Imagine making a quest that goes on a year long hiatus thrice in six threads.

First of all I’d like to thank these anons for talking shit:
>>5027611 >>5027838 >>5028945 >>5029711 >>5029981 >>5035779 >>5040213 >>5041090 >>5041553 >>5044646 >>5043224 >>5041700

And >>5429985 for wondering when I’ll be back.

You guys are 90% of the reason I’m here and writing. I’d also like to thank DragonQM and his Saiyan Conqueror Quest for inspiring me to start Vegeta Quest in the first place all the way back in 2019.

Anyway. A new thread for Vegeta Quest. We are returning from space!

I’ll be reposting the thread 4 summary for new anons and add to it for the stuff that happened in threads 4 and 5.

==Beginning of Summary of ALL of Vegeta Quest==
Vegeta, rightful holder of the title "Prince of all Saiyans" after the fall of his planet, has seen his life change in the past year. What looked like a simple mission to a low power level planet turned into a near-death situation and a complete disaster for Frieza's interests. After saving the life of his two servants, Raditz and Nappa, the trio set coordinates for Earth to hopefully meet Kakarot and heal their wounds with his help, exiling themselves from the Cold Empire.

They found that Kakarot had become 'humanized', unwilling to let go of his friends to join your ranks. Still, your weakened state did not leave you many options. In exchange for healing by the earthlings, you swore to not destroy or harm the population of the Earth and train with Kakarot for a full year.

After learning a variety of techniques from Kakarot and his reluctant comrades, Earth was invaded by the Crusher Corps, but through cunning and 'experimental' tactics, Vegeta was able to defeat Turles and destroy his ship, unaware that within were the seeds of the mighty Tree of Life. Turles then joined the Saiyans on Earth.

Kakarot, angered by Vegeta's actions during the battle with Turles, asked to duel Vegeta. After a long fight, Vegeta smashed Kakarot's limbs and rendered him unable to move, not before an intervention by a particularly angry Gohan. Tensions are high as the fighting was bloody, but it proved that Kakarot and Raditz were capable of great feats when spurred by their compassion.

Afterwards, in exchange for saving Earth from Turles, the Brief family designed a powerful new armor for the Saiyans and were constructing a spaceship for Vegeta and his servants in order to find out if any other Saiyan remnants still fight around the galaxy. While she completed the ship, Vegeta went out to meet Kakarot and reconcile as best he could with the humans of Earth.

=Beginning of Chapter 4 (From here on out it’s stuff that’s not from the thread 4 summary, for those who want a refresher and to get quickly into it)=

After the new Saiyan spaceship was completed, we gathered a crew out of our Saiyan warriors, Bulma as a ship technician and the Namekian Piccolo, who wished to help in exchange for a future visit to Namek. Bulma’s ‘galactic range saiyan radar’ was activated and after detecting the signatures of the Saiyans onboard and after a long wait, it detected five others in a far off world. Eager to include even more Saiyans into his growing princedom, Vegeta decided to send the ship on its fastest path towards the newfound signatures, obliterating a Frieza scout ship that was patrolling the area into space dust and training Bulma in the use of ki (in exchange for an eventual gravity room) along the way.

The ship arrived at an arid planet after six months of travel. Everyone except Bulma descended to the surface to help out four of the signatures, the lowest ones, from pursuing Frieza soldiers. There Vegeta met Kalabash, his non-combatant wife Gisa, their plucky daughter Rokka and their terrified son Oshe. Piccolo had laid a trap for the pursuing Frieza soldiers with his Hellzone Grenade, passing it off as a trap with conventional explosives for those who might eventually investigate the matter.

With Kalabash and his family safe, Piccolo and Raditz stayed with them until the Attack Pods Mk. II could carry them to the safety of Bulma’s ship, while the rest led by Vegeta flew off to help Calava, a female Saiyan with a power of 5.000. There they met the Rosha Force, an elite team of Frieza’s.

After a long and bloody battle, which included a Zenkai for Vegeta and Bulma almost dying in an attempt to save his life, Vegeta and company got the upper hand against Rosha and his team. They took Olond and Rosha, the two most powerful and honorable members of the Rosha Force, into custody aboard the Saiyan ship, and another prize was the Rosha Force attack ship, now untraceable thanks to Turles’ efforts, which would follow the main ship on autopilot during the three month trip home.

A few emotional moments aboard the ship later, Vegeta finally fell into a blissful sleep which, to him, seemed to last a whole year.

Our Vegeta is a princely one. Almost undefeated in battle, he lost vision in one eye, which is milky white, during the Rekar fiasco and wears an upgraded battle armor with a purple cape capable of blocking ki blasts that, along with his purple ki sword, provide him a regal look. His short stay on earth has revealed many things to him, first, that Saiyans and humans are genetically compatible, second, that the training methods there provide some powerful increases in power levels, third, that the genius of the Brief family could very well design a space fortress for the Prince.

Posting the broad rules for the quest:

>system is a simple d100 vs DC. Application of 'best of x rolls' varies per roll!
>votes will last for ~30 minutes. Since I expect a very slow start due to the nature of reboots, I can conclude a vote at anytime to keep the quest going during my writing hours.
>dialogue choices are only there as guidelines of what I think Vegeta could decide on a single issue. Write-ins during dialogue options are highly encouraged.
>choices during battle may have higher or lower risks, and often entail higher or lower rewards. Bear in mind that sometimes, higher risks does not mean it provides a similarly high reward. Try to see which move is best for a situation, or even provide a write-in with what you think is best!
>Zenkai only occurs during a real battle for your life! You can't abuse it by being brought to near death during training, as you technically know your life is not in danger. Though if there is a real chance of death during training (for example, a gravity chamber crushing your bones) you may be able to increase even if not as much as after a real fight!
>you are not expected to be goody two shoes, and you are not expected to be pure evil bloodthirsty Saiyans. Saiyans are unique in that their nature is to be brutal and to seek fighting, but they can mellow out over time as Bardock and Vegeta demonstrated in the OG timeline, though they can hardly reach levels similar to that of a human. Do what you think is best for character development!
>Don't feel obligated to stick to Earth! You have spacefaring vessels, there's a Galaxy to explore, and I can always come up with some interesting choices.
>There will be a bunch of waifu options! Right now Bulma is currently closest to romantic involvement.
>>
>>5436267
Other stuff I'd like to add:

>tl;dr: Don't be paranoid! I, as the QM, am not competing with the player but seeking to spur the story forward. Don't worry about specific details. For example wondering if some small mooks are alive after leaving a battlefield and if they could be trouble and I'm hiding it. Whether they are or not is up to your headcanon but if I don't mention it, then they're not gonna be a problem anymore.
>Please keep debating and making theories on DBZ power levels. I love that shit.
>While Saiyans and other powerful races inherently grow faster and have a stronger baseline, weaker races such as humans can overcome anything through training. I don't think leaving the Z-Fighters behind is fun, they should have path to powers and I was given many great examples in last year's thread. Expect training humans who seek strength to reach it! Some day, I'm sure.

Now let me shut the fuck up and let's get into this ->

A few days had passed aboard the Saiyan ship. The trip home would be three month long, so there was much down time even with all the training bouts. It was now the designated time for early morning. You put on your skintight suit and did a few stretches to get your body going, then put on your grey armor, Capsule Corps made, with a flowing purple cape clasped on its shoulders. You pressed the button for your door to open. In the shiphall you saw Raditz and Nappa, quipping about each other’s mistakes during the battle of Vertes, the arid planet. They bade you good morning and you replied in kind as you entered the canteen where you were surprised to see Bulma and Calava speaking to one another. When they saw you enter, their conversation ended abruptly.

You looked back to Nappa and Raditz. “Where is Kalabash and his family?” You asked.

“Kalabash and his daughter Rokka are training already.” Raditz replied. “His wife Gisa and the Oshe kid are in their room.”

And not training, you thought. The female was a non-combatant, and the male child was very likely going to become one too. You thought it impossible that a non-combatant Saiyan could actually survive the purge by the Cold Empire, but here they were.

You broke your fast with some nutrient sludge. You had no need for the fancy breakfast that humans seemed to enjoy so much. Bulma was a fan of ‘coffee’ and some sort of Earth sweets made of cereals. As you finished, Raditz and Nappa entered the canteen.

“Prince Vegeta.” Nappa called. “It seems the prisoners are waking up.”

Captain Rasha and his steadfast warrior Olond. Two Frieza Force warriors who hated their master and seemed to have a measure of ‘honor’ in them, only kept around by Frieza because they were strong enough to defeat most foes in the galaxy, yet not strong enough to challenge the best of his Elite Forces. Cowed into submission as you once were.

You cleaned your mouth with a tissue which you threw to the bin right after. “Let’s speak to our guests.”

Nappa nodded as did Raditz. You got up and the three of you headed to a detention cell, a room that Bulma had not really spoken of up until you actually had a pair of prisoners to secure. It was reinforced by a door made of the toughest alloys that could be found on Earth which were also very energy absorbent.

Still, as you opened the door, you could see your guests were on their knees and unwilling to attempt an escape. Turles was watching over them, his arms crossed. He nodded towards you as a greeting.
>>
>>5436271
You approached Olond and Rasha, the first was a small and round alien with a peculiar technique that allowed him to push air forward with the strength of a powerful blow, and the second was a tall and lanky alien that had created a technique that could unlocks raw power for a few seconds in exchange for a lot of spent energy. Olond had his eyes shut and he looked down to the ground. Rasha watched you warily.

“I would like to say something, Prince Vegeta.” Rasha petitioned. You nodded and he spoke. “Thank you for taking in Olond as well.” Rasha looked to Olond who nodded in agreement.

Turles smirked. “Don’t think this is some kind of merciful act. Your life goes on as long as it’s useful to Prince Vegeta, and no longer.”

Though you would’ve preferred if Turles had not spoken out of turn, it was exactly what you were going to say.

Rasha spoke. “As Olond said on planet Vertes, we owe you our lives. This is not a statement that he nor I would make lightly. We are in your service, all that we petition is for a little dignity.”

Dignity? You would’ve asked the same of Frieza yourself and knew he would not have given you a fair treatment.

Nappa scratches his chin. “These two were pretty tough, and they hate Frieza.”

Turles shrugs. “I’d say all those pretty words myself if I were trapped in a spaceship in hyperspeed with much more powerful captors.”

Raditz approaches you. “My Prince, we are few in number. Even if we were to gather all Saiyans in the galaxy I don’t think we’d be more than a few hundred.” He says. Both Turles and Nappa listen to him intently. “The more warriors we take under our wing, the closer we are to our purpose; defeating Frieza.”

Your three warriors ponder for a while and your prisoners, meanwhile, look down, awaiting judgment.

>”You are free while under my service. Mark this as the beginning of our resistance against Frieza.” These are able warriors who risked their lives for each other. They know of honor and would make for great soldiers for your cause.
>”I do not trust you yet. For now you will remain captive and we will test your prowess to see if you are worthy of serving.” Can you even trust anyone but the Saiyans? The Earthlings have no way of contacting Frieza so they can be somewhat trusted, but these two do know how to contact him.

”You are free while under my service. Mark this as the beginning of our resistance against Frieza.” Your words surprise your warriors and your captives both.

“Free?” Rasha says. “You would let us be free?”

Turles, shaking off his surprise, narrows down that freedom. “Under his service.” He says.

You continue. “As Turles says. You are free while under my service and you’ve said you owe your life to me.” You believe them, you wanted to say, but it felt odd to do so.

Olond is the first to reply. “I will serve you.”

Rasha nods. “And so will I.”

“Then your first task is to tell me of your worlds and your races.”

Olond is first to reply again. “I am from planet Gennel, it’s an arid place with higher than usual gravity. We are a humble race for the most part, agrarian communities under the leadership of martial monks. I am from the…” He ponders, looking for words. “The Way of the Wrathful Wind. Thankfully our world is poor in resources so Lord Fri- I mean, Frieza, asks only for a tithe in warriors.”

“How many?” You ask.

“The ten finest of each graduation. For most schools, that is half their graduates or more. Some of the larger ones have even bigger tithes, twenty, or even thirty.”

That seems rather stringent.

Raditz poses another question. “Wouldn’t that hamper the development of the martial schools?”

Olond nods somberly. “Absolutely. When your finest are destined to go and fight until they die for the Cold Empire, our schools cannot grow as well. We cannot develop new techniques, and they’re just barely keeping up with the teaching of the traditional ones.

You duly note it in your mind. Olond’s world could provide fierce warriors if given a better treatment than the one Frieza gives. You then look at Rasha.

The alien seems hurt as he remembers old memories. “I am from Tagala. A technologically advanced world. My kind are the results of decades long genetic experiments to unlock ki from a weaker race.”

Nappa smiles. “It seems their research was a success.”

“Not so.” Rasha says. “Out of a hundred, only one survived, sometimes the results only resulted in increases of around 500. I was the best one, an increase of over 10.000. It’s why Frieza took me away.”

“I see.” You reply. “We will take your chains away when your new rooms are ready. Bear in mind that you will watched. Closely.”

You turn around and head out of the prison cell. Raditz and Nappa follow you, Turles stays behind.

“What’s all this about, Prince Vegeta?” Nappa asks. “Since when do we trust Frieza aliens?”

“We need tools for the fight.” You reply. “As Raditz said… Can we guarantee how many Saiyans remain? Perhaps it is thousands and we can mount a proper fighting force, or perhaps these five were the only ones who remained alive.”

Nappa shakes his head. “I sure hope there’s more than these five. That would mean that out of ten remaining Saiyans, one is basically an earthling and two are non-combatants.”

After these words, Bulma leaves the canteen, she looks somewhat uncomfortable, though she redresses herself when she sees you. “Vegeta!” She exclaims.

Prince Vegeta would be more appropriate. She approaches you merrily. “Could I speak to you privately? It’s about my findings in planet Vertes.” From the look on her face, you think there’s something else too.

“Fine, come to my room.” You reply. Bulma smiles as a reply and heads off towards your room, crossing a corner. You can almost feel Nappa smirking behind you.

“Well?” He says as he crosses his arms.

“Well what?” You reply.

He shrugs. “You’re softening up to her, aren’t you?” That rhetorical question is followed up by a chuckle. “I remember the first time I found a mate. She was a non-combatant but she had some pluck to her. Fell in love at first sight.” He poses as if he were holding a large weapon. “She was holding the plasma launcher like this when she blew up the head vehicle of a Tuffle convoy.”

“Tch.” You utter, turning around and crossing your arms. “I’ve no time for your idiotic theories.” You leave your two warriors and go to your room to meet Bulma.

Nappa laughs softly as you leave.

Raditz looks at the large brute, curious. “You have kids?”

Nappa shakes his head. “Nope, she was not fertile.”

“And what happened to her?”

Nappa shrugs as if he were impassive, but there is a hint of gloomy emotion in his eyes as he recalls. “She was at Planet Vegeta when Frieza blew it up.” He looks down. “I’m pretty sure.”

Raditz pats his back, the two head to the bridge.

You press the button that opens the door to your room. You see Bulma sitting on the same countertop she sat on around a week ago.

She’s bending slightly backwards, using her hands to support herself on the counter. “Thanks for inviting me.” She says.

You shut the door behind you and unclasp your cape. You’ve been doing it every time you enter your room, it’s more comfortable to sit without it. “What did you need to tell me?”

She smiles. “Always so cut and dry, you Saiyans.” She says. “Well, a few things: First, the tech I recovered on the ground is going to be very useful to produce the armor I created in larger scale, in case you ever need that.” She takes a finger to her lip. “Then, uh… The ship, of course. I’ve been heading out in the early morning to it with my spacesuit. Just to take a look at its design and engine. I’m glad Turles was with us, I don’t think anyone else could’ve hacked it without tearing through its electric circuit. Anyhow, the engine is very interesting, way better than the one that was on Turles’ ship, that one was like a turtle compared to this one.”

During her explanation, you took the time to move to your cushioned chair and sit down. “That doesn’t surprise me. The attack ships of the Frieza Forces have to move very quickly from one place to another.”

“Yup. With just the tech I could cut down our travel time by around 20%... But!” She exclaims. “You have something other than the tech with you!” She waits for you to say what it is, but you don’t deign her with a response. She pouts. “Me! You have me!” She says. “I am puhretty sure that I can actually cut down our travel time from a whole year to just a month!”

You look at her astonished. “Truly?”

“Truly.” She replies. “I’m going to need my dad’s help but it’s looking very realistic.”

That is truly impressive. A travel from Earth to Vertes would take months even for the finest ship in the Cold Empire, well, except perhaps for Frieza’s personal ship. You sit and ponder the possibilities, the Galaxy has completely opened up to your endeavor.

You notice Bulma looking at you intently from her position. It almost makes you blush. Is Nappa right? Are you fond of an earthling female? Shouldn’t a Saiyan prince look for something more… appropriate? “What’s up?” She says. “You look… off.”

“I’m fine.” You reply. Whatever it was, it could wait, couldn’t it? There is still so much to be done against Frieza. “Was there something else?”

“Uh… Well…” She seems to doubt. “Calava asked me if I was your…” She shuts up and hops off the counter. “You know what? Nevermind. There’s work to be done if I want my theoretical engines to be ready for my dad to review. Gotta go!”

“Wait!” You say as she departs. She turns around.

You try to find the words. “I… uh…” The tension in the air could be cut with a tail slicer. “I’m expecting you in the afternoon for training, work hard.”

Bulma smiles awkwardly. “Ah, of course! Right! I’ll see if I can get some things done ‘til then. See ya!” The door closes behind her and you sigh as you swirl your chair around to watch the stars through your round window.

It’s not even five minutes after that that you hear your door ring. “What is it?” You ask, exasperated. The conversations with Bulma leave you spent in a different way than battle does. You much prefer the exhaustion of battle yourself.

You hear Kalabash’s voice. “Prince Vegeta. Calava and I would like to share some information with you.”

You turn around towards the door. “Come in then.”

The two Saiyan warriors enter, Kalabash and Calava approach your desk and you get up to greet them with a handshake each. “Well?” You say.

Kalabash is the first to speak. “Excuse me for not telling you of this earlier, prince, I thought the information was irrelevant, but Calava has made me see this otherwise.” She nods at the mention. “As you know, the destruction of planet Vegeta happened almost 25 years ago.”

You nod. “Of course.”

He continues. “A group of Saiyans formed soon after. We were a small, motley bunch. From super-elites to non-combatants that had been away during the destruction of the planet. Though we were mostly low-class warriors.”

Your eyes widen. “What?! And you didn’t tell me before?!”

Kalabash gulps at your reaction. “It didn’t last long, only about 5 years after planet Vegeta’s destruction.” He looks down to the ground, anger in his face. “Frieza hounded us down, our leaders were killed, our organization faltered and eventually each group went its own way to try and survive.”

You watch Kalabash tell his story. He seems clearly devastated as he tells you of the atrocities Frieza committed. His hunting parties were ruthless. For once, the Saiyans were the ones suffering from the persecution of a greater force.

Meanwhile, you lived a cozy life aboard Frieza’s mothership. The thought stings you to no end.

Calava chimes in. “My father, Taliso, was apparently the leader of one of these resistance cells, though he abandoned it after my mother was killed.” There’s almost a level of disgust in her tone. The Saiyan way is to fight until the end and take as many of them with you.

“To care for you.” Kalabash says, gritting his teeth. “After Seboia died, Taliso couldn’t bear the thought of leaving you alone in this galaxy.”

“He should’ve fought until the end.” She says. “Not to protect me, but for the sake of the Saiyan race.”

“He fought for you!” Kalabash exclaims, irritated. “There is no Saiyan race anymore!” He moves his arm to the side in anger.

She drives her index finger into his chestplate, facing him directly with a glare. “How dare you say that in front of our Prince!”

“Enough!” You yell. Their antics have finally irked you enough. “Do not bicker in my presence. I have no time for this.”

Kalabash sighs. “Sadly, my line of thought prevailed in the resistance.”

You press your eyes with your fingers in irritation. So much could’ve been different had you been a proper prince. “Why tell me this?”

Calava drives her palm to the desk. “Because Kalabash knows of old bases of the Resistance.”

He nods. “Abandoned for 20 years, some scavenged to hell and back, others taken over by pirate raiders and others thoroughly destroyed by Frieza’s forces. There’s probably little of use in them. But if there is even a little information left, we may know where to look for Saiyans with the earthling’s Saiyan radar, speeding our efforts greatly.”

When Kalabash says ‘earthling’, you see Calava look at you and you glare at her. “What is it?” You ask.
“Nothing.” Calava says, then she turns her head around.

“It is good to know we have somewhere to go after our return to Earth. Though we’ll have to stay there a while until our ship is upgraded by…” You look at Calava. “The earthling.”

