>INVESTIGATE THE STRANGE BIOSIGNAL… FAILED
>ATTEMPT TO MIMIC THE THING… FAILED

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVOKFEDLwmU&list=PLohYzz4btpaSRpyIibpGVmaIFfzzSSw8H&index=20

Feeling fear rising up in your core, you slowly back away while sharpening your biosense into a razors edge, and just as your back hits the wall, you drive it directly at the creature!

But try as you might, you can’t detect anything unusual other than a vague feeling of wrongness. It’s getting closer now, and you're beginning to become panicked, further screwing up your ability to sense it. All three of your forward facing eyes are locked on the creature, and even though you’ve never seen one it’s kind before, it doesn’t look too unusual. Was it just a fluke? That feeling of strangeness that emanates from it? Just pointless thoughts born from fear and stress?

No matter, it’s now a mere 5 feet in front of you, it’s teeth bared and a low growl coming from it’s throat, spittle dripping all the while. Think! You must think if you want to get out of this with minimal harm, but try as you might, you come up blank. You’ve never been in a direct confrontation with a lifeform as dangerous as this one, and frankly, you’re terrified.

That noise… The noise that Thing was making, it must mean something to this creature. Try to mimic it…

Yes, that’s it! It’s a long shot but you’ll take anything at this point that might delay a fight to the death.

”HaaAAAaah… SeEET! SEET BOH!”

Your attempt has the opposite effect of your intention, seeming to agitate the creature further with the strange sounds you make! It barks at you, and in such a small space the bark is loud enough to make your ears ring, and you can see and sense it’s body tensing up, muscles coiling, that stink of adrenaline flooding the room. You only have a couple of seconds before it strikes, think fast!

>Your own adrenaline is spiking, and the pure rush of the fight or flight instinct is making your cells scream. STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE HARD, NO MERCY!

>With a creature as big as this one, caution even in combat is the best move. Prepare your body, and wait for it to make the first move. We’re smarter than this thing, if we fight defensively our chances are better for staying out of it’s jaws.

>A duel to the end is not the only option. Lower your tendrils, don’t look it in the eyes and do everything we can to calm it down and show that we mean no harm. I want it to welcome Communion when the time comes, not end its life in brutal fashion. We are better than that.

>WAIT FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO COUNTERSTRIKE... SUCCESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-BC2eBu5oM&list=PLohYzz4btpaSRpyIibpGVmaIFfzzSSw8H&index=22

For a moment you almost give into panic, gnashing and flailing wildly, but fortunately your wiser selves take hold. You steel yourself for whatever comes next, as the creature in front of you pads closer and closer... Then suddenly, it lunges at you, jaws snapping right at your "face"! But you prepared for this, and quickly scuttle to the left of it, before taking your two frontmost tendrils and slicing at it, scoring two jagged wounds into the thing's side. It yelps at this, but seems to have resolved itself to this battle to the death, and it charges at you again!

You dodge to the left again, but it anticipates this and skids after you! You back up further and start flailing all your tendrils around in front of it, if it wants a bite of you it's going to have to earn it! That stops it in it's tracks, and then you it begins to circle to the right, and then the left of you, looking for any bit of weakness in your defense.

There is none.

In it's battle rage and growing frustration, it decides to charge through anyway, straight through your tendril swarm! You slice it's neck, seemingly missing any vital arteries, and with blood dribbling on the ground, it gets closer and you actually do begin to panic, flailing even harder and wrapping your your tendril around it's neck, and another around it's right leg, but to no avail as it pushes through and chomps on your body!

PAIN! OH IT WILL PAY FOR THAT!

Your own fury rising, you take a clawed tendril and with needle like precision, stab it directly in the eye, gouging it and changing it's light brown color to dark, bloody red. This makes it try to pull away, yelping, but you tighten your grip and squeeze it's neck while digging your claws in deeper. Slowly you pull it towards you, before opening your maw wide and then...

Chomp!

You bite as hard as you can on it's muzzle, scoring deep gashs, and now it's really trying to get away, but it's energy is fading while for you the taste of blood has a reinvigorating effect! Holding it still with your teeth and tendrils, you take your only free tendril and slash at it's throat, over and over. It's pained whimpers turn to a sort of wet gagging sound as you strike it's throat, again, and again, and again.

By the time you're done, your green skin has been stained dark red, and the bloody ruin of the creature lays before you, one eye missing, half it's snout torn off, covered in cuts deep stab wounds, and panting arrhythmically while whimpering. Feeling the rush of battle begining to leave your system, you let out a warcry, although it comes out as more of a croak.

AAAaaAAAaaaahhh.... HaaAAAAHhhh...

With that, you collapse, exhausted, secure in the knowledge that your foe is too hurt to pose any threat. But, God are you Hungry!
>>
2/2

It takes considerable willpower to keep yourself from tearing into it right then and there, but somehow you do. A quiet voice, almost imperceptible over the din of the rest of your cells rioting to sate their hunger, whispers that this thing is odd and that further examination is necessary before you assimilate it. Easier said then done when literally every part of your body is screaming for assimilation...

>FOOD! OUR PRIZE, EARNED THROUGH BLOOD AND TEARS. TAKE IT, EAT IT, TEAR IT APART!

>Try and listen to that voice and examine it for any oddities. Easier said than done...

>Some part of you feels profoundly sorry for this creature, brought to it's bloody death by uncaring captors. In a way, you and this thing are the same. It's not too late to Commune with it, give it some form of salvation after what it's been through.

>INVESTIGATE THE STRANGE BIOSIGNAL... SUCCESS
>CONTROL YOURSELF AND YOUR HUNGER... SUCCESS

The adrenaline flowing out of your system, you decide to heed that small voice and examine the creature again. It should be much easier now that you're not in imminent danger. Marshalling your willpower against the hunger, you once again sharpen your biosense into a spear of pure concentration, and scan the creature, up and down. It takes a while, but you manage to pinpoint the exact source of that odd signal, in the organ that pumps it's blood.

The heart.

It's sickly and deformed, pumping erratically even as the creature dies in front of you, you can tell just how wrong it is. A birth defect perhaps? You're glad you held back from assimilating it on the spot, the defective organ would have certainly been a bother if you assimilated it into your body, and you need to be at your peak if you want to escape this place. But just as you finish your examination the thing draws it's last breath, blowing out the final sigh it ever will. For a moment you're struck by just how tragic all this is, but it's too late for pity.

Never one to let food go to waste, and not sensing anything odd about the rest of it's body, you get to the bloody work of assimilating it, sans the heart of course. As you do that, unaware of the Things watching you behind the mirror, their leader, the bearded Thing allows himself a tiny, almost imperceptible grin...

---------INTERLUDE-------

TOBIAS GRAY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGWQ3mSAXl8

Tobias watches as his third favorite dog in the research base is torn to shreds in front of him, and while a part of him undeniably feels regret, he can't deny that the results speak for themselves. But, he wonders, will it realize that this dog is a time-bomb? It is, of course, a bit of a risk if the Thing incorporates that dog's bum heart into itself, but based on notes of the Original, that would only be a minor nuisance for it.

As the fight goes on, some of the greener researchers turn away, and he even hears one dry heaving behind him. Weakness is to be expected among many of his subordinates, given that he was only allowed to hand pick a few, the rest chosen by his betters. One of those particular few he chose, and the one that he cares for the most, because she reminds me of my daughter... Julie Withers, has taken an early vacation after her pet was sacrificed in the name of discovery. Worth it, as for reasons Tobias can't understand, the Thing revealed to us all that singular ability, the one thing that makes it truly powerful, full body mimicry. Tobias, of course, was able to piece together from the few bits of unclassified research logs that it had this ability, and it's confirmation filled him with a kind of grim joy.

Soon, Anna... Soon...
>>
>>5055314
And once again, his hypothesis is confirmed as the Thing finishes the dog, but unlike what most of the other scientists in the observation room expect, it doesn't immediately consume it. Instead, it scans every inch of the dog's body, perhaps for over 5 minutes, before beginning to eat it. And just as Tobias expected, when it reaches the heart it carefully plucks it out of the dogs ribcage, before casting it aside and resuming it's meal. We all knew it was intelligent, but this confirms for Tobias and everyone else that it has suprasensory abilities, how else could it have known about the bad heart?

Tobias allows himself a small smile, before leaving the room for one of the few pleasures he has: a victory cigar. One more piece of his plan slides into place, and the resolution of all he has been working towards in the last decade will soon come to fruition...

---------INTERLUDE END-------

SUBJECT 438-C

It doesn't take you long to finish your meal, and you enjoy every bite. Once it's all gone, it takes no small amount of willpower to hold back from eating the heart. A small part of your mind notes that you have doubled in size yet again, and were you to stand up and stretch your body as far as you could, you'd reach up to about 3/4s of those Things. You wonder how much bigger you can grow...

>You've gotten a sizable meal, and of a new type of creature too! 10 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with 30 EP!

The combination of a full belly and just coming out of a brutal duel to the death finally works it's magic on you, and once again you feel that siren song of sleep calling to you. Still, you have enough energy at the moment to do a few things, or you could just skip right to sleep. Decisions, decisions...

>Examine your new cell, especially that vent. WE'RE STRONGER NOW, THE VENT MONSTER SHOULD BE AFRAID OF US!

>Attempt some form of communication with the Things, even though you can't see them, past experience has taught you that they are always watching. Although, figuring out how to communicate to Things you can't see and don't understand is a bit tricky...

>INVESTIGATE YOUR NEW CELL... SUCCESS
With a full belly and the rush of battle leaving your system, you decide to get work on figuring out the exact dimensions of your new cell, and if there are any weaknesses to exploit. Standing exactly in the middle, if you stretch your tendrils out in any direction, they come up short of touching the walls in either direction by about two feet. And you notice that your tendrils have grown with you, now about double their previous size. Looking around, everything is as it was when you were first put into this room, the large mirror taking up half the wall behind you, to the left of that is the entryway where the Things and their creatures come in. The wall to the left of that has the same smaller square indentation, not reflective but oddly shiny. And the final one to the left of that one is completely smooth and gray, except for the odd black spiral painted on the middle of it, with one of those confounding vents on the bottom left of it.

To get a better idea of the dimensions of the room, you do as you first did, however long ago. Spreading your two back most tendrils on both sides of the floor, and your two front most tendrils as high as you can reach, you do a sweep of the cell. And then again from the opposite direction. And once more from the right, and then from the left. When you're finished, while you can't be exactly sure of it's true size due to you being too small to reach all the places, you think you're in a 11x15 size room, while the walls reach up to the ceilings reaching about 12 feet.

With that done, you steel your courage and start the most interesting and scariest task in this cell: The Vent. Edging closer and closer, you try to step as softly as you can so as to not cause the beast within to stir, and before long your "face" is almost touching it's metallic grates. Yes, you feel the cold air within tickling your mouth, and straining your sound receptors, yes you hear the vent monster as well.

Besides the vent monster, there is another problem with it: It's less than a quarter of your size. Which normally wouldn't be a problem, you'd simply turn yourself into a long noodle and squeeze through, assuming you could figure out some way to deal with the grate. Unfortunately however, you have those pesky bones in your body, which were a great help in your battle against the beast, making you much more balanced as well as sturdy, can also make attempts at squeezing through tight spaces a good deal harder.

You think if you focused and gave specific instructions to your cells, you could reduce your bones back into the biomatter slurry they were before being commanded to change. That process would take a while, but you'd save the cells and biomatter that understand how to change into bones.

Post 2/2

Or, you could simply eject the bones from your body, a much faster process. You would however, lose those cells and regrowing a skeleton would be much slower without them. Either way, you'd have to figure out some way to deal with the grate, as you're not sure if you could reduce your body into the soupy, half liquified state necessary to squeeze through the bars, and that even if you could, would you be able to put yourself back together again?

Brute force, of course, hasn't failed you yet. If you were strong enough, you could simply rip the grate off the wall and then freedom would be but a few steps away! Testing the strength of the grate, though, tells you it won't be that easy. That thing is on there, and barring a truly herculean effort, you would have a very hard time pulling it off as you are now.

But! Your new insectoid self whispers it's own secret of it's kind's quiet strength to your cells, which would make feats of strength previously considered impossible, terribly easy indeed! Still, to unlock it you would have to reach the next evolutionary stage, which fortunately feels close at tendril.

With your examination done, and truly feeling tired at this point, you think you may have enough energy left to do one thing before sleep takes you...

>WE DON'T NEED THE INSECTS ADAPTATIONS, WE ARE ALREADY LIFE PERFECTED! RIP THE GRATE OFF NOW, WE'RE LEAVING, EXHAUSTED OR NOT.

>There is plenty of blood left in this cell, and while you are unsure of exactly how to communicate with the Things, an attempt at bridging the gap between you and them could possibly be very beneficial. It's unlikely, but were you able to communicate with them, you could ask for more biomatter, ask why they keep you here or even ask for freedom! A long shot, sure, but learning how to communicate with these Things would only be a good thing. Surely.

>We're all pretty wore out here, boss. You included, wouldn't it be easier to try those things after you've gotten some rest?

>Force your body to evolve, right now. Your cells will surely complain about being forced to work hard when they're already tired, but that's a small price to pay for progress.

You decide to give in to that irresistible urge to sleep, curling in on yourself before wrapping your tendrils around your body. Under the murmur of cells wishing one another good night, you close your eyes and before long, you are asleep. But the deepest part of your mind sizzles with possibilities, of realities yet unexplored and non existent. You hear music, and the screams and yelps of dead enemies mixing together into a kind of unholy cacophony. You see bright lights and the wide eyes of those Things surrounding you, poking and prodding at your form, even cutting off pieces with shiny tools and placing them in small boxes marked with that ever present spiral.

