At the dawn of civilization on a mighty Island, a new nation has been born!

After generations of conflict, seven tribes have united under a Great Axeholder, Agana of the Ahi tribe, whose democratic rule has been mired by tension between the richer and poorer tribes.

After securing re-election and stopping a riot between the tribes, Agana stood up to her powerful political family and refused to favor her tribe over the Island.

Now with her metabrother Lono, by her side Agan begins to plan her flagship policy, a massive fleet to colonize the ocean's beyond...
Agan and Lono sit at a table of mighty dreamlog. Carved into is every deep sea route the Ahi people have sailed since time remmebred. Marked on the edge of the map is Farthest Island, beyond which lays the great unknown.

Agana: The Ahi have always been able to sail further into the Deepwater, but the Tribal Wars distracted them, now that we are at peace nothing can stop us from working towards the future.

Lono: Are you forgetting you just told off our moms? Our tribe is the only one that can supply boat captains and they have half the coast by the balls.

Agana: Only half though, Papa Jubu always talked about how our family had rivals who would stop at nothing to get over them. I'm sure there are few rich assholes who would love to getin good with th axeholder.

Lono: These people have been trying undermine our family since the wars, how do you think you'll get them to work with you.

>The fleet is for the good of the Island, I will appeal to their honor.

> Running the Fleet will give them great power, I will appeal to their greed.

> They will listen to me or face the wrath of the axeholdr. I will appeal to their fear.

>>The fleet is for the good of the Island, I will appeal to their honor.
>> Running the Fleet will give them great power, I will appeal to their greed.

Even better to appeal to their greed in a way that sounds as though we're appealing to their honour. Let them say how they will do their honour and their duty whilst their minds calculate what they can make for themselves from this cooperation.
>>

+1

Try honor first, see which ones we can trust, than use greed to bring the rest on board.

Agana: Now that we've ended the wars, we need to win the peace. The Fleet will bring prosperity to all the Islands, Ahi of honor will want to be a part of that.

Lono: So who are we going to talk to?

> Eleu: Owner of many fishing boats, and richest person in the tribe. (They often claim they are the richest on the Island.) Vain beyond relief and often competed with Papa Jubu in matters of political influence.

> Kaimana: Considered the greatest jewelry crafter on the Island, His work with Cowrie and Obsidian is legendary. Spends most of his time in drinking and music-filled parties in various Ahi villages. He is beloved even outside the Ahi tribe.

>Hoku, Master of War. A veteran of tribal conflict, her Headhunters carved a trail of blood through the Island. When the Great Peace began, she retired to a small village where she is adored like a living Loa of Battle.

I think these two will be smart plays to get on our side first. I'm sure Eleu will come to us on his own to politick with us when he hear that we're feuding with Papa Jubu.

> Kaimana: Considered the greatest jewelry crafter on the Island, His work with Cowrie and Obsidian is legendary. Spends most of his time in drinking and music-filled parties in various Ahi villages. He is beloved even outside the Ahi tribe.

Lets get someone who's popular on our side.
>>

Agana: We're talking to Kaimana.

Lono: Ahahahah. Wait, you're serious? The guy doesn't ven DRINK water, how is he going to help us.

Agana: He's rich, well-liked, and desperate to be even MORE well-liked. If he hires enough captains to run the fleets, the rest of the tribe will fall in line, no matter what our parents say.

Agana and Lono walk out the Hall of Peace and witness countless Dreamlogs being hauled by Goatsleds from the Ilsa Dreamwood.

Agana: We'll head to the coast with the logs, by the time the fleet is finished being built we should have our full crew.

Agana , Lono, the Axeholder enteroiuge and several Peacekeepers make the journey to the Ahi Coast. As they reach the Axeholder's ancestral shores they notice how where once villages would come to heap praise and flowers on their Ahi champion, now they only look silently on.

At a crossroads, the main bulk of the caravan splits off to take the Dreamlogs to the launchsite for construction. Agana, Lono, a small detachment carry on to meet with Kaimana.

The Enterouge stops at Pāʻeleʻele, the artisional center of the Island.

Volcanic runoff from Mount Nupuri and close access to the Holy Reef gives the atoll and glorious look, and through the year divers and craftmakers can be seen working to harvest and shape the treasures.

Agana: Well the hard part is over, now how are we going to find him.

Lono: It shouldn't be that hard.

Lono points to a the sounds of loud music and laughter coming from down the beach. The small band follows the sound until they come across a great revel, a minture version of the Festival you just left, dancing and partying loops around and Agana recognzis people using Dream Door in ways that don't seem medicinal.

In the center of the party stands Kaimana. He is working with gloves and his trademark mask on a piece of obisdian, olbivous to the reveltry around him.

Agana:Kaimana

He doesn't look up.

Kaimana: Makana, the Dream Door and wine jugs are over to the left, leave me alone when I'm working please.

He turns around and sees the Axeholder.

Kaiama: Wow, didn't expect you in town after that fuss at the Hall of Peace.
>>
>>5010491
Agana: The Island needs you. The great Fleet will be done soon and we need to hire crews for the ships.

Kaimana: And why need you my treasure? Surely the Greatest Daughter of the Ahi could get enough support.

Lono: This fucking guy...

Agana: My Family wanted me to put the Ahi ahead of the entire Island. I said no, so I need to go around the traditional elites to crew my ships.

Kaimana: I am an artise, not a sailor why would I get involved in your dreams beyond the seas. My world is here.

He flourishes toward the party. Someoen throws up.

Kaimana: Oh that color is brilliant, Eleu, fetch me the pink sand

A small servent person hurries forward with a punch of pink ground coral. Kaiman quickly grinds it into the Obsidian he was working on.

Kaimana: Now begone, and take your tacky Axe with you, I need to focus.

Lono walks up to Agana

Lono: Aggy, I think I can convince him.

>Let Lono talk to Kaimana

>Keep trying yourself.

>Let Lono talk to Kaimana

I trust you, Lono. Work your magic.
>>
Agana: Ok kunāne, I trust you.

Lono walks to the artist.

Lono: Oh great artist I am humbled by your skill.

Kaimana: Oh I like this one.

Lono: You are dedicated to art, so why not join the greatest creation of all, a Nation. Together, on the backs of YOUR ships a mighty fleet will carry our people's across the world. And Your name will go down forever as the greatest creative in the history of The Island.

Kaimana: You flatter me.

Lono:...

Kaimana: It's working. What are you proposing?

Agana: You hire a crew of the most talented sailers on the coast to run our ships. When the rest of the tribe sees the legendary Kaimana with the backing of the Axeholder and the greatest seafolk of The Coast the rest of the sailors will fall in line no matter what my parents say.

Lono: And of course, YOU would design the regalia.

Kaimana: Hmmm... I have found what these drunks sail around in to be painfully... Basic. I'll do it. But I want no limits to my design, and first choice of every stone mined and coral plucked for the rest of my life.

Agana: You have a deal.

Agana: Eleu! A round for us all!

Eleu brings Agana , Lono and the gaurds of the sweetest and strongest wine they have ever tasted. After a long night and even longer morning the enterouge prepares to meet back up with the fleet.

Agana: You did good, Lono. You didn't have to stay with me.

Lono: Are you kidding? If if went with our Moms they'd just try to replace you with me. I don't need all that pressure.

The metasiblings laugh together as the Goatsled takes them to the fleet.
>>
After a few days, the small enterouge arrives at Ke Awa , the central hub of all long range Ahi sailing.

Agana smiles, looking forward to seeing Chief Anuhea for the first time since she became Axeholder. Anuhea was the main inspiration for Agana's idea for the fleet, and the great chief was too old to travel to the festivals.

Agana and Lono walked towards their tent. Aggy could taste the Chief's Haupia as if it were...

The door to the tent bares open and a young woman with long hair full of cowries and a breath thick with wine comes out at bare hugs the two.

Makana: Aggy! Lolo! What's up senpai!

Agana sputters

Agana: Makana, what are you- what are you doing in the Chief's tent.

Makana lets go and poses dramatically

Makana: You are now looking at the new, and youngest chief in Ke Awa history! Jelly , Lolo?

Lono: What? You're not even FROM here!

Makana: I come here every fifth month for the fish festival. I swear they have *the best* Manini.

