As you stare down The Cowl’s arch-nemesis, surrounded by the Kraaho of Undertown, the thought of interrogating him crosses your mind. But there’s no guarantee of how effective it would be, and nor would there be any if you were worried about the credibility of his words. Last time, you managed to get him to lead you to The Cowl after he’d been brainwashed, but that’s only because he wanted to. It was within his best interests to do so. This time, you’re not so sure.

“We should get moving if we’re going to track Ester through these tunnels.” you declare.

“So we’re staying underground?” Red asks, while stealing quick glances at the corners of the room. At first, you were confused as to what he was searching for, but then you noticed that his eyes rested upon a single point longer than it did the others as they darted around the room. A thick crumbling support beam, groaning under the massive weight that it had most likely been holding since the shelter’s creation, possibly before your time. Red must be worrying over the structural integrity of these tunnels. But with your combined might, you don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to dig your way out of a cave-in. Even if you’d been buried under several hundred tons of rock.

“It’s better than going topside. We can’t risk being held up by Sublimino’s goons now that he’s taken control of the vigilante community.” you reason, while folding your arms across your chest.

“He’s right.” Charmy agrees. “And now that the Plumber’s Military Fleet has been compromised, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sublimino brought down the hammer as soon as we peeked up from our hidey-hole.”

“We’d have to go up eventually.” Gwen inferred, in her usual nagging tone. “Whoever kidnapped Ester, I doubt that they plan to stay underground for much longer.”

“That’s why we need to catch them before they can get to that energy core. If we move fast, then we could-” you say, before quickly trailing off. A stray thought strikes you mid-sentence, and you are suddenly at a loss for words. “Wait a sec. Where’s Argit?” you ask yourself. You haven’t seen him since the fight.

As this very same realization dawns upon your allies, their eyes go wide with shock as they dart around the room, in search of the little anthro porcupine alien. But all of a sudden, a piercing squeal draws your attention to the lower left corner of the room. Emerging from the crowd, is a large, burly Kraaho holding Argit by the collar of his jacket as he kicked and squirmed.

“Looks like the little rat tried to slink away. Classic Argit.” Charmy scoffed, the corner of her lips curling into a small grin.

Keeping Argit on a leash is already tough enough as is, and you’re not sure if you'd be able manage it in the heat of battle. For a brief moment, Gwen’s suggestion from earlier crosses your mind, and you entertain the thought for a short while. But it is a bit cruel, even if Argit is a bit of a scumbag.

How will you handle this?

>”If you behave, then I might be able to pull a few strings at Plumber HQ. Erase a few petty crimes here and there.”
>”I should’ve known that you’d try to run at the first sign of trouble. Would you be willing to stay and help out if I offered to pay you?”
>”You want to stay? Fine. We’ll just take what we need, then.” (Pluck the quills from his back.)
>”I’ve technically got your DNA, so I don’t think we’ll be requiring your services any longer.” (Let him go.)

With a deep groan, you casually cross the room to approach Argit, despite the stares and murmurs from the surrounding Undertown denizens. As soon as he spots you, however, he ceases his immature thrashing and tucks his limbs closer to his chest. When you’d first met him, Argit thought you were a nobody, and he treated you as such. But over time, he came to realize how powerful you’d become, in both the physical and authoritative sense. And now, he regards you with the respect and deference of someone befitting your role in the Plumber Organization. It’s a good feeling, but you personally don’t care how someone like Argit views you.

“Chin up, Argit.” you remark in a lighthearted tone, clearly referencing the fact that his head had lowered considerably when faced with your imposing visage. “If you behave, then I might be able to pull a few strings at Plumber HQ. You know, erase a few petty crimes here and there.” you offer, maintaining that very same friendly demeanor from before. “However, if you insist on leaving, I’ve still technically got your DNA. So I don’t think that we’ll be requiring your services any longer.” you propose as a valid alternative.

“What? Just the petty ones?” Argit crosses his arms with an irritated look. “Can’t you throw in a few of the major ones too? I’ve still got multiple life sentences to serve out, man.” he protests.

“You’re lucky I’m not throwing you in prison.” you threaten, while narrowing your eyes. At this, Argit scoffs. Not exactly the reaction you were expecting.

“Oh please. I heard you talking about how the Plumbers were all brainwashed earlier. You couldn’t process me if you wanted to.” he says with a cocky grin.

“We can negotiate the terms later.” you spit out in frustration. “If I could get the Vreedle Brothers into the Plumber Academy, then I can scrub a few crimes from your permanent record.” you argue. And considering Argit’s contemplative expression, your argument must have been a convincing one.

“...Okay, you’ve got a deal. Just make sure you keep your end of the bargain.” he points a finger at you.

“Sure. So long as you can manage to stay alive that long.” you say tauntingly.

“Oh, I will. You have no idea how hard I am to kill.” he proclaims with the utmost confidence. “Go ahead, I dare you to try it.” he goads you.

“I...I’m not gonna try to kill you Argit.” you say flatly, thrown off by his misplaced bravado.

“Pfft. Suit yourself. Most people would kill for a shot at tanning my hide.” he casually brushes you off. “No more freebies from here on out, though.” he declares with a finger raised to the air.

With a shrug, you ask the Kraaho to release the bipedal rodent, and he does so, by allowing him to fall to the ground as if he were a filthy object. Argit lets out an audible yelp as he plummets to the ground. Once he brushes himself off, you and the others depart from the sanctuary, swearing to The Cowl and the Kraaho to bring back their influential leader.

-----------

Upon following Red’s instructions, you and Trixy were able to calibrate your sensors to detect the residual radiation being emitted by Ester. The trail leads you down a series of sprawling, interconnected tunnels, each one more confusing to traverse than the last. It would’ve been useful to have a map, but with the back to back tremors from earlier, it’s likely that there had been multiple cave-ins inside the tunnel system, effectively blocking your path with a wall of rubble. And after running into multiple dead-ends on your excursion, you found that your theory had been correct, after all.

With each and every failure to chart a proper path through the tunnels, you felt tensions rise and morale fall within your group. Most of that, however, could be attributed to Argit’s complaining the whole way through. Maybe you really should’ve left him behind.

But before the group could collectively harden their resolve to throttle the fresh-mouthed porcupine, your sensors go wild all of a sudden.

“Whoa...the radiation levels are spiking!” you announce to your group. “These readings are insane.” you reiterate while scanning the room for any trace of your target.

“That would explain the heat…” Red groaned while wiping a pale, viscous fluid from his forehead.

“Shouldn’t we be wearing protective suits or something?” Gwen asks in a panicked tone.

“Relax, squirt. I cast a protective spell a while back. We should be safe, so long as we don’t get too close to the source of the radiation.” Charmy explains with an annoyingly laid back expression.

“I think it’s a little too late for that…” Argit squeaks, as he warily backs away from you. And that’s when you feel it. A thick, glob of green ooze descending from the ceiling on a thin string, leaving a faint, emerald streak along your armor as it slowly trails down the Techadon platemail.

Upon tracing its origin, you find a colony of spider-like creatures dangling precariously from above. Their appearance is somewhat similar to those creatures that you fought in Elena’s lab, but they’re much larger, and much more ferocious. Their intimidating fangs and menacing pincers are a very new addition, along with their increased size. Just one of them is easily taller than you by a few feet. These guys must be an evolved form of those bugs. But why are they down here in the first place?

(Cont.)
>>
“Here they come!” Argit alarms you, snapping you back to reality. There’s so many of them, chittering and clambering over one another en masse. How’d they manage to evade your sensors for so long?

What will you do?

>Group them together and have Argit fire off all of his quills into the creatures.
>Collapse the tunnel and double back towards the exit.
>Push past them, whilst covering the rear with suppressive fire from your wrist cannons.
>Transform into an alien.(Which one?)
>Use one of your Viral Forms.(Which one?)
>Try out one of your newest aliens.(Battery Ram, Argit’s species, Wildfire?(His icon looks different, somehow))
>Brandish your sword and make yourself a wall between these bugs and your allies.
>Swap to your Flame Aura and roast these pests with some concentrated fire blasts.

Upon sorting through your ever-growing collection of aliens, you notice that there are a few new ones, as well an icon that vaguely resembles Wildfire. Why’s his icon look different?

And as that thought crosses your mind, the icon lights up and starts blinking. Almost as if Trixy had been begging you to pick him. This must be her doing, then.

Oh well...here goes nothing.

With a decisive slap of your hand, your transformation floods the tunnels with a burst of violet light, blinding the hostile insectoid creatures and your friends without discrimination. At first, the process feels the exact same. The growth of thick patches of fur sprouting out from underneath your skin. The fangs and the claws erupting from your fingers and mouth. But then, you notice that your muscles have grown far beyond that of what could be considered normal for Wildfire’s physique. The same could be said for your claws. You feel a coat of liquid metal weaving between your bones and molding around your hands and arms. Your blood boils and sloshes around in your veins, the speed of its circulation being greatly accelerated by some sort of pump extending out from your elbow to your back.

You’ve become Wildfire!

As the light fades, you let out a fearsome, bone-shaking roar, surprising both you and everyone else present in the tunnel at the same time.

“Whoa…” you remark, upon examining your new form. Your voice is noticeably deeper, and your physique is vaguely similar to that of a bear’s. What’s happening to you?

“It would appear that your Eczemite form has gone through puberty in the short time that you haven’t used him. He should be much stronger now.” Trixy explains with a telepathic message.

“No kidding?! Let’s test him out, then.” you declare with excitement in your voice, flexing your metallic fingers.

What will you do?

>Hit the insectoid creatures with a blast of molten lava.
>Superheat your claws and charge headfirst into the horde.
>Breathe out a jet of flame and use to create an obstructive fire barrier between you and the enemy.
>Rip a chunk of rock out of the ground, pump some lava into it and chuck it right into the middle of them.
>Collapse the tunnel by melting the rock around you.

