Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll a D100 unless otherwise specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of Seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, you made it to a small roadhouse pokemon centre on Route 2 ahead of the rain and stayed the night. The next morning, you challenged two trainers to battles and won before you tried to challenge four young women afterward. You were declined and offered a boon from one of them instead, before things turned into a game, trying to guess what their dream careers are...

You're silent as you think for a minute.

"Do I get anything extra if I guess correctly?" You ask, more to clarify than anything.

Martha rolls her eyes as her friends giggle.

"Hm? Oh, hey!"

Before any of them can reply, Fie walks up, still in her sleepware but apparently seeing these four was enough to wake her up.

"Fie! What are you doing here?" Judy asks as all four of them perk up at her appearance.

"Travelling with Alex here for the time being." Fie replied. "What are you guys up to? I thought you'd decided you didn't accept challenges from anyone without a solid badge collection."

"Just offered him a bit of help and it turned into a bit of a guessing game." Martha replies.

"To answer your question though, how about a second choice?" Kathryn suggests.

Fie grins wickedly.

"That's an idea." She agrees. "How about seven minutes in heaven though?" She asks.

She's rewarded with all four staring and blushing hotly.

"Fie!" Jean says, clearly mortified as Fie cackles, leaning on you for support.

"What?" She asks innocently, still grinning like a Sharpedo.

"W-we can't just-" Martha says, shaking her head.

Fie holds up her hands placatingly.

"Guys, he's cool. He's had more than his fair share of opportunities to perv on me and he's been nothing but a gentleman." She assures.

"Won't the nurse say something though?" Martha asks.

"I didn't bring my bag down, so we'll have to go up to our room anyway..." Jean replies.

"Nevermind that now, he's got to guess what the rest of us want to do first." Judy notes.

"Er, a second reward is feriously, sine." You say, before facepalming as the four giggle at your gaff.

"Hey, if you're refusing for my sake, don't worry. A little harmless fun never hurt anyone." She adds with a smirk at your expense as it's your turn to blush furiously.

"A-anyway, Kathryn, you want to be a pokemon breeder. Judy, you want to be a Contest Star and Martha, you want to be a Pokeathlete." You say before this gets any more ridiculous.

"I'll give you a TM if you pick me." Judy adds.

"Kathryn." You say after a moment's thought.

Getting some instruction from Martha on how to train your team better is tempting and a free TM would be super-useful potentially, but the possibilities an egg offer are just too good to pass up.

"Alright, let's go." Jean says as she stands up and Kathryn grins and heads for the PC.

In their place, Fie sits down, evidently to catch up with her old travelling companions.

You follow Jean upstairs to another room and follow her in. It's identical to yours in practically every way, barring the fact there're four bags against the wall.

She grabs one and pulls out a large case from the bottom before unlocking it to reveal a collection of fossils laid out in a deep foam tray.

She looks at them critically as you admire them with no small amount of awe, before picking out a small piece of amber that fits neatly in the palm of your hand.

"Here you are." She says, transferring it into a sealed, padded container and handing it over to you.

"Thanks." You say as she packs up her collection and carefully puts it away again.

"You're quite welcome." She says, blowing you a kiss as there's a knock at the door, which, Jean opens to reveal Kathryn with the promised egg.

(Part 1)

(Part 2)

"Here you are." She says, passing you the portable incubator the egg is nestled in. "Now, I should probably explain a few things about raising pokemon you hatch." She adds, sitting down beside you and laying out how and what to feed them, what to be mindful of and when the ideal time is to start training them.

It's all pretty self explanatory and if you needed, you could probably find all of this in the pokedex anyway but with how bright eyed and enthusiastic Kathryn is, you can't help but listen. Her enthusiasm is infectious.

"You got all that?" Kathryn asks when she finishes.

You nod.

"Yeah, that's all pretty self explanatory." You reply.

"Back to the fossil for a moment..." Jean says from where she's been patiently waiting by the door. "If you want to get a pokemon cloned from that fossil, you'll have to go to the old museum in Silveridge Town or the research labs in Redmont Town or Blackstump Town." She informs you.

"Is that expensive?" You ask. You seem to recall there being some word about the process being complicated, time-consuming and requiring some pretty advanced facilities and tech.

"Oh, extremely." Jean confirms. "But the League subsidises the labs, so it's effectively free for trainers." She explains.

"Well, thanks again." You say with a smile.

"Did you want to do seven minutes in heaven?" Kathryn asks curiously into the ensuing silence, making your blood freeze in your veins and eliciting an exasperated sigh and facepalm from Jean.

"Kath... why?" The blonde asks as you blush red.

"Well, he's clearly not put off by us." She replies reasonably.

You get the feeling you're witnessing a private argument.

"What's Seven Minutes in Heaven?" You ask, innocently.

You know perfectly well what it is. You've never played, but you've been to parties. And on unsupervised camping trips.

This is fun. You admit to yourself as Jean flushes and tries to stammer out an explanation.

Kathryn beats her to it though.

"It's simple. Two people go off on their own for seven minutes." Kathryn sums up.

She said it without so much as blinking.

"Normally, two people chosen by everyone else in the group. And normally a boy and a girl." Jean adds sounding annoyed.

"Sounds like fun." You agree, trying not to laugh at how enthused Kathryn looks and how flustered Jean is.

This isn't really something you've had any strong opinions on previously, but you've got to admit, at least to yourself that you're a little curious, even if 'the big deal' is just a bit of rough-housing like with Fie the night before last.

And it seems like Jean isn't quite as against the idea as her attitude suggests. None of them have rejected it out of hand.

"It's by popular vote." Kathryn continues, tapping away on her pokedex. "So, in this case, it'd be Fie, Jean, Martha, Judy and I." She adds as Jean's pokedex pings a message.

"Fie's not with us anymore." Jean notes.

Kathryn wave a hand.

"She's here now and they're an item, so she ought to have a say." Kathryn replies off-handedly. "And... there. Voting has started." She said with satisfaction.

"Wait, do I get a say in this? What if the nurse comes up?" You ask with at least a little trepidation.

You're pretty sure this is the sort of thing your mum would absolutely crucify you for.

"Well you sounded interested." Kathryn notes. "Or were you just having Jean on?" She asks.

"We won't." Kathryn says. "It's the breakfast rush, no one is going to be able to keep track of anything." She adds.

"Now, let's see how we go..." She says, studying her pokedex.

Yours pings and when you check it, it has a message from Fie:

Have fun. ;) It reads. Evidently, she's voting, but she's not in the pool. Which makes a certain sort of sense, you suppose.

You swallow, suddenly at least a little nervous.

You really hope it just turns out to be a bit of harmless rough-housing like with Fie. Kathryn's frankly kind of scary with her enthusiasm.

There's a few moments of silence punctuated by pings before Jean blushes and Kathryn gives her a thumbs up.

"So, I'll be back in seven minutes." She says, picking a towel out of her bag, before giving the two of you a wink. "Or so. 'Bye~" With that, she's gone leaving the two of you alone.

Judging by how Jean is blushing, she has concerns. She takes a deep breath, apparently steeling herself.

"So, um..." Her composure cracks and she deflates. "How are you so calm about this?" She asks, clearly exasperated.

"Now, what would be fun, is if we made them believe we're idiots and leave them guessing." You propose.

She tilts her head, thinking about it.

"You got something in mind?" She asks, looking thoughtful herself.

"Mostly, wait for Kathryn to come back and get caught in a 'compromising' position." You admit.

Jean nods.

"Yeah, that would work." She agrees. "She's not got the most overactive imagination in our little group, but she's been trying to hook me up." She agrees, sitting down beside you, then gives you a poke. "But ah... what would you say would be a 'compromising' position?" She asks with a grin, apparently taking her chance to flip the tables and be the one teasing.

"Ah... It sounds like you've got an idea..." You stammer as that question puts all sorts of ideas into your head.

"Before I say anything, I want to know why Fie decided to vouch for you like that." Jean says, getting serious for a moment. "What've you been up to that you've had plenty of opportunities to perve on her?"

"Well, when we met, a bunch of skwovet had stolen her clothes when she was skinny dipping." You say. "I went and got them for her."

"And you didn't try sneaking a peak while she was getting dressed?" Jean probes.

"No, of course not." You reply. "That would've been rude. She asked me to rub her back the evening after, since her scars were playing up. And the night before last, we shared a tent because hers was acting as the scaffolding for our shelter."

Jean's giving you a critical look.

"...Okay. That is a lot of opportunities." She concedes, before leaning in to whisper in your ear. "How about, we hold onto each others' waistbands and pretend to make out?" She suggests.

That actually wouldn't be a bad idea and it'll certainly put the idea into Kathryn's head that the two of you were in the middle of something when she walks in.

You get the sense though that Jean's testing you. Verifying what Fie said. Vetting you, might be a good wayto think of it.

"There." She says, adjusting herself so she's more comfortable, meaning you've got her comfortable weight pressing you into the bed. "This is probably about as 'compromising' as we can get without... you know."

You nod, resisting the urge to move your hands.

"Any idea when Kathryn will be back?" You ask.

Jean shakes her head.

"I'll hear her coming, but we won't know for sure until she's opening the door." She replies. "You um... you don't mind if I kiss you when that happens, do you?" She asks. "Just to really sell it."

After a minute, you're both relaxed and all the awkward tension hs bled out of you both.

You can feel Jean's heart, beating in time with yours as she breathes in time with you. Apparently, she decided to follow your lead.

You can actually feel the moment the last of the wariness bleeds out of her and she relaxes completely.

It's also betrayed by the fact she props herself up on one elbow and gives you a genuine smile as a contentment you associate with dust and rocks steals over you.

"Are you channeling aura?" She asks, mindlessly stroking your forehead.

"Yes." Your reply. "Since we're going to be here for a bit, I figured I'd practice." You admit.

Jean frowns.

"That... ...might not be such a good idea." She says.

You feel a thrill. Cold uncertainty and her caution returning.

"Sorry. Didn't know." You assure as you stop. "Kind of new to this." You admit.

"You made it down into one of the cave shrines then." She guesses, giving you a critical look. "That's kind of impressive. Pokemon tend to get a lot stronger than Rookies can handle the further down into a cave you get." She notes.

"I went down with someone who knows a bit more about Aura than I do." You explain.

"No way, you met an Aura Guardian?" Jean asks, clearly startled.

