Saturday 11th November (Day 209)

It is cold when you wake up that morning. An unfortunate reminder that it’s winter in Japan. Ooarai has managed to avoid most of the bad weather given its ability to move around the ocean, but unfortunately to fight a match on Japan you have to return to Japan where it’s freezing.

Otto has also realised the temperature hence his massive protests when his biological heater gets up to get out of bed. It’s so cold that instead of charging out for breakfast, he stumbles back into the blanket.

“I can’t blame you buddy,” you chuckle as you get up and get ready yourself. Twenty minutes later, you’re out of the door and on your way to the warehouse. Surprisingly, you’re the first one to arrive – usually Miho and some others are around first. You just shrug and get to opening the warehouse.

A few minutes later the first crew arrives.

“Commander Hermann!” Azusa cheers as she arrives. “Wow! You’re first? Usually Commander Nishizumi is here!”

“I know, right?” You chuckle. “How about you get your tank moved out here for transporter since you’re here first?”

“Yes sir!” Azusa declares, before rallying her girls to get their tank moving. As they do so, other crews start to arrive, and they begin moving their tanks out of the warehouse as well.

Miho arrives shortly afterwards, as everything is getting into gear.

“Morning,” you greet her as she walks up to you. “Sleep in today?”

“Yeah,” she admits, slightly red. “I was about to rush over.”

>“Well, that’s what deputies are for right?”
>“Good thing I’m not just a pretty face, huh?”

>“Well, that’s what deputies are for right?”

“Yeah! I picked well, didn’t I!” Miho giggles. “How goes it?”

“As usual,” you reply. “Everyone’s getting their tanks out.”

“Tank transporters should be here soon,” Miho says glancing at her phone before handing it to you.

“They have an app?” You ask.

“And Ooarai has a discount card,” Miho confirms. “Since we use the same company so often.”

“Huh, go figure,” you nod.

A few minutes later, the transporters start to roll in, and like a well-oiled machine, the tankers of Ooarai begin to load their tanks up.

At this point it doesn’t require much intervention from Miho or you, letting her head into the warehouse lounge and collect pastries for the two of you as the tanks are loaded. You munch on it till finally you’re needed to help get your tank aboard, but once that’s done, the convoy slowly leaves Ooarai.

“How far away is the field?” You ask.

“Well, as the crow flies, it’s not very far,” Yukari replies, thrusting a map into your face. “But it’s deep in the mountains so, we have to take twisty mountain roads to get there.”

“So, I see,” you reply, taking the map from her to look for yourself.

“What do we do now then?”

“We could play games!” Aya crows. “The rest of Rabbit team agrees!”

“They’re not in this truck,” you reply.

“They would if they were here!” She counters.

You share a look with Miho who just shrugs.

“Sure, what kind of game?” Miho asks.

“What about red car, yellow car?” Erika suggests.

“Too violent,” Aya complains. “What about I spy?”

“The number plate game?” Yukari offers.

>I spy is the way to go.

“It’s got to be I spy,” you reply.

“Fritz!’ Erika complains, before slugging your arm.

If you’re going to hit me anyway, why bother with Red car, Yellow car?” You frown.

“Then I have a good excuse!” Erika complains.

“Oh! Oh! We can get the guys in the other trucks to join us!” Aya crows. “I’ll call them! I have unlimited minutes!”

“Of course,” you nod. A few minutes later, the Rabbits have set up a group call with their counterparts in the other trucks and a team-wide game of I spy is going on. Great because everyone’s involved, less great because 60 people means things get found out ridiculously fast.

After several quick fire rounds, it finally gets to Yukari.

“I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with P,” she declares.

“Pole?” You ask.

“Park?” Someone offers over the phone.

“What park?” Another person fires back. “It’s just massive fields on the other side of the roads.”

“Pizza shop?” Mako offers as you roll past a service station.

“How could she have seen that in advance?” Erika snaps back.

