/qst/ - Quests

The desert kingdom of Carmine. Home to inhospitable territory, a blazing sun which never ceases to scorch all earth beneath it. Home of men who rule both the home and land. It is a land of masculinity, a land where only the strong can survive. Women cannot hold positions of power, and are subject to the whims of their husbands.

The Lions of Carmine were once proud warriors who believed heavily in honor, dignity and respect. But a number of issues both internal and abroad leave it struggling for survival. You're here to save that failing kingdom. The Azure cities are a collection of rotting piles of estrogen. Adorned gaudily with statues to further extol them as goddesses. You escaped Artemisia in the land of Azure, to find out what it truly means to be a man. To leave behind what was in the past, and carve out a new destiny for yourself.

Your name, Is Mist Aeon. And this, is your story of redemption.
=======

With you, you brought of course,

1. A mighty Wyvern Steed who flies quickly, and has powerful breath to exterminate enemies

2. A Lark, member of an extreme feminist movement in chains as your slave.

3. A trove of wealth to start over with a new life

You chose to capture a woman from the extremist cult within Artemisia. The cult known as the Larks. While men in the Azure kingdom are slaves. They aren't often subject to torture and death without reason. But the Larks are violent feminist extremists who routinely murder and torture men and advocate for their continued subjugation. They have connections within it's government, and they are a monstrous force of strength.

Flora Cakeflour, the twin fanged demon of Artemisia. Responsible for 14 murders of innocent men. And as brutal and violent as their deaths were. You saw something different in her. A woman raised by the Larks into a culture of brutality. Rather than leave her to deteriorate. You knocked her out, and captured her before making your escape. She's dangerous for sure. And letting your guard down is a sure way to die. But her blades are worth having if this bird can be tamed.

You're out in the fields headed towards the Carmine wastes. Flora is there with you. Laying on the ground looking defeated.

"Just kill me. To what hell are you dragging me to man animal?"

"I tried to tell you earlier as we were riding in the carriage. We're headed out to Carmine. We're going to save their kingdom."

"Of course, because that's your true nature. You earned your Wings of the Dove, and were born into the noble Aeon house. But just like every man. Your true nature is brutality and rape. And you're going to Carmine to realize that aren't you?"

You squat down next to her, "Listen, the Azurite kingdom is corrupt as hell. They always talk about it's beauty and culture. But beauty without substance is empty. It lacks refinement. You tell men the moment they are born that they are inferior to you. And you expect them to endure endless mistreatment."

"They are inferior."

"I brought you out here to see the world from a different perspective. To see the world as it truly is outside of Azurite."

She looks a bit skeptical. Sitting up a bit looking over at you.

"Give up. Go back now. I'm sure you can still return and reclaim your status. Don't throw your life and mine away for this."

You chuckle at her,

"Trying to reason with a man are we? I thought we men weren't capable of understanding in the same way women are. You see, I'm not leaving Azurite to throw my life away, I'm leaving it to truly begin my life anew."

She seems stunned for a moment not seeming to have considered this. But then sighs.
"You're a damn fool. But I'll keep my blade from your throat at night out of curiosity alone. You'll see that our way is the truth. And that your masculine urges are sinful."

Into the wastes you wander. Sand furiously whipping into your face. You and Flora bracing yourself against it. Now is that time... The time you must remember, which one of those Fickle Goddesses you swore an oath to. That magic that will guide you on your journey, which will be the one you choose?
----

Evangeline: Goddess of Light and Beauty. Guiding light of the Azurite. Her magic gives you holy abilities like healing, smiting of evil, and the ability to manipulate light and create illusion. Perhaps you chose her because you see that the true beauty in the world is harmony between the sexes.

Tempest: Goddess of Darkness and Strength. Friend to the Carmine. Often portrayed as a male god by the Carmine due to Carmines desire to have no female figures as beings of worship. Tempest grants strength, the ability to cloak oneself in shadows. Mind reading and manipulation, and dark tendrils to bind.

Controversially, you chose Tempest as your deity of choice. While it is true that the Worship of Tempest isn't unheard of in Azure, it tends to be a rarity given that most people associate the beauty and light of Evangeline with the divine femininity.

Evangeline shuns that which is ugly, and desires a world of light and beauty. Tempest went neglected for many years because very few worshiped her initially. That is until she appeared before the Carmine Tribes, who, desperate for aid called on her help in battle.

And she granted them the strength they desired. She cared not that they rejected the feminine aspect of her, she was happy to be appreciated. The followers of Tempest in Azure say she is a lonely goddess, that they can feel her longing for friendship. They say because she is an eternal being, she is cursed to know eternal loneliness as those who favor her are doomed to their own mortality.

