it's a normal game night with your battle-hungry sister and a silent girl made of questionable materials. when last we left off, our heroes ran off with stolen weapons and armor, had a sand sculpture contest on the beach, and got breakfast to go! now that you've finally accepted your loss in the contest, you question your sister about the distant town near the shore, and she replies with a concerned look. as you listen to her tale of bandits and impoverished conditions, you learn that the basket of food was one family's last ditch attempt at hiring some heroes to help. after careful consideration, your ideas are to head to the town:
1) Fully equipped for battle, to help
2) With a handful of items, to trade
3) Ignoring the issues, just because

you grab the bag full of items, shove the bamboo spear back in, and start off towards the direction your sister points. however, you shortly realize you do not want to walk again, so you consult with your sister and Maddie in hopes of a solution. the mud girl fumbles around in the bag and pulls out some items, including a very large metal shield. this leads to a bit of an idea, so you plead with your sister to pull you two along at her heightened pace to the town. you'll owe her a favor later, but she agrees, and a makeshift sled is made. Maddie saddles your back and you grin, satisfied with your genius. you all surge forward powerfully, moments before you get a face full of sand from your sister's strides in front and claw messily to get it off. time passes while the sled sways and you keep your eyes closed, and eventually the terrain is solid enough to stop hitting you in the face. at least your sister's comfortable with the transport, since she brags about it being easy. finally, everyone comes to a stop in view of wooden posts stuck in the ground, and you begin putting on your armor and folding up the deceptively empty bag.

much of the town's buildings are already visible due to the lack of walls around the town, and roofs thatched with dirty blonde reeds sprawl ahead. a few stray villagers shuffle along the main road, and no one seems to have noticed your group. you exchange a few words with the party and decide to make a bold entrance. after all, you'll be carrying the hopes of who knows how many people with your group, and you want to draw attention. you all leap forward and announce yourself the incoming saviors of the town, and everyone strikes a pose. soon a small crowd of worn out people gathers, but they seem more hesitant than excited for your arrival, and they watch carefully. you decide to:
1) Strut to the biggest building in town
2) Ask your sister where that family is
3) Use the bag's items to grab attention

you whip out the folded bag before the small crowd's eyes, and it pops into its larger form. just then, someone darts away from the gathering of people but you pay it no mind, you have a show to put on. Maddie is still missing her bucket, so you sweep through the contents to retrieve it, and move on to the next spectacle. but when you lift your head from scouring the assortment of items and armor ready to show off a helmet, you're greeted by the saddest looking pair of villagers from the group, shuffling forward in hopes of food. you begin to panic and look harder, but you've only got luxury items with no food in sight and the beggar girl Grene is now waiting for you with pleading eyes. the only thing you can do now is:
1) Ask for the nearest store or merchant to buy food
2) Give Grene whatever she wants from the bag

as the tattered kid comes near, you open the bag wide and insist she can take whatever she likes. her eyes beeline to your stuffed bird, probably because it resembles meat. oh well, you have to keep your promise, so although reluctantly, you give it to her. she thanks you and gnaws at it like a dog with a bone. from the crowd, a gruff arm pushes her away to get closer to the glimmering things peeking from the bag. judging from their attitude and sword, it looks like one of the bandits has arrived. your sister and Maddie jerk forward, but you assure them you'll handle this one, and confront the man. you hear an insistent voice from her anyway, telling you things like "that's not how you hold a spear" and "if you get beaten up i'll just finish the job". however, you're sure you know what you're doing after an earlier inspection of your bamboo weapon. your thumb brushes against what you thought was just a twig, on what you thought was just a spear.

