Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll a D100 unless otherwise specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of Seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, Rufflet, now Rascal, evolved into Braviary, you settled things between you and your old friend Jacky, reunited with Syurm, met some members of Team Cracker and kept the Silveridge Museum from being trashed by Team Green.

OP might be a good idea to include the last post offering choices from the previous thread.

We are helping with the cleanup after the museum was attacked.

Choices what to do are:

"Well, first thing's first, I'll go around and get the windows." You offer.

Daz nods.

"Alright, but you're going to need a ladder." He says, before fishing a key off a ring. "And this so you can open the windows." He says, before leading you to a janitor's closet and hauling out a ladder for you, before sending you on your way to open the windows.

>Give me two rolls. First one for how fast you get this done, the second for carrying the ladder.

It takes you about half an hour to get done with opening all the windows, but carrying the ladder around with you isn't an inconvenience in the slightest and when you come back to the foyer where everyone is helping dust and clear up broken glass and soot, Daz sets the ventilation system pumping to speed the process of aerating the building along.

"Good timing." He says as you put the ladder away, before he hands you a duster. "Right, next up, I'd like you to go around the floor and dust the exhibits. Don't worry about the fossils, just focus on the other stuff." He adds, before you nod and head off to cover them.

Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be much soot that made it to the exhibits and it's an easy enough job that takes you about half an hour, carefully dusting the glass display cabinets and the diorama showcasing the town as it was in its mining heyday.

Afterwards, you have a chance to admire the fossils on display:

There're dozens of them, from tiny omanytes, up to an Amaurus that takes up the massive central dais and an Aerodactyl suspended from the ceiling and even a complete Archen skeleton preserved in mudstone in a small case that takes pride of place among the smaller fossils in one of the cabinets.

You don't waste too much time though and quickly hurry back to the foyer, which is now both clean and a hive of activity as scientists and lab techs, presumably from the parts of the museum that aren't open to the public, lodge their reports to Daz.

Upon seeing you he beckons you over.

"Alright, thanks for the help, but from here, it's all us." He says. "I'll drop by the pokemon center later with something for the help." He adds.

"Cheers." You say, before pausing. "I've actually got a fossil I'd like to get revived. Can I leave it here with you or is now a bad time?" You ask.

You wonder if there's a fee for ressurecting fossils.

Daz shakes his head though.

"Not today, I'm afraid." He says. "I'll give you a bell though, when we're all ready to go restoring fossils again."

You swap numbers with him before you head back to the pokemon center and head to the PC to rearrange your team.

There really hasn't been a good moment yet to do much of anything with Latias, but you should have plenty of space and privacy on the way to Saltcoast, so for now, you swap her out for Nika, along with Blitz for Rascal.

With your team assembled again, you head outside, only to find that the court out the back of the pokemon center is being used for an impromptu round robin tournament by some local trainers.

"You guys got room for one more?" You ask as the most recent round ends.

"Sorry, we've already got an even number." An older boy says, indicating around.

You do a quick headcount and sure enough, there's ten kids there, so if you joined, there'd have to be a by, which you can see why they wouldn't want another one.

You're actually a little stuck for what to do before you shrug and double back to the museum.

"There something else you need?" He asks.

"Just wondering if you've got a spare court at the gym I can use to train." You explain.

Daz looks you up and down before nodding and digging out his pokedex and making a quick call.

"Yeah, Just head down to the gym and tell 'em Daz said you could use the spare court for as long as you'd like." He says.

"Thanks." You say gratefully, before heading out again.

As it turns out, it isn't and after doubling back to the pokemon center and a short discussion with Gareth, you head down the street to the gym, which sits atop the old, played-out silver mine.

Once you enter, the receptionist informs you Darren isn't in and that the gym is presently closed to anyone without an appointment.

Upon telling the man behind the desk Darren said you could use the spare court, he makes a brief call, before waiving you through without further comment.

The court itself is much the same as the secondary court in Ethan's gym, except instead of being surrounded by a lush garden, this one is sandy and bordered by a rock garden, while off to the side in a small alcove is a PC, presumably for the convenience of someone looking to do training here. Or Daz, when he's doing multiple battles back-to-back.

