You are an old fogey who fought in more campaigns than the number of the average anime protagonist’s harem. Sick of shitting yourself and listening to the demented woman next door, you promptly walked straight out of the old folks home and jumped off a bridge.Landing in this weird Jap fantasy world, what do you plan to do?>Bring FREEDOM: Create democracy! Invent the gun! >>4697029>>4697056>>4697150>>4697151>>4697159You got on your feet and remember what that weird chick said before you got here. You couldn’t help but think she’s dressed in way too little for someone her age and expressed that fact with emphasis on ‘her age’Of course, all you got in return is a: ‘How dare you! I am Millenia old! You may be the chosen hero, but I won’t tolerate much of this!’You’ve heard it all before of course, working as a bouncer after the war you saw many underage patrons trying to get in saying they were ‘older than they looked’.Now that you’ve landed in this world proper you realise you weren’t sent to hell to be tormented by some upstart little shit that thought she was a goddess just because she was 19. Quite the opposite in fact, the lack of buckling knees and aching back indicated that you were in heaven with all the physical strength and fitness of your prime if nor more! You could take on the Vietcong all over again if it weren’t for the PTSD. Come to think of it, some parts of this seem awful familiar...Wait, this looks just like little Timmy’s video games! Made by the same people your father fought in Iwo Jima! You always lectured him on how proper armour wouldn’t leave girls so scantily dressed but he always said ‘it’s just a game grandpa.’ Well these games were gonna turn him into a pervert if you didn’t watch over him playing it. Especially with those... obscene bust sizes and... outrageous thighs. Of course you only watched over him to make sure he was raised right playing these games, doesn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy it while doing so. It’s not Timmy’s fault women were portrayed this way, no need to stop him playing this game.As a result you got a good grasp on the way the game worked and the plotline. Which was pretty close to what that goddess asked you to do! What were the specifics again?(1/2)
Now you remember her monologue! It was‘Awaken great hero! Our time together is up, your journey begins now, great hero!’‘Wait could you run that by me ag-‘ Then you woke up here.Shit.After getting up and appreciating having fresh bones, you headed towards the hilltop village in the distance. Unfortunately, the huge forest was the only way to get to it before nightfall...Halfway through you saw something... green appear from a trapdoor from the ground. It reminded you of something...>VC ambush! >>4697171*You remember something green coming out of a trapdoor. It was holding a spear, stabbing Ben with it. Ben didn’t deserve it, he deserved it the least. He didn’t come here for glory or patriotism, he just wanted a good paycheck for his wife and child. You couldn’t shoot the VC, it was too close to Ben, you couldn’t hit Ben. So you strangled it, with strong grip meant for holding an M4. The life left the monster pretty quick, it’s airways not merely being blocked, but also crushed. Sure it clawed you and scratched you but your uniform was thick and your face was out of range. After you killed the goblin you quickly checked on Ben, maybe you could still-***Wait.**Ben wasn’t there, he never was here with you. You look down expecting a uniform but only see the clothes you left the old folks home with. Looking back at the goblin, it did have a spear, but it didn’t use it on you. Or maybe it just didn’t have the chance to before you killed it. Your instincts definitely protected you but now you have no idea what it’s intentions were. You can tell however, that it died in terror and fear, *just like that VC*.Regardless, it was time to move on, maybe it deserved a proper burial... No, you don’t have the tools anyways. The spear might be useful though, picking it up, you continue your journey. After finally arriving at the village, you get a few odd stares, from people armoured with leather or metal to people with medieval peasant outfits. None have anything close to the plaid shirt and pants you do. Well, it’s not like you could be any more of an outsider, might as well ask for directions.‘Erm, y’all don’t speak Japanese right?’‘Good traveller are you lost?’‘Oh thank god, yes. Can I have some directions?’‘Sure, welcome to Mura! Just put it in your inventory!’ ‘Inventory?’ ‘Didn’t your parents teach you?’He simply snaps his fingers and a screen appears midair. ‘The Grand Goddess blessed each of us with our own personal inventory to keep our stuff in!’ Of course, it’s size depends on your EXP. So only old folks with tonnes of EXP like me can be shopkeepers. Much easier to keep all of our stuff that way.’ As he explains you see many copies of the items he already had on display. The numbers next to them presumably showing how many are in stock. ‘You must come from one of those religious institutions that refuse to use inventory. Sorry young lad, but out here, things are different. I’m going to have to ask you to put that away.’Well it’s been a while since anyone’s called you young! He seems pleasantly surprised at your compliance when you snap your fingers, as you look at your inventory the spear in your hand turns into bright particles that float into a box. The box now displays a ‘goblin spear’ with another 4 empty boxes beside it. You also see the amount of money you have. Although you see no ‘health points’ or ‘mana points’ that Timmy so enthusiastically talked about in his game, you are glad to see you can afford quite a bit. Must be this ‘grand goddess’s doing.‘Keep in mind that it doesn’t work if any creature with hostile intentions are nearby, although some sneaky creatures like those goblin gits can hide their intentions, so it also won’t work as a reliable threat detector.’What else would you ask this old man?>Write inThings to buy>Padded Leather Cap 20g>Padded Gambeson 50g>Arming sword 30g>Longsword 75g>Backpack (for all the small stuff not worth an inventory slot) 50g>Serafina’s Unspoilable Rations (One bar guaranteed to last you a day!) 10g>Waterskin 10gCurrently you have 150g