The two of them nod. “I’m sorry I did not mention this earlier, Prince.” Kalabash says.

You wave the thought off, thinking of it a little more. “It’s no matter.” You sigh. “We have a 3 month trip until Earth. It wouldn’t have made a difference to hear the news now or later.”

Kalabash nods. “Well then, I’ll take my leave.” He turns around and leaves, though Calava stays behind, watching him leave with her arms crossed.

She looks at you. “So, you’ve got an earthling mate?” She says. “She’s insanely weak.”

Your glare intensifies as you furrow your brow. “Watch your tongue.”

She smiles playfully. “Come now, my prince.” She bends over on the desk. “Both you and I know that I am the only uncommitted Saiyan female you’ll see in a while.” Her tail swirls around playfully. “And I have a power level of 5.000.” She says, taking a finger to your chin. You sit there as stoic as you can. This flirting was the way of the Saiyan warriors, you knew, pure instinct. “And.” She continues. “I don’t mind sharing. You can have as large a harem as you wish.”

You move your head away from her finger. What is with the females of this ship today? Who’s going to come in next to flirt with you? Kalabash’s wife?

Though you cannot deny that there is something to this…Pure Saiyan instinct.

>”You dare? Get out of my sight. Now.” You will not have this insubordination from her.

Close vote! We're sealing this in.

Bear in mind that these votes aren't 100% first past the post. Of course the option with most votes win, in this case saying no, but the fact that it was such a close call means that Vegeta is super tempted by the idea but he steels himself (for now) and says no. If no won by a landslide, it would be a strong and stoic no with no temptation to do anything else. Each anon voting is like one of Vegeta's braincells telling him to do one thing or another.

You can feel pangs of temptation inside you. That swirling tail, that pretty face, peculiar olive skin and the raw strength of her body… A big part of you would simply say yes right now and enjoy an hour or two with Calava, but as you think of that, you feel also… Guilt? When you think of Bulma. It shouldn’t be so, it’s not as if she is your wife, or even your mate, for that matter, and yet.

“I admire your loyalty for the Saiyan way.” You say. “But you should listen to Kalabash, the Saiyan race has changed.”

She backs off, removing herself from your desk. You continue, “Pure physical strength will lead to the death of what little remains of our race. It worked back when there were so many thousands of us, but now only few remain.”

She looks down. You continue once more. “Besides, intrigue and plotting has always been present in our society. My father was plotted so that none could have a higher power level than me, that I know. The old ways have been gone for a longer time than you and I might imagine. Perhaps for as long as Sadala.”

“Then what are we fighting for?” Calava asks as she crosses her arms. “What’s the point of all this?”

“The point is to redefine what being a Saiyan is, what Saiyan pride means.” You say. “And I will make sure it is done in such a way that we will finally take our rightful place in the galaxy.”

She nods. “Fine, what a long-winded way of denying my rapprochement.” She shrugs. “You have lofty ambitions, my prince, but we are still 10 Saiyans stuck in a lonely ship in the big bad galaxy, you know?”

“That is why we need allies, and the earthlings are one of our allies. You have not seen them yet, they may not match our strength directly, but they have many ways around that. Including an infinite determination and their ability to be open-minded with things.”

You close your eyes. “Were it not for their mercy, Calava, I would be dead, as would you and Kalabash and his family, for my servants and I would not have been there to save you.”

That seems to have hit her deep somewhere as she ponders for a good while before responding. “You know… What I told Kalabash before about my father, I don’t mean it. It’s just… It hurts when everyone seems to have given up on our very own race.”

“Your father was brave, Calava, and he made the choices he saw fit at the time.” You take a hand to your forehead. “If anything, you should blame me for not being a good prince for so many years.”

You see her sniffle once and a single tear fall from her cheek, she wipes it off quickly. “I’m going to train.” She says, then she turns around and leaves.

“Aye, a true Saiyan.” You tell yourself. You take a moment to relax before you hear a comms alarm, it’s time for morning training with your warriors.

Time passes slowly aboard a spaceship, but it will come to pass. We will have a choice on our training sessions during these months and how to develop our powers. Perhaps there is something more you want to see before that is done and time is skipped?

>Another training session with Bulma, the accrued tension could lead to some ki unlocking!
>An interaction with Olond and Rasha, these two powerful beings are now technically part of your crew and you’d like to see how they behave while free.
>Let’s chill a bit with Raditz, Nappa and Turles. When you tell them what happened today, you’re sure they’ll have a good laugh.
>The Namekian has been awfully quiet during the return trip, as he has been during the other trip, let’s see if you can get some words out of him.
>You want to meet Kalabash’s family, his wife Gisa and his children the plucky 10 year old Rokka and the ‘cautious’ 8 year old Oshe.

You decide to visit the Namekian in his room, he has not left it since takeoff. You knock a few times and after a minute you hear his voice calling for you to enter. He is meditating in the middle of it, cross-legged and cross armed.

He looks at you disconcerted. “Well? Was there something you needed?”

“I simply wished to know what you’re doing here all day.” You say, looking around the room, nothing has changed at all in here since you left Earth. “I thought you were supposed to train.” You check his ki and notice that it’s… increased? How?

“I do not train like humans or you Saiyans. Meditation is more than good enough for me.”

“How is that possible?” You ask. “Don’t you need to keep your body fit?”

“I, well… My race, I guess, works differently. Our bodies are malleable and flexible, it’s easier for us to create muscle and we can even regrow limbs. Our struggle comes in managing ki through bodies that are so prone to change, that is why we meditate.”

“I see.”

The Namekian nods. “Well, was there anything else?”

“How has your strength increased so suddenly? You must be at a power level of…” The guesses for power levels come more and more naturally to you, even using the earthling’s energy sensing. “7.500? That’s an increase of 1.000.”

“True battle experience is what drives meditation. That increase was as a consequence of our battle at Vertes. I had some close calls down there with your long-haired friend. The other less powerful Saiyan and his child were crucial for our survival.”

You think of Kalabash and his firstborn, what was her name? Rokka? Yeah, that’s it. “7.500 is closer to our agreed goal of 9.000, not bad. Perhaps you will see your home planet soon.”

The Namekian closes his eyes and does not respond to that. “If you have nothing else to say, I’d like to resume my meditation.”

You nod and head out the door. The Namekian watches you leave with an eye open, then closes it again in sync with the door. Your conversation with him was relatively productive, though he seems unwilling to open up about much else, not that you need that type of information as of yet.

In your mind dwells the words of the Namekian. Kalabash and his daughter helped him and Raditz, it seems. You have not had a chance to converse with them since the trip started. Gisa and Oshe have been showing themselves a little more throughout the ship, having casual conversations with Bulma and Calava, while Rokka and Kalabash usually hung out with Nappa, Raditz or, sometimes, even Turles.

You see all four of them visiting the bridge. The children are learning what goes in a spaceship from Gisa, while Kalabash watches them with a warm smile on him. When he sees you, it wanes into a more serious expression. “Prince Vegeta.”
“Kalabash.” You say. “The Namekian has told me that you offered them support during the battle against Frieza’s forces.”

He looks back towards his family, arms crossed. “So it is. Even Rokka intervened, though I told her not to.”

“She has the stubbornness of a Saiyan.” You say, looking at the young girl, she has a long, unkempt black mane flowing, Oshe has a shorter, shaven hair and is much thinner and smaller than his sister. Some of it is due to age and some of it is clearly due to a different growth.

“Aye.” Kalabash bites his nails a little bit. “She is too plucky, you haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen her fight against foes much more powerful than her to defend us. She’s like a guard animal.”

The thought of that makes you smile slightly. You watch the girl approach her father, she watches you with a glare and her voice rings out. “Don’t think I trust you just because you’re a ‘prince’.” She says.

You chuckle while Kalabash slaps her on the back of the head. “Show some respect, girl.”

“That is well.” You say. “Trust your father, then.”

Her glare furrows further as she caresses her pained head. “Whatever.” She says, heading back to her mother’s side.

“So… This resistance.”

“I told you all I know, prince.” Kalabash says. “I was only a lower ranking member in it.” He scratches his chin in thought. “Taliso, that is Calava’s father-” You nod, indicating there is no need to specify that again. “Well, he would’ve known more.”

“How come you were to one to keep Calava after his death?”

“We kept in comms ever since the resistance fell, 20 years ago, we lived only a few days of space travel apart, just in case. Back then Calava was just 7 so she didn’t completely get what was going on. He trained her hard until… Well, a Frieza hunting party found them. I don’t have the specifics, but I got a desperate call from Taliso 10 years ago, asking me to come save his daughter while he distracted them.”

You move the corner of your mouth, irritated. How many similar stories have other Saiyans lived for so many years?

“By the time I arrived, Taliso was dead and Calava was heavily wounded. All the Frieza soldiers were dead. I picked her up and when she healed, we saw that her power level had gone through the roof. Up to 5.000 from her former level of 1.000. I had a whole 10 years to think on it and I realized the same things you did, our increases in strength when faced with near death experiences and why Frieza hounds us down.”

He looks at you directly. “You are the strongest here, prince Vegeta, and you’ve grown even stronger after Vertes. The way I see it, you’re our only hope to defeat Frieza.”

You watch Gisa struggle with her two children, trying to stop them from touching buttons, keyboards, switches and handles. The ship is thankfully in autopilot, so they’re not doing much. The stars flow by the window, forming lines as they mess around until they get bored. The three of them join you with Gisa at their head.

“I haven’t yet thanked you, my prince, for what you did for us in planet Vertes.” She says, bowing slightly. “I know we are of little use to you, considering your great strength.”

Rokka interrupts her mother. “Little use? I’ll train and my dad will too. We’ll fight and pay our debt.” She says. “Then we’re free.”

“You are free.” You say. “Train and fight, not as a way to pay a debt, but to grow. The more we all grow, the closer we are to victory and peace.”

You look to the flowing stars. “When we’re done, when we achieve victory. We’ll be able to live anywhere in the galaxy without fearing for our lives every day.”

She watches you with a mix of awe and wild determination. “Yeah!” She yells. “We’ll kill Frieza!” She says.

Kalabash pats her head and ruffles her hair around. “Our prince will.”

You nod. That was it. That was the way for you to pay for all those years of complacency, of servitude to the one who destroyed your race. You would kill him and all his kin, then your pride would be restored, and you’d finally be deserving of your father’s title.

You shake hands with Kalabash and Gisa. Oshe, who was hiding behind his mother, sees how Rokka takes his arm and lifts it up for you to shake it, then you shake hers. These were your warriors, your pride and part of your race, just as the more powerful Nappa, Raditz and turles are.

You’ll fight for all Saiyans, no matter what.

A day later, you have a chance meeting with Olond and Rasha in the training room. For the most part, they kept to themselves on the ship. It’s somewhat awkward to interact with people you were trying to kill a week or two ago. You have seen them talk of meditation and training with the Namekian though, and discuss the specifics of the ship with Bulma, who kept most of the details hidden as she did not trust them much.

They watch you for a few seconds. “Lord Vegeta.” Rasha says, using the term lord as you technically were the prince of Saiyans and he was no Saiyan. “Thank you again for your mercy.”

“Don’t mention it.” You say, unclasping your cloak and hanging it by the door. “You could start repaying it with a sparring bout.”

Rasha nods and takes a fighting stance. As soon as your cloak hangs, you dash towards him in a flash and smash his blocking arm. You throw a flurry of fists forward and he stops each of them. As you stop, he takes a few steps back and resumes his stance. “A fine series of punches, though you are hanging back, lord Vegeta.”

You dust off your gloves. “This is only a sparring match. Now tell me of your technique.”

Rasha now flies forward, launching a series of punches towards your face which you easily block, he then tries to use your openings to deliver swift kicks to your gut, but you block those with your own legs and dodge. “It’s a technique that drives the amount of energy in your body to its limit. Each hit you deliver will force through much more energy, but waste even more of it.”

“A last ditch sort of maneuver.” You say, throwing a few energy beams that he deflects.

“Yes. I can teach it to you if you wish. Olond also knows it, but he prefers his wind style.”

“Show it off to me again.”

Rasha takes his stance, he concentrates for a few seconds as energy swirls around him with a pale blue aura, the veins on his body extrude and he yells. “Unlock!” He then dashes forward at an extreme speed. He drives his fist towards your face, which you can only deflect, as blocking it may break your arm, he then drives his knee up but you do not see it coming, he slams it into your gut, purging the air from your lungs. You reassess the situation, seeing that this is now as serious as in Vertes. You fly your elbow into his knee, ramming his thigh instead, then let your fist flow back up towards his own gut, a blow that he blocks, though he flies upwards from the strength of it, ramming his body on the ceiling of the training room. The blow was hard enough to make a dent on the protective alloys.

“Enough.” You say. You didn’t want to have to hear Bulma’s rant on why the training room should be kept orderly and how training shouldn’t be life or death.

“I agree.” Rasha says, panting from the exertion. “Pardon my quickened breath but my body is still recovering from our battle at Vertes. We do not heal as rapidly as Saiyans do.” He takes some sweat off his brow. “As you can see, mastering Unlock can provide you a swift boost of strength, instead of having to charge your energy and leave yourself open for enemy attack. As you can also see, this method wastes a lot of energy.”

The way you’ve seen it, Rasha’s power level increased from 15.000 to around 25.000 in one fell swoop. That’s how he was able to get the upper hand in the battle. An excellent trick to have your opponent underestimate you. Perhaps it could even be combined with the earthling’s ki manipulation. You could pass for a mere power level of 10.000, somewhere around what you had before the disaster at Rekar, then swiftly jump to almost 40.000 with Rasha’s technique.

Olond watches the two of you. “Saiyans have a peculiar form.” He says. “There doesn’t seem to be any rule or method to your fighting styles.”

“We are driven purely by instinct.” You reply. “Each Saiyan fights as he finds most fitting for his or herself.”

“Quite peculiar.” He says, pondering. “But perhaps Saiyans would do well to train in some sort of style, to have an alternative to their usual style. As Rasha offered his technique, I offer you the way of the Wind, if you wish to learn it. Just like Rasha’s skill, it can be used to great effect against unexpecting foes.”

Saiyans have never really ‘learned’ a style, but perhaps there is wisdom in the alien’s words. “Good. Allow me to gauge both of your strengths.” You say, taking a fighting stance, Rasha and Olond both prepare themselves, and you engage one another for the next few hours, learning much from each other.

ALRIGHT, interludes done. Now it's time for our training:

Now it’s time to decide how we’ll train during the next few months and we’ll be able to choose one (1) technique to learn. Our training gives PL increases because we gathered experience in a real battle (Vertes) and are now applying it consciously while training with each other.

First, how we’ll train:
>Focus on yourself. (Vegeta +1000 PL)
>Focus on Bulma. (Vegeta +250 PL, Bulma +100 PL)
>Focus on someone else (Who?) (Vegeta +250 PL, Trainee +500 PL)

Here are our comrades’ new Power levels (Not taking into account Vegeta’s possible trainee):
Nappa: 10.086
Raditz: 8.617
Piccolo: 7.500
Turles: ~17.500 (Reducing back to his base of 3.500)
Calava: 5.500
Kalabash: 1.250 (Lower training results due to lower power level)
Rokka: 1.250 (Lower training results due to lower power level)
Bulma: 50

Rasha: 15.500
Olrond: 8.500

Then the new technique we’ll learn:
>Rasha’s Unlock. A wasteful technique that nonetheless empowers you instantly for a few seconds.
>Olond’s Way of the Wind. A long-range and slow martial style that fires bouts of wind that are as strong as the user’s punches.
>Nappa’s Break Cannon (Mouth Beam). A powerful beam of energy fires from your mouth, taking your foe by surprise.
>Turles’ Crusher Ball. A gigantic ball of energy that can be thrown and forgotten as a sort of torpedo.
>Piccolo’s Hellzone Grenade. A trap of energy balls that rain down on the enemy after getting triggered.
>>
>>5438146
>>Focus on someone else (Who?) (Vegeta +250 PL, Piccolo +500 PL)
We still have our deal to fulfill.

>Piccolo’s Hellzone Grenade. A trap of energy balls that rain down on the enemy after getting triggered.
>>
>>5438146
>Focus on Bulma. (Vegeta +250 PL, Bulma +100 PL)
Since Piccolo said he trains better by real fights and meditation, I think it's better to focus on the other promise we made
>Olond’s Way of the Wind. A long-range and slow martial style that fires bouts of wind that are as strong as the user’s punches.
I like the idea of ranged melee

In melee combat, range is an excellent advantage to have.

The next few weeks and months quickly turn to routine. You focus on training the Namekian, as he must, as agreed upon before leaving Earth, eventually reach a power level of 9.000. The days turn into breakfasts, training with the Namekian, eating, teaching Bulma, then an all-out brawl with whoever was willing, then dinner, a time to relax during the evening which you use to learn the art of Olond’s Way of the Wind and finally, sleep. Bulma ensures that the autopilot remains in optimal course, while Turles is assigned to general maintenance. Kalabash and Gisa are busy ensuring their children don’t mess around too much, while Calava, Raditz and Nappa focus on their training completely, Rasha and Olond prefer to stick together though they open up more and more.

You wake up one day and hear a comms call coming from bridge with Bulma’s ID. Her face shows up in a holo. “Alright everyone! We’re hours away from Earth. Finally home!” She yells happily.

You get up from your chair and head to bridge, as do most others including the Namekian. You see the round blue planet from the window of the Bridge.

Kalabash and Calava are trying to use their recently learned ki sense. “I don’t detect anything.” Calava says. Kalabash nods and speaks “Has something happened to the local population?”

“What? Of course not! There’s still billions of readings here.” Bulma says.

“Huh.” Says Kalabash. “They’re uh…”

“Weak.” Calava says with a devious smile.

“Brain’s better than brawns sometimes.” Bulma replies, ticked off.

Raditz, Nappa and Turles approach you. “Have you noticed?” Turles says, cross-armed and looking sideways towards the Earth. “Their readings aren’t there.”

“Aye, Kakarot and his merry group aren’t here.” Nappa says.

Raditz looks at you. “They did say they were going to train at an old friend’s.”

“Off Earth?” Turles says. “I thought they had no spaceflight capability before we came. Hell, I’m pretty sure our spaceship is Earth’s first.”

You furrow your brows and you grimace, irritated. You approach Bulma. “Where are Kakarot and the rest of the powerful humans?”

She shrugs. “I have no idea.”

You see that the Namekian is watching the Earth, some sweat betrays him, showing his nervousness.

Turles approaches you. “So, how about it? Take over the planet while Kakarot and the crew are gone?” He says, his statement hanging between sarcasm and a real proposition.

Raditz glares at Turles. “What are you saying?”

The Namekian seems to have heard it and approaches you. “This was not the deal we made.”

Bulma also eyes Turles.

You raise your hand. “Enough. We had a deal with Kakarot and his crew, and we keep it.” You say. Turles lifts his hands, feigning innocence. “Come on now, can’t I make a joke?”

You fly down towards Earth with your pods, resuming your earthly life. A capsule home is brought for Kalabash’s family, another for Calava, another for Rasha and Olond, who have no qualms living together. Bulma brings supplies and clothes for you all to wear. The crew looks quite silly in all manners of bright human clothing.

And still, no sign of Kakarot. You spoke to Bulma at her Capsule corps home, to Raditz and to the Namekian who meditated in the arid wastelands, to see if they knew anything about their disappearance, and they all claim they know nothing. It’s quite frustrating.

Whatever Kakarot is doing, he is surely not going to leave the Earth alone for too long, more so knowing your crew would be back after a year out into the stars. So for the first few days, you decide to gather a crew to plan out your future venture. Bulma will come as a consultant to know the ship’s limits, while the Namekian will also be present to see if he wishes to participate in the next trip or not.

You gather up in the largest capsule home available, yours. It seems Bulma brought her mother, who insisted that she wanted to meet the ‘Saiyan newcomers to Earth’ and give them a proper warm welcome. She serves all manners of appetizers and drinks, which she seemingly prepared in your home’s kitchen in less than ten minutes.

Nappa, Raditz, Turles, Calava, Kalabash (Gisa is taking care of the kids outside along with Bulma’s mother), Bulma, the Namekian and even Rasha and Olond are here to plan your next venture.

Kalabash brings to the table a holographic star map where various star systems are highlighted. “I didn’t think I’d ever use this again, I kept it as more of a memento.” He says. His finger slides into the holo and ‘clicks’ one of the coordinates. It shows the information of a space station. You can see that it had a personnel count in the hundreds last it was updated, twenty years ago.

“This was our main base, we called it Sadala Station.” Kalabash says.

