You are Ushi Walker, the half-Japanese/half-American wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas”, one of U.A. High's top first-year students, serial creep magnet, and one of the few people at the school before eight A.M. on a day without actual classes: the last day of the term.

For the lack of anyone or anything else grabbing your attention, you stand idle. Your gaze wanders over the exterior of the student entrance above while you rock back and forth in your boots.

It’s more an excuse to bask in the rays of the morning sun hitting your head and shoulders than some attempt to notice anything on the façade. Besides, just about the only thing you could attest to from your absent-minded inspection is it’s almost certainly a Japanese school…

Sure is strange to not have anything demanding your focus in the place that has done everything short of shanking you between the ribs to instill a sense of alertness in its hero-student body...

But only a moment later you snap your fingers and wince internally at yourself, realizing a sort-of obligation to fulfill that drives your idleness away and gets your boots a-stompin'.

You aren't just any student here to attend a boring compulsory end-of-semester ceremony. You are one of the class representatives of 1-A! You are supposed to be in the know, taking charge of duties in homeroom, and keeping your peers informed!… Or helping President Yaoyorozu to do so at the least.

Hell, being Vice President has been easy for the most part. Reminding everyone of test dates, homework deadlines, and enforcing the cleaning schedule is always just a mindless text away.

Right now though, you’ve just recalled you kind of dropped the ball when it comes to the “informed” bit after the incident at the mall; you chose to keep to yourself and rest with your family instead of checking-in or giving a single reassurance to your friends and classmates.

Having barely touched your phone, you have no way of knowing but you’d bet even Shoto probably did a better job of briefing both his and your well-being in the past 48 hours than you have…

Knowing the rest of 1-A, you are certain they wouldn’t begrudge you for leaving them in the dark. Not that you feel obligated to apologize to them for surviving a villain attack and taking some personal time either… But that doesn’t mean you can’t try to shore things up today!

Having arrived so early, it's the perfect opportunity to greet the whole lot and show them you are fine as can be given the circumstances.

The idea has you gripping your backpack’s straps and nearly skipping towards the classroom with purpose after changing to your inside shoes, eager to get there ahead of everyone and personally hail each of them as they walk in from the hallway.

The moment you slide the massive door open, you realize that you have already failed the first part of your plan.
>>
There, you see Iida sitting perfectly postured at his desk, his forearms and square fists propped at precise angles on its shiny and newly polished surface.

>"Wal-...Ushi, Good morning, I didn't expect to see you this early!" Your bespectacled friend jumps to his feet, his chair shooting back and crashing into Uraraka’s desk.

“...Mornin’ sugah! Not surprised you’re here ahead of time!” You comment with a small chuckle as you watch him not only roll his chair back to its proper place, but fidget with Uraraka's desk to be exactly how it was, if not more painstakingly parallel with the wall.

>"I like to think that it is at times like these, when there's no real requirement to be punctual or even attend, that you can see just how dedicated people are." Iida flaps his arm at the mostly deserted classroom before rigidly pointing at you. His other arm shoots up to his face only a moment later, the hand covering his face as he adjusts his glasses. "N-not to imply that I doubted your dedication, or that of any of our yet-to-arrive classmates. I'm… just pleasantly surprised to see you arrive well in advance, and in such high spirits after what happened."

"Well Ah took some time to rest, but Ah'm not one to mope 'bout it, ya know? ‘Specially when the only casualties were our time and a satchel. Ah'd take that over any real losses any day of the week." You shrug as you pass by to store your backpack. "It’s part of why Ah’m here ahead of time, to show everyone else Ah'm still dedicated too. All Might 'n' all’ve made it clear that if we are to be heroes, we need to be ready to deal with this kinda stuff and worse. Ah'd sure would’ve liked for the deadly encounters to have waited till after graduation, but at this point the horse has already fled the barn, so what can ya do?"

>"Not much." He answers, a somber look briefly overtaking his smile as you turn back to him after stowing your things away. You hazard to guess he’s thinking of his own brush with death at the hands of the Hero Killer. Has there ever been a first year class with so many safety incidents in U.A. history? You push that last thought aside as Iida carries on. "But you’re right, you seem to always bounce back with passion. Like after the incident at U.S.J.. Your party likely helped to keep any potential despair from taking root! Same for when you visited m- er, us at the hospital. As for this time, I'm glad to know you didn't do anything rash when facing the villain."

“And Ah’m glad Pony didn’t do anything likewise. Just walked up n’ had no idea who we were tusslin’ with. Things could’ve gone haywire in a hundred ‘n’ one different ways.” You shake your head, feeling your blood boil at the memory of how impotent you felt before wiping a stray lock of hair off your face. "Sure feels bad as all git out to see Shigaraki slip away. But we ain't pros yet. Who knows how many lives would have been… over, if we had tried? What stinks the most is he seemed to know that too…"

You look down at your still raised hand, at the now white clenched knuckles and sigh before giving it a shake to restore some blood flow.

"Ah reckon we should talk ‘bout somethin' more pleasant to start the week, right?" You quickly ask, making a conscious effort to put on a reassuring smile. That’s why you’re here and now, ain’t it? No need to let your weekend bring down your, or anyone else’s, mood again.

>"Right. It only makes sense you'd want to leave that topic behind. It's probably why you also didn't answer any texts yester-" Iida stops after taking in your strained smile. "Right, sorry. Something else then…"

He (and his hands) ponder for a moment and you are free to do the same, making a quick mental list. How is his brother? What did he do yesterday? What else does he have planned for the sum-

>"I suppose we could talk about the end of term?" Iida proposes, pointing at the teacher's podium with his whole arm after chopping the air between you. "I believe the class’s grades are ready to be published."

"Well they better be, it's the last day." You quip, surveying the front of the class. "Whatcha pointin' at?"

>"I… may have caught a glance of the final rankings next to the day's announcements as I walked past." He clarifies, turning the opposite way as if trying to give the lectern the cold shoulder.

"Cool, what did it say?" You tap your chin. "Did you improve on your rank from the midterms?"

>"I didn't read it!" IIda answers stiffly while standing as rigid as a plank to boot. "The contents of the teacher's desk are for the faculty and class representatives' eyes only and in the purview of academia, should be considered sacred until publicly posted!"

"Uh-huh." You nod as you nonchalantly walk up to the lectern and pick up said piece of paper. "Lucky for you, Ah, your Vice President, Ah'm here."

>"...Definitely." Your classmate seems to have a small coughing fit before finally turning back around and approaching you. "So then, what does it say?"

Well, damn.

"...Congratulations Iida. Ya broke into the top five!" You throw an arm around his neck to bring him in for a half-hug with genuine glee while showing his new rank to him.

Your friend stays silent and re-initiates plank-mode until you let go. And here you thought you were the one made of wood.

>"Uhm. W-well, that's another pleasant surprise… I didn't expect to do particularly well, having spent the latter half of the practical exam waist deep in a hole. Upside down, too." IIda visibly relaxes to something slightly more casual than military posture. "You must have climbed higher as well?"

"Hey now, Ah watched your bit from the surveillance… infirmary…tent thing that the teachers setup! You deserve it! You didn't give up and kept a cool enough head to help your teammate even when out of commision. Hell, when ya couldn't even see anythin'!" You praise him, not a single word undeserved. You follow it up with a small punch to the shoulder for good measure before continuing.
>>
"Ah… Ah sorta did the opposite and got taken out for it. Put mahself in harm’s way to win rather than help someone else get out of it like you. Ah reckon that is why Ah scored lower." You conclude before showing him your name on the paper at your new ranking, sixth, just below him. You guess you can’t technically consider yourself a “top-student” for the time being…

>"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that Ushi. Since you finished before we did, I had assumed it was an excellent passing effort. Was that the origin of your…sternum injury as well? " Iida asks after considering his words.

"Ah helped Uravity to detain Snipe and got shot a few times too many." You glance to the side and skip as many particulars about your bruising and Uraraka's landing as possible. Iida nods silently at you without asking for further detail. Thank God for that, the less people that know the specifics of your finale, the better. "’Hospitalized or likely dead' is the kinda result that docks some points off your grade, Ah bet."

>"Yes, I can see that being the case.” Iida continues to bob in sympathy. "I don't doubt you'll rise to the top again next term. Your dedication is admirable, after all. I would offer to assist to ensure you reach that goal, but your efforts during our class trials and other hurdles speak for themselves. So… Just do your best!"

“Thanks sugah, Ah'll try." You respond earnestly, slapping him on the back before taking the exam results and returning to your desk. You really appreciate Iida is always willing to back you up. His earnestness makes it easy to return the favor even when considering the clumsy and awkward turns of your friendship thus far.

"This'd be way easier if Sero was 'round." You mumble as you finally find some adhesive and use a lavish amount of it to stick the sheet on the wall besides the board and under the PSA screen.

Following a quick uniform and hair check, you stand by the class entryway with your reassuring smile at the ready and proceed to play the waiting game… which is made all the more quietly awkward by you not actually being alone. Iida, having retaken his seat and now boring a hole into the front board with his gaze, has no problem trouncing your statue impersonation with his own. Some sort of glare on the lenses of his glasses makes you unsure if he’s even blinking…

The minutes tick by and the tedium almost drives you to start shooting off questions just for the sake of making noise, like what exactly does Iida think about as he sits at his desk most mornings, waiting for someone to arrive. Thankfully, the door starts to slide open before you get that desperate.

