/qst/ - Quests

>What is this?
"The Mystery Dungeons" is a text-based role-playing game created to expand on the setting created by the spinoff series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (particularly Explorers of Sky). Players isekai themselves into the world and become Pokémon, going on adventures with their newfound guildmates! SFW ONLY

Want to catch up on the story? Previous Threads:
https://rentry.org/TMD_LHG-megasummary

>I'd like to participate!
Always feel free to join in to see if it will stick with you. People come and go as they please, but there are plenty of regulars, including artists and writers. Outside of the main quests hosted here on /qst/ twice a week, a majority of side quests, lore, and role play happen almost all the time on the Element!

>How do I play?
First, fate must decide which Pokémon you become: https://randompokemon.com

Settings to Use: Generate 1, All Regions, All Types, all boxes checked (natures optional if you feel like giving your pokemon a little extra in characterization).
Take a screenshot so we know you probably weren't lying—admittedly while rerolling is frowned upon (although no one has any real issue with it)—after all, it's just something you and your conscious have to deal with!
Alternatively, if you're feeling much more truthful, go ahead and roll in the thread for your pokemon! (1d905). Some legendaries and mythicals have been dropped from the available roster. Assume that the box art legendaries are unavailable.

>Okay, now what?
Join the Element and read the sticky, it has the (almost) complete starter guide! It'll show you how to set up your character profile, create locations to play in, and record the lore of your exploits: https://matrix.to/#/#themysterydungeons:matrix.org. A majority of side quests, lore, and role play happen here! Otherwise, the two (usually) weekly sessions push the main stories along.

If you feel you might need help, feel free to ask!

Our next LIVE main adventures start on Tuesdays and Saturdays around 6:30PM or 9:00PM CST in this thread!

Namefag as your character, with your team and level!

Rolled 8 (1d20)

As the main group leaves the safety of the caravan to go searching for their missing friends, they quickly realize how deep into the forest they've ventured when a familiar feeling embraces them... the sensation of entering a Mystery Dungeon! Stepping into the depths of the oppressive forest, you actually very quickly encounter both Vee and Tintoretto, who have both miraculously wandered into the same room. Reunited but in a place particularly dangerous, you'll have to find your way out of here intact!

Up ahead, you notice that the route ahead splits in the three different paths. Behind you, you can hear branches snapping and tree trunks being torn asunder. You have it on good feeling you shouldn't stay to figure what that mysterious thing wants. It'll reach you by three turns.

Also, post your current levels of stress.

Your choices:
>The path on the right is going up but is particularly crowded by trees. Walking through it isn't going to be the best idea, but if you can traverse it, it'll be the fastest. [-0 if entered successfully. -2 if failed.]
>The middle path dips into a moonlit pond. If water wading isn't for you, this will definitely slow you down. [-1 if unfamiliar with water.]
>The path on the left remains on the same level as you and doesn't seem to provide any particularly obvious obstacles. But something might be lurking around the corner. [-??? if entered successfully.]

Together, Citrine and Sableye head left. Almost immediately, they find themselves in a den of sleeping ferals! Catching your breath and holding it tight, you need to be quiet about this… best not to break their Z's lest it causes further problems. You don't have the time to be worrying about mobs! Something's following you, after all!
>Try to be as fast as you can. Maybe you can get away before they wake up.
>Creep around and find out...!

Brock, Charles, and Kaku make note of how strange the forest looks. Even for a Mystery Dungeon, the trees don't seem to remain entirely coherent. With sporadic volatility, you can see them… shift. As if uncertain about where they're supposed to be.

Citrine makes every single possible effort to be the opposite of stealth. He is a giant boulder of a Pokémon and makes sure the entire world is aware of it. He stomps with considerable force and steps on everything that could possibly produce the loudest crunching sound. You can see the ferals visibly stirring awake from their naps. Sableye is not entirely subtle with his digging movements either, shoveling and cracking away at the earth with reckless abandon. In fact, the only one not causing a racket is Vee, who stands conspicuously in the corner.

Stufful brute forces their way past the trees, correcting everything that proves itself to be a clear obstacle. They make it with good time, appearing on the other side. Kaku swerves and weaves between the branches and trunks with surprising dexterity and fluidity, managing to find the spots where his otherwise larger frame wouldn't be able to make it through. Finally, Charles, with his gooey biology, slips between the bark as if he were a well-oiled gear.

Brock is the least fortunate, and in his energetic haste, consumes a face full of wood chips and leaves. It's not the most nutritious midnight snack, but now's not the time to be chowing down!

While Stufful, Charles, and Kaku have put good distance between the unknown, Citrine, Sable, and Vee are lagging behind considerably! Brock, specifically, is in the most danger. He can practically hear and smell the dreadful thing approaching.

Stufful, Charles, and Kaku arrive in another clearing. This time, there are only two paths.

Your choices:
>Thick bramble and thorns on the right. Now it doesn't look like it's too thick, so you could probably power your way through if you wanted. [Roll, damage received depending on success]
>On the left, lingering spores dance in the air. It's a mad dash to try and not fall victim to the unknown effects. It's also a good measure for how long you can hold your breath! [Roll, status effect received depdning on success]

Kaku makes the decision that the others can sort everything out. For him, it's best to save his own hide! Although he might just lose some of that right about now... as he crawls and slowly dances around, clumps of hair being caught up and torn off.
>He takes 175HP in damage!

Emerging on the other side, you can see the path ahead is elevated considerably. As you look around, you see nothing but brush sprouting massive, cupped leaves and not much else. There's no walking to safety on this one. You'll need to figure out a way to scale that safely.

Your choices:
>There's a frail looking plant here. It could use some water. Where might you get some?

Citrine makes a moderately paced getaway as the ferals start standing up and shaking away their drowsiness. They growl, groan, and hiss out in anger at having their nap interrupted. The brambles and thorns aren't even a consideration in Charles' mind as he goes flying through the obstacle, clearing it in a legendary amount of time. His less-than-solid body makes him a perfect candidate for simply slipping right through undisturbed, sharp objects completely ineffective on him. With the cheering from Stufful, it's almost like there was nothing there at all! Brock, emboldened by his friend's roaring success, uses the goo'd bramble and slips right through the tangle.

