Last time, you infiltrated the Orphanage of the Blue, met with the renowned phantom thief Houda Lan, and showed him a dog plushy, so you’re working together! You have to entertain everyone while the fancy kleptomaniac gathers the information you need.

Right now, you’re at the wonderful garden roof of the orphanage, facing Ophelia’s ghost form while two of the orphan kids watch. You’re carrying the headmistress’ actual body while invisible. It's complicated.

“Intruder, please settle down and heed my words. Let’s start a meaningful conversation, shall we?” Ophelia has a sudden shift of priorities.

“I don’t negotiate with child traffickers.” You retort! As a man of principle, you can’t negotiate with anyone. What would your mother think if you did? You’d be no better than Amelia…

“W-What is that voice?” The orphan guy with a tiny face gets all shocked.

“It’s the guy holding Ms. Ophelia.” The orphan girl lets her buddy know. You don’t blame the guy for acting clueless even after being told that.

“What did I just say, dear?” Ophelia intimidates the poor orphan girl as she puts a finger in front of her face. “Please, send Lester to find the others. Him and him alone.”

“Yes, ma’am. Lester, Ms. Ophelia wants you to bring the birds.” The orphan girl theatrically puts her hand on this Lester kid’s ear and whispers loudly.

“The birds? But I’m not their guardian.” Lester refuses to follow his mate’s instructions. “More importantly, Ms. Ophelia’s body is floating there, I should do something about it…” The man’s legs are wobbling, you don’t think he’s gonna do anything.

“Tell him to stay put and be quiet.” Ophelia dismisses everything those two said and goes back to you. The girl relays the message to her partner. “Intruder, I believe we started off on the wrong foot.”

"A meaningful conversation requires a degree of trust, I don't know why I'd trust you...and you certainly shouldn't trust me given what I could do to you right now." You bring some rationality to this.

“Young man, don’t pretend to be smarter than you are, it doesn’t suit you. Unless you want to expose yourself as a donkey.” Ophelia retorts, humorless. “Did you forget where you are? Do you believe you can come out of here alive? If anything, I’m offering you a chance to be more than a distant memory to those you love.” Ophelia changes postures, from unwelcoming to friendly, like a machine going into different states. “Let me know how I can earn that trust of yours, intruder. There’s no need to be at odds with each other.”

How do you respond?

>“Ha! Do you really think you’re in control when I can do this?!” Dance with Ophelia’s body to show your supremacy.
>“How about you tell me what’s going on for starters?” A long tale will buy a lot of time!
>“First, I want everyone off of this roof if you actually want a conversation here to happen.” You’re going to negotiate with child traffickers! You’re a hypocrite!
>“Those two know about all the evil things you’ve done?” Try to involve the orphan kids.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“Those two know about all the evil things you’ve done?” You’ll try to involve the orphan kids in this. The fewer allies Ophelia has, the better!

“Ms. Ophelia is not capable of doing evil for the sake of it.” Orphan girl gets actually annoyed by your comments. “An outsider has no right to judge her actions.”

“Who are you even?! Who are you talking to?!” Lester kid shouts really obnoxiously, he doesn’t like you being judgmental now that he’s having a little grasp of the situation.

“While I appreciate your kind words, children. I’ll ask you for the last time to keep quiet.” Ophelia chuckles at your ingenuity. Unlike Sieb, they look completely brainwashed. The orphan girl once again repeats the words to the other guy. “Is that all you’re good for? Creating dissent? Well, to call you good would be an overstatement. End your charades, you’ll get little done.”

The back entrance opens! Sieb has arrived! You’re standing in the middle between him and the orphan kids, closer to the exit where your megane brother is. There’s a lot of space in the middle in case you need to start dodging.

“H-Here she is!” Sieb is glad to have found Ophelia’s body. “Kids, are you all right?” Both of the orphan kids on the other side of the roof nod. “Thank god… Don’t move. I’ll handle this.”

“Can you tell now that you’ve been lied to, Sieb?” Ophelia is happy to have proven you wrong.

“Sorry, but this isn’t exactly the end of it, he he he.” Sieb is not taking this as seriously as Ophelia would like. “You’ll have to speak up, Ophelia, I’m struggling to make out what you’re saying.” Sieb smiles, Ophelia frowns. “Yes, relax, your body will be safe. I’ll make sure of it.”

“I’ve never seen Ms. Ophelia using her astral projection before…” The odd girl is concerned about this for some reason. Maybe being a ghost isn’t good in the long run…?

Sssh…” Sieb shushes the talkative girl. He’s leaving the stage to Ophelia…

“I don’t wish to hurt you, young man. There’s little to gain for any of us if we decide on a scuffle. I’ve never dreamed of witnessing an individual with your wonderful abilities, so let’s not waste this opportunity to befriend each other, shall we?” Ophelia is icy cold when addressing you. “I’ll start by addressing your hefty accusations. It’s a great shame you’ve been misinformed this badly. If you allow me to explain, I think you’re going to change your mind.”

Ophelia must be pretty dumb to think you can be convinced after all you two have gone through in the last few minutes…

What do you do?

>“Are you going to deny the beatings too, huh? You’re abusing these children and I’m not gonna stand for any of it for any reason.” You’ll defy Ophelia.
>“If you’re that confident, then why is Sieb here doubting you? Hmm?” Point out Ophelia’s not clean of sin even among her believers!
>”You know I can throw your body over the roof and there’s nothing you can do about it?” Take control of the situation. Why are you letting her dictate what’s going on?