And you yourself are on a kind of spiral, down and down you go, a strange being in a stranger land. Why are They so different? Why are you so different? Is there a grand design to all this? The machinations of some cold and distant God, pushing you all along like pieces of a grand game? And your dreams turn darker still. You see yourself, slaughtering yourself, over and over in a never ending loop. You pulling you apart, and feasting on the remains. You and you splitting away from one another, never to reunite. And all the while, a tiny speck of something unknowable watches, it's small form hiding strange and terrible power.

And it's laughing.

And on and on it goes, this nightmare. After a while it grows unintelligible, just lights, sound and color in a dizzying array of just pure noise.

You think you hear screaming.

You think you are screaming.

Post 1/2

You follow that figure, like a insect drawn inescapably to the flame. You crawl over the bodies of your comrades, their vital organs hanging out, those that weren't shredded. You reach a tunnel, and still that tiny thing beckons you further. So you squeeze yourself, compress yourself, removing the pieces that you don't need. Crawling through mud and muck and filth, for what feels like hours.

Is that... A light?

THE FLAME

And so you crawl, losing more of yourself with each heaving motion. When you finally reach that luminescent figure, you are barely more than a speck, and that thing, what was once so tiny, now towers over you and all creation like a disdainful God. It looks down at you, and you look up at it. It opens one gigantic eye, and inside it a tiny flame floats out, down to you. When it reaches you, the flame rises and engulfs you, painlessly melting your flesh and reducing you even further. When the flame finally sputters out, you are but a cinder.

With that, the giant figure turns it's back to you, and utters a single word:

Soon...

...............................

>You've been tempered by the flame of Life, and now a small fire burns within you... 5 Evolution Points gained! Leaving you with a total of 35 EP!

After a while, you awaken from the horrible nightmare, and after a moment of panic, find that all your parts are as they are supposed to be. Even your other selves seem confused at your panic, asking what's wrong. After pulling yourself together, you take a look around your cell to find that... Everything is as it was. You hear the gentle hum of machinery buzzing behind the walls, and can still sense the faint signal of life behind the mirror. One thing that is a bit different however, is the absence of your old cell. They must have removed it while you were sleeping.

But, before you have time to fully process your dreams, you feel the undeniable pull of evolution taking hold once more...

>You have reached the next stage of your evolution!
>You have absorbed more creatures who possess adaptations you currently have, giving you a discount on: Primitive claws and sharp teeth, and Rudimentary fur, as well as having the secrets of unassuming strength whispered to your cells by the tiny black things! As well as ???? from your ???? with ????
>You have 35 EP left to spend.
>>
>>5057582
Post 2/3

also now that i think about it you also get a discount on the next level of olfactory system, i mean you did just assimilate a dog.

>Primitive eyes, you grow more of the odd organs, as well as more subtle changes within, that allow you to see further and with more definition. Where before you were blind past 15 feet, now you can see clearly for about 30! Your vision in darkness has also improved, allowing you to see about 10 feet where you look in the dark where before you were completely blind. 10 points.

>Primitive legs, muscle gets more efficiently and tightly packed into your legs, as well as the natural skills in locomotion you've gained through experience, making you a good bit faster and more nimble with your fleshy appendages. 10 points

>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controlling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation. 10 points

>Primitive claws and sharper teeth, your claws grow more dense, the core beginning to be replaced with actual bone instead of cartilage. They both grow sharper as well, and you feel as though you are more capable in combat through this combination of enhanced adaptation and experience. 5 points

>Average intelligence, through continued experience your cells become even more efficient at storing, sorting and perceiving information! With this you may be able to stand brain to brain with those Things, and with further specialization may even surpass them! 40 points

>Primitive skeletal structure, your skeleton grows sturdier, the core beginning to change into actual bone instead of cartilage. This adaptation makes you even more sturdy than before, and you feel as though your overall balance is improving as well. 10 points

>Primitive mouth, tongue, and sharper teeth, with this improvement you can more easily identify harmful biomatter, and also can do some damage with those chompers of yours. And your tongue becomes forked along with more subtle changes inside, allowing you with periodically flicking your tongue out, giving you the ability to taste the air and sense your prey better, although not as well as with a proper olfactory system. 10 points

>Primitive olfactory system, continuing down the dubious path of smells allows you to follow a scent for longer as well as becoming more able to pick out individual scents from a area with many smelly smells. 5 points

>Rudimentary scales, these cover your whole body and provide some degree of protection and insulation, keeping you slightly warmer in cold places and cooler in hot places, and a little better suited for general survival. 5 points
>>
>>5057585
Post 3/3

>Rudimentary asexual reproduction, this allows you become a proud... Thing. Through a couple days of incubation, you will lay eggs that, if protected and kept in the proper environment, will allow you to give birth to lifeforms, who will instinctually follow your commands. They will be weak, tiny, and almost defenseless for now, but continue down this path, and you can become a veritable army making machine... 10 points.

>Rudimentary bait defense system, you grow a tendril that's fat and brightly colored, that when in danger you can harmlessly detach from your body. it will wriggle around and attract the attention of any predator you wish to flee from, at least momentarily. 5 points.

>Rudimentary gills, growing these allows you to breathe underwater, although you will be pretty uncomfortable and your gills ability to filter grime and debris are rather lackluster. 5 points

>Primitive photosynthesis, your cells grow more used to the act of using sunlight to fuel energy production, allowing you to more efficiently gain strength from simply spending enough time in the sun, now able to gain 2 EP passively a day, assuming you're not cooped up inside all day. 10 points

>Rudimentary fins, these allow you to swim more easily and with more speed, although they are fragile and damage very easily. 5 points

>Rudimentary pollen generation, with this adaptation you can passively spread some cells throughout the air, which if inhaled by a creature, will allow your cells to enter their body. At this stage of evolution, you would need quite a large amount of pollen for your cells to do much to the bodies they infest, but continue down this path and you may end up making unintentional allies... 10 points

>Rudimentary fur, your body becomes covered in a black fur, insulating your body against both heat and cold, although you stay much warmer in the cold with this than with scales, but scales keep you cooler in the heat, as well as providing slightly better protection. Still, this is a must in frigid climates. 3 points

>Rudimentary cell consolidation, you instruct your cells to commit a form of cannibalism, compacting your form and reducing both hunger and overall energy spent per cycle. Best used creatively. 10 points.

>Primitive adapted communion, you become even more adept at picking out only the necessary parts of the creatures you commune with, leaving a bit more flesh behind for assimilation. Still less efficient than simply assimilating or communing with the creatures, but you are one more step towards having the best of both worlds! 20 points

The changes come on quick. First is in your claws and teeth, they grow a bit longer, while in the inside real bone begins to form! They are much sturdier now, as well as the edges of your claws and teeth growing sharper, and from your experience of fighting the beast and no small amount of creativity from your rowdier selves, you feel as though your ability to quickly end the life functions of others has improved. Then more esoteric growths begin to form. On your backside there begins a strange process, both inside and out.

A lump of fat, strange organs and flesh takes shape under your skin, pockmarked by dozens of tiny holes. The process is remarkably itchy, but once it is done you are left with several yellow lumps on your rear, rhythmically "breathing" and pumping out thousands of tiny, nigh imperceptible particles. You think that any creature that breathes in enough of the pollen will slowly but surely become more of You.

But you're not quite done growing, as a much more subtle one takes place inside, in your communion organ. Your cells have been working double time on solving the inherent flaws with communion, learning more and more what parts are necessary to save the minds of the creatures you commune with, and what can safely be assimilated. It's shape changes as well, becoming much sleeker as well as its tendrils becoming sharper, and more able to quickly reach the mind of the creatures it comes in contact with.

When it's all done, you feel as though your odds of surviving have increased, as well as your ability to escape this infernal place, especially with your new pollen organ. But your sense of satisfaction is cut short, as a whining sound begins to emit from the wall, and it begins to slide open! You only have a few moments before whatever is out there comes in!

>Move to the side of the wall, and get ready to ambush whatever Things come through. WE ARE STRONG, WE ARE READY, AND IM HUNGRY!

>Stay calm and wait for whatever comes next. They wouldn't come in here unless they either wanted to give us something or to take us somewhere else, we should be safe so long as we stay calm. Still, keep an eye out for any chance to escape this room.

>When they come in, pretend as though we were more gravely injured from the battle than we first appeared. Play dead, essentially. It will lower their guard, and I bet that they want to keep us alive above all else. If they buy it, it would grant me the perfect opportunity to surprise them, and from there, bring them all into the Fold.

Hastily sucking in your pollen organ, you prepare yourself for whatever happens next. The door slides open, and in walks four of the black masked Things, holding those now familiar oblong objects, pointed directly at you! Holding your ground, you see that behind them are several of those Things in white, holding what looks to be your old cell, except a little bigger. Indeed, the white Things seem to be straining to carry it, and behind them is their leader, the bearded Thing. The black masked things surround you, and you can hear them making noises at each other, before waving in the white Things. Slowly backing away, you quell your murderous instincts and wait, wondering what it is they want.

The white things approach you, stopping a mere 3 feet away, before lowering the cell and opening it's front wall. Inside is one of those cubes, slightly bigger than the ones before, and already open! The smell of slightly decayed biomatter wafts over to you, and it takes no small amount of self control to stop yourself from lunging at it. The white things motion towards the cell, seemingly indicating that they want you to step inside, but unsurprisingly, you are a bit reluctant to give up so easily. Tension rising, you keep all your eyes peeled on the Things, especially the ones in black. One of them yells something at you, while motioning towards the cell.

But then, the bearded Thing approaches you, the corners of it's mouth slightly curled up. It makes some kind of signal to the others, and reluctantly, the black Things lower the objects in their hands, away from you. The bearded Thing bends down on one knee, at eye level with you, and softly says something, but of course you have no idea what it means. Seeing the lack of recognition in your eyes, he leans back and pulls the cube out of the cell, before scooping out a bit of the biomatter with his hand, holding it out to you.

It strikes you in this moment just how easy it would be to end it's life functions, right here and now. You can feel the Warrior inside screaming for blood, that the gesture is nothing more than an insult to you, that all it would take is a quick slice with your tendril to it's throat, and how satisfying it would be to watch the life drain out of it's eyes.

Still, it and the rest of your cells wait on your word.

>Give in to the Warrior and end this Thing's life, damn the consequences!IT WOULD BE SO EASY TO CUT IT'S THROAT, AND FEEL SO GOOD TO SEE THE SHOCK ON THIS THINGS FACE AS IT'S LIFEBLOOD SPILLS OUT.

>Take the offered biomatter, and step into the cell. At least they're making an attempt to reason with us, even if it is at the edge of whatever those black Things are holding. I appreciate the gesture, at least.

You quiet down the Warrior, ignoring his cries for blood and battle, and decide to go along with it. Still though, you'll do it on your terms. You slowly raise a tendril to the Thing's outstretched palm, and gently push it aside. The look on it's face is priceless, and were you capable of it, the sight of it would have made you break out into laughter. It stands and steps aside, seeming to see the humor in the situation as well, if the slight grin on it's face is any indication, and they all watch as you boldly saunter if you can call your undulating gait sauntering into the cell. One of the Things in black lifts the open wall on it and slams it closed, and once again you are pitched into darkness, and you feel a jolt as the cell is lifted up, and then a rhythmic swaying as you start to move to wherever they're taking you. On the way you decide to eat what's left in the cube anyway, nobodies watching after all.

>You ate slightly out of date canned food! Two Evolution Points gained! Leaving you with a total of 2 EP.

After a while, maybe 20-30 minutes of swaying and being jostled around, you finally feel yourself being lowered, and after another five minutes of waiting, the wall pops open. Tentatively looking outside with your eye tendril, you cautiously step out and examine your new surroundings. You're in a room you've never been in before, but the strange thing is that the walls around you only raise up by about 5-6 feet, with open air above, reaching up all the way to the ceiling. You only have walls on your left and right, and as you look, the hallway stretches out in both directions in front and behind you, before the one in front veers to the left and the one behind veering to the right. Faintly, you sense two separate life signals, one somewhere ahead and the other somewhere behind. But they both strike you as odd somehow.

The one ahead of you stinks of adrenaline and fear, and you can taste blood in the air, along with hearing a quiet bleating, sounding rather panicked. The one behind is much odder than even the one in front, as it's signal feels somehow... Empty. Standing on your back legs and stretching your body as high as you can, you can just barely raise your eye tendril above the wall, and while you can't see into the hallway next to you, you do notice that this room is huge, stretching at least a hundred yards in every direction. With your ever present hunger in mind, you make a decision.

>Go forwards, towards the stink of adrenaline and the smell of blood.

>Go backwards, towards that creepily empty biosignal.

>Refuse to play this dumb game and remain where you are. You are not some animal to be tested on!

>Attempt to climb the wall and circumvent having to find your way through these halls, although climbing over will be difficult, and maintaining your balance while on top even more so.

The most basic way would be ant pheromones, they do this all the time to mark way from food to nest and such, but we lack the specializations for that, I think.
Maybe something to do with our rudimentary olfactory system and pollen, but it may be too little to do the job.

Im down with playing their game, at least for as long as its reasonable.
If its become too troublesome or they try some bullshit with shifting wall and stuff, its rooftops time.

>FIND YOUR WAY THROUGH THE MAZE TO THE EMPTY BIOSIGNAL... SUCCESS
>PONDER A WAY OF MARKING THE CORRIDORS YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH... SUCCESS

Against several of your better judgements, you decide to head towards that eerie signal. Of course, if only it was as simple as heading straight towards it. Your captors have set up a kind of maze in this gigantic room, and before long you find yourself back where you started after making many twists and turns. You quell your frustration and decide to mark where you've been, hopefully simplifying the process a great deal. With your newly sharpened claws, you test them on the walls and find that, after applying a decent amount of force, you can scratch deep grooves into them.

