Long ago, on a planet called Earth, the greatest martial artist of his time made the ultimate sacrifice to seal away the most fearsome tyrant the world had ever seen. Master Mutaito gave his life to put an end to the threat that the Demon King Piccolo posed to the world. Our story, however, begins before even that...>What is this? This is a story following the adventures of a youth on Earth from pre-dragonball times, where we assume the role of a character inserted into Age 440 - when even characters like Roshi and Shen were foolish youths.>How does this work? It's a relatively simple system. We roll a pool of d10s equal to the relevant stats, with the goal being to roll as high as possible on the dice. Each anon rolls a SINGLE d10 with their roll, after I call out what it's going to be "best of". For example, if your relevant stat is 3, it's "Bo3", and three anons roll 1d10.Eventually, as you grow stronger in different ways, the dice too will grow. You will never have more than Bo5, but the dice you roll may evolve into a d20, a d50, a d100...you get the idea.Rolling the minimum result on these dice is always going to be a critical failure, and rolling the highest result is always going to be a critical success, which also scale in how drastic they are with the size of the dice - a 1 on a d10 isn't going to be nearly as bad as a 1 on a d100, so don't worry too much about it.>Who are we playing?Wyald Honta, an almost-twelve-year-old hybrid of Human and Tiger-beastman who set out to explore the world in order to sate the call of his blood. Because of his hybrid nature, he ages quicker than humans, yet slower than other beastmen. He has a strong moral compass, a polite and friendly demeanour, but an unforgiving side when it comes to those who commit evil. He's slowly evolving the Way of the Warrior with his three friends: Azalea, Barbar, and Harum.>Last time on Dragon Ball: LegacyYou fought and then trained under Mutaito to learn the secrets of Ki, befriended Roshi and Shen, started a long-distance relationship with Love Teal, desperately trained to withstand the elements in Yunzabit Heights where you discovered a spaceship, became Korin's best student, got sidetracked on your way to Baba's by a league of Pirates that you almost completely dismantled, and bested most of Baba's fighters thus far after being enticed by the idea of battling otherworldly fighters!>Archivehttps://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Dragon%20Ball%20Legacy
Bouncing on your heels to make sure your blood is flowing properly for some high-intensity movement, you formulate a plan in your head while staring up at the colossal Golem. Going off of Azalea's knowledge, your two lightning-based techniques would be ineffective against something made of huge slabs of stone. Physically speaking, you can crack normal stone, but you somehow doubt that this is normal stone to begin with - and trying to overpower something that can move several tons of rock that just happen to make up the entirety of its body seems like a foolish idea. However, that last quality seems like something you can use against it - it's almost certainly guaranteed to be able to hit harder than you, and it has a lot more mass to throw around, so if you wanted to crush this stone menace...what better way to handle it than to make it crush itself? With that in mind, you spring into action, dashing forward as soon as Baba announces the start of the fight. The golem winds up a heavy yet predictable smash, trying to crush you into the ground with its weight and strength immediately, but you easily outmaneuver the lumbering creation and let it slam its fists into nothing but the softer stone that comprises the arena. Its fists actually embed halfway into the rock, and the Golem proves slow to recover from it as you're already digging your claws into the crevices of its brickwork chest and bounding your way up to its head by the time it extracts itself from the rubble. It immediately tries to follow up with similarly telegraphed swipes at you, trying to either grab you or brush you off of itself, but you scurry nimbly around its body and refuse to allow it to get anywhere close to contacting you - you can tell that the fight would be over if it could actually take hold of you. As though it was starting to get frustrated, it drives a fist towards you at startling speed, which you dodge by back-flipping over it and landing on its wrist in a handstand. The gigantic limb continues to fly forward, however, contacting its 'head' and shattering the less-sturdy head into what must be hundreds of pieces while cracking the somewhat sturdier fist that struck it. The Golem pauses for a moment, as though considering something, before both of its hands reach up to try to feel where its head used to be, somehow still standing despite the lack of what would be an important body-part for anything else.
Immediately after realizing what it did, it stomps on the ground a few times in anger, prompting you to shove yourself off of its wrist and onto its chest. Its arms grab hold of its own waist and it suddenly dips its chest down as it raises a knee up rapidly, trying to smash you against its own chest in the act, but you're long gone by the time it makes contact - its own knee is driven with such force into its chest that it embeds itself halfway through it, spreading a spiderweb of cracks throughout the bulk of the Golem...before the chest loses cohesiveness entirely and starts to crumble. You land on the ground nearby with an acrobatic flourish, and rub your thumb across your nose with a grin. "That was easier than the last one, if I'm being honest!" You boast, satisfied with how easily you dismantled the so-called invincible golem. "Hey, can we take a break before the last fight? I'm getting kind of hungry from these workouts." You ask, turning to the fuming Baba who appears to be in disbelief over her creation being destroyed."I...I suppose I can allow it. It may very well be the last meal you ever have, after all." She begrudgingly states, floating off towards the main building once more with you and your friends in tow. Deciding to keep things fairly light but still delicious, you opt to prepare some sushi for everyone's lunch, even making some for the previous fighters you crossed. Medusa doesn't really join you, but Fangs and Bandages surprisingly do."Eheheh, raw meat is always a treat. Not as good as blood, but its still bursting with flavour!" The still-charred Fangs comments over the lunch, proving to you that apparently vampires CAN eat things other than blood."This would pair well with some of the drinks from my time. Wine would be a classier choice, but beer seems like it'd suit the palette better." Bandages muses, and you try to consider it yourself."You know, I've never actually had alcohol before. I got drunk once, but that was just from fumes. Is it really that good?" You ask, curious as to the realm of spirits and booze."It's an acquired taste, but yeah, I think so. It's a great way to unwind, if you don't take it too far." Bandages confirms with a resolute nod, before pointing his chopsticks at you. "I even heard that drinking can make you a better fighter by making you unpredictable, you know. Some guy made a style revolving around it, the drunken monkey or something." He follows up, causing your eyebrows to shoot up in surprise."Woah, really? I should look into that some day, when I got drunk it just made it way harder to do anything! Maybe they have a way to train out a weakness like that..." You ponder, considering the idea of mastering a drunken state over the rest of lunch. When you all finally finish up, Baba takes you back out to the central arena, which hadn't suffered much damage other than a bit of ash accumulated on it.
"I hope you have a will made, because this last fighter is nothing like the ones you faced before. He's a ruthless cold-blooded killer who won't hesitate to take your life. Even if you show him mercy, he won't give any in return. Prepare yourself, for you now fight...Spike, the Devil Man!" She says, lightning accenting her claim right after she announces her next fighter. On queue, a tall figure with batlike wings appears on the tallest point of Baba's palace and jumps off of it. Without bothering to use his wings, he jumps up what must be at least two hundred feet before tucking into a roll and landing right in front of you in the central arena, his arms crossed and a cocky grin on his face."It's about time I had some entertainment. So much trash gets filtered by my colleagues that I almost never get to have any fun myself. How about we draw out this execution a bit, so we can enjoy ourselves with it?" He offers, a sadistic aura emanating from him. He has a pretty similar feel to the three demons you faced years ago, but it also kind of feels like he's playing it up for some reason...regardless, you just bow politely at your next opponent, and assume a ready stance. You won't lose here, not with your winning streak.>Bait him into thinking he has the upper hand by taking a few attacks intentionally, act like you're no match for him. Once his guard is down, you can deal a decisive blow that will give you a solid upper hand for the rest of the match, or possibly even win you the fight immediately.>Go all-out, right away. The two of you stare each other down as it becomes clear that you won't be responding to his vague threats, Spike's grin turning into a tight frown from the lack of reaction. As soon as baba calls out the start of the battle, you tense every muscle in your body and burst forward into a sprint that cracks the tiles beneath your feet, zigzagging on your approach with your limbs tucked in closely as you always do when adopting the River Stance. Most people would have a great deal of trouble tracking you like this, but you notice Spike's eyes keeping locked squarely on you on your approach, and his own muscles flex in preparation for an intercepting blow.Unfortunately for him, you know exactly where he thinks you're going to be thanks to your own 'predictable' approach, and right when he swipes out with a chop that would have caught you right in the neck you kick off an air-step to juke off to the side and duck low. Popping off of a second air step to gain forward momentum again, you slam your fist straight into his gut with a full force uppercut, knocking the air out of your opponent and flinging him into the air like a ragdoll. He suddenly suspends his motion after a few seconds, thrusting his hands and legs out with a burst of energy, and stares down at you hatefully."A lucky shot, brat! We'll see how- WAIT, WAIT, I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF TALKING-" He starts to say, growing suddenly panicked when he notices the fact that you're actually leaping up towards him by springing off of several air-steps to follow up on your first strike. Before he can really prepare much of a resistance, you're up in his face and swinging your body sideways so that you can put your all into a kick that catches the back of his neck and sends him hurtling back down towards the arena. With gravity assisting your effort, he embeds a good foot into the brickwork as soon as he impacts the ground, leaving you free to control your own descent to land with considerably more grace near his hole. With a growl of anger, he pulls himself out of the stones and brushes off some of the pebbles clinging to his suit. It looks like he wants to monologue again, but the fact that you're already on the move to keep up the aggression seems to dissuade him from such - he instead starts to spark with electricity suddenly, as though he's getting ready to use a technique of his own. With a malicious grin, he thrusts his hands towards you to try to intercept you, only for you to duck down into an extremely low-down slide and leave the electrical orb to fly harmlessly overhead. While he tries to charge up a second blast to compensate, you surprise him with some lightning of your own you've been charging up on your fingers, thrusting to point your index and middle finger at him to unleash a shocking bolt right at him that lights him up brightly for a few moments.
To his credit, he's still not down from all the damage he's taken so far. While you're righting yourself after the slide, he not only manages to shake off the momentary stunning you gave him, but also seems to be charging up a a particularly vile feeling pink energy between his fingers, clearly seething with frustration at the moment that has him quite literally foaming at the mouth as he prepares this next attack. "That's it! I hope you're prepared to die, because nobody uses Spike the Devil Man as a punching bag and lives!" He shouts."Wait a minute, you can't use that! I forbid it! It's going too far!" Baba shouts out suddenly, from the sidelines. You get the feeling that whatever he's preparing, you should either make sure you can dodge it...or stop him from using it to begin with. And you have the perfect tool for that, gritting your teeth and tensing your muscles to make it seem like you're going to be intent on going with the first option. However..."This next attack will amplify even the slightest evil in your heart until it explodes! Get ready, this is my ultimate attack, THE DEVILMITE BE-" He exclaims, starting the motion of thrusting his fingers towards you to try to release that energy...when a particularly powerful and well-charged bolt of lightning strikes him from the clouds, causing his own attack to implode before it can be released and sending him flying back from the accumulated energy. When he lands, it's with a telltale splash, meaning he's officially out of bounds...and meaning you've officially won, actually!Baba whispers something to Bandages and Fangs, who go over to collect their greatest fighter while Baba approaches you. You think you can actually see Bandages wrapping up the fuming devil, perhaps to stop him from doing anything further now that he lost. "Well, I can't say I didn't see this coming. The only thing I didn't expect was the fact that you made me lose two fighters during this venture, so now I have to find replacements! Hmph." Baba complains to you, carefully slipping off of her floating crystal ball to stand on her own for a bit.
"Sorry about that!" You apologize bashfully, rubbing the back of your head. You glance to the rest of your friends for a moment, realizing something else. "O-Oh, and I'm sorry for taking all the fights! I just wanted to test my limits against all of them, you know?" You admit, bowing your head to them. Barbar just gives you a smirk and shakes his head, while Azalea and Harum say something to each other that you don't quite catch about how it's not surprising."Normally I would let you ask up to five things of me for completing my challenge...however, if we subtract one for the damages to my poor palace and another for the vacancies you opened in my team, then I'm afraid I can only afford to give you three fortunes. If you want my advice, make it a good one that'll help you become nice and rich - that way you can just pay the fee the normal way." She continues, ignoring your apology entirely. You actually spend a solid minute thinking about exactly what you want to ask for, and considering the wording carefully. Baba doesn't seem to like you much, so you suspect she might try to fulfil the telling exactly as worded - you could be wrong of course, but it doesn't hurt to be careful and try to treat this like some kind of genie's wish. That does get you wondering if genies are real and if they can actually grant wishes, but you reel in your wandering thoughts rather quickly to stay on topic. Your first question is one that's been weighing on your heart since you were a child, seeing yourself grow up faster than all your friends."Tell me how I can extend my lifespan indefinitely, or possibly even become immortal." You ask, adopting a serious expression. Baba's expression shifts into a mysterious smile at that, perhaps approving of your choice."My my, you're actually planning ahead, are you? A wise choice, because time is so very difficult to get back once you've lost it. There's a few methods to obtaining what you seek - one would be to obtain the blessing of an Immortal Phoenix. Unfortunately, you won't find them anywhere at all on Earth - they're creatures native to the Otherworld. The closest one you could actually reach would be located at the Furnace of Eight Divisions on Mount Five Element - the forge is technically within the Otherworld, but it's quite the harrowing journey." She starts explaining, gesturing for you to follow her as she heads back inside her main palace."You said that would be one way. What are the other methods?" You ask while you walk beside her."Paradise herbs are a special kind of plant that grow in the Forest of Terror, on a hidden and secluded island. Eating just a bit of it can extend your lifespan by a thousand years, and this can be repeated as many times as you need...it's a useful way to make sure you can die naturally when you're ready to pass on." She admits, before continuing. "And the final method that I know of is to enter into a contract with King Yemma. He oversees all matters of death, and while he's quite a stickler for the rules, you may be able to spring some leniency with him if you can brave his bureaucracy and agree to help him out with matters that he's otherwise incapable of dealing with. It's not a path I would recommend treading lightly, the paperwork can crush lesser men quite literally." She advises, giving you some time to think."Alright, I'll have to think on how I want to go about it, then. Let's move on to the next thing for now...how can I become the best martial artist I could possibly be? I want a plan that can help me achieve this goal." You say, crossing your arms as Baba pours herself a cup of tea and takes a long and obnoxiously loud sip of it.
"Well, that's a more difficult one to answer. You've already done well by seeking out Mutaito and Korin. I would recommend seeking an audience with Kami someday, as he has access to training methods that surpass the ones available to mere mortals. Kami's two apprentices are both masters of martial arts and magic in their own right as well, but I would be wary of dealing with them - neither have a particularly friendly disposition, and..." She starts to explain, before trailing off."And...?" You prompt her, curious."Well, I cannot tell why, but I've had premonitions that suggest both will be responsible for an age of chaos and evil that will spread across the world. Yet, when I try to read into that future directly, it becomes fragmented and impossible to glean details of it. Perhaps there's simply too many possible futures involved that it hinders my magic..." She says with some reluctance, causing your eyebrows to shoot up in alarm."No way! Kami's own apprentices cause something like that? Is it on purpose, or an accident?" You ask, earning a shrug from her."I couldn't tell you. If you're that interested in it, though, then that's all the more reason to seek out Kami and his apprentices to learn from them...and about them." She replies, before clearing her throat. "To continue down the list, however...Martial Arts on Earth are woefully underdeveloped, all things said. You've already met the greatest ones of this age, and even greater ones won't appear for hundreds of years. However, if you were to somehow obtain permission to enter the Otherworld without dying, you would find masters from countless different worlds that have formed countless different styles and refined them to perfection over thousands of years. There's even some regional gods down there that have special techniques you'd be unable to learn anywhere else - the Kais of the otherworld. It would be an extraordinarily difficult accomplishment to be able to meet with them without dying first, but that's your best chance. Otherwise, you're going to have to refine your skills the longer and harder way - on Earth." She lays out the bad news."Aw man...I was hoping there were some hidden masters out there or something along those lines." You sulk, earning a chuckle from the old woman."There are, but they're nothing to write home about. Mutaito is the first mortal on earth to learn how to use Ki in thousands of years, it's only to be expected that lesser fighters simply wouldn't measure up." She says with a scoff, before raising a hand to poorly cover her mouth as she suddenly grins. "Of course, if you'd asked me about how to become the greatest mage on Earth, I'd have a lot more answers for you since there's a lot of hidden practitioners out there. Unfortunately, magic and martial arts are quite different, so you're out of luck for that unless you want to use your last request on it." She taunts, causing you to squint at her.
"Nah, I'm not going to take that bait. Azalea already told me how hard it is for most people to pick up magic - if you aren't born with talent for it, it usually takes a pretty long time to learn it. However, that does give me an idea...where can I find powerful magical treasures?" You ask, snapping your fingers at the thought."Hmph. Pretty smart workaround, I'll admit. There's a few things I can think of that may be worthwhile...the first and most obvious is one that you've been within spitting distance of before, the legendary Power Pole. It's the pillar that connects Korin's Tower to Kami's Lookout. It's capable of expanding any way you can think of out to hundreds of feet, and can contract into something the size of a hairpin. Besides that, there's the mythical Gourd of Mist that can be found among your friend Barbar's clan, which can entrap your enemies within and distil their essence down into water that can empower you if you drink it - it's a harsh tool to use, but nobody can deny how useful it is to gain strength from your enemies." She says, causing you to wince at the second one. It sounded a little too malevolent for you, but it might be worth looking into if only to make sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands..."It does sound pretty messed up, yeah." You admit, before letting her continue."Continuing, there's an ancient and powerful dragon that lives beneath the waves near Papaya Island. As the tales would put it, if you can find and defeat this dragon in battle, they'll gift you with anything from their body as your reward - its claws, its fangs, its scales, you name it. These items would be imbued with powerful magic, and would be virtually indestructible unless faced with a source of magic magnitudes stronger than the dragon itself. Then we have the Universal Ring, which is a completely and utterly invincible ring that can adjust its size on command, regardless of if something is in the way or not - I don't need to mention how dangerous this would be to anyone wearing it, but it'd be a remarkable tool for defence as well. The ring currently serves as the foundation for a wizard's tower in the northern tundras, so it might take some convincing to take it off his hands." She goes on, making you wonder just how many magic items there ARE out in the world.
