You are Blair d’Rusalka. Student at the Garreg Mach Officer’s Academy, Dark Flier, and an Officer of the Black Eagles House. You were sent to the Academy by your guardian, Count Charles d’Rusalka, to undergo training and become a Knight in his service. After attending the White Heron Ball and experiencing your first kiss, what should have been a calm and relaxing end to the school year was turned upside down. Monica, a fellow student at the academy, reveals herself to be in-league with Solon and the same group that attacked Remire Village.

She kidnapped your friends Martha and Xavier and lured you into a trap. After toying with you for days, she left you for dead at the hands of a Demonic Beast. You were saved by the timely intervention of Corrine and Kate, but unfortunately, Monica’s twisted schemes had cost Martha and Xavier their lives.

Returning to the Monastery with vengeance on your mind, you are heartened to hear that Monica’s whereabouts have been located. The traitor is hiding nearby, in a place known as the Sealed Forest. While she’s likely waiting to spring another trap, nothing will stop you from taking her down. You join a strike force of Black Eagles students, led by Professor Byleth, intent on bringing Monica to justice.

>“Thank you, everyone. We’ll see this through, for Martha and Xavier.” You put your hand out towards your friends. Ashe, Corrine and Kate place theirs on top of yours. With your friends pledging their support behind you, you’re surer than ever that Monica doesn’t stand a chance.

The Sealed Forest is but a short distance away from the Monastery. Had you headed out with the usual entourage from the Knights of Seiros and the Church, it would have taken you far longer to arrive at your destination. However, the force you’ve joined numbers around only 20, all of them volunteers from the Black Eagles. At the helm of the group is Professor Byleth. Monica’s actions cost the Professor her father, and you can only imagine that your teacher is even more eager than you are to bring the girl down. After half a day’s brisk march, you find yourself at your destination.

“We are now within the Sealed Forest.” Hubert announces. “No one let their guard down. If the intel we received is accurate, Monica is further ahead, with an unidentified group.”

“Blair? Can you take to the skies and give us an aerial view of what we’re up against?” The Professor asks you

>You nod to the Professor and take flight on Beathan. High above, you can make out a clearing further ahead in the forest. You move closer to it, taking care to avoid any oncoming arrows from any enemy archers that may spot you. Sure enough, as you get closer, you’re able to spot figures further down below. It’s hard to make out too much from detail from the skies, but there’s about twelve humanoid looking figures milling about down below. What catches your eyes though, are the larger blobbed shapes you see. There’s three of them, and if you had to guess, they’re likely Demonic Beasts. You return back to the others and inform them of what you saw.

“I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised she has more of those things with her.” Edelgard says with a hint of distaste. “Likely made from those unfortunate to have run into her after she fled. This stops now. Black Eagles, get ready to move out!”

After a bit of preparation and checking over your gear, the strike force makes their way into the Sealed Forest, towards the clearing Monica and her cronies are currently inhabiting. As you all inch closer, Monica’s voice booms and echoes through the forest, propelled by the same type of magic Bishop Santiago used during a battle that feels like a lifetime ago.

“Hello! You’re here!” Monicas voice cries cheerfully. Your clench your fist at the sound. “Welcome to my forest of death! It’s so good of you to stop by!”

“Monica! Get out here!” The Professor yells.

“Sorry, but that’s not my name. I simply borrowed this weakling’s look. My real name is Kronya! And for the short amount of time you have left, don’t forget it!”

“Kronya?” Dorothea mutters. “So, it’s just like how Solon was pretending to be Tomas. Just what the hell is going on?”

“Don’t know, don’t care. We can get out answers after we kill these bastards.” Caspar declares.

>“The forest up ahead is thick, but there’s two ways to get to where Moni-uhh…Kronya…is standing. We can cut either through the north or west. Either way, we’ll have to contend with the Demonic Beasts.” You inform the Professor and Edelgard.

“We’ll go north, while covering our rear.” The Professor says. “No use in standing around waiting to get pincered. Blair, you’re our aerial bombardment. Rain down your magic from above while we engage. Choose your targets carefully and watch out for the enemy snipers. Otherwise, fire at will.”

>“Understood!”

You take flight and survey the battlefield. There are snipers on both sides it seems, and either one could likely take you out in one shot if you aren’t careful. As the Black Eagles begin to move, you think on what your first action will be.

A well-placed arrow from an experienced archer is enough to bring down even the most seasoned of Pegasus Knights. Narrowing your eyes ahead and fixating on your target, you resolve to not allow the foe the opportunity. Unsheathing the stave strapped to your back, you call forth a surge of magic. You’d only practiced the incantations for Bolting, but you’ve yet to have the opportunity to try out the destructive spell. Clouds form from on up high, and an ominous, rumbling sound echoes across the forest. Ordinarily, flying a Pegasus during a thunderstorm would be a foolhardy endeavor, but you’re the one in control here. Raising your hand to the sky and focusing all of your attention on the speck you’ve chosen in the distance, you summon forth a bolt of lightning from on high, that shoots forward towards the doomed archer.

As the bolt descends from the sky towards your target, the enemy scrambles to get out of the way. While your target’s compatriots are successful, the archer himself is less than so. A loud boom and an explosion are the signs that the spell was a success. Dust is kicked up on-high, and a large crater is left in the earth where the spell made contact.

>Critical Hit! 20xp gained! (30/100) (Bolting: 1 / 2)

You take note of your work. Bolting is a rarity amongst combat mages. The spell is only taught to those with top marks from either the Officer’s Academy or the Fhirdiad Academy of Sorcery, under the tutelage of a skilled mage such as Professor Hanneman. Whoever these bastards were, they would soon learn what it meant to go up against elite caliber Black Eagles.

From down below, your allies charge forward, Edelgard and Professor Byleth leading the way as the vanguard against the Demonic Beast up front. The beast is the same type as the one you saw back at the Chapel, likely turned from another human. While it appears ferocious, it struggles to keep up with an enraged Professor, doubly so when she’s wielding the Sword of the Creator. She singlehandedly occupies the beast, while the students behind her pepper it with ranged attacks and work on dealing with the strange, black-armored men accompanying it.

From the west, the enemy begins making their way towards the Black Eagles. You have the option to pepper them up with some magic before they contact your backline. You’re certainly feeling confident after that Bolting. Alternatively, you can focus on what’s ahead of you. Besides the enemy’s your friends are currently engaged with, you have a feeling that there may me an ambush waiting further ahead.

“Blair? Was that you? You seem mad…is everything okay?” Kronya's mocking voice calls out.

The Demonic Beast is on its last legs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help send it to hell. Channeling forth another burst of magic, you summon another thunderstrike towards the large target. The spell doesn’t carry as much weight or power as your Bolting did, but from this high up and against an already wounded foe, its more than enough to finish off the beast. As it reels on its hind legs from a blow received by the Professor’s hand, your spell connects, frying the beast and putting an end to it.

>40xp gained! (70/100) (Thunder: 4 / 5)

The Black Eagles finish off the remainder of the enemy they were engaged with, just in time for the ones charging in on the west side to connect with them. The second Demonic Beast crashes in first, being held off by the combined strength of Caspar, Corrine and Ferdinand. Behind it, four more armed men are making their way towards them, one of whom is another Sniper. Finally, taking the rear is a third Demonic Beast, snarling all the way.

“Are you all still hanging back there? Ugh, honestly! If this takes too long, I might be forced to escape!” Kronya’s voice echoes through the forest. “Or are you too scared to come back here and face me? Well don’t worry, I have no intention of letting any of you leave this forest alive!”

What an annoying bitch. You know Kronya is up north, flanked by two soldiers, but it would be far too dangerous to go up ahead and take her out yourself. Additionally, there’s still the possibility that there are hidden troops within the forest area. You’ve been given the order to fire at will. How do you proceed from here?

This whole thing has trap written all over it, and you’re painfully aware of how devious that woman can be. Your friends can handle themselves for the time being. You begin moving forward, flying over the forest in front of you and peering below, looking out for any movement. For a while you don’t see anything, until suddenly, an arrow bursts out of the trees, only narrowly missing Beathan by a hair. Pulling your steed up further in the sky, you glance down at where the arrow came from, noticing activity below by the trees. It looks like your feeling paid off, Kronya was indeed looking to set an ambush.

You glance towards where your friends are currently fighting. Professor Byleth has managed to badly wound the second Demonic Beast, allowing your comrades to deal with the enemy infantry. Whoever these bastards are, they’re tough. Despite being outnumbered, they’re able to hold their own against the best of the Black Eagles. While your comrades should be able to get through them in theory, the presence of these ambush soldiers may complicate matters.

Getting to the ground to warn the Professor about the oncoming soldiers is one option, though given the current circumstances and how close the enemy is, you may not make it in time. Suddenly though, a thought grips your head. An idea you had from one of the many classes on battlefield strategy you’ve taken. Using the fire magic that you’re able to conjure, you may be able to partially set the forest below you ablaze, stifling the enemy ambush soldiers. With the right touch, timing and quantity of magic, you may be able to seriously damage, if not outright kill them, while limiting any collateral damage.

