11 KB The Starving Kreiger Anonymous 06/30/10(Wed)02:16 No.10837208
    +++Ordo Malleus Encrypted Missive+++
+++Subject: Confirmed sightings of The Starving Kreiger+++
+++Thought for the day: The Demon takes many guises, all of which still bleed the same+++

Sirs, the following missive details on the history, and subsiquent sightings of the entity known as The Starving Kreiger. May you find it most informative.

    +++History+++
The legend of The Starving Kreiger arose amongst the ranks of the 8945th forward assault company of the Death Korps of Krieg. The war for Saghalain against the Tyranid horde was brutal, and the 8945th found themselves cut off from all reinforcements. Alone, out numbered, and cut off from any hope of survival, these gallant men did what Kreigers do best, they fought to the last man. The tyranids moved on from the bunker, leaving nothing but desolation, and one lone Krieger alive. None know how he survived, but, the next contact made by him is the beginning of a most curious matter.
    >> Anonymous 06/30/10(Wed)02:23 No.10837319
Reports began to trickle in from front line units, of a kreiger who stood as tall as an astares, but as slim and emancipated as a starved man. It was said that this kreiger would appear where the fighting was thickest, his las pistol and combat knife a blur of death, silently turning the tide to Imperial favor. Rumors arose of how he was able to break the tyranid synapse, others said that he was no longer human, but a failed attempt at biomass collection. Any attempts to communicate with him however, were met with a cold silence.

While this is not unusual for Kriegers, there are whispers around the units that he now devours biomass himself, through the torn tube of his mask.
    >> Anonymous 06/30/10(Wed)02:32 No.10837419
    +++Inquisitorial Findings+++
Instances of The Starving Krieger have shown a residual warp signature of .05, lower than normal for manifestations of this type, however, this may be attributed to the "shadow of the warp" effect known to surroun the tyranic fleets. Further investigations show an interesting pattern to The Starving Krieger's movements, he appears to migrate to wherever there is the largest concentration of Xeno's biomass. Mop up teams report the area's where The Starving Krieger has been active, are devoid of any and all xeno's forms, while the bodies of our own gallant soliders are left in standard imperial burial postion, but are lacking their ration packs.

    +++Additional Data Submitted+++
Recently received from an Astares vidfeed, the attached holovid shows The Starving Krieger devouring fallen tyranid lifeforms, the broken tube of his mask acting as a proboscis. Dispite the ammount consumed, the subject does not appear to gain any additional mass to himself. Daemonic Influences have been deemed probable, requesting Malleus study team investigate

    "I have seen many things.
I have killed most of them.
However, in my centuries of battle, I have never faced an opponent like this."
-Last recorded words of Tactical Marine Squad Leader Acturius Holt

In response to the assumed deaths and devourment of Malleus study team Felix Delta 059, an Ultramarines Tactical Squad was dispatched to confront the threat of the now hostile Starving Kreiger. The Tactical Squad followed him for a number of days, watching as he decimated and devoured roving bands of gaunt based xenoforms. Goading him into a sealed cave, using a severly injured tyranid warrior as bait, Holt's squad attempted to eliminate The Starving Kreiger.

The Astares rescue team found ten suits of empty Power Armour. Gouged into the chest plate of Squad Commander Holt's armour was the following

"The Emperor commands my works. Do not interfere"

Daemonic influences are now confirmed, a petition for an Ordo Malleus kill team has been lodged with the Administratum.

Reports are continuing to arrive, detailing the exploits of The Starving Krieger.

All platoon Captains are ordered to avoid confronting The Slender Kreiger at all costs. Failure to do so will result in Commisarial investigation.

All Imperial Guard personnel are forbidden from leaving out ration packs for The Starving Kreiger. This is a drain on the administraum, and anyone caught doing so will receive thirteen lashes.

I saw him. I saw the Starving Kreiger. I had heard the stories about him, how he can kill an astares, or take down one of those, corna, carna, carnifexes by himself. I thought they were just rumours, like you hear about Cypher, or Commissar Fuklaw.

But I saw him. And he was terrifying. The nids attacked us at dusk, the sound of thousands of clawed feet chattering against the rocky ground, when he appeared. Just as the wave of living death was about to crash upon us, he leapt forward, his gangly limbs lashing out, spearing nids left right and center. I lost sight of him, only for him to appear right beside me, and grab a gaunt around the neck, saving me. With a sickening crack, he turned its spine to jelly and threw it aside, continuing his way down the trench. I followed him. Don't ask me why, but I did.