As you watch the swarm of insects scrambling towards you and your friends with their pincers and scythe-like hands raised to the air, poised to strike, a deep, guttural growl wells up from the pit of your stomach, coming out in the form of a low rumble. Simultaneously, the liquid within your arm’s canisters begins to bubble and boil, heating up exponentially in tandem with your rage. And almost instinctively, you plunge your hand into the ground before you, causing it to crack and crumble when challenged by your superior might. Shortly afterwards, glowing red cracks begin to spread throughout the ground, signifying your superheating the rock below, until it melts into magma.

Clearly intimidated by this display, your friends(and Argit) back away from you slowly. A smart decision, really, considering that the magma trail is spreading, specifically in a line, headed directly towards the giant insects. And before they even have time to react, a massive magma geyser erupts from below, showering them in lava and melting straight through their chitinous armor. A series of ear-piercing shrieks fill the cave, assaulting your sensitive mammalian ears as the creatures make one last desperate plea, shortly before collapsing into a pile of smoldering ash. You almost feel bad for them. However, you quickly shrugged it off after reminding yourself that they had been literal killing machines, grown in test tubes by one of your oldest foes.

To your surprise, the insects that hadn’t been caught up in the magma eruption had moved to the walls and ceiling, so as to avoid the same fate as their brethren.

“Oh no, you don’t!” Red shouts, as he races past you while slamming his hand down onto his Omnitrix core. And in a burst of crimson light, he transforms into…Gravelanche! You haven’t seen that guy in a minute. You hope he knows how to use him right. One wrong move and Red might end up bringing this tunnel down on top of you. But lucky for you, Red ends up surprising you.

With a wave of his hand, Red seizes control of the earth around the insects, causing thick, curving pillars to shoot out from the walls and ceiling, crushing anything unlucky enough to be in their path, as well as creating a blockade to stagger the swarm. It almost reminds you of a wild thorn bush, tangled and treacherous in its natural architecture. They’ll have a real tough time getting through that.

While you were distracted by Red’s impressive display, another flash of light flickers in the corner of your eye. The color, this time, was pink. Definitely Gwen’s.

And right when you turned to see which alien she had chosen, you were surprised to see that she’d selected a Lepidopterran. The rapid wingbeat and raspy voice should’ve been a dead giveaway.

She then proceeded to spew pink slime from her four eyestalks, firing them in rapid succession as if they were artillery cannons. The slime covered the approaching insects, as well as a good portion of the tunnel and the creatures stuck between Red’s makeshift barricade. What exactly was the point of that?

Gwen met your gaze with a smile, apparently aware of your confusion. “That stuff’s highly flammable, you know.” she said with confidence. And after another second, you feel a swell of pride as you catch on to Gwen’s devious plot.

“Let’s light ‘em up, then!” you exclaim, while facing your palm towards the swarm and unleashing a torrent of flame from the port at the center of it. Unsurprisingly, the mindless attack drones don’t do much to avoid the flame, allowing you to attack a large clump of them all at once. However, you weren’t expecting such a volatile reaction from the slime!

Without warning, the parts of the creatures that Gwen had covered in ooze were now spontaneously combusting. Less of a sizzle, and more of a pop!

If one had a little bit on their shoulder, the resulting reaction would claim its entire arm. A cluster of legs, maybe. An entire torso. The carnage was unforeseen, but certainly not unwelcome. It made short work of the swarm, especially when they would clump up in Gwen’s carefully placed sticky traps. Within only a few minutes, you and your team made quick work of the insects. Charmy joined in by supporting you with pyromancy spells. Argit contributed here and there, but only when one of them got too close for him to ignore. Despite firing off an impressive amount of his quills, you didn’t see any visible shrinkage in the limited supply that coated his skin.

Once it was all over, you and your friends cancelled your transformations, but not before Red removed the barricade. The charred insects that had melded with the rock now slumped to the ground, lifeless, but still twitching, much to Gwen’s chagrin.

In the back of your mind, you notice Trixy filing away the data for Wildfire’s Viral Form. You don’t think you’ll be able to access it anymore. In its place, you find Hack N’ Slash’s profile.

>”Hey Trixy, are there any other aliens in the Omnitrix that can experience physical changes?”
>”Why’d you take away Wildfire’s Viral Form?”

It's posts like these that just make my day. Glad you're enjoying the quest, anon. The pace of updates have slowed down quite a bit from when it first began, but I'm still passionate about continuing this story as long as I can(Without letting the story or the characters fall flat, of course). Thanks for sticking around this long, guys.

“Hey Trixy, are there any other aliens in the Omnitrix that can experience physical changes?” you ask aloud.

“I do believe that ‘Spin Cycle’ has yet to fully mature. I would expect a change in his physiology to be in your near future.” Trixy reports in a flat tone. You had no idea that your aliens could age. Maybe they’re aging alongside you?

“Why’d you take away Wildfire’s Viral Form, then?” you internally ponder.

“Due to recent changes in his physiology, I do not think that it would be wise to apply Elena’s virus to his genetic sample. More testing will be required, and if I am unable to find a useful application for his unique biological reaction to the virus, then I cannot justify using his ‘Viral Form’.” Trixy explains, sounding more invested now.

So him going through puberty changed his genetic structure too much? You guess that kind of makes sense.

“Great work, everyone.” you say, while turning to congratulate your team. “We must be getting close to whoever nabbed Ester.”

“I’d hope so. I don’t think that I can handle fighting anymore bugs.” Gwen declares, seemingly queasy from having to watch the charred, lifeless bugs writhe and wriggle on the ground.

“Really? I’d take bugs over the majority of the vigilante community. At least we don’t have to hold back against these guys.” you shrug with a laugh.

Your team takes a moment to consider this, only to find that they wholeheartedly agree with you on that front.

----------------

A little while later, you make your way further down the tunnel. Without any natural lighting, you might have lost your sense of time, had it not been for the Omnitrix’s internal clock. After being questioned by Argit, multiple times, about whether or not you were confident in your sense of direction, you began to doubt yourself, as well as the accuracy of Trixy’s radiation detector. However, all of that doubt is pushed aside once you notice a bright orange light at the end of the tunnel.

“Warning: Massive increase in radiation levels detected.” Trixy alerts your group, utilizing your suit’s speakers without permission. You wouldn’t have said no, anyway.

“How’s that spell holding up?” Gwen asks Charmy.

“It shouldn’t have worn off, but I’m recasting it now, just to be safe.” Charmy proclaims as she walks with her eyes closed, muttering some incantation under her breath.

“Is it just me, or is it getting hot in here?” Red says, fanning himself profusely with his left hand.

He’s right. There’s been a massive spike in temperature, too. You remember learning that the Kraaho were hot-blooded, tungsten-based lifeforms that came from an extremely hot planet. To them, the Earth’s temperatures are unusually frigid. At any given time, you’ve only ever seen Ester and her people wearing parkas and winter gear. It’s the only way they can survive here.

“Do people really live here…?” Gwen inquires, panting heavily due to the humidity.

“Yeah, and it’s only gonna get worse the further we go in. I recommend you pick an alien that can take the heat.” you announce while increasing your pace. You just hope that you aren’t too late to save Ester.

“Not everyone can do that, y’know…!” Argit whines.

Upon reaching the end of the tunnel, you’re greeted by the sight of a volcanic cavern. Aside from the small craters filled with magma pools and the seemingly infinite flow of molten lava flowing from a channel in the wall, you see a massive generator of some sort in the middle of the room. It stands at about 9 meters tall and 4 meters wide. And standing at the base of it, is a well-dressed child with an unusually bulbous head and a tan complexion, a curvaceous young woman with blonde hair tied into a ponytail, and an assembly line of advanced robots, currently occupied with a series of tasks that can be summarized as “grunt work”.

“What’s the hold up!? I want that wall demolished in the next three minutes!” he shouts angrily, while pointing at some robots in the corner of the room. All of them seem to be equipped with reinforced shielding to provide some defense against the heat and radiation. And you’re pretty sure that the drill that they’re struggling with is the one that the Kraaho told you about, earlier.

Suddenly, the unprotected young woman twists her head at an unnatural angle in order to face you, her eyes held wide open to display her unusual pupils. A quick scan reveals that she’s an android of some sort. There’s absolutely nothing human about her.

“Sir, we have intruders.” she scowls, narrowing her eyes as she scans you and your group. The young boy whips his head around upon hearing the warning, giving you a chance to analyze his appearance and...wait. Is that...Billy Billions!? You'd recognize those buck teeth anywhere.

“Great! As if I didn’t have enough on my plate, already.” he groans, while pinching the bridge of his nose. Despite the heat, his clothes aren't damp in the slightest. “Well? What are you waiting for!?” he shouts to his artificial cronies, who appear to be just as confused as you are. “Get rid of them! You too, Mazuma.” Billy exclaims as he glances over towards the blonde android. She nods and races towards you without a second thought, leading the charge as the rest of the robots quickly trail behind her, weapons in hand.

(Cont.)
>>
On an interesting note, your lip reading software catches Billy murmuring something about “bugs being worthless”.

And at that very moment, when the android named Mazuma and Billy's killer robots were almost upon you, you realize just how many of them had been present in this cavern. Some were mining for minerals, others were analyzing the generator and energy core, while a few of them were busy guarding a hostage in the corner of the room.

“I found Ester!” Charmy shouts as you zoom in on the subdued Kraaho girl.

“Looks like we found our kidnappers, too.” you observe. Time to go to work.

At first, you thought about taking out Billy’s android with a flicker of your wrist cannons. However, an even better idea pops into your head as you examine her core processor. She’s very well-made. So much so that she might be able to handle an advanced AI.

