Your name is (Whatever your name is), and some way or another, you've discovered the egg of a digital creature! If you choose to accept it, it'll become your duty to raise the little creature within, attend to its needs, and raise it into a prime adult specimen. And eventually, you'll be able to take it to the GRAND TOURNAMENT, and pit it against the champions that other Anons have raised. But be warned! Taking care of a virtual pet is a bit of a time commitment. Treat it well, and it'll grow up just fine. But neglect it too much, and it may evolve sloppy, or even die of starvation or disease.

Heya. Welcome to Virtual Pet Quest. This is a quest based on the process of raising a Tamagotchi, Digimon, or some other kind of virtual pet. Rather than raising one communal creature, I'll open it up to only a small group, and you can get your own personalised creature. I can't take too many players, because I'll be making sprites, events, evolutions, and all that, so maybe the most I could do is 8 players. Basically, once the egg hatches, you guys will be able to interact with your little creature, feed it, keep it healthy, etc. Over time, it'll need food or cleaning, and I'll post in the thread with such updates.

>Rules & How it works:
-Use a secure Tripcode (Name##Password) to mark yourself as the owner of your pet.

-I'm in GMT +8 time zone, so active hours will be relative to a waking day in that time zone. Relevant since you'll need to report in to clean and feed your creature. Leaving it unattended for 9 hours after the post will count as a care mistake for the creature, which will have negative effects. So you might get screwed over just because of time zones and sleep.

-Your pet will eventually develop a sort of personality, depending on your treatment of it. It'll evolve further, go on adventures and be able to battle others through a dice system that I'm still working out.

-I'm still working out the system as I go, so I'm sorry if things get sloppy or take a while.

>How to begin:
Get the egg sprite. Use the 32x32 resolution version, and draw on it. Your etchings will determine the appearance of your starting creature. Furthermore, choose a single word (Like 'Fire', 'Dragon', 'Plant', 'Astronaut', 'Boxer') to add on to the description. Please don't draw on the big version, upscale the 32x32 after to make it easier to see. And don't choose a word that's too weird to make something reasonable. I'm gonna be working hard on making passable sprites and pixel art, so I don't want to have to come up with something for a creature whose prompt is 'anus' or something.

I'll then provide your creature, and you can change your name to fit it or something. The creatures will get a random type: Vaccine, Virus, or Data, which are strong against each other in left-to-right order.

Helmsbuck has hatched! This Data type digital creature forms armour from trace metal data in the environment. They coat their little bodies with it, and have a bad habit of overestimating their own durability. They have justice-filled hearts, and aspire to fight evil. Unfortunately, they're Data types, and not well-suited to slaying Virus-type digiforms.

And as with all newborns, Helmsbuck is Hungry and requires immediate feeding! Just check in with an acknowledgement to feed it.

Hope you enjoy your little friend. I'll finish the Guitar one before coming up with activities.

This egg has musical data and waveforms within it. However, a mistake has been made in the formation of its egg. Such a process is the most common way of Viral creatures forming. In this case, the uploading of the image as a .jpg has corrupted the incubating creature.

Strumling has hatched! Fortunately, despite being a Viral type and having an incompatible egg format, the theme was coherent and clear enough to bring it back into solidity.

These Viral creatures thrash about by riversides, making loud noises that scare away prospective predators. They wear their emotions on their sleeve, and the waveform atop their head is constantly fluctuating with their mood.

Strumling is Hungry! Same deal, lemme know what he'll be fed regularly.

Due to the disruption of the Digital lifeform's birth-term, the less obvious definition of it has been chosen, rather than the affinity with Wind that might have spawned prior.

It results in Clocktick! This creature has a hole in its abdomen, that a brass key fits into. It has to constantly turn this key to remain in motion, and if it loses it, it flies into a panic.

As a Vaccine-type entity, it consumes Viral data and keeps Data organisms safe. The feelers on its head slowly rotate along with the turning of its key, and when it makes a complete round, it marks that it's ready to evolve.

You know the drill, check in to feed the baby. It's hungry.

While Virus types (such as Strumling) tend to be wild and aggressive, Doracle is calm and composed. One could almost call it noble. It's said that when its fringe falls over its eye, it can see several minutes into the future, and read the destiny of those around it. It can keep calm in a battle, since it's able to predict when it's about to win. On the other hand, however, it flies into a panic if it sees that it's going to lose, and gets sloppy in its blind attempt to fix it.

Speaking of which, the hungry creature reads the future and sees that it's going to be fed. Right? Right?

