    The dusky Berlin air still has a chill, despite the April date. Before you climbs the opulent vision on black iron, the hastily-erected citadel of the Inheritor of Thule, would-be conqueror, and perhaps mankind's best hope.

    "What the hell is taking him so long?" Garfield asks, sounding annoyed.
    Brody kicks a stone back and forth across the grass of what was once a park, but has become the fortress' outer green.

    Your attention is drawn to the clanging iron of the front doors; the military officer who you spoke to earlier approaches.
    "Please, kommen Sie," he says. "The Chancellor will see you."

    >Any plans going into this?

    >the BITCHIN' HEADBAND was discarded, I think before you even met 54, or maybe when you were transported to Kansas

    The fortress looms over you, the setting sun obscured behind its hulking spires. Several servitors flit about inside the dimly-lit halls, wearing a different sort of dress uniform, sort of reminiscent of the SS dress, but lacking the flared pant or red accents. The black-on-black aesthetic carries over to all aspects of design, a black carpet stretching down the hallway over floors of polished obsidian or marble. Past this hallway, wrought iron archways of impeccable craftsmanship lead you to a large audience chamber; stained glass windows bearing fanciful, runic designs would normally catch the light if it were brighter outside.

    Wilhem LaForce doesn't look a day over thirty, though as you draw nearer, you can see that his flesh bears the streaked, almost cracked appearance of un-fired clay, as though he is set to dissolve at any disturbance. He wears a voluminous robe of forest green with golden trim, and is seated on a stiff-backed iron throne.

    "A throne?" you ask. "Really?" the other members of your party gaze about, at the intricate glasswork or vaulted ceilings.

    "Vhat can I say?" LaForce responds with a shrug, his accent thick. "I hav a flair for de drama. If you are going to do someting, do it proper or not, as de saying goes."
    "But vhat of you, miss...? Vhat brings you to my halls, the future center of the vorld?"

    mention that it's immune to physical attacks, so the guards should probably clear out. Keep clara from shooting stuff since it'll just mess up the walls, and have her look around as best she can. Brody isn't going to like it, but it's up to him to SAVE THE KAISER by being the meat shield. He's already taking all this pretty well; he's a real champ.

    Brody charges forward towards the beast, screaming violently as he prepares to impale it. A lash of shadow whips out from the Slender Man, shearing Brody in half at the waist. His screams continue, becoming cries of agony

    >>10081523

    You snap off another spear, which strikes the far wall, missing by a mile.

    The Slender Man turns his attentions to the Inheritor, ignoring your apparent incompetence. LaForce fires off another bolt, which the dark jagged figure manages to dodge. He whips out with a long arm, catching Wilhelm at the ankle and toppling him backwards.

    >>10081533
    >1
    >Lawl
    You charge at the Slender Man, lashing out with your whips. If they can physically touch it, maybe you can tie him up for Wilhelm to deal with. The whips wrap around him tightly.
    Unprepared for a counterattack, you are pulled off your feet as the Slender Man whirls, pulling you along by your own blood. He tosses you towards the throne, where you crash into LaForce, who was trying to rise, knocking you both back to the floor.
    >Seriously, it was a 1.
    You gasp, spitting up a bit of blood, which retreats back into your mouth. Looking down, you can see a fragmented, staticky-looking lance of blackness puncturing your chest under your diaphragm. Following it, you see it connect to the trunk of the Slender Man's arm. Behind you, you feel LaForce go limp; he must have been similarly impaled.

    "...more comfortable..." The Slender Man says, the terrifying rasp gradually fading from his voice. He sounds almost human now, flakes of shadowy, ashy powder falling off him. You hear cracking and fizzling as his body seems to take a more physical shape. The blackness gradually lightens somewhat, becoming a threadbare faded gray. You cough, choking on blood again as the Slender Man paces over to you, tangible darkness fading into gray hair and pale flesh. You force your blood out of your esophagus as The Slender Man drops to a knee in front of you, and you stare into the face he has become.

    "So," you say, coughing slightly, "Key/Gate worked after all, didn't it?"
    Behind Arkham, Clara is tending to Brody, who is slowly mending. Creed takes in the situation, then fires a stream of flame at Arkham. He turns, holding up a hand, and the fire is shunted off to either side. Arkham raises a finger to his lips, and Creed collapses, unconscious.
    "Oh, no, Key/Gate was a disastrous failure. For Arkham. You see, when he realized that he had no control, when he felt the secrets of the hedrons, and man's divinity, slipping from his grasp, he grew desperate. His reach far outgrew his grasp, and he found...me." He stands back, holding his arms apart and smiling.

    "Why? Because watching you squirm brings me joy," he says. "Bringing chaos to your feeble order brings me joy. In Arkham I saw an opportunity, to introduce 13's cosmic horror to the world, and with it, to open the floodgates on the veritable zoo of nightmares he so thoughtfully bottlenecked in one place."

    The sound of harsh wind awakens you. You try to open your eyes, but pain stops you.
    "Here," you hear Garfield's voice. "Let me help you..."
    The soreness and ache of your body slowly wash away. You sit up, finding yourself lying on bare, sunbaked stone.
    "What....the..."
    You are on a mountainside, a vast expanse in view around you. Beyond that, you have no idea where you are. Nearby is a cool looking pool of water. You stand shakily, noticing that there is no puncture on your abdomen.
    "I feel...different," Garfield says. Looking at your bare skin, you can see dark runic patterns swirling slowly all over you, blood pooling under and over your skin. You try to walk forward, but you feel a heavy weight behind you. Looking back, you can see thin, membranous stretches of blood bursting out of your shoulder blades. You stagger over to the pool of water, taking a long drink. It tastes cool going down, but you're still burning up with thirst. You take a look at your reflection.

    Your entire skin is covered in the shifting blood-runes. Your eyes, once tinged red, are now completely lacking in any other color, a deep crimson orb in each socket. Behind you, the winglike protrusions flex, slowly shrinking into your skin.
    "I feel....hungry..." You and Garfield both say.

    <YOUR BOND WITH YOUR BLOOD HAS INCREASED>
    <YOU NOW GATHER NOURISHMENT FROM YOUR BLOOD'S FEEDING>
    <YOU HAVE BEEN AESTHETICALLY ALTERED>
    <YOU HAVE DEVELOPED BLOOD-WINGS>
    <WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?>

    (Since StonerDM is taking his time, I'm gonna post the speech I was going to use if we got the chance to talk our way out.)

    You know what Nyarly? Your going to let me and my team go. Why? Because that will make it more interesting. Without us, the outcome is mankind's destruction. WITH us, a slim chance is left. Oh the odds are stacked against us to be sure, but it's not 100%.

    You do this to amuse yourself, and when the ending can be seen so clearly it will surly become boring. Despair is so much less entertaining then a final desperate struggle. Leave the outcome uncertain, let a chaotic and unpredictable final showdown occur, and if man lives then you can look forward to tormenting us for thousands of years to come.

    You must have made this call before. If we could not hold your interest for thousands of years by living, we would be gone already. You let us die, then you'll have one less toy set to play with. So your going to get the hell out of my way and damn well LIKE it.

    Why? Because it amuses you, you little fuckhead.

    Man...for real you guys. I've plotted out two quests so far (I was responsible for the ill-fated MageQuest last month), and at least half a dozen D&D games. They all had twists like this, twists I would think about and be like "FUCK I can't wait to bust that shit out," and nothing ever came of anything.
    Until now.
    Thanks for finally giving me my perfect dramatic moment, /tg/. You guys are awesome.

    You know, it kind of makes sense now. Garfield is a fragment of our cosmic conciousness and Helen is another of them. It's like how fragments of Azathoth are roaming around in 13. We are both the same being, just different parts of a whole... and Helen Tanner is the primary node. I wonder what we will name all the other fragments that we get as our power grows. :/

    Your blood is the fragment of power left behind by an encounter with Azathoth, the Nuclear Chaos, an attack you were able to win, hence why you are not 13. It remains debatable whether Garfield is a part of this fragment or merely your imagination, though it's beginning to look less and less like the latter.

    Magequest was my first quest evar.
    In both instances, boredom was my primary motivation, and when I'm bored I have a need to get creative. Also all my D&D groups keep dissolving into pointless rulewhoring faggotry, so I was trying other RP outlets.
    I used to run text-based RPs with a friend that were basically one-man quest threads, so I'm familiar with the concept; I was not, however, prepared for the hivemind of varying answers and dialogue, but I think I've made due.