If you mess up though, you may just set fire to the entire Sealed Forest.

“How are you guys doing over there? Still alive?” Kronya calls out. “Don’t give up before I get to have my own fun!”

You focus intently on the forest below you. You can make out the shadow of the enemy within, moving together in one cohesive unit. Now that you’ve discovered them, they likely intend to crash against the Black Eagles main forces before you can give off a warning. Unfortunately for them, they’re far too late. Gathering up the magic necessary, you summon two fireballs, circling the tip of your staff. You infuse them with the necessary energy but are careful not to go overboard. You’re attempting a controlled burn, not a forest fire, after all. The sniper below doesn’t bother you during this endeavor, allowing you the preparation and precision you need to ensure you don’t mess this up. Once you’re ready, you launch the fireballs towards your target, intent on sending the enemy below to hell.

The twin fireballs collide down into the forest with a large explosion. The magic infusing the fire, combined with the woods below, will ensure a steady and powerful blaze that will engulf those below, but not spread out to the surrounding forest where your friends are. You’re too far high in the sky to hear anything resembling screams, but watching the flames below, you’re certain you hit your mark. As you hover above the forest admiring your handiwork, sure enough, two bodies emerge from the tree line. Both look badly burnt, and don’t appear to have any of their friends joining them.

At the front of the fighting, the second Demonic Beast lays dead on the ground, with the third currently being worked on by the Professor. You’d heard that before she became a teacher, during her time as a mercenary, she was known as the Ashen Demon. Watching her fighting from above, you get where the name comes from. The enemy is being pushed back, and a squad of Black Eagles, composed of Petra, Lindhardt, Corrine, Caspar and Ferdinand are now moving further into the forest, towards where Kronya is waiting.

“Thank you for the fire. It will serve well to burn your corpses after we’re finished here.” Kronya taunts.

Those students are heading straight towards Kronya, and you’re not going to miss your chance to get a piece of her. The way she’s fighting, the Professor should require no additional help when it comes to wiping out the enemy in front of her. You join the unit of Black Eagles, providing them cover from above.

“Oh, I’m glad SOMEONE finally made it up here!” Kronya says. “You aren’t the ones I was hoping for, but a little warm-up wouldn’t hurt. Well, who am I kidding? It’s gonna hurt you a whole lot!”

>“Goddess, she never shuts up.” You say to no one in particular. Flanking her are two nasty looking mages, clad in robes that reveal nothing of their identity. Just who the hell are these guys? As your group nears the enemy, the two mages begin making their way towards you. While one seems focused on the five Black Eagles up ahead, the other turns his attention towards you. Couldn’t expect to go unscathed forever, you suppose.

The mage turns his hands up towards you, and from them, a swarm of flies seem to spontaneously appear out of thin air around you. The bloodsucking creatures do their best to devour you and Beathan, painfully latching on to the both of you.

(Enemy: 20+4=24 Mag – 16 Res = 8 DMG, Blair 39/47 HP, -5 SPD for one Turn)

Gritting your teeth, you conjure flames to burn the creatures off, before retaliating with your own magic, launching two fireballs at the cloaked figure. Both spells connect with the man, who seemingly shrugs off the magic with his superior resistance. Before he can counterattack though, his head is split in by the timely appearance of Caspar. You notice your friends have already dealt with the other mage. Kronya meanwhile, has stayed still in the back, watching disinterestedly.

>10 XP gained! (50/100)

Your friends face Kronya, weapons brandished, but none of them move in for the attack. You get a good look at the woman who was masquerading as Monica for the first time. She looks human…but not quite. There’s something remarkably uncanny about her. Whether it’s her skin color, which is far paler than you’ve ever seen on another human, or the strange material her outfit seems to be made of, there’s something odd about her. Odd, and extremely dangerous. You got a firsthand taste at how quick and deadly the girl was back at the Abandoned Chapel, but seeing her now, you get the feeling she’s far worse than she was letting on.

“So, who’s first?” She asks.

>“Don’t engage! Stay on your guard and fall back!” You yell to your comrades, flying closer to the ground to back up your friends. While they currently have Kronya surrounded, none of them seem to go in and to make the first move. As they begin taking small steps back, Kronya moves forward.

“What, don’t tell me you’re getting cold feet?” Kronya says. At her side is a wickedly sharp, curved dagger, which appears to be made from a familiar looking black material you know all too well. “If that’s the case, I’ll just come to you!”

Kronya moves with that same blinding speed you recall from before. Had any of your friends turned their back to run from her, they’d have barely made it a few steps before being skewered. Fortunately, they heeded your words, and were able to dig in to ready themselves for the girl’s reckless rush forward. Kronya clashes blades with Petra and Ferdinand first. Despite outnumbering her, it takes all their skill just to block her attacks. You haven’t seen anyone, not even the Professor, move quite as fast as this woman.

“Out of the way!” Caspar yells, swinging his axe in an overhead strike, only to hit the ground Kronya was just standing on.

“Too slow!” Blocking a stab from Petra with her dagger, she uses her free leg to acrobatically kick Caspar in the face, sending the boy reeling. She continues to trade blows with Petra, pushing the Brigid Princess on the defensive. Ferdinand attempts to join the fray again, but in a move that you’re only barely able to catch with your eye, Ferdinand falls to the ground in a heap, clutching a bloody wound in his stomach. As he falls, Corrine takes his place, helping to keep Petra from being overwhelmed.

“This isn’t good, Ferdinand’s hurt bad!” Linhardt exclaims. “Blair! You need to pull him out of there before he bleeds out!”

Easier said than done. This is already turning into quite the mess. But Linhardt is right, if you don’t act now, someone is going to die for sure. Kronya won’t just let you drag the boy out though. If you’re too slow, you’ll put yourself in harm’s way.

Beathan launches forward, towards the unconscious figure of Ferdinand. While in the middle of fighting her opponents, Kronya manages to catch what you’re doing out of the corner of your eye and disengages from her foes.

“Not so fast!” She dashes towards your goal, intent on cutting you off. With her dagger outstretched, she attempts to finish the job she started on the boy. Despite her impressive speed though, this time she’s just a second short. You scoop Ferdinand and then shoot upwards in a mad flight, just as her dagger comes down where the boy was laying.

>10xp gained! (50/100)

“Eughhhh…” You hear Ferdinand groan on Beathan’s back.

>“Hang on! We’ll get you patched up.” You reassure him, as you land directly in front of Lindhardt and help the boy off. Lindhardt wastes no time in summoning the white magic at his disposal, rapidly closing the wound Ferdinand received. As you turn back to where Kronya is, she’s once again being pushed back by the combined forces of Petra and Corrine, as well as Caspar, who’s recovered from the blow that he took earlier. Despite outnumbering her three to one though, they’re clearly struggling to keep up.

>“Will you two be alright here?”

“We should be fine, but they won’t if you don’t get in there and do something!” Lindhardt responds.

He doesn’t need to tell you twice. You’ve been dreaming about nothing but paying Kronya back for weeks. She’s finally right in front of you, and you have no intention of backing down. She may be tougher and faster than all of you, but you’ve fought with those three students closely for a year now and developed a deep bond with them. Working together, even Kronya would be unable to stand against a unified front. Spurring Beathan towards the Assassin, you prepare to launch a unison attack on her.

Kronya has been battling with your friends for some time now, each of whom are sporting some sort of cut or wound. Kronya herself meanwhile, has yet to be even touched by their blows. A fact that you seek to change as you rush headlong to join the fray. Unsheathing your Silver Lance, you extend it out to catch the woman. While she is backstepping out of the way of a vicious slash from Caspar, she catches you out of the corner of her eye. She’s able to dodge the boy with no problem, but she finds herself in for a rude awakening when it comes to you. Your spear tip connects with her hand. She attempts to move the weapon away, but is unsuccessful, and the blade pierces right through.

>34 ATK + 5 Lancefaire + 4 Fiery Blood – 22 DEF = 21 DMG. Kronya: 51/72 HP)

The woman screams as she clutches her hand, snarling in your direction. “Very sneaky, Blair! Let’s see how you like it!”

Dashing forward, she jumps at the last second towards you before you can get out of the way or raise your weapon in defense, delivering a slash to your shoulder.

>Crit Roll: Miss!
>33 ATK – 16 DEF = 17 DMG. Blair: 22/47 HP)

>15 XP Gained! (65/100)

Gritting your teeth as the blood flows freshly out of your wound, you try stabbing at Kronya again, who dances in and out of the way of your spear.

“Pathetic! It’s no wonder you couldn’t save your friends!” She taunts you. “You’ll just have to apologize to them yourselves when you get to-“

Whether because she feels rage from you having managed to hurt her, or whether it’s because she’s a sadist, Kronya is entirely focused on you. Dodging and clashing with your spear has consumed all her attention, enough for your battered friends to surround her. Kronya is none the wiser when she suddenly finds herself battering rammed by a combined strike from Caspar and Corrine. The two of them send the woman flying to land hard on the ground away from you. As she struggles to get up, Petra is already on top of her, delivering a flurry of brutal stabs to the body. She gets several hits in, before being kicked off by Kronya.