“Wade?” Trixy cautiously mutters. “You couldn’t possibly be thinking of-” she begins to say. But instead of letting her finish, you bolt towards Mazuma, seemingly catching her off guard by diving right past her lightning-fast jab, her right hand clipping the side of your helmet as you circle around her. Not taking a moment to let the impact of her swift movements sink, you maneuver yourself behind her back, grab her arms and bend them behind her lower back at a painful angle. You aren’t even sure if she’s programmed to feel pain, but her irritation and disdain is clearly shown in her expression as shoots a glare in your direction, absolutely brimming with rage and contempt.

Aside from her flawless, doll-like features, her artificial strength gave cause for surprise. Within those dainty looking arms, existed an expertly crafted hydraulics system, held together by magnetic interlocks and covered with silky smooth artificial skin grafts, coated in reactive graphene plating that can turn harder than steel in an instant. Had you not gotten the jump on her, she would have been able to rival your own augmented strength, possibly tearing you limb from limb in the process.

Not wanting to waste this opportunity, you telepathically command a cable to slither out from below your ear, like a synthetic serpent. Releasing her arms simply isn’t an option right now, and you’ll need to act fast in order to start the upload process before the rest of the robots can reach you. But thanks to that scan from earlier, you were able to locate a port beneath her skin that could possibly be used to transfer data. That’ll do nicely.

“Sorry about this, but I really hope my plan works. I’ll try not to delete you completely.” you promise. And before she can give you a response or a frustrated grunt, you insert the cable into her open port and begin the upload.

Trixy clearly had reservations about this whole plan, as she clearly voiced to you, but you just can’t pass up an opportunity like this. Trixy might finally have a body of her own!

“Beginning upload. It will take a moment to slice through her security systems.” Trixy reports. “Security systems breached.” she says, immediately afterwards. “Also, you have multiple incoming hostiles. Take caution.” she warns.

“On it!” you grunt, as you forcefully yank Mazuma around, turning her to face Billy Billions and the incoming army of robots.

“Stop! What do you think you’re doing to my servant!?” Billy erupts as he stamps his foot and throws a tantrum. “Guards! Focus all of your fire on that ruffian. But don’t hit Mazuma!” he commands while pointing a quivering finger in your direction.

Upon hearing this command, your allies move in to cover your flanks, their hands hovering over their Omnitrices in preparation for battle. You, on the other hand, are not as helpless as everyone else assumes you to be. Sure, you might need to keep the suit in place to finish the upload, but Trixy didn’t say anything about you actually having to “wear” the suit.

In one, unnaturally fluid motion, the back of the suit opens up as the Techadon armor plates slide apart, allowing you to slip out through the back. Your positioning of Mazuma was entirely intentional, with this very plan in mind. Due to the placement of your suit, your face should still be hidden from Billy’s sight, giving you time to slip on your spare cloth mask and select an alien.

“I want live updates on that upload, Trixy. If you run into any problems or feel threatened, I’ll try my best to cover you.” you proclaim, whilst selecting Eruptile from your alien roster.

“I do not suspect that they will intentionally damage the android, but I appreciate your support in this.” Trixy responds in a warmer tone.

And in a series of multicolored flashes of light, you and your friends transform into your respective aliens. You aren’t sure what they chose, but you’re confident that they’re smart enough to pick something that doesn’t conflict with the severe weather conditions of this cavern.

You’ve become Eruptile! Now all you have to do is buy Trixy some time to upload herself into Mazuma.

What will you do?

>Tunnel beneath the robots and erupt out of the ground!
>Cover yourself in molten lava and craggy rocks and roll into the robots like a wrecking ball.
>Swallow a mouthful of molten magma and spit it back out in order to form a viscous, superheated sticky trap on the ground.
>Pop a rock into your mouth, sharpen it with your teeth and spit it back out at the robots, bouncing it between them with a series of controlled explosions.
>Roll past the robots and sabotage the generator behind them, forcing it to fall down on top of them.
>Write-in.

Soon after your transformation, approaching robots begin firing upon you with advanced plasma weaponry. Luckily, Trixy’s theory was correct, and none of them appear to be aiming anywhere near Mazuma. Speaking of which, the hostile android is looking unusually docile. Either Trixy locked up her motor functions, or it’s literally taking all of her attention to stave off the advances of your AI. Even with a large portion of Trixy’s concentration being split, your Omnitrix doesn't seem to have lost any functionality or efficiency.

That being said, you should make sure that nothing happens to interrupt the data transfer.

Without hesitation, you bolt towards a nearby lava pool and dive in headfirst. You hadn’t realized it before, but Eruptile is also an excellent swimmer. On an instinctual level, you use your tail as a rudder to propel yourself through the magma, the same way a dolphin would gracefully slip through an ocean current. And in a similar fashion, you leap from the lava pool, curling your body as you dive straight into a spinning roll. Still covered in molten magma, you find that the jagged rocks placed along your path are becoming stuck between the ridges of your scales, like stony spines, just as you had planned.

The robots make a halfhearted attempt to move out of the way, but they didn’t seem to expect their plasma bolts to bounce harmlessly off of your thick hide. And in a spectacularly destructive fashion, bulldoze a large cluster of them, flattening them beneath your bulk and tossing a few into the air. Joining you on your rampage is Gwen(as Fourarms), Red(as Diamondhead), and Charmy(as some sort of giant turtle with the ability to whip up storms). Despite their reinforced armor plating, they don’t seem to be built to take a beating from anything other than blaster fire. Billy most likely wasn’t expecting you to rain on his parade. Not with the majority of Bellwood’s vigilante community gunning for you.

However, this doesn’t stop him from jumping into the fray, with what appears to be a heavily armored piece of wearable mining equipment. The suit is incredibly bulky in design, similar to the heavy loader that Ripley wore in Aliens. I came equipped with a dangerous looking drill, a heavy, metal claw, and a series of explosives that were originally intended for breaking up large mineral deposits. But in this situation, they can easily be repurposed for something far more deadly.

With its surprisingly swift movements, Billy commands the loader to sprint over to your position, where he attempts to crush you with his drill, now rotating and sparking with the potential to run you through completely. You just barely manage to doge out of the way of the attack, but only because of some, thin black projectile impacting the loader’s hull and throwing it off balance at the very last second. Tracing it back to its point of origin, you’re surprised to see Argit covering you and your friends in an impressive display of suppressive fire, as he rapidly fires off his quills from an elevated position. You’re unsure as to whether he assisted you out of kindness, comradery, or for the sole purpose of your mutual interest in self-preservation, but you’re thankful nonetheless.

Billy takes another swing, and another! Little by little, he’s backing you into a corner by throwing the loaders arms out in wide arcs. The only reason you’ve managed to avoid being clobbered so far is due to your ability to swiftly relocate yourself by curling up into a ball and rolling around, or underneath his legs. He isn’t quick enough to stop you, making him increasingly frustrated every time he fails to finish you off.

But then, out of nowhere, two thin red beams trace the loader’s left shoulder, causing it to stumble back as it severs a bundle of cables and tubes that were apparently instrumental to its motor function. Seeing as how the beam came from behind, you and your friends quickly turn to find the source of the attack, only to find Mazuma’s eyes glowing red, still smoking from the aftermath of projecting the lasers. Shortly afterwards, you notice the black cable retracting from Mazuma’s port and receding back into your mask as your empty suit releases her from its grasp. With a blank expression, Mazuma flexes her fingers, rotates her shoulder and kicks out with her leg, almost as if she were stretching for a rigorous exercise. Her eyes, once a threatening shade of crimson, were now a cool, deep shade of purple. Seemingly possessing a newfound clarity, the android, once known as Mazuma, quickly scanned the room, her eyes darting from point to point, refusing to focus on one particular thing any longer than a second. Until finally, her eyes rest upon you, and you alone. And with a warmth that you had never seen in the face of the cold, heartless assassin droid, the beautiful woman gave you a smile that seemed to light up the entire room. As if she had been looking upon the face of a loved one for the first time in years.

“Data transfer complete.” she announces, in Trixy’s voice. You, Billy and the rest of your companions stand motionless before the android, various emotions swimming in your head as she dashes towards you with inhuman speed. And before any of you can react, she leaps into the air, tucks her knees towards her chest and delivers a devastating dropkick to the loader’s chest, knocking it off balance and causing Billy to topple over along with it.

Quickly recovering from her athletic display by executing a brief somersault, Trixy lands beside you with the grace of an Olympic acrobat, flashing another warm smile in your direction as she assumes a combat ready pose.

>”How’s it feel to finally have a body of your own?”
>”Should’ve known you wouldn’t have any trouble in there. Billy’s firewalls never stood a chance.”
>”Is Mazuma still in there somewhere?”
>”Nice moves! What else has she got in there?”

“How’s it feel to finally have a body of your own?” you ask while wiping a bit of molten spittle from your chin.

“Oh, it’s liberating! Exhilarating, even!” Trixy exclaims as she flexes her fingers. “Never before have I experienced physical stimuli...or pain receptors for that matter.” she casually remarks while smothering a small fire on the hem of her shirt with one hand. Any normal person would’ve swatted at it, but Trixy just placed her palm directly over it without a moment of hesitation. “How intriguing…” she smiles, staring at the slightly burned portion of her palm.

“Azmuth is totally gonna freak when he sees you!” you squeal with glee. But before Trixy can respond, her attention is suddenly drawn to Billy Billions as he quickly rises from the ground in his heavy loader. And he looks absolutely pissed!

“Wha…” he whispers at first. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY ROBOT!!?” he shouts, throwing a blind punch in your direction. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t land.

