It's the dream again.
The same dream you've been having for years.
You can't even remember when it first started.

But it always feels absurdly real.

It starts with you walking down a long ornate hall at a steady pace to the wide double doors at the end. Your very footsteps seems to brim with purpose and pride when striding down the hallway. Boots clicking on the polished stone floor.

The regularity of the dream is such that you know exactly what comes next down to the second.

In two steps, you will passing by a vase of gorgeous bright red roses and pause a moment to take in their scent.

A second latter, you'll look down and see that you're carrying...

> A fine silvery cloak with a broach studded with green gems, you can't help but admire the craftsmanship.
> A sheathed sword, you can sense the power lurking within it.
> An unopened letter and knife, you can't help but wonder what's written in the letter.
> A tray with 4 crystal tumblers filled with fragrant yellowish liquor, you wish you could take a sip of it.

A tray with 4 crystal tumblers filled with fragrant yellowish liquor, you wish you could take a sip of it.

Because this dream was enough to drive anyone to drink.

There was once a time you would have done anything to solve the mystery of this dream... but that was a long time ago.

The predictability of it all reminds you of just how tedious and boring it is. Once you tried to assiduously see what other small details you could observe during it. Anything to figure out why or what you were dreaming about.

After going through it a hundred times, you tried to make it a game; like counting how many roses was in the vase you passed by or count how many steps it took to get to the door.

You forget at what point you stopped feeling wonder and amazement and started to feel unnerved and frightened. You're pretty sure it was when the dream continued night after night for 3 months straight that fear began to creep up on you.

A year of it, you felt that you were losing your mind. You ranted and raved in frustration. Complaining and whining about how you would rather dream about handsome boys or exciting adventures. Your parents were concerned about you, now you make it your policy to never discuss it with them or anyone.

In the end, it didn't matter. Sheer repetition wore away your curiousity and despair, like water wearing away rocks. Boredom is now all you can feel.

Nothing in the dream ever changed.

Soon enough you're before the doors, and your dreamself is fussily checking that everything is in order again.

Your dreamself releases a soft sigh of relief that everything is perfect. Then you feel the squaring of shoulders and straightening of the back. All this as you prepare to knock on the doors itself to announce yourself.

And then the dream ends...

HUH!?

No way... The dream is continuing on! Your excitement blazes to life like a fire. This was something utterly new. You can see your gloved hands curled into a half formed fist about to rap the doors!

knock knock

The sensation of the hard wood on your knuckles comes to you as a shock as does the sound of the knocking.

You might finally see what's behind the doors at long last! You can feel your dreamself about to call out to whoever is behind the door and then open it. But...

You fall out of bed and hit the floor with a soft thud. Your eyes fly open at the impact and the dream has ended.

"... No.... No, no, no, no, no, I was so close! The doors, GAH!"

You are Ruka Houseki, 8th grader attending Juuban Public Middle High. And you are awake way too early.

A quick glance at the clock reveals it is 6:00 am, no girl of your tender age should be awake at this ungodly hour.

"Stupid dream. Why did I have to wake up!? The door, I was going to open it right?!?!"

There's no point going back to bed, what do you?

Deep within you, you feel the old spark of curiousity flash back to life. The drive to solve the mystery of your Dream that has plagued you since you were a little girl.

You know that somewhere in the bookshelf by your study desk, you have a notebook full of old observations and drawings. You just need to dig it out and start writing in the new details.

That is until your stomach started protesting. The loud growl of your stomach only emphasizes that you are but a young girl hungering for the most important meal of the day.

You should make breakfast, and lunch for later today. And it'd be nice to let your dad have a small break, he's been getting up early and making breakfast for awhile now...

But first, before you get up and actually do what you've decided.

You resolve that right now, you need to throw a tantrum... A very quiet tantrum since you live in a shitty apartment with your dad, but damn it, you need it!

After some flailing of your arms and legs with some quietly spoken swearwords on the floor, you feel... mostly the same. Actually, you might feel a bit better? As you ponder if the mini tantrum had any noticeable effect on your mood...

"Ruka, are you awake?"

You hear your dad ask outside in the hall.

Crap, it seems your dad heard you despite trying to keep it quiet.

"Yeah dad! I just got up!"

"Well then I'll start making breakfast for us both." You hear your father shuffle off towards the kitchen.

Whoa, gotta hurry and find that notebook, then go help dad.

You tear through your bookshelf, not caring at the mess you're making as you work through finding your old notebook.

When you do find it, you open the thick book to earmark the last entry. It seems you don't have time to write anything down, you'll have to take the notebook with you to school to fill in the details.

Right now, you can hear Dad in the kitchen.

You shove the notebook quickly into your school bag and arrive in the kitchen just in time to see your father take out the ingredients for breakfast.

"I'll do it today dad, you take it easy and read the newspaper."

A smile is on your father's tired face.

"Thanks Ruka."

It's rare for him to just relax and let someone else take care of things for a change.

You whip up a quick healthy breakfast and prepare a simple lunch of sandwiches for the two of you.

As you're doing this, he reads out some of the news headlines from the Yomiuri paper.

"Mysterious Sailor V stops robbery..."
"Nikkei falls to 18000..."
"X Japan is still looking for a new bassist..."

It's all over too soon, you dad has to start walking to work at Kasumigaseki and start the day as a civil servant. He gives you a quick hug before he's out the door.

And you are off to school.

Hm, maybe you can do the thing today... take *that* shortcut from your apartment to the school. It'll shave off a lot of time and let you arrive at school early. And that in turn will give you time to write your notes down before class starts... but only if you succeed in sneaking past that nasty lady, get over the walls quietly unseen and walk on top of that concrete wall divider for a bit til you can get to the street.

Last time you went through, things went badly. You tripped and spilled a bucket of dirty water on your shoes as you were skittering past a window and trying to avoid being seen. Not only were you late that day and had to spend all day with wet dirty feet.

It would be daunting to a regular kid but not to you. You are a battle scarred regular of Heiwa no mori park, and you fear of no mere obstacles.

And besides, you really don't want anyone seeing you write away in your notebook. It'd be a hassle to explain to classmates what you're doing.

A wellworn beaten path to the entrance of the shortcut gives ample evidence of the sheer amount of kids who had attempted it. Someone had helpfully propped up a large cement cinderblock to help the daring get their first foothold to go up and over the wall.

Some got through unscathed, others failed and were late for school. Which of those will you be today?