They also know where the areas requiring mass extermination are. ‘Course you don’t get any EXP from the completion of jobs, there’s no way to transfer it from one person to another.’He leans in closer looking around conspiratorially, ‘But between you and me, the best way to earn it is through war. That’s how I got enough of it for 30 inventory slots.’ Your eyes widen in surprise, ‘You’re a war veteran too?’ What you receive in response is a belly laugh. ‘You don’t know? I was a captain in the crusade against the greenskins. Half the people who walk into my shop are bards and scholars asking for interviews rather than customers. You’re a real fresh breath of air, lad. It don’t make sense that you’re a veteran, not if you don’t know about EXP, but somehow I believe you. No one comes home the same from war. If you stroll into the guild tomorrow morning, my name’s Reynauld, call for me and I’ll buy you a drink.’Thanking Reynauld, you purchase the goods and head to the tavern to get some rest. The moment you raise your arm to say hello to the bartender, your sleeve slips down your arm, and a girl in religious robes yells from the corner. ‘That... that mark! I must bring you to the Church for you to-‘She suddenly deflates, looking down and muttering ‘Not acquire the weapon as the Bishop already closed it up for the night. I’ll let everyone know right now!’ ‘Wait, kid!’ You try to grab her, but she’s already dashed away from you and is out the door, yelling. At this point, bystanders are looking surprised rather than annoyed and the bartender pipes up. ‘Strange, she usually realises that it’s just a random guy and apologises, sorry stranger. Guess everyone’s gonna know about you now. Tell you what, you get to stay the night free for such a bother, plenty of empty rooms these days.’Unsure of how much of it is goodwill and how much of it is superstition from your supposed status as the chosen, you thank him and head upstairs, ready to rest and think after such an eventful day. Still feeling amazed at how easy moving is, you head downstairs and thank the bartender before heading to the Church. Although you can’t tell the time, you’ve always been an early riser since the war so the sun is just peeking over the horizon. Opening the big wooden door reveals an old bishop preparing for mass in an otherwise empty hall. For the most part, it looked just like the ones you’ve visited back home, fancy stained glass and old wooden pews. The only difference is the lady depicted in the murals instead of ol’ JC, and no evangelists with nothing better to do at dawn. In fact the lack of annoying evangelists practically make the place better, aside from that one strange priestess from yesterday of course. Aaaand she’s just burst in from one of the doors at the end of the church. Guess some things never change, even in another world. ‘Father Maximus we should go to the tavern and find him! He could change everything! He can use the sacred weapon, then he can go to the capital, then I can follow him, then I can see the cityagainandgetoutofthisboringvi-‘ The Bishop, Maximus you presume, walks up and places a finger against her mouth. ‘I don’t thing that will be necessary, Kalla’ He says, pointing another finger at you.The girl’s eyes widen at your presence. ‘That’s him! I knew you’d come! Look at his shoulder, go!’ The bishop shuffles to you leisurely pace. You lift your sleeve to get it over with. ‘I just wanted to clear things up, I don’t think I’ll know how to use your ultimate weapon thing. I don’t have any experience with bows or swords or whatever. I’ll be a pretty miserable chosen one, especially since I don’t got any powers or magic.’Maximus shook his head. ‘The Grand Goddess never stated that the Chosen would be special. All that was stated was that they would have experience. Not just EXP, but true experience, the kind is crafted through pain and hardship instead of culling dumb beasts for decades. I look into your eyes and see a veteran, just like old Reynauld. Eyes that would never be found on someone so young. That is superior evidence to the mark on your shoulder. Come with me, would you kindly.’1/2

Nothing so fancy like the middle of a magic forest or a magic force field keeping it floating midair above a huge shrine. While Maximus unlocks the display and slowly opens it, he speaks. ‘When the Goddess granted us the prophecy, she said that you were to be told one thing in particular: “Don’t worry about ammo.” I hope you understand because I sure don’t, it does not look like arrows would even fit inside it.Slowly you pick up the M21, the gun seems almost pristine, like it was just out of the factory. Despite that, the dull factory colours are jarring compared to the world you’re in. The adventurers, buildings, even the occasional bird you saw outside looked very similar to the game you recall, with bright vibrant colours and the smoothness of items that can be magically repaired. Only now do you realise the texture of everything here felt too... smooth, too flawless. As if the only thing real in this place is