That continues for a while before someone – Saki you think – quietly says “Panzer.”

“Yup! That’s it!” Yukari declares.

“What! Panzer isn’t even a Japanese word!” Aya complains. “You can’t use a German word! No one will be able to guess it!”

“It’s a word everyone here would probably know though,” Miho replies. “Saki knew it.”

“Uh oh,” you share a look with Erika. In a house that can speak three languages it’s a common problem.

>Best answer is to ignore it, pick something you can see and start another game.
>To be fair, everyone involved knows exactly what a Panzer is.

>To be fair, everyone involved knows exactly what a Panzer is.

“Well, uh, I have to agree with Miho here Aya,” you tell the fuming Rabbit. Aya turns around to pout at you and you can’t help but laugh and pat her head.

“Commanderrrrr,” Aya complains. “It’s not fair.”

“If everyone who plays know it is fair,” you reply, getting another deeper frown from her.

You can’t help it and ruffle her hair, causing her to squawk and try to escape. Hard when you’re all in the same cabin of a truck.

“How about I have a go,” you reply.

“I spy with my little eye,” you begin, looking around. Several passing commercial airliners , high in the sky, catch your eye. “Something beginning with P.”

“Panzer?” Aya guesses immediately.

“No dice,” you reply. “Do you think I would do the same word again?”

“We once had a string of the same word twelve times in a row!” Karina reports over the phone.

“In different contexts!” Aya complains.

There’s a story there, but you decide not to pursue it, content to sit back and let people guess at what it is.

Eventually, Erwin gets it, spotting a plane coming low to land.

By then though, you’re almost at the field, so the game is put on pause. Once you arrive, you’re swiftly identified and directed to the staging area. You think you catch a glance at someone from Jatkosota, but you don’t get a chance to investigate further before you’re helping direct the removal of the tanks from the transporter.

Theoretically, it’s an easy task, but as you watch the transporter’s front wheels leave the floor for a second, you’re reminded that tough though they may be, if any of them fall off, they’re probably not going to be used today.

There are several close calls, as usual, but no accidents so you’re left with some time to spare before the beginning of the match.

Idea for a type of match: Scavenger Treasure Hunt.

Two teams are looking for something the other is hiding, and whoever finds the object and shoots a provided flare into the air wins the match. To help the teams along, any time a tank is taken out, hints to the enemy's location is broadcasted over the radio. A team dominating their opponent will have more ears hearing and eyes looking for the treasure, but for the team getting bodied, there's still a chance for them to make a comeback by slipping through the enemy to find their treasure.
>>
>>5394846
Though, even though the tanks are knocked out... the only issue with the weaker team is mobility at that point, since it's part of the game to leave the tank to go find the treasure and fire the flare.
>>
>>5394511

>Go over the plan again with Miho.

“Right! Let’s go over the plan one last time,” Miho calls as you prepare for the match to start. All of the tank commanders are present, as well as some of the crew who aren’t busy finishing preparations.

“We all know the plan by now, but let’s just finalise some of the details,” Miho says. “The flag group will head straight for the airfield to take control of it and hunker down there. That group will have the flag tank and will be lead by Commander Hermann. It has Rabbit team as flag tank, Leopon, Hound, Shark, Hippo, and Ocelot.”

“Big group,” Erwin observes.

“They have to be,” Miho replies. “Given they’re going to be Jatkosota’s main targets.”

“And the other groups?” You ask.

“I’ll lead the group heading north,” she replies. “The other group heading south will be led by Turtle team.”

“Wha?” Anzu looks up upon hearing her team’s name.

“We’ll be leading our part of the team,” Yuzu repeats. “I hope you’ll take it seriously.”

“Of course!” Anzu looks almost offended that Yuzu would say that, and manages to hold it for almost ten seconds before bursting out laughing.

“If that’s all, I think we should get to work,” Miho says. “I recommend you figure out your order of march.”