After a deep breath, you begin by setting a determined foot on the block and pull yourself up and over the wall.

It begins...

You clear the wall, pulling yourself up and over without any problems. That was the only easy part of the shortcut.

Before you is the daunting obstacle filled shortcut that almost every kid in the apartment building has attempted at least once. Such was it's difficulty that most kids gave up every trying again after their first attempt.

You were the rare and stubborn kid who just simply wouldn't give up. After all, it was super fun!

The narrow path was strewn with obstacles. There were walls to climb over, awkward metal pipes and pieces jutting out and over the route from the neighbouring apartment building, strategically placed flowerpots puts there to deter kids from going through and open windows where silent but swift creeping was the only way not to get caught.

You carefully survey the challenging landscape before you and note the most difficult areas to strategize your route. Those new flowerpots made things even harder than last time you went through. Worse yet, they were planted with thorny roses of all things.

But you've been through here before and most of the time, you get through without any issue at all.

Well... maybe not without any issue. You got through after enduring scrapes and bruises and angry shouting a few times.

First obstacle, the open window that you needed to rush by without anyone realizing you were out in the alleyway.

You don't hear anyone near the window, so you swiftly pass it while running while balanced on the top of the partition wall.

Next was a jutting pipe that blocked your path, easey-peasey lemon squeezy. You jump down from the wall back to the ground and push onwards. There's a crumbling section of the wall where you scramble back on top and get back to running on it.

Next it was those flowerpots and the open window of the nasty woman who probably put them there to stop you.

As if such a paltry and weaksauce obstacle would do such a thing. Your initial plan was to jump down from the wall again and carefully scoot past the window while remaining unseen, move the flowerpots a bit and then pull yourself over back onto the wall again.

Tedious but necessary, it was the easiest and safest method.

But as you were running full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes, you hear the sound of movement.

Oh no, the old nasty lady is near her window.

You slow down as you as pray that she'll be going away, but you should know better than to appeal to the unforgiving and unmerciful fate to stay her hand.

In fact, you can see a wrinkled hand reaching out of the window with a watering can. Stretching towards the roses in the flowerpots.

She is going to see you at this rate.

Failing here and so early!? That's not possible! You won't allow it!

You quickly scan around and your eyes rest upon a narrow balcony. The glass doors of it were shut and thick curtains hid away whatever was within the apartment. It was the only place where you could hide yourself from being seen from the old lady. She wouldn't think of looking up!

A sudden surge of desperate power rushes through you as you grab the ledge of the apartment balcony above your head and try to pull yourself up with all your strength!

Once you decided you won't be able to use your roll again until the next scene. You can only choose one stat to improve. In this case, it will be the physical stat.

Hm, how to explain.
You regain them after the particular event you're in is over. Which I call a 'scene' because we're right now going through it.
For example, this event, you have the option of using your bonus dice for +1d6. Once it's used up, it's used up until the next new event which for example could be gym class later on in the day.

So 'short cut' bonus dice until used. Once used, you can't use it again while you're undergoing the 'short cut' scene.
Afterwards, the bonus dice is restored to you.
So that in another scene/event at 'school'. You have the bonus dice to use again for physical stats.

You strain to quickly get yourself up onto the empty balcony.

The burn of your arm muscles reminds you that you've gained weight and lost some physical fitness over the weeks. This was a greater struggle than you expected.

But you aren't giving up! You flail about like a dying fish, kicking your legs into the air to get some momentum in your attempted swing upwards onto the narrow balcony. The urgency of the moment presses on you heavily, you need to get on there before you're seen.

Success! But at a cost, just as you are getting over the railings of the balcony from below you hear shrill indignant cries and then feel the cold splash of water on your dangling feet.

That dumb lady threw water on you!

"You troublemaking brat! Graduated to being a burglar have you?"

"GAH! I'm just trying to get through."

Your shoes are soaked again, but at least it was clean water this time. You don't bother to stick around and jump from balcony to balcony until you reach the end of the shortcut. All the while you hear the angry shouts of the old lady and the sound of windows and balcony doors opening to see what was going on.

"Oooh, won't anything go right for me today?"

You mutter this as you jump off the wall and on to the street with a loud watery splat.

You ran to school with your feet squishing in wet shoes once more but arrive early enough that you can sneak into an empty clubroom and start scribbling away in your notebook before class starts.

There's not much to write to be honest. Just a few extra seconds of the Dream was new. After scribbling in the latest entry in your notebook on the new deatils and you then make a very rough sketch of a gloved hand about to knock on the doors.

Why now of all times did the Dream choose to continue for a few seconds longer? Had something changed recently? Was something going to happen?

Pondering on it doesn't enlighten you much and soon enough, the school bell rings...

Wait... oh crap, you gotta get to class.

You grab your school bag and scramble out of the door of your clubroom. You do not want to have Ms. Sakurada on your case this morning, you've had terrible time this morning and don't want add to it.

You barely make it in time to sit down at your desk when the teacher comes in.

There's a soft laugh from behind as you take your seat hastily.

"Good morning Ruka-chan. Had a rough time?"

"Don't even start, Tomio..."

"It's kind of super noticeable."

Your childhood friend Tomio Harada teases you once again.

You turn around to answer him but you see that his gaze is upon your wet sodden socks.

Before you can make say something, Sakurada shot you a look that demanded silence and she begins roll call.

The classroom door is suddenly thrown open with a loud bang.

"I MADE IT IN TIME!"

A loud girlish shout of relief issued forth from a small girl with a very distinctive dango hairstyle.

It was the class klutz, Tsukino Usagi. And soon her relief turned into despair as Ms. Sakurada forced Tsukino to stand in the hallways as punishment for being late.

Wails of dismay that issued forth were truly ear piercing as she went back out the classroom doors.

You can't help but think that Tsukino...

You can't help but think that Tsukino as an unfortunate classmate. A particularly memorable and distinctive one given her unusual hairstyle.

And while you admit that you're a pretty unlucky girl, Tsukino Usagi seemed especially fated to get the worst of any situation she found herself in.

And there was also somethin. An undefinable quality that you could never really put a finger on that always got your attention whenever you looked at Tsukino. You weren't sure what it was.

You shake your head as you unpack your school bag to get at your books and papers. That's when you realize, you had forgotten your notebook in the clubroom. A stab of panic goes through you before you quickly calm down.

The door is locked, no one you saw in it or leave it. The notebook is safe, you can go and get later at lunch time.