Words cannot describe how pissed off Agana is.

Agana: What happened to Chief Anuhea

Makana: Mx Anny finally realized they were old as dirt and retired. I think they're in some shack in Pua.

Agana seethes at her younger sister's casual disregard for Anuhea's full name and title.

Agana: That's CHIEF Anuhea

Makana: Ok, I'm a chief now so it's all good. Come come, you would not beLIEVE the primo shit Chiefs get to drink.

Lono: Agana....

Agana whispered back

Agana: Come on, let's get though this.
>>
They enter the chief's tent. The once subtle living space of Anuhea has turned into a mess of empty wine jugs, loose jewelry and half eaten food.

Makana: Sorry about the mess, you missed an EPIC rager last night.

Lono: Most of this stuff looks a week old.

Makana: Ah big brother, always so hot headed. Sit. Sit.

The meta sibling dust off the trash and sit down.

Makana: So you're here for the ship crews right. Saw them come in, major good vibes can't believe your crazy plan actually worked.

Agana: It took years to...

Makana: Mama Keilani sent me the list of Captains , they're already on their way.

Agana: Makana, I can't except a list from Mom like that. I have reason to believe the Captain's she picked would embezzle.

Makana: Uh... Duh, isn't that the whole point of this scam.

Agana: It is not a "scam." It is a unified dream of our people.

Makana: And peace and happiness and flowers and fruit blah blah we get it. Man did a Loa of buzzkill posses you. Look, just let the Captains come and chill out here. We can get drunk for like a month and half straight before the ships launch.

Agana: You clearly have no idea what it means to be a Chief!

Makana stands up.

Makana: Hey. I was CHOSEN for this position. The people wanted me and they wanted me because they knew I could get this shore in touch with the people in power. The Hall of Peace, the Fleet, the Peacemakers, your new little Headhunter thing, our family has the Island on LOCK now. So let's just go with the flow here.

Axeholder trumps Chief, even if they're family. Plus, you still taking orders from our mamas? Phhh, some chief you are, still suckling the teat like a baby, sis.

>Apologize for forgetting important business that you must attend to immediately and excuse yourself. go and find Anuhea.

This party gal isn't going to be any help and isn't going to like what we have to say besides, lets go talk to someone more productive.
>>
>>5012032
The party gal is chief of the central hub of Ahi’s long range sailing. This is going to be the best we’re gonna get in terms of being productive mate.
>>
>>5012039
I'm aware of exactly who she is, she's a useless hedonist who's fundamentally opposed to our goals. What do you hope to accomplish other than pissing her off?

Lets go speak to the other tribal leaders and find out why she was put in charge (she's probably just a puppet). Circumvent and remove her.
>>
>>5012608
And how do you plan on that, with our family being a thorn in our side? Besides, she doesn't even know our goals, or the current rift between our family. We can convince her, because at least this hedonist is closer to us as a relation (and age), and can probably be convinced to go along with us rather that our family.

Besides, we lose nothing by simply talking to her.
>>
>>5012635
>And how do you plan on that, with our family being a thorn in our side?
How would they stop us? All we need do is simply go talk to the others, what are they gonna do, turn the Axeholder away at the door? Bar her from the settlement?

>Besides, she doesn't even know our goals,-
She knows our broad goals, she's a chief so she'll be informed. If your talking about our plans for the fleet in detail it's good she doesn't know, keep it that way.

>or the current rift between our family.
She surely knows about the rift between the Axeholder and her family, didn't you read the scene where the tribe didn't greet Agana as she disembarked and instead watched silently? it's not a secret at all.

>Besides, we lose nothing by simply talking to her.
We lose our valuable and limited time, we potentially anger her while she's in a position to do something about it and we tip our hand.

>We can convince her, because at least this hedonist is closer to us as a relation (and age), and can probably be convinced to go along with us rather that our family.
You think just because they're of similar age and from the same tribe they'll get along? That's just wishful thinking, they would probably have nothing to do with each other if it wasn't their jobs.
Besides who do you think put her in power? It was probably Agana's parents grabbing someone easy to control so why would she move against them if they put her in this nice comfortable position?

This girl is useless to us unless we can blackmail her or get her removed so lets go see the previous elder to confirm what's up asap.
>>
>>5012659
>How would they stop us? All we need do is simply go talk to the others, what are they gonna do, turn the Axeholder away at the door? Bar her from the settlement?
How about delay us until we're forced to take on these corrupt captains, otherwise we risk another election with our promises unfulfilled? We ain't got time to be fucking around, and travel is a time sink we can ill afford to start fucking around with.

>didn't you read the scene where the tribe didn't greet Agana as she disembarked and instead watched silently? it's not a secret at all.
In Kaimana's camp, you mean? Plus if she was partying so much and so long, I doubt she may be aware.

>We lose our valuable and limited time, we potentially anger her while she's in a position to do something about it and we tip our hand.
No, we lose more time traveling and trying to dick around politically by removing her as chief, I don't see the purpose if we can just subvert her directly instead of making an enemy of her.

>You think just because they're of similar age and from the same tribe they'll get along?
>Makana: Aggy! Lolo! What's up senpai!
>Agana seethes at her younger sister's
Clearly they know each other, and are related by family instead of tribe. I don't know what you're smoking here mate.

>Besides who do you think put her in power?
It was clearly our parents that did it, but that doesn't mean she can't be swayed to our cause, or that our parents (or us) can easily remover her. We're better off biting the bullet now rather than ducking around and making enemies while we should be prepared the fleet with proper captains.

Let me reiterate, we lose nothing by talking to her and seeing if we can sway her, and we lose a shit ton of time traveling, and potentially a lot of political capital trying (probably not succeeding) to remove Makana as chief, as well as making another political enemy when we need friends in Ahi.
>>
(Love the passionate debate folks. Had a friend with an IP block vote by phone and they went for "talk calmly")

Agana: Chief Makana, I'm the Axeholder for the entire Island, not just the Ahi. I couldn't let our parents use me like a tool.

Makana: And I am? I saw how hard it was for you to call me "Chief." You think I'm not cut out for this, that mommy and daddy had to give me everything.

Lono (under his breath): Kinda yeah.

Agana: Lono!

Makana: No it's fine, I get how you see me. But now I am in charge, I can finally show to you all just how serious I can be.

Makana stands up.

Makana: Tonight I am holding a feast in honor of my beloved brother and sister. Feel free to enjoy any food wine or person made available to you. I sure will.

Makana walks to the tent entrance.

Makana: Stay as long as you like. Your ships sure will until they are crewed by *my* Captains.

Makana leaves as Lono and Agana stay.

Agana: Why would you say that.

Lono: Come one, your great peacemaker gimmick isn't gonna work on Makana. She grew up watching you practice your speechs for the Loa's sake.

Agana: It's worse than I thought if they're buying entire positions.

Lono: Makky never cared for anything she couldn't eat, drink or screw, this while shore may as well be in Papa Jubu's hands.

Agana: Well let's look at our options

> See if there are any with power in Ke Awa who could help.

>>5012718
See? I told you she doesn't want to talk, she wants to drink and COOM. Stop wasting time with her until we have something to bring her to the table.
>>
Can we get a ghostbin or something for tribe names, members and notable features for them?
>>
>>5012760
We haven’t even negotiated with our sister, she may be more reasonable (or manipulatable) than she may seem. I don’t see any point in burning bridges before we even see where they lead.

>>5012762
That may be helpful, I agree.
>>
>>5012780
lmao, i can't believe you're STILL trying to talk to her. It's not burning bridges to spend your time talking with someone else, we can return to Makana as a later date but for now the more practical and efficient choice would be to speak to someone who inst currently drunk and partying...
>>
>>5012762
(I'll get to working on that. And while I am, while I don't usually like shilling, given we seem to have just two voters in this thread, I would humbly request you recommend this quest to others if you like it, if only to prevent consistent deadlocks.)

Lono: We could try negotiation.

Agana: I love her as much as you do, but you know how she is when she's on a path, remember the chili peppers.

Lono visibly shudders.

Agana: We're gonna have to talk to someone who can get to the bottom of this.

Agana and Lono trek through the village asking around for the home of Keoki, Anuhea's only child. The metasiblings find them polishing a plank for a boat.

Keoki: Holy hell Aggy, didn't think you would bother with us small folk.