The little fella is appreciative of the headpat. Watch the horn when petting, though! Chicken seems like just the thing for a meat-eater. It seems like the food has gone right through it, though. Soon enough, it makes a mess!

>>4981528
A diet of grass seems decent enough for a herbivorous creature. As the oldest creature, Helmsbuck is starting to exercise on its own, and is leaping around the ranch. While punching and kicking, it ends up smashing a bush. The creature looks guilty after the accidental feat of strength.

Perfect! The little fella slurps up the digital fish, breaking them apart into unstable fragments. However, its waste from earlier >>4981635 hasn't been cleaned up after a short period. It's still well within an acceptable range to leave it be, and it won't count as neglect for a while longer. However, that time has been enough for the creature to start... playing with it. It's making a huge mess, mucking up the water and smearing it across the ground. Letting this continue might spark a behavioural issue, but being too harsh in scolding it might send a bad message as well. It's up to you to find a middle ground.

At first, the aggressive Strumling is hesitant to eat pasta. It ends up enjoying the taste, though! As a naturally harsh creature, this diet might help temper its aggression.

And speaking of aggression, it's currently blaring its chords and vocalizing in the water. This is natural behaviour, but is a bit of a bother to the other creatures and owners.

>>4981737
..whoops, too late. I give it a gentle scolding for playing with it's own mess, then clean up the poop from Ikado's habitat, then clean Ikado itself.

If I can, I will give it a more interesting toy to play with (a ball? a leaf? really, anything...) and stay with Ikado until the next time in needs to poop... and then see if I can train it in a litterbox, or even just to avoid a repeat. If it does well, it will get a crab!
>>
>>4981745
Yep, that's possible.

>>4981762
Clocktick's mechanism eventually stalls, and you're quite sure that twisting it further will damage it. When you release it, however, the creature goes into overdrive. It zips around in laps, its speed doubling the whole time.

Once it's over, however, it collapses onto the ground and begins twitching. Seems like doing this will tire it out severely.

Unique Ability!
Clocktick may be wound up before battles, which gives it increased Attack, but has a 33% chance of lingering aftereffects.

Babies require food. And it’s not long before the creatures are [b]hungry[/b] again! Every creature starts making noise around the same time, chirping or squeaking while requesting food.

IKADO, STRUMLING and STRATHAWK also poop, leaving a bit of a mess.

Now that you guys have child-level Digital creatures, the wild lands outside of the ranch are open to you. So long as your creature isn’t in need of feeding, medicine, or cleaning, you may go out and adventure! Quests like this will provide opportunities for your creature to develop its personality further, and gain strength, but have a risk of injury.

There’s also rumor of Cryptocurrency buried in this beach, from an old pirate creature. Plenty of activities to do here! Different activities will imbue your creatures with certain traits, and the things you do will influence their evolution and personality. For example, Strathawk might have become stronger, but more callous if allowed to keep disemboweling things. And Ikado has become more disciplined, but a bit more afraid of scoldings.

Vibrations shudder up the length of the digital wood, sending voxels and leaf particles flying. The apple drops down.

Ooh, this looks like a rather expensive, but frail fruit. You’ve unlocked an EVOLUTION ITEM. You may hold on to it and integrate it into a creature’s evolution once the time comes, to put a sort of theme into it. This one provides a chrome, futuristic aesthetic, but tends to be a glass cannon.

You may trade and sell such items between yourselves, and make deals with other anons. It’s also possible to find evolution items that change future attributes.

Helmsbuck is getting tired, but has learned quite a bit today! He’s good for one more activity before getting exhausted.

As shown before, Ikado is a playful sort, and enjoys the tactile sensation of using its flippers to bat things about. It seems to want to play in the sand, and is enjoying tossing clouds of sand into the air. It’s not very friendly behavior for playing with other pets, but he’s having a good time.

As for fruit hunting, you’re able to gather up the same sort of local fruits. Instead of the apple, however, Clocktick seems to take notice of something else. It leads you towards a sort of clearing in the forest. The air is rather still, and in the middle of a glade sits a large bulb. Traces of crackling static are present in the air around it. It definitely seems virus-affiliated.

With its sharp vision, Strathawk is adept at searching. It takes off into the sky for a brief moment, gliding over the sands and checking out the terrain. When it returns to you, it screeches and guides you towards a spot, where you can begin digging!

From the air, this spot certainly looks like an X, with the marking being made from parts of the natural environment. Your pet has managed to apply its innate skills, and gotten better at searching! It’s a bit worn out and [HUNGRY], requiring feeding, but is satisfied at having gotten some money for the two of you.