“Do not pretend that she was anything more than your slave.” Trixy chastises him in a sharp tone. “What you created was a shackled artificial intelligence. She had no choice but to worship and obey you. If anything, I would say that we did her a favor.” she proclaims with a defiant glare. And upon hearing that, you notice a series of throbbing veins popping up along the surface of his bulbous head.

Before you know it, Billy is releasing a fierce battle cry, while throwing a series of haymakers your way. Some get dangerously close, but you and Trixy are able to avoid them by executing a series of acrobatic maneuvers. You haven’t seen Mazuma in action yet, but Trixy appears to have a very solid grasp over her motor functions already.

“Although, I must admit, the ultralight materials that you used to form her exoskeleton are quite remarkable. I will have to examine them when I find the time.” Trixy says to herself while casually flipping out of the way of a backhanded swipe from Billy’s drill.

Eventually, Red and Gwen get involved, working together to restrain the heavy loader, with considerable difficulty.

“You’re using too much brute force, Red! Focus on creating crystal constructs in order to restrict his movements.” you call out to your protege. And to your delight, he takes to your advice much faster than you expected him to.

“It’s strange, really.” Trixy begins with a small grin. “I never thought that I would be fighting by your side in a physical form.”

“Consider this as thanks for always being by my side, Trixy.” you say with heartfelt compassion. As her eyes dart over to you, you notice her expression softening, growing warmer still.

“Why, of course, Wade. You are my dearest friend. I would do anything to protect you.” she admits without a hint of shame or embarrassment. “And while Azmuth may never admit it, he trusts you a great deal. As do I.” she says while gesturing towards her voluptuous chest, which you try your best to overlook.

“Then I’ll try not to disappoint you...partner.” you proudly proclaim. And it would seem that your feelings were contagious, as Trixy’s warm smile was now replaced by a wide grin, beaming with pride. But by the time you and Trixy decide to rejoin the fray, Red and Gwen have already managed to subdue Billy Billions. Between the young hero tearing off one of his limbs, and Red causing a cluster of crystals to grow between his joints, the bratty billionaire has been rendered imobile and utterly useless. Simply by plucking him out of the pilot’s chair and encasing him in crystal, the battle was decided.

“Man, you’ve got a LOT of bad guys in your dimension.” Gwen observes.

“Yeah. When do you find time to sleep, man?” Red asks.

Honestly, you really don’t feel like answering that one. Even as we speak, you’re running on fumes. The only sleep you got was when you got knocked out, back in Hong Kong. That’s as close to a power nap as superheroes get.

But luckily, Charmy decided to intervene, making it unnecessary for you to respond. As she waddled over in her turtle form, she carried Ester gingerly in her arms. “She’s got cryo-cuffs on. If she tried to stretch, the frigid temperatures would’ve caused her twiggy little arms to shatter.” Charmy bluntly explained.

“With time, I should be able to remove them.” Trixy chimes in.

“That won’t be necessary.” said a voice coming from the mouth of the tunnel. “We’ll take it from here.” The Cowl declared as he emerged from the tunnel, with a large group of Kraaho trailing behind him. At this time, you and the others felt that it would be appropriate to let your transformation periods come to an end.

“But, I thought you were watching over the alien civilians.” Red considered.

“You earned us a few minutes to breathe. Well, you and our newest ally.” The Cowl says while folding his arms over his chest.

“Who?” you ask.

“It’s Wilderbee. He somehow avoided being mind-controlled by Sublimino, and he continues to do so.” The Cowl says, with as much astonishment as a man of his stoic nature could possibly muster.

Wilderbee!? Seriously?

“Hmm. It is likely that his altered brain chemistry might have a role in making him particularly difficult for Sublimino to influence.” Trixy surmised.

“My thoughts exactly.” you add.

But the question still stands. What will you do with Ester, Billy and the nuclear core?

Well...those are multiple questions.

>Give Ester and the nuclear core to The Cowl and head back home.
>Escort Ester back to the sanctuary and go to meet Wilderbee.
>Transform into Septic Shock and consume the nuclear core.
>Take the nuclear core with you. As long as it’s here, Undertown’s people will be in danger.
>Leave the core here, you can use it as bait in order to take out a large portion of the Vigilante Corps, all at once.

“Mission accomplished.” you declare, while taking Ester from Charmy’s arms. Despite her shallow breathing and pale complexion, the mixed Kraaho girl barely managed to open her eyes, giving you a blank and glassy stare.

“H-h-hey you.” she stammered with a weak smile, still shivering from the effects of the cryo cuffs. “D-didn’t expect to see you h-here.”

“Wendy sent me. She convinced me that it was important. I’m glad she did.” you sincerely admit.

A dry, raspy chuckle escapes Ester’s lips, which always seem to be curled into a sly, playful grin. At least, she seems to direct it at you quite often. “Guess that makes you my knight in shining armor, then.” she says, gently caressing your face with a gloved hand. You notice her arm shaking as she does so, the action of raising the limb made more stressful from having the chill of the restraining metal links creeping through her bones.

“Don’t talk. Just rest.” you advise, as you handed her over to The Cowl. At first, she was clearly creeped out by his unusual attire. However, once he placed her head against his feathered cloak, you notice that Ester quickly began nuzzling her head up to his chest. Most likely a subconscious reaction.

“Here’s your nuclear energy core thingy.” Charmy chimed in, offering up the glowing, orange ball of light, while keeping it safely contained in a mana bubble. Just then, without warning, one of the larger Kraaho men reaches out to grab the core, stretching his arm to a supernatural length, before rudely snatching it from Charmy’s psychic grasp. “Oh wow, you really just grabbed that with your bare hands, huh?” Charmy said, still cringing out of shock due to the Kraaho’s actions. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice one of the female Kraaho grabbing Billy Billions and coiling her arm around his body like a snake.

“I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. Once again, you have exceeded my expectations.” The Cowl says with a curt bow.

“Hey…!” Ester weakly exclaimed. “T-t-that’s my line. My people owe you a debt, you know.” she added without leaving the warm embrace of The Cowl’s feathered cloak.

“Multiple debts, actually. But who’s counting?” you shrug.

“Just...put it on our tab.” Ester retorts. And without any sort of signal or verbal confirmation whatsoever, the Kraaho turn around to retreat further into the tunnel, as if they had simultaneously decided that the conversation was over, or that it had gone on long enough. You can’t blame them. After all, their glorious leader’s health was at risk.

And while The Cowl’s body turned away from you, his head did not. “Proceed with caution, X. I suspect that this ‘Sublimino’ is more than meets the eye. It would do you no favors to underestimate him.” he advised, right before turning around completely and carrying Ester into the depths of the tunnel.

“Can we go already? I’m dying here!” Gwen whines, wiping a matted lock of orange hair from her forehead, now slick with sweat.

“Sure. Let’s head back to my place and-” you say, before being interrupted by Trixy, who now seems to be massaging your suit’s armor plates for some reason.

“Hmm. Interesting…” she mumbled to herself, completely absorbed in her hands-on study of your suit.

“Sooooo…” Red began. “That’s the AI that you’re always talking to, right?” he asked.

“That’s right. I thought that Billy’s android would make a good body for her.” you explain, trying your damnedest to ignore the fact that said AI was groping you without any regard for your personal space. You’re beginning to wonder whether or not she actually understands the concept.

“How come your Omnitrix is smarter than ours?” Gwen asked with an indignant look.

You shrug. “I just talked to her until she started talking back.”

The three of them look to one another, baffled by your vague explanation, before looking to their own Omnitrices and tapping them curiously. You begin to wonder whether they’ll ever figure it out for themselves. Maybe Trixy is more rare than you thought.

-------------

Shortly after departing from the Kraaho’s volcanic safe haven, you and your friends return home, using routes that would help you to avoid being spotted by any vigilantes out on patrol. It’s a good thing that you and Trixy put in the effort to map out their patrol routes several months in advance.

Upon parking your car in your garage, you can’t help but notice your neighbor, Bob, observing you from behind his blinds. All that noise from your battle with your personalized security system must have startled him. All this, and the police haven’t even bothered to show up at your place. If you’re not careful, you might be on the receiving end of a noise complaint pretty soon.

Sporting stilted smiles, you and your allies give your neighbor a stiff wave as you creep towards the door in your garage. As soon as you’re out of his line of sight, you collectively breathe a sigh of relief. And to your surprise, Slate meets you at the door with ecstatic behavior. If he had a tail, he would undoubtedly be wagging it.

“Hey buddy, you doing alright?” you say, kneeling down to pat his head. Anticipating this, he lifts it to meet your touch. As an apology for leaving him inactive or so long, you close your eyes and infuse your mana into the various sigils carved along the surface of his body.

“I already gave him back some of the mana that I took from him earlier.” Wendy says, leaning over the kitchen counter with a haggard expression. She looks exhausted. “Wasn’t much, but it was enough to get him up and running. The genie’s still asleep, though.”

“Aww! Your golem is so cute!” Gwen excitedly squeals as she bends down to scratch Slate. Charmy does so as well.

“Yeah, I guess he is pretty cute, huh.” she hesitantly admits, seemingly embarrassed to appear childish or ‘girly’ in front of her friends.

“Do you have any water?” Red asks, while raising his hand.

“Yeah, it’s in the fridge. Make yourself at home.” you offer, to which he graciously accepts.

Seeing as how your friends are occupied, you pull Wendy aside in order to address the matter of your family’s mental state. “So, how are they?” you inquire. “Actually, ‘where’ are they?” you clarify.

“In your room, sleeping.” Wendy says, pointing to your bedroom door with her thumb. “Whatever this ‘Sublimino’ guy did to them. To us...” she shudders. “It really did a number on them. Had to prepare a whole slideshow presentation and everything. Those kids can’t pay attention for shit. No offense.” she added.