Agana: Cut the swineswill and come here.

The old friends hug and smile.

Agana: You have to tell me, what the fuck is going on?

Keoki: I figured you'd be able to tell me. A while ago Makana showed up with your Dad and a shitton of cowries. Started buying new boats for all the Captain's around here. I figured it was buying loyalty for your Fleet but then Ma and them spoke and all of a sudden she asked me to take her to Pua.

Lono: That doesn't make sense, Chief Anuhea never took shit from Papa Jubu.

Keoki: Not Jubu, your *other* father.

Agana and Lono stand perfectly still, a cold sweat forms on their brows.

Keoki: Yeah exactly. She didn't say anything about to the whole trip. I come back and your sister's in the tent throwing rangers ever night.

Lono: How the hell is she going this long.

Keoki: The question is how are WE going that long. She's blowing all our stored supplies like a spoiled child and if anyone gets uncomfortable with it she just throws your Dad's money at it.

Agana: This should be taking a fortune how fucking far are they willing to go to screw us?

Lono: Papa Kane's involved, you KNOW how far he'll go.

Lono: Geuss we're going to a festival.

Keoki: I'll grab my good skirt.

Night falls and the trio arrives with their guards at a party as terrifying as it is glorious. Countless gour of wine lay spilled and broken in the mud. People lay passed out in the dirt ,games of sport are played haphazardly through eaten benches.

And at the center in the place of honor sits queen Makana, dressed in the full regalia of the Chief that clearly does not fit her, not that she cares.

Makana: My people! Behold our Axeholder!

The crows (that can still stand) turns and cheers.

Makana: The Keeper of Peace, The Great Explorer, the Humbler of Tribes, the Defender of the Dreamlog, she who will bring us to the future!... And the best big sister ever.. AGANA THE GREAT!

The crowd hoots and hollers as the trio walks through the festival.

The crowd cheers and revels as Agana walks to her sister.

Makana: Good work, sis. At least someone people like your Kakae the Great speeches.

Agana smiles at the reference to the legendary Ahi statesman her sister often accused her of copying.

Agana: I hope I can live up to it. Thank you for the honoring.

Makana: I meant every word. It may look wild but this
She gestures to the party

Makana: Is what you've been fighting for. Everyone has food, people like me are free to travel and give aide, no one is worrying about getting their heads chopped off. And with you in charge "every one" can live like this.

Agana: If only it was that easy.

Makana: It can be. The other tribes, they spend their days tooling in soil and pig shit, mining harsh rocks. We Ahi have figured it out, we can provide for ourselves without destroying our souls. You have the Axe, you can bring happiness to the entire Island.

Agana: It is up to the tribes to determine there own ways of life.
>>
Makana: You think those Chontou farmer castes thought that when they hiked across the Island to kill your workers?

Agana winces, to this day she is unsure exactly what led to that attack and she holds suspicions about possible Ahi involvement.

Makana: I know you think I'm just a drunk but one thing I've learned from fucking and frolicking around the Island is that every one wants to be free. And with the Ahi on top, we can give them that.

Agana: I can't just use the Axeholder title to have the Ahi rule the other tribes.

Makana: We don't have to rule them, just... Guide them. Like what you did with the poor tribes you hired to build the ships. They had next to nothing before that and now they have wealth and a shared sense of community. And that could be a grain of rice compared to what we can do for everyone.

Agana: I believe in helping all the tribes but I won't let the captains of the boats take what is not owed to them.

Makana: And you think the Chontou with their farmers they treat like livestock deserve it? Or the Taya, who sit in their cities and treat everyone else like mud? Or the self righteous Ilsa who didn't even WANT the fleet because they thought tradition was more important than what the people actually need. I want to build a great Nation to, but I know we're the only ones who can do that.

Agana: And what happens when they run out.

Makana: That's exactly why we need to be taking a cut out from the fleet.

Agana: I'm not going to corrupt the first step in our Island's future.

Makana: Are you against the Captain List because of the Island, to is it just your ego telling you you cant have anyone sully your precious dream?

Makana: Ha! Only you'd have the ego to think that'd do anything. But sure. Papa Jubu's back in Ahido as always, Mama Keilani is negotiating a deal with the Salt makers, Mama Koa is working out a trade deal with the Taya and Papa Kane is meditating at Mt Nupuri.

Frankly, I would’ve chosen the support option to just get this over with, but I got here late and didn’t have the heart to gridlock us again. Koa is our most likely our best bet to flip.

Also, remind me who Kane is? I don’t think we’ve interacted with him this quest, but having a military genius and political realist on side may become helpful.

I'm going to be busy soon, but the way I see it is Koa is the emotional weakpoint in our family, with Jubu and Keilani being the hardpoints that will insist on corruption, and we can use the Taya negotiations as Ieverage against her if need be. Thinking more on this, Jubu may be cowed into complience by us threatening come out with the corruption attempt and try userp his authority, which may backfire on us but will put a nail in the coffin for his ambitions and plans for the Ahi, the island, and our family, which may make him pause.

I do hope we can visit Mt Nupuri and interact with Kane as well though, as we have yet to experience both in this quest.

Agana: I'll talk to Mama Koa then.

Makana: Figured, she always was a softy.

Agana gets up and prepares to walk off.

Agana: You'll see one day that their way can not be the Island's way.

Makana: That's where you're wrong, Sis. Papa Kane thought us there is only one way. The winning on.

Agana walks through the relveries, shaken by the support network she grew up with slowly shrinking.

She comes across Lono, drinking a mild tepache.

Lono: Soo. how'd it go.

Agana: We're going to see Mama Koa, I can talk her out of this madness.

Lono: And what makes you think you'll win the debate this time.

Agana: She wont be with mama Keilani, together they stopped and started wars, that was always a losing battle, but alone , I can convince her.

Lono: We are going about this too peacefully, you're in charge of The Island, you cant let everyoneorder you around.

Agana: That's what being in charge MEANS, little brother.

Lono take a pause, Agan is rarely so formal with him.

Lono: This is getting to you, isn't it?

Agana: When I was dealing with the Taya or the Ilsa it always felt like just another challenge, but against or family? It's something else.

Lono: So Mama Koa it is then.

As the metasiblings talk a loud conch horn blows from the north, at the entrance to the commune center, in march several Ahi Sea Captain's chanting the sacred Oli of the waves.

They stand before Agana, just as Makana leaves her tent.

Captains: Axeholder, Chief we are prepared to serve the glory of the Island!

Makana: Perfect timing, the boats are waiting for you.

Agana gives a stunned look.

Agana: I did not give permission for these sailors to lead the fleet.

Makana: But Aggy, isn't this your "unified dream" important for The Island? You wouldn't want to get in the way of that?

Agana pauses, she knows leaving Ke Awa know could lead to disaster.

Agana: Lono, I need you to stay here.
Lono: But Mom...
Agana: I can handle it myself, making sure nothing goes wrong with the fleet needs to be our highest priority.
Lono pauses and nods.
Lono: You can count on me.
Agana speaks publicly
Agana: My the mandate of the Axe of Peace, no ships from the Great Fleet are to be crewed or launched without my permission. They were made by The Island together and no one tribe has the right to control them alone.

Agana sees Keoki walking up, drawn by the commotion of the captains

Keoki: What’s going on here.
Agana walks to them.
Agana: The captains my family picked are here. I need to talk to my mother about all this, but while I do, I need you here. Gather support against my sister, while Lono keeps an eye on her, you can help forge support against her.

Kooki: Ma was the leader, not me.
Agana: You don’t need to lead, just listen
Keoki:... I’ll do it.
Agana turns to the crowd
Agana: In the name of the great peace, I declare Keoki, Child of Chief Anuhea, to be the representative of the Great Peace in Ke Awa. They speak for The Axee in all matters here.

Agana goes to her sister.

Agana: I can trust you to behave yourself, can’t I Sister?
Makana: Aggy, when have I ever behaved.
The sisters smirk at each other, emotion mixing like a drink. They hug and Agana leaves.

As Agana leaves she has a choice to be made about her personal security

‘>Leave most of them in Ke Awa with Lono and Keoki
>Split them evenly between herself and Ke Awa
>Take most of them with her.
>>

Foolish choice? Maybe. But I think that they’ll need them more than I. If the other anons want to just split it though, I’m alright with that.