“Miho,” you say.

“Oh, whoops,” she giggles. “I forgot who I was talking to.”

Now that the school's no longer in a state-of-emergency, why aren't some of the teams relieved of duty? They were cobbled together from other clubs, isn't it time to let them go?

There's a whole chapter in the manga anthology about how the logistics situation with Ooarai's tank line-up is already treading a fine line with the tanks they have in canon.

Well, that is a good reason for the main character to keep things as is... Though, with all the clubs cannibalized by the Student Council, I think there may be some growing resentment at their freedoms and culture being ground under-tread.

“Let’s get moving then,” Miho says, rolling up her map.

Aye aye, Cap’n,” Erika declares in English, charging over to her tank, getting laughter from those that understand, and confused looks from those that don’t. You just shake her head and turn back to your tank where Max and Leo are tinkering with the tracks, making final adjustments.

“Are we good gents?” You ask, as you mount up.

“Ready to roll,” Max replies. “Hopefully our engine can handle it.”

“Yeah we don’t want to be stuck in the open again,” you smirk. You climb into your hatch where Ruby and Axel are doing a few dry runs, loading, and firing the gun.

“All tanks, head to our beginning zone and split into your groups,” Miho orders.

“You heard the Commander,” you say to Max. “Get us moving.”

“Aye,” Max starts the engine and Werewolf’s engines whines to life as it spins up. You’re moving a moment later, falling in line behind Miho, who in turn is behind some kind of Russian armoured fighting vehicle that’s been stripped of all weapons and has a flashing blue light a top it.

>Send Erika Roving ahead with the heavy tanks close to you and the flag tanks. Tank Destroyers at the back.

When you reach the start point, you split into your different teams. Miho and Anzu lead their teams off to the north and south. Your team assembles just to the west of the designated starting point as you organise them.

“Erika, you push out ahead of us,” you begin. “The heavy tanks and I will stick close to the flag tank, make it a hard target. Tank destroyers at the back.”

“Not concerned about the tank destroyers being picked off?” Erika asks.

“They’re probably going to target the flag tank,” you reply. “And if I have to pick between defending one or the other…”

“Then the flag tank is the better pick,” Erika nods.

With that, preparations are done, and all you have to wait for is the starting flare. You’re not disappointed, and soon Miho crackles through the Radio.

“Panzer Vor!”

“Our tank weighs more?” Leo offers.

“That’s not it,” Max retorts.

“What is it then,” Leo snaps back. You tune out the squabbling and instead look to make sure that the rest of your team is forming up. All of them are professionals, professional amateurs anyway, so it’s with minimal help from you that the team manages to form up around Rabbit team. You’ve taken the lead position, with Leopon north of them, Shark team south, and the two tank destroyers behind them.

Somehow I don't think an MG is going to get rid of a cloud of dust. I'd rather her stay concealed and get info for us for now. Charging forward into them is obviously suicidal and exactly what they want, and I'd rather not do that with either us or Erika. We'll find out soon enough how many they are, no need to lose Erika to find out a turn sooner.
>>
>>5400837
An MG's fire pings off of metal when it hits metal. That produces a sound.
>>
>>5401109
You're going to hear an MG pinging off metal over the sound of your own tank, tanks around you, the crowd of tanks likely producing the dust cloud, and also the MG itself which you are firing? I doubt it.
>>
>>5401123
From probably over a kilometer away at least to boot. Not going to happen.
>>

