Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll however many D100 are specified. 5- is a 'crit fail' and generally means something bad is about to happen. 95+ is a 'crit success' and generally means something good just happened. a 'crit success' trumps a crit fail. User input on both will be taken into consideration.

New Discord for questions, discussions and announcements: https://discord.gg/MjDEYHTJ

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills. On the road, you met Fie, the Fire Gym Leader, Gareth a novice Aura Guardian on pilgrimage and Holly, a runaway heiress using a pseudonym. You've also made enemies of Team Green a group of violent, radical activists looking to abolish pokemon training.

Last time, you battled a wild Gengar, got some well-earned sleep, found out Fie's dad was coming to visit and started your battle with Emma for your third badge.

"Syurm, Synthesis!" You order.

"Finish it off, Coalossal." Emma says. "Smack Down.

As you watch, Syurm's aura briefly recovers into the green, before a single rock, hurled at bulleting velocity by Coalossal takes Syurm in the abdomen and knocks her aura straight past the red and into the grey of unconsciousness.

You're about to recall her when Fie blows her whistle.

"Time out!" She barks, before hurrying over, already digging through the emergency first aid kit at her hip.

You rush over in alarm and blanch as you see the ragged cracks in Syurm's carapace where the rock hit her.

"Is she..." You begin, feeling cold.

"She'll be alright, but she's going to need a week or two to recover." Fie predicts. "Give me her ball and I'll send her to your mum." She adds as she gives Syurm a revive.

You nod, before recalling her after giving Syurm a vague reassurance she'll be alright before returning her and handing her ball to Fie, who hurries away, before returning a minute later.

"All good. Leavanny is unable to battle." She declares.

Our team is pretty hard countered by that Coalossal. I'm thinking of either switching to Rascal for the mobility (though the Stealth Rock is still up) or Latias (I'm still a bit hesitant to use her so soon or at all even).

He flaps his wings and takes to hovering opposite Coalossal, watching it intently.

"No need to be fancy, Coalossal. Smack Down." Emma orders.

"Secret Power!" You order and Rascal dives in at Coalossal just as it launches another rock.

Rascal's dive winds up coming in a hair too early and he winds up missing Coalossal and taking Coalossal's rock head-on, knocking him senseless and sending him crashing into the ground and skidding across the arena out of bounds, his aura a deep, angry red, even as Coalossal's aura slowly changes to a burned orange as the sickly purple that had been speckling it becomes more common place.

Rascal does manage to struggle up, but he's in a bad way.

While you're pondering what to do however, Emma recalls Coalossal, before releasing a Salandit in its place.

"I think Coalossal's done enough for now, don't you?" She says conversationally.

It doesn't look like there's anything out of the ordinary with this Salandit and if you were to guess, you'd say it's roughly as strong as Rascal.

Either way, Coalossal might be taking a break, but it's not out and this fight is already looking like a longshot at best.

You're glad you didn't set a percentage bet, that's for sure.

"Braviary is unable to battle." Fie declares.

You're two pokemon down and Emma's yet to lose one. Coalossal is heavily injured and Salandit is moderatly injured, but given how things are going, it might just be better to quit while you're ahead.

"Quick Attack into Double Team, dodge it, Blitz!" You order frantically.

The bomb of purple sludge is in the air as Blitz starts running and weaving his way across the arena, leaving after-images in his wake, neatly avoiding the Sludge Bomb as it hits the ground harmlessly, audibly hissing as it does so, while Blitz leaves a sea of afterimages in his wake.

"Now, Dragon Dance!" You order, siezing the opportunity to get some initiative back.

"Clever." Emma admits. "Salandit, use Taunt." She orders.

Salandit chitters, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

You have to wonder what Emma was playing at there. Taunt's not a move you're familiar with.

Well, whatever the case you need to start getting some damage in on Salandit.

"Dragon Breath!" You order.

"Heh. Let's make this interesting: Dragon Pulse, Salandit." Emma orders.

Blitz belches a tongue of purple fire as he continues to charge around, before Salandit responds with a broad blast of similarly purple energy.