you, your clothes and this gun.Or maybe it’s just the PTSD talking. Maybe it’s just the natural reaction to being dropped in a new world with only exactly two things from your own, your pants and shirt. “You look like you recognise it, although I can’t say whether you’re happy about it. You always thought they were just trying to be humble when they said they were just doing their duty, that they were saying hated the war just so you wouldn’t put yourself in danger. Now, you know better. They did a job that no one should have had to do, led by people who didn’t give a rat’s ass about them. Just trying their best to survive the hell they landed themselves in and keeping their friends alive in the process. You know because you’ve lived it too. You were never there to save Vietnam, you were there to destroy a threat to the US, so destroy you did. Regardless of age or gender. As long as it would keep your platoon safe you did it, and you didn’t regret anything. It was all the fault of the assholes higher up; the officers, the politicians, the goddamned president. At least that’s what you told yourself, how else can a man live with the faces of those he killed?‘You look... preoccupied. Well, if you have any questions about the prophecy, come back anytime, Hero. I must prepare for mass now.’ Hero huh? It feels like déjà vu now, that even in a different world, a higher authority has descended upon you and asked you to pick up your M21 and kill to protect. To do your duty to the world. No, this was different, in Timmy’s game the enemies didn’t have any sympathetic cause. They weren’t even human. They were always armed and always attacked first. You hope to god it’s the same situation here, you doubt your mind would survive having to choose between duty and morality again. You slowly walk towards the door, right before you open it the Bishop gives one last suggestion. ‘You should head to the capital as soon as you can, the Patrician would be delighted to see that one of the chosen have finally arrived to aid him!’ As you exit the backroom, that priestess Kalla is standing guard. What exactly is this demon lord I gotta fight? Who’s in charge of this kingdom? And why do you need a guy from another world?”She’s taken aback, but doesn’t seem hurt by your words, ‘Well, why didn’t you ask the Bishop?’ You check behind you, the door is closed. ‘Let’s just say I have issues with authority.’‘I... understand.’ She looks down for half a second, it seems like she has some experience with poor leadership as well. ‘Anyways I don’t mind answering, anything to help one of the chosen!’ Wait, one of? “Over centuries the kingdom of Venisam has constantly been attacked by demons from the west. They are easy to identify, thanks to their mainly red, white and blue skin coloration. Although the army does well at holding them back with the aid of the more martial religious orders, they are often distracted by foes from elsewhere. When they go on crusades, like the one a couple decades back against the greenskins from the north, the populace has to rely on local militia and their own cunning to fend off the demons from the west. However, after the first incursion, our goddess appeared to the king of Venisam and told him that warriors bearing a unique marking would one day come to our aid. Then she granted us sacred weapons and told us to bring them to the 4 corners of the kingdom. They were brought in secret to villages at the on the borders of Venisam, except for this place. The one tasked with bringing it to Mura got drunk and loudly announced it the second she stepped foot here. Luckily as Mura is the northernmost town, it has tonnes of adventurers to keep it safe, especially against the goblins in the nearby forest. And whenever the weapon was stolen, it is usually soon found wrapped at the church’s doorstep again with a note insulting the Goddess for designing such a stupid object.’‘Wait, you said there are multiple heroes, and multiple weapons?’ ‘Oh yeah, there are several of the Goddess’s Chosen expectated to arrive at the same time as you! Assuming they’re identified, they will head to the capital so you can all meet up!’ You stared blankly, it should’ve been expected in all honesty, in Timmy’s game you could always group up with at most three other players for missions. ‘And all these heroes bear the same mark as me?’ ‘Yup!’You resolve to think about the other veterans later after staring at a wall for 15 seconds and concerning Kalla. Instead you decide to head to the guild to test your new gear. ‘Wait. Erm, you look like you could use a guide. Do you mind if I join you on your journey to the capital? It’s been so long since I’ve le- I mean it’s such a long trip, even for a man such as you!’ You stare at this mess of a girl for another 5 seconds before leaving. ‘I’ll think about it.’(1/2)

