It's the year 29XX, and Humanity has taken to the stars. Conglomerates span across the galaxy, with thousands of worlds becoming home to mankind. But even in this wondrous space-age, technology still has a long way to go. Numerous megacorps have managed to patent technological Singularities that would dazzle the minds of modern man with their inner workings. However, some codes have yet to be cracked: Such as the secrets to creating life from scratch.

Until now, obviously.

Your sponsors have been generous. Several groups are watching your project closely, and it's the only reason that the company has been able to afford to integrate other Singularities into your systems. The small lab that you're working from is easily worth Trillions of credits, and it's hidden deep within a barren sector. If you can succeed and please your sponsors, [NEMEAN LABS] will be able to patent their technology and become the holder of one of the legendary Singularities of Humanity. What a wonder it would be, to be able to craft and customise life from nothing but building blocks. The Human Race would move even closer to becoming true Gods of the Universe.

Heya! Welcome to my Evogame. For those who haven't played before, there's a couple bits of info for this sort of quest:

What's an Evogame?

> An Evogame is a style of game on /qst/ where a few starter creatures are given, and anons make edits to the drawing to represent them changing and gaining traits as the generations go by. It's a sort of Spectulative Evolution/Biology game. The starters are generic enough for you to decide on their internal organs, bones, reproductive methods, etc.

> Evogames typically have events over time to spice them up, like new environmental stimuli, mass extinctions, and other things to shake up and influence how creatures evolve.

For those who play these regularly, it's just the standard fare.

> Don't evolve your own creatures/submissions. It's meant to be a collaborative game. Don't evolve the same creature too many times in a row either, try to mix it up a bit.

> Give a little description when you make a new evo, so that we know what the change is meant to be.

> Don't make the change huge, or too abrupt when posting. I reserve the right to veto a species if it suddenly does something too bizarre, like randomly developing psionics or fire-breathing in a single generation.

> Save as a .png, and please try to make Evos that people can work on. If a species is absolutely beautifully drawn, but nobody can add anything to it because of complexity, it's likely to go extinct.

Ah, and thematic rules for this particular game:

> Stimulus can be somewhat decided by the player. If you write in your post that 'X creature has evolved this way as a result of Y stimulus', it's fine to take it as your scientist-insert putting it in a situation where that happens.

> Instead of extinction, there's 'archival'. Functionally the same, but Nemean labs just takes the creature's bio-blueprint, as well as a sample, and saves it permanently in statis/the database. I'm thinking I'll do rolls, but there'll also be one vote per IP, represented as the player's scientist-insert saying 'Yeah this is my favourite, I want them to live on'.

> Corporations will give 'Quests', where they request a type of creature for a certain purpose. Unlike other evogames, you're encouraged in these cases to specifically direct creatures to evolve, rather than having their evolution be completely natural. Try not to go overboard other times though. Finishing Quests in a satisfactory manner will result in highly positive events taking place.

> The Corps would prefer their watermark/logo on the beasts for branding purposes. But feel free to change/mutate the symbols over time, so it's not a sore-thumb in the middle of the design. It doesn't affect anything.

Fittingly, your workspace is the wet little planet of 'Canvas II'. It's an ocean world that was... Acquired by one of your sponsors. An entire, literal planet sits within a containment field. Also integrated into the cage is tech from a second company, that allows millions of years to pass in a single 8-10 workday. Singularities truly are amazing. Canvas II is a watery planet, with no landmasses that life could crawl onto. At least, not yet. Further terraforming is possible from outside the field, but doing so would be difficult without enough money. Some parts of the ocean are shallower than others, and plentiful light streaks down from above. Further out to sea, there are deep abysses that extend towards the planet's core, with geothermal vents within. The planet is on a 12-hour light cycle at the moment, and rotates at a constant rate.

Canvas II is barren of life, save for the five organisms you're about to integrate into it. They've been crafted through a method that none of you project-workers are even vaguely aware of. They're life created from essentially nothing, though you know for sure that they're still made of cells.

The first organism is the Wipplast. It swims with the little limbs on its rear half, vacuuming up free-floating biological matter. The sponsors were also insistent on giving it the ability to photosynthesise, so it contains the equivalent of chloroplasts despite being an animal. The ones sponsoring it are The Grovetenders- A huge union of farmers across worlds that're responsible for providing most of the non-synthesised food to colonies. They produce real fruits, vegetables, and meat, that just can't be beat by crappy nutrient paste. They tend to send large caravans across planets to deliver food, and they could really use some specialised beasts of burdens, or specially bred livestock.

Second is the omnivorous Flillone. They're small swimmers who dance through the water in beautiful arcs, using their fins. They possess extremely simple eyes, and eat anything they can find using the somewhat solid beak. Their sponsors are Ad Infinitum- A Tech company that's responsible for a ton of inventions and quality-of-life tech among the inner worlds. They delve into ancient Alien Precursor ruins a lot, and many of their inventions have been inspired by the artifacts they find. Some CEOS might want to privately commission creatures for personal interest, while others are looking for creatures that help them in their excavations or practical fieldwork.

The final animal is the Cazzor. These predators are the largest creature on the planet at the moment, and hunt the other two for sustenance. They paddle with their limbs, and are a bit slower than the others in a free-swimming contest, so usually resort to ambushes from above and below. They sense through smell, mainly. Sponsoring these guys are the Deadshot Wardogs- A PMC who are basically an army-for-hire. They have a reputation for being brutally quick and efficient in their missions, and are the go-to pick for security needs and armed conflicts. They're looking to supplement their forces with specially bred creatures of war, and have taken an interest in your research.