“Are you going to deny the beatings too, huh?” You’d aggressively point at Ophelia if you weren’t carrying her body on your shoulders. “You’re abusing these children and I’m not gonna stand for any of it for any reason.”

“Beatings?” Ophelia acts like she has no idea what you’re talking about.

“What is he talking about? Abuse?! It’s all for discipline!” Lester doesn’t understand what he witnessed. “Like everyone deserves some whacking every now and then.”

“You just need to behave and you’ll be rewarded…” The girl doesn’t sound as committed as her buddy.

“This is where the bruises come from, Ophelia?” Sieb is brave enough to confront her too.

“I exposed his lies just a moment ago, but you can’t wait before the sun sets before doubting me again? You’re a fickle man, Sieb Bruun.” Ophelia is disappointed in her right-hand man. “I pulled you out from the abyss, I sheltered you when no one else would – What else do you want from me? The least you owe me is a minuscule amount of trust. Do not heed his lies.”

“…Perhaps I do owe you.” Sieb adjusts his glasses. “But the kids just admitted that—"

“That what, geezer?! Huh?! Like we care! What’s the big deal?!” The angry small faced kid lost his temper. “You wanna act all high and mighty because of this? You’re not the one dealing with everyone when they have to get work done! It’s not easy!”

“L-Lester, you heard what Ms. Ophelia said…!” The girl covers her mouth with both hands in shock.

“Huh…? What are you talking about?” Lester doesn’t get what’s going on. “She’s over there floating, of course I can’t hear her.”

Huhuhuhu…” Ophelia giggles. “I wasn’t expecting that from you, Lester. I’m proud.”

“…I’m sorry, Ms. Ophelia, I don’t think he heard you this time.” The abused girl gives the bad news.

“My words of praise always fall on deaf ears…” Ophelia has a sense of humor. “Fiora, he might not be your guardian for much longer, so prepare yourself.”

“That doesn’t change the facts.” Sieb stands his ground.

“You’re quick to cleanse yourself from sin, Sieb. Sometimes I forget you haven’t changed much from our days of youth.” Ophelia glares at another four-eyed man this time. “You spoiled these brats, Sieb, I just put them back in line. You never taught them how to behave, any order in the slightest, any sense of responsibility. You just coddled them into sensitive little pricks. We need to prepare them to face reality. You said you were proud of them, didn’t you? Well, they wouldn’t have developed into what they are without my intervention. They’re better thanks to us.”

“I… see…” Sieb doesn’t like the idea, but…

>“What are you talking about? You just beat them up to get their stupid shitty superpowers out! Just some messed-up training! She doesn’t care about their wellbeing.” Keep calling her out!

If Angra Mainyu is the entity behind the judges and the contest then the implications are pretty remarkable...and we definitely should prioritize unlocking Dorothy's computer to get intel as well.

“Sieb, do you really think Wilma was happier here than when she first came in?” You’ll bet it all in convincing him that Ophelia is one who’s wrong here!

“…” Sieb looks like he found the answer he was looking for.

“Wilma? Is that the name of the girl we’re forbidden from talking to?” Fiora asks her guardian.

“T-The one and only, but why is he mentioning her…? C-Can you tell me what’s going on…?” Lester is so lost right now.

“I-I cannot, I need to pay attention myself…” Fiora dismisses her guardian.

“Discipline doesn’t call for knocking a little girl’s teeth out. There are other and better ways to get children to do what you want.” You know there’s no reason to be abusive! It should be obvious! “You're only hiding behind that word. I don't know if it's your own cruelty or some misguided purpose that drives you to beat these kids, but you've admitted to it. I can't stand to hear you say it's for their own sake, are you okay with this Sieb?”

“Fiora. Tell me. Have I raised my hand against you unjustly?” Ophelia doesn’t let Sieb get a word in.

“No, Ms. Ophelia.” The orphan girl denies the accusation.

“Was it for my own amusement? Was I cruel? Or did I stop once you learned your lesson?” Ophelia asks again.

“Y-You did it twice, Ms. Ophelia, and never again.” Fiora closes her eyes, trying to not recall the moment. “Everyone went through the same process, and we’re better for it.”

“You’ve grown so much, my little chestnut. I’m proud.” Ophelia smiles at Fiora, then turns to the gardener. “Again with the bruises? They are a result of all the farm labor they’re helping us with. Do I have to repeat myself every day, Sieb? You’ve known since day one that all my children will support our endeavors, you agreed to it.” Ophelia focuses on you now. “We’ve languished for far too long. You’ve shown little to no flexibility in our talk, only use it to cause friction. I’m interested in your potential, but my patience has run thin, I’ll restrain you. Fiora, send Lester to find the birds now, or he’ll be punished.”

“Right, Ms. Ophelia.” Fiora spins around and puts her hand over Lester’s ear to whisper. “Bring the birds, Ms. Ophelia’s orders are absolute.”

“…Okay!” Unlike last time, Lester took these orders to heart and starts taking the long route to the door, going around everyone in fear of retaliation.

“He He He. I apologize, but nobody is going anywhere yet.” Sieb locks the door behind him with a key.

“Fiora, please, use your ability on the man holding me.” Ophelia plainly ignores what Sieb just did. Her whole attention is on you.

“M-Ms. Ophelia, I—”

Don’t doubt yourself now.” Ophelia’s tender words are accompanied by a terrifying glare! That didn’t look like it helped the Orphan girl in the slightest.