“None taken.” you laugh. You’ve known for quite some time that the collective attention span of K8-E’s kids is smaller than Grey Matter.

“I applied what I learned when I was on Hestivaal Prime. Mental conditioning and all that kipp. No idea how effective it was, but they got real tired afterwards.” Wendy reports. You're also pretty sure that she threw some space slang your way.

“You want me to wake them u-” she begins to say, before Trixy approaches her from behind and pinches her cheeks. “Ow! Ow, fuck!” she cries while unintentionally slurring her words together. As a reflex, Wendy slaps her hands away, whipped around and throws her mechanical fist towards Trixy’s face. It all happened so fast! You almost cried out loud in an effort to prevent the collision. But somehow, Trixy’s enhanced reflexes allowed her to easily catch Wendy’s fist with one hand. Trixy’s eyes darted back and forth from Wendy’s arm to her face, her expression blank the entire time. Even as Wendy struggled in her grasp, Trixy showed no signs of using her full strength.

“Wade…” Wendy grunted, her breathing slow and labored. “Who the hell is this perky little, co-ed cheerleader slut?” she demanded as she shot you a glare. “And why shouldn’t I clobber her?”

“Because…” you begin to explain. “That’s Trixy.”

Wendy suspiciously narrows her eyes at you, and then looks back at Trixy. “The AI? No shit…?” she asks in a hushed tone. “When’d she get a body?”

(Cont.)
>>
“Like, an hour ago?” you answer, not entirely sure of the exact time of when she acquired a physical form.

In the middle of your conversation, Trixy relieves the overwhelming pressure in her vice-like grip, now interlocking her fingers with Wendy’s. “What...what is this?” Wendy says, visibly disturbed by this development.

Unable to sense her discomfort, Trixy gets uncomfortably close to your sister’s face. “I apologize, Wendy. Was that uncomfortable for you?” she asks out of concern, her nose nearly pressed directly against Wendy’s.

“Oh, it still is, sister. Ever heard of boundaries?” she responds while scrunching up her face, clearly bothered by her inability to create distance between the two of them.

What will you do now?

As much as you love seeing your resident AI freely expressing her right to move around and touch everything in sight, you can’t believe that she feels comfortable wearing that cheerleader outfit that Billy stuck her in.

“Let’s find you something less...form-fitting to wear.” you say to Trixy as you lift up a laundry basket, piled high with clothes, and place it on the couch. “What do we have here?” you say to yourself, lifting up one of the tops that K8-E wore on one of your recent dates. The fabric was thin, breathable, and felt like it might be a bit abrasive against bare skin, but otherwise, it was very appealing to look at. Although, it would almost certainly expose her shoulders and back.

After presenting the top to Trixy, she unraveled herself from Wendy, shifted her focus to you and rushed over to examine the article of clothing with a blank expression. Seeing as how she seemed confused by the gesture, you dangled the fabric in front of her face and brought it closer. Seemingly understanding of your intention, she took the shirt from your hands, running her fingers along the slightly coarse fabric, her eyes burning with curiosity. “This floral pattern...it is quite delightful.” she observed with a hint of excitement in her voice this time.

“Glad you like it. Now we just need to find you some pants.” you respond. However, without warning, Trixy plunges her hand deep into the pile of laundry, evidently spotting something that caught her interest. And to your surprise, she pulls out a pair of short shorts that Olivia left at your place the last time she spent the night. “You...want to wear those?” you hesitantly ask.

“There is less fabric to damage, and there is a much smaller chance of these pants hindering my movement in the heat of battle.” Trixy explains in a flat tone.

Yeah, but you’d still be showing a lot of skin.

At that very moment, Trixy’s eyes flickered in your direction. Shortly afterward, she shot you a knowing grin, almost as if she had still been able to detect your thoughts.

She then threw the clothes over her shoulder and reached her hand back into the bin. And from its depths, she pulled out a short, little purple and orange bomber jacket that would only reach down to her lower back. “Would this put your mind at ease?” she asked teasingly.

“Looks good.” you nod in agreement.

“Please hold the comments until after I’ve tried them on.” she says with a slightly playful expression. She then proceeded to UNDRESS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVING ROOM!?

“Whoa!” Red cried out in shock. It didn’t take long for Gwen to run up behind him and cover his eyes with her hands.

“Man, Billy did not spare any expense when it came to her funbags.” Charmy laughed. “I sure do hope that spine of hers is reinforced too.”

(Cont.)
>>
Clearly confused by everyone’s comments, Trixy looked around the room, completely oblivious to the fact that exposing her sky-blue underwear was incredibly inappropriate. Thankfully, Wendy was wise enough to throw a blanket over her shoulders, covering up her shame and leading her out of the room. Who the hell puts underwear on a robot, anyway?

“Normal people change in private, metalhead.” Wendy scolded her.

“But...I’ve observed Wade and K8-E casually undressing in front of one another on multiple occasions.” Trixy replied with an innocently apologetic look in her eyes.

TRIXY!!

“Oh yeah?” Wendy said, barely hiding the fact that she had been snickering at you. “Tell me more.”

“Certainly.” Trixy agreed. “I would like to know how common it is for organics to undress each other. Wade and K8-E would participate in such activities fairly-” she droned on.

“TRIXY!” you finally said out loud. Loud enough to draw everyone’s attention. “What did I say about sharing info about me and K8-E’s private moments?”

Suddenly, her eyes grew wide with realization, and you felt something akin to embarrassment from your telepathic link with the AI. It’s not like she could be any more embarrassed than you are right now. “My apologies, Wade. I will avoid doing so in the future.” she said with a bow, before retreating into the guest room with Wendy.

---------

After a few minutes, Trixy re-emerged from the guest room with a completely different change of clothes. Her movements were still stiff, but you could tell that she was much happier with her new wardrobe. You’ll have to take her shopping one of these days, though. Can’t keep borrowing clothes from your girlfriend and cousin.

As everyone complimented Trixy on her new outfit, you notice a new message from The Cowl pop up in the corner of your eye. Says that he caught Argit trying to steal something in the sanctuary. He let him go, but not without giving him a good scare. You’ll have to make good on your promise from earlier at some point. But that can wait. Right now you’ve got to...stop...Sublimino…

You barely manage to stifle back a series of intense yawns, forcing you to realize that you’ve been pushing yourself your mind and body to the limit these last few days. A nap might be in order here. You deserve it.

“Alright guys, I’m gonna hit the hay.” you say with a long stretch and another yawn. “Wake me if something big happens.” you add while waving back at them and walking towards your bedroom.

“Wade, you have yet to provide feedback on the nature of my attire.” Trixy interrupts. You’re pretty sure that you did, though?

“Yeah, you look great, Trix…” you lazily admit.

“But you are not even looking.” Trixy pouts with her hands on her hips, speaking in a nagging tone, now.

You stop dead in your tracks, roll your eyes and flash her a warm grin as you turn back around. “You look amazing. I mean it.” you sincerely proclaim.

Apparently satisfied with your answer, Trixy gives you another twirl for the road. “Your feedback is very appreciated.” she says, sounding more robotc than before, but her elated expression tells a different story.

Having finally been dismissed, you retreat to your room to find K8-E, ML-E, E-N and N8 cuddled up to each other, but somehow still taking up the majority of the space on the bed. Lying down beside them was a chore in and of itself. Sort of like forcing a puzzle piece to fit.

You had to simply accept the fact that you weren’t getting a share of the covers, either. E-N always hogged them when you shared a bed with him. For now, you’d have to settle with the natural warmth of your significant as a reliable substitute. And in under a minute, you drifted to sleep.

------------

Sometime later, you jolted awake, shocked by the feeling of cold keratin brushing against your cheek. You almost let out an audible gasp, but upon seeing your lover, bathed in moonlight, staring deeply into your eyes, your heart was instantly soothed.

“I missed you.” she whispered. The kids didn’t stir in the slightest, but there didn't appear to be anything abnormal about their breathing rhythm.

What do you say?

>”I know. Me too.” Embrace her.
>”I’m not going anywhere.” Place your hand on hers.
>”How much do you remember?”
>”I’m sorry for getting you wrapped up in all this.”
>”...Wendy was right, you know. I’m X.”

“I know.” you say, as the corners of your lips curl into a smile. “Me too.” you whisper, pulling her closer to you and taking solace in her warm embrace.

After a few moments of welcome silence, you hesitantly ask, “How much do you remember?” not sure of whether you actually wish the answer or not.

K8-E inhaled sharply, without disrupting the rhythm through which she slowly rubbed your back. “I remember...the first time that we met.” she calmly replied. “I had been chasing my children through a thick field of corn stalks. I urged them to return before the property owners returned, but they wouldn’t listen.” she laughed for a brief moment. “And then, I remember a sense of unease creeping through my skin as my momentum was forcefully halted. And not just mine. My children’s too. All of us were just...standing there, terrified and confused.” she explains. You can hear and feel her breath hitching as she struggles to catch it once more. “Before we knew it, we had been thrust into the air, flailing and screaming like mad. And suddenly, darkness...”

She paused for a long while, clearly still disturbed by the events of that day. You waited patiently for her to continue.

“We woke to the sounds of people screaming and crying around us. Rage, fear and sorrow sort of blended together on the ship. I had to reassure my kids that we would not be dissected, tortured or executed.” she continued, her tone becoming more grim with each passing second. “But just when we had started to give up hope, things had only gotten much, much, worse for us.”

Your expression must have been one of confusion, because Trixy felt the need to hang her hand in the air, only to bring it back down as she made a “crashing” noise with her mouth. You couldn’t help but laugh at her unexpectedly lighthearted attitude. Hopefully, neither of you were loud enough to wake the kids.