"Kami's lookout is a storehouse for the most dangerous and rare magic items, of course, so all the best ones are kept under lock and key by him. But one thing he never looked into was a source of incredibly rare mystic ore, currently hiding at the bottom of the sea between here and West City. In fact, this ore comes from a splinter of a colossal meteorite that an ancient god once sent towards Earth - it's extremely faint now, but small traces of that god's energy still resonate within the metals trapped within, giving them their mystical properties. Anything forged from that material would be a truly terrifying weapon, capable of damaging even the immaterial." She finally finishes, before tilting back the rest of her tea in one go."Now that sounds cool! So I could cut through ghosts if I made something with that?" You ask, jabbing at nonexistent enemies as an example, and earning a nod from her."I'll write up more detailed information on where exactly to find everything you've asked me about, of course. But I HATE putting effort into things that won't go anywhere - is there anything I told you about that you're not particularly interested in?" She asks, snapping her fingers to get the attention of her etherial attendant who brings over a fancy quill pen and notebook to her.A few different things to consider, here!>You would pursue Paradise Herbs to extend your lifespan.>You'll go for the Phoenix to get immortality.>You'll try to get an audience with King Yemma somehow and see if you can negotiate a contract with him.and>You're planning to attempt to go to the otherworld while still alive in the future, seeking masters of the non-mortal variety.>You'll stick with the masters of Earth, as you'll eventually find yourself in the Otherworld one day anyways, whenever you expire.and finally...>You'll look into all of those treasures one day.>You don't want to look into one or more of those treasures (write-in what).Update getting too long, exposition heavy! >>5614377>You would pursue Paradise Herbs to extend your lifespan.>You'll stick with the masters of Earth, as you'll eventually find yourself in the Otherworld one day anyways, whenever you expire.>You'll look into all of those treasures one day.If we're going to live a thousand years, we might as well see EVERYTHING! We might not need it all, but it would be cool to learn about them.
>>5614377>You would pursue Paradise Herbs to extend your lifespan.>You're planning to attempt to go to the otherworld while still alive in the future, seeking masters of the non-mortal variety.>You don't want to look into one or more of those treasures (write-in what). Also an opportunity to see Barbar's clan
>>5614555Oh and I want to mine the meteor ore as wellSo I'm voting to ignore the ring and the power pole
>>5614384The others raise a good point. This is my vote, but the pole is least interesting to me. I also don't think the wizard would give us the foundation for his house (the ring) and it seems rude to ask unless he's evil.>>5614377
I mean, we could always just stop by the wizard, do a favor for him or something if he's willing, if not leave.I'd rather not skip by that entirely, although now that I think abut it yeah, may as well skip on the power pole.

>>5615243Not sure why we would want to ignore the power pole? I mean it is Kami's so it would be a case of only borrowing it in case of emergency or if we somehow need to fly that badly without spending the time to upgrade the air step into flight.Same for the ring, if the wizard is a decent individual then we would be borrowing it in case of emergency only or buying it off them somehow.Goku got good effect from the power pole alone for a long time so why would we handicap Honta? I mean if we aren't dealing with insane dragonball enemy scaling then we can chill for more challenge but if say piccolo has a 90% chance of just erasing us why not have at least the option to grab everything before throwing down?
You consider your options quite carefully, before speaking up. "I think I'll try to find those Paradise Herbs you mentioned. I like the option of just not taking them if I ever decide I'm ready to pass on to the otherside full-time." You start, cupping your chin. "And uh, speaking of the otherside, if you could include some tips on how to get there while still mortal, I'd be grateful for it." You add, earning a grumble from Baba."And the items?" She asks, already starting to scribble furiously on the paper. She actually writes pretty quickly, at least...as far as you can tell. It could just be actual scribbles or chickenscratch for all you know."I'll check all of them out, although I don't think I'll be taking the pole you mentioned. I'm trained with their use, but it doesn't suit my preferred fighting style - I like to get in close and break into people's guards to deal some damage, but staffs are mostly used for the oppos-" You start."I know!" She interrupts, shooting you a glare before her irritated expression settles down a little. "I know. My annoying little brother only talks about Martial Arts and Women, his two great passions. It gets a little repetitive to talk about fighting styles all the time, so forgive my irritability on the subject. You've met him, I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from." She explains, causing your eyebrows to once more shoot up in surprise."I've met him? But...hmm..." You contemplate, thinking about every old person you've met. Ahl? He'd have the same magical inclination as Baba, but he didn't seem to know anything at all about martial arts. The only other person of advanced age you really know about would be Mutaito...it couldn't be that simple, could it?"You're Mutaito's sister?" You ask, feeling confident in your educated guess. She barks out a laugh at that, before shaking her head."Completely off. I respect him, so you can tell we're not family. No, my little brother trained with you. Roshi." She reveals, causing your eyebrows to shoot so far up that they'd appear in the panel above this one if it were drawn in a manga."ROSHI? Your BROTHER is ROSHI?" You ask, in disbelief. "How does that even work? He's...he's the same age as me!""You see, when a man and a woman love each other very much, they-" She starts to say, and you lose memories of the next five minutes of your life for some mysterious reason. When you tune back in, you hear "And that's why they can still manage to have a kid at their age. Impressive, I know." as Baba finishes up her remarks. You turn to look at your trio of friends, dumbfounded, to find that their expressions mirror your own.
"But that little bit of trauma aside, I'll have every bit of information you'll need for your pursuits ready by tomorrow. For now, let's get the real reason why you're here over with already." She concludes, snapping her fingers once she's finished talking. With a sharp tone, a flickering image of someone's silhouette appears next to baba for about a second, before it solidifies into a familiar face that seems to be in the middle of watering something with a watering can. The water is now pouring out onto the floor, and it takes Yang a few moments to realize that she's been transported from whatever she was doing - she has an exhausted expression on her face, frankly."Oh, is it dinnertime already? It's easy to lose track of time when you're watering thousands of trees every day. Ha ha ha." She says, laughing in the dull monotone of someone that regrets getting into the line of work they did. Baba chuckles, shaking her head at the young girl, before gesturing to your group. "OH! It's you again, Honta and Barbar! And Azalea too! And..." Yang exclaims, life immediately reigniting in her eyes as she spots old friends. She does, however, take pause on trying to remember Harum. "...And someone I don't know!"Harum rubs the back of his head bashfully, before extending his free hand in greeting. "Oh, I'm Harum Bae. I met Honta about a year after his time at Teal's Castle, so we don't really know each other. It's nice to meet you, though!" He says, and she shakes his hand while nodding in understanding. You see Baba starting to float off to a different part of the palace, no doubt to finish her documents for you."Well, you all look like you've grown quite a lot! Especially you, Honta. You must have packed on a hundred pounds of mass since back then, looking pretty beefy these days. Kind of like a Barbar Junior, huh?" She says, looking up at you thanks to your current height difference. She's got a point - you actually did grow out and up in the past five years of rigorous training. Azalea, of course, takes the opportunity to pump her fist into the air as though she came out of something victorious."Ahah! See, I told you someone would notice, Barbar! I totally DID have a growth spurt! I gained a full INCH since we met!" She taunts right in Barbar's face, hands on her hips and swaying them with sass. "And one day, I'll be the tallest fairy to ever live. It's in my genes!" "Ok." Is his only response, causing the fairy to quite literally deflate from his lack of response to her gloating. Putting their shenanigans aside, you step in to give Yang a tight hug that pulls her off the ground, having missed one of your earlier friends greatly. For some reason, she seems to have quite the flushed face after you set her back down - you'll have to be careful not to hug people too tightly with your prodigious strength, you suppose.
"It's been too long since the last time we met! We heard you were training with baba, and we just finished up our training under Korin, so we thought we'd pay you a visit. See how things have been going, you know?" You excitedly blab, while Yang adjusts her hat to sit squarely on her head once more."Well, it's been...going..." She says, the life once more draining out of her voice as she recalls the time she spent here. "After I learned everything I possibly could from Ahl, he recommended me to Baba. She agreed to train me, but only if I found a way to draw in more customers. So I suggested planting some trees so that she's not situated in the middle of an inhospitable desert...but now I'm the one who has to take care of them. That means watering, pruning, and fertilizing over ten thousand trees..." She says, burying her face into her hands to restrain the regret. With a sigh, she drops her arms back down to her sides. "Even then, she's an insanely good teacher. These days I have more skill with magic than all three of those demons we fought, combined. She's harsh, but I'm pretty sure she uses her abilities to cheat and divine the best lesson plans for me each day.""Just think of it as a little physical training in addition to your magic training! A strong body begets a strong mind, as Mutaito says! Heheh, I actually had to do a lot of studying in my training with the old man. He said I had to shore up my weakest point." You admit, interlacing your fingers behind your head in a relaxed pose. From there, you two exchange stories of everything you've been up to over the years for the next few hours, taking a brief break to make and eat dinner with everyone in the process. You learned that she apparently encountered someone that was cursed to turn everything he touched into gold, and that she was able to free him from the curse by instead making it only trigger if he wanted it to...although, she did make it so that it only made things into food instead of gold, so that the economy wouldn't suffer from it. She also ended up meeting some crazy nudist that insisted he was wearing robes that only the wise could see, but she promptly called the cops on the pervert. Beyond that, she ultimately hadn't been up to much other than training - though she did apparently have a strong bond with the group of fighters here. She actually seems quite saddened at the loss of Medusa from the roster, as she was the only girl her age around here.
As far as her reactions to your adventures goes, she seemed pretty interested in what you told her about Demons Will Weep and the Living Curse, but relatively unphased by the knowledge of aliens - apparently Baba already told her that Earth's had visitors from outer space before. She teases you a bit about your relationship with Love, questioning just how 'saucy' things got, but thankfully your inability to withstand that type of pressure worked to your advantage; clamming up and being unable to say anything intelligible works pretty great for getting someone to change the subject! You'll take the secret of that bathtime mishap to your grave.Once everything is settling down, Baba ends up directing you to some guest rooms for the night. You spent about an hour talking to Love, as you often do, and she seems quite excited to hear about the progress of one of her old friends - she hadn't seen Yang in quite a while herself, and she was pretty much the only person remotely close to her age around the castle. Thankfully you don't find yourself flushing for too long from the memories of your conversation with Yang when talking to her, which spares you from most of your embarrassment on the matter. You do your best to disallow your mind from wandering to how saucy things COULD get, especially were you to visit the castle again. Regardless, after your last conversation has finally finished, you sleep like a baby that night thanks to how much the fights took out of you.The next day, Baba has an entire journal filled out with details pertaining to the fortunes you asked of her, which she hands off to you unceremoniously. It looks like you've got everything you might need here for now, so it's time to decide on your next course of action.>Kami's Lookout, without a doubt. Rolled 11, 17 = 28 (2d20)Ignore this roll! It's not for you.
Rolled 17 (1d20)>>5617459And this one. This one is for the poor fairy trying to do some physical activities.
Ultimately, after a lengthy battle in your mind between opposing ideas of where you want to visit next, your desire to meet the Kami of Earth wins out over everything else. Baba's words on what his apprentices will end up causing sticks in your mind, a feeling of dread building up within you before the old witch snaps you out of your thoughts. "Thirteen years. I can tell what you're thinking about, and you only have a little over thirteen years to prepare, by my estimates. That's when the calamity will take place." Baba warns you gravely."I'll keep that in mind. The future isn't set in stone, so...maybe I can change things." You reply, earning a snort from the elderly woman."Fat chance of that! But good luck anyways, it'll save me a lot of trouble if I don't have to rebuild this place." She shoots back. You tuck the book she gave you into your pack and give her a nod, before you take a few minutes saying your goodbyes to Baba's fighters and your old friend Yang. With your business here finally over, you and Babar both call over your Nimbuses and climb aboard them. Harum joins Barbar atop the Dark Nimbus, and seems quite amazed with the qualities of the solid cloud - if a bit nervous about the idea of riding on it without any way to secure himself, despite the fact that he could easily save himself if he fell. The four of you shoot off into the skies, your respective clouds leaving trails behind them as you head back towards Korin's tower. It honestly doesn't take you too long to return thanks to the incredible speeds that Nimbus can reach, and you're a good deal more confident in riding it than you were the first time you tried it, so you don't make any missteps that would otherwise result in it ejecting you mid-ride. Upon approaching the familiar spire, you try to urge the nimbus to ascend it for expediency's sake...but it actually refuses! Indeed, looking over at Barbar and Harum seems to reveal that both have phased through their cloud to land on the floor down below."Sorry, kids, but nobody gets a free ride up. Not even if they've already climbed up before. And one of you definitely hasn't done it before, so it goes especially for them." Korin's voice rings out in your mind, and judging by the reactions of your friends they seem to hear it too - his telepathy in action, it seems."Aww, come on! We're just heading up to Kami!" You try to reason as you think back at him, but you get a strong feeling of denial in return. With a sigh, you hope off the immobile nimbus, and ascend the tower swiftly due to your experience with it. Barbar is right behind you, but poor Harum hasn't endured Korin's conditioning before, so he ends up considerably slower. His progress isn't bad by any means, it's just not as effortless as what the two of you can accomplish. As for Azalea, a particularly small spark of electricity shoots out from the clouds and strikes her off your shoulder, only powerful enough to momentarily stun her.
"I was lenient with it before, but I mean it! No free rides. You'll have to earn the climb too, and don't even think about trying to cheat by flying with those wings!" Korin follows up, directed primarily at the poor fairy. You can see her sniffle as she falls, and you think you heard something about hating hard work, but you merely wish her good luck with your telepathy and resume your climb after the momentary interruption. It'll be better for her if she does get physical training like this in, after all...In barely any time at all, you flip yourself up past Korin's home and give him a wave as you soar past. With a quick application of the air-step, you redirect yourself towards the top of his tower, where you can see exactly what Baba's notes described: the Power Pole. It's embedded in some kind of receptacle clearly built just for it, so you and Barbar step forward to grab it near the top and focus your intent into it just as the instructions told you to: You will it to extend up until it hits something. Without any hesitation at all, it starts to lengthen at an incredible rate, propelling the two of you up even further into the sky.Just a few moments before it would have felt impossible to breathe from how thin the atmosphere was, it breached some particularly high cloud cover and slides into place into a receptacle at the bottom of your destination - Kami's lookout, which from your perspective right now is a brightly painted half-sphere simply floating in the air, with a ladder built into it that you can use to make your way to the top. You and Barbar nod at each other and start to ascend it properly, noticing that the air is actually getting EASIER to breathe as you approach the surface of the lookout. Once you climb atop it, you're greeted with the sight of a beautiful and well-kept garden...although you can't say you expected palm trees in a place like this. While the both of you look around the grounds in amazement, a voice speaks up from directly behind you. "Forgive me for not greeting you right away. I didn't notice that we had visitors, as my focus was on gardening." It says, causing the two of you to whirl around to see who it belongs to. The voice's owner is a rather portly looking man with jet-black skin, wide-open eyes that remind you of Spreen's, cherry red lips, and a rather exotic looking outfit. Plus a watering can, of course!"Ah, no! Forgive us for not announcing ourselves, we were too busy admiring your work!" You reply, bowing your upper body immediately with Barbar following suit after a delay. The black man chuckles, before bowing in return, clearly pleased with your manners."That's quite fine, we love to have visitors. It's been quite a while since we've had anyone able to make it up here. You can call me Mr. Popo, I'm Kami's attendant." He introduces himself, and you take the opportunity to introduce yourselves as well.
"I'm Honta! Wyald Honta." You say while pointing to yourself."Barbar. Just Barbar." Your more surly friend follows up, earning a nod from Popo."It's my pleasure to meet you, Wyald Honta and Just Barbar. I would take you to see Kami immediately under normal circumstances, but I'm afraid he's in the middle of an important counsel with his apprentices right now. It may take an hour or two for him to be free. If you'd like, I can entertain you until then - or perhaps you could lend me a hand with my work?" He offers with an apologetic smile, to which you give a nod in return."Of course we'll help! We're guests, so it's our responsibility to be unobtrusive and helpful." You say, Popo's smile widening into a more genuine one. Over the next two hours, you end up helping him tend to the various plants dotting the lookout and learn a surprising amount about botany in the process - he's clearly a master of the field, and he teaches you quite a few facts about the plants you're tending to and the best methods for taking care of them and ensuring they're as healthy as possible. In the middle of said work, Popo stands back up and wipes some non-existent sweat off his brow, gesturing to the entrance of Kami's palace afterwards."Lord Kami is free to see you now. Please show the utmost respect towards him - though, I have no fear that you'll do otherwise." He says, before snapping his fingers. In an instant, all of the dirt and sweat on you and Barbar's bodies evaporate into nothingness, leaving you both pristine...and faintly smelling of lavender, actually. It's a nice touch for whatever magic Popo used, you admit to yourself. The two of you bow once more to Popo, before proceeding towards the directed chamber. Your heart is pounding in your chest from the anticipation of standing before the God of Earth...
