""Good day Gentlemen, Lady." you approach the leaders of the two groups hired thus far, each with an aide.Legeate Vasicek and Brigadier Smith are seated at the dining table, next to the Legate is Centurion Williams, and a fatigues wearing woman next to Brigadier Smith."Mr. York, meet Subaltern Valeria Kong. She is the one who managed to turn our second Company of mechwarriors into a dropship crew to reduce the ransom we had to pay the Davions.""A pleasure to meet you" she awkwardly extends a hand that you shake far more easily."Likewise Miss." you turn to the two men that were previously discussing mechwarrior assignments."I see you are trying to fit all the warriors in the Shadowhawks. Fortunately that will not be necessary. I also have two dozen laserboat light mechs that will fit the warriors of the Stampede.""That is some good news, and it will leave four mediums unmanned. I think you will want to have those as lance leader for one of the light mech companies to stiffen it up" said the Brigadier."No. They are rather special machines, with some very interesting electronics systems. From what I gather they should not be mixed with any other type of machine in order to function as needed." you replied. " You will see what I mean once we leave the system and manage to get some practice in, and you most certainly wont be disappointed.""That will leave me with the 'hawks, and I guess most of my men in all the Goblins and most of the APCs. Mars be praised, it will be just as it should be" the other periphery war leader spoke."You are indeed right. The two of you will operate semi independently I suspect, with the light mechs doing their best to leave no evidence of being on the field, being our scouts and daggers, while the mediums and the mechanized infantry will be the main visible thrust. There are also as of now a company of jump troopers and space marines each, that will be assigned to either of the two units as specialists depending on mission.""Sounds like the begining of a workable plan, provided the light mechs live up to the hype. I'd say I can't wait but I would rather we do not make a habit of traveling this fast everywhere." said Brigadier Smith"It is somewhat uncomfortable" concured the Legate, " There is also the next issue, who will have overall comand on the ground? You are the owner, but are a fresh aerospace pilot - you should readjust your rank by the way - I have the most men under my unit, but Smith has the greater number mechs. This should also be settled."

The Blood of Patriots must be docket at Metis. Aug'ed the lot of them. From a shoulder patch showing a broom or a musket you gathered that the trio was most likely the 2nd ASF squadron.Normally this should not be a problem as every pilot and trooper wanted to be augmented as well, however you were part of the free volunteer militia, not the regulars, meaning second liners who if they wanted and afforded could buy themselves augmentation but were not sponsored such. And you did get into some money, hired a bunch of outsiders on account of Belters not being the easiest to recruit to leave the belts and all that. Some kind of fight was inevitable.Marines! Of course the Blood of Patriots ran 30 ASFs and 10 boarding gunships. If there are Marines nearby there must be some of the gunship pilots as well. >>5328158Throwing shit at the wall from my part. Also the navy of a space base civilization that is supported by habitats and asteroid mining would probably not trade an asf carrier for a mech carrier but it is worth the shot. The problem is we do not have the ability to deploy our ful asf force. So the idea was to somehow swap a mech carrier for an asf carrier. The only thing I could think that is not tactics based, since we failed that role, that one being boarding with mechs somehow I suppose, was resque operations for miners or something similar. If you can think of a better argument for them to give us our desired asf carrier I am game for anything. Currently we have 20 asf and the ability to launch ten from our dropship flotilla. 6 from the leopard cv, four from the two stock unions and none from the triumph and fortress. If we load the monolith bays with asfs as well we can launch sixteen. Not the worst, but when as I wrote the gamelan last thread I thought we should be able to go full 20 asf fighters in space to have a good chance of taking over a jump point or pirate point. However, I'd prefer we have a few extra spare small craft bays for militarised shuttles, since we have marines. Boarding the jumpships of our opponents should make for some nice addition to our assets. It is a bit piratical but the prices on jumpships are very tempting and the almost nonexistent defences once we chase or blow up the dropships makes it rather viable.