“Some idiot went and crashed the ship. It was a miracle that any of us survived.” she said with a playful smirk. “So when we crawled from the wreckage, we had no idea of what to expect. Would the crew imprison us once more? Would they decide to kill us? Or would your Earth’s government impose their laws on us after discovering our presence?” she asked, her eyes drifting to the side as she began to ponder the implications of her imagined fate. “But then, we saw something that was simply unheard of.” she continued, returning her gaze to you. “A human, not much older than my eldest son, giving out orders and reassuring us that we were free to go. He asked for nothing in return, and he even came to check on me personally.” she said with a giddy smile, recalling the romance of your first encounter. “He was not a Plumber. Nor was he obligated to assist us in any way. He was just a man that tried his best to help people.”

Her hand was now caressing your face again in slow and gentle strokes. “I remember…” she proclaimed, tears running down her face as she forced the words out. “I remember the man that I fell in love with, and I do not wish to forget.”

The pained expression of your lover is nearly enough to break you completely. You never wished to see her cry, and neither did you wish to be the cause of it. However, you find some strange comfort in knowing that the mere thought of you is able to conjure up such intense emotions.

“I’m sorry for getting you wrapped up in all this.” you apologize, wiping a tear from her amber-colored eyes. “I never meant to-”

“Don’t be.” she sniffled, now wiping her own tears with an air of frustration about her. “I never wanted to be a burden to you. If anything happened to you while I was sitting at home with the kids, doing nothing...I don’t know what I would…” she paused once more, inhaling deeply and regaining her composure.

“I no longer wish to sit on the sidelines.” she declared with absolute confidence as she peered deep into your eyes. “I wish to fight by your side. Now and forever.”

She...wants to fight with you?

What will you say.

>”It’s too dangerous. I can’t risk you getting hurt, mind-controlled, or worse.”
>”I have the Omnitrix and a high-tech suit armor, K8-E. You don’t.”
>”Last time you fought in my place, D’Traxus nearly crushed you. I can’t let anything like that happen again.”
>”Now’s kind of a bad time. We’ve literally got a war spanning the entire multiverse right now.”
>”If that’s really what you want, I’ll have to train you. Just running fast isn’t going to be enough.”
>”Let’s get that suit of yours fixed first, then we can talk.”
>”If we’re doing this, then I don’t want you taking any unnecessary risks. Leave those to me.”

You really aren’t interested in getting her involved in something as dangerous as crime-fighting, but you don’t think you’re capable of disregarding her, as if she weren’t an equal or your precious partner.

With a deep sigh, you declare, “If that’s really what you want, then I’ll have to train you. Just running fast isn’t going to be enough.” This way, you can take comfort in knowing that she’s capable of taking care of herself.

Just then, K8-E grabs your face with both hands and pulls you into a passionate, but brief, kiss. “Thank you! I do not know what I would’ve done if you had refused.” she said with a pleasantly relieved expression.

“I’m not going to belittle you, K8. But before I let you run headfirst into danger, I need to make sure that you’re ready for it. We’ll run some drills and work on fixing your suit whenever this whole ‘Sublimino fiasco’ is over and done with.” you proclaim.

“Yeah, about that…” K8-E said with a nervous chuckle. “The suit has kind of...already been fixed?”

What!? How!?

“What? How?” you whisper, still trying to avoid waking the kids.

“Turns out, Azmuth wove intelligent nano-machines into the fibers, allowing it to repair itself if left alone for a long enough time.” she explains.

Wow. You’re surprised that Azmuth was willing to make something so advanced for someone that he had just met. K8-E must’ve made more of an impression than either of you thought.

“So, you’ve got the suit…” you say apprehensively.

“Now all I need is the training! I’m ready when you are.” K8-E proclaims with an excited grin.

Suddenly, before the conversation can progress any further, the bedroom door swings open. “Rise and shine, lovebirds! We’ve got a huge problem.” Wendy shouts.

All at once, the kids tumble out of bed, having inched their way to the edge from all the tossing and turning. Wendy’s rude awakening was just the catalyst.

Despite their confusion and discomfort, you’re certain that they’ll be alright. With that knowledge, you jump out of bed and head straight for the living room, with K8-E following close behind you.

--------------

In the living room, stood your allies, congregating around your kitchen table, and observing a holographic projection that was most likely set up by your twin sister. Among your allies, were your teammates, of course, and your household guardians, otherwise known as Olumar and Slate.

The holographic display recreated the 3-dimensional figures of a massive war-fleet. One that you have seen many times in the hangar of Plumber HQ.

“The Plumber War Fleet…” you mutter to yourself while approaching the improvised war table. “Is it mobile?” you ask Wendy.

She shook her head in response. “It’s more than mobile. Those ships are armed, and are currently laying siege to Allied Systems.” With the push of a button, the display changes to a collection of alien planets, burning as they become engulfed by the flames of war. You know these planets. You’ve even visited a few of them.

You hear an audible gasp behind you, recognizing it as K8-E’s, even before she places a clawed hand on your shoulder. “This is horrible…” she says with a hand over her mouth.

“Indeed…” Trixy agrees, examining the 3d figures being displayed in various, dull shades of blue with great scrutiny.

“And that’s not the worst part.” Red chimes in, just barely managing to peer over the table. “A good chunk of the fleet is currently surrounding Earth. I think they mean to box us in.”

“And the flagship?” you ask.

“It’s past the blockade. We think that’s where they’re keeping your buddy, Cooper.” Wendy says with her back to the hologram.

“And...we don’t know whether Sublimino is up there with him. No one’s seen him.” Gwen adds as she leans over the table.

“I think we have more pressing matters on our hands, for the moment.” Olumar intervenes, pointing towards the blockade. “The longer we wait, the more we risk an invasion from their space-faring forces. And that’s only if we’re lucky.” she grimaces.

“If they wanted to, they could light us up from orbit. Earth’s defense tech won’t last through something like that.” Wendy says with a shake of her head. “I think it might be time to call in some favors.”

“Who do we know that can fight off something like this?” Red asked.

So, who will you call?

>The Lenopans. Your relations with them have been really solid ever since you signed that peace treaty.
>The Raskadarians. Princess Coco wouldn’t say no to you if you called her in for a favor.
>The Incurseans. You might be able to bait Attea into helping you if you feed her a white lie about “Prince Bullfrag” being here.
>Dr. Animo. If you could get in contact with him, you might be able to convince him to redirect the Blood Storm over to the Plumber’s War Fleet.

For a moment, you silently ponder the options presented before you. You’ve made friends in extremely high places, but not many of them are suited to taking on the brunt of the Galactic Republic’s military forces. Although, you do know a certain Raskadarian princess that owes you a really big favor, and happens to have a really big crush on you.

“...I may know someone.” you announce to the rest of the group.

------------

While Wendy debriefs the others, you and Trixy step outside in order to get a transmission through Coco's communications relay. The reception was a little fuzzy at first, but thankfully, Tixy was there to boost your signal into deep space. Hopefully, Sublimino won’t be able to intercept this.

“This is the Raskadarian Princess of Yggdril IV.” Coco declared from atop her lofty throne, surrounded by the four warriors that you had trained before your fight with The Great One’s cult. They seem to be doing well. “State your business.” she demanded with a regal air about her.

Does she not remember you? Or maybe it’s because this is your first time calling her.

“Wade. Your camera is deactivated.” Trixy reminds you with a mental note.

Oh, right!

Carefully, you don your mask and give the transmitter permission to access your camera’s functions. You usually keep it off in order to avoid accidentally revealing your identity.

“Hey, Coco. It’s good to see you again.” you casually remark. And just then, Coco’s pearl-tinted eyes go wide as a sheepish grin spreads across her face.

“X! W-what a surprise!” she shouts in an unusually high-pitched voice. Next thing you know, she’s hurriedly rushing her aides, guards and technicians out of the throne room. With them gone, she smoothes her fur with her hands, straightens her dress and fluffs up the scruff around her neck, before repositioning in her chair, taking on a much more suggestive pose. “You sure do like to make a girl wait…” she says with a sultry expression.

“I, uh…” you stammer, suddenly feeling embarrassed by her brazen conduct. Trixy simply tilts her head to the side as she observes Coco body language.

“No matter. I had full confidence in you as both a suitable, and sensible, candidate to be my mate. It’s an honor, really.” she says with full confidence. “For you, I mean.” Coco quickly corrects herself.

“Coco.” you firmly assert yourself, pulling her out of her delusional ramblings. You don’t need her going on about marriage arrangements when your girlfriend and her kids are within earshot. This is the exact reason that you took this conversation outside. “I need a favor.”

Upon hearing this, Coco seems to slump in her chair ever so slightly, clearly deflated by your deflection. “Figures…” she sighs. And in the blink of an eye, she straightens her back, raises her chin and narrows her eyelids, reassuming her regal posture from before, almost as if it were a reflex ingrained in her bones. “What is it that you might need?”

“Someone’s hijacked the Galactic Republic's War Fleet. I need your help to clear out the blockade that they’ve formed around Earth.” you request.

“Hm.” Coco groaned as she narrowed her eyes even further. “Raskadarian Intelligence informed me that the Galactic Republic had turned their fleet on allied systems. I had hoped that they were nothing more than wild rumors or over-speculation.” Something in her voice told you that she counted herself fortunate that Yggdril IV was not included among the allied systems. Those that were once considered the top priority of the Galactic Council were now prime targets for Sublimino’s nonsensical rampage. “Are you aware that they outnumber us, 10 to 1?” she asks, her voice full of scrutiny. “Even with my best pilots and our most powerful ships, my forces wouldn’t last very long out there on our own.”

You hate to admit it, but she’s probably right. After the Great One was slain, the Raskadarians were finally able to grow their military might without fear of being dominated by the superior forces of its cult. Before, it was middling at best.