The three of them arrive at the other side to find Kaku struggling to lift a log. As they near the Grimmsnarl, they can practically hear the straining and possible crack of the spine. Ouch! Kaku might've just pulled a muscle. Or two.

Sableye's attempt at being a feral isn't quite working out. However, as he does this he nearly crashes next to the creature, which has caught up, The light doesn't seem to do it any favors. It almost looks like a dead forest was picked up by a muddy flash flood and given life. You can't even tell what kind of Pokémon this is, given the amount of leafy garbage sticking out of it.

A wish comes floating out above Sableye. It looks almost... demonic? It's red for some reason. The ferals look visibly repulsed by the odd sight.

They can feel the larger particles clump to their bodies, but they can't stop now!

Eventually, they flop to the other side, Vee out of breath and gulping down fresh lungfuls of air. Sable is just sore.

Citrine is not bothered in the slightest, having harnessed the powers of the bulldozer to flatten the pesky thorns into nothing but mulch. The path has been completely cleared, however, he's the only one taking it!

Stufful, Charles, and Kaku, working together to create a goo-hair-lasso rope to assist the others in their ascent to their level to escape the approaching monster, manage to get the others up in a good time, now no longer at the mercy of the strange beast.

Having just arrived in the same clearing as them, it stares at the fallen Brock. You can see the shifting, cantankerous amalgamation of the forest. In the moonlight, piles of branches and decaying bark spill out of the murky, mud-like shape. Kaku can tell pretty quickly it's some sort of Garbodor that must've traveled very far from where they normally go, considering all the souvenirs it managed to "pick up" along the way.

Still yet, Brock is in danger!

He taunts the beast (which doesn't understand a single thing he's speaking, mind you), before Sable promptly flings him up to be caught by the falling Stufful. The Grassy Garbodor groans out as it waves an arm in front of it to block the suddenly bright shower of draconic meteors filling the night sky. With everyone back on the ledge and the creature a safe distance away... it's time to bail!

Skedaddling to the camp, they quickly... find themselves sitting around the campfire?

They can see Mawile walking around, staring at each of you. "Why'd they choose to sleep outside?" she murmurs, asking no one. Scoffing, she sends a glance at the sleeping car. "What was the point of paying extra for that if they're just going to rough it out here...?"

As the group discusses their sudden departure from what must've been the dream world, they seem to lose themselves in the discussion of strange Pokémon solutions to maladies and other temperamental conditions. In the shadows of the forest nearby, a frustrated group of cloaked individuals groan their grievances, a plan foiled before it could reach fruition. They disperse into the dark. For now, Lost Hope and co. are left alone... to enjoy the rest of the early morning.

The caravan comes to a stop just off the main traveling road, arriving at the entrance to a town. As you observed your surroundings, you came to note that the place didn't really seem to qualify to be called something like that. Certainly smaller than a village, too. The best thing you could use to describe the quaint and quiet place would be a rest stop, at best.

There's a shop (not run by the Kecleons, surprisingly), a Pelipper mailing outpost, and a sizeable inn. Nearby that inn, tents are pitched up around it.

Mawile has gone off to the outpost, presumably to report the status of the expedition.

It's daytime now, and this settlement has a considerable hush around it. Not the most lively of places. The shop looks to be closed at the moment and the outpost is occupied by your acquaintance, so... the inn it will have to be.

Inside the inn is a simple affair, stone and wood holding up the two-story structure. Torches covered by globes provide light for darker areas, however, most of it is done through natural lighting.

>>5472826
Braixen? rolls up her map and puts it back in her bag, leaning against the seat. She clears her throat. "My colleagues thought it strange that I would be renouncing my life's work. All that I had done to search for a simple rumor. For a moment, I thought it, too. But then, upon further reflection, I knew it deep down this was my calling. My true meaning. Maybe when it happens, and I find it squashed, I may crawl back... but so far, I stride away from the stuffy tomes and crowded shelves. Here, I am free."

"All my experience and knowledge, I find it better used as a Spellblade." Delphox reveals her stick and ignites it in the fashion of a blade. "Wow..." Vee admires the cool fire stick sword. Listening to the Delphox's explanation and her peculiar style of combat has Vee's interest in its entirety.
"That's definitely an interesting story. No wonder I've never seen a Pokémon like you before." He declares.

"I wish I could do cool stuff like that. I find it more... efficient, for me, personally, to stay away from the the big flashy stuff some of my friends can do. Though, here YOU are, testing your limits! Maybe I could try something different sometime, ehehe!"

He looks confused for a second and leaves. He returns shortly after with a cup of water on the rocks. Literally. There are rocks and pebbles inside the cup. Kricketot offers it to Sable by leaving it in front of him.

Stern receives water, no rocks.

Stufful does a good job at not immediately succumbing to the effects of alcoholism, although one of the drinks happened to hit him a little harder. The Pomeg, most likely, given its sharp and spicy kick.

"Yes, from a studious scholar to a wandering ragamuffin magician. It is not glorious, but in order to find this Raikou, I deemed it a necessity to leave that behind." She extinguishes the flame-blade and returns the stick to her side. "You are an Eevee, I'm certain you are in no part limited in your potential."

Vee manages to catch a glimpse of a paper sticking out of the map. There is something very familiar about it.

Kricketot looks off to the side, perhaps looking in the direction of his room. "Well, ah, you see... I used to have this stringed instrument I would play here. Something happened and it got damaged. I don't know how to fix it, and the Sawsbuck who operates the store hasn't been around." He taps his claws together. "It's making me a bit anxious being unable to play, you see..."

