4chan
/qst/ - Quests

Foric Grudgebearer, a man of immense power and prestige. Thanks to his victories in the North the King was able to prevent any future wars against his realm. However even with that there was still troubles at home that he needs to care for. Who knows though, he might be able to settle down the laws needed to guarantee the future.

>Write in as acceptable as long as they follow the rule above. If its clever enough I might even add some of it to the result elected
>If you pick multiple options of what I already gave you, without being out of the box, it will harm the character since they are doing more than they are naturally capable of.
>Normally here I would say something like, ‘be kind’, but this is 4chan so I wont even bother making it a rule.
>Don’t be afraid to discuss things, just remember that there are some limitations thanks to both culture and technology. Hell, you guys could discuss whether it's better to make a Holy Roman Empire Electoral System or just go Partition.

Alright, time to get started.
>>
The sun shined brightly over the peak of the mountain. Said mountain was the home of the Bastion of Man, being a rather lone one against the rest of the open fields. These fields were filled with enough crops that the entire realm was to eat off of this here. Thus a reason for such a fortress was justified, in that it protected the numerous farmers from invasion.

At least for this generation, however, there shall not be an invasion. No the chances of that were culled when the current High King Foric Grudgebearer defeated the High Chieftain. A title that he saw as a mockery, and was henceforth used as such for ages to come.

The High King himself was sitting upon his throne, one that looked down upon his court from a small pyramid.

“So what is on the Schedule today?” Foric asked his advisor with a small smile.

“Well there are a few things you can probably work on. Firstly, as always, we have some folk who are looking for your word of Law. One of them I think it more needed than others.”

“After that?”

“Well it seems some are seeking for you to be wedded. Some are even trying to get you to be their husbands as well.” Hev said while giving a small chuckle, “You know, it feels like yesterday that I saw your father get married.”

“You are getting old Hev.” Foric laughed at the Dwarf.

“Maybe I am. Though you humans have astounded me to say the least.” The Dwarf admitted while looking at the last thing, “Lastly, as usual, many are seeking you to create a council.”

“What kind of powers do they even expect me to give them?”

“None at this point.” Hev admitted while shaking his head, “Though things are getting a little harder to manage these days.”

“They are, aren't they.”

“I think it is about time I get a wife. All of my work will be a waste if there is no Heir to inherit my Kingdom.” Foric answered while sighing.

“That is indeed true. I have a list here of who I think are the best options when it comes to those who came. Then again we can always search for a prefered wife for you if you so desire it.” Hev said while struggling to get some paper together.

“Well I will at least hear who has come before me. If none of them seem up to snuff then I will take you up on that offer.”

“Here we go, found it!” Cheered the Dwarf while reading the list, “First on the list is actually a relative of yours, second cousin from the looks of things.”

“A second Cousin?”

“Yes, they live within your domains and has a stable family. I don’t think anyone would be bat an eye if you were to choose her.” Hev admitted while looking the list over, “Then again she is a relative, but who isn’t?”

“Who else we have?”

“Hmm… it seems Duke Moc has submitted his Daughter’s hand in this bid.”

“He has a daughter? Why did the man not tell me before?” Foric asked the advisor.

“Maybe he forgot, or maybe he realized you were busy when the two of you met for the first time.” Hev pointed out.

“I… cannot go against those words.” Foric admitted, “Any others?”

“Your aunt for some reason, says she found a brilliant girl who would be cute with you.”

“Are you talking of my aunt who is running the academy?”

“The same one, High King.” Hev said with a small chuckle, “I think she is of normal blood but your aunt’s recommendation is quite high.”

“Then I think its time we go over and visit my aunt then.” Foric announced while rising from his Throne, “I would prefer someone reliable enough to be my wife, instead of them becoming useless.”

“Quite strong words, but ones I would expect from a King.” Hev admitted while he started making his way down from the throne, “It should not take very long for us to arrive at your Aunt’s Academy.”

“No it shouldn’t.” Foric admitted as they left the room, wondering just what kind of person was his Aunt suggesting?

The travel over was not very long, simply traveling their way west towards the Dragon scale Mountains. Unlike the academy the Dwarfs operated for young nobles, this school was built with the purpose of training magic. Some would see it as a school after the Dwarfish one, since they did not bother taking people under the age of 16.

This of course was the reason many of the people at the School of Magic was about Foric’s age. Many of them looking at him with awe since many were the children of nobility. These people knew who Foric was, and they knew to respect him.

Maybe he was paying too much attention to those around him, and not what was infront of him to dodge what was coming around the corner. There hit was only at walking speed, but Foric was closer to a brick wall than his father when it came to running into him.

“Ouch!” a girl close to yelled as she was sent flying back and on her ass. Several pieces of paper going about the place as she made her landing.

The girl looked up for a moment rubbing her head, while Foric had to rub his nose. However pain was temporary and the girl started moving her hand to collect the numerous papers that were strung around her.

“Ugh, hey there can you help me. Sorry for hitting ya, but I need some help down here.” she said while getting on her knees to pick things up.

“Yeah here, give me a moment.” Foric said as he kneeled down and started collecting papers. His interest peaked as he looked at a diagram, “Is this what Shamans are supposed to learn?”

“Well, kinda.” She accepted the papers and scratched the back of her neck, “I am doing some research on a ritual of cleaning.”

“Ritual of Cleaning?”

“Yes, it is said to help clean a man spotless in both body and soul.” She told Foric while pointing at the diagram, “It's such a big construct though. I was trying to figure out what exactly made it tick.”

“Hmm, I cannot really say when it comes to Magic. Though when it comes to Runes the Dwarfs used I was told they could be any size as long as the material is good enough.”

“Really, what kind of Material are we talking?” She asked with a raised brow.

