Waluigi? No one really knows for sure what he does. In fact he randomly showed up one day and started living with them. Mario thought he was with Luigi, Luigi thought he was with wario, Wario thought he was with Mario.

It's strange how mundane your profession is, really. But hey, it made ends meet and helped you pay your share, so nobody really bothered to question it the day you first arrived. Though what they did know is that you had a passion for tennis, and could easily beat anyone at the sport (or so you bragged. While skilled, you weren't any match for the big-league professionals at Sarasaland).
Still, most of that was far in the past. Right now you were...

A good vacuum is important, especially if 4 guys live together in one house.

>Chatting it up with Mario by the entrance. He seems to have some ideas about what the mansion needs fixed. Could be a good excuse to explore while helping out.

You are making a bit of small talk with the red plumber by the entrance, he’s taking a look at what appears to be a rough diagram of the plumbing system of the mansion. A small frown forms on his face “Hm, I was-a expecting this place to not-a be good, but this is a-pretty bad.”
“What do you mean, eh?” you almost regret asking.
“Well, there are-a some leaks in the kitchen and bathroom faucets, the basement floods a bit every-a time it the toilet on the right-a wing flushes, the showers are not-a working, and the-a toilet on the left side is a-busted.”
“And that’s-a not all, there-a needs to be painting done” well that much was obvious “some of the walls need to-a be replaced I think, Luigi will-a know more about it than me.”
Yeah, that seemed pretty bad. And that wasn’t even touching the renovations that had to be done to the parts neither of you know about. Well, you saw a hole in the roof of the house while you four were driving up to the mansion. You could ask Luigi to see what he could do about it, but for some reason **it seemed like a bad idea to mess with.**
“I guess we should get some junk from town to fix stuff” you say, to which Mario responds with a brief nod “I will-a go make a list sometime-a later.”
“Let’s-a get my tools from the trunk, I want to-a get something fixed as soon as possible.” He then leans against the wooden railing of the terrace while starting to go down the stairs, promptly dislodging a small portion of it “…we should-a go get Luigi too. Do you know where he is?”
You shrug your shoulders “Don’t know. He had that fancy cleaner on his back, so he’s probably inside.”
“You a-mean that vacuum? Wasn’t it a-broken?” he asks, to which you reply with another shrug.
After some more discussion and light banter, you both get the tools needed to start some repairs.
What will you do next?

>Help Mario with the plumbing. You’re not sure what you can assist with, but it’ll be quicker than letting him fix it alone. You’ll familiarize yourself with more of the mansion while doing this.

>Go back to town with Wario after getting that list from Mario, and get more supplies as needed with the money you three might have. Mario and Luigi definitely need some things, and both you and Wario know your ways in getting a deal.

>Try to find Luigi, get his view on how things are here. You’ll definitely get a feel for the mansion by doing this. Though going alone is slightly unnerving, but there might be something interesting for you to find… (Roll for an event, 1d100 – DC of 50 to find Luigi, 80 to find something useful)

>Go back to town with Wario after getting that list from Mario, and get more supplies as needed with the money you three might have. Mario and Luigi definitely need some things, and both you and Wario know your ways in getting a deal.

You’re in the car with Wario, who's blasting some rock on the radio. Conversations start about the mansion, but always gravitate towards money. The trip itself is mostly uneventful, save for the occasional Yoshi by the road.
Gradually the familiar place comes into view. The town itself is known as Greensprout Village; known for its lazy days, innocent citizens, and vibrant yet almost modern appearance.
Wario parks near a market plaza beside a few other vehicles. Nothing too conspicuous, you noted. The local townspeople are going about their day in as usual, some even whistling and skipping. You can’t help but smile a bit. All of these suckers in such a small space. But you’re not here to sell half-beat up vehicles yet.
You both exit the car and enter a nearby store. Inside you’re greeted by a rather nervous looking floral girl.
“O-oh customers! Welcome the Dayzee’s Amazy Emporium! H-how can I help you?”
You and Wario glance at each other for a second. Then you both turn to her and smile.
This is going to be too easy.

