In the previous thread, you finished the beach episode, decided to stay in town while your non-bubble friends went on a trip around the country, and checked the police station to catch up with what was going on. You can’t let things go unsolved! At the moment, you’re talking with the Price Brothers, and the conversation is turning weird!

“Could you please inform me of what type of woman you like?” Maximum Price sounds demanding even though he’s trying to ask nicely.

W-What?” Vanessa is confused!

You’re confused.

Gamadiel is confused.

Yareli is impassive.

…Maximum Price is being serious. He wants you to answer with the truth and nothing but the truth. Strangely, many people have been asking this to you lately, so you’re prepared! But the thing is… Is it the truth what you want to say?

How do you respond?

>Be true to yourself! You like them loyal, and with big thighs as a great bonus!
>Lie by saying whatever you think Maximum finds more pleasing! Try to imagine what type of woman this evil-looking man likes, maybe something like a vampire or a possum!
>Describe Yareli while making eye contact with her for fun. Maybe you can get a reaction from her…
>Act weirded out and don’t answer. Why bother to play along?

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“What I look for in a partner is loyalty above all.” You’re a man of principles. “Great thighs are an amazing bonus too.” You adjust your glasses as your cheeks almost tint rosy. Your Courage is high enough for you to keep your composure.

“What an answer! I like your conviction.” Gamadiel cannot help but laugh about how prepared you were to answer. There wasn’t any hesitation from you.

Loyalty...” Maximum strokes his beard. He seems to like that part of the answer.

“Great thighs…?” Lieutenant van Zullekom checks her own body to make sure she fits the bill, she pats them and squints her eyes. You’re not sure if she fits the bill for the first (and most important) bit, but you’ll admit her legs are meaty.

“Lieutenant.” Yareli’s cold gaze makes her superior shiver.

“Oh! Apologies! I lost focus on the topic at thigh! I-I mean, at hand!” Vanessa said something when it didn’t matter anymore. “Oh dearie me…”

“Har har har! Don’t scare her like that, sweetheart!” Gamadiel wants everyone to get along! Though, he’s suspiciously acting overprotective towards the lieutenant.

“I’ll refrain from doing so. But it’d be easier if she wasn’t distracted.” Yareli is poking her own thighs. you wonder if those two are wondering about their thighs’ quality. You wouldn’t mind letting them know your opinion if it wasn’t so creepy.

“Any specific reason on why you’re asking?” Maybe you can get to know the enemy a little bit more.

“If I have to guess, Max is trying hard to act casual. To be a lil’ bit loose! A people’s person and whatnot.” Gamadiel is trying to change topics.

“I’m here, dear brother. I can answer the question myself.” Maximum is a little irked by his brother’s comment.

“C’mon, Max, you’re a man of one thousand excuses! What I’m sayin’ is closer to the truth, isn’t it?” Gamadiel is being condescending.

Huh, can you believe it? You feel some modicum of empathy for the future baddie. What a twist. Not enough for you to care though.

How do you respond?

>“I’d like to hear from him anyway.” Excuses or not, Maximum Price has something to say.
>“Why are you like this? What’s up with you?” There’s something off about Gamadiel and you want to know what it is.
>“I’d like to throw the question back at you two.” You wanna know what they’re looking for!
>“What’s up with rich people and asking people’s types?” You know two obscenely rich people, and both asked this weird question!

“I’d like to hear from him anyway.” You not only think this is the politest way to go on about this, you feel like you need to throw Maximum a ball to get this rolling.

“Very well!” Gamadiel raises both hands in the air like he’s not going to intervene. He’s excited for what’s to come.

“Thank you, Son of Stinky.” Maximum appreciates your gesture; the tone of his voice softens. You’d like for them to stop with the stinky stuff, but for the sake of progressing this conversation, you’ll let it pass for now. “I previously stated that I’m interested in the opinion of the youth. I see you as the harbingers of progress, you understand? The old guard is keeping their contemporaries blind from the issues of the future, unable to mitigate the impact of what our country will have to endure. It’ll depend on those whose minds are open to change to carry the burden, but I don’t want my faith misplaced in a cluster of savages, you know?”

“Right…” Savages, huh? You wonder if he considers you one after your answer.

“He enjoys using those insults plenty.” Vanessa murmurs behind you. You didn’t notice when she hid there!

“Our leaders’ unwavering narrow view and the simpletons who follow their mantra without a hitch will cost us greatly. They’re trash cluttering our beautiful land.” Maximum takes a deep breath. “On the other hand, the youth is pliable. They’re trash, but they can be recycled, you see? Turn useful, you know? Waste has its purpose, but not all of it is redeemable, some will have to be disposed of, you follow me? I must know how flexible they are. I have to test them.”

“And that’s why you asked what my type is?” You raise an eyebrow because you fail to make sense of what he’s saying.

Maximum nods. He’s a strange guy. You share glances with the women standing next to you.

“…And there we go, you made Max ramble again.” Gamadiel shakes his head. He hated every second of it.

“Dear Brother, you’ll get used to it eventually.” Maximum wants to continue with another speech.

You guess you’re stuck with them until the lawyer they talked about arrives…

How do you respond?

>Ask Maximum what he thinks about your answer.

“You two don’t seem to know each other well.” You believe it’s odd, they’re brothers, aren’t they? You know too much about Amelia for your own good, and you didn’t even want to.

“Me and Max? What are you talking about? We’re droplets from the same fountain!” Gamadiel dismisses your observation for laughs.

“Truly identical.” It’s difficult for you to tell, but Yareli deadpans.

“Dear Brother, do not feign ignorance. If he’s astute enough to come to this conclusion, it’s pointless to pretend otherwise.” Maximum is always at odds with how his brother manages the conversation.

“If you say so!” Gamadiel doesn’t think it takes too much to realize. “We’re half-breeds, Stinky Jr. Half-siblings, but full brothers. Right, Max?” It’s similar to you and Amelia! But like your mother always used to say, there’s no such thing as ‘half-siblings’. You’re either part of the same family or not.

“Yes, we were raised by our own lovely mothers, didn’t grow up together, you see? We went to the same academy, the place we met for the first time, at age 14, at the request of our father: Gamadiel Price Sr.” Judging by the way he talks about him, Maximum has a lot of respect for his own father.

“Now we’re stuck here tryin’ to bail out Max’s crush...” Gamadiel turns his gaze towards the jail room.

Do not speak about Ophelia in such a manner.” Maximum twitches his head towards Gamadiel. It’s a sensitive topic for him. “She’s an individual I hold deep respect for, who helped me grow into who I am today, you understand? A dear friend of mine, you know? Romantic feelings are beneath us. And I’m only here to request the item she was holding for both of us, dear brother. I’m not here obstructing justice. Trash *needs* to be taken out, regardless of my feelings on the matter.”

“Still hurt your babysitter left you dry, huh?” Gamadiel is trying to get into his brother’s nerves for reasons that elude you.

“Leaving your responsibilities behind is something you can relate to, right, Gamadiel?

“Har Har Har! You got me there!” Gamadiel takes it well.

“Besides, she performed her duties like a consummated professional until her final day. Which is why I believe in her innocence, you see?” Maximum isn’t amused. Their sibling relationship is quite rocky.