After all, these adventurers were responsible for keeping the village safe. The worst you would get were more annoying questions and intrigued stares. Summoning it out of your inventory, you looked over it again, wondering how exactly it would fire.Pulling out the magazine revealed blue, glowing bullets. When you tried to pull a bullet out for a closer look, your finger went straight through it. Placing the magazine back in, you took a deep breath. Sure, you had gone to the shooting range back on Earth plenty of times with a trusty hunting rifle, but the memories you have with this gun changes things. The sound of it firing, the special optics, the recoil difference, it would definitely remind you of the past. Then, you held your breath and aimed at the target. You pull the trigger and see the past and future. Simultaneously reminded of every time you’ve killed someone with it and realising that, after decades, you’d have to kill again fills you with a mix of dread and determination. This time was different after all. As the bullet hits the rudimentary painted straw target, it flies straight through it, leaving a gaping hole and making you feel relief that behind is a thick stone wall. However, more notable is the glowing blue tracer effect the rounds had, allowing you to easily track its trajectory through the target and into the wall. It seems like stealth would be almost impossible with this gun, although it wasn’t suppressed anyways.‘Woah, that was loud! Can’t you cast a more quiet spell?’ Some huntress suggested, bow still in hand. Then her (presumably magic) staff wielding colleague rebuked her. ‘That wasn’t a spell you idiot! Does that look like a wand to you?’ ‘What else could it be? Those shots didn’t look like any ammo I’ve ever seen.’Ignoring them, you continued firing, quickly depleting the 10-round box magazine and meeting a ‘click’ indicative of an empty chamber. Taking out the magazine and looking at it caused more bullets to literally appear out of thin air before slotting themselves into the magazine. 5 seconds later it was full again. Placing a magazine back inside, you rapidly fired all of them at multiple targets across the range. At this point the din caused by the rifle had the whole range staring at you. They watched your bullets hit each target and bore straight through to leave holes in the walls behind.(1/2)
You looked perfectly nonchalant stepping away and putting your rifle back in your inventory. ‘It’s just a new kind of... magic crossbow, it’ll be everywhere before you know it. Don’t worry.’ Some shrugged and carried on with their target practice, others started discussing your weapon and ‘that jumpy priestess possibly being actually right for once.’ Regardless, you carried on to find Reynauld and get some breakfast. You found the old man waving at you in the main hall, as soon as you exchanged greetings he ordered some breakfast for you. ‘Don’t worry, if you take a quest the food’s free!’ Although you protested, especially since you might not even take a quest, he promised to pay even if you didn’t take any. Soon, you were enquiring about quests and how to take them. ‘Well, until you get an adventurer’s membership and the following promotions, you’ll only have seeker-level quests. You can go to the counter to see what’s available.’ Upon that answer, you both sat in comfortable silence to finish your breakfasts. Afterwards, you went up to the counter and found a tall, well dressed gentleman, rather different from the pretty and petite girls you remember as quest givers in Timmy’s game. ‘Welcome to the Mura guild such as it is, what perils are you willing to face today?’ He speaks in a verbose manner, giving a good feel for what each seeker quest will be like.>’An escort mission for a timid antiquarian through the goblin-infested woods.’ Loud sounds would attract reinforcements, so deterrence and diplomacy are recommended tactics’>’A group mission to exterminate a cave of ratmen and rescue captives. More ammo will be necessary to kill them all, unless you have unending reserves. 3 other seekers await a 4th member to aid them’>’A recovery mission to find the remains of seekers who were sent to the open fields to cull wild slimes. They never reported back, so I cannot advise on what threats to prepare for.>Also write in anything you’d like to chat with Reynauld about.

You definitely have experience in them, but you put faith in your nerves to keep calm and make your decision. After accepting the job, you are handed a letter with sketches of the captives as well as a map with directions to the target and prepared to set off. ‘Your new colleagues will be informed of your arrival, meet them outside when ready.’ Donning the cheap but reliable armour bought earlier from Reynauld, you ask the man in question on the way out. ‘Don’t suppose you’ve ever heard of a substance called black powder?’ ‘Hmm... well some of my friends in the capital mentioned that alchemists and wizards are working to create the stuff from Saltpetre. Weirdos are collecting people’s piss for it. No idea what why though.’ It seems like gunpowder was only recently discovered. Maybe you can make some proper explosives once you get there. Which is a shame as good old pineapples were your best friend in the VC caves. Lobbing one in was the best way to clear corners down there, any gook that didn’t get shredded would be half deaf and disoriented from the blast.Soon, you were heading out the door and waving goodbye to the shopkeeper. Outside, you find your new team, young and vibrant speaking with the guild clerk. Upon approaching them, the clerk points at you, causing a pointy hatted wizard to greet you. ‘Hello there, I’m Susie! Nice to meet you Mr...’ You were about to give them your name before her eyes light up with recognition. ‘You’re that guy at the range! With that weird crossbow! Varren, Fiores, this was the crossbowman I was talking about!’ At that, a girl who seemed equipped with light armour and nothing else jogged over along with a swordsman with chainmail and a helmet. ‘Huh, well new technology is always welcome out here. Varren, by the way.’ He says, prompting his colleagues to scoff. ‘Well, my fists are all I’ll ever need. I’m Fiores.’Welp, weird crossbowman was a better title than hero in your opinion, you made no move to correct them and they oddly didn’t ask for your name again. As you set off for the cave, the clerk said some parting words of advice. ‘Remind yourselves that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.’