(was waiting for another vote but here I go)

Agana turns to the guards

Agana:Stay with Lono and Keoki, you are needed here.

Lono: Are you lolo? You can't go to the Taya and Mom with out protection!

Agana: It's fine, I'll take a bodyguard.

>Keoki: You better take one of the most experienced. We can't take risks with the Axeholder.

Keoki: I recommend Andi, they have experience among the Taya court.

Andi: I will strike in your honor, Axeholder.

Agana: Hopefully it won't come to that.

Agana looks her metabrother and ally in the eyes, then to the guards left behind.

Agana: I believe in you.

The trip to the Taya Highlands was ironically easier with a smaller band. Soon they arrived at Kutha Rakyat, the closest Taya city to the most other tribes and center of tribe routes from the Taya and Ponni to the rest of the Island.

At the red ochre gates, several Taya Spearmasters halt the entry.

Taya Spearmen: Stay back! We were promised the Axeholder would not interfere in Taya affairs!

Agana: I'm not here to interfere, merely to discuss ideas for both our interests. Call the Chief.

After some waiting a palm robed attendant parts the wall of Spearmen and approached Agana.

Wiji: I am Wiji, brother of Chief Joko, the Taya were promised you would be gone if we paid or tribute.

Agana: The Promise was for me not to interfere, I am free to enter as a guest. Or would you like word to travel to Chief Zees of your dishonor.
Wiji squints , he fears dishonor from the more well known and powerful Taya chief.

He lets Agana in.

As she walks , Andi is stopped.

>Wiji: Your pet north Taya will have to stay out, we will accept the Axeholder, not her muscle.

Agana: Very well, I will honor the terms of our deal. Andi, you must return to the Hall of Peace.

Agana whispers to Andi

Agana: Sneak into the city. Meet me at sundown in the center of town.

Andi: It will be done Axeholder

Wiji: With all that nastiness aside, may we continue?

Agana walked through the gates and her eyes exploded in color. Painted clay lined the roads and even the most humble of buildings. Palmfiber tapestries hang from roofs and birds of every color of the rainbow flutter through the city streets

The look of the city is so awe inspiring Agana does not notice how quickly they reach the Chief's Hall.

At the door of the Hall, Chief Joko stands with Koa.

Joko: Axeholder, what a pleasant surprise! Koa, you didn't tell me your daughter was coming.

Koa doesn't miss a beat.

Koa: I didn't want to get your hopes up unless she was busy with the fleet. Welcome to Kutha Rakyat, daughter.

Joko: Yes, welcome. I am glad you can join the negotiations

Agana plays along

Agana: Of course, the negotiations. The Hall of Peace will be able to support your deal, I am just heart for specific details.

Wiji: Amazing, then let us work.

Agana is brought to the Hall but Wiji is left outside.

Joko: We may be a while brother, enjoy yourself around town.

Wiji seethes as the Hall doors close.

The Hall is covered in fabrics showing Taya victories over other tribes.

Joko: Violent I know, but I must keep up appearances for the old ones I ssssed with Taya honor and tradition. Hopefully this trade deal will be the end of that era of the Taya.

Agana: I hope as well. It is hopefully to see cross-tribe unity in this era of peace. How did you think to come together?

Joko: How? You proposed this didn't you?

Koa: What my daughter means is how we were able to establish this deal given tribal rivalries.

Joko: Ah yes, that old swinefeed. You're lucky that the only thing a rich Taya hates more than a rich Ahi is a richer Taya. The western Chiefs we warry of a deal with on of you, but when I told them we could cut out those birdfuckers in Kutha Mardika, they rushed to support it.

Koa: Your trade route idea was brilliant daughter, with the other Taya staying so isolationist Joko will be able to sell Taya goods at sky high prices to the other tribes.

Joko: Kutha Rakyat will become the true first city of this Island. Taya Doomswine, Nupuri gems and Ahi coral will all flow and mix; through commerce, a true age of peace can begin.

Koa: Now you see why I sought him out daughter, truly a man of vision.

Agana pauses, she sense her mother has a hidden motive here, but with her plan laid out so cleanly, it is hard to see what she could be hiding.

The women exchange stares.

Agana: Makana says hello.

Koa: Yes, I hope she is doing well in her new position.

Agana: That's one way to say it.

Joko: Makana?

Agana: My sister.

Joko: How joyous to have family doing well, I hope one day my brother can reach his full potential.

Koa: He is stronger than you think my Chief.

Joko: All the same, he is too young and passionate. I pray to the Loa he will gain wisdom before it is too late.

Koa: Perhaps we could invite him to our talks?

Joko: I can't risk it, if what we were doing became public, it would undo all we worked for. One look at a pretty face and Wiji would give away his soul..

Koa and Joko laugh at the joke clearly familiar to the both of them.

Koa: Don't worry, that fiance will straighten him out.

Koa smiles and pats Joko on the back.
Koa: Now enough business, I must have some time to catch up with my daughter.
Joko: Very well, maybe I’ll see if Wiiji would like to throw the old swineskin around.

The Chief leaves the two women alone.

Agana: What the *fuck* Mom? What are you doing here?

Koa: My job, I thought you would be more in awe of me pulling this deal off so quickly.

Agana: Impressed? You have Makky running a village in the ground just to spite me and now you’re using my name to make a trade deal-

Agana is silenced by a slap.

Koa: Remember your training: Ego is the death of growth. This isn’t about you, thsi was never about you, and the fact you cant see that is the reason we are taking these steps.

Agana stares dumbfoundead, the slap shocking more than hunting.

Koa: The Ahi, the Island cant be about one person, and they cant be about one person’s morals. You value how you feel over what’s best for the Island and the Tribe, which is why you're stressed.

Koa stroke the cheek that was slapped tenderly

Koa: Come one, end this silliness. Work with me to close this deal and we can return to Ke Awa together. Your great Fleet will Launch on the backs of a people thanking their Axeholder for peace and full bellies.

Agana: As long as our bellies are the fullest, right?
Agana snatches Koa’s hand away.

Agana: I’m here to tell you to stop. I won't take your crooked Captains, I won't be a part of your schemes and I won't be another of your puppets.

Koa: Aggy, ku`u lei, my precious I would never have you work under me. We were meant to work together. The greatest wish your mother, your fathers and I have is to see you children become all you can be and join us as caretakers of the Island.

Agana: I am here to serve, Mom, not rule.

Koa: Okay, let’s compromise. Stay here for a week, relax, you could really use it. Enjoy the drinks, the food... and step in on Joko and I’s conversations when you feel like it. Just give me a chance to show you I am on the right side of history here.

I feel like we're losing a bit of the plot here desu, but sure, we can stay for a bit. It honestly feels like a trap of some sort, but we can probably leverage our position here (and the fact that we can torpedo the deal if need be) to get her to relent on the whole corruption deal. I don't want to sabotage the Ahi, but we can't get slapped around and outmaneuvered by the Ahi whenever they feel like it. We're the Axeholder god damnit, not some kid you can boss around.

>Agree to stay for a week

Agana: Very well Mother, I will stay. But only for a week.

Koa: How wonderful, we will prepare a room for you, the Chief will be pleased.

Koa opens the door and golden sunlight pierces the room. Agana realizes she must meet with her agent, Andi

Agana: While you do that, let me walk. I would take in the city.

Koa: You are unguarded. I will send some with you.

Agana: No mother, I am here to speak with you, but do not think that I trust you fully.

Koa:Very well, off you go.

As the city falls to night it comes alive. Eateries sell fine cured pork, pigeons come in heavy with the day’s messages, torches lit on strange clay coat the city in multicolored light.

It is in this town square you see Andi, dressed in new clothes they got from who knows where but recognizable to someone who knows the face.

Andi:Axe Holder, thank the Loa’s we found each other.

Agana: With skills like that, I should be thanking you, you snuck in very well.

Andi: In the Whisper Squadron we trained by smuggling ten pound vases in broad daylight, in the nude. This is nothing.
Agan pauses, unsure if that was a joke or not.
Andi: What is our plan?

Agana: I am staying here for a week to see what my mother is plotting. I suspect there is more here than meets the eye. Have you learned anything?

