Last time, on Dragon Ball Tuffle Quest Kai! Izzy led her gang, Basilea’s team, and Piccolo on an expedition to a sunken Nemurian palace complex, and found a surprise in the nearby sunken airship: a being trapped in a formless body claiming to be Nemurian royalty, the former King of all things! In the process of attempting to cure the person from the cursed state he was in, they also came across a skilled Nemurian mage trapped in the body of a puppet-like contraption, alongside artifacts and tomes of great importance. After curing both the cursed mage and the supposed “King” of Nemuria, they faced the evolving remnant of a dead god, one that had taken in a multitude of former people into itself, Aspinthion, that Piccolo thankfully managed to seal away with the Mafuba. Upon earning favor with the merfolk living near the area, Izzy and co. next head to Z’S to seek the aid of Nazar in handling the sealed monstrosity, though the arrival of Majin Ozotto complicated matters, with the demon managing to steal one of the massive Hakkero structures! In spite of that, Izzy and co. have managed to do well, getting the Dreamstone needed to try finding where your lost allies have gone.

Meanwhile, Gohan and Buu have met up with allies of their own for a more personal mission for all of them. What awaits them there? We’ll find that out soon! Good luck, Gohan! Good luck, Peppa! Good luck, Izzy!

You and Buu continue flying off, with Lapis and Chuu Lee close by. “So, this shouldn’t take much time, right?” Lapis asks.

“Yeah, the MOGUERA units have been completely reworked for something like this, and they should be able to handle most of the hard work. We’re mostly just gonna be monitoring them for the time being. Even with the predicted worst case scenario on how deep the fires are, it shouldn’t take more than half a day at most.” you answer.

Lapis nods. “Good to hear. And Gohan? Thanks for this. Monty’s gonna be overjoyed once this is over.”

You smile and look forward. This should be a pretty easy little mission. And it’s not like any of Towa’s goons are gonna be specifically targeting this place, of all places. …Maybe Fu will be snooping around, but if he wants to do that he could at least actually talk to you while he’s there. In any case, you, Buu, Lapis, and Chuu Lee are almost there. You can actually see a vague glow in the distance… one that almost looks like an open gate right to hell as you start go get closer.

So this is the place. Merkez.

“Okay, we’ve still got one more person coming, but we’re just about here. Should sense things out before we start, supposedly still a few people living in the area.” you bring up, starting just that as you slow down a bit. However, there’s another important thing you need to address. “Mess Officer Buu, still got our lunches ready?”

“Uh-huh! Uh-huh!” Buu exclaims excitedly, pulling out the little Capsule container and a different food container. “Buu got it all ready!”

“Thanks bud! All right, let’s see…” Focusing your Ki sensing, you can get the read on a good dozen people in the surrounding area, divided up into three or four groups. There’s a good deal of wildlife, but there’s almost a “hole” in the where you can feel Ki near and around the central crater area, with smaller “cracks” devoid of much life energy. Matches what you were told by Trip. There is, however, something odd you pick up on. You can almost sense a faint presence INSIDE the giant burning hole in the earth, though it’s too vague to really see who or even what it might be.

Setting the MOGUERA units down and having it start up its sensors. Lapis and Chuu Lee seem to have sensed the same things you have thus far, though Chuu Lee crosses her arms as she looks off towards the glowing crater. “…I’m not the only one that feels that, right?”

“You’re not, but I can’t exactly get a read on it.” Lapis replies, to which you nod in agreement.

A moment later, Krillin teleports in, and gives you all a wave. “Hey guys!”

“Hey Mr. Krillin!” you greet with a smile.

“Krillmeister.” Lapis greets as he shares a fist bump with him.

“Lazuli doing okay with the kids?” Chuu-Lee asks.

He gives a quick nod. “Yeah, she decided to take ‘em shopping for a bit.”

MOGUERA finishes its preliminary scans, relaying that it’s identified both the currently burning coal seams, burned out ones, and even some untouched ones that can be closed off before they’re reached. It does look like there’s a LOT of currently burning stuff, and it goes down pretty deep, with an initial seam around 50 meters deep, leading to several others much deeper, down to about 400 meters.

“Still some people in the area, should let them know what’s about to happen, and maybe see if they have any advice on things to watch out for, stay safe while we’re getting this done. Might even know what that… thing in the big burning pit is.” you suggest.

Krillin looks in the direction of it, rubbing his chin. “Huh, now that you mention it, that is pretty odd.”

“Sounds like a plan. Let’s head out.” Lapis states as he floats up and starts to head off.

You and Buu head off in a different direction, locating a small house off a dirt road that had clearly seen better days. Heading a bit closer, you see someone there has noticed you. Looks like… a mouse person, and an older one at that. He’s staring at you and Buu as the two of you land, leaning on the railing of the house’s porch, a cigarette in his mouth. Not especially surprised by you and Buu flying, heck not especially surprised by Buu to begin with. Well… here goes nothin’!

“Hello, sir!” you greet with a wave.

“State yer business here, kid.” he demands grumpily.

Ah. Well you kinda expected that. “Um… hi, I’m part of a group of people who’ll be working on clearing up some of the… you know.” You gesture in the direction of the glowing pit in the distance. “Coal fire and all that.”

His eyes narrow as he blows a smoke ring. “Ya don’t look the type.”

That’s a fair assessment. “We’re a bit atypical. Look, just, want to make sure you and any other folks in the area are aware. There’s going to be some mining equipment used in this.”

“Buu brought lunch!” the mini Majin declares proudly.

“Chedda! Who’s out there?” a woman’s voice asks from inside the house.

“Some kid and his tiny Jiggler pet, says he and his buddies are gonna be puttin’ out some of the coal fire, Gouda!” the mouse man shouts back. He turns his head back to you, now more… curious than suspicious. “How exactly ya gonna be doing that?”

“Mining mech.” you answer plainly. “We’re mostly here to make sure it’s working as intended and keep it from causing anyone living here undue trouble.”

“Change from the Royal Army’s way of handlin’ things.” Chedda grunts.

You rub the back of your neck. “Eheh, I… will take that as a positive, I think. Also, if it isn’t too much to ask, you have any advice for us on like, safe traversal and the like? Also any things to watch out for, like hostile wildlife or anything that frequents the… pit over there?”

He blows another smoke ring, then crosses his arms as he answers firmly, “If yer gonna be workin’ here, we got three rules for ya to follow: Don’t bother folks much. Don’t forget your mask. Don’t upset the Mothman.”

You blink. “…The, er, Mothman?”

He nods in confirmation. “Don’t upset ‘em. Bad things happen.”

“What a moff-man?” Buu asks.

“Big critter. Likes the light. Foretells disaster. Upset ‘em and you’ll regret it.” the mouse man answers bluntly.

You look in the direction of the pit again. You still sense a presence there, maybe… that’s it? Focusing harder, you do get the impression that this is… at the very least something LIKE a person, if not one you’re familiar with. “Er… thank you then, sir! We’ll try to be done with this as quickly as can be!”

“See that ya do.”

You wave to the man and start to fly off, getting your gas mask on, telepathically contacting everyone. ‘Local I talked to seems to be aware of the thing near the pit, as far as I can tell. Might be some kind of moth person?’

‘That’s what the people I met seemed to imply.’ Chuu Lee comments.

‘Well as long as we don’t pester ‘em, shouldn’t be too much of a problem, right?’ Krillin asks.

‘Let’s hope so…’

>A. Just get everything set up and ready to go, looks like you’re in the clear here

You know what? You’ve got an idea. You start to make your way towards the inferno hole and keep your senses on this Mothman guy. Okay, you do have a solid feel on ‘em. You… think this might be a sentient, maybe totally sapient being, if not exactly a typical one. Which means you might be able to communicate with it! …Maybe? Well here goes nothing.

Focusing your mind, you do your best to send a telepathic message to the creature, first making one thing clear: ‘We mean you no harm.’

Stopping in midair, and getting Buu to stop with you, you notice the Ki of the thing rise. You let your own energy rise a bit so it’s more noticeable, but not threatening. And… you hear squeaking noises in your mind. What? Wait… okay, you can sorta focus more on them. It’s getting ideas across, if not quite with full words. It… doesn’t quite seem to trust you on that. It does also seem distracted. You can roughly translate some of that from pure idea into words… though what you’re getting is mostly ‘LAMP’ and ‘SPICY LAMP’ and ‘SPICY LAMP HURT’ over and over.

…Okay trying something new here. ‘It hurts because it’s not a good… lamp. We’re here to keep lamp from hurting others. But we need to be able to shut it off. Can… you help with that?’

There’s slightly less squeaking in your mind, and more some bizarre noises, but they’re still getting ideas across. Mostly a sense of caution, but a partial willingness to see if you’re being truthful. You then sense the thing move at fairly high speeds, though not really trying to run away. It’s more like it’s trying to lead you somewhere? Okay, this is good.

“Come on Buu, we might have a lead on this.” you tell the little Majin, speeding after this thing.

When you catch up to it, you end up at a… mine shaft? Interesting, but you guess it makes sense. Looking around, you catch glimpse of two red lights further down the abandoned mine’s entrance… which you can guess, based on what you sense, are the creature’s eyes. It sends a message to you more directly, and you receive it as ‘SPICY AIR STRONG IN CAVE.’

Aha, that makes sense.

‘Thank you, Mr. Mothman!’ you say telepathically. …You know maybe this thing has a proper name? Couldn’t hurt to ask. ‘Er, pardon, but do you have a name, or something to call you by?’

You see the red eyes deeper in the cave tilt slightly, almost like how an owl tilts its head to observe something. You’re given projected images for a moment, and one of the more complete sentences it’s been able to present to you: ‘THIS ONE... LEO’, followed by, ‘CALLED BY… MOTHERS…’ The image of something very vaguely humanoid and yet avianoid, and almost like it’s wearing some kind of suit or dress or something, followed by the image of two… fairies to your surprise, and finally- …wait that’s Mothra!

Okay you probably should have expected that. Mothman. Mothra. It’s… odd that it doesn’t look much like her or any of her smaller offspring, but you’re no expert on Kaiju biology and you have no idea what that first thing was regardless. Plus the way the thing is projecting the image of Mothra to you is certainly more... cutsey and sweet than you are really used to. Eh, maybe that’s just how he thinks of his... moth mom, you guess. ‘Say, did… the spicy air hurt you at all? If so, we can help you.’

There’s a blink of the glowing red eyes, and a sudden rush of wind as the creature flies out of the entrance in a burst of speed. It then goes into a forested area nearby, but makes sure you can still vaguely see it, perched on a large branch. Still can’t get a clear idea, but you notice its body is predominantly black, and it has wings of some kind that seem to cover its body more like a bird’s, yet with a shimmer and pattern to them like a moth’s wing scales. The thing then telepathically responds to you, showing a hesitance to allow such a thing from you. However, it also gives the impression that it might need to be looked over. There are… also the words ‘VISION’ and ‘PROPHECY’ repeating a couple times circling around your head.

You know what, sure, the thing might be able to fortune-tell. Somehow. Well, here it goes. “Hey, Buu, can you approach that guy over there? But only approach, wait until it’s okay with you coming closer before you do anything. It might need help.”

Buu looks up at you, then gives a nod. “Buu understand! Help good, but make trust first!”

You hold your hand out to high-five him. “Atta boy, bud.” He then waddles off proudly, while you next check with everyone. ‘Buu and I have started an investigation into a mine shaft area with our Mothman pal nearby, if you wanna head over here to start up MOGUERA over here it might help, but I’d like to head into the mine shaft first. Up to you guys on where you think it’d be best.’

‘Gotcha, Gohan. We’ve spotted a place nearby that might work, but Krillin’s gonna head your way too.’ Lapis responds.

You look back towards the mine shaft, then decide to check something. With your hand on the Muramasa, you hold it up and ask it, “How do you feel about this ‘spicy air’?” You’re mostly checking for if it has a reaction, but seems like a good idea nonetheless.

The regularity of its pulses of energy do seem to change slightly, but not enough to cause alarm, so as far as you can tell this is just normal toxins deep down in here. For now, at least. Krillin arrives as you start to head in, waving for him to follow you. Pretty dark, so you form a small orb of Ki to help light the way.

“So… what’s the deal with that thing?” Krillin asks, clearly meaning the Mothman outside.

“Apparently Mothra’s… kid? He claims he’s called ‘Leo’ by his ‘mothers’ and at the very least one of them is Mothra herself.” you answer. “I’m not completely sure, to be honest, but the thing also might be hurt by the toxins in the area, so Buu’s gonna look ‘em over when he’s able.”

“Heh, good that you’re looking out for something like that.” Krillin says, and you can tell he’s smiling underneath his gas mask.

As you head in deeper, you notice that the air somehow feels… heavier. It’s being filtered through the mask perfectly well, but there’s a thickness to it you can just barely notice, but notice nonetheless. There’s also a considerable increase in temperature. Tracks with what you’ve been made aware of so far, but you’re gonna keep your guard up, just to be sure. No telling what’s down there…

As you and Krillin march on down the mine shaft, you do notice some collapsed tunnels where there’s a noticeable increase in air temperature radiating from them. There’s… also something rather foul down there, not enough that you think your mask isn’t effective, but enough that it’s concerning. You… weirdly also get the impression of a Ki signature much, much deeper down.

“Hey, you feeling that too, Gohan?” Krillin asks.

“I think so…” you reply, trying to focus to get a better read on it. Hm. Too far away, and not giving off enough energy to really tell what it is. “Got any clues on it?”

