking it up along with their heat as another energy source. This allows NakNak to spend long periods of time underground without meal breaks. The slime on it's body has become a constant secretion, so it leaves a sticky trail in it's path. It allows the Poomin to stick to verticle surfaces, or even ceilings should it somehow reach one. By changing the density of the slime, it can make it slippery, or very gluey. They still utilise their old throwing defense, able to produce a dense nugget when needed most of the time, though this is a quickly depleted resource. They can however toss many globs of dense slime that with enough used against a single enemy, just might entirely goop their mobility up. They can also fling loose rocks too of course. They have a lot of options, and their 3-pronged tail is the main part of that. It has enough dexterity to pretty much be a hand, and it can also act as an additional foot. Not they need any more...
Despite their small size and non-predatory nature, they can be a lethal surprise for creatures roaming through the stalagmite plateus of the Gated Marsh that might disturb a family of them.

It's coat also grows a little bit more, helping it to create a seal of hair around it's body when it cozies it's legs inwards.

While there is a abundance of prey, the Fidj'te must adapt to catch it. It manages to accomplish that due to freak mutation, causing the body to accidentally treat itself as a extra 'head' ; forcing all the eyes into the same orientation and creating two large fins on its back, as well as unlocking the recessive mouth gene.

These large flippers allow it to make sand-traps that cause prey to slip in, while it struggles it will use its density manipulation to burst out of the silt-sand and swallow it whole. That being said if it misses or the prey is too big, it will get stuck in the sand and have to dig its way out, causing its meal to either escape or become a meal for a more accurate predator.

Also this doesn't have a jaw, its more of a small opening and teeth; just enough force to be lethal for a struggling prey

also this shape is more of a sack, less of a fully articulated jaw; it only uses its teeth if the prey is too big/strong to kill via absorption

While plant life is still readily available, Wakk's often encounter NakNak's and Nacht whilst the three fight over patches of dirt. Even though the Wakk prefers above ground caves over burrows, all three are diggers, and one making a home sometimes leads to another's eviction. In this fight the Wakk has a slight advantage if it can tangle it's tail with that of the others, disabling their primary method of attack. The Wakk can then go in with it's claws and greater size to win out. Though in every other case, the Nakk loses, as it's short spiked club tail can not do as much permanent damage as the specialised stabbing tails of the others. When the subject of hit and run tactics, Wakk tire out and lose to their smaller cousins. This often happens when they use their magic to make their club tail heavier, which ends up working against them like a trailing anchor slowing them down.

This is, until it went through some changes. With territory on the line, Wakk become better defenders. Spiked growths on the face take the form of tusks and a horn. Their forearms grow long too for better reach. Face to face they are much more dangerous, and they have a great preference for charging opponents. They don't use their magic until they are on top of their prey, where they can risk the slow down of more weight. Their tail also undergoes a bit of a change, it's spikes growing longer and slightly hooked with the intention of becoming more able to become tangled in other tails. Like a mohawk, it's spikes miss the sides of the tail, which continues to aid it as a blunt hammer tool. As is true of all their bones, they can increase the weight and strength of their tail and claws to allow them to cut through or smash past extra tough earth or enemies.
Taking on this more aggressive form, Wakk have moved on from being just opportunistic in their eating. Nakk meat is a major part of their diets now.

Now not having nearly as much competition or predators the Grotind starts to branch out into other survival strategies.

It evolves a spiraling stem, growing multiple lop-sided caps from it to help in case it still gets eaten or damaged; allowing individual organisms to survive and spread spore-pods much longer.

It also puts a tiny bit of mana into a fibrous tissue that connects up to 6 spores together, when this morsel is eaten by a unwary herbivore it will puff up to three times its size, causing great intestinal discomfort and eventual vomiting; giving growing pods extra nutrients

The buried Rotinds have been struggling, the immense heat and light causing any attempts to grow taller simply burning its more sensitive membrane.

So instead it decides to grow down, growing several tumorous bulbs on its underside that store excess nutrients; allowing it to bury itself for incredibly long periods, only uncovering itself once the light and weather becomes less harsh. A secondary benefit of the Rogourd's shape is that if any creature does find and eat part of it it can use a burst of energy to recover itself and shoo away the attacker.

Duspo-discus are a important species that often acts as a quick little snack for any thirsty animal, has this put massive pressure on them as they are eaten by most everything.
its above soil bulb is a radial series of beveled discs with a hard but porous surface other then acting as its protection is where the moisture condensates and is absorbed, it passively cycles water in its body resulting in water being cooled in its underground root-network, cooling its surface just a bit more encouraging water condensation.

makes more slime then needed with excess resources to act as appeasement to any would be predators that would eat or rip apart the bulb or roots for its water.

A few of Hydrabo Tenaci spores manage to make it to the floor unharmed, those that survived long enough to spore have developed into two distinct sub-species

Willobo continued to grow "vines" that, due to to fighting gravity, sag and droop more akin to branches; their bristles have also softened considerably, the bristles becoming more like burrs that gently fall off a disturbed branch

Meanwhile the Fibrapo Capsula has instead gone the neotenic route, becoming smaller and smaller; forming interconnected tubers that eventually form bunches of a sort of fibrous grass; the magical retention in their tubers causing them to faintly glow with a greenish tinge with stored away mana

The Hu'Te is very ill suited to the cold climate of the Cluthian Climes causing the population to drop very low and forcing them to stick almost entirely around light metal deposits. Some Hu'te however have begun to take advantage of the food filled water ways. Their fins have overall grown bigger and have fused on the prestiour head into one large fin. The spine has also extended to make swimming easier and the body overall is streamlined. Do to the constant movement of the fins their use to sense vibrations is decreased and as such they lose much of their ability to do so. To compensate for that their sensitive nubs have flatten out to expand their surface area.

After getting stranded in the cold fields of the Cluthian Clilmes the Zomeme had to adapt quickly or die out. It turned its ability to neutralize poison via thick saliva into the ability to cool down the spores of local Lantid spores ( >>4540366 , >>4526251 ) allowing for a stable diet that is supplemented by any creatures it can catch.

It also turned its somewhat lopsided front leg posture into basic manipulators, allowing it to dig in the snow for small foam-grass buds.

The excess magic in its diet now translates into a mutation of its ability, being able to apply its shrinking ability on predator and prey; its not strong, but is usually enough to gain a minor advantage in both fleeing and attacking.

The Capsula has found little success on the roof, there being much less magical storms to sustain it; those that did survive have shrunk considerably by splitting themselves into smaller organisms.
A strange mutation has caused them to change color, though this ended up being beneficial due to it matching the color of the water; effectively camouflaging it from poor eye-sighted predators

>>4540235

Again shrinkage has proved useful, by allowing itself to float in the water the Pofunbo can gently drift around to newer areas with higher nutrients, as well as allowing it to spread its spores even further than it could by wind alone. it has also taken to coloring its stalks like its rock covering to discourage depredation due to looking like small rocks

The Anphibiakk is the result of constant pressure on land, resulting in a semi-aquatic Nakk that uses its "beak" as both a feeding and breathing instrument, allowing it to walk along the relatively safe bottom.

It mainly feeds on the Retid ( >>4531610 ) and Retchid ( >>4549116 ), using any non-digested spores as a way to both mark safe areas and as a deterrent. When it isn't feeding from these, it will wait near the edge of the water and attempt to ambush immature Zomem species for a quick meal.

The Floatids at the mercy of newly formed tides in the Spindle Sea find themselves often tipped over and on the shallow ends of beaches. To survive these new weather forms as well as allowing spawning away from predators, a few of them have evolved into Seawetids, small rotids that have incredibly long fans that catch what little thaumic energy exists so far from the light of The door and light metals.

They have also developed a taste for the numerous small amounts of fecal matter and dead tissue that floats at the bottom of the seas, allowing them to grow in exponential numbers, creating huge patches of softly twinkling 'stars' on the ocean floor

Parasitic Slu'ge evolve a smaller form to better hide and maneuver towards unsuspecting prey. They also now form large schools of up to 10 individuals, allowing for greater success of taking down bigger targets. Though due to their advanced form of self-liquidation some of the spawn of these creatures carries traits of their prey.

They have also started to leave prey partially alive, laying eggs in the lungs of almost-dead creatures, this gives their young a head start, especially if they are not close to a body of water.