Both is valid, yeah. The two of you inch forward. Your little friend winds up the key on his back, and then prepares to lunge at the bulb if it does anything suspicious. He seems grateful that you’ve come down with him, and is ready to guard you if anything goes wrong. You’re able to get up close to it without anything bad happening.

When you’re within three feet of it, however, the bulb unfurls all of a sudden. Clocktick panics and raises his limbs, scuttling backwards and trying to drag you away. Within the bulb is some kind of strange, spasming mass. It looks like corrupted data, half-formed and ready to be spat out into the forest…

Unfortunately, you’re in the digital world and can’t really go out and get it.

It’s rugged and rocky, and the sun shines brightly on the two of you. It’s a good day to be out in nature. You two could embark on training, adventure, or things of the sort. And I've come up with the battle mechanics!

Battle mechanics:

There are three stats:
Attack
Defence
Hp

Creatures have: 1 atk 1 def 2 hp by default.

Defense is a shield that prevents your HP from being lowered, and each successful attack busts through 1 defence point

On turns, you attack your opponent and try to beat their defense roll. Defending is different from having a defense stat.

Attack- Roll 1d4+atk
Defend- Roll 1d6

A coin is flipped to see who goes first, and each creature gets to attack a number of times equal to their atk, at the end of which, the battle ends.

Winner priority:
Whoever doesn’t have 0hp
Higher HP
If same HP, Higher Hp percentage

Virus gains +1 attack against Data, Data gains +1 hp against Vaccine, Vaccine gains +1 defence against Virus.

Each of you guys get 2 stat points to put into your stats, so reply and lemme know what your pet will spec into!

It has been roughly 48 hours since their hatching, and the two oldest pets have both gone through quite a bit.

For Helmsbuck, he's been taught to control his strength, and to take accountability for his actions. He has developed into a disciplined youth, who prides himself in martial ability and the power of his armour and body.

Strumling is wild and aggressive. One might find him a bit uncontrollable, but he certainly knows how to get his way and express himself. He's loud and proud, and an excellent fighter.

The wild Strumling has evolved! Its waveform splits into three, and it can maintain three separate chords of sound at once. The organ on its nose allows it to blast out piercing sonic bursts. Its body is well-suited for swimming, and it excels in amphibious terrain. This evolution is very much a completely natural progression, and hasn't been stunted in any way.

Helmsbuck, meanwhile, has grown his horns in. The introduction of the Apple Firmware has altered his evolution! Cybernetic parts adorn his body, integrated deeply into his systems. Portions of his armour plating have been replaced by white chrome, and most notably, a helmet obscures his little face.

Combat-wise, he's able to carry out a speedy analysis of enemies, and strikes with brass knuckles and chrome-tipped boots.

The two of them are [Hungry] after evolving, so perhaps they could benefit from some tasty foraged clams.

As the next two oldest, Ikado and Strathawk are next in line. Both have been fed and maintained for 48 hours, have been taught certain things, and have gone on adventures, so they're ready to evolve! Just as soon as I get the sprites.
>>
Let's go to the Data Cove, to search for material, cryptocurrency and fight
>>
>>4983848
Vespray, during your attempt to make a sort of nest for her, shows off some of her natural skills! She pulps a tree and starts using the bark to form a nest. It's slow, and will take a while, but she's adept at making natural shelter. You also notice a bit of a swarm forming around her, of strange glitches in the digital world.

Special skill!
When reduced to 0 HP, Vespray isn't instantly defeated. Instead, she summons a typeless, 1hp, 1atk 'swarm' creature, which replaces her and resumes combat. This creature is used for calculations at the end of combat, to determine a winner.

>>4983993
Doracle has been on an adventure a bit too recently, and is still tired out. You may bring him on a quest, but there's a chance of 1/3 chance of exhaustion setting in per activity, which counts as a Care Mistake (permanent penalty for evolutions, etc).

Two more contenders come in, to join the clam buffet.

>>4983580

First, STRATHAWK has evolved! It now has larger wings, and is capable of constant flight unlike its previous stage. From the search it did, it develops golden eyes that can pinpoint weak points from vast distances away.

From looking at past records of the species, however, your pet is slightly different. A normal Strathawk gets a bit sharper than this when it evolves. Longer claws, a savage beak, and unbridled cruelty. But you've tempered that vicious streak through raising it a certain way. It's less physically imposing, but more intelligent, and less prone to making mistakes due to any innate sadism. If you continue down this route, you'll continue getting a creature that's different from the baseline. Or if you prefer the sound of the other path, you could change your raising style.