“Too bad evidence says otherwise. Right, Lieutenant?” Gamadiel smirks at Vanessa.

“Yes, absolutely!” Vanessa didn’t think she’d be part of the conversation.

“We’ll see how the events unfold.” Maximum isn’t as assured on Ophelia’s culpability.

“…You don’t have much in common, huh?” You try to break the tension by saying something that adds to the fire. Go you…

“Like I said, we’re tears from the same face.” Gamadiel shrugs like this is normal.

“Your lawyer has arrived, gentlemen.” Yareli informs the duo, then turns to her superior. “As well as the Judge, and the detective sent by the city, Lieutenant.”

“Oh yes! I must attend them right away!” Vanessa walks towards the new arrivals.

“What are they doing here?” You whisper at Yareli. You’re lost on the logistics of the case.

“The trial will be tomorrow, held at the town hall. We’re holding the preparations.” Yareli dryly responds.

Shit, they have just one day of preparation?! What’s up with that?!

The Price’s lawyer resembles someone you know intimately… Someone who thinks Cruises are Steamboats for some reason!

But that’s not the only person who is vaguely familiar, that detective over there looks like a dick… no, like a double dick! But, he doesn’t look like one. What an oxymoron. And what a strange feeling, you do not know how to convey it. And the Judge looks familiar too… like a lost friend from long ago.

What do you do?

>Stick with the Prices for a little bit more. You’re going to meet their lawyer. You think they won’t mind having you around.

“It was a pleasure, thank you for granting us some of your time. Now if you excuse us…” Maximum nods to acknowledge the pleasant time he had with you all before departing.

“Hey! We put him on the spot in front of two nice ladies, and we’re not going to dignify him with our takes? I’d love to hear their answer too!” Gamadiel complains to his brother who is too busy now with their lawyer. He shakes his head and sighs. “I guess that ship sailed once the lieutenant left. It was fun, guys.” He extends his hand.

“I’m sure my superior feels the same way.” Yareli shakes the man’s hand. Gamadiel turns to you.

Not wanting to look impolite, you shake his hand as well.

“By the way…” Gamadiel drags you closer and starts whispering. “Max likes them well-endowed, and, uh, thirsty for social reforms…?” He couldn’t find the right words to describe it. “And personally, I like a chick who has my back at all times. Har Har Har!” He smacks your back before walking away, joyful to finally say his piece. In your opinion, both guys are weird in their own way.

“I’ll show them the way to the criminal’s cell. It was nice seeing you, Phil.” Yareli is as impassive as ever. It’s hard for you to take her words at face value, but deep down, you feel like she’s being truthful.

This doesn’t mean this is time for you to go! No, sir! You’re going to sneak by Vanessa’s side to meet the two new individuals you feel are vaguely familiar!

…She’s standing a few feet from them, the tip of her fingers bouncing from each other under the cloth of her gloves, waiting for an opening.

“Why are you standing here…?” You wonder. There’s nothing for you to sneak into if nothing is going on!

“Oh! Mr. Noon! Well, they’re so enthralled discussing the painting on the wall that it doesn’t feel right to interrupt!” Vanessa didn’t expect you to show up! She’s glad to have you around.

“Captain van Zullekom!” The older gentleman (the one you think is the judge) is jubilant as he approaches the goofy policewoman. Now after some time to think, he reminds you of your former friend Wilvy just much older and... alive. You cannot be sure until you hear his last name though. “It’s always so terrible to meet under these circumstances, but seeing you again is always a silver lining.”

“Judge Middleton! A pleasure indeed! You read the files already? As well prepared as always!” Vanessa is pleasantly surprised by the Judge’s effort. “We’re counting on you to deliver swift justice!”

Middleton? That’s the clue you need…!

…You’ve realized you can’t remember Wilvy’s last name. Perhaps you were all terrible friends to each other and not only one way. You use your Knowledge Lv 4 to sink into deeper research inside your brain and have realized that Wilvy’s last name is, in fact, Middleton! And that you’re an asshole for forgetting! Hooray for stats!

“Captain, allow me to introduce you to Detective Dale Wright, he works for the SCI, he was sent by the City’s Central Headquarters to ensure my safety.”

SCI is the Security Committee of Investigation, another police/security branch. Frankly you don’t know the big difference between them and regular policemen, aside from them not doing grunt work.

“Wright.” There’s disdain in Vanessa’s voice.

“Lieutenant Zullekom.” Mr. Wright smirks like a… dickhead. Just like Double Dick! This is Richard’s father, the one who died under mysterious reasons! Or, you think they are. You can’t recall. You just remember that dick laughing his ass off at your mom exploding.

“It’s van Zullekom, Wright.” Vanessa corrects him.

“My mistake.” Wright smiles at her annoyance.

“You two are well acquainted? How surprising.” Judge Middleton didn’t know about their past together.

“We’ve exchanged pleasantries before, yes.” Wright has an annoying uber positive tone in his voice. “We’re old pals from her city days.”

“I see! I can tell your comradery has turned a bit sour.” Judge Middleton crosses his arms and bobs his head. “Who is the young gentleman standing next to you, Captain?”

“Hi, there!” You casually handwave them both.

“O-Oh! This bright student’s name is Phil Noon! He was assigned to work under my tutelage for an extensive period of time, to learn more about the wonderful branch of law enforcement we’re part of! It’s for a School Program I volunteered in! He dreams of being a policeman!” Vanessa comes up with one heck of an excuse. You know it’s better than ‘he’s around’, but…

“Yeah, that.” You sound reassuring…

“You’re quite lucky, young man. There’s so much to learn about Captain van Zullekom. One of the best I’ve ever seen in my long years working for the government.” Judge Middleton praises Vanessa as absolutely nobody has ever done before in your presence. “Legendary among the force. A true patriot and a symbol of justice.”

…You sure?” You ask without any hint of irony. It makes Dale Wright laugh.

“Yes, absolutely. I’m sure the Captain isn’t keen on sharing such details, she’s humble like that.” Judge Middleton smiles. And he doesn’t seem to be lying but…

What do you do?

>Ask for details! Did Vanessa really do something formidable? Or is it all a giant misunderstanding?

“Please, I wanna hear it! It’s the only way I’m ever gonna know.” You ask politely. He said Vanessa isn’t going to open her lips, so…

“I like your enthusiasm, son.” Judge Middleton bobs his head. “Captain van Zullekom was decorated for her immaculate work as the leader of the most important bodyguard unit below the presidential level. Defending distinguished guests from renowned criminals around the globe. For example, I don’t know if his name still makes rounds, but she was not only capable of deterring the infamous and enigmatic assassin Spy Dragon]‘s strike, but she’s the only person to have ever wounded him. Two scars on his chin, right here.” Wilvy’s relative points at his own face to exemplify where the wounds are in excruciating detail. “The only known details we have about this criminal’s appearance is thanks to the Captain. He’s still at large.”

Spy Dragon? What kind of name is that for an assassin? Wait, it couldn’t be… a spicy individual, right?

“Those were nothing more than lucky shots, I assure you...” Vanessa looks dejected, like the act doesn’t deserve its praise.

“Hoho, I ended up fixated on one story, apologies!” The Judge notices himself.

“Judge Middleton, how come you know where the man was specifically wounded?” Detective Wright is smelling something fishy.