Accepting the unofficial job request, the group is taken behind the bar and to a small room that makes up Kricketot's room. Heading inside, he retrieves the instrument in question. It's a leaf wrapped bag. Undoing the knot at the top, it's revealed that the damage was definitely beyond his expertise.

The strange wooden-banjo-string-instrument thing has many of its threads pulled apart and the base partially crushed. What a mess!

Where do you start? Kricketot is watching expectantly.

"Maybe you'd fit right in." He proposes.

"N-Not... Not like, dead, but-" He stutters to correct himself.
"Anyway... I met a few of them myself. They weren't, y'know, well," they were ghosts, "but I would assume that Raikou holds some allegiance to the same thing, maybe even the same mon they all seem to look up to, given the last rune. Zacian." He speaks the last name a little quieter, unsure of himself.

Together, Stufful and Bind fully inspect the instrument, not satisfied that what they can see is the true extent of the damage. Somehow, in his drunken stupor, the Lopunny is able to tap along the spine of the instrument with siginifcant accuracy. His resonating spirit with Spinda allows him to reveal the micro-fractures present in the material!

>>5472973
Kaku's attempt to repair the strings doesn't seem to work out too well. He manages to fix one of them, but the rest have been snapped too short to be strung back into place. Two of them would need to be replaced entirely.

Delphox sits still as she processes the information, along with ignoring the small slip-up in syntax from Vee. "I'm aware of a 'Zacian,' that I presumed to be a dead end in my search. Delphox is still seated at the table in the inn, having ended her conversation with the two, concluding that they were willing to help her with the goal of finding the elusive Raikou.

By the Pelipper Post Office, you can see a frustrated Mawile standing outside, scribbling into a notebook. Looks like something happened...

Meanwhile, at the back of the inn, you have the group attempting to repair the instrument. Bind's attempt at trying to take down the less-than-giving tree has resulted in producing, quite possibly, the most average looking replica one could have ever devised (by kicking it into existence!). Mudsdale nods in agreement.

Making an aggravated sigh, Mawile turns to Citrine and Vee. "SO! Turns out the bridge that takes us over the chasm has been destroyed by something or whatever. As far as I know, it's out, and we can't take that route. I've been talking with them to map out a detour, but they don't want to do it." It's looking closer to the original. Kricketot cannot help but look amazed by the effort produced by the group. "I... I you've fixed it!" he says, looking over the effort of the three. "I can do the strings and tuning myself but... you've all done it!"

"Of course, there's the option of making our way down to the chasm's riverbed, but they don't want to 'deviate' from our agreement because that means a surprise dungeon if we're unlucky. Or maybe an ambush of some kind."

She sits down on the Post Office's patio step. "Tried to reassure them it would be fine since we could handle it, but noooo..." You can see her scanning the area. "It would be so easy if Slurpuff didn't need to bring an entire guild's worth of food! Ugh."

Citrine turns to the Meganium and Mudsdale. He'd throw his arms up in the air... if he had any. "Alright, listen, you say detours are how 'bad things happen'? Our party's pretty adept at fighting off threats if that's what you're worried about. We could also pay you to sweeten the deal, if you don't believe we can protect the supplies well enough. I'm NOT up to cancelling this."

Vee also chimes in, rather unhelpfully if they are trying to convince the caravan to continue.
"I got a pretty good lead for us earlier. Me and Sable met this Delphox with a pretty interesting story, she agreed to come along with us, said she could use my knowledge." He shrugs. "She's been investigating something pretty big, probably related to that abandoned manor we found that one time, so ALL of our knowledge would be helpful."

"If you wanna find a way to keep things on-schedule, then fine, but I wanna see what's up. Not gonna go back on the deal I made with her, I'm really interested in seeing how things go," Vee expresses his investment in the story. Afterwards, he proposes his idea to everyone involved, caravan included. "We can see how things go with her, and when we get back the bridge'll be fixed and we can continue safely. It's the most efficient option."

>The group does need to come to an agreement as to what they would like to do.

Citrine speaks up to the Meganium and Mudsdale, outlining his convincingness. The two look wordlessly at each other, weighing his words in their heads.

Meganium looks back. "Listen, we took payment for this route. We'll hear out what your offer is, but don't expect us to be so gung-ho about it."

"Yup." Mudsdale nods. "Been doing this for a good portion of my life... even if you could protect us, a Mystery Dungeon on an unexplored path... shoot. That's a classic tale for needing a rescue, right there."

"Forgive the apprehension, you see. We stick to the well-worn paths out of habit. Keeps us safe and without needing any other muscle but our own."
>>
>>5477511
"I wouldn't do it either, it wasn't what you were paid to do." Vee nods. "That's why I like my idea >>5477495 best."
>>
>>5477495
"Can't this Delphox wait until we are done with the expedition? The Manor isn't going anywhere. And those spooks are pretty picky with who they let in..."
>>
>>5477511
"Sir... if you don't respond we'll have to bring you to a medical center..." says one Caterpie.
>>
>>5477495
"I was a bit out of it, for a while, you're saying someone's got info on the manor or something? And you've already made a deal? You could've talked to us about it first, at least, because this is a bit random."

>>5477511
"I'll chat with the others in terms of payment if we decide to detour. Who knows, maybe we can get across the bridge faster than we thought, as well."
>>
>>5477520
"Our expedition isn't going anywhere either, is it?"