"A novice anyway. His name is Gareth. And he's the third member of our group." You explain.

"You'll have to introduce me." She says. "I've always wanted to know more about Aura, but most books on the subject are crap written by posers from the cities spouting whatever they find on the internet." She adds.

"I will when he wakes up." You assure. "He's kind of a heavy sleeper."

"Well, he can be forgiven that this morning." Jean observes drily as the splatter of rain on the tin roof reaches you as the weather renews its intensity again.

You lapse into a comfortable silence as Jean relaxes, before after a while, you hear footsteps outside. Jean responds by swooping down and pressing her lips to yours in a mock kiss and you inch her pants down a little as the door opens.

Out of the corner of your eye, you see it's Kathryn, who's staring in genuine, open-mouthed shock.

"Jean... I- I didn't... sorry, I thought..." She stammers, blushing bright red, which is the catalyst for Jean to start laughing as Kathryn closes the door.

"The look on your face...!" Jean manages in between laughing.

"Wait... you mean... you were just staging that?" She asks incredulously.

"Mmhm." Jean nods. "Might as well have some fun, right?" She asks rhetorically.

Kathryn pouts, before stalking off to the corner, pulling a curtain out from the wall while she presumably changes.

Jean gives you a grin.

"That was fun." She admits, before retrieving a towel from her bag. "Might as well go down together." She notes, before, in what you can only assume is a moment of daring, she swoops down and gives you a peck on the cheek before you head out. "Thanks." She says afterward.

"A-any time." You stammer as you blush before you part ways at the bottom of the stairs and head back to where Fie and the others are sitting.

"So, how was it?" Fie asks with an absolutely shit-eating grin as you sit down.

Martha and Judy lean in attentively.

"I think that one might be more suited to camping. Away from other people." You add.

"If we ever cross paths on the road, we'll have to play again then." Judy says enthusiastically as Martha facepalms with a groan.

"Now look what you've done." She grumbles.

You check your watch.

It's only just gone mid morning and it's still raining like the end of the world outside. And Gareth still seems to be asleep.

"So how'd you all meet up?" You ask curiously.

"Just by happenstance." Martha replied. "We all started out on our own seperate journies when we were around about twelve and just met on the road." She explains. "It was pretty uneventful. We didn't take any unnecessary risks and didn't go off the beaten paths."

"That changed when Fie decided to take over the Gym Leader position at Saltcoast City though." Judy said. "It got us all thinking what we wanted to do after we were done taking the league challenge. We've been planning and preparing for this trip for two years now." She adds.

Kathryn squeezes into the seat next to you, sandwiching you between herself and Fie.

"That was a dirty trick." She says, poking you in the ribs.

"Jean seemed like she enjoyed it." You reply, earning another poke, before she shifts attention to the conversation. "You wondering about our journey this year?" She asks.

"Yeah." You confirm.

"Basic idea is, we want to check out all the places we've missed out on exploring before now." Kathryn explains. "The lakes, the islands, the caves, the mountains. They're all supposed to be super-rough to travel and explore. So, we want to see 'em all."

"More than that though." Jean says as she rejoins you, clothed this time, while a half-asleep looking Gareth heads for the buffet. "We want to see if all the rumours of legendary pokemon making their homes in those places have any merit."

(Part 1)
>>
>>4996214
(Part 2)

"Legendary pokemon?" You ask, startled. "I thought that was all hearsay." You admit.

Jean shakes her head.

"No, there've been sightings. They're mostly dubious, but there's enough details common to them that it's worth checking out." She adds.

"Huh."

"And there's definitely a Rayquaza that lives at the peak of Mount Reflection." Martha adds.

"You're probably going to be seeing a bit of Alex and Gareth then." Fie notes. "Or at least, Gareth." She adds, nodding to where the novice aura Guardian is headed for your table.

Jean shifts to make room for him. Presumaby so she can interrogate him at her leisure about Aura once he's properly awake.

Once greetings and introductions are made, everyone returns to their own seprate discussions.

"Mm." You nod, before excusing yourself and heading over to where the group of youngster's are now just talking.

One of them gives you a completely disinterested look.

"If you want a battle, you can sod off." He says with all the confidence of a biker and the voice of a twelve year old. "We're not going outside and getting wet. Besides, you hang out with girls." He sneers, earning uproarious laughter from his friends.

Besides, at that kid's age, you probably would've been scared of getting beat by someone who hung out with girls, though you do have to admit, if only to yourself, you're a little worried about that kid. With his attitude, he's probably going to get hit so hard at some point, that cooties will be the least of his worries.

With little else to do, you head back outside and start doing some light exercises under the shelter of the porch. It's cold and cramped but considering that you've got half a day of walking to do this afternoon, warming up is probably a good idea.

After about five minutes, the door opens and you're joined by Martha who starts on her own warm-up routine without a word. Much more vigorous than your own, but that's mostly got to do with your arm.

"So," She begins in between push ups. "Seems like this isn't going to be the last we see of one another." She says conversationally.

"Oh?" You ask as you follow her example and start on doing sit-ups.

"About four days' time, we plan to be at Lake Clarity." Martha explains. "Fie reckons you'll be there around the same time." She adds without breaking her rhythm. "So, what d'you say we all go for a hike and see if we can't see the island that's supposed to be out in the middle?"

"I've only known her for a few days and she's on track to becoming my best friend though." You confess. "Which is kind of scary, since I've never really felt that close with anyone before."

You hit fifty and haul yourself up to give your abs a rest.

"I guess that tracks." Martha admits as she joins you in recovering from her workout. "She's got her quirks, but she's shown you an awful lot of trust, in her way, after knowing you for just a few days." She explains. "You hurt her and I'll hurt you fifty times worse, understand?" You decide to bring out your team and enjoy some quiet time with them.

Volta and Kay O-o might be being looked at by the nurse, but you've got Fluffy, Syurm, Rusty and Blitz with you and they seem to be happy enough for the company.

In the meantime, you study your pokedex and see who can learn what moves.

After about half an hour, the rain begins to wane and after an hour, it stops and begins to clear.

You recall everyone and head back inside to pack your things and retrieve Volta and Kay O-o from the nurse before you reconvene with Gareth and Fie and her friends.

You say your goodbyes and promise to meet up at Lake Clarity before the girls set off northward, citing the need to find a good place to stay the night.

You tell them about your camping site from the night before last without mentioning Syurm's handiwork, before they thank you and go as everyone in the centre heads off on their own seperate journies again.

After about half an hour, you let Fluffy out to walk with you. He seems like he's enjoying the wet and cold somewhat, running ahead and around you, the very picture of energetic.

You grin, before falling in next to Gareth.

"What's up?" He asks.

"Did you talk with Jean?"

He nods.

"Yeah she wanted to know about the Aura Guardians." Gareth replied. "And well... whatever I could tell her." He added, smiling. "I've never known anyone that enthusiastic about learning." He adds.

"She struck me as the intellectual type." You agree, before you tell him what happened.

"I hope we play that game when we all meet up at the lake." He admits. "It sounds fun, but seven minutes isn't all that long." He adds.

You get the impression he's got no idea what Seven Minutes in Heaven has a reputation for. It's hard not to laugh.

Fie has no such compunction and is giggling to herself.

"I tried meditating again." You say, wondering exactly how he's going to react. "Jean mentioned that your Aura can influence people in close proximity?" You ask curiously.

"Ah." He nods. "Yeah, that's something that happens with everyone. Even someone with no experience or real talent can do that to a degree, but the effect is a lot more pronounced when someone can actually use Aura properly." He replies. "It can come in handy, but generally, you don't do that unless you're with someone you trust a lot." He adds. "It's considered... intimate."

"Have you done that before?" Fie asks curiously. "Influenced or 'mixed' Aura with anyone?"

Gareth coughs.

"Uh, yeah. With another apprentice before we set out." He adds.

"What's that like?" Fie asks.

"Can we talk about something else? I'd rather not say." He replies.

"Alright, alright." Fie says.

The topic shifts to something else after that as you continue down the road.

(Part 2)

The sun is down when you reach Newport and it's starting to drizzle again, but the city is still fairly active, with restaurants, clubs, fast food joints and similar places still open along with the occasional clothing store but nowhere that would sell anything on your shopping list.

Fie takes the lead, as you've only come here a few times previously and Gareth looks completely lost.

She leads you towards the centre of town, ignoring some of the bigger and flashier hotels, instead leading you to a small but tastefully decorated one about half a street away from the pokemon center.

You follow her in, wondering why she's chosen this particular hotel.

The lady inside perks up on seeing her and after a short discussion, Fie pays and accepts a key before leading you up two flights of stairs, before opening the door to a room that, when the lights come on, leaves both you and Gareth staring.

It's not over the top luxurious, but it makes the room you had at the pokemon center look like a hole in the wall. It's not even a room, so much as it is a suite. You're pretty sure there're units in this city that're smaller than this.

"Like it?" Fie asks with an air of self-satisfaction.

"How much does it cost a night to stay here?" Gareth asks faintly.

"It's not cheap." Fie says seriously. "When I was travelling with Martha and her friends and we were just starting out, we had to all pitch in to afford these places." She explains. "This particular line of hotels caters to established trainers. There's accomodation for us and for our pokemon. Most cheaper hotels tend to have rules to the effect of 'they stay in their balls'."

"Is that the only benefit?" You ask.

Fie shakes her head with a smile.

"Nope. That's just the beginning. Each suite has two bedrooms, double beds and an en suite shower, along with a kitchenette." She adds.

"This place has everything." You observe, shaking your head.

"That it does." Fie agrees as Gareth goes to claim one of the bedrooms. "C'mon, let's put our stuff away and come up with an idea for dinner." She says, motioning you towards the other bedroom.

"That seems a bit much." Gareth observes.

In response, Fie puts the receipt on the table.

Gareth's eyes nearly bug out of his head at the number on the receipt. You've got to admit as well, that's a decent number of zeroes.

"Anyway, dinner." You prompt.

"We could always stay here and cook." Gareth notes.

"A lot of the clubs around here serve food as well." Fie says. "And most of 'em cater to pokemon as well."

"Great. I know a place." Fie says.

With that, you head out again, following Fie to the main street and then down a couple of blocks past the pokemon centre to a busy entertainment precinct to a large nightclub.

Contraire to your expectations, you have no trouble getting in, although you notice that Gareth relaxes when he notices the sign above the counter that specifically states that alcohol isn't served here.