“Captain van Zullekom told me herself, of course.” Without a hitch, the Judge dispels any notion of tomfoolery.

“How compelling! I thought she was ever so reserved to go into such details.” Mr. Wright smiles. He doesn’t buy the answer. “Seems to me that once you change ranks, your lips get looser.” He turns to Vanessa.

“E-Excuse me? I don’t recall ever detailing my experience to the judge!” Vanessa won’t be anyone’s fall girl!

“A thought-provoking response.” It’s like Dale Wright was waiting for those exact same words from the Lieutenant. He now turns to you, both hands on his hips, smiling. “Hey, Mr. Noon, with this contradiction in mind, what would this implicate about our Judge here?”

How do you respond?

>“That the Judge is lying?” You don’t need to point out more without proof.

“You shouldn’t use me to implicate someone.” You’ll refrain from saying anything.

“Hey! My intentions aren’t nefarious!” Dale Wright didn’t expect *your* answer though. “It’s a deductive challenge to exercise the mind for fun.”

“In my court, I’d consider it hearsay.” Judge Middleton scoffs. You don’t think that’s how it works but you’re no lawyer.

“Middleton, don’t get tense. I wouldn’t be working alongside you if I ever thought of you as an evildoer. I stick to my principles.” Dale’s eyes are dancing on Vanessa. That’s shade being thrown. “As I should stick these thoughts to myself.”

“Please do.” Middleton didn’t enjoy Dale’s little game.

“I made things a little tense, so how about another game of deductive reasoning instead?” Dick’s father is really trying hard here.

“No.” Vanessa doesn’t want to play along as she waves her hand in front of her face.

“It’d take a minute, don’t tell me you don’t enjoy games no more, Zullekom?”

“That’s private information!” Vanessa acts like her embarrassing pictures are being displayed or something.

“I-Is it…?” You wonder when knowing that someone is playful became an important security matter.

“Why do you think our Lieutenant here likes wearing gloves?” Dale is already smiling.

“Because it’s cold outside?” Judge Middleton doesn’t sound enthusiastic but plays along like he’s used to thanks to his job.

You don’t entertain him with an answer.

“She wants to hide the ring she should be so proud of. Knowing her, she probably doesn’t like wearing any.” Dale opens his arms like a showman. This is awkward, but Vanessa is fairly impressed. “Am I wrong?”

“Detective Wright, I implore you to keep your antics to yourself, we have work to do. Captain, please take us to your office.” Judge Middleton walks off. His patience ran out as soon as Dave tried to imply something bad about him.

“Y-Yes, sir!” Vanessa salutes like a grunt. “Well, my dear student, you cannot partake in this secret meeting, so you’re dismissed! Great work today!” She now salutes you and trails behind the judge.

“Tough crowd.” Dale Wright smiles. “I apologize for making it awkward, Mr. Noon.” He sounds genuine. “You know, there’s this thing about your last name that… forget it, they’re waiting for me. Until next time, cadet.” He scurries away too.

‘Goodbye, poking stick’ you mutter mentally as you step out of the shiver-inducing police station back to the wilderness of the streets. There’s no reason for you to stay inside anymore, everyone is too busy, and you’re not planning on stealing important documents or some weird stuff... yet.

“You’re something my imagination has filled my mind with, a filled abyss, and I need you to know that.” Berninie is being spookinie.

“What?”

“You don’t fit here.” He smiles. “You’re not real. But are you? And if you are. Where are we?”

“…” You identify the numerous escape routes you can take. “Uh…”

“Tell me something I don’t know, please. Make me smile.” Ammirati speaks calmly.

How do you respond?

“What do you know that you don’t know?” You go for the funnier option and mess with him.

Bernie’s head bobs down, eyes locked on the ground, he raises both hands, drops them and puts them behind his back. He then twirls in place. He raises his head to show his white teeth like none of what you said affected him.

“Tell me something I don’t know, please.” He repeats himself as if nothing happened.

“Again, what do you know that you don’t know?” You cheekily repeat.

“Is that your answer?” Ammirati stays calm. It seems the situation sinks in on him.

“I mean it’s more like a counter-question.” You get technical.

“Your face shows me answers I shouldn’t have. You speak in ways that remind me of myself. You’re not supposed to fit in. You’re an alien.” Ammirati’s rambling continues to make little sense to you, but you can determine there’s a logic to it just by the way he’s talking. Reminds you of your dad’s drunk rants. Also, damn, Grace would hate to hear you’re from outer space.

“Okay.” You almost said it in the same detached way Amelia does. But you’re no dork, so you keep your regular ‘okay’.

“Nothing here surprises me. Nothing. But you.” Ammirati isn’t able to speak clearly. “I need to know if there’s more to this. Surprise me again. Do what the others can’t. You’re the inconsistency. Don’t be like them.”

“Uhh…” You, again, survey around for escape routes.

This time around, you see a familiar face walking around… It’s Gautier! He’s seemingly loitering without purpose.

What do you do?

>“I said it already: What do you know that you don’t know?” Act like this is a riddle he needs to figure out.
>“Sorry, my friend Gautier is here, you know, the guy who tied you up! Hey Gauty!” Use your good friend as an escape rope.

“It’s not a surprise if your expecting a surprise. Also, your more surprising.” You’re going to test if he can magically guess you’re using the wrong ‘your’. How does it work when you’re saying it? You don’t know! What would this accomplish? Something! What’s exactly? You don’t know yet. But it’ll be important, you’re sure of it.

“Expecting a surprise raises the bar for said surprise to be… surprising.” Berninie believes you’re being redundant on purpose so he follows along. He couldn’t see under the façade of your intricate wordplay! He’s no clairvoyant! “I’ll ask you a final time: Please, tell me something I don’t know.”

“I said it already: What do you know that you don’t know?” You repeat yourself feigning that these words have a deeper meaning, like a strange riddle needing to be figured out for enlightenment. “I don’t have to say more.” You continue acting mysteriously and otherworldly like a zebra.

“…It’s clear now.” Bernie has come to a conclusion. Behind his aloof smile, you can sense his tension. “Deep in me, the unwelcomed yet hilarious defeat I received left a wound. I feel again. I’m alive. How exciting. Thank you, Visage of my Subconsciousness.” Bernie lets the air out of his lungs.

For a brief moment, you felt like you were inside an unpigmented prison cell.

“Right…” You noticed how relieved he looks. It’s like Bernie answered his own questions with the help of your incoherent ramble. Is this how a tarot reader feels on average…? It’s certainly a different approach to your regular pseudo-psychiatrist sessions.

“Enjoy the night.” Satisfied, the creepy kid who’ll grow up to be a full-time creep disappears through the night the same way he came in.

You blink for a solid ten seconds before shaking your head and resuming control.

Gautier is walking aimlessly past the station, he’s probably going home.

Whatever. You don’t care enough about Berninie to try to understand what just happened, he’s a weird guy and you’re going to leave it at that for the moment. As for Gautier, you can’t see him around anymore! Guy is fast! Not as frighteningly fast as his (probably) brother, Flint. But you know you’ll find him later if you try to find him.

As for what to do now, there’s a key character missing from the police station… Indeed, Houda Lan should be in jail too! Also, Kobashi is missing. You’re going to pay him a visit! You resist the urge of taking Yareli’s bike and walk there. Good thing your knowledge is high enough that it’s easy for you to remember the town’s layout after passing so much time outside.