“D-damn it! You think you’re clever, don’t you?” Kronya seethes, clutching her various wounds.

“She’s still standing. Just what the hell is she?!” An exasperated Corrine asks.

“Whatever she is, she’s badly hurt! This is our chance to finish her off!” Caspar yells, as he charges in.

“Caspar! Wait!” You yell, but it’s too late.

Shouting a battle cry, Caspar raises his axe prepared to finish off the wounded Kronya. Before he can make contact though, you catch a smirk on the woman’s face as she slides underneath his outstretched strike, wrapping an arm around the boy’s neck and turning him around to face you. At his neck lies Kronya’s sharp dagger, ready to strike.

>Kronya activates Vantage (When under attack, strike first if HP is below 50%)

“No sudden moves! Drop your weapons now, and this little brat may just get to live!” Kronya shouts.

“Don’t listen to he-!” Caspar calls out to you, but Kronya chokes him off. Using her dagger, she draws a thin line across his neck, releasing a trickle of blood.

“Hurry up! And make your decision!”

“Blair…what to do?” A worried Petra asks.

oh shit oh fuck
>A): Drop your weapons
Okay, we have magic and a pegasus, so even without our weapons we could still like ram into her IF she releases Caspar, that's an idea I have but i'm hoping to hear other ones.
>>
>>5243531
Thunder attacks from above, so it should mostly hit Kronya and not Caspar if we casted it. Bolting might also work purely from a grid/game standpoint, but since Kronya is holding him, I think Caspar will take at least some damage either way. There still is the issue of if Kronya's vantage would activate for her to kill Caspar, but since we're attacking her and not Caspar, it might not.
>>
>>5243467
>B): Try to buy time for the Professor to arrive. (What do you do/say?)
Prepare to cast bolting. She just made herself very stationary and thus an easy target, and we should make her *very* aware of that. I don't trust for a second she won't try to slit Caspar's throat as she makes to escape, but if we can put full attention on ourselves it opens up for someone to flank her while we have our standdown.
>>
>>5243467
>>A): Drop your weapons
I don't know what words we could say to stop or distract her.

>“Drop your weapons.” You say, reluctantly. Your Silver Lance falls to the floor with a clatter. Corrine and Petra stare at you, slow to react, before following suit and dropping their weapons as well. Both of them look worse for wear and ready to collapse. “Let him go!”

Kronya remains where she stands, holding Caspar by the throat. For a second it seems as though she’s ready to comply, but instead, she tightens her grip on his throat. “Honestly, how stupid are you?” She asks, flashing you a dark grin. “You’re about to lose another fri-“

Something quick flies over your shoulder and straight towards Kronya, faster than your eye can keep up. The Sword of the Creator firmly hits its target into the woman’s shoulder, sending her flying back with a scream. Kronya is planted firmly in the ground, while the Heroes Relic retracts itself back to its source.

“Never drop your weapon, Blair. In situations such as these, you’d be willingly throwing away your only advantage.” Professor Byleth says. The Professor is covered in blood, though from what you can gather, none of it is hers. “And as for you, Caspar. I thought I’d instructed you far better than this. Allowing yourself to be captured by the enemy? When we get back to Garreg Mach, you can count on an impromptu lesson.”

“Professor!” Caspar yells, running over to distance himself from the Assassin. “I-I owe you one.”

“Stand aside, students. You’ve done well. Leave the rest to me.” The Professor begins walking closer towards her downed opponent, the Sword of the Creator clutched firmly in her hand. As she approaches the enemy, Kronya jumps up at the last second, attempting one final surprise strike on the Professor. Her attack is devastatingly swift, but the Professor blocks it with seemingly no effort. The desperate Assassin unleashes a barrage of attacks from every direction, each one blocked with a resounding clang. Finally, the Professor lets loose a brutal kick to her midsection, sending her once again sprawling to the ground, where she struggles to get up.

“I…don’t understand? How could I really lose…to lowly creatures such as you?” Kronya asks herself. There remains very little of the devious and sadistic woman who tortured you just a month ago. In her place is a broken and frightened girl. One who is doing her best to appear as small as possible and inch away from the Professor.

“You’re not like them…Just what the hell are you?!” She screams at the Professor, before making a quick break into the forest, where she attempts to flee. Without a word and wasting no time, the Professor follows suit and takes chase after her.

>“I’m going to follow her. Take care of your wounds and catch up.” You tell your friends. You hear Corrine shout at you to be careful as you and Beathan head deeper into the Sealed Forest. The forest ahead of you is somewhat hard to navigate. Thick branches block your path, and very little sunlight seems to be breaking through. As you’re riding, you notice what look like ruins, scattered throughout the woods. Much like Zanado, the Sealed Forest is forbidden ground, guarded closely by the Church. You’re not sure what these ruins might be, but they make you uneasy.

You’re able to easily follow the path the Professor and Kronya trampled through and can sense a commotion further up ahead. You ride forward alone for a few moments, before finally seeing an exit further up ahead. As you burst through, you find more ruins. A large stone section is up ahead, with four damaged pillars at each corner. Standing in the center, you find both the Professor and Kronya, as well as a third figure. You’d only seen the man briefly, back at Remire Village, but you instantly recognize him. Solon. The man that was masquerading as Garreg Mach’s librarian, is standing right behind Kronya. No one has seemed to notice you where you stand.

“Have no fear, Kronya. Your sacrifice will help to rid this world of the filthy vermin that have long infested it.” Solon says. To your shock, he then plunges his hand through Kronya’s chest. You’d had thought the two to be working together, but from what you just saw, the dark mage just killed his comrade with no hesitation. You hoist your spear and ready yourself to back up your teacher when something strange happens. The four pillars you noticed earlier become engulfed in some sort of black fire, which quickly spreads through the perimeter, blocking your path. At least, it looks like fire. The “flames” give off no heat, instead chilling you to the bone. You can’t see anything through them and lose sight of both Solon as well as the Professor. As you try to look past the flames, all you see is darkness. A pure empty void that leaves you with a feeling of terror and dread you’ve never experienced before.

“The time has finally come…to unleash the Forbidden Spell of Zahras upon our enemies!” You hear Solon yell through the darkness. The flames churn and spin, extending inwards towards where you saw the Professor standing. Just as quickly as they appeared, they suddenly dissipate, giving you a full view of the stone floor. Only this time, neither the Professor nor Kronya are present. Solon stands alone, arms raised.

“Begone with you…Fell Star!”

You sense something from behind and turn to find that several of the Black Eagles have caught up with you.

“Blair! Are you alright?” Edelgard asks. “What was that magic we saw? Where is the Professor?!”

“You fools!” Solon shouts, pointing in your direction. “She was swallowed by the Forbidden Spell of Zahras! This is sacred ground, where the line between this world and that of our Gods is thin. That disgusting woman… your ‘Fell Star’, charged in like a reckless beast. Now she will spend an eternity wandering in the void of darkness, never to return to this world!”

“You’re lying!” Dorothea shouts. “She wouldn’t die so easily to a creep like you!”

Solon laughs. “The Forbidden Spell of Zahras forms a darkness that consumes all. Not even the Sword of the Creator can stand against its power. And with the Fell Star gone, nothing will stop us from ridding the world of you lesser creatures!”

Caspar growls. “Just what the hell is this bastard talking about?!”

“Ready yourselves for battle.” Hubert says. “It appears our former librarian did not come alone.”

>Elixir -1

Uncorking an Elixir on your belt, you pour the contents onto the wounds you received earlier during your fight with Kronya. Instantly, the pain vanishes, and the wounds close with hardly any evidence they were there in the first place. An expensive healing item to be sure, but definitely worth the price you paid for it. Further ahead, you can see several new enemies have appeared, dressed in the same garb as those you fought earlier. With them are an additional two Demonic Beasts. Solon, much like Kronya and Alena, seems to be able to summon and command these creatures. If hurting your Professor wasn’t enough reason to put this fiend to death, his practice of this vile art is.

“Stick together!” Edelgard yells, attempting to take control of the situation. “Focus on the small fry first, then take out the Demonic Beasts!”

In front of you, two vicious looking mounted cavaliers are charging towards your front line. With Ferdinand down for the count still, your group is unable to intercept them, and they hit both Edelgard and Caspar hard. Behind them, a Warrior is charging straight towards you, and a Sniper is looming dangerously in the background, ready to take down you or Kate should you take flight. Two hulking armored soldiers are also lumbering closer.

On your side, Petra and Corrine rush into aid their allies, while Hubert, Bernadetta and Dorothea attempt to engage the enemy from range. Aware of the Sniper on the enemy’s side, Kate stays put, looking to you for guidance.

“Struggle all you like! Without the Sword of the Creator at your side, you are doomed to fail!” Solon yells.

“I don’t know what him and Kronya are supposed to be, but they sure are full of themselves.” Dorothea comments.

Solon stands alone in the midst of the ruins, watching the carnage unfold. If you and Kate can manage to fly ahead and take him out, you may be able to end the battle in one-go.

You make up your mind quickly. While that Sniper is on the field, your mobility, as well as Kate’s is cut drastically. If anyone has got to go first, it’s him. The others can deal with those cavaliers in the meantime. You relay your plan to Kate, who nods along.