That's what they did in the war, hearing the impact of bullet on metal was how they judged artillery targets.
>>
>>5401125
I doubt they did that against a company's worth of immediately approaching armor with a lone tank they sent in directly towards them
>>
>>5401143
A scout's purpose is to find the enemy, find out how much they have, and report it on the radio. Before the radio, it was to return alive, but we have radios.
>>
>>5401148
We don't need to shove Erika right in their faces to scout. Either of the two other paths still have her well ahead of us, and not in a completely exposed position with no hope of reinforcement. There is No Need to scout this out in the first place. Whether or not it is a ruse does not impact anything, nor will knowing sooner help us. Also, no one we've ever been up against has done something like fake a dust cloud, and just because you remembered that people did it in historical contexts doesn't make it likely now. I'd say it's incredibly unlikely to be happening, and whether it is or it isn't, the worst thing we could do is suicide Erika.
>>
>>5401159
We need more information, and you can't outwait the Finnish. May as well bloody their nose.
>>
Are Kay and El... hermanas? Are there 24 more of them?
>>
>>5401160
We really don't, and we can get enough information anyways without suiciding Erika.
>>
>>5401306
Yes we do, we need to determine if their main force is here or if they're attempting to lure us out with bait. If it's the main force, we've found their main force. If it's bait that's one tank strong, Erika can 1v1 it.

Either way, the initiative is seized, there's nothing not to gain by acting.
>>
>>5401309
No, we don't. We really do not need to know right now. We can wait for our flanks to form properly before rushing ahead recklessly. If it is a bait, you are falling right into it by sending Erika in like you want to, and we lose one of our best tanks to confirm that yes, the giant dust cloud was actually their tanks. Or if it's not their main force... then what? Then plan doesn't change. On the other hand, if we don't send Erika, we risk NOTHING. If we have her in an observing position like the non suicidal options are, we'll find out anyways, and we get a nice bonus of not losing one of our best tanks immediately for no reason.

We seize no initiative by rushing one tank into what is probably their main force. Neither of you have yet to qualify how any of our actions change depending on whether Erika finds their main force or not, nor how having a forward observation position that isn't driving directly into them wouldn't give us the same intel for less risk. This is utterly foolhardy and it baffles me how the troll option is getting this stubborn support.
>>
>>5401335
Know your adversary. The Finnish use Motti Tactics, they lure the main force into an encirclement and either cut us off from reinforcements or pick off targets from opportune angles. So, it's key that we find out if that's their main force or bait, so we can keep eyes front or look to the sides.

So long as we can know how to proceed, I would ask Erika to give her "life" for that.
>>
>>5401339
It's not key, because we were never planning on charging in to them in the first place. Whether or not they are the main force, we were never going to charge in, so it's irrelevant if they are planning to draw us in.

We already know how we want to proceed. We make ourselves a juicy target here in the center *like was our plan from the beginning*, which doesn't change regardless of if this is the main force or not. Throwing Erika away here betrays either reckless overconfidence, disregard to, or ignorance of our plan.
>>
>>5401347
You seem to be under a misconception here, we're out to hit their flag tank. We need to find it first.

Yes I do, we deliberately created our flank forces for this task. And even if it were our job to be aggressive (it's not, it's rather the opposite), being more conservative with one of our most capable tanks would better serve us to that end.
>>
>>5401359
If you're conservative in a battle of tanks, you're gonna get rolled over. Erika's gone up ahead, the advantage there is that she can spot the enemy. Or, she stays where she is, the enemy potentially roll up to her before we do, and her tank is disabled before she can see or take out anything.

We're not here to hold land, we're here to advance. If you act like we're holding land, you're gonna get encircled by Finns who will cut us off from reinforcements.

Panzer vor means panzor vor, and panzer vor means no one lags behind, so tanks forward!
>>
>>5401367
>Erika's gone up ahead, the advantage there is that she can spot the enemy.
Yes! So let her do so, and keep her in cover.

>Or, she stays where she is, the enemy potentially roll up to her before we do, and her tank is disabled before she can see or take out anything.
The lack of self awareness is stunning. You're scared that they're going to roll up on her and disable her before she can report anything, so in order to mitigate this, you have her charge forward to where we think they are, completely out of cover? Her best chance to survive getting a report to us is to remain unseen and in cover. And on them rolling up to her, she's in a panther and they have mostly light tanks according to our intelligence. Her staying at range with front facing forward makes it very unlikely to get knocked out, especially in comparison to charging forward which opens her up to be flanked, outmaneuvered, and obliterated at close range.