Andi: Many find Chief Joko dotes on his brother too much. It is clear he is being groomed to be the new Chief but many of the local rich are against it. There are even some rumors questioning Wiji’s parentage.

The days and nights in the City go by quickly. Agan quickly falls back into old habits with her mother as they bond over the details of statecraft. Joko’s bright persona makes Agana question if leading always needs to be so depressive.

That question gets answered when Andi reports. A single figure has been found moving from the houses of several wealthy Taya merchants. Further tracking has yet to locate who this figure is, but the merchant all sem to harbor skepticsim towards The Great Peace and non-Taya in general.
As the last day of the week nears, Koa and Joko plan massive feats to see Aganna off, and to publicly announce their new trade deal. The night before, Koa talks to agana alone.

Koa: My daughter, do you see now what we are doing here? Peace and bounty. What you want, we want.

Agana: I understand this deal can be good for The Island, but I still need to be able to run The Fleet myself.
Koa: Your fleet? You still think so small. Come.

Koa takes you to a shelf and brings out a palm parchment colored with a picture of the city. It is larger than it is now, and the buildings show traits of Chontou, Ahi and Ilsa design. In the center, is the Hall of Peace, larger and grander than any Hall Agan has ver seen.

Koa: You want to build a united Island? This is it. We bring people together not through promises of riches beyond the ocean, but by the bonds of commerce here. Kutha Rakyat will be a great stew of our peoples. Ahi will come to buy clay and swine and trade pearls and salt, Chontou will exchange fruits for Nupuri gems, and the Hall of Peace will take tribute from it all and give it back to the people.

Agana: You don’t want a trade deal, you want the city.

Koa: You have seen Joko, he is a gentle man at heart, and if I know one thing, it is th hearts of men. He will gladly pass over the stresses of rule to the reign of the Axeholder.

Agana: The Axholder is meant to oversee peace, not rule cities

Koa: And what would this city be other than a living peace? Instead of ties to clan or tribe, people will see and live what The Great Peace and the Axeholder brings. You won’t have to bicker and deal with rich idiots like Jubu and I did. The people will love you like a Loa because you bless them like one.

Agana: Joko is on board with this?

Koa: He is. He won’t be able to say it now because of the isolationists here, but after a year or so of prosperity, they won’t be able to resist the people’s cries for unity.

Agana: And the Captains

Koa: Aggy, my darling, when you have this city, we wont be able to able to say no to you fi we wanted.

Agana thinks deeply, of all the people hurt in the Island’s wars and all the poverty that washed over it. She thinks of her visions of having to choose between Agana and the Axeholder. She thought that meant putting her job over her family, but what if it meant putting her duty over her morals? What if her staunch refusal to play her family’s game was hurting the people she swore to protect.

Agana: Mother, I will lead this city. Not for you or the ahi or even myself, but for the people.

Koa: Welcome home, child.
Koa goes in for a hug and Agana awkwardly returns it.

Koa: Now get ready to pick your outfit for the Feast. We’ll find you some spouses, yet.

Koa chuckles and walks out of the room leading Agana to brood. She runs her hand over her worn robe, a gift from Mama Keilani for when she was first elected, its threads are now as worn as their relationship. Perhaps she should--

Agana: Thank you. I need you guarding me at all costs, I suspect something will happen at this beast.

Agana dresses herself in the many colored robe of the West taya style and goes out to the Feats in her honor.

At the hall's table, Joko and Koa sit next each other, on the side of Joko is Wiji on the side of Koa an empty seat for Agana.

Joko: It is glorious to have you hear Agana, I am so glad you are on board here.

Agana: Anything for the Island.

As the guests for the feast arrives the room packs tightly. The server who set your dish is Andi, disguised perfectly.

Joko: It is time for us to begin.

Once, this city was established with pride and glory, but now we kneel for scraps beneath Kutha Mardika. Chief Zees in his vanity has blocked the other Taya from the glories of the tribes. But I say his folly is ou gain! We will open this city to trade from other tribes and exchange Taya goods for their own. The otherTaya will pay anything for fine wines, gems and salts they cannot gain due to their ignorant leadership and we can sell our prized goods to the outsiders for a massive prize. With this wealth, Kutha Rakyat will be the richest and most powerful city The Island has seen!

There are cheers from the crowd, and a sly smile from Wiiji.

Joko: Now, lt us Ea-

Joko' voice is cut off as a splash of blood covers his face.

A server in front of him is struck dead by an arrow!

Noble: Death to the traitors!

In the great hall several of the noble rise from their tables, hiding obsidian knives and hard clubs in their robess.

Blood and chaos hits the halls, the tight crowds form a panc and riot as guests, guards and servers alike are stabbed and beaten.

Koa: Protect the Chief!

Koa runs to the side with Wiji and Joko as Agana follows. A bolder rioter laps to the table

Rioter: Death to the outsider

And is cut down by Andi stabbing them in the back.

Andi: You must escape, Axeholder!

Don't get yourself killed, Andi.

Even though I'm partial to fighting, I'm unsure if that would constitute a breach of our Taya non-interference agreement, and I'm slightly worried that our mother and our Taya allies may need assistance in not getting killed.
>>
Agana runs with Andi following her mother and the leaders of the city.

Koa runs to a a wall, no, she runs THROUGH the wall. Agana and Andi pass through and realize it is palm fiber coated with clay as a disguise.

The five find themselves in a secret chamber a small window with a pidgeon is in the corner.

Joko: What are they doing!

Koa: Calm down Chief, we have this covered.

Joko: They're killing everyone

Koa slaps the Chief in the face.

Koa: Get a hold of yourself, you are a chief!

Wiji: They're out for blood, they're here to kill us.

Koa: Everyone shut up, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this but here we are.

Koa puts a slip message on the pidgeon, sets it on fire with a flint left in the cage and releases it.

The terrified bird become a signal flare in the night.

Koa: A few minutes and we will be safe.

Joko: Koa, explain yourself

Koa: I wasn't allowed any guards but I prepared for the worse case, a Peacekeeper squad will be here to liberate us.

Joko: Foreign killers in a Taya city? This dishiner will be ultimate.

Koa: Would you preger dying?

Wiji: Shut UP Father!

Agana: Father?

Wiji: You act like this big deal leader of men but you are just as into the swineshit as the rest of them

Joko: This is not the time, Wiji.

Wiji: You treat me like some child, when really you're the scared one! This never would have happened with me in charge.

Joko: You just watch yourself boy.
>>
As Joko and Wiji argue you see Koa mouthing to Wiji to stop.

Wiji: Don't think I don't see what you're doing, the moment she came you forgot all about me!

Agana: What the hell is going on?

Koa: Wiji, think very carefully about what you are doing

Wiji: Oh I am, you'll all

Koa punches Wiji in the face, knockifm him out cold.

Koa: I'm sorry everyone, he was irrational.

The tension is broken by loud sounds coming from the secret entrance. Someone speakes with an Ahi accent.

Ahi Peacekeeper: Kāpena Koa, we are here to save you.

The group exists the safe house and comes to a banquet of blood. Dead nobles and partiers alike lay in poos of blood, mixing with the smell of food in a grotesque display. Several Ahi Peacekeepers stand with bloody axes and clubs drawn.

Joko: By the Loa, this is horrible.

Koa: This is a victory, Chief, the enemies of our dream Kay dead at our feet.

Joko: At the hands of foreign warriors!

Koa: No one needs to know that besides the people here. Joko, can you keep this servant quiet?

Koa: And now we have a deal with people who aren't dead.

Joko: Stop! Just stop.
Joko sighs

I'm not happy with this, but I imagine this will do more to destroy Peace than any other. However, the Fleet will be spearheaded by our Captains, not yours Koa. All you've shown here is that I can't trust you with our Peacekeepers, and how can I expect you to put the island before your ambitions?

>>5027667
You're a moron who can't see that a multi-tribal city is better for everyone than 'separate but equal' bullshit. The only thing bad about it is that it was used as a bribe for compliance.

Frankly, it's times like this that I wonder if revealing Ahi political machinations would've been the better play. I didn't seek to reveal them because I didn't want to fuck over family and the Ahi, but I'm starting to think that fucking them over may be unavoidable.