“Tell me who to hit, and they’re dead.” She says.

>Kate is assisting you, attacking any target you attack.

You can only use your Bolting spell one more time, so you decide to make it count. Summoning the magic within you, you once again bring forth heavy storm clouds that darken the area. Feeling the power welling up inside you, you let loose a torrent of magical energy, directing the bolt outward. To your side, you feel a gust of wind as Kate launches upwards into the air. Your target settled, the lightning shoots past your allies and the front line of the enemy’s forces, some of whom duck out of the way. The hapless Sniper is unable to react in time and is blasted directly by the siege magic. While you’re unable to kill him in one shot like you had done previously, he’s badly hurt. Before he can recover, a shadow from above engulfs him. The man looks up to see Kate making a divebomb towards him, her spear cutting him down the middle. As swiftly as she made her descent, she then shoots back upwards, away from the Demonic Beast and armored soldier.

>10 XP Gained! (75/100)

With the Sniper dealt with, you should have free reign to take flight without having to worry about being picked off by the enemy’s arrows. The enemy’s cavaliers, meanwhile, have been bogged down trying to break through Edelgard and Caspar’s superior defenses. The Paladin engaging Caspar retreats after sustaining damage. The one fighting Edelgard attempts to do the same, however before he can, Hubert summon forth powerful dark magic the likes of which you have yet to see. Dozens of dark spikes materialize around the Paladin before they all instantaneously swarm their target. The man and his horse explode in a large chunk of gore, unable to withstand the devastatingly effective dark magic Hubert employed.

The rest of the enemy inches closer, ready to collide fully with your frontline. Both Demonic Beasts are chomping at the bits to devour your friends. They look as tough as the ones you saw earlier, but without the effective might of the Sword of the Creator, taking these down won’t be as simple of a task.

We can't let the Beasts get into melee completely untouched, and Blair is a Harrier, so this is her job!
I chose #2 because it would use up most of Kate's movement to get to #3, and for fliers the ability to move away is the best defense. 2 is also on the weaker flank, so if we can clear it away sooner then the Black Eagles can come together as a single unit sooner

Without the Sword of the Creator, you lack your best asset against the Demonic Beasts. But you carry something that’s almost as good. Switching to your Blessed Lance, you aim to take out the Demonic Beast on the left side before it can reach your friends. Pointing out your target to Kate, she offers no protest, hoisting her spear. Goddess bless that girl. Her dependability and faith in your orders is second to none. The two of you descend onto the beast, which is currently lumbering forward single mindedly towards Edelgard. Before it can get there, you strike at it from the front with your Blessed Lance.

Last time you used this weapon, it was against the Demon in Akzeriuth. That Demonic Beast was of a much larger, bulkier and harder stock than the ones you’ve seen Kronya and Solon employ. Your lance, which burned a large hole in the Demon, manages to blow a large chunk of this lesser creature’s head clean off with a single thrust. Gore burns brightly on the spear’s tip, burning intensely.

(Demonic Beast: -30 HP, 70/100)

The beast lets out a pained roar and turns to face you, just in time for Kate to descend with her own attack. Though she lacks the same effective weapon that you possess, she accurately hits the wound you left behind, deepening it.

(Demonic Beast: -10 HP, 60/100)

The creature turns again, this time to face Kate. You’ve fought these abominations enough to know that while they possess fearsome might, they retain little of the intelligence that they possessed when they were human. With its back to you, you follow up with another attack, this time burning through its right side with your holy spear.

(Demonic Beast: -30 HP, 30/100)

Predictably, the creature turns towards you again, in a rage. Opening its mouth, you brace yourself for the usual flame attack, when instead, a purple miasma flows freely from its mouth. You’re unable to get out of the way in time, and while your resistances towards magic are high, you still suffer some harm.

Your muscles seize and burn momentarily while you grasp Beathan’s reins. You feel weak, and have some difficulty breathing, but now is no time to rest. The armored soldier that was accompanying the Beast, finding himself unable to harm either you or Kate, charged into the Black Eagles, where he was promptly fried in his armor by Dorothea. With his death and the Demonic Beast distracted, the rest of the Black Eagles can focus on mopping up the enemies on the right side. It looks like the battle is turning in your favor. Suddenly, Solon speaks.

“Feeble humans! Know not who you stand against? You face Solon, one of the Seven Sages of Agartha! Against the ancient magics at my disposal, you shall fall!”

Darkness swells within the stone square Solon stands upon, rising higher as he lifts his arms towards the sky. Extending his arms outward, he launches a massive wave of magic forward. Impossible to dodge, you find yourself engulfed by the wave, as does everyone else on the battlefield, including Solon’s own allies.

The Black Eagles, meanwhile, have done an effective job of mopping up the remaining enemies. While they suffered damage from Solon’s attack, they’ve effective managed to isolate the remaining Demonic Beast, and are currently in the middle of whittling it down. You mull your next course of action, when you see the same dark magic as before, swelling up around Solon.

“You still stand?! Kneel before the unbridled power of a superior being!” Solon yells, as the energy surrounding him rises to the sky once more.

You’ve never heard of a mage being ale to use such powerful magic, let alone in succession as he has. Just what in the Goddess’ name is he? You brace yourself and hold on to Beathan tight, expecting another barrage, when suddenly something unusual happens. Directly in front of where Solon is standing, what can only be described as a tear in reality has suddenly appeared in the sky. Bright red, and pulsating, your eyes are drawn to the phenomenon. Solon as well, stares at the strange occurrence in shock, the magic that he was previously commanding dissipating as he looks on. A loud, ripping sound occurs, as the tear becomes larger, reaching down now towards the ground. Once it lands, a figure leaps out of it, standing directly face to face with the Dark Mage.

“That’s…” Kate begins, staring down at the same thing you are. “The Professor…?”

>“She’s alive?!” You exclaim. You weren’t sure what sort of magic Solon had used to make the Professor vanish, but you’re beyond heartened to see that your teacher is back in one piece.

You examine the scene from up top as closely as you can. The figure that emerged from the tear is most certainly the Professor. She’s even brandishing the Sword of the Creator. While you can’t immediately tell from where you are in the sky though, something about her appears…different.

“I believe the Professor intends to deal with Solon alone. What shall we do?” Asks Kate.

blair has a blessed lance and there are healers right there
like
multiple healers
who blair is friends with
good friends with.
there's like eight people beating up on this beast it's super dead.
I understand caution but there's no need for it. she literally only needs like 10 hp, the weakest healing will do.

like, the blessed lance heals her. it didn't happen last turn for some reason but it literally does so in the game and when Catherine handed it to her she said 'it has healing properties'
blair does not need to heal, her lance will take care of it

we're on chapter 10 in the game. the enemies are at a level in between the hard and maddening difficulty levels, and generally the player is lower level than the enemies they face, so I'd say she's on pace, or maybe slightly overleveled.
but there are a few differences from the game. for example, kronya had more than 70 HP this chapter. in the game she has like 40. beasts in the original game have completely different mechanics, and solon never casts special magic except in cutscenes.
so it's probably best to take the game part of the quest as 'inspired by' rather than a good analog for the game, since tree has lovingly shifted things around to fit questing better, and continues to pay attention to keeping it functional, especially since crests/relics are a bigger deal in 3HQ than in 3H and Blair is crestless. we're likely to fall off a little as our classmates get their special bonuses rolling, at least in terms of being a beatstick, so it's important that Blair's got capabilities outside fighting.
(her spell-list is so good! Bolting was perfect here. but in the future there will probably be more snipers than we have charges...)

>“That freak is on an entirely different level. If the Professor wants to take him on, she’s more than welcome to. Let’s finish off the small fry.” You tell Kate. Flying over to where the rest of the Black Eagles are currently embroiled in battle, you find only the Demonic Beast left, already on its last legs. Swiping and thrashing around erratically, it fails to notice you and Kate divebomb it. The Blessed Lance makes short work of the wounded creature, and it topples as easily as the first.

“Blair! Status report! Where is Solon?” Edelgard asks.

>“He’s further up ahead, fighting the Professor.”

“She’s alive?! Quickly everyone, charge forward and assist the Professor!” Edelgard exclaims. The Black Eagles move out. As you make to follow, a hand grasps your shoulder and stops you.

“Sorry I’m late. I had to make sure our overeager friend didn’t reopen that wound.” Linhardt tells you. “Hold still, Blair. You’re badly hurt.” Linhardt works his healing magic, not only restoring you back to full health, but also ridding you of the poison you were suffering from.

“Blair, I owe you a great debt.” Ferdinand says, catching up with you. “Let us finish this battle!”

You all move out towards the ruins where you had seen Byleth and Solon fighting. The other Black Eagles are already there, but none of them are interfering with the raging battle going on, opting to instead take cover from the rogue blasts of magic Solon has been sending out. The Dark Mage is sending out wave after wave of powerful magic. As a mage yourself, you’re able to sense the sheer amount of energy behind each of his attacks. Any one of them you’d be hard pressed to defend against.