“Normally Gold is the most malleable to rune engravement.” Foric told her while drawing Fortage, “We do not know the exact metal this sword is made of-”

“But it's obviously some kind of gold.” She finished his sentence with a small sense of wonderment in her voice.

“Indeed, now where were you off to anyways?”

“To the Sorceress’s Office.” She said while making sure her papers were correct, “She said she wanted to see me about something so here I am.”

“Are you, well I am making my way over there as well.” Foric said with a raised brow, “Mind showing me the way?”

“Of course!” She cheered while waving on Foric towards the place.

Hev stayed silent as the two arrived at a pair of doors, the woman opening the doors, “Ms. Leric, you asked for me to come over?”

“I have, and it seems you found the High King on the way. My, I did not expect that.” a woman who was nearing her fifties said with a smile.

“The High King?” The woman in front of Foric went pale as she turned around, “H-High King Foric!”

“That is indeed me, miss.” Foric grew a smile while giving a curt bow, “May I have your name as well?”

“M-Magia of Oskert. Sorry, I should be more proper!” She said while stumbling for a moment, “I am Magia of Oskert, my King. It is a pleasure to see you here today.”

“It is my pleasure to meet you, Magia.” Foric told her while giving a curt bow.

Leric grew a wide smile as she “Now then, about that marriage-”

“Hold it there Leric.” Foric began as he gave her a sharp eye, “Firstly it is her choice on whether we should be married or not. We are not like the barbarians of the North are we?”

“Is that so?” The woman looked Foric and Magia up and down for a moment, “Mr. Hev, there is something I wanted to talk to you about. If you would come this way.”

“Aye, I have the time.” The Dwarf said while giving a knowing glance towards Foric. Soon enough the two of them were out of the room.

“Well, I did not expect that.” Magia admitted with a small blush on her face, “I would have hoped she would at least mentioned my reason for coming here. Especially with something so important.”

“People can be like that sometimes.” Foric had to admit while shaking his head, “Do you have any family by chance?”

“No I do not.” She sighed while turning towards Foric, “They were lost due to a plague that hit out town. Leric rescued me as she was making her way through the village when I was twelve.”

“So you see her as a Mother of sorts?”

“I do, she taught me a lot of things and cared for me. Though…”

“Yeah she went a little too far. Even in arranged affairs most folk know what's happening.” Foric admitted with a small chuckle, “Though she really does care for you, since she tried getting you with the High King.”

“Indeed. I guess… what should we do now?” a faint flush went by her face though she did not look away from Foric.

“Well I am up for learning a little more about you, and the same goes the other way.” Foric answered her while a small smile, “It would be foolish if we get together only to poison or chop the other’s head off because we hated each other.”

“Well that's a little brutal, wouldn’t you say?” She said back to him with a whirly smile.

“You are right… such thoughts do come when you are busy listening to everyone’s pleas.” Foric admitted with a chuckle, “I have listened to a few disputes already and don’t want to make the same mistake they did.”

“And I would agree with that. It would cost me lots of research time to become the wife of the most powerful man in the world. Though if he made me want to do it…” She gave him a curved smile, “Then I might be up for a little change in occupation.”

“Well if you are free here today, I have already marked the rest of my day off.” Foric answered back to her, “Would you be up for something?”

“I would be.”

“Then how about you show me how your magic here works.” Foric said as he walked towards her, “To be honest, I know very little of magic. The closest I have gotten was of course the Dwarf understanding of Runes.”

“Oh, really?” The woman asked with a small smirk, “I would not call that very romantic.”

“You going to bash on me for being interested?”

“Of course not, I was just wondering.”

“Fine fine.” Foric shook his head with a small chuckle, “Does it matter what we do as long as we learn about one another?”

“You… have me there.” She said while folding her arms under her breasts, “Well you might as well follow me to the field. I cannot really show you much here.”

The travel was not very long, though Foric was curious why they were walking outside. Soon they came to a rather large area that held a large circle of sand in the middle of it. Magia took a small rake and started to even out the surface of the sands.

“This here is where the magic literally happens. Mind helping me even out the platform?” She said while pointing out another tool.

“Yeah, I can do that.” Foric said while grabbing a rake and started working, “So what are we going to work at?”

“Well considering I have two people instead of just myself, I am wanting to test out a two person ritual.” She answered while nodding to Foric, “Remember that ritual I was talking about earlier?”

“Y-yes? But before that I did not have any magic.”

“Come on, everyone has magic. I’ll even guide you through it.” She said with a charming smile.

“Alright, let's try it out.” Foric said as he took a few steps forward, “Maybe if I have some magical talents I should become a sorcerer.”

“Well lets see how powerful you are first, this will be a good measure. Leric did it with me so its probably a good measure.” Magia said as she created a sigil the size of the pit, “Now stand on the other side from me, hold your arms out like this.”

“Alright?” Foric felt a little confused as he mimicked her.

“Now I will start giving it some mana, you will then feel it try to draw mana from you.” She said while bringing her palms before her, “Now, let us begin.”

Foric felt a little amazed as he watched the diagram before him start to glow with the same shine a rune would have. It was not a terribly strong one, but his amazement upon seeing it was not diminished in the slightest.

Magia was not wrong as Foric felt something attempt to leave him. Now that he got a feeling of it, it reminded him of the time he fought against the High Chief. This time around it was more tame however. Maybe one should say it was not spiked with his personal fury.

He allowed it to leave him, entering the diagram with a golden force. It was different from Magia’s blue, and it caused the entire array to change towards his color. To that Magia’s eyes widened a good bit, however she did not stop the ritual and allowed it to continue.

A few moments passed before the spell completed itself, a large blow of fresh air hitting Foric in the face. It was pretty nice air though, maybe the cleanest air he had ever breathed in his entire life.

“Enjoying the breeze are you?” Magia asked as she walked up next to him.

“Yup.” Foric said while still taking in the moment.