He saves us. He saved so many of us. I watched as he took a talon to the chest, to protect the captain. I saw him continue on, prying a gaunt off the voxman, throwing it so hard at one of the bigger creatures, it splattered across its armour.

The emperor protects us, and The Starving Kreiger, is his tool.

"Inquisitor says there's a demonic Kreiger out there needin' the light of the Emperor drilled into his skull." Gunnery Sergeant Jason Deloria explained to his platoon.
"Inquisitor says he killed a squad of smurfs. Fat lotta good those glory hogs were."
A chuckle arose from the assembled storm troopers.
"Inquisitor says, the smurfs backed him into a corner, so, like any cornered animal, he tore his way out."
Jason stopped, and faced his men.
"I say, lets go give that gas mask wearing bastard an all you can eat buffet of hotshots."
A cheer rose up from the assembled storm troopers. Jason forced a smile. He knew this was a suicide mission. Their job was to slow the abomination down and distract it long enough for them to get a signal fix from the pair of Valkyries that had been assigned to glass "That abomination and anything within a good 20 clicks."
Such is life in service to the Emperor.

The storm troopers were annihilated in the Valkyries missile strike. May the Emperor have mercy on their souls.

The Starving Kreiger however... Survived. The cognitors have no idea how he survived that. He appears to be getting taller still, his limbs stretching, and his mask has been marred with what looks like a large black smile across it.

He ran into a Tyranid vanguard we had under surveillance, and annihilated them. He then looked up at the observation craft and started at it, before loping off towards the next large concentration of Tyranids.

I have petitioned the Inquisition to hold back on their currently posted kill order, citing the fact that this, anomaly, is still protecting imperial interests, dispite its... heretical... appearence.

WHY DID YOU SEND THEM. THE EMPEROR LOVED THEM.
WHY DID YOU SEND THEM TO THEIR DEATH.
I AM DOING THE EMPERORS WORK. WHY DO YOU SEEK TO STOP ME.
    WHY?

Why do you fight me? Why do you send men to die against me? WHY DO YOU WASTE LIVES.

YOU. YES YOU. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. IF THIS CONTINUES, I WILL FIND YOU. I WILL SAVE AS MANY AS I CAN.

    As many as I can."

The holofeed cut to static. Inquisitor Ibrahim steepled his fingers in front of his face. The Starving Kreiger had stared at him. He had felt it, the abomination knew who he was, where he was.

For the first time in years, Ibrahim felt fear clutching around his chest.

"General, the anomaly continues to help us."
Theodorus looked up from his dataslate.
    "I'm aware of that."
His aide looked around nervously, before continuing "Then why do we continue to throw men at him?"
Theodorus reached under his desk and pressed a concealed button. Specially installed shielding thrummed to life.
"The only reason we throw men at him is because if we did not, that damn inquisitor would have the lot of us killed for heresy."
    "is that safe to say?"
Theodorus nodded "The cog boys dont like him either, so thats why they installed this commsheild for me."
"Well then sir, permission to speak freely."

Commissar Charles Jamerson was a man who could get things done. He was the sort of man who, were it not confidential, would have holovids made about him.

When General Rhyustoveilt had explained the situation to him, Jamerson had understood completely.

That is why he was now following The Starving Kreiger as he loped across the plain, heading for the city that was in the path of another Tyranid advance.

He glanced over the data slate one final time, confirming all of his information. From the cognitors who had poured over every scrap of footage of the anomaly, they had identified who he once was, from the administratum, he had gotten a hold of shipping manifests, and had found where Inquistior Ibrahim had holed himself up. With these two peices of information, Jamerson knew he could salvage this situation.

The Chimera's driver gunned the engine, speeding past the already quick Starving Kreiger, before sliding to a halt infront of him.

Jamerson climbed out of the roof hatch and stood atop the chimera, and saluted. The Starving Kreiger came to a halt, two of its paces away from the chimera, and returned the salute.

"I know who you were, and I know who you seek." Jamerson announced. The Kreiger nodded.
    "Who do you serve?"
In a voice that sounded as cool and collected as every other Krieger Jamerson had met, the anomaly replied
    "The Emperor."
Jamerson smiled, "And who do you protect?"
    "His children."
    "Do you fear death, solider?"
    "No, Sir."
"How far would you go to forfil your duty?"
"As far as The Emperor Allows."
Jamerson offered his hand, "Well then, Solider, we have a mission for you."