“N-No pressure…” Fiora retorts sarcastically to herself. She begins concentrating…

“Fiona, you’re too much of a moron to do it!” You heckle her like she’s Giorsal. Okay, not that badly yet.

“E-Excuse me…?” Fiora gets flustered with ease.

Don’t lose your concentration.” Ophelia demands a better work ethic.

“You heard me, moron!” You’re relentless. A man who would do anything necessary to get things done. After the stuff you did to van Zullekom, you’ve changed…

“Hey! The only one who can call her moron is me!” The bigger moron kid forgets he’s supposed to leave, well, with the door locked, you can’t blame him for shifting priorities.

Fiora. Deep breathes.” Ophelia commands Fiora to calm down.

Eeh-Fwo. Eeh-Fwo. Eeh-Fwo.” Fiora is erratically breathing hard.

“Don’t use your mouth…” Ophelia can’t tolerate this level of incompetency.

“You don’t have to do it, Fiora.” A gentler Sieb says. He still sounds creepy to you… “It’s gonna be fine.”

“It’s an absolute order, Fiora.” Ophelia won’t take No for an answer.

“Agh…!” Fiora concentrates with all her might and creates a tiny transparent circle under her. Like, a toe sized one. It’s pathetic. “I apologize…” She’s too overwhelmed to do it.

“Lester, take Fiora to her room and stay there until I come around.” Sieb is making moves of his own, he shows him the keys.

“B-But…” Lester knows he has something else to do.

“I’ll take care of everything, I promise.” Sieb’s empty smile shouldn’t convince anyone, but Lester doesn’t seem troubled by it, and goes to pick up Fiora.

“What do you think you are doing?” Ophelia doesn’t take kindly to it. Sieb acts like he can’t hear her. “Fiora, you’re going to stay.”

“Y-Yes, Ms. Ophelia.” Fiora pushes Lester away.

“Hey, I’m doing what I’m told!” Lester just wants to leave.

“So I am.” Fiora retorts, annoyed.

“C’mon!” Lester forcefully drags Fiora from the arm.

“Hey, be gentler with her. We always play nice here.” Sieb’s smile can’t hide his concern.

“You want this done or not?!” Lester is too pressured to act level-headed.

Fiora…” Ophelia won’t say it again.

Fiora starts struggling again, agitating Lester who grabs her by both arms.

This is escalating…

Meanwhile in Dream Hill

Xavi, Scarlet and Lise are playing a card game called Rich Sirens together on a crater waiting for news on Johnny, Matilda, and the others.

“I wonder if Johnny is okay…” Scarlet sighs as she looks away at the distance.

“You have a lot of time to think when you’re losing.” Lise smirks.

“S-Shut up…!” Scarlet complains as Xavi chuckles.

Back to the Bubble (Which is not Scarlet)

“HEY EVERYBODY!” You call for everyone’s attention! “LOOK!”

You take Ophelia’s body off your shoulder, grab her by the arms, put your legs behind hers – and you make her dance! Yay!

Doo-Doo-Doo-Bee-Bee-Doo-Doo! Shake those hips! Yeah! Yeah!

Yeah, you got practice before with Barry when you threw him at the hospital with Osgood, good times! You two had a moment when you actually made him dance too, too bad it was short-lived, like Osgood! Or Barry… You miss your friend…

“Pffft…” Fiora is the first one to break, her laugh is pretty unique, not Calamity unique, but out there. Everyone’s distracted now!

“He He He!” Sieb finds this humorous too.

What do you think you’re doing?” Ophelia doesn’t find this funny one bit.

“S-She’s not awake! She’s forced into this terrible routine! There’s nothing funny about it!” Lester gets all angry. He has a short fuse, as short as his face.

“Hey!” You feel offended. Everyone’s a critic…

You’ll hit him with the zombie walk to keep his mouth shut! Yeah, you like that! Don’t you?! You’re not gonna lie, she’s kinda heavy…

“Sieb! Fiora! Stop him!” Ophelia is more enraged she’s being ignored than her body being used for your own amusement.

“I’m sorry, but I’ve never seen you move like that!” Sieb is enjoying himself way too much…

But Ophelia doesn’t take his words lightly and charges into Sieb, like her ghost form just possessed him…! He’s twitching and moving erratically! Way, way worse than what you’re doing. This doesn’t feel planned at all and—

You start hearing the fire alarm. You didn’t know there was a fire alarm in this building, but it didn’t last very long, like someone pulled it by mistake. Was that a signal? Maybe Houda? You should’ve agreed on one…

You have a woman possessing a man’s body, a moron, and a guy with a small face – and a heavy body in your arms.

What are you going to do?!

>Throw Ophelia’s body onto Sieb, then steal the key and get out of here.
>“Well ladies and gentlemen, it was nice seeing you all!” Use Philonune to jump away from the roof and take Ophelia’s body with you!

“Well ladies and gentlemen, it was nice seeing you all!” You got the signal, time to leave in style! You turn Ophelia’s body invisible too, and put her on your shoulders.

“Y-You can’t RRUn…” The merged voices of Ophelia and Sieb shriek in anger. “fIORa. NOW…!”

“Aaah…?” Fiora went from laughter to confusion. She starts concentrating again, and another small transparent circle appears under her, but it is gaining size!

“What the hell is going on...?!” Lester just falls back to the ground.

Everything everyone is saying on the roof becomes white noise as you bring Philonune out for your escape route!

AAAAH!!!” Fiora breaks down upon seeing your smirking partner, and with that, the circle is gone. You’ll never know what it is for.