It's pretty busy in here and you notice there're a lot of trainers, although another sign specifically forbids battling.

Everyone seems to be having a good time as well.

There're several different groups sat around taking meals with their teams while a lot of people are also taking advantage of the dance floor.

There's a fair bit there. It should be enough to get everything on your list, but then you'll be broke.

"Probably the best way to handle it." Fie confirms, before you all look around as there's shouting at the door.

Then there's the pop of a poke ball and the next thing, half the club is on fire and people are screaming and panicking.

Security is presently pushing back the bulk of them, but some are trying to slip around the sides.

Gareth breaks off, heading to intercept one group, while another is coming right towards you with a Growlithe of her own, which you assume is the one who set the fire.

You take a deep breath then breathe out:

"Syurm, String Shot her." You order and the crazy lady is suddenly grappling with a mask of sticky silk, cutting off her order to her Growlithe.

That's the immediate trouble taken care of.

"Blitz, Bite." You order and he grabs the other Growlithe by the scruff as it hesitates, earning a yelp and a flinch from it.

"Rusty, Rock Tomb." You order and the woman's Growlithe is pelted with what looks like a pile of gravel in response, which seems to have knocked it out cold.

In the aftermath, you stride forward, pin the woman struggling with the mask in a half-nelson against the walls and grab her Growlithe's poke ball, retrieving her pokemon as the woman struggles and screams about assault as two more green-hooded hooligans rush at you, sending out an Oddish and a Snover.

You can hear Sirens in the distance and the weirdos towards the back are starting to scatter.

You can see Gareth out of the corner of your eye beating down several of them with his staff while his Druddigon, Mienfoo and Geodude variously incapacitate opposing pokemon or make sure that the people Gareth has already knocked down, stay down.

You can't see what Fie is up to, but it sounds like she and some of the other trainers almost have the fire under control.

The woman continues to scream and struggle, but you barely even register it. Has she been eating nothing but two-minute noodles her whole life or something?

"Fluffy, Helping Hand on Syurm." You order. Immediately, Fluffy glows and Syurm glows in sympathy.

"Syurm, String Shot those two." You order, indicating the two men in question.

It's chaos right now, but you're in the zone.

You sweep the woman's leg and put her on her stomach.

"Rusty, c'mere and sit on her." You order as Syurm arcs two thick, sticky wads of silk into the two new challengers' faces from your shoulder, resulting in them swearing and trying to pull it off vainly instead of ordering their pokemon.

Rusty comes bounding over and all but belly-flops onto the woman, knocking the breath out of her and effectively pinning her to the ground as he's sitting in the middle of her back where she can't reach and considering she couldn't budge you with far, far better leverage, she's out of this fight.

"Blitz, Bite Oddish. Volta, Spark!" You order as the two mens' pokemon hesitate.

The pair are on the Oddish in a moment, Blitz Biting first and causing Oddish to Flinch, while Volta slams into it and discharges a burst of electricity, severely winding it while the other man's Snover watches on indecisively.

You can see blue and red lights at the end of the street now and you can see Fie and her team running into the general melee to try and catch more of these green-hooded idiots as Gareth and his team hold up another group and prevent them from fleeing the scene through a combination of battling and Gareth knocking people down with his staff.

You drop the first guy as he's struggling with the string and Syurm sticks him to the ground with no issue.

You step over him as the second guy wrenches the string off his face and sidestep a huge kick and try to repeat the same maneuver on him as well, only for him to push you off and stagger back as Kay O-o knocks his target prone for Syurm to helpfully web to the ground.

Behind you, you hear a thud as the Snover drops to the ground as well while Volta scores another solid bite on the Oddish.

"Oddish, Poisonpowder!" Your opponent orders, before swinging a punch at you, which personally, you consider a mistake with the authorities almost on top of you when he could be trying to run instead, but nothing about these people has struck you as particularly intelligent.

You see stars and stagger back before you can say anything.

The hooligan is coming at you with another punch. Oddly, you're more stunned by the impact than anything, you turn aside the next punch, gain wrist control and put the man on his stomach before Syurm helpfully sticks him to the pavement as your cheek throbs dully.

You've dealt with worse hits sparring. Really, it's more embarassing you got hit in the first place with how telegraphed that punch was. You also have to wonder what have these people been doing that they hit like play-fighting children?

"Blitz, Ember that Oddish." You order as the police begin to corral the scene as you notice that Volta took the brunt of the Poison powder.

"Syurm, String Shot." You order, indicating the man that Kay O-o Tackled as he tries to get up and run off.

You have to suppress a smile as Syurm sticks his legs together and he faceplants before he's effectively coccooned as he tries to free his legs. She's getting pretty good at this. Maybe there're some other moves you can try teaching her that are derived from String Shot.

The next thing you know, there're police everywhere. You recall your team, barring Syurm and Rusty as firemen along with a group of Squirtle go into the bar to ensure the fire is out.

One police woman comes up to you, eyeing the belt of poke balls in your hand and the two others Fluffy was helpfully carrying for you.

"Decided to be a hero tonight, huh?" The officer asks.

"Er... N-no, but these guys just showed up, started trouble at the door and set the bar on fire in the process and tried to force their way in." You explain.

The officer nods as she jots this information down.

She continues to question you over what exactly happened while nearby, you notice Fie and Gareth being likewise interviewed as another pair of officers peel the string-shotted hooligans off the pavement and throw them in a paddy wagon, before hoisting the woman Rusty has been sitting on up as sh continues to cry rape and assault.

Eventually, you're allowed to leave, which you do.

You never got your order, but then again, you hadn't paid yet either.

"Well, that was a bust." Fie says with a heavy sigh as you head back down the street. "Fast food take out?" She suggests.

>Sure.

"Let's go to the pokemon centre." You reply. "Volta got hit by Poisonpowder so I'd prefer to get her checked than leave that."

"That sounds like a good idea." Gareth agrees. "My team got pretty beat up back there as well." He adds.

"Alright, poke centre it is." Fie says with a shrug.

You're not the only ones in there when you arrive but you are the only ones who need your pokemon looked at. The nurse quotes you and Gareth fifteen minutes, then walks off, leaving you to go to the mess hall for some food.

You pay and get a seat close to the TV.

As you eat, you're distracted by a missing persons report.

"...Sophia Palm was last seen at her father's mansion three days ago. No one has claimed responsibility for her disappearance and no ransom demands have been made, leading authorities to fear the worst."

You look up to see a picture of a shy-looking blonde girl around your own age emblazoned on the TV.

"If you have any information, please call this number." The broadcast continues, before cutting to a sports recap.

"If she's the daughter of the businessman, I'd say she bailed." Fie opines appropos of nothing as you all go back to your food. "Only so long you can put up with a toxic father figure." She added.

You don't say anything, but you're inclined to agree.

James Palm is one of the richest men in the region. A mining magnate and industrialist who, as of late, has been attracting a lot of criticism over some very shady undertakings he's been linked to. His wife left him in a spectacularly public break-up several years ago and hasn't been heard from since.

"Probably." Fie agrees. "I'd lay odds she'll try striking out as a trainer without registering." She predicts. "Which wouldn't end well for her. If we can help her out though, we should." She agrees.

"You don't like James Palm, do you?" Gareth guesses.

"More like I don't like his company. So, by extension you might say." Fie replies. "If what my dad turned into working for him is any reflection on him though, I can say quite honestly I hate his guts though." She adds flatly.

There's a beat.

"...She's kind of hot." You say into the awkward silence, earning a punch in the arm from Fie as Gareth coughs at the observation.

"Calm down, casanova." Fie chides, though she sounds grateful for your changing the subject.

"I hope she's safe." Gareth says. "I've heard men in cities like this can be little better than beasts." He adds.

"All the more reason to keep an eye out for her." Fie says.

You finish up and get your pokemon back before heading back to the hotel.

As you walk, you find yourself looking around, peering into the lanes, half expecting to see the lost heiress down one of them, but there's no one there. At most, you see the occasional wild pokemon lurking.

Once you're back in your room, you take turns showering before falling gratefully into bed next to Fie.

"Mm." You settle in, then smile to yourself.

"Alright, whatever's on your mind, spit it out." Fie says.

"Just thinking about my dad." You reply. "He was a runaway rich kid as well." You explain.

"Huh. There a story there?" Fie asks sleepily.

"Kind of. Ran away from an arranged marriage with a woman whom he described as 'a psychotic bitch'." You explain. "He wound up joining a gang. Met mum. And apparently wound upgoing all around the world as a result." You add.

"That missing girl's got you thinking, hasn't it?" Fie deduces.

"Kind of." You admit.

"Well, you can rehearse your pick up lines if you want, but I'm beat." Fie says. "Wake me up for anything less than a fire before eight AM and you'll regret it." She promises.

You're about to head out when there's a knock at the door.

Fie opens it and standing on the other side is a severe looking woman in a long coat she's got red hair fading to golden blonde in places and she's wearing a cravat high on her throat.

"Apologies for the disturbance." The woman says, pulling out a badge that identifies her as a member of the International Police. "Detective Acadi Winters, Castelia City PD, seconded to the International Police. I'd like to talk with you all regarding what happened last night."

"Sure." Fie says stepping aside to allow the woman in.

"Thank you. This won't take long." She says, taking a seat on the couch.

You sit down, wondering what this officer wants to know.

"Alright, I've been asked to come down and let you know you'll be receiving a small bounty for the perps you apprehended." Officer Winters says. "They're members of a grass-roots criminal activist group calling themselves 'Team Green'. They've been causing trouble in the major cities lately with similar arson attacks and riots." She explains.

"What could they possibly hope to accomplish with those antics?" Gareth asks with a frown.

"Nothing, though their stated objective is to have the Pokemon League disbanded and make it illegal to catch pokemon." Winters replies.

"So, like a shittier version of that Team Plasma or whatever they were called?" You ask.

Winters smirks.

"You could say that." She agrees. "It's part of the reason why I was sent here." She adds. "I can't comment on an ongoing investigation, but if you should happen across any information, we would appreciate it if you called." She said, handing you a card.

"We'll do that." You assure.

"What was this about a bounty?" Gareth asks.

