/qst/ - Quests

The First High King, Alaric, has been lost in the Dragon Scale Mountains. However his legacy will not be lost, especially with numerous children he had. The one wields the sword known as Fortage is Theoric, first son and now High King of humanity. Now he will need to consolidate his realm, somehow manage his numerous siblings in what will be the greatest political game for humanity to date. Add in that they are all family, well, things are going to get bad.

>>RULES<<

>Write in as acceptable as long as they follow the rule above. If its clever enough I might even add some of it to the result elected
>If you pick multiple options of what I already gave you, without being out of the box, it will harm the character since they are doing more than they are naturally capable of.
>Normally here I would say something like, ‘be kind’, but this is 4chan so I wont even bother making it a rule.
>Don’t be afraid to discuss things, just remember that there are some limitations thanks to both culture and technology. Hell, you guys could discuss whether it's better to make a Holy Roman Empire Electoral System or just go Partition.

These last few weeks have been quite derry for the Fortress of Man. Everyday the rain would batter the walls of the mountain, causing a modest amount of flooding in the nearby fields of crops. While they were not destructive enough to harm people, the simple matter of fact was the people knew what was happening.

Theoric, first of his name, looked down from his Father’s throne with a sigh. He felt himself relax in it, not really knowing what to think of this all.

His brother, Anthanric was holding his own back in the Western Kingdom. It was agreed between the two of them that they would divide the realm as such, with the first born gaining the title of High King. As for the rest of his siblings, they granted numerous fortresses and cities to them, splitting the total sixty six children into thirty two for each of them.

Yup, Thirty Two Siblings all looking towards Theoric for guidance. By the Gods, he sometimes wished his father did not have so many wives.

It was then that the throne room heard resounding thumps. The Throne room was already silent in morning, thus they did not need to be strong to make a statement. Rising from his hands, Theoric looked up to see a modestly aged dwarf look back at him.

“Hev?” The young man said almost quizzically as he looked towards the man, “You’ve come back.”

“Aye, I have.” The Dwarf said sobered. Normally dwarves always had a smell of alcohol on them, so much so that to Theoric the advisor reeked as sweat and grass. Simply out, this dwarf had stopped drinking for at least a few weeks.

“What news do you bring? What is the status of my father?” Theoric asked, hesitant to the reply.

“Five weeks ago he fought the dragon, a battle so damning that I was blown away through their might.” The Dwarf answered as he tightened his grip, “After slicing the beast’s throat, Alaric was taken by the beast and flown into the mountains.”

“And I take it there was no body?”

“Nay, I searched for the Dragon’s nest for weeks but to no luck did I have.” Hev answered as he looked up towards the new High King, “However the High King bathed in Dragon’s blood, so not even the beast itself will dare to eat his corpse. However the Dragon had the upper hand, so I expect he is still dead.”

There was a lul in the room, with Hev looking as if he was expecting himself to be upon the chopping block. However much to everyone’s surprise, or maybe they should have expected it, the High King waved his hand in a dismissal.

“Do not worry about that, I was there when my Father decided to go forth and face the Dragon himself.” Hev declared as he beckoned Hev forward, “Come, friend, we have much to plan for. We should first celebrate my father’s achievements in light of his passing.”

“A funeral then?”

“What else can we do?” Theoric pointed out as he thought about it a little bit more, “Even with an empty casket, many will come to mourn his death. And by doing so, they will move onwards from there.”

“A Respect he will surely enjoy.” The Dwarf sounded in agreement, “Though what style of funeral do you wish for your Father?”

The Second King’s brow rose at that, “What do you mean by that? Would we not place him on the funeral furnace?”

“Ah, I was correct, it seems that you’ve been hanging out with us Dwarfs too much.” Hev joked as he tried his best to be less dour, “I believe it is traditional for man to bury their dead wherever the chance comes.”

“Now that you say that, that does make sense.” Theoric admitted as he thought to himself a little bit more, “I remember my Mother talking about the Valley of Heroes, a place where great men all are buried. However, that was in our homeland past the Mountain Gap. It would take an expedition to get there while carrying no corpse.”

“Indeed, though taking your Father’ Caskett to that place might be your first great deed in the eyes of the people.” Hev pointed out as he shook his head, “We Dwarfs would understand why you would bury the King, however I feel it would be good to stick with the burning. It will set a good precedent, and you never know what a Dark Lord can do with Corpses of Fallen Heroes.”

I want to blaze a path that can be made to the mountains. We have claims on acient human domains, we should seek to put presedent and claims on it. The first true humanhigh king is buried there.

I just realized we won't really have a name for our kingdom.

We need to earn the kingdom's love. Everyone griefs Alaric, not only his family
>>
>>4884675
Ehh, that's more of a title description.

I mean something like Albion or Rus or whatever.
>>
>>4884780
Its currently unnecessary. Since there ir no other kingoms of man, there is no need to create a name to differentiate us with others. Thats how the human mind works, you are because there is an other who you are not. Thus, it would not make sense for a tribe who doesn't know about the existence of others to have a name of its own, because they simply are, and since we are the only humans around, the Kingdom of Man is good enough.
>>
>>4884789
I honestly doubt we are the only humans on the entire planet, I figured we were the majority of humans on the continent or landmass we are on.

“Indeed, such great deeds must never go unnoticed.” Theoric demanded as he looked out of the room, “Thus he should be buried where the rest are, even if there is no corpse.”

Hev looked at the High King with a little bit of longing before nodding, “Indeed if it is sacred among your people, than making the trip will likely set your name within stone. At least for a little while.”

“So we will need to arrange a party to head over there.”

“Aye, since I was the one to take him towards his death I will follow, however after that we need to get a guide. Someone to lead us over there.” Hev pointed out as he hummed to himself.

“My mother and his Sisters won't know, or anyone close to my age.” The High King pointed out as he thought to himself, “Than that means we will need to get one of the old Chieftans to lead the way.”

“I… do not like that.” Hev pointed out as he shook his head, “While the common people love him for getting them new lives, the Old Chiefs were the ones who Alaric never treated well. While some would keep some power, many lost their position since many of your siblings probably took over their keeps.”

“If that is true, then maybe I should just ask someone like my Grandfather.” Theoric pointed out.

“He might be a good man, but honestly your Father’s Harem was so large I could not track the quality of Grandparents. Let it be known you never met the fellow.” Hev pointed out.

“Then do you have any other ideas?”

“We do have some old maps in the Dwarven Keeps, some going East. If we use the tales we might be able to find the way over by ourselves.”

“Troubling…”

“It is, but such is the risk you are willing to take.

“I think my Grandfather shall be the guide.” Theoric elected as he rose from his throne, “Time is brushing us by Hev, we should get going now.”

“Damn humans and your sense of time.” Hev joked before going to Theoric’s side, “And who shall lead the Kingdom in your sted?”

“My Brother shall be a good pick.” Theoric decided as he hefted his blade, “He is competent, and we should not be longer than a few months.”

“A few months? Quite short but it makes sense.” Hev decided as he felt out his legs, “These legs must be the most traveled of Dwarvenkind.”

“Then they will call you Hev the Traveler.” Theoric joked as he made sure the sword Fortage was secure, “Let us be off!”

And with a decision struck, the two of them began their travels. Of course Theoric made sure to send a message to his brother, but right now they were traveling towards the small village that Theoric learned the old man was living from his mother. She did not seem very enthused about it, but still gave the location.

They were located near Dragon Scale Mountains, as if they were making sure their backs were against a wall. Theoric thought nothing much of it and happily made his way towards the small place. Soon he came across the village, with the people’s eyes wide as he approached. A few of them quickly ran off, soon returning with a rather old man with unenthused eyes.

However they started to widen as he looked upon Theoric, “I am Chief Izdajice, may I ask who has come before me?”

With a smile upon his face Theoric made his way forward, “I am Theoric, High King of the Kingdom of Man, as well as your Grandson.”

The man seemed to change with a variety of emotions, his eyes narrowing before widening in disbelief, “M-My Grandson?”

“This is not the best place to talk family matters.” Hev announced as he took a few steps in front of Theoric, “We should go in and have you two share a drink. Ignite that feeling of Kinship!”

“Oh, yes yes! Give me a moment to prepare something worthy of your Highness!” The man said before almost running away from them.

Theoric gave Hev a glance, the Dwarf simply shrugging, “You men are weird sometimes, the cleanliness of the house doesn’t matter as long as the mead is good.”

“I would second that.” Theoric admitted, remembering how he would sometimes hang out with his some dwarven children.

The two soon made their way forward, soon arriving at what looked like a more permanent Chieftain's hut. Soon the man himself came out, a smile upon his face, “Come on in now, everything is ready.”

“Alright, let us dine on some good spirits!” Theoric announced as they walked into the room.

What they were welcomed to was a nice size dinner, the plates all filled with gamey meats. It was a King sized meal, “Things look like you were prepared for a party!”

“It is not everyday that the High King comes, so I asked some of my people to prepare something for you.” Theoric’s Grandfather admitted with a small chuckle before sitting down and placing a few mugs of spirits in front of the man and Dwarf, “Now, how can I help you?”

After accepting the mug of ale Theoric decided to give the man a pitch, “I wish to travel towards the valley of heroes, placing the caskett of Alaric there.”

The man before him seemed to stop for a moment, giving Theoric an odd glance, “Were they able to find his body?”

“Sadly no, however I have decided that even without a body we should give him a Hero’s Burial.”

The old man seemed to give an uneasy chuckle as he sat down, “So what do you need from me again?”

“I want you to lead us there.”

The man seemed confused for a moment, deciding what exactly he was to do. There seemed to be quite a few changes as he thought the hardest he could, before settling on a nod, “Very well, I know the way just as every chieftain knows.”

“Thank you!” Theoric laughed as he began to eat the food before him, “I hope to spend a good amount of time with you, Grandpa.”

The man himself just shook his head as he got up, “I am not feeling very hungry, so I am going to prepare a place for you to stay.”

“Night is coming,” Theoric admitted as he ate up.

With that time went past, and soon they were done eating. A servant came over and guided them towards a rather nice sized home, with a good amount of furnishings. However the first thing that was to catch Theoric’s eyes was the man standing outside the place.

“Are you Theoric?” The man asked as he got off the building and walked towards them.

“High King Theoric, who might I be speaking to?”

“Kretenu, grandson of Izdajice.” He declared as he looked at Theoric with sharpening eyes, “And I take it you are my Cousin?”

“Of course.”

With the confirmation given, the man walked his way towards Theoric with a small bit of determination in his step, “Know this, High King, no matter what you do you will never be a part of the family.”

“Really, no matter what I do or say to you?” Theoric joked with a smirk on his face, “Does that make you a prophet of some kind? Did you see your god in a pond or your own piss?”

“Y-you bastard!” The man was starting to seeth as he heard Theoric’s joke, “You make fun of the gods that easily!?”

“Don’t think yourself too bright, idiot.” The High King answered as he gave a hearty laugh belonging to only the Dwarfs, “Now you are going to tell me that you are going to attack me on the road, when Grandpa is leading us! Is that your plan? Atleast you are upfront with it.”

With those words the man before Theoric seemed to finally turn around from just a seething rage towards a clerity only given from so much anger, “You will pay for those words, High King.”

“And you cannot neglect the fact I am your Cousin.” Theoric fired back at him.

“Well that was rude, very rude.” Hev mentioned as they walked into the building, “I guess I underestimated how badly these people hated you.”

“But there really is nothing they can do about it, my brothers and sisters hold every fort and city this side of the world.” The High King mentioned with a smirk, “They would be stupid to try anything.”

“Aye they would need to be as stupid as him.” Hev joked while pointing at the door, “Well time for my last rest on a soft bed for a while, after this it's going to be nothing but dirt.”

Time went by fast, and soon they were on the road. The roads of course were dirt, which meant it was kinda cumbersome to be traveling on them. However Theoric did not mind it, as at this moment he was exploring his kingdom more or less.

“If my memory is right, we should head straight for the Mountain Gap.” Izdaijice claimed as they made a few more feet forward, “With that, we should be able to make a straight way towards the Valley.”

“That sounds about right.” Theoric said to himself.

>Sure, faster they get this done faster Theoric can get working on other things.

“But I want to make a tour of this!” Theoric announced as they continued their walk, “How about you Hev, that Caskett heavy enough for ya?”

“Ha! I can carry this thing everywhere.” The Dwarf boasted as they made a few feet, “From Dragon Scale Mountains to the Valley of Heroes, it will be quite the Journey for a simple piece of wood.”

“Indeed it will be.” Theoric answered back.

“Oh, is that so? Is there a direction you wish to go my Lord?”

“Well that is the question, isn’t it? I know one of my Sisters is up near the North. She always had a good amount of pies for me to eat.”

“How about her booze?”

“Of course the best part, yes she has that too.” Theoric gave a positive affirmation to the dwarf.

“May I recommend a few fellows a little further west of here then?” Izdajice asked with a small sigh, “If I knew we were gone for this long, maybe it would be good to get some beasts of burden for us.”

“It can be considered.”

“Well I guess if everyone is throwing their hats in the ring, why don’t we visit my kin at Timberfall’s keep.” Hev answered back a little offhandedly, “I know by brother there has quite good mead, and you’re own brother has the surface right?”

“Lets visit the Keep then.” Theoric answered kinda reluctantly, “It might be a good idea to visit him.”

With a destination chosen they made their way South, towards the place known as Timberfall’s keep. The reason for such a name, of course, was that it was quite literally covered in trees. Reason for its building was so that they could protect themselves against the aggression of Elves, or at least that's what the Dwarfs recommended.

Traveling from the semi-open plains to the forest was not hard, and soon they caught sight of a modest sized keep. It was nothing too insane compared to Theoric’s Keep of Man but nothing on this side of the world could eclipse it.

The Guards, upon seeing Theoric, quickly got around to helping them all gather some supplies. However while his fellows were doing that Theoric knew he had to make his way up the keep to its highest point.

He did not bother to knock, since he was infact the High King. There, sitting on his desk with a series of tablets and papers was his brother Ugir.

“Theoric, I did not expect you to come in today!” The young man said as he quickly came and shook his hand, “Lucky for both of us I hold some mead in the back. What brings you by?”

“A drink would be nice.” Theoric answered before taking a seat, “I thought I’d come by and check up on you while I travel towards the Valley of Heroes.”

“The Valley of Heroes?” Ugir said with a raised brow, “That place that old heroes of man were put to rest? Did you find father’s corpse?”

“No, it is simply a symbolic journey and maybe a pilgrimage.”