Of course, no ecosystem can survive without plants. The two plants are unbranded, and just created in the same way as the organisms for the sake of filling a niche. They're not as imaginative as the animals either, both being analogues to things you'd find on any old planet. The first is the Gelgae, a tiny organism that's made of goop and turns sunlight into biological matter that other animals can eat. They bud off once large enough, and their reproduction is supercharged. These things tend to float by the surface to soak up light.

The second plant is the Sweed. It's comprised of a stalk, roots, and a thin leaf that soaks up sunlight in the clear, bright shallows. They reproduce by growing leaves, that break off and float around once mature. However, when drifting about in search of substrate, these leaves are often eaten by creatures who would otherwise be unable to chew off portions of the plant for lack of teeth.

And with that, we're ready to begin! I'll make a starting Evo as an example to new people. For now, there's just the ocean, shallows, and deeper sea to play around with. After some evos, I'll begin doing events!

Example Evo:

The Wipplast develops a thinner, more hydrodynamic body to swim faster. Its back becomes somewhat concave, to maintain the same surface area despite the decrease in size. Longer flagella also help it to swim better.

The Cazzor taps into a dormant DNA cache left by sloppy Wardogs engineering to grow jaggerded bone-javelin in its lower jaw which it uses as teeth to its prey.

A stray mutation, over generations, causes the fins of some Fillones to be slightly split. With separate segments, they've been able to steer better and avoid predation, leading to the increased success of this branch. Finally, their bodies reshape slightly, forming the musculature to properly control the split fins.

As Sweeds overproduce nturients, they store them in bulbs they keep on top of their stems. These bulbs are kept structurally intact by minerals which the Sweed filters out of the ground and uses it to bond them into small, hard and crunchy balls.

Gelgae started to form 2 to 3 member groups.
These groups form when a Gelgae fails to perfectly separate from its offspring.
No inner bodily functions are influenced, only the top layer of their skins are somewhat stuck together.
This bonding is so weak in fact, that its unable to support more than 3 members and can also break down when exposed to larger waves.
Leaving a group does not affect to individual Gelgaes health, per se.
However, staying in such a squads is beneficial to the Gelgae as it makes it (oh so slightly) more resistant to being driven under by water currents where theres less sun light, and from where floating to the top again takes precious time.

Some of these Cazzors develop the habit of bounding across the ocean floor with stronger legs, instead of trying to chase down prey in open waters. Naturally, the ones that are a less vivid shade of red are the more successful ones. They camp out by Sweeds, especially the nutrient-rich ones, waiting for hungry prey to approach.

Occasionally, these bulbs get loose and split off along with shedding leaves. As these new masses aren't as light as leaves, they don't end up floating to the surface, where Wipplasts can get at them. Instead, the leaves catch the current and are dispelled across the seafloor. The leaves even get a head-start from the nutrient-pockets that they're attached to.

As Cazzors mainly attack from above or below, vertical movement becomes critically important in the Flillones.
The tinner ones have better survivability, but theres no way for their organs to grow smaller without losing functionality, so their body also elongates.

A different branch of Gelgae form. They store waste products in the outermost layer, and the foul waste is slowly diffused into the ocean. This has the benefit of forming a layer of mucus outside the cell wall, making in unpalatable to herbivores. When enough of them congregate together, filter-feeders who eat them en-masse typically end up spitting the whole bunch out.

Cazzors thrive under the current favorable conditions.
At the beginnings they have been smelling with just their mouths, but slowly they have grown a dedicated body part for it, further down.
By now it has become so big that its clearly visible to anyone to see.
Taking in smell rich water through their mouths used to be a problem, as it meant that they could not locate and attack the prey at the same time, because doing so would mean a critical speed loss.
But now, with a hole at the end of their "nostrils" where water can leave without much counterforce they can swim with an open mouth almost as fast as otherwise.
They are also generally larger.

Yeah that's the gist of it. When a quest starts, and there's a goal to create a certain type of creature, that's when anons can take on an active role as a researcher and push a creature towards a certain result. Usually, everyone is a sort of scientist.

NEW ASSIGNMENT!

The first assignment comes in, from Ad Infinitum. The deadline for this is 72 hours from now!

A CEO wants an 'aquarium centerpiece' for his party. He wants a population of creatures who would look exotic enough to stand out in a large tank- Living art. Though he's a self-professed aquarium enthusiast, he's specified that he doesn't care how short-lived the creatures are, so long as they can be used to impress people for that exhibition.

You can use any of the creatures for this purpose. It can be from the other sponsors, it's not limited to just the ones corresponding to the company.

The Suffering Cazzor was a slap dash attempt at satisfiying the requirements, derived from the current Cazzor mainline variant.

A brilliant yellow fin serves as a centerpeice of the creature, while their frantic dancing is in fact end stage death spasms. They live quick, incredibly quick. Within a 24 hour period an egg hatches, matures, breeds, and dies. An unstable metabolism only ramps up in speed as the creature ages, and by their advanced age of 18 hours their body is unable to digest and intake caloric requirements needed to sustain it's life and they starve to death.

There is a popular game of seeing who can break 24 hours.

Some fillones opt to turn horizontal instead, and take to the surface instead of bottom. Their speed is increased substantially. They develop the rather menacing habit of snipping at Wipplast limbs and fins >>4967378 using their beaks, but aren't resorting to outright predation just yet.

The Sailplast develops larger sails that they use to soak up light and heat with. This increased source of food leads to them growing larger, and they tend to stick in groups so that Cazzors are less inclined to attack.