>We're not here to hold land, we're here to advance.
Actually, according to our plan, our job is to bait the enemy into attacking us so that our flanks can do the work. OUR job is NOT to advance. Stop thinking like Chihatan. The answer to every question is not "Charge" just because we're in tanks.

>you're gonna get encircled
Honestly this would be a great outcome, because if you pay attention to the map and our plan, this is almost exactly what we want. To bait them into a decisive engagement where our flanks can collapse on them or otherwise find their flag tank in the mess while we have the survivability to sustain the battle.

>Panzer vor means panzor vor
See Chihatan point.
>>
>>5401380
She is still at range even if she goes out of cover. As you say, they are mostly light tanks, so her getting taken out is unlikely, even if they take out the tracks. She can still subdue the enemy with harassment if it's their main force, or take out whatevwr bait there is before our main force falls for it.

You need to seize the initiative, don't wait for the opponent to get comfy.
>>
>>5401614
If you hated the idea of us being bait so much, then you should have said something when we were planning to do exactly this. This situation is close ideal for our plan, and we should follow it.

If Erika charges forward, she'll be in the middle of a bunch of building, making it easy to flank her and engage her in close range. The same would not be true if she held back, since she would have a large strip of runway between any approaching tanks and herself.

There is no disadvantage to her hanging back. Either it is the main force and things go exactly to our plan, and she stays alive, or it isn't and we find out soon anyways when they don't show up, and we actually give our flanks time to form.

Frankly, I have no idea why you give so much credence to a tactic that we have never seen before even once, which would require special preparation and material to accomplish, when our opponents do not have much budget to work with.
>>
>>5401659
You're not being flexible. No plan survives contact with the enemy, and we need to get all the information we can before the enemy makes contact with us. A plan needs planning and improvisation to make it work. We need intel on the enemy as part of the planning step, and to get that we can improvise.

You had not accounted for Erika going ahead, but it can be turned to the team's advantage by informing us all of rhe enemy positions and if this is a feint. If it is or isn't, we would be committing one tank to this task either way, and getting intel.

By acting now, we can force the enemy to commit to whatever they're doing now rather than give them time to adjust and improvise, or at worst set up within buildings of their own and make this a battle of castle vs castle where we don't even know how occupied their castle is. Instead of seizing the initiative, we'd get bogged down in Finnish marshland.

It requires all the budget of hooking a tank's towing cable around a tree, uprooting the tree, and driving the tank while towing the tree.

Oh wow, lots of argument today, good to see people are passionate.

I'm not sure if we'd hear MG fire or see it ricochet given we've just been told the dust cloud is big enough Erika can see it from several kilometers away, on the other hand this is Jatkosota, and they hid in snowmen canonically, so some kind of trick isn't past them at all.

No update tonight as I both need rolls and someone to break the tie. And also work is killing me.

>If you hated the idea of us being bait so much, then you should have said something when we were planning to do exactly this. This situation is close ideal for our plan, and we should follow it.
Part of being bait is presenting your bare ass to the enemy. Whether to show you're vulnerable, or to smack it and provoke the enemy, you still have to present something for the enemy to go after. Figuratively speaking, of course, we're not Scottish.

Wouldn't having Erika get in a scuffle here help with the objective of baiting them?