The Professor though, dodges these attacks as if they were being spun by a mere amateur. You’ve seen her fight plenty of times before, but nothing like this. Her counterattacks with the Sword of the Creator are more precise and carry with them enough force to slice through the enemy’s magic. If Solon is a class above you, The Professor is an entire world ahead. Wherever Solon had managed to send her with his magic, she’s seemingly come back twice as powerful.

And her hair…

The battle rages for a few more moments, until suddenly, it ends with a slash of the Professor’s sword. Solon staggers back with a spray of black blood. He mutters something to the Professor you’re unable to hear, before collapsing onto his back, dead.

Just like that, it’s over. You rush over to your teacher, along with the rest of your classmates.

“That hair…and those eyes…what happened to you?” Edelgard asks.

“The Goddess has gifted me her power.” The Professor says, as though it were the most normal thing in the world to occur. No one says anything, staring at her as though she’s lost her mind. After a few long seconds of silence, where you’re waiting for some sort of clarification, she topples over face-first on the floor, unconscious.

“I-is she okay…?” Dorothea asks.

“I…think she’s asleep.” Edelgard sighs. “Can someone please carry her?”

Some of the Black Eagles move to carry the Professor, while others take some time to mend the wounds they received during battle, taking a short rest. Linhardt did a decent enough job of getting you back to full health, so you decide to use the camp time you’ve been given to do a bit of investigating. You’re interested in just who these foes you were fighting really are. While Kronya’s body has vanished completely, lost to Solon’s spell, the corpses of the other black-clad soldiers litter the forest, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

You settle on one of the Paladin’s that had entered the battlefield with Solon. The man’s horse must have ridden off somewhere, but his body remains, lying face down in the muck. You kick the body onto it’s back to examine it more closely. You had gotten only a glance before, but you knew you’d seen something familiar. The armor this man wears seems to have traces of the same black metal from Akzeriuth. You recall that Alena had called this Agarthium.

Kronya, Solon, and the Death Knight. The three of them have been in league with each other since the start, supposedly taking their orders from one known as the Flame Emperor and having access to this strange black metal that can only be found in Rusalka.

Kronya and Solon in particular demonstrated the ability to create and even control Demonic Beasts, similar to the Demon that Alena had spawned back in Akzeriuth. This foul, arcane practice might initially suggest that there’s some sort of link between the three, but it doesn’t appear to be that simple. You think back to that mission. Alena had been using the Demon to try and shut down Akzeriuth, halting the production of Agarthium. A move like that seems like it would come directly into conflict with Solon and his ilk. Could they perhaps be opposing each other somehow, despite employing the same practices?

Reaching down, you remove the helmet of the fallen Paladin. The sight that’s revealed to you makes you recoil. It’s not unusual for a dead man to be pale, but not to this level, and not one that died merely a few moments ago. The color of his skin is pallid and is close to a grey-ish blue. His eyes, frozen open from the moment of his death, are a deep void of black. You’ve never heard of any region before where the people look like this. Solon and Kronya both shared the same characteristics as well, or at least they did once they’d fully revealed themselves. Whatever these people are supposed to be, they’ve demonstrated the ability to camouflage themselves as ordinary humans. A strategic asset on their part, as they’d no doubt stick out like a sore thumb no matter where in Fodlan they’d go. Perhaps the Alena you’d met was employing the same sort of disguise?

You inspect the man for any other clues as to his identity but come away empty save for a single Pure Water, which you pocket.

You get up, wiping some of the disgusting black blood that these things seem to bleed off yourself. Recalling your conversation with the Count, he had told you that all the Agarthium mined from Akzeriuth was being sent to the Empire for a supposed war that was brewing. And yet, every encounter you’ve had with these creatures, you’ve seen them using the strange mineral. The reality of the situation is not lost on you. If these things have the ability to take on the form of any human, it stands to reason that they may have someone embedded in the Empire, diverting the supply of Agarthium for their own purposes. It likely doesn’t stop there though. Tomas had been a librarian for many years at Garreg Mach, before being revealed as Solon. What if they haven’t just infiltrated the Empire, but are everywhere they seek to gain?

As you stand there alone, you suddenly realize what a terrifying thought that is. Not being able to tell friend apart from foe, while an unknown collective of something not human works to unravel Fodlan at its seams.

>“Get it together, Blair. You’re going to go paranoid…” You mutter.

Solon had called himself one of the “Seven Sages” during the battle. That seems revealing, and something he’d likely not brag about if he had thought there was any chance he’d lose. He must have been sure that the Professor had been dealt with, and that he’d have been able to kill the rest of us with ease. Judging by the magic he used, he might have been right. If there are six more of these bastards running around somewhere, you’re not eager to face them.

Sparing one last look at the “man” below you, you head back towards where the Black Eagles are. You’re not sure you can tell anyone about this. For one, they’d likely think you’re crazy. For two, this seems like the type of thing that were it to get out, you’d find several different knives lodged into your back. You can’t just go around suddenly accusing everyone of being a shadow person. There is one person who might understand what you’re talking about but whether or not you can trust her is a different story.

As you head over to where the other Black Eagles are camping, you notice Ashe, Corrine and Kate, huddled together waiting for you.

“There you are missy. Just what do you think you’re doing out there by yourself? Surely you have better things to do than hang around some dead bodies?” Corrine asks you.

>“I just needed some alone time is all. Nothing to worry about.”

“Corrine and Kate were filling me in on what you were up to.” Ashe says. “Me and some of the other Black Eagles were focused on routing the remaining enemy soldiers in the forest. As far as I can tell, none of them made it out.”

“A comforting thought.” Corrine says. “At the very least, we can say we’ve avenged Martha and Xavier.”

Can we? Sure, Kronya is the reason your friends are dead. But after everything you saw transpire here today, you get the feeling she was just a small piece in a much larger game. Whoever these people are, they think nothing of stripping away someone’s humanity to turn them into a Demonic Beast. This time it was two of your dear friends, but you have a bad feeling that they won’t be the last. Whoever is behind this, no matter how many of them there may be, you want to see them all dead.

“Is she really dead?” Kate asks. “We saw the Professor come back after all. What if Mon-…Kronya did as well? Her body was missing.”

>What a nightmare that would be. “I watched that Solon guy plunge his hand through her chest. If she’s alive after that, I’m not sure what it’ll take. Besides, whatever the Professor did to come back to us, I have a feeling it had to do with the Sword of the Creator. I’d wager it’s not so easy to dispose of the Goddess’s favorite weapon.”

“If she is alive, I’m happy to kill her as many times as it takes. Over and over again. I can think of nothing more cathartic.” Corrine says.

“Well, her body may be missing, but this wasn’t. I swiped it from the floor when I went to check out the battlefield.”

>“What’s this?” You ask, as Ashe hands you a sheathed knife. You unsheathe it to find a familiar sight. It’s noticeably less bloody than when you last saw it, but it’s unmistakably the same weapon Kronya was using. The hilt is made of some sort of bone, while the blade appears to be Agarthium.

“I uhh… took the liberty of cleaning Ferdinand’s blood off. I think you should keep it. The way I hear, you faced her down and helped wipe that smug look off her face. Think of it as a war trophy of sorts.”

As you stare at the dagger, you don’t really feel much. There’s no sense of accomplishment or pride, nor is there any real satisfaction in taking your revenge on the woman who tortured you. You think of your lost friends and what they might say in this situation. Likely they’d be arguing with each other right now and lightening the mood. You feel an unbearable sadness welling up.

“A dagger…how romantic…” Corrine mutters.

>“Thank you, Ashe.” You pocket the blade. It hits you that this is your last month at the Academy. After a year of studying, fighting and risking your lives together, you’ll be going your separate ways. As if sensing your drop in mood, Ashe leans forward, hugging you tightly.

Corrine sighs. “Don’t be so glum, Blair. It doesn’t suit you.” She joins in on the hug.

“Don’t be sad, Commander.” Kate adds herself to the mix.

>The four of you embrace like that for a while. “Thank you. You’re the finest friends I could ask for. But please. I can’t breathe with all of you on me.”

What will you focus on during your final month at the Academy?

So I forget, are we actually allowed to double up and get a +3 to something? Because if so cramming in flight lessons to hit A flying for Alert Stance+ is definitely in order. After that, I'd probably actually put a token point in Faith. It's a Weakness, but if we can get even basic Heal and Nosferatu, our staff and pretty good MAG would carry those a long way. If we can't double up, I'd put the +2 in Faith, lock in Alert Stance, and then uh, I guess Sword to work towards a possible eventual Axebreaker?

>Flying (+2)

You and the others return through the gates of Garreg Mach a day later. Unlike the typical atmosphere when you’ve completed missions in the past, there’s no fanfare or excitement upon your arrival. Everyone seems eager to move on from the awful nightmare that Kronya and Solon had inflicted upon the monastery, and frankly, you’re no different. While you don’t believe you’ll ever be fully over what transpired, you do your best weather it, and focus on what’s yet to come. This being your last month before graduation, you make every effort to make the most of your training. You get excellent grades from Dame Serena on your Flying, with her remarking that you and Beathan feel as though you’ve completely bonded.