Groaning with misery, you get ready for class.

"Please give me a break, I really need it."

No dice. Ms. Sakurada is passing out the results of yesterday's test to everyone. You can tell who did well versus who did terribly just by listening to how your classmates react.

Gurio Umino clearly got a high score as he annoys the rest of the class with his 'it should have been harder!'

While outside the hallway you hear Ms. Sakurada berating Tsukino for achieve a mere 30%.

As for yourself... You got a 80%. Average score.

"Oh man, our teacher is a demon I tell you. And to think she's going to give us another test again today! Just what is she trying to do?" Tomio complains as he shows off his 74% score to you.

"She's clearly out to make us miserable test taking drones. I can't believe she's doing this to us, this has to be some sort of crime..." You grouse.

Ms. Sakurada overheard you.

"Stop your whinning Houseki! If you think this is tough, wait until you have to write you high school and University exams!" With a forceful flourish, Ms. Sakurada passes out the next test that everyone has to do.

All you can do is just buckle down and start writing away at the test.

The outside world falls away, you have become a simple test taking drone desperately trying to satisfy the tyrannical test queen's desire to see you suffer. You're pretty sure you're able to pass this test without failing but results are probably not as pretty as it could be.

And this was just the first hour of school. Ugh, you can't wait until lunchtime to get out of here.

The hours slowly crawl to the appointed hour where everyone can just dash out of class for lunch. The lunch bell rings and Sakurada finally dismisses the class.

"I'm going to grab something from the canteen, want anything?" Tomio asks as she gets up from his seat.

This is now a sneaking mission!

Your objective? Investigate who is in the clubroom. There shouldn't be anyone in the room right now. Was it some intruder? Could it be a teacher?

There was only one way to find it!

Carefully and slowly you inch towards the door of the clubroom. You had remained silent as a mouse the entire time, there's no way that anyone had heard you from within that room. Pressing close to the wall, you use the polished inside of your trusty metal pencil case as a reflective tactical mirror and look around the corner of the room.

Reflected on the shiny metal, you see that it's Aya Kagawa-sempai. Of course it's her, she's the president of the supernatural research club and has keys to the room. You got in because you know exactly what bump key to use and the right amount of force on it to open the door.

She's standing in all her short 4'10" glory, holding up the notebook and looking at the cover.

Then your heart stops at the sight of her opening up the notebook. Was she going to read the notebook and discover everything you've written your Dream? It was almost too terrible to contemplate. The feeling of betrayal and the violation of your privacy stings in the deepest depths of your soul.

You almost burst into the room to stop her.

But it seems she opened the notebook up only to see if there was name written in the title page. Being satisfied with her discovery of your name in it, she closes it immediately without wasting a second.

You let go of the breath you had been holding.

Of course Aya wouldn't read something you owned without your permission. She wasn't that sort of person.

You better reveal yourself, no point in acting like a suspicious sneaky sneak for absolutely no reason at all.

You stand in the door way and knock on the wall to grab her attention.

The other girl starts and looks up quickly to see you at the door.

"Ah Ruka-chan, you surprised me. Stealthy as always."

"Hey now, that makes me sound like I'm sort of sneaky creep."

Aya hands your notebook back to you without further comment. You feel palpable relief the moment it comes into your hand. There was no way the other girl could not notice it.

"I'm curious, what is written in there?"

"Sorry Ms. President, it's a secret.... But don't worry, there's nothing illegal written in it and I'm not planning to do anything terrible."

Aya simply blinks.

"I have a hard time believing you. After all, this is coming from the girl who can crack all the locks in the school."

"I can't crack them all, I only know how to crack this one!" You can only laugh at the look on hre face.

After you pack away your notebook, you both walk down the stairs and out into the courtyard where Tomio has claimed a bench for everyone to sit on.

Aya lights up at the sight of Tomio.

You could almost imagine hearing 'target acquired' being quoted as your sempai made a swift beeline to the bench and sat herself right next to your childhood friend. Man, she was faster than you ever imagined. One second she's by your side, the next second she's already right beside Tomio.

The speed seems to have surprised Tomio too.

"Good afternoon Kagawa-sempai, it's nice to see you." Tomio recovered enough to greet Aya.

"It's good to see you too Harada, how are you this fine day." Aya smiled happily as she turned her full attention on him.

A nervous smile is on Tomio's face as he glances at you as though you can save him from his predicament.

You can't help but chuckle. If only your thick-headed friend would pick up the hint that Aya Kagawa would like to date him. Never mind the age difference, it's only one measly year. She's practically throwing herself at him.

You sit down on the bench and open up your lunch. You made one thick honey ham sandwich with cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes. It was stuffed full of ingredients that you had a hard time hinging your mouth open to take a bite. You made your dad two of these large sandwiches for his own lunch. You savor the deliciousness of your handiwork with relish, leaving Aya and Tomio to navigate through their conversation. It was the usual school work and subjects that are so well trodden but your ears perk up when the start going on about Sailor V.

"The supernatural club is thinking of doing an article in the school newspaper about the mysterious Sailor V. Tell me, have you heard any interesting facts about her?"

"Well... not really sempai, I mean, it's hard to believe some girl our age is running around fighting bad guys in a school uniform. I'm pretty sure she's just an urban legend."

"Hey, I think my dad mentioned something about Sailor V when I was making breakfast this morning. Something about stopping a robbery."

"Amazing, she's made the news. Are you pondering what I'm pondering? That this would be a worthy subject for our club, Ruka, my minion?"

Aya is making her villainess face, the sort that you know is actually harmless but makes her seem like she's plotting something dastardly. It took you awhile to get used to it. Most of the time, she looked like some delicate beauty but sometimes...

Tomio bursts out in laughter at the minion title.

"Oh wow Ruka, when did you become a mere minion?"

"Just now it seems." You drily observe.

Some new items.

Nearby you hear similiar talk about Sailor V... In fact, it seems Gurio is regaling Usagi Tsukino and Naru Osaka about what he's heard about the mysterious crime fighter. Seems she stopped a jewelry robbery.

But that's not the most important part, you overhear that there's some sort of massive jewelry sale at the Osaka Jewelry Store.

You can't help but feel a bit envious. You aren't exactly running around with a lot cash that would let you buy much more than the occasional drink from the vending machine.

You also aren't the only one who overhears the Osaka Jewelry sale. Aya definitely overheard it too and she develops a look of excitement.