- A few hours later –

You stuff the last piece of ceramic tile into the back seat, the trunk having been filled to the brim with miscellaneous parts, planks and tools some time ago. You were able to get almost everything on that list, but by far the best part of all of this is that you were still able to keep more than half of the money you came here with!
With you and Wario’s shrewd tactics combined you were able to knock down the price of every purchase in every store and stall you went to by at least half. But you saw that Wario was getting reckless and sloppy the more successes you both had, needing you to steer the conversation back on track twice. Maybe that sort of behavior was why his banking scheme fell apart, not that you’d ever tell that to his face.
The trip back was somehow more uneventful that the trip here. When you get return home, you notice Luigi is sitting on the bench by the front, looking slightly irritated.
You decide to…

>Approach Luigi and talk to him. Something must’ve happened to annoy someone usually so even tempered. Besides, you’re still a bit curious about that vacuum cleaner. Though you’re not exactly a caring person, so you can’t expect being able to make him less miffed.

>Focus on helping Wario unload the stuff. Probably best to let Luigi be, you can ask him about whatever happened later.

>Go find Mario and tell him you and Wario got the needed parts, as well as managing to save more some cash. He’s probably somewhere in the mansion. This could be a good opportunity to actually look around the place. (Roll for an event, 1d100 – 65 DC to find Mario and 90 for a secret event)

>Approach Luigi and talk to him. Something must’ve happened to annoy someone usually so even tempered. Besides, you’re still a bit curious about that vacuum cleaner. Though you’re not exactly a caring person, so you can’t expect being able to make him less miffed.

Curiosity gets the best of you, and after telling Wario you’d be back to help him put some things in the mansion after a quick word with ‘Green Stache’ you go to talk to the carpener.

“What’s up Weege?” you say, causally approaching him. He hates being called that, and you know it.

“Nothing you would-a care about, Twig-arms.” Luigi deadpans with a bit of a glare. It’s honestly rather shocking to see him act this way, but in the end it barely fazes a smooth talker like yourself.

You bellow out your signature laugh before responding “Grew a bit of nerve, eh?” And after a few more Wahs you think for a second and then follow up with “Did that dust sucker break for good, or something?”

Sighing, Luigi takes a small slip of paper from his pocket and hands it to you. It’s a warranty for a Boo-Away Flashlight, and you give it a quick glance. But you’re already familiar with these types, having used them before on unsuspecting customers. Seems like good old Green Bean got scammed by a ‘professor E. Gadd.’
That or the professor must be incompetent enough with paperwork to write out such a warranty.

“Eh, sucks to suck” you say, giving a nonchalant shrug and throwing the offending object back to him.

“That’s-a not what- I mean the doc is can be truste - oh nevermind” He says a bit dejectedly “I swear this-a house is a-trying to get me…” Luigi adds in a lower tone.

“Out to get you? Wahaha! You scared of little Boos floating around?” It’s common knowledge that Boos tend to have a habit of squatting in abandoned places and annoying anyone that moves in. They’re easy to get rid of most of the time, especially with inventions like a Suction Vacuum or a Boo-Away Flashlight. Though just telling them to get lost does the trick as far as you’re aware. Usually they don’t make themselves known so soon after someone resides somewhere, so these must be a bolder sort than most.
>>
>>5446732
“You-a don’t understand, one moment I’m checking the-a inside walls and dusting off the attic, the next I’m-a falling through the floor! Every faucet I use gets me a-blasted with water, all the lights go-a off five minutes (and-a I counted them) after I turn them on, and the stove shot out a fireball and burnt my favorite cap!” And after grumbling a bit in Italian he goes quiet, clearly stewing about something else.
Favorite cap? You didn’t really notice any difference between the one he’s wearing now and the prior. Besides, these seemed like problems that Mario and Luigi himself would take care of. As surprising as it might to some people, you knew from experience that Fire Flower powered stoves tended to spit out fireballs if not maintained after a certain number of years. Still, it could all easily be a string of coincidences without Boo interference, which brings you back to the question of the vacuum. From the few times you’ve seem it it’s not like any Suction Vacuum you know of, but neither does it look like any normal appliance either.

“About that vacuum, did you get it to work?”