As moments passed he noticed the woman getting out a small piece of paper and started writing some things down. He still had a few moments of the freshest air upon this earth that he did not bother to ask what it was until the breeze was finally over.

“What are you writing there?” Foric asked as he turned towards her.

“Well I just saw something interesting, if you agree as well.” She pointed out while biting the tip of her pen, “I do not even think Leric had mana like that.”

“Maybe I am just special.” Foric answered her with a smirk.

“Hmm, maybe. Is it because of your status?” She asked the air with a small question mark above her head.

“Maybe it is.” Foric admitted as he thought to himself for a few more moment, “I mean, my Sister does not have it so it cannot be that tied to the blood line.”

“Well it might be, in some weird way.” She pointed out before getting close and handling Foric’s hand, “Do you mind if I do something to you? It will hurt a good bit but it will help me with this.”

“Go on ahead.” Foric said as he allowed her control of his arm.

Taking out a small knife, Foric watched her do a small incision on his arm. A small amount of blood dripped out from the wound. Really it was not painful, however Foric felt things were getting a little bad the moment the woman took her finger and placed it upon his injury.

The next moment Foric felt a massive amount of pain coming from his arm. It was like someone was trying their best to stab him, but he knew in reality he barely had a wound to speak of. He was the High King and a grandson of Alaric, thus he did not even budge as the pain would surely have almost incapacitated a normal mortal.

And in the next moment, it was gone.

“Done.” She said while looking up into Foric’s eyes, “You took that a lot better than I thought you would.”

“I am the High King, Magia.” Foric told her with a firmness in his voice, “I am not your normal man.”

“You are not, that is for sure.” She answered while walking away from him, “I have figured out that you do have a decent amount of mana in you, but not as much as myself. I would say it is a little smaller than Leric’s reserves.”

“But is there anything different than besides the golden hue?”

“Well if you let me take some of your blood, solivia, and other materials I might be able to learn a little more.”

“I can give you the first two, but the last one does not come at command.” He said while getting a small blush himself, “Maybe with a little encouragement something might happen.”

“Than I will need to work on it.” She said before taking out a pair of vials, “Spit and bleed into these and then I will need some time. Can you give me about two weeks?”

“Two weeks? Yeah I can do that.” Foric answered her while bleeding into the vial, “Maybe we can have a meal together right then.”

“I would love that.” She said while taking the vial away from Foric.

And with that, the two separated for the evening.

After about two weeks Foric found himself in the realm of the Dwarves once again. The place has of course grown so much larger than it ever has before. Several pieces of their mountain was carved out while numerous tunnels were dug so that they could connect to the growing holds of man across the realm.

The guards who stood watch over the old dwarf went to the sides upon Foric’s appearance. Their faces of course did not betray anything upon them, but Foric felt they were surprised to see him. Maybe it was because they saw several generations of his family, or maybe it was because of the power he held within his blade.

Either way he was past them, standing before a dwarf with a white beard sitting upon a throne.

“It has been a while, hasn’t it?” The Deep King asked as he rose from his throne and walked towards Foric, “I have not seen much of your Father, except his own Marriage. Though I can say you are much more like your Grandfather than he ever was.”

“I am honored to be called such.” Foric said while placing his hand above his heart.

“I don’t say that lightly. You have fought in a war and did not need rescue like your Father. From what Hev has said to me you have gone forth and finished off a foe your Father failed to conquer.”

“Hev would be telling the truth then. The traitor to mankind is frozen dead in the snow as we speak.”

“Good, good!” The Deep King bellowed while waving towards Foric, “I would not be a good host if I did not give you some drink.”

“And I would be a bad guest if I denied it!” Foric laughed while following the Dwarf.

The room was pretty spacious, even for men. The walls looked to have been carved right out of the stone, worked to perfect by what was likely one of the greatest artisans the Dwarfs ever had. About the walls too were numerous sigils, many of them likely holding powers that defended the room. Next to all this though were rows and rows of wooden barrels of Dwarvish mead.

“Here you go.” The High King said as he handed Foric a mug of ale, “Take a moment and relax yourself, grandson of Alaric.”

“Thank you,” Foric said while taking up the drink, “Why this is the best brew I have ever had.”

“I hope it is, I paid good money for it!” The dwarf laughed as he lounged back, “Though I will admit storing stuff in here always gives it a better taste. I tend to think its related to the runes but I can never really say.”

“We never can, can we.” Foric said as he downed the drink, “Where did the ingredients for this drink come from?”

“An odd little thing to be curious about. I believe it was from a small farm near your own keep I do think.” The Dwarf answered.

Foric grew a small smile upon hearing those words, “Man and Dwarf working together, to think we can make such a marvelous beverage.”

“Indeed, I believe the farm was made under the heavy hands of your Grandfather. He wanted to make sure everyone had enough to eat. Pity he never got to drink the fruits of his labor.” The Dwarf said, “Did they tell you where he was lost?”

“Dragon Scale Mountains, I heard once.” Foric said as he tapped his blade, “It was one of those things Hev hated talking about, but made sure I knew everything about it.”

“Thats why I trusted him to help guide you all. And he did a mighty fine job at it!” He answered back while pouring some more drink.

Foric thought about things that were upon his mind, “I wonder, do you have any ideas what we should build now?”

“Build?” There was a hint of interest in the words of the Deep King as they went through his ears.

>Yes, to build something to become a monument to our eternal alliance.

“Well, I looked around us and see all these runes. Do you fellows still know what any of them still do these days?”

The Deep King gave a solemn nod as he listened to Foric’s words, “We do not. This hall was commissioned by my Grandfather before the great war. The maker’s name is not even known to us, let alone whatever kinds of knowledge he holds.”

“A grave loss. The Dark Lord was that powerful wasn’t he?”

