You thank Amanda for the benediction, and make your way back to your cabin. It seems to have taken longer then you thought, as there is a warning about the Warp Transition on your cabin's terminal. A little clock is steadily counting down, 20 minutes. "Maybe you should lay down? Warp transitions are always strange, the first one more so." Emmie folds out the bed and lays you down on it. She smiles at you and takes off your boots. Removing her own, she crawls up on the bed and snuggles with you.
Soon, you feel the ship vibrate. Suddenly, your teeth feel too big and your arms too long. Your ears ring and there is a brief spasm in your stomach. Just as suddenly, everything returns to normal. She lived an average Krieger childhood, which is to say near constant training for when she joined the ranks of the Imperial Guard. She didn't have many friends growing up, and has been clumsy since she was a little girl. When she was 16 she was attending an official function. A high ranking officer was visiting her settlement, a general in fact, come to inspect the future troops. He had asked for her and several other young girls to come to his accommodations. He left the next day and 9 months later she gave birth. Other then those first ten minutes when she was allowed to give her child his first meal, she never saw her child. As soon as she was old enough, she was shipped off to war. First a cleanup operation against the remnants of a Tyranid invasion, then across the galaxy to take down a heretic cell that had corrupted a Planetary Governor. The last two years she has spent quietly on your home planet.