"So, what did you have in mind?" Gareth asks. "Another few practice matches? Move training? First thing's first for me, I want to teach my Feebas Water Gun." He says.

"Hm..." You say, before releasing Latias. "First thing's first, I kind of want to see what Latias can do." You admit.

Gareth nods.

"Yeah, there really hasn't been a good time to do any training with her, has there?" Gareth asks rhetorically, before looking around and retrieving some targets from a locker and setting them up for her.

You decide to run through her moves first, just to familiarise what she can do.

She actually has a fairly broad set of moves, varying between support, healing and offensive moves, but nothing especially powerful.

>Charm
>Helping Hand
>Heal Pulse
>Recover
>Confusion
>Refresh
>Dragon Breath
>Safeguard

It's likely that she's most used to battling in tandem with her brother Latios and Henry's assertion that they're rather young is borne out as the power behind the attacks Latias launches at the targets set before her isn't spectacular, being more or less in between what Kay O-o and Volta can do, which is respectable, but it doesn't allay your anxiety about being singled out by assholes or Team Green redoubling their efforts regarding you to steal her from you.

>Fuck 'em. It's not doing you or Latias any good trying to train, battle and improve when it's safe.
>It's better to be safe than sorry. You'll train Latias in private until you're sure that she can handle herself.

No, discretion is definitely the better part of valor. At least for now.

That in mind though, training Latias is going to be your top priority any time you have a spare moment for the time being.

Gareth helps you set up an obstacle course with targets for Latias to weave through and hit, while he focuses on teaching his Feebas Water Gun.

After finding a stopwatch, you outline the exercise to Latias, directing her to fly through the obstacle course and knock over all the targets as fast as she can.

A process that's going to take some oomph, since you've set the folding targets to have a fair amount of resistance to them.

It quickly becomes apparent that when it comes to blasting things, Latias has a lot of potential. She's got a lot of raw power, but she needs to learn to focus it more effectively.

She's also not terribly agile, it seems, managing only to complete the course twice at speed over the course of the afternoon, but seeing her go in a straight line at speed confirms that she is undeniably fast, just lacking in finesse.

By the time you're finished, the sun is going down and Daz has returned, though he keeps any observations he might have to himself.

Gareth has had a rather productive afternoon himself, teaching his Feebas Water Gun and grooming it, before releasing the Riolu he befriended this morning and sitting to meditate with him while you run drills with Latias.

After a workout like that, you're sure Latias would appreciate a wipe down, so you take the towel from the grooming kit you bought and start giving her a thorough rub down.

Daz is still watching without comment, though at your look he comes over, evidently taking it for a 'go ahead and starts looking Latias over with a thoroughness that belies the interest of a trainer seeing a rare pokemon and reveals it to be that of an expert taking a professional interest.

"Never thought I'd see a Latias up close." He says as he finishes making a circuit around Latias. "Caught her from Lake Clarity, I guess?" He asks.

"Yeah, kind of a long story..." You say.

He nods.

"I know all about the ghost, don't you worry." He assures.

"Any advice for raising her?" You ask.

Daz shrugs.

"I don't think there's many trainers who could give you anything outside of general advice for raising a Legendary." He says. "If you want my two cents though, you'll take a week at some point and just focus purely on training her and helping her get stronger so you can put the boot into any asshole who tries to take her from you or make themselves look big by taking down a Legendary."

This lines up pretty well with your own plan, the question is when you're going to have that week.

"Alternatively..." Daz says. "The Gym Leader in Blackstump Town, Sigismund... He's a dragon master. I could give him a bell and see if he'd be willing to toughen her up." He offers.

You start in surprise.

You hadn't thought about that. Partly because with Ethan and Syurm, Ethan offered and he'd already saved your arse once. Asking a gym leader if they'll raise one of your pokemon for you sounds an awful lot like cheating, regardless of the context.

"By the way... aren't you on a timer with getting to those caves before they go dormant again?" You ask as the thought occurs to you.