“Not Vegeta station?” Bulma asks somewhat sarcastically, she throws you a complicit wink to which you reply with a ‘tch’.

Kalabash shakes his head, not realizing the subtleties of Earth-speak. “No, most of us had poor opinions of the Vegeta line.” He looks at you and bows. “Excuse me for my transgression, my prince, this was a quarter of a century ago.”

You wave it off. “No matter. Speak to me of the station.”

“It was mostly living quarters with the usual common rooms, then there was the bridge and, most importantly, the command room, that’s where they kept information on the location of other Saiyan survivors and strongholds.” He presses one of the delineated buttons with the label ‘command room’ on it. “Some of you might think that most Saiyans would probably have left their last known locations as soon as the station fell, but the truth is that most of us did not even have a method of transportation. We depended on Sadala Station for such things and they were overwhelmed by demand.” He continues. “Some likely remain in these locations.”

Raditz and Nappa look somber as they receive the information, likely sharing a degree of guilt for their inaction throughout the years. Turles seems rather serious as well.

Calava intervenes. “So, Sadala Station would provide us with 20 year old information on the location of other Saiyans. I don’t think I’m the only one seeing that this might not be worth a trip.” She looks around and sees that Turles and Nappa show signs of approval.

Raditz looks at Calava. “Even if we only find one Saiyan alive thanks to this information, the trip would be worth it.” To his statement, Bulma agrees and to your surprise, so do Rasha and Olond.

Kalabash nods. “It’s true the information is terribly outdated. But there is something more.” He zooms in to the floor of the command room. “Here. I think this is the place Taliso told me of.” He says, Calava watches it intently. “Under this flooring there is a communicator linked to the scouters of all Saiyans who visited or registered with the Resistance.” He then looks at you. “Wherever they are in the galaxy, they would hear your voice and message, Prince Vegeta.”

A silence reigns in the room for a few seconds. No Saiyan leaves his scouter behind, they need it to gauge threats and many keep models that are decades old if it’s all they have. This could actually work.

Turles throws himself back onto his chair and sighs. “And what if one of these Saiyans ditches us to the Frieza force? We’d lose the element of surprise against the bastard.”

When Rasha hears that, he takes a swift decision to speak as well. “Considering my disappearance in planet Vertes, a mission that we should’ve achieved quite easily, I’m sure that Zarbon is already suspecting something, as might be Frieza.”

Olond nods. “It would merely confirm a suspected truth.”

Nappa shakes his head and lifts an index finger to drive his point. “Frieza might even consider sending the Ginyu force after us if he sees that we’re making such a bold move.”

The Namekian then speaks for the first time, an oddity, as he seemed somewhat out of the debate. “And that ‘Ginyu Force’ would likely come to Earth as they hound you down.”

“Not necessarily.” Raditz replies. “If we’re hounded, we could flee to another planet and ensure that Earth remains peaceful.” You see Bulma go wide-eyed, a hint of sadness in her expression as she looks at you. You’re stricken by the grief in her face for a moment but quickly gather your thoughts.

“What about fighting the Ginyu Force?” She says, trying to find a solution.

Most of the people here gathered look at her. “Not a chance.” Turles says. “That’d be suicide, even if we piled all our gathered strength.”

“Yeah.” Nappa continues. “We could maybe, and that’s a big maybe, defeat Burter, Jeice and Guldo on their own, but Recoome and Ginyu could each destroy all of us combined in a few minutes.”

Bulma seems crestfallen as she hears this new information.
>>
>>5438949
Kalabash speaks again. “But if we don’t send that transmission and only go to Sadala Station to gather up information on the Saiyans, our actions would go under the radar of the Cold Empire. We’d have to make sure to kill or capture all witnesses of our presence there though.” That last statement seems to make Bulma uncomfortable, the rest of the meeting staying stoic. “We could simply take the communicator and use it at a later date.”

You take a hand to your chin, deep in thought. You look to Bulma. “How long would it take us to upgrade our ship and head to Sadala Station?”

Bulma nods. “It would take me and my dad around three months to upgrade the ship. Then the trip to that station, if the coordinates given to me are right, would be around a month to reach it then a month to return.”

You see how this surprises Kalabash. “Only a month?” He says. “The station is far away. Are you sure you have the right coordinates?”

Bulma glares at him for doubting her. She stands up and checks the holo closely, almost putting her face inside it. “Yeah, those are it.” She says, her pride clearly hurt. “A month, I confirm.”

It’s time to make your decision on this Sadala Station situation. Having more information on the last location of all Saiyans seems rather useful, Bulma’s radar would help when tracking them down… The communicator will also provide an efficient way of communicating to all of them, a bombastic declaration for the return of the Saiyan race, to be used now or later… But perhaps it would be best to let sleeping dogs lie and continue to seek Saiyans near your Earth-base instead, slower as that may be.

You will:

Consolidate our forces. Train. Gear up. Rokka in particular lacks discipline which could prove catastrophic on a fragile spaceship or while avoiding detection. Maybe a pair of space ships would be better than one for eventual trips, especially if we end up taking on passengers.

We will go to the Sadala Station once we are a force to be reckoned with, for now, we are nothing more than survivors. The rebels had poor opinion of the Vegeta line, we will need to be able to back up our claims to be able to have their respect.

With saiyans making a comeback, Freeza will be following up on any leads he has. He’ll certainly be going to Sadala Station, so it’s vital that we get there first and stop anything falling into the wrong hands. Could you imagine if he got his hands on the communicator and used it to lure all the remaining saiyans into a trap?

Silence reigns in the room for a fair few minutes as you think of the matter deeply. Half of you wants to stay on Earth, train, gather your strength, perhaps go find other Saiyans that could be closer to your main base of operations, but the prize that Sadala offers is a great one and you can see that your warriors have a strong desire to further the Saiyan cause through this operation.

Perhaps it is too brash, maybe you should err on the side of caution instead, but there’s a fire in you that burns ever since the explosion at Rekar, a grim reminder that you had been complacent for too long. And complacent you shall be no longer.

“We will go to Sadala Station and retrieve the last known locations of the Saiyans who joined the Resistance.” You get up and look at each person here present who nod at your statement with determination. Many Saiyans, a Namekian and a Human, who would’ve told you a year before that this is where you would be? “We will hammer out the details of the expedition later on.” You say. “For now you are all dismissed.”

Each in the group gathers their things and leaves, some of them talking about preparations, others about today’s training, the Namekian simply flew off when he stepped out of the door. The ones who remain are Raditz, Nappa and Bulma. The Saiyans look at the earthling, wondering why she’s still here. She gets up and approaches you with a broad smile.

“You still haven’t taught me how to fly.”

What is she talking about now?

“Remember our deal?” She says. “Gravity room if I can fly.”

Ugh.

You can see Nappa sitting on his chair, arms crossed with a devious smile drawn on his face. Bulma likely cannot, since he’s behind her.

“Do you think your training was intensive enough to learn how to fly? You have to prepare the ship for our expedition, I will accept no delays.”

“A deal’s a deal.” She says. “My dad can take care of the reforms of the ship with what I’ve drawn up during our return trip, meanwhile, I can spend all morning working on my gravity room and all afternoon training if you swear that by the end of these 3 months, you’ve taught me how to fly.”

You can recognize that she’s playing around with you, as she’s done many times when she’s together with you, she will have the gravity room ready and installed in the ship, if only as a vanity project. But perhaps it could be a good idea to be thorough and actually teach her during these three months. What is better than a non-flying scientist? A flying scientist, of course. Still, it would likely take up too much of your training time.

“A deal’s a deal. It’ll be my pleasure to teach you.” You say confidently. Bulma reddens, as it seems to be the first time that doing something with her is a ‘pleasure’ for you. Nappa and Raditz are clearly surprised by the choice of words.

“Yes!” She throws an arm up in the air. “Oh you’ll see when Goku and the rest come back, they’ll be so surprised when they see me flying around!”

“Flying around? That’ll be a harder task.” You say. “I’m hoping to at least get you off the ground and to go up.”

She pouts. “Well if I can’t fly laps around Goku and the rest, no time chamber!”

You glare at her and she sticks her tongue out. “It’s a joke.” She says. “Anyhow, gotta make sure my dad and I are on the same page for the development of the ship.” She opens the door and closes it behind her, a barely audible cheer reaching your ears.

“A pleasure, huh?” Nappa says with a sardonic tone. “If I were you, I’d take her as a mate or wife or whatever you want with her already. You never know when you’ll see her again.”

You furrow your brow as you watch the door, half of you hoping to see her open it again with that gleeful smile. “I have priorities other than females, Nappa.” You reply then take a seat to enjoy some of this earthling ‘coffee’, it’s like energy pills from the Frieza force, but with an actual taste.

“Yeah yeah. So did I.” He says. Raditz looks at the two of you. “Well, I’ll go off to see if I can find out anything about my brother.” The long-haired Saiyan then leaves right out of the door and flies off.

“Wanna train?” Nappa says as you finish your coffee.

“Yeah.” You leave the cup on the table and get up, heading out with your warrior and second in command.

Bulma’s kick slams your lifted forearm with little impact, but you felt a strong and controlled ki surge and she returns swiftly to her fighting position. She exhales deeply and brings air back to her lungs, then she throws another, once more controlled and fierce, kick to your forearm. It’s interesting how energy works, even though you would compare her composure to that of a proper warrior, her impacts simply do nothing to you. There is much still to do.

“Good.” You say, blocking a few more of these kicks. You almost have to look at them to prepare your forearm, almost. “These are disciplined moves. Your energy does not dissipate wildly as you connect and you are maintaining your form.”

She returns to a battle position, and throws a fist forward, which you stop with your hand, she throws another which you stop with another hand then throw her back a few meters which she swiftly closes in to throw a flurry of fists towards you. Slow, predictable blows, but true blows. “How goes the gravity room?”

“Pretty well.” She says, coordinating her breathing with her next few blows, her blue ponytail flowing to the sides as she does so. “You’ll like it.” She says.

You nod, you see her arm stretch for another blow, which you stop, but you’re surprised to see her take hold of your arm and put her back against your chest, she starts lifting you by the held arm. She actually does. You take hold of yourself and swiftly spur some energy from within to throw her off with a gust of wind, you’re in a horizontal position in the air, keeping yourself from hitting the ground. You take a hand to your head and lay there as if you were laying on a sofa.

“What was that about?” You say.

Bulma caresses her butt, which slammed itself pretty hard on the ground. “Just wanted to see if I could take you by surprise.”

She furrows her brows and looks at you with a smile. It’s intense. You feel something in that stare. You sit on the air, crossing your arms and legs and chuckle heartily. “Hmph.” You utter. “I see it in you now.”

She removes some dust from her face. “See what?”

“The spirit of a warrior.” You reply. “You must’ve seen it in your earthling friends’ faces sometimes. That one stare of pure dedication, of enjoyment of the fight and battle.”
She shrugs. “I don’t get it.”

“Perhaps you will see it in my own face, if we ever fight as –almost- equals.” You reply with sarcasm.

“You little…” She runs forward and jumps to kick you, you block it with a leg and throw your palm forward, it stops quite a ways away from her face.

But a gust of wind rises from your palm and Bulma feels it slap against her face, throwing her once more to the ground. You know you didn’t do much harm, the energy merely pushed her back, still, you almost feel like approaching her to check.

“What was that?” She says, scrubbing her hair.

“The round alien taught me this technique aboard the ship.” You throw a fist upwards and a gust of wind kicks off, throwing dust and leaves around in a whirl. “The Way of the Wind, I think it had a more complex name, doesn’t matter though.”

“Olond, you mean?” She replies.

“Yes. You’re acquainted?”

“Not really, but we did live on the same ship for three months. He’s quiet like Piccolo, but more respectful.” She says as she gets off the ground.

“Yes, he and the Namekian have similarities.” You say as you land on the ground. “Now, for your test.”

She steels herself, standing up straight.

“You must let your energy flow outside of your body this time, but you must still maintain a control over it.” You lift off the ground, your feet hanging limp after moving half a meter up. “Notice the energy flowing under my feet, it only moves swiftly when I move, but otherwise it merely maintains me up in the air, keeping a stillness.”

“Like an engine that accelerates and stops?” She says.

You tilt your head in thought. “Somewhat, yes.”

She concentrates for a minute. You see some energy swirling under her. “Now move it up, but not into your body.” You say, crossing your arm.

It takes her another whole minute, sweat trickling through her face, her mouth twitching around from the intensity of her effort. You sigh, she failed again.

Then her feet lift off the ground.

You look at it wide-eyed. It only lasts five seconds, Bulma is so concentrated on her energy that she does not even realize it, the energy suddenly dissipates and you notice that something is off with her. You fly forward in an instant to take hold of her so she does not slam onto the ground.

She’s breathing heavily, an uncoordinated breathing, her chest rises and falls as it lays on your arms. She looks at you, wet with sweat and with a tired expression. “I fucked it up again?” She says, barely able to string together the words.

You look at her, not knowing what you should feel exactly right now. “No.” You say. “You flew.”

It’s been around 3 months since your return to Earth. You get off your bed, bid good morning to Nappa and Raditz, have some more of that earthling coffee and get out of your house to sit on your porch’s chair for a little bit.

The ‘Saiyan neighborhood’ wakes up along with you. There’s Calava, who waves at you for an instant as she stretches and flies off. Kalabash is kissing Gisa goodbye and his kid Oshe goodbye, then he flies off along with Rokka. The Saiyan newcomers have been training together for a good while too.

Raditz comes out of the house, scratching his long mane with his sole arm. “Good morning, my prince.” He says. “I’ll be off to train with Piccolo.”

Nappa slaps him on the back of the head. “You mean the Namekian, right?”

Raditz glares at him. “Sod off.” He flies off, the air booming as he breaks the sound barrier.

You chuckle, as does Nappa, who sits on a chair of his own, there is a comical disparity between the seated and his seat.

“We’ll be off soon.” Nappa says.

“Yes.” You reply.

A gust of wind passes by the hills where you settled on Earth. It’s a pleasant one, you breathe in the fresh air that contrasts so perfectly with the light heat emanating from this world’s sun. It’s rather idyllic.

You see a silhouette forming in the distance. It’s Bulma, flying towards your home. It’s still a small speed, but as you come into view, she starts twirling around to show off her newfound ability to control herself in the air. Simply propelling yourself up and forward is one thing, but being able to do tricks in the air is another. Still, she has a piece of armor similar to yours on, just in case she lands a bit too abruptly.

“She hasn’t stopped since she got it, hasn’t she?” Nappa asks.

“I don’t know if she’s even touched the ground in the past two months.” You reply.

She landed in front of both of you as if she were an acrobat finishing a séance in front of a crowd. You both sat there and watched her.

“You’ve progressed.” You say.

“Progressed?!” She yells. She puts a prideful hand to her chest. “I’m a pure prodigy!”

You raise an eyebrow. “Prodigy? Have you broken the sound barrier yet?”

You notice her raising an eyebrow of her own, she crosses her arms and does not seem to puff her chest so much anymore. “The sound barrier?” She says. “Well, if I did that I’d just tear my eardrums, so…”

“Your human friends were able to do it without destroying their hearing.”

A twitch in your milky eye tells you that something is coming from your right. It’s a weak power level flying towards you, only slightly stronger than Bulma’s. From the speed and instability of the energy, you can tell that its owner is mad and about to attack you. You cross your arms and sigh. Who’s the idiot weakling that would attack you-?

In an instant, Bulma takes position at your right, she blocks a flying kick from a woman and the strength of the blow sends her flying back, almost touching you. The woman who just attacked you takes an eastern fighting stance and glares at Bulma.

“Where’s my son?” The woman says. You deign to look at that human and see… Kakarot’s wife?

“What?” You say. You and Nappa have not even moved from your seats, Nappa seems to be half-dozed off.

“Don’t play me for a fool.” The earthling says with venom in her tone.

“Chi-chi. What’s up with you?” Bulma exclaims. “Vegeta didn’t do anything!”

“You’re on the same side as the aliens who would’ve conquered our planet had they not been almost dead on arrival?” This so-called Chi-chi says. “I thought better of you, Bulma.”

“Sides?” Bulma says. “What are you talking about? We are all on the same side!”

“That spiky-haired bastard threw my son at a spaceship! How are they on our side?”

“He was turned into an Oozaru.” You reply. “It could not have killed him.”

That seems to tick something off in the woman, who flies forward to try and ram her fist into your face, but Bulma stops her, taking hold of her arm, she then twirls on her ankle and sends Chi-chi back to where she started.

“Where did you learn that? Your ‘Saiyan’ boyfriend teach you?” The angry human says.

You see that Nappa was faking his being asleep as he smirks, he tries to hide it by looking left.

Bulma looks at Chi-chi straight in the eyes. “Yes, and he doesn’t know where Gohan is.”

Did she say yes to the boyfriend part too? You smile. Funny.

The woman seems to slowly drop her fighting stance. “I swear that if you are lying to me about this, I’ll have your head.”

“Have my head?” Bulma says more relaxed, putting her arms to her waist, incredulous. “Chi-chi, you know we’re almost in the 8th century, right? You should go to the city more often.”

Then suddenly, high power levels pop into the Earth. You get up at that very instant as does Nappa. For a moment you are tense, for you do not recognize this sudden power, but…

It’s Kakarot.

You furrow your brows and clench your fists as you look to the skies. Bulma and Chi-chi have noticed it too. After a few minutes, six more silhouettes are in the Saiyan neighborhood.

You see Kakarot at the center of the group, he looks at you dead in the (only) eye as he slows down to a stop, and he has a thirst for battle that you had not seen in very long. How amusing. You smirk.

“It’s been a while, Kakarot.”

“Right back at ‘cha.” He says. Along with him are his son, Gohan, now bearing a different, determined expression, then the small bald one, the one with the long hair and a scar, the one with the third eye, and the one that looks more like a doll than a human being. Are those last two even human?

Chi-chi jumps up to see her child, she takes hold of Gohan’s cheek. “Oh, my Gohan!” She says. “I thought you were dead for sure. I looked for you all around the globe! Do you know how many bad people I had to fight to find out if something happened to you?” She hugs him deeply.

“I’m fine mom.” Gohan says.

The short bald one looks at Kakarot. “W-wait… You didn’t tell Chi-chi?!”

Kakarot scratches his head. “Hey Gohan, c’mon, you told me that you told her we were leaving.”

“I… uh…” Gohan replies.

Chi-chi flies right towards Kakarot’s face and yells at him angrily. “How is it HIS responsibility to tell me that you’re taking him away to heavens-know-where to do heavens-knows-what!” She puts a finger to his chest. “You are the adult here you good-for-nothing.”

Kakarot brings his palms to calm her down. “Hey, c’mon Chi-chi. It was only a year! Plus, look how strong he is now!”

It is true, the child is almost as strong as Calava.

“Oh, of course! One day you go: ‘Hey love, we’re to find the Dra-‘” She stops herself, stares at you, then back at Kakarot to continue. “Then the next you and Gohan are gone for a WHOLE year! Did he even study?!”

“We took books with us!” Kakarot replies.

You take a look at the human fighters, the strongest human is clearly the three eyed one, almost 3.000, you’d wager, while his diminute companion is barely over 1.500. Still a large increase from where they were a year ago.

After a few minutes arguing, the earthling seems to calm down and join the humans in their line in front of you. Kakarot speaks to you once more.

“Vegeta, I see you and your friends have grown stronger too.”

You smile. “So we have.”

He tilts his head to look behind him. “And not only that…”

Calava, Kalabash and Rokka appear behind the humans, not long after, so do Olond and Rasha.

Kakarot then looks back at you. “… you’ve got new friends too.”

“The ones with tails are Saiyans.” You say. “The others are former members of the Frieza Force.”

“That’s pretty interesting.” Kakarot turns around and greets them. “Hey guys, I’m Goku, the Saiyan from Earth!”

Rokka looks at him amazed. “Daddy!” She says, pulling on Kalabash’s suit. “He’s almost as strong as prince Vegeta!”

So he is, he’s surpassed Rasha’s power level, that’s for sure. You can see the amazement in your former enemy’s face as he looks at Kakarot.

“And how come you’ve grown so powerful?” You say. “Have you had your own deadly fight while we were away?”

“You could say that.” Kakarot says. “I’ve been itching for a round two with you, Vegeta.”

It’s tempting, to say the least. Plus, you could gauge Kakarot’s strength before departing for Sadala Station.

Bulma looks at the two of you. “Seriously? One year without seeing each other and you’re gonna fight? Of all things?”