>Flying Skill: A
>Alert Stance: (30% chance to avoid attacks when not engaged)

You don’t believe your tactical skills, nor your skills with the lance and magic will improve any further. You recall Hanneman’s words about how not everything can be learned from the academy, with some things needing to be gained through real world experience. You have a sinking feeling in your stomach that there will be plenty of that soon enough. Instead, you work on using a Sword. It’s been a while since you picked up a blade. It’s not your favored weapon, but it can’t hurt to brush up on your skill with it. For some strange reason, you also get the idea that spending a bit of time training with Heavier Armor could be a good idea. While your heart may be in the right place, you find that you can barely stand straight with it on. After toppling over a few times, you leave the training ground, having made only meager progress.

A few days after your return, you get word that there will be some sort of ceremony at the end of the month. You don’t know the details, but get the impression it has something to do with the Professor and her strange new hair color. Her sudden change in hair and eye color has been the talk of the monastery, and having seen how it happened firsthand, you get the feeling it isn’t merely cosmetic. The ceremony will involve visiting the Holy Tomb, though as far as you’re aware, only a select few students will be attending.

After class one day, you make good on your resolve to speak with Edelgard about your “findings.” You head over to her usual hangout at the Black Eagles’ Assembly Hall, but instead find only Hubert.

“Ahh, Blair. Good to see you. May I help you with something?”

>“Oh, hello Hubert. I was looking for Lady Edelgard? Might you know where I could find her?”

“I’m afraid Lady Edelgard has returned to Enbarr on some urgent business.” He tells you.

>“What? The Imperial Capital? Is everything okay?”

Hubert gives you a dismissive wave. “Nothing you’d need worry about. Just a small task that has called her attention. The Professor has also gone with her, but they’ll be back before the end of the month.”

>You sigh. How frustrating. You’d hoped to get a chance to speak with the Princess one last time before the school year was over. Who knows the next time, if ever, you’ll have access to such an important figure? Hopefully, you can get in touch with her upon her return. “I understand. Thank you, Hubert.” As you turn around to make your leave, Hubert calls out to you.

“What did you wish to speak about with Lady Edelgard? Would it perhaps have to do with that corpse you were inspecting back in the Sealed Forest?” He asks you.

You pause mid-step. Working up the resolve to speak about this with Princess Edelgard was one thing. Speaking about it with Hubert is an entirely different matter.

“I saw what you had gotten up to after the last mission. I imagine that the rest of our classmates have their own suspicions about who we were fighting out there, but I find it remarkable that you were the only one to actually get up close and personal.” Hubert looks at you with a serious expression.

You’re not sure what to say. You open your mouth to try and come up with something, but the heir to House Vestra cuts you off.

“Refrain from whatever you’re about to say. As you’re no doubt keenly aware by now, this is no longer the best place to speak freely. If I may make a suggestion though, don’t let your curiosity get away from you. There are some things that are better off not knowing. Lady Edelgard has great expectations for you. Do not disappoint her. Simply place your faith in Her Majesty, and all will be revealed and dealt with in due time.” Before you have the chance to offer any sort of protest, he brushes past you, leaving the hall.

All according to plan. Prepare for heartbreak as friend turns against friend, though I'm having a hard time figuring out who you could say for sure is going into either cap of the other students. I can think of at least one that might take a bigger role in the quest depending on where they go.

You find Kate sitting at the Pegasus Grounds. From the looks of things, she’s just finished a training session and is now watching some of the others from the Knights of Seiros and the Blue Lions go at it. There appears to be a slice of jerky in her hand as she lays out and watches the show with a decent meal. As you approach her, she looks up and offers you a curt nod.

“Hello Commander. It’s good to see you.” She says.

>You sigh. “You don’t have to call me that you know. I like to think of you as a good friend. And besides, in a few weeks I’ll no longer be your Commander.”

“Not necessarily.” She says, taking a bite of the meat. “I have a feeling you’re destined for great things in the Adrestian Army. When the day comes that you’re given command of your own company of pegasus knights, I want to make sure I’ll be serving under you.”

>“What makes you so sure I’ll be a Commander and not you? You’re certainly skilled enough for the job. And you’re a noble to boot. You seem as though you’re practically built for the task.” You sit next to Kate on the floor. She offers you a piece of her jerky, which you gingerly accept.

Kate shakes her head. “Remember during the Battle of the Eagle and Lion? When I first introduced myself and said I’d follow your lead?”

>“How could I forget. I thought there was a good chance you might spear Derrek right there.”

“I oversaw some of the few Black Eagle Pegasus Knights prior to that battle. It was more than I could bare though. All those girls looking to me to give them orders, telling them what to do, soothing over their fears and doubts.” She shakes her head again. “I’m no good at that stuff. I don’t have a taste for tactics or leadership. It’s too complex. Involves too much. I don’t want to be responsible for all those lives. My talents lie in fighting, not leading. I simply wish to follow the orders of an honorable and skilled Commander, who will allow me to let loose in battle as I see fit. Fortunately, you came along, and I saw an opportunity to rid myself of the burden of leadership.”

>“Well, I’m glad I could help. Though as I recall, Derrek had wanted to fight with me over leadership during that battle. Why choose me over him?”

Kate looks as you as though you’ve asked the world’s dumbest question. “Even back then it was obvious you were of a far superior class to him. And time has proven that was the correct choice.” She takes another bite. “You remind me a lot of my mother, Blair. Or at least, the type of daughter I believe she wishes me to be. My mother was a high-ranking Commander of an Adrestian Pegasus Company. Not only was she a skilled Pegasus Knight, but a tactically sound one as well. She saw her company to several tight victories during the Dagda and Brigid War. That is, until an injury sidelined her. Since then, she’s pushed me to be the same as her. Unfortunately for me, she still wields quite some influence in the army. It’s likely she’s been pulling strings the entire time I’ve been at the Academy to get me an Officer position.”

>“If that’s the case, what will you do?”

Kate shrugs and gives you a soft smile. “Lady Edelgard seems to have taken a liking to you. Perhaps if I can secure a post serving the great, up and coming Blair d’Rusalka, that may be enough to satisfy mother?”

You smile. “I’ve never heard you talk this much Kate. It suits you. Should the future indeed take me down the path of leading my own company, there’s no one else I’d want at my side more.”

“I feel…comfortable around you. And Corrine as well. And the others in our unit, before they had passed. I was never one for chatting or making very many friends. But you’ve all been so kind to me. My spear is yours.”

You stand outside of Bernadetta’s room. It’s been a while since the two of you have last spoken. Somewhere along the way, things got so crazy, you feel as though you hardly got to spend as much time with her as you’d have liked. You’d never met anyone so shy before, but she seemed to really open up with you. Not to mention the two of you have fought side by side in battle plenty of times now and have learned to rely on each other. You knock on her door, wondering if the experiences that your friend has faced have managed to make her any less shy. A timid voice answers you from inside.

“W-who’s there?!”

>“It’s me, Bernie. Blair.”

“O-oh, h-hi Blair! Just one second…” You hear the sound of a lock unlatching. Followed by another. Then another. And then a chain unravelling. Goddess, you and Dorothea only have lock on your door. Did she install more on her own? After the seventh lock is finally unchained, the door peeks open, and the purple haired girl pokes her head out. “Would you like to come in?”

>“S-sure.”

You’ve only been here once, back during your very first month at the academy, but Bernadetta’s room is as messy as you remember it. Stuffed animals, books and plants litter the floor and shelves. In the corner of the room is a haphazardly thrown together pile of pillows and quilts, resembling some sort of fortification. Bernadetta notices you staring at her creation and answers your gaze. “I like crawling in there. It makes me feel secure.”

>“How are you doing Bernadetta? I was hoping to spend some time with you before graduation.”

“Ahh, that’s right. We’ll be leaving the monastery soon, wont we?”

>“I imagine you must be somewhat happy about that. No more marches or battles to the death in your future.”

“Well, that part is nice. But…well, I’m going to miss everyone. I never had many friends growing up. My father had always kept a close watch on me. Being here with everyone…you and all the others. It’s been great! Really really great! And now, who knows what the future holds for me? My father will likely work tirelessly to marry me off to some noble for the good of our house.” She sighs. “Things don’t look good for Bernie. I’ll be right back where I started, all alone.” Tears well up in her eyes.

>You place a reassuring hand on Bernadetta’s shoulder and do your best to cheer her up. “I’m sorry, Bernie. But you’re a smart girl! And I think you’ve changed a lot during the last year. You’re way tougher than you were when you first came to the academy! The Professor and everyone else always place a lot of faith in you when we’re out there, and you never disappoint. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure something out. And you won’t be alone. We’ll always be friends. I’ll even come and visit!”

“Blair…” She says through the tears in her eyes. “My father hates commoners. He forbids me from ever speaking with them and keeps them as far as possible. How can we ever meet again?”

>“Well then, I won’t be a commoner anymore! After we graduate, I’ll be a noble knight! I’ll even become the Countess of Rusalka if that’s what it takes to gain an audience with you!”