“W-Why are you screaming?!” Lester should shut up.

Now, you jump on Philonune’s back and the two of you jump off the building! It’s just 3 stories tall, so you don’t think it’s going to be an issue with Philonune’s supernatural strength! He didn’t complain, so you’ll be fine!

Midway through your maneuver, Ophelia ditched Sieb’s body like it was sweaty clothes in the middle of the summer! The gardener drops unconscious on the ground, and the ghost form of Ophelia starts forming again. What a bad move she made by doing whatever she did before.

As you reach the ground, you see Ophelia’s ghost descending from the top of the building, she’s not that fast. You expected ghosts to be faster. But to be fair, you saw some flames escape the clinic and they were fairly slow – so she’s faster than average. Either way, you need to get the hell out of here…!

Also you feel a tingling sensation on your legs once you reach the ground…

What do you do?! (This will include a Dice Roll to see if you ditch Ghost Ophelia. (Athletics Based, Hard Difficulty))

>Run away aimlessly, try to find a tree where you can throw Ophelia’s body onto to distract her and then escape for good! She won’t be able to track you!
>Take Ophelia’s body to the van! Matilda must have some stuff to tie Ophelia up! You’ll get your answers.
>Go back to van Zullekom’s home. You need to reunite with Houda Lan and he’s probably going there! Besides, you’ll have the criminal with you!

Remember - she is still a powerful and influential figure and she IS PISSED right now. Going somewhere near police or, god forbid, van or tomato squad spells a certain doom for them. Neither we can ditch her body either, SINCE SHE SAW US AND WILL START A MANHUNT ONCE SHE IS BACK TO HER BODY. So, we have to do this:
>Try to find Houda Lan right now. You need to know if he got all you need before leaving here for good.

Sounds about right.

She will attempt to start a manhunt, but aside from her orphans I don't think she'll be getting much help. She doesn't have a picture (or any other witnesses) to show anyone 'official'.

Throw her body into a tree, then try to find Houda. I don't want Ghostphelia even seeing us talk to an accomplice.
>>
>>5093442
+1 any accomplice we talk to will be investigated and offed offscreen, we CANNOT risk this
>>
>>5093487
I'm not sure those concerns apply to Houda, he's already got the government and the Heavenly Pillars after him.

Now that you bring it up though, I'm a bit torn. The best way to hide something from someone is to make them think they've already figured things out. Since Houda ought to be able to handle any heat that comes his way he'd make a prime candidate to prevent investigations (from Ophelia) against Yareli and Kobashi...

Hmm, I'm just not sure.

There’s no time to think! You must lose Ghost Ophelia first before doing anything else! With her out of the way, the mission will be complete. You start sprinting away as fast as your legs allow! There’s a tiny concentration of trees nearby, so you’ll take advantage of those, but you need to go over the fence. The tingling sensation on your legs is not gone, and a small headache is brewing; but none of these things will matter if you get this done quickly.

You once again use your partner to skip the wall in one swift movement, now you’re legally out of the orphanage’s property. There are some bushes and trees if you continue going forward. You noticed before, but there is a lot of empty space in between the buildings in this town – empty lots that haven’t been properly maintained.

The ghost of Ophelia is approaching at running speed, losing altitude. You assume with the trees in the way, there was no way she could see you. As far as you can tell, whatever her ghost vision is, it only allows her to break your invisibility veil, but they don’t work like thermal glasses! You’ll take this to your advantage!

Since Ophelia is beelining you, you have an idea! Philonune takes his spear and pretends to attack Ophelia from where he is! Ophelia flinches, not knowing what to expect! In that exact moment of reflex, you jump inside the bushes and turn Philonune back into flame form. You know Ophelia has no real idea of what you and Philonune are capable of doing, so maybe this bluff worked, but did it buy enough time? Regardless, you swim inside the bushes to remain undetected, it’s damn uncomfortable. After a while, you come out to peek upwards. You see Ghost Ophelia floating sky-high looking around exasperated for your trail, her eyes not leaving the sector you’re in. You lost her, but this is going to turn into a waiting game…

But out of your hoodie, Naiad comes out in her Rocketship at great speed towards Ophelia! She indicates with a peculiar dance that she’ll distract the vindictive caretaker! This must’ve taken a lot of courage out of the fairy, you remember how fearful she was when she met Xavi, and now, she’s going to make one daring move all by herself!

Fuck, you would’ve stopped her if you noticed it a little sooner. But once you look at the flashing fish cap on your pinky, something tells you that you need to trust her no matter what!

You leave your bush and go to the opposite side of where you were going after jumping off. You’re at the east side of the Orphanage building, but now you’re going to the west one! You just need to find a place to hide over there then slowly sneak away until you’re safe.

As you manage to flee to your next objective, you find the perfect bush to hide in! You jump into it, and look upwards to see if Naiad is okay… You see nothing up there, but you feel a presence approaching, at eye level, coming from your left side, you see the tiny heroic fairy – she lands inside your hoodie, almost choking you from the recoil. This pushes you a couple of bushes away, landing on someone else…

“Agh—!” It’s Houda Lan, and you made him drop his binoculars! He was probably looking for you.

“S-Sorry…” You know crash landings aren’t pretty. You immediately ignore the phantom thief, to check on Naiad. You pull her out of your hoodie, and she salutes! Mission accomplished! Oh shit, right, you lose the invisibility inside the bush. “I’m out!”