As you left the village, you pulled out your goblin spear and M21 from your inventory, slinging it over your shoulder while carrying the spear in hand. After staring at your ‘crossbow’ for a bit, your team merely shrugged and carried on. Once you reached the entrance of the cave, Varren, who grew increasingly impatient along the way, drew his longsword and advanced.‘Finally, I can’t wait to get started.’ Unfortunately for him, there was clearly a Ratman sentry on an outcrop above the cave, equipped with a rudimentary bow. Luckily it hadn’t spotted Varren yet, but was about to based on how fast Varren was about to leave the bushes, and the fact that neither Susie nor Fiores had noticed the rat in question, meant you had to act.>Tell Susie to cast a spell on it. He was too close to the edge of the bushes and undergrowth concealing your present. With only one chance left you called out to him. ‘Varren, you little shit get back here right now!’ You got his attention and stopped his advance, but you also got the attention of the sentry, who perked up and is looking in your direction. Automatically, you raise your M21 and take aim, disappointed at having to kick the rat nest awake with your shot. Until you hear Susie ironically yell ‘Quieten!’ next to you. The moment she’s said that, you’ve fired a shot right between the sentry’s eyes, dropping him to the entrance of the cave.Amazingly, you realise your shot made a very muffled sound, almost like it was suppressed. You tried to ask your adjacent teammate but... ‘hww dwd yww dw thwt? Wwwt...’ She was looking proud but transitioned to sheepish upon hearing your muffled words. ‘Ah, I remember your weapon being rather loud, so I took the initiative to use my spell “Quieten” on it. It’s a magic field that muffles everything around a 2 meter circle, which is now centred on your head. I was trying to aim for your weapon but you held it so close to your face that I missed.’Well that was annoying, but the benefits far outweighed the inconvenience. Now, your rifle was much more stealthy, and you wouldn’t need to answer any stupid questions the other two were clearly eager to ask. They were truly staring at your gun now, amazed by the bright blue coloration and high velocity of its bullet. ‘By the Goddess, you’ll have to show me how that works!” Varren, having run back after your shot said (Fat chance). Fiores was nodding approvingly. ‘Well, count me impressed. Let’s carry on. The captives need us.’ Susie notes one more thing before you carry on. ‘I have one cast of dispel available, if you need it cast, just tap my shoulder.’The captives were from a merchant caravan taken two days ago. The rat men use them for ancient murine rituals, slave labour, or just plain ransom bargaining chips. The guild was well known for rescuing all captives within a certain radius of Mura, or at least bringing back their bodies (except for that one time the corrupt mayor had a deal with slavers, but he was lynched shortly after). As you enter the cave, Fiores lights a torch and you loot the dead sentry.(1/2)

Quickly, you rip open Varren’s bag, easy to do since he insists on being in front of you because He’s ‘got all the armour.’ He tried to turn around, but your grip on the bag was stronger. ‘Hey, what’s up with you?’ Ignoring his protests, you rummage around his bag to find a book and pencil. You’ve never been so glad to see paper in your life, even when you were sending letters home during your deployments. ‘Wait, that’s my journal! Give it back!’ Luckily, his displeasure was only made known verbally instead of physically, so you were able to turn to an empty page and start writing. Alone we are easy pickings: it’s their home turf. Its their home turf: these overgrown mice are getting soft and lazy around here. They are not exactly prepared for the Big Old Mean Tunnel Rat hunting them. Do you have a dagger? They all look closely at the journal after you stick it out with one hand and point to it, their rookie brains trying to understand basic tactics. Susie in particular looks confused. ‘No idea what a bayonet is but I didn’t think of the fact that explosives could cave in these tunnels, thanks for the reminder.’ Scribbling on Varren’s journal, you ask, ‘Susie, do you have a melee weapon? Pull it out now’ She looks to the side, ‘Oh, right!’ She pulls out a small dagger from her inventory, ensuring that she can defend herself in case of an ambush. As for Fiores, you remove the Goblin Spear from your inventory and shove it into her hands. ‘But I don’t need a...’ Quickly you scribbled ‘Just in case, alright? Hold it’. Finally, you turn to Varren and simply point behind you with your thumb. ‘Are you sure, your leather armour seems pretty-‘ You grab his shoulders before he finishes and look straight into his eyes, giving him a firm nod. Before you give it back, you write one more sentence into his journal. ‘Trust me, and we’ll all get out alive’. (1/2)
With that, Varren stamps out the torch he was holding, plunging everything into darkness. Your advice was useful, the team was now on their toes and started actually taking care of themselves. Fiores even noticed a tunnel above her that no one else had and proceeded to impale a ratman that tried to dive upon her. Eventually, you seemed to reach a meeting room, containing a small table and a rotund ratman wearing a helmet. It wes discussing what to do with the captives with several others until a smaller hooded ratman ran in. ‘Chief! Chief, ‘ere are ‘truders in ‘he ‘unnels! Sound ‘he bells!’Seems like you need to make a move.>what do?Can update a bit more often these next two days, thanks weekend.