"We're depositing a small stipend to your accounts for stopping the suspects you did last night and mitigating the damage." Winters explains. "The proprieter also wanted to extend his thanks for keeping his business from being trashed and burned." She adds, before straightening. "On that note, don't take this as an invitation to try your hand at bounty hunting." She warns. "We do have a solid case against these thugs. We do not want or need a group of trainers with delusions of grandeur playing hero and getting these criminals off scot free because of contaminated evidence or technicalities."

"We're not looking for trouble." You reply.

Winters throws her head back and laughs, revealing a thin red birthmark on her neck, like a knife wound under her cravat.

"You're trainers." Winters says, wiping her eyes. "And in my experience, trainers have a tendency to get into all sorts of trouble without meaning to." She adds. "So. If you find anything, please. Call the police."

"Huh, you know the commissioner?" Winters asks, then frowns. "Huh, so you do. I guess you would know to stay out of trouble." She concedes.

"Wait." Gareth says. "Are you a psychic?" He asks, sitting straighter.

"I am at that." Winters says. "And a registered member of the Psychic's Guild, if that's what you're worried about." She adds, holding up a forestalling hand. "And I suppose on that front, I should probably mention something else." She says, leaning in.

"What?" Fie asks.

"If you happen to find young Sophia Palm wandering around out in the world, don't tell anyone." She says. "Just keep her safe." She says.

You frown.

"Why not?" You ask.

"I'm not at liberty to say." Winters admits. "But, considering you seem to be a very morally upright young man, I'll say this: Her circumstances, as near as we've been able to tell, are not too dissimilar to another case in the Alola region some years back." She says. "I can't really say more." She adds, then pauses. "This part of the conversation never happened."

"Of course." You reply.

Winters smiles, then stands up.

"Thank you for your time and cooperation." She says. "Have a good day and a safe journey." She adds, before she leaves and the door closes behind her.

You share a look with Fie and Gareth.

"That sounds a lot like something the Aura Guardians would want to know about." Gareth says.

"Spending unsupervised time with girls..." Fie adds innocently.

You and Gareth both blush and fidget.

This morning's conversation has been in the back of your mind for the past forty-five minutes, but apparently, Fie has decided today's entertainment is going to be fucking with you.

"A-anyway, we ought to go do that shopping..."

You say, hastily getting up and recalling your team.

Gareth and Fie follow suit and you head out to get started on that, Fie leading the way.

"So, where to first?" Fie asks.

>An outdoor store. Most of your shopping list ought to be there.
>A TM store. Secret Power is probably going to eat the bulk of your budget.
>A pokemon specialty store. You don't need much there, but might as well get something quality.
>Turn about is fair play. An adult toy store.

For everyone's convenience, the shopping list:

Fishing rod.
Travelling clothes.
A flashlight.
A headlamp and caving gear.
A grooming kit.
Pokemon toys.

Mainly priprotize durable traveling clothes including a Woloo fleece jacket (since it´s slash/piercing proof tho not so resilient against fire).
Then Rod and Caving Gear.
Of the rest of the list only the Grooming kit takes priority.
If we can´t spare the money for toys lets get at least some good rope so we can play strength based games with our pokemon.

After that TM store.
Secret power is a must but if we find some rarer useful stuff instead we should go for it.

Also 3 of each Antidote, Burn Heal and Freeze Heal.

"An outdoors store, since most of what I need and want is there, plus it's the best place to start looking for a camp shower." You say after getting your priorities sorted.

"Sounds like a plan and I know just the place..." Fie agrees, before you head out.

To your surprise, you wind up taking a bus across town, passing several places along the way before you come out in a busy commercial district, before Fie leads you to a small shop fron that's crammed full of equipment and knick-knacks for camping, most of which you dismiss as novelty items or things you have already, along with tourist junk.

Inside however, past the foyer is more what you expect, with tents, clothes, cooking essentials and other outdooring equipment.

You're quickly intercepted by a clerk who, once he realises you know pretty much exactly what you want and what you're talking about, stops trying to sell you cheap rookie stuff and eagerly starts talking specifics and more expensive, but better quality items.

You quickly manage to replace your wardrobe with hard-wearing travelling clothes and get a good, water-proofed, wooloo-fleece jacket, the fishing rod and the flashlight and headlamp.

The camp shower is another easy find. You all put in for that straight away before you and Gareth ask about caving equipment.

This, surprisingly, is also something this shop stocks, much to your surprise. Fie looks particularly self-satisfied at your shock.

You had been expecting to spend a lot of time hunting for a specialty store, but you pick up a pair of hard hats and overalls without any trouble.

Once you've paid, you wince at the bill, as it's wiped out fully half of your budget, but you should be able to get the other things on your list without too much trouble. Especially since Fie seems to know where to look.

Looking around, there're racks of TMs organised by type.

Ultimately, it's an investment. And a worthwhile one, even if it is going to leave you short of money for the time being.

The trip back to the hotel is uneventful and after a quick snack, you go out to the pokemon center down the block and set up in a corner of the arena to train. And not general training like you've been doing. Now, you're going to be doing some specific training.

You've got some ideas in mind, but you're not going to have the time to do everything you want to do in one afternoon.

You've got about four hours before sundown and you can maybe afford to spend a few hours in the morning doing a bit of extra training in the morning before you go and challenge Ethan.

We are Alex, son of Jesse and James went good, a 17yo debutting trainer in Poke-Stralia. Capoeira enthusiast.
We are training for our First badge vs Ethan, Bug gym leader.
Our team is made of :
Fluffy the Eevee, our starter we want to evolve into Umbreon.
Volta the shinx
Syurm the Sewaddle (MVP, tons of utility)
Kay O-o, highest level of our team, jangmo-o level 20 or so
Rusty the Aron
Blitz the Growlith
Sage the Fennekin.

Our story so far :
>we left the starting town
> got an asshole rival named Mike.
>On the first road, we met Fie, the Fire gym champion, that we helped
>she was skinny dipping,
>got her cloth stolen by some rat.
>This is also where we caught Syurm and Volta
>Back to town, Mike tried to challenge us with an overleveled Kangashtan. Fie totalled him.
>On the road again, we went spelunking in a cave with an aura Guardian named Garrett, that travel with us.
>Thanks to him we caught the over-level Kay O-o and start learning how to use our Aura.
>We advanced a bit more, fought a few time.
>We got mauled by a Rufflet which might or might not stalk us now
>We set up a tent for abritting wild pokemons from a tempest. This is where we got Rusty, Sage and Blitz
>On a RoadHouse, we met some friends of Fie : Martha, Kathryn, Jean, and Judy. They gift us a fossil and an egg. More on that up this thread
>Finally arrived to 2nd town.
>We scrubbed vegans from team whatever yesterday night.
> The sexual tension between us and Fie is at 10 on a 10 scale
>We just met "Holly", real name Sophia Palm, local rich heiress which run away from home.
>She obviously have no clue we know her true identity. By global consensus, we adopted her as a party member while trying to be the nicest possible

You decide to train Rusty first.

And at some point today, you're going to have to spend some time with Sage and actually get to know her.

But first, Rusty.

Looking at the moves he can learn, there're a few options that stand out to you:

>Teach Rusty Stealth Rock
>Teach Rusty Mud Slap
>Teach Rusty Roar

>>5007053

>Teach Rusty Mud Slap
For utility like taking fire out and delicious cheesy strategy
>>
>>5007053
>Teach Rusty Mud Slap
>>
>>5007165
>>5007175

The first order of business, you decide, is to teach Rusty Mud Slap.

So, after finding a good training regime, you find an old chip packet and stick it to the wall as a target and get to work on trying to teach Rusty the move, showing him the demonstration you found, before stepping back to see if he can get it.

You return Rusty, then, after a moment's thought, you decide to train Blitz next.

And, because of how well teaching Fluffy and Volta in tandem went, you release Votla as well, since the information you find suggests that they can both learn Fire Fang on their own with enough practice.

There's actually a scarred-up wooden post leaned up against the wall, apparently meant for use as a target for this sort of thing, which you happily appropriate.

After a couple of minutes using Bites to get the pair warmed up, you crouch down in front of a very happy looking Blitz.

Apparently, he's enjoying this game and competing with Volta.

"Okay, I want you to keep using bite, but try using Ember at the same time." You say.

You receive a happy bark and Blitz happily complies, blowing fire early or late and biting at the post as you shift your attention to Volta.

"And what I want you to do, is try to copy him." You say.

Volta nods, before squaring up and attacking the post in turn with Blitz, watching how he does it. She's not having as much luck, mostly managing the occasional zap of electricity out of sequence with her bite, which you try and correct and help with as you can.

The next hour is nothing but hard work.

Blitz makes steady progress. He has some initial problems with his timing but he gradually gets the hang of it and towards the end of it, he's got Fire Fang down. Moreover, he's gotten it down to the point you're pretty sure his bite force might be edging towards Crunch.

Either way, you've got no concerns about his ability to use Fire Fang by the end of the allotted hour.

Volta though...

Fire Fang was a bit of an ask.

She's got the general gist of it but she's struggled with this. By the time the hour's up, she can semi-reliably land the move, but much like with Bite, you're pretty sure she's going to need some more practice before she's really got it down pat.

Well, with how well that went, you might as well keep going.

Blitz seems to be onto something and Volta maybe Volta will have more luck with something that comes more naturally to her.

"Alright, you both seem to be in the groove, so let's keep going." You say after a short break. "Blitz, keep practicing your biting." You say, earning a happy bark. "Now, don't worry about fire this time, just focus on biting that log as hard as you can."

Blitz gives you another bark before starting on doing just that.

"Now Volta..." You say. "Same deal, but instead of fire, try and use Spark while you Bite." You instruct.

Volte, who's looking at least a little miffed by her lack of success in comparison to Blitz, perks up at this and joins Blitz in her practice.

Things go pretty well this time. They're both warmed up and they're both motivated and sure enough, Blitz is making progress towards Crunch while Volta makes great strides on Thunder Fang. The fact it comes naturally to her definitely helps.

It's towards the end of things when things go amiss though:

Volta and Blitz both come in at the same time to bite the target, but Blitz misjudges his spacing and instead of biting the target, he lands a very solid bite on Volta instead, earning a yowl from her from the surprise and pain, before she responds with a thundershock.

Blitz yelps and releases her, but they both look about ready to fight just then and Volta definitely got the worse of that exchange.

Volta, Blitz stop it.
Blitz apologize to Volta and lick her wound, you shouldn´t have Bitten her alright?
Volta you to don´t attack any more Blitz didn´t mean to hurt you, he was just a little careless.