In response to the assignment, the Hornzor loses its mobility and repurposes its nostril-jets as water filters. They consume algae, microorganisms and dirt from the water, spewing out clear and clean H2O. Thus, although they are not all that pretty, they can serve as natural water cleaners to set up in the aquarium without the need for unseemly electronics.

Sometimes a male Sailplast gets "lucky", it can manage to hump a female Wipplast.
The process will always end with the Sailplast getting killed in painful manner, however as the two subspecies are biologically very similar, they produce a viable off spring.
The Toxic Sailplast lives a lonely, territorial life near the bottom, mostly spent with photosynthesizing.
It only socializes when its time to mate, praying mantis style.
Its color has become darker so it make better use of sunlight in the depths.
As the size is dependent on the females genes, Toxic Sailplasts are way smaller than normal Sailplasts.

Who else but Ad Infinitum would adjust a competitor's product? They would!

The Hornzor's signature feature was gracefully adjusted into a lance like spike, but it was not enough. A signature calling card was integrated into it's DNA. The blue hue of the flagship product line "Flillone" was incorporated, with a nice genetic flourish of a fin tail. A bit of excess, and to be fair it did eat into the creature's intelligence a touch, but the spectacle, oh the outrage. At last the Deadshot Wardog's maker mark was defaced and transformed into the Ad Infintium logo, at least a close approximation.

Attempts to fully remove the genetic markers of the Deadshot Wardogs consistently resulted in sterile, deformed, or dead products. It would seem the sponsors have ensured their investments will not be unknown.

Flillone shurikens have developed calcified edges to their fins, third party tampering is suspected.

A shurkien can swim end over end, or in a tight drilling spiral by compressing water as it squeezes it's fins towards it's body.

Gelgae are reaching substential sizes. They form a thin layer on top of the water obsicuring light from whatever seeks it from under.
Its hard to say how big the largest one is currently, since telling where one ends and the other starts is very difficult.
What can be safely stated is, that theres several meter wide ones in existence right now, and nothing limits thier further expansion at the moment.

as attacks come both from above and below why not eliminate one of these.

the flat filillone or the flatillione swims just above the sediment keeping its eye pointed up up looking for any shadows or moving shapes above to avoid with its eye.
it has two modes of behavior when fleeing it swims with the eye first, when slowly scavenging on the sea floor it moves mouth first slowly scanning the environment for any danger and food

The Cazzap develops simple eyes that sense rapid motion. They use these in tandem with their electric shocks. After all, it's dangerous to approach a Poison Wipplast before it's fully dead. Being able to notice when they stop thrashing makes it much safer to approach.

Their tails also get a bit bigger, storing food due to increased success in predation.

Some Wipplasts decide to face their maws upwards and wait for food to drop from above. They take to using their limbs to walk on the floor of shallows instead.

Environment update!

The presence of certain creatures have resulted in portions of the world becoming distinct ecosystems.

At the very top, by the surface, huge mats of >>4969901 Gelgae form patches that block light from reaching below. While this has the effect of creating deadzones in the seafloor far below, the huge masses are zones where life is plentiful. Wipplasts swim about to catch algae that drops from above, or peels off from the mats. And predators surround these large herds to take bites. A species of >>4968981 crossbreeds has unified the two branching paths of Wipplast evolution as well.

The open ocean in the middle has a large variety of creatures. Speed is most important in these parts, as there's no hiding spots in open water. Free-swimming organisms are plentiful, as well as stragglers who peel off from the other layers.

At the bottom, the massive, sedentary >>4968797 Circulators suck up biological matter from the sand, and release fresh water. Their droppings contain salt-pellets, that the other plant species such as >>4968366 >>4967276 Razor and Rock Sweed can grow around. There are also bottom feeders, or animals who travel on the sand and use their limbs to move across the only solid surface in the world.

A highly successful branch of Sweed turns out to be a strain that struggles to properly reproduce. Their leaves are bound together with stronger connective fibres, so offspring-leaves have to grow far larger before they can split off. By the time they're ready to break away, they've produced plenty of food for the parent plant, and are often as big as the entire main body of other Sweed species. These titans form towering pillars around their lesser cousins.

This breed of gelgae develops rapidly-oscilating flagella. They also open up gaps in their cell wall, where the cytoplasm can push itself outwards to feed on even smaller gelgae.

Each major faction declined to comment about enhanced plantlife; independent reports show no key "signature" markers. It can only be speculated who did what, needless to say these are not emergent evolutions.

from top to bottom:

A strain of rock sweed releases a fruit that can explode when it's internal payload reacts with seawater. The offset is that this only happens once in their lifecycle and is how seeds are distributed, fertilized in the flesh of a victim. Once embedded the seeds will parasitize the host into a husk which sinks to the sea floor and begins the process anew.

Zweed is a living piezo capacitor, the oceanic currents gradually storing a charge in it's broad leaves that can kill would be predators.

Blade Sweed has a limited reflex movement when disturbed, slashing with a large primary leaf; while imposing it is arguably the most benign of the three in it's predictable nature.

The Flatillione becomes a bit flatter, with speckled skin that blends in with grains. It develops two 'pouches' of sorts, that it stores sand in. When they have to blast-off and flee eye-first, they expel the sand and form a little cloud to dazzle predators with.