"Howdy sugah!" You say looking up to your masked and tallest classmate. "Welcome to the last day of the term! Nothin' but relaxin' ahead! How ya feelin'?"

>"Well enough." Shoji answers as calmly as ever while one of his extra arms shifts into an eyestalk to look at the paper on the wall over your head. "And you?"

It's fairly weird to have a chat with someone keeping eye contact with you and reading something behind your back at once, but you try your best to show it doesn’t bother you. Besides, it's easy enough to focus on Shoji’s frame instead, his exposed biceps in particular. A tiny envious voice inside you resurfaces to carp about not being allowed to wear the school uniform sleeveless as well.

"Way better than Saturday, that's for sure!" You answer with a small chuckle as you side-step out of the way for him. "Classes are basically over and we’ve got a campin' trip on the horizon! Hard to stay down with so much to look forward to, right? That's not even mentionin' I-Expo!"

Whether it'd be excitement for the coming events or just an overwhelming desire to leave your drama-filled first term behind, you can’t say. But now that you are saying it aloud, you bounce a bit on your heels at the thought of spending some extended time away from school.

>"It'll be a great time to unwind." Shoji affirms, looking at you and the rankings for a moment longer before briefly patting you between the horns and walking away towards his desk. "Just hold out a little longer, right Walker?"

"H-hey!" You mutter and shake your head to get your hair back to its proper comfy fluff. You peer back at Shoji in time to see Iida looking stunned at his teammate as he walks past him.

“Congrats on also moving up a spot, Iida. We’ll be able to rise further next time.” A new mouth stalk praises your friend while the rest of the boy continues on by to stash his bag.

>“R-right. Same to you.”

The next arrival doesn't make you wait too long as a familiar heterochromatic face reveals itself at the door.

"Heya, sugah!" You rush Shoto as soon as you spot him, wringing that faint smile out of him in the process. Another victory. "Ah wouldn't've been surprised if ya skipped class today. Ain't nothin' but the ceremony and break plans scheduled."

>"Good morning, Ushi." He answers back, then stops to look at you for a moment. Not a head to toes scan or ogling, but a longer-than-brief gaze straight into your eyes. Or is there just something on your face? "Same could be said for you. I didn't expect to see you in such a good mood."

"Can't just simmer on it, ya know." You reply and lean closer while jokingly stick your tongue out. Just an inch of it. "It'd be a bit hypocritical of me, nyo~?"

While your playful remark gets you little more than a twitch at the side of his mouth, Shoto takes the moment as a chance to lean in closer too.

>"I looked up what we talked about. I'll tell you about it after school is over." He says softly, with more secrecy than you'd ever thought was necessary.

"Sure, we'll… catch up on the way to your house." You nod. You hadn’t given much thought to your training with Endeavor this past week, but you assume that it would continue right on into the summer. "With any luck, he won’t spoil the rest of the day."

>"Don't count on it, it's the one thing he's always been number one at." Shoto leaves you gawking as he moves away from your side and towards his desk.

"...That, was a joke!" You point out, grinning with pride.

>"A fact, rather." He corrects you. His tone is as flat as ever and yet it sounds just a bit cheeky to you.

"It can be both!" You shoot back with a short titter, emphasizing your point with a finger gun towards him. Seeing Shoto not troubled by his own villainous encounter, and even lighthearted, has you tickled pink. If you didn't have the rest of the class to greet, you probably would have spent a good while longer teasing him about his newly discovered sense of humor.

"Heya! Good mornin' and great news! We got the exam results! Come take a gander!" You greet your rosy-cheeked exam teammate next as she walks into the classroom by springing up in front of her from behind the door before pointing at the results sheet on the wall. "Ah hope you at least got your sunscreen at the mall, cuz it seems like we'll be gettin’ plenty of sun between I-Island and the camp trip, Ah tell ya h’wut!"

>"Uh… Good morning, too." Uraraka replies, clearly taken aback by your enthusiasm before sidling around you and pressing on to check her grades.

"Welcome to the top ten!" You tell her after a moment with the widest smile you can manage, throwing an arm over her shoulder and giving it a squeeze. "Ah knew you could do it.”

>"...Right, thank you." She says as she shimmies away from your embrace, then gives you what looks like either a deep nod or a shallow bow. "I couldn't have done it without you."

With such short pleasantries done, Uraraka turns about and makes way for her seat with a shake of her head, leaving you to watch her by the entrance. No doubt about it, her rather curt departure takes some wind out of your sails. You were a good teammate…weren’t you? As Uraraka passes him by, you see Iida glance between the two of you with his brow furrowed in thought.

You spend a couple seconds longer watching her put away her bag as you blindly shift backwards towards your waiting spot to greet new arrivals, knowing at worst you'd just bump into the sliding door eventually.

However, it's not your backside hitting the door that stops you, but a somewhat large hand on your shoulder.

>"You shouldn't back up into doorways, you'll trip on someone. Ribbit." Tsuyu advises, gently pressing you back into the classroom.

"Howdy sugah! G'mornin'!" You immediately greet her while taking a long step back in before pivoting around. "We got the results of the exams on the wall, and Ah'll tell ya now, ya did pretty dang great so I can't wait to go to the resort, and then go campin' with y'all, and rest a while, and y-"

>"I think you should breathe." Tsuyu interrupts you without raising her voice.

You blink, nod, and then exhale. You don't trust your uniform’s buttons with real deep breaths.

>"Are you really that excited to go camping? Or are you trying to leave something behind?" Tsuyu asks, her large eyes looking straight into your own, just like Shoto before her.

You think about her question a second, then sigh.

"...Both." You answer, letting your smile falter, eyes lower, and shoulders droop a bit. It’s been a long while since you’ve gotten to sleep under the stars, but you don't want to dwell on the incident even more so. You’ll take just about any excuse to not think about the still-at-large threat to your and your friends lives… But Tsuyu has got a point. Maybe you shouldn-

>"Is it working?" She asks with a slight tilt of her head, taking you out of your darkening thoughts.

"...Say again?" You ask in kind, puzzled.

>"Not thinking about it." She continues. "Does it make you feel better?"

"Y-yeah, Ah think?" You admit, scratching the back of your head, a little unnerved by her head-on questions.

>"Then keep doing it. Ribbit." She says, tapping her chin. "It's good to mull things over and consider how they could have gone differently, but you don't have to make it your new walk of life, I think. Just take what you can learn from it and go, if that makes sense."

Taken off guard, you just silently stare back at her.

>"And if you want to talk about it later instead, I'm always available." She continues with a wide smile. "I've been told I'm a good listener. If you don't, that's fine too."

"Thanks, Ah'll keep that in mind." You reply, gingerly being pulled by the much shorter girl into a hug. You were hardly expecting any of that. Don’t have to be a genius to tell Tsuyu’s got a good head on her shoulders but you didn’t think you were about to receive some sound motherly wisdom this morning. It makes you wonder what else you’d find out if you hung out with her more than just around school.

Your embrace lasts only a moment, quickly letting her go after she gives a couple pats on your back.

>"Even if you feel responsible, you don't need to do it alone, Ribbit." Tsuyu finishes before walking over to her seat. You glimpse Shoto giving a slight but noticeable nod to her from the corner of your eye. Seeing it from across the room, it’s about as emphatic a gesture as you’d ever expect from him.

You don’t get any time to ask him what he meant by it though. Your next friend, or friends rather, are the next pair to appear in class with Jiro slamming the sliding door open, causing it to bounce loudly against the rail's end.

>"You know it's not the door's fault, Jiro." Momo remarks, watching the door slowly close itself after entering right behind the grumpy girl.

>"Yeah, but it is part of the school and it's better than taking it out on someone, so screw that door." Kyoka replies while looking back over her shoulder towards the class President and not realizing she’s about to run into the Vice President.

"Mornin' sugah!" You greet her and announce yourself while extending a hand to her shoulder before she rams into your chest. "You seem a lot more fussed than Ah thought anyone would be for the last day of term."

>"Oh, hey Ushi, good to see you’re well." Kyoka greets you back before turning around with a shrug. "I'm just… not even ‘upset’, annoyed that we have to come in at all today more than anything. We've all gone through these throughout middle school: A few announcements, an overly long ceremony, then we more or less twiddle our thumbs waiting to be allowed to go home. It’s such a waste of time! They are literally fighting us 2-on-1 one day in order to prove ourselves and then babying us like this the next?! And why even have it on a Monday? What was wrong with last Friday?! We should just stay home and they can send an e-mail, you know?"

>"And I was telling her, despite the reputed formalities, we don't know what awaits us at the end of our first term here at U.A.. As we are all well aware of by now, the school has made it a habit to spring surprises on its students." Momo explains as she takes her time approaching you.

>"Right, sure. Can't wait for the principal's speech to be interrupted by a sudden robot uprising. Because the ‘rational deceptions’ we’ve had thus far totally need an encore." Kyoka retorts with a roll of her eyes.

"Nah, they've done robots already. Maybe the auditorium floor'll collapse for an on the fly underground rescue trial?" You can't help but agree with how Kyoka’s feeling and punctuate your sarcastic suggestion with a dry snicker.