Ikado is chaotic, rather than violent. You've allowed it to exercise a bit of a creative streak, so its developed as a creature that uses multiple tentacles to slap and grapple foes. It's quite physically affectionate too! Despite being a Virus type, he's quite kind, and has learned the importance of sharing and altruism. It's also an evolution that's quite different from the baseline, due to its treatment.

While out exploring with Blipbloop, you two find an area in the woods that seems... Corrupted, in a way. Huge chunks of the terrain are missing. The mushroom caches are probably in the area. They're just as rare as the real mushrooms, and someone has already found one today, so you'll be having a bit of trouble. You'll need to watch your step, since you can't hover unlike your pet.

Five minutes later, it happens again.

And again.

Cya!

Most of the creatures can sleep on the ground, and prefer to. But as with Digimon, even vaguely humanoid creatures are... Weird. They still prefer to sleep on things like pet beds, and even Angemon shits on the floor. As such, Doracle is satisfied with just an old bed, that he can curl up on.

Btw, adventures are open once again! For those who went yesterday, that is. Here are the areas again. Activities will have changed.

The fans are powered by some sort of hardware deep beneath the mountain, and it's inaccessible at the moment. But the two of you are able to ride the currents and use them safely, after some experimentation. The fans send you and Pokeog up onto a clifftop, where you're able to look out at the mountains! A new day dawns right as you reach, and Pokeog takes a moment to appreciate the scenery.

>>4984325
As the two of you go out hunting, you hear a sudden gunshot. A branch collapses from above, nearly hitting you. Blipbloop fizzles out of existence for a moment, and right before the branch hits you, it goes flying off into the distance. Blipbloop emerges from within it, having possessed the object for a moment. It gives you a thumbs up, before turning to face the attacker.

Standing there among the mushrooms is a large, bug-like creature, holding a... is that a gun? It is! It's straight out just a gun.

The four of you head to Ram Ravine through one of the local P2P teleporters. Immediately, you're spawned at the base of a vast, dark ravine. You can see ruins in the distance, from a failed colony. You and Clocktick head to the ruins. There were clear attempts at starting up a civilisation once. But from the scorch marks on the buildings, and the gouges on the stone textures, it looks like dragons besieged the settlements. Clocktick looks down to see a CD crushed underfoot. The two of you come across a region where the surroundings almost look like glass. It looks like it's been attacked by heat so overwhelming that it was...

Burned to CD.

Anyway, there's a definite possibility that something useful was converted into a disc. Might have been data from an old creature, physical belongings, maybe even... Parts of a human. But anyway, time to roll a 1d6 to search!

There's also something that looks like a temple! As you approach, a stream of data streaks past in the current. Ikado latches on to it and pulls it free, revealing a little informational blurb!

It seems like this area was once aboveground, and prayed to a Digital God of the sea- one of the System Admins of old. But when they got sloppy with their prayers and offerings, their blessings were revoked. And when they committed a grave sin against it, the God sunk this whole region into the sea.

The temple and ships in the area ought to have something good. Roll a 1d6 to search!

In the midst of the ruins, you find a disc drive that's warm to the touch. It definitely has some sort of info inside it. It looks like it contains Heat data! Using this as an [Evolutionary Item] would give a creature a fiery palette, and likely grant them a sort of elemental affinity. It seems like the flames of a dying Dragon was imbued into this disc sometime during that ancient battle.

Apart from that, Clocktick is sorta messing around in the ruins. He's curious about everything, and seems to be underestimating his new strength. He keeps on pushing over statues and flicking stone railings, sending bits and pieces flying into the distance.

Clocktick has a bit of a stiff, mechanical nature. He doesn't fully understand the subtle implications of disrespecting ancient ruins, of flinging shit around, but he does get that you don't want him to be making such a mess. And as such, he puts the statues back up without complaint!

The next step is to construct a camp. It takes a while to find trees, or any materials that can easily be moved around. But Clocktick is strong enough to do the heavy lifting. You two are able to set up a camp that the other creatures and explorers can stay at, to make their time in the Ravine a bit easier.

Where's the camp?

Very sorry for the post fuckup. Replied to the wrong creature, and thus made a scenario that wasn't appropriate to its personality.

Shiftshard is a little bit tired from the battle yesterday. The two of you head into the mines to do some bitcoin mining, which is definitely the most classic way to get Cryptocurrency. You split blockchains with your clickaxe and get the cash out from within.