>>5477522
"If you were there, you would've agreed to it, too. If you don't wanna come, that's alright, but there's no WAY I'm missing out on this!"
>>
>>5477469
>>5477511
"Hm, I think it's fine. Kaku's right, we can probably carry all the stuff ourselves if they don't want to! We can't force them."
>>
>>5477531
Kaku throws his hands in the air. "The freaking death cult will be gone if we take our sweet time! Last time we barely caught them, if we had been even a minute late...!" Kaku let's that hang.
>>5477533
"Well, that makes two of us! Citrine >>5477522 you get what I mean, right?" Kaku tries getting the majority on his side.
>>
>>5477537
"Yeah, I do. We don't want to put those two in jeopardy, either, and we can't force them. I'm fine moving our stuff by ourselves, although the Delphox bit does sound interesting. Maybe we can meet up with her and figure that out some other time.
>>
>>5477537
Vee doesn't look too bothered. "I guess so, but they've seemed pretty... dumb..? So far. I don't think we have anything to worry about, delaying our already-delayed caravan to make sure things go smoothly when we come back." Vee continues his side of the argument.
"What happens if we really do cross into another dungeon while we make a 'quick' detour? We all wandered into one without even realizing it not even a couple nights ago!" he counters. "Except this time, we'll have to protect two-or-three other mons while we find our way out because we got impatient."
"And then, if we decide to carry on by ourselves," he refers to Stern >>5477533 and Citrine's >>5477543 idea, "we'll be a billion times slower without the help of the caravan."

Vee scratches his head. "At least this way, it's safer, more efficient, and we for-sure get back on the road without any issue if we go with it."

>You can accept or deny.

"I'm convinced it is. Bridges don't just break in the middle like that, especially not something sturdy as this crossing." Mawile looks down to the ground in thought. "When I was surveying the damage, there's a path that I saw taking us down to where the river is. Just need to be careful not to get... swept away. There also might be a shallow-enough portion to wade through safely."

"No, over course not. You're thinking of..."

As the caravan reached the area where the bridge was meant to connect the two halves, you're quick to realize why exactly it was there in the first place and why a detour was necessary. The chasm howled with wind as if the forces of nature took personal affront, cleaving a scar upon the land. You could almost say it was a place where Groudon himself rose from beneath the crust of the Earth to wage war against his eternal foe.

In simpler words, it was massive!

Of course, your party wasn't to be deterred by the fact that such a troublesome thing was in your in way, daunting scale or not. Finding a narrow slope to traverse down to the river below, you keep to the narrow banks up until you hit a possible dead end. The road ahead is blocked by billowing plumes of toxic, rancid smoke. It smells of the deep earth. And rotting eggs.

You can see Meganium shy away from it, petals sticking closer to their body. If you are listening carefully, you can hear Swirlix retching in one of the wagons, now suddenly stripped of her once-insatiable diet. Mawile, not phased in the slightest, steps up. Her nose scrunches up, but she doesn't flinch as much.

"Ugh. Our path ahead is blocked by poison smoke. Fantastic," she reports, looking back at all of you. "There's no other ways around this... you'll probably have to try and look for a way to block this off. I recall seeing a cave opening some steps back."

Sable manages to find the actual entrance without too much trouble, tucked behind the fold of the chasm's walls. Bind and Citrine catch up without too much trouble, however they both manage to notice that the way back to this entrance is marked by orange-yellow drops on the stone path beneath them. Looking in, they can see a ramp safely leading into the dark and pungent depths of the strange cave.

Stern leaps right in, gripping the wall as he carves his way down by embedding a fist in the cavern's walls. Chips of white and bright yellow rain down on the group below as the Emboar crashes to the new ground floor unceremoniously. He only lightly touches the funny water.
>Stern takes 75HP damage!

Charles and Sableye decide upon the western path as the way to get things done. They are followed by the rest of the guild into this strange new area. As everyone slowly files their way in and carefully makes their way around the dangerous hazards, they note that the path you're on actually ends. Steam and smoke cover most of the new room, making it difficult to see any dangers lurking under its scathing cover, however, you can see the other side has two ancient chests, crusted over with calcification.

Behind the two chests is a massive door with a keyhole in the center. It seems this area is an optional section for loot!

You can choose to turn around or attempt to go forward.

While Charles moves through the low-lying steam, he is forced to stop as the ground literally stops existing. Good thing he kept an eye out, right? Covered by the steam is more of the caustic acid pools. Brock, who happens to be nearby, also can see the newly revealed lack-of-safe-floor. He can also see that up ahead, there are multiple platforms to cross, but they all look unstable! Up above, there are also curving stalactites that might make for safer swinging, but they're covered in the terrible smoke.

Somehow now supporting all his weight as he nearly completely crosses the entire acid bath, he sticks the landing onto one of the platforms. Only a little further now.

>>5485264
He flops onto one of the platforms elevated above the concealing steam instead of the acid. How lucky! However, it is... also tilting forward into the acid? Uh-oh. Looks like his weight has destabilized it.

>>5485261
>>5485265
Sableye is clearly not okay. Together, they only manage to carve out a smaller portion up ahead. From this point on, digging is impossible! There is no wall to dig from that would be safe enough. It seems the acid doesn't quite mix as it's dulled the Sableye's claws. And it might just do the same to Vee's paws! They have the option of trying to jump to an open platform or trying to monkey-bar the rest of the way.

"Money and cool rocks!" Vee shouts, and with that, it was all worth it. "I want that one." Vee points at the oil-spill stone. "Ooh, but this one's cool too!" He also admires the sky stone, looking into it deeply.

>Another looks to be the deep early sky contained within a smoothed rock

"You can take everything else, I don't really need the money." Vee thinks for a moment. "Unless..." He contemplates taking a large sum of it in secret and then giving it to Citrine to pay off his debt.

That'd be mean.
"Yeah, you can do what you want with it."

Satisfied with an embarassingly un-profficient display, he moves straight on to more tests of skill- lockpicking, with his stick!

Bind takes the stick, spinning it in his hands as he gently moves Kaku aside. Cramming the stick in the keyhole to pick it open, you hear him sweating and the wood creaking as he maneuvers with all the skill he has to keep it from breaking. The moments are tense as the bad smells make it hard to keep his concentration... but finally... there's a deep resounding click as the stick settles the teeth into place? The door slowly starts opening...

Proud and beaming, Bind turns around as if to say ta-da! His accomplishments, his skills... all for this moment...

It closes shut behind him.

Somewhere nearby, a certain goo dragon is holding a key... and that's all for now! We'll continue next time.