Due to the decreased sunlight some Finplasts have decreased in size while developing a needle like protrusion they use to penetrate the membrane of Waste Gel without tasting it, allowing them to suck up the "flesh"

The time has almost come! Canvas II now has quite a bit of biodiversity, both naturally formed, and spawned for the purpose of this assignment. In a couple hours, you and the other researchers will be extracting samples of several species. It’s quite the process to specifically abduct individuals off the surface of a miniaturized planet.

The Singularity holders assure you that it’s quite safe, but plenty are still afraid that one wrong move will cause the planet to implode. Or worse, break free of the field and return to normal size, which would obviously kill everyone here.

Tiebreaking, in this case, with votes of my own.

The party is a smashing success, and the CEO is very happy with the product. The Rainbow Fillones spend the evening dancing around in the darkened tank, beautifully avoiding the predators that lunge from below. They're like scintillating matadors who constantly dart away from charging bulls. More than a few partygoers notice the perverted Deadshot logo, and are very much entertained by it.

However, Billionaires are flippant men. Once the party is over, he's satisfied with the creatures, and soon loses interest. They've served their purpose, and the aquarium is left for housekeeping staff to take care of, with little care for its internal stability.

On the bright side, he's given Nemean Labs a grant! It's enough to pay for the next thing on the checklist, in terms of terraforming the planet:

Land! Solid land! With this money, the Lab is able to raise continents from the sea, and finally develop a new zone for life to move onto.

Additionally, in preparation for landfall, many of the creatures have been archived. It would be a waste to have them go extinct, after all the investment. As such, samples of the failing lineages are kept in deep storage, and maybe someday in the future, they can be reintroduced. Either way, they're soon to be absent from Canvas II.

Land is raised! These continents are almost completely flat, and currently lack the proper topography a real world would have. They're vast plains, with only the beaches able to support life at the moment. Anything going too far inland would suffer from the lack of resources. At least, until life fills the gap.

You guys will likely be able to afford more terraforming after doing another assignment. The Grovetenders have one lined up next, but haven't committed to any requests yet.

An early tranche of modified and unmodified organisms quickly populated the coastal regions of the planet, the boom of life had begun.

top:
Saw gelge seems to be a natural development, with it's mucous shell developing hardened prongs as strands of material get further away from the simple organism. It will frequently get inside larger organisms and transform from a passive life of photosynthesis to an active life of parasitism once it embeds into the mucous membranes or soft flesh of it's host. Large drifts of the gelge wash up as foam along the coastline.

mid:
This organism seems to develop fat reserves now, and makes it a potent food source for filter feeders. Large volumes of the creature wash up onto the beaches and begin rotting, creating a disguising banquet for the local plant life, and any creature brave enough to harvest the bounty.

Bottom:
Overtly modified, Blade Sweed and Zweed were combined for obvious synergies. The metallic foil reinforces the plant, allowing it to grow taller and outcompete potential rivals. Meanwhile the electric shock serves to kill predators and add rich nutrients to it's soil.

this half new organism is a experimental project. we succesfully made this organism into two differing sexes.
the female is the base version with little to no modification.

The larger ones are less likely to face predation. They slurp up vast quantities of prey, and use their toxic barbs to ward off Cazzors. A quick flicking motion can send the spikes stabbing into the bodies of predators and rivals alike. All the disgusting breeds of Gelgae are integrated into their venom.

Some of the Gelgae mats wash up onto shore, naturally. The ones that aren't broken up by the impact sometimes manage to cling to the sand and survive on the beaches. If they're washed too far inland, the sunlight dries them out and they die, unfortunately, but for now, they're able to live as composite organisms by the shallow sands.

Some of the Flattlionealfs begin pushing themselves upright. These ones are waited on by the males. Younger specimens are repelled and rejected from fusion until they've done their part to catch food and collect nutrients for the female. Once the male has proven its worth and survived for long enough, it's allowed to join its body to her and become part of the gene-pool.

With no obvious meddling from the scientists or their sponsors, these creatures seem to be adapting in an organic fashion to the constraints of their environment. That they are all of the grove tenders is likely a small coincidence. Fascinating.

The deadshot wardogs could never be accused of subtlety. Where their competitors had used guile or artistry, a few well placed genes served to fill a niche that was absent. What looked like a game of oneupsmanship was a deliberate effort to enhance environmental stress, hopefully creating some evolutionary accelerationism.

Presently the corporate sponsors were growing disinterested with the project, funding was slowing, and at best the biofuel outlooks of the planet would be booming due to significant algae growth and rotting biomass. That said, the market for that was marginal at best, and the barest metric for success. The real reward was in biotech and it's many fields; medicine, industry, transport....weapons.

top to bottom:

The "Rot Plow" was named after it's ability to use a shovel like head to plow through rotting biomass with it's head, in search of fresher prey. Carrion was eaten, but as a last resort. The spines allowed it to burrow into the rot and shred it's way through as needed; while it's electrical nature largely mitigated the danger of the Zweed.

The trilobal "Zway" was little more than a cuttlefish and electric eel. Water went in it's maw, and sprayed out the tail section while three fins provided control. Schools of the minor predators began hunting the oceans and shores.

The Hornzor itself was in a bit of a tug of war now, as the Deadshot Wardogs usurped the design, and relocated the water jet to the "foot" of the creature, allowing it to hover and repel away quickly. Able to make short forays onto land, with stored water it could strike and jump away; though this strategy often saw failure due to the inability to repeat the move without nearby water sources. It is also a bit of a stupid creature.

The circulator continues the thematic use of pumpjets, but instead of flexible tissue, it is covered in a semi calcified carapace with numerous fixed jets. A solo predator, it hunts the largest organisms with an inherant immunity to poison based on it's prior filter feeding lifestyle.