When you step through the grand doors leading to his audience chamber, you're greeted by the sight of a human shrouded in robes sitting upon a strangely hostile looking throne. He gives off an unapproachable air, emanating an unseen power that you couldn't even call ki. There's no true force to it at all, but it feels harder to breathe in his presence - you'd equate it to the all-encompassing pressure of the deep sea that grows stronger with every step you take. His eyes raise to meet yours, before flickering briefly over to Barbar's."You've done well to reach this place, mortals. Not only did you prove your might against Korin, but you passed Popo's test by acting with kindness. As you're already well aware, I am the one known as Kami - Guardian of Earth. What have you come seeking?" He asks, tone carrying a regal and serious feel to it. You take a moment to consider it - you're here for a few different things actually, but the first among them would probably be:>Training under the greatest of Earth, Kami himself.>Asking for Kami's aid to enter the Otherworld.>Discussing the matter of his apprentices...>A fight. It may be sacrilegious, but you want to have a friendly spar with Kami, to see how you stand against the might of God.>Something else...? "We're here for a few different reasons, actually. But for the most part, we wanted to train under you." You admit, bowing your upper body to Kami at the same time as Barbar for once; it seems your mentor isn't blind to the gravitas of the situation. Kami sits back in his throne, raising a fist to support his head as he takes a long and hard look at the two of you. It's a tense few moments of silence before he finally speaks back up."Why?" Is all that he asks, causing you to blink in surprise. "B-because we want to improve ourselves?" You ask, unsure how exactly to answer the question. That's the reason you've always had, right? You look to Barbar, who shakes his head and speaks up as well."That's just one part of it. We enjoy it. We find thrill in fighting our opponents, whether it's a friendly spar or a struggle for survival. It's in our blood, you could say." He admits, causing you to sweat a bit from how bloodthirsty he made it sound. Kami, however, seems to adopt a light smile at that."You have a lot in common with my apprentices, then. Perhaps you'd get along with them, though I'm afraid you would pose absolutely no challenge to either of them at your current level. Not even I do, in fact - they far surpass me in strength." Kami reveals, causing you to adopt a look of confusion."Huh? But aren't they training under you?" You ask for clarification, receiving a nod from him."Indeed. But they are training to take on my duties, which don't formally involve fighting in any way. The role of Guardian is more akin to an observer, one who watches over the development of their world. Some Guardians have taken it upon themselves to personally intervene in matters before, but generally we prefer a hands-off approach outside of the most dire of circumstances." He explains, lowering his arm back down and sitting forward now. "I would not be able to teach you any fighting styles, though I do know of esoteric techniques that may interest in. In the interest of honesty and transparency, were I to take you both on as my students, my focus would be on refining the purity and resolve of your hearts.""Purity of our hearts...? Oh! So it'd be a lot of meditation to remove evil and wicked thoughts from us?" You respond, to which the Kami nods once more."Yes. It is something my current students struggle with greatly...though I sense you would have a much easier time of it than them." He says, gesturing to you, before he shifts to point at Barbar. "Although the darkness within you would be more stubborn than your younger friend's." He states as a matter of fact. Barbar's frown deepens at that, though he doesn't at all object to it - he already knows well his internal turmoil."That sounds useful, apparently there are attacks out there that can kill anyone with the slightest amount of evil in them!" You say, recalling what Spike told you prior to trying to unleash his ultimate attack on you. Kami, however, shakes his head a bit.
"The true purpose of the training is not to withstand such things. It is to ensure that those who possess power have the wisdom to act accordingly with that power - and the wisdom to not act at all, sometimes. Guardians have access to a great number of things that could easily be abused if placed in the wrong hands, so purity of heart has always been an absolute requirement." He clarifies, before continuing on. "If you have no interest in such things, then I can assign you to train under my apprentices instead. I believe the exercise would teach them lessons in patience that would do them well. Piccolo! Garlic! Come to me." He calls out.Two figures immediately flicker into existence in front of Kami's throne, bowed down before him on their knees - judging by the brief flare of energy you sensed and the gust of wind following them, their appearance must have been the result of extremely high-speed movement that even you couldn't track instead of teleportation. Both are wearing robes and hunched over at the moment such that you can't see them well, though they raise their heads to their master and speak in unison. "What do you need of us, Lord Kami?" They ask."Stand. We have two guests here, which seek to improve themselves. I have given them a choice: to train under me, as additional apprentices-" He starts, to which you can sense the sudden tension in both of their bodies before he continues "- or under one of you, as you are both stronger than I in the fields that interest them. Though I would be glad to have more students personally, I must admit that it would be a wonderful learning experience for the both of you, so if they choose as much I expect you to respect that and do your best to mentor them." He finishes, the two students standing up now as commanded. They turn around, revealing their appearance to you. One has green skin, with bulging pink spots noticeable along his arms. His ears end in sharp points akin to an elf's, and two sluglike antennae seem to be jutting out of his head. There's no doubt about it, especially with the name that Kami uttered earlier - this 'Piccolo' person must be the alien that lived in Yunzabit Heights! You're honestly quite shocked to not only find him alive, but to find him HERE of all places.
The one that must be Garlic, conversely, has light teal skin with no buglike antennae at all, though he does bear similar ears to Piccolo. His nose hooks downwards sharply and makes his expression seem more severe and judgemental, and judging by what glimpses you can catch during his grimace he seems to have fangs in his mouth that remind you of Fangs - the vampire, that is. You briefly wonder if the two might be loosely related at all, given the similar pallor..."Piccolo is the stronger of the two, physically. Should you wish to master the physical arts, you would do well to practice under his instruction." Kami states, gesturing to the green one and earning a narrowing of the eyes from the other one. "Garlic, however, holds the sharper mind. I have no doubt that he may be able to start you on the path of magic despite your lack of innate talent, though he certainly knows well how to wield his Ki, if I'm remembering correctly." He shifts his hand to direct your gaze to the teal one, this time earning a clenched jaw from Piccolo. It seems that neither student is particularly fond of each other, from what you can tell. And neither are they fond of the possibility of more competition, should you elect to train under Kami...>You chose Kami. Purity and resolve don't seem immediately useful, but...you can't help but feel like they'll be important someday. Besides, he did have a few techniques that may come in handy.>You chose Piccolo. You knew his story, and...you can't help but feel like there's a loneliness in his heart. Maybe just having a friend could go a long way in helping stop his part in things.>You chose Garlic. He was the unknown, and you needed to get to know him better to find out his role in the calamity before it happens. Besides, the idea of learning magic has always seemed appealing to you, despite your lack of talent with it.>Mr. Popo! Never let them guess your next move. Besides, he was nice, and you can't help but feel he had hidden power.

You don't answer immediately, taking your time to consider not only the potential benefits you could render from training under any of them, but of the duty you tasked yourself with. Kami himself was almost guaranteed to not be directly involved in whatever would happen in the future, and you can tell both from talking with him and from how his energy feels that he's a deeply responsible individual who would never put the world in danger, intentionally or otherwise. Piccolo's energy is by far the most vast in the room, feeling overwhelmingly massive even as suppressed as it currently is, but that same energy is tainted with resentment and a hidden hatred. Garlic, however...Garlic is by far the one you know the least about, his energy concealed perfectly and not permitting you to get a read on his deepest intent. You know nothing of his personality, his history, or his goals. With that in mind..."I would like to train under Garlic, Lord Kami. I hope that's alright with you all." You say, cracking a friendly smile to your future mentor. Garlic gives a wide smirk in return, one that shows off his fangs quite well, and you can hear cracking from Piccolo's fist as he clenches it harder off to the side. You glance to Barbar to see what his own decision would be, to find him still deep in thought for now."Very well then. I look forward to seeing progress from the both of you...and remember, this isn't a competition. This is simply for the betterment of the self and others, my apprentices." Kami speaks up, reminding Piccolo that your choice doesn't reflect upon him."We understand, Lord Kami." Both of them say in unison, though you still catch the smug look that Garlic shoots towards his rival. "There's no time to begin like the present, so let's get to it, shall we? Your stores of magical power are pitiful, but that will actually work to your advantage when starting out. Come with me." Garlic alone continues on to say, stepping forward to clasp a hand on your shoulder. As he's leading you out, you do happen to catch Barbar's decision as he finally speaks up on the matter."I'd like to train under you, Kami. To face the impurities within myself and conquer them." Your grizzled friend exclaimed, causing Garlic himself to momentarily pause and squeeze your shoulder a little bit harder than he clearly intended to, a spike of fury clear on his face. Moments later, it's gone like it was never there to begin with, and he continues to take you out to a different room of the Lookout. The place you arrive at is strangely dark, with the most noticeable piece of decor being an arcane circle glowing a faint red in the center of the floor. Thanks to your decent low-light vision, you can make out the shapes of clocks dotting the walls, their pendulums swinging in precise timing to tick their hands forward in tiny increments - you can hear the clicks clearly, irritatingly enough. Garlic releases you here, and gestures towards the circle in the center.
"This, my dear student, is the Room of Time. By standing within the magic circle, I can project your consciousness anywhere through time - the past, the present, even the future. No dangers you encounter using this room will affect you physically, so I can assure you that you're going to be relatively safe while using it." Your new master explains, somehow managing to say it in a way that doesn't reassure you whatsoever."I can't help but notice that you specified physically, and relatively." You point out with a nervous chuckle, getting a chuckle from Garlic in return."Well, it can't protect from mental damage. If you die, you'll still suffer the stress that dying causes. So I would advise you to do your best to avoid that - it's unpleasant, to say the least." He explains, and you get the feeling that he might know from personal experience. You give him a nod, and go to stand in the center of the circle."Now, the reason why we're using this right away is because I'm almost certain that you're the kind of person that thrives under pressure. If we want you to learn how to tap into the miniscule reserves of Magic Power dwelling within you, then we need to do so by making your mind and body feel as though it has no other choice than to do so. 'Do or die', although without any risk of actually dying of course...the tricky part will be manufacturing a scenario where no amount of physical strength or life energy will be able to bail you out." He continues, moving over to one of the clocks while tapping a finger on his chin a few times in contemplation."Magic is about enforcing your will and belief on the world, right? Do you have any tips that might help me get it down quicker?" You ask, silently wondering just what he's about to pit you up against."Yes, that's right. You must know other magic users to know as much...although it goes a bit deeper than that. Desire, above all else, is necessary for magic - willpower and belief reinforce the attempt, certainly, but you have to want it to happen. You have to want it more than anything else at the singular moment of casting - that desire will draw forth the magical power within you, and use it to take form. From then on, willpower and belief alike are used to shape the resulting spell, to determine the specific details of how it influences the world." He explains, apparently quite a bit more knowledgeable about the minutiae of magic than Azalea was."I see! That actually explains a lot. Thanks, Master Garlic." You reply with a slight bow. Garlic seems to think nothing of the thanks, and he takes a few moments in silence to examine the clock faces before him. Finally, he snaps his fingers.
"I know exactly where to send you. A tragic tale from over two hundred years ago on a planet far, far away. Kami once told me of it, as a warning of just how dangerous Sorcery can be in the wrong hands. Good luck, my protege." Garlic says, reaching out to turn the hands of one of the clocks backwards rapidly. The circle below you starts to glow more intensely, before a flash of light blinds you momentarily to the world. You hiss from the minor pain of your eyes having to adjust to the sudden light, blinking as your pupils vacillate between trying to contract and trying to dilate to get a clear picture of what's around you. When you finally have sight again, you're certainly no longer on the lookout - you can smell ash and smoke in the air. Screaming people with pink skin and red hair move in a flurry past you, running away from something you can't quite see yet. Concrete buildings all around you show clear damage to them, some of them being entirely caved in or engulfed in flames, and the ground is shaking every few seconds for some reason. It's a chaos the likes of which you've never seen before, and your first instinct is to reach out to help an older man that stumbled from the crowd and fell over.As you're helping him up, he looks up to you with confusion at your unusual features, before pointing behind you. "R-run! We have to run!" He shouts in a panic, and you follow his finger to a towering figure moving past the street. The creature is encased in a thick carapace that you're certain you wouldn't be able to even scratch with your full effort, and its head strongly resembles a skull - its existence practically screams that it's the incarnation of death itself, as evident by the positively overwhelming energy it gives off. Even Piccolo's humongous reserves feel like a drop in comparison to this creature, and it paralyses you in a moment of primal fear. The giant stops where it is, turning to face you and the crowd of people fleeing from it. It opens its mouth up with a roar, and a blue ball of energy starts to form between its jaws. After just a few seconds, the energy lances out, swiping across the majority of the fleeing crowd and disintegrating everything caught in the blast in an instant. You move to dive for cover, but before you know it, the beam is upon you as well......And you find yourself standing in the middle of the circle of the Room of Time, covering yourself from a nonexistent blast and screaming from the residual pain. Garlic is looking at you with a frown, and he shakes his head with disappointment."That was less than a minute. We'll do it again, until we get it right. Remember, you don't have to defeat it...you just have to find a way to survive. Your desire to survive will draw the magic out of you." He advises, and while you're clutching your head and still trying to get your bearings straight, he starts to rewind the clock once more. This might take a while...
And indeed it does - for the first three months, you remember nothing but dying over and over and over and over to that wretched creature. You've tried everything you can think of to survive, only for it to meet with continual failure. At around the end of the first month, Harum and Azalea managed to join you up on the lookout, though your mind was too frazzled from facing constant death to hold proper conversations with them after your rigorous training sessions with Garlic. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you recall that Harum seems to have arranged to train under Piccolo, while Azalea is both learning and gardening with Mr. Popo every day.Today is different, however. As you stand in front of the beast in front of you, knowing full well that even if you were to put your entire lifeforce into your strongest attacks that it would fail miserably, something clicks within you. A desire to survive, at all costs, no matter what stands in the way of doing so. Not even reality itself would stop this desire, and for the first time you feel an unfamiliar energy emerging from your body to manifest in this illusory world...but what form did this magical power take, on your first usage of it?>Protection: You wanted to shield yourself from the overwhelming might of the creature.>Transportation: You wanted to be somewhere else, out of the creature's current path of destruction.>Alteration: You wanted to change your body, and make it impossible for the creature to bring harm to you.>Something else? So it strikes me as being very valuable.
>>5619801>Alteration: You wanted to change your body, and make it impossible for the creature to bring harm to you.I'd be willing to bet that Alteration is the most likely to net us a 'White Tiger' transformation way later down the line. It can permanently alter the properties of any creature you cast it on after 24 hours, though it requires intimate knowledge of the changes you're making to make sure the process goes smoothly.>Enchantment - The art of creating magic items. For the most part, it's causing an item to hold a spell that you know within itself, which it casts under certain conditions. They typically require rare components if you don't want them to consume themselves upon use.>Mist of Darkness - A spell to generate a black mist that spreads out exponentially as long as you keep supplying it with power. >>5620469That's one potential use of it, yes! Although, as the description states, you'd need intimate knowledge of exactly what changes you'd need to make in order to do so without any hitches or unintended side-effects. For example, if you learned about telomere shortening and study a creature that lacks the issue, you could potentially alter yourself or another so that their telomeres remain intact - essentially extending your natural lifespan and slowing aging by doing so.

The spell soon wrapped itself around your body after emerging, the idea of what you wanted helping to give it shape. In fact, you wanted nothing more than to make it impossible for the creature to hurt you as it brings its titanic fist down to try to smash you into the ground and turn you into little more than a meat paste. In the instant before it would contact you, everything goes momentarily dark as all of your senses shut off - but you can tell that it didn't hit you, or you would feel the all too familiar pain of dying from such a thing. A few seconds later, the haze on your mind lifts, and you find yourself standing atop its fist rather than under it. You blink in surprise while it glares hatefully down at you, and feel the illusion of this battle suddenly fading around you.Once you register yourself standing within the Room of Time once more, you see Garlic standing in a victorious pose with his fist clenched and held aloft towards the sky. "Finally! After three months, we've finally managed to draw out your latent potential for magic." He proclaims, turning to you with a sharp grin. His intense facial features almost make it seem malicious, though you know that it's likely genuine given how frustrated he's been with how difficult it was to unlock your power to begin with. "And quite the useful affinity, as well. Your first spell is one I've seen few beginners manifest, which changes the body into an immaterial form...it shows that your inclination is towards altering the properties of things." He explains, and it clicks for you exactly what you did."Oh! Ohhhh! That's why I wasn't hurt even when it hit me!" You say, snapping your fingers and earning a nod from Garlic."That's right. Your spell briefly turned your body into mist, and that allowed you to flow around it, from what I could tell." He states, while he moves over to clasp you on either shoulder. "Your potential in this field may be greater than I initially thought. Your magic power may be miniscule, but we can always fix that through hard work now that you can utilize it. Perhaps I should have Nicky gather some ingredients for a potion that could accelerate things..." He says, adding the last part under his breath as he devolves into muttering to himself about ways to improve you."Nicky?" You ask, interrupting his mumbling. He pats your shoulders a few times in a way that makes you think he momentarily forgot you were still there, before lowering his hands back to his side, shaking his head at you.
