== QUEST MECHANICS PIC ==

Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Gnoll%20Quest
Twitter (for announcements): https://twitter.com/gnollqm

Welcome to Gnoll Quest #8. This thread is aimed to be more freeroam than the previous ones. If you played Lioncat Quest, it should be something similar to that. There may be some adjustments to mechanics in the course of this thread, but hopefully things go well enough that it’s not needed.

By the way, some of you probably read at the QTG and Twitter that I’d try turning this quest into comic strips. Well, that was a bad idea in retrospect. The update time would go up exponentially, not really worth it, so I'm gonna have to stick to the traditional format. Sorry in case any of you were interested in seeing that style.

RECAP OF PREVIOUS THREAD

Surrounded by yummy prey servants, you take what may be the hardest bath of your life. Well, it's the first one anyway, but it's still pretty damn difficult as you can barely contain yourself from turning the workers into your snacks.

Surprisingly, you end up resisting your urges and even engage in conversation with them, who give you useful information about each Council member. All in all, they’re nice ladies, if a bit too friendly and trusting for their own good. You also ask one of them – an excitable goat woman – to clean up the mess in your room, just in case Farren brings that up during the meeting with the Council.

After you’re finished with the bath, you leave and pick Datz on the way, who also had lots of trouble keeping herself from attacking the servants at the women’s bathhouse. Clean and ready, Arthur escorts the two of you to the meeting with the Council, which is about to start.

In the meanwhile, Hawkodesh explains that the prideful dwarves are going to do everything in their hands to avoid acknowledging you as the Champion out of spite for gnolls. Even though High Priest Aaron knows you’re the chosen of Anu, he doesn’t have the dwarven balls to stand up for his faith and declare you the saviour in front of everyone.

The meeting is a total disaster, as expected. The Cpuncil accuses Datz and you of being demon spies, and not even showing them your wings convinces them otherwise. If that isn’t bad enough, Farren tries to get his dirty hands on Datz by trying to assign her to work in the mines, essentially separating the two of you.

In the end, thanks to your insistence and Aaron’s mild support, the Council decides to let Daitza remain by your side and give you a chance to prove yourself. In no more than two days, you are to venture into the demon-infested catacombs located on the last floor of the fortress, destroy the source of taint and retrieve the Lunar Armor - a holy dwarven artifact that was stolen by demons during a siege. If you are unable to do this mission in the given deadline, you and your pal will be boiled to death.

Datz and you return to your room, which has been cleaned by the goat servant Daisy. Both of you rest a little bit to clear your minds from all stress, but also try to come up with a plan for today…

HOUR: 12:50

Daitza and you spend the next few minutes coming up with a plan for today. The optimism from a while ago has turned into concern regarding the short deadline you must meet… but you know there’s no point on lamenting over it. It’s best to set your mind on what you CAN do with the time you were given.

And so, with your eyes closed and your head resting on Datz’ lap, together you discuss everything you can do in the fortress. “Hmm… let’s see. We can go to that so-called church and ask the priests to teach us a thing or two about using Anu’s powers, OR we can go to the barracks, get into a fighting match and show the humielets how strong Bloodseekers are...”

“I like the sound of that!” Daitza exclaims with a naughty smile. “Maybe the humielets will stop messing with us if we assert dominance over them. They better do, for their own sake!”

You take a look at the scratches all over her face and arms, which remind you of your own injuries – and the mild pain that comes with them. “Oh man, we need to do something about our wounds. Training like this won’t do us any good…”

“Hm. Yeah...” Daitza looks down with a frown, clearly thinking about something. A few seconds after, her eyes swiftly open up and meet yours. “Hey, what if that alchemist dude Arthur mentioned has a concoction that lets us heal faster? From the way he described him, he seems to be an herbalist like Rakuta…”

You nod. “Doesn’t hurt to ask. Let’s just hope the dwarf is willing to share his stuff. If not, then maybe the ones working at that ‘hospital’ place can help us out.”

“Don’t go to the hospital” Hawkodesh suddenly says. “Your recovery would be slow. Very impractical given the urgency of the situation. The priests can teach you a new healing power, one that is different from Body Restoration, but effective nonetheless.”

“Wha- really?! Well, why didn’t you say that sooner!”

“Huh? Say what?” Datz looks confused.

“Not you, silly…” You smile. “My angel buddy says the priests of Anu can teach me a power to heal ourselves. Heading to the church seems like a great idea now, don’t ya think?”

“Umm, sure! Whatever works best.” Your pal shrugs contently. “Frankly, I’d love to see you cast a cool spell like the shaman does.”

“Arthur told us we should order a suit of armor with the 'blacksmith' or however that humielet is called" you say, trying to recall where to find him. "Remember the way to his place, Datz?”

She returns a weak nod. “Yup, like the palm of my hands, but… armor? Really?”

“Hm? What about it?”

“It’s, err… nothing. Nevermind.” Your pal shakes her head, smiling. “So, um, asides from training and finding a way to heal ourselves, what else should we do? I feel like we’re forgetting something…”

You feel exactly the same way. Daitza goes quiet and ponders for a while, so you do the same. A minute passes by…

“Luna!”

… And the two of you arrive to the same conclusion, at the same time.

“That little critter told us she wants to meet us at the abandoned mines” Daitza says, recalling the encounter with that funny wolf-bunny creature called Bark. “We should pay her a visit as soon as we can, Hyeny. I’m super curious about forest spirits...“ She sighs. “Well, I think those are all our options, right? Geesh, that’s a LOT of stuff to do...”

The picture of Mom’s winged figure and the last words she told you in your dream suddenly come to mind. You haven’t forgotten about her, not for a single second.

“There’s one more thing I want to do, but… I’m not sure if we have the time for it.”

“Hmm? What is it?” Whatever Daitza sees on your face, it warrants a very curious look from her. She’s giving you all of her attention.

“Right after we were rescued by the dwarves, my mother visited me in a dream and said she had something to tell me. That’s when I woke up. I’d love to pray and speak with her again, but last time I did, I fell asleep for waaay too long... and I cannot let that happen a second time. Especially not now.” You go silent, unsure of what to do. Deep inside, you crave to see her again, but…

“Hyeny…” Daitza gently strokes your cheek, giving you a warm smile. “I know your mother is super important to you. You never got over her disappearance, so… it’s okay if you wanna talk to her now that you can. This is your call. Follow your heart.”

“Ahem!” Your yellow wingman clears his throat, preparing to barge in on the conversation. “Excuse me for interrupting again, but… Hyenus, all the angels are aware of how little time you were given for your mission. The course of time is a difficult thing to control, but I assure you that Mirabelle won’t keep you asleep for too long, in case you do decide to speak with her.”

That’s reassuring to hear. You’re glad Hawkodesh told you this. Now, with all things considered, it’s time to make a decision. There are many ways to start your quest in this fortress, and every second counts, so…

… What do you do now?

You think it over for a minute or two, and soon come to a decision. As much as you want to talk to Mom, it's wiser to leave your conversation with her for another time - maybe when you're about go to bed. For now, you have places to go, dwarves to meet and, above all, much, MUCH training to do.

Determined, you stand up and smile at Daitza. "Don't worry. I'll speak with my mother tonight. She understands we have very little time to spare."

"Umm... you sure? I mean, it's totally fine if you want to-" Without letting Datz finish, you lift her off the bed and, once more, carry her on your arms. She's surprised by the suddenness of your movements. "Woah! U-um, okay. I see you made up your mind, haha..." A smile grows on her face.

You walk up to your room's door, kick it open and find yourself again on the fortress' corridors. Now that you are free to do as you wish around these parts, it's time to conquer this damn place. First destination: the church! You bet those humielet priests can teach you many cool magics, including that healing power Hawkodesh mentioned...

Update comes out in a few hours. Was supposed to be sooner but something came up.

>>5128175
Abdol Stonebender has been criticized for his excentric architectural design choices, which range from good to outright impractical. The bathrooms in the 1st floor, however, have served an unintentional purpose during demon sieges by allowing dwarves to pour acid and boiling water down the pipes onto demons. Some brave ones still use the toilets as originally intended

>>5128962
Everytime the demon portal opens during a siege, an earthquake shakes the fortress. Dwarves must fill the wall cracks with mortar, replace the bricks and do other reparations on a daily basis if they don't want the whole place to crumble into dust. Those cracks you saw will surely be repaired soon.

>>5128962
I'll try to avoid those oversights (especially regarding the clothes, damn those things) but expect a lot of QUALITY in the pics during this training arc. I'll be aiming for faster updates and tegaki is just so convenient for it. There will be better pics in certain situations though.

As you find your way to the church with the help of Datz' directions, you suddenly remember that your top half is naked! Damn it, why did you leave your room without dressing up properly first?! Granted, the air of the fortress is so unpleasantly hot that you'd love to go around with your bare chest exposed, but you cannot risk committing another infractio-

Wait a moment. Something is off here. You... you are not actually topless! When did you put this new attire on? You don't remember doing it in your quarters. This is so strange...

... Oh, right. Now you recall everything. While you were busy deciding whether to pray to Mom or leave it for later, you stood up from bed, grabbed a bunch of clothes from that big wooden box thingy, then laid down and rested your head on Datz' lap again. Yeah, that's what you did. Everything makes sense now...

Man, you know you can be absentminded, but this is way too much. It's weird how your body acts on its own sometimes without you realizing until much later. No wonder Dad and the others call you a sleepwalker - more than often you wake up next to another Bloodseeker, which has earned you plenty of beatings. The worst one was from two years ago when you woke up between Willow AND Rurk, right in the middle of their bed. You'll never forget how badly they kicked your ass that day. It's been months since the last time you walked while asleep, and you hope it stays that way.

Now, what were you doing?... Ah, yeah. Onwards to the church!

A few minutes later of walking and doing your best to ignore the delicious servants passing by, as well as dwarves throwing you weird stares, Datz and you finally arrive to the church. You only gave it a quick glimpse from the entrance when Arthur showed you the way around the fortress, but now that you are calmer, you feel like paying more attention to your surroundings...

This 'church' place is unlike any other you've ever been to. It's quite different from the rest of the fortress, too. The room is almost as wide and tall as the Dining Hall, and there are many huge, colorful paintings hanging on the walls depicting people. Most of them look like dwarves, others not so much.

An immense painting of a dwarven Anu touching a naked humielet's hand covers up the entirety of the roof. It's the same one you saw at the Dining Hall. The sheer size of the thing and the effort that must have gone into it instills a sense of admiration in you, even if you find the work itself pretty lame. A ugly masterpiece is how you'd call it.

There are a dozen rows of seatings, all harmoniously lined up and pointing to a single direction. While most of them are unoccupied, some dwarves who were sitting and praying are disturbed by your arrival and give you a harsh glare, though a few others remain with their heads lowered, their deep meditation unbroken.

Several robed dwarves are here, too. You figure they must be priests of Anu. Aside from the oldest looking one greeting you with what's obviously a scowl, none of them seem to mind your presence. However, the seven priests standing in formation at the end of the room, behind a small central altar, don't seem to notice you at all. They appear to be completely focused on casting a holy spell with their powers combined, which illuminates the roof with a yellow light. It's an impressive sight.

"Hyeny..." Daitza whispers.

"Yes?..."

"We're definitely not in the tribe anymore..."

"... Yeah. We aren't." This place is so uniquely looking that you can't help but feel lost and far away from home. However, as scary as this whole experience is, it's still interesting... VERY interesting. A curious scout like your pal must feel the same way.

You're glad to experience these new wonders together. You're probably not going to see the forest anytime soon, but with Datz by your side, at least you will always carry a reminder of home with you, no matter where you go, no matter how crazy things get.

Well... that's enough contemplation for now. Back to business. You're here to learn new spells, and one of these priests should be able to help you out.

The gray-haired priest seems awfully familiar, though you can't quite put your finger on it. Most dwarves look ridiculously alike. Anyway, since he already caught your attention, you see no reason not to approach and talk to him.

"Hyeny, let me down for a minute" Datz asks. "My legs are getting sore..."

"Oh, okay." You do as she asks and gently put her down. She lightly flexes her knees, smiling and releasing a sigh of relief. "Aaah, much better!"

"Let's talk to that guy over there." You point at the priest, who stares at you, as if expecting you to come over. Daitza looks at him and nods. The two of you go up the stairs...

"HEY!!!" Suddenly, a raspy sounding voice reaches you, immediately making your movements come to a halt. Somehow, you've annoyed one of the priests - a very old, frail looking one, whose long hair and beard are completely white. The man approaches stomping his feet and with a none too friendly look on his wrinkled face. Just what you needed...

Everyone in the church turns their eyes to the scene, except for the seven priests casting the spell - who don't even flinch at the old man's scream. "Ahem!" The angry dwarf clears his throat, blocking your path. "What in heaven's sake do you think you're doing?!"

"Uhmm... we just want to talk to that priest over the-"

"UHMM?!" he yells, looking even more annoyed. "What kind of irreverent 'Champion' dares to imprudently step in the priests' zone and fail to properly address a member of the clergy?! You ought to call me your Eminence and kiss my hand! Here, kiss it!" He extends his right arm and shows you his hand. Man, you don't want your mouth to graze this ugly humielet's skin... is this really, REALLY necessary?

"What are you waiting for?! Kiss it!"

Before Datz and you can react to the gesture, the gray-haired priest approaches with a tired expression. He holds a bottle containing a purple liquid inside, which he takes a sip of with great glee every few seconds or so. The strange cleric talks to his peer with a deep, bored tone that matches his face perfectly. "C'mon, Glorissor. Ye can't ask much from gnolls, let alone gnoll *outsiders* like these. It's a deadly combination."