Ad Infinitum was still fresh off a creative streak thanks to their last major victory regarding the aquarium competition. They had noted each other group had a few pet projects. After seeing the rest, they would show the best.

top to bottom:

Flilone Shurikens are tweaked ever so slightly to handle brief forays onto the beach, rolling along like little wheels. In the water their fin protrusions serve to enable elaborate mating dances and territorial combat.

AiBerries are exactly like their progenitor, but completely toxic to all life forms...which are not branded by Ad Infinitum. Their very presence will kill local vegetation, but nourish the blue creatures.

Flatilones are granted a grotesque amount of muscle to their mouth/ pincher, enabling them to crush foes or food with ease. They are also a favored prey item of other creatures due to their meaty tail.

Flatiloleafs are sporting a slow moving but useful tail which can grab onto the stalks of plants, enabling them to more easily anchor and relocate as needed. The tail is actually a modified intestine, but that is gross and weird...and largely unoriginal.

Ai~lge is a 100% domestic organism and not an artificial construct. It is ruthlessly parasitic to any non AI creature which spends too much time on it, the molecular saw edge works as the flagellum spin the microorganism. Multicellular, each "tooth" can be broken off to spawn a whole new Ai~lge.

I think I'm going to have to veto the Ai~lge, as there isn't really a way to have an existing creature adapted specifically into such a form and function. AiBerries are fine since all the starting creatures did have a genetic 'watermark' in their DNA, and it's indeed possible to differentiate original lineage. Others are great though!

NEW ASSIGNMENT!

The Deadshot Wardogs have held off from requesting anything yet. Progress updates have shown them that life is still young on Canvas II. There's nothing big enough to be a worthy weapon just yet.

Instead, the Grovetenders send in their task. It'll be due 72 hours from now!

They've been considerate enough to request something possible. One of their colony-worlds is in the process of seeding an ocean world. They've dumped bacteria and seed-organisms into the waters already, but would like more genetic variance. As such, they want Nemean Labs to provide them a set of organisms. Ideally, these organisms should 'cultivate' the ecosystem; some sort of lifeform that naturally takes care of the environment and achieves equilibrium with it, in order to get food. It should form the groundwork of an ecosystem on a barren planet.

As with before, you're not limited to creatures from the Wipplast lineage. While the three Corps have put their genetic markers into the creatures, they don't own the whole tree of life that sprouted from them.

The Wire Sweed flatten themselves against the ground. It's a big counterproductive in terms of getting light, but having moved to the shallows, sunlight is far easier to gain access to.

Their charge forms minefields across the sands, especially for creatures who walk on the shallow seafloor. Anything touches them gets zapped, allowing them to feed on the decomposing corpses.

The eye walker's downward-facing fins allow them to rest on the seafloor while being able to make fine adjustments. This saves them quite a bit of energy compared to their ancient ancestors, who had to freely float everywhere.

This branch has developed a thin layer of mucus, so that it can wander out of the sea and walk for short periods without its eye drying out. Unfortunately, this makes its vision far worse. Due to refraction of light, its vision is altered when using this coat, and everything it looks at is displaced by just a little bit.

The circulator separates its lip into two portions. One segment forms a sort of cup, keeping it adhered to solid surfaces like a pseudo-foot. The rest of the mouth eats as per normal. When it wants to travel to a far-off region, it closes its mouth and expels water to travel. They've gone from predators to slow-moving filter-feeders.

Using their flattened bodies, these Flatilliones shovel sand aside and bury themselves with only the mouths sticking out. This allows them to stay in the wet surf at low tide, and they burrow out of the ground when the water recedes. Using this method, they're able to eat to their hearts' content while predators are absent.

Using exces water sucked in for the purpose for traveling the Suckolator creates a thin layer of slime to prevent it's body from drying out during brief stints on land which it also leaves a trail of. With some minor changes the excreted slime now also serves as their feces" due it containing of their foods after having gone through the digestive system. Before land was raised, those areas were shallows. Now, the shallows are the waters immediately adjacent to land.

There's very little height topography for land. It's all flat and gets less sandy, more dirt-y deeper in. No mountains, no rivers YET.

the a heavily modified version of the cazray, kind of a small multi purpose organism.
morphologicaly theres two eyecatching feature on it.
the first is the mouth which was elongated and fused together which is now basicaly a suction tube.its small "electric leather teeths" modified into sensory organs which could still capable of electrocuting very small organisms .
the second is that large hump on the back which is a storage for nutrients and fat.
the creature feeds on algae and their main purpose in life is to prevent algal blossomung in lakes and shallows. of course being a new colony we tought about commercial uses for it thats why the hump exists they are small nutrient bombs anly chop of the head and fins and eat it whole.
their sensory organs make unintentional calls for the members of the species either to gather somewhere or but its main purpouse is to watch out for threats. however it can be tricked by electric devices

The Flatillione has been tampered with, it's pincers now sharpened into tools of carnage and their secondary fins massively engorged into powerful detritus-digging claws. Not to imply that the new Flatilone feeds on debris though; it preys exclusively on the beach's blue-tinted inhabitants. It's body has dimmed in color, presumably to prevent it from being eaten by it's own kind, although this tragically causes it's company logo to be nearly illegible(but just legible enough not to trigger rapid degeneration)

Odd behaviour has emerged among the Red Twistlone. Their signals tend to take on a uniform red shade, instead of the rainbow array they once had. Over time, the longer-lived ones have survived by eating the eggs of their brethren as soon as they're born. These aggressive creatures seem to chase after other members of their species, interrupting breeding, eating eggs, and assaulting their rival subspecies. Only the colour red seems to dissuade them.