The two attacks clash, before the Dragon Breath blows through the Pulse and tags Salandit, turning its aura to red.

It's breathing heavily now and looks one good hit from keeling over.

Blitz meanwhile, isn't looking much better after taking the Dragon Pulse. He looks like a lovetap could knock him out, nevermind anything Salandit has been dishing out.

This particular match up looks like it'll come down to whoever manages to make the first move.

The mon vibrating on the spot to counter sound based moves both status and weaker attacks than Hypervoice/Uproar.

Anime bullshit is allowed in this quest. Remember that.

"Shit." You say through clenched teeth.

Emma just clasps her cane and leans on it as she regards you.

Gen2 and LGPE did not have a limit on how many EVs can be gained in total.

Officially withdrawing Sage from the match works better.
This is a league sanctioned match remember, not a street brawl.
We can use the rules to consider our pokemons well-being.
She cant be called out again of course but we don't have to worry about her getting hurt or injured like Syrum.
Sadly the gambit with the Lightscreen didn't work out but a destroyed Lightscreen is better than an injured pokemon at this point.

OP you railroad too much.
>I'm withdrawing her from the match
>>
>>5815392

Do you have any advice on how to improve?

Because I've been doing my damnmedest to *not* railroad.

Addendum: To elaborate on why Emma keeps asking if you're going to give up, it's because she knows your team now and she knows that she can just hammer you into the ground without much effort from this point.

She's seeing where your pride takes a back seat for the welfare of your team.
>>
>>5815433
That much is obvious.
She is also likely very hastily trying to get us out of the gym so Fie doesn't end up knocked up on her watch (she tattled to Fies dad or leaked a rumor to him but was too rash about it and didn't think shed have to face an injured/burned and out of sorts Alex).

In terms of improving.
Maybe less lasting injuries for crit fails.
Maybe leave it at 1 days impediment and rest unless it is a successive one or the players abused their mons well-being by being excessively careless.
The dice are fickle and a 5% chance to send our mons home for 2 weeks treatment and rest is too high to keep the quest going.

Aside from that when players give a reasonable write in its best to think about it.
Any sanctioned league would allow a pokemon to be withdrawn from a match permanently (for their well being) without demanding it be knocked out or a forfeit from the trainer.
We don't operate on game rules but on RP.
>>

>less lasting injuries for crit fails.

I wasn't expecting them to be quite as frequent as they have been. The big one there for injuries though is critical knock-outs. Reason I went with injuries in the first place was to give a reason to have some depth to the roster.

The timing though is something I've been thinking about a lot though - this isn't Xcom. Max on that though going forward is going to be a week. With an open roll.

>Aside from that when players give a reasonable write in its best to think about it.

I do my best to work with input given.

>Any sanctioned league would allow a pokemon to be withdrawn from a match permanently (for their well being) without demanding it be knocked out or a forfeit from the trainer.

That's true and in retrospect, I probably should've used your aura sense to let you all know that addendum in-post.
>>
>>5815447
So a week worth of rest from now on for injuries and they only happen on crit knockouts.
Seems alright.

If you look at the pacing of the quest you can improve it with more mandatory time skips to run things like management sim.
At least for EV training or reading books/learning the basics of a skill from gym staff (pokemon breeder work would be right up Alex's alley for the farm plan, supporting Fie and becoming a better trainer).

Maybe give us a time-skip of Alex and co. at the Flying type gym being run haggard/hazed like they are in an army boot-camp as a write in and we vote what he does over the course of 2 weeks working there side from work.

>Learn how to do efficient EV training
>EV train specific pokemon
>Tutor specific moves to pokemon (like 1 move a day with guaranteed 1/3 progress unless the daily roll is good)
>Work on specific 1-2 move combos to make them smooth (Doubleteam-Dragondance seem a safe bet or Quick attack-Doublekick)
>Pokemon care/studying the breeders trade (there are probably remote courses he can take to get licensed)

These would be daily tasks of which we could work on 2 a day for each of our pokemon.

As for the rest they are more RP heavy.