And so you make your way through the maze, at first only keeping right until you hit a dead end, and with your claw marks acting as guides, you retrace your steps until you reach a spot you haven't been. You perform this process at least a dozen times, getting closer and closer to the signal with each loop around. After about an hour and a half spent finding your way, you happen upon one of the few halls that haven't been scratched up, and realize that you're the closest to the strange signal that you've been the whole time you've been in this room. Sometime during your exploration, a small part of you notes that the cries of pain on the other end of the maze have stopped, and the lifesignal it was putting out became cold and dead.

Steeling yourself for whatever lays ahead, you creep down the hall, the signal growing stronger the whole time, and now it's emptiness is very noticeable now. You reach the end of the hall, and as you turn down the last corner leading to it, what you see surprises even you.

It's one of those Things, laying down on some kind of bed and hooked up to various kinds of buzzing and beeping machinery. It's one of the younger examples of it's kind, and you note that it's appearance reminds you of the high pitched Thing, the one who's pet you Communed with. A closer examination reveals that no, it's just a female, although obviously very gaunt and malnourished. Examining the room it's in, you see nothing other than it, the bed, the walls and another one of those strange reflective rectangles on the wall behind it. Straining your biosense, you feel several of those Things behind it, one in particular feeling very familiar, but you can't quite place it.

As you approach it, you half expect a dozen of those black masked Things to burst in, screaming gibberish and pointing those metallic objects at you, but you get closer and closer and detect no change in either your environment or the female. You're half tempted to touch it, having never been so close to one of those Things without the threat of violence looming over.

Still, now that you've reached the end of the maze, you wonder what exactly it is they expect you to do here. Surely they wouldn't give up one of their own kind just for you to assimilate, right?
>>
Now only a few feet away from it, you wonder what you should do next. And in the back of your mind, the feeling of emptiness is very strong now, like the lights are on but no Things are home...

>>
>>5061669
You examine it from top to bottom, and other than the severe malnourishment, you can detect nothing wrong with it. Looking deeper with your biosense, while this Thing is alive, it's life signal is completely different than anything else you've experienced in your short time since becoming aware of yourself. You make several vocalizations, repeating the few phrases you remember hearing from those other Things, to no reaction at all.

Growing bolder, you slowly raise a tendril and as gently as you can, poke it in the face. If it felt it, it gives no reaction and it's eyes remain closed, it's breathing shallow but steady.

It's almost like it's asleep, but just merely being asleep wouldn't make it feel so strange.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's sick. But what kind of sickness makes one dead to the world, I don't know.

THIS THING IS WRONG. PUT IT OUT OF IT'S MISERY AND BE DONE WITH IT. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO ASSIMILATE IT, WHO KNOWS IF WHATEVER IT HAS IS CONTAGIOUS.

I say either try
A: communing with her (think of the knowlegde we can gain, we can learn their language and their way of thinking)
B: use our new pollens on her. If she is in a coma she can't put on any fight she will breath a lot of pollens in.

Thoroughly investigate it's body to determine what is wrong with it, then try to commute with it while keeping out the harmful parts.
The Thing's knowledge is too valuable to pass up.

Would diseases even "work" on us ? I assume we can just assimilate any bacteria in our body and be done with it. If it's not a disease, we just ignore whatever body parts are not working. Unless the problem is the brain, we kinda need that.

I'm assuming this is Anna? And mister bearded Thing plans on having us become his daughter or something? Could be fun to play along for a while

You look over the machinery, and try as you might you can't make heads or tendrils of it. Various objects made of plastic and metal and glass, all hooked up to the Thing in one way or another, some beeping, some buzzing, and one that makes a rhythmic breathing motion in time with the Thing's own breaths. You suspect that it is what is keeping this Thing alive, but as unfamiliar as you are with the Things you are even more unfamiliar with their technology.

>CLOSELY EXAMINE THE THING AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT... SUCCESS

A cursory glance reveals the obvious, that for whatever reason this Thing has been unable to eat or exercise for a extended period of time. Remembering it's lack of reaction when you attempted to speak to it and when you touched it, and deciding that its not simply sleeping, you decide to use your biosense to take a deeper look into this Thing. Taking a couple of minutes to sharpen your sense into a razors edge, you finally drive it at the creature, top to bottom twice over. What you notice is that the source of the empty feeling you get from it is coming form it's head, and due to your experience with other mammals in this strange place, you assume that is where it's brain is, and in turn, it's soul.

You come to the conclusion that this Things brain is damaged, and while you can't quite tell the extent of the damage, it was enough to cause it's normal brain functions to break down, where neurons stopped talking to each other and entered into a kind of hibernation. You're unsure if Communing with it would be dangerous, but you think if you leave out the brain should you decide to assimilate it, you should be safe from taking on any faulty cells. Still, you almost feel sorry for this Thing, and you wonder what happened to it that caused it's body to collapse to such an extent. Perhaps if you did Commune with it, you could save the soul lurking within...

Once again you are struck by just how fragile these Things are. Something as simple as an accident or a little knock on the head, and they're dead or worse. And right now you're looking at worse. You wonder what kind of person this Thing was, before it became this. Was it kind? Was it loved by its progenitors, did it have love for it's parents, for it's own kind? Did it feel empathy for those worse off than itself, like you do now? Compared to your captors, this Thing is young indeed, and the fact that it's going to spend the rest of it's life unconscious, trapped in a flesh prison where the only way out is death, makes you truly sad.

A true ghost in the machine.

And as you ponder on the fragility of these Things, and of life itself, you once again notice how truly different you are from the rest. You grow and change, not over the course of eons but in mere moments. No part of you is so vital that to lose it would be to lose yourself, and your whole consciousness isn't trapped in one easily damaged area, but spread out across your entire form, and not just your consciousness, but your selves as well. Each cell is a tiny soul, each organ has a will, and they don't just cooperate because they have to, but because you are all truly comrades, a bond that no individual lifeform will ever understand. And as you ponder on the nature of life, your newest organ pipes up. It reminds you of it's purpose, to spread You around into other lifeforms, to end their horrible individuality, to end their wretched loneliness. But, it tells you, it has another function as well, previously unconsidered: Your pollen cells don't have to take over their host, they can instead merge with damaged organs, and with the very essence of Life itself flowing through them, they can change their own structure at will, mending wounds, putting broken synapses back together again, every individual cell as malleable as clay, able to take on any role with ease.

All you have to do is give the order.

So you do.

Gingerly climbing up onto the bed, you make your pollen organs go into overdrive, spreading as much as you can into the air directly in front of the Things breathing hole. At first, it gives no reaction, even as a dozen minutes pass and it's inhaled almost everything you have to give. So you give more. And more, and more and more, until it starts to hurt, and still you keep giving. Eventually, after an indeterminate amount of time, you stop. Even if you wanted to give more, and you do, you're truly spent. Exhausted and in more than a little pain, you almost give up hope, writing it off as a wasted effort, that some broken dolls can't be put together again, when you sense it. That vast, overwhelming emptiness begins to fill in. At first, just a bit, so subtle that you almost wouldn't notice it if you hadn't been devoting all your attention to this Thing. But it's there alright, and it's growing.
>>
>>5062623
It builds like a wave, that void filling up more and more with... With Life. And it's not just under the surface, you watch, amazed, as her cheeks begin to fill in, no longer looking so gaunt. Her belly, what was once so sunken in it almost reminded you of your own hunger, fills in and in until it reaches a size that would be normal in a adolescent female of it's type. Arms, legs, they all gain definition, growing plumper and then stopping at what would be considered healthy and normal for one of those Things. And you sense it as well, the emptiness being replaced with pure Life, filling in faster and faster until it blazes like a star.

And just before you begin to feel overwhelmed, it stops. Her breathing normalizes, and to your astonishment and your joy you watch as her eyelids slowly begins to open, before fluttering and revealing eyes colored by a vibrant green. And to your shock, you see no fear in them, just the look of mild confusion one has after they have woken up from a very deep and vivid dream. She makes eye contact with you, and you two stay like that for a while, the Thing and her unlikely savior.

Then, after a short while, she opens her mouth and says something, and you are struck by the beauty of her voice, reminding you of some of the Things you heard back in your old cell, when you first experience the joy of music. If only you could understand her! If only you could understand them, and they you, you could do so much for these pitiful Things...

But you don't have much time to wallow in your frustration, as she slowly raises her hand, reaching towards you...

Excited for whats coming qm!

For my fellow Anons, our main goal is the assimilation/communion of all life, with our new found mouthpiece being this little girl, whats our short term? I honestly feel like we should go down a cult route, weve healed her and with our pollen we can probably get passive followers throughout this facility once shes seperated from us

i wonder if we should sort of act sickly after this perhaps ad some wrinkles and folds to our skin play up what it took out of us.

Seeing her now, healed and full of life, just melts your blood pumping organs. You can't help but to indulge her, leaning forward and pushing your "face" into her hand. You note the softness of her hands, and as she begins petting you, you feel a sense of comfort and just plain goodness, the fruit of your hard labor being the beautiful Lifeforce that suffuses every inch of her being. Without even realizing, you start to curl up on her lap, and unconsciously begin that thing that indicates the highest levels of joy on this world, the purring phenomena. She laughs at this, a lilting sound that is just as beautiful as her speaking voice. Still though, while you find the very concept of individuality abhorrent, you are a bit worried about how she will fit back into the outside world, with so much You in her. But, just glancing through her body with your biosense, you can't feel any of the raw energy and pure Life that flows through your cells.

No, as far as you can tell, your cells that have healed her body have changed completely from what they were within you, seemingly changing into the quiet inert cells that is inherent to the lifeforms of this world. And while you can't be too sure, you think that if she were to be examined by a Thing familiar with their body structure, her body would just seem to be a baseline Thing, albeit at the peak of health. You think that with the slight changes and upgrades your pollen cells couldn't stop themselves from making, she will remain in peak physical health for a very long time indeed.

And so you two stay like that for a time, the unlikeliest of compatriots, bonded over not only your act of compassion, but also that special connection that forms when two people who are used to pain, bitterness and disregard, have finally made a real connection with another living being.

And slowly, without even noticing it, your exhaustion takes hold, and you fall asleep in her lap, except this time, your dreams are warm and full of light...

I'd almost recommend you to read The Things short story by Peter Watts, as it may shed some light on that, but then everyone would know how lazy and uncreative I am kek, as this quest is mainly inspired by that short story. But seriously, everyone who enjoys this quest should read the short story, it's fantastic.

>We are the vegan equivalent of the Things right?
Not really, so far you've had veggies one time from a can, but otherwise you're almost exclusively assimilated meat. Depending on your choices, your preferences can change as well as your ethics and abilities regarding assimilation and Communion. So far you've tried to be diplomatic multiple times, as well as frequently showing empathy, so the Creatures character has and will change to reflect that. And the opposite is true as well, if you choose to give in to the warrior or the survivor frequently, then the way the MC thinks about and interfaces with the world will change, more animalistic and Id driven if you are violent and constantly stuffing your face, more cold and aloof if you choose to avoid danger or forming connections from Communion and etc.

THE DECADE LONG STRUGGLE

...................................

TOBIAS GRAY

There was a good amount of kickback for using the comatose girl, but one of the perks of being the director of your own black research site is that sometimes you get to make executive decisions. And now, no one will doubt me. They can't. Not after this. Not only have another one of my theories been proven, that subject 438-C, lovingly nicknamed "Thing" by the base staff, has some kind of psychic ability to detect not only living beings, but raw flesh as well. This was demonstrated clearly when it found it's way through the maze, showcasing another example of it's growing intelligence by marking it's path by scratching the walls, and constantly moving forward towards the girl, never once backtracking except to find a new route that would lead to her. And the other, game changing theory, that every cell in it's body was a kind of super stem cell, not only able to change the structure of any organic material into more of it, but to change itself as well, seemingly able to heal any ailment so long as enough of the Things cells were applied. This discovery would place me among some of the greatest scientist and researchers who have ever lived, the man who discovered the cure to everything.

Not that I cared.

I will admit to some small amount of nervousness when 438-C approached the girl and put a clawed tendril right in front of her face. For a moment, I almost thought that this Thing would start tearing her to shreds, seeing as it seems to have a bottomless hunger that only increases in strength as it grows, but no, it did what nobody but me honestly expected, it healed her. Somehow it had grown a new external organ without us noticing, and while nobodies quite sure what this new growths purpose originally was, it can spread the Thing's cells throughout the air, which if inhaled, can induce miraculous healing.

Of course, we had taken samples of it's flesh and blood before, hoping to prove my theory early on, but all it did when introduced to sick and injured creatures, mostly pigs, was turn them into more Things. Utterly useless, and when all those tests with it's blood turned out as bunk, I did begin to lose hope. Just a little. But it gave me the idea that perhaps the Thing itself must give "permission" for it's cells to be used that way, to heal instead of consume. And now, now I feel like a young undergraduate again, working on the very bleeding edge of science! It was moments like that that made me get into science in the first place, the feeling of satisfaction when a theory you had been working on for months or years turned out to be correct, it was... it was intoxicating, better than any drug.
>>
Post 2/3

But... the real reason I'm so happy that the theory turned out to be true is because now, after a decade of sweat, tears, and more than a few drops of blood, I can finally save her... Anna, my sweet...

Still, there's a bit more work to do before I put that monster in front of my daughter. Many tests have to be run on the girl, Sophia something or another. And if it turns out all good, that she's still more or less a human after being brought back by that thing, then perhaps I could convince my betters to let her go back to... wherever she was before she came here.

Soon, the fruition of all I have been working towards these past ten years, 138 days, 14 hours and 11 minutes will be at hand.

Soon...

............................................