“It feels… rotten, somehow.” Krillin remarks. “Not in the sense that I can smell it, but the Ki feels… wrong.”

“Buu’s likely going to be able to handle things better than we can, maybe we can have him check it out?” you suggest.

“That can work.” Krillin replies with a nod, placing two fingers on his forehead and holding his hand out. “Here, grab on.”

You grin just a bit, then tell him, “Nah, I’ve got something of my own I can do.” That causes Krillin to raise an eyebrow at you, so you focus on the area right outside the tunnel. “Kai Kai.” And you teleport out of there, spotting Buu near Leo the Mothman, hands out and… healing the thing. You smile at that.

Krillin appears next to you. “Woah, when’d you learn how to do that, kiddo?”

You look down slightly, a sad smile on your face, even though he can’t see it. “Fu said I should be able to do that… right before my dad got hit by one of the shards.”

There’s a beat of silence, then Krillin places his hand on your shoulder, reassuringly reminding you, “We’ll get ‘em back. And I know he’s okay. Takes way more than that to keep Goku down, haha.”

You turn your head and give a quick nod of agreement, then wave to Buu. “Hey bud! Got a mission for ya! Leo all okay?”

Buu turns his head and grins wide. “Uh-huh! Him no longer hurt from spicy air.” The creature leaps into one of the trees, the red eyes staring at you and Krillin. Buu laughs a little at that. “He funny!” The little Majin then marches over to you.

You place your hands on your hips. “Okay Special Agent Buu, we need you for Operation Canary: searching out a Ki signature of something deeper in the mine down there. You’ll need to show off your stealth skills, too. And for this mission, we’ll need to give you a code name. How about… ‘Buu Buu Birdy’?”

“Hmmm… Buu can do!” he declares with a salute.

You salute back. “Keep us informed, Special Agent Buu Buu Birdy.” He proudly starts to march down the tunnel, humming a little tune to himself as he does, you and Krillin watching on.

Briefly, Krillin glances at Leo the Mothman still observing the two of you from the trees. “Well… looks like it’s still friendly?”

“Yeah. Still not entirely sure what his deal is, but he’s not hostile.” you state as you glance in the same direction.

Krillin next focused on you. “By the way, how’d you pull off that teleport? It didn’t look like Instant Transmission. You said Fu brought it up to you, but like, what is it?”

“It’s because I’m technically an apprentice to a Supreme Kai.” you start to explain. “That allows me to use certain abilities the Kais can call upon. The Kai Kai, a form of Instantaneous Movement that requires only the ability to clearly visualize the target destination, and not lock on to anyone’s specific Ki.”

“Sounds pretty handy. Though I guess it’s not something that can be easily taught, huh?” Krillin questions.

“I mean, I think it requires a specific training and like… Ki type? Zarid was able to learn it pretty quickly when I explained the concept, as were Tapion and Minotia. But Zarid’s training under his Earth’s Kami, and Tapion and Minotia are apprentices to a Supreme Kai like I am.” you explain. “Though I guess it also comes with some other perks, like an easier healing ability.”

“Hmm… come to think of it, Mr. Popo has a Magic Carpet that sorta has something similar to that, just in a limited form.” Krillin recalls. “Plus, I think Trip is able to teleport to certain places on her own if I remember a talk I had with her correctly… well, still, that’s plenty useful.”

Oh yeah, you figure Trip’d have something like that too. Well, regardless, you’ve still got a mission here. You check in with Lapis and Chuu Lee, asking, ‘How’s MOGUERA doing? Its sensors working well, everything operating as intended? How about scans for like, anything involving Black Water Mist, Destron Gas, Aquma?’

‘So far all systems are green. High levels of Carbon Monoxide and Methane deeper down and some pretty nasty stuff, but so far all of it is mundane. There are some odd things showing up, but odd in like, higher concentrations of certain chemicals than should be normal.’ Lapis answers.

Okay you definitely have done well enough on your chemistry exams to know those former things are pretty toxic, but you’re a bit curious. ‘Certain chemicals such as…?’

‘Hydrogen fluoride. Very nasty stuff. Poisonous, acidic, causes substantial damage to any tissues it comes into contact with.’ he replies. ‘At least that’s what this is telling me. Treatment for chemical burns caused by it is… very detailed and very unpleasant.’

You shudder a bit. ‘Right, well, thanks for sparing the details. Krillin and I sensed some kind of Ki signature deep in the abandoned mine, Buu’s heading off to investigate it. Where’s MOGUERA currently?’

There’s a brief pause, then Lapis answers, ‘Headed towards one of the larger seams to cut it off from the main source and turn off the heat. 15 km from where you guys are.’

‘Got it. We’ll keep you guys informed if Buu finds anything.’ And on that note, you contact the little Majin next. ‘Hey bud, you found the thing?’

‘It trying to go deeper into big cave. Where it’s very warm. Buu try to talk to it but it not say anything! Rude.’ he responds, and you can tell he’s pouting at that last remark. ‘Buu can get to it very quick, but Buu not wanna scare it. Still rude though…’

‘You should catch up to it, Buu. It’s good you’re not trying to scare it, but better it doesn’t try going down deeper into the more dangerous areas, okay?’ you tell the little Majin.

‘Okay! Buu find ‘em!’

You next look to Krillin and comment, “Hey, maybe we can kinda use Instant Transmission and Kai Kai in tandem? I can get to places I can visualize, you can get to Ki signatures you can sense, so maybe working in tandem we can get to some places we wouldn’t be able to on our own.”

“Hey, that’s a great idea! Good thinking, kiddo.” he responds with a thumb’s up.

‘Buu found it!’ the Majin declares. ‘They weird wormy guys!’

…Okay that’s not what you expected. ‘Weird… wormy guys?’

‘Uh-huh! They hungry. And smelly.’ Buu confirms.

‘Okay… what exactly are they doing?’

‘They tryin’ to eat rocks. Buu gonna give them some candy instead!’

‘...You know what, sure, it shouldn’t hurt them that much.’ you tell Buu. ‘If they start being rude to you, toss a soda to ‘em and get out of there.’

‘Okay!’

“Yo, everything all right Gohan?” Krillin inquires.

“Well… there’s definitely something down there, or rather, a group of somethings. Worms, lots of them, somehow.” you answer.

Krillin tilts his head. “...Worms?”

“Worms. Apparently ‘eating rocks’ or the like, which very likely means they might be subsisting on whatever is down there. Which is…’

“Not good.” Krillin finishes.

“Mhmm. Especially if this is more of a ‘worm that walks’ kind of situation. Might need to rethink how we approach it.” You turn your attention towards the Mothman in the tree. “Hey, Leo! You know anything about those worms in there?”

https://youtu.be/t2gaZR8u_yE?si=jam01tUtFJrSKhOK

The bright red eyes of the creature lock on to you. A soft yet ethereal hum seems to come from him, and you get a few psychic images rush through your head. Things vaguely resembling flatworms burrowing through the dirt, multiplying and spreading, and then… forming together, into a larger and larger shape, very vaguely humanoid. Two massive, glowing eyes form in the shape, moving in opposing directions before focusing right on you.

You shudder a little. “…So I take that as a bad thing.”

‘SPICY WORMS’

You blink. “…Right. Spicy worms, it says.”

Krillin turns to look at the Mothman. “Uh… huh. That’s a vivid way to describe such a thing, I guess-?”

The ground starts to shake. You and Krillin lift up into the air slightly and keep your senses sharp. There are… more very small Ki signatures in the area. Many, many more. Thousands. Maybe hundreds of thousands. Each one would barely register as anything more than an actual bug or even blade of grass, but… all of them moving like this makes it all the more clear that they’re very much neither of those things.

‘They don’t like soda!’ Buu exclaims, and you can sense the Majin flying fast back towards you.

The more concerning thing is… as the shaking subsides, you sense all those thousands upon thousands of Ki signatures going down deeper into the earth. They… might be headed towards a coal vein! Lapis checks in with you, asking, ‘Hey Gohan, seismic readings from MOGUERA spiked suddenly. What’s going on?’

>A. Wormsign, Lapis, wormsign the likes of which not even Kami has seen before

‘It’s wormsign, Lapis, wormsign the likes of which not even Kami has seen before.’ you declare ominously.

He laughs at that. ‘Okay Stilgar. I take it they’re headed your way then?’

‘Quite the opposite. They’re digging deep, thousands and thousands of them, and might be going for one of the coal veins. Maybe we can cut them off before they get to that point, though. Lapis, think you and Chuu Lee think you can get MOGUERA to track them with its seismic sensors?’

‘Should be able to do that, we’ll get the thing set on that now. Do you have a plan though?’ Lapis inquires.

‘They’re worms, so they should be able to sense and respond to certain vibrations.’ you begin, a grin forming on your face as you explain the next part. ‘I have my guitar with me. If I can get sound to play through MOGUERA’s systems, that can attract them towards it and away from the burning coal veins.’

‘I… guess I can see the logic in that. Well, we’ll get that ready. Rock on, Gohan.’

You turn to Krillin and Buu and explain the idea. Buu is eager to get back on the drums, while Krillin’s tasked with finding a place to put them so they don’t keep causing problems. At the same time, there’s one more thought that crosses your mind… there COULD be some kind of Magic at play with this, just something you can’t pick up on because these things aren’t easily detected unless congregated together, and that Magic could be something… unpleasant. Could be a number of things, up to and including needing exorcism…

Well, here it goes…

https://youtu.be/AcGcaVj1cCQ?si=s74-w92MnBkC5ncX

As you try to get a tune going that you think will attract them, Buu attempts to play the drums to match… but that doesn’t seem to work as intended. What’s more, the ones that are close to MOGUERA don’t seem drawn to it, but rather are moving away from it. Not how you wanted it to go, but… maybe this can still work to your advantage still! You keep playing, and have MOGUERA instead CHASE them away from the coal seam and back towards you!

It takes a moment, but eventually you can sense the Ki from the thousands upon thousands of creatures all tunneling through the earth, which again begins to quake from the sudden movement. You keep playing though, leaping into the air with Buu and Krillin. Finally, the ground shifts and cracks, almost like the earth itself has an open wound, with slimy, bizarre creatures starting to ooze out of it. They’re… the closest thing you can really compare them to is like ‘clotted mercury’ with beady little eyes. Certainly worm-like, but not any worms you’re familiar with. Then again you’re no worm expert. Wormologist? Damn it, what’s that word…?

“GOT ‘EM!” Krillin declares, a massive turtle shell Ki construct formed above him that he slams into the ground. As MOGUERA keeps closing in on them, more and more ooze into the shell, and once there are enough, Krillin flips it over and scoops the multitude worms into the shell. Lifting it into the air, he gives you and Buu a thumb’s up.

‘SPICY WORMS’ Leo declares psychically, letting off a more panicked set of noises.

‘We got ‘em, bud! Don’t worry! Everything’s under control!’ you declare.

…And right as you say that, there’s an odd raspy sound coming from the collection of worms. You turn your head towards them, and watch as they start to… coalesce.

And more worryingly… telepathically speak. In the voice of multitudes.

‘{WE ARE HULUD-RAH.}’

‘{WE HATE YOU.}’

You stare the thing…s? Gestalt? Gestalt. You stare the gestalt down, raising an eyebrow slightly, and ask it, “…Okay, but why though? Why are you even here?” At the same time, telepathically, you warn Krillin that if it attacks you, he should back up and be ready for a trick you’ve worked on for just this occasion.

The multitude of worms take on a lurching form, one that almost overflows from the massive Ki turtle shell Krillin made.

‘{WE WERE CALLED HERE}’

‘{WE WERE DRAWN HERE}’

‘{WE WERE DRIVEN HERE}’

‘{TO GROW}’

‘{TO THRIVE}’

‘{TO EVOLVE}’

‘{TO BE MORE}’

‘{TO REPLACE THE IMPERFECT}’

‘{TO PERFECT THIS WORLD}’

Almost expected the Symphony of the Night speech when it started that response. “...I’m not sure I understand, how were you called or drawn here? We can take you back to where you came from if you’d like-”

‘{YOU ARE IMPERFECT}’

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

Okay so it’s not going to be helpful. You try to ease it, but also attempt to sense for any kind of… entity that exists in this thing that’s making it act like this. Backing up slightly, you keep your focus on it, and… there isn’t so much as a singular force of darkness residing through them as they ALL seem to have some kind of feedback with one another. One that sees you, and all around you, as… wrong, wrong on a visceral level, wrong and in need of being made “right”, for whatever sense of “right” exists within this hive mind.

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

So. It’s not possessed. Good, you… think? “Okay what exactly is ‘imperfect’ about me? Were you that offended by my musical skills?”

‘{SONIC DISHARMONY}’

‘{YOU ARE IMPERFECT}’

‘{YOU WILL JOIN THE CHORUS OF EVOLUTION}’

‘{YOU WILL BE MADE COMPLETE}’

‘{PERFECTED}’

‘{ANEW}’

Hulud-Rah lets out unpleasant sound, and the blob-like body it’s made for itself lifts up from the shell slightly, letting out some gaseous jets of… something foul from its body. And it’s flying. Shit. Well it’s attacking, so here it goes! Fire, Lightning, Light, all together. You charge the Magic through your body, then bring your hands forward towards your face. This’ll knock ‘em down! Here it goes!

“SUPERFLARE!”

The blinding light and jolt of energy hits Hulud-Rah like a truck, stunning the gestalt being and knocking it to the ground. Krillin, having been properly warned of that, forms another massive turtle shell and scoops the thing between the pair of them. Buu for his part actually sucks in the toxic gasses that it spewed out. His face scrunches up.