>Taking personal security measures after contacting Winters for safe coms. and notifying our family on how to stay safe (maybe send them 10k home for now)
>Flying safety course/License
>Letting Rascal battle as a speed-bump, gym trainer duties (earning pocket money and letting him grow while learning about other flying types, we will likely raise a Talonflame for the gym)
>Regular meetings, talking & sparing session with Gareth and Holly every 3 days to boost our levels and everyone's combat ability.

"No. Outmatched or not, I'm not beaten." You reply as you select Blitz's ball again. "I'm withdrawing Sage from the match though. One injury today is already too many."

She nods, once as you send in Blitz again.

"Well, just to confirm..." She says. "Flamethrower." She orders Incineroar.

Not, you feel, because she expects it to work how she intends, but more it seems for her own curiosity.

The inferno that Incineroar blasts Blitz with engulfs and flows around him and when it clears, he's glowing brightly.

You've never seen Flash Fire in action before, but damn if Blitz doesn't look impressive right now.

Emma smiles to herself.

"Thought so." She says, with evident satisfaction.

"What was that about?" You ask.

"I'll tell you after. Incineroar, Bulldoze." Emma orders.

Incineroar brings its foot down and sends a shockwave rippling out towards Blitz.

Blitz charges forward at your order and bounds over the shockwave relatively unscathed, gaining a fair amount of air and getting above Incineroar without issue.

"Now, Aerial Ace!" You order.

In response, Blitz's glowing aura flares as he slams down into Incineroar like a meteor, immediately dropping its aura into the yellow before he bounds down and away.

"Not bad." Emma admits. "Darkest Lariat."

"Quick Attack, dodge under it!" You order.

Blitz does as you say, ducking under Incineroar's charge, coming out the other side none the worse for wear behind the bigger pokemon with a clear shot at its back.

"Now, Aerial Ace!" You order.

Blitz turns on a dime at your word and charges back at Incineroar, catching it between the shoulders, off-balance and overcommitted from hitting air and knocks it sprawling into the arena floor, breaking its fall with its chest and knocking the breath out of it, leaving it gasping and knocked out on the ground.

"Oh, bravo." Emma says, recalling Incineroar. "You know, you've done better than I thought you would, getting this far." She says conversationally. "Coalossal, finish this - Smack Down!" She orders.

Coalossal is still poisoned and even if it looks like it's not hitting it quite as hard as it was, its aura is still a deep orange right now. A hard enough hit ought to knock it out in your view. Blitz just has to hit it first.

"Quick Attack!" You order.

You can feel your pulse pounding, but you can't tell if it's from nerves or you're amped up over how close this battle is.

Blitz zips in and tackles Coalossal head on, before darting away, dodging the rock Coalossal hurls after him as it shatters into fragments, before the behemoth topples as Syurm's poison does its work, before Emma recalls it.

She chuckles.

"You know, I've been debating who I'd send out to finish this." She says, selecting another ball. "I was going to go with my Ninetales, but I think you and the pup have just about earned a fair fight. Arcanine, come on out."

Across from you, the Arcanine Emma sends out is as tall as your shoulder. It's cot and mane are glossy and it's clear it's been very well trained.

You actually take a step back as it glares imperiously across at you and Blitz whimpers audibly.

"Extreme Speed." She orders.

Well, that's going to live rent free in your head.

"Double Team!" You order.

"Bite." Emma orders.

Arcanine bites down on a double as Blitz generates even more, leaving the arena a sea of motion in which you can barely keep up with him, even being able to make out his aura shining dull green in the sea of doubles.

"Now, Dragon Dance." You order.

"Headbutt." Emma orders.

Once again, Arcanine hits a double instead of Blitz as hw runs through the steps to Dragon Dance, gaining speed and renewed confidence after what you surmise was Arcanine's Intimidate cowing him.

"Morning Sun!" You order desperately.

To Blitz's credit, his aura does start to recover.

It's turned from deep orange to yellow by the time Arcanine has closed the distance, but as the bigger pokemon shoulder checks him, he loses concentration and his aura drops to grey as he slumps over, defeated.

"Growlithe is unable to battle. Victory goes to Emma." Fie pronounces.

You let out a gusty sigh.

You're not even really that disappointed.

That was one hell of a battle.