You turn your attention towards Momo, expecting her to stand up for U.A. again in some way. Instead, you find her eyes darting up to make contact with your own before dropping back down to her hands with her fingers steepled over her midrift. You know her well enough now to tell her mind is clearly racing, but she continues to stay mum as she stands apart from you and Kyoka.

"And what's on your mind, sugah?" You ask her after a moment, tilting your head a bit. "Not too keen on bein' here either?"

>"Oh, no, it's not that. It’s just now that we’re reunited, I'm at a loss for words." She says, shaking her head a bit as you look on in confusion. "I can't quite verbalize how… agitated I was that in a shopping center full of heroes-to-be that a villain managed to sneak in, attack… one of us, and then escape. Or how a part of me is still nervous that it could happen again? To one of our classmates, I mean… Also what I’m trying to say is that…well I am comforted to see you well after all of that.”

Through it all, Momo’s expression shifted to match her words, from the briefest of scowls to an apprehensive glance into the distance, finishing with her typical warm smile as she looks directly at you. Although her eyes betray that a bit of apprehension remains.

"Well, don’t fret sugah, ‘cuz Ah feel the same way.” You immediately reach out and rub her arm in reassurance.

>”Y-you do?!” Momo squeaks uncharacteristically.

"Yes Ma’am, was just about ready to float upstream after what happened there. But Ah have a bit of a plan for the next villain that shows up." You cheekily say before loudly cracking your knuckles. "We'll get 'em next time."

>"I guess that's the good thing about well-known villains, no qualms about mauling them on-sight... if you can." Kyoka ponders out loud, clearly amused at your pledge before turning to the class President. Frustratingly, Momo’s unsettled expression remains. "She’s right though, remember the stuff we went through at USJ? Between the two of you, there’s not many problems that can’t be cracked, especially if you've had time to think about it."

>"Well, that's who I aspire to be as Creati, a hero able to solve every kind of problem… though I'll readily admit I don’t think I'm quite there yet. Recent events only prove that for me." Momo replies while returning to avoiding eye contact, but at least looking a tad more cheerful, tapping the tips of her still-steepled fingers together. "We all have much to learn yet, after all."

"Oh, right!" You exclaim with a snap of your fingers before pointing towards the wall. "Speaking of learnin’, “Not quite there yet”? Hah! Don't snap mah garters sugah, the exams results over yonder tell a much different tale, Yaomomo!"

>"Garters?... Huh. I would have thought Mr. Aizawa would have us read it during homeroom." Momo ponders aloud while looking much more lively as Kyoka stepped forward and traced her finger down the ranks to the same row where she was prior to the end of term, eighth, before shrugging her shoulders.

"Ah took the liberty of puttin’ it up for everyone to read as they come in, Ah'm sure he'll see that rationally, it’s faster this way." You point out half-mockingly. "After all, he wouldn't have left it in the classroom if y'all weren't meant to see it, right?"

>"That does sound in line with Mr. Aizawa's rationale." Momo concedes, then turns towards your petite friend. "Hopefully the results satisfy you as well, Jiro."

>"Meh. I am just happy that I didn’t faceplant on the math portion of the written test. Improved on my grade for it, in fact. Thanks again for the help with that by the way." Kyoka tries to sound casual in her appreciation before stepping aside for your pony-tailed classmate to examine the results for herself.

You spend a minute watching as Momo goes over the list with a smile and humming a tune. Hearing Kyoka’s gratitude was apparently just enough to re-reveal that bubbly side of hers, and seeing her exam grades cementing her position at the top of the class only seems to make her all the more giddy. It’s really endearing to watch, but you hold yourself back from giving her a big hug and interrupting.

With marks like that, it's unlikely anyone will even challenge Momo for the rest of the year.

You notice that Momo’s brow furrows as she inspects the other results of those she tutored with your help intensely. However, you don't have time to follow up with her on it as your nose picks up a familiar perfume.
>>
There's a number of aromas one can encounter in a school full of teenagers. From a number of body sprays to some much worse and more bodily based ones. Most of the time, you succeed in putting them out of your mind. But in 1-A there’s one in particular you try to at least keep tabs on. It's a small thing, but its wearer seems to really appreciate it when people greet her first. And that’s what you’re doing today!

"Howdy, Toru!" You exclaim as you turn to face her floating uniform rounding the now-open door into the classroom. "G'mornin'! Ready to kick back and get some <R’nR> campin'?"

>"Mornin' Ushi!" She answers in kind, energetically imitating your drawl as her sleeves shake from side to side. It’s the only real way you can tell she's gesturing at you. "'n' you betcha Ah do, whatever ‘RnR’ means!"

You smile while rolling your eyes as Toru walks, or perhaps skips, towards you and the other girls. It’s hard to tell when your only anchor to track her by is the floating uniform bouncing forward. You feel a bit hypocritical for that.

>"Jokes aside, I'm glad you are okay. A lot of us were worried you didn’t want to even come out of your room after that scare." Toru admits as she hugs you from the side. At least, as much as she can. Seems like she has some of the same difficulty with the movement as you’d typically have with Momo. "It'd be a shame to have you miss out on the I-Expo, or even the camping trip!"

"Nah, Ah wouldn't miss 'em for anythin’." You reply, returning the hug a bit tighter before breaking it up. "Honestly, getting away from U.A. for a bit can only do me good, right?"

>"Great, because we'll need our American guide at I-Island to steer the class 1-A caravan!"

“...Caravan?” You repeat back, giving your other two friends a questioning look. Neither seem to know what the invisible girl is referring to. There are many things to be seen at the marvel of engineering that's I-Island, but you are pretty sure the number of pack animals and horse-drawn vehicles will be bordering zero…

>"Didn’t you read my texts?..." She softly asks, sighing before continuing with her regular enthusiasm. "Still and all! You might have noticed our class get-togethers have failed so far, but this time it can't fail! It's a fortress island there! We won’t be, can’t be, split up or attacked! The boys have promised to buy-in too and we can all find and get together with our phones!" With that, each of the girls on either side of you put it together and nod along. Seems like you missed out on that development too by being temporarily off the grid.

"So ya’ll want me to play tour guide? Oh me, oh my what a honor... Ah better bring my best vest then!~. Would Ah also get a commerative hat?~" You jokingly ask, bringing your hand to your brow and motioning as if fixing the brim of a cap.

>"Uh… I didn't plan-" Toru starts, sounding a little bit nervous.

>"Sure!" Momo chipperly interrupts.

“Not what Ah-now wait a minute, why wouldn’t it be you, sugah? Ah thought you had been there before, and ah happen to know you look just as cute in a hat! ‘Sides, isn’t this exactly what our English classes are for?” You turn to the President and crank your head sideways, propping your hands on your hips in feigned indignation.

In spite of your attempt to show you are just teasing her, Momo freezes up as much as Iida did earlier. You watch as she stops to think for a couple seconds, looking at you, the floor again, then at Toru's general direction before explaining as articulate as ever. It alarms you momentarily just how slow a response it was compared to Momo’s usual composed and attentive bearing.

>“Fashion aside… I admit you would be of more help than I. Despite my prior visits, my time at the island has been highly centralized, only attending dinners and other affairs within or near the Orthax event center. So preoccupied with the schedule there, I’m not even certain if there’s any beaches present.” She gives an unusual small laugh at the end that oddly reminds you of Denki.

>"No beaches?" Toru blurts out, her shirt's cuff floating towards where her face should be, making you think she might be pressing her cheek with her hand. "How will I work on my tan before camp then?"

How…

>"You were planning on tanning at the beach?" Kyoka asks, surely about to bring up the same point that popped up in your head. "Before checking the beach was even real? …Maybe you really do need a guide for this."

You are about to point out the obvious, that you could just look it up on your phone before you notice the whole group looking at you, waiting.

Life came at me fast all of the sudden, but I never intended to drop this quest.

This won’t be scheduled until the real expo starts and all our classmates arrive, so we’ll have the first day (the early access day with the villain simulator, ballroom dance, and such) to spend with Pony, Pa, Momma, and maybe Mei a little if she’s not immediately off schmoozing.

And, as long as nothing dramatic happens like a villain attack, we’ll have plenty of time on the rest of the other days of the expo proper to do whatever too.

"In that case, Y'all can count on me to lead the way! As for talkin’, you're on yer own. <Some folks have a hard time with the accent over yonder too.>" You explain with a small giggle.

>"We can work with that." Toru giggles along. "And if we can't, being lost out of town with your herd of friends is far better than doing it alone. Like an adventure all of its own!"

With a pat on the back you usher the unseen girl to her seat as Kyoka and Momo also make their way to their own.

>"What kind of hat would look the best on her…" You hear Momo muse as she walks away.

>"You really gotta ask?" Kyoka asks back before leaving the limited range of your hearing.

Despite Toru’s inadvertent reminder that you did not read anyone’s texts conjuring some guilt, you are only more jazzed to have even more summer plans. What could go wrong, being a tour guide? It’s not even life-threatening!

…Or so you think. It'd be the first time you are doing this kind of thing. Back home, you'd be keeping tabs on detours and escape routes if you had to be alone with kids your age, never mind the idea of voluntarily leading them around.