"What?" Gareth asks, then it clicks what you're getting at. "Oh. No, my pilgrimage isn't time-sensitive." He says. "The caves 'awaken', for a given value of the term, based upon whether someone can attune their aura to them." He explains. "Whether my pilgrimage takes a week or a year, it doesn't matter, so long as I complete it." He adds.

"Ah, okay." You nod. "Just wanted to make sure I wasn't holding you up or anything." You explain.

"No need to worry about that." Gareth assured.

When you get back to the pokemon centre, it's to find Fie sitting with Holly, apparently grilling her on how she'd handle various scenarios in a battle, evidently having decided herself independent of Gareth that Holly would benefit from learning how to battle.

It is a serious undertaking, but a group of experienced trainers like them should be able to handle it. Even if it takes them some time.

It's plausible that you could even meet them at the lake taking the long way around, with how rough the tracks are touted to be.

Fie nods.

"Yeah, plus everyone loves a good cook up." She says. "It's early days yet in this challenge's season, so there's not been enough trainers around to really bother, I guess, but give it another few months and there'll be enough trainers going back and forth that pretty much every Centre is going to be having a barbeque night."

"Barbeque night?" You ask, taken aback.

Fie nods again.

"Yeah. Everyone pitches in ingredients or helps with meal prep and it's a real party." She explains. "It's a bit of an institution. You've got to get any ingredients you put in vetted of course, so no one gets food poisoning, but it's great. I guess Greenshoot just doesn't really get enough traffic to really do it often?" She asks.

"Not often, no." You confirm. "I think it's like... once a month or so during League season that happened back home?" You say, frowning as you think back. "More like a town dance, really, since it's mostly locals who go."

Fie just shakes her head sadly.

"That's a shame." She says. "Still, it'll be fun." She insists. "Jean and the others are going to hit up the grocers for stuff next. What do you have in mind?" She asks.

You think for a minute.

"Calamari pasta." You say, your mouth watering at just the thought.

"Oh, I know a recipe for that." Holly says excitedly, before outlining the ingredients she'll need for it, along with some dip and a salad to go with it.

It sounds ritzy as hell and even if it'll be a bit expensive, you're completely down for this.

"Awesome." Fie says once she's done jotting down the list of ingredients, along with a second one for another recipe for your pokemon.

Once this is done, you reconvene with Jean and the others and collate the lists, then divide up who's going to buy what.

You get put on the dairy products and within half an hour after an uneventful shopping trip, you're back at the pokemon center and you've folded out the kitchenette, catching the attention of the handful of other trainers in the pokemon centre, Team Green having apparently scarpered after the police had come looking for them.

They quickly filter over to help, volunteering their own ingredients to the meal prep.

The younger kids mostly volunteer snacks and finger foods, while the kids your age and the adults volunteer sauces and ingredients of actual substance, to the point where, when all is said and done, you've got a small banquet being made.

It's the work of about an hour of cooking, but between delegating and organising the many hands, you eventually get quite a respectable spread of food cooked up, between the classic sausages, hamburgers and bread, grilled fish, hot chips and salad.

In the midst of it, you follow Holly's directions as she helps you make a calamari pasta and a onion, lemongrass and sour cream dip to go with it, along with a tomato and gogoat's cheese salad.

When it's all done, everyone falls to chatting and socialising, the party spilling out onto the veranda as everyone lets their pokemon out to enjoy in the bounty as well, the nurse bringing out a few choice bits for pokemon with more specialised diets, like Rusty, who happily digs into a cast aluminium figurine with every indication of enjoyment.

Darren shows up halfway through and beams at the party going on, putting a six pack of beer down for the adults among the congregation and a Favourites pack for the kids to take their pick from and producing a trio of berry-topped pavlova to the delight of everyone.

It's not the only desert either:

You whipped up a batch of poached pears and one of the adults prepared a chocolate mousse, while another prepared a muesli slice.

July last year.

That post isn't wrong. I have been dragging my feet with this.

Trying to move things along faster now and I *think* I'm getting there.

I actually thought that because I've drafted and redrafted a novel, that a quest would be easy.

As it turns out, no, this is a whole other beast, 2nd person perspective aside.

I am learning from the experience and trying to improve how I'm handling things. The pacing in particular.
>>
>>5336298
July last year... Man have i lost my sense of time.

