So after dealing with shit im my life, colonial quest is back for any of you folks who actually remember it. In addition to what we had, ive also got details on almost every race and nation.

Previously, The duke along with Baron Kaufmann, Captain Umberto Alessandro, Marie kaufmann and a small band of 30 men (10 fessians, 20 marines) tracked down the dukes wife and captain Petrovski who were captured in the war with the Republic of Acra.

Oops, sorry, that was fort rape. Heres the city they are being held in. In addition, you found possible men to help you break them free.

    1. A Swabian called Taksony Ladislaus, a former Prisoner of Vodor prison who escaped 6 years ago but has remained in the city due to the lack of funds to get himself out, and to prevent recapture has grown his antlers and beard right out. He has some skills in swordplay but his biggest use is his ability to get in and out of the prison. All he requires as payment is you take him back to serenity as 'anything is better than here'

    2. Former Captain of the Guard Renaldo, who was shamed when Taksony Ladislaus escaped from the prison and was forced into retirement last year. He still has contacts within the palace guard and could possibly help you get in and out with a little bit of money, but as payment he requires that you kill Taksony Ladislaus in broad daylight to send a message to the rest of the underworld. He is a fine swordsman.

Although thinking about it more Renaldo never did specify where we had to kill him. perhaps kidnapping and executing once we are back in serenity might not be a bad idea.....

After hiring the Swabian, you make walk bys of the prison and palace.

The prison is a formidable structure, most likely capable of holding off any full scale assault until the food supplies run out, but for a small party it may be possible. The front gates are impossible to walk in with, with at most 2 carts a day entering and 1 leaving with waste, rubbish and the occasional body. The walls are around 15m high and are made of rough limestone, and shouldn't be impossible for somebody to climb, with the swabian showing you two blind spots.

Your scouting of the palace is just as frustraiting, while you are able to get onto the grounds under the guise of kaufmanns entourage, you can see if you used this to get in to rescue the duchess, it'd be a problem getting out, with all gates capable of being shut when a large horn onto of the palace is blown, an alarm.

You are able to meet the duchess though, and promise that you will be rescuing her. She says she spends most of the daylight hours on the grounds with no guards, simply because the guards at the gates are informed to not to allow her to leave, and search carts for just this reason, and at night shes confined to the palace.

    > but as payment he requires that you kill Taksony Ladislaus in broad daylight to send a message to the rest of the underworld.

I don't think he would agree to that, seeing as he is probably thinking about the underworld in the city.
And 'in broad daylight' pretty much means, in public, where other people can see it and spread the new to the underworld.

Hmmm... the palace is a tricky one, it would definetly be easier to complete the rescue mission there if the horn was disabled, exactly where was the horn placed? This might be vital.

Also, The guard shifts, and the fact that the duchess is unguarded at day seems like something that can be exploited.

The prison break however, seems much simpler.
Sneak/climb into the prison, disable guards as silently as possible (trying to avoid detection) and then break out the captain.
Then either sneak out again, or if discovered, then try to break out with force.

Its located, from what you can see, a tower ontop of the palace. Observation from a building outside the walls shows that the palace roof top has around 20 guards ontop, but due to the shape of it it could be easy for somebody to sneak around if they were lucky.

If we make the prison escape grand that would definitely give us something to help the escape from the city after the prison/palace brake. How much spare gun powder do we have on the ship?
    >> Brutality 08/18/10(Wed)14:37 No.11728259
    >>11728221
Well, it's probably best to break them out one at a time, since that would increase survivability to some degree.
Also, the prison seems as such that if the guard there is raised, it will be infinitely harder to break the captain out, due to them actually being on guard for intruders then.

I think we'll need more input than mine though.

    >> Hats 08/18/10(Wed)14:48 No.11728358
    >>11728319

    Very well..

My basic plan was to use some of that gunpowder to basically blow a hole in the prison. Preferably if we can get underneath the prison and pull some gunpowder plot like scheme. Then we have a small team lead by the Baon and Captain raide the prison. Kind of using the prison bomb like a distraction the duke and marie and some fessians attack the palace and save the duchess
    >> Brutality 08/18/10(Wed)14:50 No.11728387
    >>11728319
So, for the palace breakout, I think we should send Marie Kaufmann, at least half of the fessians (don't know how effective their halberd would be inside the prison walls), and 10 marines.

The first order of business would be to take out that fucking horn, and the gate guards simultaneously.
If this is done during the day, we can get the duchess right out, with the gate guards being dead and the horn silent.

We would have to leave some of troops outside of the gate (not in view of the guards there), and then time try to time the horn and gate guard killing.

that might attract the attention of the other palace guards, but at that point, we will probably making a run for it with the duchess (if it's done during the day).
If done during the night, the variable to the plan would be that they have to get into the palace and kill a lot of the guards there.