Putting away the stray thought to look up crime statistics for I-Island for later, you dig your phone out of your pocket and instead sift through the dozens of unread notifications you've accrued until you finally arrive at Toru’s messages. You begin reading and taking note of her rather rambly plans to look out for all sorts of tourist activities on I-Island while keeping one ear open to the sound of more classmates approaching 1-A.

It's hard not to notice the next arrivals early on as they seem to be having a shouting match in the hallway. A rather one-sided bout, but it still counts.

>"I TOLD YOU TO STOP FOLLOWING ME!" Bakugo… Yells? Growls? Hisses? You aren't quite sure of what he's doing, as he seems to be trying to control his volume without ditching any of the rage.

>"For the last time, we are just going to the same place!" Deku argues back, with more frustration than anger or fear in his voice.

>"THEN STAY AWAY FROM ME! YOU'VE BEEN UP MY ASS THE WHOLE WAY!"

>"W-we are neighbors! We have to take the same train! It's the only one that comes this way!"

Then the door slams open for the second time that morning-

-And immediately bounces back, almost striking Bakugo in the face as he barges into the classroom. Sadly, his quick reflexes block it and rob you of what would have been the slapstick highlight of your school day.

Right behind him, and treating the poor door more like an injured animal than the piece school property that it is, Deku enters 1-A as well.

You quickly take a step back, intending on letting the quarreling boys carry on unimpeded and not get involved unless it really escalates. It might be part of your duties to keep an orderly classroom, but you still feel hesitant to mix it up with them since the last time that involved Uraraka.

However, both Bakugo and Deku pipe down when they realize that everyone present was staring at them expectantly. Some, like Momo and Iida, look about ready to come and give a piece of their minds had they not suddenly stopped on their own.

"H-howdy!" You greet them, stumbling on your words as you realize your goal for the morning can continue. "Glad to see y'all so…energetic after this um, heck of a weekend. Wanna check your grades?"
>>
>"Lose the smoke screen Walker, you were the one that almost bit it, not me." Bakugo remarks, briefly glancing over at the overly-taped paper on the wall before continuing to glare at you. It’s not nearly as ornery a response as you’re used to, especially for a Monday morning.

Peering back at him now, Bakugo’s whole demeanor seems to follow suit, especially compared to the intensity he emanated in front of your house yesterday. The prickly slouch to his shoulders seems to have devolved into a normal one. While he may still be staring daggers at you, the daggers seem a tad dull in your opinion. Bakugo has never been one for adhering to the dress code, but today he is full-on bedraggled, as if he had slept in his uniform. One word floats to the top of your mind for the drab state standing in front of you: tired.

"Well, yo-" You start, about to remind him of his and Shoto's own misadventures with that creepy villain and his camera when you notice the familiar spark flare back up in Bakugo’s eyes. Recalling his outbursts the prior day, it is with a bit of pride that you pivot in time before the fireworks restart. "...you'd be right. Can't do much but train so we ain't taken off guard next time.

>"You’d better." Bakugo sneers after a moment before finally donning a cocky smile. "Even if you’re too much of a pain in the ass to end up as jerky in some alley now, you’re still just a footnote in my book. Maybe you won’t be when you’re at your best, Walker. Even then, it won’t be a fluke when I end up topping you."

"Oh, don't worry sugah, Ah'd be flattered to write that last part for your book mahself in case it eva' happens." You shoot back with your best practiced smug look and hands on your hips. You’re not about to completely appease him this morning. "Since, you know, it would be a miracle."

You aren't quite sure what to make out of his snort. Stifled laughter is not what you have come to expect from Bakugo.

>"Whatever." He says, heading for his seat. "You survived. Didn't go and die like a chump on me. That’s the important bit for now."

"...So not gonna even check your grades then?" You ask after him, a bit surprised.“Not gonna rub it in my face that you beat mah rank?”

>"I could see the rankings well enough Walker, and I already was, even before the final. Didn’t finish it earlier than you though, right? Exact numbers don't really matter anyway, only who's on top." Bakugo answers without even looking back at you. You get the feeling that the Sports Festival results still weigh on him.

“Ah don’t think he realizes you got too cuddly with the villain too, sugah.” You divulge to the boy still beside you.

>"No, he does. All I got though was that I, and I am paraphrasing, 'should have punched Shigaraki's head off.' Didn't say anything about surviving."

>"Congratulations on doing the absolute bare minimum to live Deku, despite even your best effort not to with that so called quirk of yours, you wet pile of compost." Bakugo spits out over his shoulder after a deep sigh. It reminds you of Pa talking on the phone to some automated customer service program.

>"Huh. No swearing again." Deku comments without skipping a beat. He then notices your questioning expression and gives a shrug. "Compost is kind of an upgrade."

"Over wh- Nope. Ah ain't askin' that." You say, shaking your head and getting some hair in your eyes. "Anyways, glad to see you well sugah. Between your exam and the incident with Shiggy, Ah would have expected to see you still at least a little bruised…in spirit or physically Ah mean."

>"O-oh?" For some reason, he looks surprised that you are still talking with him, his face turns pink as you continue to give him your attention. "W-well, you know Recovery Girl’s quirk works particularly well on contusions… and I'm just glad nobody was harmed. There'll always be another chance to capture him, right? One that doesn't risk the lives of dozens."

"Took the words right outta mah mouth" You reaffirm with a nod. “And until then?”

> “...I won't let these incidents stop me or slow me down!" Deku announces, looking up to you with a wide innocent smile on his freckled face.

While not being much shorter than you, when Deku gets this way, like Angus with that look, you have a hard time keeping yourself from just picking him and cuddling him and- wait. No. Stop.

"’y-yuup." You eventually cough out while successfully keeping your hands to yourself. Luckily, he doesn't wait for a more elaborate answer from you, going to scrutinize his grades instead.

As with most emotions and thoughts you don't want to deal with, you take the first chance to push them back into the dark corners of your mind and replace it with unbridled enthusiasm. Thus, you twirl back towards the door to greet new arrivals with vigor.

Speaking of dark corners…

"Howdy!" You chipperly greet your darkest classmate with a hop towards him in the doorway, then bob in place. "Last day of the trimester! Nothing but cool stuff to look forward to! Campin' 'n' trainin' inna woods! I-Expo! Ain't you ex-ci-ted?!"

Fumikage jumps back out into the hallway and tenses for combat, seemingly surprised by your bubbly entrance.

>"...Not exactly." He replies after a second, returning to a more relaxed stance "Although I must admit, a dark communion in the woods, without anyone around to be hurt by the abyssal spirits unleashed… Does sound enticing, yes."

>"~Alone in the dark, hm?~How much fun could be had.~" Dark Shadow chips in with a sing-song tone, slinking out from under the hem of Fumikage's shirt and slowly spiraling towards you before running a shadowy claw along your shoulder. "It certainly will be 'ex-ci-ting'!"

Had it been anyone else's claw, you'd have smacked them into next Sunday. But you know that would have nary an effect on a corporealized shadow. Besides, you have something far better for this in your pocket.

"<Say cheese!>" You command in an overly sweet tone as you deftly unleash all the power of a modern and Hero-made smartphone with a stroboscopic flash, capturing over a dozen blinding pictures in a second before taking a moment to check the results of your handiwork. "Huh. All blurry."

You briefly ponder when did making an ethereal being mewl, pout, and shrink back into its hidey-hole stopped being anything notable. You turn your attention back towards your classmate as he finally stops rubbing his eyes.

"’Not exactly?’ You’re not going to I-Island or somethin’?" You ask, taking a step back and letting him into the classroom proper. "It'll be a blast! Toru wants everybody to be there."

>"Easy for you, Miss-Sports-Festival-Champion… Perhaps just the Expo itself. Heroes from all over the world would be present…" Fumikage says, tapping at his lower beak before looking back up at you. "However, I have no interest in the island activities Hagakure intends for us all."

"Too much sun, huh? Fair 'nuff." You shrug. "Oh, right, don't forget to check your grades! You did great in the finals, Ah'm sure."

>"A-and me?" Dark Shadow peeps out again from Tokoyami’s collar this time, a far too real tear leaking from its tiny shining yellow eye.

"You too bud, you too." You guess giving headpats to an entity of pure darkness is still pretty notable? It looks like a scrawny puppy at its smallest, and that's good enough for you.

>"That’s enough, don’t want its spirit restored too much." Fumikage says with a nod while walking off before stopping and looking back at you. "Oh also, I'm glad to see you are well Walker. May the icy claws of evil leave no mark upon you."

"Uh… And also with you?" You sputter back. You understand and appreciate the sentiment, you just aren't entirely sure how to reciprocate cryptic well-wishing.

Without anything else to add, you just turn back around to wait for-

Nope, no need for waiting it seems. You crash into and bounce off the newest arrival, feeling like you just marched right into a lightpost. And just like that, losing your meager balance was inevitable. Thank god for your thick skull, because back down you go… and the impact never arrives?

>"You okay, man?" Kirishima says, firmly holding you up by the shoulders and helping you to get your feet back under you. "It'd be a bad omen for the break to trip and fall now!"

"Yeah, thanks sugah! Good reflexes…" You respond while scratching the back of your neck with a sense of deja vu. Kirishima gives you a pointy grin at that.