"Great job, Blitz." You say as you recall him.

"That was well handled." Emma compliments as you both walk out onto the arena.

"Don't go giving him that, that was shit."

Emma scowls as you both turn to where the observation was called from the stands.

Leaning on the rail is a bear of a man in an open-collared shirt, dusty denim jeans and battered work boots.

Fie rolls her eyes, schooling her features into a more neutral look as she turns around.

Sounds like a terrible idea that will affect us in the future, unless I'm missing something and he already knows.
But why do you guys think Emma told on us? He'd probably say the same threats to any guy Fie compliments.

He showed up WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early and he sat down to watch some noboby battle for a badge, instead of doing whatever else he wanted to do. Coincidences? Sure, but that is a little too perfect for my tastes.

Also include the 1 on 1 write in.
We smack his pokemon with Latias then Alex gets to either humble him with aura or probe if the old man has it too which is likely.
If he has aura directly learning from him will do us good.
Our pokemon also need the strength training for straightforward fights.

"Maybe. Won't keep me from trying." You reply.

"Don't test me, boy." Noris warns.

"Or what?" You challenge.

Norris scowls down at you.

It's pretty clear that he's used to the shovel talk being enough to scare most people off trying to date Fie.

He's not used to being stood up to and it's both throwing him for a loop and pissing him off.

"You've got a lot of cheek for a kid who just got his shit wrecked by an old lady past her prime." He says, tossing a poke ball and releasing a Machoke.

"Dad-" Fie begins sharply, clearly unimpressed by this.

Beside you, Emma's hand has gone to her own belt, but she doesn't release a poke ball yet, looking to you curiously.

You can sense her approval of your standing your ground and her curiosity as to what you'll do next.

Getting some of Kurts manuals for Friend balls at least should do us good.
The mechanic of them boosting Friendship to a high mid range is probably some sort of telepathic utility to understand the pokemons feelings and mood better.

The order comes a shade late as Machoke does its best to get at you, being body-blocked by Latias as she tries to launch a Psybeam simultaneously.

Her shot goes wide and blows a torso-sized hole in the wall of the arena underneathwhere Norris is standing.

"That's enough!" Fie shouts as Machoke takes a wary step back to square up with Latias.

You nod, but don't return Latias just yet as Norris glowers down at you.

"No dad, you're out of line this time." Fie says, shaking her head. "Ordering your pokemon to attack someone over this? Expect an official complaint over this." She adds.

"He can't-"

"I'm old enough to be making my own decisions, dad." Fie says implacably. "I'm running a gym, same as you, and I don't have all the official warnings for it you have either." She notes.

"Don't you-" Norris begins, growing redder now with mixed rage and humiliation.

"Norris." Emma says, implacably. "Go home, fix yourself a strong cup of tea and get a hold of yourself." She admonishes. "You're proving nothing right now other than that you're an immature bully."

Norris recoils, as though stung before recalling Machoke and storming out under his own personal thundercloud.

You nod. She's got a point.

Holly nods and Gareth gives you a thumb's up.

"Then you're going to want to get going. The ferry leaves soon." Fie advises. "Best swap out Syurm before you go, though." She advises.

You wince as you recall the crack in her carapace from Coalossal's Smack Down.

That's going to take time to heal.

With that, you head to the PC.

When you call home, you're surprised to be greeted by Fluffy and Volta jumping up in front of your mum before she chivvys them out of the way.

>Occa
This one is going to be important along with Rawst.

There has to be a reason why Fire type specialists are so rare.
My idea is that Fire type energy is the most dangerous for the human body.
Hence why Emma was insisting on propriety.
Where other type specialists suffer behavioral compulsions and psychological issues, Fire type specialists/aura users suffer several physical issues at least until they have trained Fire immunity (attained Flash-fire):
>Low body fat content due to water evaporating from the body, which leads to a surplus of Protein within the body that needs to be consumed through exercise or there is risk of heart attack (otherwise solved by excessive drinking of water).
>General trouble with emitting Flames when highly emotional or in pain and needing to learn how to control Fire.
>Men go bald and sterile due to excessive body heat and burning their hair off.
>Women often loose their lives or their children's lives during childbirth because the pain forces them to emit Flames.