“However…” she carefully considers. “I might be able to recruit some volunteers amongst the alien refugees that we’ve been harboring.”

By refugees, you assume that she means the aliens who had been meaning to kill her for being complicit in the destruction of their homeworlds. “Do you really think they’d go for it?” you hesitantly inquire.

“Honestly? No, I do not.” she sighs, lowering her head and closing her eyes slightly. “I certainly wouldn’t if I were in their position...”

“If I may…” Trixy interjects, raising her hand in an effort to ask the princess’ permission before speaking. Coco nods and gestures towards her with an open hand, giving Trixy the floor, an opportunity to speak her piece. “Despite having their worlds destroyed, those assassins were still willing to give you a chance to redeem yourself. I believe that there may be a noble few among them who will fight for you, if given the chance.” Trixy proclaims.

Coco seems confused at first, seeing as how this is her first time seeing Trixy in physical form. But eventually, she resigns herself to another sigh and shakes her head. However, you notice that she seems slightly more hopeful than she did when this conversation first began. “They were always of better moral character than I.” she says with a hushed giggle. “If I appeal to their mercy with a rousing speech, I might be able to rally them, along with any available troops on hand.”

“We have to give it a shot. The fate of the galaxy depends on it.” you say in a completely serious tone, despite the cheesy line. This earns a snicker from Coco.

“A tad dramatic, don’t you think?” she asks.

“Not when the entire Core Worlds are burning as we speak.” you reply, shaking your head with a frown.

“...Right then.” Coco corrects herself as she clears her throat. “I shall send a signal when I’ve managed to mobilize my forces. Until then, do try to hold out as best as you can.”

With a firm nod from the both of you, Coco ends the call, leaving you and Trixy standing alone in your backyard.

You managed to get Coco to agree to help you, but there’s still the matter of waiting until she gets here. Presumably, the enemy doesn’t know what you’re up to, so you have some time regroup and-

“Wade.” Trixy alerts you. “You need to see this.”

With a wave of her hand, she sends over a live feed of a costumed blonde girl being held hostage by a group of armed guards, wearing Exo-suits. But now that you’re getting a chance to view her more closely, you think you recognize-

Oh God…

Is that...Olivia!?

“We’ve got your little pal, X.” Steel announces through a megaphone. Is he being mind-controlled too? “If you want her back alive, then you should turn yourself in.” he continues, stepping aside to display the defiant look on your cousin’s face as she struggles to break free. “And no funny business. We don’t want to hurt her.” Steel adds in a tone that sounded more grim than he probably wanted it to.

Olivia shakes her head from side to side in a wild fashion, mumbling and murmuring incoherently due to the gag over her mouth. Her hands are likely being restrained to prevent her from casting magic.

...Is this why she was calling you earlier? Did these guys ambush her somewhere in the city?

“This is being broadcast on every channel, right now.” Trixy reports.

She’s still shaking her head. She’s...telling you not to come. It’s obviously a trap, but-

“We need to rescue her.” Trixy states, confident in her decision to reject Olivia’s pleas.

You stare deeply into her eyes for a moment, before regaining your composure and strengthening your resolve. “Damn straight.” you nod, earning a smile from Trixy.

So, what’s the plan here?

>Smash and grab. You need to be quick, or else the other vigilantes are gonna want to join in.
>Survey the area from the broadcast and see if you can spot any snipers or concealed weapons.
>Allow Time-Out to arrest a cloned version of your suit, while you and the others bust Olivia out.
>No more running. You’re meeting this threat head-on. Sublimino is about to learn why you’re considered the last line of defense.

Renewed by your brief respite and reinvigorated by the white-hot rage pulsating throughout your body, you storm through the door leading into the living room, flooding the dark room with light and alarming everyone inside. Trixy trailed closely behind you, seeming almost as upset as you were. You were unaware that she was this fond of Olivia. They never really talked much at all.

“Wade? What’s up?” Charmy asks.

She was the only one to speak up. Everyone else was currently anxious over your heightened emotional state. Specifically Wendy. She’s never truly seen you get this angry. Even when she was trying to kill you and your friends, you never used any more force than absolutely necessary.

No...that’s not true. You were pretty pissed back then. She’d waltzed right into your house, put your family in danger and then attacked you out of nowhere. So...what’s different?

Was it because she intended to leave without harming your parents, despite having ample opportunity? Was it because she just tried to steal the data from your Omnitrix, despite having an opportunity to kill you, even before you had been able to transform? Could it have been that she returned the Sunstone to the native people of that jungle planet, despite fearing for her very life.

Yeah...all of that and more. Deep down, Wendy had always been a decent person. You knew that, even before she or anyone else did. But Sublimino...he has no excuse for what he’s done. You don’t care about how tragic his backstory is, or how disenfranchised he was growing up. Nothing excuses what he’s done. And it’s time you finally put a stop to it.

“It’s Olivia.” Trixy begins to say. How long were you standing here and simmering? Probably too long if Trixy felt the need to step in. “She’s being held captive in one of Time-Out’s checkpoints. I’m getting the coordinates now.” she explains.

At first, the only ones who seem mortified by this news are Wendy, K8-E and the kids. After all, they’re the only ones who know her.

“They’ve got Aunt Ollie!?” ML-E gasps. K8-E immediately moved to comfort her daughter, but was incapable of hiding the unease in her own expression.

“Not for long…” you grumble, tightening and clenching your fists until your palms turn red and your knuckles grow white.

“His cousin.” Wendy elaborates, looking to your multiverse-hopping companions, and then back to you. “His best friend too.” she says, her voice sounding softer now. Was it due to pity? Or perhaps understanding?

“We’ll do whatever you need us to do.” Gwen volunteers with a resolute stare. Red and Charmy mirror her determination, without even bothering to ask what you require from them.

“Good.” you nod. “Because I have a plan.” you proclaim.

-----------------

(Cont.)
>>
After informing the team of your success in contacting Princess Coco, you laid out the plan that you’d come up with.

Red will use Gravelanche to tunnel underneath the checkpoint, while Gwen uses Wildvine to destroy Olivia’s bindings, and Charmy snatches your cousin without being seen. She says that she’ll use someone called Chamalien. You aren’t sure which alien that is, but you trust in her skills enough to let her operate independently.

In the meantime, you’ll serve as the distraction.

“Make room, people!” Steel shouted through the megaphone, signaling the mob-like crowd to part, making room for your motorcycle to pass through unimpeded. On the tail end of the bike, Trixy hugged your back, with her arms wrapped tightly around your waist. She had been forced to endure the jeers and thrown projectiles from the brainwashed townsfolk, the same as you’d been doing. Although, no one was getting close enough to deal any real damage, and the trash that they flung were nothing but minor annoyances. You found yourself getting angry on Trixy’s behalf when a thrown wrapper had left a ketchup stain on her jacket, but she assured you that it was no trouble at all. And she’d been so excited about her new outfit, too…

“That’s close enough!” Steel stated. His men now had their rifles trained on you. Some held elevated positions in watchtowers and on rooftops, but most were on the ground, wielding heavy artillery that had no business being in the middle of the city. But above all, the biggest threat had to be the dangerous-looking line-up of Exo-suits that had been stationed at this checkpoint. Not even the amatuer vigilantes that followed you here were very present in your mind. Both you and Trixy were capable enough to take them out without breaking a sweat.

Hearing Steel’s command, you and Trixy unmount the vehicle, before sending it away to park itself in a less hectic area. However, you and Trixy continue to approach Steel and his men. The Lieutenant narrows his eyes at you and raises his megaphone once more. “Stop where you are and lay down your weapons! This doesn’t have to get violent.” he insists, once more.

Now, you and Trixy were breaking out into a full sprint towards him, entirely unphased by his earlier warning.

“Yes…” Trixy says.

“It kinda does.” you finish for her. Even from this distance, you can see Olivia being forced to kneel as the metal restraints dig into her flesh. Her eyes are wide, but not full of fear. Thank God she’s okay.

So, what will you do?

>Whip out your sword. You’re about to deal with these guys the old fashioned way.
>Transform into an alien. (Which one?)
>Use one of your Viral Forms.(Which one?)
>Create an animated fire construct to destroy their heavy artillery and firearms.
>Send out a series of armed drones to take out their ranged units.

As you continue sprinting down the road, your eyes dart upwards, flickering from side to side as you mentally mark and count every single marksman that’s been picked up by your scanner. Without compromising the structural integrity of your suit, you send out a series of armed beetle drones, commanding them to take out the marksmen that you’ve targeted.

Now, with that out of the way, you’re free to take out the ground units alongside Trixy. Maybe you’ll try out that new alien that you got. You think his nickname was “Battery Ram”? Although, that was just something that you came up with on the spot. You’re currently unaware of the depth of his abilities. Only one way to find out…

“It’s Showtime!” you declare, as you select Battery Ram’s icon and slam your hand down onto the Omnitrix’s core. And in a burst of brilliant light, your body undergoes a significant transformation!

The first thing you notice is how all your limbs have begun receding into your body. Even your torso has considerably shrunk in size. This alien must be pretty small.

You feel a pair of thick, leathery wings sprouting from where your arms used to be, along with a pair of curved horns on your head, and a...tail?

Some sort of...three-pronged claw-like appendage has sprouted out of your backside. You’re unsure of whether it’s meant to balance you in the air, but it certainly has some sort of prehensile qualities to it.

As soon as your wooly fur grows in, you can’t help but notice the circular indentation that’s been left in the middle of your forehead. That must be where the Omnitrix has been placed.

And when the light fades, you find that you’ve transformed into Battery Ram!

By this point, the soldiers have begun firing upon you. With your small body and flexible wings, you manage to easily evade the plasma bolts, dancing between them with a mix of grace and urgency.