>"What's with the quirk use just then, huh?" Mina asks from behind him, taking a couple steps closer to come stand between you. "I know you did! You get notably spikier when you do it. What were you trying to accomplish sneaking up on Ushi like that with your quirk? Hmmm~?"

The boy just raises his hands as his grin quickly flips, ready to plead his innocence. You don't need to hear his arguments to trust his good intentions though. With his wide, if sharp, smile ready to encourage anyone to go the distance, Kirishima is one of the few people you've seen get along with every single one of your classmates. It's honestly impressive. But watching Mina mess with people is equally entertaining, so you don't step in.

>"Hey now, I've been training with my quirk to harden when surprised, and I wasn't expecting Walker to just walk into me, so…surprise, heh" He explains, shrugging. "Besides, I don’t sneak up on people. It’s not manly. Walker was sort of, well, in the way, you know? I was just eager to ask Yaoyorozu if I could check my final rank… Maybe the final wasn’t that bad?"

>"...Right. Our grades. Thanks for reminding me" Mina groans and immediately forgets about teasing the boy any longer.

After bumping into him, you couldn’t ignore that the red haired boy smells of sweat and deodorant, as if he had been too busy to take a proper shower this morning. Yet somehow, Mina was so much worse now. The moment Kirishima mentioned their grades, if your prickling nose isn't misleading you, she started sweating bullets akin to very diluted battery acid.

"Oh, Ah can help y'all with that, c'mon, hop along!" You call the colorful pair to follow you in and to the taped paper on the wall. "As you can see… Well, Ah guess it could have been worse?"

>"...How!?" Mina asks as she pokes at the poor sheet, her finger digging into the paper and dissolving the bit next to her name, marking her 19th in the class and one of the few without a passing mark in the practical column.

"...You could have fallen a spot?" You try to point out the anemic silver lining, but Kirishima promptly snaps it in two.

>"Not really, they got the same failing grade as a pair so the most that could happen was her staying in the same spot." Kirishima explains with undue positive zeal, seemingly oblivious to the daggers Mina glares at him. Or maybe he's impervious to those too. "She couldn’t have become last in class as long as it was a team-based evaluation!"

>"Who are you to talk! You are like the sevightinieth now!" Mina chastises him, crossing her arms and pouting. You aren't quite sure, but it sounded like she choked on that last word, so you give some pats on her shoulder for good measure.

>"Ya I guess I am the third worst by that measure." He admits with a sad chuckle before puffing out his chest and bringing his fists together with a quirk-assisted clang, roaring with conviction. "That just means it's a rockier road than I expected and that much more room for improvement! That's why we train, right?!"

"Damn straight!" You yell back, placing your fists in front of his for a pumped-up fistbump.

Despite the obvious ability and strength to make it hurt or even mess up your wrists, his fists impact solidly with yours and leave your knuckles only a little sore. Pa would approve.

>"I’m going to make full use of this training camp, no matter what it throws my way!." Kirishima loudly declares to no one in particular.

>"I just hope it at least feels more like ‘camp’ than ‘training’." Mina’s continues to glower as they both head to the back to store their bags.

You decide to follow them after checking the door to see if any newcomers had arrived. Seeing and hearing no signs, you estimate you have enough time to satisfy your curiosity. And to get some payback.

"So…you two. Coming into class. Together. Do that often? You neighbors or somethin’...more~?” Despite the more traumatic encounter with Shigaraki, the memory of being put on the spot by Mina in front of the rest of your classmates is equally vivid in a different and far more petty corner of your mind. Not that either seem to even notice what you are implying.

>"Yeah."
>"Nah."

>"...Kinda." Mina re-answers while still sand-bagging your attempt to get under her skin. "Like, in the same postcode, but not close enough to be neighbors. We just ended up on the same train. Again."

>"It’s the last one that makes it here in time from there." Kirishima shrugs. "Sometimes you can get carried away with my morning exercises, so I have to run to make it to the station."

“Ah can tell!... Er Ah mean you always seem so wide awake in the morning compared to the rest of us?” You attempt to back track, before shifting your attention towards your less-saturated-red classmate.

"And you, sugah, are you doing reps too~?" You poke at your pink pal, both verbally and with your finger.

>"...I hit the snooze button like four times too many." She finally admits, swatting your finger away. "Why hurry if I know there's still another train that will get me close to U.A. in time?"

"Ah guess that makes sense…" You admit with a side glance while the pair head towards their own seats, still bantering.

>"See, that’s the work ethic that is leaving you at the bottom of the board!" Kirishima remarks, trying to motivate Mina.

>"Like that's working out so well for you. Lose any more ranks and it will officially surpass that time you tumbled down a flight of stairs as your biggest fall." Mina rebukes him.

You chuckle at that mental image. As far as you can tell, they aren't really anything more than friends. Their high energy and lively attitudes compliment just about anyone in the classroom, but seem to play off each other especially well. You wonder if their practical would’ve gone differently if they had been paired instead.

You turn to look at the rest of the classroom, at all the classmates you have greeted so far… and the one you didn't.

You don't hate Koda, not at all. The tall boy keeps to himself most of the time and goes out of his way not to bother anyone, barely speaking. Mostly doing so only when spoken to or to (very often) apologize… But when he does, the hair on the back of your neck stands up.

"...Mornin' to you too, sugah!" You reply, trying to be as courteous with him as with everyone else this morning, but you still end up pawing at the floor with the tip of your shoe. He might make you uneasy, but you are trying your darndest not to hold it against him when he's never been anything but nice. "Uhm, did you go check out your exam results, right over… there?"

Just pointing at the paper on the wall and staying put feels a bit like a backhanded insult, but it's as far as you can bring yourself without getting awkward. You just want to keep a bit of distance …is that so wrong?

>"Oh… Thanks!" Koda says, standing up and walking towards it before turning to look at you one more time. "Uhm…Have a nice morning, Walker."

"Will do!" You immediately reply, saluting with a smile. Always nervous but kind, you can't recall ever refusing a request of his even while making you feel equally on edge. Weird.

It's not to escape that distressing line of thought at all, just continuing your morning greetings, that you return your full attention to the classroom's large door.

>"We are just in time! We can make it!"
>"Stop running! I think Snipe saw us!"
>"Then it's too late to stop!"
>"HE'S AIMING!"

Yelling over each other, you couldn’t recognize the voices before you slid open the door. Luckily, you don't need to try thereafter as both of them immediately crash into you.

Not being one to trip on the same rock twice, at least not within the span of five minutes, you manage to brace yourself and catch both boys while keeping your balance, sliding a couple yards back in the process.

SWISH Sounds the quirk of the owner of one of the voices as a length of tape slaps on to the door, attaching it to the far wall and closing it just in time for two loud knocks to shake it. Soft-wax bullets if you had to guess.

While you can empathize with not wanting to get hit by Snipe's non-lethal but still-very-painful ammo, you can't imagine him shooting for no reason. So you lift up your arms and turn around in place to keep the dazed boys in what you would hesitatingly title a Double Bulldog Choke, holding their heads against your chest and their necks in your elbows. A flex away from cutting their airflow, you force them to walk further into the middle of the classroom while bent over and on the tips of their toes if they didn't want to choke.

"Aight. You know dang well as everyone else runnin' down the halls is prohibited." You tell them, giving them a bit of a squeeze. "And while you might have managed to give Snipe the slip this time, the classroom ain't no lawless wasteland either. So, why shouldn't Ah have you scrub the floor after class?"

Petty punishment is one of the few actual powers you have as VP, so while you are flexing your rather meager authority a bit for fun, it's not an empty threat.

>"Uh…" Denki starts, still trying to catch his breath. "We missed the last train here! We managed to take another train to a stop blocks away and we've been running since then."

"And pray tell, why did you miss the last train? Heck, why did you even aim for the last train?" You ask, giving him a bit more of a squeeze for a second, just until his face gets a bit red.

>"Well, I uh… wasn't gonna come at all?" Denki sheepishly says, earning himself a proper choking… for a second. Then you just drop him, disappointed.

"'n' you?" You ask Sero, neck still locked under your left arm.

>"I went to pick him up after he messaged m-yegh…" Croaks out Sero, getting you to soften up the hold on his neck. "I know we aren't really doing anything today, but we are first years at U.A. We haven't put up with all the tests and trials just to skip class, even the merely ceremonial, right?"

Unlike Denki, who you unceremoniously let fall to his knees, the moment you let go of Sero's neck you pull him up into a embrace to let him get his feet underneath him.

"Atta’ boy." You congratulate him, ruffling his hair a bit while you hug him before letting him go. Judging by how red his face is, he ran at least a whole mile more than Denki. "Ah think Ah'm lettin' ya off the hook with a warnin' this time, since Ah don't think we'll make much of a mess today. Now y'all better go on and check how you did on your tests, 'kay?"

>"Yeesh. I'm pretty sure that sleeping through most of it did not help my rank any." Sero laments as he looks towards the taped paper on the wall. "So, where’s Mr. Aizawa anyway? Sleeping behind his desk already or something?”

“Not here yet. Bell hasn’t gone off, see?” You let the final bombshell fall on the two boys. If he wasn’t already on all fours already, you’d hazard a guess Denki would have fallen to them now. "...You can use the time to reflect on the exam results?"

>“You mean we ran all the way here FOR NOTHING?” Denki asks, slamming his fist on the floor. …It sounded like it hurt.