"Nobody you need to worry about, just one of my loyal servants. I'm something of a royal, despite the fact that I'm up here training under Kami. My people support me wholeheartedly in my effort to become the next Kami, and that means they'll provide you any support I ask them to for your training." He reveals, which takes you by surprise. You didn't really expect that you were in the presence of royalty this whole time - though it does explain his apparent intelligence, since you expect most royals would be raised with a good education. "Woah, no way! That's really cool, where are you from?" You ask, which has him smirk a little bit wider but wave it off."Way. But we can get into that some other time, because now comes the hard part of your training. Theory." He says with a grave tone, causing you to pale. Dying repeatedly to an illusion wasn't what he would consider the hard part...? You'd pray to Kami for mercy, but somehow you don't think Kami would bail you out when it comes to the terrible trials of studying.Another six months of your life goes by in the blink of an eye, with your brain being completely fried at the end of each day from having to memorize countless theories and interactions in the field of Magic. It's clear that Garlic approaches it much like one would a science, rather than a mystical art, and to his credit it actually does make digesting the information and acting on it a little bit easier for you compared to trying it through gut instinct and unexplained nonsensical rituals. In addition, he would have you practice your magic until your reserves of magical power were completely empty every single day, to work them much like a muscle in order to grow it slowly but surely.More than that, however, you learn about Garlic himself - how his people are actually not native to Earth and arrived from another world that approaches this one every five thousand years. They're called Makyans, and his ancestor created a castle where the few members of his people tend to stay out at the red sea...you have your suspicions that Garlic may be Spice's master at this point, but can't quite confirm it. Garlic seems to hold himself to a high standard, and whenever he isn't training you personally you can see that he puts a great deal of effort into his own training both with and without Kami.
Occasionally, he is tasked to spar with Piccolo, and he approaches the fights with a great degree of animosity and malice - usually trying to inflict pain to get Piccolo to yield, using his magic and physical combat skills in conjunction with one another. Sadly for him, Piccolo's overwhelming might tends to render his efforts useless, and Garlic loses far more often than the scarce times he wins. Kami always seems particularly disappointed in the two after these spars, with them failing some unspoken lesson for it. On such days, Garlic's mood is more sour than usual, and your training efforts tend to involve a practical application of magic; attempting to use them to defend yourself against him, which always ends poorly for you.The days pass more and more, and your mental and physical exhaustion ultimately ends up taking a toll on your relationship with Love. Approximately two years after you first started dating, she tells you that she's unable to keep waiting for you forever - she loves you, but she has a duty to fulfil as the heir, and needs someone who will actually be there with her instead of adventuring about the world. She breaks it to you as gently as she can, and you do understand exactly where she's coming from with it, but it still makes your heart ache to think about nonetheless. You throw yourself deeper into training to take your mind off of it, though your friends and even Garlic himself all take the time to console you about it. It's actually soon after the breakup that you learn that Garlic himself once had a wife, though she's out of the picture now with only himself to raise the son they had together. You can't help but hope from the bottom of your heart that you're never put in the same scenario. After eighteen full months of training with Garlic, you've managed to learn not only the fundamentals of magic, but you've picked up several spells of his own - many of which relate to the mist you find yourself at ease manipulating. You can generate a fast-spreading blanket of black mist that dulls the senses of all who are caught within it save yourself, whilst also creating illusory clones of yourself out of that same mist, which you've found to be a devastatingly effective combination for avoiding damage in your spars.
He also managed to impart upon you a lengthy ritual, which can be used to permanently alter living beings when used upon them. In the process of learning that particular spell, he took you from Kami's Lookout to his impressive and daunting castle within the Red Sea, in order to show you an example of what such magic could produce. There, in the courtyard, he plucked a bright red apple from a tree growing there, and offered it to you. You accepted it graciously, of course, and upon eating it you found it to be not only exceptionally delicious...but quite intoxicating. The rest of that day was a blur, admittedly, but you do distinctly remember playing strange dice games with some of Garlic's peculiar looking people and losing quite terribly. Upon waking up in an unfamiliar bedroom, Garlic apparently had his personal attendant Spice - who you enthusiastically shook hands with, having suspected he might be here - assist you in becoming presentable once more before he took you back to the lookout. That incident, at least, confirmed your suspicions of who Spice's master was. And indeed, just as Barbar said, Spice's energy had a distinctly malevolent tinge to it, despite his otherwise friendly and polite demeanour. In fact, every Makyan that you'd felt in the castle had a similar evil feel, leaving you with a heavy feeling on what Garlic's eventual role-to-be would be the result of. You didn't let your apprehension show, hiding your thoughts and feelings from your new master as you returned to Kami's.Not long after such incident, you decided to conclude your training with the man, feeling as though you've learned a good amount of what you wanted to - both of magic, and of Garlic's true nature. You can't confirm it, but you strongly suspect that Garlic has evil intentions for pursuing Guardianship, and only seeks the betterment of himself and his people over the benefit of Earth. Through telepathy, you confide as much in your companions on the day that you decided to end the training, much to their concern. As far as their own training goes, Barbar's energy feels significantly calmer than it used to. His rough edges and critical nature have softened into a diligent patience, though small cracks of his old ways do still show. Harum's physique has exploded even more than it did when he undertook Mutaito's training, as he's now larger and bulkier than Piccolo himself by a wide margin - and though his ki doesn't feel much stronger than yours, it definitely closed the gap in his favour, mostly due to the fact that you were refining an entirely different kind of energy within yourself. Azalea showed the most progress, as your newly-attuned magical senses show her absolutely brimming with magical power that grew in leaps and bounds over the course of her time with Popo. She keeps a tight lid on what she learned from him, apparently wanting it to be a surprise.
After your telepathic conversation ends, you approach Kami's throne in the afternoon, kneeling before him as you did a year and a half ago. "Lord Kami, it is my intention to end my training under Master Garlic now. I have not learned everything I possibly could under him, but there are other things I feel I must do for now. I hope you understand." You say to the elderly Guardian. He leans back in his throne, gaze piercing into you for a few seconds before he speaks up."Very well. If that is your choice, I shall respect it. We all have our reasons and goals in life, so I understand. However, I must ask...what is it you intend to do next, Wyald Honta? Will you ask for my aid to enter the Otherworld, as I know you've been planning to do? Will you seek training elsewhere, now that you've finished spying upon my student? Or will you continue to wander the world, seeking the thrills that your blood compels you to?" He asks, causing the very blood he mentioned to run cold. He's seen through you this entire time? Then why has he permitted it...? No, perhaps he was counting on you to do exactly what you've been doing? Does he, too, suspect his students? Your mind races for an answer.>Tell him what you suspect about Garlic now. He deserves to know.>Don't tell him yet. This update's taking a while to create! Today was quite busy as well, so the update will be out tomorrow. Gomenasorry, folks! In the meanwhile, does this count as blackface for tiger people?
>>5622091wearing a full body mascot costume of barack obamna, while inherently racist would be incredibly eery
>>5622155This. It's not blackface. It's far worse. It's wearing an (immitation? hopefully?) Of the skinned and tanned hide of a black dude as a onesie. It's not just racist, it's the sort of thing likely to disgust and terrify even other racists.(Though if tigers are to tigermen as great apes or monkeys are to humans, it may be slightly less creepy and awful, while still slightly off-putting)
>>5622091I mean, unless tiger onesies have sort of historical context to it I don't see them caring.
Admittedly, it's hard not to wilt under the severity of Kami's gaze. Despite that, however, he's surprisingly patient in waiting for his answer, not rushing you at all as you compose your thoughts into a coherent manner even as your rising heartbeat tries to appeal to your fight or flight instinct. Pushing down your lesser instincts and straightening yourself up to look him in the eye, you finally compose your response. "None of the above, Lord Kami. I have a duty to complete, and that duty compels me to look into certain matters that require me to be elsewhere. I promise you, I only have good intentions." You say, earning another one of Kami's mysterious smiles."Your wisdom is growing with age, I see. Come to me when you've found what you seek, then. I suspect I already know what it may be, but it would be ill fitting for one in my position to act on suspicions alone. Action is far more important than intent or thought, after all...for what we do can never be undone, but our hearts can always grow better with time." He states, seeming a lot older than he usually looks as he imparts his own wisdom on you. You give a firm and resolute nod in return, before speaking up."Thank you for everything so far, Lord Kami." You return, bowing your head again. There's still much you don't know about the mysterious old man, but for as much as he intimidates you with his aura and presence, you can't help but feel he has a kind and soft spot within him. He wouldn't have been selected by the previous kami had he not carried everyone's best interests in mind, after all. But, pushing that aside, you turn around and proceed to walk out of the throne room, feeling far more certain that you're doing the right thing now.On the courtyard of the lookout, you spy Azalea and Mr. Popo in the middle of tending to garden as usual. You had wanted to do this mission alone to reduce the odds of you being spotted as much as possible, but exactly as you're thinking such things your fairy friend glances up from her work and immediately perks up with one of her usual glowing smiles...and you mean that literally, she gives off a little bit of light whenever she grins like that. She flitters over to you, naturally, and immediately starts to pepper you with questions."Heya, Honta! Whatcha up to today? Taking the day off? Heading somewhere cool? Will there be sweets where you're going? Can I come and get some with you?" She asks in rapid succession, not leaving you much room to speak."I, uh, yeah! I just need a break from Master Garlic's training, it's as intense as always, you know. I'd be glad to have you join me." You say, turning away from her once more to find Popo standing right in front of you suddenly, a large picnic basket held in his hands. He offers it forward to you with his unsettlingly friendly smile.
"Lord Kami wanted me to make sure you had everything you needed for your trip. You should find plenty of delicious provisions for you! I hope you enjoy them." the attendant says. You take it after a moment of hesitation, bowing your head to Popo this time as you thank him, and he wishes you well as you and Azalea both head back down to Korin's Tower - as you've come to find, the Nimbus simply can't go all the way up to Kami's lookout for some reason...then again, you suppose it is above all other clouds, so it may have something to do with that. Once you've slid down the power pole and are back down at the tower proper, you put a finger up to your lips in a silent shushing motion towards Korin, who only raises an eyebrow at your shenanigans but otherwise doesn't question them. Per your telepathic request, he calls the Nimbus out for you, which you immediately hop on and pat - you didn't really get to use him all that much prior to starting your training, but you still missed the little guy. You briefly wonder if it has the capacity to miss people as well, but you suppose you'll never know just how much intelligence this mystical flying marshmallow bears. With Azalea on your shoulder, the two of you shoot off into the sky, heading towards the Red Sea that you briefly visited once before.Even with the prodigious speeds afforded to you by the Nimbus, it takes a few hours to get there. You can tell you're getting close when the sky starts to shift colors towards a deep crimson and the clouds all adopt a yellow hue, as though the area was trapped in a perpetual sunset - it looked exactly the same the last time you were there, after all. The golden clouds work to your advantage, as you drop the Nimbus down into them on your approach in order to not be seen - honestly, with how closely the clouds cling to the sea in this particular area, it makes the castle look as though it's floating high in the sky as opposed to jutting out of the sea itself as it actually is. Once you've finally closed the distance, you quickly and quietly spring off of the Nimbus and onto one of the lowest balconies of Garlic's castle, landing first on an air-step to bleed off the momentum in a silent manner before simply stepping down onto the stonework. Admittedly, you don't remember a significant amount regarding the layout of the structure, and you're sure that Garlic and his minions both kept you from wandering into areas that you're not supposed to be...you find it rather unfortunate that your drunken memories are so hazy, but you at least have the awesome might of the Far-Seeing arts to help you. You simply have to find a place to safely use it, now that you're in range, so you reach out to Azalea telepathically to go over the plan with her.
"We need to find a place to hide out for a bit, somewhere big enough to fit the both of us and unlikely to be used by anyone anytime soon. Help me look, alright?" you think at her, which she responds to with a thumbs up with her tongue sticking out in her usual goofy manner."You can count on me! Operation 'Crouching dragon, hidden tiger' is a go!" she thinks back, before she darts into the picnic basket that Popo had given you. Not exactly what you had in mind, but- "Here, we should wear these first!" She interrupts your thoughts as she pops back out with two sets of tags with what you can easily identify as arcane symbols scrawled upon them. You don't have much time to examine them, but you can tell they're supposed to invoke some of Kami's power to aid you somehow - regardless, Azalea slaps one on your forehead, and the other on her chest since otherwise it would completely obscure her view. Within moments of doing so, even while directly looking at Azalea, you find it harder than usual to focus on her - she grabs your attention no more than an ordinary table would, even if that table didn't quite belong here, it just didn't seem like something worth your time unless you had nothing better to do."Woah! That's so weird. Let's be careful not to lose track of each other with this...but still, it should help a lot! I'll have to thank Kami again when I see him." You think towards Azalea, earning an enthusiastic nod from her. The momentary distraction aside, the two of you set out to find an adequate hiding spot, and eventually settle on a simple closet near what you can only assume must be a sauna. The closet is only filled with towels, naturally, so you climb up into one of the cubbies carefully and set some towels in front of you just in case anyone decides that now of all times would be a great time for a steam bath. Now appropriately hidden, you retract your senses into yourself, entering a meditative state that should allow you to use the Far-Seeing Arts to their fullest.
Soon enough, your senses then project outward as you've trained them to, your mind free to explore the compound with no risk at all. You wish you could say that your exploration of Garlic's castle in such a manner was a quick thing, but the architecture is truly labyrinthine and difficult to parse - not just for you, it seems, as you caught the only-slightly-familiar Vinegar trying and failing to find something several rooms in a row, as evident by the dull and confused look on his face. You search high and low throughout the castle for what must be at least half an hour before you finally stumble upon something different - a wall of the castle's extensive library that you can't move your sight through like you can all other matter. In fact, it seems there may be an entire room within there that's warded as such, based on your extrasensory technique poking and prodding at it from multiple directions and angles. If you're to find what he's hiding anywhere, it'd be there...Of course, it couldn't possibly go that smoothly, as your search is interrupted when your body hears the door to the closet opening up. You're frozen stiff, not daring to move a single muscle as Vinegar grabs a towel from the same shelf you're hiding on. His eyes glaze over your form hidden behind them, apparently thinking nothing of your presence, before he shuts the door again. You can hear him loudly complaining "Finally! Why couldn't we put this damn Sauna next to the training room, how is anyone supposed to relax if you can't find the damn place?!" as he walks off into the steamroom, apparently having been looking forward to it this entire time. Thirty minutes to find a single room...you sympathize, kind of.You climb out of your hiding spot soon after, flushing from yet ignoring Azalea's following mental quip about relaxing with her someday. Relying on the mental map you've made of Garlic's castle, coupled with your ability to feel out the comparatively huge lifeforce of the Makyans inhabiting the castle, you manage to make your way all the way to the library without any more close encounters. There, it's a relatively quick and simple matter to check every book for the shelf connected to the impenetrable wall you noted earlier, and you find one in particular that triggers a mechanism that has the shelf swing inward with the walls.
Pumping a fist victoriously, you make your way inside of the dimly lit room beyond, making sure to press a button on the wall that you accurately guess closes the secret entrance from within. The room is absolutely covered with arcane sigils, and the walls are lined with tables that are filled to the brim with various apparatus used for both Alchemy and the art of Enchantment - and, rather unfortunately, you note a pile of discarded bones in the corner, with human skulls that strangely enough tend to have elongated canines more often than not. Azalea flutters around to examine some of the room's contents, a look of disgust and shock plastered on her face, and you set yourself to do the same. Ultimately, your attention is drawn to a single object in the room above all else, one which gives you an uneasy feeling just to look at. Although its appearance is rather unassuming, being a black bejeweled vase or gourd of some kind with a stopper on the top, the magical power emanating from it betrays the demonic nature of it - the feel of the energy from it reminds you of the demons you met at Teal's castle. Your fists clench as your face twists into a grimace, glancing over to the pile of human remains. There's no doubt in your mind - they had to have been test subjects for whatever this perversion of nature that Garlic crafted is. You carefully pick the jar up and examine it, tracing small and near-invisible sigils on it only visible to those versed with magic, to determine that it seems to contain at least two spells that you're personally familiar with: Life Alteration and Mist of Darkness. You don't know the exact manner in which they interact and combine with one another, but the idea of an exponentially-spreading mist that can change people permanently sounds especially terrifying...you are at least comforted by the fact that it's in your hands, now.Tucking it into Popo's basket for safekeeping, you grab Azalea's attention again, and move to head back out.>Four Anons, roll me 1d20. You slip out of the secret room and make sure to close it behind you as quietly as the mechanisms will allow. You're quick to start making your way towards the exit of the library, but pause in your tracks as your sensitive ears pick up footsteps despite no energy signature being felt from the direction they're coming from. You hear the familiar voice of Spice speaking up as he opens the door to the room, and you dash behind one of the standing shelves."Master Garlic? Are you back already?" He calls out, calmly walking directly to the shelf that hides the entrance of the hidden area. You take the opportunity to exit the way he came without so much as the slightest creak of the floor, your presence suppressed to the absolute limit that you can manage. It seems to work, as once you're already down the subsequent hallway you can hear him follow up with "Hm. I suppose not. I'd better not catch Nikki rooting through the Master's things out of boredom again..."The rest of your exit is thankfully clear of such close calls, as none of the others seem to have the desire to mask their energy levels enough to take you off guard like that. Once you're at the lowest level of the castle, and thus able to board the Nimbus with considerably less risk of being seen by anyone that might be on the outer walkways, you're quick to slip onto the loyal cloud that had been patiently waiting for you the whole time - an act you're quite thankful for, because otherwise you'd definitely have to draw attention by calling to it. From there, it's an incredibly simple matter of shooting through the cloud cover to make your way back to the Sacred Land of Korin. This time around, you telepathically reach out to Korin moments before your arrival. "We're on our way back up to Kami's, but it's for something very important that could be time-sensitive. Do you mind if we skip the climb just this once?" You ask him, and you can sense him mull it over for a few moments."Alright, but just this once. And you owe me some fish the next time you're in!" He bargains, earning a mental chuckle from you. With his permission granted, you drive the nimbus straight up the side of the tower, ascending the massive fixture in a matter of seconds. Once the Nimbus can go no further up, you launch yourself from it towards the power pole, and start to rapidly ascend the already-extended tool with an impressive display of speed and dexterity. It's not too long before you're at the top, and you climb up onto Kami's Lookout once more, only taking the slightest of moments to straighten your clothes to be more presentable before marching towards Kami's Throneroom.
