The Digital World was born mere months before its collapse. However, these months translated to billions of cycles in the Digital World, allowing for the evolution of countless digital entities.

In a last-ditch attempt to save its progress, the Digital World created the ARK, a Virtual Machine that would continue the processes while the Digital World attempts to self-repair.

The ARK contains a mere 100 Gigabytes, a tenth of the Digital World's 1 Terabyte capacity. It is divided into three layers and today, we will be inspecting the Ark's Second layer.

The second layer is comprised of a deep ocean which contains very dense, nutrient-rich data. However, because the data is partially filtered through the first layer of the ARK, the sheer density of the data can corrode digiforms that try to absorb it directly.

The dense data evaporates and turns into digital clouds, which stream down undifferentiated data from above.

A large mountain protects the fledgeling digiforms from the corrosive waves of the ultra-dense data ocean, and within the mountains is a vast, sprawling cave system, ripe for colonizing.

However, the cave system is mostly devoid of data so any digiform that attempts to colonize it must adapt to its barrenness.

Next, we will look at the species that were exported from the first layer and imported into the second layer.

Filter Salas have adapted to be much more data-light, requiring less data consumption but also being a lot dumber. It's a fair trade-off though, since all it ever does is lazily float around feeding on dark clouds, filtering the data with their natural anti-virus, and excreting excess filtered air to propel them forward. As such, the skies are usually pleasantly clear with these dudes around.

One of the simplest conversions made to itself via machine data was the conversion of its smokestack into a pressure-powered cannon. Although very deadly at full charge, it rather inefficient, as a single shot will use up all of it's smoke, and must wait for quite some time for it to build back up. It has also gained configurable vents on its sides to slowly release excess smoke when it reaches full capacity, as to not overload itself.

As Steam Bunsengeysers constantly excrete excess steam data from their smokestacks, Jawlals that bind to them usually bind permanently, forming a sort of mutual parasitism: while the the jawlal feeds on the vapor data the geyser excretes, it in turns gives it a share of the data it absorbs passively, creating a net increase of data for both sides. Additionally, jawlals develop slits in their bodies to rid the vapor they can't fit in their bodies.

Magnet Salas that fall into the data sea are doomed to dissolve into data, not even able to be saved by their antivirus program against the massive corroding tides. However, due to their magnetic nature, trace amounts of their collective data often find themselves drifting closer and closer together within the data sea. When the data inevitably converges, it usually results in a highly corrupt and unstable jumble of code called DATALUMPS that are just vaguely reminiscent of their previous forms. They have consequently adapted to feed directly off of sea data, but they cannot exist outside of the sea without dissolving back into raw data.

Defenders further speciate into HS types and NHS types.

HS Types pursue ever stronger defense, causing them to develop glistening golden armor that can defend against extremely strong attacks.

NHS Types develop an analytical mono-eye that allows them to analyze enemy attacks and find the best way to defend against it. However, this apparatus takes a lot of energy to operate, causing NHS types needing a lot of downtime or to rely on previous experience.

Attacker types have developed a powerful steam-powered cannon that can deliver payloads of damaging insect-type data to their opponents.

The Gunlancers are able to condense their Lance's dark energies into a single wad by rapidly moving their wheel assembly back and forth across the lance, "locking" the dark energy into a linear trajectory as they do so. Unfortunately, they have no choice how soon the wad will be discharged, so hitting moving targets is somewhat difficult.
The back-and-forth movement of the wheel assembly requires kinetic energy, which is generated by a pair of pedals and then transferred to the wheel assembly through energy pathways inside the lance.

Digiforms inside enter hibernation as their data degenerates and their forms regress into "egg" shapes. The Lost Garden cares for them in this state, gently sucking out nutrients as they sleep for eternity.

Leapshrooms develop an exterior of old decayed wood, allowing them to stay longer in a Lost Garden's territory before being turned into an egg. It seems that some will occasionally venture in and steal an egg to eat and this lets the Leapshroom survive without eating poop for a while.