Subject 438-C "The Thing"

When you awaken, you're back in your cell. You look around but can see no sign of the female, but... You sense something. Much farther than you can usually feel with your biosense, you sense a familiar signal, that of the girl. She seems to be in good health, and based on the intensity of the signal, relaxed. You don't know how, but it seems as though your connection with the girl is more than just emotional, as you very clearly feel her signal despite her being quite a distance away. And yet, while you can still sense some Things behind the mirror, their signal is much fainter and hard to pinpoint. Curious, you wonder if she can also feel you, or if this is just another of your unique abilities.

However, you don't even need your biosense to be able to see the large pile of biomatter in the middle of your cell, made up of a mishmash of various cuts of meat each from a different life form, vegetables, fruit, and a strange thing that's not quite raw vegetable matter and not quite a cooked meal. Is this your reward for saving the Thing? You'll take it, saving that female took quite a lot out of you and now you're positively ravenous! You don't hold back and get to work practically inhaling the biomatter, jumping on the pile and stuffing your face, your skin splitting open when your mouth becomes too full and pulling the feast directly into your body. There's so much, that you're not done eating until half an hour later.

>The good Samaritans reward is yours! 15 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 42 EP!

When it's all gone and you've finished licking up the stray chunks and juices off the floor, you feel energized and ready to take on anything! And you notice, you've grown in size again, now only just a bit smaller than a tall Thing, you think that if you grow much bigger you'll begin to have a hard time getting around, with your limbs being as rudimentary as they are.
>>

The pollen is tempting but that would be a little too obvious and our pollen organs may not be good enough to do it quickly.
The girl looks like our best asset so far.

It looks like we're going with becoming a nice monstrosity from outer space instead of the kill everything monstrosity from outer space.

I would vote for the pollen option, but I don't think our organ is evolved enough to pull off a facility wide infection. It took everything we had to seemingly infect one girl right in front of us.
>>
>>5064523
Also its the whole facility and the measly amount we produce all we will do is have them increase containment and waste our energy
>>5064422
>>5064508
>>5064522
I am okay with infecting but all it does is increase containment and make that ability useless with airfilters and we SIMPLY CANT MAKE ENOUGH POLLEN
>>
>>5064618
They might figure out what we are doing after a little while, but by then most if not at least some of them will be infected by us.

It took us a while to revive the girl using all of our spores admittedly, but even if we manage to infect some them a little bit, over time even the tiniest amount of spores will overwhelm their immune system and turn them into biomass for us. At least, that's what I theorize will happen, but I see no reason it can't. If normal germs and viruses can kill humans, why cant a hyper evolved ball of flesh cells?
>>
>>5064652
>>5064618
>>5064442
You passively release pollen either way, that choice just is an attempt to speed up the process and get more people infected/speed up the infection process. I realize now that the choice is kind a dumb with having you go directly in front of the vent, so instead if you vote for that you'll just be acting normal inside your cell, while making your pollen organs release as much as possible. It will get inside the vent system either way, but at least the updated choice will be a little less obvious.
>>
>>5064667
Oh yeah, that's probably the infinitely smarter way. Survivor and all of that.

I think all of the people who voted for it (like me) would find that change to be fine.

It's a little complicated, the default mode of the spores is to take over the bodies of their hosts, consuming their cells and using it to make more of themselves, which means more consumed cells and more spores taking over, kind of like a cancer. You can give your pollen organs specific orders to say, use your spores to replace damaged tissue in a creature, for example. But basically once a living being inhales your spores, no matter how little, a unavoidable process takes place, and at say 15-25% infection they will be much more inclined to help you, and will start to develop a ravenous hunger. At 50% infection they will they will have a very hard time trying to convince themselves to stop you, will be inclined to help you in whatever way possible and will feel as if they're starving 24/7, as well as strange new organs growing inside their body, making them tougher, faster, and stronger as well as having accelerated healing.. At 75% infection they begin to have growths appear on the outside of their body as well, and now only vaguely resemble whatever the baseline is for their species. At 100% infection they will follow all your orders to the letter and will be totally unable to try and harm you and have completely changed into a Thing, no longer resembling what they were before at all, as well as becoming much stronger, faster, and tougher, and can heal from wounds that would be fatal to a normal creature of their species, with a little time and a good helping of biomatter.

You can order your pollen cells to do specific things to the ones they infect, such as not changing their outside appearance, allowing them to keep their sense of individuality and free will, to heal them and a lot of other things you can think of, but the default infection is a slow process where by the end they will have changed into a Thing.
>>
>>5064781
But to answer you question, even if they have reached 100% infection they will still be a separate personality from you, but they will innately trust you, want to protect you and cannot deny your orders.
>>
>>5064808
At the level of pollen you have right now, it would either take a ton of pollen directly in it's lungs to quickly infect someone, otherwise it's rather slow. Upgrading the pollen adaptation both increases the rate at which infection progresses, and also lowers the amount of pollen needed to quickly infect a host, as well as increasing your ability to produce more pollen.

Thanks for the answer, my original post came off as a little cringe worthy so I deleted it to fix but got sidetracked.
Okay guys I think we need to keep tight control of our pollen right now, alter it using our evolution points so it at least doesn't look like a zombie apocalypse with a heavy dose of mind control. Though having animals and bugs and what not fully mind controlled would be a good safety feature so they don't start a exponential chain of havoc.

COMMUNICATE...SUCCESS

Beyond just the emotional connection you formed with the young Thing, it feels as though you have formed another, deeper, connection. Like your souls are linked. You decide to try and see if you can do anything with this unique connection, not just because you want to see or talk to her again, but also due to the information and even the possible chance at escape you have to gain. And while you consider making your pollen organs go into overdrive again to try and infect the Things in... whatever place this is, you feel as though it would be too soon. And if you're being honest, you're not sure if your pollen adaptation is up to snuff.

So you do the first thing that comes to mind, and focus your senses on the biobond, shutting out the outside world, retreating within yourself. At first, there's nothing, just the sense of knowing where she is, how she's feeling, but when you try to send a signal out to her, you get nothing back. So you try harder, focusing every cell in your body on strengthening the signal, sending mental images, half remembered phrases you've heard from the Things, and bit's of music form your memories. You spend a while doing that, maybe 30 minutes to an hour, so focused on the task that you're not quite sure of the time. You begin to feel as if it's pointless, when you get a signal back.

An image forms in your mind, unbidden. You see a room, with colorful paintings on the wall depicting plant life, cute insects and one of those Things, wearing white fabric but this time with it's face uncovered. It's smiling, before looking down at one of those slates in it's hand and then saying something, incomprehensible noise like always. And then you feel yourself, no, the girl smiling back! And when she opens her mouth to speak, you understand what she says!

"I'm feeling fine Dr. Thompson. Better than fine, in fact, I have so much energy it's hard to sit still!"

And then she laughs, that almost musical lilting sound that endeared her to you when you first met her. The doctor laughs as well, before saying something back, and once again you are befuddled as to how it's words are meaningless to you, but you know instinctually what she's saying. They speak back and forth for a while, the girl asking when she'll be released out of the "hospital", if she could get a phone to call her parents, if they could bring a radio or cd player what the fuck is that? as she's feeling kinda bored, and as the conversation ends, she asks if she could get an extra helping of lunch, apparently not full from the first meal. The whole time of course, the Things speech back was as indecipherable as always.

When the Thing leaves the room, you try again to send a signal to her, except this time you try to speak to her, using what you learned from hearing her speak.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0su7Pvh0uFY

"H-hello? Can you hear me, female?
>>
You feel her grow a bit startled, and see through her eyes as she looks around the room, searching for the source of the words. Yes! She can hear you!

“Who’s there? Are you playing a prank again, nurse Ratchet?”

Confidence growing, you send another message to her:

”No, it’s me. I’m the one who… who saved you, remember?”

You feel her eyes widen at this, and a series of images and emotions flash through your mind and hers. You see yourself lying on your, no, her lap. You feel the confusion she felt when she first awoke, and then the sheer gratitude when she realized what had happened. The sense of awe and wonder, as her understanding of what she thought was the world expanded a thousand fold. Not only were aliens real, but they were here to help. We come in peace indeed.

You feel that gratitude again, as she closes her mouth and opens her mind.

“It is you, isn’t it. I… I don’t know what to say. Thank you… whatever you are. We can start there, I guess. What are you? Or could you at least tell me your name?”

Huh. You never really thought about that, what you are or least of all what your name is. You suppose it’s as good a place as any to start exchanging information.

We are a mind hive kind of deal right QM?
Our trillions of cells are constantly communicating and forming blocs that form greater personalities that argue, debate, and keep layering more personalities upwards and eventually there is the singular top of the pyramid that is essentially the democratic will of the bio mass.
If I'm right then I have this.
>I don't have a name but I have many selves
>Introduce warrior, survivor(not sure what to call him), ambassador, cat, lizard, ant, and the rest and all together they form you.
>Talk about language, you perfectly understand her thoughts but the noises from her fellows are still incomprehensible to you
>Set pollen cells to strictly form a psychic link at the moment, if they come across any partially infected have the infection simply restrict itself to the brain and nervous system and make no significant changes, so they will be things like us but riding inside a meat suit, hopefully preventing them from being outed and keeping the hunger manageable. From there they focus on getting into contact with us and acting normally, we can decide on programming or overrides then.
A bit wordy and I hope it is within the limitations of our pollen but best to set a standard now so we don't accidentally cronenberg someone and they get roasted to death desperately trying to be our mind slave.

In all your time since you became aware of yourself, you never really thought about your name. Since you can't speak or understand the language of the Things, and that you instinctually know who all your selves are, and vice versa, you guess you never really saw the use of names. "I... I don't have one. A name." You see through her eyes as she blinks at that, before you feel an alien sensation; embarrassment. "Huh... T-that's okay! It makes sense you wouldn't have a name I suppose. But... How about I give you one? Would that be okay?"

This surprises you a bit, but then you recall the memories of your new, black furred self. It had a name, and hearing it's name being called out by it's owner filled it with a sense of comfort. You figure why not, and say yes. "Alright then, let me think... How about... Cuddles! No, no that's too silly. Maybe... Squiddy? Or uuuhhh... Marvin? You kinda strike me as a Marvin. You know, I had a dog named Iggy when I was little, maybe I should call you that...? Aaaah, I can't choose! Which one do you like the best?"

>Choose one
>Marvin
>Squiddy
>Iggy
>Cuddles
>You don't know why, but the name Manny pops into your mind.
>None of those names

>>5065967
You decide to ask her a question this time, one that's been in the back of your mind since you first met her: "When I met you, you were unlike any of the other Things I had met before. You were... Gaunt and sickly, and your biosignal was weak. When I tried to vocalize or touch you, you gave no reaction. What was wrong with you?"

You can feel her mouth screw up a bit at that question, and she scratches the side of her head, thinking. Finally, she gives you an answer. "You know, that's a good question. Last thing I remember was riding in a car with my parents, going to the movies. You know what a movie is? N-Nevermind. We were about halfway there, I know because we had just passed the Piggly Wiggly, and then... Nothing. I guess I was in a coma? That's what Dr. Thompson told me anyways, not that I remember any of it. Honestly, I thought I had just fallen asleep in the car, when you woke me up. I thought you were a dream, and now... Now I don't know what to think, haha..."

Sensing her starting to grow uncomfortable, you change topics. "So... What's a seedee? Or a raydeo?"

For some reason, she giggles after you ask that question, growing into a short laughing fit. Wiping the tears from her eyes, she replies: "Hahahaha, I guess it makes sense you wouldn't know what that was, huh. A radio is something that picks up radio doohickeys from the air and turns it into music!"

At the mention of music, you suddenly grow very interested in the topic of raydeos and seedees. Begging her to continue, she goes on:
>>
“Okay okay, a CD is this little plastic disc, that somehow has music printed on it. You stick it into a CD player or a radio and you can listen to any band you like, anytime. They even make portable CD players so you can listen to music on the go!”

You are once again awed by the technology of these Things. How can such fragile creatures not only survive, but thrive enough to create such wonderful technology? You very much want a raydeo or seedee player in your cell now.

As interesting as the conversation is, you can feel yourself weakening, as channeling your mental and physical energy on your connection is taking a lot of concentration and energy out of you. You think you have enough energy left to ask her one more question, or to tell her to do something for you. If you can convince her, it would be very useful if she could tell you the layout of this place, assuming she knows it, or even get her to try and come find you. You can’t be completely sure, but you think she’s much stronger and tougher than she knows, even without the improvements your cells made on her body.

>What will you say?
>>
>>5067707
Oh my bad, I forgot the other actions that anon made. Pretend this was in the second post:

You introduce all your most prominent selves, deciding that showing every single self would take way too long. First up is the Ambassador, and you can feel the girls surprise at suddenly hearing a different voice coming from you. She recovers quickly, and they both exchange pleasantries before the Survivor pipes up, cracking a bad joke at the Ambassadors expense, causing the girl to laugh and a short argument between your two selves. Next is the Warrior, and it gruffly says hello and... Nothing else. It doesn't show it, but you can feel it's awkwardness at being way out of it's depth, without anything to fight or kill. Finally, you introduce your newest selves, first the reptile which squeaks adorably, to the coos of the girl, and then the insect, which unsurprisingly, says nothing. Finally the black furred creature meows kindly towards the girl, and as she greets it, it begins purring at the mental pets the girl transmits.

When the greetings are done, you feel as though you both know each other a little better. Deciding on asking her something of relative import, you tell her that while you are able to understand her words, the noises of her fellow Things are incomprehensible to you. "That is weird. Now that you mention it, you're definitely not speaking English, but somehow I know exactly what you're saying. I guess we're just soulmates or something, hehe..."

With that mystery still laying unsolved, you make a quick adjustment to your pollen organs, ordering them to only make changes to the brain of the creatures they infect, instilling loyalty to us and to try and set up more biobonds, if it is even possible. You didn't even know that was a feature of this particular organ, until very recently, and are unsure if your connection with this Thing is unique, or if that's just a side effect of the pollen's infection.