Your senses, however, alert you to the fact that Garlic and Piccolo both seem to be in audience with Kami right now, with Barbar standing off to the side of the other two apprentices from what you can tell. Harum, you think, may be in one of the private quarters of the lookout - if not, then he's at least roughly around the area. Your eyes glance over to Popo standing at the front door, whose expression is rather neutral for once, and the attendant raises a hand to you in greeting."Lord Kami is currently teaching an important lesson his disciples. He asks for your patience if the matter is either not urgent or one that requires privacy, as always." Mr. Popo explains, to which you nod in response to despite inwardly cursing at the timing. You'd wanted to march this right to Kami given the dangerous nature of the item, but it might be a bit riskier with Garlic right there. Then again, Piccolo is also there, and you know for a fact that Piccolo is more than strong enough to handle Garlic should he try anything due to the reveal. Would it be wiser to wait for a private moment, or to let everyone openly know of Garlic's terrible creation and experiments? Your thoughts are in conflict with one another, but ultimately you choose to...>Wait until Kami is alone to present your evidence. He's the authority here, so how the situation is handled should be entirely up to him. He'll know the best way to handle Garlic's betrayal.>Reveal your evidence to everyone, right now. Everyone that could handle Garlic is in one place, and every second potentially counts if anyone finds out the mist is gone and can communicate that to him somehow.>Something else? (I don't know what, but you might surprise me with a write-in for an avenue I didn't consider.)

"Mr. Popo, Could you tell Kami to pause the lesson, and have his students to wait just a little? It is a matter that is both urgent and requires privacy, as it involves one of them." You ask, hoping that the expedience and relative privacy on the matter would work to your favour, even if it might put his apprentices on edge or make them wonder what could be important enough for such an interruption. Popo nods in response to you, keeping his hand held up for the moment while he mentally communes with the Guardian of Earth. After a tense half a minute of silence, he lowers his hand to instead gesture to the doorway, permitting your entry. You give him a grateful smile and bow your head quickly, only for your attention to be stolen when the doorway from the inner chambers opens up.Piccolo is the only one to step through it, and he comes to a stop a few feet from it to glare down at you with his arms crossed. You haven't had many interactions with the intense figure, admittedly, and the few interactions you have had with him have always been tainted by your decision to train under Garlic instead of him. You doubt that now will be any different, and are proven right when he speaks up."Whatever you're going to Kami about had better be good. He's been busy with important matters like training his successor, you know." He says with a critical tone, Popo glancing from the green man to you with a bit of a nervous expression. To your own credit, you stand straight and look him square in the eye as you reply."It is. I wouldn't waste Lord Kami's time on trivial matters, I know how important his duties are." You state, before glancing down briefly and extending your hand out to him. "Still, I'm sorry for interrupting your lesson. I'll make it up to you sometime, okay?" You follow up. He raises an eyebrow curiously, and taps the back of your hand with the back of his own, as though he was batting it away."I'm not a child that needs appeased, Honta. We're not friends, either, so don't try and act like it. Just don't waste Lord Kami's time - he doesn't have much of it left." He rejects your proposal, while revealing...something you actually didn't know."Doesn't have much left? What do you mean?" You probe, trying to keep your expression neutral to hide your mild shock."He didn't tell you? His lifeforce is reaching its end. He only has a decade at most left before he'll be gone forever, assuming he takes things lightly. Could be sooner if he doesn't. That's why every second matters - if nobody meets the requirements, Earth will be without a guardian once he passes on." He reveals, which explains a great deal of his animosity towards interruptions. You'd always assumed it was just part of his aggression, but if Kami's time truly is nearing its natural conclusion, then there's definitely a certain urgency to this. You file that information away in the back of your mind for now, though.
"I see...then I'll make this quick, yeah. Thanks for letting me no, Piccolo." You thank him, earning a scoff from the alien as he resumes his walk, heading over to the edge of the lookout to peer down at the planet below in order to occupy his time. You take the opportunity to slip through the door he opened and close it behind you, heading up to Kami's throne once more. The venerable Guardian stands up upon seeing you and raises his hand up to the air with each finger stretched out as far as it could go. A wave of magic pulses out from his hand, settling upon the walls and doors as a thin translucent barrier that clings to all surfaces save for you and Kami. You don't know exactly what the spell he just cast does, but you can assume it's meant to isolate the room in some way from the other areas of the lookout - a wise move, considering how eavesdropping could otherwise reveal quite the sensitive information. "Speak." Is all he says to you, as he gestures to you with his opposite hand."Garlic isn't fit to be the next Guardian of Earth. He...he made something terrible and hid it within his castle." You say, producing the jar containing what would later be known as the Black Water Mist and presenting it to Kami. The older man hesitates for the first time that you've seen, before reaching for it to take it from you and examine it. "To make things worse, I believe he experimented on people while he was making it. I don't know how he intends to use it, but the energy from it-" You continue, before Kami interrupts."Is pure evil. Indeed...this is a wicked creation. A most devious one, too - a clever combination of spells. For as long as the bottle was opened, it would spew out an endless amount of corruptive mist, and would turn anything that inhales it into...well, it could be called nothing other than a Demon." He explains, face showing great concern for what he holds in his hand. "Oh, Garlic...I had hoped I could quell the darkness in your heart before things went too far, but I fear I have been too lenient with you. I should have crushed your foolish ambitions instead of hoping to change your mind..." He speaks like a man wounded, heading back over to his throne to sit upon it."I'm sorry you had to find out like this, Lord Kami. That being said...it's only a matter of time before Garlic's people find out that it's gone missing. If that happens, I don't know what they'll do." You say, feeling out of place in the face of the old man's regrets. Kami's expression shifts to a rather sorrowful one for a brief moment, before it hardens into the familiar regal one you saw when you first met him.
"The creation of this artifact is treason against Earth. You are right, Wyald Honta - Garlic cannot be allowed to ever become the Guardian of Earth. He must be punished accordingly. Your job here is done - you shall have a reward for your due diligence after I've settled the matter with Garlic. For now, please stand near the doorway. I shall have Mr. Popo bring my foolish apprentice in..." He states, having collected himself entirely, as he tucks the cursed jar into his robes. You do as he asks, and in less than a minute Garlic is coming through one of the side doors to the audience chamber. He's bearing a cordial smile and clasps his hands together, bowing his upper body to his master diligently. "Mr. Popo told me that you wished to see me specifically about an important matter, Master Kami. I shall do everything in my power to be in your service." The Makyan speaks up, lying as easily as he breathes to try to stay, as he perceives himself to be, on Kami's good side. He doesn't even glance your way, his attention focused solely on Kami."You would dare to approach me, smiling, with such wicked intentions dwelling within your heart, Garlic?" Kami speaks up with a livid tone, grip cracking the throne he sits upon. Garlic's expression quickly shifts to one of confusion and apprehension, before Kami brings the jar out from his robes to show it to Garlic. That's when the Makyan's face adopts a bit of a panic to it."That's not what you think it is, Master! I...liberated it, from a-" Garlic starts to say, before Kami thrusts his hand out to strike Garlic with a continuous bolt of lightning, causing the teal man to cry out in pain as his muscles lock up."You would DARE to lie before God? Do you think me so dim-witted that I could not sense YOUR magic upon this?!" Kami roars at his pupil, though to your once-master's credit, Garlic flexes his muscles and his energy in a burst all around him to break the line of electricity keeping him paralyzed."Very well, have it your way, 'master'. Yes, it's true, I created the Black Water Mist! And I'll use it to turn every single man, woman, and child on this planet into a loyal slave, a demonic soldier that will follow my every command." Garlic reveals, baring his fangs menacingly at his former teacher. "After all, if you won't hand Earth over to my rule willingly, I'll have no choice but to take it by force!" He follows up, raising his hand and creating a sphere of energy within it that he flings towards Kami at blistering fast speed.
Despite his apparent age, Kami launches himself from the throne swiftly, narrowly avoiding the attack by flipping over it and coming to a stop while hovering midair. The Guardian of Earth creates his own orb of energy, blue in color, and flings it towards Garlic - and though Garlic crosses his arms to block it, as soon as it makes contact with the Makyan, it phases out of existence and it appears to you that a massive hole appeared underneath him, Garlic slouching forward as though something struck him from above and gritting his teeth. Kami launches more and more of those orbs, each of them dissipating on Garlic and deepening the hole in the floor, some unseen force slamming into Garlic from above each and every time, opening up fissuring wounds on the Makyan that bleed profusely from how hard they're striking him. It clicks for you what's happening - Kami must be using a spell that increases gravity in a certain range around what it strikes, given how not only Garlic reacts to it, but everything else caught in the field such as his falling blood and the ground itself. "I was merely going to Banish you from earth, wicked pupil of mine, but I will offer no forgiveness to those who try to attack me. You will surrender and kneel before me, or I will rend you apart." Kami threatens with a grave tone, continuing to pelt Garlic with his favored attack until Garlic is truly forced to a knee. Garlic and Kami both pant from the exchange, for different reasons, and Garlic raises a hand up to wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth before grinning."Is that all you've got? I'm just getting started!" He bellows out, his energy concentrating within his body and starting to expand. Things are going well for Kami so far, but this could end badly! Should you help? Kami told you to let him handle this, but you don't like just how rapidly Garlic's energy is growing!>Strike Garlic, he hasn't even noticed you yet! Not only is Garlic's energy growing at a rapid pace, but his body is beginning to swell up as well, darkening in color to a deep blue as every inch of muscle expands to be easily three times its previous size. His robes prove to be insufficient for containing his new physique, ripping open across the torso and falling into a tattered mess around his waist. You take a tentative step back, unable to help feeling intimidated at the waves of malevolent power radiating off of Garlic now, but you break out of the mental block in order to try to reach out to Mr. Popo for assistance. Your thoughts emanate from your ki to reach out and try to connect to the attendant, but the telepathy deflects off the shielded walls of the room rather than penetrating through them. The thoughts echo back towards you, causing you to squeeze your eyes shut and clutch your head from the sudden migraine that the feedback induces. You curse under your breath and sprint towards the door, wrenching it open to poke your head outside. "Mr. Popo! Kami needs your help, now!" You shout, earning a surprised look from the djinn before he rushes to enter the audience chamber. You can see Piccolo's ears twitch in the distance as he still watches over the world below from the edge of the lookout, and though he glances your way with an eyebrow raised in curiosity, he doesn't approach - presumably because he wasn't the one that was called for. As soon as Mr. Popo is inside, you whirl around to check on the situation. It seems as though Garlic has closed the gap between himself and Kami, slamming one of his gigantic fists into Kami's gut so fiercely that it flings the ancient guardian towards the wall, only for Garlic to flicker into Kami's path with blazing speed and slam his elbow straight back into Kami's spine. Kami has no time to recover from the devastating strike before Garlic spins around and delivers a brutal backhand that catches Kami's entire torso thanks to its size, sending him sailing straight into the ground with such force that Kami's body rips up stone and tile before he comes to a stop against one of the adjoining walls."S-Stop! Garlic, what are you doing?! This isn't what Lord Kami taught you!" Mr. Popo cries out, shaking in a combination of worry and fear. Garlic looks over his shoulder and away from his mentor for the first time since he entered the room, baring his fangs at the attendant.
"That's Lord Garlic to you, snivelling worm! As for this..." He says, turning to glance back at the bloodied Kami that's now struggling to get back up with a vicious grin. "I'm simply teaching Kami what happens to anyone that gets in my way. You would do well to stay on the sidelines unless you want to join him." He warns, before he glances back and finally seems to notice you, narrowing his eyes. Whatever he's about to say or do to you is interrupted however, as Mr. Popo manifests a golden staff into his hands with a puff of smoke. The portly attendant is still shaking in his boots, but he's at least courageous enough to stand up for his master.Garlic growls and fires twin beams of energy from his eyes that rip through Mr. Popo then and there, only for the image of Popo to fade away - the real Popo flickers into existence behind Garlic, twirling his staff in his hands so rapidly that it'd surely allow him to fly even without the innate ability to, and he swings the staff down as hard as he can towards the back of Garlic's head to try to transfer all of the momentum built up from spinning it. Garlic reaches up to grasp the staff before it can land, however, and with one simple squeeze he breaks the magically manifested weapon like it was nothing more than a twig. His other arm pulls back sharply, digging his elbow straight into Popo's gut and sending him flying to embed within the same wall that Kami is struggling to free himself from.Slowly and confidently, Garlic marches up to Mr. Popo while cracking his knuckles. Once in front of him, he reaches out to grasp the attendant by the neck, delivering punch after punch straight into his opponent's face while choking the life out of him. It's an act of brutality that makes your blood boil just to watch, knowing you completely lack the power to stop Garlic, and your former mentor only seems to be in glee with the violence he's inflicting. He pulls Mr. Popo from the wall, who can do nothing but mumble about in a daze and weakly try in vain to pry Garlic's hands off of himself, before Garlic squeezes...and you hear a snap. The Otherworlder's body suddenly stops struggling and goes slack, the friendly face that you've seen every day adopting a neutral expression as the life begins to fade from his eyes.
"Mr. Popo! How...dare you!" Kami shouts, finally recovered but just a moment too late. Kami's body suddenly liquefies and shoots towards Garlic, only solidifying as it wraps around all of Garlic's body below the head. You, however, are still entirely focused on Mr. Popo's body, limp on the floor and completely devoid of life. You clench your fists as thoughts race through your mind - he didn't deserve such a fate. He was only trying to help. He's been nothing but helpful to anyone and everyone on the lookout, from the very first day you got here! He was always happy to cook with you, or for you on the days when training was too much, and he always had the best advice to give whenever you needed it. Why did trying to stop a monster mean he had to die?!A blazing hot fury burns within your gut, the loss of someone you would earnestly consider a friend making your heart feel like it was caught in a vice. It's the kind of rage that wants to consume you, to make you go wild and tear apart the son of a bitch that so callously killed him. Your energy is starting to spike, instincts screaming at you to rip into Garlic and taste his blood. You hate how powerless you felt, being too weak to stop it before it happened. Your heart is pounding furiously in your chest, the fire within spreading out into your limbs. Your eyes flicker over to Garlic, pupils narrowing into slits as your body automatically filters out everything but him. Conscious thought recedes to the background as predatory thoughts sink into your mind, watching the bulging veins in his body as he struggles to rip Kami off of himself. Your muscles start to tense, your out of control energy stabilizing within your core and concentrating itself. When he finally succeeds and frees himself from Kami, holding the older man aloft by the throat just like he did Popo, your body moves before you even realize it. As fast as lightning itself, you burst across the room on all fours and launch yourself towards Garlic, jaws coming down on the wrist that holds the Guardian with immense force. Your fangs sink in deep, and you can feel the bones in the Makyan's wrist shattering from it. With a scream of pain and surprise, he slams his fist into your head to release your bite, flinging you away from himself. You land on all fours with the agility expected of a tiger, and start sprinting towards him once more, claws outstretched. He throws Kami towards a nearby wall with his monstrous strength once more, embedding the Guardian in place so that the betrayer can afford to focus entirely on you. Your approach is faster than he expected, and your first strike rips across the left side of his face and tears flesh and muscle alike, though he's quick to start parrying and deflecting your next few strikes, grimacing in pain. You subconsciously draw on your magic power, spawning into being three other copies of yourself that swiftly work together with you to overwhelm Garlic's defenses through feints. You break past his guard once more, drawing both claws down his chest and forcing him to blast his energy all around him to dissipate your clones and send you flying back again to give himself space. He gathers an orb of red energy into his uninjured hand and throws it forward, a beam of his energy pouring out from it to try to overwhelm you, and your hatred only grows. You roar out in anger, your energy manifesting as a concentrated gout of plasmic fire that meets Garlic's beam and starts to push it back, burning his own energy up in the process and intensifying from the added fuel. Soon enough, it overtakes him entirely, and you can't even hear his screams of pain thanks to the roar of the fire consuming his form and scorching everything behind him.