“No? Ah mean yes? You’re right that nothing is happening today, but uh… Y'all are faster than you ever thought?" For the second time that morning, you attempt to spin up a silver lining. "Now you know not to try and skip class, at least!... Yeah, that."

He stays there, just sprawling on the floor.

"So… Did ya break your hand? Or are ya hopin' to peep up mah skirt? Cuz Ah'll help you out if it's the former and break it mahself if it's the later." You clarify.

>"Can't even have that…" He says, picking himself off the floor.

"Nope, now get up." You offer him a hand and pull him to his feet, then pat him a few times to dust him off. "You are better than that, man. Get ready for the last day, there'll be time to goof off later."

>"I guess. Still gotta submit the paperwork for that arubaito…" Denki says, scratching the back of his neck. "Thanks for not stomping me."

"Don't mention it." You really hope he doesn't. If it were Mineta on the floor, you would have been tempted to take a kick… or twenty. But Denki has more going for him than being a bit of a pervert, so it's a bit more tolerable. But you won't tell him that outright, the last thing you want is to enable that side of him. "Now go look at your results and think about what to do better next time. One hint, on me. Remember what Ah told ya at Yaomomo’s?”

His blank stare back at you tells you he doesn’t remember a lick of it.

“…try not to run around like a headless chicken when under attack, 'kay?"

>"Come on man, if we’re screwed, we should at least know the degree of it.” Sero gestures towards Denki while gazing unenthusiastically towards the paper taped to the wall. His blond pal sighs, then shrugs.

>"Sure, can't be worse than the dread from the end of last week." Denki says with a grim grin. "Hey, maybe enough people failed to make summer school kinda fun!"

"Ah wouldn't count on that, sugah." You give a grim look back before giving a parting push on the shoulder to send him on his way. "Summer School’s meant to help you shore up for the next time. And by your rank, you kinda have the most to make up of any of us. If nothing else, Ah’m sure Aizawa we’ll get you back into shape for next term."

>"Yeah…" Denki slowly replies, walking away with equal enthusiasm. You get the faint impression that he doesn't quite believe you.

>"Thanks for not bringing down the hammer on the whole running thing." Sero says before following Denki, a cheeky smirk replacing his usual piano-like smile. "Won't do it again this term, promise!"

"You better!" You reply with a chuckle and give him a loud slap on the back, sending him stumbling a few steps forward with a squawk.

By your count, that'd be most of the class already, now all making small talk from their seats, or in Mina and Bakugo's cases, from their desks. With about five minutes till the final bell of the term, you wait for the last few stragglers who should be hurrying to get here in time. You wonder if Snipe, knowing that students will be rushing at this point,, has settled in at the front of hallway to-

Your musings are interrupted by the sound of the classroom's door gently sliding open, and the aroma of cheese, no, cheeses wafting in. Gouda, Mozzarella,... Brie? A few more beyond that you can’t even put a name to immediately. All those are perceptible alongside cooked ham, and garlic too.

"Uh… Bon appétit?" You mutter, attempting to greet Aoyama as he enters the classroom with a bitten, yet still sizable sub-sandwich in hand. It smells great... You shake your head and try to focus. "Ah mean… Lemme guess, slept in n’ had to run for it with breakfast on the go?"

>"Bonjour, Walker!" Aoyama greets you, twirling nearly a full circle in place to face you… instead of just turning like a normal person. "Also, incorrect."

You stare at him, waiting for further elaboration.

Aoyama takes another bite of his delicious smelling sandwich, seemingly pleased with just holding your attention.

"So…" You trail off, motioning with your hand for him to continue. This seemingly prompts him to pull a handkerchief slowly from his pocket and dab his mouth clean before speaking.

>"My parents dropped me off nearby a while ago." He says, waving his sandwich up and down. You can't help but follow its gentle bobbing. "There’s beautiful weather today, with an important day ahead, mon ami. Perfect for a fulfilling breakfast and a walk, doubly so if it helps settle a nervous stomach."

"Huh. Ah thought you were just running late."

>"That'd be silly. Classes start at the same time every day, failing to arrive on time would be nothing less than poor planning." He comments while flourishing his meal at the clock. You admit mentally that he’s not exactly wrong. "However, I don't think I will be finishing breakfast on my own in time, and I do not want to be holding food when Mr. Aizawa arrives."

“He’d certainly dislike that…n’what way can Ah help ya?” You say, trying not to be too obvious that you were being a mouthpiece on behalf of your stomach. Your breakfast this morning was pleasant, but was barely the start of the typical thousands of calories you are used to having daily to make use of your quirk.

>"You can have it, if you want." He offers, tearing off the bitten part of the sandwich and handing you the rest. "Mother has the best of intentions, but making a sandwich out of a baguette stops it from being a light breakfast to be finished quickly, don't you think?"
>>
"Ah guess?" You get what he means, but looking at the sandwich in your hand, even if it was twice as long, it wouldn't be big enough for you to consider it a full breakfast. "Can't say no to Momma though, can ya?"

>"Of course not. They'd do anything for us, the least we can do is accept what we are given and do our part." He says, pausing for a brief moment and looking away, at the wall by the entrance. "Now mon ami, are those our grades? I'd like to see how dazzling I was."

"Oh, yeah. Ah mean, yes!" You mumble out, barely paying attention as he walks away before turning the other way and shoving the sandwich into your mouth. It was by far the longest interaction you’ve had with the boy thus far, but it was definitely the most successful as far as your appetite is concerned.

It's not your momma's cooking, that'd be even better, but you can't possibly deny it's one hell of a snack. Good enough at least to make you forget your mission for a minute as you chew through the soft baguette.

That's the excuse you give to yourself at least, when Sato is able to not only walk into the classroom, but up to the exam results on the wall without you even noticing.

You hear a sigh as you approach him, watching him lean closer to the paper with a large frown while running his finger down the side of the list.

"Ya don't sound too pleased, sugah." You comment. You realize and stifle the giggle that comes to you from calling ‘Sugarman’ that. "Didn't get the score you expected?"

>"No. I got exactly what I expected." He says with a pained look, bordering on grimace. "I wasn't expecting anything good after…" He suddenly goes quiet and looks at you, downtrodden. Exactly the type of mood you had hoped to foil today. But no, you were just too busy appeasing your gut rather than keeping to your morning plan. Guilt creeps up from your core as if some karmic burp from Aoyama’s sub.

"Yeah, rushin' headlong at Cementoss probably wasn’t the best idea, his quirk barely drains his stamina." You comment, trying to recall more of his exam with Red Riot along with some hero trivia. "Especially after the first minute or two of tryin'."

>“That’s the worst part. I couldn’t think of anything else! Not in the moment at least. And by the time we even wanted to, we had to keep fighting just to keep up with the closing walls, we never even had the chance to regroup and approach him differently.”

Sato drubs the wall to the side of the paper, his posture so slumped that his downcast eyes are almost level with your own. The boy seems to blink repeatedly before turning his head away, in a way that compels you to move closer so that you can continue to listen to him. What you hear was not meant for you, but for himself.

>"Just ended up tired, dull and useless. And then I just keeled over on my own. What good is a brute that can only punch at walls? Not even through them.”

“...sugah.” You try to get his attention. Regret for having been critical and having felt ‘disappointed’ watching their practical exam stacks on top of your earlier guilt. After a moment of silence between you two, Sato seems to recall something and sets himself straight while wiping at his face with his jacket sleeve before turning back to you.

>”Um, Vice President Walker, I apologize. I shouldn’t be moping. Especially here and especially in front of you after what happened.” The large boy bows politely down to your height before righting himself and turning to head for his seat in the second row. "Forgive me."

“Sugah.” You say to him again, but he seems to ignore you.

Man I wish I could think of something to supplement the option to have a hair of a chance better odds for Ushi, but nothing to do about it now.
>>
>>5533943
My bad. I can't think of anything else either. It doesn't help that, in character, we don't know much about Sato.

Maybe we can start with the fact that he's not just a dumb brute that can only punch through walls. He's a sweet and thoughtful lad that shared his delicious homemade chocolate with us when we were still strangers. Plus, everyone passed the written exam so him not being smart it's plain not true. Maybe we can give him a new perspective because it seems like he has the same problem Trickshot had, not seeing their quirks as a more versatile tool. There's a lot you can do with a bit of extra strength.
>>
>>5534040
He uses basically 0 gear. He should really consider using something to add another multiplier to his quirk’s strength multiplier. Something like a sledgehammer or a staff like Momo’s would do him wonders I think. And we’ve already seen the shmoovement options super strength unlocked for Deku. Hell, even baseline humans like Aizawa or Toga have a 12-foot vertical leap just on the merits of training. Carrying around some projectiles to bean people with from a distance would be a good idea too. And that’s to say nothing of whether it’s possible for him to unlock some sort of sugar-centric tech by labbing it out in the kitchen. Best to use this experience to find opportunities, not deficiencies.
>>
>>5534323
Exactly. That makes this whole situation real good thing for him. This is probably his ultimate foil and he gets to find out about it and workshop it over the break. IIRC, he interns with the Lion Hero later on so maybe we should tell him to look to his inspirations to see how they throw excess power around. All Might himself may have some good answers for him too. He's everyone's inspiration. Except for most villains.
>>
>>5534323
>>5534373

Maybe some kind of discus or shotput. Like something he can throw far with his strength.