Then return them to their respective poke-balls for a heal up later.
>>
>>5007472
>Calm them both down
>>
>>5007482
"Hey, hey, hey, calm down. That was an accident." You say, getting between them and talking softly to diffuse the situation before it gets any worse. "Volta, Blitz didn't mean to bite you. Blitz, Volta got startled, that's all." You assure and they both soften their stances slightly and come to sit in front of you.

"See? We're all friends here and no harm done." You assure, ruffling their ears.

They both give each other long looks before nodding.

You pet them once more, then return them for the time being.

The end result of this round of practice though, is that Volta has indeed learned Thunder Fang while Blitz has made great strides towards learning Crunch. He's not quite there yet, but he's getting there.

You've still got an hour before the sun sets, by your reckoning, which is enough time for one more training session.

A few fakemons and regionals form from some of my favorite fangames.
Plot point is based on several legendary pokemon cults (Giratina, Deoxys Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem, and other to be defined), morally and ethically discutable situations you'll have to chose side or remains out of it.
World might be a lil tad darker than this but not in the "your bug type was eaten by your opponent lol" but like meat will come from pokemons,
Pokeballs will be very limited in amount but capture will autowin on a defeated pokemon

>"your bug type was eaten by your opponent lol" but like meat will come from pokemons,

I take the approach that wild Pokemon will hunt other wild Pokemon that are a potential food source (within reason) and trainer battles have a safety mechanism with pokeballs to preserve Pokemon from severe injuries.
As for raised meat... There´s several cattle Pokemon and Spoink bacon sounds delicious.

In the case of that fridge logic bit:

I'm going with the old interpretation that normal animals do exist and tend to be the go-to choice for food. This goes doubly for fish.

That's not to say pokemon don't eat one another in the wild or that pokemon aren't eaten by people, but it tends to happen less often or in the context of survival.

This also means that shepherds and drovers tend to be badasses.

Obligingly, he shimmers momentarily, before the shimmer dissipates.

"Alright, you three are going to be practicing that. Kay O-o, you're going to demonstrate." You say.

This training turns out to be deceptively easy.

It doesn't take particularly long before Fluffy, Syurm and Rusty are all manifesting Protect barriers.

That is, of course, only half the move though. Whether they can stand up to a hit is another question, so for the second part of the lesson, you get Kay O-o to test their defenses, Tackling the three in turn to mke sure none of their barriers shatter under stress.

This works out pretty well, until Syurm's barrier fails and Kay O-o plows into her, sending her skidding into the wall and fetching her up in much the same state as Volta is in.

Fortunately, Syurm is a little more understanding than Volta was and doesn't seem to be holding a grudge, even though she's hurt and Kay O-o, for his part, is very contrite, bounding over to Syurm to make sure she is alright.

It's getting dark and you should start heading back to the hotel soon.

You take Blitz, Volta and Syurm in to get healed by the nurse before going back out to let Fluffy out, just to spend some time with him.

You've only really got the practice target to do anything with, but you make do, running around it playing a makeshift game of tag and rough housing a bit, getting knocked down by a playful tackle before you both settle down and just watch the stars start to come out as it starts to get dark.

You check your watch and realise it's starting to get onto about six thirty. After getting your pokemon back from the nurse, you start back to the hotel.

This is a surprise, but you release your team in response. Everyone. If these cowards are going to jump you, you're not playing fair.

"Volta, Thunder Fang Zubat!" You order and she lunges as the four Team Green thugs founder. Clearly, they weren't expecting you to just flatly attack them with a four-to-one numbers advantage.

The initiative is their loss however and you keep it rolling as Volta mauls the Zubat, dropping it in one electrified bite. You take that as a testament to how quickly that your team is growing as you continue to give your orders.

"Blitz, Bite on Houndour!" You order as one of the Team Green thugs belatedly lurches at you swinging a highly telegraphed punch. In response, you throw him at another of them as Blitz bounds forwards and shows that the afternoon's practice was well-spent as he bites the Houndour hard enough to make it yelp loudly. With any luck, that'll attract attention and bring Gareth or Fie running.

"Fluffy, Covet on that guy!" You order, picking out the Poochyena's trainer as he fumbles with a belt of poke balls. And to keep the ball rolling, you snap around to the fourth trainer. "Syurm, String Shot!" You order and immediately, she webs the Oddish's trainer to the wall behind him, gagging him in the process as Fluffy brings you the belt of pokeballs as the Poochyena's trainer glares furiously at you from behind his bandanna.

"Kay O-o Dragon Tail on Pooshyena." You order as said Poochyena's trainer belatedly orders a Bite, far too late to counter as Kay O-o thunders in and slams the Poochyena back with a sweep of his tail and into his trainer's chest, knocking them both prone.

"Rusty, Headbutt on Oddish." You add as the Oddish hesitates, clearly torn between cutting its trainer down or attacking you and your team. Rusty has no such qualms and plows into Oddish, fetching it up stuck in Syurm's web as well.

That's one of them effectively out of the fight, two of them effectively defeated and two of them down and just now getting back up.

Your taking the intiative and not being cowed by their intimidation has put you solidly in control of this fight for the moment and your team are fine, but there's no guarantee their aren't more of these assholes just waiting to jump in and while these dregs seem to have pretty weak pokemon, there's nothing stopping others being serious trainers or having stronger pokemon.

You can feel blood trickling down the side of your head.

"Like shit." You admit raspily. "What happened?"

Fie hands you a glass of water.

"You got jumped by Team Green. Eight of them total. One of them got you with a bike lock. He's facing an attempted murder charge." Fie replies. "Me and Gareth got there just about when the second group of four were trying to get you from behind." She explains.

"Then, Ethan came out of the pokemon centre and subdued them." She adds. "We sorted things out with the police and he agreed to put us up for the night, since no way Team Green would have the balls to try braving his gym to get to you."

"How long was I out?" You ask, feeling a little better for the drink of water.

"About fifteen hours." Fie replies. "Ethan's going to check you for a concussion before you get out of bed or anything though." She says. "You hungry?"

"Starving." You reply, realising abruptly it was lunchtime yesterday you actually ate something. "How's my team?" You ask.

"Your team are fine. Ethan took care of Fluffy after he got kicked like that and all your other pokemon were okay." Fie replies.

You nod.

"Where's Gareth?" You ask.

Fie shrugs.

"Still snoring his head off in the guest room, probably." She replies. "Holly should be along shortly with breakfast." She adds.

You smile.

"Thanks for taking care of me." You reply.

Fie snorts.

"I haven't done anything." She says modestly. "Ethan did all the work and Holly's the one cooking." She adds.

You nod, looking around the room.

It's a decent size, with a chair in the corner and boxes along one of the walls suggesting it's not used particularly often.

You notice the earthy smell that you took to be from who you can only presume was Ethan last night is still thick in the air, so it's probably a safe bet that his home is part of the gym's glasshouse.

"Am I getting out of bed today?" You ask.

Fie shrugs.

"Probably, but Ethan wants to make sure you'll be alright before he clears you to get up." She says. "He'll be a bit though."

"Right." You sit up a little and adjust your pillow so you're comfortable, before taking Fie's hand. "If that's the case we might as well finish that conversation from yesterday." You say.

Fie smiles.

"Sure." She says. "Having had some time to think about it, I think I draw the line at making out." She adds, but raises a finger. "I reserve the right to keep checking where my line is though." She says.

"There was, but she left on her journey a few years ago. She never came back." You reply. "She was more of a childhood friend though." You add.

Fie sits back.

"In other news, I got Holly all set up with a new look and a trainer's licence while you were training." She says. "And she decided she'd be coming with us." She adds.

Going around alone is a surefire way to get jumped.
Also about time we get a flying type that can scout from the air and give us a warning if there´s more attackers coming.
If we are in an alley like this again we should also have Syrum use String shot to make a barricade so we can buy time and narrow the number of enemies we´re facing.

"Well that's easy enough." You note. "She can borrow your tent and I'll put you up." You offer.

"Well, if that's what you want to do, then sure." Fie says, nodding. "We'll just have to let Gareth and Holly know when we leave." She adds.

"Come to that, we probably ought to make a rule about wandering off alone." You note. "As in, not doing it. Minimum from now on, we go places in pairs." You suggest.

"Good call." Fie agrees, nodding, before Holly, whom you barely recognise in the practical travelling clothes and the newly dyed brown hair, comes in with a tray absolutely loaded with food:

There's a huge stack of toast, a selection of spreads, a pot of coffee, porridge, pancakes, tea, hot chocolate and cereal.

Behind her is the man who you recognise as having stitched you up yesterday and on his shoulder is Syurm, who happily jumps onto the doorframe and crawls around the walls to drop down onto her favoured spot on your shoulder.

"Well now, I wasn't expecting you to be awake quite so quickly." The man notes. "How are you feeling?" He asks.

Now you have a better look at him, he seems to be in his late twenties and his untidy, mauve-dyed hair appears to be in a slow retreat. He doesn't seem to smell of earth and eucalyptus now either, so you assume he's taken a shower since yesterday.

"I think I'll feel better with a good meal under my belt." You reply as Holly puts down her tray.

"That's pretty likely." The man agrees. "I'm Ethan, Newport's Gym Leader and an Entomologist." He says.

"Alexander, but you can call me Alex." You reply.

"Good to meet you." He says with a nod. "And I take it that this fine example of a Sewaddle is yours then?" He asks, gesturing to Syurm as you pour yourself some coffee and help yourself to some toast as Fie takes some and motions for Holly and Ethan to as well.

>Syurm? Yeah. She's really something.

"I don't doubt it with how she tied up those Team Green thugs last night." Ethan replies. "Were you planning on challenging my gym?" He asks.

"I still plan to, if I'm fit to get out of bed." You reply.

Ethan chuckles as he steps up and starts waving his finger in front of your eyes, before he nods.

"I'd say you'll be alright." He says. "The reason I ask is, I thought you might be interested in a little side-wager."

"A side wager?" You ask.

"It's simple: If you can beat me first try, I'll teach Syurm here a few moves. Even a couple Sewaddle can't normally learn." He says.

"That definitely sounds appealing." You admit.

"The downside would be it'd take a few days." Ethan warns. "She'd be back with you about the time you reach Silveridge Town though." He adds.

You do some quick math.

If you factor in a day or two to explore Lake Clarity, that's roughly four or five days.