Keizoku's armor is thin, their guns can't pierce the front of a Panther, but they are highly skilled at maneuvering (obviously) and pinning down an opponent while getting to more advantageous ground. They also fire their primary and secondary guns towards the ground around a heavily armored opponent to obscure their line of sight, so they are accustomed to tactics involving dust to cover their positions while they move.
>>
>>5403586
To counter the event of Keizoku launching a blizzard attack with a dust cloud and point-blank Chi-ha-tan style assaults, link the tow cables on yours tanks together to form a spider web. The two cables will prevent or at least hinder the enemy if they try to get between or behind some tanks, and the tug will indicate where the enemy is in the midst of a dust cloud.
>>
>>5403587
It's also said the quickest way to someone's heart is through their stomach, and to get to the stomach you must first pass beneath the nose! We should get some bacon or something that's aromatic enough to waft over a battlefield that Keizoku will be taking advantage of wind for dust tactics on, and lure the school with the second worst cuisine St. Gloriana still the reigning champs to opportune points for ambushes while they attempt to raid our rations.

>Tell Erika to hide in the buildings (Red)
>Just hold position for now.

“Erika,” you begin.

“Yes, Fritz?”

“Park yourself between the buildings and keep us informed,” you order.

“Aw what? That’s so boring though!” Erika complains. “Let me at em! I can take them!”

“Absolutely not,” you reply. “Stay where you are and keep an eye out - there might not even be any tanks in that dustcloud.”

“I’m sure there’s at least like 2,” she replies. “Maybe moving around really fast.”

“Watch and report,” you repeat. Erika groans, but you know her well enough to say that she’s probably not going to go against your orders. Hopefully.

“Flag group, all tanks halt,” you order. It takes a moment for the various tanks to come to a full stop but with a screech of metal, soon all the tanks in your group are stationary.

“Why are we stopping here?” Azusa asks. “We’re pretty open from the north. The forest covers our south decently though.

“Erika’s spotted something ahead,” you reply. “Don’t want to stumble into whatever it is.”

“And I suppose it’s unlikely their tanks are this far east yet,” Azusa muses. “I still don’t like being out like this.”

“Good thing you have several feet of armour in the form of Leopon then, right?” You ask, getting an indignant squawk from the automotive club.

You sit there for a few minutes, waiting for Erika to move into position then get back to you.

“Dust clouds have split and are getting smaller,” she reports. “Whatever was inside it probably split up and might be on the concrete by now.”

“Are they still heading our way?” You ask.

“Maybe,” she shrugs.

“How about the northern one?” You ask.

“I can do that,” Erika replies. “I’ll go wide to the north. The trees and fence should give me advanced warning of anything coming out the forests.”

“Whatever you think is safe,” you reply.

“I didn’t know you cared,” she teases.

“I have to, on pain of death,” you quip, sharing a laugh with your sibling.

>Slowly begin moving towards the airfield again

You leave Erika to it, turning back to the rest of your team.

“Let’s get moving towards the airfield again,” you say. “We might as well spring this trap, right?”

“As long as you’re in front of us!” Azusa cheers, getting snickers from others on the net.

“The rest of us, why don’t we head for the cover of the airport buildings?”

“Sounds good to me!” Azusa chirps. No one has any objections, so the lot of you begin to head for the buildings.

“Lead the way Max,” you order. He guns the engine, and you’re soon coming up on the airfield’s perimeter. “Punch through the fence.” You climb down and close your hatch as you give the order. The fence might be flimsy, but it can still give you a massive headache if it hits you.

The fence breaks with a massive clang, followed shortly by another massive clang.

“Commander Hermann! Something hit you!” Azusa says. “From the north!”

“Moving now,” Max confirms, Werewolf beginning to rumble forwards.

“Leopon, watch the flag tank for me,” you order, trusting them to do so as you rumble forwards.

“Give it to ‘em!” You hear Erika exclaim. You see the flash of her gun a moment later. It’s a welcome surprise when instead of waiting to see the damage she’s done, she immediately pops her smoke grenade launches and heads back to the buildings. Hopefully anyway, you can’t see her behind the smoke.

“Our turn, Ruby, about a kilometre on this bearing,” you order. “Aim for the second building from the right.”

The smoke round sails forward, exploding nicely against the building, probably obscuring the two KVs.