“I-I can see that, Phil…” Houda chuckles even though he’s in a little pain.

“Did you get everything?” You whisper.

“I’m a go-getter, sunshine. When the stakes are high, I reach higher.” Houda shows the goods in a bag! He did the deed! Hooray! “But I must say, as precious as they are, these aren’t the types of gems I’m fond of.” The phantom thief points out that you’re carrying Ophelia. “Do you mind an explanation?”

Yeah, this is kind of awkward.

Where do you go now?

“Later, we must go! We’re not safe yet!” There’s literally no time to explain here, you need to go to Zullekom’s home!

“In that case, let’s haste!” Houda starts swimming through the bushes, but then he comes back. “Do you happen to have an escape vehicle?”

“No.” You shake your head.

“You came here on foot?” Houda Lan’s mask is hiding his concern.

“Yeah.” You nod like a doofus.

“Terrific.” Houda Lan doesn’t know if he should take you seriously. “Follow me, Phil. I came prepared.”

“We’re going to van Zullekom’s house, right?” You need to confirm.

“My idea was to leave this town and never come back, but your plan goes further than mine, so why not?” Houda Lan will go along with what you want.

And so, you snuck away for a while until you found a funny little car that belongs to Houda in the middle of nowhere. Houda put everything in the back, and you took off your hoodie to put it on Ophelia to disguise her – then put her seatbelt on and sat beside her. Houda Lan joked he has never been someone’s chauffeur before. And you left… Houda got lost for a second, so you gave him directions, which didn’t allow you to explain anything about Ophelia. A couple of minutes later, you’re back outside van Zullekom’s house.

“Yes, this is Vanessa’s house.” Houda takes out a picture to verify. “Well, Phil, we’ve been most agreeable with each other so far, so I have a tiny request before we move forward. Could you please bring Vanessa here so we can have a private conversation, just the two of us?”

What do you do?

>“Sure, no problem.” Accept! If you can’t trust a famous phantom thief and a suspicious lieutenant, who can you trust?
>“There’s cake inside.” Convince him to come with you. It’ll be fine.
>“There’s a policewoman with her, if you allow her to stay around, I see no problem.” Compromise. You know if you leave them alone, Yareli will not look angry, but she’ll be angry.

“Sure, no problem.” You accept! If you can’t trust a famous phantom thief and a suspicious police lieutenant, who can you trust? “Though, I’d appreciate it immensely if you hand the evidence over.”

“I thought you’d be happy with your bounty.” Houda smirks as he watches the unconscious Ophelia twitch.

“Eeh… That’s debatable…” You need to figure out what to do with her.

“I’m pulling your leg, buddy. I’ll be out in a second, just let me pull out the key…” The glamorous thief chuckles at the thought of you taking his quips seriously.

“That’s fine. By the way, why are you collecting the Stones of Power?” You raise an eyebrow as you take Ophelia out of the back of the car.

“Hahaha, oh dear me. Vanessa told you that much, didn’t she?” Houda wants to facepalm. He leaves the car after opening the trunk. “Look, you’re an interesting fellow, but I need to exchange some words with the captain first. Keep your questions in your head for later. I’m not going anywhere as long as you keep the dog with you.”

“Why is it important…?” You take out the dog to examine it again while Houda grabs the bag for you.

“Maybe write them down.” Houda smiles as he hands over the evidence. It’s the entire bag he showed you before. One part of you thinks he didn’t find what he was looking for. “Don’t enjoy the spoils too much, Phil.”

“I’ll be seeing ya.” You grab the bag and put it on Ophelia… Then make your way to the entrance of the house.

Yareli opens the door for you after you knock, you inform her what’s going on with a few words. She wasn’t over the moon with your decision to allow Lt. van Zullekom to catch up with her thief friend, but she doesn’t have any reason not to trust her boss anymore, or so she says. You’re thankful Yareli didn’t even mention Ophelia, maybe the hoodie is too great of a disguise – or maybe the evidence was too juicy for her to ignore. Either way, things move as planned! Lt. van Zullekom sounded really grateful for bringing her friend here, so you feel like you’ve done some good. Does everyone think you’re dragging a sack of potatoes or something? Why does nobody care about the body on your shoulders?

You’re back in the living room, Mirjam and Grace are still here! Yareli’s attention is on the evidence and nothing else, and the tomatoes just noticed your presence!

What do you do?

>“Look everyone, I brought a Child Abuser!” Show Ophelia to the tomato duo. That’s a terrible introduction, but it will set the tone.
>“Yareli. I have Ophelia here. Hello?” You have the elephant in the room on your shoulders! Make Yareli notice!

“Phil!” Both girls say in unison! They look so happy to see you again!

“Miss me?” You wink for the sake of it. Both girls continue smiling brightly.

“We thought you were going to be out for the entirrrre day.” Mirjam is beyond relieved.

“By the by, what do you have there?” Grace noticed the mass over your shoulder.

“Oh, this?” You grab Ophelia off your shoulders. “Hold on for a sec, this reminded me of something.” You turn to Yareli. “Yareli, I have Ophelia here, hello…?” How did she not notice?!

“…Pardon?” Yareli turns to you, leaving the papers she’s looking into on the table.

You take the hood off Ophelia, then scrub her onto Yareli’s face! Your disguise was far too good.

“Huh?” Yareli doesn’t look surprised somehow.

“T-That’s Wilma’s caretaker’s name, r-right?” Mirjam is trying to make sense of this.