Indeed pacing is important.
You don't want to make it feel short like a Fairytail episode or drawn out like a One Piece chapter.
But even if it's slow right now i think it is alright.
You are giving enough exposition which is appreciated (something most writers let alone QMs can't properly do).

All the while while everyone's chatting and having a good time, you stick close to Fie and enjoy the atmosphere while she talks with Jean and the others, and Daz, when he comes over to say hello, looking between the both of you in surprise.

"Wouldn't have thought you;d hook up with a rookie trainer." He notes to Fie.

She shrugs.

"Alex might be a rookie, but he's not exactly wet behind the ears." She says. "And his lack of experience as a trainer isn't going to take long to remedy." She adds.

"Your dad's going to skin him alive though, you realise, right?" Daz says seriously.

"Well, he might've with the last few, but I've got faith in Alex." She says, before poking Daz in the chest. "And he won't if nbody tells him that we're a couple." She says meaningfully.

"My lips are sealed, Fie, don't worry." Daz says, throwing his hands up in surrender, before turning to you. "Just you look after yourself." He advises. "And learn how to fight. Norris is a sour old bastard."

"I can handle myself, but it never hurt anyone to learn more." You reply. "Besides, I could stand to widen my knowledge beyond just kicks." You add.

"Hah. Now I'm starting to see why Fie likes you." Daz says, then shifts as he apparently recalls something. "Oh yeah, if you're lookin' to do more training tomorrow, you can have the second arena for as long as you need. I doubt anyone's going to trash the main one too bad." He adds.

"Thanks."

Daz nods, before leaving you and Fie to talk with Jean and the others and enjoy the party while he does autographs for the kids and gives an impromptu skills workshop for them on the subjects of battling and raising their pokemon.

You stick with Fie while she talks, listening while they reminisce and go over the plan for the track hike, before they filter up to bed for a relatively early night.

You decide to let your team stay at the party as you go for a walk with Fie.

You don't go far, just to the court out the back of the center, but it's far enough for the chatter from the front to be pleasant background noise, distant and unobtrusive.

"Enjoying yourself?" Fie asks as you both settle on a bench and look up at the starry sky.

Clouds block a lot of the southern sky, painted silver and grey by the moon and sky and rendering the scene in an otherworldly sort of guise, lending everything an element of the fantastic.

You don't say anything much after that, just sit back and enjoy the quiet and watch the stars and the clouds rolling by to the south.

You stay there until the party seems to be winding down, before Fie stands with a yawn.

"We better turn in." She mumbles.

You nod, following her in.

The dishes have all been done and put away and most everyone's gone upstairs.

When you get to your room, you see that Holly and Gareth are already in bed, asleep.

She sighes appreciatively as you lather her hair up properly before leaning back so you can rinse her hair after its sat for a minute.

In the meantime, you take your time admiring Fie's back and her perky backside.

You might've seen Fie's back before, but her butt is a new treat and while you've massaged cream into her scars before, you haven't really just looked and admired the view.

Your initial impression of her as athletic was spot on. She's no bodybuilder, but you can make out the play of shifting muscle when she moves. It's mesmerising, almost.

And even if you're trying not to stare at her butt, it's hard not to, at least a little, if only because of the trust implicit in her standing in front of you like this, nude as the day she was born.

You've gotten the suds out by now, but you don't stop just yet, moving back up to her scalp and being rewarded with a grateful sigh as you massage it, loosening off some of the tension you feel wrought in it.

"I needed that." Fie admits contentedly once you're finished, before turning around and giving you a loose, friendly hug, leaning into you with a dreamy expression.

Neither of you move for a long minute and you can hear what sounds like an absolutely blistering lecture coming from the women's bathroom.

You see Fie smile and have to suppress your own laugh as well as you just luxuriate in the hot water for a minute or so, before regretfully turning it off and facing away to give Fie some privacy as she dries off.

She hands you your towel when she's done and you quickly change as well, feeling a little like you're in a dream.

Tonight, you dream of home.

Not of anything specific, just of home generally.

Memories, thoughts, impressions, feelings.