For want of a bite of goodwill from Team Skull and a burning desire for revenge, it seems Tintoretto was blessed with a map leading to Aegis Cave, of all place. The fate of the Golems preserving the secrecy of Thousand Arms' tools and knowledge was... somewhat unclear, so it may be worth everyone's time for a little house call- A little treasure on the side wouldn't be too shabby either! With curiosity in their hearts, The Lost Hope Guild ventures down past the mouth of the rune-laden cave...

Stepping down past an odd statue and staircase, you can tell something is immediately off off about this place. Even those sent here from from the real world- the sight of unown flooding the place isn't too shocking, but they're all lining the walls, completely still. Some of them look at you, but they don't seem too keen on investigating...

Looking ahead, Mistral, Kaku and Theo can see the frozen golem Regice laying supine in the corner of the room with the stairs leading ahead. It turns to look at you with a few unown, but it doesn't move either. He looks pretty scratched up...
You see one of his back scales slip out from under him, forcing him to roll over towards you. A cloud of dust reveals a fan trap, blowing it upward into a few golbat on the ceiling. On his way down, metal chips and jutting stones scrape at theo's body, striking plentifully enough to breach his fluff!...Well, the fluff he was donated. The substitute is shredded.
"D-dun... worry. We'll manage! We just gotta... keep going...! Cripes! Owowow..." Bind starts looking around. "We'll get off a super-awesome plan... sometime..."
>>5488225
Citrine's ray hits... someone! He hears a faint gasp, and the sound of something slumping. The bad vibes the staircase gives him wavers, but only a tad. The outline of a spindly pokemon holding spoons can be seen burned into the wall behind his strike.

An overdramatic gasp can be heard, and then silence. A few waves of malevolent pressure begins to climb Poli's back...

The swirling wave of ice catches on something invisible lining the whole chamber, before the winds carry them through to frost over... someone(s). Nothing can be seen explicitly, but frozen outlines of a humanoid pokemon's body holding some kind of trinket, and another frozen outline of a bulbous body with jester hattish protrusions fall out of the air.

Those in the steel chamber can hear a voice ringing out from underneath a big monolith in the center of the room. The chamber itself, is shaped identically to the other two with cases leading downward, but this one has this structure in the way. Regigigas is nearby, standing upright and punching aimlessly into nearby walls. He looks pretty beat up, too...
Wait, you're not gonna have to collect stones, to move on, are you?
"Those weenies are dead. DEAD! Gettem, Gettem! Wait, they're close. SAVE US! PLEEEeeeaaAAASE! I'm reliving a lotta stressful times down heeeEEEeeere! SAVE US! Nyeh!"

An unown bumps down into the floor behind kaku, revealing a poison barb trap. It shoots an array of toxic flechettes out, poisoning and KOing ten more unown.

>>5488283
Poli is badly poisoned. It tastes like a british biscuit one tried to salvage with copious amounts of fat and aged jam. Silly dungeon, biscuits cannot be salvaged. He also stinks of roguefort.

There's an indentation in which one can insert 5 stones, all in the shape of unown. Doesn't look too noteworthy otherwise, save the psychic pressure pooling desperately in an attempt to bring a misfortune upon you. The pesky voice speaks out again. from underneath you. "HelloooOOO? Hello, Hello!"

A very spur-of-the-moment idea is formed, and Vee runs over to where he recalls the sleeping invisible mon was. (I'm not sure if the one in question would be visible now)
He positions a Covet-infused paw high in the air above the sleeping target and begins the negotiation with the Alakazam.

You hear the grinding of stone as the door begins sliding in a different direction from when it was first "opened." It glides into the floor as if it was nothing more than a liquid, slowly consumed and erased. Before you know it, there was only the barest of suggestions that a door was here, blocking your path.

Bye Vee!
>>
>>5492804
A secret bazaar is home to all kinds of merchants.

...All of them.

There are 3 Odd Keystones lined up in an empty lot. There's also a seesaw behind them.
>>
>>5492804
Citrine is pleasantly surprised, deciding to hang back to hear what the Kirlia has to say and assuming she's the boss of this place (?)

>Talk with Kirlia
>>

>>5492810
>>5492812
>>5492827
Kirlia twirls in place on his pink rug, bowing to the newcomers. [Optional perception roll]. "Congratulations, and welcome to the Secret Bazaar!" he greets. "I understand you adventurers must be quite confused. You must've been in a dungeon just moments ago, right?"

"Well, that is the only answer I can expect!" He holds a hand to his chest. "I am Kirlia, leader of our troupe here. We first encountered this strange, admittedly plain, place that the dungeons occasionally connect to. We're not sure why it does this, but we'd though we would capitalize on it anyway! Please enjoy your time here and take a breather. Perhaps even check out some of our services?"

He points to the stairs that the group entered from. "If you walk back down, that will continue your journey, although in a safer place compared to when you first arrived!"

>>5492806
>>5492809
A Lickilicky is standing inside the tent, polishing some glass. He perks up at the sight of potential customer. "Bloo-bloo... Hallo there! Feeling parched? Thirthty, even? Thit down and have a thome drinkth. It'll perk you right up!"

You can see his sign, advertising 500P to temporarily boost one stat for the remainder of your adventure.
>A red drink, bubbling with raw power
>A blue drink, brewed with reinforcing vitamins
>A yellow drink, cured to clear your mind
>A pale drink, fortified with juices to shield your spirit
>A pink drink, steaming to sharpen your vision

>>5492807
Raising the flap to peer within, you can see lots of relaxing beds and plants. A light incense floats through the room. Confused, the Mime Jr. pats his hand instead. "Hee-hee?" they say. "Er, hello! This is Mime Jr.'s spa! Feeling worn out from your adventure? I'll bring you up back to health! Just 500P for my services, it'll wash the pain right away!"

>>5492817
Concealed within the tent and piles of random stuff, you can see a Swalot waiting. "Welcome! Might you be low on supplies? I've got some wonderful bags here for you to grab. But you'll never know what's quite inside! Try one and see for yourself?" He holds one up to Kaku. "Only 100P!"