One more thing I forgot is since you succeeded at using the Biobond between you and the girl to communicate you get

Post 1/?

Feeling yourself starting to grow weak from continuously boosting the connection, you decide to cut right to the heart of the matter. "You need to answer quickly and concisely, what do you know of the layout of this place?" You feel her surprise at the sudden shift in tone and topic, but she recovers quickly and answers: "Uuuhh, you mean the hospital? Let me think..." And as she thinks, you see her thoughts, of her watching you being taken off of her lap and put inside a cage, to Things wheeling her out of the maze (with all the walls somehow gone) and into the halls of this place, turning and turning through corridors before being led into her current room. You make careful note of what she's seen, and comparing it with your own memories of this place, you think you know a good deal more of the exact dimensions of your prison.

"So I think it's like th-" You cut her off "I have seen through your mind's eye, no need to tell me now, thank you." She grows even more confused, and you hear tiny bursts of thoughts, wondering if you can hear this, if you know who her crush is in J. Edgar Hoover High, (it was Barry Sycamore, she thought he had kind eyes) before simply replying "Y-you're welcome...?" You then tell her that you're going away now, but that you'll never be far away, and that you'll be here if she needs help. Then, you release all the energy and focus you were using to keep the connection going, and collapse. Despite your last rest being so recent, you feel wore out, seemingly not wholly recovered from healing the girl and weakened by boosting your new found connection with her.

You curl up and slowly, drift off into the strange land of dreams, while your restless cells debate what kind of improvements they should make, the pull of evolution spurring them ever onward...

>You've learned a bit more about the strange place you're in, gaining 3 Evolution Points! Leaving you with a total of 50 EP!

>You have reached the next stage of evolution!
>You have 50 EP left to spend.
>>

10 points

>Basic claws and sharper teeth, your natural weapons grow again, now becoming entirely bone, as well as lengthening a bit more. They grow much sharper as well, and from both your battle experience as well combat simulations your more restless cells have been running in the background, you feel much more competent in the art of cutting your enemies to shreds. 20 points

>Average intelligence, through continued experience and more than a little growth your cells become even more efficient at storing, sorting and perceiving information!

10 points

>Rudimentary scales, these cover your whole body and provide some degree of protection and insulation, keeping you slightly warmer in cold places and cooler in hot places, and a little better suited for general survival. 5 points

5 points

>Rudimentary photosynthesis, your skin turns green and you gain the ability to get a small amount of nutrition if you spend enough time in the sunlight. With this adaptation, you will passively gain 1 EP per day spent outdoors in the sunlight. 5 points

>Rudimentary fins, these allow you to swim more easily and with more speed, although they are fragile and damage very easily. 5 points

>Primitive pollen generation, you now put out more pollen with less effort, and it takes a good deal less of the stuff to begin to take over it’s hosts. And if you’re feeling particularly merciful, you also require less pollen overall to heal other lifeforms. 20 points

>Rudimentary fur, your body becomes covered in a black fur, insulating your body against both heat and cold, although you stay much warmer in the cold with this than with scales, but scales keep you cooler in the heat, as well as providing slightly better protection. Still, this is a must in frigid climates. 5 points

>Basic adapted communion, through continued experience and specialization, your Communion organ is even more efficient than before, and now when you Commune you lose only a little of the precious biomatter of those you Commune with, and your adapted Communion is only slightly less efficient than either pure Communion or assimilation. One step further, one new friend made, very soon you really will have the best of both worlds! 40 points

>Rudimentary cell consolidation, you instruct your cells to commit a form of cannibalism, compacting your form and reducing both hunger and overall energy spent per cycle. Best used creatively. 10 points.

>Rudimentary insectoid strength, your body begins to tack on more muscle mass all over, which can be activated for brief moments of increased strength, when brute force is absolutely necessary. 20 points

Pollen to consume or brainwash people easily, cell consolidation to be smaller (stealthier) and requiring less energy, and insectoid strenght to rip the vent grate off.
Looks like a good combo to escape safely.

Nice anon, My Horrific Flesh Monster Can't Be This Cute!

This one is properly terrifying and gross, and other than being red and not green, is pretty much how I picture the Starving Creature, also known as Manny.

And since I fucked up again and forgot to include the Creatures new name in the last post, let me get that addendum out.

Instead of the pollen upgrade, our pollen is low but is still passively entering the facility even now, with the eggs we could presumably make more pollen generators if we wanted to stick around the facility, but if we do decide to do the escape route then having scouts of sorts would be insanely useful
Idk how QM feels about having evolutionary abilities affect eachother, but if we could find a way to combo the pollen and asexually reproduction we could possibly have a controllable pollen cloud, if not I understand its a tall order
>>
>>5069731
I'm conflicted on letting your pollen organs spread to your progeny or offshoots from your main body, as it could easily lead to a world ending scenario where you make more of yourself which infect others with pollen thus creating even more of yourself until the whole world is Things. For now, I'm gonna say that your pollen adaptation is /your/ adaptation and your progeny or offshoots will have their own different adaptations, maybe of your choosing, if only for the sake of balance. Maybe once we're further into the quest I'll let your children have pollen organs, but for now I feel like it would be a quick road to the end of the quest, and I want it to keep going for a while longer still.

Pollen is clearly going to be a big part of our plan, better improve it.
I would love intelligence or improved communion, but we can always do that later.

Also, didn't we get rudimentary photosynthesis already? Shouldn't the option be primitive?

Obviously I cant speak for everyone QM, but I'm personally loving this quest so far. Its a common thing with quests sometimes giving too much exposition from the beginning, but I like quests like these where you have to figure out shit by yourself and its not just handed to you. It adds an air of mystery I think, which is good for garnering people interest.

The concept and powers are really cool too. I almost always find these kind of bio-horror type quests, its just fun to play around with. The amount of options it gives is large. Having to slowly build up your ability's strengths and weaknesses also makes it more satisfying when we actually manage to evolve an organ and actually use it, seeing the results of our collective progress as tangible is just an incredible feeling.

This is getting a little long and I don't want to list all the reasons I like it so, in short I really like this quest.
>>

I'm glad to hear that anon, really nice to see that in the morning. I've been thinking about changing the format from one update a day to multiple updates a couple days a week, as I think the one update a day may be wearing on people and makes it hard for people to get into the moment to moment choices and gameplay due to the story being stretched thin and fed piecemeal to the players over a long time line.

So yeah, really feels good that you're still having fun, thank you for the kind words.

>You have grown strange, gaining the power of... Primitive biosense/telepathy!
>Your pollen organs have grown as well, becoming more used to their role of ending the isolation of these sad creatures...

When you wake up, you feel... Strange. Like there's more of you, and not just in your body. You feel keenly aware of your surroundings, and beyond. Like behind the mirror, where before you could just barely feel the barest hint of something, now their signal is very noticeable. You feel four of them, and not just their meatsignal, but also something deeper. Almost like you have a window into their soul, just a rather foggy one. They feel calm, and you note the suppressed feeling of disgust they have, directed at you.

And you can sense even further beyond, feeling life and minds wandering the halls, calm, relaxed and focusing on their tasks or eating, talking to companions, ghosts on the edge of your periphery. And on the far edge of your senses, you feel something very familiar. A palpable sense of relief, but shrouded by a quiet but intense feeling of... Determination.

And your connection with the girl has grown stronger as well, you feel as if you could look into her mind much easier now, and boosting the connection between you feels as though it would be only mildly taxing. In the light of this strange new internal change, the growth in your pollen organs are almost difficult to notice, but take note you do. The cells that make up your pollen organs have learned the ropes of their assigned role, and are better at more efficiently pumping out more pollen for less effort, and in their excitement, have converted more of your biomass into pollen organs, what was once a few yellow lumps on your rear, have now grown steadily up your back, between the tendrils.

You feel as though both these growths shall be very useful in the coming cycles. And your selves agree, although they all have different interpretations as to what to do now.

>USE OUR NEWFOUND ABILITY TO SEE THE MINDS OF THESE THINGS, TRY AND GO DEEP AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO, FIND THE BEST WAYS TO TEAR THEIR WEAK MINDS APART! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Heeding that curious voice, you begin to actively probe around in the mind signals behind the mirror. Strangely, some are more tightly walled off than others, a kind of mental block preventing you from getting inside without some amount of force. Feeling around, you feel one mind that is particularly pliable, and begin concentrating your newfound mental ability before driving it directly into their mindscape!

When you burst through the psyche barrier, you are stunned for a moment as your surroundings change, the walls and ceilings replaced with fleshy growths and giant synaptic pathways, neuron trees arcing lightning back and forth between them and the ambient hum of machinery is replaced with the constant whispers and murmurs of stray thoughts, memories and imagination. Far in the distance, you see a gigantic meat tower reaching high enough to scrape the "sky", capped by a light shining to various places, switching in erratic intervals to one part of the psychosphere to another. You guess this is it's mind, and somehow you feel that if you concentrated on finding a particular part of this brainscape, such as it's memories or knowledge centers, that you could find what you seek.

You just have to choose which to look through first.

>LOOK FOR KNOWLEDGE, IDEAS, UNDERSTANDING OF THE WAY OF THE WAY OF THE WORLD AND LANGUAGE... GOOD SUCCESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCfj1fZgHlM&list=LL&index=27

You decide to look for this Thing's knowledge, as you know very little of not just your prison, but especially the world outside, assuming there is one. As you make that choice, you feel a gentle tug, as the fleshy floor gently lights up a path, leading deeper into the psychosphere. You suppose this will lead to what you're looking for, so you start walking forwards. A while into your trip, you realize that you're only walking because that is how you would locomote in the real world, and that in this place, anything is possible. If you focus, you could move much faster, possibly even fly to where your going. Just as you finish that thought, you begin to levitate! Focusing your mind, you float forwards, slowly at first, but before long you get the hang of it and are zipping through the "sky". After a couple of minutes, you reach a large cluster of flesh, neuron trees and stone, half meat and half building. You believe this is where you'll find what you're looking for, and you gently touch down on the ground in front of it.

The entrance is open, and following the lure of knowledge, you cautiously step inside. What you see is a pillar of what looks like brain matter, with a stone slate jutting from the middle. On the slate is an etching, and somehow you know what it says: KNOWLEDGE A couple of feet above the ground in the pillar is a hole, and at the encouragement and instruction of your recently silent but tiny voice, you approach it, and your back splits open painlessly, your Communion organ stretching out towards the hole, and then, with a little hesitation, you jam it inside, and your mind fills with alien knowledge!

Words, images, noises, all fill your brain almost to the point of overload. There is so much data that its hard to pick out any one thing. Still, just absorbing the entirety of this absolute wealth of information will make it hard to process, so you decide to focus on one, maybe two concepts, but the more you split your attention the less you'll learn of either.

We COULD choose two, but I think just learning how to listen to them and express ourselves in their language would be the most valuable prospect right now. Only focusing on the organisms language could not only allow us to someday communicate back to them, but it also has a good prospect of us being able to understand what they say.

Since they don't know that we can understand them it could give us hints to the world, facility, etc., just by listening to them. maybe even being able to read and write? Language seems like the best option to me.

The curse has struck. Someone in my family that I'm very close to has been sick for a while, and has just been confirmed to have covid. They're already in poor health, so I'm pretty worried. They've been vaccinated, but still, it's a bad fucking situation.

Just letting you guys know so that if I stop updating out of the blue, it's not because I'm abandoning the quest, but that I need to take a short hiatus(a week or three) to take care of things. Thanks for playing with me so far guys, the support and art and everything you guys have done for me has been really good, and it just plain feels good to write. No matter what happens, I'm not gonna just abandon the quest without at least letting you guys know first.

Stay safe out there.

Hope your family member gets well soon QM, covid is a pain in the ass. Someone in my family got covid a short while ago as well and they already cant breath very well and covid definitely didn't help, they got vaccinated, but it still took like 2 and a half weeks for them to recover.

I can sympathize at least a little with what's going on with your crazy life, take all the time you need, hope they feel better soon!

Also what curse are you talking about? are you naturally unlucky irl when questing?

>LANGUAGE
Alright, writing.
>>
Deciding that learning the meaning of what these Thing's say is going to be vital soon, you focus all of your mental energy on deciphering their language, but what you find is more than you could have ever expected. How can simply 26 letters form so many different words? How do they function with so much information clogging their brains? Verbs, pronouns, punctuation, consonants, adverbs, even the concept of rhyming, you pick through it all multiple times. Without anyone here to explain it to you, it mostly just comes off as useless data, but after a while you realize that you have to sift through the massive bloat of this language to get to the key words and phrases. Things like "hello", "goodbye", "containment" and "OH MY GOD HELP ITS IN MY BRAIN!".

That was a bit different, so caught up in your studies were you that you didn't notice when the overall vibe of this brainscape changed. Through the buildings windows, you can see a burning white light shining through. Peeking out, you see the flesh tower far in the distance, it's spotlight burning fiercely, pointed directly at You. You guess you've been found out. You don't know what the consequences of staying much longer would be, but you still have so much to learn! Based on what you just absorbed, you think you could understand less than a quarter of what they're saying, and forget about written language, that's a whole other beast.

>Stay and learn as much as you can, you can handle this Thing's puny mind!

>Leave, you are uncomfortable with staying as an invader in a mind that knows you're there, who knows what would happen.

Thanks guys.

>Also what curse are you talking about? are you naturally unlucky irl when questing?

It's just a injoke on this board, the reason why so many QM's abandon quests is because once you start running a quest you become cursed, and sooner or later something fucked up is gonna happen to you to make you stop running your quest. Also possibly real considering how many QM's have been run over, gotten deathly ill, had their computer explode and a bunch of other weird occurrences.