>”I’m sure many of us are itching for a battle. Let those who are willing fight duels with one another. See which side is strongest.” You’ve been craving another battle since leaving Vertes, your followers will be able to prove themselves too.
>”Alright Kakarot, one on one, you and I.” The rest will likely not fight if not spurred on by you, not that there’s a need for them to do so anyhow.
>”I’m afraid you’ll have to wait, Kakarot, I am about to depart once more and I’d rather stay fresh.”

The Namekian, Raditz and Turles fly in as you’re about to speak, the former is brought up to speed by the small bald one, while the latter two are informed by Nappa.

”I’m sure many of us are itching for a battle. Let those who are willing fight duels with one another. See which side is strongest.” You say.

Kakarot smiles and does a few stretches in anticipation. “Like a tournament?” He says.

“We don’t have time for that.” You reply. “A league would fit better.”

Everyone looks at everyone else on the other side. You notice that the human with the scar steps up first towards… Calava?

“I’ll fight you.” He says as he points towards the Saiyan.

She laughs delightfully. “Oh, you will rue the day you’ve uttered those words, weakling.” She says.

Kakarot looks at the human. “Are you sure about this, Yamcha?”

The one called Yamcha nods. “Yeah.”

The three-eyed one looks at Nappa. “I will be your opponent.” He says.

Nappa laughs heartily. “Hahaha! You?!” He lowers his laugh down to a chuckle. “I’m not the type to hold back, fool.

The three-eyed human smiles. “That is why exactly why I picked you.”

Nappa smiles deviously and stares right at him. “Interesting…”

The Namekian looks at Turles, who shrugs. Seems like they’re gonna fight too.

Then Rokka surprises you by approaching the small doll-looking human. “And I’m taking you on!” She says. Kalabash takes hold of her and reprimands her: “What are you doing?”

“I accept.” The small doll-guy-child-whatever says.

The rest, meanwhile, seem to be getting ready for the light show.

=== THE FIRST SHOWDOWN OF TEAM GOKU VS TEAM VEGETA ===
It seems we’re about to have an all-out brawl between two rival groups! Which side will be the strongest?!

Here is our current roster of fights!

Rokka VS Chiaotzu
Yamcha VS Calava
Nappa VS Tienshinhan
Piccolo VS Turles
Vegeta VS Kakarot

How could the humans ever compete?! Our power levels are so much higher! Maybe they have some sort of hidden trick?

Let's see first, what level of effort should I put into this FIRST SHOWDOWN?

>Please no, let's chill and focus on Vegeta VS Kakarot, QM rolls the rest and call out interesting moments so we don't get bogged down too long.
>Actually fuck it, let's have fun. Fights happen one after the other, each gets a few short posts and characters get their own rolls by players! Except maybe Rokka VS Chiaotzu, that one might be boring (unless?)
>Another proposal?
>>
>>5440925
While a full on one by one thing might be a little slow, I think it'd look fuckin great for later reading. I'm gonna try my best to make each fight interesting and unique, perhaps even giving new techniques to characters that may not have signature techniques (Calava and Rokka come to mind).

Krillin does not participate because he'd probably wreck Kalabash.

I'll let this decision stew for a while, see if both EU friends and USA friends can get their votes and opinions in on how to progress.

Technically wouldn't be a total roll hell if fights go one by one, ~4 rolls per fight maybe which would make like 16 rolls total? That is quite a bit lol

The whole group flew towards the arid wastelands and took positions on ground, rock and air.

The first to step up to fight was the human with the scar. You can tell that he has a little over half of Calava’s power. With a great deal of luck, he could beat her.

You see him crack his knuckles, then his neck. “Alright, are you ready?” He asks.

She takes a hand to her mouth to stifle her laugh slightly, but still wanting to be heard, she then speaks. “Are you sure about this, earthling? Unlike the rest of the Saiyans here, I’ve yet to be mellowed out into pitying your sorry power levels.” Her stare turns, you see a true bloodlust in her eyes. “I will not have mercy on you.” She says. “You will hurt.”

You see a hint of worry on the earthling called Yamcha. But he strikes a fighting pose and steels himself swiftly. “I thought we had just run across prideful, evil Saiyans when we met the others a year ago but it seems you guys are just that way.”

Calava smirks. “Oh, you don’t even know half of it.”

Yamcha raises his hand and beckons. “Come and get me.”

Calava then rushes forward and Yamcha assumes a peculiar stance as she closes the gap.

How will Yamcha and Calava’s fight start?! Let’s find out!

Each character gets a best of two so I need two rolls for Yamcha and two for Calava! Call out who you're rolling for in the post! Rolls that don't call out will go to Yamcha until he got his two rolls, and then to Calava until she gets hers. (This system is subject to change in case it bogs down stuff too much.)

Calava throws a fist forward, a very simple blow with which she intends to end the battle quickly, but Yamcha dodges, maintaining a strong stance. Calava’s fist tears through the ground and she looks to her opponent. She cowers for a moment, as she feels like she is looking at a wolf that has just caught its prey.

“Wolf fang fist!”

Yamcha delivers a blow to her stomach with a strange half-closed palm, then one to her face and a kick to her side that sends her flying. Calava crashes onto the ground, sending dust into the air, she redresses herself, leaving a knee on the ground to keep stable. Yamcha comes right out of the barrier of dust delivering more and more blows. They are slow, but each is meticulously placed, to the gut, to the head, to the knee and elbow.

Eventually, an already bruised Calava catches on to the technique and starts redirecting some of the blows and blocking others, eventually she is able to find an opening as Yamcha thrusts towards her arm. She blocks that blow and throws her fist forward with all her might, her whole body accompanying the blow. Yamcha blocks with his spare arm but he is still sent flying off into the sky. Calava takes a breather but Yamcha does not waste time, he throws his hands back, gathering between them a mass of blue energy. You remember that technique, Kakarot used it against you, it seems to be common to all these strong earthlings.

“Kamehameha!” He yells and throws his hands forward, a large beam hurling towards a surprised Calava, whose expression turns to panic, she puts her arms in front of her and stops the beam from hitting her whole body. It is a strong move, one that harnesses the user’s power perfectly. You see how Kakarot and his group watch the match with smiles on their faces, Nappa also does not seem too impressed, but you see a trickle of sweat on Raditz’ forehead, and Kalabash’s mouth is agape. The beam dissipates after a few seconds. Yamcha’s breath is long and arduous, and he’s intently watching the spot where Calava is.

Calava falls to her knees and spits some blood, she then falls forward onto her elbows. She scratches the ground with her fingernails and slams it with a closed fist before getting up. You see how her face has switched from bloodlust to unbridled rage. You tense up and ready yourself in case you have to stop her. This is not like that last duel with Kakarot where Saiyans could go as hard as they wanted, that human would die if he received a similar beating.

Yamcha resumes his fighting stance and Calava is about to spring towards him.

Calava flies forward, her anger causes her purple aura to be unleashed, dancing around her erratically, small strings of electricity popping up around her. She throws punches, kicks, and energy beams at Yamcha, each of them causing a large boom as they hammer his arms. Yamcha’s movements are strange… You check around the battlefield and see why, he has some sort of energy ball hanging around which he controls through the movements of his hands and arms, but he is too focused blocking blows. Calava is constantly attacking him and he has no time to move the energy ball back towards her.

Yamcha is getting visibly exhausted and Calava clearly notices this. You notice that as she throws each blow, she gathers energy into them as she throws back her fists, small balls of purple energy surround her fists like training gloves and are unleashed every time she attacks Yamcha. The human then dashes back and Calava launches herself forward with a crazed expression. You take a step forward to go and stop her from causing a mess, but Yamcha does a swift movement with his arm and fingers, stretching it forward then back and the ball flies right into Calava’s back.

It hits her, she yells in pain, blood pouring out of her mouth. She almost falls down, unable to keep her handle on the energy that keeps her in flight, but her anger gets the better of her and she dashes forward again. The human is clearly surprised by this and she throws her fist into his gut with one final outburst of purple energy gloving her hand. He blocks, but you can hear something snap and Yamcha yells, he takes hold of his broken arm and Calava falls down to the ground right after, exhausted from her last outburst.

You furrow your brow, had the human not properly blocked that blow, she likely could’ve torn something inside of him. She is undisciplined, utterly undisciplined. Reminds you of… you from way back.

Yamcha watches Calava get off the ground again. They stare at each other for a few seconds, both breathing heavily, clearly battered and bloodied.

“Come here sweetie.” She says, removing some blood from the corner of her mouth and spitting some more away. “By the time I’m done with you, your bones will be back in place.” Though she talks much, you can see that her energy is waning, she is completely spent.

You’re surprised to see Kakarot get out of his spot and fly towards the battlefield. “That’s enough.” He says. “You’re both clearly hurt.”

Calava looks at you. You nod. She grits her teeth for a few seconds then returns to your side. Rokka seems to be clearly worried for her health, Calava pats her head, telling her she’s fine.

She then looks at you, Nappa, Raditz and Turles. “You should’ve let me finish him.” She says.

“Oh, stop your prattling.” You say, tired of her antics. “You have made the same mistake that Nappa made, you underestimated the earthling. Had you taken this fight more seriously, you would’ve won handily.”

She furrows her brow, staring right into your only good eye, then sits down on a rock, crestfallen.

Yamcha returns with his companions, who seem to congratulate him for a job well done after worrying over the state of his arm. It’ll heal.

Kakarot yells towards your group. “We’ll consider that one a tie, or unresolved, I guess?”

“Whatever.” You reply.

The next contestants are… the Namekian steps up. Turles was leaning onto a rock wall with his arms crossed, when he sees the Namekian stepping up, he stands up and heads towards him.

The two eye each other, after an instant, two swirls of energy appear around them. Purple Turles, and a white aura for the Namekian.

It's time for Turles and Piccolo to duke it out!

The two stand at a great length from each other. Piccolo prepares various balls of energy in his hands which he lays all around him. The Hellzone Grenade. Turles watches each of them reach their position. He then flies off, up and to the right, while Piccolo stays in his mine field.

Turles joins up his hands and forms a circumference with them right in front of his chest. He charges up ki and forms a circle of energy, electricity flowing within it. He brings it up above his head and it expands greatly, he then throws it forward towards the energy balls.

The Namekian did not seem to expect much from this strange circle, but he is surprised to see it start dissipating his energy mines, by the time he realizes Turles’ plan, it is far too late. He slashes the slow circle in half and it dissipates, right behind it was Turles, who flew straight for him using the path cleared by his technique.

Turles’ fist slams into Piccolo’s arms as he protects himself. He launches himself backwards but stops halfway through his jump as he would otherwise hit his own mines, he dissipates the energy and the split second it takes for him to do so, Turles uses it to approach him and continue hitting him. Some hits land and some don’t, but those that land clearly bruise the Namekian and even break his skin, purple blood dropping from the wounds.

Piccolo stretches out his arm swiftly and uses it to grab Turles by the waist, lifting him up and attempting to slam him to the ground, but Turles breaks out in the middle of the air and throws an open palm towards a distant Piccolo. A large purple beam fires off from Turles’ hand and Piccolo answers with his own, the two beams clash and Turles’ purple energy begins to overwhelm Piccolo’s. He dashes out of the beam clash, burning his right arm in the process.

He’s breathing heavily, and Turles looks at him with some disdain from his spot up in the air. Turles crosses his arms and waits, as if expecting Piccolo to surrender, but he does not, he strikes his battle pose again.

It seems Piccolo is losing this battle! Turles' overwhelming power level is leaving him without options.

We roll again! Will Big Green actually turn this around or is Turles' victory guaranteed?

Piccolo heads straight for Turles, he engages him but the Saiyan can easily block and counter his attacks. It seems the Namekian is desperate to try and find an opening and he receives many blows until he finally gets a kick into Turles’ head which stuns him for a moment, you see him retreat back in that instant and use what little time he has to setup his Hellzone Grenade around him once more. The Namekian takes two fingers to his forehead and starts charging his energy.

Turles watches him, his frustration growing. “Are you a complete fool? Why would you even use that same trick twice?” He yells. “I know exactly what you’re planning! You’re going to keep yourself safe in that turtle shell while you charge your damn laser beam!”

Piccolo is still charging, looking at Turles straight in the eyes.

“But I’m no fool.” Turles says. “I’m sure you’ve got something else planned. Perhaps you want me to repeat my earlier action.” He charges up his Ring Beam again, lifting it above his head and throwing it down, destroying part of the Hellzone. He seems to get hype, his eyes wide open and a toothy smile on his face. “Now I’ll end this! Prepare yourself!”

Turles creates a huge ball of purple energy above his head, enough to set off a gigantic explosion. It might be overdoing it a bit, but the Namekian deserves it if he was this foolish.

Turles hurls the ball with a victorious laugh echoing through the valley. Then you see Piccolo yell,

“Unlock!”

You look around surprised for Rasha, though he and Olond are not here. Piccolo’s muscles grow exponentially, the veins in his head seem to be about to pop off and a huge tornado of energy surrounds him. Turles’ smile wanes and he takes a step back. “What?!”

“MAKKANKOSAPO!” Piccolo throws his fingers forward, a thick beam of energy fires from his two fingers, surrounded by two other beams rotating in orbit around the main one.

“Impossible.” You utter, your warriors are looking at this astonished. It should’ve taken him minutes of energy gathering to muster this attack!

The beam tears right through Turles’ energy bomb and makes it dissipate in the air harmlessly, it flies straight for his heart and the Saiyan puts his hands forward to protect himself. You see the beam pierce his arm straight through his arm, tearing flesh, muscle and bone and for a moment you fear the worst but as soon as it breaks through his alloyed armor and burns the skin near his heart, the beam dissipates, doing no further damage.

Turles looks astonished at the hole in his armor and then back to Piccolo. He closes his eyes and looks down. “You won.” He says, then he flies back down towards your group.

Piccolo is breathing heavily, he has not moved since he fired that beam. You realize that he used Rasha’s Unlock technique to instantly pour out all of his energy into this one attack.

And it worked.

The Namekian takes one step and stumbles. You watch Kakarot’s son fly down towards him. “Mister Piccolo!” He says, his voice fraught with worry. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” Piccolo responds, but he leans himself on the child. Gohan takes him and flies back towards Kakarot's group.

Amazing. That is all you can think. Was it a last ditch effort or did he goad Turles from the start? Honestly, even you would’ve fallen for this trick, not knowing that he had access to a new power. The Namekian shows much promise, and you wouldn’t mind having him on your side for a while longer.

Kalabash is tending Turles’ arm wound when the next contestant steps forward. It’s the three-eyed human, Tienshinhan. Nappa cracks his knuckles and steps up. Normally you’d see a big smile drawn on his face, knowing he is about to pummel a weakling with a quarter of his power level. But he is somber, stoic, he takes his battle stance as does Tienshinhan and the two take steps to the side, eyeing each other up.

The strongest human VS the second strongest Saiyan (Turles doesn't count, he cheated)! Who will be victorious in this one-sided battle?! Let the rolls decide!

Nappa is watching the triclops with caution. Tien is the first to make a move with a technique of his own, he crosses his arms in front of him and suddenly three more silhouettes appear, breaking away from his body, they turn into three other Tiens, beings of what seems like pure energy. You notice that he divided his strength into four for this, it seems like an inefficient choice when faced with one single enemy.

“Is this a game of guess the correct triclops?” Nappa says, then he opens his mouth wide and fires a Mouth Beam, tearing through the ground where the four Tiens are. Three of them fly away, but one is torn by the blast. The three that remain take positions around Nappa, taking their hands in open palms to their foreheads.

Nappa realizes what is about and tries to look away, but everywhere he looks one of the Tiens is ready to get right in front of him again.

“Solar Flare!”

You see Nappa take his hands to his eyes in what seems like excruciating pain. He grits his teeth and curses under his breath while Tien’s clones dissipate and the original takes a position up in the air, putting his hands into a triangle.

“You little…” Nappa says. “No more playing around.” As he scratches his eyes with one hand, he takes another and lifts two fingers up. Sparks of electricity surround them and soon a concentrated wave of energy appears and expands outwards, causing a huge explosion all around him. Most of the fighters here present retreat at the sight of it, terrified by the huge crater forming right around Nappa. You are first hit by the wind rushing away from the energy with the strength of a tornado, then the energy blast approaches, you put a hand forward and block the attack, though you soon find that you have to slam your foot into the ground and use both of your hands to stop it from swallowing you up.

You watch Tienshinhan, who is surprised by the raw brutality of the attack. He takes his hands forward and attempts to block the wave of energy though you can see it’s getting through his defenses. Even with the defeaning sound of the destruction around you, you can hear him yell as he gathers strength.

“Kaioken!”

Tien’s body and aura turn completely red, his veins crop up and his muscles grow, a huge energy signature emanates from him and his body stops giving in to Nappa’s dreadful explosion. He even stops blocking, as much as it may hurt him to do so, this technique is still a broad explosion of energy, not a concentrated one. With his newfound power, he can handle the damage it’s causing.

He struggles to get his hands into a triangle, and as Nappa’s explosion ends, your elite warrior is surprised to see Tien about to use another technique.

“Kikoho!” A triangle of energy expands from his hands and engulfs Nappa whole. Nappa tries to block, but he’s slammed into the ground from which he bounces, his armor torn around multiple parts. “Kikoho!” Tien yells again and catches Nappa on the ground, bouncing him again and tearing through more of his arm, parts of the energy tearing through his flesh and muscle.

You see Tien sweating, having spent much energy in the last few seconds, and Nappa was clearly hurt by that so-called Kikoho, he spits some blood to the ground and clears his mouth. “I see.” Nappa says. “You guys finally got some spunk in you.” He takes his battle stance, charging up. “Then come and get some!”

Each character gets a best of two. Each anon rolls once. I need two rolls for Tienshinhan and two for Nappa! Call out who you're rolling for in the post! Rolls that don't call out will go to Tienshinhan until he got his two rolls, and then to Nappa until he gets his. (This system is subject to change in case it bogs down stuff too much.)

The two rush towards each other and enter into a swift brawl, the speed of which leaves many on the ground behind. You can see Calava struggling to keep up with the action. Nappa gets a few good hits into Tien while he lands a few devastating punches on Nappa’s chest and gut, the strength of them being enough to knock the wind off of him.

Nappa holds to his gut and takes a few steps back, the wind knocked out of him. Tien then charges up his strength even more and with a powerful yell, two arms erupt out of his back and he dashes forward again. He starts pummeling Nappa, who already had a hard time keeping up with the two arms, now against four he is getting beat. The two upper arms hammer his face constantly, while the two lower ones concentrate on his gut. It’s a veritable flurry of punches, never had you seen someone getting hit so many times in so little time.

Finally Nappa seems to get ahold of himself, he locks Tien’s arms after guessing his next attacks, then he rotates, the wind getting pushed around as Nappa prepares to launch Tien, he does so, throwing him in the air.

“I won’t allow this!” Nappa yells. “Get ready to have a taste of my Break Cannon!” He opens his mouth wide and starts charging up his mouth beam but… He can’t?!

He takes hold of his gut as he feels a pang of pain in his belly. You hear Calava’s voice behind you, “The human did something to Nappa’s diaphragm. I noticed it earlier when I fought with the scarred one, their hits are not powerful, but they know exactly where to hit you.”

You furrow your brow, Nappa still trying to fire his Mouth Beam. Didn’t the fool notice that his own breathing was faltering?

“Give up!” You hear Tien yell from the skies, his four arms coupled into two different triangles.

Nappa glares at Tien. “I’m not done yet.” He says, his voice accompanied by blood pouring out of his mouth. “I’m not done yet!” He yells as his eyes charge up two beams which he fires right out of them towards Tien.

“Double…” Tien says, two triangles of yellow energy charge up in his hands. “Kikoho!” He yells, the two triangles join up into one forming a dazzling light that rivals what this planet’s sun provides, and this single triangle of pure energy tears right through Nappa’s eye beams. The corner of your mouth twitches in irritation as you watch it reach Nappa, pummel him to the ground and bury him under the ground, destroying all around him in what seems like a hundred meter radius. Dust, stone and dirt flies all around you, a huge shockwave forcing some of the spectators to hold their ground, though you and Kakarot both watch it completely still, unflinching.

When the light subsides. Tien’s Kaioken disappears, his muscles return to normal, as do his veins, and he falls limp through the air. The two small bald humans, Krillin and Chiaotzu, you think, grab him before he smashes the ground.

Meanwhile Nappa is laying unconscious in the middle of the crater, his armor torn and his whole body battered and bloody.

Kalabash watches the scene, utterly amazed. “So this is the power of the earthlings…”

“Tch.” You utter. “Raditz, Calava. Go and pick Nappa up.” You say, the two nod and fly out to get him.

Meanwhile, you look at Kakarot cross-armed. He flies and lands in front of you. “Two wins for us and one tie.”