Several minutes later, you’re outside his front door, you raise your fist to knock on the door – but you hear two distinctive screams filled with panic rising in intensity as they approach the entrance from the inside. The door bursts open, It’s Kobashi and his new foster kid Fiora, both acting hysterical! The policeman is juggling something in between two pieces of paper – whatever it is, he throws at you...

“Hey, what’s going—” You realize what just happened. Doesn’t matter if your courage is level 5, you weren’t prepared for being ASSAULTED BY A SPIDER!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

THE SPIDER LIES RIGHT UNDER YOUR GLASSES, YOU CAN SEE IT CRAWLING! IT’S TOO CLOSE!

“I-I GOT THIS!” Kobashi launches himself to help…!

“GAH—!” You shout as the stupid policeman tackles you down for no good reason, bringing you both down to the ground. The spider is suspended in the air thanks to the whiplash, and lands right on Kobashi’s back!

“IT’S BEHIND ME! THE MIRACLE OF NATURE IS ON ME!” The idiot cop stands straight and drops the spider back onto you. “WHERE DID IT GO?! WE NEED TO PROTECT HIM!”

“IT’S ON MR. GLASSES!” Fiora shouts as she spins around full of fear.

“W-WHO’S MR. GLASSES?! WAIT, I’M MR. GLASSES!” You shout realizing you’re back in the danger!

“OH NO! THERE ARE TWO SPIDERS!” Fiora shouts. “AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”

“AAAAH!!!” You shout, intelligibly.

“RELAX! I HAVE THIS UNDER CONTROL! AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!” Kobashi did not have this under control.

Several minutes later the mayhem ends, you’ve plummeted on the couch inside the house, the spiders won, you don’t want to talk about it...

“Hey, Phil! How is it going, buddy?” Kobashi offers you a cup of coffee. He promised to make it up to you with some apology desserts. Who does he think you are? Nina? Nariko? You’ve realized how condescending offering food after a disaster might feel. “This is Fiora, by the way!”

“…H-Hi there, Mr. Phil.” Fiora is a shy girl. She’s hiding behind Kobashi. “I-It’s nice to meet you.”

How do you respond?

>“I’ll never forget this.” You might let it go at one point, but not now, not today.
>“You don’t have to. And nice to meet you, Fiora.” Stay positive, the spiders are gone, and so is your anger.

“Hey there, Fiora.” You pat Fiora’s head because you’re a monster with no awareness of consent after being spooked by a spider. Fiora doesn’t know how to respond to your affection. “Can you make something for a decently large group instead?” You ask Kobashi.

“Sure, I took some, uhm, supplies from Vanessa’s house.” Kobashi acts like he’s a criminal like his superior. “How big?”

“For like…” You count the tomatoes, Matilda and Oliver with your fingers. “Seven people, total.”

“Did you forget to count yourself?” Kobashi wonders. It’s like it happens often to him.

“…Eight people total.” Fuck, the scare really made your brain malfunction. You drink some coffee to recover some mental fortitude… Do you even like coffee? “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome!” Kobashi will make sure to make a great dessert. “Here it is.” He drops down a box!

“Huh?” You know the guy is good, but that’s way too fast!

“Leftovers from yesterday.” Kobashi remembers the torture session in Vanessa’s home. “There’s no way Fiora can eat it all even if she tries.”

“A-And I really don’t wanna try…” Fiora shakes her head.

“Why? You don’t like it?” You think Kobashi’s food is decent enough! “N-Not that it’s healthy for you to eat an entire cake.” No matter how much anyone insists (And you know people that have insisted (you won’t name any names)), it is not!

“…I haven’t done anything to deserve them today.” Fiora feels guilty.

“Enough of that, Fiora. It’s not about deserving them, these things are yours.” Kobashi grabs the adoptee’s shoulders. “Except this cake, this one is Phil’s.”

“I-I’ll be on my best behavior to not lose them! I promise!” Fiora nods.

“That’s not it, Fiora.” Kobashi seems exhausted explaining it.

“I-I’m sorry for being too dumb to understand, don’t take my sweater! I’ll do better!” Fiora panics.

What do you do?

“Fiora, it’s your sweater.” Kobashi reassures her by patting her head.

“B-But…” Fiora doesn’t know if she screwed up or not.

“You can lower your guard a bit, trust Kobashi.” You encourage the little girl!

“He’s polite, yes. But everyone is until they get mad…” Fiora trembles.

“What you need is to chill a bit. Look, Fiora.” You take out a coin. From where? How did you get it? Who knows! You play with the coin in your hands… then, bam! You turn it invisible. “It’s gone!”

“Ohm…” Fiora isn’t comfortable. “Y-You’re a psychic too?”

“I mean, anyone can learn magic. You don’t have to be a psychic.” You try to play it off as a mere trick as you turn the coin back to visible. Kobashi is watching attentively as well, and is surprised by your moves. “See?”

“B-But, that means you’re not special.” Fiora prefers being all powerful. “You must be a psychic to be special, that’s what my mother said. And to be really great, one needs to meet their potential.”

“Everyone is special in their own way, meeting your potential or not.” You’ve seen enough corny movies to know how to respond to a child.

“If everyone’s special, nobody is.” Fiora rejects the notion altogether.

“Eh, kinda? We’re all good at something. Sometimes we get to the same place from different routes.” You grab the empty cup and turn it invisible too.

“Wo-Wow, yours are truly psychic powers! It’s not that different from what I do.” Fiora doesn’t even believe you’re pulling tricks; she’s only seeing the magic for what it is. She’s happy, excited even.

“What makes you think it’s not a clever trick?” You ham it up for the act.

“I-I can see your energy fluctuating!” Fiora won’t be fooled. “Mom says I’m unique among the unique. My psychic perception is unmatched. I-I mean to say my mother…”

“Psychic powers, huh?” You don’t want another name for this shit…

“S-Sorry, it irked my mother as well. I know I must call them Spiritual Abilities. But I read a book about psychics and saw my abilities in it for the first time, and it stuck with me… Mother told me the book was fundamentally wrong in every conceivable way, but it made sense to me.” Fiora is very interested in you. “How was it for you? Having your powers, Mr. Phil?”

You found a way to connect with Fiora.

“Technically speaking, these are not my powers. But I like them.” You sound vague to not raise more questions. “They’re what they are, they don’t make me special.”

“You don’t look like you’re channeling another spirit’s power…” The little Fiora knows a lot about how these powers work and manifest. Makes you wonder if she can see your flame, but if she did, she would’ve mentioned it, right? “I didn’t know you could do that. How does that not make you exceptional?”

“We all have our perks, Fiora. That’s what Phil is trying to say.” Kobashi is trying to use this as a teaching moment. “Nobody can bring a baddie behind the bars better than I.” One part of you thinks it’s not appropriate to say after taking her so-awful foster mother into jail…

“And maybe you didn’t know it was possible.” You wiggle your eyebrows.

“A-Are you saying you made this possible?! You’re incredible!” Fiora is in awe.

“No, I meant that your mom likely didn’t know or teach it to you yet.” You shrug. “I’m no expert either, so who knows?”

“You didn’t have a teacher?” Fiora can’t imagine it.

“It’s complicated.” You didn’t know you could do it, until you did, even though Philonune taught you the basics. This stuff is more intuitive than you’d like to admit. “Tell me about yours! What did your mom teach you?”

“A lot.” Fiora can tell you’re curious, and she’ll try to milk your interest for her own amusement. “Everything to realize our potential!”

You’ll have to be a little more specific to get some answers.

What do you do?

“How did she know you had potential?” You believe this information will prove useful in present times! To find people with special abilities like you before getting Philonune, Bradford or Kata.

“Mommy—, I mean, Mother had the funny glasses. Ohm, I should say, the Spiritual Goggles.” Fiora pantomimes their shape with her hands.

“You mean these? These look like binoculars to me.” You pull the Weird-Looking Goggles that Crossbill stole from Ophelia out. Yeah, you kept them. You brought all your stuff with you in a bag, so here they are.

“Those ones, Mr. Phil! Yes! This explains it all, you were trained at one of the five temples!” Fiora gets very excited at seeing them. Poor soul, it never crossed her mind that these were stolen. “My mom taught me that centuries ago, people like us were persecuted, our monasteries burned down – and much of our knowledge was lost. That’s why she believed modern temples’ teachings lack substance. And why you don’t know how to use our Spiritual Goggles!”

“Oooh!” You don’t want to get into a deep talk about genocide with a child, so you’ll ask about something else. “How do they work?” You hand them to her to see the magic.

“There’s a switch here.” Fiora grabs points at a tiny wheel on the bottom of the goggles! “In this mode, you can see internal spiritual energy!” She puts them in front of you to check this out. You can see energy flowing through Kobashi’s body. Woah!

“I’m looking strong, huh?” Kobashi flexes for the sake of it.

“Kobashi, this is literally the first time I've ever seen this. I have no idea.” You deadpan. Kobashi frowns.

“With this, you can determine the amount of spiritual energy one has. The larger the amount, the bigger the opportunity to be special like us!” Fiora explains. “There’s an old man who was able to do this without using the goggles. So even that can turn into an ability!”

“I imagine he’s that teacher, Hubbard.” Kobashi looks disgusted for a moment.

“Turning the switch allows you to see external spiritual energy!” Fiora pulls the trigger again. And as she says, you can’t see Kobashi’s energy anymore. Everything looks normal… How quaint.

“Woah, cool!” You reiterate, you see nothing. “What’s the difference? Why is it like this?”

“I don’t know!” And that’s how knowledge is lost. Fiora has no idea. “You can channel more of your own spiritual energy to intensify the goggles’ power! Try it out!”

“How?” You wonder as you grab the glasses yourself.

“Just really, really, really think about it!” Fiora is really excited showing you all of this.

“Okay…” You do your best!

“Partner, I can feel our energy moving.” Philonune makes mention of you doing this right.

And he’s right, you can see more stuff now! Like the links of energy coming out of everyone go to the sky! This is what San Wich’s ability looks like! Wow! And there’s a ghost standing next to Kobashi too! You couldn’t see it with— Wait a minute.

A ghost…?!

“Fiora, is it normal to see specters with this?” You need to know if you have to panic or not.

“Specters?” Fiora appears dumbfounded.

“Yeah, you know, like ghosts.” You don’t want to go into specifics to not scare her, but you’re out of options.

“The wisps look like ghosts to you? I guess you can interpret it as such. A cluster of energy is referred to as a Wisp in my teachings. To me, they look like smoke coming out from a train. Choo-choo! If you squint your eyes you’ll see!” Fiora shyly scratches her cheek. “Mom didn’t like how I described them… But it’s like a stream of something, isn’t it? So I thought it fit better.”

“They usually look flame-like to me, but that’s not what I’m getting at. This is different.” You’ll have to properly explain yourself. “Can the energy look like… uh… people?”

“People?” Fiora feels uneasy.

“Like, can it have a face, for example?” You throw the idea out there.

“Ohm, that’s an incredibly special case, mother said wisps with distinguishable shapes have a lot of energy concentrated. If it’s more than that…” Fiora is getting a little scared. “D-Does it look like my mom?”

“No, someone else.” You shouldn’t have said that.

“Let me see!” Fiora got too anxious not to check! You hand the goggles over. “AH?!” Fiora throws them up in the air from the shock! You catch them and put them back. “W-Who’s that?”

Okay, that’s not normal then.

“There’s a ghost here?” Kobashi asks nonchalantly.

“R-Right behind you.” Fiora admits.

“Like here?” Kobashi points to his side.

“T-The other side.” Fiora points in the correct direction.

“Here?” Kobashi doesn’t act afraid.

“Right there, yes.” You give him a thumbs up.

“Should I move? Call a medium? Let you handle it? Pass away?” Kobashi freezes.

You exchange glances with Fiora. This depends on you two…

Your gut instinct tells you the best move here is to talk to the ghost. Because it doesn’t matter how much anyone can tell you that’s energy or whatever, that looks like a living being! And you should be able to communicate with it!

“Should I stay put?” Kobashi hasn’t twitched a muscle after the location of the specter was revealed. You nod out of instinct.

“Talk to it?” Fiora is interested, but she doesn’t know if it can be accomplished. “You think it’s another medium?”

“Another medium? You mean a person?” You ask.

“Yes, mother told me that there’s a long-lost technique called ‘Spiritual Projection’ that only a handful of our ancestors were capable of practicing.” Fiora has great interest in this topic. “They channeled their spiritual energy outside the body and formed a strong wisp called ‘Will-o-the-Wisp’ or ‘Ignis Fatuus’ to move freely around the world without their bodies. The risks are too unsurmountable to even consider using it. And, ohm, I think it’s the only type of spiritual energy that can be communicated with.”

“It can’t be an actual ghost?” You wonder why it can’t be only a powerful spirit.

“Ooohm… Is that something they taught you in your temple?” Fiora’s books don’t have any pointers for this.

“You don’t have to be a spiritualist to believe in ghosts, y’know? You saw one just now.” You raise an eyebrow. “I’ve seen a spiritualist that looks like that anyway.”

“Ohm, ohm, ohm, I think you’re right...” Fiora isn’t comfortable with the implication of ghosts existing. You wonder how anyone can dissociate all this spiritual nonsense from ghosts. Don’t those things go hand and hand?

“Don’t worry, we got this.” You try to sound reassuring.

“Yes. Yes, we do.” Kobashi raises his thumb to give the little girl some confidence. “Now what?”

“Mr. Phil, you have a strong spiritual presence, yet you needed to channel some energy in the goggles to be able to see the spirit, therefore it mustn’t be that powerful.” Fiora points out. Does that mean Fiora is strong enough to see it without concentrating? She must be a prodigy of some kind. “It won’t be easy for it to communicate with us.”

“Hmmm.” You think about it. “Kobashi, pull out a pen and paper. Let’s ask the spirit to write what it wants.”

“Right.” Kobashi, for some reason, has a notepad and a pen in his pocket. Oh yeah, it must be the same paper they used to grab the spider! It wasn’t a random event! Anyway, the policeman leaves the items on the ground.

“Spirit, if you hear us, please answer us! What do you want?!” You proclaim like you’re a fake spiritualist.