You decide to call upon her power to protect you from these desert gales. And in front of you a pair of semi-transparent black angel wings appears and shields you and Flora from the gusts. But it does more than that, You can feel the harsh sunlight above, it’s heat evaporating, and the cool darkness of her wings giving you shade and comfort as you and Flora move forward.

Flora grumbles, “Heretic male magic… It figures you would resort to such things.” You just smile and shrug,

“Well, it should keep us cool now won’t it? Weren’t you complaining earlier about this stifling heat as I was just a moment ago?”

Flora with arms folded responds as the two of you move forward through the wastes. “The land here is like this because men rejected the divine femininity. It is a forsaken place.”

“All the more reason it is in desperate need of salvation. If the Azurite win they will no doubt enslave the Carmine and force them to mine out its resources for its own ends, and this hell will never see the green it deserves.”

Flora responds again, “I was told that if men accepted divine femininity that the land would be returned to a green state.”

You can’t help but smile as you reply, “But you should know full well Evangeline is a spiteful Goddess, who shuns all that is ugly to her. And if it is to be believed, it is likely her power keeping this land uninhabitable.”

Flora is stunned into silence much like before. Seeming to quietly ponder what you’ve said. Tempest right now is far weaker than Evangeline. She’s probably doing everything she can just to keep the soil fertile enough to grow crops.

The Carmine don’t all believe in Tempest, mostly the warriors, the Lions of Carmine seer her as a battle god. Without believers, goddesses lose their power. And Tempest is the only one who has it in her heart to save the Carmine from their own foolishness. Even that matter aside you’ve heard of division between the Carmine themselves, a civil war of rivaling factions.. Starvation, corruption, infrastructure issues. The Carmine are brutal warriors full of ambition, and masculine pride. Strong enough to build great structures.

But that brash pig-headedness has a time and a place, and it is not served well where cooler heads and calmer minds do prevail. Left alone it is inevitable it will collapse, and the Azurite will march boldly through their streets. And so too would men be forever under the boot of women, never to know freedom. Enslaved to a kingdom of women with all the power of a vain goddess to further subjugate them.

You arrive at the first civilization in some time. The oasis city known as Shimmaragraba. Where before you passed many ruins of failed or destroyed towns along the way. Shimmaragraba is the first truly thriving place. Merchants say it is mostly welcoming to outsiders. Even the odd Azurite which may find themselves out here is not necessarily shunned. With the Carmine on the losing end of a centuries long war, the public discourse tends to favor the winning army.

You arrive at the front gates where a booth is set up. Its a travel pass into Carmine. You pay a small fee to acquire a travel pass and enter into the city. Inside the city it’s dusty and dry with sand piled up against decaying stone. But the activity here is bustling, a stark contrast to the harsh silence of before.

Flora looks to you, “Well, what now?”

“I was thinking we could find some lodging, maybe an inn somewhere. And then we could have maybe sex or something...”

“What was that last part?”

“Er, the Inn, we need to find a place to sleep-”

“The other part!”

“Right, I was thinking we could have sex, since you’re my slave and all.”

“No.”

“Huh?”

“No.”

“But why?”

“Its not like I’m surprised anyways. I knew you were going to do this.”

“You really had no faith in me at all did you?”

“You are a man after all.”

The crowd in the marketplace nearby fills the otherwise awkward silence. “I mean, you’re absolutely really sure you don’t wanna have sex willingly? Cause otherwise that’s gonna make our journey together really awkward. And, I’m pretty horny right now. And I’m determined to have hot raunchy sex with you no matter what.”

She looks at you furiously. Grabs your hand and starts leading you through the marketplace. You have a bad feeling about this.

“Uh, so we’re going to an inn right? Are you sure you know where-”

“Yes. We’re going to the inn. It seems we have no choice. I’ll have to quell the ravenous beast in you myself.”

"Nope, I’m gonna tell everyone. By the way, look forward to more of that. I’ll take you whenever I please, and you’re going to like it every time."

Floras jaw drops. "You dare make such a statement to me?"

"Considering I bed you so easily and made you into my bitch for the night, yes actually."

Flora puffs and folds her arms looking away from you. You can tell she's upset. Perhaps this was a bit far? Nah, she is a killer of men. Surely she's made of sterner stuff than that.

"Now I'm off to find a merchant to chat with. We'll bang ok?"

"AUGH!" She storms out of the room. You have a mind to chase after her, but you're not too concerned about her running away. Her pride has been shattered too much for her to turn back now. In any case, it's time to head out!