Halfway through, you notice that Shiftshard has gone missing! You manage to go deeper into the mines, where you see her hovering in front of some bat-like creatures. She's giggling mischievously and reflecting light at them, causing them to shy away and fly deeper into the cave.

Special skill unlocked!
Combat analysis- Helmsbuck can choose to lose 1 ATK, but becomes able to use 1d6+(DEF/2) instead of 1d6 to defend.

You gotta roll that attack on your turn, instead of the dice roll you made (Which would have been 1d4+2), but you may choose to activate this ability at the start of the battle. Will you do it?

Also rolling Winvern's defence.
>>
>>4985160
Clocktick watches as you open the area to everyone. He's definitely noted the altruism. The two of you busy yourselves setting the safehouse out, marking it with the symbol of the communal ranch, so that every explorer can use it. After a while, the area is complete, and secured!

Finally, before you exit, you two do one more sweep of the worn-down house. You do find some old Cryptocurrency! One million units in a drive! Unfortunately, that particular one has depreciated majorly in recent years, so it's only worth 2 at the moment. Oh well, it's something for your good deed.
>>
>>4985158
This disc - would be very useful for you, Ikado. We should investigate if we could salvage it.

First, we look around the temple to see if there are any inscriptions that suggest how this disc might be released, and how contact in the past was maintained with the being(s) this temple was made to honour. We wouldn't want to offend this being if it might be observing.

if we find something we'll have to consider how to proceed, but if we find nothing we will simply ask. 'Being of the depths, would you object if we took this disc?'

If there is no response to THAT, Ikado will sit himself upon the alter, his tentacles upon the columns. He will carefully take hold of the disk, and then use his tentacles and a jet of water to boost himself and the disc from the alter and out of the temple in one fluid movement.

The temple doesn't have inscriptions referring to the disc. The name of the deity itself is in some archaic coding language, and you can't quite decipher it, but you can at least recognise it whenever it crops up. The disc is an offering, rather than anything attached to the temple.

When you speak, there's no response from the statues or markings in the temple. It doesn't seem to have a security system either, from observation.

And afterwards, Ikado is able to jet away with the disc in his hands! There's no immediate response to the heist, and after a few minutes, you're sure that nothing is coming for you, and the temple isn't about to explode or anything.

Got an AQUA DISC! This evolution item adds on an aquatic theme to a creature upon evolving. If used on a creature that already embodies this attribute, however, it grants them 1 additional HP. It can also be used to reshuffle one's colour scheme to something with ocean hues.

The two of you make the trek to PC Peaks, and wander into the caves. She's excited at first to be out and about, but soon gets tired of the walking and strutting, and begs to be carried at points. There's plenty of old pickaxes you can salvage, and the two of you spend a hard afternoon breaking blockchains apart to harvest the bitcoin within!

Before you're done, however, you hear a clinking sound. Vespray has thrown down the pickaxe. She looks tired, and is currently crossing her arms and stomping her feet. Both of you have been at it for the same amount of time, but she's currently throwing a tantrum and doesn't want to take part in the tiring work anymore.

Seems like as a Queen of bugs, she has a bit of a diva streak...

Fruits are easy to come across. Whenever you find anything on a high branch, Blipbloop simply hacks into the mainframe and deletes the connecting portions, forcing them to spill onto the ground, where you can pick them up. You get quite a lot of tasty fruits. They all look like local wildlife. Cloudberries, fruits filled with iron fillings, juicy citrus-like fruits that taste like battery acid, all sorts.

You abruptly come across a strange region in the forest, however. Blipbloop creates a popup, showing that the local clock has been set to Friday the 13th, Halloween. That doesn't really make sense, considering Halloween is on a 31st, but the more you look at the popup, the more your head hurts.

Sitting there is what looks like a pumpkin, moving up and down idly. It's clearly not a digital creature, but plants don't move like that. Blip also grabs your attention with a series of bloops, motioning to the grass around the region. Pixel by pixel, the greenery is taking on a dead, brown tone, radiating outwards from the item.

Ah, Jif Jungle. Everything here is in constant motion. Many parts of the digital world are eerily still, made of pixels, voxels, and stock images. It can get eerie at time, especially for a human visitor. But Jif Jungle is different. Everything is in constant motion, and it can get dizzying. Nauseating ,even. Camouflaged creatures are extremely common here, as the moving pixels make their square patterns nigh impossible to spot. It's an even more dangerous region than File Forest, and Virus types are present in vast quantity.

The two of you decide to check out the fans. You spend some time observing other creatures, watching how they leap onto the air currents and use them to travel about or take to the skies.