>>5492814
Floating inside the yellow tent, a Shendinja rests. He notices Vee entering and straightens up. "I am Shedinja, the escape guide... if you would be willing to pay a meager fee, I can take you back home, no questions asked..." He gestures to a sign. 200P to leave the dangers of a dungeon!

Theodore claps his paws together, tilting from side to side in some silly dance. He lets out another mewl, "Bewear!"
"Awesome! And your place just connects to Mystery Dungeons like that? How strange! I'm Theodore, nice to meetcha'."
>>
>>5492837
"Ooh, and how do you do that?" Vee wonders. "Is there anything else you can do?" He's interested in this very straight-forward bug. Being to-the-point is a useful skill to have!
"I'm a little new here, sorry."
>>
>>5492837
Citrine accepts this explanation unquestioningly, and heads to the green tent, still covered in some acid burns and hoping for a solution.
>>
>>5492837
"500 for a top up? Whoa, that's real expensive mimebro. Too expensive for me, even if I'm this well dressed, heh heh!" Brock waves his hand dismissively "Maybe next time, bro. Take it easy." The Slaking exits the tent and looks around.
>>5492821
He chooses to approach the odd collection of stones and a seesaw. "Funky art you bros got here. What's it called?"
>>
>>5492837
"Oh, that's cool! How's that work?"
>>
>>5492849
The Odd Keystones suddenly shift around- it's a shell game.

...However, Spiritomb never showed which one they were in at the start, so it's all luck which one they're in.
>>
>>5492837
>A pink drink, steaming to sharpen your vision
"Ooh! This one...speaks to me. He slams down 500 and savors the beverage...assuming it doesn't taste like turmeric or something." Thanks, frere!

...Looking at the Lickilicky for a moment, he tips him with a chocolate swirl cookie.

Brock seems to consider the three stones, pointing his finger at each with careful consideration.
"Heh heh! This one, bro!"

With your awareness of the surroundings, you can tell Kirlia is trying his best not to cry or make an outburst from how all of you smell.

With short breaths, he answers. "I am not really sure how it all works. But, we had all been strangers before, you see. But somehow, all of us met up here all at once! A true coincidence, really, since dungeons don't normally let you find others. Without Shendinja, we wouldn't be able to come back here so frequently. He's quite good at what he does. As for the rocks, Swalot might have some... but it can be unreliable." He points to the red tent.

Kirlia twirls in place and leans over to Sableye, holding up a hand to cover his whisper. "...what is he saying, I don't understand him."

>>5492840
Swalot looks pleased, taking a bag and handing it Kaku all while accepting his payment. Unraveling your mystery bag... you get...
>1x Pecha Berry

>>5492841
>>5492854
"Thertainly." Lickilicky takes a small scoop of powders and a tiny glass, diluting it with the waterfall behind him. He holds it out to Tintoretto.

Lickilicky retrieves the coins slammed down and the cookie. With the tip, he takes extra care to make the drink. Soon enough, you're presented with the pink drink! Both mundane and exotic, flavors of root and dragonfruit, it's zesty and almost like medicine!
>Accuracy increased by 1 stage!

>>5492845
"It is a trade secret of mine... if I told anyone, they could do it too..." Shedinja replies. "Unfortunately, with this knowledge, I have burdened myself to eternally be the guide who helps those to escape their way back home. It is not a bad job title, in retrospect."

>>5492849
>>5492846
Mime Jr. nods. "It's not a cheap thing and not for everyone. Toodles!" They wave goodbye as Brock leaves.

And Citrine enters. "Hee-hee! You're looking quite roughed up, friend. Need a place to rest and rejuvenate? 500P for my full service to get you back up in adventuring shape!"
>>
>>5492861
In an immensely unsatisfying conclusion, the stones sink into the ground and Spiritomb suddenly pops out from the ground for a jumpscare.
"NEW MOURNERS!!!"
All roads lead to entropy. With them comes an obligatory merchant carpet that pops out. Spiritomb moves the seesaw on top of the carpet and begins seesawing away with teir Odd Keystone on one side and their "head" on the other.
"Welcome to our humble abode- the Epitaph. An island vacation sounds nice right about now."
Forbidden boxes, a strange type of treasure box are laid out.
"216 pokecoins a piece. You're with the Lost Hope guild, right?"
>>
>>5492864
Tintoretto drinks it, then stares at the shop keeper and walks out..
He looks for something elegant to gaze upon for a while.
>>
>>5492867
>You can also buy
Seesaw: 108 pokecoins.

Seesaw- It sees! It saws! What you see is what you saw- I mean get.

>Sable leans to Kirlia and whispers back
He's just like that, don't mind him. He tends to say things other pokemon say, so don't worry too much about it. Just say nice to meet you and move on...
>Sable returns to his neutral pose and tone
Thanks for the tip! So Shendinja found a way to get here on purpose?

Theodore looks down at himself. He's not sure if he crossed the acid pool, but decides that washing up might be a good idea. He waves at Kirlia before waddling off to bath in the waterfall.
>>
Bind eagerly downs the drink, before savoring it on his tongue. More life to it than expected! Seeing The Grifter and a seesaw set behind him, he (predictably) wanders over and begins hovering around the seesaw, sitting on it while staring at the Odd Keystones.
>>
>>5492864
"Hm, admirable, at least! If you didn't do it, who would?" Vee notes how useful of a service this Shedinja provides. "I'll keep that in mind for when I'm done. I've got things to check out here, but I'll come back when I'm ready. Might even get a few friends to come along."

Vee's ear flicks as he hears a certain ghost shout. "See ya!" Vee walks out, and over to where some of his friends are.