You're not homesick, but all the same, it's nice to be 'back' as it were.

Hell, even the memories of your mothers' disastrous attempts at cooking are fond and happy ones, though you don't think she'll ever live down nearly burning the kitchen down trying to make dinner that one time...

You blink awake what seems barely five minutes later.

The room is still dark and you feel something heavy resting on top of you, which upon your jostling, turns out to be Fie.

"Wha...?" She asks, blinking owlishly at you. "Oh... sorry, had to get up in the night. Was too tired to climb..." She mumbles. "You don't mind, right?"

"Hope I didn't snore." You say, pulling her closer to cuddle.

"No, you don't snore." Fie assures as she settles down next to you more comfortably.

"Oh. Well that's good." You say, before you lapse into a comfortable silence, basking in Fie's warmth at your side as much as she is yours.

Your alarm rings about half an hour later, prompting you all out of bed to change, before going down to breakfast.

There's no sign of Jean and the others, but they did say the night before they'd be leaving early to start their trek.

You eat quickly, before hurrying towards the gym. It's a cold morning and overcast, but the forecast isn't for rain today.

More's the pity in a sense, because now you're in town, it really wouldn't bother you all that much if it did and it'd certainly keep any Team Green stragglers away.

You reach the gym just in time to find Daz opening up.

He grins as you enter.

"I'll just finish opening up, then I'll pass on Siggy's reply." He tells you. "Spare arena's all yours for the day." He adds. "Just let me know if you want to challenge me at some stage." He adds.

I wanted to ask you yesterday but do you also practice some martial arts or did your arms get that strong just from heaving stones at dig sites? (We gotta start getting info on various martial arts soon anyway)

>Train Volta
Double Kick and a general accuracy training

Teach Kayo Dragonbreath with Latias helping, also accuracy pratice

Right, starting with Nika and Piker then.

Gimme rolls for both:

General conditioning for Nika.

Teaching Piker Water Gun. (Made easier due to practicing at home.)

How to start the morning...

You decide your first order of business is going to be Nika.

She might only be a few days old and Kathryn was very clear about no battling before she was at least a week old, but there's no reason why she can't start conditioning now.

Gareth, upon seeing what you're up to, even comes to your aid, releasing his own Riolu and apparently sharing some sort of discussion with him, before he trots on over and after a brief moment of he and Nike sizing one another up, the two start playing and rough housing, which is a lot better than what you'd had in mind, because it teaches Nika how to take a hit and recover, without putting too much strain on her, while also teaching her valuable lessons on what is and isn't accpetable when just playing.

(Part 1)
>>
>>5347937

With Nika now being adequately instructed, you turn your attention to Piker and soon find yourself throwing frisbee targets for him to practice Water Gun with, in competition shortly thereafter with Holly and Gareth's Feebas, turning it into another game.

Piker doesn't win, with Gareth's Feebas managing to hit the most targets before you have to go retrieve them all, but everyone's having fun and both Piker and Holly's Feebas have Water Gun down pat now.

>Next up, Kay O-o. Roll.

With Piker now having a proper means of battling, you leave him with Holly and Gareth's Feebas, along with Fie's Skrelp for the time being as the three Feebas awkwardly try to emulate the Skrelp in moving about.

Meanwhile, you release Kay O-o as Daz finally comes in to check on you, apparently finally having finished whatever he'd needed to do to open up fully. Likely paperwork and scheduling, if it's anything like running a pokemon center.

"No trouble?" He asks, looking around the arena as you release Latias and get her to show Kay O-o how to use Dragonbreath.

"No trouble." You confirm as Kay begins trying to imitate her. "And thanks for letting us train here today." You add.

Daz waives aside the thanks.

"No one else was using it." He says. "It's a bit early in the season yet. Another week or two and you'd have been flat out of luck, but for now, you can make the best of it." He says. "Now, Siggy's email..."

He forwards you a brief note containing a flat refusal to train Latias, which you'd expected and don't really mind anyway, along with some general advice on training Dragon types, which has you saving immediately.