“Blair…” She clears her eyes. “Thank you. I’ve only gotten this far because ever since the mock battle, you’ve kept all the bad guys away from me. I’d be full of holes right now if it weren’t for you. You’re a great friend.”

>“I’m glad I didn’t break my promise to protect you back then. Think of me as your older sister. If anyone messes with you, they’ll have to answer to me!”

Bernadetta smiles. “I’d like that. Maybe you can beat up my dad for me?”

>You gained an A-Support with Bernadetta!

You spend a few hours with Bernadetta in her room, chatting about the year and your futures. Life resumes on as normal, with you training hard and wrapping up your studies. The Professor and Edelgard have yet to return, though you hear through the grapevine that they should be back any day now. Another week goes by, and the weekend arrives. Your final weekend of free time at Garreg Mach. The thought seems unreal to you.

You find Felix occupying his usual spot in the Training Ground, taking practice swings with his sword. At this point in the year, every student at Garreg Mach knows to steer clear and give him his space when he comes to train. You can tell right away from the change in his form and stance that the heir to House Fraldarius has come a long way from when the two of you used to spar at the beginning of the year. Interestingly enough, you find him holding a bizarre-looking shield in his left hand while he runs his drills. He’d never brought a shield into battle before, let alone such a unique one. At a glance, it looks as though it’s made out of some sort of animal bone. Perhaps he’s been looking to add some more defense to the way he fights? The change piques your interest, especially since you didn’t just come here to ogle at the lad. The two of you had somewhat of a rivalry when you first came here, and you figure it would be nice to give it a satisfactory conclusion.

“I’m not here to put on a show, Blair.” Felix calls out from the middle of the training ground upon noticing you. “Either come down here and spar with me or go watch someone else.”

>You jump into the ring. “You’re as blunt as ever. Would it kill you to start off with some small talk? Maybe ask how I’ve been since you’ve last seen me?”

“Don’t care.”

>You sigh. “I swear, you remind me too much of Rex. All you two are obsessed with is fighting stronger foes.”

“Rex de Rusalka?” Felix asks, eyebrows raised. “I’d enjoy crossing blades with the Empire’s Sky Shadow. Any way you can set that up?”

>“I’m sure my Lord Brother would relish the thought of planting you in the ground, but unfortunately, your bout is with me today.”

Felix smirks. “I suppose that will have to do. We’ve come a long way since our first duel. What say we use our actual weapons this time? We have some healers on standby today, and we can always pull our punches a bit.”

>You shrug. “Fine by me. After how rude you were, I think I’d prefer using my Silver Lance as opposed to a wooden one right now.”

You both take your respective corners in the training area. As you turn around, you notice that Felix has taken a different stance from the one you saw earlier. He’s gripping his Killing Edge with two hands, his shield nowhere to be seen.

>“What happened to that creepy shield of yours? Don’t tell me you don’t think you’ll need it.”

“That was no ordinary shield, Blair. That was the Aegis Shield. It’s the Hero’s Relic of House Fraldarius. No offense, but I figured it may be a bit overkill to bring that to a spar.”

Perhaps it was something in the boy’s tone, but that ticked you off a bit. Admittedly, your knowledge of Heroes Relics is not your strongest spot. You’ve seen Catherine in action with her Thunderbrand, as well as the Professor and her Sword of the Creator. Not to mention of course, that time you were impaled by Miklan and the Lance of Ruin. Hard to forget that day. But surely the advantage that shield would give Felix wouldn’t be the same as the offensive relics you’ve encountered thus far. Crest bearers are difficult enough foes in their own right to defeat, but you understand that their strength increases tenfold when utilizing a Hero’s Relic that corresponds with their crest. Perhaps this could serve as a learning experience for you. Or perhaps you should listen to Felix and not bite off anymore than you can chew.

>“If you’d like to drop that shield I certainly won’t stop you. Just don’t go complaining when you lose.” You taunt Felix.

The boy smirks. “Now look who’s being rude. All right then. Let’s begin.”

>Felix Hugo Fraldarius
>Level 25: Swordmaster
>Crest of Fraldarius
HP: 47
STR: 30
DEX: 20
SPD: 30
LCK: 16

A nearby cleric serves as the referee for your bout with Felix. With a wave of her arm, she bids that the two of you begin. Despite her commencement of the battle, neither of you make a move. The two of you remain locked in your stance, watching each other for an opening. It’s been a while since you’ve fought the boy, but you remember that his speed rivals, if not surpasses your own. If you make the wrong move, it’s not too far fetched that he may activate that Crest of his and take you out in one shot. You’re sure Felix has a few new tricks up his sleeve, but fortunately, so do you.

After standing off for what seems like an eternity, Felix decides he’s had enough and charges, attempting to take the first blow. The boy’s speed is even more oppressive than you remember, but this is exactly what you wanted. Without missing a beat, you shift into your “Swordbreaker” stance. Additionally, you may not be riding Beathan, but you’ve learned to move on your feet as gracefully as you do when taking flight on his back. You bolster your defenses with the “Alert Stance” technique you learned this month.

>+60% Dodge Chance

Felix may be quicker than you, but your technique catches the better of him, and you parry the blow away, much to the boy’s shock.

>“My turn!” You make your counterattack a good one. Were this a real-life battle, you’d likely be able to impale the boy here. But being that this is a spar, you pull your punches just a bit, and settle for slamming your spear across the heir to Fraldarius’ chest, launching him back.

(17 Damage! Felix: 34/47 HP)

Unfortunately, despite your successful attack, he’s still far too quick for you to follow-up on, and he backsteps out of the way before you can even attempt a second strike. You pursue, this time, switching out of your “Alert Stance” to take the offensive. You attack, boosting your strength with your “Lancefaire” technique. You connect again with Felix, this time hitting him hard in his side.

“Not bad, Blair! Let me take it up a notch!” Felix taunts. The familiar glow that emanates from him signifies the tell-tale sign of Crest activation. He swings at you hard on his counterstrike. Without your “Alert Stance”, you find the attack much harder to parry away, even with your “Swordbreaker.” Felix’s hit lands true, and you are sent flying back hard. The blow, enhanced by the Crest of Fraldarius, hurts badly, but you take solace in the fact that he was unable to critically strike you with his weapon.

>(21 + 10 (Crest of Fraldarius) = 31 Damage! Blair: 12/43 HP)

You roll once, twice, three times before getting back up to your feet, heavily rattled. Instinctively, you go back into your “Alert Stance.” Clearly Felix has gotten better with using that Crest of his. You take the defensive, but Felix does not follow up. Perhaps he’s learned his lesson from the last time he tried to breach through your defensive stances. Instead, he watches you with his guard up, warily. He’s not the only one either. As your head finishes reeling, you’re snapped back into your surroundings. Your bout has attracted the attention of the rest of the students at the Training Ground, who are watching and shouting.

“Take out the common trash, Felix!”

“Knock that smug bastard on his ass, Blair!”

“No way that girl’s gonna win!”

“She’s still standing even without a Crest?”

As the two of you stand there squaring off, you realize this is just like the first time the two of you fought, during the mock battle. You won the bout that time, albeit through methods that a certain Pegasus Knight from the Blue Lions thought questionable.

Then again, you’re a budding tactician now. A master of strategy! And you, as well as Felix, know that the only thing that matters is victory.

That familiar blue light appears around Felix. You know what’s coming. Make your decision now.

You hold your stance, locking blades with a Crest-empowered Felix. The world deafens around you as you both are stuck in a standstill. Briefly, it looks as if you’re going to hold out through his attack. Gradually though, you get pushed back. Inch by inch, you try to resist giving ground, but the force of Felix’s strike is far too great. Had he not had his Crest, it’s possible you could come out on top here. Unfortunately, life is not fair, and your muscles give way as you are sent flying back again by his empowered attack.

>Blair is defeated!
>30xp gained! (70/100)

Once again, you’re sent rolling and tumbling backwards, your Silver Lance being launched out of your hands. You land still on your back, where you remain, dizzily looking at the azure sky above. Your head is ringing, and your arms feel as though they’re on fire, but it could certainly be much worse. Thank the Goddess this was merely a spar and not the real thing. The crowd that had gathered around you seems to be dispersing. The novelty of seeing an ordinary girl push a Crest-bearing noble to his limits has passed now that she’s lost. Your view is suddenly taken up by Felix, who extends his hand downward to give you a lift.

“That was a close one.” He says, helping you back up to his feet. “You’ve improved a tremendous amount since the Mock Battle.”

>“Not as much as I’d like, clearly.” You wince, trying to stretch out some of the pain.

Felix shrugs. “Don’t be so hard on yourself. That truly could have gone either way.” He smirks. “You know, I half expected you to throw another Fireball at me, like you had done during the Mock Battle. I had been trying to anticipate it, so that I could attempt a side-step at the last second and catch you with your guard off. But you made me push through that ridiculously tough defensive stance of yours. That was a good call.”

>“I won’t lie, the thought occurred to me. Hearing that you expected it makes me feel a bit better, I suppose. Not by much though.”

Felix chuckles. “Well, if you’re feeling sour about it, come find me anytime you’d like. I’ll always be happy to spar with you.”

>“Count on it. You’d better keep up with your training after graduation, because I’m only going to get stronger from here on out!”