“No, I-a did not. But the moment I put it back in the a-storage I didn’t get any more trouble from he house” Now that bit was interesting. Scrapping your prior musing, you immediately theorize that this vacuum is something any Boo would want to keep away from. Must be a rare model.

“The storage? Where’d that be?” You ask after some thought. You never really got to see much of the mansion itself, save for its front while talking to Mario. But to be fair, it is still only the first day.

“Go to the courtyard, and then take a right. It’s a few feet from the well, can’t miss it.”

After saying a brief thank you the green-clad woodworker, you head towards…
>>
>>5446734
>The storage. You want to see that thing alone. Though you probably won’t be able to repair it, you might be able to find out more about it after some careful inspection. Wario is strong enough to take care of the stuff, and he’ll be genial about you leaving him to do everything. Probably.

> The front door to wait for Wario. Tell him about Luigi’s misadventures and invite him to check out the vacuum. He’s sure to get a kick out of both these things, but its safe to say Luigi probably won’t be amused.

>The car. You said you’d help Wario with whatever’s left. It’ll be a bit of a work out, since you’re easily the weakest of the four. And finally going through the Mansion would be interesting, especially with such a powehouse like Wario. I shouldn't have put that hyphen there, I can see it caused a little bit of confusion.

And sorry for the delay, real life kept getting in the way of writing.

Deciding to go back to the car and help with unloading things, you do just that. Picking up one of the two remaining toolboxes, some small wooden planks, and a question mark block for good measure, you’re carrying as much as you can while still being able to walk at a relatively brisk pace if you wanted to.

You feel a small chill on the back of your neck, and have the feeling that someone is watching you. But a quick look around doesn’t reveal anything, other than Luigi apparently opting to take a nap on the bench. Aren’t there beds in the house for that? But you suppose Green probably doesn’t want to go back in so soon after what happened.

Just as you’re about to go up the front steps your intimidating new home, you suddenly realize that you don’t know where to put any of the items. Of course, you could always go to the storage, but you felt that getting things to the places where they should be would save some time. Besides, you didn’t know how packed the storage was. You’d have to talk to Mario about these things again. But almost immediately after finishing that string of thought, the doors to the mansion opened, and out of them Wario strolls out.
Glancing upwards at you, his shortness and your tallness more apparent with him being on top of the stairs leading down, he nods in acknowledgement before going on his way, likely to get the remaining things from the car.

Deciding that the best course of action was to go with someone else, and not wanting to bother Luigi, you decide to go back to the car and talk with Wario a bit before going with him to the mansion.

“Ey, what’s up Wario? Did the Boos get you too?” you say, casually approaching him.

“Boos? Haven’t seen any. But that’s no surprise; I wouldn’t want to mess with all of this! Wahaha!” the man in yellow thunders, flexing his muscles all the while. You join him in his laughter as he easily picks up a bag of bricks from the trunk and swings it onto his shoulder “Did you see some?”

“No, but they probably messed with Greenie. We’ve got a few confident ones around here.” You say as you accompany him. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Luigi still sleeping.

“Confident or stupid” Wario replies with little nuance. He takes a ladder from the car, puts it under his spare arm and begins to move back towards the front doors.