>>5492867
"Spiritomb?" Vee walks over, head tilted. "Haven't seen YOU in a while. How've ya been? Business as usual?" He greets his nearby friends as well, holding some Poké for Spiritomb's shop. Enough for three boxes.
>>
>>5492867
"Far out! Awesome trick bro! Can I get uhh... 10 boxes and the seesaw?" Brock immediately produces his purse
>>5492878
"You know this bro? He's a riot! Heh heh heh!"
>>
>>5492864
"Yeah, definitely. That seems fair if you can fix me up fully. Here." Citrine seems to think it doesn't cost that much even if it does, so he's a bit confused as to Brock leaving. He produces 500P.
>>
>>5492870
Hmm... I'm Interested In This... but I just don't know if I could go for it without a little test run, you know? I've seen all kinds hurt themselves on these, y'know?"
>>
>>5492864
"Oh, how convenient, I'll probably end up using this in the upcoming fight... Thanks!"
>>5492867
Kaku hears a familiar merchant and makes his way there. "Sealsman! Give me a dozen of your stronger boxes!"
>>
>>5492884
"Spiritomb's been around since... one of our first ever adventures as a guild. He just kinda showed up, got kicked around a little." Vee shrugs. "Haven't seen him much since our last journey to the Sea of Time and Temporal Tower."
>>
>>5492864
"Well, that's cool! I'm gonna go check out Spiritomb, then!"
He walks over.
>>5492867
"Hiya! I'll take one of those treasure boxes!"
>>
>>5492878
"We've had our hands full lately. Visitors, foraging... preparations."
Spiritomb smirks before contorting to multiple expressions as once and turning back to Vee.
"Self improvement in all things, we suppose! We even have a new pool now!"

>>5492884
>>5492888
>>5492890
Spiritomb exchanges Vee, Stern, Kaku, and Brock's coinage, throwing in a freebie to boot.
"You can thank your guildmates for that one. And be sure to buy often, we may have more favors like that if you do."
Spiritomb starts seesawing with Bind as he gets on. Bind learns that Spiritomb is... pretty heavy, but all of the weight seems to be in their Odd Keystone.
>>
Bind snaps at his leg, realizing too late that his bit machiavellian seesaw plan took too long to set up.
>>
>>5492892
"Tubular!" Brock moves to help move the seesaw up and down to practically force the pair on it to go up and down. Big mon, big strong.
>>
>>5492867
Theodore sees the friendly Prison Pebble and orders 10 loot boxes!
>>
>>5492871
He nods sagely, standing back up. "I see, I see." Kirlia shakes his head at the second response. "No, at least I don't think so. The first time here was accidental, I believe. Shedinja just had a knack for consistently locating this place. That's why we have the ability to set up a shop in here... the Secret Bazaar!"

Kirlia twirls.

>>5492874
The Bewear stands tall. But as they say, the harder he will fall! He trips over a rug and faceplants. Also, it seems the waterfall is too small for him to actually bathe in.

>>5492885
Accepting the payment, Mime Jr. leads him to a mat and gets to work. Coating Citrine in a strange paste and holding their hands out, a twinkling blast of lights swirl around the damaged rocky surface. "Mime Jr.'s healing beeeaaaam!" A bright flash of golden light overtakes the tent.

The paste covering Citrine is gone, and he has been completely restored in both mind, body, and spirit! "So how was it? Feeling great?" They look proud of their skills.
>HP, PP, and you're no longer hungry! Somehow. It feels like you ate a comfortable meal at the same time?
>>
>>5492903
Cool! I hope we can come back sometime, this is awesome. I'll see you around, Kirlia!
>Sable waves and makes for the red tent: location of rocks(?)
>>
>>5492903
Vee heads off to the Blue Tent after he finishes speaking with Spiritomb and the others.
"What's this place now?" He looks around, intrigued.
>>
>>5492903
Ripperoni. Rest in peperoni. Theodore tries to wash up anyway.
>>
>>5492894
>>5492898
The seesaw works great! It creaks slightly with each motion and it's nothing more complicated than a metal beam and the base it's attached to, but it gets the job done.
"Wow, this isn't as fun when you can float."
Spiritomb floats off of the seesaw and down onto their obligatory merchant carpet.

>>5492902
Unlucky or not, Spiritomb acknowledges the klutzy kuma and exchanges his pokecoins for Forbidden Boxes.
"Satisfied?"
>>
>>5492903
"Wow, I really am! How in the world do you do that? I hope it's not a trade secret or anything," Citrine says, looking much more content than he did a minute ago.
>>
>>5492906
Kirlia bows. "We look forward to your continued patronage!"

Sableye makes his way to the tent containing the massive pile of tied-up bags. "Welcome, come to peruse to build back your dwindling supplies? There's some wonderful, wonderful bags to grab right up! It's all a surprise inside. Want to try and see for yourself? Only 100P!" He gives his spiel.

>>5492909
>>5492910
"Hallo!" Lickilicky greets. "Want thomething to drink?"

"Hay!" Lickilicky waddles over and stops Theodore from doing so. "That'th for drinking, not wathing."

>>5492912
"It's all in Mime Jr.'s healing beam!" they say, holding their hands out as lights sparkle out. To put it bluntly, they probably don't entirely know it, either. It possibly might have something to do with their special paste, too.

"Hm. I think I'll go with yellow." His favorite color. Again. "Give me your tastiest yellow drink, please!" Vee offers 500P in exchange.

"So, how's Phil? Still dead I suppose? I hope he doesn't miss us too much!"

>>5492924
"Oh, Phil's doing good. We let Phil swipe a thing or two here and there and everything's pecha- we mean peachy. As thanks for helping out, you know?"

"Mm! Sometimes you need something a little different to keep you feeling fresh!" The light sweetness of it is more than enough to make up for some of the less satisfactory flavoring, making it an enjoyable experience.

"What about you two?" Vee asks about Kaku and Stufful... Bewear's drink. "When did you get so tall..?" Vee says quietly to himself.