You're out and about in the evening now perusing the merchant stalls. The desert winds blowing up bits of sand. Chatter all around as people buy and sell their wares. You suddenly spot a very odd, and out of place knight with silver ornate armor among the raggedly dressed ruffians.

He spots you and gruffly speaks, "Hey there out of towner! I saw you from afar earlier with a blonde haired woman. You're from Azure aren't you?"

Not much point in denying it, it's hardly like you're disguised. A thing to keep in mind is that hair color is a pretty easy way to identify which side someone is on. If their hair is red or brown, they're a carmine. If their hair is blonde, white, or black, they're an azurite. Some exceptions do apply, but this is a general rule that makes it easy to spot who's on what side even from a distance.

"Yes, my name is Mist. I'm an escapee from Azure. My girlfriend was here with me earlier."

He smiles and pats your shoulder. "I bet you have a story to tell! My name is Dane. I'm part of the knights of Hellrot. Or Hellrot Loyalists if you prefer."

"Hellrot huh? Like Gavenius Hellrot, the king right? Sorry, I'm a bit confused, heard there was a civil war, could you explain some of this for me?"

"Sure, it's pretty simple. If you don't know, in order to become king back in Gavenius time, you'd need to kill him. Kill the king to become the king, pretty simple."

"Ok... So I take it someone killed him?"

"Not in the field of battle. Which was the problem. He was killed by a dirty stinking coward in his sleep. A coward which currently is a part of the Gauntlet."

"The Gauntlet?"

"The Red Gauntlet yes. You see, we loyalists believe that because Gavenius wasn't killed in battle, it doesn't count as his succession to the throne. Therefore his son, our new king and leader, Garret Hellrot has taken his place."

"Then the Gauntlets want to put things back how it was?"

"Yeah, they believe only the strongest should lead. But Gavenius was a great man, undefeated in his time. Won so many battles against the Azurite, and improved the land overall. If only you could've seen him in person."

"So basically you want a new monarchy which is determined by their blood relation to Gavenius..."

"Technically, it's the old monarchy, but yes."

You nod. "Gotcha, I'll uh... I'll consider that. Where's the local smithing place anyways?"

"Just down the road there."

"Thanks, I'll be on my way then." You turn and quickly walk away from him. He calls out to you from behind.

"Maybe consider joining us! Keep power in the hands of the worthy!"

You sigh and wander off. As if you'd join without seeing what the other side has to say.

And so off you go, and as your sword is getting sharpened, you come across a rather muscular looking dude waiting outside the smithing place. He calls out to you.

"Fancy looking armor there. You're an Azurite aren't you?"

"Formerly, but I suppose. I escaped from there."

"Names Gren, have you heard about the Red Gauntlet boy?"

"I've heard you only take the strongest."

He leans in and grins. "Those pussy loyalists call our leader a coward. Despite the fact that our leader killed theirs. As such we deserve to be in charge."

"Yeah but... Didn't he kill Gavenius in his sleep?" He growls loudly back and says,

"NO! Shut your worthless mouth! A kill is a kill. And a good man would've known to keep his guard up at all times. The Red Gauntlet is tradition, it's the right way. Ruling by strength, the manly way. You're a real man aren't you?"

He shoves you up against the stone wall nearby. You can't draw your sword as it's being worked on right now.

"Answer me!"

He's strong, those muscles aren't for show. He's your average Lion alright. In a strength to strength contest there's no way he wouldn't mop the floor with you. But Doves have never used brute strength alone to win. You can see how he moves, his muscles, his movements, they're almost painfully slow compared to the Doves you've trained against.

You recall the endless hours of training, being beat to shit by the women in the army. Even if you hate the Doves, calling them weak is foolish. They inject themselves from birth with magical steroids making them just as powerful as an average man. But the Lions of Carmine STILL are physically stronger even with that advantage. So Doves do what they're best at. They're small agile fighters. They move at blinding speeds and use clever unconventional tactics to win.

You've adopted this fighting style as a noble of the Aeon house. Brutal, swift, elegant and precise. If you wanted, you could crush Gren with little issue.

No way you're joining up with the Red Gauntlet, especially if they're this aggressive just meeting someone. Time to teach this pile of shit some manners.

"Hey you listening to me? I asked you-" You take the opportunity while he's running his mouth to punch him hard in the throat. He coughs choking loudly, wildly flailing his arms. When his arm brushes past you, you flip him over your knee facefirst into the wall. He falls to the ground coughing with his nose running over with blood. He looks up at you with eyes of hatred as he lays there on the ground wounded. But you finish him off with a brutal kick slamming his head against the wall knocking him out cold.