You chuckle. “Hmph. If you want something done right…” You say.

You and Kakarot step into a part of the wasteland that has not been torn by battle. You stand there, arms crossed, and look at Kakarot. A gust of dry wind passes by. You strike your pose, as does Kakarot. It is time.

We will resume later to start our duel with Kakarot! Someone's got to defend our Saiyan pride after all.
>>
>>5442281
Did Piccolos win really count as an earthling win? He was training with us the whole time and is also an alien.
>>
>>5442282
That's what Goku says.

Who knows what'll happen if Piccolo hangs around you for long enough.
>>
>>5442282
If so, we only won against ourselves.
I think the large amount of earthling wins is good for our new arrivals, to be honest. Seeing firsthand how earthlings are capable of defeating beings many times their power level will convince them that this planet is the key to defeating Freeza.
Of course, we’re not gonna give them a perfect score. Kakarot’s going down.
>>
>>5442337
It works as proof that power levels are bullshit and that there's hope for weaker fighters to defeat stronger ones, as long as they use techniques instead of brute force.
>>
>>5442337
>>5442341
Huh we've actually got ourselves a win/ win situation here. The losses reinforce what we said earlier about finding a different path away from just brute strength (nappas loss in particular was a great boon for that message). Any wins from brute force would easily be spun into the usual saiyan pride bullshit. Now with us vs kakarot it's a great display of the effectiveness of brute strength when applied with multiple techniques. Even if we lose to Goku we can spin it as us still learning this new methodology ourselves.

>>
>>5442752
The earth isn't quite there in their tech level yet. Bear in mind the arm has to connect with the user in such a way that energy can flow through. AS an example Future Gohan didn't get a prosthetic arm even though Bulma was preparing a time machine.

That doesn't mean it's impossible though, technological levels are bullshit and you've got two savants on Earth.

Kakarot stares at you dead on. A few seconds pass as you gauge each other’s power levels. He’s at around 16.000, half more than he was a year ago, while you stand at a healthy 25.000. A year ago, you would’ve considered this battle won, but now, you are wary. Kakarot and his crew have new tricks up their sleeves and if he has Tien’s ability, he may very well be able to increase his power level twofold.

Still, there is no point in standing around idly. It’s time to make a move.

>Ki Sword. You’ll cut him until he can’t stand anymore!
>Way of the Wind Martial Arts. Your punches will flow with the wind and it will carry your energy as strongly as if you were hitting him yourself.

Let’s not show our hand right off the bat, guys. We should keep Way of the Wind as a surprise range extender when we’re already in the thick of battle. That way, we can strike Kakarot when he thinks he’s safe and take further advantage of the confusion.

You have a strong desire to surprise Kakarot as the battle starts. You slam a foot to the ground, then the other, you concentrate on the flow of the wind around, its strength, its direction. First, you make a wide move with your arms to harness the wind around you, then you throw your fist forward towards a befuddled Kakarot who is wondering what your plan is.

Your power level is much stronger than Olond’s, and as you throw the air forward with your fist, a sonic boom occurs right in front of you. You see Kakarot getting slammed in the face as if your own fist connected against it. You launch more punches with slow, decisive movements, finalizing your flurry with a few kicks to the air. Each shattering the wind around you. This technique is rather loud, you’ve noticed.

Kakarot is hit by a few more of your blows. To the gut, chest, arm and once more in the head. He then starts to observe your body and predict the next blows to come, each of which he blocks ably.

“Nice move!” He yells, then he puts distance between you and him and begins to fly, you now have to predict where he will go due to the few seconds of travel time that the wind needs to reach him, something he realizes swiftly. He starts to gather energy in his hands, which forms into a rotating disc. “Kienzan!” He yells.

You open your palm and throw it down in a slicing motion, a swift and cutting gust of wind rushes towards the disc, tearing it in two. Kakarot is dashing towards you now, and though you are able to launch two or three more air punches, he blocks them.

You smirk. He’s rushing into a melee.

>Ki Sword. If he wants a melee, he'll have it.

And you will make that approach as painful as can be. You throw your hand back, charge energy into it, and throw it. You repeat the process at blistering speeds. Energy blasts fly forward towards Kakarot and no matter where he tries to dodge, the blasts slam into him. Each blast does very minor damage, but more and more of them land on your foe. You throw out so many blasts that Kakarot is engulfed in them, creating a veritable wave the blots out the Sun from him. Never had you taken a rhythm this good or powerful with the Blast Volley.

You do not stop. You see no reason why, you can tell there’s an almost insane smile on your face knowing that Kakarot is trapped in your constant barrage. You can see how the spectators of the fight are amazed by the display of colors, your energy switching around between white and purple. The earthlings are gritting their teeth, clearly nervous, while your warriors show nothing short of amazement.

Then you notice Kakarot’s power increasing. It seems the triclops is not the only one to have learned the Kaioken. An uncontrolled red aura explodes out of your volley, tearing right through the wall of blasts you had formed. He flies upwards, his whole body engulfed in a red tint, electricity swarming all around him. He is strong, stronger than you, even. His power level must be around 30.000, if not more.

This will make it an even fight then.

“You forced me to get into this form much faster than I would’ve liked, I gotta say.” He says with a smile on his face. He then flies towards you at a speed you had not seen in a long time.

His fist slams into your arms, which block the blow with a cross stance. He slams his other fist, which you move away with your own, then he launches a kick into your side, you are able to block it with your elbow, grab the leg, spin him a few times and launch him away. He slams onto a rock, tearing a crater into it as dust flies everywhere.

He gets off the crater, patting his head to numb the pain a little bit. “Not bad, Vegeta. We’ve both come far.” He says as he resumes his Kame school stance. “But now, it’s time to see who’s really gonna get the upper hand in this fight!”

You smile, assuming your stance. Finally, a worthy opponent. After what happened against Rasha, you know not to let your guard down against weaker opponents, but you relish the chance of fighting an equal.

It’s time.

>Ki Sword! Let’s continue the melee and teach this fool a lesson!
>Saiyan Martial Arts! Start slow, check him out and see what he’s got!

You both dash towards each other, slamming your forearms and staring one another dead in the eye. Kakarot throws a kick to your side, which you block, after which you punch him right in the face, he’s thrown off for a moment, but another kick flies towards your other side and it slams you in the arm. It hurts, badly. Its force sends you flying towards a cliff side. Kakarot follows up by picking your foot up and launching you in the air. You redress yourself see him fly towards you, he blinks out of existence and you close your eyes, you sense his energy right behind you, about to kick your back. You turn around, block his leg and slam your elbow down on it.

It doesn’t break. Things would not be as easy at last time. Kakarot yells and opens his palm in front of you, slamming multiple ki blasts on your chest and face until you’re forced to drop him to deflect them.

You can’t help but smile at the thrill of a battle like this, between two Saiyans whose power eclipses anyone of your race from 25 years ago. Soon, Frieza will be next, you know it.

Kakarot seems to notice your eager expression. “Seems like we both enjoy fighting, Vegeta.”

“Oh, you have no idea.” You dash once more and throw a flurry of punches and kicks at Kakarot until you break his guard, you punt kick him and he’s sent off flying. You disappear from sight and teleport behind him, slamming him even further up with a double kick, the sound of the impact is enough to cause a large boom that resonates all around.

You fly forward towards him again, slamming him a few times in this defenseless position. You notice his eagerness turning into anger, something that very much pleases you. He eventually gathers his strength and throws his fist forward, you are forced to deflect it, enough time for him to fire an uncontrolled ki blast that forms into a veritable cone of blue energy which burns your skin. As you dash away from the blast, you notice Kakarot gathering his energy.

“I won’t let you win this time!” He yells. “Kaioken!” You notice his fists clenching so hard that bloods drips out of his hand. His muscles grow and the aura around him widens and goes wild.

“Times three!” An explosion of red and electricity surrounds him. Amazing. He must stand at almost 45.000 right now. He’s even stronger than you thought. You’re taken aback by this raw display of power. He looks at you dead in the eyes and smiles.

“Sorry Vegeta, this transformation are only for those pure of heart.” He points towards your chest. “And you’re still too evil to learn it.” His demeanor has changed. He seems… serious? You’d even say he seems more Saiyan-like.

You chuckle. “I have no need for your petty pure-hearted transformations.” You point right back at him. “My fate is to become a Super Saiyan and destroy Frieza so our race can return to its former glory.”

“Super Saiyan huh? Like a transformation?” Kakarot says, curious. “That’s interesting. We’ll see who reaches it first!”

Once more, you both resume your stances.

>Galick Gun! He’s too strong for you to take on directly right now, you must fire all you’ve got before he gets the upper hand!
>Saiyan Martial Arts (Defensive). This transformation must be taking a toll on his body, it’s too much energy at once, if you simply wear him out, he’ll knock himself out.

It's Offical, we Shinka (Evolution) Mode/Spirit of Saiyans now. Bardock would be so proud. Who needs Kaioken when Saiyan biology lets us convert Saiyan Power into an Ascended State just by adapting/evolving.

I mean it would fit conceptually and narratively thanks to >>5450268. Vegeta getting tired of all these Kaiokens and clones (Unlock) so he just breaks his own limits and proves Saiyans are once again the mightiest warrior race. Thus, achieving his own ascended state without going wrathful or false super saiyan.

I find that early to middle Dragonball has a certain charm to it.
I also like early DBZ, but it's entirely because of nostalgia

Sorry guys, haven't been able to write much these past few days.

Mine is Saiyan Saga, it's got a cool cartoony look to it and the characters aren't all megabuff. I do like the anime style though.

Had that DragonBall flair but plenty of cool techniques before it became largely transformations and beams

You maintain your position, perking up only when you see Kakarot flash towards you. You know that you must use all of your skill here, Kakarot’s outburst will only last so long, but as long as it lasts, it can hurt you, bad.

And so you focus like you never had before. This whole year of training and powering up, defeat after defeat, in a way, it all led up to this moment. The moment when you fought an opponent that was just as powerful and equally as skilled, if not more, than you. Perhaps once you would’ve scoffed at the idea that this weakling could be stronger or more skilled, but no longer.

As Kakarot attacks, you take deft steps back, put your weight in one foot or another to better block blows, you swirl your upper body to dodge, deflect blows, throw a few small hit in. Kakarot is fast and strong, but you learned that speed and strength can be countered with discipline and a still mind. You remember the first days of Olond’s teaching. You wanted to fire gusts of wind with your hands from day one, and you could, but they were brute-forced, lacking in finesse. Olond taught you the poses and the patience. Each blow had to be meticulously calculated to further enhance the wind’s strength and yours.

You shut your eyes, feeling Kakarot’s outbursts of ki with each and every blow he throws at you. You know where it goes, what it aims. You remember your times with the Namekian. He taught you how to sit still and meditate for hours on end. A boring training method, but one that stills the mind, that makes you think of what you never think of. And then you see Rasha, how he dashed at his extreme speed towards Bulma’s plane, how you had to use all of your energy to ensure she did not crash and burn in front of your eyes, and how he destroyed you with his technique.

And at once, you see it. You open your good eye, sharp as a hawk, and see a weak point in Kakarot’s flowing energy. Your fist flies forward to meet his chest, right below his throat. It hits, and you feel Kakarot’s own fist slam into the side of your head. You’re both thrown off and tear through the rocky ground for a few dozen meters.

You get up and approach Kakarot. He’s on the ground, breathing a rough breath, his transformation is gone and his energy signature is low.

This is your victory.

You turn around to walk away, you see your companions, amazed at your display but you do notice that Calava is surprised when she sees your face. Because you’re surprised. You’d never done something like this, so… precise. So focused. Nothing else mattered but the battle. There was no joy, no anger, no jealousy or pride. Only pure and cold discipline. That is how Olond and the Namekian do it, you realize. That is their strength.

You see the Namekian come down with the rest of the fighters to pick up Kakarot. He stands between you and your fallen foe.

“I see you learned a thing or two.” The Namekian says.

“And I have only you to thank for that, Piccolo.” You reply, you felt that you had to show him this respect this once, for all he thought you.

His eyes open wide. “Right.” He smirks. “Even Saiyan princes have things to learn.”

[New Technique: Absolute Focus. Vegeta enters a state of mind in which he fully focuses on understanding, blocking and countering his enemy’s movements until he is able to retaliate on a focal point. This technique is especially useful against power-ups that burn out quickly.]

You smile back and return to your warriors.

Nappa seems to be back up, and he’s watched part of your fight. His armor’s all shattered and you can see many burns on his body. “That triclops had a bunch of aces up his sleeve.” He says. “Good display there, Vegeta.”

You nod and chuckle. “You never learn, Nappa. Never underestimate your enemy.”

He shakes his head as he laughs along with you. “You gotta recognize that you were not expecting that triclops to be that strong. Tien, was it?”

“Yes.” You reply. You look at your people. Nappa and Raditz, your most loyal. Turles, who perhaps has a fine heart under his attitude. The refugees, Kalabash and Calava, who can do nothing but look at you in amazement.

“As you can see, the earthlings are strong purely through training. This planet would’ve been considered one of weaklings to be exterminated by my father, but I am not him.”

You look at Kakarot being carried off. “Though we are not the same and our objectives are different, we have much to learn from these earthlings.” You then look at Calava. “The first lesson is to know that you need to learn.”

She nods, with a look that hovers between embarrassment and anger.

You cross your arms. “Then after that comes learning from all around you in order to become stronger. To defeat your enemies and restore our lost glory.”

You notice that all your companions look at you with even more amazement, Turles is wide-eyed, Nappa and Raditz have their mouths open in astonishment.

“V-Vegeta.” Nappa says. “Is your aura golden?!”

You look at your hands and around you, for a moment you see it. A glint only, a dash of yellow that swiftly dissipates and returns to your regular white energy. The sun is setting behind you, spreading an orange tint across the wasteland.

You look to the setting sun. “It must’ve been a trick of the light.”

Raditz gulps. “W-was it?”

Your group speaks no more words. You are the first to dash away through the air and the rest follow suit only a few seconds after.

Calava remains for a few more seconds, looking intently at the earthlings who are also getting ready to leave. As she looks at the one called Yamcha, she feels the pain on her back intensely. The one he caused. As Yamcha looks at her, she turns around and flies off.

That was one of my favorite aspects of Dragon Ball. Lots of fist fights and a bunch of varied techniques. It's not so much lowering your power and throwing it out efficiently, that's more of an energy saving technique. Instead you can read the enemy's ki and see a weakpoint which you can strike to block it, a bit like chakra points from Naruto/AvatarTLA/General Wuxia stuff.

I'd say in DB it's almost impossible to block these as long as energy flows efficiently, but outburst transformations like Kaioken fuck up this energy flow and make it easier to block.
>>
>>5452089
Then it goes without saying that you know that there's an actual pressure point martial art in DB where countless people like Roshi and Tao used
>>
>>5452103
I didn't know there was a specific usage of ki points but it doesn't surprise me, DB was basically a Wuxia manga. Son Goku is Son Wukong, etc etc.

The first Saiyan VS Earthling “Tournament” is over!

Let’s remind ourselves of the results:

Yamcha and Calava ended their battle in a tie.
Piccolo defeated Turles.
Tienshinhan defeated Nappa.
Vegeta defeated Goku.

That’s a 2-1 result in favor of the earthlings! It seems luck was on their side today, the odds were stacked heavily against them yet they pulled through! At least Vegeta was able to defend our Saiyan pride even in the face of a stronger Goku. The dice gods favor the bold.

We have discovered quite a few things in this tournament. Calava has some sort of energy boxing gloves that amplify the strength of her fists. Piccolo has learned how to use Rasha’s energy unlocking ability, they must have become well acquainted in the flight home. Tien has unlocked the Kaioken, and is able to grow two new arms (though this he could do for a long time), his terrifying Kikoho seems to be a powerful tool against greater foes. Meanwhile, Goku has also unlocked a terrifying power in his Kaioken, with which he can reach up to three times his own strength! Vegeta was able to defeat him only by creating a fully-fledged technique in the middle of battle, what a fearsome foe!

And it is a new day, our wounds have been (mostly) licked, though some will have to continue to recuperate in the following weeks aboard the spaceship. Nappa has taken quite a beating and Calava has been utterly exhausted the past few days.

You’ve woken up a few hours ago and enjoyed some of that sweet earthling coffee, you already asked Bulma to get some onto the spaceship before leaving. You step outside of your empty home and see Nappa and Raditz training their martial arts. Way down the ‘neighborhood’, you can see Calava relaxing on a long chair with sunglasses on, Kalabash is training with his daughter. You know that Rasha and Olond are in their homes, likely meditating.

You were going to take a seat on a chair outside of your house, but you spot a black dot in the sky, growing larger and larger. “Huh?”

The rest who are out and about have also diverted their attention to the dot, which increases more and more in size until it’s finally close enough to make sense of it. It’s the ship, larger and with a longer shape, and it’s flying down fast, almost as fast as an attack pod.

It’s so fast that you see Nappa and Raditz struggle to get out of its way by running, it takes them little to realize that they need to dash away or get they’ll get buried. Calava has gotten up and removed her glasses, Kalabash and Rokka look mouth agape at the ship, the latter jumping in joy at the sight.

The ship’s landing gears open up and you see it slow down extremely fast, so fast that a gush of wind spreads around it right before it softly touches the ground.

You walk up to the entryway and hear the airlock’s decompressor. The door opens in the middle, sliding to the sides. Behind it you see three people with technician fatigues, filthy with oil and grease. From left to right, they’re Bulma’s Father, Bulma and Turles.

Turles walks down the ramp as he stretches his neck and arms. He flies off to his home, likely to wash. Bulma and her father walk down the ramp after him with pride in their faces, though you notice her father is rather wary of you.

She looks straight at you. “Here it is, the Capsule Corps Saiyan Spacebase Mark II is ready to go!”

You close your eyes and feel your forehead’s vein propping up already. “That is…” You shut up, preferring not to get in this argument again. “Good.” You say. “Is the gravity room ready-“

She shuts you up by grabbing your arm. A part of you wants to swiftly drive her hands away, but that part of you is from a past you’d rather forget. She takes you up the ramp, her father walking behind. He starts to speak.

“My daughter’s calculations were good.” He says. “I refined a few parts here and there, but I otherwise only applied what she brought me. This ship will go twice as fast through efficient route calculation and new fission methods in the hyperdrive, it burns fuel at a much lower rate-“

“Don’t bore Vegeta with the technical stuff.” Bulma says angrily. She looks at you. “I’ll tell you all about it during our coffee breaks!”

Your face reddens. “Coffee breaks?” You shake your head. “Whatever. The gravity room…”

“Right here.” She says, letting go of your arm and slapping a button at a door’s side. Behind it is a large square room, empty save for a large control console in the middle. “See that column with the computer on it? It controls the gravity settings. It can go up to 100 times Earth’s gravity.” You can tell she’s proud of her creation.

Dr. Brief looks at her daughter. “Still.” He looks to you. “I recommend you don’t go higher than 50 times for the sake of your physical integrity. Even if you are of a powerful race, bipedal humanoids should avoid putting so much weight on their legs.”

“Yeah yeah, we’ll be careful dad.” Bulma responds, waving off his worries.

“We?” Dr. Brief raises an eyebrow. She shows him her tongue.

“And the rest of the ship?” You ask.

Bulma responds as she shows it off room by room. “We now have a proper holding cell. Reinforced bulkheads with emergency walls and doors that close down as soon as a hole is detected. If anyone can break through, it’ll take them a while to get past the three layers I’ve prepared.”

“Then there’s a proper living room with poker tables, arcades, some billiards, a bar, the works.” The room seems rather… cozy. Cushioned seats, warm colors on walls and floor and even a chimney.

“I kept the same looks for the bedrooms and made a few more in case we recruit new people, though I did change the windows to be a bit larger. Oh and each one has a TV now too, including a nice collection of DVDs for each. The bridge is pretty much the same, it made me nostalgic. Oh, I also kept the round window behind your desk at your room, I saw the way you looked at it.” She winks.

“What about Rasha’s ship?” You ask.

“Oh uh…” She says. “About that…”

You’re already expecting the bad news. “The ship was on complete lockdown.” You hear Turles’ voice behind you, he’s cleaned up and put on his armor. “Sorry for leaving suddenly earlier, I feel naked without the armor on."

“So?”

He crosses his arms. “If we activated any of the ship systems, it would’ve sent a galaxy-wide ping to Frieza’s forces. A sort of failsafe for stolen ships, new stuff, never seen it before. It’s a miracle I was able to put it on autopilot when we left the arid planet.”

“Rasha was a captain of an elite force.” You say. “His ship must’ve been top of the line.” It’s saddening news, having a second ship would’ve been a great boon.

