Hapless, thriving in the darkest dark, an egg.
Spewing, Chewing, darkly brewing is, an egg.
With unseen tentacles and unformed eyes, an egg,
gives life to emptiness, where unlife thrives, that egg.

Quick little fun one-thread evo using the primordial time of this recent thread (>>>4548147) and the rules of Eldritch Evo (to be found here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?searchall=Eldritch+Evo)

It's basically a normal evo, but there are pocket dimensions and ectoplasm. Read the rules if you don't know em, or just don't use those two things.

The setting: At some point during the early period of life on the planet SII-2453-0, for a few million years, a directed beam of Null-Light was emitted from the entity cradling the planet's core in an apparently random direction.

At some point, however, it hit a tiny, dying star, exploding huge amounts of matter into its solar system, thereby creating a thin kind of 'atmosphere' of dust and hydrogen around the star.
Another result of this event was that the sun which was in the process of fizzling out was reignited, filled with a dark kind of energy: Null light, which it now emitted at a similarely subdued rate as its photonic output.

Quickly, the combination of rudimentary atmosphere and energy output lead to what it had to lead: Life.
And with the mysterious energy of THADOZ in the mix, strange things would follow...

Creature time!

Vernicle are microorganisms which float around the currents of the star in great big swarms, looking for organisms to latch onto like a coat of rust and slowly digest. If they cannot find any - which, considering the vastness of their biosphere is likely - they can make due with inorganic matter, asteroids or clumps of minerals, where they perform a slowed down version of their digestion, often taking centuries to reproduce in proper numbers, rather than months when on, say a Borgwold.

Borgwolds are solitary giants, floating through solarsphere and filtering Vernicles as well as other organic or semiorganic particles from its nebulae.
Borgwolds are not particularely intelligent, having little in the way of sensory organs, but they nonetheless do have a decentralized brain running down their spine. This brain they mostly use for idle contemplation, as it is not meant to help them deal with any problems by means of computation, but through producing ectoplasm (see Eldritch Evo for details). It is capable of storing its own ectoplasm and expelling it in a big cloud when attacked by Sothix, confusing and frightening off its predator.

Sothix are dedicated predators to Borgwolds and track them through the vastness of the solarsphere using thier photo- as well as null-sensitive eyes. When they find a Borgwold (or sometimes a fellow Sorthix) they latch onto it with their upper mouth and begin feeding with their lower one. They reproduce by parting in the middle.
They also are able to produce pocket dimensions (See Eldritch Evo for details) which they use both for cover in attacks as well as for flight.

Some vernicles develop mouth-like organs. They use these to smootch, but its not ordinary smootching. Instead it's used for sexual reproduction and passing genes and stuff.

Vernicles dont have thoughts, not really, but some of them have adapted to stealing ectoplasm from others, collecting those flickers of experience only to expel them out in a vaporized puff to propel them forward, empty once more. What new instinct they do have is simply that of "want." And they will move to what they want.
--
Borgwolds decentralized brain continues to serve little practical use, but over time, the best of the thinkers were able to reproduce, and perhaps grow. To that end there are hemispherical lobes growing on either side of the spine, for the preservation and recall of experience, memory.
--
Sothix adapt almost imperceptibly; small furrows in their primary mouth enable capillary flow of vital fluids from their prey into their own open loop digestive system. The lower mouth becomes used less often.

This by the same anon that did eldritch evo? The art for the clouds and organisms look like it.

Course, I could actually use my brain cells and read the OP, and that'd tell me the answer.
Still, at least the art did immediately chime me in on it.

The abundance of Vernicles in the Solarsphere, in combination with the modest number of larger creatures has lead to Vernicle-covered asteroids being a common occurance.

Far slower to be consumed than Borgwolds or Sothix, it takes millennia, sometimes millions of years, to cover an asteroid with hardening vernicles, while its inner minerals are being eroded slowly and turned into biomass.

By now however, there are numerous such obejcts: large balls of biological matter floating around space, slowly spreading and offering fertile soil for potential organisms to settle on them.

Other wrinkly Borgworlds don't develop their new brain mass into a hearing organ but into one to generate pocket dimensions. Though they don't usually use it for themselves, but to invade those of predatory Sothix, reaching into their dimensions and yanking them out to crush them and thus prevent them from latching on to the Borgwold

eventually all that brain mass extended out, and became sensitive, crudely so, to various wavelengths of light. Unusually, it allowed the Borgworlds to see the many tunnels of other organisms, as burrowed into their pocket dimensions and overlaid across reality.

The Borgworlds became patient hunters, simply waiting out their enemies when needed, or able to keenly evade predators.

the drooling creatures have a corrosive sticky goo surrounding them and moving with them somehow? they seem quite prolific with quite a bit of genetic diversity(seems like having no real predators allows for quite a bit of diversity with there spread with each asteroids population looking a bit different)

there young not quite being copies of there parents much smaller and softer even consuming what the adults leave behind this "heterochrony"? seems to allow the young to develop quite well with all needed nutrients and material.

Borgland are a smaller less migratory variant of the Borgworld who mostly hang around feeding grounds of Drooling covered asteroids and space dust scrapping the surface with there "trunk" and moving around mainly with there tentacles to grapple around. There decentralized brains clustered on there back allows them to send out pulses of ecto for zeromass lost propulsion to slow down there momentum allowing for rendezvous with bigger asteroids for easier feeding

As the Ventricle's lifestyle becomes more active, it starts requiring a faster metabolism; and a faster metabolism usually requires higher temperatures. Thus, a development is made: one of the vent pairs is folded in on itself and turned into a sort of "heater" which traps the expunged ectoplasm and converts it's kinetic energy to warmth. While slower than their four-engined cousins, these Ventricles can keep going for longer periods of time, and are less dependent on external temperature.