Eventually, the two of you feel confident enough to hop on. And indeed, it's a fun experience! Vespray spreads her little arms and flaps them, as though imagining flying for real. The two of you use the fans to travel across a valley, getting to the other side safely.

One particular trait of the PC Peaks fans is that they spin fast enough to generate such a strong gust that there's nothing heavy enough to fall into the blades and get ground up. However, there are some that spin a lot slower, as supplementary fans...

And during your acrobatics, the two of you are blown by a current into a slower-spinning region. You notice too late that you're both headed for the blades! And your body weight is pushing you down, rather than being blown upwards. Vespray begins to panic, as you go speeding towards the rapidly-turning, razor-sharp fan blades.

What'll you do?

In the case of Vespray, she wouldn't be too averse to it, unlike Clocktick, who is a Vaccine type and hostile towards Virus types. Since the standard Data type is preyed on by viruses, introducing such data isn't conflicting with its role.

>>4988209
Vespray panics and flails, squealing in terror as the two of you drop. It's like that old charlie and the chocolate factory movie with Gene Wilder, but in reverse. You manage to grab on to her and hold her tight. She responds to your grip, but is still clearly terrified.

The fans, unfortunately, are PC fans, and so have no non-moving portion. It's danger all the way down. And thus, the second option is activated! You spike Vespray out of range, pushing her out of the wind column. She flies backwards, reaching out for you and squealing as you plummet to your seeming doom. The last thing you see is her red eyes, wide with shock, before you fall into darkness. No matter what, she'll be safe, at the cost of your own life.

Bwoomph.

You're... Alive. You immediately sneeze as you try to reclaim the breath that was knocked out of you. Up above, you can see Vespray at the very edge of the spinning blades, just out of the actual wind column. Light streaks in from the skybox, blocked ever half-second by the spinning blades, and as you look around, you notice that you're on a mattress of dust and powdery fragments. Ew, gross. It gets all over your clothes. Looks like you've managed to drop precisely through the hole in the fan blades, and escaped being chopped to bits. Your pet will never forget that you were willing to sacrifice yourself for her in a heartbeat.

Ahead of you is a tunnel, leading deeper into the fan network, presumably. Vespray can't come down here with you, but she quickly sends a swarm through the fan blades to guide you in the darkness. After scrambling about in the caverns for what feels like an hour, you finally reach a metallic trapdoor, and bust it open.

On the other side is your grateful pet, nearly in tears, who immediately latches on to you for a hug.

Raw evo it is!

Shiftshard, after her many experiences, evolves! She's been in more scraps than other Baby-stage creatures, just that she's lost them both. The battles left her glass body slightly broken and battered, but upon evolving in an ideal environment, she managed to mitigate the damage!

Surprisingly, her next stage turned out to be close to humanoid, rather than the mechanical shape her body plan implied. She used the damage fragment of her code to form a mirror, instead of letting her body be destroyed.

And lastly, further-examining the previous skill has unlocked her innate ability.

[Skill unlocked!]
When this creature is defence-broken, it can attack one more time, though its modifier doesn't change.

Ah, and of course, she's very hungry after this.

-

As an aside, some info on skills, since not everybody got them yet. Skills are unlocked by investigating your pets, and discovering a particular aspect of their biology! For example, Vespray was used to build a hive immediately, so her skill was unlocked. Clocktick was wound up to max speed, etc.

Does she get bonus stat points for evolving in the deluxe ranch, or are the "stronger evolutions" more in the sense of them having easier-to-access and/or stronger abilities or something and not a stat thing?
>>
>>4988316
well that sounds bad
>>
>>4988318
She would have, but the 'stronger' evo was more of her being rescued from a not-so-good evolution, due to the ranch and happiness. So it evened out to zero in the end.

Still get the regular +2 stat points per stage. Future evos might be even stronger if she does particularly well, though, since you have the added buff of the ranch.

Oof. Both of them are rather tanky, unfortunately, and neither is able to break through either's defence. The bullets bounce off Pokeog's thick shell, and the spiky tackles can't break the cockroach's armor. Hissing angrily, Glockroach runs off into the undergrowth, leaving it a tie in the end!

>>4988346
Nope, the analyze skill just helps Helmsbuck be more efficient in combat, so it lets Helmsbuck swap stats around to possibly counter builds.

Skills are the part of the game that I've thought the least about, so apologies for them being a bit sloppy too. I do have like, vague skeletons for all 10 creatures' skills, though, which might change depending on small things.