As for the way to train Flash-fire.
Aside from actually training as a Fire specialist that is:
>Learn Sunny-Day and Will-o-wisp
>Munch on Occa and Rawst before exercise
>Practice re-absorbing Sunny-Day safely like how Ash's Torterra re-absorbs its Energy-ball to activate the ability.
>After verifying it works with Sunny-Day practice cautiously with Will-o-wisp until the ability is fully manifested

Well.

You've got a good supply of Leppa berries now and this probably isn't going to take a minute...

You wave, before diverting into the green grocer.

It only takes a second to find the berries and you waste no time in bundling a bunch of different ones into your basket, from the more common Cherri and Oran Berries to the far rarer and proportionally more expensive Pamtre Berry.

You're tempted to grab more, but for the time being, you feel what you have will be sufficient to your needs.

Your shopping spree thus concluded, you head for the check out and pay for your purchases, wincing a little at the price, but in your mind, it's worth it. Particularly the Pamtre Berries, which you're going to put to good use when you've grown more of them.

Piker is going to adore the Blocks you get out of them, you just know it.

You hurry to catch up with Holly and Gareth and reach them as Gareth's hanging up on a call.

"Get what you were after?" He asks.

"Not everything, but I did get some good stuff." You reply, handing him the receipt so he can see what you bought. "Who was that?" You ask curiously.

"Jean. Apparently the Lake Credo track was a lot rougher than they were expecting, so she was just ringing to let us know not to wait up for them." He explains.

"Are they okay?" You ask with concern.

You only really know the various tracks by reputation, but one thing you've commonly heard about all of them is that they're hard hikes and inhabited by very strong pokemon.

It's not unheard of for even tough trainers to struggle with them.

"More or less. A bit bruised and Martha apparently wound up with a broken arm, but nothing too bad besides that." Gareth replies.

You wince.

"Well, on the bright side, at least we're not standing them up."

Gareth nods.

"Yeah, I was feeling a weensy bit guilty about that." He admits.

"How far did they get?" You asked.

"About half way." Gareth replies. "They wound up getting rescued by the Rangers, apparently."

"Oooof." You say, wincing again in sympathy. "I'd hate to get the dressing down they must've gotten."

"Dressing down?" Holly asks, confused. "What did they do wrong?" She asks.

"So, the bush tracks aren't official routes, so the paths have been blazed and cut by trainers." You explain. "The Rangers really don't like that, because it disturbs the habitat of wild pokemon and provides an easy-ish way for poachers to move around and get at rarer pokemon. Every time someone uses one of those tracks, they tend to make them that little bit easier. Not to mention rile up the pokemon in the area."

"They're not exactly a fan of Aura Guardians for similar reasons." Gareth adds. "Mostly, that's down to city folk play-acting what they don't actually understand, but we get tarred with the same brush." He adds, aggrieved.

If the girls are alright we can take an off-trail path with them to the next cave while tutoring them bush-craft and how to not piss off the rangers by leaving no trail.

Anyway going with the flow if we head for Silveridge.
Another write-in. What happens with Fie and her evening as she moves on from her dad being an ass and finishes up for the day.
Wrote in one of the Game MCs as a current league champion being a busybody for fun and lending a hand.

You think it over for a minute then nod.

It would be nice to see the others again and being able to actually go outside again without worrying about Team Green sounds awesome.

"Yeah, I think we just might." You say.

You reverse direction back to pokemon centre and get your team looked at, before heading to the market and grabbing some groceries, then retracing your steps back past the gym and down the road to Route 3.

It's getting close on mid-morning now, but it's good to be moving again.

Wrong side of town. This is the Route where Gareth caught Rowlet.

Nice writing as usual.
I like you sneaklily setting up Pokemon gift.
Now I'd like to read more about that Brendan guy - and his 6 primo mega legendary goldorak team

You were angling for an Umbreon.

Basically trying to tie in some of my thoughts on the MC i am using for my own fic.