>>5027670
The thing that keeps surprising me is that I keep expecting us to finally talk about the Great Fleet with Koa and leverage us torpedoing her Taya dealings to force her into compliance. Hell, I let us stay here a week to try and convince her, but not once was it brought up. That's why I think we've lost the plot, because we ultimately failed to to complete what we set out to do, which was bring Koa and the Great Fleet in line with the Axeholder.

Agana yells in rage and slams her Axe many times into the hard clay earth. The sacred obsidian chips beneath the violent onslaught.

Agana: Damn you! Damn you all! With your secrets and schemes! Nothing can be straightforward with you, can it? I can’t make one FUCKING move on this Island without running into your swineshit!

Agana steps to Koa, tears in her eyes

Agana: You can have your secret, but only because you know we can’t afford a civil war. And I fucking hate that you KNEW that would be my answer.

Joko: I know this is hard Axeholder but...

Agana: Shut up! You wrap yourself in this happy go lucky smiling “people’s Dad” look while you deal with the same political crap as the rest of us. You’re not above the trash, you just ignore it!

Koa: Daughter, you would be wise to watch your tongue

Agana: Or what, you’ll send a secret kill squad to get me? Or replace me with my alcoholic little sister? You guys are such fuck ups I had to go to another DIMENSION just to dal with it.

Agana: But no more I am done, DONE!

we can cut the Ahi out of it.

Just because it was sold as a bribe doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. We need a place where all the tribes can come and intermingle with one another peacefully, otherwise it'll be the same tribal political bullshit that got us into this mess in the first place. We need to unify the nation, not just play off their divisions.

Agana: I’m serving this Island one way or the other. You can get on board or get out of the way, but one thing that IS certain, we’re done, Mom. I’m done with all of you. No more deals, no more schemes.

Koa: Girl, get a hold of yourself.

Agana: No. It would be so easy to use this dirty secret to get one over on you but I’m not you. I won’t abide by these lies and these dirty actions. I will serve the Island and this city, open and public and answering to the people, not to you.

Koa: You’re making a mistake.

Agana: My only mistake was trusting you. Peacekeepers!

The assembled guards turn to Agana.

Agana: You have betrayed your oaths but in doing so, defended lives. Rededicate yourself to the Island and not to special interests and follow me back to Ke Awa. We have work to do.

The Peacekeeper’s look between the two women, unsure.

Joko: Your Axeholder gave you an order. I expect you to follow it.

One by one, the Peacekeepers form up around Agana.

Joko: I apologize for this bloodshed, I hope our vision for the city will still be intact.

Agana: I believe in the dream of a common pillar for our Island, but it must be done in the open with all eyes on it, not in the shadows. While the Fleet is launching, I will work with the Cheifs of the Island and form a fair trade deal for all, and should the people wish it, I shall manage the city for the good of all in this Island.

Koa: You are still dreaming like a child. If you don’t do this our way you’ll be dealing with us, the other Taya, every idiot on this Island will come for your power if you don’t seize it tightly.

Agana: If my life and happiness are the prices for this Island’s freedom, I would pay them a thousand times over. Goodbye Mother.
Koa’s face floods with emotion and she rushes to grab her daughtr’s arm

Koa: You will not leave me, daughter! You were born for this purpose we were made o rule!
Agana:Mother, let, go---

Agana’s voice goes out as she feels Koa’s eye’s widen and hands limpen. The ambassdor kneels to the ground, revealing Andi standing behind her, holding a bloody knife fresh from Koa’s neck.
Agana: Mom!

Agana rushes to Koa, the tears and blood mix as the wound pumps ever harder, staining the hands of the Axeholder that are futile to hold it together.

Andi: Axholder... I was protecting you
A swarm of Peacekeepers grab the Taya Spy, no longer hidden by a lower class disguise and distracting arguments. Andi is brought to the ground violently but Agana doesn’t notice.

Agana: Come on, come on come on!.... No!
Koa breathes a final breath at her daughter, and then enters her last journey.

Agana slowly looks up and sees a Peacekeeper raising an axe to lop off Andi’s head.

Andi looks toward their Axeholder with a deep melancholy, seeing the pain in Agana’s face.

>Execute the one who murdered my Mother!

I'm not surprised at the paralyzation here, even I was struggling to process what the hell we should do. I'm still tempted to order an execution, but the fact of it is that killing Andi won't bring Mom back, and one doesn't kill his boss's mother lightly. It makes us a failure as a daughter, but we chose the Axeholder over Agana, and I think this applies here just as much as anywhere else. It doesn't make me happy about this though.
>>
>>5028296
(I don't know if making a horrifically hard moral choice makes me a good QM, or a bad one, lol.)

Agana: STOP!
The Peacekeeper holds his axe still, due to shock as much as anything.

Agana: Andi was protecting me, they were doing their duty, this was no murder.

Tears form in the peacekeeper’s eyes, pain washes through the room like the ocean.

Agana goes to pick up Andi, holding back emotion through the words.

Agana: You did your job. No matter what happens, we have to remember that. Everyone.

Agana gestures to the room

Agana: This is what schemes and hidden politics get us! Death, deception, pain. We need to hold this hurt in our hearts and remember it whenever we are tempted to go down the easy path.

The commotion wakes Wiji from their unconsciousness and the first thing they see is a dead Koa -and Agana covered in her blood.

Wiji: What? No no no no!!
Wiiji rushes to Koa’s corpse and cries over it

Wiji: Nooooo,, you fucking monster, you did this I’ll kill you

Wiji leaps for Agan but the peacekeepers hold him back.

Wiji: We would have had everything, everything, I’ll never forgive this, the oceans will run red with you-

Joko: Son. Stop this.
Joko puts a hand on Wiji’s shoulder and looks him in the eye.
Joko: The time for games is over, now is the time for law.

Joko turns to Agana

Joko: I will clean this mess, both physical and political. Take your mother to be buried and do the duty you were elected to.

Agan nods and walks out of the room.

In her chambers Agana washes the blood from her once beautiful robe, tears mix with th well water as she kneels down on the ground. Andi watches from the shadows.

Messenger birds must go out. The Peacekeepers shall be kept a secret but how will the Island think Mama Koa died?

>>5028319
I'm honestly at a loss here as well.

Blaming the Taya rebels may force the Taya to clamp down on sedition and bring them back into our corner.

Blaming us will put us on a collision course with our family, leading to political strife and instability for the Ahi and would eventually force us to purge the treasonous upper echelons, which would include our family, potentially costing us the fleet.

>She was killed in the attack by the Rebel Taya Nobles.

I don't really have the heart to kill off more family, and maybe we can make something productive out of this mess.
>>
>>5028361
I'm also certain the moral anon would object to this however, so I'd like to wait until he can raise his objections and concerns. I frankly don't know if blaming Taya rebels is the right moves, but I know that if we tell the truth, we'd alienate our family. Whether that's a bad thing or a blessing in disguise, I don't know, but the success of the Great Fleet would be put into jeopardy I'm sure, and that's the driving force behind our actions. I don't want to scrap the only good thing we've done, and I'd love to explore the seas while we hold the Axe.
>>
>>5028319
>She attacked the Axeholder and was killed in defense by a bodyguard.

Unable to deal with the death of her mother and the unrelenting pressure of the political games Agana drops the damaged axe of the Great Peace in the sand and enters a depression that she will never recover from.

Everyone Agana holds dearest is part of the Ahi tribe and she can't face them, she blames herself for Koa's slaughter and sees accusation and hatred in their eyes.
Without a shoulder to lean on outside of the Ahi tribe Agana attemps suicide a few times but is caught before death each time, she is unable to deal with her greif.

>The Axeholder is gone, who will be the next Axeholder?
>>
>>5028458
I'm not tolerating suicide or suicidal thoughts. I want to finish our campaign promise first god damnit!
>>
>>5028480
It would be unrealistic to expect Agana to come back from this, she has no allies, she has no plan, she wont be re-elected.
Her mom just died in her arms for god's sake.