"Ruka, we have to go and see! Jewelry! Oooh, you think there's anything we can afford? Let's go right after our club meeting. You should come too Harada. It'll be fun!" Her eyes are aglow with excitement.

You can't help but feel the infectious excitement, just seeing the shiny gold and gems would be enough to make you feel elegant.

"Sure, sounds like fun!"

Tomio looks absolutely bored at the idea.

"No thanks, what sort of guy wants to go to a jewelry store with girls?"

There are moments you want to smack your friend. This was one of those moments. Aya looks so disappointed at his blunt refusal.

It looks like getting Tomio to come along is going to require some armtwisting and negotiation.

"Oh come on, it's not like we're going to be in there for hours. And besides, don't you remember? There's a very very important place near by it too that we need to go."

You lay out the bait, and wait to see if it perks his interest.

"You lost me Ruka, what is this "very very important place"." Tomio lifts his hands to do sarcastic quote marks, curling the two fingers a few times to really emphasize it but he couldn't hide his curiosity.

Oh yes, he takes it!

"A place where we go best out of 3 rounds at 100 yen a round, I've got money." You start reeling him in, he knows where I mean and he doesn't even have to pay.

"... Oh yeah, Game Center Crown. They got a bunch of new games in a few weeks ago."

"That's right, and they got Street Fighter II: Champion Edition! You shall fall to the might of the Soviet Union, capitalist pigdog! We can go after visiting the Osaka Jewelry Store."

"What is with you and always using Zangief... Hey wait a second..."

Oh come on, Tomio is almost always a dense dunce. Why this flash of insight now?

"Are you... are you trying to bribe me to come to a jewelry shop?"

Hmph the nerve of this guy.

ARGH! This wasn't supposed to happen. This was supposed to be cheap, easy and fun. Not wallet obliterating, difficult and thankless. Oh god, that complicated look on Aya-sempai's face. How are you to interpret that sort of face?

You are about reject the deal, since giving in to extortion quite frankly does the exact opposite of what you were hoping to accomplish and gives Tomio an incentive to push his luck to try again some time in the future.

But as you open your mouth to say 'no'... An evil thought blossoms in your mind.

He said 'make me lunch'.... Oh he can have a lunch from me, he never specified that it had to be edible. He'll definitely regret it. Maybe you can add some extra hot sauce to make him suffer or buy some terrible expired melon pan to shove down his throat. Oh the myriad of things you can do to have sweet vengeance!

"Agreed." Your voice sounds like you're sealing the deal to buy someone's soul. All it's missing is maniacal evil laughter.

"Really!? Awesome, free games and free food!" Tomio whoops, somehow completely missing the evil tone of your answer and Aya's complicated facial expression.

It hasn't escaped Aya's attention that the tone of your 'agreed' promises terrible things in the future to be inflicted.

So the bargain had been sealed and doom stalks the near future of the oblivious Tomio Harada.

"We'll go after our club practices then, okay?" Aya claps her hand to get your attention and arranges the time.

"Got it, I'll be waiting at the gates after band practice!" Tomio says as he dashes off to class.

You walk with Aya in a more sedate manner back to the school.

"... So... Um... What are you planning to do for his lunch?" The older girl asks in a timid voice.

You assume she's timidly asking because she fears to hear the terrible pain you are going to inflict on Tomio.

"I'm going to feed him a culinary abomination, the likes of which the world would deem a crime against humanity. That'll learn him, he'll never dare to try and extort me again." You bluntly declare. You're thinking of visiting the local Brazilian market to buy some of that malagueta pepper. You don't know how spicy it is but it will do.

"What? No, don't do that. Let me do it! I want to make Harada something tasty to eat, he doesn't have to know you didn't make it!" The desperate begging tones of Aya's voice is keen.

"BWUH? But, but, but, but my vengeance?" You can't help but sputter.

"Please?"

Oh no, she looks like she's going to cry if you don't let her.

"All right, all right! I'll plot some other sort of revenge on him. Go ahead, make him lunch."

The smile that Aya gives you is absolutely beautific. Were you always this much of a pushover to the president of your club?

"Thank you, you really are my loyal minion and friend. Hee hee, I can't wait to make something tasty for him. Just you wait Ruka, I'm going to knock his socks off."

You return to your classroom on the second floor. While Aya back to hers on the third floor, practically floating with happiness.

The rest of the day in class is uneventful. There's luckily not much homework to do latter on.

Soon enough, you depart for club. Tomio is off to practice with band with his trumpet, while you go to the Supernatural Research clubroom.

It's a small room, barely enough to seat 5 students. In fact, your club is infamous for two things.

One, it was basically a club that existed on paper. Sure the member roll claims there are 11 students who partake in it but in reality, almost all of them just head straight home. It was a 'go home' club, with only 4 students who spent any time doing anything in it. It amazes you still that the teachers at the school allow it to keep on running.

The only reason why it hasn't been abolished yet is probably due to the second thing the club is infamous for.

The Supernatural Research club had always been able to put together really really scary haunted house events. Every cultural fest, if a class voted to put on a haunted house, they inevitably turn to the members of the Supernatural Research club as consultants. Last year was pretty notorious, President Aya Kagawa went all out when designing it and nearly gave someone a heartattack.

Literally.

An ambulance had to be called to check on the father of one of the students.

The stringy hair ghost girl crawling out from the table while doing a death rattle jump scare was banned forthwith by the school but man did it make an impact. The club even got an exaggerated mention in the newspaper you think for being so scary that it nearly killed someone with fright.

And so you arrive at the clubroom. You aren't surprised to see that today it was going to be only you and Aya. Everyone else must have headed straight home.

"Hello Ruka, let's get to work and start cutting out these articles about Sailor V. I'm going through a bunch of tabloids trying to find articles on her. Why don't you grab some yourself and start looking?"

You shrug and being to opening up the newspapers and look. It helps that you've always Observant, so you quickly notice a pattern in the newspaper and tabloid articles. They were the same article done by the same reporter Kakutani Maromi, sure there might be a slight difference in the text but it was superficial. You quickly see that none of the newpapers actually have anything new to say. You draw attentiont to this fact to Aya.

"I don't think any of the newspapers are dedicating any energy into writing about Sailor V, we'll probably have to get some really sketchy tabloids if we want read any new details on Sailor V... but who knows if those tabloids aren't just making stuff up."

"Oh, that's so disappointing."