“He was. There is not much we can do about it besides rebuild from the base up.” The Deep King admitted, “Through your words, are you suggesting we join together to try and learn these runes?”

“Why of course. I am sure if we decode even one of these runes within the room we can bring a near revolutionary change to our empires.” Foric admitted as he jestered about the room.

“I do like the idea, and many of my Dwarfs are already working hard upon it. With plentiful foodstuff we have been able to stay in the workshops much longer than before.” The Deep King said, “However if I were to do this, it would mean giving up the Secrets of Rune Making to achieve this. It is something that I know is fundamentally Dwarven as even our writings are based on such.”

“So you are suggesting a trade of some kind?” Foric said back to the King.

“Simply put I do not know if man has anything of enough value to warrant the trade.” The Deep King admitted, “Runes are Dwarvish. To give it up would mean we need something equal in value from man as well.”

"I had time to think in this years, and while the realm of man still need many things to be a proper empire like the one of the dwarfs, i wish to teach a true lesson to the elves of the south. What my father did was clearly not enough, as they still consider both of our people as unworthy, and they still offend us to this day even if we trade with them. Even if their might is still weak and they become weaker instead of growing stronger. In a few years i will call upon a great war against the elves and conquer their puny cities and realms."
"And if in them, we find any dwarven artifacts or relics, which i imagine there are plenty since the elves are untrustworthy and false as a people, i will leave them untouched and send them to you. I will also send some of the elves loot we will made, and share all the elves knowledge with your people. That i promise, write down and take an oath upon it."

“Try and get something that is distinguishably human.” Foric said as he looked towards the Dwarf, “That's what you are suggesting?”

“You’re correct, try and learn something that no race other than man can do.” The Deep King answered, “Once you get something like that, something with great value, we can look into sharing each other’s secrets.”

“That would be a good thing…” Foric said as he thought to himself more and more, “Any ideas on what we men can do that you have yet to know yet?”

“Maybe one thing.” The Dwarf admitted as he took a drink, “I remember Alaric talking about how he wished he stole some of the Orc’s wolves and rode them into battle. If I had to be honest I felt man riding monsters and beasts not so far off. The only race I have seen do it are Orcs in any great number.”

“That is not a bad idea, though there are some other things that we are just learning.” Foric admitted as he slowly took a drink, “Though we are researching some magic that might work out here in the future.”

“Finding your own form of magic, now that would be interesting.” Foric said with a small laugh, “I take it does not have anything to do with making trees grow really fast?”

“No it does not, I take it the Elves can do that?”

“Aye, and they are damn good at it.”

Before Foric were a series of papers. Written upon each was a small survey of the beasts that were spotted in the wild that people thought would be worth capturing. Pros and Cons, each weighed against one another.

“So what have you found out?” Magia said as she looked over the table towards Foric’s little workspace.

“I have three potential beasts. Some are more formidable than others, but all of them seem like good choices to turn into a mighty mount.” Foric said as his eyes narrowed on the papers.

“If you are having such a problem figuring them out, why don’t you just talk out loud. That is the reason you are here correct?” She asked with a stick pointed in Foric’s face.

“Very well, can’t hurt that much.” Foric admitted as he took a look at the first page, “Zaron, a timid lizard like creature that lives on the southern beaches of the Empire. They do not mind people that much, but if faced with actual predators they tend to run at speeds unreachable by people.”

“Interesting, would they be easy to capture?”

“If we lured them into a cave or a series of fences they might not try and break through. Still though they sound a little skittish if they catch onto what we are doing.” Foric said while moving to the next page, “Next is the Ragoo. It is a creature with a powerful build similar to the beasts of burden that we use in the Kingdom. However most of that is devoted to their horns. Currently found within and near Dragon Scale Mountains.”

“Is there anything there about what they do about Dragons?”

“Seems they mostly stay in herds to fend off against Dragons. They are not stupid enough to attack a full herd and risk killing off their food supply just for one or two of them. That's ignoring what might happen if they land.” Foric admitted while giving a small chuckle, “Seems if you threaten their young they tend to get really mean.”

“So this is the last one?” Magia said while snipping the last one from Foric, “Oh my, this one is a nasty monster. A more loner creature, these fured monsters tend to with claws and rend others appart. Its not too fast, but tends to slaughter its enemies to pieces. It has many children but many of them tend not to survive thanks to harsh conditions. The only good thing about it is that it eats both meat and plants.”

It was the morning after that Foric finally started making his moves. Since Dragon Scale Mountains were so close he was able to move his way towards them without much of an issue.

Next to him were a series of men all prepared to help their King in capturing the beasts. Looking over Foric could say he was kinda happy to get the help.

The beasts had arranged themselves in a a large herd, all grazing on the nearby grass and trees. They were close to the size of Foric, with strong backs that might be able to support them.

“So what do you want us to do my Liege?” One of the men asked as they came to Foric’s side.

“Do you know what's among them?” Foric asked as he kept an eye upon them all.

“They have three calfs, six adults.” The man said before pointing towards the largest of them all, “And that there is the leader.”

“So they will always follow him?” Foric asked as he gave a nod.

“Yup, as the leader of the pack they will even follow him off a cliff.”

“Where are the calfs?” Foric asked as he looked over the crowd.

“Likely in the center of the herd, you know, to protect them from any predators.” The fellow admitted as he kept an eye on them.

“Would we ever get a chance at them?”

“Maybe if these fellows go for a drink. That would be the time to get a calf and run with it.”

“Tell your fellows to stay back.” Foric told the trapper as he started to leave his position, “I’ve got this one.”

Before the other man could say anything, Foric leaped out of the forest and made his way towards the herd. Just as they said before the beasts did not quickly run away from him, instead some of them gave glances and stared at Foric to see what he would do.

He could only guess they were making sure he was not after their calves.