"Yes, but... but still!" The old dwarf insists. "Murdock, if this gnoll is truly the saviour sent to us by Lord Anu, it is to be expected that he knows to be a proper Anustian! How- HOW can he forget such basic rules that common sense dictates?!"

"Well, clearly he doesn't have a clue about those things..." The drinking priest shrugs. "I mean, whatcha gonna do 'bout it? Complain to the Lord that He didn't send a 'proper' saviour or somethin'?

"What?..." Despite the casual tone of the other dwarf, his words seem to hit Glorissor hard. He lowers his gaze, his anger appearing to subside. "No, no, of course not... but there are *standards* he must meet, regardless."

The humielet called Murdock sips on his drink and sighs. "Listen, pal. Our guests here will learn to be courteous, sooner or later. Lemme' talk to them and see what they want."

Glorissor stares at Datz and you, remaining silent. Soon, he sighs. "Very well... I shall forgive this. Ignorance is no sin, though it IS annoying." He walks away from you, but glances over at the dwarf and his bottle one more time. "Murdock, you have been drinking all day. Are you sure it is not time to stop?"

"Relax. I know what I'm doi-" A loud burp escapes his mouth. The old dwarf rolls his eyes and goes away, this time for real. The rest of the church settles down and go back to their praying business.

Murdock lowers his bottle. He stares at Datz, then you, then Datz again, and finally back at you. "We're all doomed."

"What?"

"Nothing, nothing..." He sighs. "Well, so here you are. Pleased to meet ya', gnolls." Something about his expression tells you he's being sarcastic.

"I'm impressed that so many of you dwarves know Gnollish!" Daitza remarks with a surprised look. She's right - all the priests you've talked to so far, including this one, have addressed you in your native language, and they all speak it very fluently..

Murdock shrugs. "When you've got four hundred years to live, there's plenty of time to spare. Why not use it learnin' a language or two, especially one as simple as yours. Tribals don't have an ample vocabulary, so to say." He sighs. "So, I'm guessin' you didn't come here for friendly chat. You want something. I doubt you'd be wastin' your time when you only have two days before the Council makes gazpacho out of ye."

"How... do you know that?"

"News travels fast, kids. Those Council dudes sure applied an iron fist with ye..." He shakes his head, frowning. "... Buncha' jackasses, all of 'em. Those idiots don't have their priorities set straight. If they kill ye, the world is doomed. Simple as. That twerp of Aaron knows it better than anyone, so it surprises me he decided to submit to their will. The idiot doesn't deserve to be a High Priest."

"Wait, so... you KNOW I'm the Champion?"

The dwarf stares at you intensely for a moment before speaking. "Kid, I don't know how a gnoll like ye came to be His hand of justice. Nobody other than the Council knows yer story. I was told you're going to speak in front of the fortress during dinner time. Maybe things will be cleared out then, maybe not. All I know is this..." He steps forward and taps your belly with a finger, making you flinch. "You have an angel within you. Anu's got your back. That's somethin' I'm one-hundred percent sure of. Now, as to why the hell would He pick a gnoll as the saviour... that's beyond me."

He steps back, smacking his lips. A tired sigh escapes his mouth. "Look, I'm tired of questionin' everything. Sometimes, things are just the way they are. God's will is perfect, and His will is that you be the saviour. I don't need more than that."

"I'm... I'm glad you're on our side."

"Yes, it's... it's good to hear you support Hyeny."

"Bah!" Murdock scowls at your words of grattiude. "Cut it off and speak up already. Why are you here? I don't think you wanna learn the intrincacies of dwarven l o r e. Nah, you look the practical type..." He mutters a forced smile. "Shoot, or I'll go back to drinkin' my purple nectar."

>“I’m heading to my quarters” Aaron says. “If you are interested in learning to use your… probably holy powers more effectively, you may head to the Church and ask the priests there to teach you.” He turns around and walks away, speaking as he leaves. “You have no time to waste. How you choose to spend these forty-eight hours will help us determine if you truly are the Champion we’ve waiting for.”
If it helps us in any ways, Maybe we should bring up the fact that Aaron actually suggested we come here to learn magic.

2 days is potentially enough. The big footnotes we need to deal with is Brusca, Arthur, and the alchemist.

Brusca, I hope after helping out her brother, will become more amiable towards us and let us eat food that are a quality greater than food scraps (better food buffs). Else we'll have to settle with Bob.
Authur, if we can find him before the dinner event starts, we should be able to train.
The alchemist, if we can convince him to make potions for Daitzsa and Hyenus, will probably be more potent than any potion that Hyenus could make, meaning stronger potions which mill make Hyenus level up faster.

The alchemist will probably need a few speech checks. He can be bribed with ingredients and herbs we (Bark) collected from the cave. We could try appealing to his sense of empathy towards other dwarves by saying the majority of the potions we bring in could be used to heal all the injured dwarves, while all we ask is a few potions to help us train. We could also see if any of the priests can put in a good word in for us.
And, there's also asking the servants at the servants quarters how to butter up the alchemist i.e. lower DC to convince him to make potions for us.

Use etiquette because this guy is nicer.
>"Nice to formally meet you your Eminence." (earn those brownie points)

Ask if there's an empty room we can change into to see if we can wear our vest on backwards so we can sprout our wings. I'm pretty sure the wings come of the middle of the back. We can check real quick after we learn some spells.

QM I don't think you gave us EXP for passing the DC 80 thing with Softgrip when they wanted to separate us from Daitzsa.

>QM I don't think you gave us EXP for passing the DC 80 thing with Softgrip
You only get EXP to level up by fighting, training and passing physical checks as described here >>5128031. Wouldn't make much sense if your muscles got bigger by talking your way out of trouble, eh? In case you really wanted a form of progression by passing speech checks, then I can safely say passing two or three more will give you a perk that makes convincing dwarves slightly easier.

>>5130901
They would find it funny in a good way and soon grow to like it, but sadly you cannot grow a beard. You can, however, grow a temporal mane by smoking ekrole. Dwarves would also find it amusing.

Posting the update in a moment. Took me a while to write (it adds new mechanics) so it's going to be only one for today. I'll also take a day off tomorrow Sunday, so we are basically continuing this Monday, hopefully at a regular pace of 2 updates a day minimum.

This guy's voice... you're absolutely certain you heard it before. "Murdock, are you the man who saved us at the cave?"

"Yup." He sips on his drink. "I didn't do it alone, tho'. Had help from the boys."

You knew it! This is the dwarf who told his companions to 'grab those fucking dogs and get out', words that referred to you and Datz. Rather blunt for a priest, but you can't complain. After all, he DID save your lives...

"Thanks for rescuing us, man" you say with a smile. Daitza nods and also thanks him. "I barely remember anything, but if you saved us, you have my gratitude."

Murdock stares at the two of you quietly, a corner of his mouth curling up. Suddenly, he snorts. "Heh. Two gnolls thankin' a dwarf, now that's somethin' you don't see every day..." He shrugs. "Just did what had to be done. No need to thank me."

"We owe you one. So, anyway... Aaron suggested we come here to learn magic. Can you help us with that?"

The cleric remains silent for a moment before answering. "No."

"Errr, why no-"

"Just kidding." He grins, exposing his yellow teeth. "Sure, I *can* teach you... but it ain't gonna be easy."

"What do you mean?"

"Listen. You can't 'learn' magic in a single session. Harnessing Anu's powers into spells ye can cast over and over again takes years of study and meditation. Hell, most priests take a whole *decade* to master a single miracle..." He goes quiet for a second, "What I'm sayin' is, you better spend these days trainin' your body, not delving into a discipline that takes so long to put into practice."

"Hyeny's case is different" Daitza says, placing a hand on your shoulder. The confused priest raises an eyebrow. "Hm?... Why?"

You clarify further. "The thing is, I can learn stuff at a much faster rate than most. It's one of the reasons Anu made me His champion."

"Oh..." A look of realization appears on the dwarf's mug. "I see. Hm, that's... odd." He shrugs and sighs. "Still, we're talking about learnin' a spell in less than TWO days, kid. That just ain't possible... I think."

"We won't know until I try, right?"

"Ye should be using your time wisely, tribal. Nobody can learn spells in such a short time. It's impossible, it's..." He goes silent, closing his eyes. Eventually, he opens them and meets your gaze again, giving you a lazy smile. "Aw, hell. Let's give it a try. It's not like I've got anythin' better to do." He looks at the painting on the roof. "... Besides, nothing is impossible to Lord Anu. Nothing."

"Awesome! Can we start right now?!"

"Uh-huh." You're not sure if it's your imagination, but the priest's eyes seem livelier than before. "I'll give ya a quick rundown of the fundamentals first, just so ye know what you're meddling with. After we're done with the 'boring' part, I'll show ya some basic spells, and you pick the one ye wanna focus on learning. Sounds good?"

"Hell yeah!"

"This is gonna be good!" says an excited Daitza.

Hawkodesh encourages you. "This is the beginning of something great, Hyenus."

LIST OF SPELLS:

== TIER 1 == (Apprentice, 10 Focus):

1) Lunarskin: A magical layer surrounds a creature of your choice within the vicinity, protecting it from physical attacks. This spell can also be casted on yourself. The layer lasts until it sustains too much damage or its duration runs out. (Base Cost: 20 MP / hour. The layer has an amount of HP equal to this spell's Base Cost)

2) Healing Palms: By laying your hands on a living creature's body, you can heal its wounds, severe or otherwise. This spell can also be casted on yourself. (Base Cost: 25 MP. The amount of HP recovered is equal to the Base Cost)

3) Fists of Justice: Surrounds your hands in Anu's burning light, greatly strengthening the power of your unarmed attacks. (Base Cost: 6 MP per punch. Adds to your Strength value an amount equal to this spell's Base Cost. Only counts when fighting with your bare hands)

4) Telekinesis: Creates a temporal link between you and a physical object or another creature of your choice, allowing you to move it with the power of your mind. This spell is limited by how strong you are. (Base Cost: 2 MP / second)

== You have no access to TIER 2 spells == (Requires 20 Focus)

____________________

SPELL MECHANICS:

- Once you learn your first spell, you'll gain an MP bar (Mana) equal to 50% of your HP (Health). If you run out of MP, you cannot cast spells. Generally, you recover MP by resting or drinking potions, but there are less orthodox methods you might find out about later.

- Spells have a minimum requirement of Focus to be learned. Your Focus skill can be increased by passing mental and willpower checks, as well as meditating in the church.

- Learning a spell takes anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes. Afterwards, it will be added to your list of spells in the Status picture.

- Spells have a Base Cost that is lowered by 1% for each point in Focus. For example, 'Heal' has a Base Cost of 25 MP, but if your Focus level is 30, this value would be reduced by 30%, thus lowering the Effective Cost to 17 MP. However, the spell would still heal for an amount of HP equal to the Base Cost, which is 25.

- You can increase a spell's power by spending more MP casting it than the required minimum. For example, if you want to cast a Heal spell that is twice as powerful, you need to spend twice the MP. You cannot put something like 25%, 38% or 63,922% extra MP into a spell - only whole values of 100%, 200%, 300%, and so on. In the case of spells that have a duration (such as Lunarskin), the same rules apply: by spending more MP, you can increase its duration.

- Other trainers can teach you even more powerful spells of Anu.

Just to clear things up, there are two types of EXP: Level EXP, and Skill EXP.
Most Focus checks (mental challenges like not eating servants) will grant Skill EXP to Focus if you succeed, but not Level EXP.
Level EXP can be increased by succeeding at physical checks, fighting and training.

You can grow a permanent mane (like Rakuta's, the herbalist of your tribe) by smoking lots of ekrole joints in a row.

My spell review:
Lunarskin isn’t too energy expensive to maintain, but it still requires mana to do so, and provides a famelic amount of protection.
Healing palms is way better than Lunarskin since it actually removes damage debuffs and doesn’t constantly sap energy. The short range may be kinda problematic though.
Fists of Justice would be kinda good if we dumped a 10X mana multiplier, but we could miss, and I really think sharp edges can do better.
Telekinesis would be pretty good if we could also use our hands while the spell is active, and if we could dump more mana to lift really heavy stuff. Otherwise it would just be a gimmick.

>Is there a spell like Healing Palm, except if you're low or out of MP you can use your own HP to heal someone, or have a third party donor donate their HP to heal someone?
Gift of Life, Tier 2. You donate your own HP to another creature. Murdock doesn't know this spell, but another priest might be able to teach you. Unlike Murdock, it won't be so easy to convince them to help you.
All of Anu's spells dwarves know about are kept in big tomes in the Church. Priests don't learn all of them. Most of them dedicate themselves to learning about 7-9 spells during their lifetime.
Learning from priests is much faster than picking up a spell tome. Hyenus is not the reading type, regardless of his physical and spiritual potential. It would take him days of study time to learn a single spell.

>>5131338
>Will buffs from foods, potions, powers, and spells stack? I want to stack STR and AGI.
Yes, they can stack

>If the Internal Clock power let's us accurately tell time, do we get a bonus to potion making since we can precisely tell when a potion is done cooking?
No bonus. The power lets you tell time as accurately as if you were on the surface, but you're still susceptible to distractions and losing track of when you started doing something and for how long, which is what basically happened to you while cooking the Regeneration potion.