“Blegh! Mothman right! Spicy air! Yucky! Pew!” the little Majin shudders. “But no more bad spicy air from smelly worms!” he cheers.

Apologies, passed out for a moment.

You float down towards the captured gestalt. “All right, first of all: Chorus of Evolution? Using that as a song title.” Krillin chuckles a bit at that. “Second of all, WHO and… WHAT are you? Like, what ACTUALLY are you? And why are you here, HERE here, in this place? HOW are you here?”

https://youtu.be/tAS4DEwgKH8?si=r902obY7LkOyYr82

The gestalt being looks at you with what almost seems like contempt.

‘{WE ARE HULUD-RAH}’

‘{WE ARE MORE}’

‘{WE THRIVE WHERE OTHERS CANNOT}’

More of the gaseous substance leaks from the body, contained within the turtle shells. This time though, you get… psychic images accompanied with the multitude’s words.

‘{WE ARE FROM THE DEEP}’

You see visions of the... deep sea? Maybe some geothermal vents? No, something even deeper…

‘{WE ARE FROM THE BEYOND}’

You get visions of a void between the stars.

‘{WE AWAKENED TO GROW}’

You get a vision of many, many of the individual worms slowly starting to congregate together.

‘{WE AWAKENED TO THE FOLLY OF MAN}’

You get a vision of the worms being drawn to… here. To burning waste. To decrepit mines.

‘{WE WILL PERFECT THIS WORLD}’

You get a vision of the worms spreading from the burning pit, spreading like puss from an infected wound.

‘{WE WILL CORRECT THE MISTAKES}’

You get a vision of the world… being covered by them.

‘{WE ARE EVOLUTION}’

You get a vision of a much more massive gestalt creature, one that has vague humanoid and worm-like features.

‘{WE HATE YOU}’

No vision this time. Only the feeling of… anger. Raw, visceral anger. Rage.

You and Krillin look at one another, with it clear that he saw the same things you did. “…Heeeey Leo!” you speak up, turning towards the Mothman. “You got, uh, any idea on how to deal with this thing?”

‘ALL THE SPICY WORMS’ he replies, shaking as he hides on a branch.

“Yes, all of them, how do we deal with-?”

‘-ALL- THE SPICY WORMS’ he emphasizes, gesturing at the ground.

You, Krillin, and Buu all look down. And… you can still sense very faint Ki signatures down there. Shit. This isn’t all of them.

Things went by smoother today, but again sorry for the delay. We're back!

Krillin shakes his head as he remarks, “I’m gonna try to find some place for these ones, don’t want them getting away and meeting up with however many others are left underground. Just let Lapis and Chuu Lee know what’s going on, too.”

“Right.” you sigh out. “So much for this being a simple mission…”

“To be honest there’s one thing that’s still bugging me...” Krillin speaks up. He then remembers who’s in the vicinity and adds, “Er, no offense intended, Leo.” The Mothman lets out a sort of humming, cooing sound in understanding. Krillin continues, “But… are these things acting up now in reaction to us, or is there something else going on with them?”

That’s… an unpleasant thought. “You have anything to suggest it’s not just us? I mean, we did sorta try to drive them away from the coal seam, for obvious reasons.”

Krillin shakes his head. “Not completely, but there’s a gut feeling that there’s something… off about their energy. Anyway, be back in a bit.” He teleports away, leaving you and Buu with the Mothman nearby.

Well, there are more down there, there’s MOGUERA still underground trying to actually accomplish what you set out to do here, with Lapis and Chuu Lee trying to keep watch over it. Maybe you and Buu can draw them out directly? Or at least like… identify where they’re trying to congregate. Or you could just wait for a bit, Krillin shouldn’t need too long to handle those things.

“Buu ready! Rude, stinky worms not gonna get last laugh!” he declares as he puffs up his chest.

“All right! Let’s get going!” You pump your fist in the air and head on down towards the mine once more. As you do, though, you do think to check in with Trip for just a brief moment, mostly to let her know about what’s going down here and how it at least seems to be an issue that’s been lurking on Earth for a while, even if it might not exactly be from here. She appreciates the head’s up, and promises to look into it and share any insights she comes across. You will also wait for Krillin to come back to actually make any substantial decision, but you also know you need to seek these out sooner rather than later. He can sense where you are, and you can get out of there quick if things get out of hand.

And so you head down, down into the abandoned mine, once more with a little Ki ball illuminating the area around you. It takes a few minutes to get deep enough to sense anything, even with the pair of you moving quickly, though eventually you end up at a substantially warmer and more rancid area, the mines turning more cavernous, parts of it collapsed, but also… strangely dug through. You get to a place where the air is almost visibly thick from both the shimmering heat and rancid fumes only barely kept at bay with your mask, and where you can feel a vast many minuscule Ki signatures.

But more importantly, they KNOW you’re here. Be it through whatever psychic connection they had with the gestalt you just fought or some other means, they KNOW and they HATE that you’re here. But they’re moving away from you, moving in many different directions with surprising speed for things so small, making properly sense where each and every one of them are. It’s like trying to sense out a whole colony of ants or bees trying to purposefully disorient you. Even with that, though, you can very vaguely sense a number of them moving in a specific direction, further down and giving off an energy you… very, very vaguely feel as familiar.

>A. Call them out, you’re not here to play games with them, and they have to know that by now
>B. Maybe Buu can start collecting some of them as you head deeper? It’ll at least keep them from being added to this other gestalt they’re trying to make

You and Buu keep heading forward, trying to locate where exactly the things are all going, while also trying to discern what exactly is “off” about these things’ collective Ki signatures. The subtle bit of wrongness that Krillin picked up on, and that you can get a more clear glimpse of now that you’re aware of it. But along the way, you try to talk with Buu a bit more and teach him some things!

“So Buu, we should be getting to the heart of this little complication, but I’ve got a question: do you know why we’re doing this?”

“‘Cause tinky worms are bad guys?” Buu responds.

“Well, that’s sort of it, but there’s more to it than just that. This place is at risk because of them currently, but it’s been in danger before then. People sometimes need to dig up certain resources to live better lives, but because of that some can be careless with how they try to dig them up. And sometimes accidents happen because of how people have been digging them up. We’re here first and foremost to try and fix that mistake. Not everyone can change harmful things into delicious candy, after all.” you explain to the little guy.

“Ohhhh, that right.” Buu remarks with a nod.

“It would be AWFULLY CONVENIENT if there were something that could HELP THEM GET RID OF THE PROBLEMS by just EATING THE PROBLEMS AWAY.” you add, making sure the worms can hear you. “I’m sure they would REALLY APPRECIATE IT if that were the case.”

Buu chuckles. “You being funny, Gohan.”

“Yes.” you admit. “But as I remember a certain Superhero team claiming, ‘looting and polluting is not the way’ and ‘saving our planet is the thing to do.’”

Buu tilts his head at you in mild confusion. “Dunno who those are.”

“Look, the thing you need to take away from this, Buu, is that everyone can contribute in keeping things from getting this bad in their own way. Pantea and Bulma helped us with the MOGUERA units, Lapis and Chuu Lee are keeping watch on the machines, we even got Leo the Mothman helping, and we just met him today. Maybe A CERTAIN MANY SOMEONES could see that the power is theirs, too, in being able to help out and not be a bunch of STINKY JERKS.” Okay maybe you’re laying it on a little thick. Buu’s still finding it funny though.

There’s a brief rumble as more and more of them move, quicker than before… though they repeat something psychically towards you.

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

That’s… maybe a good sign!

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

Okay probably less good…

‘Uh. Gohan?’ Krillin contacts you hesitantly.

That’s definitely less good. ‘Something the matter, Krillmeister?’

‘Yeah looks like these things are a bit more tricky than I thought. Tried to get them into a container that your uncle helped prep a while back and they’ve… eaten it, I think. Gonna be delayed a bit.’

You blink. ‘Prepared how, and eaten it how?’

‘Some Magic enchantments and reinforced materials. And it’s currently a pile of sludge, while the thing’s loose again. You and Buu okay over there?’

‘Yeah! Yeah we’re fine.’ That’s technically true. ‘Do YOU need help?’

‘Nah I got this, should have it handled soon, and someone else is already on their way with something with a little more oomph. Just gotta- hey! Ah damn it they’re trying to fly away. Just a couple more minutes and I’ll be back, promise, kiddo.’

https://youtu.be/9TzIS71hM50?si=uDOaWkuabSZk_1cm

You’ll hold him to that but you’re kinda concerned that he let you know that while the worms are chanting ‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’ in your mind. Still, you’re close enough to what they’ve been headed towards that you’re able to get very slightly better read on their Ki. You try to obscure yourself near a set of large boulders, motioning for Buu to do the same, pulling the orb of Ki back so it doesn’t give as much light. But even without that, you notice, finally, that while they are the Ki signature most abundant in the area, they’re not ALONE. Something… no, someONE is down here with them.

‘Gohan.’ Trip contacts you. ‘I have something substantial to report on these things.’

Finally some good news! ‘What’d you find?’

‘This thing should be a form of colonial tadpole-like organism that exists beneath the ocean depths. But they have been altered in two ways.’ she begins to explain, sounding rather grim. ‘The former looks to be a remnant of an experiment by a civilization that existed on Earth a long time ago, something that formed a symbiotic relationship with the organism.’

This is not sounding like good news. ‘And the latter?’

‘It has been made aware. These creatures should not be capable of conscious thought as they exist, even with their hybridization. A mind should not exist between them.’

You rub your chin. Yep, definitely not good news. ‘Wait, there are plenty of regular animals that are fairly smart, not to mention a number of monsters and the like that inhabit the Earth. Why’s this hive mind of theirs an anomaly? Especially if it’s a from some kind of hybridized creature with some ancient experiment.’

‘Because this is recent. Too recent to have occurred naturally. I’ve glimpsed into the consciousness of the mind Krillin is facing right now after it directed some of its ire towards “the gods”. It awakened suddenly and recently, the yet with a specific form already in place. Even if it were a creature of brilliance beyond that of a hundred of the brightest minds on Earth put together, it should have the comprehension skills of a toddler. It does not, nor did it ever. And in spite of the claims it makes of evolution, the mind between them only shows a slow level of development. A mind has been implanted within them, for lack of a better term.’

Well… this complicates things substantially. The worms were GIVEN a hive mind. And you suspect whatever is down here with them is responsible.

>A. Wait and watch, try to make it like you don’t know what’s going on just yet, might catch them unawares
>B. Buu, you gotta start grabbing as many of these worms as you can before they add to the gestalt nearby, let’s do this quick

Apologies, got dragged off to a surprise family thing at the last minute, but we're back now:

>>5934431
“All right, Buu? Start grabbing as many of them as you can, can’t let them all gather into this bigger gestalt down here.” you instruct the Majin. “I’m gonna call it out, too.” You bet it’s Fu. Oh this is very, very much some kind of experiment he’s running isn’t it.

“Okay!” He pumps his fist in the air and gets ready.

You stand up straight and start to march forward. “Hulud-Rah! You know I’m here!”

‘{WE DO}’

“The silence is unbecoming of you. Why’s you stop?”

‘{TO GROW}’

‘{GATHER STRENGTH}’

‘{TO SHOW YOU THE CHORUS OF EVOLUTION}’

‘{TO SHOW YOU THE POWER IS OURS}’

You shake your head and comment, “You know, if you have a mind, do you think you might have a soul, too? If you do, you’ll one day end up in the afterlife, like everyone else. Anything you’d like me to tell King Yemma so you won’t be sent straight to hell?”

‘{WHEN YOU REACH THE JUDGE OF SOULS YOURSELF}’

‘{LET HIM KNOW YOU FELL TO A BEING THAT WILL IMPROVE THIS WORLD}’

‘{THE POWER IS OURS}’

“You not improving anything!” Buu declares, flinging his arms out. A pink aura erupts around him, illuminating the cavernous area. Illuminating all the many, many worms headed towards a singular point.

For a brief moment, you catch glimpse of something else in the area. The other Ki signature. And… it’s not Fu. It’s absolutely not Fu. Something tall and lanky in a lab coat, though its head has… horns? Wait does that guy’s lab coat have a popped collar too? The thing disappears before you can properly identify it, the Ki signature it had masked by the multitude of worms.

Still, Buu lets out many, many pink beams that grab hold of the gathering worms and pull them into a massive net, gathering literal tons of the creatures into it, and not letting up. It’s a combination of Magic Materialization and telekinesis, yet it’s surprisingly advanced and intricately woven together. It’s not even really causing any of the worms pain, simply shock and surprise.

Krillin teleports in next to you, giving a thumb’s up. “Job finished, got those things sealed away properly and… woah.” he exhales as he notices the net Buu has with all the gathered worms inside it.

Buu sets it down, with it noticeably shaking the ground as it does. “Buu got ‘em all!”

“Great job! …But, uh, is it just me, or is it getting smaller?” Krillin asks, and… yeah no the pile is very much getting smaller, though it doesn’t look like the Ki signatures are changing at all.

It should be fine. It’s definitely fine. You cross your arms, shaking your head again, commenting, “I guess I can tell King Yemma you lot were deceived into this belief, then. If nothing else, I’ll try to find the one responsible for filling you all with this false sense of superiority and bring them to justice.”