However it is not something that I have to deal with this year, so tell you what. You come back in a year with a well run outfit with some viable work history and I might take you on my next trip to Columbia, and I will have a carrier standing by for that trip. The Columbians might be still willing to entertain such notions you want to present. If they still have mining mechs by then."" From what I heard the civil war was ending, so they should be recovering""The war is dying out, not quite the same as ending.""Very well Sir. All passengers please hold very tight."And with that forewarning you send out a flight plan and launch, hard. You clear the station, cut thrust, spin the shuttle around and then reengage the hard burn, before repeating the maneuver to decelerate, ending the usage of the engines just before the exhaust would affect the station, and coasting into the dropship docking area your small fleet is located. The passengers probably felt quite a few G forces but they seemed to be marine augmented so this should be familiar to them. Maybe the people in traffic control uttered some curses. As you exit the shuttle you can see the admiral and his escorts are not all that worse for wear, the service crew is giving you the appropriate looks for a hotshot pilot and below you can see the spitroast is functioning well enough with some of your soldiers eating with the local population, and no major fight.Things should be allright."Thank you for your consideration Admiral. Have a nice time and enjoy the roasted beef. ""Thanks for the trip it brought some memories. >>5329243>The Pilots Quarters to get Pilotseven if we dont have the means to launch all our birds, getting reliable Pilots sooner rather than later seems preferable in sight of build up of loyality and wing cohesion.>Write-in?im not so well versed with the battle tech universe, so how expensive/ propable is turning our union dropship into a ASF carrier? question of time or does cost just not justify it and we'd be better off buying one straigth? Why cant we get one from Earth? Did we think of that too late or was there something else?
>>5330310 ComStar who runs the terran system are basically the interstellar communications monopoly running the HPG network and they are also basically the adeptus mechanicus who until the Helm memory core is discovered in 3028 and proliferated and then after the clan invade in 3050 are not just hoarding technology but covertly ensuring everyone else loses it. Also getting a dropship swap was a moon shot. Dropships are not as invaluable as Jumpship who outside of fringe exceptions are not to be destroyed but captured with the crews usually surrendering, but they are expensive and also hard to get. Dropships are the stl craft you use to get from the jumpship, who is 90% ftl drive, to the planet or destination. It is why an automated assembly plant that makes a compact drive, well the subcompact drive and the smallest warship ever, is such a big deal. Outside of ComStar and the clans no one can produce compact drives that are only 45% volume or so of the craft.More when I get home. Or use sarnahttps://www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_Pagesarna.net is king:https://www.sarna.net/wiki/DropShiphttps://www.sarna.net/wiki/JumpShiphttps://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hyperpulse_Generatorhttps://www.sarna.net/wiki/WarShipBut yeah pilots are a requirement. And belter pilots are some of the best, if we cna get them out of the belts and into the wider scary universe of basically game of thrones in space only 1000 bigger and with way more occasional warcrimes and bullshit schemes and intrigue.
>>5330310According to Aerotech 2, a leopard goes for about 60 million, a union for 160 or 180 I can't recall. A fortress is as expensive as a jumpship.Refit costs are not specified, but there are construction rules and once I read up on them. But it is going to take a few months of yard time to swap mech bays for aerospace bays, make the asf hangar exits, etc.Plus since it is 3015, I suspect the hurry is to get to Galatea and sign up with the soon to be winning side in the marik civil war...>>5330310Finding out that the data from Helm got disseminated caused Primus Tiepolo, the most diplomatic person to hold the position thus far, have a hear attack that eventually did him in.That being said the part about ComStar fucking with everyone trying to advance technologically is only suspected in very well informed circles of power. Even most of ComStar is not aware of that. Until they advance sufficiently in rank or are in the right departments.
>>5331240House Marik being the leaders of the Free Worlds League. Where civil wars are common. Columbia is an independent system. Just FYI so people do not confuse the two.