(apologies for the delay, nutrients were being acquired)

Brother Captain Issac, Leader of the Ultramarines force on Saghalain was infuriated. An Ultramarine squad had been annihilated by that, thing. That, abomination in the eyes of the Emperor. The Inquisitor was right, it must be dealt with. He had petitioned the other chapter representatives to help him, which had gained him only scorn or laughter.
"Whats the matter, Issac?" Sirius Redfist of the Space Wolves had mocked, "Don't like the fact that not only has he mopped that cave with your blueberries, but he's saved more people than your entire company?"
Issac had broken the table with his fists "How dare you, barbarian."
Sirius had thrown his head back and laughed "My my, what would calgar say if he saw you like this? I might have to lodge a report against you."

The rest of the planning session had focused on the best points for astares deployment, but Issac had brooded the time away, plotting his revenge for the loss of face he had suffered.
Inquisitor Ibrahim had found him after the meeting, and offered his terms.

The Starving Kreiger would fall to ultimars fist.

Jamerson smiled, as he bumped tankards with Sirius. Jamerson had met the flaxen haired Space Wolf back on Peraxius, during the ork incursion there back a few decades ago. The pair had formed a bond when they had both discovered an unaccounted for pallet of amsec, and agreed to split it. The Space wolf had been impressed with the commissars guts, while the Jamerson had just enjoyed having a drinking partner who didn't pass out before him.

The pair also had a vested interest in The Starving Kreiger. Ibrahim had gained the ire of both parties, and Sirius liked nothing more than seeing the self absorbed Ultramarines be humiliated, so after an intelligence report showed that Ibrahim and Issac were in cahoots, Jamerson and Sirius decided to even the odds.

"So basically, that's how its going to work." Jamerson said, taking another draught from his ale. Sirius nodded, "Sounds good to me. Now, can you get your slender friend to play his part?"

Materializing from seemingly nowhere, The Starving Kreiger appeared.
"It will not be a problem".

Ibrahim smiled. Seated between Issac and one of his vanguard veterans, he felt near invulnerable. He knew where the abomination was headed, right into his trap. Careful application of under equipped men had made a highway of biomass for the tyranids that Ibrahim knew The Starving Kreiger would not be able to resist. He also knew that this was his one chance to save himself.

Issac was lost in his own thoughts, he had studied how the abomination fought, how it protected the lives of expendable troops, instead of carrying the emperors glorious name forward. Cowardice. Thats what Issac thought, The Starving Kreiger was a coward. Too concerned with the lives of the few, when there was an entire imperium that needed protecting.

Jamerson watched the rhino formation continue on its way, "Plans within plans" he mused to himself, before radioing back to the general what was happening.

All i could smell was ozone from my rifle, the constant artillery barrage took away any meaningful noise, and it wasn't hard to find something to shoot at.

We had seen what was happening, that Horus damned Inquisitor had set us up, just like he had the 507th and the 893rd. More meat into the grinder, that's all we were. Grox to the slaughter.

But that's when they arrived, the Wolves of Fenris. Armoured behemoths surged forward, body checking nids left and right, as bolters spat death, and chainswords followed in their wake. We knew what to do, we charged in behind them, our lasguns strobbing as we provided covering fire as best we could.

The nids resurged, breaking like a wave over the rocks that were the Astares. I saw one get dragged down under a pile of nids, we tried to save him. That's when I noticed that there were Ultramarines behind us, not doing anything.

They were waiting, for what, to this day, I dont know. But they stood there, and they watched us die.

"Where is he?" Ibrahim yelled, slamming his fist against the side of the rhino, "He should be here."

The front line slowly moved back to the trenches, Sirius dragging the body of his fallen comrade back with him. "Where are you, ya skinny bastard?" he mumbled to himself, as he watched the tyranid line reform for another assault. "Men of the Imperial Guard, let it never be said you lack courage. Here we stand, shoulder to shoulder to defend our Imperium", Sirius roared, "DEATH TO THE XENO".
The cry was echoed up and down the trenches, as the tyranids surged forwards again.

Issac sheilded his eyes and looked across the battlefield. To not be in glorious combat offended his warrior sensibilities, as well as meaning that the damned Sons of Russ were getting more glory. Glory that he deserved.
"There", he said, pointing to the Hive Tyrant and his warriors, "Something worthy of our attention"
"But what about the abomination?" Ibrahim yelled at him, "We need to kill him."
Issac smiled, "Then come with us, we will get his attention."
Ibrahim grinned back,"Of course." Grabbing a vox he yelled down the headset "I need a platoon assigned to me immediately."

Zeroing in on the location of the transmission, Jamerson grinned, "Yes sir, right away sir."

Alone, in the back of a chimera, The Starving Kreiger waited.