The pen raises like being carried by the wind and begins scribbling on the paper… slowly. This might take a while… Your goggle vision sees the spirit struggling a lot to write, it has little to no control of its instrument. The pen drops!

Oh no! It’s unreadable! And barely anything is scribbled! What a pathetic effort! If only Nariko was here to translate…

“Maybe we should let the spirit possess someone? Or am I saying something stupid?” Kobashi proposes.

What do you do?

>Allow the spirit to possess your hand for it to write stuff down.

Let’s just go for 20 questions and the spirit can nod or shake its head, that way it doesn’t have to exert strength by possessing someone or something. This way we can also guide the conversation to get info we want rather than info the ghost wants to give us.
1) Are you trying to communicate with (Johnny, Kobashi, or Fiora)
2) Are you native to this world
3) Are you trying to be released or to…solidify, I guess? Is she trying to get gone or become more substantial.
4) Does she want us to do something to help her? (If so then ask a series of questions to tell what. Does she want us to get an object for her, take her to somewhere, do some ritual, etc.)

Really I guess this is basically the “do charades” option.

“We don’t need it to possess someone but something.” Your Knowledge level 4 is coming in handy! No need to do something stupidly dangerous like giving up your body! Wouldn’t a ghost be considered a flame? You couldn’t let it possess you anyway. You recall two flames touching having bad secondary effects on their hosts. There’s a similar radio to Yareli’s on Kobashi’s table, you can use it instead! “Like this beautiful radio.”

“Oh, good thinking!” Kobashi was ready to become a vessel for the unknown.

“Will-O-Wisps can possess electronic devices? Wow, your temple conserves a lot of intricate knowledge!” Fiora has no idea, and is very excited to see this. You think it’s common knowledge that ghosts can possess objects, right? You tricked so many people with this you’ll feel bad if it’s an untrue ghost stereotype.

“Oh, great spirit! Please, use this radio to communicate with us!” You feel like such a fraud talking like this, but it worked with the pen stuff, you can’t argue with results.

“Should you turn it on?” Kobashi asks.

“I don’t know.” You think the electricity could work against it, but you don’t wanna say just in case. “But you need to walk to it, the spirit can’t move away from you.”

“Why is it on me?” Kobashi doesn’t like being the antenna man. He walks forward to the table with the radio on top.

“You can ask it.” You shrug.

“You’re right.” Kobashi takes your suggestion seriously. You see the ghost trying to possess the radio.

“It’s on the radio!” You exclaim! You forgot you’re the only one with the goggles for a moment there.

“I can hear static.” Kobashi is getting excited.

“Me too…” Fiora is hiding behind you. With Kobashi being haunted, you’re the only one who’s safe in her eyes.

Bzzzzt…” The radio gets a tiny bit louder. “He… I… ries…” It’s a feminine voice that’s cutting out.

“I’ll turn it on.” Kobashi does what he wants. “There.” He walks back to be next to you two.

“………………..Help……” The ghost says loud and clear! She’s talking to you all! Technically it’s neither loud or clear, but you can hear it even if barely.

“She’s talking!” Fiora grabs the policeman’s leg tightly. “Now what, Mr. Phil?”

Oh yeah, you’re the one in charge! It’s surprising to you that it worked this well because there should be more ghost sightings in general if it was this easy. You’re not here to deny the results, but to get some answers!

“Who are you trying to communicate with? Me? Kobashi? Fiora?” You wonder.

“……—GAAAhh—……….” The ghost is in pain. You wonder if that’s an ‘a’ for Kobashi or for Fiora. You better not say something stupid.

“Are you with us?” You think you’re losing her if she’s in pain.

“…………………I…………am………..” It takes a while for the ghost to respond.

“We should keep our questions short.” Kobashi takes the lead. “Ghost, are you trying to communicate with me?”

“……………………You…sh..…d… be….d….d…..” She’s losing energy.

“Just answer yes or no.” You plea. “Are you native to this world?”

“……………………..not…………………..thi……….one.” The ghost retorts. You told her to answer with yes or no, this ghost can’t follow instructions. “……..Yours……..”

“A-Are you in pain?” Fiora needs to ask this.

“…………………………….Losing myse…….” The voice shouts in agony.

“What can we do to help?” Kobashi wonders even if he shouldn’t ask complicated questions.

“……………Gi…….me……………ener……….” The radio goes to static…

“She wants spiritual energy!” Fiora takes a reasonable guess.

“And how do we get some?” Kobashi is ready to help!

“Ohm, mother should know how, but…” Fiora knows this is a bad idea. “Ohm, there’s someone at the orphanage, a brother of mine, who can help too.” Fiora is coming up with more options.

“She’s no evil spirit, right? We must help.” Kobashi is ready for this task.

But are you…?

What do you do?

>Proclaim the spirit evil and that she shouldn’t be helped.
>Meet up with Ophelia, she must know a way to help.

“What if, instead of looking for someone else, the spirit possess the goggles and I donate energy to her?” Thanks to your high knowledge you’re able to come up with a decent plan! “Would that work?”

“It’s worth the try!” Fiora loves competent people having competent ideas!

“Then the spirit can possess the duck outside to talk to us!” Thanks to your high knowledge you’re able to come up with stupid shit too…

“W-What?” Fiora is flabbergasted by your well-thought out idea.

“Sounds good to me. I’ll bring the duck!” Kobashi walks out with one mission in his head.

“C-Can the spirit talk through the duck?” Fiora finds reasons to doubt this.

“We’ll see.” You stand closer to the radio to bait the ghost into the goggles. You start seeing the phantom moving closer. It’s spooky.

“Ohm, what about the radio?” Fiora is trying to convince you of repeating your idea.

“What about it?” You raise an eyebrow. She can’t see that behind the goggles.

“Why not use it again?” The spiritualist meekly asks.

“A smart man once said ‘insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.’ Are you insane, Fiora?” You ask as you see the spirit entering your goggles.

“N-No…” Fiora puts her hands behind her back.

“Then there we go.” Your Handsomeness plus your great intellect managed to appease Fiora for now. “I’m gonna start pumping energy into them…”

Wait, weren’t you already doing that? You were watching the spirit possessing the damn thing! So, you were using some of your energy already! How much do you have to feed it? A question you should ask more often knowing the people you do.

“Is it working?” Fiora asks you as she believes you’re the expert here.

“I like to think it is.” You’re an optimist in front of children.

“I’m back with the duck!” Kobashi is proud of catching wild animals. The duck is quite passive. What an adorable animal. You pet it. “Would you like to pet it too, Fiora?”

“C-Can I?” Fiora is unsure of herself.

“Go ahead.” Kobashi kneels down for her.

Fiora successfully pets the duck! Hooray! She seems very happy!

“Time to put an evil spirit into it.” You take off the goggles and put them near the duck.

“Quack?” The duck didn’t like what you said.

“You said it wasn’t evil!” Kobashi is in shock.

“I never said that.” You deadpan.

“L-Look!” Fiora points at the duck freezing. Not literally. Just in place.

The Duck stands still for a moment then… he moves.

“Quack.” The bird says with determination.

“…” Kobashi stares at you, judgmentally.

“I think it worked.” You lie. “Spirit, if your possession worked. Jump once.”