“So that’s what she looks like! Hehehe.” Grace smiles and nods. “Hold on… W-Why is she here?!” Grace just realized there’s something wrong here.

“My thoughts exactly.” Yareli is lost for words.

“Yeah, why…?” You grab your oversized human plushy and stare at her intensively.

“Don’t tell me you brought her here for no reason?” Yareli is going to look angry for the first time in her life if you don’t say anything.

“Of course, I have a good reason.” You adjust your glasses. “And the reason I brought her is…”

How do you complete this sentence?

>“…Not a good one.” You don’t know… But it could be useful!
>“…To keep an eye on her. Let’s say this is a preemptive arrest.” With the evidence in hand, it’s just a matter of time.
>“...To interrogate her, of course.” Yeah, that sounds sensible, even if a little crazy.
>“…Because I want to adopt her as my oversized cat.” You’ll have two oversized cats! Hooray!
>“...For a makeover…?” Ophelia looks too evil to keep her around, even with the hoodie.
>“…a very complicated one. I can’t explain it easily but you have to trust me.” A lot of supernatural shenanigans for everyone to comprehend.

“And the reason I brought her is a very complicated one. Also, it doesn’t seem like she can track it either.”

“That ain’t so complicated.” If Grace says it, it must be true.

“H-How can she separate herself from her body?” Mirjam asks the most important question if you’re not used to flame shenanigans.

“Like in movies, duh!” Grace accepts it without a hitch.

“B-But this isn’t a movie.” Mirjam rightfully points out.

“Feels like it.” Grace keeps staring at you with a goofy smile. What a dummy.

“That clears things up, Phil.” Yareli has seen a fair share of strange shenanigans.

“You don’t have a prrrroblem with this either? You think this is normal?” Mirjam could’ve bet on the opposite happening.

“It might not be normal, but it’s possible.” Yareli retorts.

“L-Like aliens?” Mirjam wonders.

“You, stop that.” Grace doesn’t like where this is going.

“You have this under control, Phil?” Yareli wants to know if she needs to worry.

“Yeah, you can keep checking the documents if you want.” You shrug. The important bit is letting everyone know that Ophelia is here.

“I want to mention, you might be starting to rival Kobashi in antics.” Yareli sighs as she grabs the papers again to read them. Office work at home always looks weird.

“If everyone thinks this is okay…” Mirjam accepts her new reality.

“What? You don’t trust Phil?” Grace acts shocked.

“I do! B-But t-that’s not what I mean!” Mirjam doesn’t want to be misinterpreted.

“Anyway, what are you going to do with her, Phil?” Grace tilts her head, genuinely curious.

What do you do?

>“Nothing, I’m just waiting for those two outside to come over.” You have no special plans.
>“Y’know, I’m worried what will happen if too much time passes and we have to find a way to feed her.” You’re going to be her caretaker until she gets to prison.

“Right now, I’m worried about what happened to Kobashi.” You have other priorities. He had a lighting in a bottle moment and then never came back.

“He called earlier while you were gone.” Yareli’s ears pick up upon hearing her police partner’s name. “If you recall, he was hung up on Ophelia’s code messages that Vanessa kept in her office, he felt the messages were connected to Vanessa and his collaborator Houda Lan. So, he went to the station to figure them out. As you now know, the messages weren’t connected to Houda Lan. In fact, we overlooked a simpler fact.”

“Which is?” You’re interested in hearing more.

“We all have a police partner. We put little importance on this fact since we patrol on our own more often than not. Officer Liam’s partner is the true addressee for most of Ophelia’s messages, a man called Aref Servello – in spite of Liam’s name being the one written down for. I don’t believe you met.” Yareli puts her hand on her forehead. “The other portion was misleading messages to bait responses from the force in case someone figures them out, and the last portion was to shift the blame to Vanessa. It was another failsafe to implicate the Lieutenant, they knew about her situation, so if the messages were found she’d be obliged to conceal this information.”

“You’re telling me Kobashi figured this out all on his own? He decoded the messages?!” Woah, you thought he was a good officer, but not this good!

“As I was told, he didn’t decode it, once he busted into Vanessa's office – officer Servello started acting off, Kobashi caught on to it, and one thing led to the other until their whole scheme fell apart.” Yareli doesn’t sound proud or interested, like always. “He’ll never eat one of Kobashi’s donuts now.”

“What is he up to now?” You’d assume he would be back if he got what he needed.

“There’s still one lead he needs to take care of, another one of Bruun’s collaborators is a teacher in Shiva, a man named Hamdaan Hubbard – and he’s going to take him to the station.” Yareli feels like everything is going great, too bad she doesn’t show it. “I informed him about your whereabouts, but he was confident you were going to get things done.”

“Huh, how does he feel about the whole thing with Houda?” You know he worked a lot to get him behind bars.

“He was royally enraged, furious beyond belief.” Yareli’s monotonous tone doesn’t sell it quite right… “He’ll be fine.”

“I-I hope so…” You don’t know how to feel about this.

“We were shocked to find out our teacher was involved in this!” Mirjam nods profusely.

“We were?” Grace knows all teachers are truly evil. Not even Nina or Chio are different.
>>
>>5095096

“Wait, so, it’s all good now? We won…?” You want to celebrate if that’s the case.

“I have to review the information.” Yareli is not going to celebrate yet. Aw.

“That’s basically a yes in my book!” Grace smiles.

“It’s not a yes.” Yareli won’t jump the gun.

“A good maybe then?” Mirjam tries to remain positive.

“A firm No for now.” Yareli won’t give them anything.