"Are you okay with that, Syurm?" You ask, looking to her.

She nods, once as she happily chews away at the piece of toast.

"Alright, sounds good." You agree.

"Let me know when you're ready to begin." Ethan said.

"I will." You reply. "Say, I heard on the road that part of the challenge is to help you with your research...?" You ask.

"That's right." Ethan confirms. "You'll have to catch a bug pokemon in the conservatory and bring it to me before you can battle me." He explains. "Which unfortunately, means that Syurm isn't eligible as a means to skip that requirement." He adds apologetically.

"Ah, okay."

Best to rest up.
Also thank Gareth and ask if he´s alright, given the psychic abilities in his aura he must have felt terrible too.

Ask Ethan if he has a suitable training area you can borrow.
Then finish teaching Syrum Protect and the Fang moves that Blitz and Volta had a head-start on (Crunch and Fire Fang).
This time we should make sure they have different practice targets.

You take your time and enjoy your breakfast before you get up after Fie take Holly out to do something else.

Once you're finished and dressed, you head out, Fluffy leading you back to where your team are waiting. It's mid morning, and after going to find Ethan and asking about somewhere you can do some training, he takes you to a secondary arena off what you assume is the gym's primary one towards the back.

You figure you can squeeze two, maybe three sessions in over the course of the next hour or so.

>>5012923

You've got a few ideas of what you're going to do, but the first things on your list are finishing up where you left things last night with Syurm, Bitz and Volta.

That in mind, you release Kay O-o and Syurm.

"Okay Kay O-o, I want you to keep helping Syurm with Protect." You instruct. "Just take it easy, so we don't have a repeat of last night." You add.

Kay O-o nods once, before turning to Syurm and glowing. Syurm obligingly Tackles Kay O-o, before they get down to it.

That taken care of, you pull out a couple of practice dummies from a storage bin by the side of the arena and release Blitz and Volta, who trade glances before looking to you.

"Okay, we're continuing where we left off last night." You explain. "So, Blitz, I want you to practice Crunch on this target." You say, indicating one of the two dummies.

Blitz barks, before proceeding to do just that.

"And Volta, I want you to keep practicing Fire Fang on this target." You say, indicating the second target, set up at a distance from Blitz's target so that the only way he'll be biting Volta, is if he runs across and does so deliberately.

Volta gives you a nod before setting to work.

Things start off relatively well, but your team seems like they're off your game.

You're barely ten minutes into training when you hear a yelp from Blitz and go over to find he's chipped a tooth.

"Ah... shit."

You recall Blitz before turning to Volta, who's looking over curiously.

"Keep practicing, I'll be right back." You say, before hurrying off to find Ethan.

"Hm?" He looks up as you hurry over to where he's waiting at a table, going over some figures. "What's wrong, Alex?" He asks.

"Blitz, my Growlithe, he chipped a tooth practicing Crunch." You explain.

Ethan inhales through his teeth.

"Ooh, that's no good." He agrees. "I've got a machine out back, but I'd advise you give him a spell and some calcium supplement to help his bones and teeth along." He adds. "And maybe wait until he's a little stronger until you teach him Crunch." He adds. "There's a reason most pokemon tend to learn more powerful moves as they age and grow stronger. Most of the time, it's not a case of if they're capable of performing a move, it's the risk they pose to themselves in doing so."

"I didn't know that." You admit.

"Well, you're starting out. Starting out late granted, but starting out nonetheless. Nobody expects you to know everything there is to know about pokemon and battling." Ethan replies. "Just, don't go wilfully putting your pokemon in harm's way by teaching them moves they're not ready for." He cautions. "In your Growlithe's case, I'd lay odds the reason he chipped a tooth, is because his teeth are still growing, so they're not as strong as they would be if he was more mature and powerful."

You nod.

"I'll keep that in mind." You say.

"Do you have a PC here?" You ask Ethan.

"I do." He confirms.

"Then, when you're done, I'll send swap him out and he can spend a few days with my family back in Greenshoot Town." You reply.

"Not a bad idea." Ethan agrees as you follow him to the machine and watch as he sets it to running.

After a few minutes' wait, he returns Blitz's ball to you and you release him.

He looks better, but still rather sorry for himself.

"Sorry Blitz. I didn't realise you weren't quite ready to learn Crunch just yet." You say, ruffling his ears.

He noses you in return.

"You're going to get a short break. Just for a few days. Don't go too rough on my brother playing chase now." You caution.

Blitz barks before you return him and go to the PC.

You make a quick call to your mother and exchange Blitz for Sage, before you thank Ethan and hurry back to where the rest of your team are practicing.

Volta is still biting her target, but doesn't seem to be making any progress. Syurm meanwhile is making some progress with Kay O-o, but it's clear she's still not quite there yet, in terms of having mastered Protect.

"Okay, good effort, but I think that's enough for the time being." You admit, before recalling everyone. They seem to agree. Volta in particular looks relieved.

With that done, you release Sage, who immediately bounds over and starts threading between your legs, yapping happily.

...Now if that isn't a complement to take to the goddamn bank.

For the sake of full disclosure: 2nd person writing is a whole new style of writing for me.

I'm working my way through the third draft (complete rewrite, really) of a novel.

This isn't my best work, but the fact you feel this is good and entertaining means I'm on the right track and doing something right at least.

Thanks.

At this stage, there's really not much point in trying to do any training with her.

Instead, you go and retrieve a ball from the storage bin and start playing fetch.

Sage is quick and half the time, she catches your throws, bounding up to neatly grab them before dashing back to give you the ball to throw again.

It's a simple activity, but she seems to be enjoying herself and even when you start making things tricky, aiming your throws so the practice targets Volta and Blitz were using are in her path, she jumps them without difficulty.

By the time your pokedex chimes the half hour, Sage is happy and exhausted from all the running around and you think you've gotten a good grasp of what she can do. At least, in terms of athleticism.

She'd approached the targets Carefully the first couple of times she'd gone to jump them, before growing more confident.

It's difficult to tell without seeing her actually battle or use moves, but for the time being at least, it's probably safe to assume she'll display a similar tendency in battle.

Either way, this is probably going to be the best you can do in terms of preparation for the time being. Blitz being put out of action not even an hour before you challenge Ethan is astonishingly bad luck, but that's the way things work out sometimes, you suppose.

At least Rusty should be able to put in some work here. Sage should be able to pull her weight as well, considering this is only your first gym.

You decide that you've done all you reasonably can to prepare at present.

You tidy up after yourself, then head back the way you came to the main arena where Ethan is just now coming back from facing another challenger.

"You're ready to challenge me then?" He asked.

"I am." You confirm.

"Alright..." Ethan goes over to a cabinet off to the side of the office space you're in, opens it and pulls out half a dozen poke balls which you identify as Net Balls by the distinctive criss-cross pattern. "Here's some Net Balls. You've got an hour to catch a bug pokemon out in the glass house." He says, handing them over to you.

"What are the rules?" You ask.

"Quite simple. You can catch as many bug pokemon as you want, but you only get to keep one." Ethan says.

"Sounds simple enough." You admit.

"It does, but it's not uncommon for people to overestimate just how powerful a pokemon they can comfortably handle." Ethan says. "There're some fairly powerful pokemon in certain sections of the glass house. I've lost track of the number of times people have thought they could comfortably catch the Volcarona in the tropical forest biome, or that they'd try their luck with a Scolipede or Drapion." He adds.

"A Volcarona." You repeat disbelievingly.

"That's right." Ethan confirms. "Just the one right now. I breed and release Larvestas as part of conservation work. This particular one escaped my notice until he'd evolved and he's perfectly content to mind his own business in there, so I leave him alone."

"...Right. Well. Thanks for the warning." You reply, before making your way to the proper entrance to the gym and visitor's walk to grab a map of the glass house before heading on through into the glasshouse proper on what most people would consider the wrong side of the walkway barriers.

The first area you come into is a temperate forest, not unlike the one you came through on the walk down Route 1.

According to the map, if you follow the walkway east, you'll come to a shrubby grassland area. To the west is an arid zone and to the north is the tropical zone.

You head off towards the north, following the rough track through the temperate biome.

You see a lot of pokemon off the path:

Closer to you, a lot of smaller ones, like Spinarak, Weedle and Caterpie, while further back, you make out larger ones that are harder to identify.

None of them get in your way as you head into the tropical zone though.

There's a distinct spike in glare and temperature when you enter the biome, but when your eyes adjust, you're greeted by a tropical rainforest stretching out before you.

You can spy a few pokemon lurking in the shade:

Spinarak and Dewpider prime among them, as well as a few Grubbin, but you don't see any Larvesta.

The Volcarona is easy to spot though, presently sunning itself in a clear space directly ahead of you next to the walkway. It's huge. Ethan mustn't have been exagerating about the number of people who genuinely think that they could catch it.

You spend a while looking around the area for any pokemon you might be able to capture.

You don't stray too far off the path though. You can see a few huge Araquanid lurking further back away from the path and frankly, you'd rather not go near them.

Closer to you, you spot a Wimpod fighting over a hollow log with a Sizzlipede and off in a little pool, a Surskit skating on the surface, while what you think is a Dewpider is asleep mostly hidden by some lilypads.

You head for the scrubland zone next.

It's quite a walk. The glass house is huge and you have to wonder if Ethan was just super-rich before he built this place or if there was government or league funding involved.

The scrubland zone is a lot more open than the other two zones you've been through so far, naturally. You can see out to the other wall of the huge room you're in, the city ckyline being somewhat visible through the massive sheet glass panels above a high, solid wall, which you presume is a security measure.

Between you and the wall though is a rolling landscape dotted with bushes and the occasional tree and peppered liberally with rocks ranging in size from the size of your head to boulders the size of the ones that had made up the rock pile you sheltered at.

And interspersed throughout, are patches of very long grass, which would provide ample cover for larger pokemon. You don't immediately see any pokemon around, but then, you're just taking in the sights right now, not really putting an effort into looking.

You decide to search the rocks first and try and get a better view of the surrounds from on top of one of the really big ones.

It's an effort to climb them, during which you disturb a Dwebble, which scuttles away chittering and wind up having to shake off sticky string from a Burmy you get a little close to, but when you reach the top, you've got a great view of the surrounding area.

Looking down, you suddenly have a much better view down into the grass, where you can see it swaying and parting around a larger pokemon.

Probably best to be careful there.