The duck jumps once. The whole room reacts in awe! You put the goggles on, and see nothing of note – you change modes and see the duck having a peculiar aura around it. Like, it moves differently than Kobashi’s or Fiora’s. So, all in all, the possession was a great triumph.

“We need to ask the duck more questions.” You propose like it wasn’t going to happen anyway. “Are you happy in your new duck form?”

“Quack.” The duck jumps twice.

“Aw, she’s excited. She really likes it.” You point out.

“Don’t two jumps mean ‘no’?” Kobashi wonders as he squints his eyes.

“We never established that.” You don’t know where this comes from.

“Quack.” The duck shakes her duck head. That was a ‘no.’

“The ducky doesn’t want to be a duck. I-I mean, ohm, the spirit wants a different vessel.” Fiora talks for the duck like she’s a duck version of T_T Neko.

“Quack!” The duck seems to agree.

“Did she shout to disagree? Or she’s unhappy being a duck?” Kobashi gets confused.

“She totally doesn’t want to be a duck.” You back up Fiora on this. “I think we can establish that for certain.”

“Do you prefer jumping twice or not jumping at all to disagree?” Kobashi asks the funny animal.

“Quack!” The duck shakes her head.

“She can nod or shake her head, Kobashi. She doesn’t need to jump.” You point out.

“Mr. Phil asked her to jump to make sure she’s understanding us.” Fiora explains what you totally thought before.

“Hmph, I wanted to see her jump again.” Kobashi had ulterior intentions. You’re not going to lie, you feel the same way. “How can we help you, Ms. Ducky?”

“Quack, quack, quack.” The duck keeps honking.

“Yeah, I’m not sure how this is going to work.” Kobashi doesn’t need to be a detective to realize what the issue is here.

“Ms. Ducky, is the actual duck, the host, okay?” Fiora is worried about the original duck’s mind.

“Quack.” For a moment, the duck’s eyes turn back to normal and it nods. Then it goes back to… uhm… paranormal?

“I’m glad!” Fiora relaxes. She didn’t want to hurt the bird. “Spirit, shouldn’t we use the radio to communicate instead?” Hold on a second, Fiora didn’t buy your reasoning from earlier! You feel betrayed.

“Quack, quack.” The spirit duck points at the radio, pretends to faint, and stands up.

“Oh, it tired her.” Kobashi grasped the message.

“Perhaps, she lost some vital energy doing it.” Fiora speculates.

“Quack!” The duck nods.

“It’s a long shot, but…” Kobashi has a proposition. “Ghost, do you know Morse code?”

“Quack…” The duck shakes her head.

“Worth a try.” Kobashi shrugs.

You grab the notepad and pencil, write out a Ouija board for the spirit to use to communicate with you all, and put it on the ground. You briefly explain your idea to everyone including the duck.

“Great thinking!” Kobashi loves your initiative. You’re not used to being heavily praised.

“Let’s see what our spirit friend has to say.” You all sit down in a circle around the duck and the notepad. Kobashi pulls out another notepad to write down what the duck will be saying.

“Are you ready?” Kobashi asks the goofy animal.

“Quack.” The spirit points at the word ‘yes’ on the board.

“Perhaps we should retread our steps, ask the same questions again.” Fiora proposes.

“Well then.” You put your hand on your chin. “Who are you trying to communicate with? Me? Kobashi? Or Fiora?”

“Quack.” The duck begins spelling her message: A—L—L. Kobashi lets you know despite being fairly obvious.

“All of us?” You wonder why. “You know us three?”

“Quack.” The duck points at the ‘yes’ again. How…?!

“Are you native to this world?” You wonder.

“Quack…” The duck takes her time. It’s a long message, so you’ll let Kobashi read it.

“Same as yours.” Kobashi raises an eyebrow. The duck is staring at you intensely. She comes from outside the bubble?

“What can we do to help?” Fiora asks the next question.

“Quack.” Again, the duck takes her time spelling a long message.

“I need my real body. Give me more energy and I’ll be on my way.” Kobashi reads.

“Do you know where your body is? Your real one, not your duck one.” You ask.

“Quack.” The duck points at the ‘yes’ yet again.

“What’s your real name, Ducky?” Kobashi gets all serious. He knows it’ll be the last time he’s going to be able to call the spirit ‘Ducky’.

“Quack…” The duck starts dancing on the table to spell the answer.

“Dorothy.” Kobashi acts like this reveal is mighty important. “A perfect name for a duck.”

“Mhm!” Fiora agrees completely.

“Q-Quack?!” Dorothy doesn’t like what she hears.

Dorothy… You know a Dorothy (Lise’s evil scientist mother), but that Dorothy is dead. And death means that your spiritual energy becomes the tiniest fraction it can, like with Osgood and Dhrtarastra. So, it is most likely a coincidence, except for the fact that she admitted to knowing *you*.

“You’re Dorothy Villiers?” You ask with no hesitation. You don’t care if Kobashi and Fiora don’t understand what’s going on.

“Quack…” The duck refuses to answer. She feels the bad vibes.

“Are you?” You insist. She knows if she doesn’t answer, there’s nothing else for her to do.

“Quack…” The duck is incapable of smirking. But you can feel the smugness in her strut to the board. She puts her beak onto the ‘yes.’

You feel the atmosphere tensing up, the pretenses are all gone, Dorothy Villiers has revealed her true identity. She’s the despot white flame user who’s cruelty knows no limits. an abuser who treated her own daughter like dirt. A scientist who experimented on other human beings without any remorse. Someone who went to the extreme of brainwashing their own husband, and two homeless men too (as far as you know), one of them being Nariko’s friend. Truly one of the most despicable human beings you’ve ever met.

“Yo, what’s your password for your computer?” You casually ask for this information! It’s important!

“Q-Quack…?!” Dorothy doesn’t understand why you are asking.

“Huh?” Kobashi doesn’t get the question.

“Just like mother taught me, I’m going to wait until your conversation is done to ask questions.” Fiora is a good girl who looks very troubled by what’s happening.

Duckrothy Villiers stands on the part of the board she never stood on before… where it says ‘no’. But, she doesn’t stop there… She stares at Kobashi, forcing him to grab his notepad again with her sole gaze. Kobashi starts writing what Dorothy wants to say.

“I will answer every single one of your questions if you agree to help me find my body.” Kobashi reads the finished message. “Hey, Phil, is she evil?”

“Quack.” You point at the ‘No’ on the board, and make eye contact with Dorothy.

“Quack?!” Dorothy is in utter disbelief.

“Quack.” Your final answer. You won’t help the closest thing to a super villain that you know.

“Quack! Quack!” Dorothy opens her wings, demanding to be listened to. She starts begging for Kobashi’s attention to keep taking notes.

“Should I…? Is she evil or not?” Kobashi once again asks. You should answer him.

“I wouldn’t do it if I were you…” You’re serious.

“Understood.” Kobashi refuses to write anything.

Despite everything, Dorothy starts spelling a message nobody is going to hear…

“—Hear me out.—” Fiora takes the time to say the message. The duck is far too cute for her to ignore. “—I will do anything you want.—, or so the Ducky says.”

“I said ‘Quack’ already.” And it means ‘no.’

“Quack! Quack!” Dorothy begs for another chance. With one wing she points at Fiora, and starts spelling a new message with her beak.