>>4713498>>4713530>>4713542>>4713989Sensing an opportunity, you tap Varren on the shoulder. In the small tunnel you’re hidden in there is just enough light for the rest of the team to see your hands, so you raise your left and count down from 5. As your index finger folds, Varren lets out a cry and you charge forward, firing a shot at the chief’s head as you enter. You move to the side as Varren and Fiores surge forward, hip firing at as many ratmen as possible. Varren chopped down one you staggered with a hit to the abdomen and Fiores threw her spear at another before punching it’s throat. In short order, the four ratmen around the table were all down. However, the fifth who just entered screeched in panic and ran. You shot through its leg and it fell, turning to face you on the ground. ‘Hol’ on, I’ll lea’ you ‘o cap’ives, ‘lease s’are me!’ You reloaded your rifle and pointed it at the rat’s head. After a quick interrogation of the cowardly scout, along with the rest of your team looting the bodies of the others, you were headed down another tunnel and found the captives you were looking for...Except that the cavern they were in was on full alert. The guards were watching the tunnel you were coming through and were hiding behind the captives, knives at their throats. Luckily, you brought the injured Ratman with you, unless those two archers had damn good aim, you living shield will take the arrows instead of you. At this point, your mounting stress of this mission has reached a breaking point at the sight of the hostages, reminding you of your past POW rescue missions. ‘No’ one ste’ closer, manthings! Your grip on the injured captive tightened and all you could focus on was the terrified faces of the man, woman and Goddamned CHILD in the custody of these things.A few seconds later, which felt more like an hour, you finally could hear Susie’s voice, if only because she grabbed your shoulder. ‘Close your eyes! >>4716214>>4715597>>4715280>>4715146>12You glanced behind you in an admittedly worried manner. ‘One of you, maybe Susie! Do something!’ Then you glared at the 4...5...7 ratmen in front of you, excluding your own captive. ‘You all look smart! Let the prisoners go and you’ll live! Just ask your buddy here what happened to your chief!’ With that, they started to converse among themselves. Behind you, your team also started to discuss, but you couldn’t hear them. Blind!’ Although squeezed them shut, your eyes still fell victim to a white flash. You had never used flashbangs in the War, but you used a helluva lot of grenades, and this spell sounded just like one...And you opened your eyes to find yourself in a bunker, VC in front of you disoriented by the grenade screaming, the POWs you were trying to save were screaming too. You couldn’t shoot, you didn’t trust yourself to shoot not when they were too close. So you drew your combat knife, (why was it so long?) and surged forwards. You slashed open the throat of one, gutted another and pushed a prisoner behind you. Your squad mates followed suit, one brutalising the gooks with fists and another slicing up with a longsword (where the hell did he get that?). Even your medic was in on it, carving one open with her own dagger. Soon you were taking down the last one, who’s vision had cleared and was aiming a rifle at you. You sliced the gun in half before lunging at the man, stabbing with such force the both of you were on the ground.Simultaneously pushing yourself up and shoving your blade deeper, you got on your knees. Then you stabbed again, and again, just like the old days, confirming kills. But with each stab, the body beneath you became less and less human, and more murine. Then your vision cleared and you were back in a cave, your team staring at your handiwork.‘Yes?’ You stood up slowly, tilting your head at them. ‘Nothing! Erm, good job!’ ‘Yeah, maybe you should’ve been a swordsman too! Not that your aim is bad-‘ ‘It’s almost like you have your own magic! It makes my spells pale in comparison!’ At that moment you realise that you somehow took down 4 of them with just your arming sword. You even have a shallow gash in your chest armour, from one fighting back. How did you not notice? Whatefer the case, the captive family is safe now, if a bit terrified and the ratman threat was eliminated.Well, except for one loose end. You looked to the original wounded scout, whom you shoved down and charged over when the blinding spell occurred.>What do?>Anything to say to your team on the way back?