> Healing Palms
This is the best choice at the moment, simply because it can massively speed up our and Daitzsa's recovery before the fight. Remember that natural healing is faster when we have more HP. We also might get some free healing if the dwarf decides to teach by example.
The extra HP of Lunarskin isn't as useful because obtaining it doesn't give us better rolls and improved regen.
Fists of Justice might pair nicely with Feral Speed but we should try to obtain weapons.
Telekinesis could potentially allow us to grab the lunar armor safely, however I feel that there's probably a catch. Feel free to convince me to change my vote to telekinesis
>>
>>5131156
>Healing palms, lunar skin, and fists of justice
It'll most likely take around 4-5 hours especially if we need a break, but getting all of those at once to practice with for the next two days is worth it. We can take a break for food if needed, but should mostly focus on this first.
Also while we train we should see if one of the other priests will teach Datz about Anu or give her anything else useful.
>>
>>5131156
Fists of Justice should be a priority. If we're going to be fighting real demons, we need to ramp up our offensive capabilities. If any of them have some kind of spiritual or esoteric protection, or a nonphysical form that can't be effectively harmed by physical weaponry, then FoJ as a "magical" form of attack might be our best shot at actually being able to inflict damage against the forces of darkness. We also wouldn't need to worry about training to use our fists/claws competently; we have no real familiarity with any weapons besides the spear, after all.

If we're getting Telekinesis as an option, I have a feeling there's going to be some kind of puzzle bullshit later where it's going to be useful. Like floating Daitsza across a gap or whatever to lower a drawbridge.

Would the Focus attribute add a positive bonus to making potions?

>- Spells have a Base Cost that is lowered by 1% for each point in Focus. For example, 'Heal' has a Base Cost of 25 MP, but if your Focus level is 30, this value would be reduced by 30%, thus lowering the Effective Cost to 17 MP.
So we rounding down for base cost reduction?

>our Focus skill can be increased by passing mental and willpower checks, as well as meditating in the church.
Just how long would we need to meditate? I remembered that we leveled up our Focus quite fast at the bathhouse from 6 to 10 or something. Between meditating to increase our Focus, or being tied up while a dogbold and kobold slather each other in delicious gravy, the latter is a more tempting idea to level up Focus.

Our HP is 194, which means our MP should be 97. That means we would have four uses of Healing Palms: two for Hyenus (157/194), and two for Daitza (115/145) because Healing Palms ((25MP-10%)rounddown) is 22, which leaves us with 17 MP left.
Thaaaaat means we'd get +12 Focus EXP? Is that enough to level up Focus?

>>5131541
Should we though? Should we really go for that spell right now? It only adds +6 strength to our fists per punch. I mean I sound like I'm underplaying the value of the spell and I don't doubt it is valuable, but Hyenus is Wounded (-5 to combat rolls, -10% STR and AGI), while Daitza is Severely Wounded (-10 combat rolls, -20% STR and AGI). We need to put them both above 74% with Healing Palms before considering going to the abandoned mines to meet with Luna.

You guys are being too narrow minded with telekinesis.
If it uses the Acceleration=Force/Mass formula, then we would be able to propel very small pebbles at armor piercing speeds. And instead of bringing back a spear, we could use it to stab people a few meters away from any angle, since we don’t actually have to grab it.
>>
Question for QM:
Does telekinesis work for non-discrete objects, like pulling a certain volume of water from a lake?

Ah shit I forgot how to Psychics class, maaaaan. Something about air resistance for small things making them slow down or veer off course, and needing to add a spin for accuracy. Instead of pebbles, we could use Telekinesis with arrows or balanced spikes. If we're too cheap for that we can cave rocks into rough pointy cone shapes.

Nah, way too keavy to propel at decent speeds.

I'm throwing this out there and guessing the purple stuff is a combination of an MP potion and booze, or just straight up booze.

>>5131886
but they don't go as far as arrows do they? else we would be using slingshots to kill things. Brain no work right now, but marbles aren't so good against penetrating through armor. Well, actually technically it can if we can telekinetically throw it hard enough that the marble says fuck you to the armor and fragments through it, but if we had something like a solid metal spike that won't shatter, I think it would deal more damage against armored foes.

Actually now that you mention it, this is a neat line of questioning. Marbles we could use against demons as improvised hollow point munitions since they're bound to shatter and spread if they hit bone. They'll deal a shit ton of damage to unarmored foes, but should only be used against those that we don't plan on eating. There's also the issue of expending MP, which is a delicately finite resource that takes time to recover, or bullshit through MP potions. Telekinesis might be better put towards puzzle solving, environmental control (triggering traps so they affect enemies, throwing a lit lantern to light foes on fire, undo someone's belt so they trip and fall), and the like instead of ranged attacks. Cuz we could achieve the same results with a bow or sling.

No wait fucking what if you can throw something at full force in less than a second. Fuck about and circumvent the 2MP / second costs.
>>
>>5131904
>else we would be using slingshots to kill things
We did until the invention of gunpowder. See slings, they have up to 500m range and can kill big game.
Small bullets lose speed fast because they have low amounts of mass ( determined by the square cube law) to area. To counteract this you can use denser materials (like lead) or make the bullet bigger. Since Hyenus isn’t infinitely strong we would be better off using a bullet with small mass but smaller area (like lead shot or marbles)
Friction should be a non-issue unless we tried to snipe a demon from 1km away anyways.
>>
>>5131921
Alright. Lets get some slings, slingshots, lead shots, and marbles. Assuming Hyenus has an IC reason to know about them or get them. Fingers crossed we'll get the opportunity for them eh?
>>
>>5131928
Slingshots are the big gay though, they are like the unholy matrimony between the sling and bow that has none of the advantages.
>>
>>5131932
It's gotta be a sling, slingshot, or bow if the QM doesn't allow rapid TK throwing action on full power per throw. What's it gonna be king?
>>
>>5131904
>>5131943
I guess we should use a sling since we would be firing bullets.
I did the math, considering that Hyenus’es strength refers to his arm strength, and we used a 100g bullet. since daitza weighs 84kg that means he can lift at least 42kg per arm, which is equivalent 420N. That divided by the object’s mass gives us an acceleration of 4200m/s squared. If it refers to the strength of his entire body he should probably be capable of deadlifting about 150kg which gives us 1500N, That divided by the bullet’s mass (0.1kg), the final acceleration would be of 15000m/s squared.
On the low end, if the enemy is at 10m, we would manage to accelerate the bullet to 289m/s in ~0,068 seconds which is an acceptable speed for a blackpowder weapon.
On the high end, if we assume the same target at 10 meters, we could accelerate the projectile at 547m/s in 0,036 seconds, which would be a speed inbetween that of a modern pistol and rifle.
Of course now, i’m ignoring aerodinamics because fuck them and it shouldn’t skew the calculations too much.
>>
>>5131960
A 100g lead ball would be 2,5cm wide btw.
>>
>>5131855
You're right that FoJ isn't the most useful option for us prior to the mines -- it's the least useful of them, really -- but I think there will be an essential use case for it once we do find ourselves there. I don't trust the anonmind to go back for it later, so I'm putting forward the case and vote for it now.
>>
>>5131201
I can see the use for Lunar Skin. When we have a higher Focus rating to make spells cheaper, using Lunarskin would be useful for a safety net of excess HP, but it's less economic long term, plus wounded status.

>>5132497
I'm pretty sure FoJ is the one spell we need to perma kill demons, so it is essential for the Catacombs. Just not now. It wont be as helpful to us if we're still dealing with the penalties from our injuries, plus we'll be grabbing more mundane weapons which dont need magical effects to kill animals.

I made a graphical representation of the current situation regarding telekinesis.
>>
>>5132691
This is assuming that telekenisis gives projectiles bullet speed, and the description reads that the power is based on the strenght we already possess.I think that at most it will add extra strenght to throwing rocks but not by alot especially considering its a tier 1 spell.
>>
>>5132726
Let me dream. Let me dream of Hyenus shoving his balls in the faces of demons. I hope the QM will clarify if Telekinesis can be used to yeenus the balls at mach speeds.
>>
>>5132691

Kek. GG no re.
>>
>>5132726
Techincally strength is preserved, since if a person can bench press 45 kg at 1m/s2 (450 newtons), then he could apply the same 450N to propel a tiny object at retarded speeds. Usually this doesn’t happen because muscles can’t twitch that fast.
>>
>>5132750
Can you apply the same math if we buff up Hyenus's strength and agility?
>>
>>5132778
I would have to know Hyenus’es actual strength.
I’m just making estimates.
>>
>>5132691
Forgot to mention cool drawing :)
>>
>>5132784
Why not use the examples you've already made? How hard could he throw a lead ball if he stacked the bonuses of Feral Speed, a strength potion, an agility potion, food buffs, and from magic spell buffs?
>>
>>5132868
Well, if we assume a 10% buff from the boar salad and a 50% buff from the strength potion, then our hypothetical 42kg and 150kg limits would go to 76.2kg (762N) and 240kg (2400N) respectively, giving us an acceleration of 7620m/s2 and 24000m/s2 for a 100g lead ball.
For a target that is 10 meters away, that should give us a max speed of
390m/s and 692m/s and acceleration time of 0.051s and 0.028s respectively.
The spell only accounts for strength, not agility.
I’m pretty sure that FoJ only increases hit damage and not actual strength.
Those are all the buffs I know of. And yeah bloodthirst and bloodlust exist, but we are never going to use those powers in conjuction with telekinesis, and actueally measuring his strength would be more useful.
If we want to go even further beyond, we should think about using actual spitzer bullets or flechettes, made from hardened steel, tungsten or uranium, since smashing lead rounds against very hard targets at high speeds will just make them mushroom or shatter.
>>
>>5133018
The strength potion was debut a while ago, going down from +50% to +30% strength. Still that's a good enough estimate assuming the minimum buffs from magic buffing spells is 20%.

The bullets you mentioned, iron balls might be easier to acquire and less likely to shatter, and hardened steel while probably going to be a hassle to acquire, we can probably get. Tungsten and uranium I have doubts will be in the fortress.
>>
>>5133074
Yeah, I’m sure the dwarves would have trouble forging tungsten on a finery or extracting uranium, but steel should be alright unless we wanted to make anti-tank ordnance.
Hardened steel means that it was quenched. An acceptable compromise would be case hardened wrought iron with a high carbon exterior (as in putting the balls in hot coals for around an hour or so).

>>
>>5133240
Remember it's only +6 strength per punch, when unarmed. The FoJ spell would only be as useful as our unarmed skill rating and strength rating. If we have to shill 60 MP for 10 magical punches, then we might be doing something wrong. We gotta kill 1 demons with 1 magic punch each.

If we can control small swarms of darts with telekinesis we pretty much can delete eyes and enemies with impunity.

Otherwise I vote fists of justice just so we can pop fuckers heads off their shoulders and rip and tear with the very glory of god.
>>
>>5135211
We can easily come back again to learn the cool combat ones later once we do a bit of physical training.
Right now healing is important since we have half hp and from what i know that gives us debuffs in dicerolls.
>>
>>5135211
I’m pretty sure that some of the higher level aberrations would have way too much body mass/HP to be affected by such a small wound, even if the darts were explodium tipped.
>>
>>5135211
The spear we got in early threads was a shitty one, but one that dealt 20 damage. That's more damage than a +6str spell imo, and controlling a swarm of darts would cost 2MP (before spell cost discounts) per second, per dart. It would be really costly MP wise. Plus, high level demons can probably shrug off poisons, like how a high level Hyenus will be practically immune to weak poisons the higher his level. Right now we need to heal, so we can fight better, because we're suffering a -5 to combat rolls, and a -10% to attributes. We'll pretty much flounder about when we fight our way to meet with Luna.

I remember saying at some point that there's a hard limit to how much you can train per day, but for simplicity's sake I'm going to remove this limit to keep stuff related to time easier to keep track of (at least for me). As a general rule, training is always effective until you start getting too tired or drowsy, at which point you'll get penalties to EXP gains and will need to rest.

>>5131306
>Is there an MP based herb that can give you MP?
Due to the nature of mana, no herb or plant that grows naturally recovers MP, unless it's used to make potions that, after blessing them, work as a catalyst for mana

>>5131855
>Would the Focus attribute add a positive bonus to making potions?}
Don't see why not. From now on you'll get a bonus of +1 when making potions per 5 levels in Focus, up to +10 bonus at max Focus

>We rounding down for base cost reduction?
Only when the decimal value ends in less than or equal to ,5. Any value past that will be rounded up.

>Thaaaaat means we'd get +12 Focus EXP? Is that enough to level up Focus?
Yes

A minimum of 15 minutes nets you 5-10 Focus EXP

>>5132691
Hah hah, good stuff

>>5134074
>Is there such a way we could use the Healing Palm spell to pimp slap the life back into people?
Sure, but the total mana cost would be increased by 20% due to not properly focusing your mana as if you calmly layed your hands.

>Are there fighting techniques, weapons, etc. that can do stun or nonlethal damage?
All damage removes HP and is thus potentially lethal. Taking too much damage from any source (fists or weapons) in one hit will generally cause the opponent to get stunned or even be knocked out. You might have trouble finding a dwarven weapon that was designed specifically for non-lethal purposes, at most you can use your fists or a blunt weapon with enough care so that your attacks don't remove HP below something like 75%.