When you finally end your attack, panting from exertion, you're sorely disappointed to find Garlic to be quite injured from the attack, his flesh burned and warped almost all across his body, yet still alive. He's still standing, even, trying to catch the breath that was taken from him by the flames, glaring at you just as hatefully as you're glaring at him. He raises a hand up, shakily, before he speaks up. "You could have been one of my Elites, Honta...I knew you had great potential in you. But now you've left me with no choice! A cat that acts up gets put in TIME OUT! WITNESS THE DEAD ZONE!" He shouts, and you can feel him pouring his ki out into a single point in the center of the room. It's condensing more and more at a rapid pace, staying in that singular point in space, the air around it beginning to distort and shift into a shimmering red color - it radiates an incredibly ominous energy, and you feel like there's no coming back if you get caught in this next attack. To make matters worse, you can feel your pool of energy starting to flag, whatever reserves your emotional outburst pulled from from rapidly draining. You don't have much longer like this! You've turned the tides so much that Garlic is desperate now, and this next exchange may very well be the last one - the one that decides it all. You glance to Kami, who seems to have recovered once more, and is preparing a final spell. You only have a few moments before Garlic's ultimate technique finishes forming...>Rush him, and rip out his throat! As Garlic's energy coalesces at an exponential rate, you jump into action again. Grasping two air-steps with both hands, you shoot yourself forward with as much force as you can muster, blasting past the forming singularity. Garlic's eyes widen in surprise as you close the gap, and rather unfortunately for you he manages to react in time. His meaty hand connects with your face to stop your midair charge, your claws swiping a good half a foot away from their target ineffectually. With a roar of frustration and anger, he uses his grip on your head to swing your whole body down into the ground, slamming your skull deep into the rock below. As he brings up the opposite fist belonging to his more mangled arm to follow up with a no-doubt vicious punch, his entire body suddenly turns transparent, Garlic gasping in pain and instead clutching his heart. His constant flow of energy towards his trump card wavers, and you can feel the ki in his body rapidly dropping even faster than your own right now. Shaking off the daze from being slammed, you launch yourself out of where you were embedded, claws outstretched moments before you grab hold of his skull with both hands, your thumbs starting to dig into his eyes. His flesh wavers back into being as solid as it normally is, but you have him exactly where you want him despite his energy climbing back up to where it should be. You bring your jaws forward and clamp your teeth down around Garlic's thick neck, sinking your teeth deep within the veins and arteries hidden within...and then you rip your head back as hard as you possibly can, tearing the vulnerable flesh out in the process.Garlic seems to be in a state of shock immediately after you do so, not even having the wherewithal to try to remove you. He reaches up, hands shaking, to the hole left where the missing chunk of flesh used to be. He gurgles something, blood seeping from both the wound and his mouth, but it's nothing you can interpret. And within seconds, he slumps down to his knees, before falling over onto his face, his life fading. Oddly enough, his skin flashes transparent once more as he bleeds out, before his body seems to disappear entirely. You're left panting, your reserves finally tapping out entirely now that you're no longer fueled by anger and adrenaline, and the last thing you take note of is Kami manifesting and holding a strange crystal within his hands. Your consciousness slips away, overtaken by the darkness of pure exhaustion.
When you finally awake, it's several hours later, in the familiar bed you've stayed in for the past year and a half of your training. Azalea, Harum, and Barbar are all gathered around you in chairs as you expected, but rather unexpectedly is Master Korin, who is standing on your chest and looking down at you when you open your eyes!"Looks like sleeping beauty finally decided to wake up, everyone." Korin announces, grabbing the attention of your friends."Hontaaaa! You're back! That was so cool what you did back there, you were all BZAAAH! And you went GROOOOAR and shot a bunch of fire, and you saved Kami!" Azalea babbles up in your face, patting your...surprisingly unbruised cheeks and smooshing them in. You glance over to Barbar and Harum, who both shrug - they hadn't seen it, apparently. Hang on..."Wait a minute, you were there with me! That's right! Did you-" You start to ask, before Azalea shushes you with one of her tiny fingers on your lips."Save Mr. Popo? Of course I did! I think you were a little too occupied to notice, but I went over and shoved a whole bunch of fairy dust and magic into him as soon as everyone was focused elsewhere." She proclaims proudly, proving her value as a healer once again. The revelation brings you a massive amount of relief, and you release a sigh you didn't know you were keeping in."Mr. Popo is...alive. I- I was sure he was dead! I can't even begin to say how happy I am now!" You exclaim, tears gathering in your eyes. It's a lot to take in for such a short period of time, thinking one of your friends is dead and then finding out they're fine! Your thoughts are further interrupted when the door to your room opens up, the remaining figures who were not yet present stepping inside - Kami, followed by Mr. Popo, and Piccolo coming in last. Korin quickly flips off of you to land on the floor, which proves to be a wise move as you fling the sheets off of yourself and immediately hop out of bed to run over to Mr. Popo, picking him up in a bearhug."Oh my - it's a good thing I don't need to breathe, otherwise I fear you might accidentally suffocate me!" The attendant proclaims in a jovial manner, before he hugs you in return and pats you on the back. "I am fine, Mr. Honta, I assure you. A broken neck is nothing that some magic and senzu beans can't fix. Master Korin was kind enough to spare a few for everyone involved, yourself included." He explains, and you set him back down to wipe some of the tears out of the corner of your eyes. You catch Kami watching with another one of his mysterious smiles, though you're starting to figure out that it may be more fond than enigmatic."Hmph. You were foolish to call for Mr. Popo instead of me. Had I known that Kami was in such a situation, I would have stepped in and ended Garlic in a heartbeat." Piccolo pipes up, arms crossed and a surly expression on his face. Kami, however, seems to be in disagreement as he shakes his head.
"No, he was not. And the reaction you would have had is precisely why he was wise not to call upon you. To take a life so quickly, even one that threatens me, is not an act that should be taken lightly. Despite how you felt for one another, killing Garlic would have weighed heavily upon your heart, and would only feed the impurities that dwell within it. I know you, my pupil." Kami responds, reaching out to place an arm on Piccolo's shoulder. Piccolo doesn't seem to have much of a response to that, looking down almost shamefully."Well, that aside, how are you doing after that, Lord Kami? No offense, but you took a bit of a beating in there. Are you going to be alright?" You ask, earning another shaken head from Kami."No. My lifeforce suffered greatly in that fight, and unfortunately I fear I am not much longer for this realm. Were I to reduce my role and never use my powers, I would have another five years on this planet...but if I were to act as I have been, I would last no longer than one year." He reveals, still smiling. The information puts a dampener on everyone's mood, but he doesn't seem to let it stop him. "It is only due to my own negligence, and the fury I held when realizing the depths of Garlic's betrayal. Regardless, there is still one matter I must fulfil, the reward for your role to play in all of this. I shall do everything in my power to grant you whatever it is you wish for." He continues, his piercing gaze meeting your own as he now awaits your answer.>Well? What would you ask of Kami? He may not be able to grant everything, but there's certain things well within his power.
>>5627326>"I didn't do this for a reward, I just wanted to stop something terrible from happening...">"But since you are offering, is there a way for me to go to the otherworld to train with masters there? And could you give me some sort of recommendation and directions, so I could know who and where they are, and make so they would be more willing to teach me?">"And that burst of power I had, do you know what it was? I never felt it before."
>>5627326Getting access to the otherworld maybe?
>>5627333supportingadditionally ask what was done with the evil jar
>>5627333This sounds alright, maybe ask what that crystal was that Kami got in his hands while Garlic vanished.Really I don't think we should go to the otherworld now, Kami has 1-5 years and Garlics goons are going to cause a bunch of trouble. Plus if Piccolo jobs on purifying his heart he will forcefully seperate it from himself and create demon king piccolo who Honta can't kill without killing kami piccolo.Honta should stick around and at least help Kami's apprentices and deal with Garlics goons who will likely assault the lookout like as soon as they can.
>>5627359I mean that vote is just asking for permission to go, I don't think we're going to be leaving immediately.
>>5627359We have around 11,5 years until King Piccolo starts shit. Don't know how long before that the split though. And I voted for a way, so like him teaching or telling us how to, so when we do decide to do it, we can do it.
Next update isn't going to come until tomorrow, so you all have plenty of time to deliberate on things!I will say that at this point, don't rely too much on the official timeline for things. Certain events will happen at different points in time than they normally would, due to changes already caused. And on an entirely different note, check the character sheet for some neat information!
>>5627359Yeah, I'm also supporting the vote only on the assumption that we can leave when we want to and aren't going immediately.
>>5627326>"I didn't do this for a reward, I just wanted to stop something terrible from happening...">But can you teleport me to Love Teal? I... Stull wouldn't mind visiting her finally, eveb if we're only friends now.Downtime arc might be nice. Take a gap year before further adventures?
>>5627395Am I the only one that wants to try making Honta and Love get back together? Maybe it's just copium but it doesn't feel like it would be difficult, should put some feelers out at least.
>>5627403I'd rather Honta just move on.
>>5627333+1, but on the condition that we don't go immediatelyWe should grab those treasures and such in the time we have left before a possible Demon King Piccolo appears (assuming that we haven't somehow averted that, but I doubt that would be the case)>>5627363>we have around 11.5 yearsAnon, did you not just hear that Kami is going to die sooner? That will probably end up moving things up.
>>5627447I have been fucking up a lot today, so that may be it
>>5627403They aren't really made for each other. Honta is likely to keep on adventuring and Love needs to stay in one place for her duties.>>5627395>Downtime arc might be nice. Take a gap year before further adventures?I was hoping we'd go visit Barbar's clan first, do a bit of treasure hunting (mostly because I think we might need them for the King Piccolo arc). And going to Love's place so soon might not be the best, let's let things cool for a bit so it might not get awkward.
>>5627383Is this it?Shima Moyō no Tora (Permanent) - Having embraced his animalistic side in a moment of extreme distress, Honta has managed to tap into the barest depths of his potential. Though the full extent of his power remains locked away to him, his baseline capability is now far stronger than it was before. This reflects on his appearance, as he now permanently has black stripes in his otherwise fair hair. Unnamed form (Locked outside of special circumstances) - The well of power that Honta tapped into against Garlic, which enabled him to far exceed his normal capabilities. His thoughts and behavior are much more unrestrained and wild in this form, and he seems to focus entirely on killing his prey like this. It also seems to have some kind of association with fire, as evident by the fact that it can breathe a gout of flames that can even burn the energy of others to fuel itself.
>>5627453Also, is it possible to master makyan magic even without a teacher? Because we might have screwed ourselves by going 1,5 years, since Kami's time was halfed anyway
>>5627453:)>>5627447I will say that if you make the right moves within the 1-5 years given, it IS possible to extend this Kami’s lifespan. You’re already aware of several things that could be capable of helping with that. He may have accepted his limited remaining time, but that doesn’t mean Honta would accept it as well. Coming to terms with one’s limits and end is perhaps the hardest lesson of all. Ultimately up to what everyone’s priorities are towards.
And just to clarify, I'm not that I'm complaining about our choices or the results. Seems I'm already not thinking right today, and I'm tired now on tip of it.
>>5627468Oh, yeah, I guess there's no reason (that we know of) that Paradise Herbs or something similar wouldn't help. It'd be out of character not to at least try to get one for him.
>>5627403>>5627395Personally I'd want to visit our parents first if anything. they've got nothing but letters for our entire adolescence
>>5627497Like, i get we're on a timelimit with alot of things but we're way overdue for a visit to ma and pa. Hell dad might even be able to give us som exposition about our newly tapped into beastblood
>>5627497>>5627504That's cool with me, I want to visit them as well. Just wanted to see if I was the only one wanting to rekindle things with Love but Honta's parents deserve some love too.
>>5627509i dont think rekindling it with love is impossible, and she seems like a sweet match for our boy, but now might simply not be the right time for either of them.
>>5627512I prefer Azalea, but people picked Love. We might as well at least try to maintain the friendship, or make it work as a "knight of the realm" type moving forward if people want it to be the OTP. I just don't want to see that subplot go nowhere or Honta express no personal desires outside of adventure and combat.
As cool as Azalea is i kinda always saw her as our Bulma? Also they've been friends for so long i would be awkward if it ended up not working out somehow. Best man Barbar is obviously endgame tho (Joking, unless)
Looks like things are nice and settled, so I'll call it get to writing when I can!>>5627605>>5628022Obviously Honta is going to marry and create a soccer team with Yang. The tsundere always gets the catboy, don't you know?

"I didn't do this for a reward. I just wanted to stop something terrible from happening." You say, without a moment's hesitation. Your answer makes Kami's smile grow a little bit warmer, but he still waits for you to continue, clearly not going to take that as your only request - so at his behest, you continue. "But...since you're offering, can you find a way to send me to the Otherworld without dying? Fortuneteller Baba gave me a list of people there that might be able to help further my training, but as I understand it, it's normally impossible for the living to go there." You ask, hopeful that he'd be able to grant the request."Hmm...I knew that you would ask that of me. In truth, had you asked me prior to these events, I would have rejected your proposal outright. The living have no right to disturb the resting place of the dead, save for the venerated beings born there such as the Kais. It is not in my authority to supersede such rules...however, in light of everything you've done for Earth, I will submit the formal request for you. It may take some time for it to be approved, but I have no doubts that it will be granted. The celestial bureaucracy knows that I do not vouch for any but the most worthy, so my vouching will bring weight to it." He explains, before sighing. "The paperwork is going to be a greater foe than Garlic, I fear..." He laments, earning a chuckle from most of those present. The levity is nice, after the rather intense stress you went through not too long ago."Thanks, Kami! That aside though, I did have just a few questions I wanted to ask you about. Would that be fine?" You ask, not wanting to overstep your bounds. Kami, however, simply nods at you."Ask away. Passing my knowledge onto others brings me a great deal of joy these days, so I don't mind it at all." He admits, walking over to one of the chairs of the room to pull it out and take a seat. Seems like he doesn't mind answering in front of everyone else, which suits you just fine."Right after I took down Garlic, his body disappeared, and there was some kind of a crystal in your hand. What was that?" You ask, plopping down on the edge of the bed. Kami's eyes shine in recognition, and he pulls out a dark crystal in the shape of a star, pitch-black on the inside but quite shiny and reflective otherwise.
"This is a mystical prison, capable of containing anything that doesn't vastly outclass my Magical Power. When Garlic was attempting to open up that portal to another dimension, I had cast a spell upon him to ensnare his soul and rend it from him. After you dealt the final blow, his lifeforce was insufficient to resist my magic, so I severed his soul from the rest of him entirely, and contained it within this. I don't know exactly what I shall do with it yet...but I shall have quite a few recommendations to give the celestial bureaucracy for his punishment in Hell, once I'm done with my own brand of punishment." He reveals, making you feel just a slight amount of fear towards the man. He truly is harsh to those who betray his trust and break the rules, it seems...but at least it's entirely justified when it comes to someone like Garlic."I...I see, I don't think I quite expected that. But that at least explains why Garlic was going all transparent during the fight." You admit, before snapping your fingers as you think of another question. "What are you going to do with that Jar he made?" You follow up."The lookout has a few secret chambers within it, where I store the most dangerous artifacts of the world. It'll be kept there for now, unless my superiors decide that its existence is too dangerous to even leave contained. It may not be the wisest course of action, but it is the protocol we must follow. And...well, you never know when an otherwise evil item may come in handy for an act of Goodness. I cannot fathom a scenario in which that Jar could be used in the name of good, but that doesn't meant he possibility does not exist." He admits, brow furrowed. It's clear he would genuinely prefer to destroy it if given the chance, but you suppose the laws exist for a reason."Well, I guess that's good enough. Who knows, maybe the rule is in place because someone messed up destroying an artifact before and made things way worse." You take a guess, earning a thoughtful look from Kami. He purses his lips as though he hadn't actually considered that possibility before."That's a very good point, actually." He replies after his deliberation, before shrugging. "Such is why I always follow the laws laid before me. I am not always privy to the logic of my superiors, though I trust in their guidance." He says, before Barbar finally chimes in for the first time since you woke back up."When did your hair change?" He asks, earning a confused look from you. You grab a handful of your exceptionally fluffy hair and bring it down into your own view, and...it's got a black stripe in it?!"Woah, what?! I've got stripes in my hair now? What!" You exclaim, immediately wondering if someone pranked you while you were sleeping. If they did, it'd be in very poor taste!