Nodding in agreement, you go with him. Soon you both climb the stairs leading in, and, seeing that Wario has his hands full, you open one of the doors for to enter in after placing down one of the toolboxes.
Finally entering the mansion, it’s not exactly what you expected it to be. While there are signs of wear in the walls and tearing in the wallpaper, there is a striking lack of dust around as well as various rolls of wallpaper, brushes and paint buckets over large swaths of white cloth by the walls. It seems the other three haven’t been idle. You see the stairs leading up from the foyer, but they aren’t high enough to reach the second floor. In fact they only seem to help in giving the mansion a slight rise upward, probably due to the slight incline the place was built on. Wario takes a turn to the left going up some even less impressive stairs and from there through a well decorated, albeit short, hallway.
After passing a couple of doors you both go towards the dining room, you find that the place is a mess.
>>
>>5453458
Chairs are strewn around everywhere, the main table is broken in half, a chandelier is broken on the ground, and there is a gaping man-sized hole on the ceiling. This must be the area where Luigi fell through. A quick glance up at the hole confirms that’s the case; you can see straight to the roof from here. Thinking back, you’re surprised that he seemed relatively unhurt from the whole ordeal. You recall about that hole in the roof you saw while arriving here for a few moments, before getting startled back to reality by Wario suddenly opening and putting down the ladder in the center of the room. With a sigh, he walks toward the kitchen, motioning for you to follow.
Entering the kitchen, you’re almost shocked at the state of the place. All the walls are charred, there is soot practically everywhere. Most of the things there seem unusable, the drawers were all open, and most of the utensils seemed to be melted or otherwise unusable. The faucet seemed to have been somewhat fixed, but it was a temporary solution at best. But the real point of interest was the oven. You were familiar with what this was: a classic Fire Flower Powered Instant Baking oven with a stovetop included. You knew they didn’t make these models anymore. Unlike the rest of the room it was completely unharmed, in fact it looked like it was recently installed and straight out of the store. Glancing over to Wario, you can see the confusion written on his face.
He was about to take a closer look when you noticed the power button lighting on. A sudden memory warned you about what was going to happen.

“Watch out, it’s gonna blow!” you yelled to Wario. Without a second of hesitation, he charges out of the way with his elbow in front of him, almost barreling through you as you both escaped the kitchen.
It was a lucky thing you noticed the tells when you did, since the entire kitchen was engulfed in an inferno the moment the both of you were out. Yet a few seconds later the fire died off completely, leaving no trace of it behind. This was hardly surprising, since the fire from Fire Flowers was hardly as deadly as the real thing (you knew it had to do with some sort of magic stuff only eggheads could explain) but it was dangerous enough to cause some serious damage.

“…so what was that about, eh?” Wario said, after putting down his sack of bricks. It was impressive he was able to carry them through all of that, you had to admit.

“Probably what happened to Luigi” you replied “Weird it went off again so soon, these sorts of things are rare.”

“You think it was a Boo?” Wario said without skipping a beat “But don’t those guys usually just keep it to pranks and stuff?”

“Yeah, they do” you remember your last experience with a Boo haunted place. They’d never try something as extreme as this “Could just be a freak coincidence. Either way, I bet that Flower is spent after that stunt.”
You put down the toolbox, planks and question mark block and think about what to do next.

>”…hey Wario, could you haul that thing outta here?” Too much trouble for what it’s worth. It could be a potential long-term hazard.

>”Leave it to me, I can fix this junk.” You have a general idea of how to repair it. The benefits of having an over that can instantly cook something outweigh the costs. (Roll 1d20 to repair, DC of 10 to get it running again, 17 to find out why it’s acting the way it is)

What will you do after dealing with the oven?

>Go find Mario. Bring the stuff you have with you, it could help him out.

>Start fixing up the mansion. Best to get it done sooner than later (Do you bring Wario with you to help or split up with him to cover more ground?)

>Seek out Luigi. He’s a carpenter, and that alone could be of use around here.

Can't have the newly bought house burning down.

“…Wario, can you move that oven?” It really hurts to get rid of such a classic, but the risks outweigh the pros, especially now since you four are just moving in.

“Nothing’s too much for the great Wario to move. Want it gone?”

“Yeah, the sooner the better.” You say to the ex-banker. The chances of the fire going off again while Wario's moving the oven are lowered dramatically after you quickly disconnect some things in it before handing over the job.

>Go find Mario. Bring the stuff you have with you, it could help him out.

"You know where Mario is? I’d like to help him out.”

“He’s at the bathrooms closest to here, just go up the hall and to the right, near the back exit. Buncha stuff on the ground leading to him, can’t miss it.” He says before getting to work. You decide to do the same, and exit the kitchen with all of the things you took with you.

Taking Wario’s advice, you’re able to quickly find the plumber. He’s working on the showers, various items strewn about near him. You approach him and set down the things you have.

“So, what’s up?” You say with your usual eloquence and charm.

“Shower-heads are-a leaking, that’s-a what’s up.” Mario says, getting straight to business “…what’s in the question mark block?”