>>5134863
>Is there a passive healing spell version of the restoration (regeneration?) potion?
No, only instant healing spells are available
.
>You said proper dieting will improve how much gains Hyenus will get?
Get your three square meals a day from the kitchen (you can ask Bob to give you a greater portion than a dwarf's since gnolls need more food per day). All the nutrients you need will be found in them. While you get no bonus from proper dieting (though you do avoid the penalty from poor dieting), eating a STR buffing meal will let you train harder, essentially increasing the EXP you get per training session
>>
Here's everything you need to know about Telekinesis:

- Telekinesis only works on discrete objects. No picking up water or a volume of sugar

- Telekinesis only works on objects you can see. Blinking or paying attention to something else ends the telekinesis.

- Due to the nature of the spell, 2 MP (which can be lowered to 1 MP with enough Focus) will always be consumed whenever you establish a link with an object, not counting the increasing cost as the seconds pass by. This means that tossing an object in less than a second still takes 2 MP or 1 MP minimum

- Telekinesis works as a sort of astral projection, hence why it's limited by how strong you are. Basically, you project your arms grabbing or flunging an object, which means the speed you can toss rocks or darts at is the same as if you tossed it with your actual arms. Right now, you won't reach mach speed. Level up some more, get some spells and potions and you'll be able to pump your strength to enormous amounts. Then you'll be able to throw rocks at bullet speed, possibly more.

- Gotta be honest, I never thought that Telekinesis could be used to grind Focus so easily. That was totally unintended but it wouldn't be fun if I went back on my word, so yes anons, you CAN cheese it. And I'll add an in-universe explanation as to why it works and how some clever priests recur to this great method of mental training.

Give her whey so she can get swole.
Just kidding, I’m pretty sure that she couldn’t even digest it, and she could just make her avatar stronger if she needed to, probably. And I’m not really sure what else would actually increase her power, except for potions. Giving her the corpses of our enemies is a big no, because she doesn’t like excessive violence or gore.

Sorry for the delay anons, since some of you discussed a bit what Datz should do while Hyenus trains, I worked on an update prior to starting the training so you can decide what to do. I'll post in about 2 hours

Meditation is good for Daitza. It would also be fortunate for us if she has any skills in magic. If she does, the first skill I'd suggest for her would be telekinesis so she can grind it up to 20 really fast.

"A'ight, gnolls..." Murdock says, preparing to impart his lesson. "Before I teach you 'bout magic, I want you to tell me what ye *think* it is and how it’s used by your fellow tribals. Y'know, just in case I gotta clear up any misconceptions you might have."

Daitza and you stare at each other. You’re not sure how to begin, so with a nod you give her free pass to speak first. "Well…” She meets the priest’s gaze, “Our shaman says that magic is a Devil's power running through a gnoll's veins, and it's what some gifted Bloodseekers can use by instinct to increase their strength immensely once per day. We call it ‘going bloodthirsty’.”

"Yup” you add in. “And if you control magic with your mind like the shaman does, you can also cast fireballs, summon demons and do all sorts of crazy stuff... but that takes lots of years of training, and most of us want to spend them doing more exciting stuff like fighting and kicking ass, so a weak or calm kid must be chosen as the shaman’s successor to learn under his care for a decade.”

Daitza nods at you with a somewhat worried look. “Natasha’s magic has grown super powerful lately, hasn’t it? The old man seems to be really proud of having a pupil like her...”

“Have you seen the size of her fireballs, Datz? They're almost as big as a humie! Scary stuff... but it's also pretty cool, don't ya think?"

She quickly shakes her head. “That woman gives me the creeps, Hyeny. I forgot to tell you about this, but a few months ago, I remember an occasion where I noticed her staring in your direction… with her eyes WIDE OPEN. And you know she’s supposed to be blind...”

“Woah. Really? That’s kind of weird...”

“Right?! I have no idea what goes through her head, but it *cannot* be good. I never liked her that much, you know?”

“You sure it wasn’t because she picked up my scent or something? I mean, she's got a great sense of smell...”

“Nah, she’s totally hiding something. I just know it!”

“Ahem!” Murdock loudly clears his throat, grabbing your attention and Datz's. “I see your understanding of magic ain’t so bad, but there are still a few concepts I gotta’ clear up before teachin' you spells.” With those words, Murdock proceeds to give the two of you a short lesson on the fundamentals of what this odd thing called ‘magic’ is.

According to Murdock, magic – which is also called mana - is divine energy that all gods possess and willingly share with their mortal followers. It allows people to alter reality in many ways that go completely beyond imagination, either by using powers triggered by pure instinct if one’s soul is in perfect tune with the deity’s nature, OR through spells harnessed with the mind. However, achieving the latter requires years and years of practice, hence why spellcasters are so scarce in the world.

If a spellcaster runs out of mana, he or she cannot cast spells and must rest to recover it. Some followers of gods have higher mana reserves than others – dwarven doctors theorize it has to do with the worshipper’s health and body size, while priests believe it’s related to spiritual awareness and mental training. A few others think it's a combination of both.

Murdock claims that the most powerful deity in the universe is Anu - the creator of all that was, is and will ever be. He is the source of all magic, and other lesser deities have simply inherited a part of His powers one way or another through history, using them to satisfy their selfish desires or acquiring their own followers. “The one true God is Anu, and magic granted by Him is the only that can be considered good."

"… And that concludes the lesson.” Murdock takes a deep breath, relieved. “Phew! Man, my throat is dry like a desert. I hope ya two have a clearer idea of what magic is now.”

"Thanks, dude” you say with a smile. “Those were some cool fun facts. Right, Datz?”

“Uh-huh…” Daitza nods slowly with her eyes half-closed. That's the face she makes whenever she's skeptical. “Murdock, there’s something I need to know. You said that Anu is the creator of everything that exists... but HOW do you know he’s not fooling you dwarves like Gnolrek fools our people? Like, how can you be so sure that Anu is a good guy?”

"Oh God..." Hawkodesh sounds worried. "Hyenus, that's a terrible thing to ask a priest."

You have your doubts about Anu too, but there are questions that shouldn’t be asked to certain people… and this priest is probably one of them, judging from the scowl immediately appearing on his face. Almost immediately, Datz realizes she was a bit too reckless there. “Oh! Umm… sorry!” She smiles nervously. “That… that was kind of rude, wasn't it? I didn’t mean it…”

“Hmph...” Murdock grunts and nods, his face relaxing into a smirk. “No big deal. I’ve heard FAR worse from other gnolls. I’m guessin’ you’re the type of person that tends to doubt lots of stuff, am I correct?”

Daitza remains silent for a short while before answering the priest's question. “I… I just want the truth. We led our entire lives believing that Gnolrek cared about us…” She clenches her fists, “... I don’t want Hyeny and I to live another lie. Not again.”

“Datz…” You put a hand on her shoulder - she nods in return. You feel the same way as she does, but you’re not sure if to express it too. After all, how would these priests react if they knew that Anu’s own Champion has doubts about him?...

Murdock's smirk disappears, but he still addresses Daitza with a gentle tone. “I appreciate yer honesty, young lady. Listen… teaching the champ to cast spells will take some time. How ‘bout ye talk to another priest in the meanwhile? Surely learnin’ more ‘bout the Sky Father will change yer mind."

“Uhh…” Daitza looks unsure of his proposal. “No, no… thank you. That’s not needed. I wanna watch Hyeny learn magic.”

Murdock ignores her and looks at a young, robed dwarf who’s been staring at the two of you from afar, curious. “Gandarlig. Come here for a second.” He gestures him to approach.

The young priest nods and approaches, joining the conversation. His looks and demeanor are unremarkable asides from his lack of a beard, though his stoic face does give the impression of a calm, introverted sort of guy.

“Gandarlig, I’ll be busy with the Champion here for an hour or two. I want you to talk to… uh…” Murdock scratches the back of his head, “Y’know, I don’t remember ever askin’ your names, tribals.”

“I’m Hyenus.”

“Name’s Daitza...”

“Huh… those are some odd names.” Murdock looks at the other priest. “Daitza is a good gnoll who has many questions about Anu. Can you talk to her for a while? I hope ‘datz’ okay with ye, har har har. Get it?”

The cleric’s terrible joke gives the young one a smirk, though it quickly fades away in less than a second. “Of course, your Eminence. I will do my best.”

"Talking to him would do Daitza some good, I think" Hawkodesh remarks. "I've observed this dwarf from above the skies sometimes, and he's not a bad kid. Don't worry about him mistreating her."

“Uhh…” Daitza stares at you, unsure of what to do. "I'd love to hear about Anu and all, but I... I gotta do some push-ups! Sorry! You dwarves don't mind if I do that here in the church, right?..."

We need more information from Murdock. Is magic always transactional, granted by the will of a patron, or can some mortals use it inherently with no direct connection to a god just by properly "tuning" into the "deity's nature", regardless of whether the deity knows or cares about the individual? We weren't on Gnolrek's radar before we picked his eye in the caves, and we didn't know about or have any kind of prior connection to Luna when we gained access to her power. Also -- the gnolls seem to be little more than slaves to the demon gods, gaining power at the behest of demonic largesse, but has this relationship ever been inverted? Have there ever been mortals that subjugated angels, demons, or spirits for their magic, if such a thing is even possible?

>Advise Daitza to speak with the priest and learn more about Anu
This is a chance for her to have a one-on-one with a dwarf without the drama and strings that usually come with their kind. It's a perfect opportunity for her to interrogate him about any topics of interest to her -- not just Anu -- without needing us an an intermediary, learning and acquiring information on her own terms. Maybe she can even find out some things that we wouldn't have the time to.

Aaaaaany chance they could spare some uses of Healing Palms?
Tell Daitza that Hawkodesh says he's a good kid. I also think it's funny that this kid might be a kid in dwarven standard, but might be technically older than either of us due to dwarf longevity. Oh! Maybe he can teach her something cool, like Lunaskin or Fist of Justice, or possibly something different entirely.

By "subjugation", I think it's more in terms of using magic to enslave supernatural entities for more magic. Like some kind of classical or Solomonic demonology by which you can bind an internal being and use its power for yourself or obligate it to complete tasks on your behalf.
>>
>>5139825
For that you would need to already be magical, and normal living beings are not, so unless you were cunning enough to trick an entity into using most of its mana to trap itself into a magical cage and give you the keys, or had another, magical entity help you out, it shouldn’t be possible.
>>
Rolled 3 (1d31)

Looks like Hyenus will adviSe Daitza to go chat with the priest and learn about Anu, then begin his magic training with Murdock. Going to roll for how long it takes. Formula is: 60 minutes + (roll - 1) minutes

>>5139678
You can ask him, but you probably won't get the answer you're expecting.
>>
>>5139834
Demons have been shown to grant power in exchange for sacrifices, just to give an established baseline for how they operate and a means of acquiring demonic magic. Suneyh demonstrated both their propensity towards hierarchy, their desire for material things like slaves, and their willingness to make deals; all of this indicates it's possible to get a demon to give you something or do something for you if you can make the right deal, which could be an initial source of demonic spells to then use against other demons. Perhaps more importantly, their hierarchy and the apparent opposition between different demonic "factions" means it is likely possible to play them off of each other (or in a different sense, have them "play you") in their desire for domination over other demons and souls in the infernal hierarchy and victory over their rivals. An enterprising demonologist could take advantage of this to assume more power and leverage in their interactions with demons than is the case with primitive infernal worshippers like gnolls.

If there is some magical way to prevent demons or other entities from dematerialising, then it is feasible to capture and torture them for additional knowledge or possibly even boons. If there is a way to subject demons to some kind of binding contractual obligation, then they can be turned into servants or sources of magic directly. Of course, there's a certain amount of baked-in greed and short-sighted foolishness with this approach, but if any part of it is possible, then there have likely been mortals that have attempted this "demonology."
>>
>>5139888
Well, it seems doable if you put it like that.
>>
>>5139884
Ask him anyways.
Wew. Hyenus got that big brain energy. He learned it in 62 minutes.

>>5139888
I'd personally prefer perma killing demons, but if that works then sure? I do like the idea of having demons fight one another. Maybe if we get enough talking or charisma based perks, we can get good enough at work spitting to have different faction demons fight one another.
>>
>>5139898
Woa there, leave the prayers for bedtime.
>>
>>5139894
It is more a thought exercise on what other "forms of magic" might possibly exist in the world besides these dwarven theurges and the gnollish devil-worshipper shamans. If there are sorcerers or demonologists that take advantage of sources of demonic power and do so in more sophisticated ways than the full-blown devil worship of gnolls, then they might be dangerous enemies in the future, given that they still play into satisfying the goals and aims of Hell. Or allies, I suppose, if they're sensible and principled about preventing demonic domination -- but that sounds unlikely. There is also the extended question of whether this unknown category of magic users might consort with or subjugate entities besides demons.
>>
>>5139918
When you start incarcerating, and siphoning powers from magical entities with total impunity, there is no reason to stop at some specific type of creature.
>>
>>5139898
Manipulating demons to cause more infighting among them might be a good idea. We should mention it to Anu to make sure he wont take it as betreyal and maybe he could give us more info on demons to determin if this is even doable as his champion.
>>
>>5139928
Doing it ourselves would be quite difficult since we are Anu’s champion and exude a holy aura. We could possibly trashtalk a demon into making bad choices if we saw one though.
>>
Just realized how lucky we are that QM's not British, otherwise we'd be using hyaena instead of hyena, which would make the MC's name a bit awkward.

>demons gets insulted so hard they rather die than live with the shame
>>
>>5139924
I have doubts about the prospect of "subjugation", given that no spell or magic has been shown to impose the conditions necessary to truly enslave a supernatural being (though that's not to say there's nothing like that out there and we simply haven't seen evidence of it yet), but extortion via torture or threat of destruction does sound like a realistic prospect. The angels were "killed", after all, and Suneyh seemed both distressed by the wounds inflicted upon him and afraid of the fate his superiors would deal upon him for his failures.