Jamerson knocked on the side of the chimera.
    "It's time. You ready?"
From inside the armored shell came The Starving Kreigers reply.
    "It is time".

Issac howled with delight, his power sword eviscerating xeno scum left and right. Around him his retinue was a maelstrom of death. A Valkyrie screamed over head, dropping a chimera atop a group of genestealers. The chimera opened, and there was a flash of light.

Issac pawed at his face, his augmented eyesight fighting to recover. Slowly his vision returned, to see the hive tyrant looming above him. The xeno roared in challenge, before exploding from the chest. Landing in a crouch, The Starving Kreiger rose to face Issac.

"The Emperor has found you wanting, Abomination!" Issac howled, lunging forward with his powersword. The Starving Kreiger didn't move, and was impaled up to the hilt. Staring Issac lens to eye, The Starving Kreiger whispered "The Emperor is the one who guides me. The man who is wanting..."
Issac felt his hand wrenched from his swords hilt, before being crushed,
"The man who saw fit to let others die meaninglessly, so his own glory could be fulfilled.. ."
Issac gasped, as the abomination punched him in the chest, its slim fingers parting his armour like paper.
"The man who the emperor will not shed a tear for..."
Icy fingers curled around his twin hearts, as Issac tried to scream
"The man," The Starving Kreiger whispered, as he leaned to Issac's ear "The man who will suffer not for his own actions, but in vain for another, even worse than himself"
Fingers closed, muscles tore and blood flowed.
    "Is you".

With a flick of his arm, The Starving Kreiger hurled Issac's body away. Ibrahim watched in terror as the abomination looked at him.
"KILL IT" Ibrahim roared, as he opened fire with his own bolt pistol. The Remains of Issac's retinue followed suit, peppering The Starving Kreiger with fire.

He advanced. Dispite the rain of fire pouring upon him, He advanced. For the people who had died needlessly, he advanced. For his comrades in arms, who had died for the sake of another mans ambitions, he advanced. For his duty to his emperor, The Starving Kreiger Advanced.

The First of the ultramarines swung at him with a powerfist. That marine found himself choking out his last words with his own fist buried half a foot in his armoured chest.

The second swung at the abomination with his combat knife. The last thing he saw, was that same knife being driven towards his face.

The third marine tackled The Starving Kreiger to the ground, managing to get on top of him, and delivering a salvo of punches to his face. He was rewarded with a massive headbutt, before having his throat torn out, and being used to block fire from the fourth.

The fourth marine ran out of ammo. Drawing his powersword, he charged the abomination, howling "FOR ULTI-"
His cry was cut short by Issac's power sword taking his head from his shoulders.

The Starving Kreiger turned, his carapace armour rent open, displaying a curious glow underneath it. Pointing Issac's sword at Ibrahim, The Starving Kreiger growled, "This ends. Now".
    >> The Littlest Kreiger 06/30/10(Wed)06:09 No.10840170
    Ibrahim laughed.
"You think you can beat me? Do you? Deamon?"
The Starving Kreiger merely stood, watching, waiting.

No-one noticed the biomass that was being absorbed through his boots. The hive tyrants defeat had removed synapse control from from the horde, making it easy for the combined space wolf and imperial guard forces to mop up.

From the retaken trenches, guardsmen watched. Ibrahim circled his opponent, mocking him further. "I sent you to retrieve an item for me. I am the of inquisition, the extension of the will of the Emperor himself. What are you? You were once at least a member of the imperial guard? But now? You are an abomination. You should not have tried to control that which you do not understand. Now, give it to me."
Ibrahim demanded, putting his hand out.
"Give it to me, give me the Emperors Key."

The Starving Kreiger shook his head.

    "Sir, we found it"
The squad of Kreigers had pulled the ceramite chest from its storage space. Dust clung to everything, almost as oppressively as the silence. The faint wheeze of respirator units was the only sound as the chest was inspected for any damages.
    "What is it, sir?"
"The Inquisitor said its important to him, that's it."
"From what this data slate says, its a weapon."

Ibrahim had been monitoring the squads communications, making sure that they didn't nose around with what they shouldn't.

    they had.

"Advance the regiment to the rendezvous point." Ibrahim ordered, killing the audio feed.
"But sir, the retreval team are still in there."
"I SAID ADVANCE THE REGIMENT SOLIDER. DO NOT QUESTION THE INQUISITION." Ibrahim roared, holding his rosette to the communication officers face.
"Question me again, and we see how well you fare questioning a firing squad. Do you understand?"
The communication officer nodded mutely. So many lives had been lost because of this man and his secretive agenda.