“But.” Bulma interjects. “What wouldn’t trigger these signals was scrapping it for parts.” Her voice is rather merry. “Every tidbit I dug out of there was nothing short of miracle tech for Earth. It helped out immensely with getting the Mark II ready in such a short amount of time. I also researched its defensive alloys to reinforce this ship, the attack pods and my space to air plane.” She pats the walls. “This thing is a veritable juggernaut.”

Turles nods. “I uh…” He looks for the words. “I haven’t seen anything like it before. Bulma and her father are true geniuses.”

Dr. Brief pats Turles’ back. “And you’re a great technician yourself. I have to say.” He says with a smile, then looks at you. “Without Turles’ help, Bulma would’ve triggered half the defensive systems in the damn thing.”

Bulma reddens in anger while Turles’ scratches the back of his head. “I could’ve done it perfectly if you had not spent half the work time nagging at me about how terrible I was at it!”

“No need to argue.” You say calmly. “This ship is all that we expected and more. The loss of the other ship is not good news, but it matters little compared to this.”

“So, captain.” Bulma says. “When do we part?”

“As soon as possible.” You reply. “Turles, tell everyone that we’re departing.”

As you all leave the ship, Bulma and her father still arguing about some technical nonsense, you see Kalabash waiting for you outside. “Prince Vegeta.” He says.

“Kalabash.” You reply. “What’s the matter?”

“I’ve come to request that my family stays out of the matters of our rebellion.” He says. “Gisa and Oshe are non-combatants and my daughter Rokka is too young to be partaking in these battles. I will serve as a warrior for your army.”

‘Too young’ was not a term in the old days. All Saiyans fought from a young age. “Rokka wants to fight.” You say.

“Yes, but if something were to happen to us, I know that Rokka could defend my wife and son as well as I.” He replies. “Please, grant me this wish.” He looks down, awaiting your answer.

“So be it. Kakarot’s son would make for a good sparring partner for her, and she might even learn and develop new techniques we could all use.”

Kalabash nods in thanks. “New techniques? She’s only a kid.”

You shake your head. “Oh, you’d be surprised to see what Kakarot’s child is able to do.”

“Gohan, was it?” He asks, you nod. “I saw him yesterday. The way Nappa told it, the kid was supposed to be a craven with only a bit of Saiyan rage in him, but he looked… resolute.” Kalabash says. “Like his mind has grown beyond his age.”

It is true that the child did not attack you, even when you utterly defeated his father. Then again, you had made sure to not inflict as much suffering as you did last time as he was defeated. Still, even as he took his father by the shoulder, you remember that there were no tears, no yelps. Only a determined expression.

“It… could be.” You say. “They have undergone harsh training for the past year to ensure that they stood a fighting chance against us.”

“Us? I thought we were allied?”

“So we are but…” You have to think for a little while, wondering what to reveal and what not to. “We had our frictions. Our first idea was to conquer the planet after all, and though we did not reveal it to them, they could see evil in our auras.”

“Evil?” Kalabash asks. “How do you see evil in energy?”

“Don’t ask me, I haven’t yet discovered the trick.”

“Daddy!” You hear Rokka’s voice as she dashes to hug her father. “Have you been in the spaceship? Are we gonna fly again?”

“No, not you baby girl. You’re going to stay.”

“Stay?!” She yelps. “I’m eleven! I can fight!”

“And fight you will.” You say. “In training bouts with Kakarot’s son.”

“Whaaat?” She exclaims. “He’s just a little kid!” She splays out her arms in irritation.

Kalabash pats her on the head. “Rokka, have you been practicing the energy sense ability they taught us? He’s stronger than you.”

“So? Kakarot was stronger than Vegeta but he beat him.”

“Something you can’t do yet. Now shhh.” Kalabash shushes her. “You’re coming with us to visit Kakarot.”

She crosses her arms and pouts. “Whatever.”

You sigh and fly off, Kalabash and Rokka following suit. It only takes a little while to reach the verdant hills where Kakarot built his small country house. You can see him talking to his wife, though it seems more like she’s berating him. They swiftly sense you and the woman tenses up while Kakarot approaches you.

You land in front of him and you both stare at each other. “What’s up Vegeta?” He says nonchalantly. Quite a way to speak to a man who defeated him in one hit.

“Kakarot.” You respond.

“You were worried about me?” He laughs. “I’m totally okay, actually. The punch itself barely hurt me, were you holding back?”

“No, just fighting intelligently. Had it failed, I still would’ve had energy to continue fighting you.” You reply.

“Good thinking.” He says. “You fought very well yesterday, it was your win. Can’t wait for our rematch!”

You chuckle. “You do know that my people and I are heading off to places where we’ll likely encounter enemies, right? How are you going to increase your strength by staying here?”

“Oh I got some favors to call in.” Kakarot responds. “Anywho.” He puts his fists to his waist. “Who’s this little one? Aren’t you cute?”

“Huh?” Rokka says. “I’m eleven! I’m strong, not cute!”

Kakarot smiles broadly and looks at Kalabash. “We didn’t have time to meet. I’m Goku, the Saiyan from Earth. Is she yours?”

“Yes. I’m Kalabash, she’s Rokka. We’re here to ask if she can train with your son-”

You see Kakarot swiftly put a hand to Kalabash’s mouth and finger to his own mouth as he shushes, looking back to his wife, who’s seemingly gone back inside.

“Oh, phew.” He says, removing his hand from Kalabash’s mouth. “Chi-chi is super mad that I took Gohan with me to train for a whole year. Hehe.” Kakarot’s chuckle is clearly nervous. “But he wants to continue training with me, so I’m trying to cut a deal with her so he can train as long as he keeps up with his studies.”

You look at Kakarot, irked. “Your wife is keeping your son from realizing his full potential?”

He looks at you and waves off the thought. “Well, Gohan does want to study too. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up, y’know?”

Rokka’s head tilts. “A doctor? Isn’t that a non-combatant role?” She asks looking at her father.

“Earthlings live differently, Rokka.” Kalabash says.

“Then why are you making me stay here? I’m a Saiyan! I wanna be with Calava and fight with Prince Vegeta!”

Her father bends down and puts his hands on her shoulders, his face now serious. “Rokka. If something were to happen to me, Calava and Prince Vegeta and all the rest. I want you to defend your mom and your brother along with the earthlings. You hear?”

That utterly blunted the girl’s will to continue complaining, she looks to the side, dejected. “O-okay.”

He straightens up and clenches his fist. Then looks to Kakarot, whose mood seems have simmered down along with the situation. “Please take good care of her.”

“I will.” Kakarot replies.

Kalabash pats the top of his daughter’s head. “Pardon me, prince Vegeta.” He says, unable to look at you. “I must go tell my wife and son that I am departing.”

Kakarot looks at Rokka. “Well, I’ll go and get Gohan, just wait here. Are you staying a while, Vegeta?”

“No. I must leave for the ship as well.” You say as Kakarot enters his home. “Alright!” He responds.

Rokka approaches you and tugs on your cape. “Prince Vegeta, please make sure that nothing happens to my dad.” She says.

You look at her with your only good eye, your expression remains stern.

“I’d never forgive myself if I wasn’t there to protect him.” She says. You furrow your brow.

“We will protect each other.” You say, looking at the small trail of energy Kalabash leaves behind as he flies off. “And when you grow stronger, you will fight with us too.”

Rokka stayed with Kakarot, Chi-Chi and Gohan. You flew off not too soon after, remembering the melancholic stare in the girl’s face as she saw you lift off. You reach the Saiyan neighborhood rather fast and see someone you wanted to speak to. Calava. She just came out of the ship accompanied by Raditz and Nappa. It seems they’re cracking jokes and passing the time together.

You land in front of them and Raditz and Nappa eagerly welcome you. “Man, what a ride we got now, Vegeta!” Nappa says. “We’re going to be cruising through space more comfortably than we ever have before.”

Raditz smiles as he watches his fellow. “Yeah. Bulma really outdid herself, didn’t she?” He says. “Glad we didn’t blow up the planet as soon as we arrived, huh Nappa?”

Nappa crosses his arms with a playful smile. “Now, I haven’t said that yet. If these earthlings ever piss Vegeta off, I’ll make sure they get what’s coming to them.”

You cross your arms and can’t help but draw a smile. “I can take care of my own problems, you know?”

“Of course. Anyhow, gonna pick up some of my stuff. Bulma brought me some of that rotisserie chicken her mother makes.” Nappa says as he pats his belly. Raditz follows along and you watch them leave with Calava, who is having a hard time looking at you or participating in the conversation at all.

“Your technique yesterday was interesting.” You try and break the ice.

“So what?” She spits. “Just fighting that earthling almost knocked me unconscious and he’s barely as strong as some of Rasha’s mooks back in planet Vertes.”

You look at her with your one good eye. “I believe I’ve already told you what you’re supposed to do.”

“Yes, learn.” She says. “But learn what? That if any of Frieza’s soldiers gets a stroke of luck, I could be dead?”

“We fight together now.” You say. “All Saiyans have each other’s backs. That’s another lesson you need to learn.”

“I know that one.” She replies. “Kalabash and I learned it the hard way. But still…” She seems to gather the courage to look at you. “I want to defend Kalabash and his family. I want to fight for our cause and it all seems…” She stops.

“What you’re doing right now is another set of steps towards that goal. Your defeat against the earthling, your development of the energy boxing technique, your desire to protect Kalabash and the rest of the Saiyans of this universe.” You look down and ponder. “And through every step of the way, you have more and more allies to fight along with you.”

“Yeah. Turles, Nappa, Raditz, and you.” She says. “We’d probably be dust on Vertes now if it weren’t for you guys.”

“There’s also Piccolo and Bulma.” You add.

She takes hold of her arm with a sad look. “Yeah. They helped too.”

A silence settles down, broken by a gust of wind.

“I’m sorry about what I did during the trip here. I wasn’t thinking straight when I went to your office.” She says.

“It’s fine.” You reply.

“If you have a thing with that earthling, I wish you two the best.”
>>
>>5453236
You shake your head. “I have duties, Calava. Many duties. Not just to the people here, but to those who are still out there.” You look up to the sky. “Whether it’s one or a hundred or a million Saiyans, that’s my ‘thing’ now. I have procrastinated for far too long.”

She smiles wanly. “That makes two of us then, Vegeta.” She says. “On my father’s name, I swear that I won’t rest until we’ve saved them all.”

You smile back at her. “Good.”

She turns around to walk back to her home. “Oh.” She says, not turning around. “If you want, I can teach you the boxing technique. It’s easy once you get the hang of it.”

“I’ll see if I can spare the time.” You say.

“Yeah, wouldn’t want to interrupt your cozy time with the big green alien!”

Hmph. What an upstart. Speaking of. You have heard little of him even though we are leaving today. Perhaps he’s at that waterfall he likes so much…

There he was, by his waterfall. You find that Olond and Rasha are both there as well, meditating at his sides among the tranquility of the forest.

You lower yourself down softly and the three of them acknowledge you with nods.

“Piccolo. Olond. Rasha.” You say. “We are departing soon.”

Rasha and Olond nod. “The nature of this planet is rather enjoyable, master Vegeta.” Olond says. “Perhaps you should meditate with us for a while too. The ship won’t go anywhere.”

You’re tempted, much to your own surprise. “I’d like to, but the mission to Sadala Station is a top priority for me.”

“Of course.” Rasha says, getting out of his cross-legged position and standing up. “The future of your race depends on it.”

You nod. “I’m afraid so.”

Piccolo raises an eyebrow in irritation and finally stops meditating. He stretches a bit, his weighed clothing moving along with him. “Your punch yesterday was quite a show.” He says.

“Let’s say I’ve gotten tired of sudden outbursts of power.”

Rasha chuckles. “Then you must be tired of your own people. I remember seeing you in the various stations of the Cold Empire way back when. Your power level was what? 15.000? Now you stand at 25.000 barely a year later.”

“18.000” You correct him. “It was at 18.000.” You look at Piccolo again. “My punch wasn’t the only show yesterday. You’ve also learned a few things, haven’t you?”

Piccolo smiles defiantly. “Let’s say that I feel a sense of camaraderie with my fellow alien friends.”

Rasha and Olond laugh at that. “Yes, prince Vegeta.” Rasha says. “I have taught Piccolo how to unlock his power and he has used it most admirably. To think it could be used to instantly charge a beam attack.”

Olond shakes his head. “Not that Piccolo is the only one that received our aid, master Vegeta. Your proficiency with the way of the wind is also admirable.”
Well, at least these three get along nicely. “I’d like to be informed of these matters. I must know all the assets I have at hand when things get hairy.”

“I know how to handle my own power, thank you very much.” Piccolo replies. “But I’ll make an effort for you.” The Namekian then unleashes his aura. “By the way, have you noticed that I’m at that ‘power level’ you requested?”

That is true, he has reached 9.000 after the battle with Turles. Perhaps the pure strain and effort to efficiently manage his energy has shown some hidden power he had inside him. “That is true…” You say, scratching your chin.

Olond seems slightly disheartened. “Master Piccolo is already this strong? It seems I’ll have to redouble my efforts.”

“So it seems.” Piccolo responds to Olond. “Since we’re here, I’d like to inform you that I do not want to go to Sadala Station with you and your crew. I’d rather stay behind on Earth.”

You open your eyes wide. “What?”

He looks at you, eye to eye. “I’d like to train with Goku and his son. I know that child has a great power in him. I have already taught him much, and I’d like to continue doing so.”

He crosses his arms. “And since my promise was to fight for you until I reached a power level of 9.000, I believe I’ve done my part of the deal. The next step is for us to travel to Namek.”

“You are saying the truth…” You say. Piccolo is a great boon to your crew, but perhaps it is best to let him stay home, cement the fact that you are now treating him as an ally and not a subject. But still, his strength would be invaluable if you encountered foes during your trip.

Piccolo then closes his eyes. “Of course, if you need me so much, I’ll go, but I would really rather stay and enjoy my time with Gohan here.”

Is this Namekian Gohan’s father now? Curse the earthling ways’ of softening hearts.

“You are right, you have done your part now.”

Piccolo nods. “Thank you, Vegeta. I wish you good luck.”

Rasha and Olond say their goodbyes to Piccolo and the three of you depart. The Namekian watches you go, he frowns and tries to return to his meditation, though he has a hard time doing so.

As you fly back to the ship, Rasha approaches you. “Lord Vegeta. I’ve been digging around an info-holo I had as captain of an elite force, which provides information on ongoing missions and threats for the Frieza force.” He brings it out and you look at it as you both fly. “Its last update was around six months ago, our departure from Vertes. If I were to reconnect it to the holonet, it would give away our position.”

“Any information on Sadala Station?”

“I began serving Frieza’s army around 8 years ago, that’s how far my backlog goes. I saw no mentions of any operation at Sadala Station. The latest intel said it was derelict.”

“Isn’t that good news?” You ask.

“It merely implies that Frieza has no interest in it.” Rasha responds. “Which, in a way, is good news.”

The three of you arrive at the ship. It seems everyone is getting in already. Raditz, Nappa, Turles, Calava and Kalabash are all here. Rasha and Olond descend to enter while Gisa, Rokka and Oshe return home after saying a mournful goodbye to Kalabash.

All that remains is Bulma, who appears in the horizon, flying towards the ship. You land as she does right below the loading ramp, only the two of you remain outside.

“Ready to roll, captain?” She asks.

“We depart now.”

“Aye aye.” She confirms. “To Sadala Station!”

You sigh and get on up into the ship. It lifts itself off the ground slowly at first, then booms upwards after ascending a safe distance. It enters hyperspeed after a few minutes and the stars flow by your window like white streaks on a black canvas.

== INTERLUDE; GOKU AND THE Z-FIGHTERS AT THE LOOKOUT ==

The Z-Fighters stand at the lookout, waiting for Goku and Gohan to arrive for training.

Yamcha is sitting daydreaming while Tien awaits, irritated and only slightly comforted by Chiaotzu. Krillin exhales a deep sigh. “Man, Goku’s late for the first day of training.”

Tien crosses his arms. “Of course he is. He doesn’t understand the danger we’re in.”

“Exactly!” Krillin exclaims. “Sure, you guys and Piccolo beat those three Saiyans by using all of your energy, but if we had to fight that Vegeta guy after what he did to Goku? We’d be dead meat.” A trickle of sweat appears on Krillin’s forehead. “This sucks. Goku had the Kaioken and brought it up to three times and he still couldn’t beat him.”

Tien looks at Yamcha with his three eyes. “If Yamcha wasn’t so busy ogling his opponent, maybe he would’ve been able to finish the job.” Yamcha does not respond, completely lost in his own world.

“Hey wolfy, I’m talking to you!” Tien taps Yamcha’s arm with a kick, bringing him out of his daze.

“Jeez what’s wrong with you guys!” Yamcha yells, as he stands up. “The Saiyans are gone, can’t you chill for a moment?”

“Chill?” Tien asks. “Do I need to remind you that we’re only half as strong as that boxing girl you fought yesterday?!”

“Oh yeah, she was so dreamy.” Yamcha says as he returns to his daydream.

“Oh for the love of-“ Tien’s exasperation is interrupted by Piccolo’s arrival. Krillin and Tien watch him warily.

“So, done working for the enemy?” Krillin asks.

“’Working for the enemy’. That’s a new one from you.” Piccolo says as he lands. “I am not ‘working’ for them, merely trading favors.” He looks at Yamcha. “If anything, you should be wondering if scarface over there will betray you for the new love of his life.”

“Trading favors?!” Krillin yells in an abject shrill voice. “Man if they died on whatever planet they went to get their friends, Earth would be that much safer!”

Piccolo furrows his brow, irritated. “You do know that we saved a family, right?”

“A family from a warmongering race that sends its kids to wipe out whole planets to resell them later!” Krillin exclaims.

“Oh shut it.” Piccolo says. He crosses his legs and arms and starts floating, entering his meditative state.

“Can’t believe this guy.” Krillin says.

“Hey guys!” Goku’s voice suddenly appearing sends Krillin dashing back in surprise and makes Tien strike a fighting pose. “You like it? I’ll call this technique the Hidden Ki, I think.”

“H-h-how?!” Krillin yells, he then sees the girl besides Gohan. “W-wait! Is that the Saiyan kid?!”
>>
>>5453452
“Yeah, her name’s Rokka.” Goku says.

“You got a problem with me?” Rokka says, her tail swirling around in contempt.

Tien ignores her and looks at Goku. “What are you doing Goku?! Why is she here?!”

“To train, duh.” Goku says.

Piccolo stays silent, which prompts Krillin to look at him. “Wait, you knew about this too?!”

Piccolo only displays contempt. “Not my fault that Goku wants to be a foster dad.”

“My dad is Kalabash!” Rokka yells.

“Come on guys, chill out, let me explain!” Goku says. While the three of them argue back and forth, Yamcha approaches Rokka and takes her by the hands, much to the amazement of the rest who instantly stop fighting.

“Hey, could you tell me more about this Calava girl?”

“YAMCHA!” Tien yells so hard that half the lookout shakes.

>>
I'll be that guy. Is Broly one of the saiyans we can potentially find?
>>
>>5453452
Man Krillin is such a bitch that it makes me disappointed. Tien has the same mindset but at least he knows how to keep his composure and focus on what matters. They all really need to stop relying on Goku for their clutch and get their shit together.
>>
>>5453456
So... will you do like green chad and find a waterfall to meditate under for a year, or can we expect continuation sooner?
>>
>>5453555
Yes but due to his ridiculous power level, he won't appear for a while.

>>5453873
I went for a DB Abridged sort of Krillin for my version because I barely remember what he was about in the show.

>>5453883
I want to prepare some interesting stuff for the near future of this quest. I still have the drive to write the quest, so that's good.
>>
>>5453452
Kek, classic Yamcha.
>>
>>5453913
That just makes me wonder, can our new ability disrupt Brolys wild energy and calm him down again? Depending on whether it's Z or S we could help him get in control much better than his father could.
>>
>>5454097
I don't think Z Broly can be reasoned with honestly.
He's evil just because he likes it and it's funny to cause destruction.
Super Broly would be ok if you keep the dog collar on him.
>>
>>5454104
With how unstable his energy is I was hoping that our Absolute Focus (maybe a more advanced version) would be able to knock him out of his berserker rage. Z Broly is almost definitely a lost cause but I think we'd have a good shot of keeping S Broly in check
>>
Well, that was a good read.
I'll see you all in a year or two.
>>
>>5454097
>>5454104
I way prefer S Broly to Z Broly. DBS Broly is actually my favorite dragon ball movie so far.
>>
>>5454183
You think you'd have both iterations in the story or are you only gonna roll with (supposedly) Nu-Broly?
>>
>>5454190
Haven't given it much thought but if I had to choose right now I'd totally go for DBS Broly
>>
The issue with Z Broly is that not only was Z Paragus more of a manipulative asshole, it looks fairly obvious that his massive power is painful for him, thus causing his madness.