The notes specifically on Latias are sparse, however, though they do make specific note of weight training and especially, the best way to train Latias and Latios for flying, along with a second note that he'd try and get hold of 'Latiasite' and 'Latiosite', but that he'd need to find a keystone by himself, whatever that meant.

Beyond that is an explicit note not to push Latias too hard or be too strict with her, as apparently, they have a tendency to resent being shouted at and that gentle admonishment and disappointment are more effective teachers.

There're also a few exercises for psychic powers and getting more out of moves like Dragonbreath and Dragon Pulse.

You're pulled out of your reading as a clattering reveals that Kay O-o has knocked the target he and Latias were practicing Dragonbreath on has tipped over. Evidently, Latias acting as teacher in this case has worked out for the best.

It's now mid-morning and you feel like you're making good progress. The only question is, what next?

>Teach Rusty Iron Head
>Teach Volta Double Kick
>Swap someone for Syurm and teach her Secret Power.

Can we NOT do Megas please? Like most of the megas are really stupid OP and honestly against the point of what megas were supposed to be. Mega Legendary's are fucking stupid, and NEVER should have been made. Sure things like Mega Kangaskhan, Mawile and others along the lines of those are actually amazing, taking a pokemon that was always terrible and making it good but shit like Mega Salamence and Mewtwo are just fucking stupid.
>>
>>5349152

That stuff's rare as shit in this, for context. Keystones are even rarer, hence why you don't recognise it immediately.

Also, you have the ability to come up with bullshit combos like Detect-Counter if you spend enough time practicing it.

Personally, I feel Megas are the least stupid gimmick out of the three Nintendo have presented.

We'll see what everyone else says though.

So, thoughts on Megas? G-Max is out by simple virtue of this not being Galar and Z-Moves are nixed by being similarly regional. Megas are the only gimmick that's really got any 'range' as it were.
>>
>>5349168
I'm for megas.
Given Alex's goals of earning money in the league, learning Aura by going along with Gareth on the pilgrimage, beating Fie's dad into submission and starting a farm i doubt he'll have enough time to go on a grand quest to search for it.

Anon... Roleplay not rollplay. We aren't on Showdown or Smogon nonsense.
>>
>>5349168
As long as its rare I am perfectly fine with megas. Make it so that the keystones are like regional rewards from tournaments/competitions or things like that. That way the people in charge generally know who has them or not. Because they are the ones that give them out.
Have the Mega Stones be rare rewards you have to go out of your way to get, use special favors, or spend a lot of money to acquire.

Megas only have "reach" due to they fact that GF tried to let regional gimmicks persist beyond their region in S/M. CLEARLY they thought better of it. Honestly we should do shit with auras rather than cribbing off of other regional gimmicks.

You decide that taking something approaching a break is in order and settle on practicing your Capoeira some.

You get all warmed up and are just about hitting your stride when Kay O-o wanders a little too close to you as you're in the middle of launching yourself in a kick.

He goes flying with a squeak, while you wind up off balance and flailing through the air.

You're only saved from another concussion by Fie shouting to Cinder, who plucks you out of the air in a lateral leap, leaving her holding you in a bridal carry.

"You okay, buddy?" You ask Kay O-o as he shakes himself off. He nods, before going back to doing sudden death runs.

Cinder puts you back on your feet, gives you a cluck and a friendly bump, earning a double-take from Fie, then saunters back to where she'd been beating the living daylights out of a heavy bag.

You shake your head before deciding to do some meditation.

As Gareth sees you sit down, he calls over Nika and his Riolu, along with his Druddigon.

Kay O-o joins you as well as you close your eyes and clear your head.

The aura comes easier now and as you sit and enter that zen-state, the riot of auras from the others takes on definition:

You can see outlines of everyone. Even Darren, in the neighboring arena, squaring off against a challenger.

You blink and the outlines are still there, which is even more of a surprise.

As you watch the ongoing battle next door, you see the aura of one of Darren's pokemon, a Geodude you think, turn from yellow, to red, to grey, before he recalls it and releases another pokemon, this one outlined by vibrant green.

"Oh, can you see it?" Gareth asks, surprised as he stirs himself. It's been about an hour, which is a good break. It'll be lunch tme soon.