Aya puts the newspapers into the garbage. It was too early, band practice for Tomio wasn't going to be over for another 20 minutes.

Seem like contacting the reporter wins
Will write the next post a few hours
>>
You give it a few moments thoughts, an option that was open to you was to actually go get details and contact to the newspaper reporter who wrote the article.

"Hey Aya, how serious are you about researching Sailor V?" You ask the other girl.

"Pretty serious, we need to write another article for the school newspaper. The magical charms article we submitted is for this quarterly edition. I mean, we could choose another subject but we don't have a lot of time to think up something else up and write about it."

"Then how about we try to get into contact with this Kakutani reporter person? She might got more info about the mysterious Sailor V she didn't write about."

"That's a great idea!"

Aya goes up to the wipe board and writes down the task for your club using a black marker.

'Contact Kakutani Maromi on Sailor V'

With a satisfied click, she puts the cap on the marker. You don't have any time today to try and do more, so you help pack things up in the clubroom.

By the school gates, Tomio is waiting with his trumpet case.

"Okay girls, time to head to the arcade!" He gives both of you a happy smile.

"But first Harada, we're going to Osaka Jewelry. Remember?" Aya reminds him of his promise.

"Oh yeah, well..." He doesn't look all that enthused.

"Is the deal off then?" You ask him.

"NO! Definitely not, I want my best of five and lunch!"

It doesn't take you long to arrive at Osaka Jewelry. It's located within the busy business district, teaming with shops, restaurants and other businesses. It's a pretty fancy place, the jewelry on display in the outside window glitter and sparkle in the sun. The original prices of the pieces are pretty nuts too, 450,000 yen for a pair of earrings.

But there was a discount sign saying that it was lowered by 60% on the original price.

Was it possible? Why was it so cheap? You can only imagine the number of people in the shop.

Despite suspecting it was crowded, nothing prepared you for the seething mass of women milling about within. Each and every single one of them trying on rings, necklaces, bracelets and who knows what else. They gathered around jewel display cases that were completely open to allow them to try on and wear the jewelry. One particularly fat lady had a triple layer of pearls wrapped about her neck, every finger almost dripping with rings, large bejeweled earrings and ostentatious bracelets.

It was intimidating, the three of you can't help but take a step back. But Aya is much braver than the both of you, she soon rallies her strength and sallies forth into the crowd. Tomio and you follow her reluctantly into the maelstrom.

"Whoa, what the heck? This is crazy." Tomio mutters. You can't help but agree. The unbelievable discounts on quality jewelry had created the most astonishing crush of women to enter the store.

"Hey guys, here to check out the sale?" Naru Osaka calls out, and her voice is noticeably strained and worried.

"Yes, we heard there was a sale at Osaka Jewelry but I never imagined it'd be anything like this." Aya answers as she bravely attempts to pass the crowd to get to a display case but the denseness of the crowd prevents her from getting through.

"You might want to come over here to the cheaper section, there's no chance you're going to be able to get to the really expensive stuff." Naru gestures you to a relatively calmer section of the store where smaller pieces of jewelry are displayed.

Simple bracelets and rings greet your sight. They were of a much more conservative design with smaller jewels and simple patterns.

"You can try on anything today, my mom says that all the display cases are supposed to be open..." Naru sounds extremely worried.

"Isn't that weird though? I mean, the stuff in some of those display cases are super expensive." You note. There was something off about the entire thing, Naru definitely knew it. You could see Mrs. Osaka shouting out new deals and pushing the women to try on even more jewelry.

Unfortunately Tomio didn't and Aya only had eyes for trying out the marked down jewelry on display.

"Aw, come on, it can't be anything serious. I mean, it is Osaka's mom who decided to put on this big sale after all." Tomio stood by the display case and tried to look politely interested in the glittery jewels.

"Oh, Harada, check this bracelet out. This might be great for a guy to wear." Aya said as she picked up a simple bracelet made with a small beads of some sort of jade.

"Uh..." Tomio isn't quite sure to react to the proffered bracelet.

Maybe you are worrying a bit too much. In any case, this was your time to make yourself scarce and get out of Aya's way.

"Hey Osaka, where's the washroom?"

Naru points out where the washroom and you swiftly make your exit.

"I'll be back you two, try not to break anything." You can't help but sing out as you walk away as fast possible.

"Huh, hey Ruka! Don't abandon me!" Tomio sounds like he is about to despair being left behind.

"Oh don't be like that Harada, she'll be back soon enough! Oh this ring looks pretty nice too, it's so simple in design that a guy can wear it!" Aya is focused on making Tomio to match the jewels she is also wearing.

You can't help but think how sorry and not sorry you are. This is the fate that Tomio choose when he agreed to the deal. He just has to endure it.
(Continues)
>>
>>4880650
As you round the corner, you stop and double back to peek out and see what Aya and Tomio are doing.

Tomio soon gives up trying to ward off Aya's insistence on trying the bracelet and ring. He looks fairly embarrassed. Naru is pointing out jewelry appropriate for guys to wear while Aya wheedles the embarrassed Tomio to trying them on. Aya already had a necklace and some rings on her fingers. She seems to be absolutely loving it.

Soon enough Naru walks away to leave the two alone, catching on from your swift exit that the two were to be left alone. Good old Naru, always able to pick up a hint so quickly.

Soon enough Aya and Tomio finally fall into some sort of conversation.

Hm, curious. You wonder what they're talking about. Maybe you can sneak back without being seen and listen in to the conversation. No wait, that's a violation of their privacy. You are a sneaky sneak that is true but you aren't a spy...

You can't help it, you're simply too curious as what your friends are talking about. You've evolved from being a simple sneaky sneak to a nosy sneaky sneak.

And it's not even a challenge, no one is paying attention to little old you. All the women are too busy gawking and trying on jewelry, while Naru is watching her mother with worried eyes. Never mind Tomio and Aya, they're just too focused on their conversation.

You depart from the corner and walk naturally towards the pillar closet to you. Then you crouch down and dash towards the display cases ahead. You're swift, silent and completely successful. You hide behind the display case your friends are in front of and listen in.

Crouched down low, completely unseen. You truly are a master stealthy something or other... you hate to say it, ninja definitely would be a good descriptor for you. Sneaking comes so naturally to you that it's almost supernatural to everyone else.

Your mom, well that is when she was still part of the family, was always baffled as to how quickly you could hide or sneak away. To get you to stop doing it to your parents, they punished by refusing to buy sweets for you. It sort of worked, you only did it to them when you thought you could get away with it.