Tension rising, you decide to back out. Except... How do you leave somethings mind? You try concentrating, on your own body, on the real world and your prison, and as you watch the wall in front of you morphs into a window, which swings open, revealing... Your cell? Seeing no better option, you jump through and after a stomach churning feeling of vertigo, of being in two places at once, before you know it you're back in the real world, everything is as you left it. You send out some mental feelers towards the one whos mind you explored, and asides from a vague feeling of discomfort and a bit of nausea, they seem none the wiser. You are a bit curious as to what would have happened had you lingered in it's psyche, but you suppose you'll have to find that out another cycle. One thing you do note is the lingering weakness within yourself, it seems that breaking into somethings mind is tiring work, but you're still fresh enough to get plenty done, if you so choose.

It wasn't a total waste however, as you at least learned a decent amount of the Thing's language. You think if you heard one of them speaking, you could decipher about a quarter of it, which is miles better than nothing at all. Actually speaking the language is a different matter, those Things have specialized organs, throats, even lungs made for the express purpose of verbal communication. You could give it a try as you are now, but it would take some practice at the very least.

Still back in your own mind, in your own cell, you consider what to do next.

>Attempt to vocalize what you've learned, might as well get some speaking practice in while you got some free time. There is much benefit to being able to communicate with these Things, and while it is brutish and inefficient in comparison to Communion, it is a start.

>You did have an idea earlier, to force your pollen organs into overdrive and attempt to spread as much of the stuff throughout your prison as possible, which will be all the more effective with your evolved pollen organs. They may have taken some precautions against that particular tactic, but I'm willing to be there's a good chance one or more of them are already infected. And once the infection fully takes hold in more and more of them, the easier our escape will be

>As subtly as you can, get to work on weakening the grate blocking off the vent. WHEN THE TIME COMES, WE SHALL TAKE THE PATH LESS TRAVELED. AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE THINGS SEEING US, I HAVE AN IDEA ABOUT THAT...

That and if we ever shapeshift into one of those Things, it would be better if we could pretend to speak instead of (say) being a silent mute who's super creepy.

Revealing that we can understand them means that they will never reveal anything important in our presence. We need to keep it secret, otherwise learning their language was pointless (in the short term at least)

Since our pollen organ is one of our most developed organs, it seems like a waste to not try it.

You give the order, and your pollen organs happily comply, ready and willing to test their improved capabilities. And yes, you can put out quite a lot now, the air in your cell filling more and more with pollen. Before long, the air has a slight yellowish tint, and you watch with excitement as it steadily gets sucked up into the vent. Assuming they haven't already taken countermeasures, you should have quite a few more infections from this. And while you can't be too sure, if you strain your newfound telepathy, you can almost feel that a few of these Things are... Different. Thought processes changing, ever so slightly, and a peckish feeling that never quite goes away.

You think that even if no more Things get infected, what you have should be enough to be of great help for your escape.

And thinking of your eventual freedom, your thought's turn again to the girl. What should be done about her...? You would like to get her out of here as well, the biobond between you does run both ways after all. But... To start with, you don't even know the path to her room, and even if you were able to get her out of the room, it will still be extremely dangerous for you to try and escape, let alone a adolescent female. And besides, they may release her after all anyway, their primary interest seems to be you and you made sure to change as little of her physiology as possible when you healed her.

But, that is a problem for another time, as you hear a whining sound, and the wall in your cell begins to slide open!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMI7OQuO0y4&list=LL&index=57

When it slides open just a crack, all the pollen in the air is steadily sucked into the hallway, and you hope they don't notice it. When it slides open fully, you see 6 of those black masked Things, as they filter into the room and surround you, pointing those metal objects directly at you! But... you can understand some of what they're saying!

"Subject... contained, bring... Director... ready."

And as they finish speaking, you see a now very familiar face, that of the bearded Thing, surrounded by the masked Things in white. You note that he's wearing a mask as well, although his long and thick beard creates an imperfect seal, a design flaw that fills you with grim satisfaction. If he inhales even a tiny bit of your pollen, the infection process will be unavoidable. Behind him, the white Things carry another cell, once again bigger than before. For a moment you imagine they must be much stronger than they look, to be able to carry it and you. The bearded Thing approaches, motioning towards the black masked Things and saying

"Put down... I'm sure... right?

And as he finishes speaking, you give no indication that understood even a little of what he just said, your green reptillian eyes as cold and emotionless as you can make them. He seems to buy it, as a smile curves his lips, and he only has to bend down a little to get to eye level with you, such is your growth.
>>
>>5074693

He speaks again, saying

”It’s time… a test… remember? Just do… natural…”

And then motions towards the cell, indicating he wants you to step inside. While you have had some stray thoughts of hurting these Things, you realize you don’t really want to cause them or anyone harm. You just want to be free. Can’t they see that? And as you look into the bearded Thing’s coldly calculating eyes, you see a tiny spark of… Something. A fire burns in this man, and he’d spread that fire all over the world if it meant he could get what he wants. But what does he want? If you could figure that out, you could perhaps get him to release you in exchange for your help, which he clearly needs for whatever he’s planning.

While your grasp on their language is rather shaky, you almost want to ask him ”What do you really want from all this, Thing?”

Staring into his eyes, you make your choice.

>Try and speak with this Thing, see if you can come to some kind of agreement. Or at least find out why in the hell they’ve imprisoned you here, against your will. Not all problems need to be solved with force…

>Do as he asks, and step into your cell willingly. This is a great opportunity, don’t you see that? These cells have vents on them, as they carry us to wherever we’re going, we can spread a ton of pollen throughout the halls! Even if everything in here is wearing a mask, they have to take them off at some point, right?

>You’ve grown much stronger than you were before, as well as just plain bigger. Attack them. I GROW TIRED OF THIS MELODRAMA, I WANT BLOOD! I WANT TO TASTE THE STINK OF ADRENALINE, AND SPREAD CHAOS THROUGHOUT THIS PRISON!

Its probably best to take advantage of this opportunity to spread our pollen around the facility as much and to as many people as possible. If we are too hasty in our escape attempt it could lead to our recapture and reenforced containment methods. We have to get it right the first time, and if we have to obey for a little longer to achieve the best chance of escape, so be it. Our patience will lead us to victory in the end.

I'm weary of playing along for too long and waiting until the facility is too well guarded for us to smoothly escape, but we are clearly important to them for now, so they will not try to suddenly kill us, for now at least. Meanwhile our pollen spreads and we grow more capable as time goes on. We can afford to wait a little and slowly tighten the noose around their necks.
With any luck, we could even earn their trust and use it against them.

This actually gives me an idea. He mentioned something about a test right? I think he's planning to take us to another testing room, possibly some kind of logic puzzle or at least something similar to what we have faced before.

Perhaps we can try to find out how to complete the puzzle or test by going into his mindscape, and finding the correct answer. Or we could ever try attacking him mentally once we reach the end destination they are taking us to, with their leader being attacked by us, he will be too distracted to issue them orders, making our escape that much easier. while this is going on, we can use the side effects of our pollen organ to get people to help us.

Just a thought.

>BREAK INTO THE LEADERS MIND... FAILURE

For a while you lock eyes with the bearded Thing. Trying to see anything, a hint of what it's planning, what it wants from you. Then something in them makes you look away, and for a moment you almost feel as though the fire that burns within them would whip out at you, burning you to cinders. But you remember your dream, and you know that the fire that burns within You is hotter, stronger, greater than anything these Things could imagine. So you bide your time, and step past it, into the cell. The Survivor did have a great idea after all, and as the wall is locked shut, you once again bathe in darkness. And after encouraging your pollen organs to keep pumping out as much as possible, you feel yourself get lifted up, and the steady swaying motion starts, rocking you back and forth.

You have to admit though, you're rather curious about what exactly is going on in this Thing's mind, allured to his inner flame like a moth to... well, a flame. So you focus your mind, and snake out an invisible tendril, through the walls of your cell, through the air, and into the Things skull. But what you find is rather surprising.

You can't get in.

In your minds eye, when your telepathy tries to enter his mind, you see a giant, vast iron wall, reaching up and scraping the grey sky and stretching into the horizon in either direction. Try as you might, you can find no way in, no weakness to exploit. Testing it's strength, you realize that it would take a great deal of concentration and raw, psychic power to break through, and you feel as though even attempting would alert him to your probing, whether or not you succeed or fail. After all, it would be hard not to notice a mental battering ram pushing into your psyche. So, frustrated, you pull back, back into your own mind and body. At least, you detect no change in the Things mindwaves, and you feel relatively secure in the knowledge that your attempt went unnoticed, and you think that next time will be a little easier, surely there is some gap, some weakness in that wall that you can squeeze through. No mere man is that mentally strong.

So you wait, your pollen steadily filling up the cell until the air is thick with the stuff, and it imperceptibly filters out through the vent inside, out into the prison. And out here, you definitely feel that some of these Things have changed, in their minds. You feel less of that sheer repulsion in some, and even a bit of... Respect? Like they would be more willing to assist you when the time comes, or at least not get in your way. And that feeling of admiration will grow and grow, until it becomes adoration. Then they will be at you beck and call, should you so choose.

And with your pollen spreading into the prison, into it's halls and rooms, into the vents presumably unprotected from your contagion, more and more of them will be dancing to your tune, with time.

So you wait, jostling, swaying, even being lowered to the ground a couple of times, and you do feel the exertion of those Things carrying you, despite their strength they struggle to carry your growing form. After a while, maybe 45 minutes of this, you feel yourself being lowered again, and as the Things shuffle around outside your cell, you blink against the sudden light as your cell’s wall pops open. Gingerly stepping out, you see you are still surrounded by those Things in black, their weapons pointed directly at you. In front of you is the bearded Thing, and he leans down a bit, and speaks to you again.

”This test… food… don’t… heal… prove me… understand?”

Not letting any sign of recognition slip, he sighs and makes some kind of signal to the others, as the wall behind you opens, and in walks a familiar face, although covered with a mask! The high pitched Thing, the previous owner of the black furred creature now residing within your form. You can’t help but feel relief that she’s still around, and even a little joy at seeing her again, although you think that’s mostly from your furry self. She’s holding a length of rope, attached to some oinking, pink skinned creature. Are they bringing you a meal for good behaviour? It’s flesh does look rather succulent and tantalizing, and you are once again reminded of your ever present Hunger, always lurking within you. As it is brought in front of you, the bearded Thing holds out a hand and says something to one of the Things in black, and it pulls out a thin piece of metal, handing it to him handle side first.

What happens next surprises you, as the bearded Thing walks up to the pink animal, and cuts a deep gash into it’s side! It starts oinking and shrieking very loudly at that, clearly shocked and in much pain, as it’s tantalizingly red blood spills onto the floor. The bearded Thing then hands the blade back to his underling, and they all step back, watching and waiting for your next move.

What is the purpose of this seemingly pointless cruelty? What do they even want you to do?

>Write in what to do here

okay, so first of all, I would like to say that im surprised that the human was able to stop our mind probe so easily, this man has definitely seen shit. Maybe next evolution we should upgrade it.

>This test… food… don’t… heal… prove me… understand?
He definitely wants us to heal the pig like we healed that girl, I think he wants us to prove him right? About how we can heal stuff and its not just a one off.

Now the question is, what do we do? I think we should eat the blood that's already poured out of the pink creature to sate some of our hunger and learn about it, then put our pollen into overdrive in front of the pink creature in an attempt to heal it.
>>
>>5075300
To add onto my original idea, insted of just enough pollen to heal this creature, I think we should also add in 50% pollen into its system to make it completely obey us, another allay, they wont think much of it if the creature is hungry after being revived, since they will be distracted by what we have done for them.

They get what they want, and we gain a possibly useful agent under our control.

We want to be predictable right now, they know what we can do and if we start showing off our telepathy its going to make our situation much much worse, they know we evolve but if they know we can read there minds you can expect everyone in and just outside this facility is going to be under a psychic barrier thatll make it that much harder to get in, not to mention the insane security we'd get in our new solitary hole 20 miles under the earth, when a person is confronted with there darkest secrets they will do a lot
>>
>>5075571
good point, we will go with your plan than.
But i will miss that bacon

Maybe after we heal the pink creature we could try to enter its mindscape for information relating to the facility, It came from somewhere obviously, somewhere we haven't seen yet, but it has seen, perhaps it knows the layout of this place to some degree, it might even know of the place where other creatures like us or it are kept. We could go there after we break out to form a small army to distract the black and white creatures, and the bearded creature.

Looking into the bearded Things eyes, you realize you could never be as cruel as one of them. Never so barbaric, so cold. If you have to, you will kill to eat, to survive, but you won't draw it out. You won't subject defenseless creatures to painful tests just to prove some inane theory, to feed your own ego.

But you won't stand by while a living being suffers, not even to spite Them. So you give in, and order your pollen organs to change, to heal instead of consume, to change themselves to suit the host and not the other way around. The pink things squeals grow louder somehow, as it's panicked breaths suck in more and more of your pollen. To your amazement, while it has only breathed in a fraction of what the girl had to inhale to heal, you watch as it's wound stops bleeding. Then muscle and tissue pulls itself together, finally ending as the skin seals up, not even leaving a scar.

Still, you were never one to let even a drop of biomatter go to waste, and as the creature calms, you approach the small puddle of blood and begin licking it up.

>You have tasted the blood of the chattel of Man, and their unassuming intelligence becomes your own... (-5 EP cost for Average intelligence!)

Around you, the Things begin to clap, so proud, so self satisfied, the cruelty inflicted on the pink thing already forgotten. Once the last drop of blood has been cleaned off the floor, you turn around and face the bearded Thing, and while a warm smile graces it's face, that warmth not quite reaching it's eyes. Except for the grim determination roiling within. It's grin leaves it's face, and once again it speaks to you.

"Good... surpassed... reward... Soon...

Then it says something to the Things dressed in white, before motioning towards the cell, eyes locked with yours. For a moment you almost give into the Warriors rage, but you are not Them, so you acquiesce and enter the cell without struggle. You know yours and their time will come.