>>4988353
Ah! Of course, the ancient colonists and Digital beasts who made this temple had to have some way of accessing the inside. And indeed, Doracle manages to find it. Ever since he evolved, his future-sight has been getting better. He seemed to have caught a glimpse of you two discovering the secret passage in the future, and in some sort of infinite feedback loop, pointed it out so that you could enter.

Like the one Ikado visited, this is a temple to some kind of forgotten digi-god. A passing datastream shows that the inhabitants were overrun by wild viruses. You two manage to evade most of the traps due to using the secret corridors. And eventually, you come across a mixture of a crypt and altar, of sorts. There's bound to be treasure inside. But this is surely the most well-guarded part of the tomb. A few side corridors have the lesser burial-chambers, so those might have valuable objects that are less well-guarded.

Vespray, after a long adventure, has evolved! Once a somewhat spoilt brat, this fledgling princess has learned the value of loyalty. She'll do anything to protect companions in battle, and especially her owner.

The introduction of the BUGBUD has taken her off her initial evolutionary path, making her more bug-like, rather than going down a semi-humanoid line. She uses subroutines as 'drones', to carry out tasks for her. She still hasn't seen battle, however, and isn't as weaponized as she could have been.

Pokeog has evolved to youth stage! Due to the care mistake, it has become a little reclusive, and its metabolism slowed down to adapt to the hunger. Now, it hides within a thick, spiky shell, and uses a tail to battle. It's slow when it moves on its own, but hardly anything can shove it aside if it doesn't wish to walk.

Choose ONE stat to increase.

And to reduce your penalty for the care mistake, I'll be revealing Pokeog's battle skill, which otherwise would need to be discovered. Hope this helps to make up for it.

Special skill!
Pokeog may choose to go into FULL DEFENCE mode when reacting to attacks. They can add half of their Def modifier to their defence dice, rounded down. When they do, their next attack gets a -1 penalty.

Hmm. Well, we can't see which way we'd be going... marching off into the white snow and not knowing our direction would only have a 1/4 chance of getting us even slightly headed the right way, and a 3/4 chance of getting us lost on the mountain.

So my understanding of the combat system is:
>Snapdragon has 5 attacks, can only be blocked on a 1 (requiring a 6 defend roll)
>Vespray has 3 attacks, can be blocked on a 1-3 (requiring a 4-6 defend roll depending)

The two of you flee for the treeline. You may have lost your path, but Ikado at least remembers where the trees are. The both of you seek shelter there, hoping to hide among the thick pines and avoid the worst of the storm. As a precaution, you call for help as well.

And indeed, the trees seem to break up the wind. But disaster strikes as you attempt to stick to the bases. You fall into the ground first, as the snow gives way beneath your feet. Ikado lunges to catch you, but the both of you start sinking down into the quicksnow at the base. In wintertime, tree wells are an extremely dangerous hazard for skiers and hikers. Air pockets form, and water vapor rises, turning the snow into a deadly pit. Many hikers die this way in the real world, and it seems that the simulated snowfall follows the same physics.

You two are certainly in trouble. But before you can start suffocating, a steady hand grips the back of your shirt and pulls you out! You look up to see the golden helmet that Shiftshard wears. She’s standing on her floating mirror, with her owner next to her. They’ve come to rescue you from the blizzard; right in the nick of time, too.

Ikado is next to be pulled out, and your pet sighs in relief. He looks gratefully at the two of your rescuers. And in return, Shiftshard raises a chunk of blue crabshell, nodding to the squid.

Seems like the two pets are bonding! A mutual respect has formed between them, and hopefully, between the two owners too.

As you two head through the peaks, you feel a pair of eyes on the back of your head. Something lunges at you, but Clocktick reaches backwards without even looking, grabbing it across the face and flinging it into a rock. The creature quickly recovers, snarling at you both with its elongated fangs.

It looks like some kind of mountain lion, but with red metal forming a crest on its forehead, as well as wicked-looking talons. It's a Youth Stage too.

And that's the activity for today. The original generation of pets seem to be ready for evolution now...
>>
>>4991651
Nice, by the by, two questions,
First, can we hold off the evolutions?, what I mean is not making the monsty evolve, until another desired time
Ans second, can we revert to a previous form by some item or something?
>>
>>4991652
Yeah, sure thing. You can state that you want to hold off until you get more progression in terms of wins/adventures, or if you're waiting for an item.

Reverting to a previous form, huh? Well, I guess Digimon can do that. So sure I'd say you guys would be able to revert back to Baby/Rookie stage at will. But they have to be in the ranch to increase their stage back up.