With a few more steps forward he was face to face with the alpha of the pack. The creature did not seem that put off by Foric’s presence. Actually it seemed more determined to challenge Foric in whatever he was going to do to it.

Knowing the first move was going to be his Foric swiftly ran at the beast and threw himself on top of it. With a roar the monster he was on started to buck and strike out at Foric with forces he had never felt in his lifetime.

Kicking and baming, the two of them fought. Foric tried his best to stay on its back as the creature used its forces to try and throw him into the sky.

For the beast, it did not succeed in throwing the High King into the sky. Instead the beast threw Foric off its back and onto the ground below. Quickly Foric dashed out of the way before the beast came by and attempted to gore Foric.

The stage was now set. The herd of Ragoos did not take this chance to flee but instead spectated on what was about to happen. Foric’s men watched in baited breath as they were thinking that they might accidently kill the king himself.

The Ragoo Foric was facing huffed as its horns were thrown from side to side. It was obvious that it was preparing for a fight. However that little scuffle they had was enough to get it to start breathing heavily.

As for Foric, well, he was starting to like this beast.

Within moments of their eyes meeting once more the beast charged at Foric. The creature who was close to monsterous tried its best to lodge a complaint right into the King’s side. However the King was skilled enough to dodge the attack and leave his internals unscaved from the vicious horns.

In the time they started the round robin of sorts, Foric used the chance to take out a large and thick piece of rope. Said strands were made of the best thread his kingdom could create! He was quite confident he could get this bastard steed in it.

The Ragoo turned and once more went at Foric, the King taking the chance to try and wrap the creature within his rope. He however missed the neck and instead got his rope upon the being’s horns. With a pull he tried to get the rope back. THanks to both the creature’s speeds and the strength of Foric both of them were thrown to the ground for that moment.

The two quickly got up. Foric staring down the leading Ragoo with his lasso back in his hands. He could feel his hands burn as the two of them took the breather they needed.

The beast however, unlike the man, felt its entire life threatened. And with that thought they charged towards him with a ferocity of anger and reckless abandon.

Foric did not know he needed this moment, but it was the one he was waiting for. With the beast charging him he was able to guide the lasso and get it right onto the neck of the vicious creature. However even as he pulled he could not bring the creature down or to heel. He was strong enough to keep it from getting away from him though.

Stuck with a noose around its neck, the beast quickly went for a last charge against Foric. Whatever Foric did now, well, it needs to be a big move.

“Alright you bastard!” Foric called out as he yanked the rope, “You are going to be mine!”

With a leap the King sent himself onto the back of the creature, the rope giving him that much needed security to keep himself upon it for those first few bucks. It gave a few more before stomping its foot upon the ground and sending it forward into the rocks.

Not only it moved, but quickly the entire herd followed its leader into the barren rocks of Dragon Scale Mountain.

Foric of course was not expecting something like this.

No, he was not.

Within moments they were flying through the Mountains, and Foric meant flying, as they went from one cliffside to another. The speeds they were flying through them too were quite unreal against the mountain. He never thought something like this was possible!

Still this was reality, a reality where the Ragoo were trying to wear him down enough that the High King would fall to death! Foric however would not succumb to such a thing and tried his best to bring it under his dominion!

With every step it took he could feel its strength slipping. Its will to not fall to Foric’s strength becoming more and more. Against him though the creature kept taking him higher and higher upon the mountain. Already he could feel the ice start to form upon the edges of his muscles.

They were approaching the clouds, Foric digging his heels into the creature’s sides as he realized he was about to do something no other man had ever done before.

The first thing he noticed was how bright the sun was above him. Below the creature’s hooves were probably feet of snow that would crash into the valleys at some point in their existence. Numerous mountain tops dotted the horizon as Foric was able to take a moment top try and breath the cold air.

As for the Beast, it had finally given. Upon seeing the light of the sun it went to a steady walk as it realized it had lost. Behind it, a herd of its fellow beasts came up to meet its leader and bask in the sun.

It was then that the sound finally reached Foric’s ears. The steady beating of wings coming into his ear. He looked to where the sun was, and he saw a massive creature of size he never thought possible. Its skin was not fur but scales with its wings being rough leather.

A Dragon. A creature from the race that killed the First High King.

Foric could tell the beast underneath him was anxious upon the sight of this monster. It was the top predator of this mountain and was the main hunter of the Ragoo. It tried to make its way back towards the rest of the Ragoo, to gain a number’s advantage against the dreadful beast.

However Foric had a bone to pick with it. While this might not be the beast that killed his grandfather, Foric knew it was definitely one of its kind.

Seeing the Ragoo staying away from the herd the Dragon began to move closer. Its mawl gapping open, it released a torrent of fire upon the two. Foric felt pain like no other, but the feeling of strength was within his muscles as the fur from the Ragoo made it resistant to the flames of a Dragon.

Satisfied with its shock attack, the Dragon gave a beat of the wings and threw itself towards the two of them with the speeds Foric only just recently knew existed.

The Ragoo wanted to flee the moment the creature came sweeping down upon them. However Foric expected this, and with the skill unknown to mankind he caused the Ragoo below him to narrowly dodge the strike. With Fortage in hand as well, the High King reaped a strike against its lower leg.

The blade cut through the flesh of the beast like butter. Blood of the beast came raining through the air to cover Foric’s bladed arm with a deathly sting.

It was then that the Dragon let out another roar. It did not come back for a second round however. Maybe this was because it could get easier prey that would not fight back. Maybe it just did not like getting stabbed by Foric’s blade.

Either way the Dragon was gone within only a minute. In only a minute the skies were empty except for Foric’s new steeds. He could not help but notice the Ragoo he was riding was not only splattered with pieces of the Dragon’s blood, but had since accepted the dominion of the High King.

Ragoos were intelligent beasts. Seeing its rider fight off its most dangerous predator, well, it could not help but follow what it perceived as both the new leader and vanguard of its race.