“I don’t see why you would bother.” Ugir answered back as he took a swig of drink, “You know as well as I do that Father didn’t really care for the old ways. They were the ones who battered and abused him before he took up the sword.”

“Sounds like you got your own stick up your ass.” Theoric answered back as he looked towards his half brother.

“Well you can say I have a little gripe.” He took out a small map of the area, “Now you know I rule over these regions, and thats not only by our agreement but from my mother. Now, my Grandpa kicked the bucket a little bit ago and instead of giving me what was mine they gave it to a cousin.”

“So you claim their title?”

“Of course, right now I don’t have enough people. Doubly so if the Chieftains decide to start causing a little havoc.” Ugir gave Theoric a look, “Brother, even with these men below you and most of us sharing their blood, they do not see us as family. With your permission I want to cull their ranks before something happens.”

Theoric thought to himself, walking towards an opening to look over the lands, “You ask something so selfish of me, something that could spit in the image of our father?”

“Our Father was a conqueror, was he not?”

“Aye, he was. I feel he would have wanted a united humanity where everyone pushes forward towards prosperity.” Theoric summarised to himself as he looked Ugir in the eyes, “But is that even possible?”

“Nay, I don’t think you could get as many brides as he did.” Ugir answered back with a smirk.

“Yup, who knows if I would be able to get a second.” Theoric shook his head while walking over back to his brother, “The Age of the Chieftains is over, the Age of Kings has risen. Crush those who stand against you brother, knowing I will have your back.”

“I will make sure our Brothers and Sisters know of those words then, they will be happy to get started claiming what is rightfully ours.” He answered back, “But for now, care to have some drink I managed to get from the Elves?”

“You’ve actually talked to them?” Theoric summarized as he accepted the bottle, “Weren’t we told this stuff is shit?”

“Personally I have not, but it seems a few men were industrious enough to go down there and buy some. If I understood the man right, these were old bottles from an Elvish Senator who was on his last legs and looking for food.”

“Exchanging food for alcohol? I’m surprised he did not drink it himself.”

“Guess he's not as smart as you or me.” Ugir said while pouring the mugs full of it, “However it does make me wonder what is happening down there.”

“It does not matter to us now though, cheers brother. Tomorrow you expand your realm, and I stake a claim over our ancient lands.” Theoric brought his glass forward to his friend.

“Aye, lets hope you don’t trip on the way!” Ugir joked as the night quickly went away.

It was a flash for Theoric, as soon it was morning with only a few rags on his body. Taking a moment to look around, it was evident he did not get any bed fellows that night, though the feeling in his head probably meant it was one hell of a time with his brother.

Though as he thought to himself for a moment, he was lacking in a department. After this little journey, he will probably need to find a wife of somekind. Maybe he will search for a brilliant one, or maybe secure his bonds with a Sister of his. Then again, that might be the dumbest thing he could do there.

However now was the time to get moving, on to the rest of the Kingdom.

I thought we were just taking out Kretenu and his friendly and rebellious faction not purging all the chieftains.

>A cave is good enough.

I've fought off worse with 3 consecutive civil wars and, and 1 regular war, with a holy war alliance against me, rough at the same time or for the same ruler I was playing.

Only thing it taught me was to pre-emptively murderfuck the hell out of anyone who didn't like me, and execute all blood relatives during the civil wars. I killed a lot of houses and bloodlines. stupid computer just generates new ones to keep the numbers consistent

Like we could have made the chieftains dukes or barons depending on how much the contribute to the new kingdom and how big or powerful their group is. Giving a path for the future for them is far more peaceful for those who accept. For those who do not however.....

What was weeks turned into months, and Theoric was happily making his way around the Kingdom. He had met with a series of his Siblings during such a time, each of them grateful to see him and asking for little things here and there. Most actually related to the declaration of war, which made Theoric realize just how vital an issue it was.

It might be the Era of Kings, but every man was still for themselves. While he realized he was losing little pieces of power here and there doing so made his Vassals like him that little bit more.

“So what exactly were you doing with your people, Hev?” Theoric asked as they made their way forward.

“I was visiting, getting some good drink and finding out whats life been like within the new holds.” He answered back while taking a small drink, “Also, visiting them helps the mind ease itself.”

“Good to see ya start drinking again.” Theoric joked.

“Aye, this ale actually has taste now.”

With a small chuckle Theoric called forward towards his Grandpa, “So where you think we should stay?”

“I know of a cave right around the corner.” He said before they came across a small hole in the wall, “There it is.”

Clearing the brush, the two of them got a good view of a cave. Coming a little closer to the place, it was quite a cozy looking place for them to sleep. Though it could do with a little bit less brush.

“Where did you hear about this place?” Theoric asked as they took a seat and started a small fire.

“I led my tribe through here once, it was a nice place for us to rest.” He answered while getting out a small pot and boiling some meats.

“Really? My Mother always said you all stayed about in the middle of it all. You were this far North?”

“Of course we were, your mother was just too young to remember it.” He answered before throwing a small animal into the boiling water.

“I mean, maybe, but wasn’t she sixteen back then?”

“Ha! We humans have been on the run for much longer than that. At one point we humans were masters of our own destiny, each tribe their own.” He said while sniffing the stew, “Though now we are free of the Warboss and the High Chief.”

“Indeed, such were the feats of my father.” Theoric answered back.

“Indeed, he was quite the man.” The Chief said as he took out a small bowl and handed threw a little broth into it, “Do you want to have a taste, my leige?”

Something was not right, that much Theoric realized, since when did his Grandfather cook them a meal at the campfire?

“Grandfather, who exactly were you meeting while me and Hev were meeting with family?” Theoric asked as his eyes slowly widened.

“The Council of Chieftains were together when you first came unexpectedly.” Izdajice answered him as he stirred the stew, “They realised that Alaric’s plan was, to make us all minor people in his empire by sicking his entire family upon us. All of them of our blood, we were being crushed by our own spawn’s spawn.”

“Aye, thats how a Vassal works.” Hev called out as he drew a hammer.

“At one point in man’s history we were all free, free to choose what we gave and held for ourselves. Now we are forced to give everything we own, while those who are more Dwarf than Man decide everything for us.” The Grandfather answered as he shook his head, “At least, thats what everyone else thinks.”

“And yourself, Grandpa?” Theoric asked as he placed his hand upon his sword.

“I decided to side with my people.”

It was then that the bushes were all parted to show a series of young men. There was a small cough coming from Izdajice, the man leaving the cave as one of the young men about Theoric’s age walked forward.

It was Kretenu, “So here we are, you at the end of my sword.”

“Aye, seems so.” Theoric answered back with a smirk.

“These are our demands, grant us Freedom from the Rule of your siblings and a Council to which even you shall answer to. Let our voices be heard, and you will leave here alive.”

“Hev, can you see how deep the cave is?” Theoric asked as he slowly drew his sword.

“Can’t see the bottom of it.” He answered as he tightened his grip upon his hammer.

“Good enough for me!” Theoric rushed forward, striking at the Chieftan’s Grandson with a precise strike right into the boy’s chest, “No deal you fuckers, see you in the depths!”

“Fucker!” He cried as Theoric turned around and grabbed his Dwarvish Advisor, “GET THEM!”

“Damn you humans want to run fast!” Hev announced as Theoric tried his best to drag him, “TURN RIGHT!”

Quickly Theoric did as he was asked, barely missing what he realized was a wall. He cursed himself, barely able to see except for the fires of their invaders. With a small curse, he decided the last thing he could do was pick up one hell of a weight.

“WHOA!” Hev cried out as he was barely lifted into the air, “You fine there friend?”

“Kinda!” Theoric cried out as he started running forward, “GUIDE!”

“Left, after a few steps right!”

“GOT IT!”

His body screamed as the two went deeper and deeper into the caverns. Quickly did Theoric lose sight, but he had complete trust in his Dwarfish Advisor. The fellow was actually pretty good at leading them, as if it was second nature to him.

Then again, going through tunnels for a Dwarf might be comparable to a forest for man. They can get lost, but damn do they have a knack for it.

“Alright, stop here, we got enough distance.” Hev said while jumping out of Theoric’s arms, “Never thought I’d be carried like that.”

“Pressing times means we need to do better.” Theoric answered back while collapsing, “I can’t fucking see.”

“Here you’ve been reared by us dwarfs and you don’t know your way around the cave?”

Hev was right, but Theoric just needed a moment to collect himself. He might not be able to see, but that did not mean he could not sense where things were.

“Anyways, luckily for us we will see them long before they see us.” Hev announced cheerfully.

“Yeah, well can you wake me up when they actually find us.” Theoric said as he found a small wall and placed his back against it, “You weighed too fucking much.”

“Didn’t ask ya to carry me.” The Dwarf shot back while giving a hearty laugh, “But you got some of your father strength it looks like.”

“Have I? Well I’ll count that as lucky and call it a day.” Theoric said as he allowed his limbs to relax.

With that time went by, Theoric barely being disturbed as he had his moment of rest. It was almost peaceful if you discounted the slight dampness of the area. However it did not matter to Theoric, whose life was raised among the caves and mines of Dwarven kind.

After what seemed like forever Theoric woke up, feeling something off as he thought to himself. He woke up by himself, to no-

Never mind, Hev was snoring off to the side. How he missed that was surprising for sure.

“Hev, wake your ass up!” Theoric said as he moved over and through the darkness gave the Dwarf a slap.

“Ugh, what? Where are- Yeah that's right we were running for our lives.” Hev announced as he did something in the darkness, “Cheers then High King, it seems the traitors have not found us.”

“Did you drink yourself to sleep or something?”

“Maybe? It was getting boring that they never found us.” Hev mentioned before grabbing Theoric by the arm, “They probably gave up by now, come along.”

There was not much argument from the High King, since he was a little curious why they were not found yet. Their travels were not for nothing, and soon they saw the breaking of daylight before them. However that was not the only thing they saw.

“What the fuck happened here?” Theoric asked as they looked at the numerous human corpses at the mouth of the cave, “They look to have been torn up by a bunch of beasts…”

“Divine Retribution?” Hev suggested as they looked over them.

“Destruction this bad being Divine? Damn it, does not matter now.” Theoric cursed himself while looking at the sun, “Chances are their rebellion is in full swing.

“Aye, we should get moving.”

So they traveled their way through the realm, as fast as they could. Luckily it was not terribly far to the nearest Barony. Such a place was meant to be the bulwark that protected man against the numerous foes that they needed to face, all known to come from the East.

The Mountain Gap Bastion.

“High King!” One of the men shouted as they quickly ran up to Theoric and looked him over for a moment, “Are you injured!? Did you bring any other men with you?”

“Sans a Dwarf, no.” Theoric answered as he brushed the men away, “Where is my Brother?”

“Roderic is currently in the Barracks my Lord.” The man answered while giving Theoric a nod, “If you may follow me we can head right over here.”

“Don’t be forgetting about me ya dumbass.” Hev announced as he finally caught up with them, “You guys are going to make me keep running after you!”

“Advisor Hev!” The Guard called out as he finally realized before giving a nod, “Do not worry, even now there is not much that can happen until Baron Roderic finished supplying us with arms.”

With that the trio made their way through the place, Theoric noting just how many people were gathering about. Everyone was preparing for war it seems.

“Take these arms to the men, with them we should be ready to start marching at any time!” A man declared as two soldiers took what looked to be a large wagon of armaments. Upon Theoric’s approach the man’s eyes widen in suprise, “Brother!”

“Thats what I am, Roderic.” Theoric declared as the two finally met again, “You got a new name these days?”

“Baron, yeah, it is something the Dwarfs called the holder of a Bastion. I thought it rather fit.” He commented with a smirk, “Though that does not mean much right now, it is good to see you safe.”

“I’d say the same if I didn’t expect it.” Theoric joked, “Whats the situation, been out for a day.”

“At least in our area there was an uprising of the Chieftans. Most of them don’t really want to deal with us Barons, Mayors, and Kings it seems.” the man admitted as he shook his head, “From my understanding to the North they are gathering, maybe try and hold out against us. Besides that I cannot say, you should probably be heading over to the Fortress of Man to raise your own men. I’ll even take you there myself.”

>Yes, let us head over there

“Thank you, brother.” Theoric said as he patted the man on the shoulder, “I was made a fool by them, thinking that we could still trust the old ways who held our blood. I was wrong, and now we must rid the world of them.”

“Thank you, for finally understanding Theoric.” Roderic answered back with a smile, “Let us move onwards towards the Fortress of Man.”

And that they did, making their way through the treacherous hills that dotted the Eastern Mountains. Though them they would cross the forests and even feel the dreadful cold of winter occasionally. Theoric cursed himself some, for his people were forced to participate in wars. Fighting meant not tending to the fields.

However their track was unobscured, the forces of the Chieftains seemed to have been making their way North. From Theoric’s guess they were getting their forces together so they could either hold out or strike at the Fortress of Man.

“Finally, we’ve made it!” Hev announced as they looked over towards the lone mountain.

“Indeed we have.” Theoric agreed as they saw the fields of men already assembling, “Who raised the army though?”

“Hehe, I think we should ask her.” Hev joked as he pointed towards a woman running from one camp to another.

“M-mother!?” Theoric could not believe his eyes as he called out, quickly getting the attention of the loan person.

“Theoric!!” She cried out abandoning whatever she was doing and making it towards their large convoy, “I was worried you had been captured!”

“No I was just, uh, met up with my brother.” Theoric pointed to Roderic as the man got off the beast.

“Matria…” The young man said as he looked towards her, “Uh, shit, uh.”

“Got your tongue cought in a twist, Roderic.” She said before coming over and giving the man a hug, “Thank you for bringing my boy to me. I will make sure you get some food as well.”

“Thank you, M-Matria.”

“Now now, we must get moving. It seems that the Chieftains have decided to hold out in the North for Winter to come. I believe they are hoping to starve us out and use the coming winter.” She announced before grabbing Theoric by the hand, “Come now, we must make a speech to your troops!”

“M-Mother!!” Theoric cried out as he was led by the hand to the Keep’s Balcony.”

“Come on, I know you have it in you.” She halfway demanded as Theoric was halfway up the keep, “You have been both trained for it your entire life, as well as having the blood of myself and Alaric in you.”

“Got it got it!” Theoric cried out as he finally wiggled his way out of her grip, “Mother, I want the balcony check before I walk on it. You know, just in case.”

“I understand that, since you seemed to have been betrayed by my Father.” She admitted while shaking her head, “However I have already rounded up the last of spies that would pose any worry.”

“Wait there were actually spies?” Theoric was flabbergasted as he heard his mother talk.

“Why of course, do you think all of your Father’s wives would be that faithful after his passing?” She asked while patting him on the back, “Enough of that, you need to speak to your men.”

Theoric did not really know what to say, however it was probably better for him not to say anything at all. His Mother was known as the first wife of Alaric for a reason, and he was sure the beast of a woman was not going to settle down just because her lover was dead.

Theoric took a moment, looking at the doors that led outside. With a firmness in his breath, he took one step after another until he was outside above everyone. Before him was a series of men, all looking to have been working until a few moments ago.

Seeing his men, it gave Theoric a reaction he did not think he was going to have.

It was not nervousness. No that would be a detriment to him. No instead he felt what the Dwarven folk described as the Fire of Torn within your chest. A mighty desire to act, knowing that you were going to settle some god damn grudges here today.

With that fire, he took a few steps forward, “Men of the High Kingdom, we have been betrayed by the men of the old ways. They seek to destroy what my late father created and set humanity back into the ways of old. No, I say, we shall not regress.”

Theoric’s words seemed to have traveled among the men, many who were not before stopping their activities if just for a moment.

“You all, who stand before me, are my warriors against the old. Those who shall protect our infantile era! We will defeat them all, in the name of Alaric!”

To those words the men all cheered, and Theoric felt he could have stayed there just a moment longer. However it was time to start hunting people, to bring them all to kneel.

So the marching began, making the marching forces making their way North as they did. It was during this time that Theoric, his brother Roderic, and Hev all planned what to do.

A map was made, and directions were arranged. The army’s destination was only having a slight deviation at first, their scouts checking the area for any stragglers that were around.

It was only a few days later that Theoric learned of the nearest group of Tribals.

“Flank out, we don’t want them to escape.” Theoric ordered his men as they finally marched close enough to see the small wooden huts.

“So what exactly is the plan here?” Hev asked as they approached with a few regiments of men.

“First we need to see if they have any resistance to fight us with.” Theoric said as they slowly saw the men before them.

“Looks like they knew we were coming.” Roderic said with a small shaking of the head, “An army as big as ours is pretty noticeable.”

As they finished their approach, their small force of ragtag tribals against Theoric’s armored men. Such disparity was thanks to the ingenious power of the Dwarfs. However at this point there was not even a numbers disadvantage.

These folk were just stragglers of the bigger herd after all.

“Hail, High King Theoric!” Called out a man as he came towards them, “I am the Chief of this tribe, the Loosss, I wish to ask that you please keep us safe. We are not those traitors!”

It was this moment that Hev made a few steps forward, “Then why are you armed before us, with half of your village tied up on the backs of beasts!”

The man was speechless for a moment, “I-I beg of you please forgive us!”

>Kill the men, leave the woman and children, that way they will not join the rebels

“Of course you can be forgiven.” Theoric said as he gave the man a quite devilish smile, “Do you remember back during the times of my Father, back when he gathered an Army the saved humanity from the Orcish Hordes?”

“I-I do.” The man said with a slight bit of hesitation, “I-I was a young man when he came by and gathered all those of able body.”

“Then I give you the same offer my Father gave to yours.” Theoric said while extending his hand, “Join my army, fight the good fight to confirm your loyalty to the new Era. Become a Hero and a successor instead of one who stayed in the past of their fathers.”

“And what if…” The man shook his head against the words he was about to say and instead shook the extended hand, “I… I pledge myself to you my liege.”

“Good, that is good.” Theoric said as the shook on it, “We leave in half an hour, though unlike my father only your men shall march. All the others can stay behind and tend to their lands.”

“I… I understand.” He responded.

So the army once again marched, this time making its way to the numerous men about the land who wanted to stay in the old Tribal ways. Many seemed keen on leaving, however Theoric simply gave them the chance to help swell his forces.

Just like his Father, Theoric was now leading an army of men from all walks of life. However the split was not Tribal against Feudal, those who accepted the new era and those who wallowed in the past. However many did not deny the wisdom that Theoric had, as he did not waste the lives of those men he came across.

Simply put if there was any left behind, Theoirc forced them into his forces. Several penal-esc regiments followed the main force, the idea of betrayal lessening more and more as everyone traveled together.

“Doesn’t it seem odd we have yet to be attacked.” Roderic said as they began the final stretch towards the Northern realms.

Theoric looked towards his brother with a little bit of concern, “Indeed, you are right.”

“We have someone coming in from the east!” Called out a few of the men as everyone knew what was happening.

They were marching in Regimental styles, one block behinding the other. They knew something like this could happen, but it was surprising all the same.

The initial attack was brutal, at least for his unarmored Tribal forces. Many of the traitors peaked out of the forests to throw stones at his men with slings. Some of course had a few bows, but primarily they all had low hitting weapons. Thanks to that, those who were wearing the least armor were hit first because it was much more efficient.

“Form ranks, everyone, form ranks!” Theoric called out to his troops, “They are almost upon us!”

And to that they were, as within a few moments the forests began to rain a tribal after tribal. Armed with little short spears, Theoric watched as his men struggled to make their formation of battle. However he was lucky with the fact that his attackers seemed to consider both his men and the Tribals he rounded up with equal ferocity.

He can only guess that they considered these people traitors, traitors to their old way of life.

Soon the time was up, and the several men were arranged and ready for the battle. However through what precious moments Theoric saw that could have crushed this force of ambushers they began to flee.

“Cowards!” Theoric yelled as he watched the traitors make their way back into the forest, cursing their names as they did. However their fleeing did not mean they were not woundless.

On their Southern flank, it seems his brother Roderic was able to tie up and Execute the dreadful bastards. Other than them, many of those who were caught in the melee with Theoric’s forces were caught in damning melee against his forces.

Simply put, those who were caught were slaughtered through being sheer outnumbered. That was a positive, but as he looked over the fields of dead men he knew there was a problem.

“Blasted fools.” Hev said as he looked over the carnage, “They caught us unaware.”

“It seems they have, and the forest is only going to get thicker the farther north we go.” Theoric summarized as he planned in his mind, “Roderic, I saw that you were able to kill a few.”

“That was only because my men got lucky.” The man admitted as he finally arrived after what seemed to be a brisk jog, “I think they are just going to keep hitting us the farther north we go.”

“Aye, they fear the weapons of the Dwarfs, good and bad of us.” Hev summarized as he shook his head.

“Maybe we should split our forces, that way we can force their pressure to weaken.” Roderic suggested as he looked towards his men.

“Just burn the whole damn place down.” Hev countered with a small swiftness in his voice, “That way they won’t be able to even hide from us.”

“Then we shall set it all alight.” Theoric ordered as he nodded to himself, “We will make sure there is nothing there for the traitors to hide behind.”

“I can work with that.” Roderic said as he looked around himself, “Though I wonder just how far they will be willing to travel?”

“Hopefully we can drive them into the Northern Sea.” Hev pointed out with a grin, “With their backs against it, we will have no problems killing them.”

And with that army got to work. While the next few days after that were just for set up, within a few more they were lighting everything on fire.

From the south, many looked towards the Northern Horizon at night to see a permanent glow of orangish red. The heat was so great from them that many never even bothered to light their own.

As for the army itself, the men all about Theoric were halfway enjoying the burning. The orders given to burn everything to the ground were received with mixed opinion, but a few zelous individuals took it upon themselves to turn the entire countryside into a burnt heap of ashes.

It seemed that the torches of fire and flame were intimidating to the Tribals, as they did not take a chance to attack Theoric’s army as they steadily marched their way towards the North.

However torching every tree they could see was taking its toll on the army. They moved at a crawl, causing the winter’s winds to brush past them as they marched. If it were not for the numerous fires, many would have been bellyaching about the cold.

It was within the commanding tent that Theoric was, looking over a crudely drawn map of the north as his brother came in, “Brother, I need to talk to you about something.”

“Roderic, I am all ears for what you have to say.” Theoric said back while turning to the fellow, “Want a drink of mead?”

“Of course.” The man cheered while taking a swig, “Brother, as we both know Winter is almost upon us. I wanted to check and see if we were simply going to continue our burning of the fields, or if we should start calling a retreat.”

“How are our foodstuffs?”

“They are full as of now, though that is only thanks to our pillaging of the land and slowness. From the Mountain Gap Bastion, once winter hits we usually just need to stave on our supplies. While I don’t know about up here, we could experience the same thing.”

“And if we sprinted towards the enemy?”

“We might be able to catch them, though the same goes for our fires.”

Fire, fire was something that Theoric was starting to enjoy a lot ever since winter started to settle in. They climbed to the highest point in the sky, becoming almost holy in their power to tear into the dreadful forests that held his enemies.

Alright, if he was honest with himself he was enjoying this campaign of burning a little too much now.

While Winter had settled in, it was manageable based on the tactics of Theoric. The men were able to enjoy a nice bit of warmth every night thanks to the blazes they lit during the day, and since they were quite literally consuming every piece of forest they were able to salvage enough food to stave hunger.

“How much farther, Hev?” Theoric asked as they walked past the numerous fires the destroyed the ancient forest.

“If I remember the old maps, we should almost be there.” Hev answered back as they finally left the valley, “It seems we just missed them.”

Indeed they did, as Theoric looked out to see waves of forgotten trash and clutter before them. While they had occasionally seen this before, none was as plentiful as this. It also did not take a genius to figure out that all of the cut trees in the area were used to construct something.

“They took their chances on the water, it seems.” Roderic said as he came about Theoric’s flank, “Those waters are treacherous though, I would not suggest taking any risk with them.”

“And the chances of them coming back?” Theoric asked as he looked out onto the nearly frozen sea.

“Since we have destroyed or eaten whatever food was left on this side of the Kingdom, I can say confidently they won’t be able to come.” Roderic summarized as he shook his head, “It is a pity, we won’t be able to take revenge upon those bastards for their betrayal.”

“Still, we have thrown them off of my realm and affirmed my authority.” Theoric announced as he looked at the waters, “Though I wish I got my hands upon my Grandfather’s neck.”

“You may not be able to get that taken care of in this life, but your Children shall exact that revenge for you.” Hev answered while giving a thumbs up, “That I can guarantee.”

“Then that leaves what to do now?” Roderic said as he shook his head, “The war has ended, we have driven the traitorous from our lands.”

“It will probably not be the end of the Traitors though.” Theoric declared as he looked out into the open sea, “I want a fortress built right here, one that will defend my realm from the encroachment of these devilish invaders.”

“I’ll talk to some folk about that.” Hev said as he kneeled and gripped the ground, “This one is going to be hard to build, since there’s no mountain for us Dwarfs to inhabit.”

“Well see what we can do.” Theoric said while patting the fellow on the back, “It can’t be built in a day, but you know as well as I do that we cannot let them come to shore.”

“I’ll see what we can do.” Hev said with a smirk.

“If thats going to be the case brother, I guess I will be off.” Roderic said as he extended his hand, “This was something else, getting a chance to leave the Bastion for a little while.”

“I could not do with without you brother, you have my thanks.”

“You’re welcome, and I wish you good luck on finding yourself a wife.” The man joked with a smirk, “Though that does remind me, what do you want to do about our… more primitive soldiers?”

“A good question, something would need to be figured out now.” Theoric admitted as the army around him started setting up a camp for them, “If we let them go back, is there a chance they could rebel again?”

“Possibly, the only real thing I can think of is if we force them to become civilized.” Roderic admitted with a shrug, “We all can use more people, those who hold them would just need to make sure they don’t revert.”

“Nothing is saying we can’t just let them go with some restrictions.” Hev suggested as he took a swig of mead, “Forcing your people too hard like that is gonna make them hate ya. Could just tax the hell out of them, that way you make more gold if they still resist.”

A few years quickly passed as Theoric busied himself with the assembling of his new round of projects.

Work had started on the newest Bastion, which was becoming known as the North Sea Bastion. Such a place was equipped with both a fortress and naval dockyard, giving Theoric’s descendants the chance to fight against the Barbarians who were pushed through the North Sea.

As for the rest of Theoric’s works, he stedied himself with the creation of numerous minor fortresses across the land. While these forts were not meant to hold back any truth to the five invasions, they were able to stand up against rebellion. Thus he gave the men what they were lacking beforehand, a purpose within the Kingdom of Man.

Quickly Theoric’s siblings took claims over many of them, turning the Chieftains into Vassals underneath their staunch power. Some even raised their once tribal men towards the Level of Count, so that they may administer the land with their blessing.

It was when he started hearing that that Theoric started to get an understanding of his actions. No longer was operating his realm simply a family affair, even if they intermarry, but it was instead he had raised an entire class of nobleman who would all want pieces of Theoric’s domain.

As he thought of this, Theoric felt a small hand knocking against his throne, “Mother?”

“Of course, I wanted to come in and check on you. It is quite late, and here you are sitting upon your throne.”

“I just needed some time to think, and being upon this throne makes me feel like I am more tied with my domain.”

“Well that is not the only thing that we need to tie.” Matria said as she tapped his head, “It is about time to get yourself a wife. I already have some girls from the ol’ Chieftains that I want you to look at.”

>Sure, let us go meet them! (Form budgenion alliances.)

“I… guess that is fine by me.” Theoric admitted as he turned to his mother, “When will I be meeting her?”

“In a weeks time.” She announced triumphantly.

And with that a week did go by, Theoric busy maintaining his realm as he continued to work. Fairly uneventful, Thoeric was more or less anxious to see who exactly his Mother set up for him. His Mother was by far a genius and shrewd woman, so she must have gotten someone at least modestly handsome and strong minded.

Then again, it was his Mother. He would not trust her with his Kingdom if he was forced to do so. No, that honor might be given to a brother or his or maybe even Hev. His Mother would just try to control everything directly.

Soon the day came, the host of this meeting being Theoric himself. That was more or less a no brainer, since they were the ones with a proper dinning table and room to meet in.

“Welcome, Fatan!” Theoric’s mother cheered as their guests finally arrived with a small bit of warriness upon their faces, “I hope the weather on the way over was not too bad.”

“I-It was not.” The man shook his head while giving a slight bow to Theoric, “High King, it is an honor to meet you at long last. You have by far the most exquisite place I have ever seen in my life.”

“Thank you, Baron Fatan.” Theoric annoucned as he grew a large smile, “And where is your daughter?”

“Vyde, come on forward.” The man said towards his behind.

Slowly coming out was a charming girl, looking to be a few years younger than Theoric. She looked to him with a small hint of fear in her eyes, and Theoric could probably guess why.

These days, he was known as Theoric the Arsonist.

“Come now, why don’t we make our way towards the dinning room. We have much to eat and merriment to be had.”

>Be kind to them, if she is this cute who knows about the future

“Indeed, we have both brew prepared along with some meats.” Theoric declared as they walked into the room. Once they were within the room, Theoric turned on his heel and gave the girl before him a courteous bow, “It is a pleasure meeting you, Vyde, I hope this goes well for both of us.”

“Th-thank you.” She grew a small blush before rushing over to a seat next to her father.

With that everyone took their seats, each party taking their side of the table. It was quickly obvious that the ex-Chieftain was like a fish out of water, however his daughter’s attitude changed from fear to something more… tame.

At least, that is what Theoric got from the amount of times she looked in his direction and blushed.

“Now then, we should discuss if the terms are satisfactory.” Theoric’s mother said as she took out a piece of paper, “Written here, as she is your only child, we will inherit your lands. In return, of course, we will be giving you some gold along with providing protection for your lands.”

“Yes, that is what we discussed before.” He admitted before giving a solemn nod, “She is also going to be the first wife, and whose children will be first in line along with their children gaining my current lands.”

“Indeed, that is what we agreed upon.” She answered while taking a moment to look towards the girl, “You do not need to be so afraid, my boy is the best man you could ever get your hands on.”

“Y-yeah.” She mumbled for a moment, “I am sure he is.”

“And what about you, Theoric.” She said while turning to the High King, “These folk had gained the most amount of land thanks to your recent changes, and I am sure we can protect them with your power.”

Theoric glanced at his mother, knowing full well she planned this. Maybe she slipped something underneath his nose, but she was planning this from the moment he was distributing the unoccupied land to the Chieftains and his siblings.

“Indeed mother, things will be looking well enough.” Theoric admitted as he looked over the papr, “And it looks like everything is here, do you want us to sign it?”

“Why of course, you are your own man so you will sign it for yourself.” The woman said as she watched Theoric sketch out his line, “Now we have you sign this as well as your daughter.”

Matria handed the paper over, the man looking skeptical for a moment. Theoric was no fool about this all, of course, that this man really did not know how to read or write. His mother could have taken this chance to get him to sign things he did not initially agree to, however she did not.

Soon the papers were signed, not with a name but with a symbol. But that was enough for them, and his Mother picked up the paper with a smirk, “We shall host quite the event, should we not?”

“Of course!” Theoric said as he gave a motion to his bride, “We shall have one for the history books.”

Thus time quickly went by, the say of the event upon them. The ceremony was hosted in a more Dwarvish fashion than human, with the ceremony taking place at the heart of the fortress. While it might have been a little off putting for the Tribals, most of Theoric’s family and fellows felt it was a fitting event.

“And thus I claim the two of you bound by the will of the Five, your families forever bound through stone and blood!” The dwarf priest announced before backing away, “Now you may, kiss.”

Thus the two looked at one another for a moment, the girl obviously awe struck by everything that was happening around her. Theoric was the one who had to act, giving her a kiss that she would never forget for a lifetime.

With the main festivities done it was time for the reception. And with it, Theoric would have a chance to meet more of those who he called vassals across the realm.

While many of the other people were folks that Theoric wanted to talk to, he was really curious about how his newest relatives would be. Of course he spent some time talking to everyone else, as it was tradition to allow everyone to come up and give the newly married couple some advice and blessings.

They of course stood back, waiting their turn after the quick appearence of the Deep King and Theoric’s siblings. The Deep King simply wanted to wish Theoric a good life, aching his belly about missing his chance to not fight with his father against the Dragon. The main thing Theoric got from it was an invitation to come to his city for a visit whenever he is able too.

It might be something for Theoric to do, since the dwarf was his Father’s greatest support when he was alive. Even now Theoric knew the sudden shipments of armaments during the rebellion was because of that Dwarf’s awareness.

A few of Theoric’s siblings came by as well, mainly to tease him about the marriage. By far they were probably in the best place of everyone in the Kingdom, many diligently working to make things better for their region just as Alaric would have wanted of them.

It was after these folk that finally Theoric’s newest relatives, all of them by law. They had been spending most of their time behind everyone, probably out of caution as they did not know how this worked.

However the time finally came, the small group of them making their way forward, “My liege, I hope you all are having a grand wedding.”

“We are, thank you!” Theoric announced as he made a gesture towards the gifts, “I must thank you for everyone you have given us, I am sure the items you have given will have great use for us.”

“You’re welcome, High King.” The man hesitantly said while giving a sorta solemn bow, “My name is Satsa of the Moc.”

Theoric could not help but notice, “Do you no longer call yourself a clan?”

“Times are changing, my Lord.” The man admitted with a small chuckle, “Though, this might be the only chance I have that I wish to ask you something.”

It was a little ballsy to bring up something during a man’s wedding, “Fire away, Satsa. I cannot guarantee that it can happen now.”

“Thank you, my lord.” He said with a small sigh, “You see, there has been some debate between myself and my direct lord. We have agreed to write a document between us, but he wishes for it to be written in Dwarvish while I wish to use the language of our people. Personally I know it, and I can get the Shamans to confirm the words to my Lord. I just want your support before I bring it up with them.”

>The Language of the Dwarfs is better for all of us, Satsa. I will simply suggest you learn it, I am sure my brother could wait a few years for you to get a more iron clad understanding.

“While I do hope at some point that you all will learn this language, I will simply suggest that documents written between Lord and Vassal are in both languages.”

“I… guess that will be good enough.” He answered back before thinking for a moment, “And, uh, what if either text does not agree with each other. Which takes precedence?”

“It should not come to that, Stasa, because you can always go get a Dwarf to confirm the writing and the same goes for your Lord. However I expect you, maybe not you, but your Children shall learn the Dwarves Language as all of my Children will learn their writing first.” Theoric ended that with a firmness in his voice.

“I… understand, High King. I will be sure to get a tutor for my children.” The man said before walking away.

“Damn it, today was my wedding and I am still working.” Theoric joked as he turned towards Vyde, “I think its time we retire, eh?”

The girl’s face was red, “Y-yes my liege.”

There was a little bit of distance between them, that much Theoric knew, however that had no bearing on them having children or the transfer of their lands.

And indeed it did not, as from then on they had quite a few good nights together.

It became about a year after that Theoric looked about himself, at the things he had.

For starters, his wife was indeed very fertile and was currently baring their first child. That was about five months ago, which was pretty good in his opinion. As for other things, he went through a mental list of things.

Firstly, Theoric was able to place the finishing touches on his new fortress. It had been christened ‘The North Sea Bastion’, which had a pretty ring to its name. There was a few ships already held there, and while they are not enough to send an army north it would be enough to Theoric to get some revenge.

Rumor has it his two assaulters, Izdajice and Kretenu were still alive and well. By far their betrayal was a burning mark, a grudge that he knew he needed to settle. He had Hev, and surely others would join him to right this wrong.

Besides that, he had not heard much from his brother Anathantric in the West. Likely that is because of the mountains as well as the man not really the talkative type.

Lastly, he wondered if he knew that while he should get himself other wives. While he had been… on a dry spell since his wife got Pregnant he had grown a taste for pleasure. However there was the nagging thought, that unlike his Father Theoric did not have plenty of lands to give to his children. He was no fool, for if his lands were split in thirds he would not have done so well with the Tribals as he did.

While at first it was not the most pressing thing, Theoric knew that it has been a while since he had heard from his brother. Such a thing of course was not uncommon, but in just over 7 years along with a rebellion Theoric was starting to get worried he was overran.

So a trip was scheduled and decided, Theoric soon making his way to the Western half of his Kingdom.

Crossing over the Dragon Scale Mountains was no issue, if just for the men’s animals getting a little more anxious as they went through. Such of course was the nature of Dragons, terrifying all the lesser races until they were satisfied with pride.

Soon they crossed it, going towards what was a pretty decent sized keep built next to a river. Theoric himself did not know the name of it, but he trusted his brother had already made a nice one for the nearly brand new keep.

Soon, Theoric arrived into the meeting hall of his brother, “Anathantric! I have not heard from you for so long!”

Sitting near the other end, upon a throne, was his brother, “Theoric?”

“Have you not seen me in so long that you forgot my face.” Theoric joked as he made his way closer, “I even invited you to a wedding that you never came for.”

“Oh, sorry about that.” The man scratched his cheek with what looked like a scar upon it, “When I finally got word of it, the event had already passed. Its always hard to get words over Dragon Scale Mountain. Though you have received my homage correct?”

“Just as we had agreed upon.” Theoric confirmed, “Though the first few were a bit late.”

“Such is the nature of things.” Anathantric claimed as a lul started to settle in.

“So brother,” Theoric began as he thought to himself on what to ask, “Has there anything thats troubled you lately. I believe that scar is quite new.”

“Yeah, I had a little trouble with the Chieftains.” He admitted while scratching his lip, “One of them got so far as to strike my face. I count my blessings, this was all I was left with.”

“I would too.” Theoric admitted as he lounged for a moment, “Anything else you have seens troubles with?”

“A few oddities here and there.” He admitted while taking out a small paper and placing a drawing between them, “Have you ever seen this creature before?”

“No… is that some kind of Fish-Man?”

“I believe that is as close to an identity as we found for them.” The man admitted while shaking his head, “They came from the Western Sea, where you cannot see land in all directions. They’ve been annoying, though my people have been pretty scared of them.”

“Looking at it a little more, it reminds me of the monsters Mistress Hilda talked about. How they were insane folk who thought they could cross the vast sea.” Theoric guessed as he looked at them closely, “Fish Folk were their name.”

“Do you think they are that? I did force the Chieftains out into the Western Sea, think they are coming back to haunt us?”

“I…” Theoric looked at the picture, trying to piece together ideas.

“This is all quite worrying, justas you said.” Theoric admitted as he strained his muscles for a moment, “Yeah, I will go talk to Estus about this right now.”

“He would know something.” Anathantric agreed, “For the time between then and now, do you want a few drinks?”

“Of course.” Theoric cheered.

After a modest amount of merriment Theoric made his way back to the Fortress of Man. The trip back was just as before, but Theoric could not help but feel a little bit of anger at the presence within the mountains. That Dragon, or maybe even Dragons, were still lurking within those rocks. And here he was powerless to kill them.

Soon Theoric arrived back home, and quickly did he scour the Keep for the man he was searching for. However he did not need to look hard, for the old Shaman was standing next to his Throne. Next to him, was Theoric’s sister Leric.

“So I take it you knew I was looking for you?” Theoric asked as he finally made it to his throne, “I thought it would be hard to find you, considering I never see you around.”

“It is simpler if I came straight to you about these matters.” He said while while nodding himself, “It would be too troublesome to deal with your guards you would eventually had sent.”

Theoric looked towards his Sister, who simply shook her head. Judging by her, Theoric could guess that it had something more to do with the man getting bored.

At least that's as much as he can tell from his Sister’s expression.

“Then are you already aware of these… Fish People?”

“I am only as aware of them as the Civilized races are.” The man admitted while putting his weight upon a large staff, “I do however know they are not man, but instead a monster that lurks within the ocean’s deepest regions.”

“So why are they crawling up to the surface to terrorize my people?” Theoric said with a hint of frustration.

“I…” The man thought to himself for a few more moments, “I suspect it might be because of their master’s wish to have human flesh, however I fear it is simply a symptom of a greater problem.”

“All ears here.” Theoric took the moment to lower himself into his throne and get comfy.

“Dark Gods are stalking us, Theoric.” The Shaman said as he shook his head, “The same ones who brought about the rise of the first Demon Lord who destroyed the Dwarfs now turn their ire to us. Before we were barbarians, folk who could were worth nothing. However now that we have settled they’ve decided we shall become part of their game.”

“So what are the rules?”

“Occurrences like these will keep happening, monsters of the previous Demon Lord’s army coming to fight us. Once the Dark Gods feel it, they shall craft new monsters.” The Shaman claimed to be the truth of the world, “Their arrival will accompany a Demon Lord to carve their scurge into the earth.”
>>

“Wouldn’t the Dwarfs have mentioned if the Fish People came from the last Demon Lord?” Theoric asked as he talked his thoughts out loud, “They did mention that the first undead came with him.”

“I cannot say, however in many years we might be facing a new Demon Lord. I cannot tell you when, but I know his arrival shall be inevitable.”

“Then I should get working.” Theoric summarized with a wave of his hand, “You can return to your workshop, estus. Stay well.”

“I will.” He said before descending down the staircase.

“I caught only about half of that.” Hev called out as he came from behind Theoric’s Throne, “But this talk about Demon Lords has got my beard itching.”

“I would agree, its a man telling me to fear the death centuries later when I am already dead.” Theoric summarized as he shook his head, “Though it is something that I must take care of, for it might be my desidendents that suffer.”

“Forward thinking is good thinking, though I have a feeling you are about to say something really fuckin’ dumb.”

Theoric sighed for a moment while shaking his head, “I… think we should finally open communication with the Elves.”

“Yup, you said it. You just fuckin’ said it.” Hev lamented while furiously gripping his head, “You do realize those fuckers only care about themselves. Even if we are set alight and the Demon Lord is marching down they will not come. Hell, even that Elvish Whore of your father’s disappeared after your father died.”

“Is that so… she never really talked that much.”

“Of course she didn’t, she’s an elf.” He summarized while shaking his head, “However if what your Priest Guy said is true, I suggest going over to get a proper talk with Stog.”

>We will open communications with the Elves, even if the Dwarfs don’t like it.

“Then it should be wise to start making our way towards Deep King Stog.” Theoric confirmed as he rose from his throne.

“Aye, that would be the best. Surely we can come up with something smarter than talking to the elves.” Hev said before falling in line with Theoric, “Off we go then.”

Just like other times in Theoric’s life, he traveled the underway towards his Dwarven counterpart. The place was much nicer than other times he had traveled here, with even a few Dwarven Farms dotting the pathway. Such was the security of the place, being a clear way of transit between old Dwarven Hold.

Just as the time before, Theoric entered the Fortress of the Dwarfs. At least, that is what most men called the place as it was the counterpart to the Keep of Man. Its actual name was Mtight, last Keep of the Dwarfs. At least that's what the people there like to call it, in reality they have slowly been making contact with several other Dwarven settlements all across the land.

In a matter of time, Theoric finally arrived at the throne room of the Deep King. Stog was sitting there, for only a minute, until he quickly jumped off the throne and made his way over to Theoric, “Finally you come over to my side of the Underway, little one. If it was your father he would have been here almost every night!”

“If I was to do that I would be dead by the third day.” Theoric said before giving the Dwarven King a welcoming gesture by raising his arm, “I barely remember my wedding night because of you.”

“Its what you get for having such a weak liver.” The Dwarf laughed as he bumped his arm into Theoric’s, “Now, since I assume you are not here just to drink, what brings you to my court?”

The next few minutes Theoric explained the trouble on the western seaboard. The dwarvish king looked confused for a moment, before his brow raised as Theoric explained what Estus said.
>>
“Your Shaman thinks another Demon Lord could be upon us?”

“Maybe, and like I said it does not explain the creatures at sea.” Theoric pointed out before shaking his head, “However, if he is true, these evil beings have always schemed this way.”

“At this point, we cannot suffer another Demon Lord.” Stog admitted as he looked around his room, “However, that was before we met you humans. Together I think we could do many things.”

“So, I know you will not like this.” Theoric began as he took a draw of breath, “What about talking to the Elves to assist us.”

The Dwarvish King gave Theoric a stink eye, soon shaking his head as if in shame, “You’re right I would not like it. They are traitors to us Dwarfs. However I have told your Father the same thing. Your race is too young and far away when their betrayal happened.”

“That was after the first Demon Lord, right?”

“Aye, they did some magic trickery and brought about a Champion who would fight for them. We Dwarfs were the ones who took the brunt, challenging the Lord at the Mountainous Gap.” He gave a small chuckle as he looked Theoric over, “We got lucky with your father, as the Warboss he killed might have been the second Demon Lord.”

“So what do you think I should do?” Theoric asked as he wondered the Dwarf’s opinion more.

“I don’t think you should even bother.” He announced before shaking his head, “However you may do what you want, as just like your Father we are allies and friends. All I suggest is that you do not rely upon them for any military support. You can get some support, but don’t rely upon them.”

>Make a trip to the Elves lands then. Time to meet them.
>Send a delegation over there instead, for Theoric does not really care.

It took a few months to prepare for the exhibition, one where Theoric was going to lead the charge towards the Elven Realm. Most people who were joining up in this travel was of course curious about the Elves, however Theoric had to say goodbye for a time as he was leaving without his advisor Hev joining.

Something about not wanting to solly his tongue with their shitty alcohol.

Theoric wondered if this hatred was really justified, but damn was it bad. Then again if the tales were true then that would mean the Elves had just abandoned them to the winds of chaos. That would surely be one hell of a grudge to keep.

Soon they were off, Theoric walked besides his men as they used a beast of burden to drag their wares. To Theoric’s left this time was of course not his advisor, well, atleast thats what he thought was not going to be there.

“You coming after all?” Theoric asked Hev as they made their way down the path.

“I am here to make sure nothing stupid happens. You are my charge after all, and I don’t want to lose ya because I could not deal with some elves for a week.” Hev admitted as he panted a little from his jog, “I’m getting too much exercise these days.”

“You’re probably the most travel Dwarf of your generation.” Theoric joked while patting him on the back, “Now then, I guess we gotta figure out where to go.”

“You did your research about these bastards, right?” Hev growled.

“Of course, I know for a fact that they have a few cities directly towards our south and a modest Kingdom to the East.” Theoric admitted as they made their down, “After that, I can really guess that we follow where our feet take us.”

“You don’t have better choices?”

“Nope.”

The small envoy began to travel towards the South, making their way through a series of rough mountains and such. However that did not matter much for them. Travelin in such a small group they were able to eclipse the mountains and arrive their way towards the much more bearable but hilly lands.

They traveled, coming across what looked to have been abandoned farmsteads all about the place. The Envoy was of course curious about them, many judging them to be pretty fucking old considering the structures fell apart the moment they touched them.

It just struck them as odd, but they were on a mission here and they needed to finsh it!

Within a matter of about a week of travel, the first sign of civilization was present, “Is that a… really big tree?”

“Aye.” Hev confirmed as they made their way towards the structure, “The Elves got pretty good at building upwards, you can say. Most of the time they fuck with trees to make it happen.”

“Well, lets get a little closer than.” Theoric said as they slowly made their way towards what was quickly becoming a forest.

The first thing Theoric noted about the place was that there was not a wall to be found. They could see the remnants of it, but for the most part they were either missing or obviously fallen into disrepair.

Soon they made their way into the town proper which gave Theoric a chance at seeing the structures closely. They were not all forest, no, actually a vast majorty of the structures looked to have been carved from pure white stone. However here and there the trees stood tall, many bearing some kind of fruit upon their branches.

Threoric got close to them with Inquisitive eyes, “Are these… edible?”

“You gettin’ the same bad feeling from them?” Hev said as he made sure his hammer was ready to move.

“I guess I am.” Theoric said as he looked the fruit over, “Is this something to do with Elven Magics? To make food plentiful?”

“Considering what they have done to trees beforehand, I would say yes.” Hev answered back as the envoy looked around, “Looks like somebody should be home, but I don’t see any of the damned elves.”

“Is anyone there!” Theoric shouted out as he took a few steps forward, “I am Theoric, son of Alaric and High King of Humanity! If anyone is there, come out now!”

They waited for a moment, as if there would have been a response. One of Theoric’s men took a few steps forward with caution, “Sir, we should start checking the houses. I do not hear anyone.”

“...” The High King took a moment to collect himself, “Go door to door and see if anyone responds. I don’t want to be the fool who started an incident because they were just not hearing us.”

“Understood, sir.” The man said before the Envoy began to fan out.

They began to check every building about the place, making sure not to walk into them. The stone buildings always carried their voices through its structures, which only made them more worried.

It was like no one was home.

This made Theoric think. Maybe they were victims of a raid, but in that case there should have been battle damage. Right now the place was looking close to spotless. It did not help the sanity of the men and Theoric for that manner.

However that was when they heard a call.

“I HEAR SOME MOANING OVER HERE!” Called out one of the Envoy’s men as he stood outside a large structure.

Quickly everyone flocked over there, however just as fast as they came they took a few steps back from it. It was Hev who could pin the smell, “It smells like death in there!”

“It might just be death.” Theoric answered as he placed a hand upon his sword, “Keri, you sure you heard someone in there?”

“Yes I did! I swear I did!” The man tried to reassure them as he looked in, “D-do we go in?”

>Yes, we head in and find who is alive!

“In a way.” Theoric thought up as he prepared some gear, “Everyone, go around this damn thing and see if we can tear down a wall! I don’t want to be welcomed by whatever is in there.”

“G-got it!” His men responded before souring the outside of the structure.

The High King took his time to look around the structure, noting that it was covered completely with that nearly pale white rock. It was something of a wonder, however as he made his way about it the smell was quickly becoming apparent. Add with it the occasional moan well…

Theoric’s senses were on edge.

“Damn elves thinking they can do better stone works than us Dwarf.” Hev annoucned as he tapped a part of the wall, “You wanted me to take this damn thing down right?”

“Either that or find us a way to look in from safety.” Theoric announced as he got a good position to look over Hev.

“Well I’mma take my idea and tear down this wall!” He announced while wielding his hammer, “Now then, looks like this here is the fault line I was looking for.”

Theoric watched as Hev took his hammer and slammed it into the structure. With just that simple hit of the hammer, the entire thing gave one hell of a shake. Theoric watched in amazement as the Dwarf quite literally began to tear into the wall causing it to vibrate with God’s know how much force.

And within a few more moments, it came crashing down!

“By the Gods!”

“Fucking-!”

“MY NOSE!”

“WHAT IS THAT!”

Everyone cried out. The smell barely leaving into the greater world. Such was only a moment’s relief for all those present, as Theoric opened his eyes to see inside.

It looked to be a room with a small pond of water in the middle of it. However it was not filled with fresh water, but instead the pool was filled to the brim with blood. Such blood was disgusting, as it looked to have several fluffy funguses hanging out on top of it.

Of course that was ignoring the pile of bodies within it. If Theoric had to say anything, it kind looked like they were having a fucking Orgy.

Were they dead?

Speechless the men were, wonderment still upon their minds on what exactly is this. None seemed to desire to take a few steps forward, in fear of losing themselves to the mass. However one of them knew what he needed to do.

“Men, what is before us is some kind of foul mass of blood and bodies.” Theoric took out a torch from his pocket and started striking at is, “Such an unholy creation does not belong in this world.”

The torch was soon lit a fire, Theoric cradling it within his hands for a moment. However that moment quickly passed as he brought it out, “Such things like this must be burnt.”

With that said the High King tossed the torch into the corrupted bathhouse. Within a moment’s notice the place was lit aflame with a raging explosion. It could only be described as flames hitting oil. It was a glorious inferno that all present would not forget.

“Come on men!” Theoric called out as he wielded another torch, “We need to throw more in to make sure this mess does not ever see the light of day!”

Spurred to action the men of the High King quickly got to work collecting as many torches and such as they could. The torches were thrown about with reckless abandon. Some might have even hit the other housing, however the flames barely expanded from their intentional target thanks to the Elven use of marble.

After what must have been fifteen minutes of burning, the mass started to give a harrowing scream. It was one that Theoric could only compare to tale given by his father; one there the First High King was forced to slay what he called a Siren.

However the creature within the mass did not last very long. Maybe it was because Theoric killed it while it was gestating, but in the end the mass was burnt to a crisp before it could have been born.

“By the Five, I never thought I would hear that.” Hev admitted as he turned towards Theoric, “Think we should clear everything else out?”

Theoric gave a nod to his Advisor and took a few steps above everyone, “We are purging this place to the ground! Any who don’t feel like helping in the burning I need you to travel back to the Fortress of Man with a message. Who is up for taking the message?”

Theoric looked around, none of his men taking a step forward as if he was trying to give them a test.

“I am not joking here, I need some of you to take the alert Estus the Shaman of these happenings! Do you understand?”

A couple of the men finally took the hint and moved forward. Theoric had to quickly whip up the message for them to carry. He just barely had any luck with carrying a piece of paper to hand them. But soon they were out with a speed that basically said they were not going to bother looking back.

“Men.” Theoric turned to the remaining individuals who stuck around with him, “I have hereby declared this entire place fucked. We are burning it to the ground.”

There was a resounding call out from the men, and just as quickly they all began to do the deeds.

Torches were lit and thrown into every house and tree. It did not matter if it was a store, home, or brothel; they were all torched. From what Theoric witnessed, about a quarter of the buildings seemed to catch fire with the same ferocity as the original bath house. That of course meant things were pretty fucking bad as a base.

As the sky was now lit with an orange flame, Theoric's envoy turned fire brigade walked upon the largest complexe there was in the city. It was obvious this building was meant to be a manor or fortress of sort and the stank was smelled from blocks away.

“I do not know if burning this place from the outside is going to work.” Hev admitted as he looked the structure over a few times, “Not unless their blood covers every single wall.”

“Think there is a way to get in there unconventionally?” Theoric asked as he approached his fellow, “Maybe a hatch to their underground or something like that?”

“Hmm, there probably is.” Hev answered as he started going around the building, “Come along you all, I don’t want you all left behind and caught by some monster.”

Theoric waved to his men to have them all follow. There was of course no arguments against this, and everyone was soon following their way through the alleys brushing against the place. There was a growing sense of unease among them just like before which could not really be helped here.

Theoric could guess they were about to find something really bad soon.

“Ah, here we are.” Hev announced as they found what looked to be an oddly built thing, “This here is some sort of drain. Looks like the damn thing got clogged.”

“These Elves really like their pools, don’t they.” Theoric joked as he handed the Dwarf a torch.

“Something about taking a bath is a sign of prosperity.” He answered before looking down the chamber, “Alright, stand back. I’ll light this bastard up.”

The Dwarf tossed the torch down the tunnel. Within a moment the entire chamber was lit aflame! Hev barely was able to dodge the incoming torrent of fire that quickly spilled out into the open air. While it approached a small stream, the flaming blood was gone before it ever reached a nearby stream.

“Alright, that was pretty good. Now I guess we-!”

The ground under everyone’s feet began to quake with a fury. Theoric could only describe it as the wrath of the gods made manifest. However it was not the gods who caused it as the building they were near began to buldge.

“Back away! I think we made something really angry!” Hev called out to everyone who was able to flee.

Theoric watched as the marble structure was shattered into pieces with flames dancing across the horizon. Before them was a flaming monster that stood at least five men tall. It growled and quaked the world around it as it finally escaped from whatever womb it was trapped within.

It gave a cry unlike any other Theoric had ever heard. Its glowing eyes soon moved towards them. It knew they had done this to it, and it was fucking pist.

“By the will of my father!” Theoric quickly reached back and began to wield the Sword of Fortage within his hands, “This damn abomination shall not live!”

The mass of corpses screamed as it began to wiggle and climb out of its chambers. The Corpses dropped off the body as the flames continued to burn it to a crisp. Such a horrifying sight was something that many men would run away from.

Even Theoric wanted to run.

However the man stood his ground as the beast began its charge towards him. His weapon out, he prepared for what was going to be a really bad fucking day.

“GAAAAH!”

And with a roar the monsterosity began its charge towards Theoric, its feet all hitting the ground in some messed up form of a quadrupedal beast. It was tripping and slipping with every step it took but through it all it still kept moving foward.

And in the next moment, Theoric sidestepped the creature as he finally received the attack.

In that moment all wind was knocked out of him, sending him off his feet and into the air! Quickly he moved with a slight finesse of a man who knew his way around a blade. Thanks to that, he just barely got to his feet to look up at the monster and prepare a few attacks.

One two! A pair of attacks right in what could only be described as the monster’s midsection. However such an attack that Theoric did did not wreck near the same amount of damage Theoric had done before. What would have been a hot knife was a dulled slice of magic. Still the attack his and striked into the very fabric of this monster.

The Creature made another attempt upon Theoric’s life, however just like those before Theoric was able to sidestep them and wreck two more attacks into the thing.

It was at this moment that Theoric needed to disengage from it, as not only the thing made another attempt upon his life but several corpses quickly fell upon the place he was previously standing. He was locked into combat with it, and damn was it terrifying.

“Fucking hell!” Theoric shouted as he receives another blow from the massive mass of flesh, “Just die already!”

He struck at its stomach once again, the blade barely making a dent through its necrotic flesh. Such a blow was nothing short of splinter to the thing as it whipped its body around and gave Theoric a fine smack into the nearest wall.

There was several loud cracks going through Theoric’s body as he steadied himself back up. The Monster, by all means, was fucking his shit big time. He probably lost a few bones from that impact alone. Simply put he was not winning this.

It was at this moment he looked over towards his men, all scared and terrified at the sight before them. Seeing such a sight was understandable but damning to not only him but the rest of humanity. By the Gods what would happen if this monster was able to not only survive but escape towards his Kingdom!