Or a baseball/cricket ball.
>>
>>5534619
I like it. Discus decorated like sweets. Doughnuts, fluffy pancakes, apple pie. Some could explode into nets, or bolas.

"Have you considered that this line of work might just not be for you? Hypoglycemia is no joke already, but I mean, you do turn dummy thick when you activate your quirk and that could be dangerous. Hi, I'm sorry to go off-topic right now. I'm somewhat new to the thread but I was wondering if is Ushi going to have a part in the movies within the thread? Sadness in a classmate? Not on your watch! You aren't just gonna let him stew in those dark feelings like that.

“Sato, hey, we ain't done here!” You demand his attention with a pull of his sleeve and to turn him back around before he leaves the corner you both stand in. Surprise flashes across his face while his mouth hangs half open.

>"Uh? What do you mean, Walker?" He asks.

"Well!-" You start, radiating as much confidence as you can muster, - Only to falter as soon as you finish your first word. For whatever reason, your mind is just stuck on food. The complex medley of cheeses in the tasty snack Aoyama gifted you whetted your appetite more than you realized. You shake the hankering away before continuing. "Ya know,… to start, you’re not even last in the rankings!"

What you were trying to get at is that he’s already on the path to success by being in the best hero school in the country and competing with all his classmates…but it just doesn’t come out right. Not right at all.

>"So it could be worse…" He concludes aloud, not sounding particularly convinced.

"No. Ah mean, yes!" You answer, tripping a bit over your own words. "You have your strengths! Like strength! Just like everyone else has sumthin' goin' on, Ah mean!"

On that point, you aren't sure what you are even trying to say yourself, just that you are desperate to galvanize him with something. You just. Don’t. Know. What. You haven’t hung out that much…

>"Um…I don't think-" He starts, prompting you to interrupt him as an idea finally flashes in your mind.

"Exactly! Just right! Y'all just don't know what you’re doing." You point out excitedly, proud to have found a thread to work with. Maybe.

You think you can try to convince Sato he has all the tools and training at his disposal to shore up what sounds like merely a speed bump in his development as a hero. But you don't get the chance to.

Before you can go on, Sato sighs deeply and turns back around. As he makes his way to his desk, his massive shoulders are just as slumped as before you started talking to him.

"...Sugah?" You call out again, but his steps seem to only get heavier and louder as he continues walking away.

You decide not to follow, nor continue calling after him. Maybe you could salvage it, but you don't feel confident that you would not make it worse now.
>>
Instead, you lean back in the corner you find yourself in, lightly tapping your head against the wall behind you in quiet frustration while the final minutes before Homeroom tick down. You go over the conversation in your mind repeatedly, all the while ignoring the sights, sounds and smells of your classmates continuing to socialize in front of you.

You try your best to work out what you should have said. You know what you shouldn’t have, at least in the way you said it, that was obvious now. What you wanted to say, but just couldn’t, and why exactly that was, was harder to come by.

>"Hey, Walker." Your shortest classmate asks, walking up to stand in front of you. "You okay?"

In an instant you go from contemplative to groaning internally. Outwardly, you try your best to hide your disgust and close your eyes, as if not seeing the perverted nuisance in front of you could buy you some time.

You had successfully avoided thinking about this up until now. But now that the moment is here, you find yourself struggling to see the task you had set for yourself this morning through, for all your classmates.

You actively remind yourself that Mineta is also here to learn how to be a hero, and being openly hostile won't help him become a better person. You try your best to focus on his capacity to help people, like he did for you during your practical entrance exam… And if you put some effort into looking past his constant transgressions, you can admit that he's a clever little guy with a very versatile and useful quirk!

You can even look past his recent open admission to his true intentions for his heroics.

I just wanted to get chicks… To touch them…

…Yep. You can make it through this. You can be the better person, treat Mineta with kindness and respect, and give him the same welcome as you had tried to give everyone else today.

Having put away your frustrations in that short moment, you reopen your eyes and put on a rehearsed smile.

"...Well enough. Only emotional damage, Ah reckon." You answer, trying to keep up the cheery mask, stretching your neck a little before continuing looking down at him. You try not to mind the fact that he inched closer while you weren't looking. You take a step back, bumping against the wall behind you to not have to look at him through your cleavage. "Talked mah way out of a dustin' back there. Somehow."

>"I was talking about your expression just now, but that's good too." Mineta says, looking almost straight up at your eyes… for a brief moment, then scanning your body from top to bottom. "It'd be a shame to lose all that."
>>
Well, you tried.

"...Would you mind backtracking a bit, sugah? Ah'd like to start over." You ask, crouching to look at him at his level, if only for a moment. "Like, with some literal backtrackin', too."

>"Uh, sure?" He answers, sounding a bit confused while moving back towards the door.

You stand back up and walk closer to him.

"A bit more?" You ask, waving him away with your hand.

The confusion on his face grew but he obliged, walking backwards out of the classroom and into the hall.

"Just like that, thanks!" You nod, walking up to the open sliding door.

>"Hey Walker!" Mineta greets you again from the hallway.

"<Fuck off.>" You growl without dropping your smile, then cheerfully slam the door on his face before heading toward your seat. It won't help make him a better person, but it does help with your mood.

>"HEY! What did I do?" You hear him whine outside as you pass by Bakugo at the front of your row. Despite his tiredness, the blond boy’s shoulders twitch back and forth from a well-suppressed snicker, adding to your catharsis. Being the source of his smirk rather than being on the receiving end of one was much more fun.

Just as you plop yourself down on your seat, Mr. Aizawa slides the door open, marking the start of Homeroom.

>"You’re late Mineta, get to your seat, we are about to begin." The bedraggled hero says as he calmly walks towards his own desk at the front of the class. While he never looks particularly tidy, it's not hard to see him looking worse than usual. "I'll assume everyone has already checked their grades, and anyone who hasn't will have time to do so before we head towards the auditorium for the end of term ceremony, so I won't address it now."

Aizawa stands before the lectern before producing a sheet of printed paper and holds it at arm's reach. You think it may be a copy of the camping guide you all received last week.

>"It should go without saying that what happened this weekend are the latest additions of a growing list of events that shouldn't have been allowed to happen. I'd say not to worry, and that the school, all heroes in the faculty, as well as a large number beyond our grounds are on the lookout for these villains…" He says, sighing and wiping his greasy hair away from his face. "But I won't insult your intelligence. We are looking into this issue and taking measures, but your worry would be more than understandable. A logical response."

While his words aren't exactly reassuring, the bluntness of them do make you feel better by respecting you enough to not sugarcoat it at all. So at least it sounds like whatever the school is doing is serious. And that is reassuring.

>"The first of these measures, and the one you'll notice the most is that we've canceled our previous accommodations for our planned camping trip." He says, ripping the sheet of paper and letting it flutter down to his desk in pieces, to the gasping of some of your classmates… And your own. You really were looking forward to that trip. "Don't fret. The trip itself isn't canceled, just changed. The new destination and schedule won't be revealed until the day we depart."

>"But I already told my parents that-" Sero immediately points out.

>"The school will be calling each of your households throughout the day to tell them what they need to know." Mr. Aizawa reassured him. Or at least you think it was meant to be reassuring. "However, they won't be informed of your destination. You'll be free to recount the summer memories you made to them after you return. Try not to undermine your own safety and tell anyone anything while on location, alright?"

>"It does make sense..." Momo muses out loud behind you. "The villains have managed to find out where we'd be twice already. Making sure they can't possibly learn where we'll be is a simple first step to ensure our safety."

>"Correct. Now, the second measure that you all should know is the new schedule the school has set for the additional course you each signed up for last week. Instead of hosting this lesson each Friday before the week of camp, we have decided to expedite the program to be completed by the end of this week. Following today, a fraction of the class will attend the course here at U.A., mid-day, each day. Not only will this finally put an end to the delay in your hero course curriculum, but will also ensure you all to be in vicinity of U.A and our security measures until at least next weekend. After all, few places in the country are as safe as U.A.'s campus."

You aren’t the only one to audibly groan at that piece of news. Your summer break was just delayed in so many words. Now you won’t be truly free to do what you want with your classmates until the last of you leave campus this upcoming Friday.

You are about to request a clarification from your teacher, but Iida beats you to the punch. Although it was more like an upper-cut chop with the way his hand shoots up.

>“Sir! Should we presume that this will require us to change our chosen day to attend the course before we leave today?"

>“You may. In fact, we will be doing that right now." Aizawa answers him while raising another sheet of paper. This one is still whole and divided into 4 boxes containing lines for your names. "If any of you are indifferent to the scheduling, you'll be slotted into an incomplete team for the lesson."

While you do have some plans and ideas of how to spend your break, you don't really have a fixed schedule. Besides needing to board a plane to I-Island this Friday, that is…

Some notes, if you skip the exercise, you'll still get a small recap.
This exercise isn't taking place today, so there will be time after this vote to do… stuff.
Feel free to ask stuff!

"'Aight! Time to prove we can do better when we are told it's an exercise!" You announce, raising your fist up high in excitement.

Mr. Aizawa hands a sheet of paper to Aoyama, who quickly scribbles something down and passes it along. By the time it gets to your desk, you don't even bother to read it, you just sign your name and pick a date that doesn’t bother you before handing it back to Shoto.