Leadership established, the King led these beasts down to the lands below the mountains. To where once they had predators, now man ruled supreme.

Time went by, and Foric had busy himself with the taming of other herds of Ragoo. Though this time he actually just let his own beast do the dominating, for whenever his beast took over they were able to easily move the beasts towards the lands of man.

However that was not today, no today was something a little bit more special. Both himself and Magia on the back of his steed, the two of them ascended green cliffs that dotted the edge of Dragon Scale Mountain and found a nice place for the two of them to stop and have a meal.

“You can see everything from here.” Magia said as she looked over the edge and into the lands of man, “I can even see the Academy and the Bastion of Man from here.”

“Thats why I brought you here, these Ragoo seem to know the best places to graze.” Foric answered her as he got a small satchel filled with foodstuff, “You want to start the fire?”

“I can, its not terribly hard.” Magia got out a small bundle of sticks and took out golden plate that was the size of a shield. She said some words that Foric could not understand, but the entire golden shield glowed of runes and ignited a fire.

“How long did it take you to create that spell?” Foric asked as he got out some meat.

“I knew the spell from Leric, however the platform here has taken me nearly three years to develop. I got started on it right when you told me about how the Dwarfs use their runecraft.”

“It worked well, the meat won’t take much longer.” Foric announced while preparing the stakes of meat, “Its been three years, huh.”

“Well you and I have both been really busy since then.” She said while giving a gaze deep into Foric’s eyes, “I with my magic and you with ruling all that is humanity. Can I ask you, why would you not just go for a simple lass who you could marry and have a dozen children with?”

The man took in a breath, basking in just the moment’s presence as the two of them gazed into the other’s heart. A small chuckle came from Foric as he was indeed the one placed on the spot. Indeed he would have had many more heirs and maybe a stronger holding for his future children, but the King also knew one other thing.

“Magia, I know you are smart, no, brilliant. A person like you is capable even to the most layman from the fields of the Kingdom.” Foric began as he brought her in, “I shall lead mankind, and of course there will be times that I make a mistake. I know someone like you would pick up after me and make sure the Kingdom succeeds.”

Foric took her by the shoulder and made a gesture with his hands, “And of course, I want you to be the mother of my children. I’m thinking… five?”

“So I am worth my weight in gold, is that what you are saying?” She said with a small chuckle.

“You’re giving me words here!” Foric cheered while quickly giving her a kiss, “I should need to do all this myself.”

“You are correct.” She said before tapping him on the chest, “Why don’t I make you work in other ways?”

“There is one I can think of.” Foric said while taking her hands into his chest, “Would you be my wife?”

“Did you really need to ask that?” She asked back with a joking smile.

“Of course I did, I am seeking your permission of course.”

“Well no duh dummy.” She quickly went in and gave Foric the longest kiss of his life. The two if them feeling their hearts elate right as she broke away from him, “Yes.”

And with that, the night went onwards. The two of course had a good time, and within only a day it was known that they were joined in marriage. It was during this time the first prince would be born.

A few years went by as Foric sat upon his throne. He was reaching his thirties now as he looked out to see the people working to and from. It was times like this that Foric kinda wished he moved out of the Dwarven halls and maybe to someplace high up into the sky. It might not be as safe as he was down here, but what else was he going to do?

“Is there anyone else I need to speak to today?” Foric asked the Dwarf to his right.

“None, though we need to talk about your child.” Hev said with a small chuckle.

“Who, Daedric?”

“Aye, the boy is quite rambunctious and caused a small problem in the stables. He was fighting one of the livestock with a wooden sword yelling that he shall slay the beast.”

“Is this a problem?” Foric asked as he looked behind Hev to see the Culprit running towards them.

“I cannot really say. However I- Oh Daedric!” Hev stepped out of the way for the child to run up.

“Papa!” He yelled while jumping up and giving Foric a hug on his leg, “Can I sit on your lap!”

“Sure you can, here we were just talking about you.” Foric announced while lifting the child and giving him a proper seat, “Since Daedric is here, Hev, would you get to the point?”

“Of course, you see, the Dwarven Academy has gotten some more Dwarfs and even some Humans to train the next generation. Instead of just everyone learning the same things, you can have everyone learn different facets of Rulership.”

“I do want my boy to get the best of the best. When I am gone it will of course be up to him to lead the Kingdom.”

“Indeed he will be.” Hev gave a small cough as he started to write down a few things, “That will be it for today, but here in the next week I have noticed quite a few events are coming up on your schedule.”

“What kind of events?” Foric raised a brow to the Dwarf’s odd choice of words.

“It seems that Duke Bale has passed away a few days ago, though I never got the reason for his death.” The Dwarf admitted as he shook his head, “Currently he is being succeeded by his young boy Butch Bales. Poor child is right out of the womb.”

“So hes about sixteen?”

“Indeed he is.” The Dwarf admitted while hitting another item, “Next to that many are seeking your word in law. One of them seems to involve the Academy of Magic if I am reading this correctly.”

“Well that will be something we need to take care of.” Foric agreed while shaking his head.

“Indeed, and while there was no formal address I did want to mention to you one other thing.” Hev said while putting away the paper, “I have heard in rumor that you Uncle, the Western King, has died with your Cousin assuming the throne. It might be a good time to go visit him upon his day of coronation.”

Butch Bales just got in the position of Duke some days ago, better if we go to the coronation. After that we pay a visit to Bales and ask what happened to his father, and see if we can help him to assume his new role. Also, we still have that Spymaster that our father make, right? Maybe we can find out what happened to the deceased Duke Bales from him or something

The travel over was nothing too hard on Foric, doubly so because he had an actual for of transport to get over there. Upon the back of his Ragoo, Byk, the two of them were able to cross the mountains in only a day instead of the normal week it would have taken on foot.