"See what?" You ask, nonplussed. "Aura?"

"In a sense." Gareth says. "Once you get good enough, you can perceive the living energy of people and pokemon. It changes depending on a lot of stuff and everyone sees it differently, but it's really handy." He adds. "You really are a natural. It took me ages before I could maintain it, but you're doing that effortlessly."

"...Huh." You say intelligently. You hadn't realised, but you are drawing on it a little and as you release it experimentally, the outlines disappear.

When you reach for it again, it comes effortlessly as well, to your amazement.

"Well I'll be buggered." You say incredulously.

Gareth chuckles as he stands up.

"Keep this up and you'll be as good as me, if not better in no time." He says.

That's actually kind of a spooky thought, considering Gareth has been practicing this for most of his life.

>We'll see.
>Maybe.
>I doubt it. You've worked a lot longer and a lot harder at this than I have.

You can now do something analogous to this: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/deathwatch/

"I doubt it." You reply. "You've worked a lot longer and a lot harder at this than I have."

Gareth nods and some of the slight tension in his shoulders eases. Apparently, that thought had been bugging him.

"I'm still going to keep practicing though. If there's one thing my parents taught me, it's to never discard a talent or give up on developing skills." You add afterward.

"Hey, don't go stopping on my part." Gareth says. "This might not be a competition, but having someone to practice anything with makes it easier to learn."

It's nearly time to stop for lunch, but you reckon you've got time for one more training session.

That in mind, you decide to teach Rusty Iron Head.

You find a reference video and after reviewing it with him and practicing using Headbutt and Iron Head in tandem a couple times to make sure he's got the idea, you start him on a target.

On his very first attempt, he charges the target, there's an almighty *CLANG* as he puts a dent in it, then staggers back swaying and blinking out of sequence with a small, shallow dent in his head plate.

It seems he forgot to reinforce himself before charging the target and the resulting impact has given him a concussion. Which is impressive in a way, considering his Ability is Rock Head, which usually prevents that sort of thing. Like trainer like pokemon, you guess.

Nope. Rusty should probably take a break after that.

You recall him and make a quick call home, explaining what happened to your mother and swap him for Syurm, with a promise he'll be well looked after and take it easy until he's recovered.

This done with, you settle down for a lunchbreak.

Surprisingly, Darren joins you as you're heating up some leftovers from last night's party.

"How's the training going?" He asks as he tucks into some of his own leftovers.

"Alright." Holly says. "I think I could do with battling people now, more than just training though." She admits.

"Same." Gareth agrees.

Darren nods.

"And what about you two?" He asks, looking between you and Fie.

"I've just been working with Skrelp and advising." Fie says.

"Probably going to teach my pokemon a few more moves and challenge you after." You add.

"There's no rush." Darren says. "But you do you. If you want to challenge me this afternoon, then by all means."

You finish lunch shortly and head back out with Syurm.

And cleaning up after practicing the field portion of it is a tedious, time-consuming process, having to clean the targets and equipment she winds up cludging together to form a shelter with her silk.

When that's done however, you've got enough time to start on Razor Leaf, though you don't make much headway with it before your pokedex beeps, informing you it's now mid afternoon and you've got a choice to make.

You decide to press on and keep Syurm practicing while you give her encouragement and direction as she practices.

It's a good thing you do as well, because she starts really getting the hang of it after about fifteen minutes and not long after that, you're satisfied that she's got it down pat.

"Great job." You say after she's feathered the target with sharp leaves for the fourth consecutive time before she webs up to your shoulder as you release Volta next.

She purrs happily and stretches, before tilting her head curiously as you show her a video of Double Kick.

"This is what we're going to practice." You say, readjusting the target for her.

She looks at it for a beat, before charges and slams it with a pair of kicks not unlike a Rapidash bucking, knocking back with a thud.

"Alright, nice one." You say, resetting it before she does it again with her front legs this time.

You reset the target a couple times more and both times she kicks it hard enough to knock the target down before you finally nod and ruffle her main, praising her for how quickly she picked up the move.

"It's starting to get kind of late." Holly notes.

She's been rather busy herself this afternoon, mainly focusing on general training rather than moves, but she's been making steady progress.