Aww…” Both girls look disappointed.

You know, you’re glad to know things are going well, but you feel the need to check on Houda Lan and van Zullekom, maybe that suspicious Lieutenant convinced the honest phantom thief to get out of town. You peek through the window and see the car where you left it, Zullekom is sitting on the co-pilot seat, and they’re having a pleasant talk, you see her smiling… How could you be so monstrous to doubt her? You’re truly the scum of the planet, almost no better than Scarlet.

Anyway, with your intrigue satiated, you sit down on one of the couches to finally relax.

“Do you have to always carry her around?” Grace wonders why you’re dragging Ophelia’s body everywhere.

“Huh… Huh… I guess not.” You don’t know how to respond to that, you put Ophelia by your side. “But I brought her here, so yeah.”

“Chill, Phil! I was, like, curious!” Grace just finds it funny.

“We can look after herrrr if you want!” Mirjam offers. “You should eat something instead. We’re way past lunchtime. There are some leftovers from what Officer Yareli prepared for us!”

“They’re waiting in the kitchen.” Yareli absentmindedly informs as she continues reading the files.

“All right!” You’ll check out how good Yareli’s hand is. You make your way to the kitchen and serve a plate.

You ingested Yareli’s food. It’s below average. How disappointing.

What’s not below average is the great time you’re passing with everyone while eating! A good meal is always better enjoyed in good company.

Will you be responsible for Ophelia’s body?

Sadly, these good times can’t go on until you have everything sorted out, and among the things you need to take care of, there’s a lot of story missing that you need to find out from Honda and van Zullekom. So, you’ll have to talk with these two. You tell the tomatoes about your intentions, they look disappointed since they want to hear it too. With that in mind, you’ll wait for them to enter the house instead of pursuing them.

You pass another relaxing moment with the girls, even if Yareli didn’t say much, but you know she had fun too somehow. Eventually, you hear the main door opening, 2 sets of feet making their way to the living room. Here they are, Lt. van Zullekom and Houda Lan! She’s introducing her old friend to everyone, and he gets greeted back. The Lieutenant explains how difficult it was to convince him to come over, but he’s fully aware of what’s going on (as far as she knows, anyway). Mirjam and Grace are really interested in knowing more about Houda, and are bombarding him with frivolous questions.

You take this moment to call the Camper, you wanna know if Matilda can come up with something to ask Houda specifically. There’s one problem. Matilda was not prepared in the slightest for Houda to be a thing, so you spent more time explaining what happened instead of getting some help. Now Matilda knows about everything that transpired since you left them at noon, but that’s about it – at least Wilma and Oliver will know that you’re okay!

“I want to be clear, all my dandelions, that if you happen to arrest me – Vanessa’s life will be all but gone. So don’t get any funny ideas.” Houda Lan’s light-hearted tone doesn’t match what his words imply.

“Are you implying it can happen by accident?” Yareli isn’t amused by a criminal’s presence. No wonder she dislikes Oliver. Wait, does she actually dislike the guy?

“With Vanessa around anything is possible for better or worse. Usually worse.” Houda chuckles.

“Vanessa, you should be thinking about changing professions if your life is potentially in danger with each important case.” Yareli lays it down.

“If everything about the case goes favorably, I’m planning on stepping down, I’m not sure who I’ll leave as my successor.” Lt. van Zullekom can’t decide between Kobashi and Yareli.

“Will you join me in my career of borrowing unscrupulously, dear Vanessa?” Houda Lan offers his dear friend a job.

No! I don’t want to have anything to do with your peccadillos!” Lt. van Zullekom hates the idea.

“For pity’s sake, I’m joking! With your luck, I’ll be locked for 26 years straight.” Honda gets taken by surprise by the visceral response.

“That’s oddly specific.” You raise an eyebrow. Grace and Mirjam agree.

“I like odd choices. No sense in getting predictable.” Houda has a motto you won’t follow. “Well, Phil, I heard you wanted to have a lil’ chat with us two, buddy.”

We want a chat.” Yareli includes herself unnecessarily like she’s Amelia or something. She brings her notepad out.

“Yeah! We want to be part of this too!” Grace adds herself to the conversation as well. She’s far more Graceful than Amelia at it.

“Yes! Please, we’re very currrrious!” Mirjam is part of the crowd too!

“I never get to meet my fans, so this is a lovely change of pace.” Houda likes the attention.

“No, we actually hate you!” Grace smiles.

“Yeah, you’re Officer Kobashi’s great nemesis after all!” Mirjam nods.

“But, like, we don’t hate hate you.” Grace points out.

“We’re just picking sides, so it’s like a little disdain.” Mirjam agrees.

“Oh blimey…” Houda Lan looks disappointed. “I’m someone’s great nemesis and I don’t even know the chap.”

Oh! It’s better if you begin with the questions, ciivy.” Lt. van Zullekom is giving you the go.

What do you want to ask?

>“Why are you stealing from all of these rich guys? Why obtain the Stones of power?” Ask about his objective.
>“So what’s up with the dog?” Take the dog out.
>“Can you tell me something about Maximum Power?” What’s the pillar guy’s name again…?
>“Did you actually steal what you wanted to steal?” You don’t think he got the gem, so better ask now.
>Write In.

She'll 'steal his glasses' in the process of undressing him. Yep, I've read this before.

“I actually do have a friend who’s a big fan of your work, could you sign an autograph or something?” You’ll get Crossbill something for helping out!

