EVERYONE PUT ON YOUR VIKING HELMETS AND YOUR BEST SUITS BECAUSE IT'S TIME FOR THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME: MEGACORPORATION QUEST.

You're Sleipnir Interstellar, a subsidiary of a megacorporation known as Solutions Tactical Finance Unlimited. Assisting you are another subsidiary, Aperture Science. Using their intuitive shower curtain technology, you have revolutionized inter-planetary transport amongst so many other things.

Rival megacorporations include Alien's Weyland-Yutani, Avatar's RDA, WoD's Pentex, SMAC's Morgan Industries, Bladerunner's Tyrell Corporation and Fifth Element's Zorg Corporation.

Sleipnir Interstellar first came to being in 2120. At 2130, an event took place called the Texas Impact. One of your portal facilities landed in agricultural Texas after being sabotaged and there were mysterious and enraging rumours of "portal burns". Luckily, your company survived than. Since then, you've entered a business deal with Morgan Industries, you've discovered dark, dirty secrets of Pentex's "Umbra", you've discovered the dull world of area, with high gravity and a permanent volcanic winter and Neptune has been taken hostage by space pirates. The year is now 2150.

So, gentlemen, do you want to play a game?

    - If the pirates are dealt with by you at 2156, you can keep them and get $500b.

Ok, I am going to suggest this for the last time (I did this like 3 times before, even got so 2nds)

Can we build a new military focused R&D ? Spend like 100-200bil$ and have them exclusively research war tech ? Will it give any advantages (like speeding up military tech?) or is it better to just expand our R&D again?

Plasma please reply so that I can finally shut up about this.

Also, who's for expanding R&D again?

    Year 2150:
Space combat portal research is complete! Ships can now have:
    - Portal Cannon Modules: Essentially allows for instantaneous boarding if the portal projectile hits. Costs $10b per module
    - Displacement Plating: Experimental plating for starships that has a large probability of generating portals where physical projectiles are predicted to hit. $100b cost.
Your R&D department needs more research. Lady Deidre will arrive with information on Chiron biology are will be able to assist your R&D department by 2152. On that same date, research on Aresian Written Language should also be completed by the Aresian R&D. However, your main laboratory has got free time for you to fill up! So, think up a project.
You have begun construct six warships that will be ready by 2156. I have already stated the terms of their construction.
The Neptune hostage situation is growing stagnant - nothing important is happening.
Nothing is going on on Ares.
Nothing is going on on Hermes either.
It's all fairly calm, to tell the truth.

Have Hermes CY1 begin construction of a system warship (no interstellar drive). Just 2 missile launchers, 2 laser PD batteries, and 4 mass drivers. We want to maintain the ability to Orbital Strike within the AC system.

As for R&D, do we have the portable portal technology shrunk down to the point where a warship can carry a portal generator so that it can act as the other end of a staging area? Essentially, we have lots of drones, missiles, and whatever at a portal facility, that we send through to the warship when it gets to the battle zone. That way we can save on space and mass by keeping those things off of the ship itself.
    >> Anonymous 06/09/10(Wed)17:54 No.10391780
Did we ever build a portal-based particle accelerator? if not, have R+D get on that. If so, have R+D get on weaponizing that.

A thought on combat ships modules is the Vectored Thrust section. Combined with portal technology and mounting large engines on key maneuver points you don't have to worry about the hazardous easy to hit fuel lines because it's being directly portal'd to the engines. Should prove very powerful for smaller ships and may even help larger ones.

Also a suggestion for two of the heavy freighters to load up supplies and equipment needed in Hermes and Ares in AC and heading back out towards them. If we don't have an idea for the other two just rent them like we have been.

We might need some actual ground (well, space ground) troops for retaking Neptune.

We can blow their ships out of orbit without to much difficulty, but it could end up turning into a siege with the pirates on the stations, and that will put various assets in Neptune (personal, and orbital stations) at risk.

I'm for the portal hangar idea. It turns a single ship equipped with it into an entire base facility's worth of missiles, drones, and ground troops. Imagine one of these combined with a boarding module: the troops won't have to be on the ship itself. They can chill at a staging area on Earth, then when it's Go Time, the go through the portal to the ship, then from the ship to the target.

I know our portal stations on Neptune are shut down, but do we still have access to the stations? If the actual portals are unguarded, then we can pump troops into the stations while we fight the ships outside. We can also evac the people while the pirates are busy.

I was thinking, if a portal's edge works like it would logically seem to me it does, then a portal's edge would be the most effective cutting tool in the universe, because one side of the item goes in the portal, the other side goes on without the rest.

Imagine a missile that does this. It uses a portal 'shield' until it is close, then twists the portal sideways and slices right though an enemy ship.

Once this is over with, I say we use 150bil to try and get to the bottom of this. No doubt there's an offical investigation, but once we capture some pirates, interrogate them, and try to trace back their weapons and kit we'll have a much better chance of finding who's responsible than any other official lines of investigation.

Besides, if one of our rivals is responsible then we can finally start blowing them up.

Your knowledge of Aresian culture is limited. You have access to what are probably only a handful of countries.
The main organization is a union of states run as a sort of technocracy, where those with the most intelligent concepts and creations are accepted as leadership. Many of the transcriptions show much stagnation and argument and a severe lack of agreement and a severe quantity of bickering and evidence that most settlements that are not large towns are left to their own devices. The scientists have translated this to something similar to "the New People", although the faction dates back over five hundred years, they are heralded as revolutionary. They are to the North-East.
Another important faction is much smaller. A theocratic dictatorship. The "Children of Sun and Stone", according to translation. They are fanatical about the highly reactive metals that are common in the earth of Ares that they use to produce fire and wish to learn its secrets. They also believe that the sun is an all powerful god that produced it. They are the most technologically advanced faction, from the translations, and most likely the most unified. They are to the East.
Then there are the "the Blessed", believe are equally theocratic but much less organized and the least advanced faction. Even more splintered than the new people, their religion is very typical and focuses primarily around a single deity and a single afterlife.
All three super factions are warring.

The last recordings show the groaning passengers slowly emerging from their cryo-tanks, slowly approaching a brave new world with awe and amazement, gazing out of the windows. Alarms go off. Thermal sensors at the time show six artificial structures, each of which launched two smaller structures. The larger structures refuse communication. As the smaller structures approach, in the last few seconds, they can be identified as human missiles. Everyone screams as they become able to see them through the port holes.

The second we release proof to the public we tell Zorg to GTFO and bomb the shit out of the MNU/Zorg shipyards. The pirates can fucking stay for now.

The people will want justification for the bombings ofcourse. And we'll give them one, the MNU and probably Zorg as well have abused ours and the worlds trust to build their own terrorist army. They want to pin the blame on us so they can build a fleet of their own and thus take over space and threaten every human colony with oppression.

This technology was present in the drones.
This technology was also present in the battleships both corporations began to construct when the pirate drones first started their business.