When Foric made it to the other side of the walls he saw villages and towns similar to his own, however something about them seemed different. Maybe it was because the amount of farm fields seemed lower, or maybe it was because the people were not dressed for the coldness that always plagued Foric’s lands.

It was an odd feeling. It was as if he was walking into a different people, a different kind of mankind.

It took him a few days after that to arrive. The entire way over of course was littered with people looking at him with a confused glance. He held his form of rulership in the form of his sword, but sans that many of the people knew he was an outsider.

When he arrived at the gates of the castle, the same ones his own father passed through, a pair of guards looked over him, “Can I ask what is your purpose here?”

“I am here to see the new King, and to of course seek my rightful Homage.” Foric answered the man with a firmness in his voice, “Now let me pass.”

The two guards talked to eachother for a moment before the other nodded and spoke, “Oliver here will head in and alert the King of your arrival, High King. I will say he is currently holding court so I ask that you stay out here for a while.”

“Do you think it wise to keep me out here, Guard?” Foric asked with a small hint of anger in his voice.

“Even if you are our liege’s liege, to interrupt now would hurt the Young boy’s growing reign. We will try our best to make sure you do not wait long.”

“Sure, I can wait.” Foric said to the guards, “But be quick about it, understood?”

“We understand sir.” The guard went into the doors to alert the King of Foric’s arrival.

A few minutes went by as Foric turned over to the other knight, “So, what the hells been happening?”

The Guard looked towards Foric with confusion, “What do you mean?”

“Why do you all not have many farms? Why do you wear lighter clothing? Why do things seem so different over here?”

The man Foric was talking to thought to himself for a moment. It was a hard moment of thought before the man just shrugged, “I can’t really say man. Lighter clothing feels more comfortable?”

Foric looked at the man for another moment, however that moment passed as the doors that were keeping Foric out opened up. There stood the guard with his own support group, “Sir High King, if you would want to come in.”

Foric gave a nod before walking forward into the room. The place was elegant, not nearly as elegant as Foric’s throne but it was probably better than any of his Dukes. Upon the throne sat a man looking to be a few years younger than Foric with a small firmness in his presence.

“My Liege, High King Foric, it is a pleasure to meet you.” The man said with a salesman's smile, “It must have taken you a while to arrive here.”

Foric shook his head, “I have my ways of getting here quite fast. Already I have started taming the beasts of the mountain. They are great explorers of said range.”

“Oh, the Ragoo? I never thought I would hear of that.” His fellow King said honestly.

A very good question
>>
“I must ask, Rathar,” Foric spoke the name of the King before him, “What has happened here? Why is everyone acting so different?”

His fellow man furrowed his brows as he looked upon Foric, “I do not know, can you be more specific?”

“Your people wear different clothes and the fields are not filled with wheat.” Foric announced as he waved about the place, “Your tapestries are not made from animal hide but furs of other beasts. They look upon me, the High King of Man, as if I am a foreigner within my own lands.”

“Hold that moment, Lord Foric.” The King said as he leaned forward, “These lands are mine, as they were gifted to my Father by Alaric himself. You might be the High King of Man, but I am the King of the West.”

“You have not answered my question, Rathar, what happened to our people?”

The man was more confused than anything else as he leaned back into his chair, “I do not know what could possibly be wrong with my people, High King. We wear lighter clothes because the chill from the mountains does not reach here. We make our tapestries out of wool because the beasts are scarce within these lands. We do not fill our fields with wheat because we feast upon bushes that give us berries. Are all of these problems?”

Foric looked at the man again, knowing about the times his father talked about the corruption that plagued the elves. Was this really corruption, or maybe it was…

“You come here to my Kingdom wearing not a crown to signify your reign but an age’s old sword upon your belt. You come upon the back of a beast none of us thought capable of being conquered. Even from here I can smell the whiffs of Dwarven Ale upon your breath. Do not mock me about my way of life!”

It was at this moment that Foric realized what had happened, something that even his own father, no, grandfather thought possible. Like Foric’s realm to that of the Tribals up north, the same has happened here in the west. They think, eat, and dress so differently that they are no longer the same people.

It was at this moment a word formed, and it was used to describe this situation. The Culture of Man had split along lines of the mountain.

>Talk to the King, catch him up on things happening east and learn of his west.
>Simply nod and leave, Foric shall need to accept these changes.

I don t feel like I want to learn from him, this conversation would end badly after the last remarks. Saying old sword when his Fortage own, is already a first class grudge. Not even an exaggeration, the weapon was the tool for make the realm and the stuff of legendary fights. Calling it old sword is like saying it s a rusted exscuse of a blade.

The Kingdoms have difficult contact anyway due to the dangerous dragon mountains and one safe road. It s unlikely they can help eachother like this, or if they want to help in the first place. And this is just between two cousins in the third King reign.

Foric knew this conversation was not working out very well, and it could be blamed on both himself and this King. It was then that he gave a subtle laugh and shook his head.

“Are you alright, my liege?” The man a few years younger than Foric asked, “To laugh in a situation like this is something I did not expect.”

“I laugh because both you and I are fools.” Foric admitted, “To think that you would insult my blade, do you know what it is?”

“I simply know that it is the blade of the High King.”

Foric happily drew his sword balanced it between his hands, “This weapon is known as Fortage, the blade that all of Humanity at one point was united under. It was our Grandfather, High King Alaric, who wielded it like a crown. The way you speak of it, like it is some rusted blade that cannot pierce the skin of our rivals. I do not like it one bit.”

The man before him focused upon the blade, as if his eyes were captivated by its nature. Foric of course was not surprised, for the weapon had a gravitating aura that almost all men were drawn to.

“It seems I have indeed mispoken.” The other King admitted as he finally broke from Fortage’s spell, “It is indeed a sword worthy of the High King, something that I seek to recreate in time.”