    "SIR. CONTACT."
"WHERE'S THE REST OF THE REGIMENT?"
"I DON'T KNOW. GET UP HERE, THEIR COM-" the voice was cut off with a scream and a loud buzzing noise, then the sickening wet crunch of being stood upon.

A quick check of the auspex confirmed it. They were cut off. Abandoned. There was only one thing to do, die for the Emperor.

Opening the chest, a Kreiger pulled an item that was nowhere near ready for use, and used it.

    Bright Light.
    Where am I?
    What is happening?

**My son, You were not ready.**

    Who are you?

    **I am your Emperor.**

The kreiger felt warm, he felt safe. He was with the one who he was told would make it all better. That warmth soon faded, as he was told what had happened. What was happening, and what would come to pass if he failed.

**You must go now, my child. Protect those who cannot protect themselves, help me to carry my burden, as I help you with yours.**

The Kreiger had felt tears stream down his face, as the light faded, he remembered.

    **My child, I am sorry.**

    "No".
    Ibrahims face contorted with rage.
"GIVE ME THE EMPERORS KEY. NOW."
Again, The Starving Kreiger shook his head and whispered "No".

Howling with Fury, Ibrahim launched forward, his force spear blurring. The Starving Kreiger crouched, and deflected the blow with his combat knife.

Ibrahim's eyes widened. The combat knife was glowing, the same as the abomination. The Starving Kreiger reached up and grabbed the shaft of Ibrahim's force spear, and pulled it from his grip.

The tendrils of fear around Ibrahim's chest tightened. The Abomination snapped his spear across its knee.

"You abandoned us. Not for the Emperor, not for mankind, but for yourself." The Starving Kreiger said, as he cast aside the halves of Ibrahim's now broken weapon.

"You turned your back on our suffering, to further your own agenda."

Ibrahim backpedaled, only to find Sirius standing behind him. The Astare looked down at him, "You sacrificed innocent lives. Lives that could have served The Emperor in a meaningful way, but they were squandered at your command."

Sirius shoved him back towards The Starving Kreiger. Ibrahim staggered forward, before The Starving Kreiger shot him in the knee. Screaming in pain, Ibrahim collapsed to the ground, holding his mangled leg.
"You wanted this?" The Starving Krieger whispered to him, pointing to the glowing device in his chest.

    "You can have it."

From the Diary of Commissar Charles Jamerson
    The Saghalain Campaign.

To this day, I have never seen anything like what happened. The Starving Krieger tore that golden cube from his chest, and smashed Inquisitor Ibrahim's skull in with it. Light exploded from the cube, as Ibrahim's body dissolved into nothingness. A tortured scream echoed out from the light, as what I can only describe as Ibrahim's soul was torn apart and absorbed by the cube.

The Starving Kreiger dropped to his knees. I don't remember running over to him, but I caught his lanky frame before it hit the ground. He looked me in the eye, and I'll never forget what he said.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, but it no longer sounded hollow.
"The Emperor said that. He said he was sorry."
I felt tears well up, as he continued, "He told me I was going to die. He explained what the item was, how it worked. It was by his will that I survived."
He coughed, and sucked in a ragged breath before continuing, "He said that he trusted me with this because I knew my place, I knew that my life was expendable. He saw what Ibrahim was doing, and he saw that I was willing to stop him, no matter the cost. I have done my duty, grant me his peace."

We never found out who The Starving Kreiger was, the file we made for him is locked under inquisitorial confidences, so no-one will ever know of his sacrifices. As me and Sirius shared an ale at headquarters, he shook his head, "That man was truly one of the emperors own."
I just nodded and drank some more. Upon the cog boys investigating "The Emperors Key", it was a weapon of terrible design, made to suck the souls of the dead back from the warp to be made into ammunition.

Following the paper trail left by Ibrahim, a web of deceit and corruption became apparent, so much so that a combined inquisitorial and commissariat investigation was launched, and a near sector wide purge was preformed.

I hear that the Kreigers are using the coat of The Starving Kreiger as a standard now, it still glows with the Emperors benevolence, so they say. He's now a legend amongst the Saghalain veterans, and that, I suppose, is all a solider can ever ask for.

To serve his emperor, and be immortalized in legends.

Nurgle is like Buddha in the sense of the less you desire, the less you will be depressed.

And the transistion to the different lifestyle the god of life (nurgle) gives. He will keep you very powerfully, he wants all life to become his. Everything his diseases kill gets resurrected in his domain as a demonic entity. It all stays alive, forever unless it is forcefully taken from him.