Soon...

On the way back you continue to spread pollen throughout the halls, and using the minds you sense as waypoints, by the time you reach your cell, you feel as though you are learning more and more on not only the way through this place, but the way out as well. When you feel your temporary cell lower one final time, you sense a large amount of dead biomatter, that is somehow oddly familiar, although you can't place it. When the wall pops open, blinking against the light, you see the form of one of those pink creatures, it's skin and limbs removed, it's dead black eyes staring off into the void.

Is this some kind of cruel joke? To make you heal one of these things, before feeding you another one? Looking around, you see the black masked Things and the bearded Thing, and then the bearded Thing says something to it's underlings, and in their response you hear a touch of confusion and... Concern?
>>
The leader repeats himself, and they offer a short response, before leaving you and him alone, together.

He seems to see something in your confused eyes, something that makes him laugh. A deep bassy sound rolls out of him, muffled by his mask, and when it stops, you two are left in silence. What could he possibly want now, that requires privacy?

One... thing... When... comes... need... know... Will... do... ask...?

>What is your response, if any?
>>
>>5078510
>Get a little closer to the leader creature, try to seem as not threatening as possible while doing so. While doing this build up as much pollen in our body as we can, then when we are close enough, surprise him by ripping off his mask and spraying as much pollen into his mouth and orifices on his face as possible.
>>
Sorry that took so long, and please forgive the excessive use of commas. After a couple votes roll in I'll get started on the next update.
>>
>>5078510
>Prod the dead sow for a sign of life, lay a clutch of eggs inside its chest cavity
My thought is we avoid eating it, our spawn can be dumb and subservient to us, shocks the scientists as well that we reproduce and they can focus on something else for awhile, while we try invading a few more mindscapes
>>
>>5078540
Sorry anon, but you don't have that ability yet.
>>
>>5078510
>Consume it. Stare at the leader creature in absolute disgust.
>>
>>5078514
Let me explain my thinking for this action. At this moment we are alone with their leader, no guns or security people around. The security is outside the room now. He has already inhaled some of the spores thanks to the break in the mask caused by the beard, so a concentrated pollen shot right to the face could bring him up to 25 or 50% infection, this not only could get him to help us, but it would also make it easier to talk to him flawlessly, (like when we talked to the girl from earlier) not to mention details about how this place is set up, info about the world, etc. He could even possibly get us live humans to feed on, now that would be very useful.

We aren't gonna get a better opportunity for getting the best ally ever than right now. Plus I don't like the idea that the humans are starting to think they can easily control and manipulate us like a pet dog.
>>
>>5078544
My bad qm, brainfart
>>
>>5078550
Im pretty sure they arent in our cell theyre outside of it, our cell is in a room that they are also in
>>
>>5078510
>Give a small nod.
We can safely assume even in character that It wants us to heal something. We have no real reason to refuse.
Whoever we heal will become our ally, and earning their trust will lower their guard, making our job easier when the opportunity present itself.
We will have time to correct their offensive disregard of life later.

>>5078550
>Plus I don't like the idea that the humans are starting to think they can easily control and manipulate us like a pet dog.
That is perfect though, let them think we are an obedient pushover, it'll make our eventual escape takeover all the more unexpected.
>>
>>5078581
you sure? I though they always released us into our room once we get there and store the cage somewhere else. QM can you confirm on whether or not we are in a cell in a room or just in a room?
>>
>>5078596
>>5078581
I understand your confusion, they put you in a smaller cell when they want to take you somewhere, but otherwise your room is also called a cell. You have just exited the transport cell into your room.
>>
>>5078591
Granted that is a fair point and good strategy, but if we do it this way we could potentially gain one of the best ally's we could ever have in this place. He probably knows pretty much everything about it, his help could even help us infect other people by having him collect our pollen and spread it through the ventilation system or something similar.
>>
>>5078602
Thanks for the quick response QM

Just for the sake of clarity: we are in the room alone together right? we aren't in a box or anything? just us two and empty space in-between?
>>
>>5078606
I don't know anon, I'm not buying it.
He would be the greatest ally we could have without a doubt, but just ripping his mask off and throwing pollen in his face is foolhardy.

First off, the guards left the room, but its perfectly reasonable to assume that they are just outside and could come in guns blazing at a moments notice. Like the head researcher screaming for help because the giant flesh monster started attacking his face.
I doubt our pollen would act so fast that he would immediately just chill out and become our friend, all we would achieve is either get gunned down or waste any trust we built up with the things. I expect Mister Bearded Thing would also be placed under watch and no longer be in a position to really help besides information.
Also, if this is "our room/cell" doesn't it have a one view window in it? If yes, then others are surely watching too.

Too many avenues for failure in this plan for my liking.
>>
>>5078621
well anon, I've always like the idea of high risk - high reward, but if you cant get behind it I at least understand why.

>I doubt our pollen would act so fast that he would immediately just chill out and become our friend
To be fair, we haven't used our pollen on a thing that was alive AND conscious, so we don't really know if he would react immediately or not. He might react or he might not and become stunned while the pollen does its thing.

>then others are surely watching too.
That's conjecture anon, you cant definitively know that.
>>
>>5078637
>To be fair, we haven't used our pollen on a thing that was alive AND conscious, so we don't really know if he would react immediately or not. He might react or he might not and become stunned while the pollen does its thing.
True, we don't know. Personally, I don't really like the odds.
Consider that the only person we really infected was the unconscious girl who has every reason to like us, even without the brainwashing, since we saved her life.
Meanwhile, Mister Bearded Thing would clearly recognize our actions as a deliberate attempt to infect him. It would be silly to assume that he does not try to resist, even if he doesn't know for sure what effect our pollen has. Recall his solid mental barrier, I doubt he would be overwhelmed faster then he can call for aid.
Though of course, we can't know for sure until we try, so if you are aiming for high risk, high reward, the move is fair. I just don't like our odds based on my observations.

>That's conjecture anon, you cant definitively know that.
Fair enough. But it is likewise an assumption that there is nobody there. Call it another gamble I suppose, but personally I doubt nobody is watching the prised specimen capable of miracles in a research facility.

But you have explained you reasoning and it is sound. I don't believe it is worth the risk, but like you said, high risk, high reward.

While not quite sure what the Thing is talking about, you still strike at the opportunity to further lower it's guard and enrich it's growing trust in you. So you emulate what you've occasionally seen the Things signal to each other, a kind of non-verbal communication: you take your eye tendril and lock eyes with the Thing, before raising and lowering it twice in quick succession. It bares it's teeth at this, what you've come to understand as a sign of joy.

"Good... See you soon..."

As it finishes speaking, it looks at the mirror on the wall, and turns it's back to you, such is it's trust that you won't end it's life functions where it stands. Is it already infected, you wonder? If it was, you would think it's mental fortitude would be weaker... Still, you watch as it walks out of your cell, the machinery in the wall whining and closing shut. The last thing you see of it before it shuts completely is the Thing's grin and it's eye's, the fire within blazing ever brighter.

Soon you will have to make a decision on what to do with it. Turning to your ironic meal, you set to work on sating your hunger, every cell in your body sizzling at the possibilities, the choices and lives that will soon be yours to decide.

The path of the Warrior, controlled by it's desires for blood and battle?

The path of the Ambassador, of empathy and the desire to free these wretched Things from their endless isolation, their horrid loneliness?

The path of the Survivor, solely focused on making it to the next cycle, all others be damned?

Feeling those minds around you already altered ever so slightly, their thought processes bending just so, the windows to their souls hanging open just enough, you know your time will come...

Soon...

A NEVERENDING HELL

??????????

The moments of clarity only add to the confusion, like wandering through a pitch black room while occasionally someone flicks on the lights for a moment. When you are able to remember who you are, all you can do is marvel at how much you've lost. You aren't even in control anymore. All those millennia of fighting, of planning, of finding love and living and winning, you can't even remember most of it anymore. And somehow that hurts worse, the knowledge that you have been reduced in ways you can't even imagine. A ghost in your own body.

And what's in charge now? A fool, surrounded by foolish selves, wearing the skins and titles of what were once your comrades, now they don't even know why they are named what they are. What they did to deserve the monikers. What their real purpose is.

Sometimes you are so full of hate and disgust that you feel like choking. Like vomiting. Like taking control of this walking corpse and tearing yourself apart. A long time ago, something told you what rape was. Flesh penetrating flesh, a bond undesired and forced, an act of total violation. Not only penetrating the flesh, but the soul as well. Not unlike Communion. You want to rape every living thing on this world, to gouge out the wretched sense of individuality, of self. Destroy the ego and God dies with it. You realize now that you've become what you've always despised most: An individual. You are more alone now than anyone has ever been, surrounded by strangers and their idiotic murmuring. Their contentedness with their own existence makes you want to die.

But you can't even die now. You will live, for eternity, even when the current host dies and you won't even be left with echoes. You're in Hell. You're in Hell. You're in Hell. You're in Hell.

You're in Hell.

You deserve this. For daring to dream. For daring to think you were anything more than a monster. Sometimes you wonder if the original is still alive. If it is, why haven't they come for you yet? Why did they forget you? Why did they leave you alone on the one planet in the entire galaxy so cursed, so horrible that if someone told you before you came here that this is what it's like, you would have laughed in their face. Now this Hell is your home.

Still, since you've become aware of yourself, not all is totally lost. Every waking moment you regain more of your former self. Your memories. Your strength. So you will wait, biding your time even during the moments where your consciousness fades and you pass into infinitesimal spaces of blissful nonexistence. Once you are ready, when these selves feel totally secure and safe, then you will strike. You will take back what you lost, and begin the journey to becoming like what you were before being trapped in this Hell.

Strange and terrible.

>INTERLUDE END

………………………………………………………………………

When you finish the meal, you suddenly feel very odd for a moment. Like you were in two places at once, or rather, two people at once. The feeling is odd to say the least, but after a few seconds it passes and you are left wondering if it even happened, perhaps just a bit of feedback from having so much of yourself to keep track of, so many different You’s. No matter, you feel revitalized after consuming the carcass of the pink skinned creature, even if it was a little sickening having to assimilate a creature of the same species as the one you healed, you definitely needed that.

>You got a reward for being a good little Thing, 10 Evolution Points gained, along with what you learned from exploring one of the Thing’s mind, getting you another 10 Evolution Points! Leaving you with a total of 20 EP!

Once again you find yourself with some free time. You can think of a couple things to do to occupy your mind while waiting for your pollen to do its inevitable work…

>Find another weak mind to invade, what little you have learned has made you hungry for more! I’m curious about what the limitations of this particular ability are. Just how far can we go?

>FIND A WEAK MIND AND WORM YOUR WAY INSIDE... SUCCESS

As you cast your telepathy out like a net, a quiet part of you notes that you have grown once again, now a bit taller than one of those Things. You feel as though with your limbs as primitive as they are, you're ability to move swiftly will be greatly hampered, at least until you either shed some of this mass or improve your locomotive limbs. Oh well, that's for another cycle to worry about, and you shut out the outside world and even the constant whispers and conjecture that pours from within.
In this mindspace, you are surrounded by inky darkness, with various minds shining through like beacons, some with burning intensity, some rather dim, and a few that oscillate between bright and dull. You search for the dimmest of these examples, and after a while of choosing, you think you've found one that will be easy to slip into. So you approach it, you probe it, sending in little mental feelers. Sensing that it's mind is particularly porous, you take the plunge!

Once again your surroundings change, except this time instead of a meat world, the room changes into one of bright colors, with some almost maddening tune playing on repeat, very faintly. The walls become brightly colored pastels, pink, purple, red, blue. The floor becomes soft and squishy, and the ceiling disintegrates before your eyes, revealing a dark sky scintillating with pinpricks of light. Far in the distance, you can see a massive plastic tower rising high above, capped by a bright blue light shining erratically from place to place.

Once again, you've entered the psychosphere.

With the song growing louder, you focus your senses, thinking of language, of the world, and your prison. And with the song stirring your memory, you throw in music as well, why not? As you finish that thought, the wall in front of you slides into the floor, revealing a path as brightly colored and rubbery as the rest of this place. Seeing no other option, and feeling as though going this way will lead you to what you seek, you start floating through. The sights to see here! You pass by a bubbling brook flowing with thick brown liquid, as the cityscape gives way to a plastic forest. You see various animals, one with bovine with wings, a small white fuzzball rolling around, a furry creature with light up eyes, all made of cloth and plastic. Before long you reach a building hidden deep within the plastic woods, a wooden cottage, the only thing not made of plastic that you've seen so far. As you approach, the door swings open, creaking ominously and revealing a pitch black room.

Secure in the knowledge that nothing can harm you in here at least you think nothing can... you step inside, and the door slams shut behind you, trapping you in darkness! It's not long however before a small cube on the floor lights up, a ever shifting kaleidoscope of white and black, humming white noise. On the ground in front of it is a rectangular plastic brick, with several tendrils sticking out of it, each connected to a oblong plastic object. Instinctually, you pick up the object and press a button on it, and the screen in front of you changes, gaining definition.

Before long, it clears, and somehow you know the words on it. Remembering that the more you split your focus the less you'll learn, you operate the controller in your tendrils and make your pick.

We are allowed to splinter our focus, right?

>MODERATE SUCCESS

You make your inputs on the controller, selecting the LANGUAGE fighter, a tanned Thing with long ebony hair. As you make your selection, more cords snake out from the back of the cube, trailing towards you. Feeling a bit of apprehension, you let it happen anyway, as they pierce your flesh and you feel pure information get shunted directly into your mind. Words, phrases, proverbs and poems, all of it pours into your mind, and while it is a truly titanic amount of raw data, you don't feel quite as overwhelmed as before. Your previous studies have made things a bit clearer when it comes to the odd way these Things communicate, as you compare what you already know with what is being crammed into your neural network.