>Possessed by several ghosts as a kid so had to get therapy with his dad to clear that (adult memories + excuse to give him our world pokefan memories to abuse)
>Aside from being a competitive Dragon/Flying type specialist munchkin he worked his way up through helping around his parents farm (Littleroot town) and learning from his techers Aster Draconid (preventing Devon co. from capturing Ray ray while keeping her alive thanks to foreknowledge) and Mura Moore (Lvaridge)
>Saving the ladies (hence the harem) because if you had the foreknowledge to hit on chicks you would use it too
>Pokeathlete because you actually need to train your body for aura anyway...And he enjoys the competition (flying type compulsion) and the chance to show off by dominating (dragon type compulsion)
>Went around helping Lance set up the international popo early to help out game MCs who have the biggest chance to stop events involving legendaries
>Mastered Mega Evolution early
>Generally caring but dominant personality because you do not get to manage a gaggle of women without working for it.

Harem includes:
>Zinnia, Flannery, Phoebe, May
>Gloria
>Hilda
>Daisy Oak, Daisy of Cerulean (Mistys oldest sister) and Karen
>>
>>5844966
Fug counting Battlegirl Laura from R/S/E there is actually 10 women. Chalk it up to some of his harem not being publicly known.

Not at all. My workplace had lay-offs recently and i have savings to live off so i am taking it easy for a while.

Tack on an Everstone collar onto Fluffy and let Blitz out to have him tutor Agility to Fluffy while on the move.

So for a change we arent traveling on my whim or Team Green being a bother but letting you and your girl meet instead.

That sucks, man. The break is always a good consolation for a week or two, but then the lack of routine really starts to suck.

Hope you get something new and better soon.

Yeah it is winter here so i prefer to stay in and solve my backlog of issues.
>Bathroom/toliet needs to be renovated so i am getting gym membership to stay clean

If anything i am glad to be away from a toxic (sometimes literally) work place because i went bald there.

Guess Fluffy has happily learned both Agillity and Quick attack

Or maybe learn a let's go move?

It's the middle of the day. It'd be Espeon.

We tell him to clench its fluffy cheeks really hard until dusk.
>>

We aren't at the threshold. Also we gave him an Everstone to prevent accidents like a potential Sylveon if he learned Babydoll eyes while we weren't looking.
Since we are also able to teach him moves beyond normal (various fang moves, potentially body press and cosmic power) we have to take it slow with his training. It's not like he won't be useful with him knowing Heal Bell, Wish and Protect or right now Agillity and Quick attack for dodging.

You let Blitz and Fluffy out for a run after giving Fluffy one of the Everstones, getting Blitz to show Fluffy Agility and Quick Attack while you walk, keeping a close watch on the two to make sure Blitz behaves himself while you do.

This taken care of, you start chatting with Holly and Gareth and just enjoying the walk, comfortable in the knowledge that for once, you're not going to be dealing with Team Green and their bullshit.

"Got anything planned with Jean?" You ask Gareth with a grin.

He squirms.

"I, er... I really hadn't thought much on it." He mumbles, a brief look of panic stealing across his face.

"You could go out on a date with her." Holly suggests.

>Yeah, there's an idea. Just you and her.

We will ask the girls about Jeans favorite meal if you have not already.
Maybe something more casual than fancy, where you can sit down and read something together like a book about crystalized type energy and the like.

"How about the two of you go out to dinner?" You suggest.

"Well... maybe?" Gareth says weakly.

"Oh, come on." You say cajolingly.

"I'll think about it." He replies.

You nod, satisfied as you watch Blitz and Fluffy getting into the swing of a game of tag, Fluffy quickly catching on to Blitz's use of Quick Attack and Agility to augment his speed and it quickly becomes a fairly even game.

"Excited to see the others again?" You ask Holly.

"Yeah... maybe not Judy as much, but the others, yeah." She replies.

"She a bit much for you?" You guess.

"A bit." Holly agreed with a grimace.

"Maybe try turning it around on her." You suggest. "See if she can take it as well as she can dish it out."

"If she can, I'm blaming you." Holly warns.

You chuckle as you focus on walking as you talk about nothing in particular as the afternoon wears on until it gets to the point you start thinking about camp.