“Ice Flower, probably.” The toad you got this one from stuttered a bit too much when you were buying this particular item, but you’re pretty certain it’s an Ice Flower.

“Hm, why’d you-a get one in a block? I-a thought buying them as is would be cheaper.”

Ah, a good observation from the usually trusting buyer. Seriously, that guy always pays what he thinks things are worth. You’ve even heard that he asks for prices to be raised when he thinks it’s not a ‘fair’ trade!

“Didn’t want to buy a Flower just to have it wilt after not using it.”

“That’s wise, we should-a try to keep it until we a-need it for something.” He then turns to you from his tinkering as he says “so you-a want to-a help here?”

“I thought I could at least do some assistant work, if nothing else. Gotta get those pipes running if we want to do anything here.”

“That’s-a true. Could you-a open that toolbox you brought in here? I want to-a see what we can use…”

In the end you were able to help Mario with the plumbing around the bathroom here, though you needed to go back to the car to get some more things. While there you noticed that the other toolbox was gone, and Luigi wasn’t lying on the bench any longer; seems like he decided to get back to work after his little adventure. As for your own work, you were able to help Mario and Luigi when needed while Wario took care of most of the heavy lifting.

Daylight eventually melted into dusk, and eventually the four of you congregated by the tennis courtyard and had to decide what to do about where to sleep for tonight. While none of you save for Luigi had gone to the second floor, you all knew from the Green man himself that there were five small yet opulent bedrooms over there. But before any agreement could be made, Mario revealed that there were more beds in the servant’s room, right near the entrance of the first floor.
Eventually the choice between going to either one of those bedrooms or bunking together in the servant’s quarters, with Wario pushing for going to the bedrooms immediately and Mario being the main voice for temporarily situating ourselves in the servant’s room before settling in to unknown places of the mansion.

>”Mario’s right, we should sleep in the servant’s quarters. They have bunk beds, and we’ll be safer there.” This is the more unpopular choice, but safer overall. Besides, you’re no stranger to sleeping in cheap places.

>”This is a mansion, we should live like we’re in one!” don’t settle for anything less, this is a fancy place and you’re gonna make the most of it!

>Luigi has been awfully quiet. What are his thoughts on the matter? (Roll 1d100, DC of 50 to find out what’s wrong with more than 80 as a crit)

Mario looks at you with a smile “see? He-a gets it!” And with a wave of his hand he turns down the hallway towards the Servant’s rooms. Wario looked like he wanted to voice his opinion, but he opts into just deadpanning at you. You give a shrug and follow the plumber.

The first thing you notice before entering the room is the odd placement of the place; it being surprisingly close to the entrance with a nice view of the outside. Even the car was visible from here, you noiced.

Once entering you find the place to be dusty, the old bedsheets in dire need of a change. Overall it’s unpleasant, but you’ve slept in worse places. Wario seems to be taking it the worst, constantly grumbling and grimacing. You all silently agree to make an impromptu cleaning of the place.

After all of you change into pajamas, sleep is quick to follow. There being four bunk-beds in the room, everyone picks a different one to slumber in.
Despite his evident displeasure, Wario is the first one to sleep, Mario following soon after. After some time you sleep as well, exhausted from the day’s activities.

Alright, I have a question for any of the anons here. Should I archive this thread and possibly make another some time in the future, or just let it die?

I have been feeling sick lately, so I probably won't be able to write more soon.

Damn, this quest is cursed. In my honest opinion, QM, the story as of the current moment, can best be described in its prologue, wherein we haven't seen the actual spooking occur.

So it could be a good place to archive this now and make a new thread at a later point, but at the same time, the long time between updates and that this seems to be more suited for a Halloween/October quest, I don't know if you'll get enough voters to make it worth your writing and time.

Ultimately, I think the decision is up to you whether you believe this is still enough of a fun idea to run in the future and that you'll get enough voters to run a fun quest for you and the readers.

I have a general idea for where the quest will go, especially with the initial dialogue from the original QM.

Noted. I'll plan to gradually make the quest less holiday themed, and there is a period of free time I'll have to write properly soon-ish (if I can get over the flu I have before then).