While the Corps themselves aren't present within the lab, they're influential enough that some researchers might be inclined to alter environmental stimuli according to their wishes. Perhaps for a hefty bonus behind their superiors' backs. This seems to be one such change, for this behaviour is certainly unnatural.

The fin on top of the Toxic Sailplast splits in two. The resulting cup can carry a colony of algae the creature can feed off of in low light conditions with its elongated mouth tentacles. Consequentially, this also spreads the algae around.
This creature is dubbed the Bonzai Sailplast by researchers.

The mouths of the landbound Wipplasts were already on their way downwards. These ones have them in the centre of their bodies, allowing them to scoop up food as they crawl over it.

The back legs of this creature are far stronger than the front, since they've been present for a longer time. Tiny calcified spurs are used to cut and scrape at beach rot, to reduce it to bite-sized pieces.

Ad Infinitum, being a dominant player in the optometry industry, have pressed for a modification to the eye walker. This new species, the goldeneye, has an eyeball capable of extreme focus by stretching and crushing the lense with huge, bulging muscles.

Experimental data from this animal is hoped to be of use in the bioupgrade field, laying the foundations for organic transplants to individuals who would find it difficult to integrate mechanical enhancements, eg. for security reasons.

However, the eyeball will wear under the intense strain and lose strength. Here we see another of AI's innovations: the expended eye will eventually detach from the socket and be replaced by another, which is grown in the body cavity.

A Grovetender stockbuyer has quietly expressed interest in this line of research, due to a recent trend in cafe culture, a subsociety which has grown gradually more distinct and bizarre. This fashion is for a sort of "bubble tea" made with chilled eyeballs, often filled with some kind of syrup or ganache. The Grovetenders have, it seems, been exploring various methods of oculoculture and will be keeping their eye on developments.

The red twistlone continues to become bigger and redder, giving as clear a single as possible to its fellows that it is a friendly creature.

Its fins become so big and red, in fact, that pigment scarcity and mutation causes blotches to become a lighter, creamier colour.

Jokes have been going around the lab about how the creatures look like a few slices of sashimi ready to be plucked apart and put straight onto a plate, the blood-hued meat complete with an illusory marbling of fat.

A set of Evos. The Zway's fins turn wider and flatter, allowing them to almost fly through the water, along with their propulsion method of swallowing and expelling fluids. Not only do they become more adept at utilising electricity, they also grow better at sensing it, to take note of other electrical creatures.

Ever since they've started blasting water from their feet to travel, the lighter, skinner ones have found more success. With less body mass, they've been able to get around much easier.

In a new species, the plecaz's aggressive circuitry has become dangerously unstable, reaching into the nervous system. Without being held in check by the brain, the system will fire electricity through the nerves, heating the body quickly.

Wardog officials hope that, in time, the ray's combustive death throes could allow it to function as an exposive or incendiary device. For now, though, on decapitation the plecaz merely cooks itself, frying its own meat in the melting fat of its hump.

Ever adaptable, the Wardogs have also been considering its use as a convenient live ration.

Over time, a school has the potential to develop great genetic variance, with many subspecies all being part of a single colony.

The Hairbutt's hairy butt is actually it's mouth; the whole creature leads a backwards lifestyle, digging tunnels in the soil with it's powerful "back" legs and calcified, beaklike anus. It's other pair of limbs is modified for powerful leaps, allowing it to quickly cross distances between feeding spots.

At this point, it’s clearly a bit deliberate, how the creatures are being shaped. They’re looking more and more like the logo of the Deadshots, with whatever functionality developing as a side effect of the reshaping.

The Flylone use their large fins to zip through the water. While most creatures migrate across regions, these ones instead travel up and down, alternating between the sea floor and surface.

When threatened, they rapidly ascend with their fins, zig-zagging out of the water and bursting into the air. They flap their fins and glide far away from predators while mid-air. If a stray wind catches them, however, it’s possible for them to be tossed about until they suffocate or die from stress.

The Talisman microorganism is something of an opportunist. It can make use of most of the electromagnetic spectrum to execute photosynthesis, though not in any manner as efficient as proper plant. It will also chemically attack other microbes, releasing enzymes that break down lipids and cellulose membranes.

Interestingly, the microbes undergo internal quaternary fission as a means of reproduction. The "parental" microbe gradually swells with cellular machinery which is divvied out amongst the newly forming internal cells which will eventually rupture the parent; its death being their release. In this lifecycle stage, the parental cell also begins storing enzymes which will be used to break down itself, and it is also in this phase that it will attack other organisms. The ensuing loss of total mass is recovered by the successor talismans once the enzymes have neutralized themselves on whatever they will make contact with. Usually a few of the offspring will be destroyed in the process, sometimes all will perish, an sometimes all will survive; however the net result is that the Talisman reproduces much faster than the other microorganisms of this world.

Laboratory testing of it reveals subtle alterations not related to any of the three big development houses.

The Blowzor's basin-tube eventually transforms into a reverse blowhole, that siphons water from above and stores it in a hump. These creatures live in tidepools, where they can sit beneath the surface and wait for creatures to pass by. They pounce using their water jets to catch beachgoers.

Once one has picked a rock outcropping, they always go back to it, even when the tide washes them away. Territorial conflicts are usually caused by other creatures being stranded in their pools, and only one thing will ever leave it alive.

I'd also appreciate adding a little note to future species, regarding their habitat! Let's start diversifying them by environment.