You're about to climb back down when you're distracted by a buzzing and when you look down, you've got a Cutiefly landed on the bandage on your right arm where that Rufflet scratched you.

You've got plenty of time, so you decide to let Cutifly sleep off the food coma while you take in the view.

The only real places to look are the trees and the long grass from where you are without moving.

Over the next half an hour, you manage to spot a Scyther in the grass and a few Burmy hanging off of the trees, cleverly disguised by bark and leaves.

By the time Cutiefly wakes up again, you've got about ten minutes until your time is up.

"You want to come with me?" You ask, holding up one of the Net Balls.

Cutiefly looks up at you and buzzes, nodding.

You offer the Net Ball and Cutiefly nudges it.

Nothing happens.

It tries again.

Still nothing.

You frown, before taking it and hitting the activator before nudging Cutiefly again.

This time, it works. Apparently, Cutiefly doesn't have the mass necessary to activate poke balls by itself. Who knew?

Catch one of the burmy (they are immobile anyway) then try to catch the sciter by leaving some food near the edge of the grass and playing a call of it from the pokedex that indicates food to lure it out.

You don't have too much time left before your time is up, so you decide to keep looking around.

You're buzzed by a curious Yanma as you go towards the tree you noted earlier.

At its base, you find a Nincada squaring off with a Venonat over a hollow in the base of the tree.

Before the Venonat can follow or break loose, you throw another Net Ball.

You blink for a moment, stupidly, before your pokedex buzzes. Your time is up.

You collect the third Net Ball, before retracing your steps back out of the glass house and head into the grassy, lush arena and off to the side where Ethan is waiting for you.

"How'd you go?" He asks gesturing for you to show what you caught.

"Not too bad." You reply, releasing your three catches one at a time.

"Hm." Ethan said as he examines the three critically, making occasional notes, before taking them each over to a small field lab one at a time to run a few basic tests and checks.

"You didn't do too badly at all." He says. "Would you like to keep one of these three to take with you on your journey?" Ethan asks.

"Are there any conditions on that?" You ask.

Ethan waves a hand.

"Nothing major. Just come back when this year's tournament is over, so I can check whoever you take with you over again." He replies.

Cutiefly is adorable. And it clearly trusts you a lot, if it was willing to land on you and fall asleep like that. Besides, this could always be a case of looks being misleading in terms of who is stronger.

"Cutiefly." You say at last and the little guy flutters over to you, buzzing happily as Ethan hands over the Net Ball as he returns the other two without comment.

"No, I think I'm pretty well set." You reply.

"Alright, let's get this show on the road then." Ethan says, walking to take his position at the opposite end of the grassy arena you're stood next to.

You move to the opposite end as a referee clears his throat and calls the rules:

"This will be a three on three battle." He says. "Use of non-held items during this battle is forbidden."

There's a beat as Ethan selects his first pokemon.

The rocks crash down and Weedle is knocked out, only for Ethan to rerelease his Scyther.

"Why did you do that?" You ask, non-plussed as Scyther disappears into the grass again. There're gaps now, courtesy of Rusty's misses flattening patches of the grass, but Scyther is still near enough invisible.

"Wasn't expecting you to lead with your Aron." He admits. "I wasn't sure how well Weedle could take the hit." He adds.

"So..."

"Rule number one of being a trainer is to look out for your team." Ethan says. "Either way, I'm not out yet, Scyther, Double Team." He orders and suddenly, the air and grass explode with movement from afterimages.

He's setting up his Scyther. What for, exactly, you're not sure, but you should probably stop him.

Rusty watches the afterimages before bounding into the grass and landing a hit on Scyther. It's rapid movements are broken momentarily before it darts away again, leaving Rusty in the grass.

Scyther looked hurt though.

One good hit and it'll be down.

He shakes your hand, shaking his head ruefully.

"Good battle." He says. "I was not expecting you to go with your Aron straight away." He admits. "Be that as it may, you won fair and square. The Chrysalis Badge is yours." He says, handing you a badge vaguely shaped like a coccoon that's been covered in closely placed sticks.

Gareth looks like he has thoughts, but he doesn't seem like he wants to bring them up.

Gareth shakes himself out of his reverie.

"Just thinking maybe I should give this a try." He says.

"Go for it." You say, without hesitation. "It'll be a good way for you and your pokemon to grow and hone your skills."

"You think so?" Gareth asks.

"He's going to be a while walking around this place." Fie notes. "What are you going to do?"

"I think I'm going to go get some fresh supplies and a grooming kit." You reply, checking your bank balance.

Ethan paid out a pretty big chunk of change, so you should be able to comfortably afford a grooming kit and have money left over.

She refuses to elaborate further. Soon enough, you're back at the gym and you follow Fie into the stands where Holly is sat alone as Ethan and his pokemon tidy up the arena after your last match.

"How's Gareth doing, do you know?" Fie asks as she sits down next to her.

"Not bad." Holly says. "He's used up about six of the Net Balls." She adds.

"Shouldn't be long until he's back." Fie says, checking her watch.

"How was breakfast?" Holly asks, sounding anxious as she looks to you, the question clearly addressed to you.

You're taken aback by just how earnest she looks just now.

Holly fidgets and she looks momentarily panicked.

"F-father paid for a tutor..." She replies cautiously.

"It was money well spent." You assure.

"Thank you." Holly says, blushing and looking away as Gareth walks into the arena below.

He speaks with Ethan and releases six bug pokemon, ranging from a Caterpie all the way up to another Scyther.

Ethan takes his notes before the pair discuss again before Gareth recalls one of the smaller pokemon you can't make out and attaches that Net Ball to his waist as he returns the others to Ethan.

This done, the pair of them take their positions and after the referee rattles off the rules, the battle begins.

Ethan leads with a Weedle again while Gareth goes with his Geodude.

It's a slow battle at first.

Ethan seems content to pelt Geodude with Poison Sting until it's afflicted with Poison.

Meanwhile, Gareth is using Charge and Rock Polish.

When Ethan switches Weedle out for Beautifly, Gareth goes on the offensive:

Geodude takes Beautifly out with a Spark, leading to Weedle coming back in and being subject to a Rock Throw.

When Ethan release's Scyther, it doesn't even have a chance to reach the grass before Geodude bodies it with a second Rock Throw, resulting in a clean victory for Gareth.

He and Ethan exchange a few more words as Ethan presents Gareth with his Chrysalis Badge, before they part and you go to meet Gareth in the foyer.

"That was a great idea, Alex." Gareth says happily as you reconvene.

He's given Geodude a Pecha Berry and is treating its injuries.

"That was a great battle." You agree as Gareth finishes up and Fie takes Holly to get everyone's things. "What pokemon did you keep?" You ask.

"A Cutiefly." He replies, releasing the little pokemon in question.

"Nice. I did the same." You reply.

"They're great." Gareth says. "They're sensitive to aura, so a lot of Aura Guardians like them, but they're also super-useful, in terms of being able to heal other pokemon and sense the weather." He adds. "Some can even synthesise honey."

"That is pretty neat." you agree.

"So, are we good to go?" Gareth asks.

"Alright, we'll head off in a minute, I've just got to talk with Ethan for a minute." You say, before hurrying back into the arena.

"You're off then?" Ethan asks.

"That's right." You reply, releasing Syurm.

"Good luck out there, then." Ethan says as he accepts Syurm's poke ball.

"You be good for Ethan, now." You say to her.

Syurm nods and chitters, before crawling over to Ethan and up onto his field desk.

"She'll be just fine." Ethan assures. "Do you want to take Cutiefly with you now?" He asks.

"Yeah, you mind if I use the PC?" You ask.

"Go right ahead."

Shortly, you're swapping Fluffy onto your team and after some deliberation, you release Fluffy.

"I want you to keep Blitz company, okay?" You say, scratching him behind the ears to his delight as he leans into your touch.

He nods in understanding, before returning him and swapping him out for the egg Kathryn gave you.

"Is that everything?" Your mother asks.

"More or less." You reply. "You wouldn't be able to teach Fluffy Wish or Heal Bell though, would you?" You ask.

Your mother grins.

"I'll see what Chansey and I can do." She replies and you think you hear a hint of pride in her voice.

Why, you're not sure, but you feel warm all the same.

"How's dad?" You ask.

"He's bouncing back. Been digging some holes for the Fairburns." She replies, referencing one of the farming families in the area. They've got a couple of kids in your sister's year.

You nod.

"Good to hear he's bouncing back." You reply.

"We heard about what happened with those Team Green idiots." Your mother notes. "We're making some calls. It might not make any difference, but they're not going to be finding much sympathy from businesses." Your mother adds.

"...Okay...?" You reply, non-plussed.

You've never really asked about your parents' pokemon journey. Or where exactly they met a talking Meowth. Or how they met Looker. Or, for that matter, about the hot air balloon in the cellar under the house next to the gun cabinet stocked with MP5s and Javelin launchers.

You're not even sure Sarah and Tom know about the cellar.

Come to it, you're not sure whether the accusations levelled against your dad don't have some basis in fact after all, even if the gang he was in wasn't Team Cracker.

"Good luck out there, sweetie." Your mother says following the awkward moment's silence, before the line cuts.

You don't waste any time, just keep walking. It's another beautiful, sunny day so you want to take advantage.

You release Cutiefly so she can warn you if the weather is going to change, but you doubt that there'll be anything to warn of today.

You keep a close eye on Holly as you walk, to make sure she isn't tiring out and to your relief, she seems okay. Or at least, to be soldiering on.

By unspoken consensus, you decide that the most reasonable place to stay the night is the roadhouse you spent the night at on the way here. At your present pace, you can comfortably make it by evening.

All this leaves, is finding something to do in the meantime.

"Probably a day, maybe a day and a half." You reply after a moment's consideration.

Maybe you're riding the high out of trouncing Team Green's thugs or beating Ethan, but you're eager to get another battle or two in today.

This in mind, you keep your eye open for any other trainers coming the other way down the road.

After a while, you see a trio coming down the other side of the road:

"These are my grandsons, Jason," the old man indicated the young man in the bodysuit, "and Charlie." He added, indicating the younger boy, who nodded, looking at you a little nervously. "I'm Samuel Jones." He added, tipping his hat.

Rusty almost does it. He launchs the rocks at the exact moment he's picked up and blown back at you, forcing you to recall him to avoid being bodied. Some of the rocks even hit Pidgeotto, making it stagger in mid air. It's a weak hit, but it still felt it.