What can you say? You're an incorrigible girl.

It seems you've only managed to catch a part of the conversation your friends are having. The most important part of it must have been at the very start, you're only hearing the tail end.

"... is that so?" Aya answers back to Tomio.

"Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong. It's just... Ruka's not really willing to talk about it, so I can't really tell you anything. At least, not right now."

"I see, I guess she must write it down in that notebook I saw then."

"Notebook? I didn't know she kept a journal or anything."

Wait a second... why are they talking about you of all people!? You'd think Aya would ask Tomio what he likes to eat or ask him to compliment her on looking pretty wearing those jewels. Come on Aya, I set this up all for you, don't waste it.

You can't help but fume a bit. But it doesn't last long, because your skin begins to crawl. Something is happening. The air crackles with a bone chilling menace you have never experienced before, and you hear gasps of alarm from the customers in the store.

"I feel... so weak." Some woman says.

"Why am I so tired?" Another asks.

"What's... what's happening to everyone all of a sudden? Mama?" Naru sounds so desperate.

???

Bodies are dropping to the floor, the soft slumping of flesh and weak cries for help greet your ears.

What is going on out there?

Amongst those cries, you clearly hear Aya's and Tomio's.

"K-kagawa, urgh."

"Ugh. Ruka, help..."

Oh shit, you move swiftly to a narrow gap between the display cases you're hiding behind, bring out your tactical mirror pencil case lid to look around the corner.

The sight that greets you fills you with horror. Your childhood friend Tomio and best friend Aya are slumped unconscious on the ground. There is a weird black miasma hovering over them.

This was some horror movie shit and it's actually happening!

You then hear an unsettling voice. It's Mrs. Osaka's voice but.... it is also completely unlike Mrs. Osaka's.

"I've gathered quite a bit of energy." It was gloating.

You say 'it' because whatever it was, it wasn't human. Your tactical mirror can't reflect to see where Naru and 'it' was.

The thought of looking for a phone to use to call for help dies when you realize that the phone is far from you and dialing it could attract the attention of 'it'.

You imagined yourself as a brave girl. All the stories you read as a child made bravery seem like such a simple thing that anyone could summon forth at a moment's notice with no effort at all. Now you know better, courage is a virtue and you have it not.

The pit of your stomach churns with shame at your inability to do anything. You want your father or even your mother to save you. But they're far away, and you're the only here. Powerless and terrified, a mere 14 year old girl that can do nothing.

This is what you are. All you can do is silently cry.

"HELP ME!"

You hear Naru scream as she tries to escape 'it'.

It was in that split second you realize that the brief scramble was your opportunity to move and do something. The attention of 'it' must be wholly focused on your unfortunate classmate Naru.

Welcome back to the continuation of Crescent Adventures, this quest is based in part on the 90s Sailor Moon but you're not playing a Scout. Instead you play as one of the many unfortunate students/victims attending Juuban Middle School.

You are Ruka Houseki, a 14 year old female student who since childhood has been plagued by a repetitive and mysterious dream. But things have changed slightly in that dream, it's so unexpected that you can't help but feel a rekindling of your ambition to solve the mystery behind it.

But before all that can happen, you need to get through your mandatory education and club activities. Today was supposed to be a fun relaxing day of jewelry gawking followed up with Street Fighter after a long day at school with your childhood friend, Tomio Harada, and Supernatural Research club president, Aya Kagawa. Things hadn't quite worked out that way.

Instead, you are experiencing an unnatural situation that has knocked your friends and all the customers in the Osaka Jewelry store unconscious. The only people that are still conscious are you and Naru.... and that other thing, 'it'. You don't know what 'it' is, only that it has an aura that makes your skin crawl and shiver from terror. But you have to do something despite the fear that grips your heart and nails your feet to the ground.

You've come to a decision, one that you made in the split second upon hearing Naru scream. Your hand shakily reaches down into your school bag to pull out your scissors. It is an old style antique 'wabasami'. A gift given to you by your grandparents in celebration for your very first day of school some 9 years ago. It is a truly unique handcrafted piece, you can't recall any other kid in your school who boasted of such an unusual school implement.

It has faithfully served you all these years, kept extra sharp with a small whetstone. In the years that you owned it, it has only clipped paper and small pieces of wood. Now it is about to be turned into an impromptu weapon. Could such a short blade, no matter how sharp and keen, really hurt a monster?

You don't know and don't give it any more thought on it as you charge out from your hiding space. You begin praying in your head as you do.

'Please don't turn around.'

You see Naru cornered by 'it' and being throttled. Large clawed hands wrapped tight around her neck as she begs in pained gasps, "stop it, Mom" with truly heartbreaking desperation.

You're very close now, and they are so absorbed in each other that there was no way they realized that you were charging straight at them. The monster oblivious is gloating and toying with Naru.

"I'm not your mother! Your mother is locked up in the basement. After I kill you..."

'It' didn't get to finish it's evil boasting. You slam yourself bodily into 'it' with as much force as possible, thrusting the short blades deep into the back. The blades cut easily through dry papery skin and hits bone with a jarring force. It was like stabbing particularly dry and crackly plaster, and the sound of the cut was more like crumbling sand skittering down a hill. Instead of blood pouring out, it is some sort of black gunk that oozes and twitches in odd directions. 'It' drops Naru from it's grip like a sack of potato.

You feel sick, and want to throw up. You had never done something so violent and dangerous ever in your life. You knees shake and you take a step back from 'it'. The blade of the scissors easily retreating from the wound you made.

'It' is still standing though, you can't tell if you hurt it at all.

That's when the monster's head whips around 180 degrees and focuses it's burning red eyes on you.

"You little brat..."

It raises it's fist to strike you.

Given that's a fail, would you like to use a bonus dice of +1d6 from Will? If you do so, you won't be able to use it again for the scene.

Hm, actually, this is a slow board. I should probably leave this open for longer.
So if other wants to roll, they can do so.
Also if your roll fails, you can always opt to use the bonus dice.

As the fist of the monster comes swooping down, you realize that you need to dodge. Yet the command from your brain to your body to move is like a slow moving turtle aware it needs to hurry since a hurtling car about to run it over. You feel cold all over as the monster's burning eyes of hate freezes the very blood in your veins and weighs down your feet.