Consortation with demons and spirits by fulfilling a transaction or deal without actual worship seems to be exactly what we've been doing already, given that we do not worship Luna but have nevertheless tapped into her power and benefitted from her assistance, and our relationship with Gnolrek previously had fit a similar paradigm. Perhaps the interactions between Hyenus and his mother also fall into this category. If other mortals freely consort with supernatural entities without worship and instead share a transactional relationship, then the rot of Faustian devil-fraternisation could be quite widespread.

You know what would be really funny?
What if hyenus actually became snow white, and everyone else stayed the same?
>>
Forethought: when we eventually go find Luna in the Abandoned Mines, Daitza should teach Hyenus how to scout, how to be stealthy, and how to spot things. Anything Daitza is proficient in should be used while exploring the cave so Hyenus can level up as they travel and kill things.
>>
>>5142004
Why inside the caves, and not inside or room?
>>
>>5142032
Because the lessons would be more effective when put into practice. It's hard to sneak around in a single room apartment, plus there would be no animals to kill.
Training Hyenus's tracking, sneaking, foraging, and fighting skills with Daitza on our way to meet Luna is convenient and efficient.

There are three underdark areas in this fortress:
1) The haunted dwarven catacombs, which are found in the last floor. Ghosts and demons have taken over this place. You'll probably travel here to recover the Lunar Armour (see the OP pic) if you want the best chestplate and cloak of the quest, as well as be officially recognized as the Champion by the dwarves, with the ceremony and all.
2) The abandoned mines. There are aggressive animals and monsters here, as well as ingredients for Alchemy and Cooking recipes. There might be some optional sidequests or tasks that will involve going here, in case you want to earn the dwarves' respect.
3) The underground sea lake, a long and vast network of tunnels and caverns that connect to the ocean. Mysterious species live in these tunnels, some of them sentient.

Hawkodesh claims that this priest is not a bad guy, so there should be no harm in sending Datz with him. This is a good chance for her to learn more about Anu and share her findings with you later. The more you know about the enigmatic god that made you his Champion, the better...

"Psst..." You grab Daitza’s arm and pull her closer to whisper in her fuzzy ears. “I think you should go with the humielet. We need to know as much as we can about Anu."

“But… but what if he’s a smug idiot like most dwarves?” Not unexpectedly, she’s unhappy with the idea, though she makes sure to keep her voice low about it. “Seriously, if I hear one calling us gnoggers ONE more time..."

"Don’t worry, Hawkodesh told me this one is alright. C’mon, just look at him…" Datz glances at the quiet priest, who stares back at her shyly. "Clearly he’s not dumb enough to provoke two big, scary gnolls like us.”

"Hmm. Now that you mention it, he looks kind of weak compared to other humielets..." She grins at the young dwarf, who quickly averts his eyes off her. "Hah! A scaredy one. Who woulda thought. Maybe we can get along just fine."

“So... you’ll talk to him, then?"

“Weeeell, I’d rather watch you learn magic, but…” Daitza pauses to stare at the priest, thinking of what to do. Soon, she sighs and gives you a lazy nod. "Fine. I guess I’ll go and gather some information. That’s what scouts do, after all..."

"Cool, cool. If you get bored or something, you could just talk to him about whatever."

“Uh-huh. We’ll see." She puts a hand on your shoulder, smiling. “As for you, Hyeny… I want you to train *hard* and give your best. Next time we talk, you better show me a really cool magic spell. Got it?”

You grin with pure confidence in your heart. “I will.”

Daitza, Murdock and you trade nods. She walks up to Gandarlig, who flinches at the sight of the imposing predator approaching him. "Gre-greetings, Daitza. Blessings of Anu upon you…"

"Heya!" your pal greets him carefreely. "I've got some questions about the god you dwarves worship. You gonna answer them, right?”

"Yes... yes, of course."

"Hmm? I can't hear you." Daitza playfully leans closer, pretending not to hear him. The dwarf steps back with a scared look on his face, getting a naughty smile out of Datz. "I-I said yes. Let's take a seat, please…" He leads her down the stairs to one of the front seatings.

Murdock gives the two of them a concerned stare. "I hope yer companion treats Gandarlig well. Poor kid ain't got many friends - the last thing he needs is a gnoll making fun of him."

"Daitza can be a bit blunt sometimes, but I know her well. She won't say anything to hurt him on purpose." That is, as long as the dwarf doesn't get on her bad side first.

"Mmhm…" Murdock nods, somewhat appeased. "Alrighty then. Ye ready to start your spellcastin’ lesson?"

You smile and give him a thumbs up. "Been looking forward to it. Let's do this!”

>TIME: 13:20

Murdock describes four basic spells he can teach you, starting with 'Lunarskin' - a power that lets you create a magical barrier around you or somebody else. It absorbs all incoming damage until it breaks apart or runs out of steam.

The second spell is 'Healing Palms'. As the name suggests, it allows you to restore lost blood and close wounds before your very eyes by laying your hands on yourself or another wounded, living creature.

The next power Murdock talks about is the 'Fists of Justice', called that way because it works by focusing Anu's energy in your hands, allowing you to punch much harder than normal…

Finally, there is the 'Telekinesis' spell, which lets you grab and push objects with your mind. This one seems pretty interesting, though the drawback is that it’s limited by how strong you are. In other words, you won’t be able to lift stuff like trees and boulders… yet.

After listing all four spells, the priest asks which one you want to learn, so you ponder for a while before making a decision. Telekinesis could be really fun and also convenient for certain situations, but Lunarskin can save your life in case someone attacks you by surprise. Then again, calling forth your Fists of Justice to punch a demon's head off clean would be none more than satisfying…

All those powers have their uses, but Datz and you are in need of healing right now, and the only spell that lets you do something about it is Healing Palms. Without a doubt, it's the first one you should be learning. The rest can come later. Once you tell Murdock that you are interested in this power, he agrees to teach you, but not before issuing you a warning: the session will be suspended if he sees no considerable progress in two hours. You understand his terms and agree to them - if magic takes you way too long to get a handle of, you'll have to find other means of becoming powerful fast.

However, something tells you that this training will lend great results. Maybe it’s overconfidence, maybe not, but you feel absolutely capable of becoming a spellcaster like Natasha. There’s only one way to find out… it’s time to TRAIN!

You nod. This tingling, warm sensation is undeniably Anu’s energy, and its presence becomes stronger the more you focus on it. It’s kind of pleasant in a way that’s hard to be described.

"Anu grants us powers to fend off evil and alleviate suffering in a world where malevolence reigns supreme. If ye seek to heal the wounded, the first step is to feel *compassion*. Only then will ye be able to make yer palms glow with the Lord’s healing light, and your touch will become miraculous by His grace."

"Feel pity while focusing mana in my palms… got it. Lemme try." You mutter a mental picture of an injured Daitza moaning in pain, a sight that hurts your heart badly. Keeping her on mind, you try to gather energy in your hands to heal her... but nothing happens. You try again and again, imagining worse scenarios with her, until you get tired of doing this morbid crap. Damn it! What are you doing wrong?!

You open your eyes and ask Murdock why the hell your method is not working. He sighs. “Listen, kid. Anyone wishes well upon their loved ones, but true compassion is to make no difference between friend or foe, dwarf or gnoll, family member or not. It is to take pity and concern for the misfortunes of others, regardless of their affiliation to ye. This is the mark of a truly selfless Champion.”

“Foes?” His words confuse you. "Why would I feel compassion for my enemies? If anything, it would please me to see their downfall."

"No, no...” The priest scratches his head, frowning. “Ye have to let go of yer grudges. They do nothin’ but poison the soul and make you vulnerable to demonic influence. Ye gotta replace yer hatred… with LOVE.”

“That sucks! I don’t want to love those that mess with me!”

Murdock rolls his eyes and glares at you. “Then ye won’t be able to use Healing Palms or most of Anu’s spells for that matter. Have fun getting ripped to shreds in the catacombs, foolish gnoll.”

“I… all I want is to cast spells. Is that so much to ask for?”

“Spellcasting involves MIND and HEART workin’ together. If ye wanna do magic, ye gotta learn to use both. It ain’t easy, but this is what ye signed up for as the Champion. Deal with it!”

“Okay, okay....” This is much harder than you thought. “Can you at least help me experience this ‘true’ compassion you mentioned?

“Do the same exercise you were doing, but with folk you have no bonds with. Imagine ‘em going through great pain, and only *you* have the power to do something ‘bout it. See past your relationship with ‘em. Place yerself in their shoes – I mean, feet. FEET. Forgot you tribals don’t know about shoes. You get what I’m sayin’…? Make their suffering YOURS.”

“Uhh… alright. Lemme try again.” You close your eyes and concentrate…

This time, you'll take a different approach and try to feel compassion for someone you are not fond of. Hmm… maybe Gunyx? No! Hell no! Anyone but him. Compassion is the least you could have for that douchebag. He’s definitely out of the question…

What about the goblin that ran through you with a spear weeks ago? Yes, this works better. The sole thought of that creature makes your blood boil with rage. Not only it had the audacity of killing a boar in YOUR hunting grounds - it also dared to stab you for rightfully defending your territory! The vermin deserved a far worse death at your hands, like ripping out its intestines, or gouging its eyes off and shoving them down its throat, or...

… Oh. These are the thoughts the priest advised you to get rid of. Hmph… fine. You have no option but to try, though you doubt it’s going to work. Let’s see… Murdock told you to put yourself in the other’s ‘feet’ or something like that. You THINK you get what it means...

If you were that dirty goblin, maybe all you wanted was to fill your belly with food and happened upon a tasty looking boar in the forest, not knowing it belonged to a nearby tribe of gnolls… and suddenly, this one came out of the blue and murdered your poor friend without a warning.

A goblin cannot beat a gnoll in battle, so you begged for your life with tears in your eyes. He called you a pathetic, sobbing mess and let you go out of pity… but of course you wouldn’t let him get away scot free after killing your buddy. That’s why you grabbed the nearest spear and stabbed the gnoll in the guts when he least expected it.

However, things didn’t go quite as planned. The beastman, still on his feet, went on a bloodthirsty rage and… and…

… A slow, agonizing death as you are mauled alive by the savage.

That’s what you brought upon two greenies who were merely trying to survive out in the wilderness... and all for what? To prove yourself a real Bloodseeker. A merciless warrior that murders all who dare to set foot on his lands uninvited - a fighter unafraid of gore and using the pain of the flesh as a tool to assert dominance over the weak. Those are the ideals of Gnolrek and your tribe's, and you fulfilled them perfectly on that day...

... And yet, there's this pain growing in your heart. Unbelievable. You actually feel guilty for what you’ve done. Why do you even care? Those goblins were not gnolls, and certainly not members of your pack. Neither was the Molkara you killed a few days ago for invading your territory, or the many humies tortured and sacrificed by your people every month. You have no reason to give a damn about any of those creatures… but no matter how badly you try to shake off the guilt, you cannot. You can't help but feel bad... REALLY bad for anyone who meets a horrible fate at the hands of your pack.

By murdering in cold blood, your hands are now tainted as well. For all these years, you tried to shut this inner voice telling you that Bloodseeker practices are wrong... but it seems you are not so different from them. Your macabre act even awakened within you the demonic power of Bloodthirst. Without knowing, you had set foot on Gnolrek’s path.

If it wasn’t due to the eyepicking incident at the cave, you wouldn't have met Anu, and things would be so much different today. You’d have returned to the tribe with Datz, kept working your way up the ranks and, eventually, become the Bloodseeker you always wanted to be... or who you THOUGHT you wanted to be.

Despite your origins, Anu laid his eyes upon you. Of all the wise and strong warriors that would’ve been more than happy to be his Champion, he chose a violent beastman who’s entirely clueless of the world outside his tribe. He saw something in you. You’re not sure what… but it definitely wasn’t just your strength potential.

If only you could use the powers he granted you to save people from being killed for the ‘glory’ of the Devils. If you could save even one person, whether it’s a gnoll, goblin or otherwise… that would be nice. It would offset some of the misery your past actions brought - not just to those goblins, but to all beastfolk you’ve killed and eaten over the years. None of them are coming back to life, but maybe… maybe you CAN do something for those that are still alive.

Nobody deserves to suffer at the mercy of demons. Their evil runs rampant in the forest on the surface, but also within this fortress. Someone ought to shed a light of hope upon all these poor creatures…

>TIME: 14:22

Hawkodesh’s strident voice echoes within you, more powerful than ever. “THE HOLY WATCHES OVER US, CHAMPION. YOU HAVE DONE WELL.”

The power of Anu flows freely through you, calmly like a stream of water, yet with the burning heat of the Sun, surrounding your hands in pure light. Everyone's jaws in the church have dropped to the floor, their eyes popping out of their heads. Even the seven dwarves casting that strange spell flinch at the sight of you achieving what took them years of study.

Murdock is no less than impressed, unable to mutter any words. “HOLY SHI- I mean, by… by all that is holy! This gnoll, he… he actually DID it! Hah… hah hah hah… HAH HAH HAH HAH!!! I have no words, man! No words at all!”

Daitza stares at you, her gaze sparkling with wonder. ”Whooooaaaaa! That’s amazing, Hyeny! I KNEW you can do it!” She runs up to you to give your glowing hands a closer look.