“Men!” Theoric picked himself off his worn out state and raised his sword into the air, “This damned monster before us is an abomination in the eyes of the Gods and Nature! If it gets free it shall wreck our homes and consume our fellow man!”

The monster began to move itself as it looked towards Theoric with dangerous intent. In that moment he noticed that whatever beastial urges it had were gone and replaced. It was a cold calculating sentiance now that looked towards him.

“Bring forth the arrows and torches, we shall burn this monster to purify the world of its presence! ATTACK!”

For the first time in his life Theoric felt an energy swell up inside of him that he never felt before. Maybe it was the faith of the men within him or maybe it was Fortage finally recognizing its wielder. Neither matters, for he was going to stand in this fucker’s way!

“EAT MORTAL! MORTAL KING!” The monster screamed as it finally started back on its attack towards Theoric.

This time when the creature reached him Theoric received the attack with a righteous fury. His heart now settled upon stubbornness has gifted him strength of blood and gold. He still felt the attack go through his body, but this time he did not lose his footing and instead enacted two strikes against the monster’s body. While they never dug as deep as his Father’s before him, Theoric had done much more than he ever had before.

And upon hearing his Authority of Kingship, his men quickly made their way about the place fathering whatever weapons they could hold. Many were able to use the torches they carried earlier, running into combat and bashing the creature with a fire lit stick! Others took out bows and arrows, sending several strikes against cumbling flesh.

Each of these, while not striking the creature’s make-up directly, exposed it to more and more fire. The fleshy bodies that were become charred were thrown off the thing and sent reeling into the ground. These strikes exposed more and more flesh to the purifying flames.

With a fury of man now within them, the men of Theoric’s Envoys were spurred to the greatest amount of action. Torches being shattered upon flesh and quivers starting to run empty was turning the tide of battle against this monster.

Theoric himself was now in the thick of things, his blade and clothing soaked in the blood of the monster. Well Theoric could assume it is also the blood of Elves.

It does not matter now, though, as the creature was starting to fall down.

It was thanks to his men that Theoric was becoming close to victory. Close he was that he was starting to check his surroundings for anything else that might endanger his men.

He did see something in his periphery. And there, just for the briefest of moments, he caught the sight of gleaming white metal.

With that knowledge of someone approaching their battle Theoric worked his body twice as hard as it was before. The men all about him struck the legs with their fury, sending the colossal creature towards the ground. Such a fall caused the entire land underneath their feet to shake for a moment. However it was far from dead.

In its throes it attempted to slam its body into Theoric in an attempt to murder him. However the High King was able enough to bring his sword against the fucker’s face and carve a nice slice through its many skulls. This was followed with a similar strike, this one creating a cross on the creature’s head.

It was then that Hev charged forth, with his hammer raised high the Dwarf slammed the wound with all his might. This, along with all the cuts that it had experienced, expelled a large amount of flaming blood into the air. Such a rain of blood was turned into a shower as it rained upon the now blood soaked battle field.

However that was not the end of it, for something that horrible could never die. It reached forwards to try and strike at Hev, however Theoric was there first to give it a nice slicing through the head through the body into the tail.

That, that there, was the moment it ‘died’. Not from its injuries, but by being turned into too many pieces and left in a blaze of fire.

Theoric only had a moment’s breath as he gave a wave to the men around him to join him. Within moments what was once an street full of soldiers was emptied. However, even as their breaths were heavy, Theoric looked out to see what was a series of men going around the place in a worried panic.

IT did not take a genius to realize these, were in fact, elven guards.

“Elvish guards?” Theoric said to himself as he looked over towards them, “Well here was the chance I was waiting for.”

“You sure about doing that, Theoric.” Hev asked as he gave the look of tiredness.

“Any better ideas?”

“Not talking to the elves.”

“Of course you would say that.” Theoric shook his head as he got up, “Guess its time to introduce one’s self.”

“Dumbass.” Hev gumbled as he prepared his weapon.

Theoric soon made his way around the building and towards the several Elvish men. Trying his best to give a smile on his face, Theoric waved to them, “Hail, Elvish Men. I am Theoric, High King of Humanity. Pleasure to meet you all.”

In the next moment all the guards turned about and faced Theoric with widening eyes. Weapons trained one of the men from the rear came up, “Are you responsible for this disaster?!”

“No, that would be whatever corrupted your people. I simple killed the creature they turned into.” Theoric admitted as he realized the fellow’s mood was souring.

“A lesser species does not know the first thing about corruption.” The Elf quickly fired off we he pointed his spear, “Men, capture this fool! If he is man, he must be the one who torched this dear city!”

“Elf, you say we burned your city!?” Theoric called out as he championed himself, “What reason you say we did it.”

“Because you are a lesser race who deserves the cracking of the whip.” The Elf responded back as he waved his hand, “Get him.”

“W-what are you-!” Before Theoric could react he was smacked with several weapons in the head, “FUCKING HELL! You think we raided your people!”

“No, what I think you attacked because you were jealous of their majesty.” The Elf opened his helm and flicked his hair off to the side, “Keep hitting it men, no matter how tough it is it will succumb to a concussion. And don’t forget about the others.”

In a swift motion several of the guards made their way forward and started the round up of men. Most of them were just bashing the heads of Theoric’s troops, however he watched as some seemed to fire off with glowing hands.

As for the High King himself, he quickly took out a blade and tried to defend himself. Quickly none of their spears were long enough to reach him, and Theoric got a little distance between them.

“You dishonorable bastard! I demand we have a-!” Before the High King could finish a flash of blue light escaped the Captain’s hands and smacked into him. Within the next few moments, he felt himself begin to feel sleepy. His lethargy was so great that could not even say a word.

“Interesting. Normally someone as injured as you would fall asleep much more easily.” The Captain said as he took out a long sword, “You damn jealous barbarians coming down here to wreck havoc on our people.”

Within the next moment Theoric felt the blade enter his stomach. In the next moment, he felt something come over him and send him into a deep sleep.

There was one thing Theoric noticed with unusual clarity.

Hev was nowhere to be seen, as if the fucker saw this coming.

Lucky.

The first thing Theoric felt was the rumbling of the wheels against the soft grass. It was only semi-pleasant as he tried hard to break through his roped bindings. Looking to his side he saw one of his men, a blond fellow who looked rather roughed up as well.

“Oh, you’re finally awake!” The man called out as he shook his head, “Sorry sir, we all got caught up in that ambush.”

They continued their travel through the place until Theoric saw a pair of marble white walls. Unlike the place before this one did not have the feeling of death and corruption but life nad happiness.

“So we end up in their capital.” Theoric murmured as he tugged the rope on his wrists, “Hard to believe I was going to enter it in bindings.”

“It does not matter, monkey.” The driver said as he looked over his shoulder towards Theoric, “It is a great honor to be welcomed into the Grand City of Mar’le, let it be in chains or on foot.”

“That does not make me feel any better. You know your people have committed an act of war against Man and Dwarf by kidnapping me.”

“You think you have diplomatic immunity? You are more like monkeys to me, and what is this about Dwarfs? Those folk have never left their keeps in ages.”

“Maybe its because you forgot to help them against the Curse of the Demon Lord.”

“Maybe you should shut up about matters you do not know, monkey.” the driver shot back as he gave another whip to his beast, “Finally I can get your ass off this damned wagon and go home.”

As he said that they crossed into another place. Theoric could recognize a prison when he sees one. It helped of course that all his men were lined up in front of a rather pitured Warden. Like slaves they were let off the wagons and walked into a line just like all the others.

“Welcome, Barbarians, to your new home.” The person announced as they took a few steps around everyone, “Until I get word from the Matriarch you all shall be in my care. If any of the other prisoners want to have their way with you let me know. Now, time for you all to introduce yourselves.”

Soon everyone was saying their names out loud, for anyone nearby to hear. Of course when it was Theoric’s moment he stepped forward with a good sense of purpose in his step

“High King Theoric, son of Alaric.” He announced to the confusion of the Warden.

“HIgh King, you fancy yourself a royal now?” She asked while walking up to him, “What can put yourself high enough to receive that title?”

“The deeds of my Father, Warden.” He answered while giving her dead eyes, “I hope you take this in account and report my capture to your matriarch.”

“Hmph, like I would bother the Matriarch with information about you.” The Warden said before giving a short laugh, “Take these monkeys to their cells. Who knows, if you all have good behavior I will send some of you to the Zoo.”

And thus without ceremony they were thrown into the locker. The walls themselves were made of cobblestone of sorts, however Theoric knew they were not maintained very well. Maybe it was because the Elves did not care much for their prisoners but it was something valuable.

Crossing through the rooms Theoric noticed a series of monsters. Some were quite monsterous with grown out tusks while others were Orcs. He noted that there were also quite a few Elves locked up as well, however many of them had skin that was approaching ebony from Theoric’s view.

In a few moments they were settled into their cell. It was only to their luck that they were all put together.

“I cannot believe they did this!” One of Theoric’s men shouted as they punched a wall in the cell, “Damn it!”

“Indeed, they are quite the people.” Theoric grumbled as he realized Hev was right all along, “Now how do we get out of here…”

The next few days were by far the most grueling that Theoric had ever had to deal with in his life. Not that it was challenging for even without his blade most of the prisoners knew their place the moment he walked in with ten men at his side. Well except for those black elves though they took a few beatings before they learned their place.

No Theoric was bored.

He studied the place as much as he could to see if there were some chances of getting out and found some more promising ones.

Firstly the walls to their cell were weak, and with a little bit of work might be shattered with a right strike with a sword. That did require him to get a sword but considering that most of the guards were carrying them Theoric was thinking he would have a fine chance at getting them.

Next of course was digging. He had ten men and there was an open courtyard they could access even at night. The man checked during one of their ‘recesses’ and realized the walls did not go into the ground. No it seems that the Elves were more fine with settling the stone on the ground and calling it a day.

Almost as if they were lazy bastards who thought no one could escape their prison.

Lastly, of course, was that if Theoric got his sword back he might be able to destroy the walls with how pist off he was. The men learned that their gear was being held in an evidence locker south of their cells near the Warden’s office. If they grabbed some weapons from the guards they could surely make their way over there.

All this took about a month to figure out, and Theoric had a gut feeling Hev was up to something. It was not like a dwarf to abandon his charge, no, the bastard was probably preparing a lot of men to raze this bloody city to the ground. That would be nice of them, and Theoric might even join them once he breaks out.

It was an indiscript night, the only defining characteristic was that the moon was held high in the sky to grant sight to all who were blind. That there was the only characteristic that Theoric was aiming to have as he carefully unlocked his cell door.

With the darkness as his friend the High King skirted his way through the alley until he saw a guard. With a flick of his hand a neck was snapped and keys snatched. Before the man could move the body anywhere, the elf disappeared into the aether without a sound.

He knew the Dwarfs talked about it but experiencing it first hand was something he did not know could happen. Now he only wondered what was happening in that lone city they razed to the ground.

Blade ready he wormed his way through the lands and struck his blade into those who got too close. The only issue that kept coming up was that their armor would stick around upon death. Such a thing forced the High King to stuff them in a corner and hope that the elves would not notice something was off.

Finally he arrived next to the Warden’s office. With the keys of all the guards he had killed one of them proved worthy of opening the door to Theoric’s gear. As he ran into the room and opened the chest that was holding his goods he heard a clicking of a sword leaving its sheath.

“Hold it right there, criminal scum.” The woman announced as she looked down upon Theoric, “To think that you got this far. A guard’s blade was also covered in blood, so that means you killed at least two of my men. Don’t think I will let you off for this.”

“You won’t.” Theoric told her before going around with his blade and striking her through the chest. The rage against the Elves was more than enough to bring the weapon to its full bearing and clearing through her armor.

The Elf took a few steps back as she coughed up spews of blood. All of them came rolling forth and flying into the High King’s face. She reached for her weapon but the King easily sliced through her wrist without issue. She gripped the stimp that was her hand and fell upon the floor.

“DAMN YOU!” She yelled while quickly flicking her body up and slamming Theoric in the face with her foot, “I should have executed you!”

“Well you missed your chance!” Theoric called out as he finally finished the deal by removing her head from her body.

Just like all the men before, she became nothing. Only her blood that stained Theoric remained upon this mortal plane for everyone to see. The High King did not care much though as he walked his way out of the room and into the main halls.

Quickly several men came from the sides with bows and spears to try and strike at him! Those who shot bows had a few good hits until Theoric ran up to them and removed their heads from their bodies. As for the spearmen that were protecting them, they too were killed by the same strike.

Few would be able to kill a Lord, doubly so when they did not have an army to back them up.

Theoric’s men were already out of their cells grabbing gear as the High King arrived at their place, “Are you all ready?”

“YES MY KING!”

“Then we charge forth! Slaughter every elf you find!”

With that the men charged forth with Theoric in carnage. The Jail was turned into a battlefield as several elven souls were sent forth into whatever they would call an afterlife. With might that was becoming close to legendary they were slaughtering every person they came across.

Even the cobblestone walls the elves built to keep their prisoners in were shattered as Theoric sliced right through them like tissue. Such was the sheer incompetence of Elven structures.

Looking out into the world Theoric saw a city under siege. At the gates flames were raised high into the sky as folks were fleeing from the front lines. It seemed that Theoric was right in his guesses upon Hev’s actions, though in the end he never needed the Dwarf.

A King is no one without their subjects, and an army is not one without their ruler. That is what Theoric knew to be truth, thus he charged right for the front gates. There was of course the common attempt on his life by guards who had yet to arrive at the gates. They did not last long at all against the King of Man.

Soon Theoric arrived, the scores of Elvish men all looking towards him with fear in their eyes. It got worse when they saw Theoric wielding the golden glow of Fortage.

“GET OUT OF MY WAY YOU IDIOTS!” He shouted as Theoric lead a squad of men forward into combat. What was once a simple mission to keep the enemy army on the other side of the gates turned into mania as Theoric started slaughtering each and every one of them with his blade.

Some came to challenge him, however they all fell just as the previous ones had. They could not hold back the High King as he arrived at the gates that were holding back their enemies.

All he had to do was start a small fire at the bottom of the gates. What was started with a simple torch that was stolen was lit alight once more. Even amongst all the combatants Theoric was able to pierce the forces and get a clear shot at the gates.

What should have been difficult was set ablaze within only a few minutes of Theoric’s actions.

His job now done he fought his way up and through the gatehouse, killing and maiming all that stood before him. None of them could stop the High King’s advance no matter how much they tried.

Within moments, he arrived at the top of the tower.