It's over.
>>
>>5028514
(Going to take a point to note Agana still has political capital. Joko, Lono, Keoki, her appeal with the poorer tribes, sectors of the Peacekeepers, Kaimana, Zees from a certain point of view... And remember, her parents are the strongest political force among the Ahi but they do not rule the tribe outright, there are several Ahi power centers not allied at all with her family. All this is to say this is personally devastating but by no means a political death sentence)

The way Koa just died was absurd, I think it was foul play. Here's what seemed to happen and why I think it's sus:

>The peacekeepers surround Agana after she chastises them, Koa and Agana argue, when Agana turned to leave Koa walked forward and grabbed Agana's arm, Andi ran up behind Koa past the peacekeepers, in a split second Andi slashed Koa's neck from behind, Koa dies rapidly, the peacekeepers grab Andi who was no longer "hidden by a lower class disguise".

Why go straight for the kill like this? Less lethal options were available such as a tackle, grapple or a blow to the back of the head, why did Andi go straight to killing? It's nonsense to believe that Agana's life was truly in danger surrounded by guards and from her own mother no less. I beleive this was an assassination.

Andi needs to go to trial.

>>5028319
>(I don't know if making a horrifically hard moral choice makes me a good QM, or a bad one, lol.)
This seemed contrived and forced to be honest.
The bit about Wiji blaming Agana because no one cares to explain what happened reeks of an obvious future problem that no one is nipping in the bud for no good reason.
>>
(A fair point of criticism on the writing there, I will try to set up such things better on my part. The intent was that everyone beas so focused in the arguments between the "MCs" Andi stuck thru since they were still dressed as a servant, but as a play I understand what you would be frustrated by such a development. I will be sure to avoid such in the future, or at least make sure they are "earned" via player action.

Though in your regards to Agana, she has allies and a plan and is very capable of winning, or losing re election. There are no "game overs" in this quest. Even a player character dying would let you move on to some one else if you wanted.)
>>
>>5028744
Is magic real in this canon? does Agana believe that her mother could be brought back to life somehow?
>>
>>5028691
I read what you posted, and I think you're being disingenuous. Suicide and a new Axeholder? What a fucking reach mate.

>>5028705
Beyond you not voting to take this to trial, why would Andi risk his life just to kill his leader's mother? I'm assuming he ain't suicidal, and if he was a dissident he wouldn't have joined the Axeholder's personal guard in the first place.

As for the murder itself, I honestly don't know what Andi was thinking. I was getting Mother-Daughter arguing vibes, not Mother attacking Daughter vibes, and going for the kill shot instead of trying to subdue her? I'm just gonna chalk it up to trauma and him not thinking straight.

>>5028744
Unless Koa was going to attack us with a knife, I think this was a grievous overreaction on Andi's part. Just to make things clear. And I don't think Koa would've, really. She seemed family focused, gave us some good advise, and seemed like she was trying to correct her daughter from making a big mistake, not attack her in a rage.

>>5028750
I think it's safe to say that she's dead mate. I'm not happy with it, but that's life sometimes.
>>
>>5028750
(As far as Agana knows, the Loa are mysterious and work in realms beyond. You pray to them, and sometimes prayers are answered. Agana's experience with the Dream Door have shores up her belief in the spiritual, but she does not know of anyone coming back from the dead)

(Seems we are still stale mated. I'll start writing an update with my tie breaker vote but if anyone wants to chime in while I am doing so feel free to .)

The birds of Kutha Rakyat flew with heavy wings. Agana made sure the entire Island knew of her Mother’s noble death defending her and the Chief from Taya assassins.

The outcry was immediate as it was potent. When Agana made the funerary march back to the Ahi coast, citizens Island-wide came to pay tribute to the great Ambassador.

As Agana came to her mother’s home village of Kauhale liʻiliʻi, the tiny hamlet was bursting at the seams with mourners.

Throughout the march, Agana was the only one who never skipped a day carrying her mother’s salt-preserved and palm-wrapped remains. The pain in her arms and feet diluted that in her heart.

But as she came to the center of the village, she was met by her family. Lono, Makana, Papa Jubu, Mama Keilani, and Papa Kane. They each took hold of the dreamlog raft and carried what was left of their loved one to the sea. With a spark of flint, Koa was set ablaze and returned to The Ocean, The Loa’s Womb from which she and everyone else was born, and must return.

The rite of Solemn Silence, now over. Keilani turns to her daughter with eyes full of hurt.

Keilani: How did this happen?! How did she-
Kane puts a hand on his wife’s shoulder and gives a single look. Keilani stels herself and walks off.
>>
>>5028838

The Repast is a festive affair, Agana was given condolences by many who she knew wish they could have done it herself. Agana, not in the mood, sulks alone before being met by Lono.

Lono: How are you holding up?
Agana: Better than Makky, this is the first time I’ve seen her sober for more than a day since we were kids. It’s kind of scary.
Lono: You’re making jokes, *that’s* scary.
Agana: I was there, Lono. I keep thinking back to what I could have done to stop it. I made so many choices every day, it’s like whenever something fails it is on me.
Lono: Stop Aggy, you’re not a Loa. Mom made her choices, and those killers made theirs. You brought them to justice and now we have to live up to who she was at her best, not at her worst.
As the Metasiblings talk, they are bumped by a drunk and singing Ahi fisherman
Ahi: Ohhh, so sorry Axeholder. *The Bitch is dead the bitch is dead ha ha he he ho ho he*
Agana: I need some air.
>>
>>5028839
Agana walks from the crowd, entering a small woodland clearing Koa told her about when she was young. Once there she sees Papa Kane meditating.

Kane speaks without opening his eyes.

Kane: Sit Daughter, and clear your mind.
Agana walks cautiously and sits by her father.

Kane: We know the Taya rebels did not kill your mother.
Agana tries to stand but Kane places a firm hand on her knee.
Kane: Your alarm is as pointless as your lie. Who do you think organized that attack?

Agana snaps her eyes open.

Agana: What?!
>>
>>5028841

Agana thinks back, to Mama Koa and the Peacekeeper’s celebrating amongst defeated raiders in the Dreamlogs, Raiders no one but them saw.

She recalls wondering how they arrived so fast, and why they didn't even know the name of her messenger sent to summon them.

She remembers Andi seeing someone coming from the Chief's Hall to the homes of the anti-Joko rebels. And it snaps into place.

Agana: No!

Agana stands and leans over her father, who stays meditative.

Agana: After all this time, after all this trust you STILL can’t help yourselves. Why are you like this, why must everything be blood and death and lies!

Kane speaks without moving a muscle.

Kane: Have you killed before, daughter?
Agana is silent.
Kane: In this attack, did any rebels fall by your axe?
Agana: N-no.

Kane: In the wars, Master Hoku said life is an ocean. We know only a small part of it, but that its true size is without measure.

Kane raises his hand without opening his eyes.

Kane: Every life I ended was full of potential. An eternity of hopes and dreams, every child they could have raised, every story they could have told, every tool they could have built, every memory they could have given, ended by a stroke of wood and rock.

The hand lowers.

Kane: And I would do it again a thousand times. Koa knew this, as do Keilani and Jubu. The greatest goal requires the highest price. This pain you feel? It is the wages of leadership.

Agana: You are wrong! Look at me. LOOK AT ME!
Agana grabs Kane but feels only hard steel in the form of a man. Her Father stands , he is barely taller than her but carries himself as if he could block out the sun.

Agana: I have been looking after this Island for years. I know these people are toys or animals to be traded and used in our games. What good is peace if you hurt the people we are meant to defend to make it. Every time I tried to do something good for this Island you keep throwing it back at me!

Kane: Does your way work? The peace you love is born of the action you hate. Do you think the Ilsa, and Chontou and Taya obey your commands by choice? This Great Peace is because Chiefs like them fear people like *us.*

Agana: The Peacemaker...
Kane: Brought the tribes together to avoid what we would do. Your idol stands tall on a mountain of corpses.
Agana: I will make a new way, a better way.
Kane: You are welcome to try. For the sake of The People, nothing can be forbidden. I believe in your time, you will learn this lesson, daughter.

Kane begins to walk off.

Kane: Kutha Rakyat is yours for now. But be warned, if you will not do what needs to be done, we will use those who will.

Agana is left alone with her thoughts.

Agana lays in the field for a moment, she ponders meditating on her father’s words before rejecting the thought.

She rushes through the crowds, looking from face to face until she can find her sister. Usually, you could just find the loudest drinking hall, but these are far from usual times.

Agana stops for a moment then rushes towards a small cottage.

The shack is isolated and worn down, it is far from the lofty heights its former inhabitant gained. Makana is outside, leaning against its wall.