Yet, not moving means dying at the hands of this thing. Tears prickle at the corner of your eyes at the thought. You dredge up whatever strength was still left in you and summon that extra boost of willpower to not stand around frozen with fear and let the monster smash you to bit. You stumble backwards to get away, barely managing in time to dodge the blow and hurrying to get as far away as possible. You felt the wind whistle in your ear as the clawed hand of the monster passed by where your head originally was.

However, you neglected to ensure that the escape path behind was clear and end up stumbling on one of the fallen customers. You fall and land on your butt, pure desperation makes you energetically flail your arms to find a way to scramble away from it towards a long display case. Your desperate hope is to somehow hide away from the monster's sight. You might be able to manage that.

The monster floats upwards and loom over you, it had a clear view of the store from above and you no longer have any option to hide.

'... It can fly, great. Just what I needed.'

You are out of options. And the monster looked super pissed off since you stabbed it and stretches it arm unnaturally long so that it can attack you from a distance. Why are you not surprised it can do something as freaky as extend its clawed hands to any length? From the corner of your eye, you can see that Naru had fainted after being dropped by the monster.

"Now die!" It shouts and begins to aim it's claws at you.

"GET AWAY FROM HER!"

There is a shout from behind you where the entrance of the store is, this distracts the monster and causes it to focus its attention on the newcomer. You don't know who it is, but you can't even imagine how a normal person could possibly defeat this thing.

"Who are you!?" The monster demands to the stranger, you haven't dared to take your eyes off the monster. You struggle to rise to your feet.

"Um, I... I am the Sailor Warrior of Love and Justice. Sailor Moon! In the name of the moon, I will punish you."

The situation has gone from horror film to a hero film somehow. You are up on your feet now and take the chance to peek behind you to see who it is. It is an exceedingly odd sight. A girl, no older than you, with a golden tiara and white Sailor suit is posing as she confidently recited her motto.

"Sailor Moon? I've never heard of such a ridiculous thing."

You find yourself agreeing. What the hell could a girl like this do? To a monster like that?

"Awaken! My slaves that gave their energy to my great ruler." The monster commands.

Wait, what?

You watch as the customers in the store and your two friends, rise from the ground where they were laying. Their movements are jerky and their eyes are blank, but they are all upright and ready to seize you and the other girl

Fight a horde of brainwashed zombies/people? Out of the question! You barely convinced yourself to stab that monster to save Naru. Besides, this many enemies simply means they would surround and overwhelm you by their vast numbers. They were doing exactly that right now with that Sailor Moon girl who is barely able to dodge the attacks of the brainwashed crowd.

You want to hide but how and where? Your eyes are drawn to the stairs close by. You could hide under them, out of sight of the monster and let Sailor Moon deal with whatever the hell this was. You were so done with this nightmare.

"WAAAAAH. I don't wanna do this any more!" Sailor Moon is wailing somewhere.

'You and me both girl...' You can't help but sympathize with the unlucky heroine fighting all alone against the crazy crowd. You almost dashed to your chosen hiding place when you see Tomio and Aya rushing forth with the mob towards where Sailor Moon has retreated to. Seeing them reminded you that your friends were under the control of that monster and you can't just abandon them.

You look longingly at your hiding spot like a man gazes covetously upon water when stuck in a desert.

"Oh, fuck my life."

You turn your back on your little oasis of safety and sally forth into danger once more.

You aim for your best friend Tomio first. He was physically quite fit and strong since he was a regular at the obstacle course playground with you for years. So you felt that you needed to stop him while he was still unaware that you were gunning for him. You can't figure out how to stop him without hurting him badly though.

A fog of strange black aura hovers over his neck.

Wait, that necklace with the jewel pendant. That's where the strange aura is coming from. You sneak up from behind Tomio easily since no one is paying attention to you. You deftly snatch the chain of the necklace when you're close behind him and rip it off. The chain snaps easily and the tall boy freezes as though stunned before slumping to the ground unconscious.

It was the jewelry, you need to grab the jewelry off your friends.

The sudden collapse of Tomio unfortunately attracts the attention of Aya, who is wearing far more jewelry. A necklace, two bracelets and a ring with a gigantic jewel on it. You can see the dark sinister aura hovering on them.

Before you can reach Aya to grab at the cursed pieces of jewelry. Your diminutive sempai, punches you in the face. The ring cuts your cheek and you feel agony as the taste of blood floods your mouth. You cut the inside of your cheek on your teeth. You can't help but be amazed by the strength Aya just displayed. She was actually a supremely unathletic type, you never would have suspected that she could pack such a punch.

You grab the necklace and bracelets off of Aya. It's easy enough, the metal was thin and easy to rip off with a bit of force but as you're doing this, she is punching you all the while. The ring on her right hand was a particularly painful problem. You grabbed her right fist to immobilize Aya and try to wrench off the ring, but all the while you were doing this Aya was hammering your body with her left fist with all the force she could muster. It was painful, you know that a giant bruise was forming over your right side.

With a desperate strength that you didn't know you had in you, you force open Aya's right hand and pluck the ring off her finger.

Like a doll whose strings have been cut, Aya collapses to the ground.

So do you, you are in immense pain but filled with satisfaction that you managed to stop your friends from being puppeted by the monster any more.

As for the actual defeat of the enemy. You'll have to leave that up to Sailor Moon. You lay on your back, looking up at the ceiling of the jewelry store while listening to the sound of battle.

"THIS IS SO SCARY!"

... You guess things aren't going well. Damn, you had been hoping that you didn't have to get up and try to help. But before you can force yourself to get up, you see there is a dark figure outside the second floor window who forces it open. You almost want to laugh, it is a tall dark haired man in a white mask wearing a tuxedo and opera cape. You can't help but think he looks remarkably silly up there, standing on the ledge of the window so dramatically. The window is fully open which allows the wind to dramatically billow his cape.

"I wanna go home." You hear Sailor Moon crying inelegantly somewhere.

"This ends now!" The monster screams

The masked man tosses a rose like it's a knife to interrupt the monster's attack. That should be impossibly, you giggle hysterically but today was a day for impossibilities. You roll on to your stomach and to turn your field of vision on Sailor Moon. You can't see her because the crowd blocks your view.

"I am Tuxedo Mask. Crying isn't going to solve anything Sailor Moon." You hear the masked man declare.

You're inclined to agree but holy shit, you can barely bring yourself to blame Sailor Moon from crying. If you survive this, you are going to cry so hard.