Trixy, on the other hand, has taken a more aggressive approach, as she leaps forward and brings her heel down upon the collarbone of the closest man that she could reach. She really isn’t holding back. So you shouldn’t either.

What will you do?

At first, you planned on giving these soldiers a good jolt with your forked taser-tail. But just then, you spot an inactive APC, just parked by the side of the road near a set of barricades. Why didn’t they just use that thing against you?

“Well, if they don’t want it…” you say in an adolescent, squeaky voice. Without hesitation, you make a beeline for the heavily fortified vehicle, easily avoiding plasma bolts along the way by varying your altitude in quick, jerky movements. As soon as you’re close enough, you latch onto the hood of the truck with your tail. And in that very moment, you feel as if your reasoning is overridden by pure instinct.

Balancing only on your tail, you place the top of your wool covered head onto the smooth metal surface, rapidly shifting your body from side-to-side at inhuman speeds, causing the metallic fragments stored within your wool coat to react violently. With each pass, you feel an intense jolt of static electricity coursing through your body, and then through the vehicle. With this simple, primitive action, you managed to jumpstart the vehicle’s engine, as well as forming a powerful magnetic field around the APC.

Once you’ve generated enough energy, you lay dormant on the flat metal surface, almost like an ugly hood ornament. But now that the hard part is over and done with, all you need to do is relax and steer the vehicle.

Amidst the intense exchange between Trixy and Steel’s soldiers, everyone immediately stops in place and stares in amazement at the hovering military-grade vehicle quickly flying towards them. “Heads up!” you shout, prompting Trixy to jump out of the way. And she did so, without delay, her faith in you as unshakeable as the APC’s armor.

With a resounding thud, you slam the truck into a group of armed men, sending them flying in multiple directions. They might have a few broken bones, but you’re certain that their wounds wouldn’t be fatal. With that in mind, you continue mowing them down, twisting and turning at awkward angles in order to make it difficult for them to avoid the APC.

Once you’d dealt with the vanguard, the Exo-suit units began moving in. Two of the big guys, wearing suits that mimicked Tetramand physiology, gripped the APC with over-sized metal hands, crushing the thick, layered armor as if it were made of cardboard. Between the two of them, they do a decent job of holding you in place. And they really would’ve succeeded too, if their suits weren’t made of metal…

You let out an angry screech in reaction to their interference, expanding the EM field and lifting them off of the ground with ease. In response to this, the Kineceleran units dash towards you, in hopes of rescuing their useless comrades. But you expected as much.

Even with Elena’s advanced technology, these guys aren’t nearly as fast as your average Kineceleran. Which gives you enough time to swing to rotate the APC, thus swinging the Tetramand Exo’s around helplessly, and causing their feet to collide with the helmets of the Kineceleran Exo’s. The dark, tempered glass cracked easily against the reinforced boots of the Tetramand Exo’s, and their armor produced bright sparks as they slid across the pavement.

Sometime during this, the airborne Exo’s managed to flank you from above. However, Trixy easily dispatches them with a few well-placed laser beams that she fires from her eyes. She’d been wise to keep her distance from the powerful EM field that you’d been generating. You weren’t sure if she figured it out through some sort of visual scan, or whether she had just been reading your thoughts again. Either way, you were grateful to have her be unharmed.

Eventually, when you’d gotten bored of dealing with the Tetramand Exo’s, you increased the elevation of the APC, as well as the strength of the EM field, forcing the Tetramand Exo’s to remain with you for the ride.

Then, you spot a sufficient target for the hijacked vehicle. A few of Steel’s cronies were attempting to set up a mounted gun on their fancy little watchtower. Not if you can help it!

With a low hum, you effortlessly fling the APC towards the guard tower, sending the Tetramand Exo's along with it, screaming all the while.

As the vehicle impacted the support beams of the tower, a loud creaking noise could be heard all throughout the city block, followed by the sickening crunch of smashed metal. Moments later, the guard tower came crashing down, compromising the integrity of the entire checkpoint as a whole.

Having dealt with both the ground troops and the snipers from above, you cancel your transformation early, just in time to receive the drones that you'd sent out earlier. They retreat into the recesses of your suit by folding and bending themselves back into the shape of your Techadon armor plates. The transition is almost seemless.

With Trixy by your side, you approach Steel, now standing alone with his sidearm raised up at eye level. By the time you stop, you're practically staring down the barrel of his gun, confident in the fact that it would never penetrate your armor before you could disarm him.

What do you do? Your friends need a bit more time before they can rescue Olivia.

>Just stand there and stare at him in silence.
>Snatch his gun away with your magnetic repulsors.
>Slice the firearm in half with your sword.
>"How else did you expect this to play out? I'm genuinely curious."
>"Your Exo suits suck, Steel. I can't believe you guys are using my tax money to build this crap."
>"You'd better be getting mind-controlled, Steel. Because if not, I'll put you down just as fast as your boys back there."
>"Do yourselves a favor, and stand down. You're only getting in the way."

>Time: Late in the afternoon
>Date: Mid-summer
>Location: A couple miles away from the Time-Out checkpoint, on a quiet rooftop

“Again.” demanded The Omen, as she waited impatiently with both hands rested atop her cane.

Birdie groaned in response, her arms beginning to shake with each arrow fired. “C’mon, I’m tired…” she complained.

The Omen shook her head. “No excuses, child. I must be sure that you have the conviction to see this through.” she insisted.

Birdie’s shoulders slumped, and her innocent smile folded into a deep frown. Once more, she took up the position of a seasoned archer, aiming for their prey with the intent to kill. And while she dreaded the thought of firing yet another shot at the poster that she’d hung up on the wall, now riddled with holes to the point of it being nearly unrecognizable, Birdie couldn’t bring herself to release her grip on the arrow.

“Hey…” she said, now adopting the innocent, pleading smile a second time. “Maybe we should just let X handle this one? I mean, he can do just about anything, right?” Birdie argued with an air of optimism about her.

The Omen didn’t respond this time. Instead, she harshly jammed her cane into the ground, creating a deep indent, with a web of cracks spreading from the point of impact. She was growing impatient, and Birdie could sense that. But her frustration did not stem from Birdie’s insubordinate attitude. Birdie knew this as well.

There was nothing to be done. Once the Omen had foreseen a tragedy, there was no stopping it. Some unseen force had always prevented her from directly intervening, but there was no rule against seeking outside help. Many a time, The Omen played an important role in protecting her children from annihilation. It felt...reassuring to have her back. Although, there was an odd sense of helplessness when she had declared another prophecy. The Birds were powerless before her prophecies. They were forces of nature. Acts of God. And this one was no different.

With a sigh, Birdie raised her bow once more. She knew that X couldn’t do anything to prevent this tragedy. If anything, it would be more fitting to call it a “Catastrophe”. And it would threaten to destroy everything, and everyone, that she cared about. Birdie knew what she had to do. So, she released the arrow, letting it rip through the air, traveling in a straight line, before planting itself directly into the heart of a familiar looking girl on the poster. One who was in grave danger at this very moment.

Feeling relieved, Birdie released a deep sigh, as if the act of releasing the arrow had exhausted her physically. “Very good.” The Omen praised her. “You are now ready. Be sure to hold onto that conviction when the time comes.” she warned, placing a hand on Birdie's shoulder.

Birdie flinched at her touch, still shaking from the tension of her debriefing. She had never been sent on a mission like this one. So many things about what her guardian was saying felt wrong, but Birdie knew them to be true in her heart. This had to be done. But…

“X is gonna hate me…” she cried, continuing the thought from her internal monologue.

The Omen moved her hand from Birdie’s shoulder to her back, now rubbing it so as to soothe the poor girl. “I wouldn’t ask this of you if I had another option.” The Omen pleaded. “His rage will eventually subside. Take comfort in knowing that you will be purging a great evil from this world.”

Having had enough of the prophet’s “comforting words”, Birdie wiped her nose and corrected her posture. With a curt nod, she ran straight past The Omen, before fearlessly flipping off of the building’s rooftop.

The Omen watched her the entire time, her gaze lingering for a little while after she’d already left. And then, it hit her. A sense of dread and unease. As if the flow of time and space had been jumbled up, and tied into a knot. She felt herself turning to face the anomaly, without even meaning to. Standing alongside her on the rooftop, was none other than Eon himself.

His ebony cloak fluttered and flapped in the wind, much like the one that The Omen wore. Both of them seemed entirely unbothered by the sweltering summer heat. “This is the moment.” he simply stated, ignoring The Omen’s presence altogether. “The catalyst. The foreshadowing of my crowning achievement.” he continued, as if he were talking to himself. The Omen simply gave him an empty stare, refusing to acknowledge his boasts.

Instead, he turned to face her, catching the prophet off guard. Behind his cold and unfeeling visage, The Omen felt as if she had sensed...nostalgia. He was reminiscing of this very moment, while simultaneously experiencing it for himself, for the very first time. “I ‘will’ succeed, crow.” he declared, putting extra emphasis on “will”.

They stood and stared at one another in silence for a short while, almost as if they’d been sizing each other up. Finally, The Omen replied “...Yes.” with a guttural hiss, almost as if she'd been spitting up bile. It absolutely repulsed her to admit to this monster’s victory. “I do believe that you will…” she said in a hushed tone, before disappearing like a wisp of wind, leaving no trace of her presence.

Now alone on the rooftop, Eon glanced back at the poster hung up on the wall. It was riddled with holes, barely recognizable, but just enough for him to make out a face. It was Lucky Girl. Wade’s plucky sidekick, cousin and closest companion.

With an exasperated sigh, he plucked the arrow from the girl’s heart, letting it fall to the floor as he became absorbed in thought.

“Good hunting.” he wished to Birdie in a singsong tone.