Brock grabs his boxes and seesaw, carrying them easily with him to the exit of the bazaar.
"Heh heh, I bet this'll be real fun at the guild."
He sits down to wait for the others to get ready to leave, Slacking Off to restore his HP in preparation for what is to come.
>>
>>5492934
"Heheh, coming right up, fellow specter."
Spiritomb exchanges Sable's coinage and throws in a freebie. Also Theodore gets another freebie for some other reason? How strange.
>>
>>5492933
Seeing his trick mistimed to no effect but a minor convenience, Bind looks down at his freebie with pure disdain. He's just squinting at it silently. Is someone's tea boiling?

Theodore quiet likes the drink. He'd buy more- but he's run out of cash. Oh well.

He waddles over to hang out with his bros and Kaku.
>>
>>5492935
"Mime Jr. doesn't have a lot to give around, sorry..." They look to where the paste is currently being kept. "You also need to use it fast or it dries out!"

Spiritomb says in a singsong tone.

>>5492938
"Until next time."

>>5492940
Spiritomb smirks and, having exchanged with pretty much every Lost Hope member present, packs up their obligatory merchant carpet. For a second, it looks as though they're doing a matador motion with the carpet at Bind accompanied by the side-eye, but before there's time to process, they've vanished.

With Spiritomb a floor's distance away, the Forbidden Boxes open to reveal their contents in a sea of money-mauling special effects.

Done with the impromptu reveal of a small set of shops contained within the dungeon, the group goes back down the stairs, ready to take on the world! Immediately, they're hit once again with the pungent smell of the depths, their senses not used to the sudden back and forth.

Stepping off, they find themselves deposited back where they started, almost as if they had never left. They can see the tunnel they had just gone through, and then the other that contains the mysterious ferals roaming and prowling. If the western passage had nothing but loot, then the southern opening will be their upcoming challenge to allow the caravan to pass! Carefully making their way around the acidic pools, they look down. Massive spires and cracks produce equally expansive plumes of toxic fumes and gas, flooding the room and wherever it might exit. Shapes move around, unbothered... you'll need to figure out how to stop this, so your group can progress!

However, due to group request, the fight will be saved for later. See you next Saturday as we jump into the fight.

Back in Aegis Cave at another point in time, all except Vee have moved on to the cave's third tier, Registeel's domain. He's mashing away at random walls, looking for the the invisible psychic types holding him and the unown of the cave hostage with powerful Future Sights, while the monolith blocking the way further down to Regigigas stands uncontested...
A few unown deign to aid Registeel by firing hidden powers randomly around the room. The coalescing energies just so happen to create a pocket of heat and air pressure that explodes on one side of the room, instantly knocking out half of the unown in the process!
Don't mess with future sight. On that note,Mistral and Citrine can feel the pressure building on them! Looks like there are still attackers in the room.

Vee keeps his hold on the situation as best he can. "Yeah! I AM a fiend! I'm CRAZY! I'll eat your breakfast, too, if you don't quit it!" He continues to hold his paw in the air, ready to do a destructive, all-powerful, less-than-200-damage if things go wrong.

Charles' >>5495945 inquiry makes Vee wonder as well.
"I don't even remember why I'm here anymore!" They attacked him, at least. "And you tried to shave me!" The accusation is directed to the Alakazam, even if it wasn't him in specific who did it.

Peering into toxic halls, the group is about to encounter a serious amount of resistance. This has to be the origin of the problem they were sent in to deal with, if their currently fading sense of smell has anything to say about the sudden jump in stomach-churning fragrance. In the far distance, as they wave away the obscuring poison fog, it's clear to see that a series of natural vents are supplying the surface with their less-than-healthy payload.

The only problem? There are quite a couple of ferals separating them and their objective. They haven't noticed your group yet, giving you opportunity to plan your strike... you will have to fight them, though.

The closest three that you can immediately start battling are the Foongus, weird Vileplume, and weird Toxapex. The other three are too far away at the moment for you to get a good first strike on!

"Thebrosgot... snippysnappybro!" Brock stumbles towards Drapion with drunken steps, his mind on another headbutt and nothing on his mind.

Bind's Pinch bangle Opens up, glowing with a warm resolve.
"It was a DISTRACTION, dummy!"
Bind follows up Sable's launcher by leaping above Drapion, ready to fall upon him with a flurry of kicks in another close combat!
Had there been a crowd, they might be shouting such things as 'Happy Feet!', or 'WOMBO COMBO'.

103. Flashy, but it's really a pretty middling attack.

Drapion, now basically the sole feral in the room (it looks as if Toxapex won't be of any assistance), is beset on all sides by a combined attack from the group! Sableye strikes from the deep below (well, just a couple feet beneath the earth, actually), slamming his fist into its lower jaw as he escapes from the ground! Charles sweeps his tail under the bug, causing it to collapse to the floor just as the ailing Brock operates on autopilot and hits the Drapion on the side. Kaku gives the twitching bug a slap on the neck for good measure.

Bind appears from his distraction plush to deliver the final blows. He gleefully kicks and punches the feral, happily knowing he avoided eating a critical strike to the face.

The Drapion hisses out in pain as it vanishes, leaving the way to the toxic fume source unobstructed.

Satisified with knocking Castform out of the air with its attack, Toxapex closes up to protect itself, sharpening its outer body with a purple sheen and sharpened spikes.
>Toxapex used Baneful Bunker!
>>
>>5501103
Brock is wobbling, barely able to keep his balance "Ineedsomeairbros..." He starts heading towards the exit, completely unaware of the Toxapex.
>>
>>5501103
>Sable grabs Castform and moves to the exit
This is mine now.
>Sable elects to show mercy on the dome

With no more ferals blocking the way to their objective, they cross through quickly to try and limit the already excessive amount of gas they have been breathing in and to try and get a treatment for the poison burning through them.

Carefully plugging the natural vents and diverting others to flood the nearby cavern, they victoriously make their way out of the makeshift arena. The surface should be cleared up for the caravan to pass now.

Battle over! You win:
> +460EXP +2d20EXP

The spared Toxapex watches blankly the entire time, slowly following behind the group and watching them. It seems... motivated or interested? Do you allow it to continue following you?

Your choice:
