Hello /tg/ I have taken on the task of trolling my loveable group of trolls I call players.

The idea at the time is to turn generic D&D into a monster girl like land with some touhou ideals of frilly hats and dresses everywhere. I'll probably keep a bunch of generic monsters for their blood lust and keep the more well known monsters as monster frilly monster girl monstrosties.

Problem is I can only really think of the really generic D&D monsters and even then can't think of how to monstergirl them.

    Pathetic list so far is.

    Beholder - No clue
Displacer beast - Done see attached picture

    Mind flayer - No clue
    Slaad - Toad girl?
    umber hulk - No clue
yuan-ti - Not sure about ditching the lower half.

    So ideas /tg/?

The general idea of Touhou's youkai is that any and all monstrous traits manifest as head accessories (Suika's horns, Yuugi's horns, Momiji's wolf ears), back accessories (Nue's appendages, Remilia's wings), clothing accessories (Satori and Koishi's eyes), or just a theme. Nothing should cross the line into truly monstrous. There's a reason why the monster_girl tag on Dan/Gelbooru is almost never used for Touhou.

So you could have a beholder character patterned after Satori and Koishi, only with multiple eyes instead of just one. A mind flayer's "tentacles" could be a part of her dress's collar, and Suwako shows us that the stance is what makes a frog.

Be liberal with how you interpret features. Look at Kogasa. Karakasa should have only one eye, but ZUN decided to express that as heterochromia (she can presumably see through only one eye). The beholder could have heterochromia too.

Good points and ideas. Though yeah the general idea was to avoid full on monster girl. Still also looking for something to fill out this list.

And yes, I am totally suggesting that you mash together Touhou characters, like Kogasa and Satori/Koishi, to produce D&Dified youkai. You're already diving into the deep end.

Take Yamame, give her an all-black oversized cape, there's your darkmantle.

Yuugi with a gray color scheme and an eye-themed head accessory to replace the horn could be a gray render. She'd have to be a bit motherly too, but fanart already suggests that.

Thing is I don't know a lot of them beyond the very basics that a DM through at us through his 'voyage of D&D' campaign where we had a world spanning quest for no other reason beyond him to show off what he thought was cool monsters. The ones listened are just some I remember so more are welcome.

I would include dragons but they seem pretty easy to think up, being color or metal based and all.

I was thinking that it would be a white outfit that looks like it's been stained by dirt often, tinging it brown. You know, like real mushrooms.

Actually, I think this is the best youkai we've come up with so far.

What's her youkai power? It's usually something unrelated to their species. Maitake is known for building resistance to cancer, so maybe in an inversion of the poison mushroom theme, she can manipulate the concept of good health? I once heard that wild maitake is so expensive that those who find the perennial spawning site of one guard the knowledge of its location so closely that they don't tell it to family members. Maybe she has the power to manipulate the concept of secrets?

Vague powers is one of Touhou's delights. Don't specify what it can or cannot do.

Then again, this isn't Touhou so whatever. But leaving it vague'd give a more powerful feel to your players, while leaving actual limits via the system on the character.

Mikiko is a little... mundane. As far as Japanese names go, it's on the level of a Western name like Jessica or Anna.

Maybe we could go for something more exotic using a dictionary?

Because I'm pretty sure that Kogasa, Byakuren, and Koishi aren't standard Japanese names at all.

OP made me think on more of these. This is fun.

Naga: Her dress is really long, long enough that she'd have to pull her hands out of it and it drags behind her. No hat, but really sleek hair.

Bulette: Big multi-part hat that falls on her shoulders a bit, she has trouble keeping it steady. Likewise, her dress has layers stacks partially on top of each other. Might carry around a shovel.

Gargoyle: Tiny wings, notably grayish skin. Probably a very formal sort of ballroom dress, and definitely has tiny horns.

Owlbear: Two sets of ears like Orin, dress probably only has feathers at the top and boots like Alice's or Yuka's, but with fur on them.

I remember those things, they have pretty neat fluff.

Let's see... How about practical clothes, maybe even a bit of armor. Long hair and a fur cap, maybe even something like a D&D-ified coonskin cap. Might have a big ball of fuzz attached to their pants to turn it into a dress, at least on the back. Probably very greedy, goes from place to place trying to take anything but feels justified in stealing if it puts something else in its place.

This is the Neogi youkai, a nasty meanspirited youkai that has power over hope. She is innately lazy and tends to either do things with her metal arms or to get other people to do things for her. She uses her power to enslave people by removing all hope of resque or hope of escape from their minds, leaving them empty and excellent slaves.

She is one of the youkai that feed on humans quite often.

She is frequently seen with the Unber Hulk youkai, who seems to have developed stockholm syndrome and considers her a friend.

There, did my best to keep closish to the fluff too.

Grells are flying, tentacled predators that haunt the tunnels of the Underdark, preying on unwary passersby.

Most grells are feral, solitary hunters that rarely interact with others of their kind. Sometimes, though, they gather in large colonies consisting of dozens of individuals. Although they are sightless, grells possess the psychic ability to sense their surroundings.

Grells are known for their poison, which comes in both physical form (a paralyzing toxic) and mental form (their psychic assaults which poison the mind).

Well, if it even works like that, it could be something like the Yakumos. The dog is another touhou as its familiar.

But that sort of goes against the loneliness thing, so maybe a walking stick at most. If anything, the actual monster portrait does look like it's feeling around.

She could be from a line of youkai hunters (the Human Village has a bunch) that do this as part of their youkai hunting tradition. They take items that would transform into youkai and bound them into their service in the name of the hunt, vaguely like the Aegis Kai Doru.

She wields the mask of the bound krenshar youkai with the power to manipulate terror.

Or a youkai sealed in the mask, giving the object its power. Not being a particularly strong youkai, it hasn't been able to break free; not that it minds the mask anymore.

All it asks for is to be allowed to scare the living daylights out of people now and then.

...actually this sounds close to what you said. Eh.

I'm warming up the the viking idea, and the Tarrasque's head does look a little like a horned helmet.

Let's say she's a lazy youkai that eats whatever she wants from anyone's storehouse, restaurant, home or...well, them. But she doesn't bother doing much else aside from eat and nap, and if you catch her while she's awake but still resting she is very pleasant.

The tarrasque youkai has the ability to manipulate monotony/boredom. It has a secret lair somewhere in Gensokyo, one that it loves sleeping and bumming out in. Nobody can track it back, because if they try, they eventually get bored of doing it and go off to do something else.

But once in a while, something finds its way into this sleepy youkai's lair. It... doesn't like it when that happens.

    ಠ_ಠ

    >Tenshi Hinanai
    >The characters in her name literally mean Hi or "compare, comparative, rather", the former na is "many, comfort, calm", the latter na "name, authority", i "be, live", and ten "sky, heaven", and shi, which is a common ending for girl's names meaning "child". So the literal meaning of her name is "The child of heaven, from the calm family which bears authority".
    >But there is another possible meaning. Her name includes hina and nai. The meaning of Hina isn't clear, but the official profile says the Hinanai clan served the Nai clan in their life, so hina could mean "young chicken, small" (雛). In ancient times, na could have meant "ground", i or wi could have meant "be, exist, live in", the compound nai or nawi "foundation, basement" (the ground on which we stand), and naifuru was an ancient word for "to have a earthquake" (for the ground on which we stand to be shaken), which you can find on Nihon Shoki. As time passed, people changed "naifuru" to "for an earthquake to occur", then "nai" came to mean simply "earthquake". So her name means "The child of heaven, from the small family serving the Nai clan, who are in charge of earthquakes".