>>5329243>>5329243>The Pilots Quarters to get Pilots>>5330310In regards to buying one, we don't have the cash right now unless we try and sell one we have. The notion was that since we are part of the belter militia we might as well try our luck with said institution, and we might get some offer still, depending on if what the admiral last said to us was genuine or just pleasantries. That being said a carrier drop ship is not that necessary. As of now we are a new middling merc outfit with some very fancy gear. And honestly ten Royal Stukas should clear out any opposition we should encounter, provided we don't go crazy and invade major worlds without support or other such interesting ideas. Best to limit our purchases to what we need. Some merc rankers once we get at Galatea will probably be available, if we go with the current one year payment that will be nice chunk of our funds and then there will be the personal tanker gear we will have to buy.Plus if we really have to the other ten ASFs can be stored in the cargo space. It just takes considerable more time to launch them and load them back up.But that should not be necessary, unless we really want all birds out and to try and blow up opponents while in their dropships...
>>5330310>>5331307You notify traffic control that you will be leaving the shuttle in the care of the docks crew, and a pilot for it will be needed once the admiral is done with his business. With that done you proceed to again head to the Milita Pilots Quarters. This time it seems the rumors of free live meat has taken over the airways and no one is inclined to be moody with you.As you walk towards your CAGs on station office thankfully you are not interrupted. You knock and are invited in by a curt "Enter""Commander Samuels." you salute."Cadet York.", replies Samuels making a lazy salute allowing you to lower your arm. "what kind of official business are you going to dump on my desk?""Transfer papers to the reserves, sir. Already submitted to the admiralty's personnel office.""I heard you rode in hard with five dropships. Those would be the reason for your sudden change to the reserves?""Aye sir.""You do understand you will have to be present for two weeks of exercises a year while in the reserves.""I hope we will be able to work something out on that front should logistics prevent my presence. Sifting them around ?""Why would that be approved?""Because I am certain I will be coming in with a greater experience in what is out there Sir. I'll be starting a mercenary company and that should let me observe if not directly combat other pilots.""Interesting proposition. That could be taken into consideration.""I'd also like your permission, sir, to invite any volunteers into joining up with my new outfit.""Provided you convince some of them or even all of them to do so, that would leave a considerable hole in our force. Might even ground a Carrier. Training up replacements takes time, recalling reservists into active service is a lot of paperwork and you are a reservist that just exited active service - you and the rest who do so would be the first to be recalled. A lot of work for ending up where you started don't you think?""I see. Sir would it not be prudent to gain such experience once it gets rotated in? Could that be something that would be looked on favorably by the brass?""Yes, some might. Some might not. But it would put me in a position of having to do a lot more work. You know, have you ever visited Dawson's Speakeasy?"
>>5331765"No sir, I have not.""Instead of poaching my pilots why don't you take a look at the place. That is where some of the older and former militiamen pilots tend to gather to keep in touch. Not fresh graduates.""Thank you sir, I will take it under consideration, but if they know me they only know me by reputation if at that, and they probably already have set their sights on some job in the belt or the Trojans. Would you have any advice on how to get them to sign up?""Hmmmh. You know a lot of the former pilots are not lifers and few manage to afford the proper pilot package. If you aim to strike it rich fighting across the inner sphere, perhaps promise them that, and start with a sign on bonus that affords the prerequisites for it. Bone and Joint Reinforcements are the first requried stage.""Thanks again Sir. Pleaseure serving with you." "Likewise. Don't get killed.">Try and present your case to an Admiral and gain permission to 'recruit' a cohesive ASF unit freshly turned reserve (Lord Cochrane or someone else if preferred). >Visit Dawson's Speakeasy and meet older and former pilots. When the wing commander offers a hit, it is wise to take it as they say, and you took it. So with that in mind you searched for Dawson's, the designated watering hole for pilots who wanted to get away from nuggets and rookies or to keep in touch with retired friends. On the way you thought about how to pitch your sale. The obvious answer was of course drink, either buying a few rounds on you for your good fortune and let pilots approach you. Another way would be to speak to the owner and see about filling up his stocks of hard liquor with some of your cargo, and offer him a discount in exchange for the organisation of a special event, where he or she would invite as many of the notable regulars as possible and where you can drop in, presented by the owner as the co-host of the event. One would be faster and get you some results now, while the latter would be probably later. Either way you would get some pilots. After that you will have to just set a time with the simulators to see how everyone performs together and get an idea of how to get organised. You found Dawson's the next station section over and below, and were surprised to find it quite populated at this early in the day, pilots in ASF suits, civilian shuttle pilots, other patrons in civilian clothing. You could spot a few empty spots here and there at carious tables but a casual observer would not be mistaken to call it jam packed.>Roll 2d6 + Leadership 4, to see what kind of pilots you can find. Sorry for being incommunicado this week, work has gotten a bit out of hand. I still have some stuff to finish up, but I hope that by next week we an resume with the usual time intervals of 1/2 days depending on how we all manage to post.