You receive a spot of healing from the attending Cleric, before heading back to your dorm and passing out. Getting beat up seems to have been just the thing you needed to forget that you’ll be leaving the academy soon. The new week begins, and you receive word that The Professor and Lady Edelgard have returned from their trip in Enbarr. No one has the details of what their business in the Imperial Capital was in relation to, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Everyone is focused on just finishing off the school year. Part of you wishes to speak with Edelgard still, but you recall your conversation with Hubert. As annoying as he can be, he had a point. If those “people” can take on the form of anyone, speaking about them out loud could prove to be your folly. They’ve already demonstrated that they’re capable of infiltrating the monastery after all.

The Black Eagles have a special assignment this month. You knew that The Professor would be involved in some sort of ceremony, but you had no idea that it involved her going to the Holy Tomb to receive a revelation from the Goddess herself! She may have just been a mercenary before coming to the Academy, but it’s clear to see that your Professor has grown into an important figure in Fodlan. You find it rather inspiring even. If a commoner such as herself could rise to such heights, perhaps there may be some hope for you as well. You don’t know all the details, but the “revelation” will take place in two days. The Professor, and a select handful of her students, will be guided by Archbishop Rhea into the Holy Tomb. No one you’ve talked to has ever heard of what’s inside, but it must be something grand. It sounds like an amazing experience. One that, unfortunately, you were not selected to attend.

>“If only I were a bit more popular…” You muse.

Oh well! Nothing to do about it. At the very least, you’ll have the day off and won’t be risking your hide on any dangerous missions. Perhaps you’ll use the day to spend some time with a dear friend of yours. Bernadetta and Dorothea were two of the students selected to accompany the Professor, but you still have some other options.

If he is I'd love to see his take on post-timeskip Blair. Otherwise I was going to mention this when we were done with this thread, but if anyone knows a good artist that does TH style portraits I'd be happy to commission something. I'd be interested in Fates style ones as well if there aren't any good TH artists out there. I only did a cursory Google Search but didn't like a lot of the artists I found.

The day has arrived where the Professor and her escort of Black Eagle cadets will be heading into the Holy Tomb, under the guidance of Archbishop Rhea. Since you were not one of the students selected to make the journey with her, you instead have been granted the day off. When it comes to how you decide to spend your last bit of free time at Garreg Mach, it’s no surprise you wish to spend it together with Ashe. The two of you spend the day walking around the monastery, taking in the sights one last time and discussing with each other what your plans are for the future.

“I’ve been exchanging letters with Count Rowe, back in the Kingdom.” Ashe says. “He’s been overseeing the Gaspard territory alongside his own ever since Lonato’s death. After Lonato’s rebellion ended, he got in touch with me, and offered the opportunity to work as a Knight in his service. He’s even been taking care of my siblings, granting them shelter and an education.”

>“That’s great! You’ll be one step closer to your dream!”

“That’s the plan. I’ll be training under Lord Gwendal. He’s one of the Kingdom’s greatest knights. They call him the “Gray Lion.” With any luck, some of his skill will rub off on me.” Ashe laughs nervously. “So, what about you? Have you decided what you’ll do?”

>“Barring any major catastrophes, I suppose I’ll just head back to Rusalka and see what the Count has in store for me.”

Ashe nods. “It’s going to be rough being away from everyone. We’ve spent so much time together this year and faced so many obstacles. We’ll meet again, won’t we?”

>“Of course! Once things are settled back in Rusalka, I’ll come visit you. I’ve always wanted to see what the Kingdom is like. You can give me a tour! And I’d love to finally meet your siblings”

“You bet! I’ll make sure I work hard with Lord Gwendal while I’m away. You and I made a promise to both become strong and valiant knights, and I’m gonna make sure I keep it! You’ll be impressed with how far I’ve come!”

>You smile. “I love the enthusiasm. In that case, I promise to work hard as well. You’ll barely recognize me the next time we meet!”

“Oh, that reminds me.” Ashe reaches deep into his satchel for something. He pulls out what looks like a small figurine. The figure is in the shape of a Pegasus. Intricately carved, its wings are fully outstretched. You notice what looks like a small chain looped around it, indicating that it can be worn as a necklace. “I wanted to get you something before we left. It’s just a small gift.”

>“Ashe! It’s beautiful! And…it looks pricey! I hope you didn’t go through any trouble for me!”

“Actually, I made it myself. I’ve been practicing. I-I hope you like it!” He says, looking away. A hint of a blush creeps onto his cheeks.

>You peck the boy on his cheek. “I love it. Thank you, Ashe. I’ll have something to keep you in mind while I’m away.”

>You Receive Pegasus Charm! (+4 LCK Permanently)

You and Ashe spend the rest of the day walking around the monastery, holding hands and saying goodbye to those friends of yours that you come across. Eventually, you return to your dorm room, exhausted. You find Dorothea there, getting her things put together. It seems that she hasn’t left to accompany the Professor yet.

>“Oh! Dorothea, you’re still here?” You ask.

The girl nods. “We aren’t leaving until moonlight. Archbishop’s orders.” She sighs. “Why that’s the case, I have no idea. This whole thing is really weird. Nobody’s even heard of this “Holy Ritual.” Given the litany of bad things that have already happened this year, I’m not exactly at ease. I hate surprises…”

>“You’ll be with the Professor though. Not to mention all the other students. It’ll be fine. Just be sure to tell me all about it when you come back.”

“Sorry you couldn’t come, Blair. Supposedly the Archbishop was really strict about the number of students that were allowed. We’re supposed to emulate the same number of holy warriors that accompanied Saint Seiros, all those years back.” She sighs. “Me…a holy warrior…”

>You laugh. “Of course! You’re a valiant hero, Dorothea! You could sweep me off my feet anytime.”

“Oh, shush you.” Dorothea looks out the window. “Well, I suppose I’m off then. Wish me luck with…whatever this is.”

>You nod. “Of course. I’ll see you when you get back.”

Dorothea departs the room, leaving you alone. You decide to use the alone time to do some packing, storing away your things for the return trip to Rusalka. You also pack away the letters you had received from the Count. They weren’t exactly the most memorable correspondence. At some point, you began just collecting the gold he sent you and skimming through them. This month’s letter doesn’t appear to be all that different from the others.

>“Blair, I hope your studies are progressing well. Thanks to your efforts, the situation in Rusalka has stabilized, and is now completely under control. As this is your final month at the Academy, I wish you the best of luck. Remember to heed my words, and support Princess Edelgard with her endeavors. For the glory of House Rusalka, aid her with whatever she requires of you.”

>“I look forward to knighting you upon your return.

>“Count Charles d’Rusalka.”

The Count has been writing to you to aid Edelgard since you first arrived at Garreg Mach, and you feel as though you’ve done just that. With the year at an end, there’s not much left for you to do for her. You finish packing, before getting in bed. Night has come, and you imagine that your friends must be making their way to the Holy Tomb by now. Whatever this ritual is, you hope they’re okay.

That concludes Thread #8. I'll let this thread slide off the catalog, and start #9 within a few days or a week. Depends how quickly I can plan for what comes next.

For those of you familiar with the game, #Thread 9 may likely mark the end of Part 1 of Three Houses. As some of you know, there's a big choice ahead. I've been juggling around a few ideas of how I want to handle it, but I think what I've settled on is that Blair will either be going Crimson Flower or Siler Snow. Whatever choice Blair makes will be the same choice the Professor takes in the Holy Tomb.

I want to stress that the Quest is winnable no matter what option gets selected. Additionally, I already have the major skeleton of the plot planned out for either branch. No matter what the anons choose, we'll have something in store.

I mentioned wanting to commission some post-time skip portraits. If anyone has any suggestions for a good artist, I'm happy to message them, regardless of price. I know one anon mentioned Twitter. I don't have one, but if you point me in the direction of someone good, I'm happy to hit them up. Ideally an artist well-versed in doing either TH or Fates style portraits would work.

Lastly, tomorrow actually marks the 1-year anniversary of this quest! When I first started, I thought we'd be way further ahead in the plot by this point in time lol. Thank you to everyone who's stuck in and played!

Keep up the good work QM, also the big decision will be a spergfest, of which I'm equally torn since I love my boy Hubert, but I can't take Edel seriously at all since she comes off like she has brain damage.
The concept of having to go against THE BOAR however sounds cool.

Thanks for the thread, and congrats on the anniversary! Not many quests manage a lifespan like that. Shame about us not getting to side against the professor, but I suppose it's at least partly to make the situation winnable. I'd gladly take the hard mode if it's offered though.

The route will just determine what's going on in the background. Whatever path is taken, it'll be its own independent story. All of the chapters will be OC, as opposed to the ones we've done that have followed the game.

I'm a nerd and inevitably whatever I vote for tends to lose but I would vastly prefer to see Crimson Flower fleshed out vs Silver Snow. SS has a lot more canon material, whereas CF gets cut off partway, so I'd prefer to see a fleshed-out CF

You don't need Twitter to search for people who do FE3H art. There's a pretty large community and you can choose from a style you prefer with reasonable prices.