The other dwarves and priests stare at you in dumbfounded silence, trying to process what’s transpiring here. A few of them give you harsh glares, unable to accept the truth of your championship. Of all the robed figures, Gandarlig is the only one to break his stoic demeanor, kneeling down and uttering joyful prayers to Anu. “Praise the Lord! Praise the Almighty!...”

News of this will travel fast. The whole fortress will soon know that you are a spellcaster of Anu… however, you doubt it's going to change much, other than incur great jealously and spite from many stubborn dwarves.

The light in your hands still remains. It's time to act.

Ask Murdock for sidequests for EXP
Give the Eye of Anu on the ceiling a thumbs up.

All I'm saying guys, if the priests agree to heal us, we can use our MP for something else. Like self healing while exploring the mines, healing other injured dwarves, healing injured servants, healing the mining slaves in the mines. Anu is all about that compassion, so sharing compassion is bound to give us a boon or two.

I still adamant about learning at least one more spell, Murdok said we would later have to talk in front of all dorfs, having a few spells Anu aproved spells under our bag might help give a good image and we're the real deal and Murdok and Gandarling can be our testimonies if someone decides to call us out. My vote goes for telekinesis.

Fair enough, but we really should swing by the cafateria before they finish serving lunch. It's important to get as much food in us as we can, and there's nothing stopping us from swing back to the church when we finish eating so we can learn telekinesis.

>>5143119
Theoretically, would we recover MP passively while learning new spells, or would it not recover because we're training?

We still need to ask why we can only use some of Anu's powers once a day.

I think we're too far away, it might been 3-4 threads to us, but for Hyenus he just woke up, had sex, took a bath and came out of the council, I say it's still far away.

You check Daitza up and notice she's putting all her weight in one leg, clearly in pain and struggling to stay on her feet. She was so excited about your glowing palms that she carelessly ran up to you to have a closer look at them, forgetting that she's in a delicate state...

It's time to put this godly energy to use. "Stay put, Datz. I'll do something about your wounds."

"Ooh! So this is that healing spell you spoke about..." The thrilled Daitza closes her eyes, smiling, though you notice she's a bit agitated. "O-okay! I'm ready! T-this isn't going to hurt, is it...?"

"Not a single bit." You calmly lay your hands on her face, one on each cheek, and transfer a batch of curative mana into her. The results are immediate. In less than a second, many of the scratches and bruise marks on her disappear out of thin air!

>Daitza's HP: 90 / 145 (62%, Wounded)
>+3 Focus EXP (Tier 1 spell cast)
>+5 Focus EXP (First time using Healing Palms. Level up! Focus is now level 11)

"Whoa!" Daitza opens her eyes, revealing great surprise in them. "W-what did you do? For a moment I felt like my body was burning from the inside!"

You remove your hands from her. "That was the power of Healing Palms. How do you feel now?"

"I feel..." Datz proceeds to examine her arms. There is amazement in her gaze as she realizes that her injuries are gone. She gives you a big, happy smile. "I feel so, SO much better. My face doesn't hurt anymore, my backache is gone..." Daitza stretches her arms and legs, makes a few jumps in the air and does some basic acrobatic moves. The other dwarves murmur to each other as they watch her, though you don't quite understand what they're saying.

"O-ouch..." A moan of pain escapes her lips as she crouches. "I-I'm still a little bruised, but this is nothing compared to before. That spell is awesome, Hyeny..." She grabs your hands and puts them on your own face. "Cast it on yourself too! Don't forget you aren't in good shape either."

You nod and proceed to focus Anu's energy in your palms once more, invoking at the same time thoughts of wounded gnolls begging for aid so you may experience the compassion required for this spell. Soon enough, another batch of healing energy is released from you, this time upon yourself.

>Hyenus' HP: 132 / 194 (68%, Wounded)
>+3 Focus EXP (Tier 1 spell cast)

Phew! Daitza is right. What a spell! It's like a volcano erupted within you and went dormant in less than it takes to blink. Almost immediately, you notice the effects of this power. The pain of your wounds has diminished considerably, though you still feel to be in need of more healing. Maybe bigger gnolls need more casts of Healing Palms to get a bigger benefit from it...

This gives you an idea. You stare at Murdock and the priest kid called Gandarlig, both standing next to Daitza. "You guys probably noticed our injuries, right? I've still got some mana left in me, but I'd prefer to keep it for an emergency. Would you please heal the two of us?"

"Injured?" The gray haired priest raises his eyebrows, looking kind of surprised. "Ahh... so the rumors of the bathhouse incident are true."

"Haha, yeah... kind of..." Daitza and you shrug and try to laugh it off. It's only been a few hours and the whole fortress is already aware of what happened! You're really going to miss the privacy and freedom of living on the surface...

Murdock sighs. "That was a dumb thing to do, tribals, but ye probably figured it out by now, so I ain't boring ye with any sermons. Now..." He closes his eyes and raises his hands. In a matter of seconds, his hands start glowing just like yours did. "You two stay put. I'm gonna heal you up."

You and your pal let Murdock do his work, all while Gandarlig and the rest of the church watch in silence. The priest touches Daitza's left arm and performs the healing process, then moves onto you next, laying his hands on your right arm and using his magical powers...

>Daitza's HP: 115 / 145 (79%, Bruised)
>Hyenus' HP: 157 / 194 (81%, Bruised)

"There ya go."

Datz and you open your eyes and smile at each other. You feel so, so much better now. There's still some mild pain here and there, but it's nothing that hampers your movements like it did before. Finally, you are ready for battle again!

"I wish I'd spend more mana on ye" Murdock explains, "but we priests gotta keep some for urgencies like, y'know... people getting possessed and having to exorcize 'em, or any sudden demon outbreaks. A shame that mana potions are so difficult to make."

You nod. "Thanks anyway. You've been of great help." You look at Gandarlig. "Hey, kid. Can you spare an use of Healing Palms for us?"

"M-me?" The dwarf teen stares at Murdock, then back at you, lowering his head. He looks embarrassed for some reason. "I'm... I'm sorry, but... the truth is, I'm still finishing my studies on that spell. I really wish to heal you, I really do, but... as much as I want to, I just can't. Forgive me, please... forgive me."

"That's fine!" says a smiling Daitza. "Really, it's no big deal. No need to apologize."

"Thank you..." Her words seem to lift the shy priest's mood a bit.

This young priest is so amiable compared to others of his race that you can't help but want to give him a few words of encouragement. "An angel told me you're a good boy, Gandarlig. I bet you'll be a great spellcaster one day. Hell, maybe you'll create a new spell or something!"

The kid smiles meekly. "Thank you for your kind words, Champion..." He even calls you by your title! What a nice dwarf.

You notice that most of the humielets in the church are standing up and leaving, including the priests who were observing you from afar. Eventually, the only ones remaining are the seven spellcasting dwarves, Murdock, Gandarlig, Datz and you.

As you try to understand what's the deal with all the people who left, your nostrils are suddenly hit with a delicious smell, throwing you out of balance. The odour of many types of meats combined in a single trail of smoke comes from the Dining Hall, making your stomach and Daitza's growl furiously and causing your mouths to water up...

Murdock kneads his belly. "Boy, I'm starving! Dunno what your plans are, tribals, but it's lunchtime for me. I'll return here at the sixteenth tick, in case ye want to learn any more spells or need anythin' else from me."

"Sixteenth tick?" you and Daitza say in unison, confused about the strange term.

"Oh, right... you tribals measure time differently. To make it short, it simply means ye can find me here again in one hour and a half. M'kay?"

"Got it. Just one last thing before you go..." You want to make a petition that's been on your mind for a while. "Murdock, we would be grateful if you put in a good word for us and help us get the equipment for a successful expedition to the catacombs."

"Yeah!" Daitza says. "You're a respected dwarf, Murdock. The others should listen to you, right?"

The priest remains quiet, giving you a strange look... and suddenly, he grins and breaks out in inexplicable laughter. "Hah hah hah hah! Aaah... 'respected', the gnoll says. Good one. Heh heh... heh..." He shakes his head slowly, lowering his eyes with a smile that doesn't seem genuine at all.

Gandarlig walks up to the cleric and puts a hand on his shoulder. "I respect you, Father Murdock."

"Ye shouldn't, kiddo... ye shouldn't." A defeated, smelly sigh escapes his mouth, making the young dwarf step away fast. Murdock meets your gaze, his eyes lacking vitality. "Look, tribals... given that the fate of the world is in peril and all that, I'll TRY to intercede for ya... but no promises. Don't expect me to get anythin' from the other diggers."

Datz and you exchange looks, after which you nod at the dwarf. "We... understand."

I'm gunning for that "only need 4 hours of sleep a day" boon so we have additional time to train today tomorrow. We could spend that extra four hours meditating, reading books, working out, casting spells. So long as it's all limited to our room since I'm not certain of Daitza's safety until we deal with the demons in the catacombs, and esentually removing Ferrens connection with the greater demon.

>Pray to Anu for a special boon (Takes 15 minutes. Shows a list of boons you can pick from)

Hypothetically if we get the minimal sleep boon out of all the other boons, what would be the best way to spend our time?
If I had a vote on what we should do, i would ask Anu if he could grant his boon to both Hyenus and Daitza so they can both continue their training. If Anu can only grant boons to Hyenus, then I'd recommend getting a super NyQuil sleeping potion for Daitza, that way we can carry her wherever we go to train until she wakes up. We would only need to do this until the Beast Fucker guy has been dealt with, then she can stay in our shared room to sleep as much as she wants.

In terms of training, I think it would be best spend collecting herbs, opportunistically hunting creatures, making potions, and improving our alchemy skill by brewing a ton of workout drinks if the Alchemist is too much of a salty sam to make potions for us.

Considering that not even the coolest dwarves in the fortress seem to have any boons, I don’t think that anyone but the champion can have them.

Aaron was able to give both Hyenus and Daitza the internal clock boon thing. Maybe there's some hope for boon transfering shenanigans.

Uhm, something to add to the to do list, Daitza is going to need some Focus training so she's less liable to get tricked by demons and magic users, since you need a high focus to resist mental stuff.

"Not so fast, Datz. Before we go, I want to ask Hawkodesh about these priests." You aren't leaving this place until he tells you what's up with them.

"Oh! Um, okay. I guess I'm kind of curious too..." She sighs. "I wish I could hear what your bird angel has to say. Not gonna lie, it's a bit awkward seeing you talk to yourself."

"Yeah, I imagine how it looks. Don't worry, I'll always fill you in on everything he tells me."

"Mmhm..."

"So, birdman... what's up with those priests casting that strange spell? Don't they get tired of doing it for so long?"

"Indeed" Hawkodesh explains, "They must endure up to *eight* hours straight of spellcasting before another group of priests takes their places. It is an arduous but crucial task, as these dwarves are the very reason this world has not yet been invaded by demons."

"Really? Why?"

"Because with the powers of Anu combined, they channel a spell called 'Holy Grounds', which covers not only the entirety of this fortress, but also a good deal of the forest above us - mainly Bloodseeker territory and its neighbor tribes. Baptizing the terrain renders it much more difficult for shamans to summon demons, as all but the most powerful would be sent back to Hell the moment they set foot in the sanctified area."

"Interesting. Does this spell have anything to do with Suneyh being engulfed in fire when I suplexed him out of the cave?"

"Exactly! That was because of Holy Grounds. As you can probably guess, if it wasn't for these priests, nothing in the world would stop the demons coming from the portal of leaving the cave."

"So that means we're safe, as long as they keep casting the spell..."

"Not necessarily, I'm afraid. Holy Grounds has been of immense use to keep the invasion at bay, but it does have its downsides, namely the fact it requires constant concentration, that some demons are capable of counteracting or dispelling its effects and, perhaps most unfortunately, that it does *not* kill demons permanently. While their bodies are destroyed, their souls simply return to Hell and assume a new form."

"It feels kinda weird that the fate of everyone depends on these humielets not losing their focus."

"Ah, but don't forget Anu granting them His powers, the other dwarves protecting them... and now, you entering the scene. We all play an important role in Aurus' salvation."

"Understood. Thanks for clearing things up."

"Always a pleasure, Hyenus."

====================

You fill Daitza in on everything Hawkodesh said about the Holy Grounds spell. She's surprised by its huge and important effects. "Amazing... y'know, I think we can make a connection. Remember how our shaman used to be able to summon demons in a matter of hours a year ago? Now, it takes him whole days to invoke a single one."

"Yeah. And it happened at the same time the demon portal appeared in the cave..."

"It's clear the holy spell is making the job harder for Krubbai."

Datz and you stop to admire the dwarves' spell for a while, its aura covering the ceiling with a bright, yellow light. You can't help but stare at the eye of Anu. For some reason, it feels like it's looking back at you...

Suddenly, you get an idea. You are the Champion of a god, maybe the most powerful there is. You learned a spell in just an hour, achieving what it took others decades of training, and you used this magic to heal yourself and your pal. It's clear that your powers are growing quite fast... but Anu can probably increase them even further with his direct intervention. That's what your tribe calls 'boons'.

"Umm... do we go see Luna now?" asks Daitza with a somewhat impatient tone.

You shake your head. "Wait. I've got just one more question for Hawkodesh..." Almost immediately, you feel the angel's attention laid upon you, so you make your thoughts heard. "Hey, I'm just wondering if Anu can give us power. Directly, I mean. My pack members always utter a short prayer to Gnolrek in the morning - they claim it fills them with strength for the rest of the day. Can Anu do the same thing for us?"