"Trash. Don't lay your hands on me." You say cooly before walking off.

You find Flora nearby after your sword is done being repaired. She's sitting on a wood bench near the edge of town.
"Took you long enough to come find me."

"I had errands you know." You walk over and sit next to her. "Listen, there are two factions in this civil war. And I'm thinking of joining the Loyalists. I don't know much other than they follow a man named King Garret, son of the late Gavenius."

She glares off into the distance. "This town is disgusting. The men here treat the women like garbage. And worse, I even saw a few women selling themselves to them shamelessly. They have no pride either."

You place your hand on her shoulder, "That's how things are around here. You aught to have known that. It's the reverse back home."

"I know. I'm sure this place is like a dream come true to you. But there's no way I can live in a place that treats me like a second class-" She catches herself and realizes for a moment what she's saying.

You smile politely. "What was that?" She sighs heavily at you. "Very well, I see your point sir Aeon."

"I hope you'll continue to realize the error of your ways in the future. Till then, I'm content to continue to humble you."

She doesn't seem happy about this.

After that, you decide to head back into the main part of town, finding Dane the knight from earlier. And he agrees to let you into the army.
---
After taking a carriage ride for a few days you arrive at the desert capital of Carmine. And enter into the stone palace walls where you're taken to a lush green garden where a man with blonde hair and ornate golden armor awaits you. He seems to be tending to a rose bush with some shears. He wipes the sweat from his brow and greets you.
"Greetings, I am King Garret." He says offering his hand. You take it and grasp it firmly.
"Hello there your majesty. I'm Mist from Artemisia, I've come to join your side!"

"So it would seem! I heard word ahead of time. So you're the escapee from Artemisia. And might I say, a rather distinguished looking escapee at that. You wouldn't happen to be of noble lineage would you?"

"Yes I am a noble of the house Aeon. And your blonde hair, you are from there too as well somehow?"

He chuckles softly to himself. "Come, walk with me, I'll tell you all about it." You nod and walk with him. You see the garden courtyard with a lovely assortment of flowers and plants. Ivy adorning the pillars and walkways. Much a refreshment from the dry desert.

"So is your dad really Gavenius Hellrot?"

"Yes. He raped my mother. A Dove of the Azurite. She was his 'battle prize' as he puts it." He seems annoyed based on how he phrases that.

"I take it you didn't like him."

"No actually, I really didn't. The man spent most of his time not on the battlefield drunk and belligerent. A damn strong warrior, but not much else."

"This garden is wonderful. I saw you tending to it as I walked in. I must say, it's quite lovely."

He seems taken with your praise. "Truly? You're the first to say so. I was always told my love of gardening was a womanly trait."

"Where I come from that'd have been a compliment. My mother for instance hated men. I wear my hair long and keep myself thin for that reason."

He laughs patting you on the shoulder. "Truly we are brothers parted by distance. A noble like myself as well!"
>>
>>5400542
"I am flattered your highness. I would hear more of your rise to power. Surely the Reds didn't take kindly to a blonde haired Lord rising?"

"Many didn't. I knew I would never be king by way of battle. So when my oafish father got himself killed. I did what any bastard child would do and usurped what I could for myself."

"Oh."

"Yes, I admit it. But it was I who was the one behind many of the projects behind fixing the kingdom before. And my aids and retainers know this. Choosing your leader by strength alone is foolish. And leads to rash decision making."

"Rash decisions huh?"

He smiles staring wistfully off the terrace over his kingdom.

"The battle of Fort Emerald. It should've been simple. I was sent out to assist. But I was not put in charge. They put in the strong and brutish Commander Thag. He was one of the ones who won his position because of his strength. And I was told it wouldn't do to have someone womanly like me to lead it."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"Yes... I had told Thag that a straightforward assault needed more careful planning. And we needed more time to properly seize the fort. But he wouldn't hear a word of it. He boldly charged forward. We must've had something like 5 times their numbers. And yet we had nearly lost everything by the end of it."

"Truly that bad?"

"It was raining that day, and the Azurites had a new weapon, transparent arrows. Before we'd known it, half our line was quilled up like porcupines. Our siege engines slow and stuck in the mud. Rain sleeting in our faces. It wasn't a battle, it was a slaughter. And so after Thag met his foolish end, I sounded the retreat for what little remained of our forces. Were it not for me we'd have lost all of it."

"That's horrible."

"I was blamed of course. I was smart enough to realize the battle wouldn't end well. But I was shamed for it, and lost prestige."