‘{WE HAVE NOT BEEN DECIEVED}’

‘{OUR POWER IS SELF-EVIDENT}’

‘{WE WILL CONTINUE TO GROW}’

‘{WE WILL CONTINUE TO EVOLVE}’

The blob of worms have shifted into a… more humanoid shape that’s trying to break out of the net Buu’s trapped them in. And they’ve certainly been able to condense their energy into a more coherent form. However, the Majin isn’t letting them out that easily. He tosses up the net and hits it with a pink beam from his antenna, and… down slams a very large cube, easily a few dozen meters tall, wide, and deep, if not moreso.

“Uh… what did you just do, Buu?” Krillin asks.

“Buu put them in time-out box.” he proclaims with a wide grin.

‘{WHAT HAVE YOU DONE}’

‘{WHAT HAVE YOU DONE}’

‘{WHAT HAVE YOU DONE}’

‘{WHAT HAVE YOU DONE}’

You approach the cube, tapping your fist against it. It’s a kind of black metal, dense and- wait… you’ve felt this material before. “…This is Katchin.” you remark.

The Majin nods. “Big stinky worms-man wanted to get out, so they in time-out box.”

Exhaling in relief, you look to Krillin. “I guess they’re sealed up in there. We should get them out of here… and probably eventually see if Peppa’s therapist has any recommendations for people who can handle hive-minds with delusions of grandeur.”

“Chansu?” Krillin recalls. “Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if she could handle them herself. She’s been able to see Baragon and even Nappa before.”

You blink. “Wait really?”

“Oh yeah, regular monthly meetings. Helped Nappa out a lot.” he confirms, then places his arm on Buu’s head, with the Majin picking up the cube. “Anyway, you’re right, we do have to get this out of here. And I think I know a place to keep this safe for the time being. I’ll check in with Lapis first though…”

You nod, and with a declaration of “Kai Kai” you teleport outside again. Krillin’s there a moment later, and with Buu letting the cube down, he informs you that Lapis has agreed to let him bring it to Monster Island for the time being. Looking out, you notice the sun much lower in the sky than it’d been before, and… well, there’s Leo the Mothman nearby. You get the feeling that he’s been waiting for you.

“PIZZA!” he cheers.

“But it’s getting close to snack time. SO. Mess Officer Buu? Need you to head over to Lapis and Chuu Lee and get them snacks. This is a mission of upmost importance. I’m counting on you.”

Buu salutes. “Me understand. Snacks important.” He then flies off.

You however look towards Leo. The Mothman tilts his head at you slightly. “When we first arrived, the people of this town warned us not to upset you. It’s a good thing we listened, but also, I’m glad we got to meet you, Leo.” He lets out a chirping noise that sounds grateful. “I do have a question, though. The things that called themselves Hulud-Rah weren’t naturally able to do that. Someone has tampered with them. Do you have any clues on what this person was?”

‘THE BUGS’

The what. The what? “The, er… bugs?”

‘BIG BUGS’

…You’re getting a very, very bad feeling about this now. “Can you describe them?”

‘MANY BUGS. BIG, GREEN’

Oh you absolutely have a bad feeling about this now. “Okay. Try to stay safe, those guys might still be around…” You move off, trying to sense for any of the ones you suspect. Big green bugmen are a narrow enough descriptor, but you’re not sure you like the implications there…

The other though is very clearly one of the people you suspected. Standing with his arms crossed, and surprisingly a large lab coat on his body, is Melanos, the leader of the Cell Sentai.

Okay! We are back!

>>5936423
You telepathically contact Buu and Lapis and let them know what’s going on, but also that you have A Plan you need their help with. But that requires getting Melanos to talk for a bit. So, here it goes. “I’ll keep this simple then. Are you, and your associates, going to be a problem for us going forward?”

The bugman brings a hand up to his chin. “Hm. It won’t be our intent, but the chances of us coming into conflict are higher than your lot, or in all honesty some of us, would like them to be. Our intent is not to pick fights with any of you for the time being, especially with a number of your group… displaced.” Curiously, the way he says that almost sounds… remorseful? Disapproving, at the very least. “Still, if any of you directly try to stop us, our hands will be forced. Do you understand, Son Gohan?”

Slowly nodding your head, you respond, “I understand clearly. But before you go, I’ve got something for you.”

“I do hope you’ve not failed to notice my guard’s been up the moment you spotted me.” Melanos remarks dryly.

“Obviously.” you confirm. Okay, Buu’s ready. “So… do you wanna see something cool?”

He blinks. “…You know what? I know you’re playing me at this point, but sure. However, you have to do something for me in return.”

…Not liking this. “That being?”

He smirks. “Dodge.”

In an instant, his aura flares up around him, and you’ve only got a brief moment to dodge a kick he aims at your head. He stops himself in midair and turns it into a spin-kick that you back away from. He’s almost ready to follow it up, but that’s when Lapis and Buu teleport in, with Buu firing off a pink beam at Melanos. The lab coat on him suddenly puffs up, and he stops himself. There’s a beat of tension, Lapis on-guard next to you, Buu staring the bugman down.

Melanos moves one of his arms up towards his face, the puffed up lab coat making a soft crunching noise. With a raised eyebrow, he remarks, “Cotton candy.” He then pulls a bit off and tries it. The bugman nods approvingly. “Not bad, little Majin. And good work, Gohan. Stay on your toes.” He gives a quick two-fingered salute, then vanishes.

You let out a sigh of relief. “That was closer than I wanted it to be.”

“I’m more surprised it worked.” Lapis remarks.

You look down at the little Majin. “Buu? Two pizzas. You’ve earned them.” you tell him with pride.

“YEAAAAH!” he cheers, pumping his arms in the air.

Lapis pats him on the head. “I’ll say. Defused that situation before it could go any further south.”

“Should thank Leo too, he’s the one who tipped me off about the ‘big bugs’ and all.” you comment, flying back towards the Mothman.

With him perched in one of the trees, he notes to you, ‘BIG BUGS GONE’

You give him a nod. “Yep. They shouldn’t be bothering anyone here again any time soon. Thank you for all you’ve done, Leo. Anything we can get for you as a token of appreciation? Snacks or something? …What do, er, Mothmen like to eat?”

‘LAMP’ he declares quite quickly, chirping happily. However, there’s a pause in it, and then he clarifies, ‘NON-SPICY LAMP’

You laugh a bit. “I’ll… see if I can get you one.”

“By the way, if you are her kid, you might wanna stop by Monster Island some time soon and visit your mom. Mothra’d probably like to know you’ve been handling yourself decently well.” Lapis adds. He seems to climb a bit further into the tree at that, the chirping more of a murmur now.

As you spot the sun even lower in the sky, you hear your stomach growl and comment, “Man, learning that food beam of yours might come in handy some day… think I could ever learn it, Buu?”

The Majin shrugs. “Buu not know. Buu can just do that.”

“Heh, just a thought. Okay, we’re all well and good here. Let’s head back to Chuu Lee.”

Teleporting back, you get your own meal ready thanks to Mess Officer Buu, steak and rice dish. You also go over what you learned from Melanos, with Chuu Lee clearly thinking over the statement you got out of him.

“I’m not sure I get what their plan is.” she begins, rubbing her chin. “You’d think they would at least be trying to free Gero or something, yet from the sound of things they aren’t even bothered by him in custody.”

“Maybe there’s a longer-term plan going on than we really suspected.” Lapis proposes, finishing a bowl of ramen. “Gero waiting it out in captivity could play into that.”

She shakes her head. “I don’t know… the fact that Melanos acknowledged we might come into conflict with one another, yet that not being their overall goal, doesn’t fit with that. What even was the point of this ‘Hulud-Rah’ thing if they’re willing to part with it so quickly?”

“Can’t even begin to guess at this point.” Lapis shrugs, then looks over to you. “What’s your read on the situation, Gohan? Melanos did try to attack you just now, but left the moment he got his coat candy’d.”

>A. I think he’s at least honest about his group’s intentions, but it just raises further questions about what to do if we do end up in conflict
>B. Weird as it might sound, I don’t think he was aiming to seriously damage me. Moreso… testing me, I guess?

“Weird as it might sound, I don’t think he was aiming to seriously damage me. Moreso just… test me, in a way.” you reply after chowing down on some rice. “He gave clear warning to dodge, and while he wasn’t exactly going easy on me, he telegraphed his attacks enough that I didn’t have to go full throttle just to avoid getting seriously hurt. It’s odd.”

“You make it sound almost like he wanted to get a brief sparring match in with you.” Chuu Lee remarks.

“He just might have. Which is what puts that sense of doubt in my mind on just what we can discern about their motives beyond the few things we’ve seen.” You finish off the rice before continuing, “So let’s take it from the top. They somehow managed to get a bunch of extremophile hybrid worm creatures to develop a sort of hive mind between them. What could they get out of that?

Lapis crosses his arms and thinks over the question. “Some kind of self-replenishing minions of sorts that are smart enough to strategize with ‘em, but still able to listen to ‘em?” he suggests.

“Maybe… but maybe the various Cells are sorta like, amalgamated beings themselves, maybe they’re trying to figure out how to freely combine or coordinate together better?” you suppose. “Perhaps even be able to split apart and come back together? Especially if they don’t lose mental faculties with that…”

“Well, that’s not a comforting thought.” Chuu Lee says with a frown. “Well, what else can we discern from them?”

You chew on a bite of steak and think through that question. “I… guess there was someone with Melanos for a time? Maybe they aren’t worried about Gero because they have someone with them. Some other evil genius, like Raichi or that Myuu guy mom’s group faced out in space, or…” You snap your fingers. “Wait! That Dr. Wheelo guy! Mom told me about him before, how he tried to take control of Piccolo and was ble to make some kind of bio-android creatures enhanced with Magic! And he had a lab up north… you don’t think it might be him, do you?”

“Personally, I doubt it.” Lapis remarks. “Wheelo’s been dealt with already, and there isn’t much to go on to really connect him to them. That said, it’s still worth checking up there again, just in case someone’s moved in to try and make it their base of operations.”

“Hmm… then I guess last thing we should consider is bringing someone like Pantea or mom or someone along while like, having Trip look at them once we get the chance. A bit of a look at the science behind the hivemind alongside the spiritual description of it. Who knows what creepy elder evils were used in its creation? And there’s the matter of how they intend to use it, especially if they could somehow get it to spread across the Earth like Leo was worried about.” You tap your chin as you add, “Maybe get the Kais involved, one or two or maybe all of ‘em…”

“We shouldn’t over-complicate it.” Lapis reminds you. “If we just throw all we can at the problem and hope something sticks, we might plan into their hands. At the same time, a more thorough analysis is probably going to help.”

>A. Well, that’s something that we can handle later. How’s MOGUERA’s work going?
>B. Say Buu, do you have any input you’d like to add? Things you think we should do?
>C. Check in with Krillin, see where they’re being stored away for now

“It’s not like we’re gonna pull out ALL the stops every time a hint of some deeper worry is there, but we know from experience that threats like these might have something else waiting for us, backup plans and whatever. Wouldn’t hurt to have the Kais give their opinions on something like this, y’know?”

Lapis nods. “A fair assessment. Just a word of precaution, though, you can spread some of the burden among the rest of us. I know you want all the options to get things settled before they can go from bad to worse on the table as soon as possible, but don’t try to start shouldering too much of these things.”

“Mm.” you mumble in slight agreement as you finish up the steak and rice. “Well, we can put it off until later. How’s MOGUERA’s work coming along?”

“Even with the distractions, we’ve made some good progress.” Lapis replies with a smile. “Still got a few more hours to go until it’s done, I’d say, but things have gone by without any real hitches.”

“Nice. Anything you might need help with?” you ask as you start to put the dishes away.

“I think we might need a few areas scouted out again, but shouldn’t take much time.” Lapis turns to Chuu Lee. “Though we could take a shift on that task.”

“We could. Let’s check with Krillin when he gets back.” she confirms.

You decide to check in with him directly, asking him telepathically, ‘Hey, Krillmeister, you good? The Hulud-Rah stored away safe somewhere?’

‘Yep! Just settled them in somewhere safe. And… there we go! Okay, back in just a moment.’ And after a beat, Krillin teleports back… carrying two large, flat boxes, one in each hand. “Somebody wanted pizza?”

“PIZZA!” Buu cheers, pumping his arms in the air. “Pizza! Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!” Buu happily takes one of the boxes, opening it up and getting the large cheesy pie… and fits the whole thing in his mouth at once. “Mmmm!”

You chuckle as you watch him chow down, but then a thought crosses your mind. “You know… if this ‘Chorus of Evolution’ that the worms mentioned actually means anything, maybe that’s the key. Probably something to do with some mix of demon realm science and magic and… I dunno, alchemy or something. Bet that means they’re still under Towa’s employ for this. Eh, still makes for some good song lyrics, I think.”

So, Krillin is back, and there’s still some more work MOGUERA needs to do. Do you wanna keep up scouting the area with someone, or stay here and watch over the mech as it does its job? It doesn’t feel like there’s much else out there that’s an immediate threat, or even some kind of lurking one, but couldn’t hurt to look over the place some more. Then again, you’ve had plenty of time with that, and you should try meditating with the Muramasa again some time soon.

“Well guys, I figure I should take a shift with MOGUERA and watch over the thing as it does its job. If there’s anything that comes up with it, I’ll let you guys know.” you state. “Also gonna try to work on the Muramasa a bit, still kinda attempting to purify it and everything.”

“I’ll stay with you then.” Chuu Lee says as she looks in the direction of the the glowing crater. “My Ki sensing skills are the best out of the group, and I can keep track of the energy it’s giving off.”

“Thanks!” you tell her with a smile.

“Well Lapis, you ready to head off?” Krillin questions.

“Sure! Be back soon. Gohan, Buu, counting on you two to keep her safe.” Lapis says to the both of you, giving Chuu Lee a bit of a smirk.

“I’m sorry, who here got to claim the title of world champ again?” she retorts with a faux-annoyed pout.

“Former world champ.” he corrects, then walks a bit closer and kisses her on the cheek. “Still allowed to worry about you.”

She smiles and nudges his arm. “Stay safe yourself out there, Lapis.”

The pair of Lapis and Krillin head off, while you and Chuu Lee work to monitor MOGUERA’s progress. At this rate, you actually might be done by the time mom and Peppa are back. “Man, you weren’t kidding, at this rate it’s only got a few more hours left until it’s all clear.”

“Had to guide it pretty well, but it’s handled the serious hotspots. The tricky part is getting supports in place when the burning fuel is cleared out.” Chuu Lee explains. “You don’t want THAT getting any bigger.” she points her thumb at the still-glowing crater.

“Have there been any close calls?” you ask, looking in the direction of it as well. Doesn’t LOOK any bigger, but best to be sure…

She shakes her head. “Nah, we’ve been plenty careful. In fact, there’s a major pocket up ahead. Gohan, check your Scouter, see if you can spot anything it needs to be careful of.”

You do just that, and you see from the feed it’s giving your Scouter that there’s a weaker patch of earth above the smoldering seam, concentrated the most up towards the back of it that seems closer to the pit. “Looks like we’ve gotta support that part back there, else it’ll risk collapse.”

“Right, so now let it work on that.” she says with a smile.

MOGUERA actually heads to that back part first, putting in some reinforced support structures behind it as it starts to clear away the seam of coal. Once that’s set up, it works to actually split the seam from the larger connected whole, then extinguishes the heat bit by bit. After a few minutes, it’s done. “Wow, this does work fast.”

She gives a wide grin. “Yep! So, how about that sword?”

You hold forth the Muramasa and place it down in front of you, with you trying to harmonize your Ki with it. The sword still gives off a hostile aura… and it doesn’t look like it’s letting up. For the next hour and a half, you keep working with it, Chuu Lee observing and sensing how the energy flows through it. And… still nothing, no real progress with it, it’s keeping itself closed off from you tight. Not even Chuu Lee can get a read on how to harmonize with it. At the same time though, you both keep watching MOGUERA’s movements through the earth, guiding it and keeping up the work of clearing out the burning coal.

That’s when you reach the deepest parts of the coal seams. MOGUERA registers some unusual readings, and as you approach it gives a visual on it. It’s… a crystal? A brilliant blue crystal, with energy readings unlike what the thing’s prepared for.

>A. We should get that up ASAP, it looks important
>B. Maybe you should send these readings to Bulma? She might have an idea

“Mhmm… let’s see if there’s anything around it, protections or a guardian or even some kind of like, placard nearby. Better safe than sorry.” You make sure MOGUERA is recording and sending back to Bulma as much information as possible, while also keeping an eye out for something, anything off about the crystal or the immediate area around it.

The good news, this does seem to be some kind of natural formation, more or less. But the rock formations it’s a part of are not natural to the surrounding region. In fact they look like they’ve been dug up from a much deeper layer in the Earth. Not merely pushed up through lava flows or the like, but intentionally pulled up from who knows how deep in the ground. You also notice a bit of a glitch in MOGUERA’s systems as it gets closer. There’s nothing directly affecting it, but for some reason there are runtime errors that cause minor system resets for its scanning equipment.

Far, far more concerning is when Bulma gets back to you guys. “The properties here are… almost impossible.” she begins. “This thing is giving off gravitational waves, and the structure, while crystalline now, is slightly unstable in low pressure environments. It’ll eventually ‘melt’ into a fluid state. It… hrmn.” You and Chuu Lee hear her start to rummage through some things. “Here we go. These… might actually be a form of time crystal.”

You and Chuu Lee look at one another in surprise, with her being the first to ask, “I’m not exactly a scientist, but I can figure that’s not something that’s supposed to be here.”

“It’s not. If you can remove it safely, I’d like you to bring it to Capsule Corp, soon.” she requests. “We might be in possession of some similar crystals soon, if what I’ve heard from Izzy’s group is correct.”

“All right, we’ll get it out ASAP, but… how exactly do you figure it’s a ‘time crystal’ exactly? And what similar crystals are we talking about here?” You recall vaguely what she was planning to do, but you kinda hope she didn’t encounter any weirdness like you have today. At least, none weirder than booze-stealing merfolk.

Oh who are you kidding, it’s absolutely been weirder.

“Izumi’s group have recovered a substantial amount of ‘Dreamstone’, apparently. Something she’s gathered for Melchior to help with. Something related to trying to narrow down where… well, everyone’s been displaced to.” Bulma answers. “Though the stones she’s recovered are more of a deep crimson color, this one’s an almost dark, iridescent electric blue… and it reminds me of some of the stuff Trunks and Bra mentioned about their Time Machines. That it’s giving off gravitational waves and is messing with MOGUERA’s chronometers makes me think it’s the real deal.”

“Then… is this something the Time Patrol’s gonna be interested in?” you question. “Because weird time crystals sound like something they’d not want people messing with.”

“Possibly. We should still get it out of there rather than leave it to be found by a certain smug blue know-it-all demon woman.” Bluma responds.

“Good point.” Chuu Lee agrees. “Well, let’s get this out of here.”

You and Chuu Lee guide the mech towards the crystal, making sure to keep the runtimes in check as it approaches. Chuu Lee notices that there’s potentially something causing this, and has MOGUERA dig around the crystal first rather than try to get to it directly. There you both notice a smaller, stranger, oily substance connected to the crystal. Carefully removing it, the substance leaks away into the ground, and the crystal stops giving off the waves of energy.

Finally, MOGUERA takes the crystal and brings it back up to the surface, and you notice that it’s actually a bit smaller than you expected, large enough to just fit in your palm. Chuu Lee confirms she can’t really sense as strong a Magical energy coming off it, though there’s still something there, just more… dormant, so to speak. Still, good thing this hasn’t caused any further problems. Now to get it to Bulma…

You and Chuu Lee approach the crystal, checking it over to make absolute sure it’s not letting off any residual energies. Thankfully not, though you do feel a soft rumble from the Muramasa as you approach. Clearly it seems to know there’s something there. Should be careful about that. Well, in any case, gotta get it over to Bulma.

Tell Buu to help and listen to Chuu Lee. Not that he needs a handler exactly, but we want him used to working with their people too. And other people in turn knowing how work with him.

>D. Stay behind and analyse energy of the area further, especially in regards to that fluid. If the crystal suddenly got weaker, did it need that fluid? Did the fluid change the power, did it itself have power, or did it connect the crystal to something else powerful?

Sensing out anything should be a little easier without others ki and the crystal itself being around.

“Teach, you wanna do the honors?” you ask Chuu Lee.

“Sure.” she responds as she takes the crystal, flipping it in the air and catching it.

“And… think you can take Buu with you for a bit?” The little Majin pokes his head up, and you continue, “Would be good to kinda get him in more of a habit of helping others out, you know?”

She looks to Buu and asks, “What do you say lil’ guy, wanna come with and help out for a bit?”

“Hmmmm… okay!” Buu replies cheerfully, marching on over to Chuu Lee.

They teleport away, and as they do, you look down at the Muramasa. It seems to calm a bit. Okay, it definitely noticed the time crystal somehow, gotta keep that in mind. You also try to sense out for anything in the area, anything at all that might be out of the ordinary. There was some kind of fluid attached to it, possibly activating it or powering it or… something…?

https://youtu.be/CREMM3Zu1Ks?si=WMHvbFfZocCbKHMc

Well, regardless, there’s… actually nothing else you can sense. In fact, it’s surprisingly… peaceful, with some of the stars poking out in the sky now. You can sense Lapis and Krillin, who are on their way back, though still scouting the area out as they fly over. You can sense the few animals around and Leo the Mothman, with Leo having approached the crater again. You can sense the remaining civilians nearby, minding their own business. It’s… calm, a genuine calm.

When Krillin and Lapis return, they report back that they’ve found a few straggler worms, but they’ve been taken care of. No signs of any of the other members of the Cell Sentai. They get back to work having MOGUERA close up some of the last few burning coal veins and gas pockets, and with Chuu Lee and Buu returning, you watch as the glow in the distance starts to fade.

“I think I’ve got something to help this along.” Chuu Lee states. “Something to cut off some of the air still feeding the fire down there, using Wind Magic.”

“Oh I gotta see how that works… oh, hey, first let’s make this a team effort!” you suggest with a pump of your fist into the air. “One last thing to cap it all off. What do you all say?” Telepathically, you ask Leo, ‘Hey, we’re gonna try to turn off the “Spicy Lamp” in a bit, anything you need from us?’

The response is simple, ‘GOOD LUCK’

You smile, and see Lapis and Krillin standing with you and Chuu Lee. “Sounds like an idea. What’ve you got planned?” Lapis questions.

“I’ll be able to cut off some of the fuel, and also draw out most of the still-burning fires in the pit.” she explains.

“Hmm… then I could maybe keep them from reigniting, I think.” Krillin adds. “Just gotta close it up.”

“I’ve got something I can put in to help control the temperatures.” Lapis confidently remarks. “Gohan, what about you?”

“Hey, we closed up most of the stuff feeding it underground, and if I can mirror what Teach’s about to do, maybe we can get it done quicker. Besides, I’ve gotta learn some other Magical skills beyond the ones I have currently.” you comment.

“Not a bad idea. Okay Gohan, this is what I’ve got…” Backing up a bit, her energy spikes up as she starts to focus Wind Magic in her arms, and as she raises her left hand up, you see the air around her swirl upwards. And then the pull of the air begins to accelerate, yet she brings her right arm back, and the air flow you were feeling halts suddenly. However, there’s still more moving around her, upward, yet with a slight shimmer around her. It’s almost like she’s in a wind tunnel that she made for herself. With a sudden thrust of her right arm upward, the shimmer stops, and you watch what looks a pillar of spiraling energy shoots up into the sky, continuing off higher and higher, even causing the clouds above to spiral with it for a moment. Chuu Lee smirks. “I call this, the Shinku Shotenken. Creating a vacuum using Wind Magic, followed by the proper Shotenken, to amplify its effect. It’s actually capable of pulling in stray Ki blasts and the like for added power, too. It takes a bit longer to properly get done, but for something like this? It’s perfect.”

You grin wide. “Oh that’s cool! And sounds very useful. Lemme give it a try!” You mirror her movements, and while it takes a bit to get used to, you eventually are able to utilize the Wind Magic well enough to create a vacuum pocket with it. All that you need now is the uppercut follow-through, which you pull off without a hitch! “Shinku! SHOTENKEN!” you declare triumphantly.

She claps her hands together. “Perfect! Okay, gas masks on, boys! Let’s wrap this up!”

You and Chuu Lee dash over to the burning pit, gas masks affixed on your faces. Both of you start up the vacuum effect, spreading out the start of the wind tunnel across the crater. Lapis then works with Krillin, with the latter creating a large turtle shell again, and the former empowering it with a shadowy energy that permeates through the shell. Once you and Chuu Lee have vacuumed up enough of the pit’s fuel, you signal the pair to slam it down over the pit.

“DOUBLE!” you begin.

“SHINKU!” Chuu Lee adds.

“SHO!”

”TEN!”

”KEEEEEN!”

The pair of swirling winds draw up the fuel and manage to ignite it as the Shotenkens rocket it into the air. A streak of light fills the sky, flying off towards the stars. It fades, bringing a calmness to the area, with the massive pit no longer glowing. Job’s done.

Flying away from the crater, you’re able to get the mask off and breathe in some fresh air. “Well, we should get MOGUERA back to Capsule Corp. And honestly, I should get home soon. Groucho’s gonna want dinner, and mom and sis should probably be back soon-ish.”

“Sounds like a plan. Thanks for this, Gohan.” Lapis tells you with a smile. “Tommy’s gonna be thrilled when he hears about this.”

You chuckle softly. “No doubt about that. I might stop by some time soon, hang out with ‘em. Until then though.”

“Buu wanna see ‘em again too! Bye-bye for now!” the little Majin adds, waving to him and Chuu Lee as they nod, then teleport away.

Gathering up the mech, you, Buu, and Krillin head back to Capsule Corp, leaving the mech outside as you enter the building. A few Capsule Corp. employees head outside to check it over, though you see Bulma on the balcony overlooking it. Krillin waves to her and floats up, with you and Buu following.

https://youtu.be/CtIbp1lUpec?si=M6bOZSUn8LfaFmSl

“You know, for something captured from a bunch of poachers, it’s worked exceptionally well. Looks like all the stuff you guys did to improve it were well worth it.” he compliments.

Bulma sips some coffee and smiles. “Glad to hear then. Still, finding a time crystal of all things there was a surprise.”

You rub your chin. “So you really think it’s that? Also you mentioned Dreamstone…”

“Yeah, Izzy’s group found a whole bunch of the stuff. From the initial analysis I’ve given samples of both, they’re actually related material, though with slightly different properties and potency.” she begins to explain. “That fluid you mentioned, it might have been part of the crystal itself. At least, some of it might have been.”

“Eh? How’s that work?” Krillin asks, scratching his head.

“It’s likely that whatever brought it up from the mantle, or however deep it actually was, managed to activate the energies inside the crystal for a time, turning it from its solid to electro-fluid state. There’s a small amount of damage to the crystal’s exterior where I assume it was in contact to the fluid. More properly, it was slowly melting out from there.” She sips from her coffee again. “There was still likely something attached to it for a time, though when you guys got to it, it had left the crystal.”

“What? Why?” Krillin questions. “If it went through the trouble of digging it up from deep in the Earth, why stop where it did?”

“Not sure, not yet. At the very least I don’t think it’s still around, but… that’s a whole other issue, isn’t it?” she asks rhetorically. “I’ll keep up research into it. Hopefully I’ll have some answers for whenever the Time Patrol show up.”

“Gotcha. Okay, best of luck, Bulma!” You float away, Buu on your back, then picture your home in your head, especially in relation to where you are now. Aaaand got it! “Kai Kai.”

Teleporting away, you reach home sweet home. Groucho, waiting for you outside, perks his head up, and then runs over to you, pouncing at you and licking your face. “Rooww!”

“Hey, hey, easy boy!” you call to the tiger, laughing. “Buu, head on inside and get his bowl, will ya? I think the big guy’s hungry.”

“Okay!” he cheers, marching off.

You pet Groucho to get him to calm down a bit, the tiger walking with you back towards the house. He does look around, expecting someone… and you think you know who. “Mom and sis should be back soon, and… dad, we’ll find him again, don’t worry.” you reassure the tiger. Groucho nuzzles your hand regardless.

After you and Buu get him fed, you get some homework and finally gaming done, and finally feel mom and sis arrive a couple hours later… well into 3 in the morning, you notice on the clock. They look… exhausted. “Hey son…” your mother greets, sorta shuffling towards the kitchen. Peppa meanwhile collapses onto one of the couches, letting out a soft groan.

“...You guys okay?” you ask hesitantly.

Peppa turns her head to face you. “Define ‘okay’.”

“I have a substantial amount of good news, and I have quite a lot of bad news.” Maple says as she gets some tea going. “I’ll start with the good…”

And so, they catch you up on what they’ve been through recently… and oh boy is it a lot. A whole rogue planet and several moons full of robot people from another universe, one that suffered a cataclysm from star beasts, one divided into some kind of civil war before the displacement happened, one that thankfully had a positive first contact with mom and sis’s group… though also, one that has antagonistic forces among their peoples’ too, with at least one of them having tried to hatch a plot to nab Namek’s Dragon Balls by impersonating the still-displaced Shin. Additionally, one of them has willingly joined Mugen’s band of fighters, with a captured mad scientist with him. Speaking of, there’s also still the Machine Mutants around, and all this started as an effort to find them a new world to settle on, though that’s now… complicated.

“...so the takeaway is, at least the group we met is still on good terms with us, but now there are others out there that know the full scope of the situation they’re in, and that the Dragon Balls might be the key to getting them back to their universe…” Maple finishes. “Raditz and Irico have delivered their report to the Galactic Patrol, at least.”

“Buu head hurting…” the little Majin complains.

“That makes two of us.” your sister remarks. Peppa then floats up off the couch. “Gonna shower, and sleep for however… I dunno, ten hours or something. Then probably spend the rest of the day with Cocoa.”

Well, she’s gonna be up for a bit. You might as well give her the whole story. But where to start…? Ah, you know! “I made a cool, if gloomy and reclusive new friend. He likes lamps.” you begin. Maple raises an eyebrow. “His name’s Leo, and Mothra’s son.” Maple seems to understand that better, giving a nod. “Though he’s also sorta this unusual… mothman guy? Seems to have a form of telepathy and foresight or something. He’s been in the area for a long time, and knew some of the things going on there. Which turn out to be… a lot.”

You go over the initial, relatively normal start to the events of the day, then meeting the mothman, and heading into the abandoned mine. Then, the extremophile worms given a hivemind, calling themselves Hulud-Rah, thinking themselves to herald the chorus of evolution (still a good song title) and such, able to form together into larger entities, though you and Krillin managed to capture them all. To your surprise, Maple has a weird look on her face as you relate this, like how you’re explaining this is disconcertingly familiar to her. You figure it’s something about the Metal Beasts she mentioned earlier. What isn’t familiar is when you bring up who was at least partially responsible for this mess: Melanos, and likely the rest of the Cell Sentai, and potentially someone else out there.

“I do think I’d like to have a talk with King Yemma about this Hulud-Rah thing, at least to make the paperwork he has to do easier, but it’s actually gotten me thinking.” You sit up a bit, telling Maple, “Even if Towa’s been linked to a lot of what we’ve had to deal with, it’s not her exclusively. That the ‘bot folks you met today had dealings with Destron Gas of some sort means there’s still stuff out there that can cause problems all on their own, ones that could at least have some kind of proactive group investigating stuff like that and trying to deal with it before it gets bad. Like some kind of Paranormal Private Investigators or… maybe ‘Spirit Detectives’ or the like. You think that might be a good idea, mom?”

She smiles proudly at you. “I do, actually. You’re right, Towa can’t be behind everything, and given all we know now, trying to have a group ready and willing to take on oddities like this could do a lot to help everyone in the long run. Who knows what the Cell Sentai or someone like Babidi or some rogue Machine Mutants or even some different, ancient sealed threat recently awakening might be up to. Of course, it’ll actually take convincing him to get it to happen, and I think it’ll still need a bit more training to get it started, but I’ll support you if you want to go through with it, Gohan.”

You grin wide. “Thanks, mom. I’ll be sure to do my best”

With the intent of the this write-in, it's a slip of the tongue that spills some details his family would latch onto, which I thought would make for a funny conversation. The wording was chosen deliberaely, with the word "cute" cut-off and replaced by the word cool, which is an attempt by Gohan to hide his newfound crush on Leo.
There was also a bit about Leo's hugs being the fluffiest that was left out.
I also wanted to ask Maple and Peppa about the new friend they made. It did get voted against, but it also got support.
>>

It's obvious what you meant but Gohan has been consistently written as straight
>>
>>5942174
From what I've read, Gohan's been written as an Ace AMAB Egg

I don't think we should be completely bound by that, I thought Leo was cute even if we are straight

>>5942292

Why?
>>
>>5942430
Gohan doesn't seem to have an interest in anything sexual. There hasn't been any times where his thoughts veered in that direction, never snuck any glances, or been antsy about his room being cleaned. It's a bit disconnected from the cishet teenage male experience.

And on the Egg thing, Gohan's speech and mannerisms resemble that of a young lady's. Could be Maple, Peppa, Chuu Lee, and Pantea being a big influence on Gohan being coded like that, though Gohan's norms being held to womens' standards could justify being a girl as much as it could excuse. There are also times Gohan is envious of how Peppa can just do things he can't and get more friends than him living the way she does, he's really centered on what Maple's opinion of him is to where Gohan goes into a rut over garnering his role model's disproval to a suicidal degree and martyrs himself for redemption in her eyes.

Apologies again for the delay, some more problems at work, but we're back

>>5942108
The following day, there’s a meeting at the Lookout with mom trying to get everyone up to speed on what’s been going on. Most of it you heard earlier, this is just giving more detail. What you weren’t expecting were the results of Izzy’s expedition. The sunken Nemurian ruins not only ended up containing living, self-proclaimed royalty, but a Nemurian mage as well, in addition to the twisted fragment of a broken eldritch nightmare beast. Much worse though, Majin Ozotto’s on the move, having successfully stolen a Hakkero from Z’S with the help of… Fu.

The more positive note, Izzy’s mission was very fruitful in acquiring the Dreamstone needed for something pretty substantial: locating where your displaced allies might be. There is, however, a bit of a catch to it, in that you might need to prioritize one of them over the others. Additionally, there’s now the added wrinkle of the displaced robot planet and its moons, and… given that there’s likely some out there already looking for the Dragon Balls, learning about Dreamstone could cause a whole different set of problems.

And you, meanwhile…

While most of the adults talk about what to do next, you’ve gone off to talk with Trip, and soon enough King Yemma himself, about this idea you’ve had recently. The giant ogre leans forward in his chair as he looks down at the pair of you, stroking his beard. “Hmm… a ‘Spirit Detective’ of a sort. An interesting proposal. We’ve had temporary positions similar to this, but a more regular, dedicated role? That’ll be a first.”

“I do believe it is the right call to make.” Trip states. “Acting as someone who can investigate, identify, and proactively attempt to handle certain problems like the one that Gohan came across recently.”

King Yemma nods. “Well my boy, we can work with this idea, though I must point out that it will take some time to set up the proper channels.”

You give him a respectful bow. “I do understand that, sir. What do you recommend first, to help get this started?”

“Well, we’d need to get you started on the kinds of more common problems you’d be facing.” King Yemma begins, pulling something out of his desk. “And also generalized cases dealing with peculiar happenstance involving the souls of the living, disruptive incursions to the afterlife, and the grey area between that.” He presents a massive book, larger than even his ledger, and places it down on his desk with a THUD that shakes the area slightly. “I can also think of something relatively recent that can serve as a sample for you.”

Your eyes light up a bit. “You can?”

The giant ogre presents a picture to you and Trip. It… looks like some kind of hybrid sea creature, like a squid connected to a starfish or something. “This passed by not too long ago. An artificial creation, yet one that clearly possessed souls. However, the souls were bound together as one unified whole.”

…This thing very vaguely matches the description Izzy gave you of one of the monsters she fought in the depths. “And… something like this is causing problems?”

“More that something like this should be handled with care before it kicks the bucket. The bound souls were unnaturally entangled together, and they had to be separated lest processing them brings in complications.” he explains. “More frequently this happens when a person is possessed by a malicious spirit passes on with the spirit still ‘attached’ so to speak. It’s rare, a haunting like that usually leaves the malicious spirit still around to wander the world, but it does happen. Having some proper exorcism performed in that case will prevent complications from arising, in addition to the general benefit it provides.”

Interesting. Though you guess it makes sense.

>A. Are there any other candidates you have that you might want to bring in for this, sir? I could make some recommendations of my own, if you’d like
>B. How about cases involving the Demon Realm, how does that work with all the soul processing and the like?

Okay, that took a bit longer than I intended, but we are back!

>>5943026
“So would something like Hulud-Rah cause complications like that? Or might there be other issues with it being processed?” you inquire, recalling what exactly you said to the gestalt being.

King Yemma strokes his beard. “From my understanding, the soul present there is one that was forced out of them. It’s not so much that they’re many beings bound together, but rather one being arose among many bodies unnaturally. Ideally one would want that soul to be processed as its whole, rather than processed piece by piece. A fragmented soul takes far, far longer for processing and reincarnation.” he explains. “Ideally, enough of them passing on at once would be enough of a shock to the hivemind that the being itself would pass along at once, but if not… imagine the pins and needles feeling you have when your leg falls asleep and you just start moving it, but it’s your soul and you feel it spread across the realms of the living and the dead.”

You shudder. “Yeesh. Okay, yeah, point taken.” Looking towards the massive book, you then ask him, “Do you have any other candidates in mind, sir? Because I could make a few suggestions of my own, if you’d like to hear them.”

“Oh? Well I did think it might help to have at least four or five to start, each looking over a universal quadrant, but by all means, my boy, let’s hear your suggestions.”

You glance downward, remarking, “Well, the first that comes to mind is Grandpa Bardock, as someone prepped for handling things over on this side, especially some heavy hitters that have to be sent to hell. Even if not as a full member, him and his crew being ready to step in if needed should be a big boon. As for someone among the living, might I suggest the Yardratian, Soba? He’s learned exorcism like I have and probably has something even beyond that, given how he’s dedicated his skills. Plus he’d be able to get to certain places pretty quick, with his Instant Transmission. And…”

Well, who else?

>A. Zarid comes to mind, though his world is kinda a unique case…

>B. How about Tapion or Minotia? They’re already working under the Supreme Kais, but I’m sure at least one of them would be up for helping out with this too.
Given their other responsibilities they may not be a great or possible choice long term. But as far as getting a crew up and running? Great founding members to establish the teamwork.

>C. Maybe someone under Kuriza’s employ, part of the PTO… maybe someone from the Ginyu Force?
Again, wearing two hats isn't ideal. But the PTO is definitely a force we want to have a working relationship with, if only to be informed of what they find. But to do that they need to know what to look for.l and that's why having some on the the is important.

>D. You think Pikkon might be up for something like this? Sure he’d be handling things sorta on this side, but he’s both a skilled fighter and quick thinker, I bet he’d be a good choice
Probably more of those fighters could be useful, but we don't know all of them that well. Pikkon and Bardok would be a good start that to recruit from that crew.

Of course these notes aren't quite how Gohan would say it, so adjust as needed. I think he would get the gist.

If you stretch yourselves too thin, Gohan's going to either break or his performance is going to flag on an aspect of his. This could be spirit stuff, video games, or fighting. Or he just becomes asocial in a bid to have it all and his social links go down the toilet.

“There’s also Pikkon to consider.” you add. “He might be up for something like this. Sure he’d be moreso handling things over on this side, but he’s both a skilled warrior and clever, adaptive, and a quick thinker. I figure a number of other fighters on Grand Kai’s planet could qualify too, but Pikkon’s easily one of the best among them.”

“Hmmm…” King Yemma contemplatively strokes his beard. “Not a bad suggestion. I could set up certain day pass systems for people like him should it be required, much like the ones set up for other worlds. I’ll keep him in mind. Any others, Son Gohan?”