"Why, but of course!" Hawkodesh says, sounding happy for some reason. "All dwarves pray to the Sky Father, whether it be for guidance, solace or to strengthen their faith, which is tested everyday in the constant strifes that come from fighting the physical manifestations of evil."

"That's cool, but... I was thinking of a blessing that gives us bigger muscles, or faster movements. We would really benefit from that sort of thing."

"Ooh. Well, my Father's boons come in many forms, some of them akin to what you mention. There are different kinds of prayers dedicated to acquiring specific blessings from Him... and I can guide your words so that they reach the Lord, if you so desire."

"Great! Let's do it, then... ah, but I don't have an offering. Everyone in my tribe sacrifices a creature to Gnolrek before asking for boons..."

"That's not a problem, Hyenus. Unlike Devils and other deities who ask for vacuous gifts and care little for the follower's inherent worth, the gates of Heaven are open to anyone with a heart willing to be filled with Anu's grace."

"A god not interested in offerings? Never heard of such a thing before."

"The only 'sacrifice' you need to make is to humble yourself and accept Him as your master and *only* God. That is all He asks from us, Hyenus. Hence, if you and Daitza seek to be blessed with a holy boon, you must pray and willingly accept His love."

You smile at Daitza. "Guess what the angel told me! If we pray to Anu, he will-"

"Bless us with higher powers..." She's got a oddly serious expression. Maybe it's just your imagination...

"Err... yeah. Hawkodesh can guide our prayers." You walk up to the empty altar up the stairs and kneel in front of it. "Come, Datz. Let's ask Anu for a boon."

"... ... ..." She stays put, giving you a silent, worried look. You get the impression that she doesn't like to see you kneeling.

"Daitza...?"

Suddenly, she speaks her mind. "Do we *have* to bend the knee? Can't we just ask him normally and not like a, you know... a worshipper?"

>"It's just a formality, Datz. We don't actually worship Anu. For us, he's just a powerful ally against the demons - nothing more."
>"If we want to be blessed, we must humble ourselves. There's no other way."

Anu is really attention demanding, it seems like he wasn’t joking when he said that he wanted to be treated like a family member (like a father).
Problem is that he doesn’t just want to be respected and loved, he wants to be THE guy that gets ALL the love. So polytheism or

We can ask for help without prostrating ourselves as his only his servant.

We can admit his power greatly outstrips our own, but that to simply live life in the frame of master and slave, in the concept of only seeking power for status and respect, is too similar to how Gnolls corrupted. And as seen in the Dwarven society, this too has been somewhat corrupted. They claim him as master over them, but let pride override compassion.

If he truly understands where we are coming from, an impassioned plea should be enough. We aren't fighting for ourselves. We took this on in the hopes of saving others. By exhibiting our compassion to him, that should be enough. And if acting out of worry for others isn't enough for him, then what is?

It takes 15 minutes regardless. Even without a boon, a thanks for the ability to cast healing hands and a plea to help us help others should be enough. At least if it comes from a place of compassion.

Maybe sneak in a bit for others to be helped a little as well (considering all the sexual abuse and physical abuse to the 'servants')

“Dunno. I guess this is the trade off between different gods. Others want you to make sacrifices… Anu wants you to kneel fealty.”

“I’m… I’m not sure about this.” Daitza seems unhappy with the idea. “To bow before a god we barely know, right after we were betrayed by ours... it’s… it's strange, ya know?”

“Yeah… I get what you mean.” Your pal's got a point, though maybe she’s being a bit *too* distrustful. Must be because she didn’t see Anu with her own eyes like you did. “Look, you don’t have to join me if you don’t want to. I understand how ya feel.” You give her a smile.

“… … …” Again, your words are met with silence and a concerned look from her. She really, really doesn’t want you to pray to Anu for some reason. You wonder if it has something to do with her conversation with the dwarf priest, but she’d probably say so if that was the case...

“Datz, listen. The only reason I’m getting on my knees to ask for a boon is to make sure we make it out of the catacombs in one piece. That’s all there is to it.”

"It's just..." For a moment, she struggles to find the words. "It's just why can't Anu give us a boon for free, like he did with your other powers? Why must we worship him like we did with Gnolrek?”

“Not sure. I guess boons work differently..." You shrug. "But if praising him grants us more power to face the demons, then so be it. The Council jerks have got our hands tied pretty much, Datz. I don’t know about you, but I’ll set my pride aside for now to ensure our survival.”

“Pride…?” Daitza puts her hands on her hips and raises her eyebrows, an expression that quickly fades into a frown. “You're calling me prideful for not giving myself to a random god like YOU are doing?!”

“Shhh..." You point at the priests, who are a bit startled by her elevated voice. "Daitza. Calm down. Don't distract the dwarves..." Suddenly, the implication of her words hit you. It makes you *angry*. "Hey, I'm NOT giving myself to Anu. I'm just-“

”Yes you are, y-you idiot...” Daitza sighs, dropping her angry posture and looking worried again. “Look, if you're serious about this, it’s your call... just please, PLEASE be careful with letting too much of this... god inside you. Please." A sad smile grows on her face... "For the first time ever, we are free gnolls, Hyeny... free gnolls! Let's aim to keep it that way for a while... okay?"

“Daitza..." You calm down and give her another smile. "I'm just gonna ask for a simple boon to increase my powers. Nothing more. I promise that nothing bad will come out of this.”

She stares at you for a moment, then releases a defeated sigh and nods. “I hope so...”

With those words, you turn around to face the altar, putting your palms together to start praying. However, you remain put for a moment. Thinking. Reflecting on Datz’ words and your own feelings, which are as unclear as ever...

>>
The truth is, you don’t like the idea of kneeling either. It’s one thing to be compassionate and agree with Anu’s ideals, but why does that mean you *must* worship him? Those are different things!

You never cared much about matters of faith, and the horrible experience with Gnolrek only makes you wary of anything to do with gods. When you met Anu, he sounded like a deity with good intentions - that’s why you let him grant you powers to fight the demons… but nothing stops a powerful being like him from lying or machinating secret plans, using you as a mortal puppet to do his bidding for what he would surely call a ‘greater’ purpose.

Even if you ARE a pawn in his big eye, you’d be willing to tolerate it - as long as he doesn’t ask you to love him in return. Thus, the dilemma you are currently going through. The only way of acquiring a boon from Anu is to open your heart to him and let it be ‘filled’ with his grace, as Hawkodesh puts it. Whatever that means, you fear that doing this may turn the transactional relationship you established with him at first into something more personal… and this sounds like giving him free pass to mess with your head.

You’re not sure of what to do. A part of you wants power, while the other doesn’t want to commit to Anu - or any god for that matter. They’re all too sketchy for your taste. He already gave you plenty of perks without asking for worship, so... is an extra boon REALLY worth letting go of your independence?

Despite everything, there is also this inner voice telling you to pray to him, just out of curiosity for what his ‘grace’ actually feels like. Is it right to be so adamant in rejecting him? Mom IS on his side, after all. Maybe you’re missing out due to being so… prideful.

Suddenly, Hawkodesh speaks within you. “Look, boy. I understand that Daitza and you are still coming out of the shock of the past few days, but… given the circumstances, the sooner you accept Anu into your heart, the better. Not only shall you experience a happiness out of this world – it will also allow you to receive His boons, increasing your powers.” The bird sighs. “However… the call is yours. The least I want to do is pressure you.”

I'm sure Anu wouldn't mind us praying later, after we've talked to Luna that is.

Support. Lets just tell Hawkodesh we can't concentrate on our prayer when Daitza is looking at us like that.

>Healthy Sleep (Need only 4 hours of sleep instead of 8)
This is pretty good. Can we switch out boons in the future, or get more?
We might as well go through with this since we did spend the 15 minutes.

>>5147065
Becoming our own god sounds pretty good, we'll just need to consider that when we get there.

>>5147095
Not yet. We still need weapons and armor remember?
>>
>>5147045
>One with the Creation (All potions you craft are +10% more powerful, you find twice as many ingredients while scouting, and you cannot critically fail alchemy and scouting rolls)
Need it, want it, my inner gremlin demands that we get it, more ingredients means more potions we can make....then again, that's what Bark is for if we can get his help. Hrmm. Not a fan of Myth of Luck, and I'm having second thoughts on the potion boon.

Why do some anons want to put off picking up a boon? It's free powers.
>>
>>5147342
It closes us off from any other entity (a boon means we can only work with Anu, we can loose feral speed)

It is a swap power, not a permanent power, once we use it with Anu (ie: we can swap boons)

It goes against the core of what Hyenus stands for, which is picking eyes and independence.

We full SMT neutral.

Losing Feral Speed would suck if that's the consequence of taking another boon from Anu, but it can be substituted with AGI potions and AGI boosting spells. I think I understand what everyone wants sort of, we want to hold off on taking the boon so we can double check with Luna to see if we would still maintain her boon? I think? If we're worried about losing Luna's boon, then why not ask Hawkodesh if we can still keep it?

Cool cool. If it's a swap power we should swap out whatever boon, if we pick a boon in the future, with Gift of Speed. Demons can't hit what they can't touch.

Technically Anu was fine with Hyenus's proficiency with picking eye's so long as it wasn't Anu's big eye. Which is fair. I don't know about independence though. Hyenus's main issue and fear was being manipulated by second and third part forces, which is guess is related to his desire of independence. However, we might not be able to afford selfish luxuries as going our own way, not yet at least. Would it not be more efficient to accept Anu now, and should an opportunity arise for us to ascend to god hood we would take it? Because of the demons we'll have to face in the catacombs?

What's full SMT neutral mean? I think we did something like that in kobold quest and we got our shit stomped on hard. I don't recall the finer details, but something about the gods and devils saying picking neither side will make things harder overall.

tl;dr grab as many boons as we can, deal with problems after we live, still be friends with Luna.

It's a ruby ring.

In the 1st thread I stated that your pack hates all human technology, but your tribe does actually make an exception for shiny ornaments looted from women sacrifices. They think they wear those pretty, but seemingly useless things because it amplifies their spiritual bond to their patron god, which makes them valuable if used by a worshipper of Gnolrek.

However, since the ornaments were tainted by humie hands, only female gnolls who are considered to possess 'great spiritual strength' are allowed to wear them, as it is believed they can resist the artifact's curse. Natasha, Massa and Rika (Daitza's mom, pic related) are examples of such gnolls

Hey anons, the truth is I need to recover a few nights of sleep, so the next update will most likely come out this Friday if not earlier. >>

I would think a god who allegedly values love and compassion so much would let polygamy slide, arbitrarily restricting how many people your followers can love when one of your defining principles as a god is LOVE is kind of fucking retarded
>>
>>5149472
There is. Also the blind wizard blindly follows Gnollrek.
>>
>>5149481
Anu dislikes those sex and rape demon worshippers trying to sneak in their poly orgy relationships in his religion.
Gods are weird and probably have their own version of what love means or should mean.

>>5149485
That was a terrible joke and I love it.
>>
>>5147690
Hey QM you said somwhere that champion of Anu can permakill demons.
So hypothetically speaking, what would happen if we managed to kill Gnollrek?
And also can we take a trophy like a head or a claw from permakilled demon without it disintegrating/turning into ash?
>>
>>5149493
I think "poly" is 'ok'* with a huge asterisk there. It almost never works for starters. Additionally Daitza is very much a pair bond kinda person. I don't think she'd appreciate being one of multiple. If we got more powerful, she might capitulate just to stay near Hyenus, but that would also be cruel to her.

Technically she's the one who's cheated on her husband, but Anu obviously hasn't forsaken her on that front. So it seems it wouldn't result in forsakenness... but it'd still be fucked up to mess with someone who cares about you.
>>
>>5149563

>>5149546

>>
>>5149481
There are multiple forms of love. English is a limited language in this particular respect, as it lumps what are ultimately very different forms of emotional attachments and relationships under the umbrella of the word "love." Sexual or romantic love, eros, was never the kind of love that the Abrahamic religions of our world considered virtuous (except maybe Islam) or of the principal underpinning to God's relationship with humanity -- agape and storge, fraternal/universal love and familial love, more properly define the kind of "love" intended with the idea of the Loving God, or God as Love, going back to the original Greek. Though, on the other hand, going back further there is "ahava" from the original Hebrew, which can carry connotations of sexuality and intimacy in the same way as English "love." So maybe the Old Testament God did want to fuck the Jews and be their daddy in more than the strictly paternal sense. I'm fairly sure that's not what the intent is here with how Anu has been modeled and depicted, though.
>>
I'm hoping to accept Anu a little more now that we know that Anu is a Good aligned god, which is good enough for me. I don't think he could, or would stop Hyenus from leaving his post as Anu's champion to persue his own goals to becoming a god of the Gnolls, but he would be very sad about it. Like a sad understanding dad.

All this talk about disregarding gods is sort of neat, but I'd hate to deny our boy the advantages that come with it. If Daitza is having some second thoughts about Anu, maybe we can convince her to tolerate him and his ideals more, without having her needing to commit to his teachings while overall being a nice person.
>>
>>5150093
This is a good way to look at things. Anu for now was actually not bad for us, unlike some butthurt anons here think. We chose to be his champion so let's walk that path.
>>
>>5150158
>>5150093
Correct. At least his principles are good, but he is kind of a douchebag sometimes. It’s ok to be his champion if that helps us kill demons, but actively worshipping him would be a bad idea.
>>
>>5150161
How is he even a douchebag? He doesnt like sacrifices, he likes compassion and forgiveness, his Angel's always try to make sure mortals stop yeeting themselves off the world.
>>

>>5150927
That's just part of the usual stuff that happens on quests anon, mostly because the players are bored and waiting for the QM to update, I don't mind not praying right now to please Daitza since I can understand why she's so iffy about praying to Anu after our previous "god" tried to get both of us killed but I still think we should silently pray a bit to Anu once Daitza is sleeping or something like that, not even needing to kneel just make a silently prayer after, Anu doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who demand this stuff, it looks more like dwarven hubris, we can ask Hawkodesh for more details about it later.