“Everyone else, kill the engines if you can, they don’t know we’re here yet, so no need to give them any more information on our position,” you order.

Max dutifully complies, turning Werewolf off, leaving the power traverse of your tank down to the battery. Most of the other nearby tanks do the same, but some – the flag M6 and the tank destroyers don’t.

“I’m alive,” Erika suddenly replies. “Man, how embarrassing. I take a hit from a KV-1 and I don’t even manage to kill it back.”

“It happens to the best of us,” you reassure her.

“Speaking of,” Anzu chuckles. “We’re being overrun.”

“That’s not good,” you sigh. “Can’t do anything to stop it?”

“Well, we don’t have a turret,” she replies. “And the Jumbo with us has a jammed turret so we’ll be dead soon.”

“We’re engaging a tank destroyer up here,” Miho chimes in. “We can’t see anything else so I’m detaching two tanks to hunt it down.

>Send tanks to help south. (Tank Destroyers)

You take a split second to think about it. While it is important to keep your combat power intact, and the enemy in front of you is still a threat as Erika found out, but if the enemy to the south finishes off the rest of Turtle team’s group, then you’re looking at being pincered, which is never fun.

“Ocelot, Hippo, there’s a problem to the south.”

“They’re getting overrun?” Erwin asks.

“Listening in?” You ask back. “Exactly, I need you two to head down and destroy or drive off those tanks.”

“Yeah, wouldn’t do to get caught between the two, would it?” Erwin chuckles. “We’re moving now.”

You watch as both tanks turn around and trundle down south.

“We’ll take positions to intercept them if they head for the forest cover,” Erwin says. “I don’t fancy our chances trying to knife fight with them.”

“I’ll leave you to it,” you reply, trusting Erwin to deal with the situation as she sees fit.

>None of the above, just wait
All of these options seem foolish. Asking Miho to advance with half her force before it regroups is asking to be picked apart by an enemy group in the northern trees. Sending a tank to the south of the airfield is problematic for reasons elaborated on before. Putting more smoke on where the KV-1's were just risks revealing our position and serves no practical purpose now that Erika is safe, and might even give the enemy light tanks a chance to close in on us if they wanted to.

“And that leaves us to sit back and relax,” you sigh as you sit against your cupola. Erika has finally rejoined you and is very loudly complaining about the damage done to her by the KVs.

“Erika…” you say trying to get through the ranting. “Erika! Either quite down or turn off your mic!”

“Oh,” she has the good sense to look embarrassed for a moment before going back to being angry about the damage to her tank.

“We’re run into two more light tanks up here,” you hear Anteater through the radio.

“I’ll send Duck team up and cover the west and southwest myself,” Miho orders. “Three tanks spotted up here, minimum three in the centre and five down south. That’s four tanks unaccounted for.”

“We know there’s three KV-1s, so that’s probably with the other three,” Yukari cuts in.

“Leaving three tanks unaccounted for,” Miho continues. “Either we’re being drawn into a trap up here, they’re waiting in the centre, or they’re following behind the tanks down south.”

“Turtle team will let us know if they pass,” you reply.

“And if they go wide around the forests?” Miho replies. “Through the hills?”

“Turtle, can the jumbo with you reach a position to have a look?”

“Once they’ve repaired their track,” Yuzu replies. “Might take them a while but the three light tanks bypassed instead of finishing them.”

I think it's clear at this point that they are not taking the bait. and our flanks aren't properly forming anyways. The plan isn't quite working out.

The southern group should be trapped between us, the TD's, and the Jumbo. and if the middle group makes a move Leonpon can let us know about it.

On the other hand, that southern group is going nowhere fast, and we already have tanks watching them that can pop them if they leave the forest, and chasing them might lead us on a wild goose chase while north group gets collapsed upon. North group might also be walking into an ambush, and if they are, they might be able to make a fighting retreat into us, where we can execute a devastating surprise counterattack.