“Uh… let’s see… we’d want someone mobile and capable of handling threats among different worlds, and what comes to mind are the Galactic Patrol, and… oh!” You snap your fingers and grin excitedly. “Someone among Kuriza’s employ in the PTO! Maybe someone among the Ginyu Force? I think it’s something to consider mostly for practicality’s sake, they’ve got more or less the largest empire in the universe and hundreds and hundreds of planets they manage, and incidents like the ones we’d be tasked with might show up on their worlds. If nothing else, them having the tools needed to identify such incidents for what they are, and maybe even handle them before they get out of hand, would work in everyone’s favor.”

He doesn’t quite seem as convinced by it, but does still give a nod. “Hmm… not exactly the group I’d choose to turn to, but they have been trying to put a new spin on how they run things down there. I can consider such a thing. You raise a good point of them at least being able to recognize problems like that before they get worse.”

“I’ve saved the best for last. The two Konatsian warriors working under the Supreme Kais, the brothers Tapion and Minotia. Given their duties it might not be something they can do long-term, but as part of the founding team? They’d do wonders, and help set an example of the kinds of teamwork needed for such a group going forward. So, that’s the last major pick I have.” The idea of Zarid joining up crosses your mind, but you’re not sure how that’d work with how his Earth factors into this.

“I can accept that. There’ll be a vetting process going forward, and I’d like you to go through this.” King Yemma pats the massive tome again. “To make sure you really know what you’re getting into. Once you’re ready, though, I think I can make this ‘Spirit Detective’ position official.” He grins widely. “I look forward to that, Son Gohan.”

You bow again. “Thank you, King Yemma. I’ll do my best.”

You and Buu take some time to visit Tommy finally, with you arriving at Lapis and Chuu Lee’s place, with a little something you think he’d appreciate. Tactile playing cards! When you get there, you meet Chuu Lee at the home, with Lapis having gone out for Ranger duties. It sounds like they’d explained most of what happened there, but you decide to add in some of your own bits too.

“...And that’s when Buu and I found the big, big host of worms all moving in one direction.” you add, glancing at your cards again. “Hmm… got any Fives?”

Tommy checks over his cards with his hands, then shakes his head. “Nope, Go Fish! But wow, didn’t know all those worms were lurking under the town.”

You pull up a card… Joker. That’s three Jokers. Hey, one more and you’re up three points! “That’s the thing, they likely weren’t always there. Once we arrived, we noticed some guy with horns and a lab coat, but also what looked like some kind of… popped collar?”

Tommy laughs at that. “Ahaha, a what?”

“For real! Collar, popped up like he thought it was cool or something. I don’t know if it was part of the lab coat or something he had underneath it, but that’s what it looked like for the brief time he was there.” you confirm.

“That’s silly.” The boy then checks his cards again. “Hmm… do you have any Jokers?”

D’oh. You were so close! “Yeeaaaahhh…” Handing the cards over, with Tommy smiling more upon learning he now has a set of four, you continue. “Still, the worms weren’t like that naturally. So that guy in the lab coat and whoever he was working with, they’re responsible for it.” Looking over to Buu, you nudge him to continue on after bringing up, “But when the worms started talking smack over how awesome they were, guess who stopped ‘em?”

“Buu did!” the Majin cheers. “Put them in big net! Biiiiig net! Then they try acting tricky, so Buu put the stinky mean worms in time-out box.” he adds cheerfully.

Tommy giggles at that. “Sounds like they got what they deserved for being so mean.”

“Mhm, mhm! Buu did great job.” He then sits back down and stares at his cards with intensity. “…Do Gohan have any… uh… one, two, three… Four! Fours?”

And you hand over the singular Four you were holding on to. Dang. Now all you have is a Three and a Nine. “But yeah, the worms aren’t gonna be a problem anymore.”

“A good thing, too, we don’t know what kind of trouble they’d cause if they started to spread out.” Chuu Lee adds in, looking up from her meditation. She then glances outside, with an eyebrow raised. “…And I think I’m sensing a visitor from there headed our way, of all things.”

You raise an eyebrow too, but then you feel it as well. Huh. Leo the Mothman’s following Lapis’ advice, and has come to Monster Island, from what it feels like.

>A. Say Tommy, were you aware of the Mothman too?

“Hey Tommy, let’s see how your Ki sensing’s coming along! Can you sense the presence headed our way?” you ask the boy. “…Also, got any Threes, Buu?”

Buu focuses intensely at the cards in his hands for a moment. “Buu have… this one!” And he hands you a singular Three with a smile. Damn.

Chuu Lee glances at the boy, and approvingly tells him, “Go ahead, give it a try.”

Tommy nods, and seems to focus for a moment. His face lights up as he comments, “I can! There’s someone… flying overhead.”

“Good job.” Chuu Lee praises, walking over and ruffling the boy’s hair a bit. “It’s the other guy Gohan and Buu encountered while they were with us, uh… Leo, right?”

“Mhm. Leo the Mothman, son of Mothra.” you confirm. And apparently four others he considers moms but you’re still not exactly sure how that works so you’ll not add to the confusion.

“Oh yeah, there used to be stories about him.” Tommy mentions. “He’d show up from time to time, sometimes scaring people, but he never tried to hurt anyone. But if you tried to hurt him first, they’d suffer some real bad luck. He also was supposed to show up if bad stuff was gonna happen to warn people…” A sad look on his face begins to form. “Not everyone seemed to listen though…”

“You wanna meet ‘em? He’s actually pretty friendly. Might even be willing to give some nice hugs! …Does kinda seem more of the huggy type of guy.”

Chuu Lee smiles a bit, though raises an eyebrow at that. “You… sure about this, Gohan?”

“Yeah! Really, he’s kinda a big softie.” you reassure her.

“Oh, oh, can I mom? Can I?” Tommy asks excitedly.

Her smile turns sweeter, and she again ruffles the boy’s hair. “Okay, we’ll go meet the guy.”

The four of you head out of the house and head towards Leo, spotting him land over in some trees nearby. His massive red eyes stare down at you all, though with a sense of curiosity, if slightly reserved, almost shy. You’re the first to greet him, with a wave of your hand a comment of, “Hey! Glad to see you again! What brings you here?”

There’s a low, almost ashamed murmur that echoes from the creature. Telepathically it responds, ‘MOTHERS’

“Ahh. Seeing some of your moms. Well good that you listened to Krillin on that.” You next place your hand on Tommy’s shoulder, commenting. “This is Tommy, he used to live in the town you were watching over. Chuu Lee and Lapis adopted him.”

“Hi Mr. Mothman!” he waves excitedly.

The creature drops down from the perch and approaches the boy curiously. Looking over Tommy, you get a bit of a surprise as the thing remarks, ‘REMEMBER… YOU’

You get a psychic vision, one of… Leo actually noticing Tommy walking once before, and… he was headed towards an area that had a large crack in the road, with dead vegetation around it. There’s a sudden rush of movement, and Tommy’s clear of the crack in the road. He seems bewildered for a moment, but shrugs and then continues walking.

“Oh! That was you!” Tommy remarks thankfully. He then tilts his head slightly. “…How did you do that? I… could sorta… see? But it was mostly what I can experience, just, with something extra.”

‘VISIONS’ Leo remarks. ‘IN MIND’ He then adds, with difficulty, ‘MIND… UNDERSTAND BETTER, SENSES, WHOLE, EVEN MISSING ONES’

“Wow… that’s so cool!” the boy cheers. He bows his head. “Thank you, Mr. Mothman. You helped me before, like Gohan did. Can… can I give you a hug?”

Leo awkwardly shuffles closer, and allows the boy to hug him. Chuu Lee smiles on thankfully as she says to you, “Gohan? You’re a good kid. Thank you.”

“No prob, Teach.”

As you watch on, you also think of something. “Say, Buu, how have the studies into medicine been? Keeping up on things still?”

“Oh! Buu learned lots already.” he responds cheerfully and confidently, pulling out one of the medical text books you and mom got for him. “Buu understand why there problems with Tommy’s eyes.”

“That’s great news!” you declare proudly, patting him on the head.

“Buu can probably start healing.” he says almost nonchalantly.

…Wait what? “Really? Already?”

He nods enthusiastically. “Uh-huh! Buu understand what wrong, and can start healing.”

Chuu Lee looks to you both in surprise, then over to Tommy.

>A. Well… all right, if you think you can, if he and his mom are okay with it
>B. Better we wait until you’ve got some practice first

You smile at the Majin. “Hey Buu, I think you should explain to Chuu Lee what you plan to do. She’s worked on healing arts before, and she both might be able to help you, but also learn from what you know. Think you can do that first?”

“Oh, okay! Buu do just that!” he declares, walking on over to her and explaining things. He… actually gives a rather detailed and thorough explanation of not just what he knows about the damage to Tommy’s eyes, but how they can be healed, and that he’s sure he can do it. Chuu Lee asks him about his healing arts and explains what she learned from Maple, how using Ki to heal instead of harm does take a great deal more control and focus, and the more specific the damage, the more effort it takes, and certain injuries are beyond what her normal healing abilities can handle, even with all the work she’s put into it.

Still… she seems to trust Buu on what he’s capable of, and heads over with him towards Tommy, Leo watching on curiously. With Teach’s careful observation but also reassurance, Buu places his hand on the boy’s eyes, and a calm, warm, soothing light flows from his hand. After a beat, Buu finally lifts his hand up declaring “All fixed!” as he does. And… Tommy’s eyes open.

https://youtu.be/XHSQ6sHqzyU?si=x05YLOjLH2x2vGo4

They open, and they’re filled with awe. Awe and wonder and joy. He looks at Buu first, then to Chuu Lee, then to Leo, the small smile on his face growing wider and wider. He looks down at his hands, moving his fingers and really seeing, truly seeing them. He looks up at the sky in amazement, with him taking steps forward and finally looking down at the ground, the green grass beneath his feet. And he looks at you, smiling, eyes even watering a little as you walk forward.

Tommy turns to Buu, and gives him a hug. “Thank you, thank you thank you thank you!” he says with joy. He next turns to Chuu Lee, hugging her tight. “Thank you too so much mom!” He then runs over to you, laughing as he does, and hugs you. “Gohan, Gohan thank you!” And he last turns to Leo, and gives the Mothman one more hug. “And thank you again for helping me!”

Buu stands there with his hands on his hips proudly. “See? All better!”

“I see! I see!” Tommy declares. “I do see!”

Chuu Lee picks him up, and you notice her eyes watering a little too. “Yeah… so happy for you, Tommy.”

All right folks, that’s all for tonight. I’m not going to be fully running tomorrow, I’ll probably wrap this up on Saturday, but I will be around here ~6:30 pm PST to talk and maybe just chill for a while. I know the news hit a lot of us fairly suddenly and fairly hard, and there’s probably going to still be some pain lingering from this, but I’ll make this suggestion: remember the moments in his work that brought you joy, that made you cheer, that filled you with excitement, that got you to laugh. It’s probably what Toriyama would have wanted. Thank you all for this, take care of yourselves, and stay safe out there, okay? See y’all soon.
>>
>>5946270
Thanks Kato. See you tomorrow!
>>
>>5946270
Really what can you say about Toriyama that hasn't already been said before? He changed not only the very course of anime and manga but an industry as a whole. Thanks to him, we not only got Dragon Ball, but so many other shows, video-games and the work he helped to inspire in others. Not only for the BIG 3 of anime, but things like Team Four Star and of course Tuffle Quest. All in all, for a man I will never meet he will be sorely missed.
>>
>>5946270
Thank you boss. That did help lessen the pain some, but know that I count this, along with so many Dragon Ball fan works, as part of those things. That Toriyama also inspired others to share and create things like this is something that makes me smile. It means a lot that you've drawn from so many of his other works while running Tuffle Quest. So truly, thank you for running.

Thank you for that, and thank you for playing.

So, like I said before, not formally running tonight, but I would like to take the opportunity to just chat and chill for a while, and maybe talk a bit about where y'all would like the Quest to go from here. I do have some plans ahead, and I will say that I've got a bit of a time skip planned, but I'd like to hear any things y'all want to work on with everyone going forward.

So, here's something I have been wondering about for a while, ever since the first day of the quest really. Where did you get the idea for tuffles?

Part of it came from seeing how other Dragon Ball Quests were handling things at the time, and me wanting to give a shot at it, but without trying to use any of the more typical races the series is familiar with. It led me to think about the history the Saiyans had with the Tuffles, and what it might be like tossing a couple of them into the main plot of Dragon Ball might be like. Other ideas included a more "proper" Tripitaka having to deal with the kinds of shenanigans that occur in Dragon Ball, or perhaps a Dragon Person with unique Magical abilities based a bit more on the White Dragon Horse, Bai Long Ma, but eventually I settled on the Tuffle idea and the kinds of options that could bring. Especially considering what the sources of those Tuffles might be, and the kind of drama that could eventually bring.

At the same time, I'd gotten through some recent rewatches of Path to Power and classic Dragon Ball, and wanted a focus centered more in that earlier time period rather than the start of Z that many others fan works liked to focus on. Path to Power having an alternate retelling of the early events of the series gave me the perfect excuse to not be tied down with how events played out in any sort of "main" canon and pick from as much Dragon Ball lore as I'd like, which eventually turned into going into Toriyama's previous and more recent works, even giving Journey to the West itself a reread for some ideas. And of course, drawing from other series that I loved that I could make some kind of obscure justification as existing within Dragon Ball proper, like the fact that, thanks to Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, not only does Gunpla exist in the series, but the Briefs family has some kits they're willing to hand out to people they like.
>>
>>5946859

I did have something to say in appreciation, not just for the wide range or Toriyama's works you employ in Tuffle Quest, but honestly all the referential material. The thing that makes this special isn't the diversity of elements brought together or the nostalgia of many of them or even the skill of the writing itself, all of which are present and excellent. The thing that keeps me here is the respect you show, even to admittedly awful parts of beloved things. The dumbest depths of GT and even the trashiest, most baffling lost pieces of Transformers lore are not just looted for ideas, but woven into the context wholly. Treated like part of a living world and not just a cheeky reference to sprinkle in, no matter how cheeky some of them may feel, you dork. I love that, and it shows most brightly with Tuffle Quest embodying all of Toriyama's work at once. It's beautiful.