All followers of Anu and the Champion can permakill demons if they can use their holy powers and spells for that purpose. Permakill means that the demon doesn't return to Hell once killed, and its soul reincarnates in a mortal on the surface.
The Devils however are not conventional demons. They are the fallen sons of Anu and thus deities. What happens to them upon death will be revealed in the future, but you can inquire with Hawkodesh too if you want an earlier answer.

Hawkodesh really wishes that you commit to Anu, doesn’t he? It’s obvious given his status as an angel, but his words don’t wash away your doubts. Not a single bit…

Sure, you DID accept to be Anu’s champion, and by taking his blessing and powers you gave him influence over you one way or another – not that you were in a good place to refuse anyway-... however, none of this means you HAVE to be an actual worshipper. You didn’t kneel the first time you met him, so why would you do now? Besides, it’s not just the idea of bending the knee what bothers you. Daitza is right – praising Anu may give him free pass to take your freedom away without you even noticing… and that’s a BIG no.

Still, you also have to consider that Daitza may be exaggerating a little bit. Her intuition can be surprisingly accurate, but this often leads her to be stubborn in having things her way. Maybe she’s just paranoid after Gnolrek’s betrayal? You have to admit you are, too… but Gnolrek is not Anu. As weird as it is that he wishes to be loved like a son loves his dad, he doesn’t strike you as a god that would be okay with messing with his followers’ free will. Hell, you’re not sure if he COULD. These humielets wouldn’t be so astray from his path otherwise, right…?

Seriously, what’s the worst that could happen from sitting on your legs and saying a few words of praise for a boon? You doubt such a simple act would make you lose your Independence. This whole inner monologue you’re having seems a bit dumb when you look at it that way. Ah, what to do, what to do…

Oh well. It’s not like you can pray with Datz giving you that look from behind.

You’ve been sitting on your knees for nearly five minutes trying to decide on whether to pray or not, and you cannot waste more time. Sooner or later, you will come to a conclusion… but for now, you are not willing to do this. Simple as.

And so, you stand up, turn to your worried friend and give her a smile, accompained by rolling your eye. “Fiiiiiiine! I’m not gonna worship Anu. Happy?”

Her concerned look turns into one of surprise at your sudden decision, and the surprise soon fades into a relieved smile. “Oh, Hyeny...” She takes a deep breath. “Don’t scare me like that!”

You look at Anu’s eye on the ceiling. Somehow, you just *know* he’s observing you, so you take the chance to explain yourself to him. “Don’t take this personal, please. I just don’t feel like committing right now.” You then stare at your chest, the spot that Hawkodesh made his home. “I hope you aren’t mad at me either, bird buddy.”

“… … …” You get nothing but silence in return.

“Hawkodesh?”

… And suddenly, he speaks with a low, sad voice. “How disappointing...”

Woah! Clearly he didn't take your decision well. “Aww, man. Don’t be like that!”

“The final battle between good and evil is coming near, and you play a crucial role in its outcome..." He makes a short pause for his words to reach you. "Do you deem it wise to refuse a powerful boon from Anu only to appease a skeptical Daitza?”

“Hey, I’m not doing this for her…” No, wait. That’s a lie. “… Well, maybe just a little, but that’s not the ONLY reason. I have doubts of my own too.”

“What doubts, Hyenus? What keeps you from committing to Anu as a true follower, not just in title but in heart as well? Is it pride or fear of being manipulated again?”

“Honestly, it’s a bit of everything…” You don’t like the angel’s insistence on getting you to accept his sky dad. “Come on, you said you weren’t going to put me under pressure. Give me some time to think. This is not an easy decision, you know?”

The yellow bird remains silent for a moment, speaking shortly after with a calmer, more understanding tone. “You’re right... forgive my impatience. I can’t expect you to convert in a single day.” He takes a deep breath of air – or whatever that black void around him is. “Still, I cannot shake off the feeling that you and Daitza have important misconceptions about Anu. Keep in mind I can answer any questions you may have, and you *should* ask them. Do not doubt to do so. That’s what I’m here for - to guide you and give you spicy lore tidbits.”

You get a mental picture of him smiling. How he can do that with a beak is beyond you. “Go, boy. Sadly, you are gimping yourself by not accepting Anu’s boon, so you must train even harder to compensate for it. There is no time to waste. Do not lose sight of your goals.”

You go down the stairs and join Daitza. She lays her warm hands on your face, one on each cheek, her green eyes meeting yours. “Hyeny, listen to me...” She speaks with a soft voice, “Don’t do this for me. Do it for *yourself*, for your own freedom. Don't throw it away by giving another god too much power over you…”

“Datz, I get that you’re super cautious after Gnolrek’s betrayal, but I don’t think all gods are scheming bastards like Gnolrek. Anu is our only and most powerful ally against the demons, and doubting him too much won’t get us anywhere, I'm just saying...”

“I-I know, it’s just…” She averts her eyes off yours, struggling to explain herself. Soon, she meets your gaze again, this time with a worried look. “The conversation with the priest left me with even more questions. There are many things that don’t make sense… and stuff that worries me, too.”

“Really? Like what?”

Ask Hawkodesh questions after talking to Daitza. Why couldn't Anu help us during that court meeting? Why does he allow slavery?
>>
>>5152015
This. Ask the hard questions.
>>

>Pulled a random ass tribal, made him his champion in 5 minutes with no further explanations, got him into all the trouble
Hyenus got the maxes out potential, circumstances disallowed full disclosure becuase the world is not going to pause Fallout Style for the character to get the full lore dump, and RNG literally shat on us at one of the most critical moments.

>Demands to be treated as a father/master and be loved like a family member
I think his followers demand you worship him, but he also needs more followers because the strength of a god is slightly tied to their number of followers, and he needs more if he has a chance to not get curbed by the demons. Hes also probably really sad.

>Gave powers to the dwarves, didn’t move a finger when they started genociding everyone or got genocided
Past update posts hinted that the dwarves were originally enslaved by the humans, and Anu felt bad for them so he gave them the means to escape. His actual dwarven priests are pretty nice, but the average dwarf in the fortress is rather jaded. They need some divine intervention.

>Threw his rowdy sons (the demon gods) into an eternal prison
I dont remember if this was explained IC or OOC. If Hyenus hasnt been explained why then it's a big hmmmmm for standing towards Anu, but of Hyenus has already been given the explaination than it makes sense.

>Is the indirect cause of all the trouble, still acts as a passive observer most of the time
Probably the same reason the other gods arent as active in the affairs of mortals.

>>5151832
>go where
Acquire food for tummies! To the cafeteria!

Ask Hawkodesh about things like:
>the dominion
>why Gods in general dont do things a lot
>why Anu doesn't just kick all the demon asses
>why the slavery
>why he didnt help us out and why we're stuck with two days instead of at least a week
>are goblins demon worshipping dwarves?
>can we still retain Luna's blessings if we take in more of Anu's light?
>if no or yes, can we still be Lunas friend? You seem off put by her.

Also this >>5152115 anon's questions.
>>
>>5152122
The simping thing is what gets me, in the not so jolly way. We all like Daitza, that's something we can agree on, but shit some of us needs to stop simping for her to the point we agree with every point she makes. Especially if it's to our detriment.
Daitza needs to maybe consider Hyenus knows what hes doing. They both escaped from worshipping a shitty god, so if Hyenus decides to accept more of Anu, then that means hes taken serious consideration into taking more sun god juice.

Hyenus and Daitza will go to the Dining Hall for their lunch. On the way there, they'll talk about what she found out with the young priest. Yeenman will also keep in mind some questions for Hawkodesh >>5152115

Working on the update. This one may take me a few days to finish due to all the info packed in it, I won't post it at all once though. The conversation will be interrupted by a random encounter that I'll post either today or tomorrow
>>
>>5152703
>Yeenman
Epic.
>random encounter
Oh no.
>>
>>5152723
I live for random encounters. If you think about it, and how tism we are in the moment, it's a chance to get big or small amounts of EXP. I'm especially hoping for a speech DC challenge so we can get that dwar speech perk.
>>
>>5152791
>I LOVE RANDOM ENCOUNTERS
>Horde of lvl 30 demons pops in
I too like free xp, but a random encounter could mean anything from bark to farren.
>>
>>5152821
If we do encounter demons, we at least have 1 use of the demon purging spell, which would be a blessing in disguise because we would not only demonstrate our holy power, would would level up our power to level 2, kill demons, and impress the locals.
As stupid as it sounds, I hope a demon would jump out and try some shit with us, because at some point we need to use our power. Use it or lose it.
>>
>>5152855
Couldn’t we just do some target practice with the spell instead of looking for demons to disintegrate?
>>
>>5152858
We could, but we haven't dont that yet which gets me frustrated since this spell requires 24 hours to recharge.
I really want to up our Focus so we can learn the Sun growth spell

The meta plan:
>raise focus via TK (60-90 minutes)
>learn next tier spell, hopefully sun growth (60-90 minutes)
>learn 1 a day power restoration potion
>learn how to make MP potions
>collaborate with farmers and alchemists to make greenhouse for specific herbs
>collect herbs to use 1/day power potions and MP potions
>drink MP potions and spam growth spell
>make 1/day potions
>spam Body Restoration until we hit level 5

Fuck that One With Creation boon. Who needs double the collected herbs when you can grow double your herbs?
>>
>>5152872
Everything seems to be easy enough, except for getting someone to teach us the recipes and collaborating with the dwarves.
>>
>>5152887
Which is why I want to get that Speech Perk so bad. Talking to most dwarves too much like pulling teeth without anesthetics, so getting a perk that makes it easier to deal with them would be ideal for asking them for favors, deals, or learning alchemical recipes.

Hyenus knows that there was a Bloodthirst potion that gives a Bloodseeker additional uses of their one a day Bloodthirst power, which should be a good enough reason to connect t the dots and ask the alchemist if he knows a potion recipe for Feral Speed, Light of Anu, and Body Restoration. We shouldn't automatically assume he would give us the recipes for free let alone make it for us, which is why we (and Bark) needs to collect a surplus of ingredients to bribe the Alchemist with.

I got this all planned out. I got a spread sheet and everything, I just need to make notes on the random encounters, and that one phenominine mentioned in that dwarf guard's journey about spooky hallways.

Autism anon, I request your knowledge.
Do we have enough MP to spare on healing that bandaged up dwarf.
He seemed alright, and directly healing a dwarf may get us in good graces.
If so I reckon we should heal him up after doing our business in the Dining Hall.
Plus we kind of indirectly promised him we'd come back to heal him and I feel bad.

From Anu himself? No, at least not to any dwarf's knowledge.

Uh I dont know man. We have enough for two uses which would heal 40 HP, but we cant heal any crippling injuries if he has any, but we might need those two heals when we visit the abandoned mines to visit Luna.

A change of diet is not as health threatening to beastfolk as it would be to their feral counterparts, they can all technically lead an omnivorous lifestyle. That includes consumption of onions. However their bodies will experience constant weakness due to not following their natural diets (an herbivorous gnoll would be rather weak, same for meat-eating deerfolk)
.
All in all, your peak diet would be to eat all sorts of meats. You can omit vegetables, they're not needed for gnolls.

“Hmph… y’know, I’m rather curious about this ‘Anu’. Your god is supposedly the creator of everything that exists, right?”

“Y-yes. He is the one and true God, the Consoler and Bringer of Light. Anu is all powerful, all encompassing, and it is Him who created Aurus and all creatures in it.”

“Why?”

"Why...? Because of love, Daitza. Anu made us so He could share His infinite love with His creation.”

“Love, huh? Then why did he create the Devils? To make his creation suffer? It makes no sense… unless he’s NOT really a loving go-”

“Anu did not create them. The Devils became who they are out of their own volition."

“Before they turned into cruel gods of evil who spread pain and chaos across the world, they were Dominions, the divine sons of Anu born of His union with Antum, the Moon Mother. They-“

“Hang on! Dominions? Antum? Can you go a biiit slower, please?”

“Oh! Sorry. Umm, how do I put this… you see, prior to the creation of the world, Anu made Antum, who we all know as the Moon. Yes, that giant white sphere we see on the night sky is, in fact, Her holy aura.”

“Wait, so… the Moon is a woman? And the Sun is her husband Anu?”

“Exactly! Isn’t it beautiful?”

“It’s… it’s weird. Really weird."

"To our mortal minds, yes... but I find it comforting in a way that they watch over us all the time, Protecting us. Guiding us."

"If you say so. How do you dwarves know all this stuff?”

“Ah, that one is easy to answer. You see, many historical figures have interacted with angel messengers in the past, and Anu Himself enlightens the holiest of men with His wisdom and knowledge. It's all recorded in our books."

"Uh-huh... I see. Anyway, back to the Dominions..."

"Okay, where was I... ah, yes. Anu made Antum His wife, and the Moon Mother conceived seven children over a span of seven thousand years. In order of birth, the siblings were Akasha, Ug’Drunuth, Dagon, Gnolrek, Xarzar, Gaia… and Ha-“