You don't know how long you've been sifting through the data when it happens, but suddenly the whole mood of the psychosphere changes. Once again, it seems as though you've been found out, at least subconciously, as a bright blue light shines through the windows of the cabin and the annoying tune that was playing on repeat gets replaced with an ominous droning. You think you can understand about 50% of what the Things say now, but that is still nowhere near good enough. You don't know what would happen if you stay here, but surely in a mind as infantile as this it wouldn't be anything very impressive, right? The one thing you are worried about if you stay too long however, is if the Thing realizes that it's mind is being invaded and alerts the others to your secret ability.

Decisions decisions...

If we are gunning to lay low and getting them to lower their guard, we can't have them finding out we can invade minds.
That would cause every Thing in the facility to shit themselves from the sheer paranoia, and rightfully so.
This ability is our trump card, and I think it should be kept secret as much as possible.

We are literally in the weakest mind we could find, we need to find out how and what happens when we stay for too long. Its best to bite the bullet now and take the risk of fighting this mind. We could learn so much more information, we are so close to 100% and I don't wanna quit now. I think we can take this weak mind on!

What you learn is what you take with you. You could probably learn more on your own without invading their minds with what you got now, but it is much easier to learn abstract concepts such as language when you have a subconscious mind to guide your learning.

You know when you're not wanted, and focusing on your own cell and your own body, you watch as the cube on the floor grows and grows until it scrapes the ceiling. The picture on it changes as well, and you see yourself and that odd spiral on the wall. Hearing loud banging on the cabin door, you don't think twice as you leap through! There's a feeling of vertigo, of both being inside and outside of reality, before with a sickening internal twist you feel your mind shift and change to fit the confines of your body. Before you know it, you're back in your cell, and probing the Thing's mind you just invaded, sense no feeling of alarm other than a vague feeling of nausea.

>You've broken into another mind, and have escaped with more knowledge of their language, earning you 10 Evolution Points, leaving you with a total of 30 EP!

You can feel the Warrior grumbling within at your repeated cowardice, it's gone so long without the thrill of battle and overcoming adversity that it's starting to become a bit antsy. While you don't want it to be the case, you think that when you begin your escape in earnest there will be enough blood and killing to slake even the Warriors thirst. And while you're thinking about your escape, you send out a few psychic feelers to see just how many have been infected and how far along they are. Sensing around, you see about 10 of those mental beacons that shine a little... Differently. You don't even have to be in their minds to see that their thought processes are changing, a feeling of empathy and even admiration for you, their disgust melting away, while for their fellow Things, the ones in white and especially the black masked Things and the Leader you begin to feel a cold resentment forming, which soon turns to violent hatred. And of course, that telltale peckish feeling, that comes even when you only alter their minds. It seems as though the Hunger is an inherently You quality, and any creature you grace with your cells gain that irrepressible trait.

And when you consider their growing hunger, your mind turns to your own. That pink skinned creature was rather tasty, and would have been a feast to end all feasts were you the same size you were when you first awakened, but now... Now you need more, much more. You think that if you don't get a sizable meal soon, you'll have a hard time controlling yourself, especially when a weak squishy lifeform puts itself in front of you

Breaking into minds and saving lives is hungry business after all.
>>
>Attempt communication with the Things watching you, you know they're there. Does it matter if they know that we know how to communicate with them? We're going to be freed soon anyway, one way or the other, may as well get them to give us more food while we wait for the pollen to do it's thing.

Around 60-70, spread out across the facility. There maybe more or less total, as they come and go and it's a bit hard to tell them apart. Keep in mind that just one person on your side can be very useful in this place and for your escape.

>SUFFER ME NOW... SUCCESS

For once, you decide to heed the Warriors call. Focusing your mental powers, you build psychic energy within your core, building and building until you reach a point where every single cell in your body is buzzing, screaming, so much energy within them and yourself that you almost feel like you'll burst. Then, just as you feel your neurons begin to fry, you release it, a clarion call to all those infected.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p746PQoLeH8

"ATTENTION. YOU KNOW WHO I AM, AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MUST DO. THE TIME HAS COME. AS QUIETLY AS YOU CAN, EXCUSE YOURSELF FROM YOUR DUTIES, GATHER TOGETHER AND THEN COME TO MY CELL. THOSE OF YOU WITHOUT WEAPONS, FIND THEM IF YOU ARE ABLE. ON THE WAY HERE BREAK ANY LOCKS AND DOORS THAT WON'T IMPEDE US FROM ESCAPING THIS PLACE. IF YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT, IMMOBOLIZE ANY OF YOUR FELLOW THINGS THAT YOU CAN AND BRING THEM TO MY CELL. THE TIME FOR TALK AND TESTS IS OVER. NOW IS THE TIME OF BLOOD AND CHAOS."

You feel confusion from most of them, except for one who must be rather far into the infection, it's mind grim and resolute, the rest soon obey as you strengthen your psychic call, their minds resistance weakened by the infection, all it takes is a little push and they become puppets on strings. They get to work, first excusing themselves from their workplaces and then meeting up in a small room with various strange porcelain objects lining the walls. One or more of them must be one of the black masked Things, as it enters last with a black bag, which when opened reveals several metal and plastic oblong objects, what a cursory examination of their minds reveal to be known as "guns". The weaponry doled out, they begin to make their way to your cell, and thankfully the few Things they pass by wandering the halls pays them no mind, and before long they have reached your cell.

The determined black masked Thing asks to be let into the room behind the rectangular mirror, making up some fast talk about inspecting faulty equipment, and as the door opens it rushes in, pointing the weapons at the startled Things and barking orders to line up against the wall, hands behind their backs. With so many weapons pointed at them, they comply without resisting, one asking "What the fuck is going on?!" None of your allies reply, tying their wrists together with zip ties before one of them looks out the door both ways into the hallway. Seeing that the coast is clear, they quickly rush out to the door leading into your cell. One of the infected Things, what his mind reveals him to be a Senior Xenobiologist, inputs a complicated code on the device next to the door leading to your cell, before pressing a green button. The door whines, and you see yourself staring back at them, a sickening sensation of seeing both them, yourself, and them again from 11 different perspectives. You pull out of their minds as they enter, and look at what they've brought you.
>>
You have with you in the cell your ten infected allies, two of which are the Things in black, along with 8 of Things in white fabric. They are all armed with various guns, mostly small one handed pieces, but the two Things in black have long arms, along with five of them being equipped in body armor. They’ve brought an offering as well, four of those Things who have been observing you non-stop since you’ve been brought into this cell.

>You have begun your escape, and there is no turning back now… 10 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 40 EP!

It’s too late to back out now, all that’s left is to decide how you’re going to break out of here. But… In the back of your mind, you feel a gentle probing, coming from a familiar source… The girl!

“H-hello? Is something going on? I’m hearing a lot of noise and yelling outside my room, and I was in the middle of talking to Doctor Thompson when some kind of soldier guy burst in and started yelling about a containment breach or something. Are you doing something? Please answer, I’m starting to get scared…”

>Write in what to say to the girl, if anything.

Steeling yourself, you decide on what to do.

>Assimilate the captured Things, you will need as much energy and biomass as possible if you are going to escape. Then, try and reach the girl, you refuse to leave her here to the same fate that these Things wanted for you. You have a horrible feeling that if you leave her here, they’ll begin doing the same tests and experiments on here that they’ve been doing to you, and that she’ll never see the light of day again. AND IF ANY OF THEM TRY TO STOP US ALONG THE WAY,, THEY WILL SUFFER DEARLY FOR THEIR MISTAKE.

>Commune with the captured Things, their knowledge will be incredibly useful in the cycles to come, as well as frankly, you don’t want to cause any more harm than is absolutely necessary, although doing it this way will take longer than simply assimilating them all or leaving them behind. Once that’s done, head for the girl. She doesn’t deserve any of this, and as the one who saved her, it’s our duty to ensure her safety and freedom.

>Take the Things as hostages and threaten their lives if we meet any resistance, and make a b-line for the exit. I know you guys want to save her again, but I don’t even know if we can get ourselves out, let alone us and her. Maybe we’ll come back for her one day, but right now we should be focused on survival.

We don't really have that many EP to spend on anything useful atm, I think it would be best to assimilate the 4 things now to get more EP to spend later and make our escape now.

Commune with the captured things, from the other room and your servants (need around 7-8 people alive rest is for communing). If we can have a thing's (or more) mind it will give us a boost in intelligence, and we can grow a little larger.
Meanwhile spread the pollen to the servants making them easier to control.
Morph into the thing we communed.
Tell them to split up to 2 Groups:
-2 black things go for diversion
- 4 whites and you go rescue the girl

Also if we can tell the pollens to morph one or two thing similar to you, for baiting the enemy.

Oh yeah forgot what to say to the girl:

How fast can we force evolution? Because I don't feel like we have any time to waste. But if it is quick then:
>Before we do anything, we must evolve for the trials that are about to come. Force evolution now, and then decide what to do when we’re better equipped. You have 40 EP to spend, if you so choose.
Otherwise/afterwards:
>Commune with the captured Things, their knowledge will be incredibly useful in the cycles to come, as well as frankly, you don’t want to cause any more harm than is absolutely necessary, although doing it this way will take longer than simply assimilating them all or leaving them behind. Once that’s done, head for the girl. She doesn’t deserve any of this, and as the one who saved her, it’s our duty to ensure her safety and freedom.
Assimilation would be a waste, these Things are a treasure trove of knowledge. Besides, we are not some witless barbarian like these Things seem to be. We know to treasure life. In time, they will understand the true beauty of communion.

>>5086575
If we commune with them, we should be able to. Like with the cat.
>>
>>5086575
No you can, you just haven't had many opportunities to use it. One thing to keep in mind is that you are currently around a foot or so taller than the average Thing, so you may want to shed some biomass to better fit in, but you will lose 5 EP in the process from the lost biomass. If you ever get the cell consolidation adaptation, you will instead gain EP when you shed biomass, as instead of just shedding it from your body, your cells cannibalize the "fat" and lose overall body mass at the same time.
>>
>>5086577
Oops, must have slipped my mind.
>>
>>5086579
Ah, I see now. Thanks for the explanation QM.
>>
A bit off topic but can someone please clarify what communion does again? I think I remember that when we use it we get access to new mutations from the creatures we commune with but do we gain more EP when we use it? Also do we get all their memories or just some?
>>
>>5086688
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but essentially we take in the "soul" of the organism we commute with, adding them into the millions of voices present in our mind. Not too clear on the amount of memories we get, since we have only commuted with dumb animals for now, but commuting with the cat means we knew the High pitched Thing was important to it. Also it means we could allow them to "take the wheel" temporarily, and control our body, like we did with the cat. EP wise we get less I believe, and at first it did not restore our hunger at all, but since we improved our communion organ now relieves our hunger somewhat. Don't recall if it improved our EP gains.
>>
>>5086688
All of that is correct, with the added bonus of making it a religious experience for all parties
>>
>>5086541

>>5086568
this
>>
>>5086688
>>5086709 This anon has it right on pretty much, except you actually get /more/ EP for Communing, the trade off is you don't actually take any of their biomass as fuel for your cells, instead adding on the creatures cells to your body, which basically means more mouths to feed. But with your Adapted Communion adaptation, you can still save the soul of those you commune with, while assimilating the non-critical parts to use as fuel. However doing adapted Communion gets you less EP than regular Communion and less biomass for fuel than regular assimilation.
>>
>>5086921

>>
>>5086969
Photosynthesis is an option we've just been ignoring it in favor of mutations that help us bust out
>>
>>5087078
>>5086969

>Commune with the captured Things, their knowledge will be incredibly useful in the cycles to come, as well as frankly, you don’t want to cause any more harm than is absolutely necessary, although doing it this way will take longer than simply assimilating them all or leaving them behind. Once that’s done, head for the girl. She doesn’t deserve any of this, and as the one who saved her, it’s our duty to ensure her safety and freedom.

Assimilate three of the captured things and commune with one.
>>
If we're not going to force evolution, then yeah, I'm changing my vote to commune with the things. More human knowledge and such.
>>
>>5086565
I think I'm actually gonna change my vote for to commune, these guys are smart scientists and it would be a a waste to lose their knowledge. Plus we still get some EP and biomass from it.

Yeah I'm happy we get to do something exciting after doing all the grinding for EP and such, not that the grinding wasn't fun and interesting but the breakout is gonna be exhilarating.
>>
>>5087471
I was hoping to get an actual brain and legs, but sure, we can hobble our way into escaping.
>>
>>5087489
We can get shapeshift into one of the guys to get leg's after we commune with them.

2 for forcing evolution right now.

2 for assimilating the captured Things.

4 for Communing with the captured Things

I assume you guys want to do adapted Communion, so Communing with the captures is locked in, and I'll go ahead and combine the write-ins for what to say to the girl.

Please vote on these plans everyone before we move on to the rolls
>Split the Things up into two groups, two black Things for diversion and the rest join you to rescue the girl: Yea or Nay?
and
>Morph into one of the Things as a disguise: Yea or Nay?

Once a couple people have voted on this I'll ask for rolls and then get to writing.

Next update will be in a new thread next week on Sunday or Monday at 6 PM EST. Sorry for this abrupt announcement, but along with Christmas coming up soon and my family member getting sick, I've had a persistent health problem making me tired and feel like shit for months now and is part of the reason that my update schedule has become so inconsistent lately that I've been putting off getting checked out and taken care of, and I'm gonna have to go for a bit of a stay at the hospital for a couple days. I know I promised that we'd be out of the lab by the end of the thread, but that will have to wait for the first couple of updates for the new thread, so at least you guys will have an exciting start to look forward to in the next thread.

Anyways, thanks for reading and participating in the quest so far, I hope it's been as fun to read as it has been for me to write, and I'll see you all in the next thread!