with curiosity you pull the trigger while aiming the bamboo right at the bandit's head, and a blast of reddish fireworks whistles loudly towards his face. unlike normal fireworks, they linger in the air around him, and he screams out for help over their aggressive crackling and popping. soon he's facedown on the floor with his hair still burning, and you pump your fist before testing another shot in the air to make sure it still works. it does, and soon more bandits enter from the streets, drawn in by the commotion. you motion to your party to join in, and plan to:
1) Join Maddie in attacking while your sister guards the rear
2) Back up your sister's fighting while Maddie shields you both

the plan is whispered to your team in a hushed voice, and soon you're all humiliating their fallen and smoked comrade with kicks and rude gestures. while this is typical of your sister, even Maddie has zeal for it under the adoring eyes of the once-downtrodden villagers. the bandits are raring to go, and soon finally charge once the tension reaches a breaking point. the glint of their incoming swords briefly worries you, but you next:
1) Direct Maddie to use an area-wide sand attack

you beat down the bandits closest to you with rapid fire and they fall to the ground clutching their faces. perfect headshots. encouraged by this, your sister starts swinging violently and zipping through their ranks, and you neatly swing your arm to signal Maddie. she responds by bending down, her body becoming a flood of sand that hits the rest like a wall. everything she touches is quickly engulfed, but your team is spared. the bandits are pinned to the floor, and you hear the choking sounds from the ones that were still conscious fade. a perfect victory. your next options are:

you take off your helmet to reveal your best shit-eating grin, and start mocking loudly throughout the town, strolling past the facedown bandits with the bag they were seeking. the rest of the party is not entirely as loud as you, but they're in a good mood from the fighting and laugh along. however, an older man's voice with a salty accent sounds out from one open hut as you are walking away: "i hear you took good care of me men. we'll see if ye think i'm cut from the same cloth." you ignore the voice and keep walking forward, not even a bit curious. the man then charges outside, yelling: "a duel, you rat bastard, i ask for a duel!" you decide to humor him, while plotting to stomp him together if anything goes wrong, so you:
1) Face the bandit leader alone
2) Send your sister to fight him
3) Let Maddie handle the man

supplementary material: while getting a good look at the man who has emerged from the hut, you note he's dressed better than the entire village despite the crude inflection in his words, and has a dark wooden cane. compared to the slightly ragged bandits from before, he does seem like he'd pose more of a challenge.

your sister steps forward to fight him, after you ask her to. she has plenty of energy left from the bandits, and loves the swordsmanship practice, after all. the older man is stern and unmoved by the appearance of a peppy girl as his opponent, and wordlessly the match begins. her katana flashes toward his chest, but it makes a hollow sound against his cane. she backs up and he takes out a fat cigar, lighting it with his thumb instead of a lighter. some kind of magic? while you think, your sister has swung her sword multiple times, each met with that cane. she seems evenly matched, for once. you decide to:

you see your sister struggling against the man and although you know she can do it herself, you feel the need to offer moral support somehow. as brash as it is, you call a timeout in the middle of the duel, and when the older man makes a strike towards her, Maddie squirms up from the ground and pins his legs and staff to the floor. he rages in the background, and your sister meets your eyes, annoyed and a bit shaken from not winning immediately. you don't know much in the way of battle music but you start singing a song you know will get through to your sister, from a much older movie night. upon hearing it, she starts to laugh a little, and refocuses on the struggling man as you keep belting out lyrics and humming musical stings. she's starting to vibrate slightly from the building energy and tension, and you toss her another sword from the bag before the duel instantly resumes with a "go get em."

she whips out of sight, chipping away at the man with dashes you can barely keep track of as you continue to chant the song. he struggles to block both swords with the single piece of wood, and begins taking steps back. as your sister continues to attack from all angles, he begins to strain and twist, matching her strikes less and less, and from more tenuous angles. his arm grossly bends to cover his back, and finally, she pierces through his arm with the saber, and slashes at his side. he's down. you and Maddie clap wildly, and she kicks away his staff, proud. you now:

you decide to destroy the staff on a whim and give it your best carbonizing with the bamboo cannon. the older man cries out in protest and rage before fainting, and the three of you fiendishly decide to raid his house in the meantime. upon stepping in, the smell of dust and leather hits you. it looks like he was an archeology buff, from the random artifacts on the floor, tables, and walls. you put whatever you see in the folded storage bag to sort later, and even snag some dried legs of meat hung along a wall. as you do, your sister sheepishly thanks you for the battle help, and you accept the appreciation with zest. now, onto