Gonna be updating a bit later, 6 hours approximately.
Another delay, couple more hours.
>>4719497>signs of a dying quest
>>4719786Possibly correct, a 6 hour delay turned into a 24 hour one but I am FINALLY writing. I’m grateful to have players at all at this point.I’ll try to do a burst of updates over the next few days to get our Veteran to the capital, then I’ll end this thread and write a new one once I figure out how to be a more consistent QM
>>4716915>>4716917>>4716972>>4717078>>4717303>>4717943After cutting the captives loose and repurposing them for your new captive as well as thoroughly looting the area, you head back to Mura. On the way, you decided to interrogate it further to satisfy your shot nerves. ‘Where’re the rest of you? If you don’t know who’re you working with?’‘ere’s no one else! Was jus’ ‘rying to acquire food. Spare me! Will work for you!’ Fiores waves her hand nonchalantly. ‘Don’t bother. These things tend to work in small bandit clans when they’re not part of the Dwarven empire. According to the guild they don’t form groups larger than twenty most of the time, since they get too disorgamised and end up backstabbing each other in groups beyond that size.’ Well, that’s the first time someone has been interesting to talk to in this team!‘Ratmen live with Dwarves?’ From what you recall the Dwarves in Timmy’s game were very solitary and xenophobic. This time Susie turns to you. ‘Indeed, the rats handle all the agile and laborious work, like construction of taller buildings and scouting large caverns. However, they are second class citizens and generally aren’t found in leadership positions. Somehow, find it very difficult to trust other beings, even their own kind. Which is why only Dwarves are patient enough to work with them.’Nodding thoughtfully, the rest of the trip was spent inspecting the captives conditions and hearing their side of the story. Once you reached town, you asked: ‘Where can I find an alchemist? They’re the ones who have access to black powder right?’ This time Varren answers, ‘Oh, my uncle is one! He lives in the village and says he’s about to get a shipment of the stuff tomorrow. He says hon one has any idea what to do with it though, so he’s getting instructions to discover it’s properties and how to best use it.’It was already evening, but you still needed to turn in the quest before you were free. The guild taxed most of the equipment you found however, and your team had to choose what to keep. A few things catch your eye, along with what’s already in your inventory. What loot will you keep?>Green Camo Cloak, fits well over your armour.>Telescope, with greater magnification than your M21’s attached scope.>Small targe, can be worn on forearm while aiming your gun.>Kill threshold reached! It was one of the few items that you had only fond memories of, the peaceful hours spent admiring the scenery while waiting for a high-value target on a high ridge or hill. When it wasn’t burnt to a crisp or littered with bodies, the country was truly beautiful. If only it wasn’t inhabited by commies and mosquitos. You even called in a couple favours to have it brought home, Timmy always loved looking through it and calling out distant objects. Although this telescope is far simpler than your old binocs, there’s no denying you’ll still see any threats coming from a literal mile away.Your decision made, you picked the cloak and your share of the quest reward. The clerk takes the 50% of the loot as is the guild’s due, but hands you a small and light bag. ‘A handsome reward, for a task well performed.’ Opening it up causes your inventory to open and the small yellow coins within to float into it, bringing your total to 260g, from the 60g you had saved up. There was also a small coupon within, which you had to actually pull out, reading ‘free stay and bath at tavern’. You figure this will be useful for your trip to the alchemist tomorrow morning. As the rest of your team sorted out their items, trying to decide what to give up, you waved them goodbye. ‘Pleasure doing business with y’all. Good luck and be careful. Especially you Varren!’Susie and Fiore waved back while Varren simply scratches the back of his head sheepishly. You head back to the tavern for a bath and a bed, glad to finally put the quest’s events behind you. After getting cleaned up, you store all your armour in a corner of your room, but kept your sword and sniper rifle next to your bed. However, although you were done for the day, the day was not done with you. Having to kill once again in so long, having to struggle so hard to keep both your team and the hostages alive, all reminded you of more difficult times. Eventually you simply placed the M21 under the pillow, albeit with the magazine still on the nightstand, allowing you to finally drift off to sleep…Even asleep, your mind had much to think about.>roll 1d20 best of 3 for PTSD Points!