Ah shit, blue option had an arrow from the TDs to the north, didn’t notice that. Well that’s a significant oversight
>>

In my mind, they're sort of reversing back so they can still cover with fire.

Rational of them moving too being their previous position is rather exposed to being flanked without the support of the rest of the group nearby.

Though on the other hand, it could be argued that if they stayed, they could have damaged or destroyed the light tank group as it dashed for cover.

Since it's an oversight I don't mind tweaking things a bit, doesn't cost me anything XD.

You listen to Erwin’s report as you rumble north, and quickly come to a decision.

“Got it, we’re moving back now,” she replies. You hear the crack of a couple more shots coming from Hippo team’s direction before the growing rumble of their engines starts to come through the mic. “They’re into the forest now, could be anywhere in it given how fast they can move through it.”

“Understood,” you reply. “Leo?” He passes you a map a moment later, with a circle scribbled on in oil pencil, the rough distance that they could have travelled in a couple minutes.

“Fast maths,” you commend. “Based on?”

“The BT-42 they saw down there,” he replies.

“Ocelot team, start pulling back,” you order. “Hippo team, I need you to make a run for the buildings, cover those unspotted tanks in the north of the building, we don’t want them coming out to intercept us.”

“We’re moving now,” Erwin confirms, followed shortly by a growing rumble as her tank speeds up.

“More smoke,” Nakajima reports through the radio. “All of the tanks we were watching for are probably moving now.”

“Got a contact!” Ocelot’s commander crows through the radio. You leave her to engage at will when something catches your eye to the west.

“A trio of T-34s, moving our way,” you report just as they start madly popping smoke.

“They’ve probably realised we’re attempting to group up,” Miho replies. “I see some KV-1s behind them as well.”

“Even better, we have them in a crossfire!” Erika crows gleefully.

“Stop moving!” You order the second you’ve decided on your course of action. At this point, after months of working together, the response is automatic, and all four tanks begin turning left to face the oncoming rush. “Shark team, dump your HE into the smoke then head south to reinforce the StuG. Rabbit team, dump HE but stay put.”

“I’m not switching to HE,” Erika warns you staring you down from 400 meters away.

“I’m aware,” you sigh, getting a round of laughter from the other members of your crew. Further banter is cut off by the crack of shells whistling past you followed a moment later by the rumble of Shark team’s engine as they make best speed south.

For a moment it seems like the detonation of the high explosive makes things worse, but the smoke begins to slip away, revealing the tanks charging towards you.

“Ruby?”

“Yes, Fritz?”

“Fire when ready,” you order. “And make sure Axel is ready to give you as much SUHE as he can.”

First blood is struck by Hippo team a moment later. A round flies out of the warehouses slamming into a T-34, followed a second later by one from the north which is probably Hana making her mark. The tank spins out and pops a flag, having been struck in weak side armour.

Erika strikes out next, her gun finding another of the T-34s in the vanguard followed by the Leopon hitting a tank you think might be out already.

“Any time now Ruby,” you tease. It’s been maybe twenty seconds, but the rest of your team seems to be on the ball today.

“I’m getting there!” She snaps back. A moment later she begins firing. “On the way!”

A hit, you see it slam into a KV-1 which somehow survives, getting a confused grunt from Leo.

“I thought that was Suped-up HE,” he murmurs.

“On the way!” Ruby exclaims, ignoring it for now.

Another hit – this one into the T-34 Erika hit, knocking it out.

“On the way!”

The third looks to fly true, tumbling at the last minute and spraying dirt all over the lucky KV-1.

“Two-thirds,” Max says. “Sloppy.” Earning him a kick from Ruby.

“Leopon, Erika, are you able to deal with those two approaching light tanks?” You ask as you survey the oncoming heavy tanks.

“Sure, we just need to get turned around,” Nakajima reports. “We should be able to start shooting at them soon.”