“My pleasure!” That raised Houda Lan’s spirit.

“Here! Some paper!” Like a perfect duo, van Zullekom brings what he needs, both Pen and Paper.

“To whom do I dedicate it?” Houda Lan is ready!

“To Crossbill!” You don’t think giving her real name away is a good idea.

“Oh, I heard about a lil’ bird with the same name making rounds! It would be dandy if it was the same person…” Houda writes what needs to be written down and hands it to you. You won’t comment on it, you don’t want to steal Crossbill’s thunder.

“For a second I thought he meant Cookie.” Mirjam says for some reason. “Should we get his signature too?”

“I mean, she just, like, ironically supports him! Just to get onto Officer Kobashi’s nerves.” Grace clears up.

“Why are you stealing from all these rich guys? Why obtain the Stones of Power?” You wanna know more about Houda Lan’s objective.

“We left that topic inconclusive, didn’t we?” Houda Lan leaves his goofiness aside, a talent you’re also known for.

“Uuh! This is gonna be good!” Grace is excited.

“Woah! So many exciting things are happening!” Mirjam feels blessed. Onto what kind of path have you led these tomatoes…?

“It’s like we are all involved in some grand conspiracy!” van Zullekom agrees with them both.

“…You’re actually involved in all of this.” You remind the policewoman.

Oh! I haven’t relaxed in so long, it wholly escaped my mind that all of this happened because of me!” Lt. van Zullekom is in shock!

“…” Yareli is too busy reading the documents to say anything to this goofy cop.

“What are the stones of power anyway?” Grace doesn’t have a clue about anything!

“I’ve never heard anyone call them that.” Houda points out.

“Perhaps I did…” Lt. van Zullekom doesn’t recall her own narration.

“D-Don’t worry, it’s a jokey term I came up with.” You don’t want anyone to take you seriously. “I mean, you’re stealing their treasures, right? Why?”

“I’ve been on the run for a good while, dandelions, I can hardly remember how much time has passed, but it’s been close to a decade if I had to guess – the day I met them...” Houda Lan gets in a storytelling mood…

Before becoming a Phantom Thief, Houda was an ordinary office worker, he wasn’t anything special, the best you could say about him is that he enjoyed performing at the circus as an acrobat when he was still in school — and he wasn’t proficient at it. So a boring man through and through.

It was during Houda Lan’s last vacation that he, unfortunately, got lost while hiking – in a stroke of bad luck, his map flew away thanks to the strong winds, and his bag was torn apart. It was a matter of time before he couldn’t continue, his supplies were scarce and he was freezing. He knew he was giving his last steps.

But all of a sudden, a portal to another world opened in front of him, a burly Viking-looking horned man showed up – his name was Kirm Cherkano, and he was accompanied by 2 other similar looking men. The big man said he didn’t have much time, he needed Houda Lan’s pansy ass to listen to what he had to say. More terrified than attentive, Houda listened to the big man’s words. “The game is rigged, son. I’m tellin’ ya, those dirty demons, tricksters and connivin’ scum the lot of ‘em!” He recalls him saying, “They’re taking away the pieces of the Almighty’s crown before we start!”

In a few words, Kirm told Houda about the upcoming flame war. The problem was that the powerful demon Ohrmazd (Philonune tells you that that’s another of the Creator’s names) found a loophole on the no intervention with the human world 50-years prior to the war, and used his followers in this world to find the pieces of the crown beforehand for an easy victory – and with that, the Creator will rule both worlds.

And that’s where Houda Lan comes in, Kirm pleaded to him to find the stolen pieces and to hide them somewhere else – so the game can start as planned. So they struck a deal, if Kirm saved Houda Lan’s life from death, he’ll do what he wants…

“…And he saved me. I still don’t know how, but when I woke up – I was in a cabin safe from all danger. I got a mean cold from that, but that doesn’t matter anymore, does it?” Houda Lan chuckles. “A man’s word is his life…, his words still haunt me.”

“…” The tomatoes look scared. Lt. van Zullekom doesn’t like what she’s hearing either. You didn’t expect Kirm to be involved in this, neither did Philonune, but he took it with grace… You? You still remember his words… The weight of millions of souls rests on your fist.

“And you believe these rich folks are Ohrmazd’s followers?” You wonder how Houda found out.

“They didn’t throw me out totally clueless, they were nice enough to give me a couple of hints to work with. The Lloydington family is the one I’m sure they were firmly involved with, I got one of the pieces from them, I just need to find the last two.” Houda Lan smiles.

“T-The last two?” You didn’t think he’d have half of theml! He’s better than everyone you know at this!

“Gets one excited, doesn’t it?” Houda smiles. “The Lloydingtons handed over the other 3 pieces to individuals they trusted decades ago and hid their own piece inside some valuable antique to pass them down as a family treasure. They urged their collaborators to do the same, so here I am, checking them one by one!”

“…But why are you here?” Grace doesn’t get it. There’s nobody rich in town!

“After my first two moves, the last 2 families decided to find other strategies to safeguard their pieces. The Prices trusted a close family friend to safeguard it, a person who seemingly lost connection to for a long time… that person’s name is Ophelia Bruun. And that’s why I’m here!” Houda sounds really proud about finding this connection. By the looks of it, the brunt of the work came from van Zullekom.

Hold on, did he say The Price Family…?! Wait, it’s all connected to that creepy Senator?! What the hell did Wilma get herself into!?

Sadly this is all we have for this week’s thread! Thank you for playing, see you next time and Merry Christmas!