Once the sheet makes its way back to the front and into Mr. Aizawa’s hands, he gives it a once over and nods before glaring up at the classroom’s clock.

>”And now the third item before we depart. In the same vein as the schedule change, for security and safety, we are also formally requesting each of your families to forgo any extended travel away from the country… that hasn’t already been scheduled.

For a moment, you felt the stone in your stomach return with a vengeance, thinking that the second trip you had your mind set on had been snatched away. While you feel relieved again, you hear a quiet, despondent murmur from Momo after Mr. Aizawa finishes. In contrast, you notice Toru’s sleeves at the front of the class shake with excitement.

>"Now that we have concluded our important businesses and the required communication has been relayed to you all, let us go to the auditorium and waste our time. Officially." Mr. Aizawa says as he walks to the door. While you would never accuse the man of being too lighthearted, there's no way he didn't intend that last direction to cause the ensuing giggling.

Which in retrospect, was a welcome reprieve. Despite your prior banter with Jiro, absolutely nothing beyond the mundane occurred during the end of term ceremony. If you hadn't ended up sitting besides Mina, who was all too eager to pinch you whenever you started to doze off, you aren't sure you would have made it through it all without snoring.

Principal Nezu's first speech was exciting and uplifting, as were a number of teacher's summaries and congratulations for each of the classes. Mr. Aizawa's in particular, even with his voice as flat as ever, stirred up an inordinate amount of hoopla. His claims that you all were overperforming for freshmen got many of your classmates cheering, echoed by many others from a class of second years for some reason.

After that, you let your guard back down. If there was a perfect time for U.A. to pull another of its stunts, it would have been with your teacher at the lead. The flip-side being that it was much harder to keep politely attentive for every other class’s summary afterwards. By the time the principal made it clear he had another speech ready to go after every faculty member had a chance at the podium, his voice was all but droning white noise to you.

You were still holding back your yawning with the backside of your hand by the time you returned to the classroom. There, you see you aren’t the only one ready for a nap after that slog. You pass by Mineta’s form prone over his desk, his face flat against the surface. Good, that means you and the girls can talk without him intruding and spoiling the conversation… and they seem to have already taken advantage of that opportunity.

>”-keeping us from traveling the whole summer! Thank goodness we are all managing to go to I-Island ahead of then.” You hear Uraraka say as your hearing returns after another yawn.

You shake the doze off and approach Momo's desk, the de facto gathering spot for the class's girls. Jiro has already occupied your desk seat, sitting in it backwards to face the president of the class. So you lean against the costume-storage wall on Momo’s left side instead, opposite of the classroom brunette.

>”See! I told you it was a good idea to convince everyone to come in whatever way they can! Now the whole class can get some vacation time before training camp!” Toru exclaims. That must be why she was visibly elated by Mr. Aizawa’s last announcement.

“Definitely turned out right on that one sugah, good call.” You direct a purposeful nod to where you believe her head is.”...Sorry to hear your travel plans cut short Uraraka, where else were you headed?”

She just stands there with her hands at her sides, staring at you with a neutral expression until Momo makes a polite noise and fills in the awkward silence.

>”It really is too bad. I was meant to return to Venice with my parents following I-Island.” Momo states sheepishly.

That got all the girl’s attention. For your part, you whistle in wonder at such a long-distance getaway, joining the gals' chorus of 'woah's and 'cool!'s.

>”I do apologize for that.” Momo says looking in your direction while the rest recover from their reactions.

“For what? It’s not your fault that the school is taking the threat of the villains seriously. Ah’m just glad they seem to be going at the problem whole hog.” You shrug. Before the class president could respond, Toru began another bouncy caper that she seems to know now can pull everyone’s attention back to her.

>”Well if we don’t even know for certain there’s going to be any beaches at I-Island, and we can’t travel anywhere else, we might as well take the matter of sun-tanning into our own hands! Do you think we can use the school pool before we leave?!” She asks, her uniform bobbing up and down, making it a bit hard to try and to track where her eyes ought to be.

>”I don’t see why not. We’d only need a faculty member’s permission. They’ll be around for the rest of the week anyway for the hero course.” Tsuyu comments.

>"Oh! Good idea! No entrance fees, or buying a new swimsuit then!” Uraraka cheers.

>"Better than being cooped up at home, that’s for sure.” Mina joins in with an excited bobbing of her head, making her horns bounce a bit. Being used to solid ones, it looks a bit unsettling, but she doesn't seem to mind.

>"Another excellent idea Toru, I’ll go get the permission in writing right after this then! Ushi, would you like to accompany me? To have both class representatives present would strengthen our case on the slim chance they are not accommodating.” Momo rotates back to you, the endearing bubbliness emanates from her again, making it so hard to turn her down for anything. Unfortunately this time, you’ll have to decline if you don't want to leave Shoto hanging.

”’fraid not Yaomomo, Ah’ve got unfinished business to take care of today. But you shoot me a text reminder and Ah’ll be there.” You start with a shake of your head but end with a reassuring nod. "Shouldn't be long, but Ah don't wanna leave you waitin' nor postpone mah stuff either."

>"Ah." While she looks disappointed, her smile quickly returns. "Very well then, I'm more than capable of dealing with a little bureaucracy."

It’s not too long after that you finally get to follow up on those prior commitments you made this past weekend.

With the camping trip still on the horizon and I-Island even nearer, there are no teary-eyed farewells at the last bell ring for the term, just lighthearted goodbyes and see-you-soons being exchanged between groups of friends at the school's gates.

Or, in your case, a slightly secretive meet-up in the shadows… and by shadows you mean the pleasant shade of the forest edge nearest to the campus entrance.

>"Looking up All-for-One on Kamiji's terminal offered no direct results from the national databases, just a suggestion to ask a hero with higher clearance." Shoto gets right into it before following your lead and leaning on the tree next to yours. "There are, however, second hand accounts that include the name which I had to manually search for to uncover. But whoever the man was, he was highly influential considering how many of those accounts were villains mentioning the name All-for-One in passing. Even then, further details beyond just the name, what they said of him, were redacted for Kamiji’s account."

"Wait, ‘was’? The way Deku and Shiggy mentioned ‘em, Ah would’ve sworn it was someone in the present... Ah already didn't like this whole thing one bit, but it's startin' to get spooky." You point out, only slightly exaggerating the shiver running down your spine. "Ah really don't mind if Deku doesn't wanna tell us what his deal with All Might is, but Ah'm gonna be really pissed if he's keepin' secrets about the villains tryin' to murder us…"

You mull over your friend’s words for a moment before continuing.

"...Kamiji's terminal? Like, Burnin's computer?" You ask, noticing something rather peculiar about what Shoto just told you.

>"Yes. I asked her if I could use it and she said I could, as long as she was supervising me." He answers. "She kept asking about school, my classes, friends…"

"So, not even Burnin', who's like, the second in command of The Endeavor Agency, the second largest Hero Agency in the country, can see what this guy's deal was!?"

>"...you." Shoto continues, oddly absentminded before snapping back to reality. "Sorry. …That appears to be the case. And there's nothing left to do without someone of even higher standing to inform us or give us access. Unlikely, all things considered."

You blink, shake your head, and do your best to ignore his short stint of mindless staring.

"Right, so Deku just went and brought up someone out of the blue that’s so secret, that only a handful of people can even readily view information on who they are…were." You ponder before shrugging, a fair bit frustrated. "<Fuck it>. How much you wanna bet he heard it from All-Might? At least some part of it…We already know they are connected ‘or something.’ Ah say we go and clear this up just like you did at the Sports Festival. We didn’t pry further then when we could have, but there’s more at stake now. Let's just wait for him and ask him face to face! He's bound to head out to the train station, no?"

>"Sounds like the simplest way out of this obscured situation." Shoto admits, but doesn't sound all too convinced. "But what if Midoriya doesn't want to talk? Can we force him to? Do we even have the right to?"

"Ah know Ah wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully if Ah lied 'bout sumthin' like this." You say, your shoulders dropping a bit. "But not really. Can't do much but ask. At least Ah don't think he'd lie. He didn’t try to last time…or maybe he failed miserably, Ah honestly can’t remember."

You stay beside each other for a minute in comfortable silence, thinking about how to approach Deku, all the while looking out for him. It is not too much longer before you both spot the boy-to-question walking out of the gates.
>>
You motion for Shoto to follow and head for the entrance to tail the green-haired boy, but you stop in your tracks the moment you notice the still fairly tired looking Bakugo following your target from behind.

You curse yourself for having forgotten that the two boys go the exact same way to and from school, even with the loud reminder of that fact this morning. If you and Shoto attempt to confront Deku in the open and start asking questions as you want, there's no way Bakugo wouldn’t notice.

Then again, does that even matter? It wouldn't even be the first time he ends up eavesdropping a private chat between the three of you.

>What do you do?

Tin was able to call the police and Pony because it was listening to the conversation. If it was listening to the conversation, then it also heard what Deku and Shigaraki said about AfO.

I was a little foggy if Tin was physically there in our backpack (which it wasn’t) or just there virtually by listening though our phone (which it was).

Either way, it should recall well enough to keep Deku from saying we must have misheard or something.