Makana: You know Grandas Akahi and Inoa built this in a day? Grandma Kaulana wouldn't marry them since they had no land, so they cleared out some thornbush and made this crap.
She stands up and slaps the wall, flakes of rotted timber slop off.

Makana: we come from something, Aggy, something real. Something we WORKED for.
Makana walks down to look her sister in the eye.

Makana: Who killed mom?

Agana: My bodyguard. It was after the attack, I found out she snuck in Peacekeeper’s and I was cutting her off for good. She got aggressive she moved close, and my guard acted

Makana: They killed her, you mean.

Agana: You think I don’t regret this every moment of the day.

Makana: Regret? I’m the one that sent you?! How do you think I feel?
Agana: It's not your fault.
Makana: Then whose is it? Where is this bodyguard of yours?
Agana: You know I cant answer that question.
Makana: Does Lono know?
Agana:...
Makana: Not so different now are you. All high and mighty but only when there's no other choice. You stationed an ARMY in my village!
Agana: You were Chief for less than a month.
Makana: And how do you think that looked so early on? All we invested in the village and you had to mess with it.
Agana: I have a fleet meant to SAVE this Island and you wanted to stop it just to line our parents pockets.
Makana: Those pockets got you your job.
Agana: The PEOPLE got me this job.
The sisters take a step back from the yelling.
Agana: I’m launching the fleet, Makky. And I’m doing it with my captains.
Makana: I still run Ke Awa
Agana: And I run Kutha Rakyat, with the wealth it pulls in, I can crew the fleet with your help or not.
Makana: We can tell the Island what really happened.
Agana: You have no proof, if you tell people they will realize the only way you could know is by admitting you planned the attack.
Makana scowls

Makana: You really are her daughter.

Agana walks off

Agana: Always was.
As she leaves her sister, Makana keeps talking

Makana: You know we won't stop. We’re family, we belong on the same side.

Agana: Then I’ll be waiting for you
>>

~

Agana leaves the village with little fanfare, her grief justifying her actions in public. The voyage to Ke Awa was tense and nervous, many wondered if Agana could go on.

At she reached the coast, Agana’s eye lit up. Rows and rows of fishermen, sailors, and captains, all standing in solidarity by her massive feet

Fisherman: For the Daughter of Koa

Assembled Fishermen: For the Daughter of Koa!!

Agana is awestruck, walking to meet Keoki on the beach.

Keoki: I’m sorry Aggy.

Agana: Please don’t say that. Especially when you pulled off.. this!.

Keoki: They’re from all over the tribe, when they heard your enemies killed your mother they came to support, Kaimana’s almost gone blind working on the uniforms.

Agana looks towards her dream made manifest, and feels the future in the air.

Agana: Keoki, things are gonna be changing on the Island. Not just with Mom gone. I’m going to run for Chief of Kutha Rakyat

Keoki: What? You’re not even Taya, and you’re the Axholder

Agana: I already spoke of it when Chief Joko. When he steps down he’ll suggest me as his successor. Mom wanted that city to be this Island’s future, but I can't take it from the shadows as she wanted. It has to be by choice.

Keoki: The rest of the Taya won't like that.

Agana: After what I’ve dealt with, debates with Zees are gonna be the least of my problems.

Keoki: There’s the Aggy I know. So, who's gonna lead the Fleet?

Agana: My family is going to come at us even harder now . You're singing up for a lot.

Keoki: We'll pull it off, together.

Later that day Agana walks towards Lono. Who is eating solemnly alone.

Agana: Hey, I need to talk to you.

Lono: Anything, what's the issue.

Agana: I want you to lead the Fleet

Lono: What? There are a dozen Captain's who could do so better than I.

Agana: And not many I trust with my life.

Lono: You really think I'm ready? Even Mama Koa doesn't... didn't think I was cut out for it

Agana: Our parents didn't doubt your skill, they were afraid of your purity. And it's that purity we need to lead our Island's future.

Lono: Are you sure you can do it with out me?

Agana: See? You got some pride in you already.

The metasiblings smile and grasp hands.

Lono: Let's do it then.

Agana: Welcome, Captain Lono.

Agana pauses for a moment seeing Lono smile strongly for the first time since Koa died. She still hasn't told him the full truth. Given the imminent launch, she can probably have him off the Island before Makana or your parents can tell him, but she also wants their relationship to be built on trust.

>Tell Lono how Mama Koa really died.
>Do not tell him.

Ask Lono If he believes some things should be forgotten for the good of the island and regardless of how he answers
>Tell Lono how Mama Koa really died.
then ask him if that changes his mind.

>Tell Lono how Mama Koa really died.

I don't know what >>5030392 is smoking, but I think Lono deserves to know it from us first, even if it does cost is our relationship with him.

It's a small test to ascertain how devoted Lono is to the truth.
>>
Agana speaks hesitantly
Agana:Lono?
Lono: What, I lost my title already
Agana:. Do you think, that some times, things must be forgotten for the sake of The Island.
Lono's smile withers.
Lono: You sound like Mama Koa.
Agana: Can you answer, please?
Lono: What are folks told us, about the wars and the violence part of me was raised to think anything was necessary to keep the peace. But when I worked with you, you showed me a different way. That we can fight for The Island in the open, and we can do it to win.
Agana begins tearing up
Agana: Lono, I need to tell you something

It feels like the world stands still as Agana breaks down the events in Kutha Rakyat, Lono's face growing ever paler as it goes on. As she ends , Lono sits down in exhaustion.

Agana: I'm sorry.
Lono: Why didn't you tell me.
Agana: I was so focused on dealing with all this, and I was grieving as well, it was hard to process.
Lono: I believed in you, believed in this dream
Agana: It is still here.
Lono: You don't get it Aggy, they won, you just proved them right. Your little peace and flowers bullshit freedom city is built on lies and murder the same as everything else!
Agana: Maybe, may e that's what you HAVE to do with the ugly. Make something good from it, because other wise all that hurt was for nothing .
Lono: Hmmph. Life is shit, grow flowers with it.
Lono gets up
Agana: I'll still be your captain, but... I think the space will do us some good.

As Lono walks into the distance for the first time, Agana begins to feel alone.

Launch Day, a massive celebration, food and drink flows through Ke Awa while important figures from across the Island stand in awe of Kaimana's designs.

Agana and Lono stand in front of the flagship waʻa kaulua, a massive double barreled boat equiped to handle a full crew of Eight. Cages of messages pidgeons we're exchanged between the whole of the fleet, allowing communication. Lono stands tall in a seven colored robe, showing his loyalty to the Island, not a tribe.

Agana: People of the Island, it has been a long and hard journey. We put down the age of war and began to wage peace, only to find bloodshed did not leave us. No, Peace needed to be worked for, fee and rolled and developed until it would grow strong and bear is mighty fruit. I look at everyone today and no the Loa's and The Lost stand with us, and see awe in what we do in our name. These great and noble people will take that spirit, that honor, and spread our peace across the world. And together we will welcome them home and share how we have both grown. With this Axe, given to me by you all, I will not slay, but build. A New Hall of Peace, not one building, but one spanning the entire Island. A home for all us , no matter the tribe.

Agana then uses the axe to cut the mooring on the Capital Flagship while music and cheers spread around

END CHAPTER II
>>
(Well that was an ordeal. I know there was some shakeyness there but I am glad that Nationquest is still entertaining enough for you all. The next chapter will be interesting in that we could either follow Agana dealing with the New Central City and all the political fall out, or go with Lono finding brave new worlds across the oceans. So for the next few days I will be taking feedback from all you players on what to do for the next chapter as well as some general questions about the quest and how you would like to develop in the future. I am always looking for ways to make the game better for the players. And once again, thank you.)

WHO SHOULD WE PLAY AS FOR CHAPTER III?

>AGANA
>LONO
>Write-In.
>>
>>5030931
>LONO

Both to take a break from politics and because I was waiting to explore the seas since the beginning of the first thread. We'll go back to Agana's political fallout after this break.
>>
>>5030931
>LONO
Something different than the usual backstabbing and plots
>>
>>5030931
>Lono
>>
Very well the new thread should launch sometime this week.

While enjoying the "season break" I would like to open the floor to feedback from the players and any general requests you would have from the next chapter.

Thank you for playing.