"A mark of your heritage coming to bear." Kami pipes up, quieting your train of thought before it can jump to wondering who dyed your hair. You glance to him with a tilted head, and he follows up. "When you saw Mr. Popo get attacked, and truly believed him to have died, you were able to tap into the well of potential deep within you. Much of your potential has been locked away by your own body, a natural safety measure to ensure you wouldn't destroy your body while you were still in your developmental phases. Though rare to even see them, it is often the case for those who have potent hybrid blood running in their veins. Among even them, most go their entire lives without ever knowing what they were truly capable of - to undo the locks on one's true power usually requires an intense ordeal, and to survive the aftermath requires a sound body. It seems that some of your potential now constantly leaks through you as a result of burning through one of your power's locks. Hence...the stripes in your hair now. A visual sign of you coming closer to your true nature."You take in the explanation with a bit of wonder, pulling up one of your arms to clench your fist a few times and flex your bicep. Now that you know what to look for and aren't distracted, you actually DO feel a great deal stronger - like you've hit an entirely new peak that makes the old Honta seem weak in comparison. Looking even deeper within yourself, you can even kind of sense the locks he was talking about - like there's a burning font of power within you blocked off not by some invisible force, but a mental block of some kind that makes you hesitate to reach out and touch it. It's a primal instinct, almost like how an animal fears fire."So, he's some kind of Super Honta now?" Azalea pipes up, snapping you out of your thoughts. You glance over to her and give a smirk, pointing your thumb at your chest."I've always been Super Honta! This is just Striped Super Honta. How does it look, by the way?" You ask, looking around for a mirror. Mr. Popo brings one out of nowhere for you, so you can see how it looks."Striking!" "Bold." "Great!" "Fine." "Swell!" "Not as good as my fluffy white mane, but it'll do." are the various answers you get from everyone present save Piccolo, who seems to be reaching up to touch his entirely bald head when nobody is looking. He quickly stops and glares at you when he notices that you were in fact looking, but you decide to ignore it for his sake.
"Not bad as far as reviews go, I'll take it." You reply, and things finally seem to settle down from there. You spend the rest of the day talking with everyone as much as they can tolerate, though Piccolo remains reserved and refuses to break out of his shell for you. Kami and Popo are the first ones to disappear, citing a need to fill out enough paperwork that Earth in its entirety wouldn't have enough trees to print it all out. Korin taps out next, heading back down to his tower to take a 'cat-nap'. Piccolo takes Harum off not long after, telling him that their training was interrupted for long enough. Barbar and Azalea are the last ones left, with the older warrior mostly listening to the two of you banter...except, Barbar seems to have nodded off in his seat at some point. How long was he like that? With the two of you now essentially alone, Azalea flutters up to your ear, whispering something to you just in case Barbar's sleep is light. "Hey, Honta...want to have some fun in the bathhouse? It's still in mint condition! And I bet you could you some 'stress relief', huh?" She proposes, immediately making your face light up as red as a tomato. You turn to look at her, going to stumble out an indignant answer, before she places one of her tiny fingers over your mouth. "I'm not joking. It's a serious offer, Honta. It doesn't have to mean anything if you don't want it to, you know - I'm still going to be your friend at the end of the day." She says, her resolute expression proving the earnesty of her words. She's not just messing with you, for once...>You accepted the offer that night, and became more than friends with her afterwards.>You fooled around a bit, but remained just friends. Well, maybe friends with benefits...>You didn't accept the offer, but you did admit to wanting to try dating her.>You didn't accept the offer, and remained just friends. Not everyone waits for you to ask them, of course! >>5628933You horny fucks. And in the vicinity of a dying kami?
>>5628994Everyone's dying, slowly but surely. Except Mr. Popo, I'm pretty sure he's biologically immortal. At any rate, I'm sure Kami doesn't care too much. He's the Guardian of Earth, he can and does observe the entirety of earth to keep a watchful eye on things. He's all but guaranteed to have seen thousands of people having ill-advised outdoor fun.
Contrary to your usual reaction, you don't have a thousand and one thoughts flying through your head right now. No, in fact, you have precisely zero thoughts, your mind completely empty for a few seconds just to process it. When your mental processes finally reboot, you're finally capable of actually considering it. Azalea was...Azalea. She's cute, she always knows how to cheer you up, she's your oldest friend, and it's hardly like you've never thought of her in that way. You always tempered your mind away from such things, partly from embarrassment of course, but she's taking a chance on this. You hardly want to change the nature of your friendship, for fear of things taking a turn for the worse, but maybe you should take a chance on it too. Besides, it's not like you're otherwise occupied in a relationship right now, considering the amicable-but-still-painful breakup you had earlier in the year..."Alright. But on one condition! If we're going to do...that...then I think we should be dating. It'd be inappropriate otherwise, because that's a thing reserved for couples." You say, nodding mostly for your own sake. You're mostly parroting the panicked explanation your parents gave you all those years ago when you brought it up with them as a curious kid, but it makes sense to you - it's a pretty intimate act to share with anyone else."Hmmm..." Azalea hums, tapping her chin with a finger while she considers your counterproposal. It doesn't take her very long to decide though, as almost immediately she chimes back up with a "Okay! That's fine, as long as it's Honta." in her usual cheery tone. She flutters in closer to give you a peck on the lips quicker than your stalling brain can react to, before flying off towards the doorway. "Come on, then!" She says, gesturing for you to follow afterwards, which you do with only a moment of delay. That night, you ended up learning a lot of new things. Including some of Azalea's magical tricks, which apparently work quite well for facilitating the differences between the two of you. The potential uses of a rubberization spell in combat or in a scenario where you might need to save people seem pretty handy, though you have to admit that growing or shrinking people with just a few words and a slight bit of magic power is also a pretty handy thing. Your bountiful reserves of energy are completely drained by the time the fun ends, of course, but come the next morning you feel better than ever - you're practically vibrating with excess energy, the invisible weight that both stress and hormones placed on you being lifted. Azalea teases you about it, of course, which once more makes you break into a full-faced flush remembering the events of the night.
Once you're able to push past that over breakfast, Popo calls you into Kami's throne room on his behalf, which seems to be right as rain now despite all the damage done to it previously. As if sensing the unspoken question on your mind, he speaks up immediately. "A simple enough act of magic, to repair what amounts to simple stone." Kami explains, before pulling out a small hand-sized mirror from his robes. Upon a gesture from him, you step forward, taking it from him when he hands it towards you."A mirror...? What's it for?" You ask, turning it over as you examine both sides. It's deceptively simple, with a plain chestnut-wood back with the symbol for Heaven stamped on the back in red, a riveted brass trim around the edges, and a silver reflective faceplate. "A tool that I imbued with a small portion of my power when I was younger. It was my belief that it would be not only an appropriate gift to show my gratitude, but something that will come in use when your request to enter the Otherworld gets approved. It can assist the use of the Far-Seeing Arts that Korin taught you, allowing you to use it as though you were up here on the Lookout...but that is merely a side-effect as a result of being connected to me. The main purpose is to transport one to Earth's Otherworld Check-In Station. Once you get approved, the symbol on the back should begin to glow, and its primary ability will be unlocked. From there, it's a simple matter of swiping the mirror over yourself, and it should take you there." He elucidates, before leaning back in his throne once more."Woah...just like that? What would happen if I tried to do that right-" You start to say, going to tap the front of the mirror right now to see if your hand will go in. It just taps uselessly against it. "-Now? Oh." You say, with a small amount of embarrassment. Kami chuckles at the result nonetheless.
"It's inert pending their approval, I'm afraid. If I were to use it, it would work just fine, but ultimately it goes by the rights of whoever is holding it." He says, moving an arm up to rest his chin on his fist in his favored pose. "But enough on that. I will admit, you are an interesting man to me, Wyald Honta. You save others despite the danger it may present to you. You treat everyone you meet with respect unless they fail to show you the same. You're always looking to push yourself, seeking ever-greater challenges. I would caution you against it, but we both know that it wouldn't stop you...just keep your wits about you, as Fate has a way of increasing the stakes for those like you." He confides in you, with a smirk. "Tell me, what challenges await you next? Do you actually have a plan, or are you taking things one step at a time, relishing the moment?" He asks, seeming to want to get to know you a bit better. It poses a good question: Where do you plan to go next? >>5629858"I would have another five years on this planet...but if I were to act as I have been, I would last no longer than one year."Barring another Garlic incident he'll be fine.
It would be pretty fun to bring Azalea (and Barbar and Hatum) home to meet mom and dad.
>>5630012I was thinking we could offer to give them some of the Paradise Herbs too (after we get some for our friends and Harum's mom), though I wouldn't be against meeting them again immediately.
>>5629973The way I'm interpreting that is that if he acts as guardian of Earth at all, he will die in one year, not just if he ends up in a major battle. But I could be understanding it wrong. And it's possible that there could be another incident. Garlic's minions are still out there. Better safe than sorry.
>>5630069Re-reading it now and yeah that's probably what he meant.
>>5630069>>5630231Essentially, if he actively uses his powers as much as he normally does in his duties as the Guardian of Earth, he'll only be around for one year. But if he dials it back, takes it easy, and mostly relies upon the Lookout's power instead of his own (at the cost of his watchfulness, naturally) then he'll be able to eke out 5 years. The quality of the training he'd be able to provide also depends on how much he exerts himself to show his pupils how to do certain things. But ANYWAYS.>>5629489>>5629506>>5629514>>5629530>>5629542>>5629585>>5629609>>5629856>>5629759Forest of Terror wins! Writing.
You shift in place a bit awkwardly, not used to Kami paying you such direct attention, let alone the praise from him. You do answer him fairly quickly though, having been thinking on your next course of action over breakfast already. "My plan is to head to the Forest of Terror next. Fortuneteller Baba was kind enough to tell me about a plant there capable of...well, capable of extending my natural lifespan. I noticed it ever since I was a kid, but compared to other people, I..." You start to admit, ready to reveal one of your greatest insecurities to Kami, before he cuts you off and raises a hand."You age at a different rate than your peers. Slower than the Beastmen, but faster than the Humans. I see...that must weigh heavily upon you." He says, to which you give a hesitant nod."It does. I don't really want to outlive those I care about, but I don't want to die before them either. I figure that if I gather enough of those herbs, we could solve that problem pretty easily. In fact, I was wondering if-" You continue, before he once more cuts you off. It's a little bit of an irritating habit of his, but you bite your tongue."If I would want any, should you offer them? Oh, Honta..." He says, voice tinged with just a touch of sorrow. "You have yet to learn the most important lesson about life. Eventually, it must end...we can delay the inevitable, but the Otherworld awaits us all. It's part of the natural cycle to live, die, and be reborn anew eventually. The philosophers of old once said that death is what gives the lives we live meaning, and I am in agreement with them." He says, in a consoling voice. Is he...denying your offer?"S-So you wouldn't want to extend your lifespan? But that fight with Garlic halved what little you had left! If not more!" You protest, to which he nods in confirmation.
"It did. However, the most I would want is a single leaf, just enough to restore me to how I was prior to the battle...let me tell you something I have not even told Piccolo, young Honta. I, too, once sought out the secrets to immortality. I heard of the legends of the Fountain of Youth, and wanted to drink from it in order to stay in my prime forever. That very journey is what brought me to this Lookout one day, where I met my own Master - the previous Kami. I abused his trust and used the enchantment of the Lookout to find the mythical fountain, and I drank deeply from the well after braving the trials guarding it. He was furious when he found out, and sealed the fountain away such that nobody would ever find it again. This took place over a thousand years ago - I've already lived a fuller life than I should have, and though it has done wonders in allowing me to serve the people of Earth, the weight of time has left countless scars upon my soul. To be a guardian means that you must bear witness to the tragedies that happen every day in the world, and though it is a sacred and honorable duty, I would seek respit from it eventually. I train my pupils so that I may one day join my peers in the Divine Sage Realm." he tells you, laying out his reasoning clear as day for your sake. You can tell it brings back old and painful memories for him."I...didn't realize." You say, clenching your fists at your side. It's difficult for you to hear, it's not something you want to process, but you can't deny that it makes sense. Kami's job is to look over the entirety of Earth, so he would naturally bear witness to a staggering number of deaths, betrayals, terminal illnesses...it has to have been hard on him over the years. "I think I understand your viewpoint, even if I can't agree with it. I think there's a lot more to life that you still haven't experienced, a lot of friends you haven't met yet. Maybe I'll convince you one day, before you go." You say, covering up your feelings with an easygoing grin. He gives you a long look, before shaking his head and chuckling. "Perhaps you will. It'd been a while since I last met someone with an eternally optimistic outlook. I do hope that you consider my offer to train you before I depart from this world...I think that you could make a fantastic Guardian, as long as you manage to rid yourself of those impurities. If not, I'll have to choose between Barbar and Piccolo...and if that happens, the next Kami would have truly terrible social skills." He jokes, earning a laugh from you as well."They mean well, I can tell! Barbar just thinks that unnecessary talk is cheap and meaningless, so he keeps things simple. And I'm sure that Piccolo is similar! Or...well, maybe he just never learned how to socialize, now that I think about it." You explain, before pondering Piccolo's situation in more detail.
"I suspect you may be on to something. He has managed to open up to his student somewhat, though it will likely take more time for him to cast off the shell he built around himself to protect himself from the rigors of being alone for so long. In his heart, he's still that young boy, stranded on a frozen island with not a soul around, waiting for the family that will never come." He remarks sadly, before shaking his head to get his mind off the topic. "But enough on such depressing subjects. I've discussed everything I wanted to when I called you in, so I believe it's time for you to be on your way."You bow your upper body to him respectfully. "Thank you for everything, again, Lord Kami. I'll bring you back a leaf, alright? Just so I have some more time to convince you to see things the way I do." You say, giving him a cheeky grin once you're standing straight again. He adopts a grin of his own, leaning all the way forward with his fist propping his chin up."If I saw things the way you did, I'd have to clean the bath house more often. I would normally recommend using protection, but Hybrids usually have fertility issues, so I-" He starts to say, causing your entire head to immediately go red as you adopt a nuclear blush."THANKSKAMISAMAIGOTTAGONOWBYE!" You interrupt him, turning tail and rushing out of the lookout's audience chamber. You're never going to live down the fact that the Guardian of Earth, of all people, knows what happened last night. Azalea must never find out. N-Not that you want ANYONE to find out, of course, but her especially.Once you calm down again, your thoughts drift to your friends. Barbar is still training with Kami. Harum is still training with Piccolo. Azalea seems to have finished learning everything she could from Mr. Popo, as you recall from some conversations with her, so she's definitely going to be coming with you...but you're not sure if the others would want to take a break from their training to do so. You're certain that they'd come with you if you asked, but is that the best for them right now? On the one hand, it might prove refreshing for them to take a small vacation from it before coming back...but on the other, they might lose some valuable progress if they're gone for too long. And, you must admit, you still want people to keep an eye on Piccolo especially, since he was also supposed to be responsible for the cataclysmic event...although, perhaps you've already averted it? You're starting to hate prophecy, since the details you know of are so hazy.>Take both Harum and Barbar with you, the gang stays together! It'll be a fun distraction in the Forest of Terror!>Leave Harum and Barbar at the Lookout, you need your friends here to keep an eye on things.>Bring Harum only, you'd hate to interrupt Barbar's progress with tempering his heart.>Bring Barbar only, you don't want Piccolo to close up again just because he's gone for a bit.
>>5630786>Leave Harum and Barbar at the Lookout, you need your friends here to keep an eye on things. They have important jobs here. let's go on a little forest jaunt with our new girlfriend.Plus, then we get fool around at camp without embarrassing interruptions.

Ended up mighty busy today, so I didn't have as much time to write as I thought I would! Update will come tomorrow. A question for folks while we wait on my slow ass:What do you view Honta's greatest fears as? Hard mode: You can't say being sprayed with water.

A few hours later, you're feeling the cool ocean breeze rush through your hair as you shoot across the world. It's just you and Azalea, with your two other best friends still training with their respective masters on the Lookout. The journey was nice, but admittedly the Nimbus was a little less tolerant of you than before - your mind kept wandering to certain things done not too long ago, and that issue was only compounded by your oldest-friend-turned-girlfriend teasing you about it. You're starting to suspect that she thinks it's funny when you fall through the prudish cloud, but thankfully enough for you the one time you got dunked in the sea did wonders for keeping your mind off of it for the rest of the trip. Cross referencing the journal that Baba gave you with local landmarks, you think you spot your destination - it looks like a completely ordinary, if uninhabited, island. There's a plethora of exotic trees coating the majority of the isle, obscuring the true nature of your destination. According to Baba, you had to enter the forest from a specific location: a statue with an open mouth that you had to walk through. Once you do so, you'll technically be in a place that exists between Earth and the Otherworld, with all the special properties one can come to expect from a place like that. She doesn't elaborate on what those properties actually ARE, but you can forgive that, because she at least made some surprisingly good drawings of the Paradise Herbs you're looking for.You circle the forests a few times before you finally spot a hint of stone, so you bring the nimbus around to that side of the island and hop off of it. You take the time to stretch just a bit before you head inside the untamed jungle, only having to walk for a few minutes before you come upon the massive stonework representing a creature you've never seen. Without hesitation, you step through its mouth and pass the threshold you're meant to, Azalea fluttering right beside you and glancing around curiously."Ohhh, this feels kind of familiar! We fairies have a few places like this, little cracks you can slip through if you know the right path. Most of the time, we use it for the sake of travel or hiding from people, but I suppose using it as a special garden makes sense too! I wonder if any Fairies made this?" She wonders aloud, causing you to turn and stare at her."Travel? What, you can get to places faster through those cracks?" You ask, getting an enthusiastic nod in return from her."Yep! It's super convenient. Wait a minute...you don't know about them? I thought you were walking past them on purpose!" She suddenly realizes, making you smack your face."I can't believe we could have been travelling quicker this whole time. Not that it matters anymore thanks to the nimbus, but...that was a LOT of walking, back in the day." You lament, earning a snicker from Azalea.