Before him was an army, though many of the faces he did not expect. Among them were not just men from his Kingdom, but several dwarfs from the underground. There before him was the Deep King, the bastard giving Theoric a knowing smile as he raised his axe in cheer.

- Theoric's speech at the burning gatehouse of the city of burnt stone -
(name was suggest by the dwarves)

Listen to me men! Listen. For thousands of years the elves have always look down upon us and thought of us as lesser beings on par with insects, and rodents that burrow into the ground.

They mistake our resentment of their treatment of us as envious of their excess and their debauchery, unworthy of even respect or even basic curtesy in any interactions.
This was shown when the disregarded their treaty against the Dwarves when called upon to fight the Last Demon Lord. It shown again when the orcs raised a Warboss to ravage all lands and cared not for us anymore than flies on manure. Then finally again most recently and most severely, their contempt and disrespect was shown most blatantly by their disregard for diplomacy the treatment of me, The High King of Mankind, and friend of the Dwarven people.
This great insult and transgression, and transgression of the past shall no long be ignored or allowed to pass as the weight of debt must be paid and with interest to keep!
They shall be humbled in ways they shall never forget as with the memory seared into their collective thoughts for eons to come!

I really hope I don't have to greentext the write in because that messes up the formatting for me when writing this.

Every man looked upon Theoric with surprise. It was their ruler free from his prison and walking among the free once more. They had all been told he was captured, but to think the man was able enough to free himself was something they did not expect he could. That was also tied with the story their their King faced down a monstrous undead and well.

They were starting to respect him as a man, not just the son of Alaric.

“Listen to me men! For thousands of years the elves have always look down upon us and thought of us as lesser beings on par with insects, and rodents that burrow into the ground.”

Theoric sliced through some of the Elven guards who tried to jump him with a single swing. They were no match for the one who was starting to bear a grudge, “This was shown when they disregarded their treaty against the Dwarves when called upon to fight the Last Demon Lord. It showed again when the orcs raised a Warboss to ravage all lands and cared not for us anymore than flies on manure. Then finally again most recently and most severely, their contempt and disrespect was shown most blatantly by their disregard for diplomacy and the treatment of me, The High King of Mankind, and friend of the Dwarven people!”

Theoric raised his blade into the air in declaration, “This great insult and transgression, and transgression of the past that shall no longer be ignored or allowed to pass. This weight of debt must be paid and with interest to keep!”

With that Theoric turned about to face the crowds of fleeing folk, “Today shall humble them, for they shall know that their Grand City was fallen by the ‘Lower Races’. Now go forth and attack!” Theoric announced while swinging his sword towards the city.

Within moments the entire force went forth and started their attack. However a few regiments that Theoric had cut through earlier were still hanging about and giving them some trouble. However the humans were not backing down and continuing the fight!

With the battle before him it would be foolish not to run into the fold to help break the current tie. A leap off the gatehouse was all the High King needed to start his incoming slaughter of the stupid knife eared bastards.

His arrival was timely, as there might have been some credit to how the Elves thought of themselves. When in a straight on fight against his fellow man, Theoric watched as the Elves rendered their hides and turned what were respectable men into a corpse lying upon the ground.

Even the dwarfs with their armor did not fare well against an Elf’s precision. Their spears and swords would snake through their armor and find the one weak spot that was within their armor. However for every two of dwarf and man that fell, the elves lost one of their own in the onslaught.

Bad odds, but of course that did not factor Theoric or the Deep King.

His feet slammed onto the cobblestone below, quickly slicing through three elves who were foolish enough to be in his landing spot. Within a few moments he had killed enough of them to weaken their forces and force many of them to consider leaving in terror!

“HAHA! To see you fight so well reminds me of your Father!” Stog the Deep King announced as he removed five elven torsos from their bodies, “How was Prison, Theoric?”

“Boring!” The man announced as he continued his slaughter, “These fuckers were just willing to hold me in a cell for the rest of eternity!”

“I told you not to trust the elves! Never shall an elf listen to the lesser folk for they are blessed by the greatest of the gods!” He laughed while finally arriving next to Threoric, “Now you know, and hopefully your children shall as well.”

“Sir, the enemy’s Lord is attacking our left flank!” One of the men shouted as they began to reach the Royal’s position.

“Sounds like a good fight.” The Deep King admitted as he cleaned the blood off his axe.

>Head over there with the Deep King and slughter the bastard!

“Well come on then, we should cut the head off before he becomes more of a problem.” Theoric answered back while giving a wave to the Deep King, “Come on, you want to join in right?”

“Aye, let us make battle!” The Deep King announced while following Theoric to the fight.

What they found was of course the line still being held by a series of elves against man. In between the two groups one of the Elves was performing a much greater feat than any of his fellows in the realm of slaughter. Enough so that it was becoming obvious he was the problem here.

“You there!” Yelled Stog as he pointed his axe, “Prepare for the fight of your life you foolish Elf!”

“Who the-!” Before he could even finish his words Theoric was already upon him with his blade. The two’s blades connected with a flicker of magic around them. The Elf was able to get Theoric to disengage, Theoric realizing he too was wielding some sort of magical weapon.

“To think you would attack your betters!” Announced the elf as they entered a small clearing for their fight, “And you, Dwarf, to think your kind would come to stab us as well!”

“Well thats because you made a nice job kidnapping my ally!” He yelled off as he began his charge, “MEET DWARVEN FURY, ELF!!”

“DAMN YOU ALL!” The Elf announced as he tried to defend himself against Stog’s attacks. It was only a poor thing for the fool that he was fighting two people at once.

With a slash of his sword Theoric went into the Elf’s back with a furious blow, and while it made a nice size wound it was not enough to take down a powerful person. But it gave Stog the Deep King a chance to give him one nasty blow right in the stomach.

It was this sight that all around them stopped to watch. Two Kings, working in tandem against a common foe. They were unmatched in power as they finally knocked the dreadful elf down upon the ground.

“And now, STAY DOWN!” Stog took his axe and severed the head of the Royal Marshal.

And like that all the elves who were around them began to route, fearing the same was for them. Simply put, the city was theirs for the taking.

“Right then, you want to torch this place?”

>Yes, all that face Theoric the Fire King shall burn asunder. (If ya think there should be a better title, write it in.)

“No, we shall take it instead.” Theoric announced as he tightened his hands upon Fortage, “I wish to know more about these fools and take what they have done towards my realm. While they are fools, it does not mean there is nothing for me to learn from them. We are at war with them.”

“That is quite wise, now that you say it.” The Deep King laughed as he shook his head, “Unless you feel your grudge has yet to be settled you have already won your war.”

“Won? What do you mean there?”

“I have checked some old maps and found that this land does not bow to a single ruler but instead several.” He admitted with a small laugh, “My grandfather marked this place the Free Cities, and if they are to believed this was the only settlement for the Grand City of Mar’le.”

“So what are the chances of retaliation?” Theoric asked while thinking to himself for another moment, “And are you sure nothing changed since a millennium ago?”

“You think me insane about that, but do you think the Elves really commit to change?” The Dwarf Pointed out with a small chuckle, “And the chances of the other cities retaliating, if they ever found the will to do it, shall be something your sons will deal with.”

“Are the Elves really that slow?”

“More of they see no reason to leave their perches for someone who had lost their land to Barbarians?”

“I see.” Theoric said as he looked out around the place, “Then I need to figure out what exactly to do with this place.”

“Of course, since you have access to the Middle Sea your there is a little bit more for you all to learn.”

“Oh, there is an ocean out there.” Theoric said to himself as he realized this place was a port city.

For the most part the place was still held down by Theoric’s forces, but just as the Deep King said there was no retaliation within a few months of their existence. It seemed the Elves did not really care about their brethren being slaughtered, though if that was because of laziness or sheer narcissism, it is unknown.

Before Theoric left the place he made sure that the men knew to focus on operations of commerce. From what Stog said there were plenty of places across the sea that were worth traveling to for wealth. Maybe they would even become the golden purse of the Kingdom, however that was left to be seen what the result would be.

He left though, as while he wanted to stick around and watch the growing city he had many other things that he needed to take care of. One of those things was of course his child.

It was the evening when he finally returned to the Keep of Man. Quickly going through the entrance the man was up and through the halls until he finally arrived at his bedroom. There he saw a nurse tending to his wife as the woman slowly rised to meet Theoric.

“Oh, Your Highness.” She expressed while giving a sharming smile, “You have finally come home.”

“I have. Damn elves, thought I was a murderer and an arsonist. They might be right on the later one.” He joked while going to her side.

“Please be careful next time you head out, I don’t think I will be able to handle this little one alone.”

“Of course, I will be sure to not get into fights while commiting supposed crimes against other species.” He joked.

The girl gave a little laugh to her husband’s joke, “Well, here he is. I decided to hold off on naming his until you came back.”

“He went a month without a name?”

“Sadly, yes he did. I wanted to give you the honor of naming your child.” She said while diverting her gave from Theoric.

Theoric, who was a young man when he became High King, took the child. It was a small creature, one who was at the whimpse of Theoric. However he was glad to have the little guy in his arms all the same.

“Foric, his name shall be Foric.” High King Theoric declared as he looked down upon his son, “Through my efforts, he shall inherit bountiful lands and a stable Kingdom.”

“I hope to see the day that happens.” Vyde said as she accepted the boy back into her arms.

“Hopeing I die before you?” Theoric asked with a smirk, “You planning on poisoning me or something to make sure that happens?”

“Oh Heaven’s no! Why would you think that!” She expressed genuine fear at Theoric’s words.

“I’m joking, Vyde.” She said while giving her a soft kiss on the head, “I need to get back to work. When you are ready we will have some dinner alright?”

“Y-yes. That would be great.” She said while giving a small bit of pink in her face.

With those words time began to pass for the once young King. With the expansion of his new city there was just that little bit more income coming into his treasury from the people trading with those across the water. Of course the Elves were surprised to meet the humans and were assholes to them. Still, trade was trade and everyone had something to give.

Though Theoric thought to himself back to what he saw at that Elven city. The monsterous dead creature that seemed to break the very laws of reality that he knew of.

Elves, when they died, were supposed to go up into motes of light like spirits. Those he saw were however long dead but still there.

He studied a few of the Dwarven texts available to him, learning that it was because the Elves were so pure that their corpses will not stain the world. However those dead ones stuck around.

Was it because they were stained? Maybe it was because they were corrupted by something. That fruit he saw was not in the other elvish city. Maybe that was the cause for their continued existence upon this damned earth.

Still, he needed to learn more.

>Set up an Inquisition, to root out undead and corruption like that.

That event was always weighing on Theoric’s mind, more so than anything else in the world. Even when he had his second child born he was worried about what kind of monsters lurk in the horizon.

As time went on Matilda, Theoric’s mother, had died of old age. While he was cresting upon his 40th she was in her later 60’s. She should have stuck around longer in his mind but that was not something the man could have chosen.

However that was not the only death they had as Theoric walked through the newly built walls of an estate. The place was modestly built, more focused on modest sized rooms similar in fashion of a dining hall. Such a design was taken thanks to the brilliance of his Sister.

Said girl, Leric, was sitting in a chair infront of the High King with a worn out look about herself, “I cannot thank you enough for doing all this brother. I never thought the day would come that I could teach a series of students myself.”

“Seems a little big in my opinion.” Theoric admitted as he gave a small weary chuckle, “Especially since its only you now.”

“I think the future will be bright and we will have many students, brother.” She said with a charming smile, “And you know Estus would not have accepted any more students.”

“No, he was more content with teaching a single person. He probably would have teached none of not for father.”

“Well with his passing I hope to teach many others.” She answered while picking herself up, “Is there some kind of magic you would be interested in?”

“Yeah, I kinda do.” Theoric started as he looked over the things about him, “I heard you have been busy working on making some sort of elixir?”

“Ah yes, I have been working towards making a healing elixir.” She said before giving a wave, “Come, I have been working on it in the main hall.”

The journey over was not very long because of the school’s size. Plain walls littered the place as Theoric noted the two other vacant halls. They were going into the third one, which was all the places they had prepared.

The idea of course was simple. By the next generation they would be able to manage at least three large classes of people and help them become educated. It made sense since Theoric could see this place get bigger in time.

“Here we are!” She announced while they walked down a series of small cauldrons and arrived at the front, “It seems to be about ready, though it needs a little bit more blood of an animal.”

Theoric watched as she let out a few drops from what was a dead rabbit. The beast he realized was just barely alive as the girl sliced into its neck and released a small amount of blood into the vat. He looked over it to see the vat almost a dark blood red color.

“Was all of this blood?” He dared to ask.

“It is.” His Sister answered while stirring the pot, “I require fresh life to be poured in. Blood is of course the most ready, however I have found that fresh milk comes with about the same, if much weaker, effect.”

Theoric in his drowsy state thought back to the monster. It too was made of flesh. Was this different from the thing?

“Theoric, are you okay?” His Sister asked as she looked him over, “You have been growing much weaker in these last few days.”

“Yes, I have.” He gave a small chuckle while shaking his head, “I’ve been overworked here. Hell I have had two more kids and started up the Inquisitors.”

“Well in that case do you want to try this?” His sister asked while giving him the small pot, “It should do wonders for your stress.”

“Sure, give it here.” Theoric said while extending a hand towards his Sister.

She handed him a small jar filled with the red liquid gingerly. Taking a sip out of it the High King recognized the copper taste of blood within it. However there was a small sense of power within it that seemed to help his minor aches across his body.

“So, how do you feel?” She asked while looking all over Theoric.

“A little better in some respects.” He answered while testing out his limbs, “I’m still pretty tired, but my muscles feel a lot more calm because of it.”

“So I guess it only helps with injuries.” She murmured while taking the bottle back, “You should probably start making your way back.”

“I should.” Theoric said while rising from his seat, “I hope you are able to get enough people to come attend your school.”

“Fufu, I already have ten students lined up, all already adults. However I feel we can go younger than that.”

“Just don’t go overboard.” Theoric answered while getting up and leaving the place.

Soon he was out of the door and walking towards his carriage. Taking out a small series of notes as he looked over towards Hev, “What?”

“Just thinking, Theoric.” The Dwarf answered while rustling through a few papers, “That idea you had, to take care of monsters like we saw.”

“What were you able to find?”

“Quite a few tomes, many of them the Rune Master about killed me over.” The Dwarf answered while patting a small package next to him, “I also got a few names for you to look over.”

“These are the men you think are able?” Theoric asked while taking up the list.

“Of course. Though I worry about if we are putting the smelter before the ore.”

“What do you mean?”