If we can find a way to help contain that, he might be more amenible to us.
>>
>>5454244
You know, I actually had a discussion about Z Broly.
When you get a proper re-watch on the movie, you realize that Paragus wasn't THAT bad of a guy even in Z.
The guy had a kid, he risked his life for him (when you can have parents like Bardock, but granted he had a powerlevel of 10k at birth and you don't throw away a golden goose), he raises the kid, said kid decides to fly into space and blow up planets, you go after him and he just laughs as you try to stop him.
He then grows into a teen and keep doing the same shit, except that now he's too strong for you to restrain him physically and he even punches your eye out when you try to stop him from blowing up a planet.
They even seemed to have a normal relationship when Broly wasn't having random outbursts since he calls his dad normally when he wakes up, three seconds before Paragus puts the mind control thing on him.

== BEGINNING OF CHAPTER 8: SADALA STATION, THE FATE OF THE SAIYANS! ==

The first few days of the trip had passed. One of those boring mornings you ate with Kalabash and Nappa in the new canteen after spending the morning training with them. The food was better this time around, Bulma’s mother had cooked enough food to last the crew for an entire month. Of course you had to keep it frozen so it didn’t spoil, but her ingredients were so good that the food remained tasty. The rest of the crew had yet to come by to eat.

The meal was mostly silent, there was nothing like enjoying homemade food after some rough exercise. Nappa seemed reticent to eat after the first few bites.

“Is something wrong, Nappa?” You ask, slightly irked by the fact that you seem to have to push it out of him.

“I, uh…” He looks at his food, then at Kalabash. “I’ve been meaning to ask you a question.”

The other Saiyan did not expect the conversation to head towards him. “Huh?” He says. “Me?”

“Yeah, about the Saiyan resistance.”

“Oh, of course.” Kalabash replies, he puts the cutlery down on his platter. “What about it?”

“Was there a woman in it? A little older than me. Non-combatant. Good with weapons. About the height of your wife with short, black hair that parts mostly to her right side?” Nappa asks, it seems by his saddened tone that he’s expecting a negative answer.

“Uh…” Kalabash starts thinking. “Well that is a rather generic female Saiyan.” Kalabash says, Nappa furrows his brows as he stabs the chicken on his plate, discouraged. “What was her name? We usually knew each other’s names in the resistance.” Kalabash says.

“Sibara, though she mostly went by Sid.”

“Oh, yeah. Sidara was a technician that specialized in the station’s weapon systems.” Kalabash replies. “One of the veterans of the crew, actually.”

You see Nappa’s eyes light up. “Really, are you sure?” He says.

“Yeah, she was very high ranking, for a non-combatant.” Kalabash continues. “You could say she was Taliso’s second-in-command.”

“What happened to her?”

“I have no idea.” Kalabash says. “The last battle was a blur. There were so many Frieza soldiers and we all knew our cause was lost. We were boarding pods and ships to leave as quickly as possible.” You can see that he is not enjoying the memories this story brings. “The warrior Saiyans flew out into space to fight the invaders and tear a way out for the escaping ships.”

It takes a moment for Kalabash to continue. You and Nappa wait patiently. “Many died fighting. Only a few of the ships and warriors broke through. Those warriors that did boarded the ships and we entered hyperspeed. Each ship went its own way to avoid persecution, and most only had fuel for one trip.”

Kalabash shuts his eyes, holding back tears. “I was so glad to see that Gisa was safe.”

Nappa frowns. “I’m glad she was.” He shakes his head. “Whether Sibara lived or died, at least she did so fighting.”

Kalabash nods. “Yeah, Sibara was a warrior, through and through.” Seeing that he’s done with his food, he excuses himself and leave.

Nappa looks at you for a moment. “I’m gonna leave too. I’ll take the afternoon off, if you don’t mind.”

“I don’t but at least come and dine with us.” You say.

He nods, gets up and puts the food near the counter, in case anyone wants it for seconds.

“Vegeta.” He says. “I know our mission is important but… Don’t fuck up like I did. I should’ve married that Saiyan, status be damned.” He stays still, pondering. “I really should have.”

“She’s still out there, Nappa.” You say. It’s not every day that you see Nappa’s age weighing on him, today is one of those days. He says his goodbyes and leaves.

You finish your meal and head to your own room to think, around an hour later, you’re almost dozing off when you hear a knock on your door. Bulma’s voice comes right after it. “Hey Vegeta, can I come in?” She says. You can tell she’s focused on something else.

“You can.” You reply, and she does so. She’s looking at a datapad and tapping in something. “Sorry for bothering you, I was actually checking out the ship’s autopilot system.”

“Is something wrong with it?” You ask.

“No, just making sure everything goes to plan. It is the maiden voyage of the Mark II after all.” She puts the datapad on your desk. “Here, check it out.”

You take it, look at it and smirk. “How am I supposed to understand any of this?”

As you look up you see her face approaching yours with what is clearly a different look in her eyes. “Here, let me teach you.” She says as her mouth approaches yours, the touch of her soft lips is-

You wake up, a loud banging at your door. “Oh god damn it.” You say, pressing your eyes. “Prince Vegeta!” You hear Raditz’ voice at the other side. “Turles, Calava and I have been waiting 20 minutes for you, is everything alright?”

“Yes, I’m fine!” You yell. “Just dozed off. I’m coming.”

“Alright, sir. We’ll wait for you.”

Sometimes, you hated your ape brain.

I realized that the space trip likely won't have any big decisions to make in terms of Vegeta's objectives, but it could be an interesting section to speak with members of the crew. Time to gauge interest!

>Spend some time with Raditz. It's been a while since you last spoke alone and he seems utterly focused on the mission.
>Talk with Turles. His power readings have been stabilized for the past few months, standing at a rather healthy 17.500, and you've noticed that he still makes some... peculiar jokes about conquering Earth.
>You wouldn't mind getting to know Kalabash a little deeper. He's been in the Resistance and knew Calava's father, sure, but what does he have to say about himself in this story?
>Rasha and Olond could tell you a little bit more about their homeworlds.
>Spend some time with Calava. The ordeal she has to go through due to her father's passing is rather sad and you wouldn't mind giving her a shoulder.
>Go see Bulma. You joke around a lot with her, and speak much about the technological progress of the ship and its new capabilities, but who is Bulma really and why does she do all of this for you?

Not adding Nappa because we already had our moment with him, but opportunities to talk with him will come!

It had been a while since you spoke with Raditz of any matters deeper than training or fighting. Not that there seems to be anything wrong with the Saiyan, he is focused on his task at hand and the talk of him becoming more human has lessened for the past year since he spent so little time on Earth. Still, it never hurts to get to know the people who serve you a little better. After training the same afternoon after that meal with Nappa, you head to Raditz’ room.

You ring at Raditz’ room and as he opens, he’s surprised to see you. “Oh, prince Vegeta.” He says. “I thought Nappa wanted something. Is something wrong?”

“No, I merely wanted to speak with you, to see how you’re doing.” Raditz had changed the pelt cap that covered his lost arm with one made out of the same textile as your cape, energy conductive stuff.

“Of course, come in.” He invites you with his one arm to enter and closes the door behind you. His room doesn’t have much in terms of decoration, though you do notice that he has the gi, the clothes of Kakarot’s Kame school, carefully tucked in an open drawer. There’s also a picture of him with Kakarot, Piccolo and Gohan.

You smirk. “Keeping some mementos of your time at Earth?”

Raditz smiles, he takes the picture in hand. “I guess so.” He sits on the side of his bed and you sit on a chair nearby. “Kakarot and his group saved our lives and…” He looks at you. “…I guess I simply enjoy spending time with them. Their way of life is so simple, yet I don’t think I’ve met a merrier Saiyan in my entire life.”

You sit there and listen intently. Raditz continues. “After what happened to us at Rekar, something snapped in me. The whole planet tore itself around me, I had time to see my arm’s stump bleeding out and Nappa desperately trying to get up before I lost consciousness.” He smiles. “I thought I was dead. That it was over. And as I thought of that, I had something come to my mind. What did I do with my life?”

You feel your own mind grow somber. “A good question.” You say.

“Yeah. I realized that all I did led up to that moment, to a death like that. We travelled, we fought and we conquered until we died but it felt… Empty. All of it. It was all pointless slaughter and we had also been pointlessly slaughtered, as part of a cycle of destruction.”

You feel your seat growing uncomfortable. Raditz continued. “Then I met my brother. He was so strong, as were we, but I remembered that he was supposed to be a pathetic weakling according to many Saiyans back at planet Vegeta. Yet I saw how far he’d come, and the life he led to reach that point.”

Raditz looks at you. “It was a life of defending the weak, of defeating evil. It’s how that weakling who barely reached a power level of 500 when he was a baby turned into the mighty warrior that could stand toe to toe with you.”

Raditz then looks at his fist, he closes it and opens it again to look at his palm. “I felt there was a purpose to the fighting from there on. A reason to grow stronger and give it my all.”

You look at him. “Would you have sided with Kakarot if we had tried to conquer the Earth at some point?”

Raditz looks at you straight in the dead eye. “Yes. I confess, my prince. I would’ve.”

You close your eyes. “Thank you for your honesty.”

“You are deserving of my honesty and my service, more than any other person I know, Prince Vegeta. It takes a real man to realize that the path he took was the wrong one and change it so radically, even fighting against those who would doubt his new way.”

That struck a chord in you. “I…” You can’t find the words. “Thank you.”

He smiles a stupid smile that reminds you of Kakarot a little too much. “No problem, prince Vegeta.”

You decide to change the topic, you’re getting emotional, it’s a new feeling for you, and you hate it. “What about your arm? Perhaps Bulma could make a replacement arm for you.”

Raditz looks at his stump. “Honestly? I don’t mind it. It’s kind of a reminder for me…” He seems to realize something. “…I mean, I know it’s stupid to be lacking an arm as a reminder of old mistakes. Hehe.” He scratches the back of his head. “I guess some sort of bionic arm would be a good a reminder as the lack of one?”

You laugh. “You fool. You could’ve thought of that a year ago and you would have a bionic arm on you already.”

“You think Bulma would do it for me?”

“She’d do anything for us.” You reply.

“Yeah, guess so.” Raditz says.

“Anyhow, I’ve got to go. I want to see Turles as well, I haven’t spoken to him in a while.” You say as you get up from your seat.

“Of course.” Raditz also gets up. “I’m going to go and see Nappa myself. He seems a bit off today and him not coming to train was rather odd, he loves training.”

“Good idea, he has a somber mind today.” You reply. Raditz nods. You both leave his room and wave each other goodbye.

As you head towards Turles’ room, you remember that joke he made about conquering Earth. Not that you would put too much weight on a joke, but his general attitude is somewhat worrying. He seems somewhat friendly to the Briefs, but he seems to not care much about them otherwise.

You knock and his door swiftly opens, he looks at you from above, like Kakarot, he is a few centimeters higher than you but in him you saw that it was age that made him taller and stronger physically. “Prince Vegeta?” He says. “How come?”

“I’d like to speak with you for a moment. We haven’t had a chance to since… Well, since you joined us.” You say.

“Uh… Alright. Come on in.” He says, you enter and wait for him to seat himself. He takes one of the chairs in his room and you take the other.

“So uh.” Turles says awkwardly. “What’s up?”

You smile, a Saiyan with a power that rivals yours being this awkward. “How is your power level?”

“I’m still sticking at 17.000, which is good, I guess.” He says. “I haven’t big drops in the past year.”

“Perhaps the fabled fruit you ate had some effect in the end?”

“Maybe, I wouldn’t know.” He answers. “It’d feel awkward to go back down to 3.000 after so much time at this power level.”

“Right. Anyhow, I’ve got the feeling that you’re not fitting in as well as the rest of the crew. Do you believe in our objectives?”

It takes him a long while to answer to that. “Believe?” He says. “It’s hard to throw that word around, prince.” He pauses for a bit more. “I don’t believe in anything.”

You raise an eyebrow.

“Don’t get me wrong. This is all very noble and nice and whatever you might call it.” Turles continues. “But I’ve lived for a very long time, prince. Longer than you.”

“How old are you?” You’ve never given it much thought, but Turles is likely one of the oldest of the crew.

“I’m 47 years old.” He says. You open your eyes wide. “Yeah, I don’t look the part, I think it’s my hair and thin face, heh.”

He’s only 5 years younger than Nappa. “That’s a surprise.”

He shrugs. “Too young to serve in the Tuffle wars and gain distinction, like Nappa. By the time it was over I was stuck as a low class warrior and had to fight in the frontlines on other planets. Risky, deadly missions. Like Bardock, I’ve had a few close shaves with death. My power level jumped from 1.000 to 3.000.”

“You fought for planet Vegeta?”

“I guess? I fought for the reward, the money. Grand ideals seem…” He thinks the next word through. “…pointless to me.”

“You don’t believe, then?”

“There’s moments where I do believe. But I spent 6 years fighting for the Saiyans as a low class and my reward was almost nothing, just the thrill of the fight. Back then I did believe that I could become an elite someday, then the planet got turned into space dust.”

He returns to a normal position and looks at you, fidgeting. “Look the part, I guess? Pretend there’s a revenge coming. That a beautiful and fair and strong Super Saiyan will blow him to smithereens while everyone cheers at the back?” He follows that with another chuckle. “Fuck that, I told myself. And, in a way, though I don’t want to disrespect Calava’s father or Kalabash, I think I was right.”

He gets up, scratches his hair and looks out the window to the flowing stars. “So I became a pirate, gathered the crew you saw and eventually found the Fruit. Being a Saiyan was no longer a matter of pride, just a useful asset to my rise to power and fortune.”

He turns around and looks at you. “Then I found you. It’d be more apt to say that I happened to cross paths with you. Accompanying you for the past year has been… An experience. I’ve never seen Saiyans believing in someone this blindly, this faithfully. But…”

“But?”

“What if we fail, prince Vegeta? What if you die fighting?” He says. “I’ll believe in all of this then see it crumble with my own eyes.” He smiles a sad smile. “I know it’s useless to focus so much on the future, but I can’t help it.”

Is there something you’d like to say to Turles?

== (I was able to fit another update in before leaving) ==

“If we fail, then that’s it. Every day we run that risk in order to restore our race.” You close your eyes, deep in thought. “There’s a reason why we’re doing things differently now. The old ways failed us. The class system and the fact that we rested on our laurels. It all led to this.”

Turles looks at you, listening intently, it’s like he’s looking for something to convince him.

“We have to adapt and change, we have to be willing to see things differently and stop using brute force to get our way. A year ago I would’ve considered a battle against Frieza impossible unless I was somehow turned immortal. But now I see it differently. Our powers rise, our allies do so as well. With time, we can defeat him.”

A short silence follows where you think of your next words. “And if we failed, then we failed while fighting for our freedom, and those that remain will know that.”

Turles looks down.

“It’s better than dying while being pawns. It means that we lived for a purpose instead of merely existing as attack dogs for other masters or our own whims. We would be slaves to our own instincts no longer, that ego that pushes us to lie and boast and stand above others.”
You stand up. “And if I were to fall.” You say as you point at yourself. “I expect all survivors to carry on our new will. Our new Saiyan way. We will be proud warriors, as the other option is to be like animals, surviving day to day, a fate worse than death.”

“A new Saiyan way, huh?”

“Yes. Once I thought this was just about revenge. But to me it’s now about something more, it’s about giving our people a new future, a strong future, with goals to achieve, a united purpose.”

Turles smiles wanly. “You know what? You’re right. I don’t want to live like a dog. I don’t want to be some whatever pirate that steals breadcrumbs. If I die, I’m going to die like a real warrior, one whose story could be told and the listeners would want to be me, y’know?”

You nod and smile as well. “Exactly. That is what I want too. I will no longer be the foolish prince who served the very creature that slaughtered his race just to have a cozy life. I want to die an upstart, a rebel for a fair cause.”

Turles chuckles. “I guess… I guess it might be worth it. I’m an old man anyway, for a Saiyan. I’ve seen and lived enough.”

You wave the thought off. “You have much more to see and live through. I’ll make sure of that. We’ll do it together.”

He gets up and offers you his arm. You clasp it and he clasps yours. “Alright, fine. I’m in, prince Vegeta. Let’s fight and die together.”

“Aye.” You loosen your grip and he loosens his. “I’ll go and dine now. Want to come?”

“I am quite hungry.” Turles says. “Let’s go get some grub.”

Four weeks had passed without much of a hitch. Turles was showing up more and more to trainings, Raditz was also friendlier with you after your conversation. One afternoon, as the crew trained together, comms opened from the bridge from the only person who was not training at the time: Bulma.

The blue-haired scientist had a scouter-piloting device on her eye. A tool she had devised to control the ship remotely, which was a rather interesting addition to your arsenal. “All hands on deck, we are approaching Sadala Station.

The training stopped immediately, six Saiyans headed to the bridge to see what was coming. You see Kalabash being clearly nervous.

“20 years…” He says. “20 years since that terrible day, and here I am again.”

A grim sight appeared before your eyes, the station, which was built in the orbit of a lonely asteroid, was surrounded by bodies. There were hundreds of dead Frieza soldiers bearing armors and scouters from olden days, from back when you were just a child. Those weren’t what made this grim, it was the frozen bodies of dozens of Saiyans orbiting around the asteroid and station.

Kalabash grits his teeth and the rest of your crew furrows their brow, Bulma is clearly distraught.

“That’s terrible.” She says, taking her hands to her mouth. “I’m so sorry.”

Kalabash shakes his head. “They died like warriors, all of them. Like true Saiyans.” He continues.

You nod as does the rest of the crew. You gritted your teeth as well as you looked at each and every one of these Saiyans, some bearing recognizable haircuts and battle armors, others seemed to have shunned them completely for mere fabric as a way to repudiate their service to the Cold Empire. All of them had hurt, blank or terrified expressions as they floated around.

“We will give them a decent burial when we have the chance.” You say. “That’s the least that they deserve.”

Calava watches, cross-armed. Raditz puts his hand on the window as he looks on at the bodies passing by. Nappa leans on the wall and stops looking while Turles looks at them with a clenched fist.

Then the bridges comms ring. “Huh?” Bulma says. “We’re receiving a transmission?”

“What?” You say. Your surprise then mixes with disgust. Did someone dare take over the station? “Open them, don’t enable our video feed.” You say.

Bulma opens the comms and a male’s gravelly voice rings out. “Hey, unidentified ship passing by Rocomo Station. Get the hell out of here before I send my men out there.”

“Who are you?” You ask.

“Who am I?! Who the fuck are you?” The voice responds clearly irritated. “Get out of here before I blow you into the space dust.”

The comms call ends. Surprise among your crew subsides into anger. You reach range to sense energy signatures inside, some seem rather powerful, but it’s hard to individual power levels from this far.

“I say kill them all.” Turles proposes. Kalabash nods to that.

“Remember our new Saiyan way. We’ll dock and try to talk them into leaving the station.” Your group nods, though not eagerly. “Otherwise, they’re dead.”

“Dock?!” Bulma gets up from her seat. “They’ll blast us as soon as we get in there!”

“Not when they read our power levels, they won’t.” You reply. “They know we’d survive that.”

“Speak for yourself.” Bulma says. “I’d be dead.”

You could always use your cape to protect her, not that you’d tell her that. “Proceed with the maneuver.”

Bulma sighs and sits back down, engaging whatever thrusters she needs to proceed.

The comms open again. “Didn’t you hear us?!” The voice says. “I told you to leave!”

“And we’re coming in whether you want it or not.” You reply. “If you touch our ship, we’ll come out of the wreckage with a thirst for vengeance.”

The voice does not reply.

The ship arrives at one of the station’s loading bridges, attaching itself to it. You and your warriors stand right by the entrance, Bulma has stayed at the bridge.

The pressurized door to the outside opens and you see at the other end of the bridge a bunch of humanoids in pressure suits bearing conventional weapons. You see their clear surprise and hear their scouters blowing up from here.

You walk into the long tunnel that leads deeper into the base, as do your warriors behind you.

“Wh-what?!” You hear one of the voices yell. “What’s with their power levels?! Who did captain Zodd mess with?!”

“The rightful owners of this station.” You reply. “Now show us to this ‘captain’ of yours.”

“N-no way, he’d get us killed.” That humanoid says.

Another one beside him speaks. “Stop acting like an idiot!” He yells. “We can’t take them, blow up the loading bridge and let space take ‘em!”