With such a large crowd, it would be perhaps best to just endear yourself to them and so, you went to the bar and proceeded to order a few rounds of drinks to the whole bar.The barman was looking decently happy about the money , and offered you a change to address the crowd you would be sponsoring and rang a buzzer fire alarm to get everyone to quiet up."Hear all, a couple rounds of drinks from the generous man over here" he said pointing at you.The natural reaction of everyone making some perfunctory gesture or noise about appreciation was soon to be heard or seen, and as it died down you addressed the crowd on your own."I lucked myself into a nice opportunity and thought to myself, it would be good to share the cheer with other pilots. Hell I think i would like to share some of this with other pilots as well. So, a toast .... ">To Pilots>To Belters>To Good Fortune>Write-in : ?After the toast you managed to meet with a few groups of pilots and other folks interested in what business offer you might have. Then there was your by now standard way of starting with the payment for a new hire, with a full year payment placed in escrow and so guaranteeing one year of payment, regardless of situation. These two incentives were certainly a draw you would think. There was also the advice of your wing commander, bone and joint reinforcements costed about 10k C-bills, so if you were to included that for every pilot, or belter, it would also work as a way in prevent any health issues that might appear if working for a long time in unfamiliar gravity. If some pilots where asteroid homesteaders and visited the Metis habitat only briefly, tolerating 1 G for extended period of times would present a problem. The same is of course valid in reverse - if you or any of your other regular gravity planetborn men were to operate for long time, measured in multiple months, in low or high gravity health complication would appear. The reinforcement prevents that. Belters medics and cyberdocs even managed to do away with most of the recovery time for one of the more sought after elective implant. You could also be completely profligate and offer to also sponsor a vacuum resistance package treatment that for one it ensured the augmented person would be able to survive in space vacuum for extended periods of time even with compromised suits, and are also what the combat enhancement treatments for belter pilots and marines are further added on. These however costed 300k C-bills per treatment, and would require some considerable downtime of anywhere between 6 to 12 months adjusting to it, thus perhaps something to be considered only once they have done a tour under your employ. The stock offer:>Standard offer ( Recruits : 5d6)>Standard offer 1 + Bones Reinforcements (Recruits : 5d6+5)>Standard offer 1 + Bones Reinforcements + Vacuum resistance on contract end. to dice write 'dice+5d6+5' in options. no quotes. Also month end closing is coming at my new job. This week is not complete ass, but the next one will be. What do anons think of preplaned sessions?Say saturday 19:00/20:00 to 00:00 / 01:00 or sunday 10:00 to 16:00 all GMT hours of course.it seems to take me 1/2 to 1h to write an update depending on how it flows A session i think is something we should go for once we go in for the simulated battle. It will also offset me going on another hiatus for months close, and afterwards if i do both sessions and update once every other day or so we should probably finish the bloody fucking around on terra the coming month. i hope.