“—Give me a chance. The world needs me. I know how to take down the cult. How to take down Rise. And more.—“ Fiora reads for the ducky.

“I already dealt with them.” You adjust your glasses.

“Q-Q-Q-Quack?!” Dorothy can’t believe you. She starts dancing for another message.

“—I can get rid of Lloyding…” Fiora is stopped midway.

“Fiora, stop talking for the duck.” Kobashi has too much trust in you to prefer a duck he just met.

“B-But…” Fiora thinks the duck is salvable.

“Quack…” Dorothy collapses onto the board, defeated.

“Dorothy, I’ll ask your daughter if you’re worth saving or not. How about that?” You let out a mischievous smile without thinking.

“Qua-Quack…?!” Dorothy didn’t see this coming for some reason, and she’s now ten times more concerned than when she was defeated somehow.

“Huh, I’m starting to think all of this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.” Kobashi bobs his head in pure confident confusion, if somehow these two words make sense together.

“Pointing out the absurdity of the situation doesn’t make it in any way less real.” Once you’re consumed by the nonsense, you can go along with everything more easily. Or maybe you need to admit you’re losing your mind.

“You’re right. I must *always* live in the moment.” This answer explains so much about Kobashi, you don’t know what to say back.

“Quack…” Dorothy wants your attention. “Quack.” Dorothy points at the ‘yes’ on the notepad. She’s willing to go through all of this for the mere slim chance of getting what she wants.

In a twisted way, and maybe under other circumstances, you’d admire the stubbornness – but you don’t. You don’t even understand why you’re entertaining this request. Perhaps it is not to take the decision away from Lise. It’s her mother. She might need some closure. And it’s up to her if she wants to patch things up with her mother… or get some payback. Still, bringing someone’s abuser back into their life feels iffy at best. You might regret this, you might not. You feel like either way, Lise will get mad at you.

“Mr. Phil, you don’t look happy with her answer.” Fiora is afraid you’ll burst into an angry fit.

“Nah, I’m thinking about what to do.” You need Naiad to communicate with Xavi, for you to call Lise to make this whole thing work.

You concentrate deeply on your pinky finger… Naiad’s little fairy fish cap appears on it. You concentrate energy into it like with the goggles to call your friend into action. As far as you know, she should be busy with the gate stuff but, as impulsive as it may sound, you need her here now. Maybe you can channel that it isn’t as urgent as the main gate stuff, and for her to only come over if she’s free…

“Spiritual energy is linked with thoughts, it’s not a bad shout.” Philonune backs your idea.

“Quack! Quack!” Dorothy demands to know if you’re going through this with her.

“Give me a moment, duck.” You glare back. The evil bird stares back defiantly. She wants you to know she means it. “I guess, I’ll explain a bit while we wait. She’s the ghost of the deceased mother of one of my friends, she was verbally abusive to my friend for her entire life, and she was an iffy scientist of some kind.” That’s a terrible summary. You didn’t do your best, if you’re being honest.

“Quack?! Quack, quack, quack!” Dorothy honks angrily. She did not like your description!

“Oh, how could I forget? She was also morbidly obese.” You point out. The duck stands in shock.

“Is the password you mentioned so important to waste your time talking to her? It’s obvious you don’t want anything to do with her.” Kobashi wants the full picture.

“I think the decision should rest on my friend’s shoulders. She’s her mother. I don’t want to take the chance from her.” You aren’t sure about it. If your dad showed up in duck form, despite how much you hate him, you’d want to see it… to make fun of him. “I’m kinda worried that she’ll get mad at me for bringing her back, as far as she knows, she’s dead and gone, and has made peace with it.”

“Quack…” Dorothy didn’t like hearing that either, but in a subdued way.

“I’m sure your friend is going to find forgiveness in her! Mothers need to correct their children to fulfill their potential. I’m sure she had your friend’s best interests in mind, Mr. Phil.” Fiora says some fucked up things to cheer you up.

“Quack!” Dorothy nods in agreement. You want to smack her stupid duck head, but it’s not her body. And honestly, you should keep your feelings down, you aren’t sure what their relationship was like in detail. You doubt there’s room for forgiveness, but you can’t deny there’s a chance.

“Even if she gets angry at you, she’ll understand where you’re coming from... eventually.” Kobashi helps ease your mind. “Just be ready to apologize so that ‘eventually’ doesn’t take an ‘eternity’, you understand?”

“Yup.” You nod.

Suddenly, Philonune alerts you that there’s a little spaceship coming from the night sky! It’s none other than the brave little fairy, Naiad! Like last time, she goes through the house like a ghost and lands right on the dining table next to you four. She pops out of the cabin in a victory pose!

“Naiad!” You use the fish pinky cap to telepathically talk to her! “You heard my call! You weren’t busy, right?” You pet her head.

Naiad shakes her head and begins pantomiming. Informing you that San Wich and she were working on shrinking the gate to this world to its minimum size possible without closing it entirely. Just open enough for you and your friends to be able to leave when the time comes. At this point in the process, she was merely watching it unfold since it’s all a delicate process only San Wich can do, and it needs his entire concentration or something bad might happen. That’s why she didn’t hesitate to heed your call!

“You’ve done great work, fairy. We’re in your debt.” Philonune bows.

“You’ve done great work, fairy. We’re in your debt.” Philonune bows.

“W-W-W—Wh-What’s that little thing?!” Fiora hides behind Kobashi, she’s terrified of the cutest entity you know. The little fairy loses morale, she doesn’t want to make anyone feel scared.

“Q-Quack?!” Dorothy can see her as well and is dumbfounded by her presence.

“Am I missing something…?” Kobashi feels like everyone is acting off with no discernable explanation.

“Don’t worry, she’s my fri—”

Your explanation gets interrupted by the ground shaking violently for a moment. Some sort of shockwave expanded through the air, like a smoke ring cloud, in the blink of an eye. Power came back as fast as it went out, and with it, you realize Kobashi and Fiora went unconscious. They dropped in relatively comfortable areas… The same thing cannot be said of the person who descended from the ceiling…

“Oh… Bollocks…” It’s Houda Lan! He’s rubbing his head after the fall. “What in the bloody hell was that?”

“Houda?” You ask what he is doing here as you move to check on Fiora. She’s breathing normally, she’s asleep. A piece of paper slowly floats down to your hands, you grab it. “What are you doing here?”

“Hey there, lovely chap. I was here on behalf of my dear friend Nessa. For…” Houda starts touching his body while searching for something. Then he realizes you have a piece of paper in your hand. “That. The treasure is in your hands, friend. I wouldn’t look at it if I were you.”

“What’s this?” Oh, this is *that* pic of Vanessa. What is it doing here?!

“Told ya.” Houda shrugs.

“Quack.” Dorothy is letting you know Kobashi is okay.

“But what was that…?” You ask out loud.

“Partner, Naiad has something to tell us...” Philonune points at the lovely fairy, who is nervously checking her equipment for a diagnosis of the situation.

Naiad turns to you both and… poses cheerfully! She lets you know that the Gate is ready for you all to leave! Was the shockwave a side effect from that? Why are Fiora and Kobashi unconscious? And why did Kobashi have Vanessa’s pic?!

Sadly, this is everything we have for this thread! Thank you for playing and see you next time!