The fins eventually develop into a muscular membrane. These taut flaps contract and relax to control the two halves of the 'wheel', changing its shape or extending the spike in order to break. They require an extremely fine level of motor control to properly travel, and over time, only the most adept will survive.

If portions of the wheel break, it takes a long time to regrow, and the creatures are usually screwed when that happens.

It's not uncommon to see parents rolling about on the beaches with their offspring. Without an adult of their species to teach them, it's difficult to get the hang of spinning.

Mini Event!

The following is an event that will be occurring for the next 72 hours, and will not affect the Grovetenders quest.

The planet's beaches are speckled with corpses. The dead wash up on dry land, where the sun tends to desiccate them. Masses of dead plant matter line the shore, very gradually breaking down.

The wave of carrion provides a feast for carnivores, omnivores, and any creature with a strong stomach. This is also compounded with the fact that there just aren't many decomposers. As the five organisms were built from scratch, the requisite microorganisms to break down decaying matter just aren't present yet.

As such, there's a prime opportunity for a decomposer to grow into the role. Creatures like >>4978805 have a head start.

Microorganisms and Scavengers are thriving at the moment! For this period, Evolutions regarding them may grow a bit more fantastical and drastic in just a single generation, but not anything outside the realm of biological possibility.

Feeding on the large amounts of algea they used to hide in Toxillione have become much bigger in a short amount of time, so big in fact that hiding became a lot harder. they have a new defense mechanism though the toxins from the decaying matter have been stored in easily ruptured growths of their body, meaning that if something tries to eat them it won't have a pleasant experience

The adorable little gardeners are met with success, and the shallows are kept tidy due to their efforts. Eventually, their eyes begin to specialise. The outer layer of the eye begins to change depending on the direction. The downward facing one gets better low-light vision, to better observe the seafloor at nighttime.

They also get a bit bigger, to house their brains. A creature needs to be plenty smart to memorise all the plants.

Back in the labs, opinion is split on the staggering amount of creatures developing anal adaptations. Half the people find it heinous, half of them find it horrifying.

The Hairbutt has developed further. With its calcified anus, it was only a matter of time until it tried chewing food with it, and stuffing carrion in there like a suppository. And over a long stretch, the digestive system of this creature has been heavily revamped.

It no longer has a front or back. Instead, both ends are able to eat food. The hairy baleen-like structure takes in plant matter, and the 'teeth' chew up meat and rot. The digestive system is tubular, and works by peristalsis. The more it eats, the further food is pushed through the system.

Depending on which mouth gets more food, the waste products are pushed out of the other, in the form of a dried pellet. Traces of silicate can be found in these.

The introduction of these small animals helps to improve the condition of the beaches. Plants are kept in the shallows, and even if their guardians end up going missing, they still end up making lush undersea lawns, where other introduced life can live freely.

Wet sand is tossed and turned, aerating it and freeing buried organic material to be returned to the sea. The fertiliser pellets also serve their purpose well, making sure there isn't too much viable biomass just sitting buried in the sand.

And the formation of tidepools creates multiple pockets that life can survive in. The planet doesn't have the benefit of time acceleration, so it's not like the creatures can evolve further, but behavioural adaptations won't take as long to develop. The planet will be in a far better state eventually, now that it has these diminutive workers to cultivate its soil.

The Grovetenders are very pleased. And just like before, the labs have been given a grant! This time, the money will be spent on raising the land into mountains, as well as forming rivers. Soon, creatures will be able to move into brackish water.

Huge environmental update!

Mountains are formed, and rivers and lakes are carved into the world! Some portions of land have also turned into mangroves, where brackish and fresh water mix. Creatures are able to swim inland, upstream, and maybe settle in ponds and the like. The most important change is that life can now be supported deeper inland, for water now runs throughout the continents.

Note: The map isn't indicative of every single river, I'm not able to accurately make a world map's worth of rivers, lakes, and estuaries, so definitely assume there's like, hundreds and thousands of other smaller rivers, creeks, lakes and ponds weaving about inland.

The Living Bread has dedicated most of it's body to a spongy, nutritious tissue, which expands when cooked. To support the creature's increased size and mass, a primitive cartilage system has been developed, with bones carefully placed to minimize difficulty of removal during consumption. Additionally, each bone is made of a conductive material, allowing them to act as extra heaters during cooking.

some bomber plows forcefully evolved into a more grotesque state. the grinder plow is an amphibious creature with many potruding spikes. its frog like face contains many deformed teeth which it uses for "grinding" its prey. the Grinder plow uses its it barbed body to look like some torned meat chunk its elecric system has become a tool of manipulation fr hijacking other creatures sensory organs.
the creature often eats prey equal to its size and doesent hesitate to cannibalize its own kind.

Goldeneyes and Eyewalkers crossbreed. The occasional fertile offspring produces creatures with traits of both parents. The eye now lasts longer due to the lubrication of the mucus. Scientists have modified the creature so that when the eye needs to be replaced, the sweetened mucus drains into the eye which removes the need for syrup in bubble tea.
Sadly, this hole also makes the eye unsuitable for implants.

Mini Event!

While animal biodiversity is huge, the plants aren't doing quite as well. This is probably due to them fulfilling their purpose just fine, and it's certainly possible for life to keep developing in its current state. But this is a project, damn it, and humans are always reluctant to keep their hands off things. After getting the plan approved, the scientists have increased the illumination of the planet! The equators are already the warmest, but they've bathed areas in light to create dedicated tropics and hotspots, rather than spreading light out evenly.