Thank you very much for that. I do try to approach things with an open mind, especially when I'm thinking about how I might try to add in certain elements of different series or even just look for inspiration in. When Super was airing, my wife would sometimes joke to me about how I'd go into "QM mode" as I saw new ideas and concepts added in, new pieces of lore to work with, new characters and plot developments, and try to piece together what I could use to make the Quest more fun. I... probably at more than one point mumbled out a very Commander Shepard-esque "I can use this!", haha. Still, I love Dragon Ball, and even for the parts that frustrated me, the parts that irritated me, the parts that felt dumb or underutilized or ruined the buildup they had, I don't want to just throw them away or ignore them, I want to see them at their best.
>>
>>5946882
>Bai Long Ma
Ooh, I actually had an idea for that! So a lot of Journey to the West characters used to be bigshots in Heaven in their past lives, and the horse that Tripitaka rides on used to be a demon that ate Trip's horse. And that demon used to be a Dragon Prince, who was exiled to a river on Earth as punishment for breaking a prized pearl. The dragon prince has to find a replacement pearl in the river, or help Tripitaka after eating their horse.

The Dragon Princes also come up in another tale about Nezha, who Chiaotzu is based off of, commonly thought to be a killer doll that had
a flaming spear and roller skates. Nezha fought and killed some of the Dragon Princes. Tienshinhan is also based of Erlang Shen, Heaven's best fighter, who has an extensive history of subjugating dragons (and monkeys) as well.

So if Chiaotzu and Tien are based on heavenly beings in the original, then why not their disciples as well? With that in mind, Lao, Shao, Bisa, and Keli take after the Dragon Princes, laid. Keli in particular takes after Ao Lie, having white hair and all.

Ah, but Bai Long Ma is a dragon who ate a horse! But where is a horse to be found in Dragon Ball... of course, the gates of hell!

Gola and Melee are the gate guardians of Makai, and they are based on the figures of myth, Ox Head and Horse Face respectively. (Fun fact, Goz and Mez the Oni of HFIL also share this reference.) Gola wears a hat with horns on it, while Melee has a beautiful mane!

So if Keli and Melee were to fuse...

I wish to see more down-to-earth adventures, relevant to the player characters and their friends. The recent sessions have had alien wars and ancient labs, but the adventure that had more impact was this one, where Gohan and Buu set out to help people. This could be from something on the scale of stopping worms wanting to consume all, but it can also be reaching out to someone suffering from prejudice and loneliness, and it can be helping out a kid from having to wade through a lifetime of darkness.

But I wouldn't say get rid of the far out setting details either, in fact that can be how villains can still be relevant despite them not having fuckhuge power levels. Just throw in some ancient warmechs and alien gizmos into the arsenal of a Carmine-type, maybe some sorcery, and that should do great!

And hanging out with friends can't always be wholesome times, so please don't be afraid to have the PC's friends just really Suck on occasion. Like, Master Roshi is a hero who teaches his students many great life lessons, and he is a scumbag who pervs on women. He's great, and he sucks. How great he is can explain why people associate with him, but how he sucks can provide conflicts that hassle the PC a bit in how they escalate.

Some adventures!

It is "possible" but such a thing happening will depend on the kinds of actions taken leading up to that point. It is just one example, though. And yeah, I did back when it was airing on Toonami.

And okay, I'm back now. So let's get this out of the way:

With all that’s happened so far, there are a number of thing that will need some greater focus. Most pressing is the issue of the displaced and captured fighters. Thanks to Izzy, there’s a solid method of actively trying to pursue where some of them went, but not all at once. There might be some methods of speeding things along, but that’ll also take some work too. At the same time, there’s the new problem that’s arisen thanks to the truth of what happened to the Varak system, especially with the inhabitants of the worlds knowing about the Dragon Balls. This is in addition to what you all recently learned about the Cell Sentai, Majin Ozotto, and some others. At the same time, I have some plans for some more small scale stuff to get into soonish.

What I’d like to do today is see what y’all want to start tackling going forward, if there are any preferences towards any ideas or if there are other things y’all would like to address first. I do plan on a bit of a short timeskip, but what kind and how long will depend on what y’all are feeling today. So, what preferences do y’all have?
>>
>>5947658
Well, I would like more Eagalia and Maple time, and for Tamago to come out as nonbinary.

As for the other stuff, it's all so complex. I didn't want to know more about the Varak stuff, and it's not like pointing out Shin was an imposter got me anything for it.

Save Chiaotzu first tho!

Peppa: Completing her Yardratian training, work on her art, personal time with Cocoa, and also working more with the machine mutants and the not-transformers. Visit Natade Village and see how the folks there are doing there as well. Hang out with friends and family!

Izzy: Working with our new not-puppet friend, studying the tomes and grimoires we found, research other possible Nemurian locations. Maybe even see if the people we're 'princess' of need our help. Hang out with friends and family!

Gohan: Work on his song 'Chorus of Evolution', teach Buu more about the world, video-game stuff, Supreme Kai disciple stuff, Spirit Detective stuff. oh and friends and family time.

For all 3: It might also be time to discuss using the Hyperbolic Time Chamber again to prepare for the apotheosis/promised day stuff. Scenarios, who goes in, etc. etc.

Let's focus on the displaced fighters. The Varak thing seems like it could be bad, but I don't see a need to go put them all back in Pandora's Box at the moment. If they become a problem, they become a problem.

This is gonna sound bad and probably goes against the Tuffle Quest spirit of proactively tackling problems, but I'm fine with taking a card from canon Android Saga and reacting to threats down the line if it means good fights down the line.

Then again, perhaps trying to force Gohan's identity to fit another label because I want him to have a certain appearance is backwards, and would be doing much unintended harm to the notion of what a man can be.

Despite what others believe, I have been sitting on the name "Tamago" for some time, ever since before Kai started as Kato's ask fm can attest, but it seems it needs more time incubating for when a more fitting person comes along.

Still, I would like his appearance to get a bit more glammy, given his time training under Gramps Kai, and even if it looks a bit feminine, being a man is what one makes of it.

So, I think it looks rad and cute, but are y'all fine if he wears pink and grows his hair out to fit the Zelos Wilder look?

I thought it was cool in Early Dragonball how randos with strength are able to show up and potentially show up Goku and the like, especially if Goku hasn't eaten. I also think other people should have agendas that clash with the PCs' goals, even if they aren't evil agendas. But if they need the dragon balls, they're not going to fully cooperate with the PCs. I feel like this is the best direction to go moving forward, it's the biggest plot hook we have at the moment. While I do think it would make sense for Peppa and especially Gohan to want to try to get Goku back first, rationally it's probably more necessary to get Shin back, but I think 19 might appreciate us trying to rescue Chiaotzu. I do wonder if we could like, try to do two at once with the Time Patrol's help...

Tien is a different mess to deal with but I assume that's gonna be tied to Ozotto somehow. Don't feel as strongly a need to address that one sooner rather than later.

Okay, I believe I've gotten a pretty good read on what y'all want going forward. That said, I think I'll keep things open for tomorrow if y'all want to go over some details, expectations, other ideas, etc. We'll wrap this up then.

Thanks again for sticking with this, and see y'all ~6:30 pm PST. Take care!

Entirely possible, though keep in mind that what y'all might want to do there could come into conflict with what y'all might NEED to do there first.

>>5948670
A very good point. Plenty of demons and devils in there that can mess with things in their own terrible ways.

Okay, I'm back for now. Given the directions y'all have expressed wanting to head towards going forward, I will say this: as brought up here >>5947918 it's entirely within the realm of possibility to get the Time Patrol's help on this, but it would more or less narrow things down to two choices to focus on. It could also mean splitting whatever groups you want to send forward to finding the displaced people in two. You don't have to do that, though, you can just as easily let most of the Time Patrol try to handle such a thing or not. But if there are any preferences on the who, the how, etc. feel free to share them.
>>
>>5948672
Honestly, with Goku I feel like we should have our own, similar to Canon, bit where we know he's gone but believe he'll return one day, and carry on without him, because if we don't, who will?

Hmm. Is the time patrol our only option? Aren't there any other alliance of alternates we could go too? Perhaps one more...familiar to us? I know we teased a 'Council of Towas' but - well another council could take interest in our universe too.

I wonder what Future!Peppa's opinion on them is, and if she is a member...
>>
>>5948677

I'm okay with this.

>>5948672
And I'm fine with a split between the two teams. If I were to have a preference, Time Patrol can help with Shin while our main group tries to find Chiaotzu maybe?
>>
>>5948677
>>5948682
I would still like to get Goku, but I am fine with accepting that he'll be okay without our intervention. Save him for last perhaps as the compromise? Wherever he is, he's probably having fun punching some strong guy in the schnozz.

That raises a question, if Makai is where all things with dark and negative natures are born and thrive, just the trashheap of Creation, does that present the possibility that Pic wasn't the first time it happened?

Not a bad idea, though one that should be used sparingly.

It definitely has happened before. Eros and the galaxy it was a part of were still reeling from the effects of a certain Shadow Dragon release even up to the prior year, in-quest.

So I'm not worth talking to, but she'll still take my rolls. Even though I show up to play whenever I can. Even though we've known each other for 10 years.

I see, then do Shadow Dragons prefer to inhabit areas where a bunch of Dahk Enahgee exploded a planet, or would some move to Makai? Perhaps this also ties into the Makyans a bit, how they got knowledge of the dragon balls and why they have a negative ball of energy for a homeworld!
>>
>>5948814
Well think about this. Where do the eternal dragons go when they hibernate? Center of the planet they inhabit according to lore. Where would Shadow Dragons go then?

I don't think she'll ever seriously try to solve it, so may as well ask the room.

So a few years ago, we were suggesting appearances for Acer, and the one that stuck was the alternate look for the Dragon Warrior, debuting in Kenshin Dragon Quest and reappearing in Dragon Quest Rivals Ace, where he got a name, Alef, or Aleph.

If Acer had a descendant named Hachi, and that Hachi also had a descendant, then what would that descendant's name be? Extra hint: the fourth descendant after that has the name "Acorn."

All right folks, that’s all for this thread. Thank you all for sticking with this, and for helping craft this story about a series so many of us cherish dearly. Even if at the end of the day it’s still a kinda silly Dragon Ball Quest, I really, truly appreciate that y’all have allowed me a chance to share in being able to share this story, especially with how it’s let me add in things from the many, many various works Toriyama helped bring forth.

Stay safe out there, take care of yourselves, and again, thanks for playing!

On the recommendations of the players over in your spinoff (congrats on having such a passionate playerbase, btw! A spinoff, such a compliment!), I'm posting this here:

If the QM or players are interested at all interested, I'd like to cordially invite you to participate in that greatest of /qst/ community events, the official crossover husbando/waifu (or king & queen) contest! As a long-running, character-driven quest, I thought you folks might be interested in joining the festivities!

Taking nominees now, and for the next four days.

Well I can't say I've much experience with this, and I am not sure if you are interested in it or not, Kato, but with your blessing I would like to submit one or two characters from Tuffle Quest for this. However, the ones I wish to submit are not any of our QMCs, but rather some of your originals. Kato, would you be okay with me put forward Yazai and Basilea for this event?

A surprise, any particular reason for those two? And sure, I guess. I'm not exactly going to be invested in this, but I'm particularly opposed to it.
>>
>>5963643
How is Yazai her original character?
>>
>>5964495
Thanks!

And my reasons are thus: as much as I do like the QMCs, from Maple to Izzy, I did some thinking on the characters beyond them in the quest. Basilea might be one of the more dynamic originals you've given us, and has gone through a lot since you first introduced her to us. She's also been an interesting character for not just Peppa but now Izzy to interact with. Yazai on the other hand had been an interesting background character that got a good deal more prominent through his interactions with Gohan, and he's a bit more unique a presence.

The other ones I thought about nominating were Pantea and Acer, but I wanted to suggest Basilea and Yazai as I think they deserve some recognition for how they've impacted the quest.
>>
>>5964555
Can you answer the questions for Yazai here?
>2. a brief description of who the character is and what they're about
>3. three likes and three dislikes
>4. a special talent or fun fact
>5. a weakness, fear, or dark secret
>6. why you think they're worthy of the crown
>>
>>5964541
He's not the same character as Yamoshi, the Canon Super Saiyan God, and all lore and actual character she's given him are all things of her own making.

>>5964557
Kami of Planet Plant who became a Super Saiyan God trying to stop his cousin King Vegeta's genocidal war against the Tuffles, spends his afterlife trying to guide newer generations.
Fighting, food, justice. Tyrants, moons, land sharks.
An OC based on the initial idea of the Super Saiyan God from Battle of Gods before Canon lore expanded to explain Yamoshi.
Can't access God form properly, having died before learning how to use it right.
Didn't let being dead stop him from having an active impact on the Quest and trying to improve himself. Plus that thread could stand to get a few more "King" nominees.
>>
>>5964557
>>5964592
All right, fine, guess that's not enough.