So for example, if Doracle shrinks to fit into a smaller space, he'll go back to stage 1 stats and can't re-evolve unless he's home.

In terms of permanently changing to a previous form, in order to try and get a new evolution, I'd have to say no to that, as it'd be too many sprites for me to keep up with.
>>
>>4991653
Is there anything that could get them to revert cosmetically? i.e. go back to looking like their baby form, but keep the stat form their youth stage.
I'm not really interested in doing it myself, but I figured that's probably what Raymond meant.
>>
>>4991653
Cool, then I want to hold off for the moment, I feel that I am not ready for that, I want to explore more and fight a bit so that I can get experience and feel that the evolution is meaningful
And that thing about reverting to a stage sounds useful, specially if someone is in the case of being chased and wanting to hide, will it affect it stats too?
>>
>>4991659
>>4991658

Yep, it'll lower them accordingly. I guess I could put in some item that does such a thing, and I'll add it to the pool in one of the adventures.

Ikado and Shiftshard, as well as you anons who own them, spend some time hiking back across the wastes, to safety. But before you can reach the resort again, you hear drumbeats from the treeline. Two figures emerge, each striking poses and menacingly moving towards your creatures. These definitely look like locals of the cold mountains, and a matched set, no less.

Ikado and Shiftshard have been pulled into a battle!

Each creature chooses one enemy to fight, and it's then split into two separate battles. First poster gets first choice. 1st d2 is for Ikado, 2nd is for Shiftshard.

Alright, sooo.... Bad news. I think after a week, I've found that I'm having a hard time running the quest. It takes quite a while to make sprites and come up with mechanics/locations, and I've found that I'm losing quite a bit of drive after the initial font of inspiration. And I don't want to just start having it peter off, or half-ass posts, so I'll just declare here that I'll probably be dropping it. Apologies to everyone, especially since some of you might have gotten attached to your little companions. I just don't think I'll be able to ride it out and get all the way to a 4th stage for them, do a tournament arc, and all the other things I originally intended. You guys can hang on to the sprites of your creatures for the future and just kinda use them however you want, just think of them as gifts. Real sorry once again.
>>
>>4992396
Such a shame to hear this.

The bargaining part of me would love to suggest reformatting us into a singular adventuring party of digital beasts + trainers, so that all of us would stick together against what the digital world come to throw at us (and therefore slim down most new sprite/mechanics work to 'Only' one set for the whole party as it moves together.

But in the end, it's your time and effort going into this quest and the rest of us are just along for the ride, so you need to do what is best for you.

Thank you Eggmaster for running this quest as long as you could, and thank you again for keeping us informed of the situation.
>>
>>4992396
Now I'm kinda sad, I just got fond of my companion, but I respect your decision

That being said, what if you dump some of the stuff that you planned to do here, so another anon can continue in his own thread, with his own adventures, or give the control of this thread to another?

Thank you for the fun times, have a good day man

>>
>>4993052
Thank you man, can you please put a carpet full of story related stuff that you wanted to use?, or well, the general direction
>>
>>4993056
Yeah, sure thing:

Level 3 areas would be
>Volcano region
>Underground cavern system
>Abandoned recycling plant

And at level 4, the equivalent of Mega stage, it would start a tournament arc where everyone's pets were meant to fight, in order for one person to become the champion of the digital world. I did realise that the current stats are too swingy, and in certain matchups, they're unwinnable in the first place, due to the stats having a rock paper scissors system. While this isn't that bad in adventures, since you can choose places affiliated with the type weak to yours, (Virus in data cove, etc), a random tournament bracket would be unfair, especially if someone had to surrender upon matchup.

If the King had been pissed off, it would have summoned an Apex-level Quetzalcoatl creature, which would become a hazard in the jungle from then on. The fairy bugging Strumling and Massimo was just a little shit looking to prank them, so that it could trick Strumling into eating an evolution item that would give it a slight nature/fae theme.

In terms of digimon equivalents, the cast would have been similar to the following lineages:

Helmsbuck- Justimon
Strumling- Xrosmon
Strathawk- Zhuqiemon
Ikado- Neptumon
Clocktick- Machinedramon
Vespray- TigerVespamon
Blipbloop- Titamon
Pokeog- Actually wasn't sure
Shiftshard- Ophanimon
Doracle- Wargraymon

I was also half-expecting somebody to abuse their digimon or raise it to become like, a savage monster, just to see where it would go. So I was ready for that, as well as the fact that it could have turned on the player at the end of the tournament arc.
>>
>>4993163