In fact, Sailor Moon must be in same sort of mindset as you. Because she starts crying even louder. A cacophony assaults your ears and the brainwashed crowd. It is an amazingly powerful sonic attack. Perhaps because you're already laying on the ground, the attack doesn't seem to affect you by much. The women who were puppeted by the monster all collapse to the ground, while monster itself is badly shaken and unable to attack.

Who are you focusing your attention on?

As an aside, I've reduced the age of Mamoru Chiba to his high school age in the manga. I did not particularly like the anime aging him up.

You keep watching Sailor Moon to see what she does next. You don't know how but it seems she's listening to someone as she stands up shakily and grabs the tiara on her head. You don't see anyone who could possibly be talking to her though, rose throwing boy wasn't saying anything. Yet she is moving as though she's under instructions from someone.

The tiara in her hand transforms into a golden energy disk, hovering now just above her hand. It's brightness doesn't hurt your eyes, in fact it is almost comforting. Just its presence alone seems to annihilate the strange and unnatural miasma permeating the room because of the monster.

"Moon Tiara Action!"

The disk of gold energy is released towards the monster. It's smooth and speedy arc closes the distance to the stunned monster until it realized too late that an attack had been launched.

It attempts to dodge but the stiffness of its movement shows the sonic attack and maybe your stab attack had done enough to slow it down. It unleashes as an unnatural guttural scream upon getting hit by the golden disk of energy.

The flash of light blinds you but you keep your attention on the mysterious Sailor Moon. Who was she? Did you know her from somewhere? Was there something distinctive about her you can use to identify her true identity?

Yet as you try to be observant, your usually vaunted power of observation cannot pierce the disguise or gather any useful information. You physically feel that your senses are dulled by some outside force and giving out false information.

Her hair was blue? No it's grey... No, it's black. The more you stare at her, the more confused and uncertain you are of her physical features and the costume she is wearing. Could something be interfering with your ability to see?

The monster is defeated, and crumbles into dust. The dust pile that was once the monster then disappears as though it never existed. You feel instantly better, you no longer feel oppressed by the unnatural presence of the monster and the strange black miasma that infected the room has been totally cleared away. The jewelry the affected women were wearing shattered to dust and disappeared also. It's over, your body relaxes as it releases the tension that you had been putting yourself through since everything started.

"Good job, Sailor Moon." Tuxedo Mask congratulates the heroine and makes his dramatic exit from the window.

You aren't quite sure what to think of Tuxedo Mask. He feels like a bit of a dick. You can tell from watching Sailor Moon that her face is all red from that farewell from him. You figure it's because she's kind of offended.

"He's gorgeous!" The mysterious heroine squeals with joy. Her eyes are full of hearts for the departing masked boy.

.... What?

Then she turns her attention on you and runs over.

"Oh my gosh, Ruka-chan, are you all right?!" Her eyes were full of concern over your injuries. The wound on your cheek has stopped bleeding but it must look ugly. Your blood has stained not only the cheek but also part of your school uniform.

Wait, how does she know your name?!

"It looks worse than it is, really... and.... and do I know you? Why do you know my name?"

The heroine stiffens, realizing she had said something she probably she shouldn't have.

You suddenly hear a voice from behind one of the display cases, hidden away so you can't see who it is.

"Sailor Moon, we got to leave! Now!" A firm voice of an older woman orders.

"No, wait. I have questions! You can't just leave me..." You're pissed, they're going to leave you and not explain what the hell happened?

"I'm sowwy!" Sailor Moon blubbers as she exits the jewelry store.

You are exhausted and in pain, you can't be bothered to get up and chase after them. You watch the retreating back of Sailor Moon. You don't feel too bad about it though, because to your left and right is your friends, Tomio and Aya. Safe and breathing steadily, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them. Things are back to normal.

"Oh god, Ruka!" Naru cries out and hurries over to you. She must have regained conscious earlier, her eyes are full of tears.

"I'm calling the police and hospital." Naru rushes to the phone.

"I'll just... uh... lay here then." Everything hurts but hey, that just means you're still live.

You let Naru take care of things, god knows you've been running around and straining every fiber of your being to 'help'. You just stay laying on your stomach and burying your face in to the floor with your eyes close. You find yourself reviewing the events of the day, from start to finish.

Today started out like any other day; breakfast with dad, school with your friends and classmates, club activities and then going off to do something fun after school. Nothing at all was warning you that crazy supernatural events were going put the lives of you and your friends in danger. You research Supernatural stuff, you don't actually want to undergo and experience it.

The stress of it all finally gets to you, and you begin to sniffle... then tears start streaming down your cheeks... Finally you start bawling full out. It was the most inelegant crying you've done in years, the last time was probably when you watched your mother walk out of the house and never look back.

And it physically hurt; the act of crying, hiccupping and hiccoughing wrecks havoc on the bruised ribs on your right side. It seems that all the noise you're making causes Tomio and Aya to wake up from their strange coma.

Tomio blinks and tests his hand, making a fist and undoing it as though he is surprised that he can move at all. While Aya opens her eyes suddenly and appears to be in state of complete confusion.

Both hear the last dying wails of your ugly crying and are utterly shocked.

"RUKA!" They both shout and being to scramble to get to you as quickly possible.

"You're bleeding!" Tomio face is utterly white as he sees the gash on your cheek, your blood dried into a brownish red patch on your skin and clothing.

"Are you hurt elsewhere? What happened?" Aya asks as she kneels down.

Both your friends reach out to hold your outstretched hands. It's a comfort, you feel the warmth of their skin. The evidence that they aren't controlled by that cold black aura any more, are your old friends once again.

You want to go home and hug your dad next.

Wait... what are you going to tell your dad?

Your head is swimming from the events of today. You can't keep your eyes open any longer, and soon you find yourself plunging into the darkness of unconsciousness.

I am interested, though I don't seem to have caught you while live.

Will Ruka be accidentally catching, uh, all of the Sailor incidents live? Or will she have a merciful break from some of them to pursue some...slice of life? What else besides canon will she be living in?
>>
>>4894910
Ruka can potentially catch all the events the Sailor Scouts get involved with if certain choices are made by players, but you are also free to pursue other stuff like slice of life and investigating issues.

This is a quest, if it seems that canon is the main thing right now, that's only because this is the first thread. You haven't had the opportunity to derail canon yet with, say for example ruining Nephrite's financial empire on Earth by sicking the Japanese Tax authorities on it for tax fraud and insider trading.