“What we saw, well, I am worried about what everyone currently thinks.” He answered while tapping his heart, “Your people, they believe in everything and anything. Even if we start something here what is not allowed? At least with our Five, we know what they are all about. I don’t know about yours.”

“You know I am also a follower of the five.”

“You’re correct. The gods are surely happy with what you have accomplished!” He laughed while tapping his hands on the books, “But they are for us Dwarfs, I guess is what I am trying to get at.”

>There is only one man who truly deserves worship, that is my father Alaric Orcbreaker and King among Kings. We shall consolidate the faiths of mankind under this banner casting off the barbaric traditions of old and keeping those that will help forge the Kingdom together. While the dwarf pantheon is not our kin by blood they are our kin through struggle and thus will also be revered by us however in a more auxiliary way, as the adopted kin of my father.

“I… I wonder what my people have started worshipping then.” Theoric said to himself as he pondered to himself, “I know that they tend to develop cults to a specific being or practice. Maybe there is something among those.”

“Aye, I think that is possible. Maybe a God has shown his influence among a few of you and is now extending his hand to help you.”

“How do we know they are not Evil?”

“Well we have the names of a few evil gods here.” The Dwarf tapped on the top of his books with a small laugh.

“Is there the chance for new ones to spawn out of nothing?”

“That I do not know. I just know they lurk in the shadows and prepare to form massive tides of monsters when they get the chance.”

Theoric rested on his back for a moment as he thought to himself. While of course he could search through the numerous cults of the lands the method on how was tricky. What came to a head was, “Do I seek them out as my own faith?”

“I cannot say as even myself I’ve barely felt my gods. I know they are there as the runes are blessed and ale always tastes sweet.” He answered with a small chuckle, “But can you find one worthy of your worship?”

“Thats a weird way of putting it.”

“Aye but of course. Not just any old God is going to work for you. They should approach you just as much as you will them. If people worship gods without any benefit than someone is skipping out on their duty.”

>Well then, Theoric shall wonder his Kingdom’s Cults to see what he is looking for.

The words Hev spoke forever reverberated within the mind of Theoric. The thoughts that man shall find a god that will grant him benefits along with becoming their lord. Such a deal was a complexe one for sure to strike. However he must find to strike it!

Thus an invitation was sent. Theoric was to welcome any and all cults to the Keep of Man to present their case. They shall then debate against one another about who shall gain the favor of the High King, and thus be promoted into a state religion.

Theoric knew it was going to be a hard thing to do. Doubly so when there are a supposid hundreds of these cults within his realm. However he suspected quite a few would be culled before they arrived at his door step.

His suspicions were right. As out of hundreds to arrive only about thirty forces seemed to arrive. Based from his educated eye Theoric noticed that many of those here were split into three groups of about ten each. Maybe they already aligned themselves in kinds of pantheons?

He simply did not know well enough to make the decision.

Still it did not mean he should delay the event any longer, “I welcome all of you to the Keep of Man! Today the soul of mankind shall be decided, for many beings lurk in the darkness to cause us troubles. While I feel it has yet to touch man, that is only my own ignorant observations.”

Many in the room gave nods of affirmation towards these words. They were all on trial here and expected to put the best forward of their gods.

Now for the first subject…
>What is man, in the eyes of your god?

“We should probably start sooner rather than later.” Theoric announced as he looked over the groups of people, “We will start with the left and work our way right, what is man in the eyes of your gods?”

The groups of people seemed to talk among themselves for a moment, as if debating their answer with one another. Theoric could not help but notice that some of them were getting out sticks of incense while others were starting to crush the bones of long dead beasts. Others however simply stood there with a smirk on their face as if they alread knew the answer.

Simply put, Theoric was starting to wonder what everyone was thinking.

Soon the group on his left began to make their final movements. Theoric noted how these men were almost announcing their presence to everyone, “I thank you for such a trial my lord! We, as well as our gods, are honored to be here.”

“Thank you.” Theoric said as he looked upon the leader, “Continue if you would.”

“Man is the most intelligent being in the world! And their leader is the greatest of them all!” The man announced as he gave Theoric a wild eye, “Man shall rule the world, and you Theoric shall lead them onwards to the end of days!”

Theoric’s brow was raised to that, however he simply shook his head as he was realizing what they were. These men were just con artists trying to appeal to his ego.

“Next.” He called out almost saddened at their expression.

“As they have said, thank you for this opportunity.” The men said as he looked around the room, “We see man along with the rest of sentient life, if he is capable of worship then he is sentient. As for what differs man, it is simply our young age against the other races. However we, as the voices of our gods, claim that mankind has potential to become better than any of the other races.”

“Reasonable.” Theoric admitted while turning his head towards the next group, “And what of you all?”

“Man is a fighter!” The next group who wore armor declared, “Man has fought their way to now and they will go even further! Long life man!”

Theoric watched with a good bit of enjoyment as the several folks around him began chanting in fervor. Quite the powerful folks, if Theoric must admit himself.

“And lastly.” Theoric said as he presented a hand towards the robe wearing folk.

“Thank you, my liege.” The robed fellows said as they prepared themselves with incense, “Mankind is a curious, stubborn, and young race. There is much for us to explore in this world. However we know of the Darkest corners, and only with exploration of both the world and our minds may we root out the source of evil.”

“Thank you very much.” Theoric said as he thought to himself.

“Now that we have gotten all of your responses, next we shall determine structure.” Theoric declared as he looked from one side of the room to the other, “Whoever’s deity is chosen shall need to assist me in building a new organization from the ground up. Thus I wish to know what ideas everyone has.”

With that said the first to stand up were the folk Theoric was suspicious of, “Every man shall have his own sanctum, and they shall look over the people. Is there really anything else you ask us to give?”

“Such a structure shall easily become rife with corruption.” The heavily robed fellows on Theoric’s right declared, “We will raise men based on what they have achieved. Let it be discovering pieces of the world, learning something of man, or rooting out evil that shall all be awarded with rank. The greatest of us shall oversee our study.”

“But there you forget about man himself, don’t you?” The Priests second from the left pointed out, “We will raise staples of learning across the Kingdom, there people shall learn the words of the Gods. From there the greatest of our learned men shall become the leaders of the church.”

“Ahah! I am kinda feeling the robed fellows here.” The warriors announced with a mighty laugh, “I don’t know about how you are going to be raising your preachers but I know ours shall be of the sword! And above all of them of course shall be the few who carry the greatest line of warriors.” He said while dipping his head towards Theoric.

“That is an idea.” Theoric said as he shook his head, “I guess we have one more quick question to ask. What is your thoughts upon the Evils of the world?”

“They shall be uprooted wherever they are! To poison a single man it shall spread!” Said the heavily robed folk.

To that the warriors laughed, “If they are tricksters that try and get their way through manipulation they shall be killed. Same goes for folk who push themselves upon others.”

“We think evil.” The priests said as they thought to themselves, “Is going against the community and people. If that collapse we shall have nothing.”

“Evil?” The consters said, “Well basphomy would be the one I can think of.”

“What you all mentioned earlier was something we need to note.” Theoric stated as he pointed towards the more conservative folks on the left, “What can you provide to the common man?”

“Haha! Well that is an easy answer!” The Warriors declared as their leader slammed his hand into the table, “We shall protect the people from all those outside, for monsters roam this world and we will obliterate them!”

“Simple and understandable, however we must realize the taint within.” He said while pointing towards the conservatives, “To normal folk, we do not expect everyone to take in as much as those within the Order have. What we will provide is guidance and vigilance against corruption and gain favor of the people through action.”

“It is best to educate everyone and form a community around it.” The Conservatives said as they gave the robed fellows a death stare, “That way they know whatever corruption you speak of is and how to root it out!”

“I just want to give people hope for myself.” The Conster admitted with a small laugh, “Even in the most trying times men will throw themselves at walls to complete dogma they believe in.”

“Interesting, all of you are.” Theoric admitted as he gave a near deathly sigh. It seemed a sort of order of agreement was forming around them all along with animosity. Still the High King had to continue, “Lastly I ask you all, what is the results of those who follow your gods? What do they provide to us men for their worship in the most dire times.”

“Everyone shall receive happiness.” The ones to Theoric’s left announced as they tried their fastest to gain speed, “He will not look over those who have at least said a few words in his name.”

“That's rubbish, and you know it.” The Warriors announced as they gave glared daggers at the consters, “Actions is what devotes reward! Our God, Tor, shall grant his champions the eternal battle against Evil!”

“A battle against evil, while not something I wish upon everyone they are needed.” The Conservatives said as they gave a hand towards the warriors, “If a man leads a good and honest life, he is destined for tenure within the realm of gods. That is our people’s fate.”

“An eternal crusade is something we also respect.” The Monks admitted as they glanced towards the conservatives, “However just being good is not good enough! Through actions you shall be granted the glorious might that will place you above both corruption and your fellow man.”

With a nod Theoric understood things were changing, and that lines were drawns. Their philosophies were mixing, and he could take advantage of it to form an even stronger people.

There was much deliberation in the mind of Theoric. To this he simply had to make up his mind at this opportunity and pointed at two groups, “Warriors of Tor and Priests of Hoff, you shall stay. The rest of you will leave.”

The men to his immediate right began to bager at one another, obviously angry at the fate that had befallen them. However the monks to his right simply gave a bow before one of them approached Theoric himself.

“We respect your decision, High King, however I wish to give you a warning of the future.” He said while looking deeply into the King, “The Darkness is near us and is preparing, at the corner now. It will be after your life that it comes and shall try and engulf your father’s line. That is all.”

And they did indeed leave, Theoric wondering if that was a threat or prophecy. That did not matter to him now. Now was the time he readied themselves to start up the order that he had been waiting upon.

“Now that we've figured out who the losers, don’t you agree that we need to figure out who is on top?” The Warrior called out as he took a drink.

“What are you speaking of?” The Conservatives asked with confusion, “We are to be working together, is that not what is clear now?”

“Aye, of course it is. However I feel Tor will not allow himself to be placed below any other god.” The Warrior shot back with a smile.

“So you claim that Hoff is below Tor, preposterous.” The Conservatives shot back with daggers for eyes, “Was it not Tor who led to the second blotting of the Sun?”

“That was only because the demon he slayed covered the sun for a few days.” The Warrior laughed, “Hoff has not done anything besides sitting within his home for the past millennium!”

“You say that, but Hoff was the one who taught man how to create fire! Such a feat is recognized whenever we light a flame!”

Hmm, it seems Theoric has a new problem

“Priests of Hoff, I will be putting you first and foremost.” Theoric declared.

“Come on, we are good for it!” Declared the Warriors of Tor as one of their men slammed their hands on the table, “We will purge any kind of corruption that might seep into your realm.”

“I like that, however.” Theoric thought to himself for a moment, “Do you all really want to be tied down to organize these kind of things?”

The warriors looked at one another for a moment, “You make a good point. Tor is still the better one, but we can accept it if Hoff becomes the head of this new patheon.”

“Than we will get started.” Announced the Priests as they raised themselves from their chairs, “I heard you had somekind of project happening, my Lord?”

“Of course.” Theoric announced as he started to make his way out, “I will let my advisor work with you, I need to go and rest for the moment.”

The representatives of the group looked at Theoric with a small bit of worry, “We hope you get better.” Prayed one of the Priests.

With those words Theoric was off to rest, the weight of his life already coming in upon him. Even now he knew he was getting to his end. That's what happens when a man tries to do too many things at one.

The last few years of Theoric’s life was given to working on confirming the validity of the faith he was responsible for spawning. Such a thing was really his responsibility and whatever it did he would need to take it.

Luckily it seemed he made the right choice. Quickly the places of worship started to rise thanks to the assistance of the Dwarfs. These were only the first few, but there were plenty more to be built as the man continued to work.

However he was starting to feel his age come upon his.

“Don’t try to get up too fast, Theoric.” His single wife said as she tried her best to keep him from moving too much.

“I know, I know. By the Gods I feel my flesh is almost scarred all over.” Theoric said while rubbing his bicep.

“Your time among the elves might have done more than we all thought.” His wife answered as she oured him a little bit of water, “Drink.”

“Thank you.” Theoric answered as he took a small gulp, “Where is Foric?”

“He is currently still learning from the Dwarfs.” She answered while looking Theoric over, “Should I call him in?”

“No, I still remembered the day something like this happened.” Theoric admitted as memories started to come back, “I guess its something about my family that we don’t get old.”

“No, you can’t say that!”

“Its true though. I will not fake the truth.”

We already make great deeds in Theoric's name: Gained the name of The Arsonists thanks to how we hunted the traitors (Hopefully it get's changed to something more noble), we tried to make a Pilgrimage to all out kingdom to "bury" our father in the valley of heroes (something that I don't remember if we completed or not because of our grampa ambushing us), purged the Fleshorrors from this world in the land of elf, and when they fucked us over we basically conquered the city inside out and claimed it

It was a good life, and we shall rest with our loved ones. Maybe making a family reunion so that Foric meets all their uncles, cousins and all that. I'm seeing that there might be troubles if we don't make that everyone in our family have strong bonds between them so they don't fight each other, like the story Hev told to our dad years ago.

It will bite our ass sooner or later, but i like it if it's later than sooner

A few more years went by and Theoric was upon his bed looking out before the few people before him. It seemed the King, now reaching his 50’s, was approaching the end of his life thanks to all the work he had done.

“Father.” Foric said as he looked down upon Theoric, “You are going to make it through this right?”

“I can’t say. I saw blood in my shit a few days ago and I don’t really feel my hands any more.” The man gave a short laugh to himself, “Maybe this is the reason my father wanted to die in battle.”

“...” The young man, age 25, looked at his father with restless eyes, “Then that means I will become King?”

“Yup, and with no Siblings you are going to not only get my land but your mother’s.” He gave a short laugh while shaking his head, “Hey at least you are a little more prepared than I am.”

“Yeah, I guess you are right there.” The boy said while looking Theoric over once more.

“For your future, son, that blade there is yours.” Theoric said as he pointed towards Fortage, “Wielded by your Grandfather and myself, it shall be yours.”

“Its so… powerful.” He said while gripping the sword.

“Indeed it is. However its true might only comes out when you are fighting with passion. Though maybe a feeling of revenge helps it.” Theoric laughed a little, “Go forth my son, for you are the Grandson of Alaric the Great and Son to Theoric the Arsonist. Go on and rule.”

“Thank you… father.” Foric said as he left the room.

Upon that night, Theoric passed from this world into the next. Where his soul goes none know. However he made his mark upon the world the moment he burnt the Northern Forests to ash.

Crusher of the Chieftain Rebellion. Father of the Church. Killer of Corruption. These were the titles he was known upon his passing.