His reaction is not unwarranted:

Pidgeotto swoops in and tries to slam its wings into Volta, only for it to clip her instead of slamming her as hard as it can as Volta leaps as it comes in low, fangs wreathed in electricity as she grabs it out of the air and bares it to the ground before releasing it after a beat on the ground as Pidgeotto doesn't struggle, knocked clean out from the clean center-mass hit that Volta scored.

Jason recalls Pidgeotto, then hesitates for a long minute.

She tackles Staravia out of the air with a sharp crack of discharge and slams it into the ground, before springing off and around to land, ready for Staravia to get back up.

Instead, Staravia twitches as residual electiricty arcs over it, very clearly unable to battle further.

"...Staravia is unable to battle." Fie pronounces after a beat, staring with everyone else. "The winner is Alex."

He stares glumly.

"I got really unlucky on that switch." He says, before Volta begins to glow.

"Oh my. Congratulations." Samuel says as you squint past the glare as Volta puts on mass, before there's a flash and the light disperses:

In the aftermath, she's grown at the shoulder and put on mass, while her coat has thickened up irregularly, giving her a scruffy-looking mane.

You fish out your pokedex:

+Luxio+ it intones. +The evolved form of Shinx. Strong electrical current courses through the tips of its sharp claws. A light scratch can cause fainting in foes.+

That sounds a bit overblown to you, but the salient point is, Volta has indeed, evolved.

"Hey, look at you." You say to Volta, kneeling down and scratching under her chin, getting a throaty purr of appreication in response as your other pokemon gawk at her.

"That was very well handled." Samuel says, before turning to Jason. "What can you take away from this battle?" He asks.

Jason looks away and he looks distinctly mewlish. You get the impression you hurt his pride a little in that battle.

"...That I can't just use flying-types." He says grudgingly.

Samuel nods.

"Precisely." He says as Volta lets you know she's had enough petting by bumping you with her shoulder.

You stand back up.

"Anyone else want to battle?" You ask, looking around.

Holly and Charlie both shake their heads.

"Not to sound condescending, but best I don't." Samuel says, releasing a huge Flying type of his own, which your pokedex helpfully identifies as a Corviknight. "I've done a few laps of the paddock in my time and I'm not in the business of fleecing trainers who're just starting out." He adds.

"Ah well. Maybe next time?" You suggest rhetorically.

"Perhaps." Samuel agrees as Jason steps forward and extends his hand.

"Good match." He says.

"Same." You reply, accepting the handshake.

You part ways after that, continuing on northward. It's creeping inexorably towards late afternoon now and you're starting to get hungry.

You just eat some trail mix as you keep going, passing some around as needed.

It's getting late when Holly just about collapses onto her face.

You catch her before she falls and Fie releases Cinder to carry her and her bag.

"It's okay. You'll get used to it." You assure as you start moving again.

It's dark when you reach the roadhouse, now at a much reduced capacity, to the point the nurse can look at your pokemon straight away while you go put your things up in a free room and shower without issue.

There's some background chatter from other trainers as you get dinner and eat, but afterwards, you all make your way upstairs to your room and draw the curtains so you have privacy while you change.

When you're finished, Fie pulls them back.

"Fancy a footrub, Holly?" She asks with a mischievous grin.

She jumps.

"U-um... If that's alright?" She asks uncertainly. "My feet are killing me." She admits.

"Well? How about it boys?" Fie asks, looking to you and Gareth.

"You did good lasting that long, but next time you're getting tired, just say so and we'll take a break." You tell her as you start on Fie's feet.

She gives you a flinches and gives you a kick as you start going harder, before you back off a bit.

Message received loud and clear as to what's too hard.

You swap feet shortly after and continue where you left off as you hear precisely nothing from Gareth's side of the room.

By the time you're finishing up, you can hear Fie lightly snoring from the odd angle she's laying at and glancing over at Holly and Gareth, he's moved on to giving her a deep-tissue massage down her back. He gives you a nod and keeps working as you notice Holly looks like she's on the verge of falling asleep herself.

He nods and indicates for you to watch.

It seems easy enough what he's doing but in your experience, that's just a sign that he knows what he's doing, rather than it actually being as easy as it looks. Still, you can always ask for actual advice later.

Shortly, Gareth stops and tucks Holly in much like you did with Fie, then sits down opposite you.

"Care to meditate?" He asks quietly. "It's a good habit to get into before you sleep." He adds. "It helps you relax, so you get a better night's sleep."

"You make an impression on people without even trying." He clarifies. "We'll just have to make the effort when we camp next." He pauses. "It doesn't help people tend to be more receptive to aura when they're asleep." He adds.

It's basically a group of friends trying to set up a couple among them by voting to whom to give some alone time.
Probably a means to get over shyness.
Whatever happens tho is up to yourself, not necessarily going naughty.
I for example decided on a prank.
Since you seem like the kind to have a girl waiting for you at home I'll try to get the girls to play a different game if you are uncomfortable with that.

"It's a game." You say. "Two people in a group, usually a boy and a girl, go off and spend seven minutes alone." You explain. "That's it. But, as you can well imagine, it's got a reputation for being..."

"Unsavoury?" Gareth guesses.

"Salacious." You say, then wave a hand vaguely as Gareth makes a face. "The idea is to try and set couples up or get people out of their shells." You add. "Whatever happens is up to the people involved. It doesn't necessarily have to be making out. Jean and I decided to have a bit of fun at Kathryn's expense, for instance."

"Ah." Gareth nods. "I get it."

"You got anything going on with anyone else?" You ask.

He shakes his head.

"No. Nothing like that." Gareth replies. "The apprentice I did the aura sharing with was a friend. He and I practically grew up as brothers. Aura Guardians aren't ascetic or celibate or anything, but the sort of girls who tend to frequent Coralview City are... a bit much, you could say, for someone who's used to discipline and modesty as a matter of course." He explains awkwardly. "So, there's never been anyone. Maybe if there'd been any female novices within a year or two of me, but that's not the case."

"Well, I'll make sure to warn Fie's friends not to go overboard." You assure. "But don't stress about it. You'll meet someone eventually."

Gareth nods.

"Indeed. There's no future or gain in agonising over it." He agrees. "I suppose we'd better turn in. We've still got a long way to go to reach Lake Clarity."

You nod, before you both climb into your bunks and almost immediately you're asleep.

Try and practice our aura while doing lateral ladder training.
I'm guessing that most of the aura manipulation skill comes with practice and using it with common exercises for the body.
Enhancing our senses and coordination seems like the best start.
Also the description of aura moves seems pretty identical to the general idea how pokemon moves go so we should discuss this with Gareth when we make camp and maybe try to imitate a useful move from our pokemon like Protect or since we have fire attribute aura try to breathe a small ember why imitating Sage.
Have our pokemon participate in ladder training too.

You wake up early and quietly climb out of bed, careful not to disturb the others, collect your things and head downstairs.

Once you've showered and dressed, you head outside to get a head start on some training. Both for yourself and your team.

First of all, you collect some sticks and set up a lateral ladder for yourself and start running sets as you try and meditate.

>Roll

In the meantime, you try and think on who needs training.

After a moment's thought you realise that the top of that list should probably be Kay O-o. He's the strongest pokemon on your team, but you haven't spent any serious time teaching him moves or training.

For that matter, Sage and Cutiefly -who you really need to name- should probably be up there as well.

Volta meanwhile, is probably the actual strongest member of your team right now, between training and having evolved. She needs to finish up with Fire Fang though.

Rusty meanwhile is in a weird inbetween: He's had some training, but he could use some more moves. And you even have an idea for one there, in the form of Rock Polish.

Sage is 'Careful' so she'll probably pull back on her limits a lot. She also won the race so she probably would enjoy something physical. the 'next' move on her learnlist is Howl but for early morning that seems loud and not very considerate to the others, so the next next move is Flame Charge, which she isn't ready for yet, but she can get used to the idea of fire being around her probably?
I'm not sure how to actually train a pokemon, it's very open. maybe this is just a silly idea

You take a minute to set up a couple of targets, then release Kay O-o, Sage and Cutiefly, then briefly outline what you want from each of them:

Kay O-o joins you in trying to do lateral ladders. Or, at least, tries to. He does alright for a while, before tripping over his own feet and scattering his set of sticks everywhere before stalking off under a haughty thunderhead.

You'll have to deal with him later. Right now, you're on fire. Not literally, but you feel energetic and motivated.

Sage meanwhile is lighting the sticks you've put in the ground on fire like candles with her Ember while Cutiefly is blowing them out with what you recognise as Silver Wind.

You're still not sure what you're going to call her. Cutiepie comes to mind, but Honey and just Bee come to mind as well. Or Queenie, even.

You've still got about half an hour before everyone wakes up, you feel.

"No point stewing on that." You say as you kneel down. "We all trip up sometimes. Sulking like this doesn't make you look good though." you add.

Kay O-o looks at you narrowly for a long moment, before looking away.

You have a point and he knows it. It's his pride that's hurt more than anything and now you've called him on it, he's caught between the options of more sulking, or manning up.

He stands up and pretends to stretch. Apparently trying to act with some grace won out.

Kay O-o joins you and does his best to mimic your moves. After a few attempts, he realises the best way to mimic how you go low for the sweep is to use his tail and once that clicks, he really starts to get into it.

By the time Fie comes to call you in to get breakfast, you're pretty sure he's going to have no trouble employing that particular trick in a battle.

Once you've finished breakfast, you set off up the road again. It's cloudy today and on the cool side, but you're pretty confident it's not going to rain.

Moreover, you think you should be able to make it to Lake Clarity today, or possibly meet up with Fie's friends at some point on the way there.

After about an hour, you give up on the possibility of there being anyone else on the road for the time being, since you haven't seen another soul since you left the roadhouse.

Sure enough, when you start moving away, the Rufflet flutters from its perch and starts tracing you, moving to the next tree it can keep an eye on you from as you steadily make your way up the road.

This continues until lunch time, right about when you're back to your campsite from when you were going to Newport.

The pavillion is still there and in remarkably good condition. You wouldn't be surprised if the local wild pokemon aren't looking after it.

At the junction in the road however, where the signpost indicating Route 1 is, there's a hold up:

Jean, Judy, Martha and Kathryn are stood in the middle of the road, arguing with a familiar face.