You look behind you and see that Kalabash and Calava are quite terrified by the prospect. Turles, Nappa and Raditz have already had a few rides in space so they’re more confident. It’s not as if getting blow out into space is a good idea anyway, but surviving that would send out a message to these fools that you are not to be trifled with and you’re sure Kalabash and Calava would be fine.

>Let them blow it up with a snarky smile on your face, your survival will terrify them.

Oh wow, haven't been on this quest in a hot minute. Time to talk to Bulma about taking enough genetic samples to recreate the Saiyan Race
>>
You didn’t want to start this off with an attack, but seeing the rocketeer take aim makes it so you don’t think twice. You aim both of your fingers at the would be attacker and concentrate your energy to control the one with him.

“Wuh?!” The humanoid says. His own energy blows him up from the inside and he is utterly consumed.

Nappa and Turles smile, while Rasha, Olond, Raditz, Calava and Kalabash stand ready. The other humanoid is shocked and instantly turns around, opens the door and flees.

You start to walk down the landing bridge towards the door as Bulma opens comms. “I got an incoming call on the comms here.”

“Patch it through.” You say.

The earlier gravelly voice sounds again, this time quite more clam. “So.” He says. “Let’s toss aside the fact that you blew up one of my crew, not that he mattered anyway. I’d like to talk instead of getting feisty here.”

You check around the station to see if you can feel large power levels. There’s one at around 30.000, that is likely this ‘captain Zodd’ character. There are others who stand high with him, one at 15.000, two at 10.000 and another two around 5.000. The rest are weaklings, though you can sense some 1.000s.

“My offer is simple, you leave this place and you remain alive. You stay, and you die.” You say.

“Come now!” The voice says. “Let’s not get into extremes. Come meet me! I’m at the common room of this station. If it’s yours as you say, you know how to get here. My men won’t bother you.”

The comms cut off and you stand there and think.

“I’m guessing this captain Zodd guy is the one around 30.000.” Nappa says. “He’s tough, but we can take him and his most powerful.”

Rasha nods. “I can take the one at 15.000, he will think us equals and I will prove him wrong.”

Olond shakes his head. “Have we not been invited to negotiate? Perhaps it would be better to do that first.”

Raditz doesn’t seem to agree. “It’s best if we go in prepared. I’ll take one of the 10.000s, been looking for a good fight.”

Nappa claims the other 10.000, while Calava calls for the 5.000. Kalabash seems a little terrified, but he claims the other 5.000. Olond pats his back saying that he’ll support him.

You take a hand to your chin. “We cannot turn into Oozaru in the station, it would tear it apart.” You say. “We’ll have to trust our own strengths.”

Rasha nods again. “And most of your crew has no control of their Oozaru form, both Olond and I would be in grave danger.”

It seems one of your greatest assets is out of your hands for this fight. A shame.

“So, Vegeta.” Nappa says. “Are we giving these guys a chance? They seem like pirates to me, can’t trust their ilk.”

Turles chuckles and Nappa smiles at him.

“I’ll give their leader one last chance, let us negotiate.”

Your group nods and you walk down the hall along with them, you press the button that opens the door the humanoid escaped through and start to walk down halls while guided by Kalabash, who’s been looking around and remembering. “They’ve barely maintained the station.” He says. “It’s like it hasn’t changed since the attack except for their filth and trash.”

The station is quite run down, some doorways are collapsed or have broken doors that open and close erratically, the roof has plenty of holes exposing dangerous circuitry that sometimes sparks, the floor is no better and you sometimes even have to fly through chunks of broken down pathways.

You see Calava furious behind you. “How dare they treat my father’s old home like this?” She says. “It’s unforgivable. We should kill them all.”

“Calm down.” Raditz says, putting a hand to her shoulder. “Trust Vegeta, I’m sure he is as angry as you are.”

You could not compare your anger to Calava’s, truthfully, but to see a remnant of Saiyan power destroyed and unkempt to this degree, it doesn’t exactly bring happy thoughts.

There is eventually a large door leading to a central hall that seems to connect with all of the station’s modules. Well before reaching this hall, you felt the many signatures within it, likely hundreds, as do your comrades. The door opens and, as expected, there are hundreds of pirates inside, some hover around 500, others are at measly 100s with weaponry. Their armors are old Frieza army models as are their scouters, which they turn off as soon as you get past that door.

They eye you, clearly nervous. Their glares are threatening, but their postures are clearly defensive. Some are leaning against walls, cross-armed, while others sit around the ground. They’ve formed a corridor leading to a room down the hall whose great doors are wide open. There you see the ‘common’ room, which has been repurposed as a throne room for this captain Zodd who, surrounded by his retinue of strongest warriors, watches you from his throne made of random chunks of alloys, up a platform which is clearly some torn and haphazardly melted wall from whatever part of the station.

Zodd himself is a large creature, almost twice Nappa’s size. He bears two large horns and a third eye on his head and his hands have three clawed fingers. A tail swirls behind him with a dart at its end. He has a red skin and purple armor.

Right beside him you see his retinue, another alien with red skin and smaller horns on his head and deep black eyes stands at his right, that’s the 15.000. Then there’s the two 10.000s, two reptilian-looking aliens with spikes on their backs. Finally, the two 5.000s, smaller and rounder reptilian aliens with two swords attached to their backs.

You stand right before Zodd as does the rest of your crew, you look around yourself and see that the supposed pirates have formed a circle around you and eye you up most of all.

Turles and Nappa stand at your right and left, while behind you Calava and Kalabash look around nervously. Raditz, Rasha and Olond have your back.

“Well…” Zodd utters, you recognize his gravelly voice instantly. He takes a hand to scratch his chin. “So you are the ‘rightful owners’ of Rocomo station?” He says. “As far as I know, this station has had no owners before us, unless you’re implying that you’re…” He smiles a broad, devious smile. “…Saiyans.”

You cross your arms and look at Zodd right in the eyes, the gesture seems to make him smile even more.

“Of course you are! I know it. You’re the only humanoids with monkey tails across this galaxy.” He says. “I’m old enough to remember when your race was the terror of this galaxy. A high base power level and millions of you to send out and wipe out planets in the name of Frieza.”

You notice that he has not used the term ‘lord’. He seems to owe him no allegiance.

“If you don’t mind me saying, Saiyan, your race is going through some hard times, isn’t it? What’s a station like this to you? Isn’t the lives of your warriors worth more than a hunk of metal floating by an asteroid?” He continues. “Perhaps you’re here to pick up some of your… things from way back, no? Then take them and leave, and we will have no problems with one another.”

“Hmph.” You say. “Leave? And let you claim whatever bounty you may get from giving information on us to Frieza?” You are no fool, Frieza must be looking for you, trying to make sure you’re dead.

“It is true that King Cold’s son has put an even larger bounties on Saiyan heads now. I was wondering why this was…” Zodd continues with his low, demonic hum. “I see that there is a reason to do so. Your power levels are far above what I’d expect from run of the mill Saiyans.” He laughs. “He’s afraid! Afraid of Saiyans!”

The rest of the crew laughs along with him. You’re not quite sure if he’s mocking your strength, or if he’s merely mocking Frieza’s cowardice.

“Anyhow.” His voice shuts down all laughter. “I’ve no allegiance to Frieza or his money. He’d sooner kill me after providing the information than let me claim the bounty. You can remain at ease knowing that I’ll keep your little secret.”

Turles looks at you and speaks to your ear. “That is true, most pirates don’t deal with Frieza, prince.” He says. “They’re out of the Cold Empire jurisdiction, and Frieza hates that. He’s killed many who went to him to claim prizes, if the rumors are true.”

You nod and look at Zodd. “So what is your proposal?”

“As I’ve said.” Zodd responds. “You take whatever you came here for and leave. And we act as if nothing happened.” He stands up, showing his full figure to you. His powerful presence sends some of his own men to cower, while you can hear Kalabash grind his teeth behind you. “What say you?”

>”We came here to retake Sadala Station and not leave it to filthy pirates. Prepare to die.” You know that your warriors can take on these fools, the mooks will barely put a dent in any of you. [Attack Zodd and his crew]
>”How about a duel, Zodd? If I win, I take the station from you, if you win, you can keep me prisoner.” You’d rather not risk the lives of your warriors. Pirate captains can’t back down from such challenges, they’d look weak in front of their crew.
>”Fine, we will take what is ours from this station.” While you know you can take him on, it’s still risky, and you won’t risk the lives of your warriors for a derelict station lost in deep space.

>”Perhaps we can come to an agreement.” [Which? Continue negotiating with Zodd]
I was thinking something like offering him to become some sort of privateer? Taking Sadala Station and sending a message to the Sayans will draw Freeza's attention, so they could raid their supply lines while the Force is busy with us.
This can still be one of the ports that they come to dock to, but we will be the owners. Although they probably chose it because it's hidden, which would explain why they didn't repair or clean it.

Just thought a problem with my idea.
How would we pay them? The loot from Freeza Force is a good incentive, but they would be getting heat on their own group.
So unless we have some sort of guarantee of success, other than our big power level, he is more likely to disagree
>>

We could repair the station? Between Turles and Bulma this derelict place could become a proper base

I'd say either we try to recruit them with an offer of giving them an actual proper base and aiding in getting any remaining Saiyans gathered to us in exchange for a repaired base and keeping any spoils from any opponents they help us take down, OR, we just take the scouter we need and leave. No reason to kill them if they don't want to pledge their allegiance, as they'd still be a minor thorn in Frieza's side just with their regular antics.

Recruiting would be great but between the leader's pride and the fact that we're trying to rise above our history as mercenaries/pillagers they might not like the idea of working for us. Especially if it means they can't mug random travelers and villages and have to go after frieza's supposedly elite henchmen

>Write-in "We will take what we came for." You say, looking back at Calava and the others and giving a jerk of your head, "You must have quite the story as to how you ended up here of all places."
The truth is you want to get what you came for and get it clear of the fighting...before you challenge Zodd and his Right Hand to a two v two against you and Rasha for ownership of the station and leadership of his men. You just need to stall for time. No point in risking looking the means to finding other saiyans if the fight gets... rough.

> "I have use of this place," say it plainly, make your intent to retake the station clear, "I won't settle for less - I have amongst me those that could see this station risen far beyond its former capabilities, and it serves as an important stepping stone in my rebellion to Frieza." Pause dramatically befoee continuing, "But I also have no need to fight you and your men - I am a prince of Saiyans, and your people would be welcome to serve amongst me, and under you - I see there is no lost love to Lord Frieza from you either and would be glad to have another ally in my cause. However, if you can not stand the idea of existing as equals, I will gladly put you to heel, I will be clear though if you intend to make this a battle between us," lean forward, a glimmer of your Saiyan lust for battle shining through, "I will not kill you; no I will crush you, and force you to admit subservience to me in the process - I have much greater use for you and your men against Frieza than I do as corpses, so if a duel to establish dominance is what you desire, I will gladly take do so. !!! BLOGPOST WARNING !!!

>>5463361
Will to write is a tough bippy to handle when you're QMing. It's that moment where you're writing almost on standby mode and you start seeing everything you're writing down as complete trash that isn't entertaining even though it's likely the contrary.

For example: I started to feel these pirates are boring as fuck as I wrote them and I should've done something more interesting cuz the players won't like it, yet I can see that there is a clear interest from the players just from the raw effort put into the write-ins (thanks boys btw) and I know that I have more stuff prepared for them that makes them a thing beyond being a run of the mill pirate gang to beat around and to give a reason for Vegeta to increase his PL.

I find that the best solution for these moments is to just pause for a while and focus on other stuff so you can eventually look at this shit with a broader mindset rather than focusing on the negatives. I should've done that in 2019, 2020 and 2021 too but life got in the way and I said fuck it, gotta forget about this and focus on other stuff. Now that I'm in a much more stable moment of my life I'm finding it way easier to write and dedicate a proper amount of time to making a cool story about Vegeta along with anons in the internet.

I'll eventually make some google doc polls to see what anons are enjoying about the quest and where they wanna go from here. After years of playing tabletop with friends I've seen that it's a very cool thing to do and can provide some measure of direction as to what to focus on and what to leave as secondary stuff. Generally I tried to gauge this interest through the quest itself, like the posts asking who do you wanna focus on during downtime, whether or not you wanna have a cool tournament VS the earthlings, etc.

Example: I've noticed that most votes are driving the romantic stuff into the background (then again I enjoy writing Bulma and relationships in general so I do add a lot of that in without player input asking for it), thus I've decided to make Vegeta behave in a way that shows his complete focus in his objectives and how he has no will to handle a relationship right now. I've also noticed that there's a certain interest in Rasha and Olond beyond them being mere soldiers in the new Saiyan army, so I developed them a little more behind the scenes.

To put it in a poetic way I see QMing as a ship sailing the seas, the QM's the captain, your notes are your destination and the players are the wind, you gotta make sure the ship is sailing along with the wind even if that sometimes makes you drift away from the destination (or get a new destination entirely) but you also have to keep focus and always have a destination in mind as you make a path through the waves otherwise you're gonna wonder why you're even putting in the effort.

This is years of QMing and TTRPG speaking.

== INTERMISSION, around 30 years ago on Planet Vegeta ==

A Saiyan woman bearing regal armor sits near a crib with a babe in her hands. A vision of a time long past. She carefully caresses the babe’s cheek with an endearing look in her eyes. A Saiyan man, King Vegeta, enters the room through its autodoor.

“Are you done pampering the baby?” He says. “I tire of seeing you take him out of pod just to play around with it. He is not a toy.”

“He is the Prince of all Saiyans.” The woman replies as she looks to her husband. “I get it, Vegeta.”

“It doesn’t seem to me that you get it. Treating him as a child instead of a prince.”

“He is a babe.” She says, taking hold of your cheek. “He’ll have time to be a prince, let him be innocent for a while.”

“Hmph.” The King looks down on her wife. “I didn’t think one of your bloodline would act and feel as a non-combatant does.”

She looks at him with a furrowed brow, challenging her very King. “You’ve much to learn from my bloodline.”

“That’s quite a peculiar statement.” The King says as he turns around to leave. “Your kin were the ones who destroyed our ancient home.”

“Yet they were not the ones who took the knee in front of Cold.” She replies with venom in her voice.

The King stops in his tracks. “Then what would you have done?” He asks calmly. “Would you have defied him? Brought about the end of our race in that very instant?”

She does not reply.

“All I’ve done, I’ve done for the Saiyan race.” The King says. “What I ask of you to do, I ask of you for the sake of the Saiyan race. Vegeta does not need pampering.” He concludes.

“For the Saiyan race?” She says. “And you’ve had this heir with me for the Saiyan race as well? How much of it was truly for the Saiyan race, and how much was self-serving?” She continues. “Funny that ‘for the sake of the Saiyan race’, you had to become King and not another.”

“You speak too much and know too little, woman.” The King says.

She nods. “Perhaps. The future will tell us who was right.” She says as she returns the baby to the crib. “I only hope that you and I are there to see it, and I can say, ‘I told you so.’.” She taps him on the arm with a light punch that does not budge him. He smiles, a smile that he does his best to hide from her, but she knows. She always knows when the King smiles.

As they leave through the door, the King spares a look to his child. "You know, the child has your face."

"And your mighty hair." She replies, the two leave as the child sleeps soundly in velvet sheets.

Since I dropped out for a while and there wasn’t a proper vote, I’ve decided to do a mix of the various write-ins. It seems we’re all for subtly threatening Zodd as we propose a sort of treaty of cooperation. How will he react?

== UPDATE STARTS ==

You ponder for a while, for such a long while that you almost lose yourself in your thoughts. “Perhaps we shouldn’t simply take our things and leave.” You say. “In fact, I could have a use for you and your men, and my own could help rebuild this station.” You look around yourself. “It’s derelict and broken, but with repairs this place could likely serve as a real space station instead of a husk where you and your men can hole up. In exchange, I’d ask for your service, helping us raid the Cold Empire.” You then look at him, letting energy flare up around you. “Otherwise, we may have to fight.”

“Bwahahaha!” Zodd’s laugh echoes through his throne room as his crew follows up, laughter ringing throughout the station. He takes a finger to his eyes and wipes a tear away. “Oh, mister prince!” He says and slowly continues, adopting a more serious tone. “You are far, far too disconnected from the happenings of the galaxy, are you not? I guess it’s what happens when you are pampered by the supposed Emperor of the galaxy, is it not?”

You look at him defiantly. “What are you talking about?”

He shrugs. “Sure there is an Emperor of the Galaxy, that is Frieza and his Cold Empire. But he is not the only ruler among the stars, there are many.”

He hunches over and leaves his elbow on his knee and a hand to the other. “You see, I’m not an independent contractor.” He says. “I serve Queen Zar’Ann.”

“Zar’Ann?” You say. “I’ve never heard the name.”

“I have.” Says Turles, you look at him surprised. “Zar’Ann is of the same species as Zarbon, Frieza’s right hand man.”

“Hahahaha!” Zodd’s laughter echoes once more through the halls. “Zarbon! A real coward, that one. Went right under Frieza’s wing after he slaughtered his people.”

Turles continues. “She controls a whole web of pirate gangs holed up in stations and spaceships, though not so much planets.”

“Aye, planets are not subtle.” Zodd says. “When your number one rival can blow one up with a flick of the finger, you’re better off having smaller outposts scattered in the galaxy.”

Zodd then shakes his head. “Anyhow, when did this turn into a class on galactic politics?” He stands up and points at you. “I don’t take challenges lightly, ‘prince’. It wouldn’t do when I have to look good in front of all these idiots.”

You uncross your arms and clench your fists.

“I’m going to pummel you and make your little crew part of mine, willing or not. Bwahahaha!” He laughs. “Fight me!”

Turles, Nappa and Raditz take defensive stances by your group in case one of the members of Zodd’s crew gets any ideas. You slowly move away from them as you eye up Zodd, who descends from his throne.

“You’ve somehow gotten soft, prince.” Zodd says as he swaggers down the steps. “Thought your kind fought first and asked questions later.”

“I’m planning something far greater than what my forefathers have ever planned.” You respond. “Mindless rampages are no longer on my mind.”

“Sadly...” Zodd says with a snarky smile. “…The only thing that matters in this galaxy is strength, and when you’re strong, you take from the weak.”

He takes a stance. “As I’m about to show you!”

It seems you have no choice, you sigh and take a stance. It’s time to show these pirates who deserves this station most.

We're about to focus all over this pirate
>>
The pirate captain flies forward at a blistering speed, one unfitting his size. You slide your left foot back and put your right foot forward. He believes you’re about to block, but through the focus taught to you by Piccolo and Olond, it’s as if this fight is going in slow motion. He launches his huge fist towards you and you dodge perfectly, then his other fist, which you once again dodge. He launches a quick flurry of blows towards you, each of which you dodge.

Slowly, you come to understand how his energy works. It’s similar to many other humanoids’ though you can feel that it flows quite freely within him. It’s an instinctive flow, not a flow that belongs to some who has trained, but rather to someone who has been fighting all their life.

And he seems to notice the ease with which you dodge his blow, you feel a spike of energy fly through his tail and concentrate at the tip of his tail spike. A focused beam, similar to many others you’d seen.

“Feel the Devil’s Sting!” Zodd bellows, and the crew behind you quickly moves away from its path. A red beam focused into a thin, deadly line flies towards your face, you dodge it just barely and see it cut through the walls of the throne room, the pirates who had moved are terrified by the sight.

Zodd barely seems spent after minutes of continuous attacks. Your defense holds flawlessly, something that doesn’t seem to irritate him, on the contrary, he has a broad smile indicating amusement. “Interesting, prince. Perhaps you’ll put on a show for me and my men.”

You counteract that by throwing your palm forward. Zodd’s overconfidence seems to get the better of him as he tries to block it by surrounding him with an explosive wave. A flawed move, as each move done in the midst of your focus is one that tears through energy defenses, even if each punch and kick is slow and methodical. You feel the slight burn of his energy as you tear through some of its holes with your fists. A surprised Zodd dodges the first few blows, but the fourth hits a blocking arm, launching him back towards the stairs of his throne and tearing through them.

You resume your fighting pose with a measured motion. Zodd gets up slowly, only slightly bruised. His power level is rather high and you’ve been on the defensive this whole time, but you’ve learned much in this exchange.

“Interesting.” Zodd stretches the shoulder from his bruised arm. “You’re no ordinary Saiyan, are you? I fought a bunch of your kind before you got purged and you’re different.”

You smirk. “It’s called training, perhaps you should give it a try some day.”

“Of course.” Zodd says with his own devilish smile. “Too bad you won’t be alive to teach me!”