This increased light provides more food and energy for lifeforms who are able to photosynthesise, including Gelgae, Sweed, and the Wipplast line.

Plants and photosynthetic creatures are thriving! They can grow larger each generation, and are able to develop wackier adaptations and changes in singular generations.

their leaves become sharped. On the top of the plant theres a giant seed which contains many smaller seed. when the time has come the seed broke off and raft on the waves for 2 weeks until it reaches its destination and cracks open releasing dozens of small seeds to start a new colony

The Wire Zweedfruit continue sucking up bodily fluids. Eventually, these nutrients have a tendency to clump together in horrid pustules. These storage bulbs are filled with high amounts of iron, protein, and minerals, to the point where a Carnivore could majorly supplement its diet by eating these.

Some Grinder Plow make a habit of wandering a bit further upstream, into the brackish waters between the empty rivers and open sea. They use these areas to give birth to young, as it's devoid of predators at the moment. The parents make forays further inland, or out to sea, in order to obtain food for the young.

Gazer olow is a larger version of the grinder who burrows itself in the sand waiting for its prey to come by its eyes are on the top of its head. the body is much flatter and the spiky flaps are lowered down to. it has a small bait vaguely resembling a flatillonid. it has grown claws for digging and the lower jaws teeth has become larger.

The Bladesweed has adapted to the rapid currents of rivers by streamlining itself into a single narrow blade, pointed along the river's flow. It's reproductive behavior has also been overhauled: the Sweed now buds new bodies off of it's far-reaching roots. When it's spawn comes of age, the Bladesweed turns 90 degrees and converts it's blade into a makeshift sail, carrying it along the waters with minimal energy expenditure. basically there now stationary eye has a constant field of view and saving on the muscles needed to operate them and the internal space, the fierce competition of detritus and plants has forced them to grow smaller as they now feed on the crumbs of other detritivores, as smaller individuals require less food to stay alive or reproduce and the fact that most if not all predators just by closing there mouth displaces enough water to send these tiny fellas twirling in the currents being a advantage.

NEW ASSIGNMENT!

Finally, it's time for the Deadshot Wardogs to give their assignment. In the long run, they want some kind of hulking war beast, but they're well aware than in terms of evolutionary life, the planet isn't quite there yet. There's no dinosaurs or anything like that. And so, they decide to go for something that's more of a hobbyist request.

The request is due in 72 hours!

The Deadshots would like a series of creatures who they can pit against each other. Some of them have discovered the concept of beetle-fights while on a colony, and interest in the hobby has spiked among their ranks. They'd like to procure some animals who can put on some sort of spectacle, and battle each other. Not necessarily to the death, but enough to be interesting. Kinda like a rooster or dog fight. There's no animal cruelty laws in space.

They also don't want them to be too big to handle by hand, and the three submitted organisms have to be in a similar size range. Bonus if they're of different colors.

the echocazz is an open sea predator its electric organs location is modified. now all electro receptors reside in a tumour like growth on its head. its uses said growth to locate prey in wast distances ( aproximately 1,2 km ) and extreme close range capable of electrocute smaller prey. its only backside is that infant mortality is high because the tumour is unstable ( hastened forced evolution methods) so they basicaly die early in basicaly electric cancer.

diference between this and its predeccessor in the anatomical viewpint is small. the main difference is that on every limbs end there is a long hooked vein. this vein is heavily modified for trapping prey. because its small hooks any creature that bump into it will inevitably got tangled. if the prey is small enough the main body will swim closer to enwelop it and the digestion got started. if the prey is too large the vein tentacles going throug a rapid cell degradation and sever themselves somewhere, same goes for the unedible parts that still tangled in the veins after digestion. with the veins the animals full lenght is colossal (by this ecosystems standard) reachiing 42 centimetres yet the main body is still the size of its predeccessor.

the main goal with this species is to conquer the abyss. populations forced through harsh alterations. their bodies became smaller and more gellatineous, their bodies lost around 90% of pigments, their eyes fitted for abyssal darkness their sight become "selective". the main foodsource of theese creatures are bacteria living around the hydrothermic vents of the deep. they skulk around the warm vents and occassionaly migrate towards another vent. In case to prevent overpopulations they can tolerate the cold as long as they crawl between vents. if overpopulation occurs they dont hesitate to feed on each other but its rare because the excess population most likely freeze to death because they are to far from the source of heat.

The Vent gelgae is a neccesary addition for life in the bottom of the ocean. they are incapable of doin photosyntesis so we modified them to feed on any kind of sulfur. they are mainly found around hydrothermic vents where they form small colonies with other Vent gelgaes.

by inverting how the hardened surface grows they gain a support structure while losing mobility this structure makes the plant become difficult to clip away from the bottom with the hardened rod making it difficult for any current creature to sever its anchor.
not really that well anchored but due to the suction cup shaped anchor and any mechanical motion from the sides with water attach it extremely well to hard surfaces that would brace against the internal support when stepped on and preventing the rare digging disturbance from sending it floating away from the light of the sun and not float away into the deep dark of the deep where it will perish.
it grows from the bottom up creating new fold as it grows to increase surface area from all direction.
it continues its fragmentary reproduction as usual but while free floating the fragments will be growing a new foot and flex what little motility it has at a sufficiently hard surface to anchor themselves and grow into a adult before its anchor cup hardens with the support material.
its reproduction is now unaware to the plant caused by larger creatures stepping or swimming onto its spike ripping off bits instead of being consumed resulting in a greater number of surviving fragments