“If you had not spoken those words I would have made you regret it.” Foric announced while sheathing the weapon, “Surely your line knows that a slight must be repaid in blood.”

“There is no child of Alaric who would forget that.” Rathar admitted, “Myself included.”

“At least that has not left your mind then.” Foric was thankful to be able to say those words, “I have realised that the Dragon Scale Mountains are a great divide between our people. So much so that we have started to change customs just like the Alaric and the Tribal Chieftains suffered.”

“I can see that too, however is it really that bad?”

“It simply saddens me that I cannot help you all more than I can.” Foric said with an honest set of words.

Perhaps a fortress can be build between the western realm and the one of man, as well improvements on the road and maybe finding new paths in the mountains.
The problem for this fortress is that is still on those mountains. If a dragon comes down on it, it will burn.

“My fellow King,” Foric began as he looked about the room, “We are going to need some privacy for what I am about to tell you. Can you give that to us?”

Rathar looked at Foric quizzically for a moment, before making a motion with his hand. Reluctant as they seem the guards did what was requested of them and left the scene.

Foric took a few glances around, “Are they truly gone? Those who are spying are the one I do not want to hear about this the most.”

“You heard him men. Leave us be.

The two of them waited a moment, listening for anything more to happen as they prepared themselves for what was about to happen. Rathar did not know, but he trusted his fellow King whose words have started to become heavy with something.

It was at this point Foric nodded with satisfaction, “Have you ever heard of Corruption? Where entire cities would be consumed in shades of darkness and turned into the breeding pit of monsters?”

Rathar shook his head, “I have not, Foric. The closest that has happened is that monsters would pull themselves out of the sea to attack my coastal city. They did not last long against my warriors. Did this happen to one of yours?”

“Indeed, this is different then.” Foric reached back into his memories, “It was not a human city but a City of Elves.”

“Elves exist?” Rathar said with a raised brow, “Those had only been at most baseless of rumors.”

“I can see why you would think that, they are real. Isolated upon the southern cost past the tail of the Dragon Scale Mountains they are. They do not care for us and we do not care for them.” Foric admitted while continuing, “A blessed people they are, yet they were turned into a monsterous being equal to the one our Grandfather was forced to batter away.”

“How powerful was this monster?”

“I personally believe the one my Father fought was a youngling. When it matures it is capable of destroying the Capital Fortress of the Great Dwarven Empire.”

“It is something to watch out for then.”

“Indeed, be wary of things that seem too good to be true and sinful.”

"Returning to what divides us, the mountains, i think it could be wise if we make a fortress between them, as well improving the road it self both in safety and size. We could also send some groups of expert hunters for finds new paths, but i have my doubts anyone would take the offer for such a job, even if well compensated and equipped."
"With this fortress completed, communication between us should be easier and safer, perhaps even allowing our family to unite together for feasting time to time. No doubts though, the fortress it self need to able to stand attacks against beasts like dragons and their fire. It also needs weaponry capable of bringing them down to the ground, so that men can kill them with spears, maces, axes and hammers instead of just bows and arrows. Having a few mages would be wise too, for slow them and make their flames weaker or deviate from our warriors."

“With that in mind, Rathar, I think it would be a good idea for us to open a fortress within the mountains.” Foric announced with a smirk upon his face, “Surely it would allow our Kingdoms to talk to one another if it is built.”

“Do you not fear the Dragons, surely they will not allow such a thing built.” The other King wisely pointed out.

“There is no harm in trying, with our mages and enough material it is surely possible.” Foric announced with a smirk, “It shall be a bastion that can face off against their agressions and might even be able to fell the beasts if they decide on a direct attack against us.”

“I can see about it, however I feel that you are seeking something else as well.” Rathar said with a small bit of awareness in his eyes.

“You are correct, I also wish to confirm the Homage your Father had given to mine. We are both new men, thus such a thing is needed.”

There seemed to be a wariness in the man’s eyes as he looked at Foric, “Indeed you are right, however we have lost both money and men whenever we would send it.”

“Men? I take it they were lost to the mountains?”

“Indeed, there is no true path through them. We have lost countless to the ever expanding presence of those beasts. And even if it makes it to you not even a dollar comes here for it is nearly impossible to send men and money over. Only a Miracle worker like Alaric was capable of that.”

“So what is it you are seeking?”

“I wish for us both to be on equal standing, as we are Kings separated by the great mountains. And with it we shall do a joint venture to create the bridge between ourselves through this fortress. If not, well, I will pay you your money and call it a day.”

Foric should have saw it coming, but it also makes sense. He was his Lord but Foric was indeed powerless to protect their realm if anything was to happen. Maybe with the Fortess he could, but who knows if he can build it alone. Hell, they were their own people now and would separate even with intervention.

“Alright, you can have your standing.” Foric said while extending out his hand, “But you must help me complete the Fortress. If it is not finished then it shall be all for not.”

“Then upon my own honor, and that of every man who shall rule after me, we shall have that damned Fortress built.” King Rathar said while extending his hand, “And we shall forever pay respects to the Sword that leads Mankind, even as we determine our own destiny.”

“I, amd my Children, will hold you to those words. There must be a way to achieve this, even if we need to level the mountains and kill every single Dragon upon them.”

Happily the King gave a bow, “Now that I am playing host to a fellow King, I should host you a small feast would you not agree?”

“Of course, let us drink the night away!” Foric announced with a laugh, “To the Future of Mankind I say!”

“To the Future of Man!”

With that a short night of drunken revelry was enjoyed by both sides. And while Foric left the Western realm the King began to assemble and strengthen his holdings. During this time it abled him to become the De’jur ruler of the place, making the reign of their family much longer than it ever could be.

Time went by for Foric, however he did not age as fast as other people had. It seems he might be lucky and live to see many more years than his Father.