"How about that battle?" She asks.

What ensues as you order Piker to tackle in return is a complete farce of a battle.

Neither Feebas is particularly nimble, but seemingly mostly through luck, Piker manages to tackle Beauty into submission, though he's somewhat battered in the aftermath yourself.

You still feel the both of them have learned valuable lessons from the experience though.

"Okay, go Checkers." Holly says, releasing her Espurr now.

You don't need anyone to tell you that Piker isn't winning this match up.

The question is, who you'll send in.

Bug bite should take care of it.
Also time for Syrum to evolve as well.

"Alright Syurm, you're up." You say, releasing her opposite.

She chitters and looks around before focusing on the Espurr.

"Bug Bite." You order.

"Fake Out." Holly orders, resulting in Syurm flinching as Checkers darts in and tags her, before darting back out of range of retaliation.

It's not done that much damage, but it was a solid hit, nonetheless.

It also abruptly occurs to you that you've got no idea what Checkers can actually do.

Not that it'll matter if you knock her out quickly enough.

"Electro Web." You order.

"Safeguard." Holly says simultaneously.

Checkers projects a shimmering barrier around itself as Syurm spits a web of golden, sparking silk, which passes through and shocks her badly, leaving her looking a little scorched, but still in the fight.

"Swift!" Holly orders in the aftermath, apparently dispensing with setting up in favor of damage now that Syurm's scored a hard hit.

Not that you can really blame her.

"Protect." You order and Syurm manifests the barrier without issue, intercepting the spray of stars from Checkers without issue.

"Try again, Swift!" Holly orders.

You're not sure if she's frazzled or if Checkers is in a bad way and she's hoping going on the offensive will save her, but either way, Protect probably isn't going to save you again.

"Secret Power." You order.

You've seen Syurm use it enough this afternoon to know what to expect here and she delivers:

She glows briefly, then Checkers is pelted with a barrage of rocks and knocked sprawling, ending the battle in a decidedly comfortable victory to you.

Holly sighs as she returns Checkers before offering you a smile.

"Thanks, Alex. We should do this again sometime." She says. "I learned a lot."

You should focus on teaching your team a few useful moves first.
Checkers is fast and can hit hard with psychic moves so you should probably focus on that.

"Anytime." You assure. "You might want to consider teaching her a few more moves first." You advise. "She's a strong psychic type, so maybe focus on a few moves like that first."

Holly nods.

"Fie said I might want to do that." She agrees. "I'll see what I can find."

You nod, before checking the time.

You've got time for one last round of training, so you release Syurm, Volta and Kay O-o and quickly set up a three-way tug of war for them and outline the drill.

"...And, go." You say.

I mean not every day we get a pokemon quest where the trainers naturally take to a bug mon as a team member without going for the most broken Scizor line.
Guess we ditched that attitude early.

This isnt the games. Speed isnt the god stat here, we have as many moves as we can reasonably teach to any/all pokemon, and we can directly stat train any mon to MAX like its gen 1 all over again. This isnt Smogon levels of stupid, and banned lists and whatever.

Immediately, the rope goes taught as Syurm, Volta and Kay O-o pull.

It remains taut and straining for a long minute before Kay O-o backs off and it's down to Volta and Syurm, neither of whom seem willing to budge an inch.

Despite Volta having the advantage of having evolved, Syurm is stubbornly where she was when this started and shows no sign of moving as the rope creaks and Volta digs her feet into the ground and pulls, achieving precisely nothing as Syurm remains exactly where she was.

The rope groans and groans, before Volta slips and flops onto her belly before dropping the rope in defeat.

Syurm is still sat exactly where she has been this entire time and chatters happily as she drops the rope and peers at Volta and Kay O-o, who look at her with bewilderment.

"Good job, all of you." You say as Syurm webs up to your shoulder. "Especially you, Syurm." You add.

She's by far the lightest and smallest of the three and yet, she beat both Kay O-o and Volta handily.

The latter two look chagrined, but theyquickly forget about it as you pet them in turn and praise them for the effort they've put in before returning all three of them.

It's late now though, so it's probably time you got going.