    1. What hour will you do this at
    2. How do you plan to take the horn out.
    >> Hats 08/18/10(Wed)15:01 No.11728501
Oddly enough I think a day attack might work best in this case. The biggest problem we will have with a day attack though is an increase in guard numbers and they can respond quicker once things are in motion.
    >> Brutality 08/18/10(Wed)15:03 No.11728520
    >>11728454
Honestly? Night hour sounds the most feasible.
I though that some of the fessians/marines, might sneak around the palace at night, climb up and kill of the guards on top as quietly and quickly as possible, once they are done, they climb down again, and then the gate guards should be killed of.

Then they all break into the mansion, killing a lot of guards, then they locate the duchess and make a run for it.

(unrelated to the palace breakout itself, but at the same time, the prison break should take place).

The only problem I think with the sneaky plan is that it lacks an element of confusion. If we can confuse the enemy then they will have a harder time striking back before we can set sail. The only problem with confusion is that we have to make a lot of noise.

Honestly either plan can work I just feel our current roster of combat personnel is not the best for sneaky stuff.

    >>11728501
A day attack might be the best for getting the duchess out quickly. It might be easier to take out the horn during night time due to lowered visibility. And taking out the horn is vital to the entire breakout, because if that horn blows, our people will be trapper in the palace grounds.

October, year 464 of our holy mother

Baron, the Swabian and his Fessians move into position around the prison, swimming across the mote and waiting on the other side, waiting for the signal to move into position.

Meanwhile at the palace grounds, the duke and 18 marines entered in civilian clothing, with 10 of them infiltrating the palace, making it onto the roof and one by one, the dispatched the guardsman in the dead of night. To disable to horn, they push it off the tower onto the rooftop before starting a fire inside it with oil, not enough to be seen but enough to warp it out of shape. Meanwhile the Duke and his men enter the palace via the servant entrance after bribing some slaves, and made their way to the duchess quarters. They had almost made it when a guard stopped them under suspicion, and was about to raise the alarm before the Duke rammed his Sabre into him, and picked up the pace.

Meanwhile at the Prison, marie kaufmann approached the gates with two men pulling a cart, and after using her feminine charms (Which she made quite vocal that the duke would be paying her double for), got the cart up to the gates, where the axel of the wheel suddenly broke. Before the guards could investigate, marie and the two men ran off, before an earthshattering explosion took place, completely decimating the gatehouse and wounding all guards within 50m of it. It was now the baron made his move, his fessians climbing the walls, and under the lead of the swabian they released the captain and 3 of the hussars (the rest had died under torture), before fighting their way to the guardtower after releasing as many prisoners to create a distraction.

After hearing the explosion, the force at the palace picked up the pace and after silently killing two of the guards at her door, they burst in to find the duchess sleeping, til she was awoken by the duke. Despite the fact she was only in her sleeping garments, they were forced to flee at once after one of the guards were discovered, and they made it to the enterance of the palace before they met resistance. It was now that the Edder Mercenaries took to action outside the palace barracks, preventing any of the guards from getting out.

As the baron was fighting his way out, Marie returned with her two men after putting on a simple chain suit and grabbing her Pollaxe, began to cut down any patrols that tried to reach the bridge. Eventually the baron got out after loosing only a few of his men, to discover that marie and her men had been overwhelmed and she laid heavily wounded on the ground. Kaufmann refused to even touch his daughter, and she was to be left behind if it wasn't for Captain Petrovski picking her up, despite weak from his time in the prison.

The dukes force was making great progress, and had escaped the palace and was heading for the eastward gate, which had a total of 20 men guarding it. Leaving the Duchess behind 20m, he charged in with his marines to engage them in close combat, preventing them from bringing their superior firepower to bare. Throughout the small battle, the entire guard force was killed but at a loss of 7 marines and the Dukes right forearm being broken and seriously lacerated from a mace.

The two forces met on their way to the docks, fighting few the through patrols who had recieved word, only loosing two more men. They got onto the ship succesfully, but in the 20 minute wait to get the ship sailing a small skirmish began between the ship and guards, which was single sided after the crew got grapeshot loaded and fired into the dockyards, peppering building and guard alike.

400 meters, also, I'm not sure if they got the duchess yet (though they are closing in).
They got the captain though, so those should make a run for it.

Despite fire from the towers, the frigate made it out of the harbor in one piece, and due to the fact the goblins had said during the treaty signing they did not hold any POWs, they did not give chase.

During the trip, we lost three more men to their grevious wounds due to not being able to get a proper doctor. The dukes left arm, that had been broken and cut up, was forced to be amputated after infection began to set in. Marie kaufmann lost consciousness 3 days into the trips due to her wounds, and is in critical condition. The Baron has several wounds and a broken hand, but insists he'll be fine. Captain Petrovski has several minor wounds and is weak from lack of food, but will be fine. The Swabian had one of his horns broken off when it was hit by a musket ball, and suffers a hurt pride.

His terms were you take him back with you, so i don't see why he wouldn't be available for hire considering his only skills are sneaking, stealing and beating shit with a club. Oh, and drinking.