"At least all that walking made your legs strong! And my wings are in top shape. And speaking of being in top shape, you should see how much muscle mass I gained from that sourpuss Korin making me climb his tower!" She exclaims, flexing her twiglike biceps. You...don't really see any change, if you're being honest, but you'll take her word for it. "It was so unfair. It's like twenty times taller for me than it is for everyone else!"You suppress a laugh into nothing more than a fond smirk, shaking your head as you continue into the forest with her. Actually, now that you've shifted your attention to the woods around you, don't things seem...a little different? The trees are starting to look more barren and threatening, despite the fact that when looking at this exact area from above earlier it was verdant and bushy."...You know, I'm getting a bad feeling from this place now. It's way creepier now, right?" You ask, getting your fairy friend's attention on the matter and derailing her previous train of thought. She blinks, looking around in a bit of confusion."Yeah, actually...I didn't even notice it before." She replies, swivelling in place to look behind you, a gaze which you follow. "Woah...even the way we came from looks like that now! And the Sun is going down pretty quickly, see?" She continues, pointing towards the faintest glimpse of the sun dipping past the treeline from the direction you came. That's definitely not right - you got here by about one or two in the afternoon, so you should have plenty of sunlight left!
"I'm starting to understand why they call it the forest of terror..." You say, taking a step back reflexively. As you do so, your heel taps something unexpectedly, a shadow being cast down around you. Looking up, you see an old face that you barely remember, grinning down at you and licking its lips. It's the Troll that attacked you and Azalea so long ago! With a start, you wheel around and jump back to make some distance in one quick motion, only to bear witness to more figures emerging from a hazy purple mist. The psychopathic Spreen'Kals with his childlike stare. Ei Scream, his gaze transfixed on you with a malevolent grin. Gerrato, hand resting on his blade as he stares at the remnants of his true blade that now rest within your Mirror Claws. Tento Mushi, surprisingly, with the entity that possessed her manifesting behind her and clinging to her back. Two Pirates, side-by-side, watching you cautiously. Garlic, glaring at you with an intense and deep hatred that puts anything you've felt before to shame. And, to your horror, the vast majority of the mist is still coalescing behind them - trying to take on a form far larger than any of them. It has yet to solidify due to just how much of the purple gas's mass seems to be required, but you're starting to make out the bone-white color of a colossal skull...your face pales when you realize what it's trying to form. The creature that killed you so many times in the Room of Time.>Disperse those clouds, right now! You absolutely can't let that thing manifest fully!>Run, while you still have the chance! Garlic alone would be hard enough to take down again, but that thing would be an impossibility!>Cast Mist of Darkness followed by Mirror Image right away, it's your best chance at evening the odds against so many enemies, even though it'll take up a good chunk of your Magic Power.>Something...else? Although your conflicting fight or flight instincts are trying to make your body lock up in fear at the emerging sight of a force of nature the likes of which you have never even come close to being capable of stopping, your training allows you to flick a mental switch to force yourself into action: You're a Warrior, and so you must Fight. Your eyes flicker over the forms of the other opponents for just a few moments, and while they only seem interested in harming you, you're certain that they would interfere in you dissipating the forming entity by merit of their aggression and malice. "Azalea, we have to stop that last one from forming!" You call out, sparing a glance to the side at your plucky fairy companion, who gives you a nod."G-Got it!" She says, with a bit of shakiness to her voice. You understand her apprehension, given everything you're both up against now, but it's time for action. You release the tension in your body with a burst of speed, rocketing yourself forward and towards the weakest links in the lineup - the Pirate Duo, each of them reliant on an ordinarily effective gimmick but not much stronger than normal humans otherwise. You tuck your body in close as you would with the River stance, and exactly as you predicted they swing out with their blades as soon as you're in range. You weave yourself around the deadly instruments and deliver twin gut-punches to both of them, but rather than knocking the air out of them like you expected they only shift back slightly, seeming entirely unperturbed by it.Your eyes widen in surprise, and you transfer your remaining momentum into a slide between them just in time to avoid the hilts of their swords, which they intended to smash into your skull. You pull their legs out from under them in the process with just a little shift in your positioning, and lean forward during the slide to turn the lunge into a leap forward, still holding the duo. Once your strength has gotten you directly into the center of the forming beast, you twist your body around as sharply as you can, holding the two Pirates out as far as possible. You create air step after air step in order to keep turning midair, and soon enough you become the center of a vortex of wind with the aid of the unwitting captives in your grasp, which starts to push the mist back and stop it from gathering together like it wants to.
Unfortunately for you, right when the winds are really starting to pick up, you feel a sudden chill overtake the lower half of your body. While you were spinning, Ei had managed to cast a spell directly on your legs, suspending your motion just long enough to cause the vortex to start to fade. Spreen'Kals springs up right into you, slamming his head into your gut with an amount of force that you're certain exceeds what he was previously capable of, causing you to let out a pained "GUH!" as the wind is knocked out of you. Involuntarily, you drop the two pirates to the ground, before you yourself land. Still, you've trained for more than this - with a flex of your hard-earned muscles, you shatter the ice around your legs, and grab hold of Spreen's head to twist it sharply in order to snap his neck. He goes limp in your hands, moments before he dissipates into more of that purple smoke. With some panic over being interrupted, you glance back to the vortex you created to see if it managed to stall the formation long enough, only to hear "Sim Sala Bim!" from Azalea. In an instant, the dying vortex you created intensifies threefold, scattering the vile gasses every which way in the process - and sustaining the process, it seems, as even after a few seconds it shows no sign of slowing down. If anything, it's ramping up. "You did it! Great work, Azalea!" You shout, looking over to her with a thumbs-up. Although she returns it, she quickly has to dodge out of the way of the Troll, who seems to be focusing on her now as it tries to smash her with its oversized club. You don't have much time to focus either, as the remaining combatants are starting to close in on you- wait a minute, do they look even bigger? H-Hold on, is that Spreen'Kals among their number? "Oh no! They're starting to replicate! We have to kill them off faster!" Azalea proclaims in a panic, flying around the Troll's furious swipes and peppering him with admittedly ineffectual but quick-firing elemental spells. You can't afford to focus on it though, due to Gerrato's rapier suddenly closing the distance in on you and forcing you to twist your body to the side to avoid it. You slip your hands into the metal claws at your waist as quickly as you can manage, while swinging out a kick that connects with the side of Gerrato's head and sends him flying off to become well-acquainted with a nearby tree.A second Gerrato manifests himself not too far away soon after, causing you to narrow your eyes. Is it truly a matter of killing them quickly enough? You can't finish your train of thought, as you're forced to leap away as Garlic comes in and smashes his massive fists into the ground where you just were, delivering enough force to make miniature craters where he struck. He grunts in frustration, eyes following you as beams of energy shoot out of them. You know that you're neither fast enough to dodge such an attack midair, nor powerful enough to block a direct attack of that manner from him in his empowered state, so you do the next best thing and pull on the well of Magical Power within you to cast your first spell. The eye-beams rip through your form and scatter it briefly like the mist it turned into, and as soon as the twin beams end your body snaps back together into one solid mass. You unleash a powerful bolt of Flash Lightning towards Garlic in order to paralyze him long enough for you to deal with the others, as you've noticed Tento Mushi and her possessor dashing towards you to follow up on them. It courses through his body and seems to do the job, although you can't help but notice that his body starts seeming to absorb the energy you sent coursing through him. No...it couldn't be, could it? Tento starts to launch a flurry of precise jabs and kicks towards you, which you parry aside while observing the situation carefully. To test your theory, you suddenly grab one of Tento's arms and put it into a lock while pulling her closer, just so you can thrust your Mirror Claws into the entity clinging to her back and pump the slightest amount of ki into it. Exactly as you suspected it would, the entity seems to grow just a bit larger from it, even as it seemingly takes damage from your weapon.
"That's not it, Azalea! They're getting stronger and replicating from our energy! We have to reign it in if we want to win this fight!" You shout, the solution clear as day to you now. Immediately, you start to pull all of your energy back into your body and keep as much of it contained within as you possibly can - a task made, truthfully, easier for you due to your innate talent with Internalization...although you suspect that it would be a far more difficult task if you had reserves of Ki as vast as Piccolo's, or more. A soft white glow envelops your body as you do so, and you slam your forehead directly into the nose of the illusory Tento, causing her and the entity both to explode into white motes of light that swiftly fade. You adopt a confident and powerful stance as you turn to face the rest of the fakes, and turn one of your hands up to gesture towards them in a manner that silently says 'Come get some'.They look a lot more tentative to approach you now, but ultimately their desire to harm wins out in the end. They each rush you in unison, even the Troll taking the time to stop focusing so heavily on Azalea to charge towards you. You're faced with an onslaught of attacks almost immediately, forcing you to parry each blow and drive them to the side instead of taking the offense. However, each time your body comes into contact with them, they seem to lose a great degree of the power and speed they previously had, becoming easier and easier to turn aside until you suddenly find an opening. You rip your claws straight through Garlic's neck, while at the same time extending your foot out to slam it right into Gerrato's chest, causing both to explode into a shower of light. With the pressure immensely lessened, you transfer into an elbow slam delivered straight into the side of Ei's head, and then flip over him into an axe-kick that outright slices Spreen'Kals in twain. From there, it's a surprisingly simple matter of cleaning up the rest of the clones, unempowered as they are...And by the time you're done, no more of that purple mist seems to be left, whatever had been gathering to attempt to form that monstrous giant apparently having been consumed by your timely efforts in both stalling it and in figuring out how to destroy the clones for good. You keep your energy reigned in for now, but give out a heavy sigh of relief, wiping the sweat off of your brow. "That was a lot more intense than I was expecting...I can't believe it almost manifested that thing. It would have been a true disaster on Earth if it did, I'm sure of it." You comment, unable to help the deep-seated fear of it formed in your heart from dying so many times to it. It truly was an unstoppable force of nature, as far as you're concerned.
"I'll say! Although, I don't know if it'd actually be all that strong, if it was getting its energy from us. And it'd be an illusion of an illusion, right? How strong could a fake of a fake possibly be?" She responds, earning a grimace from you."M-Maybe, but that's definitely not something I'm keen on finding out any time soon. Best not to take chances, right?" You reply."True! Chances are for people who can afford 'em, and sometimes you're just broke!" She jokes, fluttering over to sit on your fluffy head of hair. She grabs two handfuls of it, and tries to manoeuvrer them like joysticks. "Anyways, let's get going, Honta! We've got some plants to harvest! The sooner you take them, the longer you'll stay in your prime...I think!" She says. Unbeknownst to Honta, who has now begin to walk along at her behest, she glances to the fourth wall, and whispers to the Audience "Don't tell Disney I'm doing the Ratatouille trick."Now that you're no longer being assailed by phantom entities, it's actually a relatively quick process to find and gather the Paradise Herbs you're looking for. It's actually quite plentiful in this forest, it seems, and you manage to stock up an entire bag's worth of cuttings from them, while Azalea herself seems to harvest a few seeds to tuck away into her miniscule bag. She also pretty much immediately bit into one of the leaves and chewed it up for a few seconds before swallowing, only commenting that it "Doesn't feel like it did much!" for her. Knowing what you do of the enormous natural lifespan of Fairies, it makes sense that she wouldn't really notice a difference. When you try chewing up a mouthful of it, you note that it has an almost minty flavor...and upon swallowing, you don't quite feel a burst of energy, but more like a steady stream of it starting to supplement your natural lifeforce. More than that, though, you feel a certain sense of...relief, an invisible weight lifted off your shoulders now that you don't have to constantly wonder just how many years you have left before your body will inevitably fail you.Your job is hardly over, however. You still have to create the ultimate martial arts. You still have to seek greater challenges to satisfy the calling of your blood. You still have to protect the innocent, and punish the wicked. At least now, you have...time.>Dragon Ball: Legacy #3 - Thread End!>Next Thread: 4/21/2023. See you then!
Enjoying the ride so far? It's been a while since I last asked, so are there any comments, complaints, criticisms? Favorite moments? Anything in particular you're looking forward to?I'll be here until the next thread, so I'm able to answer any and all questions that people have!
>>5634453See you in ten days QM!
Oh, and remember to archive this thread
>>5634460Thanks for the reminder bro, I'm on it!
>>5634456I kind of wouldn't mind a bit more focus for a bit, on a single quest or objective for a longer period of time. The pacing's mostly pretty good, but I deifnitely feel like if we keep up at this breakneck pace, we're going to speedrun past some good character beats, or make collecting some of these legendary artefacts feel a little petty in how fast and easy it is.That said, I'm loving the quest, characters, tone, and how you're handling the canon. My main motivation for wanting to slow down a little si to see mroe of all that. Thanks for running!
>>5634456This was a pretty sweet thread, thank you for QM'ing, Genkai!>favorite momentGarlic fight, hands down.
>>5634456>Favorite momentsRoom of Time and learning magic was solid. Azalea's confession/proposition was cute, too.
>>5634617>>5634628It had to be the garlic fight for me too. Room of time was pretty sweet, hiredugarn has one of the sickest designs i've ever seen, but god DAMN was it satisfying to write some real punchy shit in the Garlic fight. I tend to like the 'climactic' fights of each little arc the most - the fight against Ei, Spreen, and Chokes was pretty fun to write. High-stakes fight are so much more thrilling than like, friendly spars or back to back tournament fights.
>>5634456Currently what we've been doing has felt sort of like a detailed timeskip? Hoping we get some more focused arcs in the future.>Fave momentgarlic fight and learning magic as fun>looking forward tofinally seeing our damn parents
>>5634876>>5634471I see, spending a bit longer on individual scenes would be good, yes. I've mostly been trying to go for an 'episodic' feel, focusing on capturing the moments and interactions that either matter more or display the personalities of the various characters more. I tend to start second-guessing whether a scene is going on too long after a certain point, but I'll keep the feedback in mind to write those longer scenes y'all are lookin for. I also like to keep updates at least close to daily, but longer interactions may either require more breaking points between updates (votes, rolls, etc) or a delay in posting. And sometimes I can't feasibly squeeze in a vote or a roll without it seeming ham-fisted and a little bit pointless. I MIGHT try "write-in anything else you may want to talk about", but those tend to get less responses as a whole and can be frustrating when they populate a good portion of the quest, at least from my perspective as an avid voter in other quests.Anyways, different question for y'all: Do you prefer Original Content or Canon Content for the quest?>Captcha: MGR2GYMetal Gear Rising 2 would indeed be GOTY, captcha...
>>5634972Honetly, both have been good, but I quite like OC content, as long as it doesn't change canon and it has the same feel. So no getting things from a different franchise and just dumping into the world.DB's word feels like it has space for plenty of adventures other then just following Goku's footsteps.
>>5634982>OC content that changes canonYou'll never catch me doin' that. The only things that will change canon will be the actions of Honta, either directly or indirectly. You might butterfly some shit into happening differently, but some things are basically guaranteed to happen. As much as I personally enjoy reading SCQ, I won't be treading that kind of ground with this quest. My aim is to make a DRAGONBALL quest, not what is essentially a custom setting quest.I may use design references, but I do try to keep personalities, backgrounds, etcetera at least decently unique. For example, Tento may LOOK like a young Genkai from YYH, but she's just an ordinary if HIGHLY unlucky anthropologist here.
>>5634876I'm also excited to introduce Azalea to the folks!>>5634972Original content is my favourite, but I do appreocate how you've retained a lot of the series' charm.
>>5634972i just want to say i highly appreciate you using non-dragon ball akira toriyama art for alot of characters.
>>5635030>>5635067Thanks for the compliments, bruddas. The majority of the art I source from dragon quest, despite the fact that I've never played a single dragon quest game. Probably for the best, otherwise it might bias me when using them as references! The full extent of my knowledge is that their magic system is shit like WHOOSH and KAFRIZZLE.
>>5635004Oh shit, you thought the exact example of what I was talking about OCsThat's gret>>5635030>>5635067Also got to agree with these anons about the art and the charm so far. It does feel like it fits right in, specially in the OG series.
>>5634660Oh, and a special shoutout to that time when you did a dual beatdown on the entity with Barbar. That was fun to write.Fights with uneven numbers are enjoyable because of how chaotic it can get for the disadvantaged party.
>>5635122I can recommend Chrono trigger for mostly the same reasons as dragon quest. Toriyama has done alot of art over the years.i recommend going on https://characterdesignreferences.comand looking up Akira Toriyama for a wide array of character designs projects he has done. (some lack color tho)
>>5635684I honestly didn't expect the first picture in his portfolio to be a bunch of naked pirates on a ship doing various shenanigans and bangin each other. Thanks though, an EXCELLENT resource!
A small update. I said that we'd be rolling out a new thread today, but I'm unexpectedly busy because I have to take my dog to the vet. It's nothing serious, but it is something concerning and worth the visit. On the off chance that it ends up a bigger deal than I expect, I'm going to delay the new thread until monday - 4/24. Sorry about the delay, and I look forward to resuming Honta's adventures with you gentlemen at the start of next week.
>>5642563Hope your dog get better QM, see you monday!
>>5642590Thanks for the well wishes! It looks like she's doing fine just now, just some infection I'll have to stay on top of for the next few days. So pushing next thread out a bit seems to have been a wise choice in this case.
>>5642563>>5642759Good luck with the dog, and I'm glad it sounds like she'll be okay. Thanks again for running!
>>5645502New thread, please redirect all new shitposts there.