>>4721994>>4722044>>4722111>20 again, wowYou remembered your previous rescue mission, yet it was not a nightmare, in fact it was one the best moments in your life as a matter of fact. No matter what the government did, whatever atrocities your generals ordered, you just wanted to get your squad home safe. And on that day, you succeeded. It was a messy mission, Kevin’s leg got blasted and was later amputated, Mark’s hand got shot and never quite stopped shaking. However, no one died, and you saved enough POWs to create a whole new platoon. The memory of victory calms your mind. Then you dreamed of charging through another bunker, shooting VC and Ratmen alike. You worked with old allies and new, saving dozens from torture and death. Slicing and stabbing in equal measure, you tore through rooms with a mix of grenades, spells and bullets. Cutting soldiers and civilians alike loose with your sword. As you ran out of the bunker, rescuers and the rescued following behind, the bright sunlight blinded you...When you opened your eyes again, you were back in bed, light streaming through a window onto your face. Whatever would come this day, you were ready for it. >You feel determined! 7/5 PTSD points available with a +2 to all rolls for the day.(1/2)
You headed downstairs, but this time instead of a couple of curious glances, the whole tavern was looking at you. Feeling uneasy, you slowly walked out of the tavern, only to find your team from yesterday standing in front of you. Each of them was carrying an article of clothing.‘Uh... good morning?’ Fiores spoke up first. ‘We wanted to thank you for yesterday. Get you out of the clothes you’ve been wearing from another world.’ Susie went next. ‘If not for you, that would’ve gone much worse, after hearing the rumours around town. We figured it was the least we could do for one of the Chosen.’Varren went last. ‘The clothes will probably fit you, if they don’t we’ll head back to Ye Olde Supply Shop to get new ones.’ You were suddenly reminded that you had never gotten new clothes since you arrived 2 days ago. You didn’t even change out. Even though you took a bath last night, you still went to sleep in sweaty, unlaundered shirt and pants. You were really lucky there were no bloodstains on them (though you can’t say the same for your armour).‘Huh, never thought about it. I guess I can finally fit in.’ At that, Susie covered her mouth, Fiores looked to the side, and Varren scratched his head (guy must have dandruff or something) and spoke up.‘About that, the family you saved couldn’t stop talking about you, particularly the child. Everyone in this town, if they didn’t believe in you being the chosen one before, definitely knows who you are now. Your anonymity is pretty much gone.’Susie gave a chuckle. ‘Well, at least no one knows your name. It was actually really rude of us not to ask come to think of it. Mind telling us?’>Write in a name Or>Nunya Business, kids.

You headed off to the alchemist, waving them goodbye, until a young man ran up to you. ‘Ah! Greetings sir! Your description matches that of the local bishop. Do you mind showing me your right shoulder?’Looking at him, you subconsciously covered it, giving yourself away. ‘Well, that settles it. I am a courier who rode here from the capital to hand you a missive from the capital! You are to head there as soon as you can!’ With that, he hands you a small letter, which you decide to read later‘I recommend taking a quest from the guild to get there, you’ll earn coin and travel for free!’‘And why can’t I just use your horse?’‘Ah, about that... I’ll be staying here for a bit on account of it... suffering an unfortunate injury...’‘You got ambushed? Is someone after us?’‘No... it just tripped and broke a leg when I tried a shortcut, sorry. You should mark yourself down for a quest immediately, they need time to prepare provisions for you.’After staring at him dumbfoundedly for a few seconds, you headed to the guild as recommended, while he headed back in the direction of the town stables. The clerk was there again, putting a hand to his chin as he saw you approach. ‘You have little choice in your next destination, but luckily your means of getting there still has some variety. I will offer you some. They are ppall headed to the capital, it is up to you which you will join.’He brought out another three quests, this time Adventurer level, one just above seeker level he explains. ‘Ordinarily you would not be allowed to participate in these, yet a formal promotion at this time would be inconvenient. Hence, you will receive this. Your reputation deserves it.’ He hands you a small tag that reads: Probational Adventurer. It easily fits in a pocket, saving inventory space.‘All of these assignments are, unusually, expected to reach the capital simultaneously. You need only choose based off of preference for what to do on the way.’>”A Policemen convoy is headed to a village on the way to pick up criminals to be sent to a maximum security prison at the capital. Guards are wanted to repel bandits which are likely to rescue them.”>”A Construction company headed straight to the capital, but must repair a bridge along the way, which happens to be right in troll territory.“>”A surveying team of scholars is taking a regional census, they must scout out one more area before returning to their academy at the capital. The name given to the unknown and the anonymous, a name given to the nameless fallen. ‘John Doe, you can all call me John Doe.’Of course, they didn’t think anything of it. Fiores gave a small nod and spoke. ‘Well, it’s been an honour to know you sir. Maybe once we’re stronger, we’ll cross paths again.’ So you received your new clothes and stored them in your inventory. Then, we’ll shoot some trolls and guard the construction team.In the meantime, I’ll we taking feedback and suggestions on this thread on how to make the quest better, since I realise just how little I’ve interacted with the players over the course of this quest.
